"And wb. you are. I'm celeste headley. I'm robin young. It's here and now as cases of covered nine nine climb across the country up. Nearly two hundred percent in the last two weeks hospitals in some places are filling as well. Dr thomas dobbs. Mississippi's state health officer. Tweeted this week. The fourth wave is here at houston methodist hospital in texas one hundred eighty four. Covert patients have been admitted. That's double the number. From july first most of them are unvaccinated and infected with the delta variant but hospital physician and ceo mark boom says at least one hospitalization is a patient infected with the lambda variant. That's a strain of this krona virus that started in peru and is now rampant in parts of south america. Dr boom joins us from houston. And i welcome back to here now but start with the lambda variant. What do we know about it. Well the lambda variant has taken over the country of peru. What we don't understand yet is how it will compete with the delta variant which is the predominant variant now in the united states At houston methodist. We sequence every patient. Who comes through the genomes of each virus that we isolate and we've seen now all the way up to eighty five percent of our isolates are delta. but now we've started seeing lambda creep into the data's well so we're watching that with Interest in with concern but the fundamental issue is that delta is significantly out of control. And we're seeing a major surge in houston. Well you wanna talk about that but just you know there are different variants around the world In france for instance. There's something called beta. We're gonna take that up at another time but so now you have at least one lambda and we understand that. Chilean study of healthcare workers published last month found increased infectivity according to the writing about that so the concern is that these variants are more infectious and the whol classified it as a variant of interest just reminded with that means basically means a variant that. We're concerned enough about that. May actually out compete some of the others. I think the bottom line whether you look at a lambda that's happening In peru in south america Or you look at a delta which is happening in much of the rest of the world. It's clear that these are significantly more effective at spreading than previous ones that we saw. And we've seen an iteration of that time and time again throughout the and this is what's catching up with us. Frankly because of a lack of vaccination at this point because of so many people still infected vite. It's allowing this virus to mutate. We'll talk about that. We understand most the people. You're admitting are on vaccinated. That's true in most hospitals across the country. What are they saying. People who either chose to not get vaccinated or just maybe couldn't for whatever the reason access the most common thing will here is just significant. Regret that people missed their opportunity. They've they recognize. It acknowledge that they had a moment in which they could have protected themselves. They could have protected loved ones and now they're dealing with the disease many times. They never thought they would get. We still remarkably see some people who you know regardless of that still wouldn't have wanted to get vaccinated or still are skeptical about the illness but most people express significant regret texas has been struggling to get people. Vaccinated ranking thirty eight out of fifty states with under forty three percent of the total population vaccinated. It also has to the most infected counties in the country. That's dim it and kearns now. I said mississippi's health officer says a fourth surge is there. Do you think it's in texas as well. No question the kinds of increases. We're seeing right now in houston which is actually on the much higher vaccination with in the state. It's the fastest we've seen since last summer. Actually going up more quickly than we saw for the winter surgeon and it really turned on a dime. And so we're very very concerned about what we've seen you know numbers now doubling in about a week and every indicator whether it's the percentage of people were testing positive number of people that are positive and now the number of people in the hospital. We've really squandered our opportunity to push this down and then we've let delta come up and be an issue in the united states and because of the unvaccinated population. We still have it. It's finding a foothold in finding a foothold. Very very quickly. Dr we know your staff is fully vaccinated. A judge dismissed a lawsuit from some of them that tried to block your vaccine mandate so they are vaccinated but look more infectious variants. Delta lambda maybe waiting in the wings. I are you even worried about your vaccinated staff. And how are they doing knowing that they're facing yet another surge because they're vaccinated but people coming in. Aren't you know what i hear is resolve because they are tough minded individuals know the right thing to do and are called to care for people but i also hear frustration. Because there's this deep feeling that this is so avoidable what we're dealing with now. So it's very hard to see people day in day out the vast majority who are unvaccinated now unfortunately struggling for breath now unfortunately very ill and we know across the united states at nine percent death rate once people are admitted into the hospitals. And so you know every day we're looking at people that we know may pass away in the future within our walls and that is something of course. We always resolved to avoid and so it's a tough time for those hospital employees. We're going to be doing everything we can to support them. But they're an amazing group. People done an incredible job now for virtually eighteen months. You know here here. That's dr mark boom ceo at houston methodist hospital. He offer practices internal medicine. Doctor boom thank you.

