"Fathers before just another link in the chain by the prison music project and so a bookbinder this is democracy now democracy. Now dot org. I'm me goodman with juan gonzalez in florida. The death toll has risen to twelve with nearly one hundred fifty people still missing following the catastrophic of thirteen storey apartment building and surf side right next to miami beach on thursday president biden scheduled to visit the site with dr biden. His wife the state attorney for miami dade county has announced she would ask a grand jury to examine what maybe the deadliest collapse of a residential building in. Us history. Two thousand eighteen inspection found the building had abundant cracking and sprawling and its foundation with engineers pointing to design flaws an insufficient waterproofing less than three months before the collapse. The president to the condominium association warned residents that the damage had quote gotten significantly worse just last week. A pool contractor took photos underneath the buildings pool deck showing water damage and cracked concrete while investigators have not determined the exact cause of the collapse. The disaster raises new questions about how rising sea levels will impact oceanside buildings in miami and other cities. we go now to coral gables florida. Where we're joined by. Harold wireless professor of geography and urban sustainability at the university of miami. He leads project. The invading see a collaborative effort by news organizations across florida to address the threat of sea. Level rise dr. john winless you say soon. In fact miami will be underwater. But talk about that relevance today to what we are seeing in all of the carpet coverage of this catastrophe. That has taken place rarely. Do we hear the words. Climate change right. Well sense. The building was built. There was has been about seven eight inches of further zero rise which is very fast. But if that building was built properly I would be surprised that that would have a major effect if we look to the future. Which maybe we can do a minute. That would be important. I think The problem with this building as there may be some design and there may be certainly maintenance problems. But i think they need to look very carefully at a elevation of the base of the parking garage. Which you go down to go into. I believe and that was much lower and they also are going to need to look at very carefully exactly what this building was built on. We assumed it was saying of the barrier island overlying rock but that may not be corrected some evidence that something else was Dugout and fill back in. We need to look at that but the reason this is important is that that either. This is something unique to their building. Or this is a general problem that all the condos along the coast of the world are going to have to deal with because certainly there is salt spray and certainly during exceptional tides. You do get salt. Water into the groundwater there's often freshwater but even fresh water on concrete. That isn't that. That good is highly corrosive so dr one is. Could you talk about the the impact of salt water on structures because we see this in new york city all the time on the highways that are right along the water that they're constantly having to repair them because of corrosive. Nature of the salt and in contrast flagler built a railroad down to key west than the early part of the previous century and he used some german concrete. that was designed for saltwater. And we do it all the time with bridges and other structures around the world so and the problem is i don't think we're using the proper quality contrary because it could be twenty to thirty years. We could have a as much as two three feet of further them arrives. I smelled his really accelerating our is in. So we're we're really in for and so we we have to. We have to deal with the question. You asked straight up. It's you know it's not well this is this is above sheila. Now it's not really above sea level in the near future and can you talk about miami. Its future bayoumi chr well because of the because we've warmed the ocean almost all from global warming than the ocean because at warm ocean and the atmosphere is now an has initiated and is rapidly accelerating ice smell on both greenland and arctic. We are said certainly gonna be in for a two to three foot further sea level rise by mid century a mortgage cycle away only and we could be at at at a to as much as fifteen feet by the end of the century so miami. There's only three percent of of miami. Dade county is greater than twelve feet above sea level. And and even at six feet. It's pretty well gonna be over later. The centers so but we're building here like there's no tomorrow maybe that's correct. It's a it's a hard thing for people to think that this has always been here but at sea level just happened to slow down for the last couple of thousand years and so we built like this always been here and unfortunately the barrier island of of miami beach in all barrier islands with the world are going to be inundated compromised eroded storm surge across more aggressively in the near future. So and could you talk about the Government policy related to this in places. Like miami or new orleans that it's it's actually to build much more spend billions on constructing manmade barriers instead of relocating populations and having the whole country have to pay for folks who wanna live by the by the ocean and we just have thirty said very good question and it's the same question on on flood plains where we're now having more aggressive Floods but this is a very fair question. And i don't think there's an easy answer for prompt. Miami would reports limestone. So you can't put up a decor levy around us and and keep the water out. It'll come right up through the through. Sex discrimination that it includes discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. While applying that interpretation to other laws like the Affordable Care Act, the Fair Housing Act and other parts of the Civil Rights Act. Um All persons. This is a quote all person should receive equal treatment under the law, no matter their