"In an effort to decrease person to person contact many businesses have chosen these interactive displays Pretty cool. You've seen them at BOOT BARN target, Taco Bell Red Robin. There are many are made by a company named Yellow John. Lamb. Is here to tell us all about it John Philipson. Yeah. Thanks having me Jefferson the re this pandemic people are trying to really look at their entire systems on and they're finding it ways in beans at which the they find deficiencies in their software package or their how their customers interact, and so they are migrating more towards different types of self service. It reduces that humid human contact it. It actually virtually can eliminate it. A person can walk up to a self service kiosks whether it's ordering tickets or whether it's you're actually seeing that right now in movie theaters that are reopening, you're seeing where they are trying to do social distancing I programming the system in the person can choose a seed, but other seats are blocked out. So they kind of have this this ability naturally and they never had to talk to a person. There's no, there's no worrying about six feet they're literally they can be twenty feet away from somebody as they purchase their tickets. But what about all those hands the Dover go over the unit all day long don't those contain germs. They do but several civil aspects of that one we know for a fact, we saw our cleaning protocols page just skyrocketed in usage when this pandemic started basically about early March. People have built these customers, these resellers, these retailers, they've all built a much better cleaning protocols in just really refined him to the newer guidance from the CDC the EPA. So do you recommend that the people store clean the machine every time somebody is used it. It doesn't have to be every time But. Typically. There's going to be a each retailer reseller or. whatever you know store would have kind of a they decide basically where they want to go with that how fast how often there's even certain things we can do in the firmware as to cause the screen to basically put a notice up based on certain touches and we've actually been playing with that recently. "God. Here we go. Again I, mean you can do better than that. You can make it better than that. Like show like show the Rolex twenty four and say Nascar is now racing on the same as something do something with it to make it more interesting. But Yeah and you would think that just because it was announced. So late and it's so unique that that that would spur it on some viewership but but no, in fact, not only did it not do as good as Daytona races it didn't do as good as Damn Glenn when the Glenn was on NBC in two, thousand, eighteen, three, point, six, seven, million. in last year's Glenn Race was two point, seven two. That's almost as many people in that was on NBC. esn. Yeah so it's market the marketing team of six llamas and a mule not doing great. Yeah it you know it's. It's really odd because I expected that they get some pop out of that. But obviously, not at all let's see here. Jimmy Johnson. Okay. Here's the thing with Jimmy Johnson for me. He is he was in that same friend zone with a win. That he's been in every time. He's been good this season I finished fourth his first top ten since Martinsville. But. It was the same story as every other top ten. He's ever had this year for the past two years for that matter. Every top ten Jimmy Johnson sat in the past two years has been A. Also ran top ten as never given you the idea the feeling that he could get up there and lead this race. It always feels like somebody is faster than the forty eight even if he's running frigging second, you know you're like, oh, there's probably two or three guys at about the pass him and that's where he ends up fourth fifth sixth. In this case, it was fourth and and is that good yeah he got some you know stage points in the first stage and I think he got a couple of the second stage I can't remember. But when you're when you've lost out on as many points as he has this year, you have to win I mean he's gotTa do better and he wasn't doing himself. Any favors even by finishing fourth. Yeah, it's kind of weird how that happened done. It now like everything everything whatever when everything's going on. But the good thing is that he's going to a place where he's relatively successful. Yeah. In Dover and back to back. You know barring anything catastrophic. This could be like like Daytona the big. Oval Daytona Big Big Dick. Daytona is the way it's GonNa go it's going to be fantastic for. and let's not forget because I had forgotten. As, I was going through. Jimmy Johnson. Stats. Didn't just have to sit out the one race, but he was also disqualified back in Charlotte at the beginning of the year. Remember that. Oh. Yeah. He would be in the playoffs probably relatively comfortably right now it kit kit. Can I use if he doesn't make the playoffs? Can I use that d q even though he didn't win? Yes. Me and you can. Absolutely. No No. Because if he didn't have that the cue, probably be inside you probably that he probably would've scored twenty five points in that race that was was Charlotte right shortly, Sean, good track for him. He probably would have scored twenty five points. So he would be at least tied right now, and then of course, the the race he had to sit out that me that's the margin whatever whatever. However, he would have finished a Kansas that would have been the margin. But you know it, it goes to show his luck in the past three years. Yeah. You WanNa talk about baseball players or football players hell. After they hit their prime, it just goes downhill let seem to happen that Jimmy and sometimes fault of its own no fault. It's super weird though man I mean you couldn't. You couldn't have scripted it any worse and essentially we it's very, very likely that we could be at the point. Where that was the thing which means that NASCAR kept their own like seven time champion of his final playoffs. But it shows they're not because if they didn't disqualify him, then people would be up in arms of why favouritism Yup no favouritism no conspiracy here at all man I respect them for having the CA hones. Looking back on it the alcohol on to do see that's where Jimmy Johnson from alcohol see what did there? Okay, never mind. Chris Buscher. Finished Fifth First Substances Pocono in his fifth of the season. And then we found out the real reason that Austin Dome was not in this race because he sucks at road courses and caused guerrilla obviously does not because he finished seventh is billing driver. Then he found out the night before he's only a part time xfinity driver. Big Run for him big run for him and one of the few drivers they could have gotten. Yes. Because the weekend was you only one run rate exactly exactly except for. They. made an exception for JJ. Yeah. Yeah. putting what's his name? Bailey Currie Bailey and the ride because yearly was dying literally and I wondered about that because when they put him in like wait a minute is he even eligible to run this race and I thought okay a it doesn't really matter and be there is thirty started selling. They had to switch drivers they're gaining any kind of advantage by doing that so But Yeah Kaz Crawl Man Awesome Ron good job for him. Yeah. No. Very good. Very good start to his his illustrious career, which is probably ended already. Because he doesn't have, he's not a dylan and he's not a children's so. What? So after the race. Then my my my other half was like well, if he did so well, why don't they put him in that car I'm like because his dad's not the is Oh the you know his grandfather shot the owner of the team. That's why But Yeah silver. Spoon. Michael McDowell Finish Tent. That's his first top ten cents in the only third of the season. Usual road course run for Michael. McDowell wasn't bad nece- decent there. Yeah. It wasn't top ten I mean he was legitimately up there. So, there you go. and then okay. So then that brings back around to the playoffs Bob Bubble and no matter how hard this is the Poopie thing about these goddamn stage points no matter how are you fight? You can always immune even have to finish that. Well, you can always hold your standing by just get a couple of stage points to offset what the other guy might have fought all race to get. Case in. Point. Jimmy Johnson by finishing fourth he did. Jump over Tyler radical a bad day and Eric Jones up. But he still twenty five points back. Which I think is very close. I mean I think you only gain like three or four points on William Byron. Right I. It's kind of weird. How how that happens right? She should should a little bit more that's so much. Finish William Byron did not in fact let me let. Let's see here..

"You guys did on fantasy and look forward to this weekend's double shot of Dover. Don't forget to racists Saturday and Sunday. Okay. Taking a look at the Daytona road course stage one winner goes to bones racing. Stage to winner is Kansas. Wisconsin Fan and the wind goes to racing Jason Forty. One good job folks I finished the fifty fourth position still maintaining my fourth spot in the overall standings. Toby Christie. You finished one hundred ninth. Sliding a little bit further down to twenty third. And, Forty eight fan boy Carey you beat both of us this week finishing and forty eighth, and you are now one hundred tenth in the overall standings. All right. Let's take a look at Dover and see who would be some good drivers to putting your lineups for these races, coming Saturday and Sunday starting with three time winner number nineteen. Martin. True Junior. He has been a short-track ace as of late and with his average finish of four point eight three in the last six races he's the guy to watch. He was able to climb to first place last year after inspection penalty put him deep in the field to start the race. He didn't collect any bonus points in the first stage, but he did collect some in the second stage along with the wind. You can be sure he will be in my lineup come Saturday, the second driver I'm looking at. He's got momentum coming into the monster mile the number nine car chase. Elliott. He has a career average position of eight point six in eight races. He's finished in top five in six of those races and he's pulled in bonus points in both stages. In last year's fall race he'll be my lineup as well and this week's Darkhorse the twenty car of Eric Jones. He's below the cutoff length of the playoffs. So stage points and wins are big on his radar Eric Score points in both stages last year along with average run position of nine point zero six. He's got nothing to lose and a whole bunch of people to impress trying to get a ride for next year. So look for the twenty to make some noise this weekend. Okay folks. Three races left before the playoffs begin. Dale do is still your leader. Let's go get him anyway. That's all I have free this week. Thanks for hanging around and listening to the final AP weekly fantasy. Update I'm Ryan Dragon Until next time. All right. There you have it. Rowdy dragons pick for this weekend. At Dover he's got nine, the nineteen, the twenty and I'm GonNa add the forty, eight, forty, eight also. All right. He's going to sweep the weekend. Did I mention that? Yeah you did. You didn't call this one you called to. But that's what sweeping the weekend is because there's too racist. Five. Well I mean cup series is all that matters. Unless we're looking for a guest and then you know, of course, we we branch out a little bit. Timmy hill or somebody who's been on the show or something like way minute exactly exactly chequered flag is flying on this show. This has been a finalist weekly catch us next week right here when we will recap the racing double style from over and preview Daytona again, only this time oval plate tracks and pack racing, and the track is narrower than Talladega and all that other stuff and all the stories in between toby you and I we really know stuff about Nascar we will although my analogy thing it was really bad because Timmy Hill is a fulltime cup series driver this year. That's a wrap. Another final lap weekly is in the books. The final weekly is hosted by Kerry Murphy along with Toby Christie proudly syndicated.

