"You know, when you stick to your guns like that? It drives me insane. You know, I've been wrong about many players over the years. I've been right too. But you know, that's why I tried to simplify it all to ask you. Um you know this question about Carson Wentz to describe it to an outsider who has no idea otherwise. How you would describe Carson Wentz is a quarterback. On a simplistic way to someone who has no idea and to this point His description has been that of a franchise quarterback, which sadly half the time I hear he is not. Matt in Burlington is on W Hey, Matt. Hey, I doing man until though My way to describe Carson wins the first I would say three words tough. Unlucky but loads of potential But I mean, Hok, unlucky, very unlucky. I mean, The things that he had gone. You know things that he's been through with the Eagles so far, But now only that you know the ways you're still tough going about with Nick Foles. The injuries Jalen hurts now. And But now that I mean, just a he finally gets the team after Nick Bulls and then Season after season, the offense falls apart around him. I don't know how you can have that type of luck, but Carson wins has it and it's not working, but a lot of it is a lot of the mat has to do with the general manager who certainly didn't do him any favors. You bring an injury prone live receivers. What happens, they get injured. You know, you draft young guys who are not prepared yet for the NFL game, And then you was the quarterback has you know you're the sacrificial lamb of it all? Because if you don't It's not a one man team you have. Although he's most important position, you know, you have so many players on the field at once. Everybody has to do their job. Of course, but I guess I'll say this for my question would be Do you think that with you know how we dug and Carson they can cash in with this year's first round pick and Jane rigor when he comes back? Get down. Got her back, You know, Offensive line. I don't even I don't know, but With That's the only thing that if Carson can get it right with Jalen Reagor, even a little bit. Maybe you'll see of a run for the Eagles. Or just an improvement with Carson. The offense bigger plays. I mean, I just don't know the potential Carson when Jalen are just jail in regular period, right? No, I mean, man, I appreciate the call. This is what makes it all the more interesting. I didn't get a chance to talk about this with Dave's and Garrow and I wanted to, But the conversation went really long. Um Doug Peterson's play calling this past Thursday was absolutely horrendous. It was terrible. For three quarters. It was the most vanilla offense I've ever seen in my life. It looked like someone who was coaching for the first time and it drives me nuts. How Doug gets into these. I I don't understand it. Where the the point You know why I'm bringing this up is because what? The last quarrel with Jalen Rigor Excuse me. Jalen hurts. We waited forever in this game like I well, they don't have Mile Sanders. I suppose jail hurts is going to get a lot of I know a lot of plays in this scene, a lot of rushes, whether it's you know, he's taking it right from the snap, or he's just doing some kind of something unique. You know something creative that you would expect the Doug Peterson to put together for While not having Miles Sanders Instead you saw nothing. You saw the most plain offensive in my head. I'm like, what the How did Doug Peterson do? But I mean, come on. It's the Giants you're playing. It's not the Ravens. It's not the Steelers. You could try to get a little creative. They're nothing special. So what does he do? Finally, when you see Jalen hurts late in the second quarter, he hands the ball off tomb, are he? He takes the In the most obvious of plays. He takes the snap behind center and scrambles to the left. And the defense is standard saying, Really, this is this is your great design play here. And he gets Caught for two yard loss. Then you don't see him again for another quarter. And I'm like Doug, This is your fifth year in the league, man. I don't want to hear that. I only have three days to put a game plan together. It doesn't take much to think of something unique to try to use Jalen hurts for this is why you drafted him, isn't it? Other than I was in the city behind the starting quarterback. If you want to throw him in a different place, and you're the one that brought it up how it could be like how the sinks run their offense, and that's the best you can do. And that puts even more pressure on someone like Carson Wentz. To doom or than he should, which results in some of what you saw. No. What's he working with here? You know this past Thursday was AH. Horrible display by Doug Peterson. Horrible It took. It took him saying in the fourth quarter when he was all out of ideas, and they're down 11 points after a 97 yard drive by the Giants, which should have been the nail in the coffin. He, Carson. Do, you know, do your thing, and Carson does his own thing and they come back and win the game. He completely takes over. Audibles at the line of Times, does no huddle of times and has to get back to back drives. Where there is no room for error with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, down two touchdowns and they win the game. Carson bailed Doug Peterson out Thursday night. And he also bailed Jim Schwartz out, too, because although the defense look good in the first half to allow 15 play 97 yard drive to the Giants Jason Garrett made Jim Schwartz look silly in this game. That? I mean, can you imagine what the conversation would have been? Had Carson not did what he did. So when I hear our conversation this evening and I bring up the hole How would you describe him to someone who wouldn't know Otherwise? Just about everybody has described a franchise quarterback. So when I hear people come on these airwaves, both host and caller like and it's not everybody some Who have formed the opinion. That he's nothing special. He's an average guy. I'm like, What the hell you watching? What are you watching? And they'll give you a look at the studs and he's 16 And 16 is a starting quarterback. Yeah, because that's what we're going by here. You wanna twist number second twist him in any way I want to Have you watched the game used the eye test. If you can't base anything off your own two eyes, then you shouldn't be commenting about it. 2155929494 is how you get involved. That would be a wonderful time to do it..

