"But it's guys who learn, they're willing to learn, they know they're going to take their lumps. And the reason why a talented quarterback has taken high because that team they're going to was not good. Now you have to be the centerpiece to turn that team around. Happen with buffalo and Josh Allen, happen with Joe burrow and Cincinnati. Trevor Lawrence, is it going to happen? I like that Jacksonville is playing Philadelphia this weekend. Doug Peterson, hopefully I could never under or overestimate an eagles fan or that stadium's reaction. I'm hoping that they do give him a round of applause. I'm not asking for standing ovation. Maybe they should do that. But a nice round of applause for Doug Peterson when he comes back. All righty, Marvin, what do you have for me? Has there ever been a quarterback that was a bust on his original team and then he goes somewhere else and you're like, where was this guy when he was with his original team? I can't really think of anybody off the top of my head that was. Jim plunkett was with the Patriots, then went to the Raiders and won a couple of super bowls. I'm sure there's that NFL's littered with those quarterbacks.
Who Should USC Hire as Its Next Coach?
"So i think. Usc should go get a nfl coach. I think name image likeness is going to be a little bit of an avalanche the next decade and these nfl coaches are not control freaks. They've dealt with players getting paid. They're very comfortable with it. They've got owners in the nfl. they're not in the. I have to control everything. Business i said doug peterson to me matt. Nagy if the if the bears fired him anthony lynn. All one playoff games in the nfl. All have a presence If you go. Look at usc miami and ucla three urban universities. If you look at the coaches that are had the most success. Pete carroll john robinson. Usc pro coaches chip kelly. Pro coaches getting it rolling dick for meal. Ucla pro coach. How 'bout miami. Last time they won. Butch davis dennis. Erickson jimmy johnson.
Philadelphia Eagles' Darius Slay Meets With New Coach
"Try to keep his posit possible but coming on philly a lot of negative with the carson wentz situation. Doug peterson gone. new head. Coach has a press conference. That is completely botched. I mean it did not go fantastic. Have you talked to the new head coach. Have you gotten a chance to kind of meet. Maybe new coaches. And how do you feel about the season going in. Feel good man. I met with all the coaches have taught man looking forward to seeing what they could bring to the table. Men helping me. Elevate my game than have must elevate as a as a team so You know. I got high hopes man. They come in there with a lot of energy and You know the first thing. I talked to manage managers base say. Football's will be fine and that's what it's all about having fun. It was a good though. Pretty smooth like the way he was way better than his. That's what i was trying to get to your. I didn't wanna come out. I appreciate getting there. Yeah because if i saw that press conference i'd be looking at that. My i got some questions here now. How this guy nice to know that. It's a smooth compensation football being fun less thinking more athlete takeover. That is really good news for
Carson Wentz would prefer to leave Philadelphia Eagles, but team is not looking to trade him, per report
"This is the saga that we've been covering forever right carson. Wentz coming off terrible year. You know that he got benched. You'll see all the numbers and it was just awful but when they made the choice to fire the coach and bring in frank. Reich's assistant nick serianni. We figured well at the end of that is coming back in philly. Adam schefter yesterday said maybe not so fast wants. Leave the franchise. That's why the trade still employ. This is a real and this was made up and just because he would like to be moved doesn't mean he will be if i had to guess i would guess he is traded. That'd be my guess. Okay at some point this off season but again. they're not just going to train them just. They're not looking to get rid of him. They're not shefty. I shefty speech. The world listens and dan. Orlovsky we've not had you on this yet today. What is your reaction to this idea that it seems at least from the outside like the eagles have probably done just about everything he might have wanted and he still wants out agree with them. Schefter i think carson wentz wants away from philadelphia for a long time. People thought well he wants away. From doug peterson i think he wants to wait from the city. I think he wants away. From the organization. Greenie do speak so loudly. I need not hear what you say. And we live in a time frame and society where it's the easiest time ever to make some form of statement and carson had two opportunities to do that his first head coach in the. Nfl was fired. He had the opportunity to post something on twitter. Post something on instagram. Saying you're my. I said coach ever in the nfl while it didn't work out the way we wanted to for the long run. I'm forever thankful for our time together. Well then we move on and they hire a head coach. Nick serianni another opportunity to make some form of statement some form of. I'm looking forward to the future. New new beginnings fresh start excited to work with you and nothing for those two reasons. I'm sitting back and going carson. Wentz doesn't want to be in philadelphia. Maybe it wasn't as tight to doug peterson and it is tied to the organization and what has transpired over the past couple of weeks past couple of months. I can tell you this. I had a coach call me last week and spend twenty minutes on the phone with me asking about what my thoughts were with carson. Wentz the good and the bad why. It went south this past season because they've got a high level of interest in them and i think two teams. That should be calling our indy in chicago. Both of them have a win. Now defenses and both of them have some form of a tie in the past with carson wentz being frank reich and indian john d. filipo in chicago so i agree with this Shefty i think it's more likely. He gets traded than not.
No Eagles Gig For Josh McDaniels: Philadelphia Reportedly Hires Colts’ OC Nick Sirianni
"Eagles have hired Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Syriani as their next head coach, replacing Doug Peterson. 39 year old spent the last three years in India under head coach Frank Reich was Eagles offensive coordinator for two years prior to taking over the Colts reports say that the other finalist for the Eagles job was offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels of the Patriots on the
Philadelphia's Doug Peterson off Seattle Seahawks Offensive Coordinator List
"There are some interesting NFL and college football coach decisions on tap. It looks like we can scratch former Philadelphia had man Doug Peterson from the Seahawks offensive coordinator candidates list. The Ferndale High School alarm says he's leaning towards taking a year off. Peterson's 2020 season began with him getting covert
Philadelphia Eagles head coaching search tracker
"Cody. Thanks for coming back on. I in the enemy man. How are you. I'm doing great great to be with you. I'm excited to talk some football absolutely and let's jump right in to the eagles. Coaching search here. Because more names get added to this list everyday to say that the eagles have cast a wide net would be understating it a little bit. You tweeted out. And i think it was either yesterday or today but as a recording. This on the fourteenth is was on the thirteenth. You tweeted out a whole list of names. We've got carolina offensive coordinator. Joe brady tennis offensive coordinator arthur smith san francisco defensive coordinator robert soleil tampa bay defensive coordinator. Todd bowles new england linebackers coach. John mayo kansas city quarterbacks coach mike kafka philadelphia assistant head coach do staley oklahoma head coach lincoln riley ohio state head coach ryan day. Cincinnati head. Coach luke fickle and more are coming each and every day and i know among eagles fans. You know we see this as a pretty dysfunctional team right now. We see this as an organization. That doesn't seem to know exactly what they're doing and we're skeptical as to whether or not a a really high profile coach is going to want to come here given the list of names here. Where are you at on this eagles. Coaching search as there really are just getting started right. Now yeah and we saw it just kellen more added today and obviously you know they're going to continue to cast the net and i think just in general. I think there's a little merit to the idea that you know when you compare openings. The eagles aren't A bursting with attraction just because of the situation. I mean Doug peterson clearly. If the reports are to be believed is is kind of worn down from from this run with eagles. And but i honestly don't put too much stock into this idea that they're undesirable because at the end of the day there's thirty two jobs. There's thirty two head. Coaching jobs in the nfl. We see guys in view with with teams like the jets and the jaguars every coaching cycle. Yes they sometimes have high picks so they sometimes have a lot of cap space but at the end of the day. It's nfl fell head coaching job. You can't tell me you know if you're joe brady and you're getting interest from all these teams. I mean you're not going to just not going to turn down the opportunity and so And eventually some of the spots are gonna get filled For me i mean i. I start for the eagles with looking at the offensive side of the ball. I know that's it's a big talking point. Jeffrey lurie with with you know really any eagles fan. That's been under or watching. Jeffey larry hires run. The team I i think really it comes down to are you going for You're gonna have to sacrifice somewhere. Because with somebody like joe brady even kellen moore. You're really banking on them. Being kind of an offensive mastermind and up and coming mastermind as opposed to this Person who's been around the league for years and respected and you know doug peterson even though he didn't have head coaching experience. Jeffrey loria himself talked about that emotional intelligence he talked about. Doug peterson former quarterback. In this league he had time under andy reid and so i. I think it's just a matter of where are they gonna sacrifice. Because if they go with robert. Sal the forty niners you're sacrificing. You might bring in a nice offensive coordinator with them but he may leave here for another head coaching job. And so what do they want. We're gonna find out.

