Yeah, I think we had. Ah. It was like 35 6 at the half. On. We knew we were getting a ball. So we did the The score touchdowns. We get that run a clock and Move on, though we played well, most half and got touchdown and plus, the reading club started regard Gabi's in and I was all she wrote. Violas brag on some of these kids and how they played well tonight. Well, you know, I've been saying that for may for last two years, but you know, our quarterback used to Swan is al Junior. And I think he had four touchdowns that ran for one. Hey, through two games, cello and called Rainbow and J. P. Fox and Zack Connell's contributed on the ground, so You know, you said you had a big nothing and he was well protected. So good effort all way around. All right. Who's up next for you? I mean, really pleased with how your kids played tonight. Hey, we did some good things, Bob. But you know the first half we didn't play. Well, I thought we would. But we got their attention. A halftime Lubitsch and you know it goes good made up a little bit adjustments. And defensively, we played a lot better. And offensively we start Excuse a little bit better so overall, not bad. But I think we've got to get better from the opening well, the sea idea and again as I mentioned, I'm sure that you know that first game is always one of anticipation, intention, but under the circumstances, I would think this one takes on added significance. Well, what the circumstances, Bob? Sometimes I feel like I'm fighting Coben more than I am opposing teams of so a You're right. Our kids has has Had a lot on their plate, and they've done a great job of respondents. All the protocols and a good win tonight. Don't Don't get me wrong. It was good Winford blazers, But, you know, next week we're gonna have a central and we got to play a little bit better than that. If we're going Good football people. All right, tell me who has a particularly good night for you tonight. Sonner quarterback Leben Davis had a great night. Hey, made some plays that were fantastic. Got our offense. Why did a great job of block and Linkletter defensively was all over the field lane birds made in place in case we had a little Sophomore step up and make one heck of a pick tonight, and, you know, collectively, it was just a decent group effort. You know, Coach Gary crew was Well coached, and it was a great football game. Two really good coaches to really good teams. So what's the difference in the window? Well, I thought, you know, we were ableto kind of jump out there at the beginning and then get up. Get up 60 nuts and then You know, we play really physical football. It was neither one of those teams we're going to lose. You have to beat him. Somebody had to beat somebody. And I thought, you know, we got to the second half of our kids just had a little more in the tank. And we were able to Teo to run the football on the last drive, and we scored the last steps down with about 14 seconds left on the clock went from the one yard line who scores the game winner. Our quarterback Frank tunes on on a quarterback wedge. We We kind of take Valentine at broke around. We got tackled at the 16 Inch line, and they had one timeout. And Columbus is not dangerous football team so way kind of Ran a play not to score on purpose to make him use their last time out. Then we ran another play to try to run more clock and then we were lucky enough to score on. Give them They still had a couple shots in the end zone. But we were able to kind of make the music timeouts and run the clock. Wyland over Columbus East 28 21 during Fisher. "And they got both got good coaches got good. Gm's and joe. Does it quietly get trouble with the media. Like i didn't get all worked up and started yelling screaming and threatening fight people but quietly professionally fair enough though it denver market. It's not going to be like that. They don't you get six reporters in the room in denver so different there. It is not at all similar to some of the markets in the league in terms of pressure from media and fans. What i agree with that. And maybe that's what they need to fill ability you keep it filled with. They've got a pretty good fan base. There the media coverage football. They're always college sports. You know the difference but they got they got a great fan base in colorado and they gotta be watching this team now because i was probably my teams on selling tickets. My team's sole tickets. We're fun to watch the trailer. Chances we fought. We had people like watching our team and that team sells tickets. Colorado's fun watch. That's explosive dynamic team. I don't like the fact that they don't. They traded russian the fencer. I liked him for. But that's a good team to watch. Burkey petrinja left saint louis via free agency for vegas. There's lots of talk about. Doug armstrong philosophy on no move clauses in bonuses. Where do you stand on those particular issues. I don't think i've ever given a full. No trade no move. Close ever eight teams. I mean again memories faulty. I think you have to adhere to your principles like blue morello. Doug armstrong. they're not gonna break. You can't. I can't say that paul visit at. Here's the rules and then give it to a star so you can't have that because we don't do that here but then i give it to him. I think consistency israeli by big. I would have understood. Just happy being there and the reason he didn't do it because they weren't even guys weren't even doing lottery protections back and that's why the no move clause that even exist. Ihl looking about an old trade. I think what's the i tell smart. S i think anyway you go back to. When no trade clauses came in there really inherently to think about their pretty stupid. You get to a point where you wanna trade a player. He should want out and he should just be able to say. I don't wanna go to certain places. A here's the part that aggravates me you asked for eight eight teams on the no trade less even no fly zone. Eighteenth all seven. Canadian teams are almost always not for tax reasons. But even your canadian players get less with all canadian teams on it breaks my heart. I'd say a remember. I'd say the players who are canadian. You just send you. Don't wanna play canada when you retire. The years remember most fondly will be the year. She played in canada. His people love the game here and they love you my time. It candidate spent so special working for canadian teams not to hurt anyone's feelings here brian. But if you're a star player right now and you had to put three teams on your no move clause who would you pick. Who would be your three teams well for me. I focused on the travel. The travel be. That's going to be a compressed schedule year. So i'd say take three west coast vancouver anaheim on sounds like the travel's going to a nightmare this year. I think they're. They're actually better khazal compress the schedule. And if you have more back to backs worth reinforce that's why goaltending tandem going to be important. Might predicts his play around. Sixty games at is going to be. the calgary. Flames are not gonna fly vancouver in play once they're going to play twice and then they're gonna go right to san jose and they're going to play twice and then in our right to la play twice. They've got it. And i've been harping on this since i worked in anaheim does a poor job scheduling anyway. Travel costs her unnecessarily high. Now that money matters and have to focus on travel costs. they'll do a better job on travel understandably. Nobody has a clue what's going go on here. You mentioned you think might be sixty games. Are we looking at possible division realignment so we looking at a thing where when i read that the league needs fans so much of the revenues created from the gate. How did you party approach. What's gonna go on win. This season starts if they're asking you well first off. I think it's a fair question. What i wanna know us a season ticket earlier. I wanna know restarting so in my mind. The league dragged out the bubbles for a very good breeze. They could read the code nineteen ratings and delayed his latest. They cut in unpack to very safe hops. They wanna do the same thing here right house as late as you can. Now mind at some point. That's a mistake we have to play. People will find something else to do. If we don't play and that the watch something else to watch on tv we lost some percentage of our audience this year whether we know it yet or not. We don't know what it is but some people said there's no hockey on. I watch the documentary channel. Gonna watch netflix. I'm going to read books. I'm gonna learn french. We lost some percents. We don't know what it is so we got a plight in my mind. There's no question will be divisional realignment because you need a canadian division now so a fourteen day quarantine. They're not gonna laugh at anytime soon. They're not opening the border. So the minnesota wild fly to winnipeg the game. They stayed for fourteen days. Ain't gonna happen so you're doing a canadian division. And then they'll do tight like ruler in iran mcnally matt. I showed decide hockey night. Two years ago. The old ram now book to keeping track. No one has don knapp systems and devious. But if you take the geographic distances between the different cities in the us you can figure out what the divisions will look like. What's the tightest travel. What's the cheapest travel. So you got anaheim. La sal a year vegas arizona. That's a grouping at fila colorado whatever florida instead of playing with much florida the washington philly that group. So so you're gonna play. Now the question is can you play three american divisions. Can they play each other canadian. Division's can play canadian teams. And that's okay. I think that will generate interest freer. That'll be fine. Imagine what you've played the ballot that hundred plus when we back. The backs always dressed a lineup. That made sure that the second gave the interest so you. Can you could guarantee a cell the second your dress the right people for the first time anyway. So that's what i say. Sixty games compaq schedule. You'll need to goaltenders wore backpacks..