"Johnson. Talk starting position. Some guy named vk while I'm still matt. William. Byron Kurt Busch, and how is Kevin Harvick tenth? Well, it is a formula based on. Yeah. I. Got Your Formula. You could. You could shove your formula and a hat Mr. And owner points. So obviously, he's an owner points. which kind of helps them out in the rankings a little bit eight, million wins this year eight, million half. So like we said, all the other specs are the same. So let's get to last year's winner, Martin tricks junior and Kyle Larson who is non-existent this year. Check out all the Dover Double Header Action and even this is the same Saturday four PM Eastern on NBC and Sunday Four PM Eastern on NBC. WHOA it's like you're seeing double for everything. So I'm going to call it like I said Jimmy Johnson wins both not just make everything the same. Okay. All right drivers do and Dandy at Dover. Toby begins how about this we've got chase Elliott the guy who won the race this past week in ready for that, right? Here okay I the number nine, hundred motorsport Chevrolet won the last race at Daytona road course one, win six, top five, six top tens and the pole average finish a series. Best. Eight point six, five here Dover Kurt Busch has a win nine top fives twelve top tens average finish sixteen point six, twelve best hang on just a second. We've got a couple of audio clips from him Boo. Brad. 'CAUSE ocoee. Number two team penske forward. He has one win five, top five, eight top tens and a pole. I would finish thirteen point. Oh, five. Oh so what is dead? May Kevin Harvick? Two wins eight top fives nineteen top ten poll average finish of twelve point nine six seven seventh best. Kyle. Momentum Bush at number. Eighteen jobs racing Toyota three wins of this race track twelve top fives nineteen top tens in poll average finished with fourteen point three. That's eleventh best but his three wins tied him for second best among active drivers at this race track no wreck Martin Jerks junior three wins seven top five, sixteen top tens three polls at an average finish of twelve point one seven. How about this Guy Matt Kenseth maintains a good run right now Matt Kenseth. Three wins. Yeah. Three wins. So what? It's important seventy five, twenty, four top tens in poll average finish eleven point nine, two six, and we get to the best of the best of all of them more wins than all of them combined probably, Jimmy Johnson, the driver and the number. Forty eight hundred motorsports Chevrolet. He's GonNa Sweep the weekend watch that happened mark my words he's got eleven count them eleven I don't feel like counting them. It's too many eleven wins seventeen top five. Twenty five top ten people come on. Three polls doesn't matter this week but average finish eight point nine third-best forty-eight sweeps the weekend. Wow. Let's get to some audio Kurt Busch Twenty twenty it's been chaotic in many ways with a nascar and outside and curt breaks down what his team strategy has been during this ever evolving season, which has been a mess I mean there's there's quite a few factors most importantly my wife Ashley she's a very patient person and somebody that. Has a nice sense of calm around her. And when the season started off, and then we had this delay. We've we've really had to hunker down and protect ourselves and be in this bubble together. And that's the challenge that that twenty twenty is brought us, and then once we racing resumed in Oh with all the craziness and knowing, you're not knowing what to expect practice. I said, we need to build up our point space. If we can build up our point space, get some solid top ten's under our belt that's going to give us a cushion when we get into the summer months when and if we are back to practice or qualifying or when crazier things can even pop up. So I've just been about consistency. This year being that leader can Asiya right now with Kyle Larson's incident earlier this year trying to get up to speed is just trying to be that stable ground and it's been a challenge for me to do that and I enjoy it. It's been nuts is an understatement. So you know I was curious carry, and at last segment, we were talking about first and third best average finishes track can we never got to who is second in average finished? You know who that is no because they probably didn't have a win. They don't, but it's very intriguing actually ready for this. Okay. Are you really ready I. Mean you and your stats breaking up a Kurt Busch fans are going where's my second audio piece? Where's Mike Kurt? Daniel Suarez with point seven has your second best average finish at Dover among active drivers. All right. We got more Kurt. Yet, Kurt says lack of practice seems to be affecting veteran drivers namely, Kurt Busch and his brother Kyle Busch who have had a dismal Daytona this past week in and Jet To, win a race in two thousand twenty despite being the defending. Cup series champion. Sits actually something that Kyle and I my little brother we're we're confused about we've been flying together a lot and talking and being together a lot because we're in our own bubble as family. And we're we're still very puzzled kyle. Busch defending champion of NASCAR and doesn't have a win yet I don't have a win yet the only thing that we've able to look at each other and just stare into each other's eyes and go you know what we missed practice. We missed that feel in the car no, that's this is not the right way to go. This is the right way to go and we haven't been able to capitalize on that with no practice. So it's been tough. It's a challenge but yeah, I know what it takes to to set the preloading sway bar as far as different movement in the rear end with with Yaw it's it's again. It's gotTa try to find the right combination while the race track is rubbing in some of these tracks were the first series to hit the track, and then sometimes we're the last group to hit the race track and it's all rubbed in different. So lots of lots of variables and.

"I'm GonNa like you should just go the opposite. Okay. So I think you're gonNA hate the the Martinsville clocks now you like it. No that's not. At all I- I despise that thing. You want broken up miles the monster on the other hand is awesome and let's talk about that. Dover is this weekend some say it's just like bristle only twice the size. Oh Yeah. Okay. That's cool it's called the monster mile, which is a self cleaning concrete high banked superspeedway. All will that some people call track. FOR NEW NASCAR FANS are wondering. Wow, this thing. Like if there's dirt on the track, it just cleans up. Yeah. He's meaning is when somebody crashes into the wall because attract so narrow, you'll usually bounce off one wall, go sliding into the other an along the way you just take everybody with you do do me a favor new fans to Nascar Youtube Joey, llegado Dover Crash. That is the. Self cleaning. That is a good one. So Hey. Did you know there's a point six to five mile long horse racing track in the infield called Dover International. It's Dover downs. And holds harness horse racing events, which is. One horsepower. One lap I mean snooze fest. Exactly Sh-. All right. So this weekend we're looking at a mile in length banking it's pretty huge actually twenty four degrees and then nine degrees on the front and back stretches. We got an echo destined alert right here. Folks what both front and back stretches are one, thousand, seventy, six feet. That would be equidistant. Wow that's awesome. You know what? Also kind of equal are both races on Saturday and Sunday same specs To. Rights just one and two at the end of them. So we've got three hundred and eleven laps, which equals three hundred and eleven miles stages are seventy, one, fifteen and one, twenty, six for both races. Wow. That makes a pretty easy. Yeah and we know the top ten for the first race chase Elliott is your pole sitter and then you got Denny Hamlin Martin Tricks Junior Clint Boyer. I. Guess I've heard of him I don't know. Joy Lugano Jimmy Johnson. Talk starting position. Some guy named vk while I'm still matt. William. Byron Kurt Busch,.

"We are everywhere it is. It's it's it's starting to grow. It's it's crazy not only are we everywhere were every day now? So it's that's that's crazy to. That's pretty wild. All right You know there's one subject in Nascar above all else that I love talking about. We got a feeling. This is going to be about the forty eight. Yeah. Finally, something to talk about coming off a solid top five finish This past weekend of the road course at Daytona Jimmy Johnson is now heading to a racetrack where he's a bit comfortable in Victory Lane he's you know set up shop. He's put up drapes. He's got a nice couch. He's been there eleven times at this racetrack. That's a lot. And so mean I. It's safe to say he has tamed miles the monster, my favorite whatever you call it trophy so much so that they've actually got a forty eight ally Chevrolet in miles hands at the track. Now I saw that I was really happy about that. Yes that's pretty cool. So we're talking about Dover we haven't even gotten to the name of the track yet it's Dover. And when he's Not Getting wins. He's busy getting seventeen top fives twenty five top tens an average finish of eight point nine. We'll probably repeat repeat that here in a bit but I'm GonNA call it. I am going to call it this weekend look for the forty eight to run not only strong this weekend. It's a double header Dover weekend. He is going to sweep the weekend. I mean. I wouldn't discount for sure. He's on a little bit of a hot streak has four straight to finish twelfth better capping off with that, fourth? Place. Finish on Sunday. When you look at things, he has two shots at his favorite track. In back to back days and he starting sixth with the new formula that they've got out there and stuff starting twentieth or so the getting with the old formula. So I think the the advanced starting spot plus it being his favorite track and having to cracks in two days. I mean I hate to say it because you're going to be super happy about it but I win. I'm Dustin off the old bonanza machine get ready for next week. Already got a cute up. That's right. You've got the time allotted for it and everything. Bonanza like none other people yelling at their speaker right now you're crazy. You're nuts. Yeah. Probably like it's been so nice for the last three years of hearing. You have to sit there in the fetal position at Gimme a break. Let me have my time in the sun because it's soon going to be over I heard that he's retiring. Would really, yes, that's the rumor what and he keeps repeating it. That's crazy. I am not happy. He did not consult with me about that. That's really bad PR to be spreading rumors like that. Himself I know I know. Fan. What does this? As we talked about earlier, he's in a playoff bubble battle. Heading into, Dover so this is hold on before we get to any bubble stuff. Did you get your little plastic? Do Dad with the circle on on the top Yep? There is for bubbles. Yeah. All right. You Got Little Lavar soap and water. All right now, we are prepared to talk playoff bubbles. So. We were talking about this already. So if he doesn't win Johnson that is. And you know none of these guys in the bubble position wins. This is where we're standing going into Dover. Clinton Boyer is sitting fourteenth in the standing sixty six points to the good right now. So that's a pretty comfortable margin I would think, right? WHO's this now? Clint Boyer haven't heard of them. Okay. Matt Venedetto sits fifteenth in the standings forty four points to the good and the twenty one wood brothers car okay. I was waiting for you to at least interject something. I. Don't know who you want me to say. Looking for his first playoff berth there's that he pretty cool. you also have William Byron at number sixteen the last guy, the guy on the bubble twenty, five points to the good. Over Jimmy Johnson so Johnson has to make up twenty five points on William Byron Forty four points on Netto or sixty six points on boyer to get in. So hold on hold on William Byron is the bubble boy behind the plastic end Jimmy. Johnson is George Costanza Yeah Okay. So then of course, there are some guys that are behind Jimmy Johnson that you know I mean anybody in the top thirty points can still get in if they win a race. But if you look at the guys based on points Air Jones next behind Jimmy Johnson thirty five points back. So he is A. Point deficit a- Johnson for that. I got out spot and then tyler riddick the rookie who's been really good. Who I think could actually be the guy we need to look out for here but Air Jones also been very good at Daytona and we have woman race at Daytona before the playoffs as well. So that's something to think about too but radic sits fifty seven.