"Fired yesterday and the owner got up there and did a whole bunch of verbal mishmash just put together like a word salad that essentially added up to the following. Doug Peterson is no longer the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles because they chose the quarterback over him. It is that simple. They have hitched their horse to the wagon. Whose name is Carson Wentz. Now I want to make it 100% clear. Don't know that that's the wrong thing to do. Carson Wentz has extraordinary talent. He was drafted number two overall for a reason. He was playing M V P caliber football at one time in his career for a reason. So it's in there. It's in him. He also was supplanted that once but twice by his backups for a reason. Was benched this year for a reason. Refused to talk to the media after the season was a healthy scratch the last game of the season for a reason. And Doug Peters out. See Peterson is out now for I think some variation on the same reason. At the end of the day. Doug Peterson and Carson Wentz could not be on the team again. This was not something that I think if you look at it that way, comes as a surprise. We heard the stories time and again from Schefty and Mort over the last few weeks of the season, Carson Wentz is unhappy. He's unhappy with the way he was benched. He's unhappy with the way it's being dealt with again a healthy scratch the last week of the season. It really probably did come down. You'll never know all of the details. But at the end of the day, it's very hard to look at it not say it basically came down to him or me. Carson wants basically saying, it's either him or me. And while Doug Peterson might actually be better at his job right now, then went is at his They're financially tied to went in ways that would be excruciating to extricate themselves from So in that regard, it's kind of an easy decision that they had to make. Doesn't mean it's the right one. But it's the easy one. So here, then become the questions. Who wants that job? The Eagles become a highly desirable job. The answer. For most of the obvious reasons is no. They're in salary cap. Hell. They have a but terrible aging roster where they're mostly bad in a lot of places they have Comparatively few good young players, and they have a full fledged quarterback controversy on their team. So all of those are reasons you don't want any part of that job. But there's one big reason that people will And that is there's no one more egotistical No. One in my experience in 30 years covering sports no one more egotistical than the football coach. Football coach that looks at Carson Wentz sees all the talent we've talked about, and says, I have the key that unlocks that. I can be the guy who makes wins the player. He clearly has it in him to potentially be I can fix this. He sells that to the owner. That's exactly what the owner wants to hear. So that guy gets hired and away they go. Whether he can actually do it or not, is something we find out. In the future. But in the immediate in the present, what Jeffrey Lurie wants to hear is I love Carson went and I'm the guy who could make him a star. Now, where does that leave jail and hurts nowhere Good. It doesn't leave. Jalen hurts anywhere Good. If he wants to play, this organization is now committed itself to Carson Wentz. So he's going to be their quarterback. All this talk about him going to Indianapolis to be reunited with Frank Reich. Forget it. All of that is done in the game of quarterback musical chairs that is going to go on this offseason. Carson Wentz has his seat. He's sitting in Philly. You're not going anywhere. But Jalen hurts. Leave. Probably. And the reason I say that is because When you walk in there as the coach, do you want to deal? What with what is obviously a quarterback controversy. All of us watching saw Jalen hurts play better with those players, then Carson Wednesday You're probably not doing anyone, including wins any favors. If you keep hurts there. Maybe they trade hurts. So who knows what he gets back for you at this point, I'm really not sure. One way or another. It's clear to me went and Peterson could not coexist. And I'm not sure why. If you made your bet in this case on went that you would keep Jalen hurts. That's the way I look at that situation. The other part of it here is the Doug Peterson part of it. Does. He jumped right back into coaching. I immediately thought he would be a very attractive candidate for the Jets. Everything. I'm hearing from the people who cover this stuff again. I don't have inside sources, but I have access to people who do. Everything I'm hearing from those people is that it is very unlikely. Peterson will actually be the subject of today's green list. A little later, I will name for you, the five greatest NFL coaches or the five greatest second chance NFL coaches in the history of the sport. Coaches who accomplished the most in their second head coaching jobs, because I believe Doug Peterson is an excellent coach. Now he completely mishandled the end of his season. Will never not be critical of that. But you also have to be reasonable. In a world where reason seems to be the first casualties of everything. Let's be reasonable. One bad half does not undo what was otherwise. I think a very good coaching tenure. He made one mistake I hate He also beat Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in a Super Bowl. So you do the math. So he's an excellent football coach, and I think when he decides he wants to get back in, and the people I'm talking to are telling me they're not sure he wants to go right back in. When he does, I think they'll be a job out there for him. One more thing I wanted to mention here. The school The scoop from Schefty Today I saw this on Twitter. One of the names Everyone is continuously referencing is the name Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern football fame, who, by the way, finished top 10 in the country this year, 10th in the final eight people, So congratulations to Fitzy and all those players, But this is a tweet from Schefty. Multiple NFL teams have inquired about Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald. And to date, as of right now, he has not agreed to any of the interviews per source. That's a tweet from schefty. What that means. I know a lot of people who believe Fitzy. He's a Chicago kid. He's from the south suburbs that maybe that's the job he's waiting out. Maybe he's not interested in going to the NFL at all. As I told you yesterday, I don't ask him. Because I would I would not keep it a secret. I will never keep a secret from you. If you're losing me on the radio, I'm gonna tell you what I know. So I told 50. Don't tell me anything. I shouldn't tell everyone, so I'll know when you know What he decides to do. "Doug Peterson has been fired as the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. When it looks like you're not compete at the end of the season, when it seems that you've given up on your team, I just think total failure by this team is he now sort of the sacrificial lamb for a front office, telling him to play that way in the final game. I mean, it was coaching quarterback getting rid of him first, and then figuring out the quarterback position and what to do from there. You know, it's gonna be fascinating Is whoever gets that first interview with Doug Peterson? Maybe it'll be our cell pal Antonio because there are so many things we have to get his quote unquote side of including what happened in that fiasco on that Sunday night game that may have spelled part of his exit. Sal was with us this morning on the program. And simply said there a lot of good job openings around the NFL right now. This eagle job is not one of them. Why would you want this job? You have an expensive an aging roster. Absent a really any game changing talent, with the possible exception of Mile Sanders the to jail ins, rigor and hurts. Totally unproven. Your offensive line is broken in used the league. I 13 offensive line combination 13 offensive line combinations and 2020 You have a GM. Made 100 and $36 million mistaking kept his job. You're in salary cap. Hell, you're handing the new head coach of quarterback controversy? I don't know. Know whether this isn't an attractive job. I realize it's one of 32. Someone wants it and someone will take it, But it's really a tough job to take. Is that all that's a lot of checklist. That's a lot of issues to think about for whoever wants this gig. ESPN NFL analyst Jeff Saturday joins us this morning on the Goodyear hotline brought to you by Good year, helping you discover the road ahead. Goodyear more Driven. Okay, Jeff, What's your opinion on Doug Peterson walking the plank. And what do they do next? He brings it to your real man. And And the truth is, you got to roll into the deal here, right? I mean, they decided Tonto. Take the last game to get position. He kind of You kind of did the the You know the team's dirty work took all the flak for and they get him behind behind closed doors after the meetings and decide he's the one they're gonna they're gonna they're gonna send packing so When you look at this what Sal is saying about the job? It is one of 32. But he's exactly right. But it's gonna have to be one that somebody really wants this job. They really like wins because I think that's going to be the most difficult conversation to have is when you come into interviews, you're going to say Hey, Do you like hers or wits? Better right. And for all, Aziz, well as once played their Super Bowl year, Nick Foles statue is still sitting outside the stadium. All of those things are issues that be discussed from player. I mean from coach's toe. Do you want to coach the player that I sent the other head? Cook's packing for so lot of a lot of questions? Is out. Offensive line conversation is 100% true again. It's one of 32. Somebody's gonna take the gig, but I guarantee it's not gonna be the first job on very many guys list. Jeff, Do you expect Doug Peterson the coach next year, And if so, where, at Do you know it's interesting. I don't think he don't think you'll go to a head coaching gig. I could. I could see him going back. Potentially cheese going back colts, You know, he and Frank Reich and the relationship he has here. You and I both know me. He has relationships all over the NFL, and they kind of get his batteries recharged. Go back in there, you know, have conversation with other coaches about what they're doing, what their offense. What? From a play calling perspective. You know if I'm him and the whole thing with the Eagles, I'm gonna go find a gig where I feel like I could get better as a as a coach, You know, there's gonna be another care sell next year, where six or seven teams looking to replace head coaches. You are Super Bowl winning coach Man three years ago. So to that point, can you get it done? Can you get a locker room to follow you? I think he's answered all those questions. So I do think he'll work as a head coach. Honestly, I don't I don't know There's gonna be a whole lot of people knocking on his door. I mean, most people have already moved along in their progression. I would hesitate, though, a bit because you remember that Josh McDaniels Frank right thing that happened. You know, years ago in India when Justin was pulled out late, and Frank stepped in, he's been great. For Indianapolis. I don't think it has to be. You know the first guy, But maybe