"Expert Dot Com studios that is where you will find our guest this week blue general manager Doug Armstrong Well Doug. Thank you so much for for joining me here first off off congratulations. I would imagine this has been some of the most exciting time of your life and your family's life I know is a fan. This has been as good as it's gotten for me but for somebody who's living it and put it all together. What has this been been like over the last couple of months yeah? Obviously it's been a great journey <hes> starting in early January <hes> <hes> sort of climbing up from the valley to the top of the mountain. It was an interesting journey. I thought the play offs were you know you're just live day to day in the playoffs or you don't get too far ahead of yourself and then finally when on <hes> the the Horn win and Boston and the season was over and <hes> we had reached our goals. It's been a special ten days or fourteen days cents on. There's always a perspective that when you're in the battle it's different than the people on the outset when parents talk about watching their kids play. They're more nervous than when they they were playing so to speak so for example games. I interviewed John Kelly yesterday and he said during game seven of the Dallas game. He said he was in agony watching that. What were you the general manager feeling in Game Seven of Dallas for example? I I think probably experienced sets in and you you try your emotions. Don't get to hire to Loa game sevens. Obviously a <hes> anything can happen. I thought we were playing great hockey. We couldn't get that extension goal and got into overtime and then you're you're basically glee just playing <hes> hoping for good break and <hes> <hes> they had a couple of great opportunities to score anytime made some great saves we had a couple of great opportunity to score bishop make some great saves and then ultimately there's a great play made by Young Kid Robbie Thomas and <hes> Pied maroons air to knock it in and and the rest is history so you I think you just try and stay in the moment <hes> <hes> you try not to get to higher too low but obviously game sevens and overtimes are are a little more tense. The thing that makes this run so fascinating is what it was going on on October November and December also a different perspective when you're the guy who who put the whole thing together as I was watching I was thinking to myself. I don't think it's that bad but clearly the winds aren't there is you're watching what were you seeing in. Those was months that was leading to the team not have the success that you guys clearly thought was going to happen. In Two thousand eighteen twenty nine hundred I would say early in the season we found ways to to lose games instead of WIN Games which was disappointing and but you're right we were never we never lost you know five or six six in a row where we felt that it was really poor or we never won. Five or six hundred two felt that we were coming out the other side. It was like win. One lose one win to lose three win three lose to so we can never find any any positive footing or but also no real negative. Footing <hes> and we never really felt we're out of the playoff race just because <hes> <hes> we're never more of the seven or eight points out and that's a lot to gain the you have to have a good winning streak in which we did so it was a it was an interesting first couple of months because because we felt we had a good team that weren't getting good results there two moments in the season that certainly people off the ice would focus on one of courses when Craig Berube came on board. What did you think of him before he became? You're at the time interim head coach. What did you know and what did you think well well? I got to work with Craig. <hes> maybe a couple years earlier. I was managing a team Canada for the World Cup and he had just got <hes> <hes> let go by Philly and was looking to do some work so we came on and scouted for me <hes> and team Canada <hes> and then the next year we were looking for an American league coach coach Kevin McDonald who runs our American League program said that he thought he would be an excellent coach. He watched him do the Philadelphia phantoms and and the flyers so we because I knew him at that point I was very comfortable. In the working relationship he went down Chicago did a very good job for our group. <hes> you know Mike was looking for an associate. Coach and Craig checked all the boxes experienced at the N._H._l.. Level Good Good Coaching resume the American league level came up and so I felt really comfortable working with Craig but it's a different animal when you're working with someone who is the manager coach to manager associate coach the coach manager relationships very important in hockey and <hes> so when when he took over as the head coach we we got to learn each other's rhythms and and where where pressure points were and how the things you know were comfortable and uncomfortable and when we got there I felt in early January I understood what he was how he was going to operate and I think he understood how I like to operate and we found a really good <hes> center g that <hes> that was a good <hes> a good the partnership. What did you think change as far as the play went when you saw him coming out because it wasn't like it's switched and all the sudden the team went on a sick run eventually did happen but what do you notice from your perspective that change with teams play well? I think we we became a very the <hes> level headed team. <hes> we played some really good hockey and loss games <hes> but there wasn't that emotional swing that maybe we had earlier in the year <hes> <hes> we handle we handled our losses a little bit better. We also had our wins a little bit better and <hes> <hes> <hes> but I think he did. He did a great job of just staying in the mobile. Having regard stay in the moment was a belief system there and then obviously coincided with Bennington coming in and <hes> <hes> he he gave he gave us those early winds that put some sale <hes> some wind and our sale and then eleven game winning streak <hes> <hes> sort of solidified that he was going to be the guy that was was going to take over a number one position and <hes> he didn't look back and we didn't look back. What did you know about Bennington before that night in Philadelphia while he'd when we drafted him he had been here a number of years he had some really good years in the American League <hes> but there was always seemed to be someone that the organization felt was was better prepared to be the next guy whether it was jake or whether it was who so and Benner is just just a a great story and perseverance and belief in himself? He got down to San Antonio this year thinking you know