"Times have changed tremendously. Yes and the reason. I was worried about the city of tiffany barging into my door. When i said i don't like to read is because tift in is the reading capital of the world. I didn't know that. Internet or monica About probably fifteen years ago There's probably something Remember the name of accelerated reader is the program and our communities one the first ones in the country that except to this thing kids get like points they get all the stuff they buy things the accelerated reader store and so one i guess it was one thursday It was when we all set well when our community decided this is gonna work out. They had this big reading thing. We supposedly set a guinness book. Roll record of the most people reading the same thing at the same time out loud. We had our entire stadium. Everybody read a dr seuss paragraph together. That was the celebrate. The fact that we had collected one million accelerated reader points and no community had done that before. And so when we did that. That's when we declared ourselves the reading capital of the world. I love it. I love it. I love it. We'll put you on a little game of something that i do. i I don't mind reading books. But i'm like you i like to listen So i do a lot of podcasts at audio in one of my colleagues actually put me onto this And i don't do everything but i do it For quite a bit of audio. That i listened to i played on x. And it allows me to consume more information in a short tob in my colleague. Dr adam ramsey. I gotta give him a shout-out to that. So that's all i'm able to consume a lot of information and what i end up doing is i'll listen to these books on y- audible or podcast and if it's a book listen to it but then i'll buy the book and put it on my shelf that way i can always go back and reference it or buy a book first and then i'll go look at myself and say i'm albina get that on audible so that.

"Hey this is something that has been important to us. But maybe we haven't clearly articulated our goals and what we wanna accomplish as it relates to diversity equity and inclusion and what we wanna do internally or parker and and then how can impact the communities that were part of and so we created our racial equity strategy that has ten pillars and Has very clear goals around what we wanna accomplish. Whether that is increasing representation within where parker not just overall but within our senior levels and management levels to provide trainings for our team internally or to think about the ways that we can impact the greater the broader communities that we were a part of that including the optometry community and and One pretty shocking stat. Is that only two point seven percent of optometrist's in this country identifies black And we know that optometry is a great profession and There is no reason for that disparity Relative to the overall makeup of the country and so We were talking with our personnel and and thinking through ways that we could help address adan and In this was right after netco had signed onto the thirteen percent. promise thanks to black perspective and We talked about cable. What's the easiest way that we can ensure that there are more black optometry students and greed that the best way to provide full scholarships to students. And so we. We kicked that off last year and a half. A couple of great optometry students at nikko through that scholarship in We've recently expanded that to cover additional students in so We're excited to be able to do our part to ensure that their students who are getting that grade education from netco were A recruiting teams all spending time At a lot of historically black colleges and universities through career fairs Educating students on the fact that optometry is a great profession and Making sure that our recruiting efforts in education efforts Help a drum of interest for different career paths Within the world now is great work and you know when you put when you put money where your mouth is. You know that speaks volumes and i know you know dr howard cosell personally as you do and he told me straight up you know the Mono of students color the black hispanic it jumped quite a bit and is because you know he understands the importance of diversity and yeah that number two point seven three percent. I mean it's been flat for quite a bit of time. In regards to the amount of optometry students entering optometry school and to have optometrist's even lower mean. That's that's bad you know. The thirteen percent promised for those that are unfamiliar with. It is something that myself. Dr adam ramsey created over at black hair perspective and whole goal was to really make sure that the care industry reflects the us census and at the time is around thirteen point. Two thirteen point four percent of blacks that were in the united states. So we wanted to see that in. I care we wanted to see that With the students. We wanted to see that with Optometrist we wanted to see that with Leadership positions for positions even eyewear.

