"That practice is kind of a cold, misty London Day and You know? I've been on situation with. Why the hell am I here? I know and I'm staying on the sidelines, walking, watching that practice, and it was a spirit is a practice as I've ever seen, and the attention to detail that the players had And the enthusiasm they head for. That practice, you know, showed me a lot And then, of course, then there's the last game of the year when when it's over down in Miami, and they come back and make the place and you know and get back in the game. You know, you know just the players when they talk about him, and you know you could talk a lot of this about head coach. But you know when it shows up on the field, that's when you're impressed. Did you have more fun watching that practice in the cold or drinking a beer with me the night before? What I was thinking of you. And of course I know. And I've got to tell you one thing. I'm so impressed with you that you're one of the guys that you know, I got one of our raffle things. And you know whenever the Bangles Payal home game issue, Cedric and Beer down the Holy Grail I did win. I want a trivia contest. Yes, You did. Yes, I will be there for that way. Well, we're going to be a fun time, you know, and the capital background that we had a lot of fundraising events you know, in the spring canceled it, and so I started doing these virtual happy hours. I had LAPD, um And I had dictator on And then I had, you know, N Ba Hall of Famer Daniel's Soul and Doug Flynn from the Reds on and we had a virtual dance party and drew louche who won dancing with the Stars Kind of hosted that for us, and we had a fun time with it. Okay, so you know, it kind of goes through the summer and You know all of a sudden, you know our fundraising events that we have keep getting canceled. So let's bring this back. I had a lot of fun doing with him. And you know when you listen, Toma here they're happy hours, So I started calling him keystone with Kenny life. Well, I called some people and Keystone light is now our spots. So it officially is. Keystone with Kenny. And, you know, Right now we're doing the second and fourth Thursday's of the month and we're starting off this Thursday with, you know, a good friend of mine. You know, one of the best broadcast, you know, in the country, you know Cris Collinsworth. Is going to do with me. So I have Ah, good time doing that. And and then the next one is going to be Johnny bench. Ah, And then the 3rd 1 will be the night of the Hope. Lady. The NFL opens up on Thursday. I've got Archie Manning coming on. And then you know, through the whole thing. We need a little levity. So that's the 4th 1 is going to be a couple of comedian. Friends of my national stand up comics. One guy lives here locally, Josh need the other one is in luxury. Scott Henry. You will have, you know a good time with those and you know, I got some, You know, I mean, I've made a couple of calls, and Jim Nance got back to me, and he's really trying to work out a time that he could come on with me. So he's going to be ah, lot of thunder. I'm going to be an exciting second for Thursday's of the month at five o'clock. Umm I'm Hank when they go so well that the Keystone wants you to do it every week because I have a good time doing. Yeah, I know it's it's awesome. And again this Thursday, five o'clock Ken Anderson Alliance YouTube page, and there's a direct link Ken Anderson alliance dot org's I mentioned at the top, You referenced spring fund raisers that you haven't been ableto have. And I know you you host, especially as we get to the beginning of the football season. So many cool events that where all the money goes to the work that you guys do. For the uninitiated, The Ken Anderson alliance is a foundation that does what We're creating live working, engaged opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. You know, our goal is to build an inclusive community and we've got the property It's played that we've got the approval and now is not the time to go to AA Capital campaign. Good to try to get that done. But we're also you know, the thing that concerns me now is we had over 20 engage programs a month, and that's getting are adults with developmental disabilities out of the community going to a red game going toe a cyclone's game going out at dinner going to the mall? Ah, lot of are engaged opportunities. They went to Ah, other nonprofits to volunteer. What we're seeing those all have to be virtual now. And where, you know, we're noticing a change in the personality of a lot of our inbuilt where they can't get out and be in society like they normally would weigh. Have a non aquaponics venture for work. Pulled them up in the money where we're selling lettuce and you know most but now has to be curbside. You, Khun! Grow up there if you go to our website You grew up on the west side of town on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Pick up the freshest lettuce you're ever gonna have, which is fantastic, by the way, so we're just kind of kind of try to supplement we've lost literally over $200,000 of income from our fundraising events thus far this year. So about the happy hours are some of the ways that we can We can raise money. We're going to have raffle items that you could buy tickets to win on autographed jersey from me or on autograph. "It's it's it's nonsense that he's still getting paid but any financial adviser will tell you any front office guy. We'll tell you the mets got a great deal there to pay it off and installment over the years. That's the way to do it. It would have been worth a lot more if he had been paid lump sum early on and the other thing is all the other thing is indirectly we got David right out of that deal. So I can't complain too much is pretty good. That is pretty good but you know for a guy also by the way Baena twice