"And of the repercussions yet so far. A fact of the matter is he came out and said that no one has died of covid in australia directly you know no one directly has died from covert and only covid that at all interesting now back to the capital riot. Remember james sullivan. He was the one who is there was caught and arrested and whatnot and then later let go while he was pot on a hot mike during this during this event on the six. That just got leaked this week. He said he met up with the cnn reporter that she came up to him and she said to james sullivan. We did it. We did it after this whole big insurrection. Well he had a live hot mic going at the time and that wasn't supposed to be recorded a i'm sorry wasn't supposed to be leaked to the public is saying thumbs up good job. We did it we did it. And this is a cnn reporter a female. That said this gene sullivan somehow got leaked out so this horrible event. That was so horrible. Big smile on her face after all this happened said we did it and came up to him. That's variant lad. Thanks or whoever leaked that now election night. More more information on double-counting double counting the ballots on election night. Ralph jones ralph. Jones came out this week and said that this is the second one. Now that we've got is second person that came out to say. We've got a double counting of ballots. Many ballots were double counted on election. Night remember there shouldn't be one single ballot being double counted at all in any election and there batches in batches of elections run through twice. We've already seen this right after the election came out. We've seen the evidence on this and the swan and the sworn affidavits to show that they're running through these running these through multiple times gets to a point where there's an error in feed the The stack through or the era took place and the subsequent boats. Not running the whole thing's again so they're running them all but anyway. This ralph jones announced this week. The double counting ballots on election night. Now also news this week operation lost souls. This operation recovered twenty four missing children near the el paso area. This news came out on june sixteenth this week in make much in as far as mainstream media but boy in the recovery of twenty seven missing children in the el paso area certainly big news..

"Am so pleased to have as my guest. Jeff ramsey the co founder of emarketer and chief evangelist for insider intelligence. Jeff is a veteran of the attic. She'd your stage and we are going to talk on this podcast about the numbers. You should be paying attention to in the year head and the stories behind those numbers but before we get into jets predictions for the rest of twenty twenty one. I wanted to talk about twenty twenty. We saw so much change because of the pandemic and i'm sure that wreaked havoc on your predictions. Jeff well Yeah twenty. Twenty is year a lot of people would like to forget but we can go back and revisit that certainly in a busy year for our forecasters are forecasters busy themselves with excel spreadsheets Calibrating and then recalibrating numbers at a dizzying pace based on new information. That's coming in and certainly during last year we saw a lot of changes particularly with the consumer and So then ensued a ton of revisions to our projections that would normally last for you know at least eight nine ten twelve fourteen months You know we we were. We were spinning our wheels so fast. It's a wonder we didn't come off the tracks Biggest places where you had to revise those numbers Assure i think the biggest area without doubt was the area of e-commerce and we're gonna get into that in a little bit but if if anybody in the audience is thinking to themselves e commerce you think about about that. We'll think about your activity over the last year. And if you haven't done more door dash or grubhub or i'm not going to the store and never mind that. There's you know a massive winter storm that we're now seeing people are jew. Were just afraid to go to malls all this data and statistics were talking about you. Know people were a lot of most people. Were taking this seriously and mask or not. It was more comfortable. Felt more safe to order from home Whether it be on your desktop laptop or your mobile device so i would say the biggest set of numbers are the biggest changes in our set of numbers were in the e commerce space space and where we netted out to give a kind of a tip of the hat to twenty twenty is ecommerce sales grew by something like thirty two percent in twenty twenty versus twenty nine thousand nine due to the lockdown measures in the fact that we are all self isolated and just to put that into perspective If you look at non ecommerce sales that's that's the that's the the that's like the rhinoceros compared to the flea of ecommerce right but if you look at total retail says we're talking somewhere in the order of almost six trillion dollars right if you look at ninety commerce sales. They slipped by negative Three point two percent in two thousand and twenty. They might grow again predicting grogan this year but it actually slipped by over three percent and yet total commerce. Total retail sales grew why because of e-commerce growing a significant thirty two percent. So we some people said that we have Grown e commerce On original predictions something. We've advanced something like two or three years ahead of where we would normally be an and the trains left attracts. The growth rate is gonna go way way down. It's going to continue to grow some bets. That's the biggest change that we've seen. Yes i can. I can validate that anecdotally. In terms of how much ivan purchasing on amazon as well is kind of a lot of new e commerce stores. I was trying out to get you know farm to table food delivery and that kind of thing personally but that that's where my taste lies and you know you're making me hungry. Zony sales are seeing so many sales are moving to online. It makes me wonder you know one. What does that mean for all these digital advertising companies that kind of our that point right before you hit by And as well as how much time people must be spending online consumers platforms before they go on to you now. Consumed their dinner via door