"If you're a mom just running because you don't like whatever mask mandates or whatever the case may be That's overwhelming We had a candidate in Kansas This is the last year This is a Republican leaning area Wealthy Republican suburb of Kansas City Who had to quit her the race because she was afraid of even losing her business over this She was being bullied online so often It's not a joke It's very difficult for some of these people who are not professional politicians and don't have the apparatus to withhold the storm that comes from these dozens of activists in every community And that's why I try to prepare them for them Ignore it keep your head down and work and do the things you have to do because it is so important What's your ultimately going to do is bigger than you When we did a race in Kansas I'm figuring which county right now But when they won the conservatives won the majority in a Republican area for the very first time and they passed something called the parents Bill of rights And it allows parents to complete autonomy over healthcare decisions healthcare mandates and also autonomy over what the curriculum looks like And this is a middle sized county but they've never even had that before And these three parents just running under the goods and hard fundamentally helped change and make better education in Douglas county Colorado They fired the woke superintendent after we backed them And right now they're trying to be recalled and they were slandered by the Denver press like absolutely slandered by them But the thing that they're trying to do is bigger than them So those who choose to run and these dozens of planets were backing in Florida right now It is a bigger I understand that maybe not the sexiest politics It's not about talking about wars and the economy or not but it is the most important policy It's the politics that affect your life every single day in the most intimate ways

"She walked with the protesters about a 150 of them African American people who are marching There was no violence or vandalism or anything like that It was like a very joyful family oriented feeling of people assembling for the march in the parking lot of the shopping mall on the weekend And it's time that we speak up We stand up and we let the world know their polite lives matter Was this like the only Black Lives Matter protest at the south Lake mall over the summer Yeah I think that that was the only one She did not see very many police officers there and she did not see any militia guys there If this did happen then the police and the militia were out of sight off to the side It's very common for malicious to either get on roofs or go around corners and just be staged nearby There was a Black Lives Matter protest here in Atlanta back in 2016 that I attended and as I was leaving and took a wrong turn in the parking garage and ended up on the roof And two spaces over there was a Jeep with four men with rifles in their hands looking out over the protests There's a lot of work that happens that isn't super visible It's worth noting too that zello is just one app that militias used for organizing I didn't have access to their communication on say telegram or Facebook chat After we aired this piece in October 2020 the leader of the Georgia 3% martyrs told Robin Kemp of the Clayton Crescent that four men from his militia did attend that protest but without its permission After that event he said he kicked them out The morrow police department did not respond to our request for comment A month after the moral protest I caught wind of another potential police militia relationship in Georgia I got word from Douglas county sheriff's department of day that they're supposed to have a protest in Douglas county over.

"Greeley because it seems as though The candidates that were successful in their bid are the candidates that are fully behind parent choice. Not parents centered whatever that means but parent choice. And you've got that very ambitious agenda a good one at that That is being affected by greeley evans. School district superintendent. Touch deirdre pills. She needs the backing of that board to make it all happen. Yeah it's going to be interesting to watch how that all plays out your mission. Some of those other school boards late last night. I saw look like douglas county school board was going all republican in those elections as well i think it was a pretty good night for republicans here in the state of colorado which is weird to say yeah. I couldn't disagree even weird to say that it was a good night for republicans in virginia even in new jersey. But yeah you're absolutely right now. You know that's really no surprise when you look at douglas county for example Going conservative But colorado springs seems to be and again These are all numbers that need to be fully vetted and approved by all of the county clerk's all of the excuse me all of the clerk recorders but it seems as though. Yeah you've got both colorado springs and a douglas county going conservative in terms of the makeup of those school boards talking with host of mornings with gail gayle. Fallon right now about an election recap. Okay let's talk about virginia. This was a state that joe biden won by ten points in twenty twenty and now the republican comes in and glen yung-chen cleans up a wins. The governor's race in virginia. What are your thoughts on that. Well again glenn young and now you know you talk about single issue candidate. Well he went all in on that. Basically saying look this is all about education and it worked for him and terry mcauliffe the former governor of the state running again. This time around didn't do himself any favors. And i'm paraphrasing here. When he came out late in the campaign and said well. I really don't think that parents really should have any say in what our schools are teaching to. Its was this kind of massive. Wait what did he say he rightfully so to. You don't say that no you don't but it's not only yung-chen but you've got winsome sears. Also republican making history. In virginia's the first woman woman of color to be elected To lieutenant governor and republican jason mirus on track to defeat the incumbent attorney general mark herring democrat in that race as well but i mean this is the first time in twelve years that you've seen a republican in virginia have a statewide victory in and of itself. Should tell you a little something. And how alarming. I mean the alarm bells gotta be going on for democrats across the nation as wurley a year in and in joe biden through. Its full weight behind behind terry mccullough. Who's running in virginia and still be hated to defeat like this. The alarm bells got to be going off well and it's interesting now. I talked to a political scientists this morning and i asked him that question. This as many say on both sides of the aisle a bell weather election and he came back with some. I thought was absolutely brilliant. Tanner he says. Well you know. They got a lot of time to fill those talking heads do then. That's what they get paid to do. But you even had a vice president kamala harris saying yes that this election particularly looking at virginia new jersey is a bellwether for the democrats in twenty twenty two and twenty twenty four. And i have to ask you how can it not be no..

