Not the landing per se, but least the takeoff. Where was that? A month ago? Yeah, that was one of the coolest thing about that was watching. We are entering a new era of human space flight, where NASA is no longer the purchaser owner and operator Of all the hardware. We're going to be a customer. And that's what's interesting about Space X from yuan mosque that test the company. This was the first time that a private business had supplied the equipment to go go into space. And so this really does it In some ways, I guess this opens up the the the opportunity for real space travel. And as you know, Sir. Sir Roger. Hogan, drawing a blank on his last name. It couldn't stand up. And, you know, I respect that They didn't want to show them standing up getting out of the capsule because it deals with the inner ear. And being in weightlessness for for two months. Which, of course I have no experience with, but Out of respect for them, you know, they probably would have been very, very wobbly. And so they left on a stretcher. Andi even talkto later about how difficult it was to Ah to just just stand. And it was just I thought it was an amazing feat. However, and wherever you fall in the education system, this is something you don't want to miss. It's different than the normal number we have You used 414203 81 05 Leave Your Name where you're calling from and your question for 14 Two or 3 81 05 Wdm Jacares Tuesday, August 11th. It's powered by watching industries and premier aluminum and sponsored by AC Unit Mortgage Gruber Law offices. How are they on a motive and bread docked in Hagen's seasonal services over the weekend? Well, it was yesterday, actually. We had What many are calling. One of the seminal moments in space exploration over the last decade, certainly, and maybe the pinnacle as the Was a dragon. Is that the name of it? Space? Basics it well, right Dragon. Ultimately right down Dragon returned with a splash landing, thus completing Ah, rather notable. I will admit, notable and successful mission with the private venture Space X pairing with NASA. Something that Started back in May. They were up there for about two months. Both men returned safely. Kind of went old school in the returning A reminded me of all those old the footage from when those old Apollo missions came down to 40. The astronauts signal there. Okay. Never had four minutes later. Those chutes deploy dragon, ultimately slowing down to just 15 miles per hour. Splashing down in the Gulf of Mexico. Welcome back to Planet Earth. Thanks for flying and stay six dragon, avoiding tropical storm in the Atlantic. He was really cool. Seeing those giant parachutes open up. We do have some that sound of the splash. It is a dragon. Lansing was a baby dragon doesn't sell like a fully grown dragon. Pretty remarkable, though, how this was automated. You may recall when this thing took off. Earlier in the summer. Just all everything just it was remarkable. The amount of touch screen technology they had and how this thing just basically flew itself to the station and bag. Yeah, it's Elon musk. His finest hour, I think is that something that people are saying would that be accurate and All right. Self disclosure here. And I mentioned this. Leading up to lift off back in May yesterday. Um I tried to watch some I did for a while, although I was disappointed because I was watching the lead up to splash down. Then I went away and got roped into a replay or we run of the office. You know that I've seen for the 1100 times. Then I came back and they had already landed and had taken the capsule onto the ship. And we're waiting for the two to be allowed out. It was really I guess this was really interesting How they they were testing some of the some of the gas is is that the gas is around. The capsule and making sure that they were at levels. In keeping with human consumption, because that you know when you're going from outer space through the Earth's atmosphere, splashing down there certain remnants of vapors. Can I maybe just describe it that way. That's still hang around the capsule so they would test and test so these two guys They're in the capsule. And they're on the back of this ship. And it seemed like it was like 1/2 hour 45 minutes before they just opened the door and let them out. But they had to wait for those vapor. You know levels as it worked tonight. No idea what I'm talking about here down to an acceptable to an acceptable level. Let's say And I got bored of that and I went back and I came out and I'm like dog. God, I miss them coming out. So they came out on stretchers. The two astronauts Bob Beckett and Doug Hurley. They felt gravity for the first time in 64 days. This is the first American splashed down. In 45 years. The Apollo era based 45 years since we've seen some like this Yeah. And So I try yawning. I am kind of and I'm not meaning to diminish the accomplishment. As I said, when the thing took off in May I just have had a hard time getting jazz for this, um smarter people than I pointing out the significance of this and I I can see the significance of it. But for me personally, it's just I tried, and I couldn't. I think I wish I lived closer to something like this because to be able to see something like this either splashed down, you know, because there's private boats out there are watching it already even see a launch. From Cape Canaveral there like that. It just would be so cool to see that in person from you know, 20 miles away, just they hear it and to see the enormity of it and to realize what humans are able to accomplish, I don't know. I think it's pretty cool. I will say this based on all the experts Wisconsin's afternoon news With John Mercure, Melissa Barclay on News Greg Mets exports Debbie Law, Ziga on the roads and Storm Team four's Brian Daughter and.

