It was a dramatic reversal, but to sum it wasn't. Actually that's surprising because in Georgia, many had long suspected that left Lear's Trump centric campaign did not, in fact completely reflect her Republicanism. Everyone I have talked to who's close to her, says It's not that she said things she didn't believe when it came to policy. But the fundamental challenge for Leffler and her counterpart, Senator David Perdue, was Trump's false claims about voter fraud by tying themselves so closely to the former president. Georgia Senate special election result projected to go to a runoff between Sen. Loeffler and Democrat Warnock

"One of the two races for U. S. Senate in Georgia is going to a runoff as expected. GNN Rob Stadler has more on the race to fill the unexpired term of Republican Johnny Isakson. Democrat Raphael Warnock narrowly beat incumbent Kelly Leffler. But since neither captured a majority, we know that there is going to be a runoff election for the seat. On January, Leffler had to put down a strong challenge from third place finisher and outgoing congressman Doug Collins. He called to concede before endorsing the senator on Twitter. The eyes of the nation will be watching the runoff. We had the best time we've got more fun to come. We got nine weeks of fun to go the outcome on January, 5th will play a key to the balance of the Senate.

Senate Control Still Unclear: 2020

"Come on members of Congress in Georgia, faring pretty well on election night, But there are some new faces goingto Washington from our state as well. First of all in the sixth House District Democrat Lucy McBath, defeating Karen Handel in a rematch between the two in the seventh, which encompasses for Sy thing, Gwinnett County. Caroline Bordeaux, edging Republican Rich McCormick. Now the Democrats who won reelection Sanford Bishop, Hank Johnson and David Scott. Republicans returning to Washington include Buddy Carter, Drew Ferguson, Austin Scott Barry Loudermilk, also Rick Allen and then Jody Hice of the 10th district. No faces in the fifth District Democrat Nike, Mo Williams, easily winning John Lewis's seat. And then, of course, Republican Andrew Clyde victorious and the ninth District in North Georgia, considered the most conservative district in the state. We are still waiting on the result of one of George's US Senate race is the race between David Perdue and John S off remains too close to call. We do know, however, that Republican incumbent Kelly Leffler and Democrat Raphael Warnock will meet in a run off for the other Senate seat. We're not thanking his supporters last night, you for pushing me one step closer. Of the Senate because when I get there you will go with me. Your concerns will go with me. Your issues will go with the runoff for the unexpired term of Senator Johnny Isakson set for January 5th Republican Congressman Doug Collins of Gainesville coming in third in that race.

Democrats are expected to retain control of the House, but there are still races to watch tonight

"At this point, there has been no net change in the balance of the US Senate and to talk about that. We're joined by NPR congressional correspondent Susan Davis. I su Hey, Ari. Let's take a broad look at the Senate map. Tonight. Republicans have held a few key seats. The Democrats are still hoping to win back in some cases, in some cases that has escaped their grasp tonight. What's the landscape is you see it now? Well, I think it looks like the path to the Democrats. Flipping control of the Senate is getting narrower. And now as the night goes on, Republicans holding onto seats in Texas and Kansas and Lindsey Graham winning reelection in South Carolina. These were always sort of reacher Democratic seats, But we were looking to them a signs of, you know, maybe this would be a big blue wave night. I think we're seeing enough results coming in that We do not believe this is going to be a big blue wave night. Certainly not down the ballots, so The path for Democrats to win a majority is just getting more difficult. We're still looking and waiting for results in Arizona, where Democrats expect to flip a seat there, and in Maine, where incumbent Senator Susan Collins has had probably her toughest reelection yet, but again, even with those two seats, that might not be enough to get Democrats where they need to be at also know we've been watching North Carolina really closely all night. Largely seen as a bellwether state for how the Senate would go Republican incumbent Thom Tillis is leading there. The Associated Press has not called the race. But Republicans I'm talking to tonight feel pretty good at their chances of holding on to a Senate majority, albeit with fewer seats and explain why that matters what the difference is between if we imagine that Biden wins the presidency, which we certainly don't know, But what is the difference between A Democratic president with a democratically controlled Congress and a Democratic president with a Republican controlled Congress. Well, I think what's interesting is if Republicans do retain control of the Senate. In some ways, it will be a status quo on Capitol Hill. We're looking at still split control of Congress. Democrats are still heavily favored toe hold their majority in the house. There's no reason to doubt that will happen, so whoever the next president is, but whether it be Donald Trump or Joe Biden They're likely to be facing a divided Congress. And what is the lesson? Bin of the past decade of divided government is that it's a recipe for gridlock and for a confrontation, and