"Welcome listeners. This is sound. Only I'm Justin charity and I Mike Peters where your sound only co hosts here to record our deepest darkest thoughts about the twenty first century. In the millennial lifestyle, we're talking about rap music video games, anime youtube social media, and the wider Internet. This week were talking about versus the popular. Instagram live turned apple music web video series, which pits to musicians against one another to musical acts. I should say against one another in a competitive DJ set with the to musical acts in virtual attendance. Mike, LESCO let's talk about it. Let's let's let's talk about versus let's talk about versus the first one. Was In March we should say that it is Timberlands. Baby a first. Right. Timberlands, wispy stimulus whispers, baby They basically would have rumored placards like this is the this is the title card for next week it might be ti versus somebody, and then an ends up being somebody else. Well, tears is to that's the Ti yes, racist. Stand up just like sh- ti and tip need to just go ahead and settle their differences and realize the police also out here you understand. Right. So the verses series is really Thing that came out of like mutual adoration. I. Would Say Lake it was because I mean, the thing is when you hear verses, you see like it style is with the Z. and inflames and Times New Roman and superimposed over stuff you think that it's like a battle but it's not really no well first of all I think club, Promo? Fliers. Cobra. PROVO Yeah. Ladies. Get Him free before eleven the yeah. But I mean it's actually Nothing like that. I mean it's religious people playing music that they like at a room together. Right. But in a weirdly competitive context yes we should give a rundown of some of them like the match up so far for versus. You know it's been almost a couple dozen of them including Nellie verses, ludicrous. Teddy Riley versus baby face DJ premier versus Rizza Erica by dovers Joe Scott t pain versus Lil Jon. Yes. Yes. So last week the most recent versus matchup Rick Ross against two chains, which is a match up that you and I had. Or have a lot of opinions about. Yeah, you'd like we we do have a lot of opinions about this I. I genuinely believe that there was a period of time around two, thousand sixteen, where like two chains was. You now top five top three wrappers in the world and he wasn't like three you know but I mean like been again a lot of people find that view heretical I. Mean why heretical I dunno that add on moment that's the thing he had though that he had a moment on top of a moment you know what I mean he had a sort of I guess in rap you would think of it as a sort of emeritus moment where was that? We recognize the two chains had been long enough in he and we also all realized that he's deceptively old and so everyone was just like yeah to changes elder statesman now. Yeah I mean yeah. Basically. Care One. We he somehow graduated to that stat. Like yeah. He also like he has graduated to having Justice League VIZSLA and his record, he has like old like Rafferty go to the league that the rule the world record was that Justice League I can't remember was that cool and dry. How am I it? Sounds more characteristic where we yeah. But anyway, it doesn't matter like I do. Like the the point is that I'd I'd love to change deeply however this was a lopsided match-up. However however. Because fat boy got songs. We Cross got songs come on a few days before this versus battle happen when it was announced immediately went to ringer slack and I said the people who organized this are masochists right. To changes great but to chains is not to change is a lanky. Okay. Pal. Riding. You like I understand at like as a person as a person who had the Rick Ross grunt as his text message tone for. Two years. I'm saying that you need to chill out what I'm saying no, but I'm I'm asking I'm asking, did you study the concept of inertia in high school because that's that's crosses physical advantage against two chains is. Right right but all that aside. You know and it's making me not WanNa take your point because you 'cause you be in like this about it but. To as best moments are on other people's songs like or they are like obscure mix tape because. I mean like I am immediately thinking of his versus fighting and the club by in this a song from I twenty like you don't even remember who that is like. The. The fact that there are few songs that Tuesday's really carries on his own and also like if I can. Keep it a stack fifty with you. The big radio hits are not really my favorite to that way to put it to, and especially because the big radio hits chains are kind of all over the place and so they're hard to build a coherent like theory of the case of two genes.

The Yearning for the Unexplained
"Colin dickey joins us now from Brooklyn his new book is called the unidentified mythical monsters, alien encounters, and our obsession with the unexplained Collin. Thanks for being here. Thanks so much for having me on I want to start by talking about another book when it came out pretty much a hundred years ago with a fairly lurid title. What was the book of the damned? Oh the book of the damned, so Charles Fort's as the author of the book damned, and he was a, he was a writer who I think he was. He was on a path to be a kind of I. Guess what you would call a crank writer somebody who had the sort of wild elaborate theory about how human civilization was controlled by radio, being sent from Venus or something like that he unsurprisingly didn't get very far with that particular book and it's it's. It's been lost. It was never published a it got rejected and immediate he he would spend his days down at the new. York Public Library he lived in Manhattan, he would walk. The New York Public Library, and he would just spend his morning reading various newspaper, and scientific, Journal articles about various strange planed things that that he came across everything from ball, lightning, two frogs and fish, falling from the sky, blood rains, just various bizarre things that nobody really could understand. Understand, or how good kind of idea what what was going on here? And he just started collecting those, and what came the book of the damned was this oddball collection of these unexplained phenomenon, and rather than advocates, some kind of theory, what makes the book of the damned so great and strangest? He just kind of puts it all out there and says we don't really have explanations for a lot of these things you know, hence the idea of you know the. The the book of the Damn these for fourth. These are damned facts. These are damned stories because they're. They're excluded from from science and religion was like the early x-files. Yeah, exactly, it's except without going so far as to even say that you know. Aliens are behind it. It's sort of I mean in his later books for it would kind of try in kind of offer a thesis, but those are usually kind of its weakest moments when he's at his best. When. He sort of just kind of throwing out these ideas without necessarily. Of having to answer them, just kind of putting them out there on the table for the rest of us to kind of marvel at our physical copies of this book still around Oh Yeah Oh. Yeah, it's still in print. That's actually in public domain, so they're they're you know you can get lots of different editions of it? I got this this Great Hopi Dover Thrift edition of all four of his books, which is like twelve hundred pages in total and the massive unwieldy thing that kind of falls me from apartment to apartment. All right well, we'll talk about your book now. which will explain why a? Book of the damned might figure into things. Let's start with your subtitle mythical monsters, alien encounters and our obsession with the unexplained. Give us a sense of what territory your book covers. You know enlarge party grew out of the two thousand sixteen election grew out of a lot of the sense of misinformation conspiracy theories, and all these things that were were floating around, and a lot of which was being attributed to social media which I. Think is fair and accurate, but I also. Wanted to dig a little deeper into the genealogy of where some of these beliefs come from and. What I found again and again is you know? Just simply telling somebody, the factual truth about an a given incident or conspiracy theories is usually rarely enough because these beliefs are operating somewhere on a kind of more primal level. I really wanted to understand how we became a culture. That is kind of yearning for the unbelievable. That is yearning for something that is beyond the reach of science and religion, and so ended up going back to crypt the bigfoot lock ness monster chew copper things like that as well as the lost continent of Atlantis, and Maria and an aliens in and UFO's sort of these these three threads that really define the modern particularly in America kind of the twentieth century America's attempt to find something, magical and mysterious. Scientific Rationale Yeah I was GONNA. Ask about who the we is. I'm curious are Americans. Especially Gullible do we have a particular history with conspiracy theory and this mass, hysteria or mythology I'm not sure it's goal ability, and first of all I mean I think that in some sense, there is an almost conscious decision to believe the unbelievable that that runs through a lot of this. It's not entirely exclusive to Americans. I mean certainly loch ness monster is a you know a denizen of of Scott, London, and the UK certainly loves Nessie, but I do think it is a by-in-large, a function of a kind of modern industrial age culture that has kind of tap out the world prior to. I Dunno, the you know seventeenth eighteenth century there were still literal monsters. There were still things that were unexplained. There were still hearts of the globe that that Western nations hadn't experienced a reached or whatever, and so you could still believe that there were strange things out there.

You're allowed to be tentative about what's going on, but we all are at this point right, but what's constructive about saying I, don't really WANNA play, but I'll do it. What type of message does that? Send to your teammates to your fans, but he's. Is he not concerned about safety? Isn't that what he's going for? Isn't that what he's talking about? I, don't know. What he said Yeah isn't everyone concerned about safety like him, saying that just kind of like a bad look I feel like. How do you think his teammates? But what should've stream that and what might crop set? Kendrick Perkins Point is if you feel strongly about it, then do it. Avery Bradley. Do what Dover's protons is doing. Do whatever reasons don't you think a lot of these guys are going to try it out? See how it goes, and if it's not going well, they're going to drop out. Dallas - Army Identifies Remains Found As Fort Hood Soldier Vanessa Guillen, Attorney Says
"Remains discovered last week about 20 miles from Fort Hood in Texas, have now been identified as that of Vanessa G. N, a 20 year old soldier who disappeared from the base over two months ago. So says Natalie Kwame, an attorney for the soldier's family couldn't confirm her whether it was her with the dental because her Vanessa's face was bashed in so bad leaders, no teeth for them to identify. So that's why they had to send her body to Dover Air Force Base to get examined that fashion and confirmed that it was for that's why I took a lot longer than they expected. Discovery of the body triggered a manhunt that ended with the suspect killing himself. His officers closed in. Aaron Robinson was a fellow soldier also stationed at Fort Hood G and disappeared after telling her family that she was being sexually harassed, and relatives complained that the army's search for her Lacked any sense of urgency before activists took interest
Song of the Summer 2020: Which Hit is the Early Favorite?
"So Keith yes. The Fourth of July holiday is like right around the corner here in the US and Many people getting ready for some. Socially distance gatherings and picnics and barbecues and Ho- downs and all that fun Shannon. Shenanigans Yeah all responsibly quarantine of course We thought it'd be good to to kind of devote this episode instead of the weekly charts to topic near and dear to my heart. Song in the summer. It is near and dear to your heart. I love talking about song in the summer. I've written lot about it over the years I. WE'RE GONNA. Talk about. Your world how billboard ranks the top songs of the summer. In terms of our charts department, and then we'll dive into the rundown of V number one song in the summer for each year from two thousand nine through twenty, nineteen. And then we'll discuss some predictions for what could be the top song of this summer of two twenty, twenty Jason loves talking about songs of the summer, but somehow I've yet to convince him to join the Movement for other seasonal lists and rankings such as the top winter jams. Or the most awesome autumnal ditties I just think why Jason. You don't like anything but songs of the summer why? I do like song of the fall. That's my number two just because I kind of like you know last year you had a song like the weekends. Heartless commander November, and it's just like a good fall song like it's. It's a little chilly It's a little bit more introverted but the thing about the song of the summer is that it's it's iconic. What we mean when we talk about song in the summer. A song that you associate with a specific time in your life, a song that is ripe for partying and gatherings Of course during summers, where such things are allowed and you know but anyway I. Love It. Let's get into it. Let's on this summer I some finer points on. Al Billboard actually compiles its annual song. The Chart the charts which you can actually find on billboard right now is a running tally that tracks the most popular songs based on cumulative performance on the weekly billboard, hot, one hundred chart, and that's from memorial. Day through Labor Day here in the United States and this year those charts encompass the charts dated June sixth through September fifth, and at the end of the. The season, the top song of the summer, basically is the top song in terms of overall performance on the weekly, hot one hundred during that span of time, and will reveal that shortly after Labor Day, right now to babies, rockstar featuring roddy rich is number one on the twenty twenty song of the summer chart while in the mix in the top ten or songs like Megan, these million savage between beyond say and the weekends blinding lights. Yes, so we'll get to this year, and and how this is a more competitive year than than some years past including last year. But now that we know how we would determine the song of the summer for the year. Let's go back in time Keith. And revisit what the number one song! The summer was for each year from two thousand nine through twenty nineteen. I WANNA. Point out that we actually have a song of the summer determined for every year. The hot one hundred has existed all the way back to nineteen fifty eight, so if you want to check out every number one. For, each summer, every song of the summer back from Nineteen fifty eight to twenty, nine, hundred nine. You can do that on Dover Dot Com. Just do a Google search for summer songs, nineteen, thousand, nine, hundred nineteen. It'll pop right up. You'll be good to go tested at actually works. That's. It's better than saying. GO TO BILL DOT COM slash chart dash beat slash one five dash two three. You know it easier. It's easier to do it this way. Well I up. We've got two thousand nine song of the summer. It's the black-eyed peas I. got a feeling. Let's take a listen to a little bit of it now. That tonight it's GonNa, be. Good I. In. The summer of two thousand nine belonged to the PS. They actually have the numbers, one and two biggest songs of the summer that year as boom boom POW was number two. The two tracks were so huge in two thousand nine that I got a feeling spent fourteen weeks at number one on the hot one hundred and actually replaced boom boom POW at number one, which itself had spent twelve straight weeks atop the list so. So from the April Eighteenth, two thousand nineteen chart through October, tenth two, thousand, nineteen, hot, one hundred chart, the PS were number one every single week with either boom boom, POW, or I got a feeling which is pretty insane.