Coaches confront reality of positive COVID-19 tests

"There have been more positive covert 19 tests this past week with NFL teams and games are being forced to be rescheduled. Doug Peterson said he is well aware of the situation around the league. But has to continue to keep his focus on his team. If I worry about that, honestly, my stress level goes through the roof already and and so I just want to focus and make sure that our guys were doing Not doing the right thing. Peterson did say the recent positive test should serve as a stark warning to everybody in the NFL. I do think it's a little bit of a wake up call for the entire league coaches and players, right, Teo to maintain the protocols that are in place everything that You know, we started way back when camp began to now we've gotta We've gotta maintain that Peterson does believe the Eagles will let someone be affected by the situation surrounding schedule Changes due to covert 19

"In and you somehow, even though I don't think it's right that the league does this, but you somehow have a home playoff game. You know, you tell me if you're in if you've won Four out of five and you're hot like that that you can't win a first round playoff game at your place. When you know, maybe there's a few more fans allowed in. Who knows? So I just think anything could happen. Ah, you can't control health and certainly the injuries have have played a big role and where the Eagles are right now. For sure. But it could also work the other way and you could finally start to get a little healthier and get some depth. Get some of your better players back and get a little continuity. You know any of these things could happen. So I'm trying to Keep sort of the positive. Outlook of this thing, while also recognizing the issues. The injuries are an issue. Ah Wentz. And the way that he has been just all over the place really brutal during stretches and then incredible, really late in games. That's got to be better. It's got to be more consistent. That's for sure. Ah, you're going to need Doug Peterson to be better. You're going to need when Jalen Rigor gets back for him to contribute. It can't just be the Travis fold. Um, you know, Greg Ward show here when Zach Ertz finally is healthy enough to be able to go He's gonna have to start looking like Zach Ertz that we've seen throughout most of his career is an eagle. Dallas Goddard when he gets back He's got to look like that guy who was ready to step in and take this thing over. From Zach Ertz. All of these things we need to say. You know, from a defensive standpoint. Too many games of 30 plus points. Too many. Ah, Daniel Jones ripping off 81 yards and thankfully, the turf monster got him. You know and just missed a HK free football. On both sides. Are they capable of doing that? I have my doubts for sure. You know, we haven't seen nearly enough. From this team, or really idea think about I mean, they haven't won two games in a row all year. We've seen very few, if any. Just just consistent. Four quarters of football. So you know, while I'm realistic about it I also think it and I just don't agree with the camp. Of people who want this thing to lose. On purpose. I don't know how you do that is a fan. I don't know how You could possibly want to go through 9 10 more weeks of misery. I just don't I don't understand it. I won't understand. But there are look I get the I I want to drive the message home to the front office More than I even do the draft pick because with a draft pick, there's no guarantees. And especially the way the Eagles have drafted. I can't bank on that. That's for sure. So we talked a lot about that We always mix and match right? Gave you some food topics. How you like your Philip Philadelphia centric food prepared? AII your cheese steak, but you could throw your hoagie in there. You could throw anything else. Get all your your scrapple if you was never a scrapple guy. But if you wanna throw that in there, you know whatever. You could mix that in his well and You asked the question earlier on a day like today, where the Eagles aren't playing. How does that Sunday set up for you? Is it just I'm going to sit on the couch and watch football is a fan and I don't have to be nervous or, you know, concentrating or dialed in. I'm just going to sit back and chill. Or is that the day where Oh, man, I better go out there and rake the leaves or get this project done that I've put off. That is your Sunday work when the Eagles don't play and I'll tell you I think we've gotten a little bit of both. For folks. Who have kind of mixed and matched a little bit, But it is. There's always that trepidation of what it's gonna look like on that Sunday. Whether or not you're Aah! Your spouse. You know has has the whole list ready for you? That's a bummer. I think we've all been there at times where you know you're stuck in some family family obligation. Or You know you're out shopping and you're checking your phone 24 7. I've seen how you doing in fantasy. You see what's happening with the Washington and Cowboys games and you're like I want to be anywhere but where I am right now. But God. Sometimes you gotta pay your dues, man. That's just that you gotta pick and choose your spots. It's gotta Robert in Washington Township. One stocks of birds, Robert, You're on 94 to be I pay. Hey, Rob Robert, how you wanted to call and talk? Because last time I talk to you, we were taught. You had asked the question about you know, great great comedies and movies and stuff. We talked about night shift. And it was funny because I was saying something about Kevin Koster being in the fraternity party and the guy that we missed on talking about Tim Ross ceviche. He was in that and he was a linebacker for the birds. And we didn't even touch on the fact that he was in that movie. Try to run. Then what was it? Was he one of the the boyfriend? He was the boyfriend, Shelley. Long universe? Yes. In the apartment in the apartment and yet, you know, he had the had on him. So he had underwear on and he had the world. He had the weapons and the whip. Yes, Yes. Good call waiting, and we've even hit on that need an annex Eagle, right. I need to watch that again. It's been, you know, it's been too long and they don't. It's not one that's on. You know, quite as much as like Shawshank or Road had something else that needs to be on more. No, and it's probably I think it was Michael Keaton's best, but you know, I was my favorite. I don't want to talk about the first I listened to your earlier when you were talking about Logan, and that was a real keeper. And I The things I've been thinking about it. Just listen. Everybody is that you know, With all these injuries and stuff, we're getting an opportunity to see what players are going to be guys gonna be here in the next few years, you know, And I think you know you look at the wide receiver set. I mean, this kid high tower. What a big catch. In that game against the Giants to get these guys down the field and to give them you know, that was a third down play. You know, he catches that boy. You know, he drives one while back a man He runs. Good routes. Yes, I think, Robert. He just needs reps like you know, sometimes, young guys, you're going to drop passes like that. Carson Wentz pummeled, Eagles suffer distressing loss to Washington