if that is the outcome of this election, I think the idea that we're going to see big sweeping legislative change becomes less and less likely, and on the House side. I interviewed Speaker Nancy Pelosi yesterday and she was optimistic about Democrats picking up seats tonight so far. Republicans have won a couple of seats they have and they have, and I think that's one of the things I'm looking at. That suggests that this sort of down ballot activity we're seeing is evidence that we're not going to see a big, dramatic Democratic wave tonight. Democrats still forecast to pick up digits seats in the single digits. But you know forecasters, we're going into the night saying they could pick up a CZ. Many is 15 to 20. That seems really unlikely. And we are seeing Democrats losing in some places to Democratic incumbents have already lost in Florida and South Florida, where the party took a bit of a weapon. Tonight. There's Democrats in New York. Max Rose, who was a freshman Democrat who won in the 2018 Democratic wave in a Staten Island district, a district very friendly to Donald Trump. He's down in the polls right now, but That race hasn't been officially called yet either Bellwether races in Virginia, you know, Republican incumbents have been winning their Arkansas so it is definitely not the terrible night that a lot of house Republicans were braced for. And if anything, I think I hear much more optimism coming from Republican strategist and Democrats at this hour, one race that is getting national attention, not because it was competitive, but because of the person who wanted Marjorie Taylor Greene. Somebody who has Made racist statements supported the conspiracy theory Q and on and is now headed to Congress. She is, and I would also note that in one of the Georgia Senate races tonight, Kelly Leffler Well, we can't say she won the runoff because it hasn't been declared. But her conservative opponent, Doug Collins, could seated the race to her, which means she will be the Republican likely going to a runoff in January, and she courted Marjorie Greens endorsement in the Senate race, and I think that speaks to sort of The influence the rising influence that someone like Marjorie Green and her views have inside the Republican Party to The Associated Press is actually just called the Georgia Senate going to run off with you as you were speaking.

Georgia House panel backs primary before U.S. Senate special election

"A bill goes before a house house committee committee Wednesday Wednesday morning morning that that would would do do away away with with George George a a so so called called jungle jungle primary primary in in November November for for the the U. U. S. S. Senate Senate seat seat now now held held by by Kelly Kelly Leffler Leffler congressman congressman Doug Doug Collins Collins wouldn't answer questions about a potential run for the U. S. Senate while here at the state capitol to eulogize his friend and former seat mate representative Jay Powell it's a reminder that when you come to the public service is often your touch by the ones who actually self or in a public service with each other I think that's what only a thousand I mean time the state house could vote on a bill later this week that would allow our primary for this and other special elections and house speaker David Ralston denies it has anything to do with his friendship with Colin who's just brings us in line with what the vast majority of states are doing

"Coming Collins getting in increases the odds of the Democrats taking back the State House because of all all the resources that will pour into the Senate race that would otherwise go to protecting the house and the Senate this is a good thing for the GOP in Georgia this divides the GOP and Georgia at the very moment needs unity. I don't know if you guys are paying attention to this but the state Republican Party does not have a lot of money in the bank and Leffler was going to be able to help fund the State Party and get the State Party back on its feet and now. She's not going to be able to do that because she's got a protector seat. I don't fault Doug Collins for winning the seat again. He's he's now in the minority the house. He's not in the majority. He's not a committee chairman. The House is not going to go back to the Republicans in two thousand twenty. He would like to go to the what Nancy Pelosi the speaker and I get that I fundamentally get that but I also get an understand that by doing it. This way by working working with the Democrats by working with the speaker and the Democrats to do this. He's making it harder for the GOP to consolidate in Georgia. He's making it harder for conservatives to unite in Georgia. He's making it harder to hold onto the State House in Georgia's making it harder to hold onto the state Senate in Georgia he's making it harder for the GOP to rally in Georgia. He's making it easier for the Democrats unite behind one candidate. He's making it easier for the Democrats to consolidate their message. He's making it easier for the Democrats defining core talking points. He's he's making it easier for the Democrats to get to November. He's making it easier for the Democrats and harder for the Republicans and again I like Doug but this is a mistake. This is a mistake. I understand that he wants it and I understand he's popular and I liked the guy too but this starts a civil war on the Republican public inside and who's actually pulling the strings here. It's not Doug it's the House Democrats and the speaker who hates the