"Custom was inbox. that's our email address pleasure to welcome jim cabinet of the program. Douglas county commissioner district to a county board meets every tuesday. And i got a heads up from jim the other day. I want to get a little more information here. Jim good morning you've got you've got You've got an idea that maybe you can lower the levy on property taxes Morning thanks for having me on tomorrow to stop any taxes for all homeowners and commercial properties embezzled county What result in millions and savings county property owners. And it's time we put our money where our mouth is for real property debts relief. How much relief are we talking here. I mean as far. Let's take the usual example as hundred thousand dollar home and the usual example is i times that i am going to propose a certain rate. And depending on what is is finally accepted that could vary the average home. Is i think about two hundred. Sixty thousand In douglas county. And if you take the commercial properties Along with that the the the reason for this is that twenty. Twenty twenty twenty one i- properties that does county increase like three billion dollars. That's over five percent increase in all properties In addition douglas county received fifty five and a half million dollars from american. Rescue plans Revenues from Washington we had twenty inch and a half billion dollars carried over for cares After money from Twenty twenty one or twenty twenty and we laughed Over twenty million dollars in unexpended expenses to the general fund for my own department. So all of this. In addition to the city of omaha we reducing its mill levy lancaster county reducing his mill levy shows that this is a town fiscal policy And it's based on you know hard facts and numbers. It's time the results of of millions of dollars in Saving to Douglas county property owners returned to them and You know this comes at a time. When many families and businesses and individuals are struggling with economic in. I don't. I don't know i don't know any property owners would disagree jim but i'm just looking at aboard here. I would imagine the mike friends and and Pj morgan would go along Possibly marianne. I don't see the boils and chris rogers giving a thumbs up to this. If it's about spending and savings. I mean they typically are are more liberal in terms of fiscal policy. What's your view conversations with my colleagues. And i think you know what happened. In lancaster county will be very instructive. They voted unanimously to lower their property. Tax mill levy and the council of omaha nebraska. Did as well. These should be instructive to my colleagues. And i've had these conversations with them exactly like we're having today about all of this money that's coming in over and above what we usually have. I mean when we have a i plus percent increase in the property tax base. And you just leave the mill levy Where it is your property tax. Bill is going to go up so without doing anything. There's gonna be a property tax increase. And i'm saying that this is the time to cut that in increase because we've got all of this other money coming in addition to the money that we didn't even spend out of our budget last year. Do you have a specific number of mine percentage wise. I'm proposing a mill levy decrease of a full mil I certainly the open discussions relative to maybe A million and a half. But we can certainly afford this. This is based on sound fiscal policy. And if you just look around the the other governmental units in the community. They're seeing the same thing and frankly. Douglas county is in better fiscal shape than the city of omaha. So the city can do this. There's no question in my mind based on all these numbers We can do this as well. The property tax cut is fair affordable. And the right thing to do as a sounding board meeting. I'll move to cut property taxes for homeowners and commercial properties in douglas county. And i think working together. We can do this feedback yet. But what are you expecting from. I mean your fellow commissioner. I've had some conversations with colleagues that have been very positive you know. I think that it'll be surprising to see who comes down. Where know based on mass of physicians that they may have taken in terms of being in favor of property tax relief. This is put your money where your mouth is time. You want to actually lower the mill levy. And that's what i'm proposing. We'll be watching. We'll be watching closely. Jim thank you. Jim cavanaugh district to douglas. County commissioner on. Kabc's morning news. Keep your eye on that vote tomorrow. So that's nice to see to see with property values going up and up and up. I if you lower the mill levy you have no chance actually say mayor stoddard She gets criticized. You know while there's only a little bit. Well i'll tell you what a little bit twice as better than going the other direction to me to me though sadler just cries out for legislation does but perhaps valuations. This is very common and other states. We have to be willing to do it now. I'd like to hear you know. What what commissioner cavenaugh. And all the commissioners would have to say about that idea because mayors don't like it because that curtails the money that comes in for city projects they can say i lowered taxes are handled the budget. But there's plenty of money because everybody's property's gone up Please weigh in on that one which nobody seems to want to support except governors. They liked the idea on thing at a time. No it's a good news. Says yes very very good very promising..