"Roof. How are you? I'm very well. How are you good? I went to the river cafe. I don't know fifteen twenty years ago and it took quite a while to there on the tube from downtown London but it was a marvellous location and a marvelous dinner. But you started really as a a sandwich place. I guess a commissary in your introduction to your new Book Thirty Years River Cafe. The quote is the River Cafe and his clientele are seriously diminishing the tone of area. What do you want to just explain what that meant? When we started the river cafe really it was a site of what used to be An oil refinery in London on the river with votes outside and at my husband who's architect was we were lived in Paris for five years when he was doing the Pompidou Centre. When we came back to London. We wanted to find a place that could be a community so that he could set up his architectural practice again. In place through there was a mix so it was a outside space as I said. We were on the river. They converted these warehouses into rather beautiful studios and offices are picture frames model makers dress designers and always. We always wanted to have a place where people could eat and I was working as a graphic designer. And Ed Always Cook but when the applications came in we thought you know what why are worse than not having a restaurant would be not to have a very good one and I just said I think I'll do it and I'll do with rose gray. Who's an old friend and had also come back from New York? I'm wanting to do something. So the two of US came and looked at the the site and it was tiny. It was enough. Maybe a bar tiny little kitchen and six tables. But the real restriction was that we're only allowed to be open for lunchtime because the neighbors who actually had oil warehouses here up in arms about the idea of a small restaurant so the planners that said we could be open Monday to Friday. We could only be open for lunch and only open to the people who worked and these warehouses. So that's where the sandwich bar. That's where the inexpensive very tiny little place started. But I think Rosen. I always had the ambition to be an Italian restaurant to be a proper restaurant. We just had to do it gradually. Here's a question. Sometimes you just leave something allowed like in your book very often. You don't add a lot of strong. Flavors is something that has a wonderful flavor to begin with you have a Dover Sole Rescue Capers in Marjoram Dover sole is often serve which brown butter and butter something very simple olive oil but capers in March. Very strong flavors is that how do you know as a cook when you? WanNa add strong flavors to something and other times? You don't is that something just whimsical. Or I think it depends. Well first of all depends on your mood. Sometimes I come into the river cafe because you know we changed the menu twice a day and if I have Dover sell on the menu I bite think well what am I going to put with the Dover so I might just put lentils with it today and therefore might like something interesting on the top like capers. I think as a cook the first thing I think about when I write the menu is what what do I feel like eating today. What would I want to eat? And that's one of the joys of working in the river cafe or I think I hope coming here so I think as you know the same thing we say. If you're cooking at home what what do you feel like eating and also not go shopping with a recipe in your head but go to the market. Go to the supermarket go to shop. See what's there and then you know the home and cook you know. A lot of chefs. Do a lot of different things. Jose entrees has twenty three restaurants Jeremiah Tower obviously you know moved around started things enclosed things. You've been doing this thirty years or so. Alice waters has been doing her GIG for forty years. Do you have a feeling about people like yourself who stick with it who start something and just keep getting better at it forces people who move around. Did you think one is better than the other widely? You love for thirty years doing this one thing. It obviously still excites you. By the way you're you're talking about your restaurant that's a good question. I think that it depends for me. It's about ambition and control. You know so I really. I've been asked to other restaurants. I've looked at other sites. We came very close to doing another restaurant. A couple of years ago and Mayfair and I'm always thinking about how to grow how to how to be better and sometimes I think that for me. It's about being better where we are. It's about everyday come in with a set of problems or or thinking about what to cook how to make the restaurant. Beautiful and how to make the waiters more knowledgeable in how to work with the chefs. Who want to learn more about ingredients in how to make our pastry kitchen know. There's so many so many things to do in the restaurant here that would it be possible to do it and have more. Some people really can do it for me. It would be really just so important to know that I if I did another restaurant that it would be as good as this one and this one. Wouldn't you know get less good because I was distracted by another one so I never thought of it as sticking with it because for me I have the best job in the world and I come in and I work with brilliant people and it's exciting

Walking the South Downs Way in England
"Welcome amateur traveler. I'm your host Chris Christensen. Let's talk about the south downs way. I'd like to welcome to the show. Aaron Miller from the Armchair Explorer podcast at Armchair Dash Explorer Dot Com. Who's come to talk to us about hiking? The south downs way in England Aaron. Welcome to the show. Thank you so much Chris. Pleasure to be here well Erin. Why are we talking about the south downs way? And can you put it on a map? I first of all I come from this area so I'm passionate about it. The South downs way is I think. One of the most beautiful but lesser-known hikes in England in the south of England. It's a hundred mile pot that stretches from east which is south of London right on the coast and it goes a hundred miles west to winchester and it's a beautiful route because it follows the spine of the south downs. The entire way on the south downs being a series of hills mountains hills. We're talking the south. Downs is beautiful gentle rolling hills that stretch of this way and into central English landscape. When you picture that quintessential Englishness that gentle rolling hills in arable farmland and old pubs little tiny villages and sheep and cows. Because you're on the spine of these down. This incredible view to one side to the south of you is the English Channel Sparkling Blue Sea in and then the other side is this wheeled. Which is this valley. That seems to stretch on forever. And IT'S COOKIE CUTTER. English field far as the I could say. And what makes this really special is? It's the national trail for south downs. National Park which is England's National Park. I think turns ten this year. So it's really a working landscape for like for your listeners. That come from the states or other places. I love the national parks in the states. I'm a huge fan right about them. A lot and most of them are obviously protecting. He's wild spaces. But the town's national park is a little different is actually a UNESCO biosphere reserve which is an award. That's not been given out to that many places and it's to do with the relationship between a land and its people and the sustainable relationship harmonious assistance between the ecosystem and the people that live there and have lived there and work that land for centuries thousands of years in fact. So what you get. Is this real sense of living landscape. It's not a national park which is devoid of people cut off from civilization It's a national park where people have existed for thousands of years the south downs way. In fact it's been walked for at least eight thousand years. Have records of that so when you in this room you really? Following in the footsteps of people that have worked for thousands of years. There's age hill forts. There's Bronze Age burial mounds. There's Roman history so you get a real sense of that as you will through an feel like that history and culture can imbue a place with debt when you're there you get the sense of this living landscape that is very typical of England's and very friendly in welcoming you're passing through these little villages and it's a little off the tortoiseshell because I don't think many international tourists do so when you coming off the trail to stay in these tubs or these different places overnight. You really stay in local One a drop down to this pub called the five bells and the local cricket teams in having their Green Tea and Gossiping About Pu. Bakes the best scones and all that sort of stuff. So it's really you're eavesdropping on this. Little World of the south of England and I think a lot of people when they think giving they think of the south of England to landscape inspired love artists over the years for everyone from Virginia Woolf in the blooms regroup to painters and musicians. So you really feel like you're walking through a landscape that has a lot of depth battle texture to it and there's a lot of great beer too so that was helps o'clock and one thing to know is when you talk about this being a national park in UK the UK Veasley being a smaller country than the US. Where I live doesn't have as many national parks. That only has fifteen so when you say. It's a national park. It's one of just over a dozen national parks in both England. Scotland and Wales altogether. So obviously fifteen are the fifteen best sites that were worthy of being named National Park. So where are we starting? So there's two options I started in Eastbourne which is on the south coast and made my way west from there and I did that for a special reason because when you do it that way there's a really great finish to the hike which I'll I'll keep his as a surprise for example a Lotta people choose to do it the other way round. It's the same elevation same difficulty. I think a lot of people choose to do it the other way round because when you begin winchester you slowly make your way closer and closer to the finish. This really dramatic finish walking towards east born in this place called the seven sisters. Which are these beautiful chalky cliffs that the White Cliffs of Dover the famous cliffs on the South Coast and these be bit as beautiful? I did it the other way and I also did it in a very fun way. I did it as a one hundred mile. Pub CRAWL

It's kind of hard to tell because she makes in batches so it's really kind of hard to To narrow it down by mask but she does pretty good. It's a it's a pretty. We'll Suarez have been kind of guy that people didn't want to run this thing anymore. Been ruffling feathers each week. Get solid top ten out of this one here though. I think he might science some people for at least a week. And how about Brand Pool? That's really cool to see him. Showcasing his abilities these restrictor plate tracks when he has an equal car or virtual card to those around him. Definitely definitely William Byron. I mean six place you might as we thirtieth for this guy. Yeah but at a unpredictable. Place like Talladega. I think he's pretty happy with six. Just continues to show that the cream rises to the top Even with weird circumstances like these races he's still finds a way for a solid finish their in six so i. I think you'll take landon. Castles been definitely decorating his rig with all kinds of sponsorship lately. Yeah he has and he's been dabbling in twenty four hours Nurburgring Nurburgring races on. Ira Sing and he's been he's been getting into it so I think he's been using some virtual racing school Setups and advice to get a little bit better at this stuff. And it's definitely showing. He's he's running pretty fast everywhere he goes. Garrett Smith Louis number four another guy who just kinda suffers from having really poor equipment and the actual real world has been showcasing what he does In the virtual world with equal settings with everybody else. So this been a really good eye opening experience for Garrett Smith Lee as well I think Ryan priests has been doing pretty well too. Yeah he's been pretty solid aside from the weird Incident with the Benedetto last week. He's been pretty strong so it's not surprising to see him up there and he was in the mix. They're pushing around for the win. Definitely coral joy Is One spot short of the win photofinish by the way so close? Yeah well it's Talladega lab. It is but man that was just wild definitely. Let's head to victory now virtual style. Alex Bowman takes the checkered flag in his first his first I racing deal there right so as I I- racing win in the I mean it says I I really went over all or just in the series that I don't know but he sure made it sound that way okay. Well yeah so I think because a couple of weeks ago he was saying that. This virtual Racing Bang wasn't for him and now he wins a race so he still is pretty funny. Yeah we we've got him on in the next segment Lots of stuff coming from Alex Bowman. So don't worry about that but yeah one of the things he said is He's he's surprised He's probably not gonNA continue this once. They go back real racing and which is weird. Because wasn't he down in the Hendrick? Motorsports dungeon doing all kinds of virtual stuff. He adds a little different though It's not quite the racing set-up down there the manufacturers Pacific simulators are a little different but it is funny that he's trying to say he's not some racer when that's all he was doing there for a couple of years and it's pretty comical. Maybe he's just sick of it. Possibly I mean I would Because I'm sure they had him running thing who knows how many hours they had him on that thing until his eyes wouldn't work anymore. Probably right kind of like Apollo thirteen trying to make that that air saying out of duct tape and and stuff who knows that could have contributed to how he won this race. Though was the fact that you put in so many hours Szemberg. Maybe he's The tweeted right afterwards. I'm legitimately confused how this happened. Yeah and so I don't know I think I won my truck series race at Talladega before we did last week's show. Maybe not but if I didn't I two wins this week. When it truck series at Talladega won the xfinity cars at Talladega and both of them were by a combined. Total of point zero three four seconds. Wow I led one lap in each race which was the last lap but it was pretty wild and are you trying to be like Alex Bowman because during his telecom his dog was going nuts. Yeah I don't know what's going on out there. The dogs get a little weird when people just copying the the big time NASCAR drivers. Hey it's paying off to you know. Hey So jeff Gordon was in this race. There were two twenty four cars on the track. I got a text from my mom. Why are there twenty fours on track? Jeff Gordon was in the race. He went for a wild airborne. Ride had to use one of his resets later got wrecked by chase Elliott and bringing out the caution but I I love the first one. He was stuck in the catch fence. Yeah so that really kind of ruined things for him. I think he went a lap down during all that or maybe two apps down because of having to get back to the pit lane for his reset. I'm just trying to visual that in real life. How would you get a car down from there? Well that's the Nice thing you can just hit the hit the button and it sends you to pit road but you still have to wait for towing time as if they really toil around. But GOTCHA. Yeah so that's A. That's not what I don't think Jeff Gordon was hoping for that in his return but it was cool to see how excited and genuinely passionate. He sounded during the broadcast of it. He seemed like he was actually having a pretty good time. Very focused to yeah. He was he was. It was just cool to see him out there even if it wasn't a good finish Any dip in the catch fence and wrecked again later. Still get to see him. Jimmy Johnson