thirty. Plus thirty. More than one hundred and and and he's getting this isn't saying. Really. It's all right brother. Bry. What are you saying craziest craziest most outrageous mets awful moment. There's something funny. Why? Why? Why are there so many for the mets is so but I would say docket and not showing up for the mets parade because I mean I know he was that a drug dealers apartment right? Just hanging out I think he overslept but he said he was watching this is going to be funny to see. On the thirty for thirty yeah. Recreating this but I mean the fact that just imagine maybe the greatest day in your life, I mean the greatest day is. Probably winning, winning that world series but the next day just being able to celebrate that with millions of fans and New York and you oversleep or you're nervous to even go out and your to your high on drugs but it would be like a I'm trying to find what like a similar situation if you your wedding. It would be like your wedding day but even though the but that's Shitty and boring it's a little bit different but then. You show up, you get the job done on the wedding day but then you skip the honey and Mike that to me, that just does not make any sense I. think it's like Darren missing the Long Island softball banquet at the. Best. Phony Avenue the season. Award for best phony average. I agree. I bet why would look at it like hey, I was celebrating I was getting high. He admitted he was getting high like I did celebrate Eh. I can bring these drugs parade. Can you imagine the backlash I would have gotten if I got a high on a float going down Broadway can't do that. Yeah. No, but that is a bizarre I. I worry about your answer but what is it? Yeah, well. Good to take the field. But before I get to that cell, did did can sign Harry to like those Bobby Bonilla contracts. Maybe like maybe like fifteen years ago, he said look I'm going to pay you twenty thousand dollars. And now he's just paying that off the next twenty years it'd be like a thousand dollars a year to live his us. that. It is. It's like you get paid zero every year until two, thousand, forty five and you can't leave. The craziest met story could have been lenny case eight at the House. That's right. carrying. that. Is. Games. I, what are they? Straight I've taken the field and Sal June Fifteenth Nineteen, seventy seven probably one of the worst days of your life. Of Your Life at that time six year old sow was probably crying his eyes out when the mets traded Tom seaver i. know this doesn't this fits the category to me. It's off the field, right? So it's gotta be one of the worst trades of all time you take your best player ever that your franchise has seen in still to this day Tom Seaver Demetz. Best all time player you trade him for Pat Zachary Doug Flynn Steve Henderson and Dan Norman. Really. The form never amount to anything Steve Henderson the best of all I think he had to eighty over four years with the mets. and Tom seaver excited. I saw him pitch several times as Reggie. Jackson. Once said blind people come to the stadium to hear him pitch and attest to that because. As a kid, my neighbor got had season tickets and a he couldn't go off into my father would take my brother John and I and we would see Tom seaver pitched we will like six or seven years old and maybe the stadium that wasn't too crowded and you could hear that ball come out of his end he was phenomenal as a kid I I might pattern my motion after we might be dragging along the ground right now what a what a pitcher You know who knows I end also Yankee. Fan. But I was always Tom Seaver van. and. really devastating day for the mets they didn't recover for many many years. He made it back to the team, but you're right. He should have been on there. They didn't get a lot for them and that was a weird that wasn't like today that was weird to unload your as your franchise player. Like that for four guys. Doug Flynn though parlay kid didn't he make the softball hall of fame you said these guys. Yeah. That's funny that you say that cell he was supposing excellent salt that was going to mention that I just figured nobody world knew that. Brought up softball. So I figured out. The same. Wow there's so much brother bribe brought up Vince Coleman throwing fireworks at fans though I think that was actually on the field I think David, cone did something nasty. In. The bullpen. I'm going to say mister met getting fired for giving the Middle Finger. What kind of mascot does only in? New York does this happen he gave the middle finger he probably wanted to do with ten thousand times before that but he finally did it was caught on camera unfortunately because everyone videotapes or everyone takes us still of everything and that was that for poor mister met. Maybe we have him on the podcast next week, we'll find out. Does he speak mister met doesn't speak so that won't be a good. Waving at us. Yeah. I'll just wave the finger at US Jim Cunningham. I know you're a Yankee Fan. Do you have a met off-field moment that you care to bring up? There's so many good ones but I gotta agree with brother Bry that. Dot Good and skipping the raid smoke crack and a crack house is. Nothing, better than that. It's pretty good. There's other one. The only other ones I can think of is Lenny I don't WanNa bring it back to me but Lenny Dykstra I getting kicked out of a restaurant because he was screaming at Paul McCartney. That was a big one that doesn't get a lot of publicity. There's one. After a game I I hugged guy and ended up three. I don't even know what happened there. I ended up three rows in front of. The mets beat the mets beat the cubs and the play offs and I show on today one right became one. Daniel Murphy makes a great play ranging to his left to record the last out and I jump into a strangers arms and we went and went and went and ended.