"We made the ultimate decision that we can't put the anyone else in the office in jeopardy until we have. A new results in, but this is a person who passed the temperature chat. All the other screening questions and there's all these great areas. Doctors just don't know what to do so. You know it's great to have a resource where you can ask someone that's been there and done the research because you're gonNA. Come up with questions, but you not run the answer to yet exactly it pulls from a lot of very reliable sources from our national organizations from the CDC, but instead of you having to read through pages and pages to find that one tidbit you need. It's in little sound bites in little snippets there through the website that are easy to digest. Noticed that earlier when I was reviewing overdose like this This is my my style here. I consume so much information that sometimes. I just don't have time to read an entire article so I need all the main points that we can move on in to the to the next big thing, you know we keep hearing how you're such an expert, a good expertise in a part of this advisory board. Let's talk about this board. Who else is on the board and How how are you guys selected for this board? I mean was it was that you just said? I need you you. You basically put together to dream. Team, and now we're about to take over the world and make sure everyone can reopen up their practice perfectly. Is that the do? I I'd like to say that. Yes, that was the the goal, but really it came down to knowing that the site is geared towards all three of our. Our opticians are off the Malla Jan an optometrist. As well I wanted to make sure that we represented the the the each profession I wanted to make sure that we had individuals who frankly could look at the signing dull. Yeah, that's not working for me or In theory. That's great article, but again that doesn't help me where I'm at right now. What we is a profession. What I need is a practice what my colleagues need. Is. X. Y. and Z, and that's really where we started where I started. This team. So we have dodger Greiner, who represents Really can represent all facets, but in leadership in ophthalmology in an ophthalmology practice as a practicing optometrists with an MBA so. The industry inside and out we have Dr Adam Ramsey from social vision in Florida..

"And look at it but it just tells you one hundred thirty seven clever ideas that you should check in your practice. That could be wouldn't example when you call when a patient calls. Let's say it's a mom in an eye exam for herself? Are you asking? Will her beauty. You have kids that we could schedule for also so just by asking that question you went from having one appointment. Two appointments now arrive stuff. We do is Cripple who appointments and acted stole that line when you call silhouette eyeglasses. What else can I get you thinking? Well Dang maybe I'll get colored blue and red in addition to the normal when I got. Yeah that's I. I love that. Because even the optometrist prescribing from the chair you know the first thing. I do whenever I see a patient and a half something at a called a two minute drill where basically? I don't talk about anything I related. I get to know my patient and by that that two minutes minutes how long it takes I know that they have a son adores significant other by the end of the exam. I know the educate that patient that. Hey you know what? Let's go ahead and get so and so in for the routine eye exam. They play baseball. We definitely educate them about daily contact. Lenses some type of sunglasses as well so Martin. Planning Nazi but I'm taking the ocean by just utilizing the resources right in front of me. So I'm with you on that. I mean makes a big difference in regards to the purpose of other stuff as far as checklists go. When's the last time you checked your credit card rates? Did you know by simply calling your current vendor and knowing competitive rate match it and right away in in twenty minutes you can save five hundred bucks. Oh Wow that five hundred dollars by five years in its twenty five hundred bucks. That's vacation to Nigeria. Ask that's true man. I mean that's that's a great way of thinking so let's go through these steps man. Let's start with step number one Crusher sales if you don't mind liberate on that now love to get Dr Adam Ramsey's opinion about this because I know he's like me he loves I wear and I know he's killing it down there because everyone that walks through is door gets a pair of glasses eclectic coating blue light protection Photo chronic liver disease. You name it all the bells and whistles so number one with which crush our sales I would start with pricing if if patients are complaining about pricing. You're charging too little. You want that little friction. That mean ache getting a little upset. But they're still buying that's number one start with tester pricing out. It might be two point seven markup or might be a three point eight. You don't know next thing I would recommend on church. Our sales's need gotta stay patient down. You can have them roaming around looking at the birds looking like they're looking for the best barbecue at your grocery store not barbecue. By the way North Carolina's the home of the best barbecue at star some conflict out here. So we'll leave that load your mustard base rate. I think is is mustard. Vinegar wanted to. I don't know but did bomb. It's good it the same tomato base. The Senate wants okay. The city silence tomato. But anyway if you sit down we become the professional so it allows us to control what inventory that we're selecting from frame lords and you have to slow people down when people visit my eye doctor or socialite vision. They've made a choice in in their head. They're already thinking. I know you know Dr Jones down. The street also has nice eyeglasses or XYZ cheap. A website has glasses so they're already thinking about going somewhere else but when you sit them bound they become comfortable and give them a barrel water. The simplest things are at people. Yeah I mean you you. You hit the money on head. I mean during this Kobe. Nineteen process We've had some patients that come in that or it emerged patients and it turned into refracted care and having that only patiently opposite in sitting down and actually finding supremes of bringing it to them. They were at ease in just ready to buy and spin and they feel like with. This process is actually elevated the overall capture rate as well. So I'm with you on. That was out Ramsey I would say to crush our sales. You really need to find out the knee of the patient if you meet.