governor and there's one more thing you need to consider one one more thing you need to understand. This is a race. The governor has to win. This is a challenge to the governors authority. The governor must win the seat. The governor must win this race. The governor must make sure Kelly Leffler wins. Because if he doesn't then he's going to be a lame duck even though he could potentially serve another term. This is a direct challenge to the speed to to the power of the governor by the Speaker of the House a man who does not have conservative interests at heart and the people who are supporting Doug. Doug should ask themselves. Why is speaker of the House who has shown nothing but unbridled hostility to conservatives trying to do this it has everything to do with dividing conservatives in helping the Democrats and Doug Collins should not be the pawn of the speaker and the Democrats and that's what he's become? The quest for power does do things to people and I would love to see Doug Collins in the Senate but it's a mistake for him to do it this way..

"This has national implications as George Story with huge national implications congressman. Doug Collins is expected to announce he's running for the Senate against Kelly. Leffler today Before you cheer on this we need to have a conversation about this. I think he's making a big mistake here. And I like Congressman Collins Tremendously Disley He's a fine guy. I'm not going to be critical of him. I know he would like to get in the Senate. He's not happy being in the minority in the house He does does think he will be more supportive of the president than Kelly Leffler long-term and maybe he will. She has not done a great job of defining herself yet. She still an unknown known She's got some some campaign fundamentals that need to be worked on. But here's the problem. According to the law in Georgia Win a vacancy opens. And the governor appoint someone to fill that role for the US Senate. There's a what's called the jungle primary or the jungle ballot that is all the Republicans and all the Democrats Pile under the ballot together. The governor picked Kelly Leffler for a number of reasons Kelly Leffler flirt is a self made woman a careerist She is a billionaire in her own right and then married a billionaire She owns an NBA Wmba WNBA team. She owns the New York Stock Exchange with her husband. She has a background in crypto currency She grew up on a farm. She's a self made person and the governor wants to expand the Republican base in Georgia at a time demography in Georgia is changing. She's unquestionably a conservative. She has has raised money for the Republicans here in Georgia number of years. She back Mitt Romney she back. Donald Trump Leffler is in fundamentally conservative though not conservative activist. And she's got money she can spin to help. Keep the State Republican. She has cash cash on hand for her campaign now a sum equivalent to all the money raised by Governor Kemp. To run in two thousand. Eighteen Leffler has on hand now to twenty two million. She gave herself Twenty million. She's got two additional means. She's got twenty two million governor. Kim raised twenty. Two million dollars was to run his race So Collins will have to to raise an exorbitant amount of money but here. Here's here's the thing thing and this is the problem and this is why I think Doug Collins is making a mistake under the existing law in Georgia all the Democrats and Republicans pile and together and the Republican Calculus had been that the Democrats would flood the zone with a bunch of candidates. They wouldn't be able to contain themselves in. It is happening. Ralph warnock warnock is getting in You've got matt. Lieberman is already in a couple of others who are getting in and on top of that. You'll just have Kelly Leffler so the Democrats will divide. Divide their vote. If Leffler gets fifty percent plus one vote she automatically gets back into the Senate she doesn't have to go into a run-off if Leffler makes it to a run off and and a Democrat is able to get enough votes to get her into a runoff then leffler has a bigger war chest than the Democrat in in Republicans tend to do better in runoffs in Georgia than Democrats so the advantage is absolutely to the Republicans in a jungle primary and the Democrats. That's no that the Democrats also know that the speaker of the house is no friend of Brian. Kemp he has now decided to discussed Brian Kemp's adoption reform effort of the state. He has tried to scuttle a number of other. Brian Kemp initiatives now he wants to scuttle The Kelly Leffler pick pick not just scuttling. The Kelly left for big. He also wants to help doug column to was a loyal lieutenant of his house now. The speaker of the house in Georgia's scandal plagued at at this point he's going to be an issue in the campaign in two thousand twenty. The speaker of the House helped a number of of criminal defendants and deny justice to a number victims dragged those cases out for a while advertisements have already been shot by some of the victims That will be used in the general election. I know because I've played audio of these victims and I have heard from several asking me to stop playing the audio Because of this campaign the Democrats want to run in. I've been trying to tell the Republicans this so along comes Doug Collins who wants to run for the Senate who lobbies aggressively for the pick and by the way one of the reasons that Doug Collins did not get picked by governorship. There were two main reasons one. The governor's