Because this is clearly like sweeping the tri-state it is Joe Borough Jersey Mania that has unfolding the search for the number nine Joe Borough Jersey and who better than the epicenter of it. All the iconic cook sporting goods on Fourth Fourth Street downtown. Let's welcome in Eric. Cook Eric Lance McAlister. How are you? I'm doing great? How're you doing tonight? I am very well and I'm glad you could spend a few minutes. Take take me. Back Joe. Borough was drafted April twenty third. How would you describe the demand for the Joe Borough Jersey since that night? Well to be honest with you. It started about a week before that we were taking pre orders for these and really didn't know what we were getting ourselves into. We ordered a couple of hundred thinking. Well we older too. Many of these are people really going to be buying into this. You know and then you know we we we. We were closed down for a couple of weeks. We opened up last Tuesday morning and it was like Christmas morning. We had twenty boxes or burrow jerseys waiting for us and by Wednesday they were just about all gone bad. Oh Man I think everybody's frame of reference is back to Curson Palmer. D Do you have a rely recollection of anything like this when Carson was drafted. It's not even close. You Know Carson with Heisman Trophy winner first round pick but he wasn't Jodhpur phenomenon. Either I don't really understand it fully but the build up around Joe Burrell compared to Carson Palmer. It's night and day thrill. Media is much much bigger so as you mentioned you are. Now you're open right now. Is that correct? We are yes. We opened our doors. Turn the life back on last Tuesday morning. We have all the faith measures in place by the glass masks are required by anybody coming in so we've been Having walking customers as of last week yeah do you. Do you have the borough jerseys in stock or do you have to order them? At this point. We're still okay if you have if you're three. Xl Or if you're a toddler or a youth size we have those in stock still Every other size he ran out of like I said before. Probably in a day or so We went through a couple of hundred so we actually have more on order. They are telling us at Nike that we should expect him. Hopefully by the middle of June. Or give me an idea of what say for an adult size. Something that I would wear. What is the cost of Joe? Borough JERSEY. There eighty nine ninety nine. There's three different Nike Jerseys. If they make this is the cheaper of the three And Really Nice. He's had a manufacturing issue because of covid nineteen. It had to shut down a lot of their capabilities. Where they make these jerseys so really there only able to do the cheaper one four now. They told us during the season. They should have more. Hopefully knock on wood Capabilities to make all the others. I just checked my twitter feed and I have a question from listener. Only one of my listeners can have this question I will toss it to you. You See. Chris wants to know he has a Curson Palmer Jersey. Can he bring it in? Have you strip the Palmer off in so borough in? Yesterday I had a feeling that might come up. Yes we have done that before. We can certainly do advertising. Get in touch with us You know the of the great things about the bengals. They love recycling numbers you know from Rudy Daunton. The center dent then Jeremy Hill. That might be more of a cost. Effective way of doing the The burgers even buying a new one. Absolutely talking about Joe Borough Jersey Mania. That is unfolding. Were at the epicenter of all of it with Eric. Cook from Cook Sporting goods on Fourth Street downtown. Let me let me switch over to the reds for a second they had built up so much momentum in the offseason with so many signings did that translate into reds fans wanting reds jerseys. This off season you know I have a feeling it would. That's one of the negative things. And of course we have to keep everything perspective with everything going on in the world but we were really looking forward to a bigger red season than we've had in a Lotta years and because we were shut down for a couple of months we haven't seen it You know which is a shame but again I think whenever they start to play ball again. I think there will be that excitement again so I think everybody in the city is open for that question related to the Regin Shogo Akiyama if someone wants to show Jersey does the back have shogo or does it have well. I hope it has ocoee on our current store. Not You can go the other way too. That's beautiful. I love the flexibility. I've also always struck by this and I saw this when I went to your website again today. You guys have been around this true. You guys have been around since eighteen eighty eight. That is correct. Actually myself my cousin Ryan Cutting Kathy. Where the fifth generation? We're all working there now. So we've been around for a while not always telling sporting goods