gender, identity or sexual orientation. Unquote. That's from the bite and White House on its first day. So Rather than having All rights systematically peeled back and Um, obstructed and all those other things. Um Finally Like we're real people. Yes, not just some boogeyman. Or scary thing or whatever, but like real life, actual functional and Various ways people. But humans Right? Not Strawman. Yes, right, And I think that's that's key here. Um Don't know about you, but I'm tired of being a political football. Just by existing? Yeah, right. You know? And I can't tell you. How many times like. These are the arguments against, um, allowing trends people to use their bathroom of choice. Yes, has been set up as a kind of that boogeyman argument that trans women are going to be, Uh, Doing bad things to our poor young ladies in the ladies room, and it's like Hey, uh, person that's really, uh, in danger in those situations is the transfers. Yes, Yes, Uh, Um, yeah, to to feel like Um More universally, there's there's an expectation of respect and Being able to To just be right. I think it makes a big difference here. Yes, Big, big difference. Um, well as I had mentioned, of course, the big one. Is today's news was the repeal of the military. Um, trans military band. Um and I see here that we have the text of that executive order, but I don't know if we have anything. Contextualizing it. Oh, well, where did that go? Well, maybe you could look for that. Um, but another kind of cool thing that shows that it isn't just On administrated executive level of support, but just a personal one as well. Yeah, this is from Juwan Homes of LGBT Q Nation from Saturday. "Funding headlines about the fashion yesterday? Oh, I tried Ignore everything from yesterday. Tell me about the fashion mock. Well, I mean, it was You know, everybody looked fine, but the way that the media reacted to, For example, the turquoise Get up that Jill Biden was in or you know, Connell is purple, too Well, Hillary look like a giant grape. I did see that they were coming in as I was leaving. It was on the television. But I just want because how many times on the chicks on the right show on our show? How many times have we reminded everybody that Melania Trump is an actual supermodel like that's literally how she made her lie? Right. And if you look at her fashion choices over the past years that she's been the first lady, she was flawless. I mean, she looked. I can't think of an outfit that she wore that I was like, Oh, my God, That's dreadful. She looked amazing all the time. Almost all the time. Now this may shock you mock. But look, you know me. I'm first admit my fault. I know nothing about fashion. That's okay. Let's look at the way I'm dressed. Now. I know that shocking to believe, but so I don't understand any of this. I don't get any of this. It all looks the same to me. But apparently, some of it's a bigger deal than other stuff. It's a big deal now because because there's Democrats in the White House, so, for example, listen to the way that this headline was worded. There was a picture of Joe Biden of Jill Biden and Kamila Okay, and this headline from refinery, 29 said. Dr Biden is bringing American fashion back into the White House, starting with this subtle, sparkly coat. Didn't Melania were like a $7000 something? Leaving the White House when he was carrying a $70,000.70? What's What's times 10 bucks? Friends? Yeah, so look again. It's all you might all be Britain and You know Chinese to me. I know nothing about it. It all looks the same. But I'm certainly going to guess the person who was an actual supermodel might know a thing or two about fashion. I don't know for them to write that Jill Biden is bringing fashioned back. Back. You know what you know who had fashion Barbara Bush. Now there's a broad who knew how to get down. Barbara. God bless, sir. Um All right. We need to talk about sex is playing cards because apparently this is a thing. Um, um imagine being a person who I could do that I'm with you going. Imagine being a person who likes playing card games. Okay? And you're playing your woman. You're playing your card games. You're enjoying yourself. But you look at the cards and you see Kings and Queens. And in many card games, you see that kings are valued more then Queens. True story. My grandparent's once they would both retired for like 35 years, played cards together every single day. They kept a running tab I still have when they both passed away. I still have it. They kept a running tab in a giant binder of who want each game. They bet money how much they owed each other, and my grandmother passed away. Owing my grandfather over $500,000. That's amazing. Um okay, So so this woman, this card fan, her name is Indy. Melling. She's a 23 year old. She was very upset. Very upset about the quote, settle inequality that was displayed on playing cards because kings are more valuable than queens, and she was sick and tired of it. So she decided after encouragement from her dad, she decided that she would design her own deck of cards with gold. Silver in And bronze in place of Kings, Queens and Jacks, apparently forgetting all about the fact that Jax were not as valuable as Queens. So it seems like a colossal waste of time. But this was really important to her. And what she said about it was, and I quote if we have this hierarchy that the king is worth more than the Queen Then this subtle inequality influences people in their daily lives because it's just another way of saying, Hey, you're less important. Can you imagine? Can't being so miserable in your existence? That this is what you come up with. This is what satisfies you. And being that miserable and bad is apparent that you go you go, Honey. You're doing great. You're doing important work. What? What? I can't I can't fathom taking something this stupid to my father and have presented that I would have been mortified. I know. And yet this has happened and it's happened in such a way that it is actually a news story that we're now talking about. Now. It'll become a thing. If you watch mark within three years, assures were sitting here. That will be the way playing cards were done. I can't.