"Plus emmy winner and activists. America ferrera has a flashback to celebrate her very first role. And how she's lending. Her voice to the broadway smash turned movie musical in the high here. Come hot topics with whoopie. Sarah haynes joy behar sunny boston and meghan mccain. now let's get things started lou barlow and welcome to the view. President biden is sending a half a million vaccine doses overseas to help get the world inoculated but as the rate of vaccinations drops in the united states. It now becomes a legal battle more than one hundred houston hospital. Employees are suing claiming that the law requiring them to get their shot violates their rights. The hospital just suspended them without pay for two weeks and we'll fire them if they don't get a shot by june twenty-first and they kinda send you know you got a lot of patience here in the hospital so we'd like you get these shots so the question is should health care. Workers have an option here. Which of course they do. They can opt not to go back to work in that hospital. But what do you think joy. Do they have an option. Yeah it's a free country. It's a free country you know. They have the right to walk off the job. That doesn't mean the hospital. Can't fire them. I think i mean the thing about it. That i don't get is if you're anti-science why are you in the medical field. Why why don't you go be a lighthouse keeper or a nightwatchman watchman. You don't really have to interact with people. You picked this fields because you are interested in medicine and science and in the hippocratic oath which is do no harm. What happened to that you know. I think about hospitals as as hotbeds of germs and infections and staph infection you can get l. all sorts of things in a hospital now they have to add covert from a hospital work to to go to a patient. It's kind of. It's kind of outrageous. I mean this is not a political issue. This is a health issue and another thing. I don't understand is if you are afraid of the of the of the vaccine. Then how is it that you can be bribed by a beer or a lottery that that doesn't make sense to me. Are you afraid or are you just being stubborn and political. you know. that's the question the whole world is looking to us now to give them vaccines and our own country is saying a lot of people are saying no no thank you. I'm just fine. It's sort of sad. Megan other industries. Aside isn't this a basic safety measure for a hospital worker. Yeah i mean anyone who has been in a family member a loved one or ben in the hospital themselves especially people that are getting cancer treatment. I remember the times. I've been in rooms with people are fighting cancer. You actually have to put on scrubs and gloves because their immune system get so compromised with chemotherapy. And that's just under normal times. I agree with joy. I think that if you are a person who was chosen to go in the medical field and you don't believe what scientists and doctors are proselytizing. It's sort of like in politics when you can't convince your family members to vote for you. You probably shouldn't be running for office if you can't get your brother your sister to vote for you. That's how i feel about these nurses like if you don't agree with what you're industry is proselytizing. You should go in a different field. And you're putting the patients in a really really uncomfortable position Look i i met a nurse When i was getting vaccinated. And you know the. I know there's still a lot of hesitancy among women who are pregnant or childbearing age and the one of the nurses. I spoke to her daughter. Wouldn't get the vaccine for that reason and it's it's just like if you can't convince people that this is this is good for you and that this is a health public health crisis than i. Just don't know what you're doing in this industry. And i think past that we have a we have a much bigger problem this country with vaccine hesitancy and i i'm very mixed on whether or not you can force someone to get a vaccine Outside of the medical field. But i think when it comes to hospitals and doctors i think they should be forced to. Yeah so is this. A reasonable request from the hospital abc. Ganlu get the vaccine so you don't endanger everyone in here. Yep people in hospitals and nursing homes or in the ground zero of this virus in where it has where it's all out over the last more than a year now. I understand that some people are hesitant. I don't think they're all anti-science. I think some people are waiting for a full approval because this is still just an fda emergency authorization which the pharmaceutical companies are working to get that full approval. I think when that happens we will probably see these vaccines mandatory with schools. President biden just announced. He's not gonna make federal employees. Do this because it's still on that