but but you know I think we started with theater. Curtains and things like that and have evolved a bit over the years. Yeah what for those listening. Who who want more about the Borough Jersey WanNa look online? What's your website? Www DOT cook sports dot com Cookie Spelled Funky K. O. C. H. S. P. O. R. T. S. "Final score. Read beat the cubs six three tonight at great American ballpark. Time now for a game recap from the guys that called Marty Brennaman and Doug Flynn Phyllis. Thanks a lifetime. He's six three. Final score tonight is the reds returned home. They break the losing streak and they beat the cubs. Doug Flynn five times now in the first seven games. And this is a radical departure from what we have been used to seeing when these ball clubs hook up the last few years. Yeah. Cubs have had their numbers over the last couple of years, but they're doing it. Now sunny, Greg finally got some runs got a little early lead looked really sharp early in the game struck out five of the first six years that he faced. So anytime you could lead the division leader ahead of you. It is a very good night. Yeah. And another good night for the bullpen. They ended up going three and a third innings. Limiting a Cubbies to only two hits and one run that they scored off David Hernandez, when he relieves Sonny gray in the seventh inning. So from. Pitching perspective. It was a good night all the way around. Yeah. You saw Michael come in and do an exceptional job, but on a night where Amir Garrett wasn't a sharp. He's normally been. So the other gas picked it up for him. And that's what it's going to take to stay in this race is everybody helped when somebody's got an off night. Pick your team made up and from a hitting perspective, Iglesias had a couple of runs batted in without benefit of a basic. But then, again, a couple of youngsters Philip bourbon greeted Mike Montgomery who came off came in the game cold after Cole hamels through one warmup pitch prior to the of the second inning. And then left and then the first pitch Montgomery through Irvine hitting the upper deck in left field for his first Homer. And then, of course, and the fourth inning was a big two run double bind Dixon's L. The kids were doing real well and the old man had four Knox tonight to joy veto on fire on base five straight times with four base hits got that average up about two seventy joy look tonight like the joy that we're used to say. Well, the reg will try to keep it. It going. They've run their home record now to twenty wins and seventeen losses. They win tonight and now they've got the cubs tomorrow and Sunday afternoon. And of course after that a big four game series beginning on Monday night against Milwaukee. And then next Saturday and Sunday a week from tomorrow beginning the two game series that will determine the governor's Cup or the Ohio Cup and they take on the Indians, the final two games before the all star break the reds winter tonight, six to three over the Chicago Cubs. Tommy throw back to you. All right. Thanks Marty reds game recap was brought to you by first financial Bank. We'd go beyond banking by putting you first. I financial Bank member FDIC. "To be a better better dad, and a better broadcaster every day. You know, my mom, and my brother are huge motivating factor. My brother didn't get the chance to play in the major leagues. But I wanted to represent him well enough when I was out there playing and my mom, you know, you talked about that home run earlier, my mom was really one of the people who I thought about when I hit that home run is understanding that, you know, a culmination of my mom being taxi for the first eighteen years of my life, and never, you know, letting me down and supporting me in no matter what I was trying to accomplish. She was always the one that said, yes, let's go do it, and that all kind of culminated when I made contact with that baseball. So my mom my brother, and my family, what is something Jeff that view people know about you that you're really proud of. Man that people don't know about. It's kinda hard living in public life. Now. And everything being exposed that people don't know about me, but it would probably be, you know, the faith, you know, I, I enjoy being a Christian, I enjoy trying to provide some of those values to my kids, and maybe what a lot of people really don't see on a daily basis in my life is that, you know, God is guiding things off the field and out of the broadcast booth. And that's something that, luckily, my family, and I try and enjoy the most that people don't know about was God important to you during your playing days as well. Yes it looking back now. Yes. And that, that seems to be the tendency in trying to walk. The walk is understanding that at times. You don't know what the outcome is gonna be. But he is always going to be there leading you and guiding you and providing. And it's not until now that you really