if your musical chairs don't line up perfectly for other people, But I do think you'll go back and coach. Let's talk about this weekend's games. You got the Ravens in the Bills, The Bucks and the Saints. Out of those games where you looking most forward to Oh, man. Ravens bills Listen to me. Oh, the youngest quarterbacks in the game ball in right M V p last year, But, you know, M V p candidate player for Josh Allen this year. How good is this going to be? And here's the Here's the greatest part for me. We have them both playing. Their best football and the football. They should be shaped, you know, playing Qi like you think, Lamar. He beat the titans with his legs, right? And he do some good balls. But you saw how lethal he is getting out of the pocket and making those plays happen with his legs. I love that. In my opinion, That is how the Ravens go on and win. For the Bills and Josh Allen, the exact same thing looking he was the leading rusher for his team and a leading passer. So both of these players are going to have to make plays for their team to win and they're both playing as good A football is they have played in their career. I am fired up for it, man. It's gonna be a ton of fun and how defense's Try to adapt to each guy. You know what I mean? Like, you know the Ravens go. Can they stop Josh Allen, pull the ball down and going to make his yard Because he will, can you? No. Can the bills defense limits Lamar Jackson his productivity on the ground and forcing a beating from the pocket. All of those things I think are fired up Buck States for me is the next best and that is Do the buck. Stay true to who they are after this bye week, Right, like after their bye week. A few weeks ago, they have protected time Brady. Whether it's bringing extra offensive lineman in whether it's grunt blocking and play action Ng all those things he has been clean. You seen their offensive numbers soar. Will they stick to that? Because, listen, they have their work cut out force against that Saints offense that Saints defensive line So can they protect Brady? I can't wait to watch that one. Jeff. We've had a couple of people come on our show and say it's time to move on from big Ben. I don't know about you, but you know, it's this was a crazy year. He did have them under fear that one stamp. Are you part of this camp that once the Steelers toe move on from Big Ben Listen, I'm one of those guys. You better get your offensive line, right being like, like we could put everything we want to on Big Ben. But the truth is, their offensive line was poor all year, and I have all kinds of Steelers fans Tweet me and send messages to me about. Hey, there, number one, you know, pass blocking to me. Give it a few of sex. That's because the guys throwing the ball in the second half man that I didn't give you a receiver very long to run out and make a play, right?.

"Doug Peterson has been fired as the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. When it looks like you're not compete at the end of the season, when it seems that you've given up on your team, I just think a total failure by this team. Peterson was 40 to 37 1, in his five seasons included a pair of division titles and the Super Bowl Championship of the Eagles went 4 11 and one this season. All kinds of hiccups at the quarterback position between Carson wins and Jalen Hurts. At the beginning of December, Doug Peterson was asked about his relationship with Philly owner Jeffrey Lori. Relationship is good. We communicate a lot throughout the week. We have our our typical weekly meeting and cover a lot of ground, but that relationship is good. The relationship Doug Peterson had with his owner may not have been as solid as he thought. Peterson fired on Monday. ESPN Sal Paolantonio was in Philly. I think it's a mixture of shock and sadness. This is a sad day in the history of Philadelphia sports, that you would part ways with the first and only coach to bring a Super Bowl title to bring a championship parade. You gotta understand. The Philadelphia Eagles are not just a sport in this town. They are a way of life. And this town suffered through decades and decades without a championship, and Doug Peterson did the best coaching job in franchise history. Laura he lost. His quarterback is starting middle linebacker. His starting left tackle is best special Teams player, and then he went on to beat the dynasty in the Super Bowl. Now, the Peterson's Gone is firing may increase the chances of quarterback Carson Wentz staying in Philly. ESPN insider Adam Schefter still think it's a major question mark heading into the offseason. And I think the first thing we need to know is who is going to be the head coach and had his he feel about the quarterbacks that Philadelphia has still think that there's a part of Carson Wentz that would like to move on and start over no matter what, but again now there are a number of factors that have to be settled before we can get clarity on that particular subject. Clearly with Doug Peterson leaving it doesn't hurt. Carson wins his chances of staying in Philadelphia. Well, you have to see how much those chances are actually helped. And I think a lot of that will be determined by the man that the Eagles higher to succeed Doug Peterson. We'll see where the Eagles go from here, Rise and grind with Keyshawn J will and Zubin much more on the situation in Philadelphia as well as of course. College football National championship, Keyshawn J. Will in June 6 to 10 Eastern time here on ESPN Radio..

"Yes, a meaningless game but valuable playing time on a national stage against an opponent who's trying to win to get in for your quarterback who's supposed to be a part of your future because you took him in the second round. You put that aside to draft who? Jamaar Chase. Congratulations. And if you have that little effect and I made this at the very beginning of the show are very beginning of this segment. I made this statement. You know what team I root for? If you listen to this for any time, I'll tell you this right now. I've seen a lot of top 10 draft picks. You may say the closest thing to the top means the closest thing to a sure thing. I'm a tell you right now. I've seen a lot of top 10 draft picks come through a door. And they have been bungled and they have been messed up. You tell me that it's hard to mess up those draft picks, and I say, Watch him because I've watched those draft picks get messed up. I've watched those guys become bus. I have seen those reports. I have read those texts in the middle of the night of God knows who it God knows where I've seen it. So if you can't tell me that it can't be messed up. I call bs on that because I've seen it with my own eyes. You don't want to see the things I've seen Eagle fan. It's ugly, and it's bad. And if you're that focused on moving from 9 to 6, then you need to fire your general manager because that guy sucks. On the other side for Jalen hurts, Either you wasted last year's draft pick or you've wasted this year's draft pick, because if you were doing it for a quarterback, the jacks have an excuse. The Jets have an excuse. They want quarterbacks. They want their I know that the Jets messed up their draft pick from three years ago. I can't continue to just keep yelling at them about their mess up and ruining of Sam Donald's. They need to move forward. Sam's gonna need to move forward. We're all gonna need to move forward. It's gonna be a fresh start with Justin Fields or God knows what else that they might do it the second overall pick. They did it for a reason. If you're not drafting a quarterback, then why do you pick week 17 to do this? For three picks again. It comes back to Howie Roseman because again, a guy who's been an architect of a Super Bowl franchise. We give him credit for this. Ah, guy who's been an architect of a Super Bowl franchise. You're telling me that you don't trust him enough? Either evaluated quarterback and take it into the draft. Take him in the draft, or that you don't trust him enough to evaluate to take a talent at number nine overall. Him for Jalen hurts. He's either your future or if he's that never was. Then what were you doing? Drafted over the second round last year instead of putting out more talent there on the field for Carson Wentz, and Of course that brings me to Carson Wentz. A bad contract with wasted money. At least you didn't waste time but again, who doesn't come back to either way? This whole thing makes Howie Roseman looked bad. But who was the guy who was embarrassed on national television? I didn't see how he rose Been get castrated on national TV on Sunday night I saw Doug Peterson There was probably a couple of comments here. They're from Cris Collinsworth. But that wasn't what people were paying attention. You I saw Doug Peterson have to stand there on the sidelines and rectify and somehow justify Nate sub felt on the field. You've gone from a great story and Super Bowl champions and another great trophy or I should say another great statue. That represents something wonderful and thank God you have that because I know is a fan of a team that's been hard Scrabble for a lot of people who are blue collar. That means a lot. I don't mean to take that away from you. But what has been done on Sunday and this won't be the memorable part of it. I won't tell this story overall because I will tell the story for eons and eons and eons because it really is. It's it's a drop in the bucket. That's why I'm not mad because I know that this is not the biggest issue in the world. Just a drop. But on one Sunday night you took a Super Bowl winning head coaches had a bad year. Had a bad year. It is that his job brought into question. He had chopped his pills off in front of national television in front of a national audience. I've never seen anything like it. We're in an entertainment weren't an entertainment business in the NFL That was his entertaining is against. I'm not mad. Get it? You didn't insult me. You didn't insult you did to me. You didn't insult the game. I'm not going over. I'm not gonna overdo it. I think you did a stupid move at a stupid time. That's nonsensical. Now, If you take a guy at six overall in the hands of becoming one of the greatest players to ever play whatever position he's gonna play that maybe I would have to walk these comments back then. That's normal because I've had to walk a lot of comments back. But you put your quote You put your head coaches respect in question. And you really walk the NFL over and ugly threshold as well because in the end to I could look at matchups as a coach, and I could say that this guy is good in this spot. That guy's good in that spot and I can massage it a little bit. We have such a thing as load management now, But even before load management, I could massage it. There's guys who shots on the floor don't really work. Guys in certain situations don't really work and I can play them in spots. But it does help out for them. And I can I can massage a scoreboard. I could make sure I could tank without actually. Taking That happens all the time in basketball in the NFL. You pulled your rookie quarterback? Who's supposed to, I guess it's supposed to be your future. For Nate, said Phil. Oh, but he said he was gonna play it before the game. It was a bad idea, then it was a bad idea Real time and it's certainly a bad idea now, But congratulations. You got the six overall pick. Good on.