went for a wild ride off those of Brad. Kozlowski there in the Infield Clint Boyer blew up again. Yeah he's just. How do you blow up virtual engine? Well the thing is he was just talking about it to think either. On the telecast or on a stream or something he was talking about having to watch. Your gauges enables up immediately. So what the heck you just tell people to watch your gauges and I don't know how how he did that but it was funny del. Genius Twitch stream going and he was like well this Clinton warriors had a really hard time in this thing. And but here's leading. He blew. It is of course a huge wreck with three laps ago included Joey Logano Ryan. Blaney went for a wild ride. Joey Ace Eric Jones and others. Wow Wow wow indeed enjoy gates had a pretty good round going on this thing in the Bobby Allison tributes came. He had run. So that's a real bummer. For him as well as other guys as well and Denny Hamlin finished last not because of a ability or any other issues but because his daughter turned off his monitors. Yeah well I guess. She turned out the center. One he still have the two side ones but it didn't really help. You can't see what's going on well and it turned out. I guess. He got penalized on pit road for going backwards or something lead to the need to find a way to get penalized on pit road right. Of course yeah any other place. So we've had cats dogs kids all kinds of issues with this yeah and It was funny footage of this one happening which was great definitely. Yeah it's like they record everything so we got some breaking news. We gotTA STOP. What we're doing here. We've got some breaking news and it's the news that everybody in Nascar fandom has been waiting for. I guess they're getting back to actual racing on the race track. And Toby's got more on that. Yeah so there's been reports out there from Matt Weaver Autoweek and a few other places. And I've actually received some information from an undisclosed source as well About possible schedules That should be announced. Pretty quickly And it's a pretty packed schedule. So for May nineteenth to May twenty seventh. You're going to have one two three four five six seven races total between four different series the cup series expanding series truck series and Arca series. If this ends up being correct you'd have the extended series getting things kicked back off on May nineteenth at Darlington. Well wait a minute. Don't we have May Seventeenth well. That's what we were talking about before but this is kind of the note. I have here so I don't know I don't see no right there on top. It says will return to racing Sunday. May Seventeenth Darlington. Oh Yeah there. It is okay. So Sunday may seventeenth. So then you'd have one two three five six seven eight races between the seventeenth twenty seven so eight races and ten days. Starting With Cup Darlington. Xfinity at Darlington. A Cockpit Darlington again on the twentieth. And you'd go to Arca at Charlotte on the Twenty Third Cup at Charlotte on the twenty four th Xfinity at Charlotte on the twenty fifth trucks at Charlotte on the twenty six and then another cup series race at Charlotte which would be six hundred on the twenty seven. So why do we have to Darlington? Yes a two at Darlington in the other interesting note here is this is anticipated to be both Oval Races at Charlotte as well When you're usually only having six hundred and the Robo now Darlington Charlotte. We'll be adding an extra race this season at the expense of another race. Somewhere else you start looking at the schedule and you think that you'd probably lose walk. Ins Lynn with it being in New York. There've been hit really hard by this thing And probably going to be out of makes as well not good. I like road courses. I know so the other rumor. That's been kind of throwing people throwing around is that they'd be replacing. Something's road course races later in the season with more rove races at Charlotte But we'll see I'm not sure it's all kind of a moving target as we go But this is the latest we have. Of course things will probably announce after we record this so this looks pretty his odds. Oh Yeah to get the latest on this. They'll go to the foul out. Dot Com or Toby Christie dot com. We'll probably have more upstate stuff by the time. You're listening to this but Yeah this this does look pretty solid from from the person who disclosed this to me to official industry note to the teams from from NASCAR. So it looks pretty official. Yeah this is I mean. This is If you're a racing fan yeah. The erasing has been fun and good and all but you kind of want to see him back at the race track and it. It looks like Based on the paragraph below that they are going to do this responsibly. As well you know they're eager to see cars and trucks back on the track. We also recognize substantial responsibility. That comes with returning to competition. Nascar will return in an environment that will ensure the safety.
"dover" Discussed on Cork Talk
"Joe and I met with the NC guys welcome to corporate talk and this episode of talk with sit down with Elizabeth Andover over vineyards in Concord North Carolina. This episode was our first one recorded remotely due to social distancing Elizabeth and as a modern millennial who decided she wanNa Planet Vineyard on her family's farmland. She realized soon after that she would need something else to offset the cost of injured and so the Pharma Dover Vineyards was born offering fresh seasonal vegetables that get the same low intervention treatment as her grapes. She talks about how model of growing making and selling line is a little different than others in the industry and how she's making the most out of it. The Wind Meltzer back this time they talked to us about the many nuances of making red wine. So sit back for a glass and listen search today. We're recording a socially distant episode of Cork Talk Today With Elizabeth and Dover of Dover Vineyards in Concord North Carolina Elizabeth unwelcomed. The court COP. Thank you so Elizabeth. And why don't you go ahead and and Introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about you sure my name is Elizabeth Dover and I am the owner of Dover Vineyards in Concord I have worked in multiple places across the state and in Australia and New Zealand. Dover vineyards is a six Acre produce farm and a seven Acre Vineyard. We do not have a tasting room per se but we have several events throughout the year in which we invite the public to come. Try Our one house. That sounds awesome. I mean I know we've been there for some of those public events in. It's definitely something. It's it really is a unique experience because you're kind of out there in the vines just like kind of tasting the wine. It's really kind of fun. Yeah good to hear so. I didn't realize you had six acres of you know non-grape products and I know what are some of those that you grow share. We grow lettuce and Kale with Chard skin. Butternut squash okra onions. We're putting onions in the ground tomorrow. Tons and tons of onions and blueberries is another big crop and strawberries. Equal quite thirsty there so L. YEAR. It leads to more stable income. I believe is worth of our portfolio. Right absolutely yes mart very smart. So let's talk a little bit about the vineyard then. So what varieties do you have planted? And maybe go into depth with some of those varieties as well because at least one of them is not commonly known. Don't think in the in the State Church are well what you probably talking about Velarde Block. Yes that is the my favorite grape to grow. It is so easy requires very little spraying and is Pierce's disease resistant. We rarely see any powdery or downy mildew on it so it essentially takes care of itself we also Grosz Amerson and a little bit of Cabernet Franken Petite Virga. Those are just starting to produce this year fingers crossed the we planted them a three and four years ago. So no production off those two yet. the cabinet from and the deeper dough both seemed to grow fairly well On. We have some low spot in which they don't grow. Well we have the strip down the middle of the vineyard that all the water drains there and so we just sorta stopped planting vines. There does it. Looks kind of strange but It just was pointless. I keep replanting those when they just die year after year. Groups don't really like to be their feet wet has to say so so you have the the farm and you have the vineyards so which came first the produce or the grapes. So we planted the grapes in two thousand nine and that was originally. The plan was to start a vineyard but in order to have some cash flow during the first three or four years. We planted produce. It also allows us to have a better Retention of employees. Because there's always something going on so we're not hiring a lot of seasonal help so we're able to maintain employment throughout the year. That's that's our goal is to not have to hire and train our staff every year but to be able to employ them throughout the year so we planted The great in April of two thousand nine and then we started the farm or the produce aspect of it in September of two thousand nine. Let's pretty cool. I mean a brings up something that you don't really think about is that you do need help throughout the year when you have both types of crops whereas with grapes it's kind of you know steady for a certain amount and then kind of not much happens over the winter and then all of a sudden the growing season begins so. Yep Yep and it. It's hard to find at least it. We're near a metropolitan area so we're not exactly rural we don't have the same labor sources that some of the other vineyards would have In the same sort of Road same cycle of life of farm that a lot of rural areas are used to having people in our area are they would expect to be employed year round. They would be you know. It wouldn't make sense for them to work for us for a few months and the not though we try and keep that. That's one of our main focuses is being able to employ people year round since very smart plan to try to keep those books. Because you pointed out the training and the retraining. You know they're they're gonNA forget so it saves Tom. I'm sure so back in two thousand nine. What made you choose your location to plant your vineyard. It is my great grandmother's farm so I didn't really have much of a choice I could do there or not at all. It's essentially so I inherited the land from my great grandmother. Used to be a dairy and I think we got really really lucky with the site selection. It is north facing which whenever you are as far south as we are. It's fairly important. A lot of people think south facing is important to ripen their crop. But we don't have that problem in Concord. We have plenty of heat. We have plenty of warm days. Are we rarely have trouble getting rightness in our product so We want actually slow it down a little bit. So we're not picking in the middle of August We'd rather you know. Slow down our crop a little bit and picking the first week of September if we can so yeah and then also Is on an ancient volcanic. Our location of ancient volcanic activity is not an actual volcano. But it has some unique soil properties. If you look at a geographical map of North Carolina whereas all the different types of soil and stone you can pick out concord because it's a little dot in the middle of whatever other type of soil and stone we have around but it's very distinct and we have a lot of iron in our soil and I don't know how that affects the growing of grapes and the flavor of the wine. I just know that it is a a Mike. The other places that I've worked across the state really interesting. I would never have thought about ancient volcanic activity kind of ending up in our neck of the woods but prehistory being what it is at some point I think in them prehistory they were saying this mountain chain so let's talk a little bit about the wines that are made from the grape. Say he grow so you do. I know you've got dry wines. You've got an and you have a couple of sweeter wines and then there's some big winds and things so let's talk a little bit about about the variety that you have there. Sure okay so right now. We have two large blocks one is barrel fermented the other one is still fermented depending on how you treat Velarde Block. It can produce different sorts of wine. It's a very versatile. Great one of my favorite things to do is barrel ferment. Anything really really is just a nerdy thing that I enjoy doing. I love starring. The barrels are comparing Stainless versus barrel fermented our barrel fermented Blur Block does not go through mallow it's rather European when it comes to chardonnays not like a California Chardonnay but we use the Chardonnay yeast and techniques whenever we make the barrel fermented velarde block a little bit round or not as aesthetic. Whenever we make that one we always let it hang a little bit longer to produce some more tropical note which goes well with the Vanilla notes that you get when every barrel ferment. Something In American of course so that's one of that's one wine and the stainless is more like a peanut gratiot or an Alberino with its acidity. And it's got some hints of like Green Apple and lemon A little bit of honey but very Chris. They're both very very popular We're finishing up the twenty sixteen vintage of the barrel fermented and we are still on the twenty seventeen vintage of the twenty of the stainless of the stainless variety This past year we harvested some great at thirty seven bricks. Which makes me really happy and Phil Super Brown of Lord At thirty seven and we made a dessert wine out of that. That'll be released a sometime within the next year. But that was a really cool process Can Imagine we actually heard about that. They were talking to some other winemakers and they're like Elizabeth an got some really high bricks of alarm. Okay on we're getting out because it's a great great. It's wonderful Thirty-seven tremendous so. That's like that's that's way up there. Yeah Yeah we went and we crimped the the Rakia or the radio. The plural of Ricky is or whatever And so sort of dried him on the vine we didn't pick them and lamb on mats and then run fans across over like some people. Do we just left them in the field and crushed the little vascular system so the grapes and they bought your ties and it was. It was a thing of beauty. I don't know if you'll be able to do it again. But you know it's one of those things if we're not going to be heavily sprang then we can really trial would do this and we had. We had a huge crop of of just white white grapes this year. So or this past year. Sorry this past year. Twenty nineteen was a great year for most people. But especially Bro so That's something to look forward to Now in terms of red right now we have our cabernet franc and that's made with a little bit of champagne from our vineyard and we had a major crop loss and I got some great from Rhode Island that I was working there at the time and their Cabernet Franck. That year was absolutely beautiful. So we combined my Shammar Sun with their carbonate rock in a ratio which it is legal to call Cabernet franc and made a very delectable read. It's got some great acidity to it ends on. Decent Tannin's is not super Tanit but you can definitely taste on And so it aging very well I'm really proud that the majority of our wines are angel. The white of course I wouldn't really age but The the two that we had before this which we sold out love the twenty twelve percent of the twenty thirteen champion. A I would have no trouble. Telering does for like four more years you know. They were for North Carolina wine. That's that's something to be proud of so We have to blends two zero one. Zero is the squirrel that lives at our farm stand and he eats all of our produce. If we don't want very carefully He one year eight all of our winter squash harvest. We had them in little containers with lids on them and they were sitting beside the farm stand and he goes out and he lifts up all the lids in hops in.