truly understand, at certain moments out, the course of my career that, yes, he was standing there beside me and a lot of my success is based on the fact that I believed and I had faith not only in my ability, but in faith that, you know, my faith would carry me through some of these situations. He had to have been a pretty good tenth man on your team. He was outstanding yet because there were moments in two thousand four in Tampa Bay where I really wondered what my purpose was going to be in life. Jeff. What TV shows are you watching these days? You know, we record blacklist and suits when I'm at home when I'm on the plane actually with so many guys in the Astros. Clubhouse, and obviously across the world watching game of thrones. I fell behind a little bit. So what I've been trying to do on the planes catch up on game of thrones. And currently I am in season. Six episode four so I'm slowly getting to the end of game of thrones. Yeah, I'm the only man on the planet that has never watched one episode. I just wanna know it's trust me. Hey, what are you reading these days? You got a good book on your nightstand. You know what? And I mean the state police. The guy's name is Doug Flynn and the character is Mitch Rapp. He's kind of a CIA special forces guy who kind of goes undercover and just tries to set the world. Right. Kind of espionage spy, government, type stuff. What music do you have on your workout playlist? It's mostly nineties, grunge hair metal from the eighties, and some some heavy metal Metallica chevelle, you know, all the way back to, you know, Alison chains and some of that kind of stuff. No, Michael, blah. Yeah. No, that's unmotivating for me. Hey what's your power snack? What gives you a boost when you really need it the sweet potato for me has been one of the things that if I'm in a crunch, and I can just one of those in the microwave for about four minutes and throw some ground beef over. I can actually the day pretty, well, it's probably one of the more underrated, I think foods out there and probably has a bad stigma about it, but I actually enjoy it. And I love the way it makes me feel after I'm done eating if you had eat at a drive through, what would that drive through me? Well, you know what it would be in and out. No, that's gonna kill. People who listen to this from Houston, Texas, are going to be all over me because of the one burder situation out here. But man in and out for me is worth the drive in..

"Major leaguers. So they're actually twelve twelve drafts in history in which no one made the majors and these are mostly not recent. The most recent is the two thousand seven Astros, but just redone the list seventy five brewers seventy two reds eighty three twins seventy one as eighty three Orioles. Sixty seven Phillies two thousand one reds nineteen Seventy-three reds to us. Seven astros. Nineteen eighty chase nineteen sixty seven angels and nineteen Eighty-one Braves. So twelve times that has happened that. But no one has made the majors. Now, I guess you could adjust it for like the number of first round picks that you had in the draft, which is another data point. That dent sent me here. So all of those drafts that had no one make the majors had one first rounder or in the case of the two thousand seven Astros. No, first rounders. So that's a amid a gating circumstance, I suppose, but it's not that unusual to have one first rounder. So you know, you could look at like the nineteen Ninety-six reds who had to verse Randers, and they only had one make the majors or something like that. But I don't know we don't need to get to cute about this. I think twelve times good to know that has happened that there's been no major leaguer. Let me step in with something here. Joining straddle straddle master six overall pick in seventy three made the majors in nineteen seventy five. And then he was traded by the giants the team that drafted him to the Indians in may of nineteen eighty five. So let's consider and seventy five through nineteen Eighty-four. Decade of China la- master in the majors and as mentioned trait about the giants in nineteen eighty five meeting. Johnny la- master was with the giants for a decade after making the majors trying to master from nineteen seventy five to nineteen Eighty-four was according to fan graphs worth five wins below replacement over about thirty four hundred plate appearances. Now, it's no secret that China master was bad not a good major league infielder. But I'm looking from nineteen seventy five to nineteen Eighty-four giant la-. Master among position players was the fifth worst position player, just by sorting by wins above replacement. Like, it wasn't as bad as Doug Flynn. Doug, Flynn batted four thousand in twenty four times. He was eight wins below replacement easily the worst player in baseball over those ten years. But here's the thing. Doug Flynn played for over that stretch. He played for the reds the