emergency approval list but when it comes to these hospitals you absolutely. It's a hard yes you have to be vaccinated. You are among the most immuno-compromised among us beyond just the cancer patient. The patients which i know megan spoke to their so vulnerable during chemotherapy. You also have transplant patients. You have people with immune disorders that come and the hospitals are where you go for that medical treatment so it becomes so dangerous to allow for unvaccinated people to be working in these hospitals. Now i mean i think of all babies newborns. There's just too many. There's too many open. Your system is just open. You can get anything and it just doesn't seem reasonable to me that you would not want to do this. And you're civil rights. You know this one thing but you know. I'm getting tired of people. Talk about their civil rights and to hell with mine you know we all got civil rights. We all have. It will right. We all have the ability to take care of each other. This helps it. Now there's illegal notes. Sarah yeah we have a legal. No houston methodist president. Dr boom said in a statement that quote unfortunately a small number of individuals have decided not to put their patients first unquote and that he understood it was very difficult decision for some employees to be vaccinated but they did the right thing to protect our patients. Your colleagues your families in our community. That's the bottom line. you know. this is if we're all in it together. We gotta do what we do and listen. You wouldn't tell the surgeon don't wear a mask and surgery because it violates your civil rights you wouldn't say all i'm going to bring my kid and i don't care if my child has to sit with kids who have not been immunized with for mumps or so you schools. Don't let you do the come on people. We're smarter than this. We'll be right back..

"Efforts well one specifically the houston methodist hospital system in a letter sent employees this month as first reported by the houston chronicle indicates employees have until june seventh to be vaccinated or they risk being fired. Methodist is the first hospital group in the region to issue. Such a requirement will other hospital systems and healthcare organizations. Follow suit to tell us more joined now by well. Hey it's the guy you just heard in our newscasts news. Eighty seven's matt hair. Get good morning craig. how are you all right. So you've been digging into this. Of what more can you tell us. First of all about about houston methodist decision. Yeah well as the chronicle first reported as you just said in that letter sent to employees earlier this month the hospital. Ceo dr mark boom said this decision to mandate vaccinations was not made lightly. But he's looking at the decision as necessary and something that they've actually done before. Dr boom in this letter Compared the situation to a decision the hospital made back in two thousand and nine when they mandated its employees to get the flu vaccine. The letter says quote because science has proven that the cove in nineteen. Vaccines are not only safe. But extremely effective. It became an easier decision to make now last week. Craig i spoke with. Roberta schwartz She's the executive vice president at houston methodist. She backed up her boss. Regarding the science behind these vaccines and the decision making saying quote. This is not an experimental vaccine. This is a safe and effective vaccine. Which is why methodists employees are being mandated together at the letter clearly outlines that employees as you mentioned they have until june seventh to get vaccinated. They could be given sanctions. According to the letter including quote suspension or eventual termination. Craig are other area. Hospitals expecting to mandate a covid vaccine for their employees as well. You know. I was really surprised after the chronicle broke this story asking around what hospitals were planning to do. I got three different responses from different hospitals in the texas medical center. Memorial hermann hospital. In a statement to me craig said at some point in the near future the cove nineteen vaccine will be mandatory for memorial hermann employees but quote that day is not today saint luke said they are strongly urging employees to get vaccinated and actually craig. That's a similar answer. Got when i was asking a grocery stores if they will be enforcing the mask mandate when it was lifted by the governor strongly urging. That was the words that were used for for that situation as well. But you know. The answer got from ben taub and lbj hospitals. The safety net hospitals definitely caught my attention their ceo doctor s mile. Porsche tells me vaccinations. We'll be mandated in the harris health system. Which again is lbj. Ben taub but only after one of the vaccines is fully approved by the us drug