"Publix. Now no more capacity in South Florida. Don't continue to fall all those developments as well. Right now that we're gonna talk about mental health and on that particular note, there is a new initiative in Miami Dade, A the 211 hotline. They're now making available mental health assistance through the Jewish Community Services of south border in conjunction with Jackson held. So if you are suffering a mental health issues pretending to the virus or as suppose, other related considerations again to 11 in Miami Dade and help is there for you Now here, Tonto talk about this is somebody who works in this, says psychologist Day in and day out, Dr Stephanie Tackle and she works with FM HC and specializes in the mental health for youth and Dr ankle. You know, we've gone through an unprecedented time, obviously with this pandemic. And we were talking about mental health issues with Our youth. Well, before we got to the pandemic, it had been a big challenge already. How much more pronounced is it as a result of the pandemic? Well, that is an excellent question. And thank you so much for having me on today to talk about it. You know what? What we're seeing is, unfortunately, um we're seeing an uptick in the symptoms of mental health issues. They're already there for our kids, The ones that were present that we were talking about and watching before the pandemic. We're also seeing a lot of new anxiety and depression and Um, you know, this is really difficult for all of us to go through, and I think that it's arguably even more difficult for our kids because they don't yet have all the tools to cope with this level of change the way we do so it's been very concerning for them. Something you just said was really interesting to me. You know predisposition in this, perhaps exacerbating it. You know, for example, what We'll talk about people who are at risk for cancer. Really? Obviously, certain people have You know predisposition for certain types of cancer that puts them at greater risk of any number of other factors that could increase that risk. Are you saying at this point what you're saying is that those who already had a predisposition towards say depression, for example. That's that's being exacerbated in and not necessarily people who were otherwise of, you know, kind of sound mental health previously Well, in some cases, yes. So what we do see is where someone has a predisposition or already suffered from depression or anxiety. For example, they are probably Suffering more this year than they were last year at this particular time, But we also have people, especially Children, who have never really shown any signs of anxiety or Depression or any mental health concerns and we're seeing them now because this is a level of stress that it's a long term stressor. It's what we call chronic stress. That is unprecedented in our modern times. So, um, we're also learning our way through it. But, yeah, we were seeing a lot of different variables that work here, and that's why we are still in the profession Where on the ground, everything will day day in and day out. Trying to get services to as many people as possible for people are really struggling. How much of it is a chemical reaction and how much of that is potentially controllable? Um That's a tough question to answer because usually where we see that there is any kind of chemical imbalance or reaction. There are other factors that are at play. There is very rarely just 11 variable in terms of the impact of mental health symptoms and issues. So even if one thing kicks it off, like a chemical reaction or the stress of a pandemic, usually then other things work together and can complicate or result the situation And the reason I wanted to ask you that question. I I appreciate the answer as well. It's because I think far too often we end up with crutches, and it's really easy to go. Okay, well, anxiety here is, you know, prescription, you know. Go. Go do this, and it'll all be better when In reality underlying factors are necessarily addressed that way. We're speaking with Dr Stephanie Ankle, a psychologist who works on mental health, especially specializing and youth mental health. So we had into it. The schools we know that you know the socialization with other kids and everything else can play a very important part role for many kids. How is that factoring into the issues that you're you're saying Well, it's absolutely huge related tol the way our Children are responding to depend on Mike, because, um, you know, schools are a safe haven for so many kids. It's where they get their socialization. It's where they get a lot of their mental health services. It's where they have Access to school psychologists or guidance counselors or teachers who listen and ask questions right. It's also a place where they can contact their friends and they can learn and feel productive and successful. And so many of these things have been taken away from them. So we're looking. Everybody says Oh, yeah. They're not. My kids aren't seeing their friends and that really is wearing on them. Yeah, it absolutely is. But there are so many elements to it as well. We've seen a anywhere from a doubling to a tripling of students who were remote learning in Miami Dade and Broward that are failing. Now how much of that is related to The difficulties associated with the online learning versus potentially being in a Just not a good place mentally because they're not in environment that suits them, and that puts them in a better frame of mind to learn. Right? And I think that the those two pieces are inextricably linked is the way I like to describe it. You cant tear them apart from each other, So I'm always trying to remind parents Teachers. For example, when I do consultations, I'm always trying to help everyone. Remember, this is not difficult Technology alone. This is not the difficulty of signing into do Ah, lot of this has to do with the fact that our kids are depressed and their anxious and they're angry and they're lonely and it makes it really hard and we have to take that into consideration will be put Academic interventions in place, right like plans to help our kids improve. We need to be focusing on their mental health as well. It's a It's a good message. What do you recommend? Parents do that haven't necessarily reacted but are hearing you describe this and going. You know what? You know, this might be one of my kids. One of the things that I always encourage parents to do is to talk to their kids, right? I think that a lot of times we consider it hard or we want to come off looking strong and like you're coping with this virus and modeling for our kids, but one of.