Los Angeles native Amanda Gorman makes history as the youngest poet to deliver the inaugural poem
"One of the most remarkable moments of wednesday's inaugural ceremony came from the inaugural poet. Amanda gorman of los angeles. she's the youngest poet in. us history to address a presidential inauguration. She became the youth poet laureate of los angeles at the age of sixteen in two thousand fourteen and then the first national youth poet laureate the twenty two year old poet read her poem. The hill we climb. She finished it right after the riot at the capital earlier this month. Her words captured the nation. This is amanda gorman. Mr president dr biden madam vice presidents mr emhoff americans and the world one day comes we ask ourselves. Where can we find lights in this. Never ending shade the loss. We carry a c. We must wade. We've braved the belly of the beast. We've learned that quiet isn't always piece in the norms. In notions of what just is isn't always just is and yet. The dawn is hours before we knew it. Somehow we do it. Somehow we've weathered into witnessed a nation that it isn't broken but simply unfinished we the successors of a country and a time or a skinny black girl descended from slaves into raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president only to find herself reciting for one and yes. We are far from policy far from steam. But that doesn't mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect. We are striving to forge or union with purpose to compose a country committed to all cultures colors characters in conditions of man and so we lift our gaze. not what stands between us but what stands before us. We close the divide because we know to put our future. I we must. I put our differences aside. We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another we seek harm to none and harmony for all let the globe if nothing else say this is true that even as we grieved. We grew. That even hurts. We hoped that even as we tired we try. That will forever be tied together victorious. Not because we will never again no defeat but because we will never again so division scripture tells us to envision that everyone is so sit under the vine and fig tree and no one so make them afraid if we're to live up to our own time than victory won't light in the blade but in all the bridges we've made that is the promise to glade hill. Climb if only we dare it because being american is more than a pride we inherit. It's the past we step into and how we re parrot. We've seen a forest that would shatter our nation rather than share. It would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy and this effort very nearly succeeded but while democracy can be periodically delayed it can never be permanently defeated in this truth in this faith we trust for while we have our eyes on the future history. Has its eyes on us. This is the era of just redemption. We feared submission. We did not feel prepared to be heirs of such a terrifying our but within we found the power to author a new chapter to offer hope and laughter to ourselves so while once we asked how could we possibly prevail over catastrophe. Now we assert. How could catastrophe possibly prevail over us. We will not march back to what was but moved to what shall be a country that is bruised but whole benevolence but bold fierce and free. We will not be turned around or interrupted by intimidation. Because we know our inaction end and so we'll be the inheritance of the next generation. Our blenders become their burdens. But one thing is certain if emerged mercy with might into might with rights then love becomes our legacy in change our children's birthright

"Well, they called me to tell us more. We just heard the speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. She followed the former Senate majority leader or soon to be former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who offered warm remarks to the Bidens and to the Harris is on this occasion and important to note because It wasn't clear whether it Mitch McConnell with support Thean coming administration and in recent days that he has made it clear that support but he in recent days, he's made it very clear that he does believe that the election was legitimate and he does not endorse the outgoing presidents. Continued complaints that it was not. And now the president and Dr Biden are going to review the troops of sort of a truncated Review of the troops thing we have been accustomed to seeing clearly. What else did lawmakers tell you when you spoke to them today? Well in terms of Democrats, just a lot of emotion there in hearing from them. Sanchez go Mansion, West Virginia, just a little hope that they can forward 12 plans for their agenda. But at the same time they're gonna head into a heavy period in the Senate, and that's the Senate impeachment throw of Donald Trump, and that's going to be heavy lift for them to address for Republicans, For example, I ran into the former home of the Arizona Republican Flake, who talked about how painful it was to come to the Capitol today and see how shut down Capitol Hill is after the insurrection a few weeks ago, and he said, if there's any super lining for all of this, then maybe this opportunity for the Republican Party to move away from Trumpism. And go back to it or result principles and be united and be relevant again. So it was. It was a scene, but I heard again and again from Republicans. If they want to turn the page, they want to start over When I talk to these moderates, and we're hearing now, if we could go back to the capital for a moment, we're hearing the House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy beginning As leaders. We're judged not by our words, but by our actions, so let's go forth from here together, accomplished great things for American people. Every time you look at this photo Remember the beginning of the job we have to do. Congratulations..