dash. Sir you know what that's a really good place it to really dig into because you know if i were say a a number two area where forecasters had to continually busied themselves. With reaching recalibrating. Numbers was in the area of time spent so let me just puts in perspective on that because i think most of us realize having or locked in an apartment or a house we start to go a little bit stir crazy. So what do we look to. We looked to digital activities to you know suck up our time and so a couple of things with these since cove it. Americans have increased the time that they spend with all media cross online and offline by about an hour and five minutes a day. So it's over thirteen hours a day. We're spending with media now. I do need to put a little caveat there thirteen hours you might be thinking. Wow that's a lot of time. And that's that's half the twenty four hours you know that are in a day. But it includes double-counting for multitasking. 'cause i don't think there's any of us on the planet that don't were we're watching. Tv have another device in our hand. We're doing something else right. And because we never know in the second or nanoseconds time where attention is fleeting from one. St the other way that attention actually lies. We have to double count that figure. So if you're spending an hour watching tv and you're on your mobile phone that whole time we have to double count That that our so it becomes two hours if that makes any sense so we're spending an extra hour a day and almost all of that Ghosts to digital so just to give some perspective before cove it we were spending. This is pretty pretty significant amount. We're spending about half a little over half of our day. Six hours and forty nine minutes a day Doing digital stuff alive. It was mobile. was streaming but then we went from six hours forty nine minutes in two thousand nineteen the pandemic hits and we go up by a an hour and a minute to seven hours and fifty minutes a day with digital And we think that digital time is going to continue to increase by twenty twenty two. We'll be spending eight hours a day with digital which was a little frightening for maybe some parents as they think of their kids. Because this is on average and if you think of kids and teens and it's probably way more than eight hours day so as we net out digital time now counts for roughly sixty percent of adults a total daily time spent with media and another area within within digital of course streaming Were all streaming more and when you think of time spent with streaming whether you thinking connected. Tv's court cutting or cord nevers. That's my favorite. Group is like college students who never will never have paid for a traditional pay. Tv subscription. why would they win. Their parents are basically donating their netflix account to their kids And then you got. Ot subscription activities with netflix amazon prime. And so on so. These numbers really shot way past our original pre covid estimates and so where we netted out. Was it in twenty. Twenty one time spent with digital video will have risen by thirty three minutes or over half an hour per day and so now we're spinning If we're looking at digital video time said about two hours and nineteen minutes And that's up from an hour and forty six minutes and twenty nine thousand nine but just a quick reality check. And then i'll let you jump in here. Reality check is that you might be thinking with all this streaming and so on that people are spending on average more time with digital video than they are with linear tv. But that's not quite yet. The case are estimated that traditional. Tv whether you're watching broadcasts abc cbs. Or you're watching a cable. Channel or direct access is is sixty percent of the time we spend with. A video is with traditional tv

"Forty five. The united states detonated two atomic bombs over hiroshima and nagasaki. It is harnessing of the basic power. The universe shortly after a group of manhattan project scientists at the university of chicago who helped build the atomic bomb but protested using against people started the bulletin of the atomic scientists. Huge choice is peace or total destruction. the atomic is yeah. They wanted to urge fellow scientists to help shape national and international policy to mitigate the risk of the nuclear technology that they themselves had helped create and they wanted to help the public understand the dangers of nuclear weapons. To the future of humanity world would not be the same. i remember anthony blind from hindu scripture. The by gerrad gita. Now i am become death. Despoil worlds are another in designing the cover of its magazine. The bulletin created something striking o'clock running out of time. It started as artistic piece created by chicago based marta lanes door. She was very to manhattan project. Scientists issues gender stood the scientists concerns about this new technology and the need for public engagement and they had asked her to create some sort of design that would engage the public on. How serious the threat of this new technology. And she said it seven minutes to midnight every year since then. The bulletin set the hands of its metaphorical clock in relation to how close to doomsday. We might be last year. The group moved it to a mere one hundred seconds to midnight. And at the time we got a lot of chiding like it's twenty twenty how come it so close. Do you really believe it's this close and then sure enough. We saw the massive wildfires right outta the gate in in australia. That got repeated in california this year but obviously covid and the inability of the global community to deal effectively with covid is was to us a clear indication of our inability to deal with existential threats. Known some ways you can make an argument that it should have been even closer to midnight this year because you had your existing threats then you had that real life pandemic which is continuing to affect us. How can we didn't go further to midnight. Yeah so in some ways You know we don't want to double count right and so a lot of the warning signs. Were what moved to one hundred seconds to midnight but it is a very dangerous in environment. And we'd we do want to acknowledge that hundred seconds to midnight is