"Here's Doug Pike. All right. Welcome again to 51st and foremost for Those of you who were impacted in any way by hurricane or hope. Pray that you will recover fully and quickly from whatever she left in her wake. Hurricanes are great examples. Of how much alike. People really are. Hurricane doesn't care who you are. What you have what you don't have. If you're in it's way you can't help but be impacted by it. We also learned a lot about people. By the way, they act after hurricane help people come out of their homes when the wind stops, they assess and deal with their own issues their own damage. And then most of them. Those who are able tend to go looking for neighbors who need help and by neighbors. I mean anybody in a lot of cases within 102 100 Miles. Amazing how people come together in time of crisis. I was amazed at the outpouring of help behind Hurricane Ike back in 2008. And just three years ago, Hurricane Harvey Everywhere There was flooding after Harvey boats just appeared out of nowhere to get people out of the water and back to safer places. That is who we are. That is what we do. So looking forward instead of backward I'm generally encouraged by the way our city is emerging from the confusion and chaos that surrounded covert 19. Cents. What March? We've settled into a temporary normal that includes some inconveniences. Masks online learning that sort of thing, and I call it a temporary normal because I'm confident this is going to pass. I can't tell you when, but I With confidence. Khun tell you it will. I can't imagine a world in which there are no concerts, no fans allowed at sports events, no outdoor festivals, no kids in schools. Think about how far that is removed from where we were a year ago. I've done enough interviews recently on the emotional impact of the past six months two to know that it's not healthy. But our country's strong our people are strong and we will do this moving forward down a brighter path. Let's talk about today's show. Little deeper into the hour. I'll speak with Dr Bryant on something of a follow up really, to my recent conversation with Dr Ankle Khosla from university pain, I'll talk to Dr on about how chronic pain impacts people with cognitive issues. Dementia, Alzheimer's disease that kind of stuff, well, deep dive also into another subject. We've covered generally just a few weeks ago, as a matter of fact, when we speak with Mitch Clay from Easy Bath, a company that focuses On remodeling in one of the most one of the most important rooms in the house. Okay, lots of new options available for folks looking for a bathroom makeover, a lot of which can make our bathroom safer, too. Now that we're Not a spry not as strong as we once were. That happens. Also in the show. We'll take a walk on the the wilder side, certainly, at least for seniors and visit with a company that says we are never too old. To go sky diving. I haven't even spoken with the people who are going to do the interview yet, but I'm confident that when I ask how old their oldest first jumper was, it will be a number. That blows your mind You watch and see. I have not yet jumped out of a functioning airplane. I have no intention to but I got a feeling I may be tempted by this conversation. Maybe if enough of us jumped out of airplanes this month, and next month, we could reverse all the negative energy. 20 twenties heaped on us So far. Maybe I'm looking for volunteers to go first. I won't be first. But there's a possibility I could be next. So I found something on Facebook the other day. Can't remember if I shared it or not, but I did find it quite funny by all accounts. I believe it to be actually, a true story. Seems that a woman a senior woman found need to visit a new doctor. For some reason, the names seem familiar, but she couldn't place it quite and when she finally came face to face with this guy Even though he'd put on a lot of way, lost most of his hair and otherwise, not age with grace. She was certainly been a classmate of hers back in the third grade. She had to ask. Excuse me, But did you happen to attend so and so high school back in the late sixties? Why? Yes, the doctor replied. I did, to which the woman replied she'd recognize his name and that he did look vaguely familiar, and boy wasn't that a fun time in such and the man agree with her and Said something about how much time had passed and how it had taken a bit of a toll on him. And she politely agreed, but in her mind felt some sympathy for how tough the years had been on this guy. Right up until he asked this question of a former classmate. By the way, he said to her What subject did you teach? Oh, she was not happy. A little recap 2020 in my head. So far, we've still got four months of it to go and It's certainly had its inglorious moments hasn't virus specific? Spit it out? Doug Virus specific statistics aside. I think the single most remarkable phenomenon of 20 to 20 to date has to be the hoarding of toilet paper. That started way back in March and did not abate. Really? Until what? Maybe 56 weeks ago. You still can't just walk casually into the grocery store, confident that you'll find A dozen rolls of your favorite brand. I'm guessing there are people in this audience, too, who are still whittling away at their original toilet paper stockpiles. Rolls and rolls and rolls that they stack in the master bath closet for Yeah, well, the laws they could find it. They bought it, huh? We'll be using that for a long time to come. One thing. I'm glad to see you back on the shelves, hand sanitizer. I use that pretty often these days. Even got a little bottle on my golf bag, courtesy of my friend Daniel Cook, a physical therapist over.