"You mentioned legislators that are going to have the courage and you're seeing that over the weekend. You saw Ted Cruz out of Texas. Step up to the plate. You're seeing other senators and another representatives in the house. Being bold and courageous. And I think that listen January 6th is gonna be a very interesting time in American history. You know, for history, teachers like myself and for history fans overall, when you start to see government operate the way it is. I think it's time to look forward to and I think it's something that You know, I'm praying and I have a very good feeling. January 6 will be happy. Come the morning, January. 7th John. Um, Look, I am watching this thing as close as anyone. As you probably know. One of my business mentors is Dr Patrick Byrne, forms founder of Overstock dot com. And you know if you follow him on social media, he's the guy funding the team of data scientists that are doing all of this work for Sidney Powell and the president and Rudy Um and I'm talking on daily this guy and he's telling me, John If there's enough brave people, the things that are gonna be exposed. You're not gonna believe and Trump's gonna be the president for four more years, but we need a few more brave people. So I'm telling you, I'm dialed into this thing Big. I'm with you, my friend. I think that there is still a great chance that Donald Trump and his economy will be with us for a least another four years and will keep you up on that. But we don't want to be, you know, crazy, starry eyed dreamers like Oh, yeah, it's definite. A lot of things have to happen. And it sure it sure doesn't look good right now. Um, but, you know, didn't look good for Ohio State going into the Clemson game the other night, But you know, the underdog wins every so often and It didn't look good for It didn't look good for the Washington Redskins last night. Um It looked really bad. At one point they were losing to the lowly Eagles. And then they realized Oh, my God, If we win, we'll get the ninth pick in the draft. But if we lose, we'll get The sixth pick in the draft. Then they started fumbling and intercepted. And some reason they started the third string quarterback. I know you're a Cowboys fan. Giants and boys had a good old fashioned NFC East game yesterday. Yeah, absolutely. I thought it was a good game. As much as everyone's making fun of the NFC East and I love football across the country and hit the NFL. Um But I thought it was a good old fashioned NFC East game. Um, you know, on this day of the Giants won, but they've been taking it on the chin from the Cowboys for awhile, and Doug Peterson. In my view, the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles should be arrested today and I'm not kidding. He should be arrested for throwing a professional football game. Well, John, listen. I've been watching the sports talk shows this morning to see what the feedback has been. And I hear what you're saying. But I think at the end of the day, listen as a cowboy fan, even and we won yesterday. We were still depend on somebody else for our destiny. And at the end of the day Listen, we need to take care of business and we did not. It wasn't just yesterday. It was various games over the season. Same thing for Giants fans. I mean, I get it. You're upset, but listen during the season, Giants lost games. You should have one. Same as us seeing his other ones and listen a theme of the day. You know Washington and the Redskins and Ron Rivera. God bless in what With what he's been through this year in recovering from cancer and everything else. You know what? Hey, it doesn't really bother about Washington within division, but Moving forward. I think that listen, I think teams should play to win. But it seems like Doug Peterson and the Eagles already hated. They might have just incurred a lot more hatred after last night. Well, yeah, right here in giant country, That's for sure. But all right, my brother. We got to leave it there Money Monday. It is and in the leadoff spot every week. Faculty member of Bergen Community College. My good friend, Fernando, you rebate Thank you, brother. Thank you, John. Talk to you soon. All right. Stay tuned with us. We're gonna breathe through his hour to talk about Mark. "Don't let age beach you re find your pride with them. Dr. Yes, Todd. I don't know how you say you got to give him some reps in the fourth quarter. If you're gonna give me some rope, So you want to see what you have with him? Then you gotta have some kind of play, calling to show that you can prove to you what he can do in that situation. The last couple of plays were a joke. They didn't make any effort to get the ball downfield. What's the plan? How you learning about your quarterback? By having someone run a seven yard out pattern? Wait. Are you outraged because I'm outraged. I'm trying to at least match for hours like you're trying to be outraged because I'm out When I watched that I had no problems. What Sal Pal said. And I I didn't think anything was a joke. Because I thought that was ridiculous. You know, integrity, the game. I know all that sounds dramatic, but in the moment, fourth quarter how do you investigate this? Why don't I hold you accountable? That's a tough thing about, but they're for the I know, but it's sanctimony. It just feels so much like, Let me stand up here and lecture you on integrity. Joe Judge has to say that I think if nothing else for his fans and the players to show he's got their back, I think he needs to publicly say that he was pissed off about. No, no, no, no. Take care of your own business, Joe. Don't tell Doug Peterson how to coach his team. He's won a Super Bowl. You've been on a Super Bowl staff. But you can't be saying this about another team. He should just say. We got some things that we did take care of and be better next year and then we don't worry about if Philadelphia beats Washington. We want six games. We got a lot of work to do. I want to thank everybody for all the sacrifices they made. And will be better next year. Yes, it does seem very Bill Bella checking in, though, like T O not Tank, a game for a better pick. Yeah. I mean, like there's there's ever coaching tree that he could have come from where I was like, No, we're gonna play hard every day. Next man up. Let's keep going doing okay? Yeah. Pull Well, I mean, every team doesn't like for two, saying it's just the timing of it. Every team benches a better quarterback for our young quarterback who's promising, you know to have got to start and he was not better than Ryan Fitzpatrick. Remember years ago Case Keenum and Jared Goff case, Keenan was playing well, they bench him for Jericho because that's the future. It was the timing of it. Like you said yesterday. Dan, it's national TV in a competitive game. And to pull it then and if what McClellan was saying, if it was a full announcement that they were gonna do this, he didn't announce who's gonna do it in the fourth quarter. Because that's the coach don't make those announcer So I just took everybody by surprise. In the moment. I was surprised at South Paolantonio speaking for the Philadelphia fan. Now he lives there. He's been there for decades. I just as a Philadelphia fan like, why do I care? Yeah, I think the thing that stuck out yesterday is what seat and said, is that you haven't seen enough. Jalen hurts to remove him from a competitive game. You I would think you'd want to give Jalen hurts every snap you can this season. Because I think what the Eagles have the sixth pick in the draft. Yeah, they're still in play for a high end Quarterback. If Jalen hurts is not their guy. Oh, they can't bring in another quarterback. True, possibly probably can't. They can't. They got hurt they can't handle. How are you going to get Nate said felt playing time. Paulie. That's always been a priority of mine. I love him and I you know, I should be a subtitle. Gotta remember I loved about you. Oh, yeah. You were this sudden felt guy, Mr Sun? Yes. Yes, my club. You know why you didn't need that? You're not learning anything from Jalen hurts because that was a full on exhibition game. The Eagles weren't playing tons of starters. There's nothing to learn in that