dangerous. We do see some bright spots and some opportunities so those bright spots helped us from moving forward but we weren't prepared to move it back. It may be tempting to look at the clock this year and take some hope from the fact that it didn't move closer to but remember it's still the closest to midnight that we have ever been and this year the bolton highlighted new threat one that they said is a threat multiplier to all the other problems that we face with the world health organization called a massive info democ he really grappling with what our trusted new sources. And how do you find them. And how do we share the so. We're all overwhelmed with data and information. But it's very optimistic. When it comes to share it information or what you and i know and so that becomes very disorienting and it becomes Quite dangerous right. It sets up the ability for authoritarian leaders to create their own information and different sites secrete. Their own information will get into the surprising. Ways that this info democ touches every threat factor to the doomsday clock but will start with the issue that was really the canary in the coal. Mine of this info dynamic climate change. The scientists have been warning us for decades and yet they're the ones who have experienced a lot of these issues in terms of misinformation and disinformation. I that denying climate science the marginalization of them the using of science which is kind of about uncertainty and evolution to dismiss what scientists have to say. All of. this was the global warming. And that it's a lot of it's a hoax hoax. Moneymaking industry okay. Climate change is not science. it's religion it pulls the rug out from under scientists and expert exactly the time when such expertise is actually needed and within the context of the us there could be real differences among republicans. Democrats or what you think about market versus regulation. Those are really really important questions that we should be debating fiercely right now that we can when it's being defined as climate change yes or no we can't even have the kind of real political conversations that we should be having

"Yes, The Christmas for account has a methodology to it in that the people who are out in the field are actually moving along the route, And once they're done with their area and their route or roots, then they don't actually he counting birds when they're driving through somebody else's area. They don't Pirate the birds that they're seeing at this time of year. The birds aren't really all that mobile. They're pretty much stationery, so that we're pretty well assured that you know, for most of the birds that were counting. We're not double counting species. The challenge in different methodology is with feeder watchers. You don't want to keep counting chicken easier toe. He's They're coming into your feeder for the whole day, because it's likely that then you will be double counting. So for feeder watches. What we asked them to do is keep track of the amount of time that they're watching their feeders and on Lee take the maximum number that they see or hear of any given species that at one time were probably getting a little bit of undercounting, but we're not certainly getting over counting or double county. Okay, time for another round. Robin. I have heard of this concept called a Spark bird or a gate. Gateway bird as the bird that got you first interested in birds, right? Jeff, Tell me what your gateway bird was. The most dramatic one was a rose breasted grow speak. I used to live in Needham, Massachusetts, and we had some apple trees in the backyard. And one day when I was about five years old, I was out under the apple tree and a chipmunk fell out of the tree. And I was like, Oh, that's different. And pretty soon the chipmunk falls out of the tree again, and we looked a little bit further out. And there's this adult male rose breasted grow, speak further out the branch. Beyond him was the female sitting on the nest. And every time that chipmunk would climb the tree to go to get toward the nest. He'd knocked the chip on kind of the tree. So that was certainly one of the first spark birds that I had. Joanna, What was your A gateway bird? Yeah, I started burning more as a scientific experience after I took up an internship in college, and I think My biggest awful moment that summer was when we caught a flock of over 150 pints Tuscans in Northern California in the summer in our Mist nets, which we may have permits for we just have So many places, guns. He was just like extract. Let them go extract. Let him go. There was just in the cortical experience. Wow, that must have been and deadly. Tell us yours Remember, actually in junior high school doing book reports on birds. And birds of prey was one of those. And I remember reading about peregrines and I just really got hooked on Raptor every since then. So it has to do with this speed. I mean, peregrines are crazy, fast birds. And so that to me was just something that was just so exciting that this bird could fly over 100 Miles an hour. Just crazy. I want to talk about going out looking for birds this winter are the birds were going to see say in Duluth going to be migrating from somewhere else, or are they more likely to be permanent residents? Suddenly. Yeah, You know, I'm on the Mississippi flyway. And so my birds are coming from central Canada and heading south into Texas. And I have birds that are hanging around like chicken ease and winter finches and things but Words that are moving through bald eagles, roughly cocks. Things like that are coming through all of the song. Birds and smaller birds have passed through, and there are probably already down in Central and South America. But, yeah, I mean, I'm getting a lot of what you would call typical theater, birds, cardinals and woodpeckers, antiquities and things like that. No, I know what about San Francisco. I know you had your winter in August. So one of the birds coming or going from winter in California. In general, we get over 500 species, which is really unusual compared to other states of our latitude in the U. S. So it's an incredible time to bird in winter in California. It's not even that gold. It's just about 10 degrees colder than our summer. In