office felt like they needed someone who could raise a massive amount of money and self fund And and that would be leffler not calling and due to they needed someone who could expand the base That was Kelly Leffler in the suburbs. Not Doug Collins who could bring out the Republican base but could he add to the base Cudi expand the party and they're calculus was that she would have an easier time than him. But there's a third reason as well. The third reason is they did not want to sit a precedent for bullying the governor to get picks and The governor's office felt like there was a bullying campaign by trump supporters and others to make it Doug Collins and it would make the governor look weak and it would make him look like trump lackey if if you went that way when the governor has worked very hard over the last year and a half to show himself to be his own man and that has worked for him he is at above fifty percent in every pull out there on his popularity. The governor hugely popular right now a lot of the people who voted against him in two thousand sixteen or eighteen. or saying they'll vote for him in two thousand twenty two because he's proven to be a conservative but also as man and that matters the diehard trump supporters however Don't like that. The diehard trump supporters want on him to show express fealty to the president. And they're mad at him over the Collins thinks. Oh here's the state of play now. The Democrats Georgia do not WanNa jungle primary. The Democrats in Georgia want to rewrite the rules and changed the way the election will be conducted. Even though we're already into the process the process has begun. The process began the moment. Kelly Leffler was sworn in and the Democrats. Don't like that process. So they want to change the rules and they're working with the speaker of the House. David Ralston Chase the rose. Yes David Roulston. The Republican Speaker of the House is working with Democrats in the State House to undermine governor Kemp there is no other way to put it he. He is undermining governor. Kip In this effort. And you need to understand that what's happening. He's working with Democrats. The governor will the secretary of State asked the asked everyone to change the date of qualification for the jungle primary. The reason the secretary of state eight wanted to change the date for qualification is because he's worried about being able if there are a bunch of people on the ballot. He's worried about being able to get ballots. Printed and sent to soldiers sailors airman abroad and Marines and have our armed forces abroad be able to vote in November and so he asked for the time for qualifications to be brought back when everybody else's qualifying the Democrats have seized on this request from Brad Rapids Burger to get the speaker of the House to go along with setting up a primary now again. The Republicans were banking on there or being a jungle primary. You would have all the Democrats pile on the ballot with Kelly Leffler. The Democrats would split their vote up. Kelly Leffler would win without a runoff and save taxpayer dollars. It would ensure her relection are her election it would be good for the Republicans in the state. It would be one last race on which they need to spend a bunch of money win. They're trying to keep the house and the Senate will. The Democrats are working with with the speaker to create a primary process which is a fundamental change of the rules while the game has already been played they want to have the speaker. Is Doug Collins Friend. And once Doug Collins to run against Kelly Leifer offer he wants to beat the governor and he wants to be Kelly Leffler he also wants to beat conservatives. You didn't understand this I it is somewhat interesting here That collins is perceived as being more conservative than Leffler and yet the speaker wants to use Collins to beat the Conservatives why because conservatives in Georgia are showing a good bit of loyalty to Brian Kim and the speaker therefore is upset with conservative. Showing loyalty to Brian Kemp and he thinks they need to to be humbled and a one way to humble call them is to divide them from the governor in and try to force a split on the conservative side between Leffler Supporters Collins supporters. The speaker has managed inch to maintain his position for so long by dividing conservatives and believes that a primary would divide the Conservatives and keep them fractured in. Keep him in power So that no one would be able to unite against the speaker so creating a primary helps the Democrats and helps the speaker. Divide the conservative base. It Hurts Leffler and it it hurts the Republicans now the reason it hurts Leffler. Obviously because she'll have to go into a primary undisputedly Doug Collins a hero to a lot of people in the impeachment trial in the lie in. He's a personally great guy. He's a good man. He's a good congressman. He is a conservative and Leffler will have to run in that race race with him and that primary but what it also does is it gives the Democrats advantage to be able to consolidate behind one person See if you remember. You've got David Perdue on the ballot in November as well and with purdue on the ballot in November and Leffler on the ballot in November. The Democrats are going to have a bunch of candidates. It's because while produce race would go through a primary and you will. It'll be between Cyril rigs. Amigo Theresa Tomlinson. Jon Ossoff They're only one Democrat to focus on. But on the but in the Leffler race there could be five