Mets the Rangers. And the Expos you can look at Dan Meyer who was also bad. He played for the Tigers. And the Mariners and the as over that stretch of time of all the really. Bad players with horrible wins above replacement marks over those ten years, John it'll mastered was the only one who played for the same team the whole time. So as much as you can say the journal master didn't work out. And maybe he just wasn't as good of the players. The giants thought when they drafted him or or whatever you wanna say the giants never gave up hunt tiny Lemass ter- until their eleventh year of having him be bad in the major leagues and for anyone because this little masters career mostly played out before I was even born but his career high WRC plus was seventy nine career Mark was fifty eight his best season by wins above replacement was zero point eight that was in nineteen seventy he was twenty four years old. I know that the definition of short subdivision is changed over time. But trying to master never good giants. Still stuck with them for that long. So multiple partisan fault here. Yeah..

"Folks. I'm not making this up, and it's still amazes me. You know, eighteen years later to this day. An and it's gonna drive you nuts. If I don't find that the Padres roster, which I'm googling right now. Oh, it's gonna kill you. This is going to drive you nuts. Third base. Big name. It's a big name new Yankees. I know you're hit. That is your hint, right? Yeah. You got you got manage really? Coug Nuttal medals, pregnancies. Yes. Greg Signals. nettles? Eighty four. We're in two thousand eight. I Kevin mcreynolds is on that team. So as hard mellow might see. There. It is. Eighteen years later doing this. Then I'm telling you never never ceases to amaze me, and you're gonna get angry when you go. If you go back and listen to this folks, I'm not kidding. You mummy is going to be angry because he's gonna listen to. How did I miss Craig knows how we're getting older? Now, I know you used to accept that. Right. But maybe my favorite one of all time, the mo- prio Expos how badly too. I miss the Expos. Go ahead. Viral Gary Carter behind Gary Carter behind the plate aisles. Oliver at first base that they had a rotation at second. But I think Doug Flynn UL Washington before he went to the royals had a toothpick on Tim Wallich. Was it was it third bait? Tim wallet was at third break. Third base. You had Ellis found time at Andre Dawson, yet hawkers, Tim Raines and cubby. Yeah. But yeah. But yeah, I understand that that was in his early days when he went going like, you know, thirty thirty type of guy who's stealing bases and hitting for power for the knees. We're big arm. Yeah. Exactly. Steve Rogers with the beard was their starting pitcher, those Expos uniforms to they were sweet back in those days on this, man. I just missed talking ball with you. So. Collar Murray column. Bringing a whole circle. Bring it on the we all we all want to see collar Mary play one just the NFL or in college. But when you have a guy with freakish athletic ability in this insatiable desire as as coach Rollie was talking about not just to win games. But to win every snap. You know, how much that goes to, you know, the multi-sport guy were dads. You don't need to have your kids play. Just one sport. This is the ultimate example. Herb is a not. So were you you were first baseman back in the day. I mean in this day and age this is the ultimate lesson, ma'am. Play multiple sports and look at the insatiable appetite. This young man has to win. Yeah. I mean, he's he's one of the he's one of the more unique athletes, I've covered, and I've covered a ton of of high level athletes, but this guy man, I don't know. I I mean, I know Bo Jack. And you know, you always go back to a Bo Dion won a Heisman. Well, but I'm saying one highs all you got you. And then also had the ability to to play in the Melby. I mean, you're talking like one guy you're talking about when you get it. Collar murray. You're you're talking about a top ten pick in the major league baseball draft. And then over by the way, you gotta you gotta come back over and put the fun go down and you're gonna replace Baker Mayfield. The greatest years we've ever watched in football. And you got to replace that guy and pick up Lincoln Riley offense and try to win some game. Oh, oh what what's night? You're not gonna win some games you're going to you're going to go out there. And and you're gonna win the big twelve and you're gonna oh oh for fine. You're gonna win a Heisman? I mean. I you kidding me. Like and the way he plays like he's he is. He's a hiccup when he pulled the ball down. He takes off. But then he can also show the versatility of sitting in a pocket in reading coverage processing it getting the ball quickly. Just like you watch in the NFL now with with the Rams of the chiefs of these teams that are running that kind of offense. This dude does it there..