he was in competition with who so and we had made made it clear that we thought who so was the guy that we viewed as our future number one goaltender the end <hes> really got off to a difficult start had some injuries and Benner came in and just stayed consistent to the task got the opportunity here and <hes> and wrote his own story and we're all benefiting from it now that now that we can look back on it and you see what's wound up happening it. was there a moment over January February or March or even early April. I've been the captain of the ship here on some great teams but this one seems like it might be different. Did you ever start to have that feeling but it was the best record in the N._H._l.. In January February march and April did you see something different than for example twenty sixteen when the team was one of the final four yeah I would say the difference. <hes> with this team was for a number of years. We were one hundred five hundred seven seven hundred eleven points so we had no adversity really you'd have a couple of losses during the year that bothered you but you are always in the top four or five in the League and and this year we had a lot of diversity and I I would say when when we got into after that eleven game game winning streak we knew we weren't going to trade any of our under strict to free agents later they had fought their way back into being a playoff position team. We're going to <hes> at at worst state Adam. Maybe add someone <hes> but we didn't want to upset the chemistry of of the players <hes> <hes> guys it earned the right to to stay in the slots that they had on the team so we made one <hes> adept edition and Dell's auto and just let the guys take it from there but I would say it was early February we felt <hes> <hes> that we were playing good enough hockey for an extended period of time seventy eight weeks six <hes> where we thought that this has a chance to be something that should be competitive when you get into the playoffs and I think one of the things you you look back on his ally won the championship from the eighth and seventh seed national made the finals from the I think the eighth seed so <hes> today's with parody in today's N._H._l.. If you get to the tournament you have a chance to win and I always thought going into the Stanley Cup playoffs. There was one team that was had clearly separated themselves from everybody else. It's all year long and that was Tampa Bay and they lost <hes> they lost in the first round so that really level the playing field where you know you you look at <hes> you look at the point totals between us and Boston and you're talking. Maybe <hes> one win among is different so it wasn't. It wasn't wasn't like there was a team that was dominant Tampa Yeah in looking at the whole list of of reasons why this this happened. I think a lot of people would go. What a defining moment back when Doug Armstrong could have gone okay? We're GONNA pull the plug on on this thing. How close were you to going all right? "But either way, let's move onto GM of the year. The three finalists were Don wa Dell from Carolina Doug Armstrong, who was going to be joining us in just a little bit here on spitting. Check, let's Stanley Cup coupling, general manager happy to have him. And also Don Sweeney from Boston in, Don Sweeney from Boston one. He was the first Bruins win since the debuted in twenty ten I thought he also gave a really nice speech where he mentioned, his his two sons who are born prematurely, they will a pound and a half when they were born, and he said he his inspiration, the see the way they fought life. And he's kind of followed his kids in also gave a nice shuttle to his wife. She was pretty mostly in the audience. It was just a real nice, kind of ten. Moment that we got to see on TV. I don't know if you're able to see it or not this. Yeah. As soon as he got up and hugged his wife, I could sense, like there was like it was something bigger than the award because she was very emotional about right away, gorgeous woman, as well. He walked up. And then when he said that, you know man, there was a lot of emotional moments there. And I, you guys know me I get a little sensitive, and I, I was crying a lot tonight. Trying to keep her keeper in there. But all all every, every every, every finalist, very deserving to win that, I think considering his team to the best and regular season, he had some work to do. Dave used thirty seven players during the course of that season, and, which is very interesting. So that shows that they have a lot of depth as well on the developments there as well as in providence. So I thought, very, very deserving. Doug Armstrong who, who didn't end up getting the nod I thought made some very stellar moves this off season. I think maybe the start of the season is what, what probably didn't win him the award. But I don't really think he. Considering one Haughey's ultimate prize. Yeah. And it's crazy. Other the other guy that was up for this award. Donald L. I mean, the whole summer the question was, who's going to take over and Carolina. And there's a lot of people off the job to turn it down people took their names out of the makes it was kind of a gun show, because the rumors flying around about the new owner, and what he expected and wanted, and what things we're going to be like, but man, this guy came in, or he'd already been there. Right. And he took over and just did a great job that team there. There was a lot a lot there. But the run they went on it's just kind of the beginning. I mean they get a lot of young studs. They're all was so good lot of great players. So those guys, it's funny these GM's do they'll be up for wards like this team has a great year. They've a couple of grades signings or trades, and then two years later, you look and their jobs in question. It's crazy. How this goes, it's very similar to coach of the year. But for this for this season, I mean these guys that, that a hell of a job and like, like, we just mentioned, Doug Armstrong, he's joining us in and he got the ultimate price. Yeah. So it's been pretty great year for all these guys. Still having said that biz when you mentioned how it's emotional, I think that even though the whole show is like corny, and there's there's factors in it where they're trying to make you laugh, and it can kinda get awkward. It's still people, you know, having their dreams come true like, right? On the fact that, you know, you can win an MVP award or Norris trophy at something you've always dreamed of a I could totally understand a lot of motion that night. Yeah, we'll talk more other words and how life changing they are to some of these guys on going back to Doug Armstrong, you mentioned. He is coming on for an interview there was a slight issue with the audio..