game. Against this scrubby watching. How could I learn about Nate sudden fell then I do. That's a good point. Yes, Tom to say he's been here four years. He's earned the right to get some reps and that's it. I just can't get past that. I'm not saying you can't play him at all. But that's ridiculous that that's your excuse for putting him in that situation. And those play calls when he has no chance of showing you anything. Yes. It's almost like winning that Super Bowl was the worst thing to happen to the Eagles, because ever since they haven't been able to figure out what the hell to do with quarterbacks, that is it fold it went, I don't know. Is it once again? Not now he's pouting. All right, let's bring in herds, but it went to still pounding. But we're stuck with this monster's contract. And there's the Nate. Sudden felled situation. Yes, of course. Yes, Doug Peterson coach. That's the one Frank right. Who was that? Someone I'm so confused, he said. Well, I think I think Doug Peterson just shine the spotlight on his job status a little. Brighter after all of this. Yes, boy. I just love the NFL. You think like week 17? We're gonna talk about Tom Brady Lady. His team that play out Sir Robert Smith, Cleveland Browns, Aaron and Aaron Rodgers is completely back within the EVP. "Trying to finish here one on Doug Peterson. If there's anything that everybody agrees on That this guy's been an embarrassment to himself. Maybe not necessarily the whole entire league. Just finish your calls here. And then start talking about some of the good teams as we move into wild card weekend, John from Houston, you are CBS Sports radio. What do you thoughts? I tell you first off, I love the show. I'm probably going to be in the minority here. But I kind of understand why he made the move. The Eagles of losing Carson Wentz. This year. They get rid of them. He's gonna be gone. And maybe they're not 100% certain on sold on Jalen hurts. Um And they really is three good pics coming out of the draft this far, cubes that are going to go in the first round. And maybe they're just maybe they just wanted that six picks. So you know, Travis going to Jacksonville and at the sixth spot, you know, you're gonna be able to get one of the top three with Miami have in Houston. And you know they're not going to go for a quarterback. We'll see. I somewhat understand. Yeah, I understand it, too. But you gotta echo there. Sorry, John. Thank you for comin. Words from Houston. Don't think if thinking about another quarterback Doug Peterson knows like this is it? Roseman knows this Is that after you go through all of that to acquire hurts last year and deal what you do, you don't get another quarterback. I would be shocked. Joe's calling from Baltimore, Joseph going ahead. Hey, man, how you doing there? Terrific. What do you think about Peterson? Man, to be honest. I don't think he really, I mean, obviously. He did it wrong. He could have spun his answered differently. Um, me personally, I would have said, Well, I'm not going to keep Jalen hurts in a pointless game and risking injury. I mean, look at what happened. I mean, RG three different cause they had a playoff berth. Look what happened to him. When he plays. Seattle ruined his whole career. You're only one hit away from a career ending injury, but they're playing football. This. This is not if I take the guy out, he's not gonna you know, break a nail These, like just we know it's nonsense. I get your point. When all but I mean It's also a business at the end of the day. So you ruin like you just said they went to all this trouble to acquire hurts last year. Then he gets hurt in the last game of the season, and then you got to go and find a and what if he gets hurt, and they still win the game, Then you get a lower draft pick and you're out of your start to be who you wanted to replace went Sure you're gonna lose lose situation? Sure, I understand it. I'm not disagreeing it just well, everything comes with a risk. I'm not gonna go ast far and thank you. Joe for calling from Baltimore. I'm not going to go AST far to say that it had to do it injury because that is garbage hot trash on a summer August day. That's ridiculous. Well, he had to pretty much say I don't you know, To be honest, I haven't thought about what he would have said. I'm not upset with him saying Okay, let's let's try to take six instead of sit at nine. I understand it. This behind is on the line. You want the lower draft pick? You're in a lose lose situation and you take a risk. You're damned If you do, you're damned if you don't That's just the facts. Richest calling from Michigan Ritual. Your thoughts? Yeah. Good day. Good here. You s O. I want to talk about You know, I'm an Eagles fan. I'm not upset at all about what they Doug Peterson. Did. You know, I mean, It's the end of the season. Our season's over, so whatever he wants to do with some field and hurts and all that it doesn't matter. What matters to me when when I'm so upset about is The Giants and how there's all this negative emotion and you know they're crying so much about No eagles led him down this and now and he will hold on anything. You know all the Giants, anything Washington Anything. Oh, the Cowboys anything If they wanted to get in the playoffs, they should have control their own destiny. It's all of us. Okay, Well, thank you Rich for calling up from Michigan. I agree with you. And I think the New York Giants and what you heard from from their head coach Joe Judge, he was only making a point to rile up his own team and their own fan base. That's it. Same way Doug Peterson was looking out for his behind. That's what Joe Judge did. And that's what he's done all season leave from Pittsburgh going ahead. Eyes they are. Don't worry. I'm great. What do you think about what coach Peterson did last night? You know what? What he did was, you know he did What's good for himself for the organization, So I don't need problem with that. But could you imagine if the betting line was different? And all the Philly people lost? I mean, could you imagine the outcry and that? I mean, you got some crying now, But could you imagine what would have happened if the line was 5.5 instead of 600? Hey, listen, Lee, that is that is a good point. You took it a step further than what I said. If they were actually fans in the building. When you start talking about folks money now you're in a different situation. Lee. That's a very good point. You're on the opposite side. Li are you a Steeler fan? I'm embarrassed Fan believer now, so I've got I've got big problems. You got big problems. What's that? What's that score gonna look like between those saints in the Bears? Oh, my goodness. I'm hoping it's a good game, but I don't see how they compete. The Saints. You know, I don't know. Maybe maybe Mitch Strabinsky has the game of his life. Maybe he gives you six touchdowns. That's what we pray for, right? I mean, that's hopeful thing. You know, back to what we were saying about the anything I remember. It was the money night game with Detroit. And Detroit is winning by two in the line was three there on the one yard line, and they knelt three times the whole Detroit Stadium boot. You know, I hear one That's what that's what they get for rooting for the for the lines. That's what they that's what they get for being financially invested in a Mike. Come on. We should all know better than to have any type of faith in the lines, let alone even even bet anything having to do with that. If I'm gonna bet on anything in regards to the Detroit Lions, it's that they're gonna lose. That's just the fax. That's just the reality. You're listening to the jr support. Brief show here with you on CBS Sports radio. I'm glad that he brought up the saints and the Bears were gonna talk about the Saints will talk about the Bears will talk about the Buccaneers. We we saw some amazing things from some amazing players. It wasn't just all doom and gloom. And Eagles embarrassment. When we come back, we'll talk about Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry. We'll talk about the good teams, the teams that are on their way to the playoffs. It's the general sport ratio here on CBS Sports Radio, but right now Some.