Seedlings Are Arriving Early - What Do I Do With Them?
"SEEDS DOT COM cultivating successful growers for generations and he says various bulbs and bare root plants are beginning to arrive in the mail. But it's too early to plant. Should I keep them in the fridge? Until MID-MAY SHOULD I go ahead and pop them up right now to transplant later or can I go ahead and put them in the ground? Well maybe all of the above. Now let's go with the refrigerator. I would be very cautious a at this time of year with the natural soil warming. I would go to the warmest part inside your refrigerator unless you say hopefully without having to fuss about it you'd find out that there's an area of forty degrees in your frigerator. That's where put these things. However being essentially we all had in fact it is the middle of March. You could start putting them up. Get him them. Growing you'd have Mar- April may have two months to get them ahead of the game So you can go with that and then I. I'm sorry that it was the third part. Can you possibly just go ahead and put them on the growled? Well some yes now for example if you have received peonies or you've received Well I'M GONNA go the other way. If you have received peonies they could be planted right. Now they're perfectly hardy. If you have received hoste you can plant them right now. Now I would still put some mulch over the top just for let's say to provide some care In case now the other thing that Last week over at the Dover New Philadelphia Area I was given three beautiful tubers of caladiums. I planted them year after year. And where mine where where his came from Florida and I share in that now. They were big boats. I put them in the spring and they're much smaller than the fall so I don't even save more anymore sometimes but at the same time. I have indeed part of those up in a six inch pot. I put good soil. Good potting soil in. I soak the daylights out under get the soil down in around the wolves or tubers etc and then I won't water them until that soil is drying pretty good For pretty significantly I should say now The drying you don't want to over water that they they will stand some water when they're growing but right now I don't want a Rut that tuber so I did soak the daylights out of them where I will water other things than in a week. Which will be tomorrow I have I will not water them. The the soil was still moist. When I touch it with my top on my knuckles I'm going to let them go for another week. I want to keep them in the house period because they can't they just don't like anything below sixty degrees. They're they're They're like some of my friends. They travel south in the wintertime. And they they won't come back up until it is sixty degrees. Well they're they're going to be there and other plants of that same nature if if for example you got some Shasta daisies or whatever it might be. You could again. Pot does up start them indoors. Now the the thing that will happen though you'll have them so far ahead you probably won't dare put them out on until around the middle of May Depends what are happens. Where season does but you You don't want to get things going too far and put them out on less. You have then hardened them off. I had a four by four box if you will with a translucent top that I used to use under these circumstances where I'd get things started indoors. I would put them out in this box. You could close the top or you could open it for air and temperature control and so on And I could get a plant two three four weeks ahead. One of my friends always always always had tomatoes growing by now he had highlight me. Had A
Sowalong: Growing Ferns from Spores
"I'll be covering the so along in various ways in the coming weeks but this first episode is answering demand that many of you have heard which is for information on propagating funds and this isn't so much of so long as a spore along because as we'll be finding out from an expert. Peter Blake growing new baby. Funds isn't quite the same as sowing seeds of other plants. If you're wondering why on earth you'd ever bother with growing houseplants from C. Because hey it's easy enough to walk into your nearest Garden Centre or Plant. Btk and pick up full-size plants Let me just explain I? It's cheap and if you're the kind of person who doesn't have a lot of extra income to splash out on buying plots then you can pick up a range of house. Plants CPAC is for a few pounds or dollars or whatever your local currency may be and you can get from that packet a large number of plants which then you could sell give to friends and family or just keep to turn your home into a tangle jungle so it's a cheap way of getting lots of lovely plants it also really gives you fantastic insight into how those plots grow plus rather than buying a plant in a nursery. That's been called within an inch of its life in the APP sleet computer controlled perfect environment. You'll be bringing up a plant in your own home which will be adapted to your conditions. That said there are some drawbacks. It does take up a fair bit of room. You may need a few bits of equipment and you'll need a specially formulated potting. Mix Feed your seeds to go into. We'll be looking at there's aspects of the so long in upcoming episodes but as I say to get in touch. Tell me how your plants growing on the you've sewn in previous oh lungs and what else. You'd like to know because there's still plenty of time to contribute. I spoke to Peter Blake who has many of experience with Ferns to find out how it's done. Here's Peter to introduce himself pharmafirm enthusiast. Who's been growing fans for about fifteen years now? Both hardy ferns in the And tender tropical ferns in glasshouses. I've been in the British territory Logical Society. Which is the basically the fern society for the UK For that length of time and I've had a great deal of help and support through then And also have had a lot of sports from them because they operate a spaw exchange system at the beginning of each year. I guess this is kind of Botany Wanna one. But why are we propagating funds from spores and not from seeds? Can you just explain? Explain that to us. Because not everyone's going to know the the reproductive processes of the Fund particularly well pearn saw unusual and they'll basically quite primitive plants along with a number of other spore producing plants like mosses but they all vascular plants so they're a bit more advanced to the mosses but what they do is they produce a spool which is very small and light and can travel a long way. The Fun self that we're used to seeing in the Gulf and or an apart- he's actually a plan that has no gender. It's not the male no female and dispositive producers Equally male and female. But those little spores if they learned in the right place will cause a second plant to grow which scientifically is called a domestic fights or a pro selous and that little plant which most of people have not ever recognized because they're so small actually is a sexual plant and it has both male and female sex organs. The male sex organs are called the answer India and the female sex organs are cold. They ought to go near an effect effectively. The anterior produced little swimming things like sperm and they travel through a film of Water Which is why the profile. I need I'm to grow And they traveled through that film of water to the goon. Yeah where they will search allies an egg in in that place and Once the eggs fertilized begin to divide and we'll grow into a new phone which will look like once used to seeing so the sexual pulse of life cycle is by faith. Life Cycle is the domestic flights and the SX. You'll part the part that produces the spoils is cool. So let me. It sounds complicated. It's a system that's worked very well for Ferns for the last three hundred and fifty million years so it it certainly ineffective system indeed and it's something that is new to many of us who've perhaps grown plants from seed. The procedure is a little bit different. How do we know? First of all that a firm is ready to be harvested for spores. Firm can carry spools in a number of ways. It's always on a front. Which is what we call leaf. Basically we call them friends Unusually for particularly for the funds that we see as natives in the UK Those fronts look very much all the same whether they carry spores or not And so if you turn the front over on just playing green on the back they probably don't go to any sports if you turn the from Dover and look at the back of an east coverage and little brown spots then those what's cool soreye and those are the little collections that actually contain the spores. Some funds will get a completely separate type of front looks different from the rest of the of the plant to carry those balls in Sarai these little collections and ones that do things like Royal Sun which you sometimes see growing next to water middle. Have a big plume in the middle Covered in Soreye. And you can sit because as a golden brown coal aware of the rest of the plant is green. But generally for most funds that we come across commonly the Sore I carrying this buzzer on the back of the front. If they're very young Soraya not ripe yet they will appear white or Pale Green when they're just coming to the right sorts of ripeness to collect them they turn the sorts of time. Color generally wind up going over and released that Spos- they've gone. They don't Brown. What actually happens in that Source is the source contain lots of little containers which could spur NGO which actually contain the spores and those Speranza when they're ripe. If the winds dries little bits will burst open. And actually fire the spoils out so if you take a Franz where you're beginning to see the Tan colored Soraya on the back and you put on a piece of white paper in a warm dry place like the iron covered or in the dining room table or something like that whether or not drafts. If you need to overnight in the morning if you lift front off you will find that there was a person of Sarai on the paper where the sprint. You have phya down the schools. And they've actually hit the paper and stuck to it so you can get the very nice sorts of shadow picture of the front just may down to the poor scientists released.
Why Do People Have Dreams and Nightmares?