"Special coverage of the inauguration from NPR News. I'm Michelle Martin and I'm Rachel Martin. President Joe Biden took his oath of office today and gave an address that appealed to the best instincts of Americans. He made a plea that echoed other presidents at times of crisis through struggle. Sacrificing setbacks, Our better angels have always prevailed. The nature of these moments, Enough of us, enough of us have come together to carry all of us forward. We could do that now. History, Faith and reason show the way the way of unity. We can see each other, not as adversaries, but his neighbors. We can treat each other with dignity and respect. Again. Join forces Stop the shouting and lower the temperature. For without unity. There is no peace on Lee bitterness and fury. No progress on Lee exhausting outrage, no nation. Only a state of chaos. Let's go now to the U. S capitol. Where Claudia Chrysalis NPR congressional reporter has been standing by. Claudia. Welcome to you. Thank you for being here. Thank you for having me. So we're waiting for this pass in review, where President Obama reviews the troops outside the capital. They've just had a short ceremony in the rotunda, where they received where he and vice president comma Harris received a gift. Some grave crystal items, which they seemed very moved by as well as Flags. We're seeing the outgoing Senate majority leader, another Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, making remarks so you've been running around the Capitol today, and I understand that you've spoken with several lawmakers, Republicans and Democrats about the ceremony and a Biden's remarks. I just love to hear what you've heard. Yeah. So I'm hearing that same theme of unity that you folks have been discussing earlier from Republicans and Democrats alike talk to Susan Collins of Maine. This is a member of a moderate member of the GOP in the Senate. And she said that he struck the right tone today and said it was a signal in terms of working together. Republicans and Democrats being able to work together during the Biden administration and share what they see is common goals. And she's working biting in the past. She emphasized that Alaska's Lisa Murkowski, this is another moderate member of the Senate for the Republican Party. She also said the same that she believed that she saw unity to opportunities for unity today. So echoing a lot of what we've heard from Democrats today, like representative Brian Talking about How the tone of unity came across today. Could you excuse me for interrupting, But we're going to go to the capital now. Well, they have Mitch McConnell has just spoken and now the speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi is speaking. Who? The president of the United States the flag that was flown when you were sworn in Mr President, this flag Is that right? Reflect all that is said about your inauguration. America United May yet be a symbol of the hope, the healing and the just all of the enthusiasm that you have for our country and as we heard the beautiful national anthem When we're at the stadium, and they say As our flag still is our flag still there then you say, play ball. Right there, Play ball, So we're going to read it. Get ready to play ball. We're ready to go with the inspiration of our flags line but again on behalf of the House of Representatives. It is my privilege to extend to you the flag that was blown the moment. Early moment that you are sworn in as president of the United States. Thank you, Mr President. Thank you, Doctor. Dr Biden. Thank you. If we had the launch, we would have had California wine. Is that not right, Madam Vice President. That's your M have congratulations. With liberty and justice for all..

"Tie both of them wearing, you know, sporting gloves. Let me see what color gloves on and she is now kissing a member of her family. What am I doing? What am I doing? I'm doing a play to play on way play by play. I am doing a runway play by play. But this is when the inauguration starts getting rather serious. The folks on the stage or already in position as they're going to be during the inauguration, the former presidents are there. I don't think Jimmy Carter is there, but I think it's ah because of his age, and he's pretty infirm. That is correct. All right. Otherwise he, of course would be there. And so we have the two former presidents. We have George W. Bush and President or Barack Obama and their spouses. And, uh, there she is, Uh, the vice president to be wearing a leather which looks like, uh ah, leather Face mask. Uh, on, uh, no insignia on it. Where if you look at President George W. He has a small American flag on his Contact. How many people are tuning out right now Listening to be do the play by play, uh, not a whole lot. But when the president will be sworn in, and according to the timeline, Incidently the actual swearing in of the president. Uh, will happen Will he comes on the stage at 11 11 s O. It should be any moment now that running a couple minutes behind. And then you'll see the swearing in and then even more than the vice president. Her off of oath of office is administered and there's still a whole lot going on. I mean, right through. The what? Uh oh, my God, for you know, it looks like even a couple of hours. Uh, after that on, and there's a couple of fun ones where a speaker Nancy Pelosi, with her husband present the American flag to President Biden, and she's has some remarks. Uh, my absolute favorite one Senator Coburn. Klobuchar with her husband prevent presents the Lenox vases, the Lenox vases and provides brief from Marks that I haven't seen before. Here are some vases. Thanks. Enjoy. Put your flowers in. Uh oh. Come on. I just got a text from my program director commenting on what I'm doing, and I'm sure she's ripping into me. Here we go. Uh, you're not reading it on the air? Yeah. You suck. You suck at fashion play by play. Her outfit is Royal Purple, Royal blue, not purple, and her mask is a matte satin, not leather. I was gonna call you