All right. time did not permit today because there is just so darn much going on these days but One crack this open tomorrow because let's just say that there's a little consternation going on when it comes to ongoing mass requirements in schools. Now you've got tri county health this tri county health department. Well yeah kind of in a divorce right now Basically as you got officials saying we're not playing by your rules anymore. So you've got that going on this. As douglas. County voted formally leave tri county health. And you know over the long weekend. Got into a conversation With a student that is in douglas county and he minced no words talking about the mass mandate and how the students are actually responding to it. in this particular douglas county school. So we're gonna get into this tomorrow. Because i'll tell you what it It is gaining speed. And it's interesting when you you know. Look kind of across the board. It seems as though parents are pretty evenly split when it comes to these mass these ongoing mask requirements. Pretty much fifty fifty and they're quite vocal about their particular preference Particularly those who are anti mask. While i've got some fascinating information Talking about how mass actually have well. A negative impact on many of our kids got a new study saying that. You know most of those face masks that we plaster on our faces. They don't work because they're not designed in the proper way to stop the spread of the virus again. "He said he always used to say well. Now i'm distracted. Where were we going to totally lost my train of thought along the way what you hate that. It's better for them to be talking about you. It's it's a good thing where they're talking about you when they're not talking about you. Something's wrong. I absolutely agree with you on that okay. Let's get it up before. I lose my train of thought. Again mar mike. Just take a show. Go ahead son. Yeah oh no. I didn't like them that. That is true. 'em older than your your grandpappy. I'm ready for that. I am not ready for that. But no i am fired up today but first before we get fired. Okay i do want to throw a shout out to colorado farm bureau and remember lou schultz. You look great guy. And he's a he's a farm bureau agent But i wanna throw a shout out to colorado farm bureau. They they actually sent someone out to my shop on a brand new day and we looked the car over and he said this is a brand new car. We gotta fix this right. And i'm like are you okay. Kobe temperature here that right. I just want. I just wanna say man. What an. I really wanna say kudos farm bureau because they send somebody out. They allowed him and like what he said he goes. I have tawny to do the right thing. And he did. And he's doing the right thing so get on. After insurance companies the allstate's the safe does the right. You know the state farms the farmers. I get after them Because you know the the sad thing is they don't allow those adjusters to do the right thing it is. Everybody thinks well. My insurance company cares about your agent might care right but your claims office can't or they don't keep their jobs period period. That's the way it is with. I would say ninety five percent at one of the things. I'm fired up. The most about is the. And i'm i'm gonna come back on i'm gonna keep harping on this photo estimating When your insurance company tells you to take a picture and then they're going to have the money in your account that afternoon. It is a very bad thing. I'm also seeing that. Because i i look at my market. I fixed cars. That's what i do right been. I've been in business. I've owned that place since eighty seven and so we. We have stood the test of time because we care right absolutely care. But i i look around. Tanner and i look at other websites of these. Like these big consolidators right and you see them actually promoting this nonsense of sunday's a picture and we'll write an estimate. Know how you can't do that. Why are you. Why are you making this a reasonable thing because no one can write an estimate from a picture. It can't happen there. Are things in life that you have to do in person and getting an accurate estimate on your car is one of them and if anybody tells you or tries to sell you on the fact i mean we can look at a picture and say hey i think but right. That's all you can do well. In determining the value of things right now too is something that has been so. I just had a. I had a buddy that went is going through something like this. You know he. He got an accident they told us pick up and talking with the insurance agency and this he's got a great insurance agent and ended up for him yeah absolutely and he He said look. You can kelley blue book this thing and you know it's it's probably gonna come back at eighteen. You know maybe seventeen thousand dollars. He said but look at the used pickup market right now and what they did. This guy went. And i can. I mean steve baer insurance bear insurance out in wiggins and he said well. You know what i'll do is i'll run a nationwide search for similar pickups and the average price now what kelley blue book booked at a at like eighteen thousand the lowest one he could find. There's only nineteen totally came back. The lowest one was like twenty four thousand dollars and they said he would pay down for for rights. The insurance pot lot of people don't know