San Francisco. I should say And so we do as I mentioned get a lot of water birds that come down from the Arctic after they reach there, then come down here and they spend their winters here. One of my favorites is the sanderling that breeds in the high Arctic and winters on the coast. It's interesting because that really is gone by 2 2.5 months of the year and spends the rest of its time here, so it's not even accurate to call it with her murders sometimes call it a non breeding range, and that's really what they're doing. They're spending their not breeding time here. And then we do get some birds like the hermits Russian thousands warbler that come down in terms of songbirds. But of course, we have something migrate south as well. So it's a little bit of a mix. And Jeff what about if the BG's We're going to Massachusetts? What would they be seeing? Well this year, and actually, they would be seeing a rather amazing diversity of the winter finches. We've had both species across bills both evening and pine grows speaks, especially Pine Grove speaks being unusual and lots of systems went through early and purple Finch is also they had a big flight in their way south of here, for the most part Now what we have right now are mostly Red Cross bills and read polls floating around. And then the regular wintering species. Both not hatch is that we have in east red breasted, white breasted and black capped chickadees and some flocks of Robinson things and we're actually more increasingly having wintering Eastern bluebirds here. Also, it's a nice diversity, although I'm not on the coast, so I don't get to see some of the cool stuff that Joanna has. Family chapel with a quick note about triple Finch is one of my favorite ways to tell purple finches and house inches apart piece by their vocalizations almost can never tell them apart by looking at them. But the purple Finch hasn't really spiraling and different cold like a watery kind of coal. Where is the house which has a very distinct ending? That goes upward? So I encourage new orders out there to try to learn some songs of birds when they're trying to go out and listen, because a lot of times you don't get to see them with their high up in the trees, But calls are a great way to go about it. Joanna. That's a great segue way to our next question from someone in our audience. Del one. Elder has a question about bird songs. Go ahead. Thank you for taking my call. How do you What's a good way to get started Learning how to identify birds based on their birdsong, ER calls? Yeah, The way I learned was basically by taking a phone or something. You can download the autobahn or Merlin happened. They have bird songs in there, and I would suggest just going out. If you hear something you can try to match it up in your phone and play the bird's song. Don't play too loud in my attract different birds, and I just tried it. Kind of match it up in the field. I think that's the best way. Of course you can practice at home, but it's always better not be hearing kind of the real burning one year and then you're the bird call in the other. Chapman ducked me if you have anything new suggest we do. Yeah, I remember way back in the day of CDs and things. I actually learned my bird songs by bringing along a stack of autobahn or someone who made CDs of bird songs, and I would stick him in my CD player as I was driving to go burning and I would be listening the entire way. So I was constantly listening to bird songs either on cassette or CD, and then I just learned him and I still now learn him every season. Do a little refresher and listen so that by the time birds.

"Means the data isn't gathered by people with scientific degrees Necessarily. Is the data still useful? The data is still extremely useful. Joinem attention. That's one of the only two Data sets that we have available to look at what's happening on a continental basis over time with the birds of North America, particularly but increasingly also in Latin America. The reason it isn't necessarily important for like trained ornithologist to be doing the Christmas bird count is because people go out in their own area and do the same thing in the same place every year with the same skill set. In the same way, so there's a consistency of the way. The results were collected overtime in each count circle, and therefore we get really good trend data, which we can then compare with the breeding bird survey, which is the other survey that we used to look at summer data. And it really does give us this amazing view into how birds are doing overtime and also how they're shifting their angels. Okay, let's go to our first question from the audience. Amy Wilkins. As a question about how to accurately count birds. I go ahead. My question is. How do you know you are not counting the same bird over and over again? Good question, Jeff, You have an answer for that. Yes, The Christmas for account has a methodology to it in that the people who are out in the field are actually moving along a route, and once they're done with their area and their route or roots, then they don't actually he counting birds when they're driving through somebody else's area. Spurs as h styles in my opinion honestly downgraded he went from. Joseph, Park to the seven foot three Jordan. When he could have just turned park into abyss as his bodyguard. People expected a lot more out of Joseph Park in his his law firm of Park Park and park and and what they were doing on smackdown that that one particular night. Way Too excited about that. This person says about wrestle kingdom mate event from a couple of days ago NATO less to three guys in the g one not an evil. Evil gets a title shot next. So he's out and this person says not lost in the finals I think he's out to I I. Don't know if I would say that he did not lose in the finals to Naito. So you could still do Sonata versus Naito night for the intercontinental title and then A. Bucci challenges him for either one or both titles depending on if you retains or not a night to I think that's actually the most likely scenario or vice versa, which is that Bucci gets his choice. He gets the title shot on the fourth. He takes that belt maybe sonatas pencilled in for the fifth and then he ends up taking the title and maybe we see. I'm not suggesting to see move with L. A. J.. But to be honest with you I, don't know you know as far as NATO and the intercontinental title or having the double titles there they may be. We'll see what happens but I could see them actually split IOS sooner rather than later, and that would actually be a good spots for not to be in holding onto the intercontinental title. Jobless claims barely fell last week, a sign recovery is stalling