Democrats to focus on and it will prevent even the Democrat running against purdue from getting the message out and so by consolidating primary and making a primary for left the rituals purdue it allows the Democrats Democrats to consolidate behind two candidates. One for purdue and won four Leffler so the Democrats Kratz will be better able to focus their message. Doug Collins doing what he's doing with the speaker and the Democrats fundamentally changes the rules of the election as the campaigns already begun gun and it hands a huge advantage to the Democrats by allowing the Democrats to rapidly consolidate behind one person for purdue I do and one person for Leffler instead of having a million candidates running and no unified message. But there's another thing it does as well. Oh that hurts the Republican Party. In addition to fracturing and let's be clear here the speaker of the House understands the speaker of the house in Georgia understands. This is gonNA fracture conservative. Not just at the state level but at the national level as well well there will be a lot of conservatives who WANNA rush in and help Doug Collins at the national level they will and they'll be right to Doug's been loyal to them they'll be loyal does doug but there will be a lot of people who come in and they WANNA help governor camp as well because governorship has earned a lot of friends and you'll have the pro-life movement now split because a lot oh the pro-life groups in DC. That were skeptical Leffler. She's won them over now and so they'll be split on the race. So what will happen. is you'll have a bunch of divided resources pouring into the state and and you'll have a bunch of Republicans spending money Georgia on a Senate seat win over by the way. Look over here. At the General Assembly's endanger of going to the Democrats Collin's getting in means for every new dollar that goes into that race. There's one less dollar going to protect. The the General Assembly and.

"From Republicans Doug Collins are this is the grand room it is indeed a grand when this committee I understand is I think twice as large as the house intelligence committee is that right see Davis it's the largest committee hearing on Capitol Hill it's why it's happening in this committee room and not the Judiciary Committee river in itself it's because they needed more room for the public and for the media so as we look at this we should note when the house committee on the judiciary will come to order without objection the chair is authorized to declare a recess is of the committee anytime Mister chairman warming reserving the right to object objection is noted I reserve the right to object James Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin is there is chairman pursuant to clause two J. one of rule eleven I am furnishing you with demand for minority day of hearings on this subject sign back all of their living off looking Madeline was to spend I could not understand what you're saying is that okay with as senses rather it was because he says with a objection when Republicans are seeking more control over he's on this subject signed by all of the Republican members of the committee and I would request that use asset this day before the committee votes on any articles of impeachment this motion Irish red drum my reservation we will confer in role on this later a quorum is present this is the first hearing this is the first hearing we are conducting pursuant to house resolution six sixty and the GT special Judiciary Committee procedures that that are described in section four a of that resolution here is how the committee will proceed for this hearing I will make an opening statement and then I will recognize the ranking member for an opening statement each witness will have ten minutes to make their statements and then we will proceed to questions I will now recognize myself for an opening statement Mister chairman from entry required I mean I have I have the time for an opening statement a parliamentary increase not in order at this time the facts before us are undisputed on July twenty fifth president trump called the president's Lynskey of Ukraine and then president trump's words ask him for a favor that call was part of a concerted effort by the president and his men to solicit a personal advantage in the next election this time in the form of an investigation of his political adversaries by a foreign government to obtain that private political advantage president trump withheld both an official White House meeting from the newly elected president of a fragile democracy and withheld vital military aid from a vulnerable ally when Congress found out about this scheme and began to investigate president trump took extraordinary and unprecedented steps to cover up his efforts and to withhold evidence from the investigators and when witnesses disobeyed him when career professionals came forward and told us the truth he attacks them viciously calling them traders in liars promising that they will quote goes through some things close quote of course this is not the first time that president trump has engaged in this pattern of conduct in two thousand sixteen the Russian government engaged in a sweeping and systematic campaign of interference in our elections in the words of special counsel Robert Muller quote the Russian government proceed that would benefit from a trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome close quote resident welcomed that interference we saw this in real time with president trump asked