this and i'm glad you bring this up because that's that's another place. I get really fired up. When i see insurance companies Do a market analysis right. What the insurance policy says is that it will either pay to repair your car. Back to pre loss condition or pay up to the actual cash value. Yeah that's what is the actual act. Actual cash value is willing-buyer-willing-seller in an open market. Right and so how you arrive at that number. Is you find comparable cars and you know if like you said if it doesn't it they don't oh you book value. They don't owe you what you think it's worth. Ao you and you get that by finding other vehicles and if those were twenty four thousand one could assume yours. Do your research folks entrust your neighbor. Well some of your neighbors. Along the way mike. We got off on a tangent. We need to get a break. We'll come back on.

"Who is actually a coach. He coached me. When i was over at platte valley and he was. He coached up at estes. And just a great guy. And i've got a soft spot for the small schools around the area And just coaches call it. How it is. And and he said ee city up. Hopefully we have a regular season. We don't have to worry about this. Cova del that cova junk. And i'm like yeah. That's about right. But as as i do here on this program. I keep a close eye on. What's going on on the news. And this one just popped up here. Garth brooks country. Grundtvig's fan is cancelling his tour dates in five cities citing a rising numbers of cove nineteen cases watching this new wave. I realize we are still in the fight. And i must do. My part says garth brooks. I will tell you that at some point in time like don't you shouldn't we pick aside. I mean i think you know i. I hate wishy washy situations. But i was a humongous and i mean humongous. Because i'm old guy man garth brooks is. He's been around a long time but you know in his his first rodeo so to speak where he was huge man. And i gotta tell you i i i. I still like that music. It still takes me back to that time right but in all i kind of lost a lot of respect form of late right some of his political views. It's like man. Can't we all just be like elvis. And don't get political right. Just entertain us for god sue well and that's a and that's exactly but this to me. Sounds a whole lot. More like garth and tricia check their bank accounts and he said. We don't want to do this because i i you know. People are lazy by nature and If you checked on saddam we're good we don't need those can we blame. Covert thinkers versus late. But honestly i guess that that's still you know if if the people wanna go to the concert personally take personal choice man if they want it if he can fill the dam the stadium or the arena or whatever it is and people want to go and it's their choice to go. Don't get in the way you know. But i guess it would be hard for him to sing masked up right. Yeah that is true if he scared tri county health departments recommend mask for two years old enough for school back to your football situation. No i'm gonna be sixty this year buddy and i still as this as this time of year. You know that. Kenny chesney fall boys and it. I still think about that that you know in the year before those all those guys. That didn't get to experience. Mean they never they never get a chance to have that back. So you know i'm going to say i'm gonna era. I'm not going to err on the side of caution. I'm just say let's these are young men. They're not going to the chances of any of those boys. At any of those schools falling over dead from cova d- it's astronomically small. Got a better chance at getting all. Yeah well by by far by far better chances of that. It's almost the equivalent of getting struck by lightning diarrhea. But that's the beauty of small town. That's the of local and You don't get that in the big cities but but you know. I'm going to be sixty and i still think about my high school. It was right after the logan county fair. We got into two a days and that was that was just such a rite of passage man. They've done they've done away with those to my senior year was the last year that you could do to two guys became kind of. Hey i said after my senior we went through so you guys were probably the driving force. God we can. We can't do this it anymore. I was laying on to have a heart attack in eighteen years old. When i was in the best shape that i ever been in. And they're like maybe we do need. Did you know it was so obviously graduating from platte valley We had a big rivalry with eaton and their colin. Carlson was this kid's name. I loved colton. we call the marshmallow. A big country kid. He never would he got wound up and he wanted to stay away from him but he had this dunno where this country twain come. I've got a little bit of one little a little a little after a couple of beers This guy he's here's one of these things. He talked kind of this. Then we got done and we're giving a raw raw speech and how you know we're almost. Don't today's finish through. Finish this up. And he steps on goes. Yeah we ain't eaten and we're studying saying about eating eating like we're like we're not. What are we eating no. We're not meeting after this. He does now. aiden will come at. It was like the third time. We've we're like where did you even get that accent from your born and raised in kersey which the accident bro. I lived in kersey