"Eight now. One hundred percent sure what's happening with Alex Lander. Do you know I heard last year that they were thinking of moving them, and I looked into it. And Jason Botterill said, I'm going to be careful and some other teams told me they were kind of testing it. But obviously it never happened. I think you bring up the good name. RV? You don't wanna trade that guy for nothing? And then see him turn out in light it up somewhere else in this movie a hundred million times before but you have to watch the clock, right? Like, he's only what in his third year. Yeah. He was awesome Matthews draft. So he's sixteen. So he's in his third year. If you want to and the big question is want, you know, you can hold onto a guy for a couple more years like the one storyline. This year. That's really amazing is Jordan Bennington and all the sudden he is saving Saint Louis season. If he had played less than twenty seven games this year and for goal you have to play in thirty minutes of those games if he had played less than twenty seven games this year. He was going to be unrestricted free agent. And now it is the lock of the year. He's played. I think fourteen got thirteen more to go. It's the lock of the year that Louis are gonna find thirteen more games for that guy to play goes away naturally because he's playing that. Well, but he's. I'm gonna play now because they're not going to lose them for nothing. Okay. Let's get to Saint Louis Sam because there's a team in the beginning of the season. A lot of new guys come in. And it didn't go well at all and had a coach firing. We had arguments on the bench. Like, we heard a lot of stuff coming out of Saint Louis, and none of it was good. And we've seen Doug Armstrong before Saint Louis general manager take stock before trade deadline, and even if his team is close come to the realization that they're not that good and make big moves. Yup. Whether it's shattenkirk, whether it's Bacchus. Yup. Whether it's tasks ni we've seen that before I'm not so sure he's feeling that same way about this team now. Well, how many guys did we have traded everybody we've been talking about Vlad terraced single have until July. First. That is gone going to Carolina. We'd Pedder Angelo commoner Toronto Perico going to have the league, and they pulled it out, and they got it going and the other thing I looked to is. So they were dead last in the NHL January third. Yeah. The last time I can tell the team made the playoffs being in last place that late was twenty two years ago, the nineteen ninety seven Ottawa Senators. Oh, wow. We're dead last in the NHL on January twenty sixth and they made the playoffs and the amazing thing about that is I figured they went like a thought they went like thirty six to end the season. They went seventeen four and nine I think or seventeen four and six and everybody else around them totally fell apart. That's what's happening in the west. Yeah. It's a couple of things one Saint Louis is played better to your point, Jordan Bennington. Stand to have a goalie. Nobody else wants that. Nobody else wanted those final wildcard spots. Housing Saint Louis once upon a time we'd say, oh, that's great. They got a wildcard spot. It could be third if they could get up there. Yeah. They could it would be unreal Doug Armstrong. He got an extension before this last season. But we were starting to hear that he'll he could be up for Edmondson's job..

"Manager. And how about that for just a second here? The CEO the team does it run saying I'm talking to the owner. Well, you know, what if you're the owner? I I believe this. If you're the owner, and you want to say it said, you're the owner of the hockey team. We've got every dog on right to say. I mean, you're the you own the team, you can say whatever you want. He owner came out and said that he agreed with what? Yeah. Well. He after it was set. Exact how about you know, I'm not sure why that's coming from Jim lights in any way. I don't think it was right that common. Either comes from the owner or it comes from Jim nill. The way I see it. Again. That's that's just my opinion. But you got the Dallas Stars coming into town in that scenario. You got a chance to make some, hey, it's the feeling how you're gonna come out of this one because and you just you knew this was going to be a tougher one. You just didn't want to see it the way it happened tonight because of that feeling. Yeah. And I think that you know to your point about how it was said. Who said I mean, yes, those are details are important. You know, I didn't mind what was said. And I think that this. I know you're not saying I didn't either. I know what they're saying. And I like that it was made public. I think that at times this leaking get too soft. And I think we can be too soft on players and especially the superstars and and we're we're up here. Talking about the top line of the Saint Louis blues and how they need to be better me. Does it hurt if Craig ruby or your Doug Armstrong or som- Stillman, if they make a comment about, you know, I don't I don't think. So I think it's I think sometimes these players need to be called out. I think it's healthy. I think it can be productive. I'm going to be interested to see how Jamie Ben Tyler Seguin responded that I think it's going to be. I think they're gonna respond probably Sagan head an assistant. Nobody's score. But Sagan had an assistant. Yeah. They won five one. And that's the problem though. Here's here's the problem with how that was handled there, right? And I don't I don't disagree with anything. Joey Joe, I don't either. That not not saying. Okay. Well, did it work. I mean, I don't know. I I'll tell you what they would like to trade g Jamie, Ben of the Saint Louis blues. Take to it. I told Amy last night. Contract with Tyler Sagan at this point in time. But I'll take Jamie through what's left on bender and. You know, and that's part of the snag there now. And what you've got is. You've had you've had different media people kind of breaking down statistically where they were last. Yeah, they're doing this year and all that stuff. And and they're really missing the point when they're doing that they're really missing the point in in. This fact, check era that we live in where. People decide not to actually listen to what you're trying to say. And what he was basically trying to say is bay knee Jamie, Ben entitled taking the lead the team in the last few years. It has hasn't gone that way, I think you can make the same case for some of these top players for the Saint Louis blues. You can make the case right now for shins shorts. Tarasenko you can make the case for for portraying Gelo. I mean in all fairness, I know he's been out. But just overall when you're looking at the whole season, you know, as a whole you can make the case reject gal. And these are guys that are not living up to the contract that they've signed. And it's not the fact that the contracts are there. It's the expectations that come with it. Because what does it happen is saying? Okay. Well, this guy's got this thing going on in life. This guy's got this thing going on in life. Well, okay. So you got that thing going on in life. You're not you're not giving money back to to a general manager or a team. Right. You know? So there's you know. Yeah. There is a part, and you guys know me more than anybody. I make the personal side of