"Pretty exciting test pilots Doug Hurley and Bob Duncan splashed down off the coast of Florida in their space. Six Dragon capsule. Um, it's the first time there's been a splashdown in 45 years. And I think this is the very first ever commercially built spacecraft to take someone to orbit and bring them back. And it's going to be a lot cheaper. The Russians air charging. I think $85 million per head. I mean, they're just ripping off and have ripped off the U. S because all they had was the Soyuz. And now it's American. Have you noticed the capsule to inside very roomy? It's like a nice size two bedroom apartment, two bedroom, two bath. Is opposed to one in one And I think the capsule is made to Ah, hold. I'd like to know that 67 astronauts, only two of them. So you four go up in the next one. Yes, there's plenty of room. I don't think way. We've asked me It's not a spacious pardon. I bet when it's at capacity. It's not quite so it looks. It looks pretty roomy. It looks pretty roomy. I mean, they've added a they did a remodel at an extension. Like you putting in, You know another little room, you know, in the back I just slapped it on there. No, they probably had to get it. I'm sure they got a permit. Not if it was that Lake County. It's probably true. All right. There is a UC Davis researcher who is a former Chinese researcher who's been held without bail since July 23rd and the judge says, you get to stay in jail thing..

"Six Splash and means Dragon Endeavour has returned home. NASA astronauts Bob and Doug, half of the space six and as a team's welcome back to Planet Earth, Thanks for flying space six. Ah love. It's so Mac Bradley is a guy that you're probably familiar with. We have a model. We talk about Mardi Gras because he runs more degrading. But he's also an author and an expert on international space policy. In one of the greatest things about this story, Mac as I'm sure, you know. They're basically in a spaceship bobbling around and they were making prank satellite phone calls to whoever they didn't hold up, which astronaut Hurley says That was kind of fun, And they're not joking. They were just kind of having fun with it. And you court you sort of sensed it from Bob Banking. And Hurley kind of going into this whole mission. They were light hearted guys who had a big sense of humor. They were determined to have some fun with this, which which I think is really cool without you know, losing, they're losing their sense of focus on what is inherently a very dangerous profession. So they were able to thread the Neil. That's pretty neat. So there was somebody that tweeted somebody that got a call. I received one of these calls at the flight director console. It started with an opening line like Hi. It's Doug and Bob and we're in the ocean. I think my response was, Uh, yeah, I can. I can see that. So that is also but you know the thing that really struck me. Mac was we haven't and I think it's obvious why There's been so much other stuff going on, but everyone was into this. I was excited about what we talked about it for for many days, but I feel like I haven't heard anything about this mission in the last two months. Right? Right? Of course, you know, in in the last two months, they've travelled about 24 million miles in that time. You know they contributed. I think it was more than 100 hours to the scientific experiments going on on the space station and then with their landing. I mean, this is a really successful test flight. I think a lot. It's it's easy to forget this, wasn't it? This is an experimental spacecraft never been flown by humans before. So getting up there to the space station. That's half the job. Right. But then you have to come back home that he has to work. Everything's gotta work, and it appears as though it all worked. The last time that we had a splash down in this country. I probably watched it as a 10 year old. It was five years ago. Yeah, 1975 right. Right. There's a lot of people for you for the last time we did it. A lot of people, I guess. You know, a good portion generationally people who really don't remember the space program probably had no idea. Maybe that that's how we got some of these guys. So I guess everybody back home, right? Right? Yeah, that's right. And course, this time one of the things that was a little different back then, you know they would send out an aircraft carrier to go get to go get these guys. Uh now, of course, there's a there's a special made recovery. Craft. That's you know, built just for this job that space X has that that went out and got him on day were also able to avoid the hurricane. So they got that going for him, too. So what was the big Is there a big takeaway at this point, or do we have to wait for some of that? Just because, well, science in the experiments? Yeah, it'll be about six weeks. What will happen after this and again? Look, you know, neither one of us works at NASA. So so we know what what the public sees. It certainly appears as though This was a wildly successful test flight. NASA will spend probably the next six weeks or so certifying this spacecraft for flight. If that happens, as expected, Then there will be a first operational mission of the Crew Dragon spacecraft, probably before the end of September, with four astronauts that will go up to the space station. And that'll be the first operational flight. So that will be the next That'll be the next milestone and, you know, going forward. Everybody expect. I guess every a lot of people expected will stop buying seats to the space station from the Russians, which we've been doing at about $90 million seat. Space. Six Uh, Space X version of that is cheaper and about $55 million a seat. But we will have an American astronaut go up on a Russian Soyuz later this year, and I don't think that'll be the end. Of of us getting a ride from the Russians. But we'll be doing a lot more of it on American spacecraft American soil. This is the 1st 1 mark. The 2nd 1 is the spacecraft. It's being built by Boeing called Starliner. And it's scheduled to make it's AH, It's second a NCruz Flight to the station later this year. And then outside of prank phone calls. What's next for Bob and Doug? Your honor. I mean, how can you top this? I don't know. Right? They're going. They're going to have to