for quite awhile. Did you have about fifteen years. Sorry actually it's a great little great little town in. That's my two stepdaughters. That's how i ended up in kersey because quite frankly we didn't want the kids to go through the school so we took him out. Yeah where their discipline it was. They were did they graduate planet. Yeah i did not know that true true said and learn something new there. I love it because everything kersey is named cursing. It's kersey pizza Used to be the kersey ends out. There used to be the kersey cafe and then the name the school platte valley and it's just confusing as hell there. It isn't clear. Oh it's encouraging. I think you're right. I think they should change the name of that. Yeah i do too like. I want to end not in but i want to say one thing about that. And i i i was listening to the program clark right after the show when i left last Last thursday and you know he's talking one of the coaches and thank god for these men. Yeah and thank god for these men teaching these and these young men need guidance. They they they absolutely need it and they deserve it right and so it's winter doing his fantastic. It's been crazy So i got my first coaching gig. I'm helping out on the quarterbacks coach over at severance high school and it's been kind of crazy. 'cause you know some of the coaches i had Atp valley some i i. I don't talk to but some you know are are one of them's in gulf gulf league partner out at eton and some of these that will develop in the connections that you get and it's it is important to To be out there but some of these kids you can see it. It's like okay. This is their. This is their two hours. Every day that they get to come out do they. Don't have to worry about anything else to have a mentor. That is that is that holds them capable and accountable and it's hard on them I tell you A high school. Coach ed nelson out of sterling. High he I am still in touch with him today. Probably two weeks doesn't go by and he was probably at the time he was the most He was hard on me right and again. He held me accountable and capable but it goes back to that old asteroid forty forty plus years later man right about that man every every every he was one of those mentors and again what i hear on the program. It's it's really cool that that that case you know supporting the that prep sports some time. Because you know that's where you know that's who we are. That i mean that is such an imprinting time. For for young men and women Is that high school time. And it's not easy for all of them but no like i said i do not regret my time in high school sports man. It's like the friday night hero right. Yeah well and you go back in what. You're talking about the Coaches being hard on you. I mean it's that old adage right. It's it's better to be getting yelled at and push because they believe that's got more that's how the world is going to treat dry but they that that person believes that you've got more in you and they want to dig it out you're off to the side and the coaches and then you get issues this. My my dad had his birthday on sunday. Couple years younger than you and he said which is that means. Never mind your old. That's But he.

Thirteen percent of my protozoan countertops specialists. So you open it up with wiggins you got better. I mean this this one eight classification. There's normally one or two top tier teams to really take off. Bennett is normally one of those. What are your thoughts on the one eight classification this year and you guys is scheduled. We we have. We have a tough schedule. I i'm that serious. I mean everybody is going to be a tough opponent and you know looking across the board. I mean you know just everybody stack this year. I think There's really we can't take the foot off the gas at all so You know we gotta stay healthy Keep everybody keep everybody healthy and And safe and You know it's gonna be a grilling season. I mean there's always strasbourg anton. And i'll tell you what wiggins going to be a. They're going to be a handful this year. They they return a lot of big boys and You know we're going to be a dogfight from from week. One to week nine i think so Kind of how. We were last year as well. So right i mean if you come through the other side of that. You're you're prepared for you know that that october november run. Hopefully taking a look at it. You know you look at the schedule too. I mean estes. Park up in estes park. Are you looking forward to that. One w fun for you. Yeah that'll be fun. It'll be better sweet You know. They're greg group of kids out there and You know it just. It's going to be a challenge for sure Whether always plays into that You know the my. I guess my last game up there was probably a you know. I think it was about five below zero. We played highland. Actually you know whether it's going to play into that one up there for sure. Yeah talking with tom. Creature the coordinator for the highland. Huskies you know you talked about. He had a big senior class last year in the program's history when you when they had graduated a big senior class. That was a little bit of an issue because they would look back. And and they would have to retool rebuild Great programs reload right. And they've they've got the next people set up and ready to go. We've been seeing. That is that where you feel like highlands add now. Where instead