administration the fda currently the only vaccines available for distribution have been given emergency use authorization. Craig so dr poor said he wants to wait for that step before mandating it and ironically crag dr porsche tells me that this policy that he has in which he said he's had for the beginning mir's their flu vaccination policy at the harris health system. Porsche tells me. Craig like dr boom that the policy over there. We'll look similar eventually to their flu vaccination requirements hospital staff at ben taub and lbj required to get a flu vaccine now obviously though that one is not under emergency use authorization. Correct me if. I'm wrong here but my understanding. Is that the process for full approval. Non emergency use of drug by the food and drug administration. Et can take a pretty long time. Yeah it definitely can According to the fda emergency youth authorisation is given to a drug or vaccine to quote diagnose treat or prevent serious or life threatening diseases or conditions when certain statutory criteria have been met and that includes there are no adequate approved an available alternatives so that's emergency use authorization that's according to the fda's website now regarding the process of getting approval on. It does take time. Dr poor set. The harris health system tells me steps a quote the steps are expedited in terms of both testing and also the application to the fda approval. That's emergency youth authorization and it could possibly take years to get full approval. There are three steps. According to the fda's website. Vaccines must be fda approved for clinical testing in humans. Check box with the covid. Nineteen vaccines And and they must go through three phases of clinical trials. That's been done but this last section here craig. Experts weigh in on efficacy and safety. That's the one that's holding things up. And i'll just read the definition by the fda to you if the vaccine completes all three phases of clinical development manufacturer must submit a vial logics license application. This is an application that dr poor specifically told me craig could take time and this provides the fda regulated or team which includes medical biology and chemistry experts. With all of the safety and efficacy information. They need to assess the risks and benefits of the vaccine and to decide whether or not they recommend it to be approved. And that is the point where we're at right now when it could take time but again dr porsche. He says it's anybody's guess right now When this too will be elevated from emergency use authorization status but his guests is some time over the summer. that's what he projected. This will not be a process that takes years and you would suspect that that has something to do with the fact that there are many people looking into this as this is a global pandemic. You noted that that widely reported letter that Dr mark boom. The ceo houston methodist sent to employees included. A comparison to that hospital systems decision to mandate use of the flu vaccine for its employees. Do we see the same thing in other hospital. Groups across the region do they mandate that. I wasn't able to get that answer the from saint luke's or Or memorial. Hermann but yes that is something that's going on in the harris health system but just to give you some further information to in that letter That dr boom sent is employees. He talked about the flu vaccine. He's quote today. Seventeen states require the flu. Vaccine for health. Care workers The numbers clearly show. We should covid nineteen far more seriously than the flu. This is again. Dr boom in his letter to employees according to the cdc the flu as accounted for between twelve thousand sixty one thousand deaths a year since two thousand ten in the united states the cdc also reports that the last two major flu outbreaks in between ninety and nine hundred fifty seven nine hundred sixty eight account for one hundred sixteen thousand and one hundred thousand deaths in the us respectively. He says quote if we mandate flu vaccines for these numbers. We should also mandate cove in nineteen vaccines given. How much more deadlier they actually are so. That's his rationale And again ironically craig. I got the same rationale when i talked to a doctor. Poor set the harris health system. It really just seems to be what is the definition of extremely safe. And it's time now to mandate this just like we're mandating the flu vaccine this raises of course lots of ethical questions legal questions. Though that i understand has sort of been worked out through through the courts over time but it also raises questions of should we think of healthcare workers differently than other workers and whether or not what we're seeing play out in the healthcare system could down the road apply to other businesses as anybody.