things part of the understanding because you are not dealing with robots down on the as you are dealing with humans. But you know, I totally understand where a general manager or an owner can do it. I understand we're Doug Armstrong was a couple of years ago with the independent contractor, you know, comment things along those lines. So, but it'll be as I just, you know, I expect the blues to turn around and respond to you know, as I've tried to pull it back more specifically to Saint Louis here. But at some point time, I think guys have to actually just. Guys have to just come out with a little more fight. And I don't. I think it I I truly think it's in their makeup. I do I because I just can't can't think otherwise this season. Just went wrong at the start. And they haven't been able to consistently right it now, again, don't don't take this game as a big picture one. Because the blues of that are pretty good stretch of stuff here. But it's not gonna be enough to get you. You're gonna have to get that third game in a row, and that's going to have to become five or six you're gonna have to win nine of twelve win one nine of twelve and went from dead last in the conference to the third in their you know, in in their division, but it's going to take that kind of run. You can't have that kind of run. When guys are just not consistently bringing it shift in shift out, you know, when when you still when you still have to linemates for checking on the four check and you're going to the bench, and they actually win the puck. They look up and all of a sudden you're playing down a man 'cause somebody's changing in the second period. That's not good enough to the line changes are broken. The line changes are good. The line changes is a whole art sharp. You know, you've got guys. Wait literally waiting tonight twice standing at the door in the offensive zone. Waiting for somebody to open the door for them to get on the bench and one time it costs you because you ended up with the puck come back in and you got whistle offsides. I mean that is there's some fundamental stuff there that that is going and joy. That's that's just a mental focus of players getting it figured out. Yeah. I think it's just it's just players taking control. And I think that you can't have the fourth line being the aggressors. I mean, we saw the fourth line again. And I'm tired of talking about the fourth line. But there are the group whatever. I mean, I love the fourth line. You don't get me wrong. I mean, you know, whatever. But. You can't be talking about Jordan Nolan Barbara Shelvin sunk was playing with speed. I it's got to be those top guys. I it's just gotta be the ownership. It's gotta be pissed off in in in the spin this positive way. Sometimes things have to get so bad for change to really happening. Not that this is so bad. But this could be a moment tonight for special teams that maybe this is the game where boom something happens. Maybe there's a change. Maybe someone gets thrown out the first problem the second someone the second is on the first one, and maybe that chemistry comes back. Maybe we see Pat maroon back on that first unit because sometimes it just you had to dig that big hole for change to really happen. But it's going to start with. I mean, I I hear exactly what you're saying. What I I don't understand. How it hasn't happened already? How some of that that aspect of things have have gone now. Robby Fabbri is ready. Ravi fabrics coming off. I are Robbie fabrics playing expect him he and Robby Fabbri I'm saying it now, I'm I am not. I'm not. Putting words in anybody's mouth. Yes. This is one hundred percent my payment Robbie batteries in the lineup. I was gonna say on Saturday. I don't think that he a Monday idol on Monday. Right. I don't think that he actually should be going in for anyone on that fourth line. I agree. Thank you dropping off final game sheets. I don't know that I need that the. No, no. But like seriously, I I'm leaving at fourth line. They're they're delivering what you want. There's somebody in the top nine that doesn't deserve to be in there right now. That's the that's that's that's where it's got to go. I like what Jordan Nolan brought I like what he is brought since day one is just get the puck in its goal. And it's created I like what Chris Butler, but it is not when this these six guys have been out there this year defensively the team has not been very good. And I can't explain it. I really can't. I don't know if I mean. Yeah. You had tough starts of the year for for boom Easter and portraying Gelo, that's that has been an all around good pairing. But I wasn't the problem altogether tonight here like those guys it come down with Gunderson got back in there. Okay. Now those guys come down a bit with Butler enter, but you don't why. Because those two guys are predictable. Yes. And they played basic games. I mean, Chris Butler was moving puck as quickly as any defenseman out there for the Saint Louis blues and joining the rush, and it this this grouping of six just doesn't seem to have it in anyone that was parked in front of the blues net gunnison and Butler were on them cross checking them in the back until they got out of that area. I'll have to go check back on the tape. But I believe a minute ago. Chris Cooper said I really liked what Chris Butler, but he did. I heard it that you said you like. You did say. This brought I really liked Christmas. Right under the bus. Always have your partners and enjoy comes in see Chris. But..

"The season going to go for the Saint Louis blues? Does Doug Armstrong double down or DEA tear it up? Well, if you tears it up he's tearing up his own team. This is Doug Armstrong team. He's moved out the John Davidson check Eric group except for just a couple of guys. This is Doug Armstrong team. So I don't think one he wants to tear up his own group. But Secondly, if he does decide to double down, one of the reasons that that seems to make more sense as it. It takes a while for guys to develop you go. And you say, okay, I'm gonna try to get maybe a top ten pick for that guy that come back full unless you're really they look at it sometimes outside the top five it can be it can be difficult. It get still take a while. So you just. Top ten pick in a bad season. Does not necessarily mean to see there's gonna turn around on a dime. The Buffalo Sabres season turnaround and a dime. He's a bad for a long time. Here's shit gets to the court see with these Vancouver Canucks, for example, they're not even in a playoff spot. And you just name those first round picks it they've got four hornbeck ninth. Overall, pick twenty third overall pick Pettersen fifth overall pick Virtanen sixth overall pick. Not as clear as I think, some people might think it could be me. Tough decisions barbershop goes to shoot it off his teammate in front of the net with a minute thirty one to go. Would you haven't had is just that guy to come in and be really impactful from an offensive standpoint Barbara Shepton Nolan and get to it. Clear it out that will result in icing gathered had that Alex debrincat that comes in as a second round. You know, you haven't had that fourth round. It turns out to be a diamond in the rough and I'm talking from an offensive standpoint. I'm not talking. The parade going Edmonson process. One fourteen to go blues losing five one. Twenty nine shots on goal.