"Obviously, from an economic perspective. We kicked off the show talking to Michael Maquis about this as I mentioned the jobless claims. What's the economic picture out there? That's developing. Well, the droppers can't claim to show that we're in a process that that is still winding its way through the economy. And maybe we're in the beginning of the second. Phase of the process where we know that some people in fact, in May you know some millions of people got hired. But at the same time that said, I think that the other part of the process is it continues his You know, I'm a business who realizes, you know, I don't need this many people because my business is not going to come back that quickly. I think that's one of the explanations are Bloomberg news team put forward. I think it's one possibility we did hear and read so much about these gigantic backlogs of applications that many state employment unemployment offices. I wonder if we aren't seeing just a little catch up there. Steven Stanley Curl in a note last week, said he has completely dropped Jobless claims as a reliable indicator. Oh, totally, and he talked about how there's the's different programs People are applying for, You know, the pandemic help from the federal government, etcetera, etcetera, And so sometimes they find a claim that hasn't been filed properly. They spit it back. It comes back, and then they maybe someone gets double counted. So I just think that I was Steven Stanley. Let's don't put too much emphasis on this. Hey, Andrew Husband E. You're joining? Asked Bloomberg Economics, US economist on the phone from New Jersey. Do you agree that weekly jobless claims? Are you guys still spending a lot of time focusing on those numbers? We certainly are. Certainly I think it's more qualitative and finding the tight quantitative link between claims in something like payroll because I think the point is generally right. It proved Relatively poor guide on the extent of job is it claims expected job losses in May We got a night and increase in payrolls in that month. So it certainly from that perspective, Yes, but I think, directionally. I think it will tell us how re opening is proceeding in terms of That new hiring and certainly on that front. The momentum is seems to float a bit. But Kathleen points out. There are certainly some caveats. You have to take into account here, but they do. At least at the moment show that there are about 30 million, still claiming benefits on thes two main programs that are in place right now, so it's certainly a sizable number that needs to get work through and many, according to our team's analysis, simply either can't return quickly or more importantly, even in sort of an upside case, you know the really allocation and the shock to the job market are going to prevent a lot of these jobs from coming

Yeah I mean you could say, maybe get doesn't know that there was a false count like maybe I just don't know like she's been handed the title and that was kind of the story and she had a double count out on a false count as two defenses. Trump ramps up attacks against mail-in voting

"Even amid the continuing health crisis. Trump is ramping up another giant distraction using missed truths and made up assertions to try to discredit voting by mail in our country. Why should somebody who is afraid of getting corona virus going to public places standing in line etc? Why should they not? Why should they not be allowed to to mail in when you do all mail in voting ballots you're asking for fraud people steal them out of mailboxes? People printed them and then they sign them and they give him in that. The people don't even know what they're double-counted people take away. They force people to vote they harvest. You know what harvesting is they take many many ballots and they put them all together and then they just dump them and nobody has any idea whether they're crooked or not. We're not gonNA destroy this country by allowing things like that to happen. We're not destroying country. This has more to do with an honesty and really our country itself because when that starts happening you don't have a fair. You have a rig system you have a rigged system no evidence to support any of those

Minnesotans in the mix at UN climate summit in Madrid

"MINNESOTANS in the mix at the international climate summit in Madrid. I'm NPR chief meteorologist. Paul Kutner with climate cats. The world's latest COP twenty five climate summit wraps up in Madrid this week. What's the specific focus of this latest climate summit? Sarah Sarah Good. Speed is the youth and policy manager at Minnesota's climate generation. She attended the meetings and joins me via skype from Madrid this week. Hi Sarah how. Aw what are the key. Areas of focus and negotiations at this particular meeting. Well there are a lot of different working groups trying to work out. It's a rule book on the parents agreements so this includes how countries will be counting their emissions reductions. What kinds of projects counts? And what kind of regulations. Those projects need to fall under in order to safeguard communities and to effectively reduce emissions rather than just counting counting projects. That folks we already doing or double-counting those projects then negotiators are sent in to amplify their own countries perspectives. I want you to listen to this comment from Executive Secretary for UN Climate Change Patricia Espinosa. And get your reaction on the other side each year the call. We're told that the window of opportunity could close soon ministers. They window of opportunity. Is this closing now Sarah. We know that climate scientists are conveying. The sense of urgency is that getting through to policymakers in Madrid. I would agree with the sentiments of Patricia. The NOSSA WE are hearing that from all