"To say the least, the opener of the Eagles or their fans were hoping form K Y. W's David Graham joins us Live talk about everything that went wrong against Washington. Hey, Brandon, Well last year in the in the Eagles came back against Washington from the 17 Nothing deficit this year, they called up 17 Nothing. Lee's started out as a celebration for Eagles fans of the 2020 season. And it has turned into a nightmare. Meryl Reece called 27 17. Lawson, w. P, and one of the reasons yesterday happened, Carson went back eight times behind an inexperienced offensive line definitely didn't make me skittish. You know, some of those things I gotta clean up might had open guys that I could get rid of the ball quicker. Doug Peterson said. The sax can't happen to head coach called 42 past place to 17 run, he admitted. The run game needs cleaning up a CZ well. "Do some of the most Mind boggling things, and at the same time make the most brilliant place I've ever seen. I mean, it's literally it's as manic as it gets, where he's throwing against his body across the field. Somehow, that's not picked off. But then he throws the terrible interception. And then he drops an absolute diamond Boston Scott and you're saying Wait, What just happened? And they won and why? You know your left half stunned. What do you make of what's happening with once here? It's a really good question. I pride myself on being like, totally down the middle and like locked in and focused when I'm writing about an Eagles game, But I can tell you when he when he threw that passed across his body. In that game. The other night, I yelled out in my house by myself. What the hell is he doing? It was just an incredible play. And I think the question that that the Eagles and Doug Peterson in particular have to answer is Are these reckless plays necessarily The tradeoff for the spectacular place that was always the argument with Brett Farve, right? Was that you know, there's that famous clip from NFL films of Mike Holmgren. You'll throw away throw away, throw it away and far tries to make a bad throat gets intercepted. Holmgren loses his mind. You know, and and that's the way Barb's play was always justified Overtime. Yeah, he's going to make dumb throws like that. But then he's going to make this incredible creative throw, and he's going to drop a dime late game and win your game, and that's just You have to live with Brett Fart. You know Carson is a smart enough guy that I would think at some point. He's gotta stop those kind of really, really reckless sort of plays like the Going across his body the other night, But I think some of that comes down a Doug, I think some of it has to be like Doug reining him in at times like you're up 17. Nothing weak one against the Washington football team. You don't need to throw deep late in the first half. You don't need to throw out two receivers. Who are, you know, not particularly familiar with the whole ski offensive scheme and system and all that. You don't have to keep pushing the pedal to the metal all the time. And so I do think some of this falls on Doug to kind of keep Carson reined in. Just say hey, hey, buddy, Hannibal off here or throw it to the check down or whatever, and try to manage him a little bit better, I well said, and I agree, and you also have to try to decipher how much of this is Carson, recognizing what's around him, and maybe being a little, you know, short and he's he's feel like even though it's it's still ill advised. He feels like he has to do this verse is when he's got, you know, a full complement. Are you still writing some of these boneheaded plays? I would agree. That's a good segue way into Doug here because You know, we've seen some puzzling things from him as well. I mean the decision in the Cincinnati game which, you know, look in the long run. Even the white I'm personally was yelling and screaming about it. It may pay off for them with the tie. That, you know, going for two in certain circumstances where it just feels like you're trying to force the the mantra of you know, we're gutsy and all that. I guess I'm going to sort of set it up the same way. You know, it feels like it's been very up and down for Doug is well through the first seven. It has. But we've seen this from Doug before too right? I mean, there was that game. I guess it wasn't 2018 against the Cowboys a couple years ago, where they scored a late touchdown to tie the game. They had the choice of going for two or not. Um, if they go for two and get it, they're going to win the game, you know, And they decided to kick the extra point and ended up losing in overtime. And it was a game where the Cowboys were just, you know, going all over the field on the Eagles defense all day. They couldn't cover Mark Cooper. They couldn't They couldn't stop back all of that stuff, you know, So Doug has had these kind of conundrums before. I think in this situation, what he's doing is he doesn't want to allow. He doesn't want the fact that they are short handed. Like a tail him from calling plays and calling games the way a. He wants to call them. And more importantly, be the way Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman want him to call them. I mean, you have to remember here, Rob that Laurie is a guy. Who loves offense. He loves to watch it. He loves when his team scores a lot of points. My colleague Jeff McClain had a great anecdote in one of the stories earlier this season about how Laurie After the Eagles beat the bear 16 15 in the playoffs a couple years ago, the double joint game, Laurie was happy to Eagle one, but he was frustrated and disappointed that they had on Ly scored 16 points. And that's the way you know Doug is coaching and the Eagles are playing the way Jeffrey Laurie wants a team like that play, so I, you know, I think some of this comes down to Doug weighing like, Oh, you know it's discretion. The better part of valor here, you know, I was playing for the tie. You know, the smart thing to do in the moment Is it going to help us long term is doesn't send a message to my team. He's gotta juggle our stuff there and the fact that they're shorthanded as they are, does not help him in any regard. Very fair. Very fair or speak of Mike Sadowski. Mike, I got to ask you. I know I get a sense and We talked it out with a couple callers today, but not a whole lot of people least in this area watching the World Series, but it's been. It's been a remarkable one, have you? Ah, Have you been paying attention? What's happening there between the Dodgers in the race? I mean, I wake up in the morning and I see what happened..