of having a rebuild every year that you graduated big class you can just reload reload process. That's that's exactly right. I'm we gotta you know another big senior class and then A big freshman class this year as well so You know look forward to the future's bright You know the the the kids that are stepping in this year replacing or or or hitting on all cylinders and or just going keep moving forward. What would it take for you to say yeah. That was a successful year this year. Don't have any cova cases no but in all seriousness on the football field What is it what expectations this year. The douglas county is meeting the opt out of tri counties mask requirement for school so the tri county health department voted to require masks for ages. Two to eleven year olds earlier this week to eleven year olds. This is to my knowledge. This is the first time we've seen it from that low of an drive from that early of an age. Douglas county wants to opt out of it and has a special meeting planned thursday morning. It's happening right now actually It's or excuse me starting in about twenty minutes it starts at ten thirty The public can come and speak at the meeting this morning. Douglas county wants to opt out of the tri county public health order as they believe it should be an individual choice to wear a mask if a county chooses to opt out. It is then up to the school districts and individual schools to decide that they will follow the public health order. If this is resolved or past this will go into effect on august. Twenty third approach choice mask. Peaceful protests is planned for august twenty third. The event page says there will be a mass rally outside the douglas county school administration building on wilcox street at eight thirty in the morning. So tri county health department says. Yeah we're going to require this to eleven year olds Douglas county who We've seen Have issues with a lot of the trae. County health department requirements recommendations says. Wait a second hold on. So there is a website healthy children dot org. It's mask mythbusters comma questions about kids and face masks. you know. there's there's simple ones can wearing a mask. Meghan harder for my child to breathe. There been concerns. The facemask can reduce oxygen intake and can lead to low blood oxygen levels known as hypoxia hypoglycemia however massacre made from breathable materials. That will not block oxygen. Your child needs mask will not affect your child's ability to focus her. Learn school the mass murderer. The vast majority of children aged two or older can safely wear face masks for extended periods of time such as the school day or at childcare. This includes children with many medical conditions. So there's there. I answer right. Can mask interfere with a child's lung development. They say no do mask trap. The carbon dioxide that normally breath out no however children under two years of age should not wear masks since they may not be able to remove them without help can lead to a weaker immune system by putting the body under stress. Now how to mask prevent the spread of over nineteen goes through The doctors here on this. Study to to Doctors dr dickenson kimberly dickinson is a pediatric pulmonary. Fellow at johns hopkins university in baltimore and theresa gilbert She is a professor of pediatrics at the university of cincinnati. Who put that together. So and i know there are people who There are people who will have disagreements on that on the health and the lungs of two years and up. Seems very very young to me. and Let's see there's a there is a study out here See if i can get this pulled up here Some having some technology issues there is Respiratory infection are as v surges and south as mask us Continues on So there's there's studies on both sides of this. I think it's still out there. Let's let's say it is safe k. Let's say it's not gonna have any effects on the lungs of these children. What about the psyche of it two years old and and having to wear that mask and every time you go out you know not being able to see that face recognition of people that they can trust not being able to understand that okay. Yes they are safe. It starts to set the precedent that well. Maybe we're maybe were not safe. Maybe i shouldn't trust these other people. Maybe these other people are going to put me in harm's way there's a mental aspect to this as well and it's one that hasn't received a whole lot of conversation about and it should two years old in required to wear a mask is is alarming to me. It it really is. And if i was a parent at this point and i had a kid at that age that was getting ready to get into Get into preschool or kindergarten. Or whatever age. They're getting ready to get into. I would have to think long and hard about it about sitting there with a mask. Because i look i i mean we. We all wore masks for over a year. He tried to anything. You start running around at all with a mask on and get some of us. Just because i'm out of shape but that mask it does make it harder to breathe. I don't care what these scientific studies are is just common sense when he puts something covering your nose and your mouth. You're not gonna be able to get the amount of oxygen that you're normally able to get to to eleven years old can to be required to wear a mask seems like we may be missing commonsense somewhere along the way.