"That felt like felt. That's what that's what it felt like if Nate sub Field is not on the Philadelphia Eagles next year, which is out of the NFL exactly if he's not on the team next year, the Doug Peterson he's gotta He's gotta get crap for the rest of his life. You know what I mean? It was ridiculous. That is a ridiculous take. That is an utterly ridiculous and ignorant. And you believe me to go on. Believe me, because I say it take not because of what you know, but believe me because of what I'm telling you Take that's what that was. I'm playing to win the game, and Nate Summerfield deserved the play. No, he doesn't. He's not an NFL caliber quarterback. He's an NFL caliber back up. Which means you should back up when you have a guy you draft in the second round who had been bawling for you the last three weeks after your bench the guy because you ruined him and screwed him up, and now he's asking me to be out. You play that kid. You don't play mate Son Film. That's the problem, Beatty and we've said this for the last couple of weeks with Doug Peterson. He's talking like we like we're idiots like we like. We don't know what's going on. That's why we've called him out a lot. You have to call them out because it's nonsense. And Phillies a big market. It's a media market. You getting away with it just by saying, You know what? We're gonna do what we're gonna do. And you guys can't say anything about it will be a one day story isn't gonna be a one day story Doug Peterson because you're undermining the integrity of the game. And that's you Can't do that with not especially when he's only 16 of them. What a mess. So you know in summation, Giant fans get over it. Last night's one thing you know it's wrong. The edges are jagged. We get it. You had an emotional game up and down with the Cowboys. You come back. You win. You know, you got a puncher's chance More than that. But 17 14 30 to win the game last night. You thinking about hosting Tom Brady, who you could've beat there earlier in the street. I get it. And by the way, Joe Judge Your future is bright. That is undeniable. I love the new Giants culture because it's beginning to represent the old Giants culture. But stop with the stupid tweets grow up. Last night was one thing today, something else so those of the two different aspects what the giant fans are saying about what Doug Peterson did, which is at the end of the day means nothing. And you know what Doug Peterson did to Jalen hurts, Which to me is really the only thing that matters it really It was an abomination. He's got a gun. You know one thing. I'm happy. I'm happy. The Eagles aren't firing him because I'm I was fearful because where Joe Douglas come from came from filling and I'm saying if they fired Doug Peterson Douglas Gonna go higher this plan because this is not the kind that I want to say from Adam Gates. Yeah, Way. The last word one more year For the last word on this, Bt is the one thing that Doug Peterson now has to worry about. And this is this is just trickling out. I don't know if it's gonna gain any steam, but Not just us from the outside and media, Giants fans and everyone else. His players are pissed off about this, And if this is something that loses him a locker room that's again it's on him. You know what else to blame but himself. Nothing else matters. You're right. That is that's the ultimate point. What the guy's wearing the green and white and black and they got a little other. Do you know whatever uniform call, you know, they have different before. You know what I mean? Whatever they were thinking. All right, coming up. I'll.
Philadelphia Eagles Moved Up 3 Spots In The Draft
"Did the Eagles do what they intended to do last night? They moved up three spots in the draft, and their head coach Doug Peterson, after the game, said that he was coaching to win. Yes, I was coaching and went to win. Yes, that was my decision solely. Nate has obviously been here for four years. He deserved an opportunity to get some to get some snaps. And if there's anything out there that thinks that I was Not trying to win the game. Urges out there, Brandon Grams out there. Dary slaves out there. You know all our top guys. They're still on the field at the end. So we were We were gonna win the

"Hung those lines, but Let me tell you one thing, Um Doug Peterson. Hot in Detroit thing If you think about it, I'm going to give you this all right? And when Joe and When Jalen hurts, all right, was in Alabama. His rate was his first been here. 2016 1 39.1 2017 1 50 point to 2018. 1 96. 0.7 that was that Alabama and that's when he basically got cut. Then he went to Oklahoma. 12 1 91.2. So I understand how people are going to say that. Oh, yeah, that we want a draft pick there was only three draft picks. It's only like two or three picks. Or whatever. And maybe there's a rivalry or whatever, but there's but there's nothing there there. If you actually look at it, I mean So what? He wondered. So what Peterson wonder do it. Keep in mind we had Andy Reid. And Andy Reid made what for? Um, And if the conference championship games, that's right. And what and what? What did he do? Got him the one Super Bowl and lost their Patriots, right? Yep. What? What is that? Peterson dough Doug Peterson got a world championship. The 1st 60 exactly. That is my question to these people that keep calling up here about everything about About Doug Peterson. They don't have the facts. They don't have anything else. One The defense of coordinator should retire. He's terrible. Nobody has ever won a Super Bowl, allowing 50 points or whatever they are 500 yards. In their life, But still, we won. The Philadelphia Eagles won that Super Bowl actually beat him pretty bad. And that was on Nick Foles there. We want to talk about Nick Bowls in Carson Wentz. Course once is this and that I have one question. Ask you and asked, Tell me if I'm crazy. Jacksonville is the number one pick, right? Yes. What would you do about this? If Philadelphia and now has the number five pick. No, no, no, no, Eric! No, No, no, no, no, no. No, no, I know where you're no. Jacksonville is not trading.
Jalen Hurts inspires Eagles to victory in first NFL start
"At least for one week philadelphia. Eagles fans can feel confident with the caliber of play. They got from the quarterback position and jalen hurts leading philadelphia to the outright upset as an eight point. Underdog against the seemingly unbeatable new orleans saints. The eagles offense showed a little bit of a pulse and the saints defense was nowhere to be found in the first thirty minutes where they surrendered more than three hundred yards. It's kyle shanahan could've done his job. The eagles would have been or would be right in the thickens. Visger that divisions a mess. I mean every time you want to give them credit for making strides ford. They they pull you back in and like you said kyle shanahan and company allowing washington to get the improbable win. But i digress silly. Despite the washington win increase their playoff chances by about seven or eight percent. So there's still a fighting chance you mentioned this game and that's what it came down to is getting out to a quick start. Philadelphia thought for the first thirty minutes. Did a really good job. And they control the trenches. Which is a little shocking. Because you had this. Eagles offensive line that was was really depleted. You've lost peter's as well in that's against one of the more talented defensive front fours in the nfl. The new orleans saints miles sanders woke up and decided to contribute. You'll get the eagles offense. Ten point four yards per russian. At first half fifty percent rushing success rate for explosive runs all in the first half. Doug peterson game plan to me was was pretty good. The script resolved the playcalling was decent in. the eagles. did enough in the first half to hang on for dear life in the second. Come away with that win. And and keep themselves alive defensively. I thought before what feels like every single starter for the eagles left the game in the second half. Billy did a nice job defensively in that first. Thirty minutes stanzas. Well three point six yards per play allowed thirty three percent success rate allow tastes. Him only ran at twice in the first half. He was semi accurate throwing it. What it was just really short. Four point three yards per attempt in that first half so across the board that might have been the eagles best half football. This season they were. They were fantastic in. It was certainly against a team that had more talent. It just looked like philadelphia. Wanted it more along. The lines of scrimmages

Philadelphia Eagles to start Jalen Hurts at QB over Carson Wentz
"Jalen hurts time in philadelphia and jalen hurts will make his first. Nfl start sunday against the new orleans. Saints so welcome to the league young man you go against a really good carson wentz back up her and while this seems crazy to all of us it's also kind of crazy to doug peterson i don't take carson wentz out of it. I didn't expect us to be in this situation back in april. So let's just start there. Listen everybody around jalen or around. Carson has to has to elevate their game. We can't do this. They can't do this alone right. They can't they can't do that. It's impossible to to attack. You know an opponent would just one guy so But i fully expect our guys. I play hard and do everything they can to try and win along perfectly clear here what's become crazy about. This is not the way that all of this went down because it became very obvious that a quarterback change needed to be made. But just the fact that here we are in twenty twenty and we'll probably see tastes hill against jalen hurts in this game i key. Let's start with you. What do you think of the eagles finally making this new well. It's about time. I think we you know a lot of the media around and been talking about this for weeks on of weeks but as they say better late than never and i think it's jalen hurts his job to lose and i'm talking about long term. I think when you look at the situation. And i've been around a lot of quarterbacks in my time in organizations and when you say here's a guy who has a opportunity on a two to three games sample that he could take this job and make it his own. He cannot be coursing wins. What i mean by that is he cannot play like carson with. He has to play like the jalen hurts. That was drafted in top fifteen picks in the national football league. That guy that we saw at oklahoma the guy that we saw a brief time in alabama. If he does that and he can ignite this offense. Then it's his job to lose. Come next off season. I think the philadelphia eagles are looking for the same things. I think when you look at it they say okay. If jalen does what he's supposed to do we go into the offseason with a quarterback battle. Ota's as many camp training camp. Give the up to carson wentz. Because that's what we're gonna do because you follow the money and then you put carson carson wentz carson jalen carson with a short lease. You say you got two to three games to prove yourself and if not we go snatch twenty one is hurts. His team were done which it. That is the way you do it.