"And it from an eagle standpoint does anybody feel good about this set up here where there's no offense of coordinator what I'm really starting to worry about here is I thought that one of the great strengths of Doug Peterson was that he was flexible that he was a listener that he was taking input that it was a guy who were his quarterback could walk over to in a super ball on fourth down and suggest the play and Doug rolls with it that's what I loved about dog what worries me now is Doug is a bit of a control freak and the fact that you're not gonna be calling plays may be your input is gonna be taking all that seriously this job as an office a quarter is not that appealing like this wasn't the plan all along clearly if that was the plan you would just elevated couple these guys away it so you don't know what I'm talking about we'll get to the list of one second here but if you're not sure what I'm talking about Doug Peterson will continue to call plays and be the the head coach there will not be an offense of coordinator named Jeff stoutly who's the offense of line coach and do Staley who's already running backs coach and assistant head coach are give me the run game coordinators press Taylor who was the quarterbacks coach last year is still the quarterbacks coach but he's also the passing game coordinator now they've also brought on rich asking around well who was a former offensive coordinator for the Broncos and a fire danger brighter they brought him in as well to add to the offense of staff but this to me reeks of guys we really wanted to talk to didn't have interest in talking to us or we were blocked in the case of my calf got and which left us with the pool of guys that weren't all that impressive so we didn't pull the trigger on any of them so we're gonna stay Pat with what we have and just elevate these guys I don't like it I don't have a good feeling for another good sense Ford I wanted somebody to comment I know its Geiger Rollo and and and brighter from the outside but I wanted somebody to come in from the outside to have a strong voice without Peterson and it doesn't appear that that's gonna

Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?

"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.

"Doug Peterson spoke to the media yesterday we really didn't have a good idea about the injury status because Doug didn't have an update on some of these players because he hadn't spoken with his medical staff yet but he has spoken to them since and this morning a W. I. P. Doug had a little bit more to offer about whether John Jackson Alshon Jeffery and others would be ready for the Detroit Lions his day to day with these guys and we're gonna continue to to you know re have these guys this weekend and and see where they're at I'm you know I'm I'm not gonna commit right now to that because I want to make sure they put in a full week show week of practice before before we make that determination does to shore less Sunday night early with a growing problem he tweeted yesterday that he'll bounce back as soon as possible now shows Catherine is in serious according to the NFL network but the eagles to play two games the next nine days and that's not ideal Tim surely can reportedly broke his foot but it isn't expected to be broken enough to where he needs surgery that should put about about a month that was more significant and and so that one's a little bit longer than than these guys get money back court clinic shoulder is said to be one or two weeks according to NFL network and there's no rumor about tied in Dallas Qatar as far as how some of these guys suddenly got out of no where Paul is is is is physical strenuous sport I mean these guys are running all the time you know they run to run in practice things things come up I mean. you know your see above a few more things you know with some of these injuries around other sports as well guys well some of the some in the city may be very concerned as Brandon Brooks may be very concerned about the eagles injuries Doug Peterson that he's not going to pass okay and we will open zero.