Roberta schwartz one hundred sixteen thousand Craig Hermann today two thousand last week Memorial hermann hospital Nineteen vaccines Seventeen states saint luke nineteen vaccines first both Porsche ben taub june seventh memorial hermann this month twelve thousand sixty one thou

I think I could probably make that happen. He check That's each problem that happened. Bob Melvin, manager of the Oakland Athletics and join US at 2 30 Shawn Estes three. John Clayton at 3 30 then Jeremy Affeldt who we're going to start doing weekly, which we I mean, we love talking to Jeremy. Jeremy's awesome So we'll talk to him at, uh, four caught And then it will be doing the mess around time for about an hour and 1/2. We'll have time just to get loose. And do we want to do and Whatever comes up will be good to its Friday. It's a Friday's of four A cz. We used to say, way, way, way, Way way back in the day Fridays mean danger. I miss that. Oh, that was that was old school right there because Friday's got really lose back in today. Really, really lose so Well, souvenir conjure of some of that, So I don't tell you guys I went golfing today. Do you want things to go bad? Let's start with the good You take them both. And there you have the facts alike. No bank you so the good was good. The good was good. I mean, it was really good. Shot 81. WeII. We ate in dry and two drives were fantastic. I mean, I was like, two shambo out there just crushing drives just really, really good with the drives. The iron game was Me. Ah, you know, there's some really bad and Cem Cem pretty pretty good shots, but the drives were good and that kind of get me going so 80 ones, probably the best I'd have shot in. I don't know. Five years. I mean, I just I was as hidden drive, so that kind of can't be going hit enough Good shots, had two birdies, which I've had probably last five rounds, probably at 11. Birdies have been mixing in some birdies in some good shots well and make it if you put yet making a few putts here and there So 81 was like If you tell me Tom is going to be anyone around, I'm like, Hey, we are good, too. Go. So that was the good Bad. Would be Of the 81 came with a bogey and 17 in a double on 18. What came with I haven't shot a 79 and probably 10 years or so. I was like, Oh, man, I get tasted. We're close to a 79 and the point total that we do. Which is zero points for doubles or more. Bogies. Get one pars, Get two birdies give for Eagle six and then nothing. No, instead of a double your whole in one, but That's eight and 10. So I had a chance to get 30 points which have never and I should. I should mention that it's part of my Positive on the positive side of the ledger at 20 point today, which was the best I've ever had. I've had 26 about 25. Today, Get 28 But I had chance. Get 30 which to let you know I play against my buddy Borghi, who was the head coach of one of his to hide until a couple years ago. Fantastic Coach here in Northern California. His numbers 30 like that's what he needs to get. That's how good he is. He needs to get 30 but I've never scored a 30 never had 30 so I needed a par on the last hole to get A 30 So 17 par five Stripe A drive didn't hit his warrior dog like as a little bit nicer because it moves a little bit right. But it ends up being kind of straight. But the way the whole moves it kind of moves right a little bit. Then comes back a little bit left at the end, so I had a pretty good drive. Not one of my best, but I had I had a fine and I was just in the rough on the left hand side pulled out a five iron Perfect. Hit it over this big tree and dropped it about 50. Right? I'm not probably 25 30 yards from the grave. And this has been my nemesis. Even though I had some really good chips today. This is Ben Lake. I get up there and you would think I was going to the gas chamber hitting a chip like Okey re grip. Look at it. Re grip. Look at it. Breathe. Regroup. Look at it, because I mean chips from mayor just an adventure. So of course Chunk Hit it about what are you hitting your sandwich? 16 60. So hit about 20 feet, didn t make it to the green and the pathetic thing about it was I could go long. There was a huge backstop. I mean, it ramps up quickly behind the hole so I can get along and still be OK, still didn't get into the green. So in a bog in that home, missed about a nine footer for par. So that was that was a little bit of a bummer. Ah, so we get to 18 pretty tough hole straight into the wind. Bunkers everywhere, and it's just not an easy, Holl. Get up there. I'm like, okay, Just give yourself a chance. Givers of a chance. Dr Boom. Hit the drive. Dr. So good. What's in the air? Just go pick up the team walk back. Like I said, perfect slightly on the high drive right in the way more. It'll line drive up the.