"Got it. That's why Mohammed Ali store. I listen, I am very gifted. I've had a great career. And as far as Pete Rose's concerned, I was doing baseball in Montreal for the Expos and nine thousand nine hundred eighty three World Series the Phillies were beaten by the Orioles, which is where I went to work after leaving Los Angeles whereas doing some TV weekend sports. And anyway, I go, and I say I've got to come up with a catchier because I'm in Baltimore just been named sports director the station. I'm going to be doing Orioles pre and post with John Miller who worked on ESPN for years, and I've gotta get a catch here. So Pete Rose's released by the Phillies after that eighty three World Series. And I called Pete. And I say Pete, Jeff, I do a talk show. We'll be doing baseball here in the spring. But I think you can help if you remember the Montreal Expos in the early eighties. They had Andre Dawson, Gary. Carter may rest in peace a great friend Brian does or new well as well. I mean, you just go right down the lineup, Tim Raines, Andre Dawson. Tim Wallich Steve Rogers Jefford news hall of Famer. And anyway, we just keep going down the list. So I call Pete. And he says, okay. This sounds great. I think you can help us with this young team went well, the owner of the radio TV station also owned the Expos Charles Bronfman Seagram's fortune, and he comes out about two weeks later after I've had peed on for two consecutive Wednesday nights. And he says I don't care what Rimmer says, and I might fire him tomorrow. But we are not signing Pete Rose. Well on January the nineteenth. Nineteen Eighty-four they signed Pete Rose to a one year contract. So peak I became very close right into training camp spring training in Florida. He's this was my first look at and it was Gary Carter's thirtieth birthday. And of course, this is before we all knew that Pete had a bit of a gambling addiction. Well, the NC double a college basketball tournaments going on. And Gary's got tables all through his place and all these betting sheets are are on the table here for the NCAA tournament. That's fine. I mean, that's Pete. That was okay with me. So we start the season. And we also had another member of that big red machine from Cincinnati. And you'll remember Doug Flynn was really good second baseman. He couldn't hit. But Flynn was great defensively. Well, Doug Flynn didn't like me because he felt that I was too tough on the team back in nineteen Eighty-three, etc. Yada, yada. And so I. I say to to Pete I said, you know, Flint's gotta sit down and true enough outcomes the newspaper Doug Flynn, says play me or trade me because he's sitting on the bench of Rodney Scott's now beaten out for the second base job so peaked. So Pete comes out on a Thursday night. We're playing the pirates and Flint comes in as a defensive replacement makes two errors in the late innings and the Expos lose that game by score of five four. So after the game Pete Rose comes out and it's headlines in the paper the next day that Rimmer is the most negative guy in baseball. I've ever heard I played in Philadelphia Cincinnati. This guy is a jerk. This is headlines in the paper. You know, the the media just feeding on this. So I go to Pete on Friday, and I do a post game show in the restaurant selling seventy six. So I go to Pete. And I say, Pete, what's all this stuff? He said, oh, I was misquoted who was taken out of context. Well, I'll tell you what I'm gonna do a commentary tonight. I will tape it and play it for you. I will not be this quoted, but this is a bunch of bunk. So six o'clock, I do my commentary my opening monologue and Pete's got the guys in the dressing room listening to radios up and after the game, I do my post game show peak calls the post game show on the producer says Pete Rose is on the line. He wants to go on with you, Jeff. Okay. Put him on. So he says you will mean apology. I've been in baseball. All these years. I built my reputation up with the fans you're trying to destroy it. I say I'm not apologizing. You will meet apology, we go back and forth. He hangs up Saturday with the NBC game of the week. I go in the clubhouse to do my post game stuff after the game. So I walk in. And there's Jim Wolford who's a utility player and Chris fire who later became a bench coach still a bench coach in major league baseball inspire. They've got boxing gloves, and they're yelling PT. Remember, remember, I'm working with this