"And and, you know, take to get you know, increased maturity, I think one of the things you said on the podcast, which I thought was really brilliant was the maturity gap between wins and foles right now is pretty big. But that's even say Carson Wentz is a pretty mature guy for a quarterback his agent of his experience. It's one of his one of the things that made him so attractive coming out of college. It's one of the reasons the eagles traded up to get him. Because he he does have his feet on the ground. You know? But I do think that last year messed things up for him. And he came into this year wanting to do too much. I think he he wanted to get back so badly that he tried to force the issue on the field and off the field. And I think that change in the offense of coaching staff. Maybe. Changed the way some in the locker room perceived him, whereas, you know, not being there. I can't say for sure but Frank Reich and Doug Peterson. We're quarterbacks in their career. They've had they've had long careers in the NFL. So they're familiar and probably somewhat comfortable with a young quarterback. Having a strong opinion about what plays they should run. And what they should do this stuff. That bothered me. If it is true is if Carson Wentz had come in and said, I don't wanna play. I'm not running any of that Nick foles stuff because you got to do what's best for the team. And if the Nick foles stuff works, and if it stuff that Doug Peterson wants to run Carson Wentz should be mature enough to run it. Whether that's true or not. I don't know. If that's if that's the case, I would hope that that is something that changes with Carson, if if that kind of an attitude festers and maintains itself, then yeah, you could be you could see the situation devolve and grow from three to a six or seven, but we are a long way from that. Because we know that Carson Wentz a young. Christian kid who I think wants to do. Right. I think that he is very well respected in the locker room. He's got immense talent. And I hope that this year is a part of the learning process that a young quarterback goes through. So yeah, I'm not stressing big about this. I think it does just call to everyone's attention. The fact that he is not perfect. And maybe everybody has to be okay. With the fact that Carson Wentz is not perfect. And that maybe he is like other big time quarterbacks that we have seen in this league that had success. I wanna read you this tweet from eagles blog who Derek Sarli of the former WWW dot eagles, blog dot com. A great eagles while that used to in the world. And this is what he tweeted the other day..

"It sounds like as long as they can slow down the saints a little bit US think the eagles have a chance here. Listen, I well. I don't really know. What listen here's what I think. I think that this is a game that Doug Peterson is almost built to coach because he always wants to be the underdog. He wants to be the guy that you need trick plays. You need to go for it on fourth down you need to take big chances. And so we have seen in limited sample when they're the favorite when they just need to go with a standard gambling. They haven't thrived. But in the game where they are decided underdog where they are going to have to make big plays on both sides of the ball. I do trust Peterson in that spot to have his team ready, and we have seen from the eagles. They are. I don't think they're going to have them in tally of let's just make sure we don't get blown out in the first match of one of the reasons they got blown out cars once threw three picks. This could be a game. Nick foles throws three picks. That's gotta be on the board because you're going to have to take chances. You're going to have to take shots. You're going to have to try to make big chunk game changing plays on both sides of the ball that. Leave you susceptible to the opposite happening that why that's why the such a tough game to pick. Could. I see eagles winning. Yeah. They could could I see the same twin by twenty one points. Absolutely. Like the eagles to me. Best chance is a game plan that allows them the the possibility of getting blown out. I believe that the eagles especially the defense. You can't give the saints too. So I believe you put people in the box take the saints out of the running game. Because the last two years what do the saints wanna do? They wanna build a pound the football. So as you mentioned they need to be able to get in the gaps in get tackles for losses on first down their secondary can be had. So I'm concerned about their secondary. And how they match up with champagne I believe after the bye, I believe Theron Armstead being healthy as far as left tackle helter. He's got a torn, Patty. So he's not going to be healthy until he gets surgery. I bleed that the saints get back to the saints that we saw in week number two to about week number thirteen. Eighteen right. Those are the saints believe show up on Sunday. And I believe that this is the end of the Nick, Nick foles, right? Well, you have to have Kamar too. Right. So what happens is if he's offset, and I'm a defensive end don't worry about going to get the second need you to chip him. I need him half the release inside of you. Because I can't have him isolating his my linebacker. So I gotta make sure I haven't bracket us look. So that means if he leans means you get Phil as as definitive don't run by chip him to make that you can't get out slows down your pass rush. But at tries out yet more from having a wheel go for forty yard touchdown, right? Exactly saw. When Alvin Kamara gate wasn't wheel rail. But we saw him get out on my Malcolm Jenkins have big game. So you gotta sacrifice something, but it's to prevent the big play. Draw? Later on coming up. How can Amari Cooper dominate the Rams secondary? We'll talk Amari next. I. Divisional playoffs. Kickoff this weekend on FOX tomorrow Zeke mcavoy's take on Todd Gurley and the Rams and then on Sunday, Nick foles and the eagles badly. Drew Brees nece saints. It is all happening this weekend on FOX and Fox Sports app. All right. We're gonna get to the Cowboys Rams in a second. But first Celtics and he James Johnson own destroying kyri with the Tomahawk James Johnson has roundhouse kick the basketball out of bogut sham during the Raymond the backboard, his roundhouse. Yes. He has on video. He's one of the greatest athletes in the league. He's also martial arts expert kyri. You gotta hold that L, man. All right. Clippers would say you're prepared for that island. Niggle Yokich grabs the defensive rebound makes perfect full court pass ahead to Jamal Murray. Kevin love LeBron James typically, that's what we see from them yoke between the best passes..