figure out what to do next. I mean, they'll still I'm I imagine there's they will still be in the crew rotation. For the operational versions of the slight station has a lot more space station's got a lot of life left in it, Um So I imagine they'll be going up there, and they may also be on the short list for Moon and Mars. I think that's pretty cool. Everything turned out well, It's pretty exciting. Bob Bank and Doug Hurley back on the ground back, Bradley always helping us out with the space issues. I appreciate Mack. Thank you. Thanks for having me 3 24 I think I have some time to get into this this piece about This woman who quit MSNBC because I think it's consistent with some of the messaging right now. With the media. And I even praise this guy from Axios. I'm sure I'm sure the guy Swan Johnson Swan from actually isn't exactly a conservative, but I give him credit because we'll have to match it up against the Biden interview, but I think he did ask fair. But tough questions of the president. So here's more along the lines. This is Arianna, peppery MSNBC producer along the lines of what we saw from Barry Weiss and And some others, Andrew Sullivan, as well as he left New York magazine in mid July. So this is what Arianna right, she says. Just quit. That's the advice Alec gave a year and 1/2 ago, when I expressed concerns about my job, you just quit. It's that simple. Stay at MSNBC at least until the midterms, Jeffrey said..

Siri Play Camel X. Welcome back to 52 at the voice of ST Louis. A couple things to 520.2 for next. Our You know, I was coming back on Sunday. I think I was driving back from the airport. I heard The news about Bob Bank and Doug Hurley already being back on the planet after going up in the space six, you know, capsule and being on the space station, and I thought, Wow, that was fast and Mac Bradley is one of our local experts when it comes to international space policy. He also runs Mardi Gras ink and Max. Come back the next day, we'll talk about that big explosion in Beirut. If you haven't seen this thing, I mean, it literally looks like H bomber. A bomb went off and we'll have a little perspective on why it looked that way. And you know the death toll I think sits at 50. I would be shocked. If that doesn't go up considerably and believe it or not, we might have the XFL coming back Kurt Hunsecker. Who is the former president of the Bowel Hawks. Maybe he'll get back into the game is going to join me This after we learned, of course, about some of the Cardinals, including Yadi, and the young that tested positive for the virus will have a lot more on that as we go into the afternoon, John Rooney with us at 4 20 Let's see if we can. I want to squeeze this in just a little bit. Because look, I don't know this guy Jonathan Swan, who is from Axios, but I thought he did a pretty good interview. With Trump and I've said many times. I wish there were more Tim Russert's and, you know, I think First, Wallace does a pretty good job. But look, it's hard to do tough interviews and I think in this particular case if I can get to a couple of bites like Let's do the testing question, because look I always have to be honest with this president. He says. Stupid stuff all the time. A lot of people get a pass on stupid stuff. But I don't give him a complete pass. And then when he gets pressed doesn't end well, So here's this guy from Axios. I thought the interview was pretty good Overall. I watched it earlier today. Here's the testing clip and this one's gone. You know, kind of viral. There are those that say. You contest too much. You do know that. Who says that? Oh, just really manuals. Read the book. Read the books. What books? What? Testing? Let me let me explain. What testing does it shows cases? It shows where there may be cases. Other countries test. You know when they test they test when somebody's sick. That's when they test and I'm not saying they're right or wrong. Nobody has done it like we've done it. We've gotten absolutely no credit for it. Anyway. What happens? That's what manuals. There's no manuals. There's no books. There's there's nowhere because what he does is he pulls things out of his. You know what? He's good at it, too. He's always been good at it. But then when you get challenged It's kind of hard to, you know, explain, and then you move on and you pivot, But I give the guy from axes. I thought overall, it was a pretty fair conversation. And do we have the reporter Mike? See if we can play this bite from the reporter himself because he says, basically wants to get Biden too. Look, I give him credit for doing it on. We have an invitation to Joe Biden. I hope he does the same thing. We're in an election year. And it's important that our leaders are fairly on DH in a tough minded way and straightforward way questioned on important issues, and there were no gotcha questions in this interview. I interviewed him on the top of subjects and You know again, we have the dictation to Joe Biden. I hope he does the same thing. I'll tell you what. Based on that interview, I look forward to it because you can't as an interview went when the first even if it's the president, this is what's important to recognize here. If he says something like that. It's in the man. You guys well. What? What manuals with Let's get specific on the manuals in the books. He thinks that the issue of testing is nuanced. And a lot of you think that the issue of testing his new onset probably is, to a certain extent. I mean, the bottom line is I said this yesterday if we're all being honest, this isn't scientific. We all know more people right now who have the virus? Even if you just single out the Cardinals. We don't know them personally. But, gosh, we know people. Now we relate with people who have this virus to have tested positive. I have numerous people in my life that have you ever tested positive or currently have the virus. I didn't have that in June. I didn't have that in May. I didn't have that in April or March. We have that now, but we also have some good results from some of that as well. So I don't think we need to panic about everything. And even from the pandemic task force, you know where there's been a lot of scare that's going on with some of these numbers. There's some good numbers even from yesterday,.