team on buddies Pete Pete rumor, I go over to Pete he's sitting in his club hosts stall he's taken off his cleats, and I say, here's the tape. He says I don't want your tape. Then leaves a few explosives out and throws the tape across the clubhouse room, the next thing. I know he stands up, and he grabs me. Well, I'm not gonna let Pete hit me. I hit the ground. I should've let it hit me. Maybe I would have wound the Expos, and they still might be in baseball. But anyway, he grabs me I had my Montreal my favorite Montreal Canadian sculptured on and rips, the caller scratches be around the neck, I hit the ground. There's bedlam in the clubhouse. Gary Carter comes over throws. Doug Flynn, if this was on video I'd be a millionaire multimillionaire never have to work again. So anyway. The ownership comes out they demand a meeting on Sunday morning. Pete apologizes. Two weeks later, he's released. He calls me. And Pete says I owe you one you said I'm being released. You can be the first with the story. I'm going to Cincinnati as playing manager. This is where all this trouble started with him betting on baseball. And that's the story. Of course, we played in Vegas last year. I went to see Pete he was signing autographs and one of the Vegas hotels. In fact, I can show you the picture we're sitting there right there. And he's telling the story and everybody. This radio.

"Important things like winning visit pay corps dot com. Well, we in half hit a three run Homer in the bottom of the seventh is the reds fall to the cubs tonight at Wrigley field. Final score three two two. And you are listening to the Saint Elizabeth healthcare post game show. I'm Dave Armbruster time to get some final thoughts on tonight's game from the two guys who called it Marty Brennaman and Doug Flynn. Thanks a lot you three two title score. Cubs rally. Doug, tough loss missed opportunities. Good pitcher performance by mad heartbeat tonight. Chance when they put on the board with back to back home runs and runners on second and third and just didn't get it done mardi. We've seen a lot of that all year where they've had chances to have really big innings in a game. Where you're getting a good pitching effort tonight was disorder. Kind of a repeat of what we've seen as I said when Jim Riggleman octa two to take Harvey out after he had retired nine batters. In a row. I'm sure he's got a reason for it. And he thinks a valid reason. I would imagine pitch count would have something to do with that. Because I think he left the game after throwing ninety six pitches. But the bottom line is he had retired nine in the row and in the last couple of innings in which he retired the side in order. There were really no hit hard hit balls off of him. So it was not like he was losing velocity to allow them to get the barrel. Head of the bat. No, I thought his best two innings for the fifth and six I mean, he was dominant those two innings. He got out of a couple of situations early in the game. He had good movement on his ball here. Good location fast ball. I would venture to say Jim Riggleman was going to say it was a pitch count issue or I screwed up. Also, you gotta think about the situation that's been an ongoing problem with this type all year long, and that's missed out on scoring opportunities. They get the back to back homers. Peraza and Bado in the fourth. Then Suarez walks Janette singles, and they both advance on a throwing error a narrow by Kris Bryant and left. So they got him a second and third with nobody out and two runs in and can't score anymore. Well, I think the problem we've seen all year. And I know they're not doing this on purpose. But you gotta make contact situations and strike out because then you don't give yourself a chance put the ball in play the infield play it back, especially the second and third. They're giving you a Rudd. But when you strike out you make nothing to happen. Well, it was one of those nights and look for a longest kind of time like the reds. We're going to come up with a big win against the cops who are trying to wrap up the central and still hold off the second place. Milwaukee Brewers who would appear to be headed toward a win at home tonight against Pittsburgh Pirates again tomorrow, it'll be Cody Radel, John Lester a couple of lefthanders. The reds will turn the page and wipe the slate clean after suffering a tough three two loss to the cubs tonight yet back to you Saint Elizabeth.