"Doug Peterson challenge a successful challenge. As the ball is placed now at the four and a half yard line instead of the three and a half where it was originally spotted. So it's second goal from there. It's an eleven play seventy three yard drive ongoing right now for the Dallas Cowboys kept alive by the fake. Punt a third down a short conversion this has been a very efficient workmanlike drive for the Dallas Cowboys that involved a little rolling the dice by Jason Garrett and Jason been under a lot of heat in Dallas for being too conservative traditional. They've been a little different tonight. Second goal the wall in between the four and five yard lines to receivers plus the tight end left to the line. Single wide riders gallop Prescott in the gun with Elliott to his right Prescott. Run a design quarterback. Drawn Prescott dropped by Cox at the four yard line. Fletcher. Cox shrugged off the block and threw him down. Now third goal. People wonder why you know, why do you challenge a play where you might only pick up a yard or yard and a half. And I think that your answer right there. You're inside the five yard line. They're going to run the football. You gotta make more every down. Gallup and Cooper. We'll go to the line Beasley and swam to the right Elliott stays in the Prescott in the gun on third down a goal at the four sway motioning slot right side. Now Prescott along the right hash gets the chestnut. Shotgun snap looking right? Nobody opened looking what pressure. It was Michael Bennett who was blocked behind the Prescott and Prescott backed up. He tripped over Michael Bennett who is happy to oblige by pulling it down for a sack at a field goal unit on for the Cowboys. And I'm surprised they went after the right side of their offense, which put them up against Darby. And Malcolm Jenkins, arguably the two best players along with Fletcher Cox on that defense when.

"Some of your thoughts on the Broncos at two eight six zero four six. Eric says leadership failure. From Elway threw coaching staff through captains, not at all happy with the lack of leadership on all levels of this team. They're being out coaching outclassed on a very consistent basis. I think coach Joseph is in over his head and never has an answer. After the game. He's always got to watch the tape. Let's see. You're absolutely right. Vance Joseph has got to go that is from Matt. Andrew says Vance is to blame. It can't let the team run wild like that. Denver equals bad coaching this from Roger Rockies, equal never finish the season strong. We'll get to the Rockies in a minute. Doug Peterson with the eagles is the anomaly in this world. I mean look at. I was just going back through looking at some of the. Super Bowl champions. You know, just looking at the last few years Doug Peterson like I said is an anomaly, but you go back, and you look. Yup. Bella check. Used to be a head coach somewhere else and failed. Gary kubiak used to be a head coach somewhere else and failed. You have a p Carol you longtime ago but used to be an NFL. Hey, coach somewhere else and failed. I. Somebody. I don't know if Vance Joseph if he were fired from the Broncos that he would ever get another head coaching job. But I would tell you automatically the team that hires him next would get a better version of Vance Joseph 'cause you learn it's hard to learn on the job. And you look at some of the teams that are successful in the NFL over the last few years some of the teams that are routinely near the top of the division their respective divisions. Anyway, a lot of them were head coaches at one point or another, and they got fired, and they kind of did a post mortem on things and said this is what I wasn't good at it's hard to to improve on the fly. It's hard to recognize your faults and fix them. While you're still in the job that you have. Some guys can do it. But Vance Joseph doesn't seem to be a guy that can I I was because I was at the nuggets media today day today up in Denver. I heard a lot of Denver radio today. And I heard one comment from somebody that said does this loss. Take away all the equity that Vance Joseph built-up was like what equity he had no equity. He was given bay. Basically all John Elway said was well, you know, we deserve. He deserves for us to give him a little bit more support. Like, it wasn't a huge vote of confidence. It was like well. We got better at the quarterback position. And we got sure up some things, and it's not that Vance Joseph is great. And we just need to help them out. It just we who are you going to get. That's better. I got from John Elway after season like. We that we add John FOX, Gary kubiak, we advance Joseph. We've had way too many coaches for a franchise that is usually wins quite a bit. There's only been a few times in their history where we have seen two or three years where the Broncos are down. So there is there is no doubt that Vance Joseph is ultimately to blame because when you can't pinpoint it like case keenum's not the guy. We know this case keenum is not the guy. And I'm glad that some people. I I've seen on Twitter are starting to come around. He never was going to be the guy. Speaking of who else are we going to get I tweeted this out yesterday? Look at who the veteran options were this off season. Van. John Elway lied to you. Or misled you Kirk cousins, everything I hear says that Kirk cousins had no interest to come in the Broncos. He was always going to the Vikings. John Elway made it sound like they they chose case over Kirk cousins as true Kirk cousins didn't want come to Denver. Whatever reason. All things being equal. I'd probably want to go to the Vikings to given the situation that they're in the supporting cast. So Kirk cousins was again, come here. The chiefs came out and said publicly that they weren't they were had no interest in trading. Trading. Oh, Alex Smith in in the division. That was never going to happen. Either either you didn't know what Ryan Fitzpatrick was or the buccaneers weren't going to get rid of them because they still had you know, because of the whole stuff with James Winston Sam Bradford. And Theron Taylor have both been replaced by their own teams. Case keenum was really the best guy available. As a veteran QB. So you can complain all you want about the way. Case keenum is played any as a play good. But. The question, and I'll I'll put this out there now and see what kind of response I get back. And then maybe we'll go more in depth on on this tomorrow. But if I told you that you could have Josh Allen or Josh Rosen and a key to leave or you can have case came in Bradley Chubb, who would you choose at this point. Because they got rid of a key to leave. So they could put pay case keenum. And then and I agree with this part for John Elway Josh Allen. Josh Allen wasn't worth the fifth pick in the draft. I would've taken Josh Rosen because I believe a lot in Josh Rosen. And I think we'll start to see now that he is the starter in Arizona now. But given the lack of options for the Denver Broncos. You can make a case that going for veteran quarterback in the off season was the wrong move. But I think it was a move that we all wanted, and we all thought was the best. We said we gotta get in adult in the room. We can't we can't do this stuff. We're Trevor anymore. And Paxton we got we gotta get a veteran quarterback to come in. And case keenum sounds apart. He looks the part. He just doesn't play that way. He's a journeyman backup that had one good year. He's your he's your poster child for you know, guys in their walk year. We see it in baseball the time they hit three twenty when they're about to be paid. And then they regressed back to the main in back who they really are the following season because they earn that paycheck. So a case keenum is. So if I told you have Rosen or Allen take your pick because they were both available. And to keep to lead given the way that the the secondary played yesterday or you could say, you know, what I'd rather have chopper keenum, I know, many people that are going to take chopper, keenum, and keenum. Especially not after the way that Joe Josh Allen played yesterday. I think it was a little fluky. But. I still think maybe going to draft route for quarterback would have been better. But then there's the Dijana do you trust? John Elway making that pick two eight six zero zero four six your thoughts on the Broncos. Are welcome coming up next. I promise I would get to the Rockies, and I will some adjustment of the rotation tonight. And what the impact of the Rockies sweep over the weekend. Could mean for this final seven games that's next here on Xtra sports search..