sides youth are calling for indigenous. People have been calling for it and that's really not translating into the action that we need you know we've for years been talking about the potential for things like sea level rise and forced I migration were actually seeing that already begin to happen in certain parts of the world and right here in the United States. What's the discussion about forced migration due to the already early impacts of climate change forest migration is actually one of the themes that climate generation is looking into this year ear? As we're here at COP I've been in a number of discussions both with frontline communities we're experiencing migration or who are facing displacement from their homelands homelands as well as with countries were trying to prepare to receive migrants and so there is a lot of discussion around looking for different ways that we can model solutions in. It's not necessarily translating again into formal commitments by countries to support those solutions yet. And what have you found most interesting cop twenty five so far I have been very powerfully struck by the representation of youth and indigenous voices. They've been incredibly powerful voices and I hope that our negotiators across different countries are really starting and to hear them and stand behind them as they create these new policies. Sir We talk on climate cast and we know people can all make personal changes to reduce our carbon urban footprints but how important are the bigger structural changes. There's no amount of personal action that can equal the systemic structural changes changes that we really need to achieve our goals. We are here in Madrid and advocating for those larger structural changes that make it possible for for individuals to make the right choices and for all of our infrastructure to reflect the green feature that we really need Syra goodspeed. He was just he was just there to counteract solely for the most part. I think the best thing that could have done was like half dislike like empty up the scruple spears and cody like journal cody while he was in a corner many that i said i think it would have been better if <hes> m m j just turned on cody adam where he screws. They did a good tease with that. Yeah yeah <hes> i was. It's actually done it. During the match i do not and the reason i do not as i think that's a good story that you can build throughout television and keep going because right now. Where's m._j. The f. anything nothing he's only right now. He's cody's frank right but as a promo guy he's amazing. Everyone is talking about him but as far as what he's doing in the company nothing it doesn't win doesn't have a loss matches. He he's literally is just sitting there so for him to. I have a predominant art on tv. That story needs to continue playing out and you can do more tv matches with m._g._m. Spears or anything like that to finally get him into to the wrestling mix but culminating ish that story line for the m._g._m. Turn at all out before live t._v. I think would is a real early depold z. What were your reactions to the cody and spears. Were not a fucking. Tell you that much. I'm joe on this. One like you build up shawn spears to be your number two heel in the company and then and didn't have them go over cody but then you had cody go to a draw with darby ellen the paper before so breath. If you want shawn spears to be credible he'll you can't have him loons because now that he lost makes him technically louis desirable than darby allen and yeah and he could have cheated to win that would have been great immorally these guys disagree agree with me because cody just went to a draw with darby ellen but they could have fought to a draw or a double count out or something that progresses the storyline without <music> out making one of them looked at. I agree with the double count out. The double is the only thing i when if those who are saying if it's joe in midair saying they just did a <hes> a draw route then yes. They backdated a deal that that actually signed today was their data entry problem in salesforce for somebody to put it in something wrong. Did you double count something that you didn't mean to double count their data pipeline problem where data updated a bad way like all of those things up becoming just as i do i figure out what the hell happened often. You don't have any real record of what the system was before you. I just know it used to say that now. It says one and a half and you're like i have to figure this out and those are the types of problems that are the headaches for data analysts and the ones that you end up finding signing yourselves in all the time and the more systems that you have in place that lets you say oh yeah. It's one and a half because we backdated a deal or because you know there's other thing happened it it the faster you can answer that the easier job is but more importantly the more trust at the rest of the organization will have in your job because you're not spending all this time trying to explain explain number which when you actually standby from the perspective of somebody who is working so closely with data analysts and with companies who have data engineering hearing teams as well as consuming some of these managed services for data platforms. I'm curious what you have seen in terms of industry trends is that you're most excited by from your perspective as an analyst and some of the things that you are currently concerned by the like to see addressed so i think that we've seen like this isn't. This isn't really a technology but i think it's one of the places where the business sort of industry can go that generally narrowly industry has made like very big strides in enabling of day to day data driven decision making <hes>. We've done a lot about you know. How do we get data in front of in front of people around the business how quickly how when i am making a decision as a sales rep with who i call today or marketing manager which campaigns focus oh is on. How do i how do that make that decision. I think we've made a lot of progress in that front. One of the places where i think we now as an industry concert sir turn and focus more on is businesses aren't driven by these daily optimizations and businesses.