What Is Wrong With Carson Wentz:
"Philly eagles and seahawks and birds and other birds only one type heading south carson wentz again trying to prove a starter status again coming up short another interception adding to his league-leading totally was also six. Times is back backup. Jalen hurts saw just to blaze last night. We'll have much more on him in just a second but first eagles get the win. Here's carson winston after last night's loss to seattle. There's been a lot of talk and speculation. You possibly getting benched or something like that. I mean does that way on you at all. Do you think about that at all. And that occurred during the game. Any of that. Come up. i mean. I said that last week you know this is what you sign up for as a quarterback member. Since you're a kid you know you're prepared for for any of those nothing's ever guaranteed and so for me i. I don't think about that though. I just try and go out and be the best player. I can be in practice. Prepare my tail off. Compete my tail off and You know hopefully we can get this thing turned around but I think about those things. I might give it everything i got every time i step on the field. I think i said the eagles went. Obviously the seahawks won there and carson wentz with the barrage of questions about his plane time plane status plane brandon start with you did carson wentz play well enough to keep his starting job moving forward. Well i mean i hell. Mary was nice. i mean how. How often do we see that at all. He but outside of that. Mary no he. He didn't play well. The coaches the coach. Well defense didn't play well enough. This is one of those years. Nick where everybody needs to be on notice when you play like this and miss division everyone should be on notice and then you can go back to last couple years outside of their super bowl. Run it's always been a struggle for this organization. If i'm the owner. I am looking at everything. I'm looking at the general managers there's other gaps. There's other holes on this team is not just carson wentz. it's also the linebacking core and it's not that the linebacking core isn't playing. Well they're just not very good they don't have any debt so with that mind like you gotta talk about. Who's making those decisions. And you got to hold them accountable. So this entire organization. Mic should be on notice at listen. I think might garafolo is the one who reported this morning that he can no longer report. That doug peterson is totally save. Despite being just three years removed from actually winning a super bowl something carson wentz is not able to say. He did what that means for our rose. One of the front office will see. And you're right brandon. This is a team that has a multitude of issues but their biggest issue is this in twenty twenty the worst starting quarterback in football now. That's not a statement of opinion. That's just if according to the numbers we can show them. The worst fulltime starting quarterback in the nfl is carson wentz and the spat back that up one hundred percent. He's thirty fifth worse in everything. And there's only thirty two teams folks and he is a turnover machine he runs into sacks he doesn't make the big throws anymore. There's been one game all year long that he didn't turn the ball over and in that game. He fumbled twice. They just happened to recover them so it does feel however wildlife carson wentz might be the one with the most job security because of the contract. He's been signed to based on performance. You have a twenty eight a guy that's going to be twenty eight this month. He's in year five and he's playing the worst football of his career. That is more than a sign for his future. But do you think that's all of his fault nick. Because morning i wake up. And i make a little menu and i called my my kitchen. Where do my work hot take cafe and on today's menu. Here's what we had. You can make your choice. Everyone you can have bad coaching with a side of bad. Play design you can have bad decision. Making with a side of bad throws you could have bad wide receivers and bad protection. Those your options at the take cafe for me. I want went bad protection. I went with the six acts. We're not his fault. The league leading forty six x also. Not his fault he also had some throwaways there and i was watching the game last night neck and i was like oh the one when he was chased out of the pocket to avoid an intentional grounding. He threw it to the first down. Even though it came up short i was like. Oh that's a. That's a good play. That's a quarterback you can build around. I'm like what what is happening. I'm calling a throw to save even intentional grounding a good play and he could say like. I don't put it on the offensive line. Louis riddick mentioned it last night when they went to the super bowl best offensive line surprise surprise. Takeout carson wentz put. Nick foles doesn't matter to me. It starts with the offensive line. I know there's a lot of side dishes but it's an offensive line thing for me.

"Let's hear from Doug Peterson. He had covert 19 He talked about since he returned to the team Now as he is negative on staying engaged the team while he was recovering from Cove it well, I obviously didn't want to miss any time if I didn't have to, But, you know, I stayed I stayed engaged virtually with the team. I was able to watch the practices. You know, and stay, stay up on on everything that we did and still run the team from, you know, from from my

"But I did chuckle when Jerry reported it and said Doug Peterson test positive for Covert 19 says he's self isolating like like. Imagine it was the opposite. Doug Peterson tested positive for Covert 19 is out looking door handles in public and sneezing on everybody think it's assumed that Peterson just self isolate a better now than in the middle of the season, if they have a season. Right, Right. Absolutely. And it's I'm down about it. I mean their stars. Obviously. Now I mean, CJ Mosley, even though you haven't seen him much as a Jets fan because of his injuries, But I mean, the guy's a star. Someone makes a lot of money You need to see. Stuff like that happened. You see what's going on? Obviously, with the Marlins and the Cardinals now players that are opting out of the NFL, you know, positive test would head coaches. There's just a lot. There's just there's just a lot now. You have the entire month of August. Before you end up playing some games, but As it stands right now we'll see how Major League baseball reacts. All of it. If you have another outbreak with a team and schedule gets so after up, that you're not able to fix it, then I don't know what you do. But right now I just with the NFL. I'm not. I'm not feeling great about it. But these things, it's riding a roller coaster man. That's some days. You feel great about things happen. Like the MBA in the NHL. I couldn't feel better about that. But if you're not going to play in a bubble You're going tohave major major challenges and you can't play the NFL. In a bubble. I don't think that the PGA Tour has done it right there, Not a bubble. I guess in a way they are, but they're they don't have a lot of people interacting with one another. There will be about 2000 people. That will be on the course this week out in San Francisco for the PGA Championship, but they're going to be all spread out there getting high marks for how they have handled this but again. You know, the golfers are basically on their own. You know, they have to take care of themselves. They're not a part of the team and affecting other people unless they're in the locker room, and there You know, talking or interacting with other players in caddies and things of that nature, But they've they've done fine. NASCAR's done fine on that list has had some issues, but for the most part, they're in a bubble is well, I have to say. Both end A and the N H. L know the NHL was so intense over the weekend. I mean every single game and even a game last night between Philadelphia And I'm trying to think who they played. They beat Boston, Philadelphia, Boston. It's a game for seating. In other words, they're in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Now they're just trying to decide one through four, and even that game was intense. Even though Boston didn't play all that well. But I'll just say that the teams that are in these bubbles situations are playing hard man plan on the hockey was unbelievable. Hockey was was fighting and checking and hitting, and you know this is out after four months of doing nothing. They were like full on go. You know, they went from 0 to 60 literally in three weeks. Yeah, I mean, and you even said it with the MBA the way that you knew that they were ready to go. If there was actually some defense being playing exhibition games, which is something that never was seen ever in the N B A. Even when they played defense General free. I prove that this is what I appreciate. You know for the athletes that opt out, they opt out. That's fine. But for the athletes that are behind, I think they recognize two things. One They're getting paid and two You know, they are a big part of our society and almost every athlete you here, you know, Once you get past all the political stuff, they're all saying the same thing. We want to bring normalcy to everyday life as normal as we can make it and like of your Yankee fan Is it not appointment television Now toe watch the New York Yankees. Well, yeah, I mean, and that's what I said. When people are complaining about the 60 game season if your team's playing well I mean, you're right in the thick of things. I mean, it's basically like you're at the end of the season. You're getting ready for the playoffs. You're feeling like everything is happening so quickly. When your team gets off to a three and seven star like the Mets, you feel like it's over. Quite frankly, unless you're some sort of eternal optimist in. It's not over till they're mathematically eliminated. They suck. It's over. They've got so much nonsense going on. I'm telling you, they're going to be better. They are going to be better without cess pit us. I don't know This could be something about a locker room make up, you know, maybe maybe Pete Alonso relax is a little too many injuries in the rotation, their bullpen socks again here, but I'm just saying they played 1/16 season. Can you relax, and there's three indelible one serious 1 16 teams make. In the playoffs. There's a long way together. Not any good. They're just not any good. My God, just games at games, it three or four games where they should have won those games. Can I honestly? Watching the Mets is has gotten to the point now. Where it feels torturers like that's how it feels. Five game winning streak in a right back. Oh, yeah, sure, Okay. Give me a break like that seems capable of that like that's that's what I have. So alright, So it's either you think you're going to win the game, and then the rug gets pulled out from underneath you because you have a bullpen meltdown or you're never in the game like yesterday, Never in the game. His players just you know, left on base. Two guys in inning left on. It was like, you know, after three there was 11 guys left on pace, which was like a like a mathematically impossible. It's just it's not. It's not fly, and I know I know it's not fun. It's not fun watching it, especially when they blow games, especially when they have big leads in games. You know they are hitting. They're just not hitting with men in scoring position. Ah, now I know it's frustrating, but I'm telling you this this assessment is thing. Added a locker room out of it. Managers ear out of everybody's here. That whole thing is going to be better for this team. I'm telling you Yeah. I mean, if you think that locker room chemistry can ideo I don't cure all along chemistry plus a starting rotation last year, By the way, I mean, sorry. Rotation is leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe Stroman is going to be back shortly. Who knows? Is you gonna have another Jacob deGrom. Great performance will go eight innings, two hits, no earned runs, and, you know, then the Mets will blow it something that they won't score 00 into the ninth and the bullpen will come in and the Braves score a couple of runs, and it will be to nothing Atlanta and then let's see three and look what you've turned into..

Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?
"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.

All 12 playoff coaches are tied to Bill Walsh or Parcells
"The head coaches in the playoffs that season come from the coaching. Trees of other Bill Walsh for Bill Parcells Abella check. Anthony Lynn, Sean Payton. All coached under Parcells Jason Garrett and Bill O'Brien are further down the Parcells coaching tape. But they all come from the Bill Parcells coaching tree. And that means the other seven come from the Bill Walsh coaching tree. Andy Reid coached under Mike Holmgren was Walsh disciple. Four others come directly from Andy. That's John Harbaugh. Matt Nagy Doug Peterson and Frank Reich. So as we prepare to watch these games this weekend and throughout these playoffs. There is still the influence of those two legendary preeminent coaches of the eighties. If you will in Walsh and parcels what what thoughts Trump to your mind? When you see that? Look, I know that Bill walls is someone who is highly highly respected by guys like parcels end by guys like Bill Belichick. He's at the very very top of this whole thing. And they as far as situational football's concern, and as far as really just being able to build an entire football federation. He's set the standard everyone else is trying to follow now. And now is it is pretty cool though to watch kinda how bills people have done how Andy Reed's people were doing. I mean, it's it's really neat. Because really there's only so many things you can do in full. There's only so many formations you can come up with and so many defenses you can run then it just comes down to good play styles. Make fights right and Walsh that the west coast against the smashmouth run the ball in play defense style of ourselves. And if you look at it that still holds true today. Most of the Andy Reid disciples over there. Bill walsh. They're going to get the ball out. Quick. Quick eater intermediate passing game highly rhythmic west coast offense. Then you look at the Bill Parcells disciple disciples, we're going to run the football player action shots down the field and had this big physical defenses that try to beat you up and want to make this game playing the phone booth. You've heard me say this on this show that if the guys that are really good the great coaches right now, and the guys that are going to continue to be one of those eight teams looking for aid coach on finding the guy. That's the more Steelers. Parting ways with linebackers coach Joey porter lions jam. Bob quinn. Standing by quarterback Matthew Stafford despite a disappointing has campaign, Patrick Mahomes. Three other chiefs have made the AP all pro team. Joined by teammates, Travis Kelsey tyreek hill and Mitchell Schwartz. The first rookie teammate since one thousand nine hundred sixty five mated colts. Gord quitting Nelson and linebacker. Darius Leonard Chicago also at all pros edge rusher. Khalil Mack joined by Kyle fuller. Eddie Jackson and Tarik Cohen and Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald the only unanimous choice. JJ watt Leuke cly made it for the
Doug Pederson on Eagles loss to Cowboys
"For the eagles. This is a definite step back that much. I can be sure of in Doug Peterson understands there's going to have to be some soul-searching starting with myself all of us. You know, this look at ourselves in the mirror, and are we are we doing enough? Are we given enough each week? It's a strength. I mean, you have to have to strain yourself to make plays. That's just the way this game is and. We didn't do enough of that today. And that's that's the disappointing thing. You know and just just gave up too many too many plays defensively. And then offense didn't execute. Enough. And so that's that's disappointing disappointing thing, but each person each coach each player in that locker room we have to. You have to really look at yourself and decide every day you come to work that you're going to give your best and you're going to do everything you can to get better and help this team win. U.S. Justice Dept meeting with state officials focuses on data privacy
"Top US Justice department officials met this morning with a group of state attorneys general to talk about the tech industry. The Justice department had originally pitched the meeting as a focus on allegations that the social media companies suppress conservative viewpoints. But the conversation went far beyond that two issues that raise the stakes for tech giant's NPR's Alina, so UK is here to tell us more hailing. Hello, hey, so set the scene for me a little bit more. This was a big meeting at the Justice department, and what exactly was the agenda? Right. The gathering was a bipartisan meeting was dubbed a listening session by the department of Justice. There were fourteen states represented whether by attorneys general or their deputies US attorney general Jeff Sessions was there along with his own deputies and originally they did as you mentioned said this meeting up to address accusations from conservative politicians that social media companies allegedly suppressed conservative views, but this meeting ended up being a much broader. Conversation, potentially more significant I spoke with Nebraska attorney general Doug Peterson who ran through a list of his concerns focused on consumer protection transparency. Whether or not data security is adequate what type of representations are being made by internet companies to their users. Do they get through consent? Peterson is Republican from what he and other stole the about this meeting. The talked about a lot of things how tech companies like Facebook and Google collect user data. How they protect it. How antitrust laws might be used to set the right standards for consumer privacy. And whether simply these companies are too big. Okay. So they met they talked about all kinds of stuff to they come up with any concrete plans to act on all this stuff. Right. So Peterson told me that next step is many more state agencies are going to be interested in this topic. The are looking at waste of pursue a multi state action of some sort. We don't know what exactly that might mean. It is very early in the process, for example, Louisiana attorney general Jeff Landry has previously spoken about breaking up. Social media. Behemoth's Landry did not come in today. But I just speak with California. Attorney general have your bizarre who's a democrat. And he says they're turning generals today did talk about historic cases, when the government moved to break up companies such as standard oil, and Microsoft, here's Sara there's a recognition that privacy has a different definition for everyone these days and would does matter is how the law treats privacy. But clearly rarely do you have a discussion of privacy with that. Ultimately having a conversation about antitrust. And of course, antitrust is exactly that question of whether companies are too big. But Sarah said the weren't exactly sure that simply breaking up the company isn't a smaller pieces would resolve all the concerns. For example, those concerns about privacy. And meanwhile, I'm imagining tech companies might have some thoughts on indeed. Well, I'll tell you a few weeks ago people in the tech industry were pretty quick to dismiss this whole meeting as political theater. But now, we're in a different reality. We've got state Agee's from both parties cooperating on much bigger questions. I spoke to gauche who a former policy advisor and Facebook, and he's now a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, and we spoke before this meeting, and he said that just having these prosecutors from all over the country digging around the company's algorithm. Secret sauce was going to be tough for them. If the state Agee's band together with the attorney general and start task really. Difficult incisive questions of these companies and threaten action is the industry doesn't come to the table. And discuss it, then I think that the industry is going to be in a pretty difficult position. And this bipartisan meeting today definitely puts them on notice. Alright NPR's Alina Seljuk filling us in there on all things considered from NPR