The United States just said well goodness if we're having fun with it or if a company can make money off of it, we're going to permit that to happen president trump said enough going on the secretary of state added and we are going to fix it and so he will take action in the coming days with respect to a broad array of national security risks that are presented by software that connected to the Chinese Communist Party. Microsoft has emerged as wanting to potentially by all US operations of tiktok accents reports that trump does have a deal on his desk where Microsoft would lead acquisition of the US operations of six talk and Microsoft seems to believe that it's possible that a total separation can happen from tiktok parent company by Dance. It's important for you to understand that presidents normally can't just order a ban on individual companies like this but the fact that Tiktok has a foreign owner allows the Treasury Department to have broad. Authority over it. Now, at this point, it's unclear whether trump is going to allow Microsoft to buy it or if trump is just going to push for an all out ban, we don't know. But what we do know is that this is super weird coming just months before an election six does have one hundred, million US users, and so it is rather strange move it could alienate some I mean granted I don't know if it would make much of a difference, but it just seemed strange. NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Bankin are safely on earth after a historic flight to and from the International Space Station provided by SPACEX Axios says on Saturday afternoon both astronaut splashdown into the Gulf of Mexico after about two forty, eight PM eastern time a space x vessel was able to recover both astronauts from their crew, dragon? Capsule. Hurley in bank in two month mission was the first time that people have been launched into orbit from the United States. The end of the space shuttle. Program in twenty eleven. This new move of partnering for Space Exploration, with private companies can allow NASA to act more of like a buyer instead of a provider of these services now and will free up NASA's budget to focus on things like getting people to the moon and eventually other planets in the future. In fact, NASA and SPACEX already have another trip planned this time for six months with multiple. NASA. Going up to the International Space Station, this will take place around late. September. So be on the lookout. Additional unemployment benefits of six hundred dollars per week expired on Friday July thirty first and reportedly the White House Senate. Republicans and Democrats are all know we're closer to a deal? Apparently, all sides are on board though for another twelve, hundred dollar check like was done with the cares act earlier this year the main point of disagreement is the additional unemployment benefits six hundred dollars extra. A month is what people have been receiving since the cares act was passed Democrats want to continue at that rate while Republicans want to. Bring that down to two hundred additional dollars per week while eventually moving holy to seventy percent of lost wages Republicans additionally wanted to get a one week extension on the six hundred dollars per week of additional benefits passed quickly. But the Democrats are refusing because they think that the Republicans are just GonNa. Use It as just a quick win and move on. But the Democrats are saying that they want a full robust bill. Now, the Democrats have proposed a three trillion dollar deal while the Republicans are looking to pass. A one trillion dollar deal, and as of yesterday junk Schumer the Senate Minority leader said that there were significant divisions remaining but good progress is being made quote. We made good progress. There are lots of things we are still divided on and we're not close to an agreement yet, but we are making good progress and I'm hopeful that we can get to an agreement. Now they're going to resume talks today. Okay. But do not be fooled. The Republicans are trying to place the onus here on Democrats but Democrats came. Up with a bill back in May the bill back in May like I said had a three trillion dollar price tag. It was approved by the House but then has not been voted on in the Senate and Senate Republicans want to have a one trillion dollar bill that does not do nearly enough in my opinion. So but as of right now you know who's GonNa Suffer America, the American people that are unemployed we just had on Thursday. One of the worse GDP records for quarter ever if not the worst. The percentage of GDP lost was close to thirty three percent. I hope we get a deal soon things are super hard to pass in Washington obviously, and I'm glad that the Democrats are sticking their feet in and trying to get this thing passed the Democrats are not perfect and I fear that they're going to cave too much here. But we've got to get something done because there is an eviction crisis looming we need to renew the moratorium on fictions. Now CNBC just posted a study recently that twenty two to fifty nine percent depending on the state that you live in of renters may be facing eviction as a result of the corona virus economic circumstances these numbers are horrifying and I'm sure this isn't the last time you'll be hearing about it. Trump's campaign paused ads over the weekend, which is really weird because they wanted to rebrand their messaging and new ads launching today are going to be depicting Joe Biden as a