out on the leather too. I thought where is looks like the weather, doesn't it from here. No one's okay. By the way, Bill. Yes. If you're you gotta be very careful when you describe what she's wearing, because if you say she's wearing a leather Face mask That's cool. But if you say she's wearing a leather face mask that is something very, very different. That is true. All right. So let's take a break. And as the president is going to be introduced, of course, we'll cut to the President Elect Biden also, we don't see him yet. Walking down the hall. Oh, yes, I do. Yes, I do. He is for, Yep. "And Dr Joseph Castaldo is On with us right now. Seconds away. Quick, Rapid fire stories that are big buzzing this morning. The protest downtown in Columbus and really across the country, for that matter, were pretty quiet over the weekend. Authorities are also investigating whether foreign governments or organizations gave money to any of those who organized the deadly capital protest. And it's a big week here in the state of Ohio when it comes to the cove in 19 vaccination. We welcome from Ohio Health and the director of infectious diseases, Dr Joseph Castaldo with us this morning. Thanks for being with this is always doctor on this Monday morning, Abraham. Good morning. Happy to be here. Okay, So let's get right to it. Big day tomorrow. The rollout of the vaccinations for those 80 and older it. It sounds like so far so good things. The sign up took place, I think on Friday, coronavirus dot Ohio dot Gove. Have you heard of any any issues at this point? Looks like we're ready to go. Not at all how help we've been planning for this for months. In fact, today, I'm going to be over at the vaccination center for one safety walk through to make sure things are looking good again. There's a lot of fluidity with the whole situation. But this is the big week for us starting to vaccinate the public, and we really need to ask everybody to pay attention to what it looks like every week, so Week of January. The 19 It's Ohioans 80 years old and older, the week of January 25th. It's Ohio and 75 older and those with severe congenital or developmental disorders. Week of February. 1st, Ohio and 70 years and older and employees of K through 12 schools and the week of February 8 Ohioans 65 older now that it's always been announced so far, but what I can tell you as As each week comes out, there's going to be a new gate of criteria for people to get vaccinated. In addition to that, with the buying administration, taking the realm in Washington, D C. I expect more vaccines to be released from the federal level he has of their stated goal 100 million vaccinations within the 1st 100 days of his administration. And the CDC director. Dr Biden was on the talk shows yesterday and then they are planning for that as a goal. I want to see the details of it, but that that is something that put the smile on my face. There was that's good because there was a bit of a worry late last week. First you had the president elect Biden, who had come out to say You know where we just want to get the rest of this stockpile out. On then President Trump said Yet, let's let's get it all out. And then we find out there we we've used that stockpile. Then Dr Anthony Fauci came on yesterday on meet the Press is one of the shows. And said he does think it's possible to give up 100 million Corona virus vaccination shots in the 1st 100 days, so that's certainly helpful to hear. Absolutely. And again. That's the whole drama out of D. C. You get these mixed signals, and you know what? I'll believe it when I see the actions and I tend to have more credence in the new administration coming in, Let's let's see what they are going to do again. They stayed in 100 Million vaccines in the 1st 100 days. That's going to be a huge federal operational left. They've also announced that they may induce the war Powers act to make sure we have enough syringes and needles and all those type of supplies that are needed. So again. This is a national emergency. This is the equivalent of something like one war two. We have in our country the equivalent of a mass casualty every day, and we really need to get the vaccines and people's arms. Dr. Castillo is with us this morning director of infectious diseases at Ohio Health with NewsRadio 16 W T V and Doctor. You recently had your second vaccine, And from what I've heard you noticed some side effects this time. Yes, I received my second vaccinations Advisor Vaccine last Monday. I had absolutely no side effects of the first vaccine. So what happens when you get the first vaccine your immune system gets primed your immune system of learning how to recognize a spike protein. 24 hours after I received my second vaccine. I did feel off kilter for 24 hours. I had I had a headache. I have muscle pain. I had a low grade temperature elevation. But guess what? Have to sign my immune system has takes the vaccine I took from town all rested, and I was back to normal 24 hours later. Okay. Well, first of all, that's good, if if someone who gets the vaccine Has those same symptoms or any type of symptoms. That's something you do you suggest reporting that to the CDC or well, you can You know what one of the things I think is really cool is when you go to get vaccinated. There's a smartphone interaction called these days. The s a F E V safe, And if you voluntarily registered for it, you get a text message every day from the CDC asking how you feel. I think that's really cool because they're collecting data on the safety of the vaccine and in our country. So far, we roughly have over 10 million People who have received a vaccine and they really collected a lot of safety information. Doctor. What about pregnant women? Do you have data and if it's safe for them to get the covert 19 vaccine? Officially speaking, you pregnant women were not put in the study for either five or Madonna. Now the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have a very nice statement on that. They basically recommend that pregnant