"I'm lucky to have a conversation with Bill right now about the politics of twenty nineteen looking to the election of twenty twenty and we turn to Biden to buy new is doing very well in the democratic polling for the nomination and he has many other challenges. But I wanna talk to the way Joe Biden responded to the president's quip about how Joe Biden abandoned, Pennsylvania. The facts are that Joe Biden up in Scranton is father was well to do, and then fell on hard times in the early fifties. And then made a choice to go. Be used car salesman in Delaware and did very well. Joe turns it into a melodrama. I like this because it reminds me of I love Lassie. All right yesterday. Donald Trump tried to attack me, this campaign rally by saying, I abandoned Pennsylvania. This is an Email. I have from Joe Biden gave his campaign a dollar. And so I'm I roller, they send me all the big stuff. Well, John, it reads, I've never forgotten where I came from my family did have to leave Pennsylvania. When I was ten we moved to Delaware, where my dad found a job that could provide for our family. Let's be clear on this isn't just about me. This is proof that Donald Trump doesn't understand the struggles, working folks, go through I'll stop there because it's time for the Hanky. All right. Fun bell. Joe Biden is a potentate in the United States of America is former vice president Senator for most of the second half of the twentieth century, he is not working class. He and he never was working class, nor is he Assad. Absorb and he's telling one so how do you read do I read this? He is. He is presenting himself so working class that he's going to come up with this fiction. Does this does this does this communicate with the Democrats who voted for Trump in, in sixteen? Well, so for fellow bene- politics, for goodness, it's going to be half century in twenty twenty two somebody who was generally like peace, not necessarily sympathetic. Well, maybe if you know, the story about the moving his wife and kids earlier, but you don't normally feel something that Joe Biden, so I guess, playing the victim card against Donald Trump makes a little more sympathetic. And I guess actually makes them more relatable as the guy being pushed around by the bully. But here's what I don't understand part of the mystique. Let's call it a mistake right now, John because he's got so much favorable ink on this. But the mistake that Joe Biden is tough, and then he can fight fire with fire. He can give back good as he gets this is giving back as good as you get necessarily, so it can be heard saying, look forward to see how Biden handled personal attacks Donald Trump. I'm also confused John to why Donald Trump is going after Joe Biden, so much, it's unusual in Covent, president gets this involved in the other party's primary, but Trump to understand some level that he L. Bates, the opposition, whoever he picks on that day on Twitter, that the gift from heaven, for that candidate that makes them that puts them in the news, that makes us to raise money instead emails like the one, you're reading. I'm not sure why he wants to make Biden that focus think he might pick on somebody who is a little less electable Joe, bud. We're coming to the democratic debates. They're going to start the twenty three or twenty four candidates. I get confused because I think double count, sometimes, but in any event, there's, there's there, maybe nearly two dozen of them and my candidate and I submit this to Bill, my candidate for emerging, I to challenge, Joe Biden surpremacy, as Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, she's policy. Heavy she's very good on television. And I believe it when she swings I believe she means to hit somebody when she swings. Yes. Now, they're still roll your eyes moments with more in the most notable uncoming yesterday when she decided to video with AO. On the last episode of game of thrones. They went off on a discourse about how the show was written by Ben, blah, blah, blah, often, plus, you have to do this, but he has to be feared in a debate, it's the luckiest Democrats will be the ones who get on that debate stage, which you'll buy minder standing is that they're going to do two segments debates..

Human Networks Change How We Think

"It turns out that social structures can not only shape the way we think and behave. It can also inform. Our very outlook on life at least. That's according to our guest today. Matthew jackson? He's a professor of economics at Stanford University and the author of a new book called the human network. How your social position determines your power beliefs? And behaviors in the book, he explains how social structures are human networks shape. How we think and behave here's what he told me when I asked how can social structures? Hold back. Something is powerful is the human mind. There's one example I talked through in book, which is find always. Amazing. There was a study in one thousand nine hundred seven by a guy named sir Francis. Golden, and what he did is he looked at affair. Well, where people put in guesses on the weight of an ox? So there was an ox there. And this was in England, the ox weighed eleven hundred ninety eight pounds, and he looked through seven hundred and eighty seven guesses, so you know, wide range guesses and people were all over the map in terms of the guesses, but the average Gus was eleven hundred and ninety seven pounds. So it was just one pound off of the actual, you know, it. So it's somehow if you put all the people together, they're really wise, you know, people all our information when his aggregated can be really really good. But the question is how you get that information. And you know, we're so one thing is we're we're in our own bubbles in terms of the Somali awfully we're we're segregated from other people. So a lot of the information we're getting from people who think just like us which biases us. And then another feature is it's really. Easy for us to do double counting. When we're in a network. So for instance, you know, think about I some a new movie comes out and a bunch of my friends tell me that they've heard it too great movie. So the more people I hear that from the more likely. I am to think it's a great movie, but it could be that they all heard the same review or read the same review. So it could be that. It's just one piece of information, but it's echoing through the through the network, and there's a lot of examples where one piece of news gets rebroadcast and rechannel to a bunch of different sources, and you know, as humans were influenced by the more, you know, counting simple counting the more. We hear things the more. We we believe it. And that means that, you know, if we're segregated groups, and we're susceptible to the sort of double counting. It can be very difficult for us to get information. And to really understand it in a it. So it's it's a tricky business isn't this how the whole anti effects are movement started. There was one. One study that out and it got widely reported on. And then it just cascaded from their exactly that's that's an amazing example. Because the first study that was done was done on twelve children that were hand selected by somebody who turns out was being paid by somebody suing vaccine company. It was a fraudulent study. He lost his license to be a doctor. The study was later retracted, but it was reported everywhere. So