Russia to hack his political opponents the very next day Russian military intelligence unit attempted to hack that political opponents when his own justice department try to uncover the extent to which a foreign government had broken our laws resident truck took extraordinary and unprecedented steps to obstruct the investigation including ignoring subpoenas ordering the creation of false records and publicly attacking and intimidating witnesses that is now this administration's level of obstruction is without precedent no other president has vowed to quote fight all of the subpoenas on quote as president trump promised in the nineteen seventy four impeachment proceedings president Nixon produced dozens of recordings in nineteen ninety eight president Clinton physically gave his blood president trump by contrast has refused to produce a single document and directed every witness not to testify those are the facts before us the impeachment enquiring is moved back to the house Judiciary Committee and as we begin a review of these facts the president's pattern of behavior becomes clear president trump welcome to foreign interference in the two thousand sixteen election he demanded it for the two thousand twenty election in both cases he got quiet and in both cases he did everything in his power to prevent the American people from learning the truth about his kinda a July twenty fourth the special counsel testified before this committee he implored us to see the nature of the threat to our country quote over the course of my career I've seen a number of challenges to our democracy the Russian government's efforts to interfere in our elections is among the most serious this deserves the attention of every American close quote ignoring that warning president trump called Ukrainian president the very next day to ask him to investigate the president's political opponents as we exercise our responsibility to determine whether this pattern of behavior constitutes an impeachable offense it is important to place president trump's Honda into historical context since the founding of our country the house of representatives has impeached only two presidents a third was on his way to impeachment when he resigned this committee has voted to impeach two presidents for instructing justice we have voted to impeach one president for obstructing a congressional investigation to the extent the president trump card that fits these categories there is precedent for recommending impeachment here but never before in the history of the Republic have we been forced to consider the conduct of the president with peers have solicited personal political favors from a foreign government never before as a president engage in a course of conduct that included all of the acts that most concerned the framers the patriots who founded our country we're not fearful men before the war he witnessed terrible violence they over threw a king but as they met to frame a constitution those patriots still feared one threat above all foreign interference in our elections they're just oppose the tyrant they were deeply worried that we would lose our newfound liberty not through a war if a foreign army we to invade we would see that coming but through corruption from with in and in the early years of their public they asked us each of us to be vigilant to that threat Washington warned us well to be constantly awake since history experience proves that far it influences them is one of the most painful photos of Republican government Adams wrote to Jefferson quote as often as elections happen the danger of foreign influence requires Hamilton's warning was more specific and more dire in the federalist papers he wrote that the quote most deadly adversaries of Republican government and quote would almost certainly attempt to quote raise a creature of their own to the chief magistracy of the union in short the founders warned us that we should expect our foreign adversaries to target our elections that we will find ourselves in grave danger if the president willingly opens the door to their influence what kind of president would do that how will we know if the president has betrayed his country in this manner how will we know if he has betrayed his country in this manner for petty personal gain hello to that is had a response for that as well he wrote with a man unprincipled in private life desperate in his fortune bold in his temper possessed of considerable talents no they're scoffed in private at the principles of liberty with such a man is seen to melt the hobby horse of popularity to join the cry of danger to liberty to take every opportunity of embarrassing the general government and bringing it under suspicion it may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may ride the storm and direct the whirlwind ladies and gentleman the stormy which we find ourselves today was set in motion by president trump I do not wish this moment on the country it is not a pleasant task that we undertake today but we have each taken an oath to protect the constitution and the facts before us are clear president trump did not merely seek to benefit from foreign interference in our elections it directly and explicitly invited foreign interference in our elections here's the powers of his office to try to make it happen he said his agents to make clear that this is what he wanted and demanded he was willing to compromise our security and his office for personal political gain it does not matter that president trump got quite and ultimately release