women not necessarily be excluded from the study. But there's a high risk pregnant woman who potentially is in the hospital out in the public law that she should really have a discussion with their obstetricians to to talk about the overall benefits of the vaccine versus the speculative risk of the vaccines. Okay. All right. That's good to know. And you this UK study that you may have seen floating around the past few weeks, maybe a week now, but they recently said that people with anti bodies can still carry and spread the virus. Is that true with the vaccine too? Well, when you talk about the antibodies, you know what we were talking about the coke in 1980 bodies. They're not really meant to be a marker of immunity. We kind of using that way. But all they really indicate is a previous infection with Kovar 19. Now what we know about the vaccines is when you get the vaccines you are 95% protected against symptomatic Cove in 19. These vaccines end point was symptomatic infection and again. Nothing is 100%. No backsies 100%, but the vaccines On the study should show a really good response rate. Okay, That's good to know on the variant that we discussed they know week ago, especially in central Ohio to tip two different variants, I think from Ohio State It doesn't lead to more severe illness, the right just double checking. That's correct. The various that are out there in the United Kingdom, South Africa and even the North America in our country and most recently, the highest state. They don't lead to higher severity of illness, however. They are more transmissible. They transmit more efficiently. So as a result of that, we we could see more covert cases. Because of that people have a higher viral load. But it really, you know, covert fatigue. We need to really double down on the mitigation strategies. That were also much used to it again puts another emphasis on getting vaccines and people's arms. All right. You went through the list a little bit earlier. Doctor could still though, about you know who can sign up? You know the 25th February 1st. And but But again, I think one of the magic websites here is just what coronavirus dot Ohio dot gov. Is that right? That's correct, actually, the one what's the vaccine, doc coronavirus dot Ohio dot goes When you go to that website, you'll have the weeks there and then something on that website of which is really cool. You couldn't look at each individual county and that tells you where to go in that county to investigate getting the vaccine and again everything is very fluid, even within Ohio health When we start back sitting tomorrow, it's just one place. However, once we get access to more vaccines, we are prepared to open up more vaccine centers throughout central Heil but also surrounding counties. Doctor Forgive me. Can you say that? Just one more time for those that maybe didn't hear it? Yeah. Vaccine Vaccine. Got coronavirus Got Ohio Doc Gove's All right. Very good. Okay, doctor goes solo. As as always. Thank you for joining us every Monday Appreciate have a good week. Thank you. He talks to him all right on down on the heels of what we're talking about, with Fauci earlier saying that the Biden goal of 100 million doses and 100 days it can be done..

We just thought that that might better explain polarization in any if you hate the first lady got a negative view than then you really sort of are blinded with partisanship. No question. This country is very divided by party. But Chuck, let's take a step back here. She was the most popular person on the bowl. The only institution there was more popular than Joe Biden was the Supreme Court. She was more popular than trump more popular than pence even more popular than her husband. So let's let's get perspective here. There's about 30% of the country that is totally 30 to 35%. That's totally trump. But the majority of America has rejected Trump, especially in light of what he incited in our nation's capital. I think we're headed for good places because your polling talking about Republicans and Democrats, all those independents in the middle are skewing away from Trump's Republican Party. You know, it's interesting, rich. I think, in some way, Claire what she's speaking for the Democrats. They have it a little bit easier. They could ignore this 30% while they govern for a while, it's gonna be hard to fully ignored, but they can sort of work around them. The Republican Party can't because that 30% translates into about 70% of the party. What does a Mitch McConnell do with those folks? Well, it's tricky. Donald Trump is gonna be the biggest figure in the party for a long time. Here he has more energy has more grassroots supporters. McConnell has more institutional influence in Washington. But what we've seen over the last week or two or the opening salvos of what will be a Republican civil war that run through Republican Senate primaries all the way down to dogcatcher races and Trump had his his voters at the margins. That soured on him some, but they haven't abandoned him. And I think what a lot of people, including some Senate Republicans haven't fully counted on is I think there will be a ferocious backlash that we haven't really seen yet to a post presidency effort to bar Trump from running from office again, which is going to strike. A lot of Republicans has been addictive and undemocratic. Christian Welker what? What is President elect Biden's? Thoughts on how to does he bother to talk with this 30 to 35%. He obviously knows his mandate was to bring the country together. But that's a bit that that's a 30% of the country that didn't seem to want to listen to him. Does he have a thought on how he's going to talk to those folks? Well, I think you're going to hear that conversation begin in his inaugural address, Chuck based on my reporting, look, he is going to hit those themes of unity of hell. Wing, and then he's going to have to show his work once he's in office, and it's going to start with that big challenge. He rolled out that $1.9 trillion relief package that