"If you times, what are your thoughts on the offensive line and how they handled culture pressure today? Yeah, that's something I really want to see the film for for certain things. I do think that Jason Peters is still dealing with. The knock right now and is a little bit rusty since he hasn't played meaningful football in a while. He's just coming back. But some of some of the false starts as has got to be more in tune with the offense there. I think it'll be fine in that overall, though, you worry about the lettuces them because I don't think he's at the level of athlete that he was before the injury last year. And I don't know if that's because of the injury that he's dealing with right now or because of the injury that he that the past major injuries that he's had just sapping his athleticism and his age still adorn effective player. But you do worry about that and it's something attract long-term, the five sacks. What I wanna see from the film is, you know, were they wasn't particularly paying too much attention on it, but were they three step drops that Carson just held onto the ball bit more you no longer than he should have were? Were there open routes in front of him because he did miss some open routes in front of him being a little Russell rusty mentally after those scripted plays like we talked about or were they longer drop. So it was a. Product of, you know, holdings of the ball on some cricketing things where they got a jump set and they feel like they only have to hold that block for a couple seconds and they can work from there as bad as that sounds because you know, you've got Carson behind you. You have to block a little bit differently for Carson because he's going to be all over the place. Maybe he runs his his impression every now and then, but you know, Carson's not gonna change. In that matter. You can't ask them to change. He's always going to be like that. And there's going to be a big discussion around Carson. Does you need to calm down? He's not going to. So we need to stop asking him to. But yeah, you know, overall, like you said in the run game, the offense of line was fine, pass protecting that. Something that I would look into a little bit more and probably be put some clips on the time line and whatnot. But overall thought it was solid. I think they can play better in pass protection though. I will say that, well, let's just finish up the offense talking about just mentioned as Doug Peterson, you know, a lot of talk coming into the week about, you know how much she would miss Frank Reich, or you know whether or not that the, you know what? Frank. Rex absence from being part of the coaches room was having eagles offense. Held the clock for forty and a half minutes in this one, three hundred seventy nine yards scored twenty points, but you know, they didn't have a giant. They didn't have sproles Jeffrey Wallace and a couple of new guys in there. That's that's not bad, you know, and you've got a quarterback who hadn't played since since last December. Certainly not a bad effort there by by Doug Peterson, trying to guide his team through a game that you know, I think a lot of past eagles teams would have lost this game. This is a team. This is a championship team. These are the defending Super Bowl champions into come out and win a game. Like this is the kind of games they won last year that that helped them run their record to thirteen and two before that last game of the year against Dallas that that didn't really count. Let's flip it over to the defense now, Michael. And obviously, the guy we have to talk about first is the guy that Benjamin Sollac obviously would never want us to talk about. I saw about Derek bar net one and a half sacks, including the huge clincher on fourth goal with a minute nineteen left from the eagles for Doug Peterson said, after the game, you can see the kid getting better every week. We've all been waiting for it, Michael..