the funds that Ukraine so desperately needed it matters if it that he enlisted a foreign government to intervene in our elections in the first place it does not matter president trump felt that these investigations were unfair to him it matters that he uses office not merely to defend himself but to obstruct investigators at every turn we are all aware that the next election is looming but we cannot wait for the election to address the present crisis the integrity of that election is one of the very things at stake the president has showed us his pattern of conduct if we do not act to hold them in check now president trump will almost certainly try again to solicit interference in the election for his personal political gain today we will begin our conversation where we should with the text of the constitution we are empowered to recommend the impeachment of president trump to the house if we find that he is committed treason bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors I witness panel will help us to guide that conversation in a few days we will reconvene and hear from the committees that works to uncover the facts before us and when we apply the constitution to those facts if it is true that president trump is committed an impeachable offense or multiple a peach impeachable offenses then we must move swiftly to do our duty and charge him accordingly I thank the witnesses for being here today I now recognize the ranking member of an issue one is has rooms yeah Georgia your is opening snacks to speak with a ranking member for public comment six mature before you the gentleman who she's not in order for parliamentary Inc we have recognized the ranking member for an opening statement I thank the chairman and it is a shame that again parliamentary inquires normally somewhere actually some of them will discuss today because we're sort of coming here today in a different arena for everybody who's not been here before this in your room new rules it's a new month we didn't got cute little sticker for our staff so we can come in because we want to make this important this is impeachment because we've done such a terrible job of it in this committee before well what's not me you is basically was just been reiterated by the term what's not need you is the fax was not new is this the same sad story what's he sing in before I get into it to my part of my opening say more this is what was just said by the chairman we worry we went back to rebuild Mr Mauler we're also saying quoting him saying the attention of the American people should be all foreign interference I agree with him completely except I guess the American people did not include the Judiciary Committee because we didn't take it up we didn't have hearings we don't do anything to delve deeply into this issue we passed election bills but did not get into the end of part of what Mr Miller talked about taking his own report and having hearings about that within the so I guess the American people doesn't include the house Judiciary Committee you know the interesting aren't we also just heard an interesting discussion we're gonna have a lot of interesting discussion about the constitution and and other things but we also talk about the founders was racing is the chairman talked a lot about the founders from the quotes and and again this is why we have the hearing about the founders being concerned about foreign influence forty also as didn't won't was the founders being really really concerned about political impeachment because you just don't like the guy you don't want them says November of twenty sixteen the chairman has talked about impeachment since last year when he was elected chairman for two years on November six seven days before he's even sworn in as German so don't tell me this is about new evidence in new things and new stuff we may have a new hearing room we may have new mines we met years aren't comfortable but this is nothing new folks.

"I think it's pretty clear the intent was to hide the evidence that she had violated the espionage act. Okay. So they don't care about that. Then today, we have Doug Collins, congressman, Georgia, he keeps releasing the closed door testimony. We've got struck and page and Bruce or Nellie your and a bunch of other people what's his name precept. Well, now, we got James baker's testimony today, and it's very revealing. We're going to go through the context of this and the contents of it in just a minute. We've got Devon Nunez who was all with me last night. This week. He will be releasing the first of what I believe in believes to be a series of criminal referrals. Congressman Mark meadows are the freedom caucus chairman said war criminals, referrals to come certainly. Well deserved overwhelming evidence showing multiple FBI DOJ executives abused their power. The undermine a duly elected president, and they will be held accountable. This is just the beginning. Now, we have Bill bar. The new attorney general went before the appropriations committee today, supposedly to talk about issues involving the budget of the of the department of Justice, but he had a lot of questions about Molly talked about the four things that would be redacted. He thinks it'll be released in the next week or example, grand jury material that's illegal. You must redact that in that report. You can't release that you can't release sources and methods and the intelligence. Unity that would be a bad idea ongoing investigation that would be a bad idea. And he went on to say that it would be released to the