I feel that this pandemic was just You know shot across the deck and the next pandemic is going to be even more serious and things like this where people are exchanging so things like any of those things. Funds if you're if you're on the low end of that social credit system, so I'm sure there is problems with it all, but right now I literally have like fourteen dollars of cash in my drawer, and it's been that way forever I. When I was a bartender I would at all times between six and eight hundred dollars in cash on me. You want to be like cash gold heavy. Yes, yeah right. Emailed an answer Greg. Say, how would they make it rain without cash? That in certain. Yeah no making the rain if you don't have cash. That's a valid point I can just see. I, could show them. Throw my laptop Adam. Got, all this money on this Dr Boom. We've got an email from a listener than we need to answer when we come back and we'll get views from everybody, and hopefully we can help lauren with her issues, so don't go anywhere. "So you still, but the that plus they're calling the Infinity display which means instead of having instead of having a chin or or a or a or Archer whatever the calling the I've heard five different words for the brow. And I don't I don't like any of them. But so now the actually will have a whole sort of punched in the lead the foot. I really liked that. I thought it looked really really good. It's it's the first attempt to make a truly edged edge left. Right. Top to bottom display that really looks like it's truly an edge to edge top to bottom display. I don't think that the chin or the notch is ugly. But it's definitely there. And I don't know that the in my own personal tastes. I don't think that that's necessarily a big improvement over just having the screen end over at that top there. But this is truly we have we've just basically painted a square of pixels on your table here. There's a little circle over there. Don't mind the circle. But I thought that made a really really good impact. But you've actually seen one. So what what do you think it looks good? It looks good at the all the phones really good. It's really pretty. But did you notice that Samsung did steal Apple's trick where the default wallpaper? That's on all of these phones. It's like, oh, look there's swirls of color and plasma and whatever and the corner of the screen where the whole is happens to be the only section. The transit is completely blacks. You can't see knowing it was kind of annoying because I when I was going through my footage, and my pictures this afternoon, I realized that I couldn't tell which was which because it's different on the. So it's like a little hole punch on the s ten e. And then it's a bigger area on the regular S ten. Yeah. So it's a it's a great looking phones. I got two hands to that. Another thing. That's I think legitimately cool is reverse charging. So they've had wireless sharp while super cool. Yeah. The actually have they actually have a chief compatible charging pad on the back of the phone. So if you've got like wireless wireless, excuse me. Like an apple watch that uses Chee or if you've got wireless. Head buds ear buds. You can just drop it on the back of this phone and watch. Yup. Apple watch cheat charging too, but you can't use that for watch with an Android phone. Well, you can charge it from an Android phone. You're you're talking to one of the few Mouton's mutants. Apple watch and I kind of hard shit. Well, the point is they even in the demo. They're saying, it's not just Samsung products. We've got a an unnamed third party phone that sort of like kissing Lang on top of the of our of our device and look they're transmitting to each other. I don't I'm not sure how weird these we're going to again, this is this is material after Dr boom, boom. So so we're certainly not talking about get a full charge on your iphone ten or on your pixel phone from this thing, but we'll certainly talking again, if you've got like a fitness band or a small device getting a Samsung buds because. Put him on top or for if for phone at least getting enough charge in there that you can make that emergency call or enough for you've got a half hour to sue can actually call you can actually fire uplift and get a get a car or use your Google pay to actually pay for your parking because you didn't take any money with you. Because you thought hey, I've got my phone..