"With Amy Lawrence. Doug Peterson citing the play of the old line and the D line, and you can definitely tell especially the later the game. God the more that the eagles lines had the advantage had the upper hand certainly the falcons had a bunch of guys who were dealing with cramps. Dehydration. They had different guys. Go down on the field and need to be attended to. It seemed like the eagles handled the humidity a lot better. Now, it wasn't nearly as hot one that rain came through before the game. But the humidity was still extremely thick. And so that humidity, then tends to lead to dehydration and cramping. And it's weird. Right. Because the falcons played an extremely humid climate in Atlanta, but they seem to have trouble with it. And they seem to wear out. So toward the end of the game, including that last goal line stand there that you hear with Merrill Reese on the eagles. Radio network. By that point, the falcons ofensive line was getting manhandled and on the eagles. Touchdown drive prior to the falcons last possession. It also looked like the falcons defense was gassed. Both of those things were true. And part of that is week one part of it's the weather conditions. It's you know, it's just being on the road and everything else that goes into it. So it's it's one game. But certainly there's plenty to address on the tape for both the falcons and eagles. I mean, let's be honest. The eagles offense was nothing to to pack up into bottle up and use again other than j J. He got running in in the second half. He really found some lanes. Certainly the Phillies special was fun to try it out there again a fitting tribute to the Super Bowl, Wayne. But also a nice tip of the cap to Nick foles who was the MVP of that championship. And they didn't do a lot great on offense either. So they've set the bar low to be sure eight five five two one two four two two.

"And so a lot of part of the problem is you have coaches who won't take that guy and play to a strength because we play this way. This is my system, and so you know, that's part of the issue. If you have Nick foles, you better do things in a way that maximize all the stuff that he's good at and minimize the stuff that he's not. And I think that's what what McVeigh is done with Gough, which is why it's hard to tell exactly how good he is yet. It, you know that said, you know, there is a limit as to what Nick foles can do. And if you need him to do that over the course of a whole season or. A whole playoffs or something you're probably gonna run into Trump. I think it'll be interesting to see what happens with just do. I have to have one of these guys and the other part that Doug Peterson changed not just Nick foles, but they went for it. They literally, you hear coaches talk about this all the time and not just improve, but that we're gonna play the win. Yes, very few Boorda's would have been in the Super Bowl and they Radley. You said this yesterday, Gus rally, not chicken. Now, had he played to win that game. They beat the patriots. They go to the site and now you have a formula, the formulas been there. There's always the exception to the rule me the form of the us for dirt, Vicki to win a title is not the same one that ever multiple stars and whatever. So you know, Jacksonville would've gotten the Super Bowl with a great defense, a rock-solid running game, adequate quarterback play, and you know some better than advertised guys on the outside and whatever. And you know the, the ravens won with Trent Dilfer because they had one of the greatest d. Offenses that same. You can do it if you are exceptional at other things. This is the this is the question though. I wonder if that isn't changing. I think that you don't have to have that bucks defense or that ravens defense or that big Jim. Jim McMahon is another one because we know his name and he was a colorful portion. He wouldn't very good quarterback. No, not Walter Payton date yet Walter Payton, and they had the forty six defense that was just crushing people. I don't know if you need to have. I think what you need to have is you need to have a guy, and this is perhaps this is me finding reasons to think that Sean McVeigh's the greatest coach folks. I think he is is I need a guy that is like you just described flexible enough to say, this isn't what I do, and all of you that are coming in here need to do what I do. I what my genius is would do you do? Okay. Got it. Now here's how we're gonna use that and being able to turn that into winning form Sean McVay. Does that Doug Peterson, like Bill Bill bell, check the venture. Don't play in the same way every year. They don't play same week to week. They change on a weekly basis depending on what's working, what's not, which is why, like for three weeks, Kevin Faulk is like the greatest player in the doesn't touch the ball for a month. Yeah. And it's frustrating to you. Don't draft patriots running back or that isn't the new folk because you'll get into these places with all of these pieces being good, not great, and you can spread it around a little bit more and you don't have to be so sunk. Let your margin for your margin for error is much smaller, but the margin of success of trying to find Aaron Rodgers. Tom Brady quest office burger is smaller than the margin of error in trying to execute all these. And you also have to have a whole roster that's predicated on the idea of what if we have to change what we're doing and week six. And that's hard like the mentality of that is you have to have the security from the organization Bill Belichick can do it because he knows he's not going to get fired. Sean Payton can do it because he's knows he's not going to get fired. I think..