"Komo axe. Well, a terrible performance by the blues last night over the enterprise center, and as a result, Mike Yeo lost his job. You just heard the press conference live from what was that the mills? Where the mill's practices? We are joined in studio by the sports director of camel X. None other than Tom Ackerman. Tom Doug Armstrong said right there that right now the full focus is to shore up this team and around its core players who are the core players of the blue. So you name them. I mean, they're all the stars of the team. Vladimir Tarasenko is one of the big stars of this team. The captain Alex Betrand Gelo, the forwards Alexander Steen. And you know, a core player who has played really well as Ryan Riley hasn't been that bad. But Ryan Riley has been terrific. But yeah, everybody plays, you know, Jaden Schwartz. Brayden schenn's good player. He got get banged up a little bit. And he's back, but everybody called Perico disciplined, by the way got caught on video laughing at the end of that game yesterday. Rub. Some fans the wrong, I'm on. Yeah. Absolutely. You know, that's the kind of stuff that you want to see changed now Craig Berube he's gonna come in. And he's gonna put down some discipline. So ba- ruby comes from the Ken Hitchcock school, which he's pretty tough and disciplined so things are about to change around there. He knew you heard him say it right here on camel X. He said things are a little loose early in the year. And they started to tighten some things up recently. But they have a ways to go and he's gonna get on them. Now at the same time Doug Armstrong will conduct a search for a coach soon. This is an interim coach this decision was made. Because last night they decided to dismiss them and they have to pick somebody. So Craig Berube e is the closest thing to it. And he is holding a place. Now, he could earn it or Armstrong has said, and he said it just a few minutes ago that he could hire a permanent head coach in the middle of the season. He could also conduct research pretty soon that they will. So but in the meantime, Craig Ruby's respected, he's been a kid coach. She's he's been around these guys, and they will follow his lead. But there are some players. It really comes down to this. He said we that Mike yo paid for the sins for myself and everyone in this organization, there's a lot of truth to that. Everybody's to blame here. Not just Mike yo, but the coach had this team last year failing late in the year and they missed the playoffs after a good start. And now they got off to a very poor start. They lost to the worst team in the NHL last night. Oh that makes them doors team in the NHL. I think they lost to the second worst team last night while they are now the worst team in the NHL. So. Not by record. But we all know what we've seen now. But they believe the blues believed that this roster is filled with enough talent those quote unquote core players to make a difference. A couple of other things that Armstrong did he brings Larry Robinson of the staff Robinson Hockey Hall of Famer, he's coached the devils and the kings. So he works alongside Baru. He also something else that Armstrong said just a little while ago, and you can follow along on cable exports. There live tweeting it he said that I won't remove letters from this group that is not a one man show what he meet, and he said this is a leadership group by committee. What he means says he's not changing captains. So there's been some disgruntled fans about the leadership, and maybe they should strip to see from Alex. And give it to somebody else. Right now, they want to keep it the way it is. And see what sort of changes are made when you change the head coach and the philosophy a little bit and where they move forward. But the blues I mean, they're up against it. Nashville twice this week. Yeah. Yeah. They're probably the best team in the west. And it's not too late. But it's darn close to too late. I think just the nature of the way points are accumulated in the NHL. And the fact that we have lost in regulation so many times so far. You know, it's one thing if you get beaten overtime, at least you get a point out of that. And for the blues to get from where we are right now into playoff contention. Even let alone a playoff spot is it's going to be needed dramatic turnaround and quick. Yeah. And you know, there may be some people listening right now and say, you know, what why should I care about the hockey team in its direction? I I don't go to hockey games. I'm not a big Blue's fan. Let me tell you a couple of things there is an ownership group that spent a ton of money on on this team. And they are right. I mean, they spent about as much as they possibly could under the rules to build this team. And they are not happy can't be nobody is happy with what's going on. Also this team has one of the most loyal fan bases in all of sports. Now, they might not fill the building to capacity every night, but they have a die. Hard core fans will follow them around for years. Fifty plus years of hoping that this is the year. They deserve better than that. They deserve better than this. And the blues recognize it and have made one move here. That's not the last move. If things don't go. Well, that's what I was gonna ask you, you know. So you finally coach that that done check. You can't do that again. Anytime soon might we start seeing some of the familiar names get moved on this team. I think it depends on where you are in terms of your record. So if they start to win some games and get themselves back into contention. I think that can change, but if they are failing, and it is a foregone conclusion that they're not going to make it. I do think it's possible. Now, you could also trade for someone of great talent and quality on the other side and make it an even swap in terms of bringing in a veteran who you like better than your veteran. Also, I think everybody's on notice including the execs, Doug Armstrong. Mike, yo that's his mic was not only hired as the coach. He was the coaching waiting. He was anointed coach in waiting. When Ken Hitchcock was the coach. So it is tied to Doug Armstrong, and he'll have to face a lot of questions and pressure as he goes along each. Every day now. So it's a it's an operation. That's very proud. They do have even though they've never won a Stanley Cup a lot of history a lot of people paying attention. And they have an ownership group that has gone to great lengths to try to make this thing work. Tom Stillman went around. He he went all over the community to try to pull together people, and they've spent a lot of money trying to make this work. So it's the owners deserve better. And the fans deserve better hockey is unique combination of skill, you know, the speed shooting, but hard work in maybe in some respects more than other sports that the work ethic involved. I think of a guy like Kevin shattenkirk who was one of the stud defenseman in this team. And now he's a healthy scratch in the NHL. There's just not getting it done and some of these players whether it's Bom Easter I mean name the just not getting it done. And it seems as a casual fan that maybe that work ethics not being applied here. Maybe I'll give you another one player who came in here. Now, it's a one year deal. But it was a great story, Pat. Maroon right. He comes in. Here is back in his home town's one year deal. I'm betting on myself. I'm going to go out there. And he is yet to score and has yet to make a difference. Now, he is a big physically imposing player who's coming off an injury also. But he is somebody. I think if if they could light a fire under him or if he finds the right gear it sound like he doesn't want to do it. He wants to find the right gear to get it going if he gets healthy enrolling their players that can make a difference. But again, I mean he's been bumped off that top line in a lot of time has been lost here. And they may be running out of it. Yeah. That's that's entirely possible. That's Tom Ackerman. We're going to get the news just a minute. And then when we come back the fascinating story..