he wants to get past. The question is, how does he do it? And speaking with those close to him, they say, Look, Of course they're going to be areas of compromise. Can he reach across the aisle and work with Republicans work with Mitch McConnell? They are going to be feeling pressure to address these crises. The Economy Cove it all of the issues that are addressed in That release package. And so I think that's where the conversation begins. Chuck. I think there's also an opportunity for Dr Biden as well. She has indicated that she wants to revive the joining forces Military program and work on story openings. Shock. I want to talk about the Senate a little bit, you know Claire McCaskill does this new view the Senate impeachment trial as having any impact on Joe Biden's ability to bring say it doesn't Republicans on Word, some early bipartisan pieces of legislation. I don't think it does. First of all, Joe Biden is going to be talking, covert, covert covert. He's not going to be talking impeachment, impeachment, impeachment and the key. Here is Joe Biden believes that Mitch McConnell is somebody he could potentially work with. My checking in with senators. There isn't a lot of faith about that. Mitch McConnell has specialized in obstructionism to Democratic presidents. And there's a lot of senators who really don't have the same faith. Joe Biden has that Mitch McConnell will come to the table and compromise and get things done for the American people. I think most people believe That Joe Biden is setting himself up senators that is setting himself up for failure because Mitch McConnell hasn't even come with the time agreement to begin the new Senate s O. This is not somebody who is showing signals that he's willing to work with Democrats. Rich, sir. The same question from the other viewpoint. Do you think the Senate impeachment trial will motivate Republicans Tonto work with Biden or somehow move them away from working with by? No. I don't think I have much affect one way the other and it's sort of amazing that already Democrats are kind of considering the impeachment trial and something to get beyond and try to push off the sides so they can focus on what they really care about, which is Getting the Biden agenda passed and getting Cabinet officials nominated. I think McConnell and we had a pretty good relationship with Joe Biden in the Obama years, he thought he could cut deals with Joe Biden much better than he could with Barack Obama. So when there's a commonality on things, you know the relief package, some spending at the margins. I think they'll have a fine working relationship, but At the end of the day. These are two men who disagree for sincere and deeply held release reasons on most of what will be discussed. So McConnell's believe those rights to oppose things he's never supported when we come back how the riot The capital was frankly, years in the making. On C SPAN radio. We're listening to NBC's Meet the press with their roundtable guests today. Kristen Welker, co chief White House correspondent for NBC News. Former Senator Claire McCaskill, a Democrat of Missouri, and Rich Lowry, editor of the National Review. Welcome back the riot. The capital was shocking. Sadly, it was not unpredictable. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Right Wing Terrorist perpetrated the majority of all plots and attacks in the United States from 1994 to 2020. Over the past six years, these attacks have occurred in 42 states. In other words, the violence we witnessed a January 6 Has been hiding in plain sight. The.

First Presidential Debate: What to Expect
"And David, You have been through a lot with the president. So you probably know how he is preparing for this debate. He tell us about it. Well, we You know, I have that's true. I've been around this president for a long time. And you know he is the hardest working. Ah, man that I know on DH. He's working. Every minute of every day for this Cherie, and what he's doing now is he's working every day for the country is president. Then he's got a second full time job, which is Being a candidate for president. So it's pretty interesting for me to watch him have to really juggle both jobs. Every incumbent has to do it for this. This president put it, You know, really the gas pedal down all ahead full, and he's Very excited about tonight. He's he's looking for a great debate. Look, Joe Biden has been a member. Of the greatest debate club in the world history, the United States Senate and he's been there for a long time, almost 50 years, and so you look at this president and we say, and the president saying that he's done more in 48 months. Then Joe Biden is done in 48 years, and I think the record is very clear about that. I agree with you, but, you know, some folks speak to the people who are kind of nervous on our side of the aisle, who are kind of nervous about tonight. Like you just said bite. It is part of his club, the Senate. He's been there for 47 years. We've seen them debate in the past. Most recently are should say in 2012, was it It was with the with the Ryan Paul Ryan, and it was were a lot of us were shocked that Aggressive. He was and how thrown off Paul Ryan was. I don't think it is you could throw President Trump off. Is there anything they have trump? If Biden is on his game, what should be looking out for? I think it's going to be interesting if he is on his game. I think it's going to go. You know, people are gonna wonder, eh? I'm wondering whether or not Joe Biden is up for this job, whether he's up for the debate. He's been hiding for six months in his basement, so I'm interested in his mental acuity. I'm interested in the guy's gas machine, so we're going to see firsthand tonight. Whether he could go 90 minutes without a Gaff. If you can go 90 minutes standing on a stage no teleprompter. No. Mrs Biden, no Dr Biden to help him answer questions. Nobody with no cards. You know it's going to be a very interesting, you know, thing. Toe watch. Ah, on one hand, and on the other hand, you have the