"Cheat and win a basketball game and make his car. Fly. Someone tries to ruin his chance at making his discovery known. But in the end, professor Brainard makes history twenty seconds. Forgive you. All right. So some history on the absent minded professor, it is a what's they call comic science fiction family film. That's like really long description found science from nineteen sixty one. It was produced by Walt Disney productions, and it was based on a short story called a situation of gravity by Samuel w Taylor. The title character was based in part on Hubert Aaliyah, a professor of chemistry at Princeton University. Who is known as Dr boom for his explosive demonstrations while that. So the film stars Fred macmurray again, and he's been in a couple of films that we've seen so far now shaggy dog shaggy dog yet, and he is professor Ned Brainard. So the tone of Disney's live actions films changed following the surprising success of the shaggy dog. Thank you. Thank shaggy dog. Finally, we are seeing some comedies some good live in films. Fawn adventure the adventure. Ones are not bad. Some of them are some of them are levels are just bad flat on that. But these comedy ones are definitely more my Cup of tea. So rather than a rollicking adventure? Here was a slapstick situation comedy involving a family setting in a strong fantasy element. So that seems to be what they're going to go with for a while with live actions. So the to to the stars from the shaggy dog Fred macmurray and Tommy Kirk shots. Tommy kirk. He's an a lot. Yes. They were recruited for the like minded romp. The absent minded professor, which proved to be an even bigger box office bonanza for Disney. It was imitated by that studio for years. So we did get another like TV to TV movie later in like the seventies or eighties. I think and then we got flubber in the nineties so child, Robin Williams. Yes. And then we also go ahead. Okay. I just wanted. I was doing a little basic own apparently tummy Kirk after he left his knee like had a really hard life. He was closeted for most of his life, and he really bad drug problem. And so it's like interesting to see how many like young stars of Disney like did not do well later in life. I actually I was looking up information on I kinda like went down the rabbit hole. Kapadia when? Yeah. And I was looking up absent minded, professor. And then I noticed that again tummy Kirk was in and he has been eight ton of movies that we've been watching selectively Justin pod to. Yeah. I mean old yeller and Swiss family Robinson shaggy dog now this so yeah, I went onto his Wikipedia page, and actually I don't know if we planned on talking about this during this episode, but I actually was going to talk about it during his last one probably we can bring it up again. But apparently, he was gay and it got out to the studio that he was gay and wall actually fired him because of it as soon as he found out which really bothered me. But I mean, I like, I know I always knew that he was kind of like that. But it was just like disappointing to read about it. Again. I'm really glad though that the studio and just the company in general has really changed. Yes. From them. I mean, honestly, if your home Afo bec-. And you walk into DisneyWorld, you'll probably have a panic attack. Because literally like probably seventy five percent of the cast members are. So I also heard like growing up like whenever I'd be like, I love Disney them the idiot kid..

"This case has gripped the nation. The nation's media pass. He should say, Monica's fit and into August shake, joins me in the studio and say, yes, there's a sort of compelling media and celebrity story. But this is a pretty grim cases of alleged medical malpractice. Just bring us back up to speed and maybe try and give us a sense of why these characters he work in this field such compelling figures back in your homeland. Well, first of all, as you know, on a plastic surgery is very important to Brazilians. I mean, we're the second largest markets in the world just behind the US and think about it. The US is richer and bigger than Brazil when it comes to population. So of course, you know, because our industry so big, you have those characters like this Dr. Boom, boom, you know which, you know he and he did the procedure at his house which is not legal. So you know the Brazilian plastic surgery society, they criticize his methods and it was a kind of a minor celebrity was time to time on television. So he did have quite a following on social media as well. And some people criticize the matter, the parents injected like acrylic glass filler on the boards because I don't think that's a kind of a legal way approved by the Brazilian society. And now he's on the run, apparently saying that he's got some health problems, but his lawyers are trying to arrange a negotiation with the police so he can surrender himself as well. Now, of course, we shouldn't make light of this is involve someone who died as a result of one of these botched procedures. Nevertheless, the way you describe it for this is more the stuff surely a Brazilian telenovela than than the real sort of news agenda. How do you see this developing? Because one imagines also those telenovela writers Laura to be sort of sharpening their pencils ready. To do the, you know, the the screenplay for this it it seems like the stuff a fictional most? No, absolutely into on. As I say because of the size of the market, it's so common in Brazil, plastic surgery, and you know why it was thinking about this. You know, it's not only that we want to be body beautiful to go to the beach in Brazil. Beauty is highly prized not only if you're an actor or more also if you're a lawyer a teacher, you know Ingram's basically everybody has dimensionality if you are beautiful, you do well in life. I don't. I think this lady this unfortunate victim here. She was a Bank manager sort of successful middle-class person. Exactly. And one wonders why so compelling that is interesting day about body image and this sort of thing. Do you think they'll be pressure on whether it's regulatory authorities, plastic surgery, Saudi, or perhaps government itself to say, look, this is huge industry. They're frankly too many stories like this. We need greater regulation. We need more accountability. Do you sense that this could be maybe something of a turning point? Well..