"Management and more so. Sit Back Relax anti focus. Welcome to the deep. Focus Media podcast. It's your favorite optometrist Dr Darrow blubber. And I'm hanging out with the guy that has all the aspects Dr Adam Ramsey and today's guest is very special and this podcast. This interview is perfect. Timing because we all know the landscape of optometry is changing and it's just do the covert nineteen but with this Kobe. Nineteen is really opened up a lot of holes in our practices that we didn't really know about so today. We're GONNA talk about how we can amplify your practice. Prophets with the one and only Mr Perry. How're you doing today? Sir? I'm doing excellent here so cloudy. I'm kind of anxious to go exercise. I've been missing the gym. I don't know about you guys. You know I've actually since we've been in this Kobe. Nineteen state. I've actually been walking more. I have my dumbbells have been hitting those. I was just tired Ramsey prior to you coming on my wife looking at me and you know getting my sexy bag so have you changed my eating habits. I wasn't eating crazy before but You know my my mother's African. My my wife is Africa. We like you know some of the not healthiest foods out there. So you know it's all about moderation some living at life right down there curl Dr Ramsay. You're looking for a venue. Have outside I I like to eat. The food is important. Mass on these places they they cater elicit it's I. It's like Nah game right right well again guys today. We're GONNA talk about how you can amplify practice. Profits with the Perry Brill period before we get started man. Let's just talk about you. I mean who are you? Where are you from? How'd you get into the industry? Let's educate the listeners. About your background right. Perry from Johnny Kansas a suburb in the Kansas City area and I went to the University of Kansas have a degree in environmental studies. However I need to jam and or Beer Money. You know in food like most of us Luckily had a good dad paid my tuition. And so I just wanted to work in a in a private practice out there Lawrence Stanley Vision Clinic. Four eight sixty years of their this in had education. Who would ever knew that I liked. I were like I care. That was we ended up joining batch. Practice Rely Center who was my mentor. Forty years and I've enjoyed connecting with people. Like you are smart and innovative. Nounce join giving advice. Hopefully yeah you know I. I am a avid reader. Avid Fan of your facebook page. That you have and I just love the dialogue and energy that you create when it comes to just talking about private practice in an how to just increase your profits in general so you know. I was just thinking this. Just blitzed the best time to really elevate your platform and talk about it because you have some great stuff man. I mean you are really changing game regardless the house. Thomas Thing Even Dr Adam Ramsey night we sit down. We have these conversations in you. Know your name POPs up Frequently these conversations about some of the cool things to bring into the ICARUS industry. I appreciate you know my goal is really some people may like the things we say the things we say but as long as we can get people to start thinking executing we can give great advice all day long but until so executes in spins a dollar. Nothing's going to happen. So Gotcha Gotcha those that are watching right now Dr Ramsay is with us. He will be in and out because he's actually patient care So we see them disappear not because he doesn't like us it's because you know he's working he's back in the mix right now but a period. I hold it down right now is that he is Switzerland and I hate talking. Has that only say the same thing all the time and it gives you nothing new and he takes a lot of creativity from areas outside of I hear and breathing in and tries to infuse it and what I've seen? He's walking walking. You know talking to talk and I love you know. Perry and dad drops something they know. I'm buying I down. Were about is there like. Hey you should do this later. I'M ON THE RECEIPTS. Allow did it. Wasn't that go. I love it? That's why you have patient care. Today I had to get on this Get lifted nuggets and I will have to dip out because I had a patient mercy but I'm always with all right. Let's go you're right Dr Ramsay you are. I don't know how many pieces of equipment you've bought during code but but still progressing and not thinking about the doom and gloom side which is refreshing near Phnom rate. I'm rob about making a additives by that. Let's so period. I Really WanNa touch on something Big Box versus independent box. You know you are big guy that the hell with the big box companies. Let's keep independent and keeping just keeping it real neil other how. I am a big box guy but I'm also independent. Bocskai some kind of like that hybrid mixture of both I see pros and cons of both mild to my goal is just to make sure that we have. I care available for all the people in the world that way they could see better and live longer. Is well if you don't mind just giving us an overview on how you got this perspective More of an independent box love rather than that big box. Correct me if I'm wrong in regards to anything that I've stated right so you're I I do take a stance in optometry in. I'm an independent guy. I like my freedoms in why was if you don't take a stance you have no stanford so I can't support both sides