"Fans are guy. Okay. Well, we've seen this movie before its third time back and you know, he's a, he's a good player, but he quite honestly just David Perron is he gonna put us over the top next year? No. And then they signed Bosak and then they make the huge trade for a Riley as like, wow, yeah. And when they met at a Riley, I was at home. There was like seven, eight at night on that. That night. It was a Sunday night. I believe, as like now we're talking here. Doug Armstrong has made a significant move. I mean, you know it was it was gutsy trade. You trade, you know, two players that have been pretty good for you. Burlington Sabotka first rounder. I think a second rounder, a prospect. Good prospect entail Thompson, but now you look at a team they have and then it was a few weeks later they got maroon, I believe, or whatever. Now you've done a complete overhaul of your offense, Tim. And I think Doug Armstrong gave the staff at the end of the season from the day that Schwartz got hurt in Detroit, they, they won that game, whatever fi, one from that game on and shorts missed six weeks or so. They were the second. Lowest scoring team from that date till the end of the year. So they didn't score and you know, that was a big reason why they missed the playoffs. So, but now you've revitalized overhaul your offense. And I think they're, they're a really strong team up front. I mean, basically, they're, they're really strong team, and you know having said that here in late August, there are still a couple of x. factors number one is Robby Fabbri. How will he be after back to back ACL surgeries if he can come back at eighty percent or better? That's a big bonus for this hockey team. And the other one is the the play of the young kids coming in Robert, Thomas enduring Cairo. I mean, do they make the team number one? How impactful can they be? You know, let's assume the best that that fabry's good and Thomas in Cairo make the team. You got a loaded. Yeah. Loaded team in entrusted. Thomas is he's a player. This guys. Stud. He will be a dominant player for this organization. It could be this year next year, two years. Would you compare him too because you can't seem mart and he's a smart smart center ice iceman. I'd have to see a more. I've only seen him a couple of games in the NHL level in preseason, and I don't see him play junior because we don't get those games, but he's, he's just a smart two way player. I mean, I mean, Taves maybe I don't know. I mean, is the as gutsy as tapes and has been a big game player like tapes. I don't know. So when you you look at, you know, the possibilities. I mean, pretty enticing. Really? Yeah. And then that gets people going, and I feel like for as much as understandably Saint Louis gets call the baseball town. I really think if you polled sports fans and Saint Louis, not like casual fans who you know, understandably love to go to Busch stadium and hang out, and we're reading the whole pomp and circumstance of that experience. I think if you ask sports fans and Saint Louis, what they would rather see a blue Stanley Cup, Ricardo's World Series. I really do think a blue Stanley Cup would win, and that's not to pit the two organising who certainly have some. You know a great energy between the two of them with the synergy of the winter classic, and so on and so forth. But but the, there's just a passion here to see this organization get that moment. You know your your eyes light up when I, when I say that, I'm sure you've pictured at many a time because your dad was in calling Stanley Cup finals. Exactly..

"Lot quite a bit around the trade deadline last year and doug armstrong was part with them and i know his name was linked with a guy like mike hoffman last year round the trade deadline and and doug armstrong just would not budge and you know to go along with robert thomas jordan cairo clint cost and those are probably the top four prospects that the blues had in their organization and it had taken a lot for doug armstrong you give up a guy like h he's still very raw he's going to be a project for bill housing the coaching staff there but i really like them i mean he's got the size he's got a heck of a wrist shot i've already seen that and but he's the guy that's going to have to be utilized i think in in a scoring role i think the blues just because of his youth and inexperience of playing at the nhl level maybe we're not necessarily completely comfortable and playing him up in the lineup baio hesitated in that area a little bit but i think the more seasoning that he gets and the more reps he gets level he's going to be a very good player for the buffalo sabres but you're going to they're going to have to be patient with them because you know it's not gonna come overnight maybe the skating isn't necessarily were you know you hear a lot where the league is got so much speed going on right now skating's going to be something that's gonna have to come with his game but there are a lot of components that he has an variable utilize this is and give him maybe in those power play situations where you can set him up in the slot and have him set up for that for that rishaad i think they're going to be able to get a nice little score that a guy that could maybe turn out to be a twenty goals for the nhl i would say it's interesting you brought up about the skating one of the goals of jason botula here has been to get faster to get better skaters and rhino riley quite frankly wasn't one you know he's a lot of really good things but being fleet of foot is not necessarily his strong suit obviously what about subotica bergelin when it comes to being skaters and guys who can get up and down the ice the guy that can be one of those sneaky types gators like i said when you get a guy that's really supplies the what i feel like when he's playing it as bad as that physicality skating comes along with it and and and that goes hand in hand to me and that's where it comes into play where guys are going to be a little hesitant to come around him especially when he has the pocket he's a very good reverse checker protects the puck very well but there are also times ripe scene where he'll take some risks with boxton in that maybe you kinda cringe a little bit and i and i think that goes back to his date a playing in the cage l were they gave him more offensive responsibility so it's probably taking a little more time to get acclimated again with the nhl style game obviously the the two ice sheets are totally different styles of player totally different but the more he continues to play i think he's going to get back to those pre k gel days and he does have some good wheels on him whatever his game is gone and patrick burglaries another guy that probably you're not gonna you're not gonna look at them and go wild there there's a guy that's just going to blow you away with his speed but he that was his size and i think he's got those long strides where i think it offsets where you know speed is an element that obviously that you need but he's going to be able to supply that just because he's got the body those weather lucar from nhl dot com covers.

"Mike anderson did you find the audio clip doug armstrong statement doug armstrong this would have been two thousand fourteen april of two thousand fourteen we need that killer instinct when you have a team down to nothing you need to take that knife in gem it through there i in into their brain in kill them we don't do that wow that's the killer instinct indeed i want to see the blues do that against the blackhawks i want to see them do that against the avalanche wouldn't that be a wonderful one two combo to give them the killer spirit to start the playoffs and get into the playoffs oh this is going to be a big game saturday so i have to talk about facebook's or more and i feel like i've talked about him a lot but they're gonna be mark zuckerberg is going to be speaking in front of you he's actually going to be speaking in front of congress and trying to give some insights into just next week and in a media call he talked about some of the changes they'll be making we didn't take a broad view of what our responsibility is and and that was a huge mistake it was it was my mistake we have to ensure that all those developers protect people's information and it's not enough to have rules requiring they protect the information it's not enough to leave them when they tell us they're protecting information we actually have to ensure that everyone in our ecosystem protect people information towns like such a light on the problem with facebook is they could be forthright and it could be honest about their dealings right now but as soon as you just hear him on a media call talking to investors to say hey hey hey hey we're still a giant company worth investing money into please.