"When you're asleep. Sometimes strange things happen. You fly through the air like a bird but you don't have wings but then all of a sudden you do have wings and you go all the way to Antarctica and float over the ice watching Penguins Waddell over the edge into the water and seals swim up just below. Sometimes after you've gone to sleep you travel to a magical place. Sometimes scary things happen. After I stay down the hill I went into a cave near the bottom of the hill and I was super scared Saw The bay on his hind. Why and then after that. I put up my covers over my head and that helped me stop making that. Lean Jameson from Walpole Massachusetts. Sent us that dream that scared him but as he points out. Then you wake up and you're actually still in your bed. Everyone Dreams and dreams play an important role in the way our brains function. But we don't always remember our dreams today on but why we're GONNA listen back to an episode. We made about dreams. Here are some of the questions you have sent us recently about. How AND WHY WE DREAM? Hi My name is Nikki. And I'm six years old. I live with faceted California and my question is how do we get dreams? And why Hello? My name is seven years old. I'm from Turkey stumble. My question is why do we dream an have two mayors my name is listed and I will live and hair. Some Burke Virginia and I'm seven years old. Why DO WE DREAM? And can you control your dreams? My name is Anne. I'm from California and I'm seven years old. My question is why do you? Sometimes I feared trips mining this connor. I am in nine years old and I'm from Menlo Park California. My question is why. Did you sometimes have dreams? That have nothing to do with your day. My name is penny. Sure I'm ten years old. Eleven thinks burden Maryland. And my question is why when you watch things or scary things get bad. Dreams about. Halloween was real anna from Passer California and three years old and my question is at what age do keister having dreams harmonies my name is Liam. I'm eight years old. I live in New Jersey and my question is how do we wake up this? We have a nightmare today. We're going to get answers from Dr David Kahn. I'm on the Faculty of the Harvard Medical School in the Department of Psychiatry. A psychiatrist is a doctor who studies the way our brains make us feel and think and behave and a psychiatrist helps make sure your brain is keeping your mood stable and your emotions healthy. That's often called mental health. Dr Kahn got interested in medicine. Partly because like so many of you. He was really interested in dreams. I dream and I said Oh my God I dream a lot. And what is that all about? Why am I dream so different than when I think during the day? Let's see if I can learn something about it. I'm a physicist by training and so I decided that's a really good new area to investigate. And it's very personal. Sometimes physics can be impersonal. Dreaming is very personal so I decided to learn more about it. Here are a few more of your questions for Dr Com. Hi My name is Colin. I'm seven years old. I live in Phoenix Arizona. And my question is why do people have dreams and nightmares? Any is luke got MS seven year. Old Girl. And I live in New York City. My question is why do you have daas nightmares? And why do you have good thoughts? Good Dreams dreaming is thinking when we're asleep when we're awake up. Rain is actively able to think but when we go to sleep. The brain doesn't stop being active. It's just as active in sometimes more active than when we are awake. So dreaming is the way the brain thinks so if dreaming is the way the brain thinks when we're asleep why does it seem so different from the way we think when we're awake? I mean I don't know about you but even when I play pretend it's not quite the same as the magical worlds. I live in when I'm dreaming. James can be very strange because parts of the brain change compared to the way the brain is when we are thinking and awake what happens. The emotional parts of the brain are very active when we are asleep and dreaming often our dreams therefore who be scary or joyful or affectionate or even nightmarish because the emotional areas of the brain become highly active when we go to sleep and start to dream however. Why don't we say okay? This is a nightmare. I don't want to happen nightmare. I'm going to stop it. We can't because another part of the brain when we go to sleep and trim the logical part stops working. It's off line so in other words. I can't tell my brain to stop having dream whether it's bad or good because that part of my brain is shut down while I'm sleeping the part of the brain. That's logical and rational and tells you you should do this. I should do that checks out when you go to sleep. And you're dreaming so right now you're listening and you can decide. I'M GONNA listen or I'm not gonNA listen to Dr Kahn or I'm going to go and get an apple from the refrigerator or a cookie. You decide but when you go to sleep and you dream you don't decide vitrine just goes on as if you weren't there of course you are there but the part of the brain that lets you decide to do this or not to do. This is offline checks out is not working. That might sound a little frightening. A part of your brain isn't working but think back to our last episode. All about sleep sleep is an important time for your brain and body to recover from all the hard work you do. All Day while you're awake and it's also a time for your brain to reorganize itself so some parts of your brain need a little time to go offline as Dr Khan calls it to get a chance to recover and clean up but those other parts of your brain. The emotional parts are still very active. And so your dream continues and Dr Khan points out. That's actually pretty cool. Anything could happen. Which is not bad because you get experiences that you wouldn't have if you're a weight because your logical mind would say or this can't be. I can't fly sometimes. People fly in their dream costs. They don't know they can't fly when you're awake. No you can't fly so essentially when I'm dreaming if I'm flying in my dream or if I am a lion in my dream my brain actually thinks that I am that thing or can do that thing. Because there's no part of my brain that's telling me it's wrong when you're dreaming the part of the brain that knows you're not a lion or you're not a tiger or you can't fly fat part of the brain coast to sleep so to speak meaning. It's not working the way it works when you're awake when you're awake if you imagine you're a lion you can imagine that but you know that you're not a lion you can imagine you're flying like Superman but you know that you're not when you go to sleep and dreaming that part of the brain isn't working the same way and so you believe you're flying you you're superman or tiger. It's great to have all these interesting experiences when your dreams are good but if you've ever had a bad dream you know that they're not always fun. Hi Lendings Friday. I'm five years of Dover Massachusetts it island. Now why are they have scary deums? I'm Mac I four years old. I live in Michigan. I question why people have bad dreams. Wait was waiting for us. Owed I was an pence. Oh Bay Neha and I'm Wendy. While he getting night why do we have bad dreams that make us feel terrible and sometimes wake us up scared or crying? Dr Com when we were asleep and dreaming the emotional areas areas of the brain. That make us feel feel good feel bad. They're highly active. And since we can't control what the dream is going to be like. Sometimes it's very joyful and we're very happy. Sometimes it's scary. Sometimes a monster might be there or a bad person is chasing us. But we don't have the brain that tells us no. There is no bad person like we do. When we're

from you i'm waiting have something to admit to me oh yeah i guess i start with that man what a bummer we're going to start with that okay yeah you're right ryan newman did not advance in the play i'm sorry what now you're correct but you have to admit i was much closer than you thought i was going to be to being right on the edge of my seat i'm sure he's going to be right i've never wanted the driver to fail as badly as i wanted we both did honest and we both threw out there pretty badly that it was gonna go one way or the other and ah and man i was so close to being on the right end of this and then very uncharacteristic ryan newman mistake towards the end ruined but honestly i think regardless how well he raised those last few labs alex bowman made up enough spots and those last couple hours right i don't think it would've mattered i think you still would have missed out but man no that was exciting there was a point i think halfway through the race he was he was out ryan was out text you and i said you know what i better wait eight on that well it was funny tom tom anaheim one of our longtime listeners was tweeting me saying that well i guess carriers right and this was about midway and it was a long way to go oh man and then forty laps to go or whatever ten twenty laps go whatever it is and i don't know man looks like it's over it's not over yet oh my gosh well that was certainly exciting to watch today on the program we've got tyler rettig i hear he's got a spiffing new ride for two thousand twenty yeah definitely it looks pretty good yeah we'll talk about that later on in the program we'll actually have the interview of him first and then we'll talk about the news later because you know i talked to him a few weeks ago yeah the news came aim after the the interview so yeah that's kind of it's in the proper order dan right so you'll be hearing it in the correct order of which it all took place in history so that's great i have a bit of news about my website can i give that out or no sure yeah go for why not hey man i've got a new i racer you have a new i racer what does that means if you remember correctly before i announced that hey colin hudson driving for me on i racing running ace biffi ed toby christie dot com green and black black car designed by a designs wow that was fast you're ruthless well hey man you know you gotta do what you get your business but now he he's got a lot of things is let's play right now his schedules very busy so his racing scheduled kind decline a little bit at the same time i actually got a wonderful amazing marketing opportunity that fell in my i lab and i had just kind of had a jump on it so get the new toby christie dot com i racer has been announced on twitter and facebook so if you're there you priority but anthony alfredo nascar cups not nascar cup nascar truck series rookie of the year candidate is behind the wheel of the to- chris dot com car i've heard of his pasta i really like it actually has twitch username where he stream some of his video game stuff as fast pasta fast under tour pasta so there you go it should be a fun partnership it's it's great we've already been doing a lot of talking behind the scenes getting things going and that will start unveiling within the next week or two and we'll let you guys know where to watch extremes awesome very cool integrating yeah definitely man what's funny also playing nascar heat four right after the announcement and after we have been talking a little bit yeah so they've got him demon me on twitter i'm playing may ask her he four anthony alfredo semi video messages on their telling me such a clean driver so it's pretty funny all right nice that will shot of anthony on on my DM's and fake DM's getting a rep yeah definitely reputation there all right charlotte role is what we're talking about ten to one is how we're going to do things and we begin with joy llegado who is a pretty decent road course racer whoa yes he is he really is i actually expect him to be higher than tenth every time we go out to you know for how beaten and battered that car was i don't think he'll be upset about ten th place jimmy johnson was contending attending there for a time and then of course he he pulled jimmy johnson wow it's a now a sign of doing bad things that's that's wild how things have turned in the last couple of years it has yeah but yeah no solid ice fish for him i'm sure he's happy to get a top ten i know you wish he'd have a win but considering piled up but a few incidents in this race ninth place isn't so bad and he was pretty fast all weekend so he at least has that hangs hat on ryan blaney was the defending race winner and nachos and other top senate that i want to say that track but that configuration of that track yeah and he had some issues in this thing too i think he'll look tire rubber something towards interest does things the fact that he pulled out a top ten was pretty good too there for a little while look like maybe ryan blaney was the NBA in danger of not advancing the playoffs but he was able to rally it all back together in i and get a good finish road course ace martin tricks junior at number seven there yeah and again you kind of expect more martin tricks junior he started dead last after his weird fiasco in practice where he shifted the wrong gear and blew the motor and they had to do them in the and change transmission change worked up to the field pretty good i don't remember what got him back to seven because he was running for the win here late so i'm not sure how he ended up seven they kinda faded there in that last little last little run william byron was he led a bunch of laps here's the pole sitter nice nice to see him doing well brad keselowski at number five clint boyer wow that's like racing his way into the next round basically yeah and he's been kind of a road racer over the years as well i go back to william byron though this guy that nancy loss over somebody you always want to go back well i'm not going to go to laskey because he just ask you things and we expect good things but william byron has had a heck of a season he's turned things around for sure from his rookie year i think this guy's gonna start winning some very soon i it seems like they've been building and building liam building they're putting down great qualifying efforts all season long they're getting race finishes as well now i've got a feeling that twenty four cars going to victory lane sometime very soon actually i want to go back to brad kozlowski early really in the race they showed his car and his right front wheel was wobbling like a gosh i don't know a shopping cart is i think what retard said and i don't know how he managed a fifth place finish yeah it's kind of wild when you look at what was going on there obviously there was something not quite right but you know 'cause i ask excuse a consummate professional and it definitely didn't deter him from having a good run but that could have been kept him from victory lane so had that not been the problem yeah who knows how how high up kiosks have been all right now we've got to leapfrog to kevin harvick at number three and alex bowman all my moves into the next round just barely let's hear from his team owner rick hendrick nobody tries any harder than than alex does he just didn't give i'm up i mean he and he was quick but he i mean he just refused to lose today and i thought man if he gets up better chased ace we might have a problem but but now he alex is committed he's one hundred percent in greg that's such a good team i'm excited to see see where they're going to go here in the next round but but he did you know when you think about where he came from and finished second that was unbelievable proud proud of him how the hell did alex bowman finished second i don't know and i mean that is that is quite the effort and then when you see him get out of the car and collapsed to the ground yeah wow so we were talking about the new thing this was the thing alex bowman was going to be definitely short of making it to the advance of the playoffs else here because he had had a rough night lap one and he had to start near the back of the pack even though you scheduled start second but had practice crash in the last minute of practice so he started the very back crashed on lap one did not look very good kept having mistakes throughout the day got into a bubba bubba walls on the track later on and spun bubble walls on purpose got into another accident staged too so it was a rough day in it did not look like there was anything to salvage frogs bom and then all of a sudden this last little run the race alex bow oh in his starts picking up position after position position before you know it my goodness there is in second place what the heck he was a man on a mission and what a good friend bubba wallace says i i mean he is just a standup guy he saw his good friend alex bowman suffering heat exhaustion and he he came over and poured some water on him that was pretty nice of him to put some i'm cold drink on on the very warm i don't think it was meant that way obviously about the video oh but yeah so i want to also say this though i don't bubble also getting a lot of flack on social media about you know attacking even if you wanna call it attacking he threw liquid on a guy but while he was getting medical attention engine and i do agree that yeah you don't mess with people and they're going to medical medical attention but the same time bubble walls had very just reason to be very upset he was flat out taken out on purpose and attract that is very treacherous this is a weird race track and a lot of these places on this thing don't have softballs they've got weird makeshift walls here there and everywhere you know and get turned driver's side front first into the wall on purpose i understand why he was very upset i don't know if he fully understood what was going on at the time when he did it either either about alex bowen being under the weather what was going on so who knows if he was able to you digest all of that before he did that in the moment but i think looking back on it he wishes because he wouldn't have done that while he was getting medical attention but i definitely see where he was coming from on it all right let's head to victory lane now this guy missed turn one on a restart he starts crashes into the tyre barrier.