"Monday a whole slew of companies filed to hit public markets in various ways including SPEC ways, but I didn't get cover all of them. So I thought I'd highlight one of them. That's particularly interesting. Asana for a few reasons ASANA. Is Interesting A it's a successful team management SAS platform. Be It's filing papers say revenue is up eighty six percent year over year, which is impressive because see a son is actually over a decade old. So it's taken the time to build a serious business. Also, D one of the founders of Asana is Dustin Moskovitz one of the cofounders facebook in fact, dustin was once the youngest billionaire. And History. Next one big company we did cover this week in terms of its ambitions to be on the public markets Pailin tear, which is finally hitting the public markets after the better part of two decades of its secretive existence, which was why I mentioned. Some people were actually questioning the strength of pound. Here's business model once we got their paperwork. PARENTI, you're only has a couple of hundred customers and therefore biggest customers account for maybe a fourth of all revenue and after all this time, why is pound here? Not Bigger people had been expecting at least a billion a year in revenue and that didn't pan out. So. What people were whispering is is penalty here a new kind of SAS company or is it just a glorified consultancy? Well, I, turned one of my favorite newsletters the diff for a deep dive into what the pound tear s one can tell us about pallares business, and the conclusion is roughly this. A pound here is a strange company in a complicated industry. If they're a consulting shop with a great sales pitch, they're clearly over hyped the sales pitch might lend them clients and get them cheap employees, but that should be visible in their margins. By now, if there are software shop who suffer is complicated enough that it requires a significant investment. Of developer time though they have the natural advantage that all complex products have Pailin, tear will pay the cost to install it but the customer is on their own when they tried to get rid of it pound. Here's overall margins look awful especially for a company of its maturity but unit revenue looks better the bigger its customers get and the longer they've been using the product, and since to yourself to some of the biggest customers on earth over time, their overall margin picture will be dominated by those giant mature accounts and quote. And we disagree with a lot. Respectfully. And I think if we sat him down explain I think he would agree that if you go to single payer where everybody gets tax more. And by the way, it's everybody. It's not just the wealthy. But everything is free after that. And that's how it go premiums. None that duck doubles. None co pay not. That's what they're telling us. "Fix it. So we had one of our listeners Email, and we got something wrong on Pete Buddha. Chech- I don't even know what pronounces name. We said Pete Buddha challenges for free college. He is not. So with just letting you know, Pete Buddha. Judge is not for free college. But I want to read about Pete Buddha chech- because you know, we're reading up on them. And I got to tell you something. I'm gonna say one paragraph on why I love the guy. Love him. Absolutely love them. Pete served as a Lieutenant in the US navy. Reserve. And then took an unpaid seven month leave during his mayoral term to deploy to Afghanistan. I deploy. To maui. He goes to Afghantistan. I love the guy for his counterterrorism work. He joined the he earned the joint service combination. Metal good on people to chech-, by the way. He's in these eighth and final years may of south bend, Indiana. Pete was first elected mayor in two thousand seventy eight to twenty nine and reelected in two thousand fifteen with eighty percent of the votes and the thing else I printed out his all it's like his own whatever. So we don't. Give his own words. But let me give you people to chech- like we've done with all the other people. He believes in raises raising taxes on the wealthy. His quote. I'm quoting him. The reality is there are some that are not paying their fair share with we heard that before he has no problem raising the more general tax rates. He has no problem with a wealth tax. He has no problem with raising the estate tax. He has no problem with a financial transactions tax. He wants to switch shifts towards single payer Medicare for all. But says it should be a transition. Supports the Paris climate agreement and the green new deal. He says that climate change is a national security threat. He says we could abolish the electoral college thinks we should have more than nine supreme court justices. Remember, we told you why they're saying that because the Republicans now have and I don't know what they're complaining about because Republicans what a five four right now. No, maybe six toward six three ion whatever the John is going moderate. What's his face Gorsuch has been going a siding with liberals. He supports for God's universal background tricks. And a pathway citizenship for dreamers. So that is Pete Buddha. Oh, by the way, this is coming right from the horse's now. And we disagree with a lot. Respectfully. And I think if we sat him down explain I think he would agree that if you go to single payer where everybody gets taxed more, and by the way, it's everybody. It's not just the wealthy. But everything is free after that. And that's how it go premiums. None that duck doubles. None pay not. That's what they're telling us. What simply happens is when you know, you've already paid for in every move is free. It gets abused. Got a coal clinic. Dr. Ankle twist hospital. They have that in the United Kingdom and go look up the NHS problems. Just put that up there and go read. By the way, that's the NHS telling you. It's called shortages. And wait times. And I use the stupid analogy. But it's true. You ever see a seven eleven when they have their free slurpee days. So that's just the huge mistake. And plus the other part of the equation. Whatever they tell you the cost is going to be times by two or three because now governments taken it over. So we would love to see a Buddha get a little bit more moderates. And you know, we think of the green new deal, but we love the guy. Anybody who would leave his mayoral job duty? The goat Afghanistan. We good with. We are good with and we would shake his hand than we would salute him. All right. So we are pre-tape in the show in the four o'clock hour, so the market is closed yesterday were pre-tape in the show in the last hour. And I said there's no way Google is going to miss numbers.