people were hearing about it in all kinds of news sources, and and it keeps echoing now you can still find sites to that study. And you know, there have been many many studies with hundreds of thousands of people since then I've never found any relationship. And but that that one study, you know, still echoes in the network and very strong beliefs about that on the word network keeps coming up so the social networking and the way we're all more connected than ever these days. Would you say that that's making all this worse? Or better is a good or bad. Yeah. I think that, you know, the great news is that it's connecting the world and. As we've never been connected before. So you know, somebody who's poor in rural. India can be taking an online course and machine learning. So there's just amazing things that are happening. But at the same time, it also means that we can also search for other people who whoever are exactly are same views create these echo chambers, where people share ideas, and and end up reflecting the same opinions and beliefs and an insulate themselves from the rest of the world. And so there are these two competing forces of becoming more connected overall. But then also becoming more cliquish and and separated at the same time, and we see that play out in terms of polarization and extreme views quite a

"Oh anger Rila monsoon. San Martino loses by dick, Hugh, and he's bloody in the process. There's eight. Eighteen thousand fans here probably would have been more had been buddy Rogers. But when body, but when Bobby our buddy pulls out that number changes, the do a rematch a couple of weeks later, and I got to a double count out, but it draws another sell out at Madison Square Garden, and then finally in November of sixty three there's another sell out in San Martino finally gets his win. And now the monsoon feud with Bruno can go on the road towns like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington DC. Pretty big deal. The the idea that a Roger San Martino rematch slides in an opportunity for Rila absolutely in. It was another one of those situations. He made the most out of in those legendary to work with Bruno in the sixties and have more than one match with Bruno at the time. You were made you were a top guy because you can say, hey, I worked the guard sold garden out. "And they that's what they expect. Because that's what they've seen on TV. So it was looking at citizen attraction here and thinking that if we can get him over to a point then by God is going to draw some money for us. Get to summer, slam ninety six SIDS working with the British bulldog. Here said gets the win six minutes and twenty four seconds. Boy, sure was but not so much even on on SIDS part other than his reaction, which was a damn good in big reaction. But this was the summer slam of the infamous, Sean Vader match that Bater was just off. He and Sean didn't gel, and we looked at that. At that point said, this isn't going to work going all the way to Royal rumble that we had planned with Vader eventually taking the championship in November two defending it in the Alamo dome against Sean. We had change gears pretty damn quick. The go-to. Sid vader. Exa wrestling MSG on August night. They go to a double count out on August twenty four th you guys are running in Toronto. "They're not asking to repeal the Obama era standard, but they are weakening the justification for it. As you mentioned earlier, the appropriate and necessary is the standard of the Clean Air Act. And that's kind of subjective. But when you can show that the cost of implementing a rule is much higher than any benefit you make it harder to make the case that it's appropriate and necessary. And that's what they're saying. Is they wanted to Termine that the Obama rule was not appropriate and necessary and leave the door open to a future rollback of the rule or that in a in a future case of a new power plant comes online, they may not have to be held to those same standards. You know, I should know that we reached out to Murray Energy Corporation. You know, a big player in the industry. Here we invited their CEO Robert Murray to the program, they declined. But a spokesperson emailed us a statement that reads very similarly to. The statement that was sent to us by the national mining association as well. And they both essentially say what you were telling us earlier that they don't see the need for these mercury regulations or well, specifically these the co benefits right because they say the Clean Air Act already requires EPA to directly assess and regulate the impacts of fine particulates. So that double-counting that they're pointing to. I mean, don't don't don't they have a point. Well, I mean that that is the argument here. I mean, yes, there are EPA regulations that specifically governed particular matter these tiny particles that go deep into the lungs and can cause asthma attacks and heart attacks and similarly for sulfur dioxide and other compounds that cause smog and other kinds of health problems. But the argument the EPA made under the Obama administration is even though those rules exist by adding this additional mercury rule, we're reducing those pollutants even further so they're saying that we're actually seeing an additional benefit beyond what the existing rules, actually say. And that's why it's fair to count those benefits. Now, the industry says that well if you want the benefits from reducing particulates monarch just make it under the particular rule. Why why do you have to lump it in with mercury? And you know, maybe that's something that the courts have to ultimately settle into side. But for the Obama administration. I mean that was the calculus that that essentially the their argument was they weren't double counting because they were seeing an additional benefit by implementing a new rule rather than some of the existing rules that were already in place. Well, I also want to note that we did reach out to the national mining association and requested that their president Hal Quinn. Join us and day declined. But they sent us. That's the statement that the read very similarly to the ones from Murray energy as I as I read just a second ago. Amir stand by here for just a second because I want to bring in Janet McCabe. She's joining us from Indianapolis, and she served in and later led the office of air and radiation at the Environmental Protection Agency during the Obama administration. She played a really key role in framing and implementing the Clean Air Act standards, including the mercury and air, toxics standards or Matt's Janet, McCabe, welcome to one point high Magna. Thanks so much for having me. So we'll dive further into the details here. But I just want to get your take on how much of a change of philosophical shift. Would it be if this EP this new EPA proposal went through and the way that the cost and benefits for mercury regulations were calculated changed? I mean, how how how how much of an impact would it have? Oh, this is hugely significant. And I think you have put your finger on the importance of this in one of the things for people to know is that this rule has already been implemented by the industry. So it's in the rear view mirror as far as they're concerned. And we can talk about the implications of that in a minute. So in in one sense, you might say well, so why why? Why would he do this now?.