"Hey there far ciders? Welcome to case numbers three. We are so excited to talk to you about the Dover lights in Arkansas United States of America. It is located about seventeen miles outside of Dover, Arkansas. So Liz Keira what are the Dover lights? This is a great question. I have wondered this for many years because I have personally gone to the Dover lights many times since I moved here we've gone together. Yes. And it's scary. It's terrifying. You know, I do not get scared Noli. She doesn't and this place scares me. Yeah. It's kind of scary out there. It's just like a perfect place to do some sort of Colt activity. Yes. Yeah. That's what it feels like when you visit something eerie definitely happened out there for sure Gary it's a good word for it. So they're basically unexplained lights that hap-. Happen in this valley. You drive exactly seventy miles outside of Dover Arkansas, which is just a tiny tiny drive through town. I mean you blink. You'd probably missed it. They do have a dollar store. I think. Yeah. And I think maybe like two or three stop lights. Yeah. And they have a grocery store. Yeah. So you'll mostly see these lights mostly at night. And they were first observed bagging in the eighteen hundreds late eighteen hundreds aren't did not realize they were around for that long. Yeah. I don't know why I thought it was more of a. Body sent a clergy, and yeah, I didn't. I don't think I knew that. I didn't. But no one knows where these lights came from. There's three prevailing stories for it. I personally believe a lot of different things will which will get to a later in this story but stick around and we'll uncover the mysteries. Alright everyone located about seventeen miles outside of Dover, Arkansas. There's an overlook that allows observers to look down into a valley a valley with a creek running through it and absolately, no electricity. That's important for later here at night orbs of light appear and hover over the valley. Observers of the our toll to bring a flashlight and flash the light toward the valley to awaken the spirits, so Liz, what are these lights? I have no idea. I mean, really I don't either there is both been there. And I couldn't tell you. What are honestly I couldn't? I've only seen them once really. Yeah. I've seen them at least two or three time. Really gosh. I was talking to a graduate assistant of mine, and she has seen him three times. No way. I'm like recent. Yes. Wow. So basically, this tells me we need to take another trip up there. Yeah. And see what we see probably. Okay. I think that something we need to do anything back. An evening picnic in the dark. Not weird. Sounds like a. So really there's about three different stories for why these lights are there. I've heard of two of them. And I think we we've talked about this. We haven't heard the last one at all, right? It's it's very different story. I'm not heard it. But I kinda like it. I liked it. I think it fits what we see at the Dover light. Yeah. So we'll go through the stories, and we'll let you decide what the lights are. So one story is of a coal mine on the hillside, and that the mind collapsed one day killing several miners. That's the lights wandering the hill are said to be spectral light resembling the carbide lanterns the miners used to eliminate the mine while they worked. Okay. I think I've heard that story actually. Yeah. That's one that I heard, and I think didn't somebody from like the Discovery Channel. Come maybe like ghost adventurers or that sounds right. Very true thorough. I don't remember one show the nation truth. Yes. I don't. I don't know. What was? Yeah. I don't know who it was. But I know I agree with you. I think someone did come and they tried to debunk it and couldn't. Yeah. They did all kinds of scientific experiments, maybe Mythbusters. It could have been I honestly don't know I've heard of this happening yet. But they came to this place to. To disprove it. I was about to say dysfunc- it that's fine too. We're cool. But yeah. So this was kind of big I think that's the story. They went with on that show, though, the coal mining. That's the most notorious this the one I heard when I first moved here guess, so that's kind of the one everyone really goes with. But. Yes. So a second version is of the Spanish can Kista doors searching for gold in the hills. Even though vast deposits of gold were never found in the Arkansas Ozarks. Okay. I've never heard of that one. I've heard of that. But it was more like a Spanish lover died. Yes. That sounds dramatic. Yeah. And so like they light a candle or something to like show the way they're lever. Ooh. I like that signify love story. Okay. Yeah. That sounds legit. So that's the one I've always heard. Okay. But oh, I said three stories y'all we're in for four. Oh, wow. The third and oldest story is that the lonely canyon is an old native American burial site. And that the lights are the spirits of tribal leaders trying to find a way to lead their people to the next life. Okay. So after hearing this story, I do think I have heard that. Yes lore. I feel like I have heard that as well. Yeah. It sounds familiar now that I know it's the oldest story. I'm wondering why it's not the one that most people know. Yeah. Why isn't the most notorious? Yeah. Interesting curious curious and curious. All right. The fourth bonus story. And most detailed is as follows stick with me. It's kind of Wong. Clear my throat. Back in the mid eighteen hundreds and elderly couple lived on this now locally famous hillside next to big piney, the creek flowing through the area the wife became deathly ill. And she was too weak to make the journey out of the mountains. Her husband wrote off to town to bring back a doctor the physician road to the couple's home to find the woman near death. Now, the good doctor was able to save the older woman and stayed for few days nursing the woman back to full strength. The couple was very poor and had no money to offer to the kind doctor. However, the husband was very good at making his own hunting supplies. So he offered the only thing he had one dozen rifle bullets. The young doctor agreed with this trade and left the couple to ride back home time pass by in the doctor became very successful in wealthy one day as he was searching through his attic, he came across the bullets. He had been given his mind wandered back. He remembered the older couple and a time when the humble trade of bullets for his services was plenty good enough. He decided to polish the bullets in display them in his fiber as polished it became obvious that the bullets weren't made of lead. But rather silver? He believed the old hillbillies surely had no idea that it was silver used to make the bullets or they would have sold them and become rich greed overtook the doctor as he planned to visit the couple and find out more about the silver. He also formed an evil plan to take away the silver from the ignorant. Simple. Couple. The doctor road to the couple's home the next day arriving at sunset he found to headstone standing

"So as rude and disrespectful as it is she keeps giving him more ammo to work with you know, she says troop depletion instead of force depletion. And she doesn't want to give a military guy more, Emma? Right. Not if he's pointing his guns at you. Right. And she doesn't know the protocol around why the number for the forest depletion is left blank. And she doesn't know what the Dover test is. These are all things that the commander either expects her to know or maybe expects or not to know. But he has no patience with her. And that part is a bummer. He's got an attitude problem for sure. Yeah. Firms of briefing her and keeping her in the loop and trying to get her up to speed. Yeah. Helpful. Yeah. It's like his job is to get her up to speed. But I think he feels like Leo already knew this stuff. And he just doesn't have time. This part felt true to Sorkin in a kind of a few good men kind of way of leading. Look, I've got a job to do and you can either come along or not. But I have more important things to do than to make you understand. Why I'm doing the things? You know, there is a difference between force depletion and troop depletion. He says, you know forced to pollution. He estimates it at a quarter percent to one percent. But it isn't just about people. It's about munitions. He says it's about munitions structures and aircraft. But CJ keeps coming back to the troops. Which brings us to the name of this episode. The Denver test CJ also let me just interject. It's clearly worked on her mental math skills. We've indicated in the past that she seems to be enumerate. But she doesn't very quick mental math and this scene. Right. And she quotes one percent to two hundred troops. This isn't a body count. The one present includes the entire military force strength, editions structures, aircraft and troops. If you're going to be concerned about the Dover test. It's too early to worry about that. The divers has. Erosion of public support based on arrival of coffins in our airbase in Delaware. She's airbase Delaware. The Dover test is a real thing that refers to Dover air force base. And that base houses the DOD's center for mortuary affairs. It's the biggest mortuary under the department of defense, and it houses a lot of remains like the victims of Jones town and the crews of the space shuttle's calendar and Columbia and played a part in identifying the remains of military personnel in the nine eleven attacks. But while they're making reference to this Dover test. I think the title of the episode I think the real Dover test. Here is actually a test of Toby and his abilities to pull off the job of press secretary. So the Tober test would have been the best of all possible titles. I can't believe they didn't go with that. I'm amazed. It seems so obvious. I mean or the dober- test that tries to help. The test. I think is, you know, can you do the job of delivering the message of the administration, and it's this policy around the closing of access to Dover. That's really putting him to the test, right? I know that just about a year prior to this President Bush's war in Iraq began and at the beginning of that there was some sort of ban on allowing images to go out of dead soldiers returning from Iraq. I remember that was a big public issue. Right. What year was that that that happened, and I'm reading a Pentagon spokeswoman said the military white policy actually dates from about November two thousand under Clinton. But it apparently went unheeded uninformed, so they began to enforce this ban. Oh, so it really is. They just lifted that directly for this episode wasn't a change. It was adhering to a policy already and put the administration that's the exact same thing. And after that goes off the rails. And Toby sort of lets it slip that there was this conversation. And he reveals how the sausage is made a little bit on this very touchy sensitive topic and CJ's watching and she's just can't believe what's going on. And she finally sends Anna Beth in there to pull the plug on it. Right. I like this. To that. And she calls him on it explicitly that he led his own opinions sort of seep into the briefing..