issues which are all on Donald Trump's side, because if we make this if it's the president Make this issue makes his campaign and the debate site and is able to talk about these issues. Whether it's higher taxes versus lower taxes, more job killing regulations versus fewer regulations, whether it's open borders and free health care for illegal immigrants. Whether it's Ah, anarchy in the streets and be funding the police, or is it about lower taxes and cutting regulation and creating the vibrant economy that we had? Before the Chinese buyers. What, Or is it about border security isn't about supporting, you know, are our men and women in blue and making sure that the president continues to have their back? So this is This is what Ronald Reagan called bold colors, not pale pastels. Let's create a stark difference between the two candidates, and that's what President Trump is going to do tonight, and I think it's gonna shine. I think he'll shine. He's not going to be put off by anything. Joe Biden give me a break. You know Donald Trump, you know, going to be very forward leaning, and he's going to be ready for anything that that Joe Biden throws at

Biden's Agenda for the Latino Community with Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia
"I'm Jim Taylor skinner, and this is the electorate. On this episode I have a conversation with representatives, Sylvia Garcia of Texas twenty ninth congressional. District. Discussed Biden's agenda for the Latino community and what we can expect from Bein Harris Administration including their plans to address income and healthcare disparities and the disproportionate impact of Kobe purpose. Of course, also addresses those criticisms of the campaign around whether their outreach to the Latino community is enough. So here is my conversation with representative Sylvia Garcia. Purpose Garcia. Welcome to the PODCAST. Well. Thank you for having me. If I I want to talk about the Biden Campaign I. Guess these are criticisms not doing enough to connect with the Latino community, and if you think that that assessment is fair or do you think that there's more work to do there? Were you know I think people are just so excited about the Joe Vying Kamala Harris. Ticket that everybody wants some light right there now in their neighborhood at knocking at their door, I mean, they're that excited about this ticket that I think there's some folks who who just feel like until they go come to their neighborhood, it's just not happening but but I know I serve on the National Latino. Council. For by now early supporter I know that from day one joe by his been reaching out to Latinos but I know that we can always do better. Anything that we could do to make sure that we reach more. Latino voters. Not Just in Florida not just in Texas not just in California. New York Arizona. New Mexico but everywhere across the country because if you look at any state these days we have Latinos everywhere we have them in Hawaii. We have him in Alaska. So I think what matters is knowing that that he has started his spanish-language press he started making sure that we we air as much as possible. Eh, he's gotten. The Latino Leadership Councils now in several states, I know I'm working on building up in in Texas because he wants to make sure that he touches the Latino community in especially also is Dr. Biden I think Dr Binding early on recognized Latino vote was and more importantly how important Bill Latino vote was that I know that she had a virtual event with with the would we call the commoditised synagogue Nestle. Which is Debbie Powell from Florida. Veronica, grammar from from Texas and myself were all three Judiciary Committee and people here called on ESCO mothers did judiciary it stock and Jill heard about it and wanted to do an event with us and we did, and now we're going to launch a commodity to commodity campaign to make sure that we impress all our voters that we got to vote until one mother to another. To remind work in our own mother network to make sure that we come out and vote to make sure that we make the change that's needed at the White House. So I'm excited. So one of the things I've found really impressive about Biden's response to that specific criticism is that he wasn't defensive and I think you know right before he visited Florida reporter asked him about. Whether there wasn't enough outreach to the Latino community and buying said something like you know I'm going to work like the devil to make sure that I listen and their vote. So he was open to the idea that there was room for improvement and I think both by an Harris are both consistent in responding without being defensive you know and they bring people to the table. There's a lot of work to do and I think we can always do better and I can tell you Scott along with surrogate were willing to do that. He's he's got a lot of people on the ground. Excited to do that. I mean I can tell you a story Saturday I. Don't do too many in person events, but they wanted me to go to a phone bank and I was assured that were social distance everybody's a math. And I went and the minute I walked in it was about Sylvia Joe Sylvia Joe. Any they know the job blindness running. They're excited because. It hurts them to see a White House that is about hurting people for us in. Texas. It's about what we've seen him doing at the border, but it's also seeing that they're not getting more help and more relief on for everybody on unemployment. It's also about what he's doing to Medicare and social security because that hurts our relief does on our lead us. So people know and they know the to make the change that we need they're going to have to get there in those phones. And? Of, course, the member of Congress I've First Ladies First. So that became their chance. Soviet Joe and I told him I said well, it's not just a joe as it Soviet Joe more contests. So I left him with at Madeira. Very excited. You're making calls and Were Spanish language of phone calls to low propensity Latino voters in Harris County