public within a week. And he also said that there has been no call for executive privilege up to this point. Now, they have the right to do that. Anyway, let's go to the transcript of and this. I think it's really interesting of James Baker James Baker is the top lawyer the FBI under Jim combing. And he admits that he was arguing with everybody else why Hillary Clinton, in fact should have been indicted joining us as the author of the bestseller the Russia hoax the elicits scheme to clear Hillary Clinton framed Donald Trump. He's proven more right everyday, Greg Jarrett, and David shown criminal defense and civil liberties attorney, welcome both of you. Let's start with bar. And of course, this testimony that was released isn't important what I'm reading of James baker's closed door testimony. Oh, it is. Because it lends sustenance to the notion that this was a political move by the FBI to clear Hillary Clinton. Baker determined initially that she committed crimes, and he argued vociferously until James Komi and Peter Struck and Lisa page, and then the department of Justice told him, no, we're not going to prosecute. We're setting a brand new standard that we are inventing. The does not exist in the law an intense standard for gross negligence. And so it's abundantly clear from his staff me, the fix was in to clear Panton at one of the point and that was page and strucks testimony behind closed doors that was revealed. Thanks, Doug Collins, and we learned in that case, we're not making any decisions all of these decisions on Hillary. It'd be made by the attorney general Loretta Lynch, and we all know that there Hillary supporters. Nothing's gonna happen. Lisa page. Said every decision they made in the Hillary Clinton case was being dictated to them by Loretta. Lynch's department of Justice in the Obama administration and Peter Struck said the same thing. Beyond that, by the way, you have that side of the equation. You have all of the unbelievable things that were done decisions made with spectator Clinton, but what bakers testimony also give the other side of the equation as to the complete anti-trump by that was going on around the office mornings. part of some They're of packed the things full are so of important life in his kids testimony commu or the workday his ahead. description Why of San the Antonio's mood around first news.

"You you mentioned the superstar players. If we're going to be fair about this. Phil thing Doug Collins, had both Jordan and Pippen got him to the conference finals couldn't get them over the name on the jersey different player. He'll wait a minute. Wait a minute. Fill comes in in the very first year. He wins three straight titles that he's the coach very for. Sure. So you could say okay, good timing by Phil those players came into their age, you know, came into their own, right? When Doug Collins left for whatever reason, he left. All right. So then the Lakers get shack and Coby del hairs is the coach Kurt Rambis tries it they bring in Phil. He completely changes the system any wins three titles in a row that can't be a complete accident Kobi's better at the age of twenty three. Then he is the age of twenty. That's not what about what about the age of twenty two the yearbook. Whatever field got to Boesch Kogyo in A. They didn't even make the finals in both cases. When Phil got there. They Donnelly made the finals they won three titles in a row. Joosten knocking up against the door and the conference finals, and they were continually right there against a historically. Good bad boys team that had to invent their own rule book to try to murder the bulls best player. Yeah. So it's like I feel like a lot of it's timing. Phil did kinda show up at the right time. And a lot of these situations. And I think there is a skill set to taking something that's good. And that's baking and making it extra special but twice and doing it to the level where he didn't just win one title. But three in a row, you gotta give him credit for that. I don't think like you gotta give ten here dates. You're just saying he's not the greatest in the history of American team sports. I'm seeing he's he's in the conversation with Bela check, if not better known saying, he's not who's saying he's not on the conversation. No. But I'm just seeing that I think that he gets he gets like Bella chicks getting a lot of love because he just wanted six Looper bowl. And nobody else in the NFL has done who's the coach of the year in the NBA last year what happened to well. The coach of the year normally goes to. An upstart who ends up getting fired pretty soon after that. What does that say about coaching basketball if you can consistently have this happen eleven titles and thirteen years? How many years did you in one? I think so what? Yeah, they it doesn't always mean that much. I just think that that he gets overlooked, and he did, you know, Pat Riley did it in three different cities that guy can coach he took three different teams to the finals and also faxed his resignation to the Knicks still stand. Wait a minute. If you had a choice to work for James Dolan or not work for James Dolan. What would you do? I get the Dixie cups and the two strings, and I said if he had a fax to resignation Greg say that out loud. What you just said my here Adrian Morgan hausky says that NS canter has agreed to a deal with the Portland trailblazers. What do you think there? Mr. Nick, I liked that. I like that pick up for continues the streak of X Knicks in the playoffs. So we'll see and has come may and June..