"States that he needs to carter hutton has made more of them and that's why carter hutton has played more so what are the blues do it's it's it's hard to say because you've got three more years of jake alan at four point three five million talking about a untradeable contracts that's what that is right now and carter hardened for as well as he's played i just don't think the teams even the blues view him as a warning a and so you know some people have suggested carter huhtinen billy you so next year will to problems you know is hot and no one a uh you know yourselves never played in the league before other than sat on the bench and how do you trade that jake alan contract so to me you know i i think in a perfect world doug armstrong would like a different goaltender uh starting next year but i just don't know how he was going to pull this went off but hey let's not forget he somehow find a way to move your realtor ifor brayden schenn so i would never say never with doug armstrong well assuming the blues attack this problem from the other end in go after goal scores and in fact that they could benefit really from the true freelancer what are the chances that the blues seat john to virus this summer and please say very high what will they go after him yeah surely will live epa lesson we always have these conversations maybe not players to the caliber of uh the johnson first but we have conversations about these types of players in march all the time and guess what happens they ended up resigning when writer at club the next couple of months and it was just all kind of mood but you know could davar as really make it to july 1st ah you know it seems unlikely you know it seems like kill eventually resigned with the islanders you know what i remember when stamp coast resign with tampa bay uh but it but it could happen um i guess so the way you have to look at it is this you know what would make st louis an attractive destination i mean you have uh you have some problems here i think and and he's obviously.

"Look at this with doug armstrong is you know ease reading the play in i hate to make a reference to the nfl but you look at it as a quarterback you know if you're four thin six in your own zone you're not going to go for it you're gonna upon to put your team in a better position and doug armstrong has continued to put his team in a better position by moving players now look people want an alexander steam gone people wanted patrick bergling gone people wanted jay bouwmeester gone but need unita remember you can't move a player unless the other team is willing to take him on in alexander stena's a lot of years left on his contract patrick bergelin his lot of years left on his contract jay bouwmeester as another year on his contract teams may not want to take on those contracts and army has parlayed several players and picks into core players for the blaze in view look at your lataria turned into brayden schenn we talked about david run glad turning into the paigc that was flat amir tarasenko and so i think when you look look at these trades fans tend to look at them and compartmentalize them and i say fans mean me i tend to look at them you know it's like oh my goodness this is this is the what is the saying about the team but really general managers have to look at the future osce they're looking at the rest of this season they're looking at next season and several seasons ahead of that and and playing their odds to say what benefits the team the moby coach think about this you know you're not in the position that nashville zan were you can throw all of your prospects two players because you know you have the players to get their doug armstrong is still looking for those players like nashville and so he's looking ahead he's looking at the future so this isn't a one in dawn situation he's looking to build on top of the core he's already at and i think he's done a great job of it transitioning from a bear jackman type core to a david backus type corps to a core that has led to butare sankoh unchanged shorts quelen this isn't a fire sale this is nothing like what's going on a repeal of this isn't a.

"Tires on on certain number of players obviously they're gonna be looking but uh i think the direction if they make any kind of a move here's esa and this is just based often but experience with doug armstrong he's not a real big fan on on uh just bringing in the rentals and when you're starting to talk about rentals i think you can pretty much eliminate guys like rick nash because the the the driving prices just going to go through the roof on i am because there's so many teams in on the vander keane's another one he's our guys with expiring contract i think if doug armstrong makes a deal here i would look at a guy i know that they've kick the tires on a guy like a mike hoffman an ottawa and that he's term left on his contract if out of what makes them available this would be i think the most ideal fit for the st louis blues because he can give you got a great shot you can give you that top sticks present and he's got term left on his contract get got two years left after this and those are the kind of players that doug armstrong likes to bring in here they like perfect example is j bohm easter when he did that a couple of years ago yes he was on going on an expiring contract that they were able to get him sign and and prolong it with with an with an extended contract here so you know my coffin would be the perfect fit uh max patch ready he's another name that i've heard out there but i think that is a little bit of a stretch to because montreal's priced as long as it was pretty big so uh pat maroon keep an eye on him this this is one that uh to me is probably a wildcard i've heard a few things out there on tap maroon uh saint louis and wouldn't that be a great story to bring him back i think he would be a good fit for this hockey team just for what he brings and i and i understand he's the one that does have an expiring contract but this is.

"Armstrong is not the only contract that's up in june and while they still have a lotta time to get things squared away and settled uh there are other people on the staff who contracts will expire in june two and and they likely wanna know who the general manager is going to be and and even if time says it's gonna be duck you know they want to see something and paper so you know i think for the uh the whole benefit of the organization it would probably be a good thing to get that doug armstrong contract on you know but we're not involved in the uh in the talks that they've socalled had dry at right now and and you know how much is doug armstrong gonna cost i i think it's going to be pretty expensive and so it's it's fun for all of us to say hey get it done uh but if you're tomstone men and his ownership group and and you're pretty aware of what the price tag is going to cost garnish on what he's done in the past uh seven years with this team uh i think you probably got to be smart about it and and make sure you're not overpaying because of lose if i have to watch uh the wallet it ever since that time stillman took over so i i think that's probably an element in why this might be uh taken a in your experience how similar is the contract negotiation for a general manager is that to the negotiation that perhaps you'd have four star player you know i actually thought about that in the past couple of weeks because here you have doug armstrong who just uh you know it's his day job to uh to work out contracts with players and all ryan miller his uh his a kept biologist who who works with all that on the side uh takes care a lot of that uh lake work but doug armstrong you know always behind the negotiations and and finalising those types of deals well now you have the unique circumstances him go into the team and and trying to work out his deal you know amy a conversation i had the other day uh maybe doug armstrong doesn't relate to the players in terms of you know how those contracts come together in what's involved but what about comparing him to uh.