puppet of the radical left. This comes from two senior campaign officials but the most recent internal polls show that the puppet of the left's attack on Biden is going to resonate with voters and speaking personally in someone who lives in a very heavy trump territory. The this is the talking point that I've heard Oh Biden's not the problem it's. Going to be the VP you have to look out for as if Kamla Harrison. Some sort of crazy radical assuming he chooses someone like her speaking of the VP spot trump's campaign is very interested in that because the quote unquote radical left thing that they're going to be using their ads is a placeholder for whoever Joe Biden ends up picking. By the way, we will learn who Joe Biden is going to pick around on tenth multiple sources have suggested he said now he pushed back his self imposed deadline from. The first week of August to the second week and one source has said that it's going to be August tenth now. So be on the lookout here. No matter who Joe Biden picks. I think that Joe Biden is well-positioned. Of course, we all have to go out and vote that. This is not a matter of that we have to vote even if we live in California or Massachusetts or Oklahoma Even for God's sake, we have to vote for Joe Biden, but it doesn't really matter as much who he picks. Think this go around because trump's campaign is reportedly very upset that Biden doesn't have the unfavorability rating that Hillary Clinton did in two, thousand, sixteen, all of this trump at drama gotta be Biden's campaign to respond Andrew Bates. Director of rapid response said quote the American people know Joe Biden and after seven consecutive months of failed leadership during the worst possible health crisis in generations they know that our nation's capacity to join the rest of the world beating back cove nineteen has been crippled by one overriding burden donald trump. Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina said on Sunday that he believes trump is trying to put a cloud over the election and that he does not plan to leave office. If he loses Clyburn told CNN that the American people had better wake up to trump and he compared trump to Mussalini and said Russian President Vladimir Putin is akin to Hitler further representative Clyburn said quote I don't think he plans to leave the White House. He doesn't plan to have fair unfettered elections I believe that he plans to install. Himself in some kind of emergency way to continue to hold office. Now, all of this is to say everything that Clyburn is saying here means that we have to so overwhelmed the vote that trump cannot cheat. We have to force him out of office because on January twentieth at noon no matter how hard trump tries he will not be the president if we overwhelmed the vote and like Joe. Biden. So that's what we have to do. If you need help getting registered in your state, go to vote Dot

"Podcast we bring in the experts. Scientists engineers astronauts also. Let you know what's going on. In the world of human spaceflight we have nearly twenty years of continuous human presence on the International Space Station. That's nearly twenty years of studying the human body understanding systems and fine-tuning operations for how to conduct human spaceflight missions not to mention the decades of human spaceflight missions and experienced before that a lot has changed over time based on what we've learned a lot of questions have come up that are important to understanding how things will change when traveling to Mars. You might think that's a lot of experience already. So why don't we just go to Mars? It's hard to imagine. Just how hard Mars is. It requires near absolute perfection and any deviation may be a risk to the safety of the humans on board or the success of the mission so the question is are we ready. You can even ask. How ready are we? Luckily we have an organization right here at the NASA Johnson Space Center and all across the agency looking at what we have and what we need to make Mars mission successful Michelle Rucker is a Mars. Integration lead at Johnson Space Center for the Mars Integration Group. A team that spans across all of NASA. She's a thirty-three year veteran of NASA joining in the aftermath of the space shuttle Challenger accident and supporting the investigation by conducting booster material tests and analysis. She has participated in a range of exciting projects such as the International Space Station. Environmental Control and life support systems hyper impact research spacesuit and spacewalking tools space station exercise equipment system engineering and Orion crew exploration vehicle testing and verification. She currently leads. The Mars. Integration Group developing crude Mars mission concepts. She holds two patents and has authored numerous technical publications so on today's podcast. Michelle goes over the details of what we know what we have what we need and how. Nasa's artist program That will establish sustainable. Human presence on the moon will help inform and fine tune the ideal mission structure for a Mars mission. And I hope you like this topic because there's going to be a lot more this month kicks off monthly episodes that are all about a Mars mission. And we'll call it to Mars monthly over the next few months or maybe even the next year we'll dive deep into the various elements. We discussed today with Michelle so here. We go preparing for a human mission to Mars with Michelle Rucker Enjoy County owners have the.