necessarily so I try to stick up for independence and give them a voice and as far as cares though for patients. The number one thing is providing professional care in a in a work friendly environment at reasonable fees. And if we can do that on the big box side or the independent side. I think that's most important bring I hate price margie when I think price-gouging occurs in healthier way too much. Yeah I mean bring up some great points that Ramsey. What's your your feedback in regards to big box for small box companies out there. Because you're a man that has the practice you're crushing it. And I know you use certain Lens products and you use of the products that are independent. Like let's talk about listless really dive deep into this like practice. Owners Isa do as best for them and sometimes going with the big conglomerates gives me of the Owner more access to products that may not have access to in other places and sometimes. I get a better dealer better value. Who with the big boss person and at other times the independent may be cutting edge and find a way to get me a better margins better cost of goods and on different cool unique ideas that a big ship may not be able to implement as quickly because it's a big conglomerate so I think at the end of the day practice owners need to look after that he does other businesses looking out for themselves. And somebody's coming at you trying to sell your realize that they're doing in their best interest no matter what they say. It is in their best interest. Now you have to figure out from that conversation. How you have mutual symbiotic relationship. We can both benefit from this exchange. a lot of times the other businesses benefit. Because they know you're you're adding negotiating table you have we're doing contract in the deal between me and you buy your product and I sell it over here. They are trying to get the best out of that deal for themselves as best as possible or business owners really needs understand. Not Personal is strictly business until I signed until I do something. We're still negotiate. So I think there is a space time and a place for any company to come into my office. Anybody else's Office because even the independent can screw you over. They ask small companies that go under. Don't take care of their people. They don't answer the phone so just being independent and not being a part of the the the the big three is not the only answer united being sometimes the one that lost out they also bid for those Big Contracts Walmart and Warren Parker. They just lost also do XYZ. Well actually you put in a bit and you're one of contract you with a sold out to by on thousands of your friends. You WANNA sold it. They just didn't want to buy your friends. So let's not act that you're on his high and mighty and you know your your baby. Jesus over there no. You just didn't win the the yard so opposites needed best four and make sure they understand the rules. Change between comedies. Yeah I think it's just it's really important you understand that organizations you work in so You know if you work in a twenty location private practice you need to understand the morals and ethics if you work in a thousand practice chain you also need to understand the organization in in believing it. That's really the most important part so I'm not anti but I do stick up for independence because that's who I choose awesome. We'll looks like we got a comment from one of our viewers. Stephen Steve Davis Stating Great Information Bank so much and it looks like there's another one here Looks like atom? You're preaching the Gospel. Everyone saying yes. Adam round of applause. Nothing at the Leo is no out of has all the answers. As I mentioned. Pack Berry I listen to this podcast every time they posted and then I still it and I sometimes will want that information that she two gentlemen just touched on is really setting us up for our show today again. You know the main point of this podcast in his interviews to really amplify practice. Prophets and pairing. Brill has come out with a company known as Iraq a consulting company. And if you don't mind Perry just give us an overview of what this business is about and then what I'd like to do is actually go through some of the steps that you've actually implemented into this consulting company as well right so I really took everything I learned in eight years of working at Brill. I center stalwart there. And you know we're one doctor looks and team a lean practice. We know operationally what to do and we can do something with fewer employees better too much staff and things coyote so we've systematized the office. Usually processes in an APP water software do make sales the word Iraqi does. I'm all about speed so I really follow online originalist now because you know. He's very repetitious. But he's all about the doesn't have to be perfect. If a woman named practice press tested out and then get rid of what doesn't work that Iraq adults. Yeah awesome awesome. We'll is dive into the to the meat of it. I mean let's let's start from the beginning In regards to someone that comes to you for services Let's take it from step one. You talk to them through a series of lists. You have a checklist. Of what a hundred seventy various things that you touch on I have a checklist online. One hundred thirty seven points in whether you're paying for my services or not you can go online.
