Ballot blocks: the squeeze on Hong Kong

"The squeeze on political freedoms in Hong Kong is ramping up and fast. On Friday, the territory's Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced September's planned elections would be postponed for a year and poss- sediments. I've always had to make difficult decisions but then the announcement I have to make today is the most difficult decision that I have to make in the. Insisted, the delay was only to avoid the spread of COPA, nineteen. The decision to postpone them the training train t electrical election has nothing to do with politics has nothing to do with a likely outcome of this round of. PRO-DEMOCRACY PARTIES, AD HOC for success in the poll riding a wave of discontent at Beijing's recent imposition of sweeping national security law. The legislation broadly defines and harshly punishes subversion sedition collusion with foreigners. Nathan law one of Hong Kong's most prominent pro-democracy activists recently spoke with our sister podcast economists asks why? Phones. Movement is still really strong though there have been protests against the new law. The millions of people who wants surged onto the streets have largely stayed home is police have cracked down harder just try to imagine if you live. In a country place that that is no freedom of expression freedom of them fraiche ethan freedom of thoughts. Then definitely, like protests does not exist or will be lushly quashed earlier last week, twelve pro-democracy candidates were banned from running whenever the elections happened. On Saturday, on Kong's police issued arrest warrants for six political activists living in exile in the West. Since the promulgation of the national security nor on July the first of the scope for political expression has been very much. Dominic Ziegler writes Banyan, our call him on Asian affairs. And because of that, there haven't been any street protests. of any size since July the first because of the consequences. For those taking part. But nevertheless, there has been widespread concern about postponing the election by a year, the Bar Association, representing senior barristers and other lawyers in the territory has expressed what it called grave concern and it said that a decision to postpone September's elections for the Legislative Council, which is known as Mexico was undermining a vital constitutional rights and so what does that mean in practice? What happens with the sitting lawmakers? There are all sorts of implications about what it. Means in practice because hitherto Hong Nor has been very clear you have to hold elections for this quasi-democratic legislature every four years. So the government of Kerry lamb, the chief executive is in a bit of a pickle about how it justifies this. Although she said, it was for reasons of the pandemic several other jurisdictions have been able to carry out elections, and that includes recently elections. In Singapore, there are certainly suspicions that the decision was taken not because of. The pandemic, but because Democrats had a good chance in fact. Gaining for the first time a majority in this rather gerrymandered council and indeed even obstructing a government policy or criticizing the government has it has been suggested by the authorities the risk of falling foul of the new. National Security Law. So this decision is absolutely shot through with politics, but nevertheless to take some finessing by the government. To show that the move is legitimate, the chances are that how it will manage that is to get a ruling from on high from Beijing saying that this is the appropriate course and it's worth bearing in mind that Beijing has always since Hong Kong's return to China. Has Always had the authority to intervene in Hong Kong's has the understanding would be that this would happen only rarely. But in the last few weeks, we've seen it happening time and time again, I think this is going to be the practice for the future. But what about the the the candidates who were banned from running here is, is there a risk that that Beijing will start to essentially stack the LegCo with with loyalists there in this interim year? This certainly is a risk Jason the bear in mind that all the moves around legend. have been made in order to ensure that the pro democratic camp does not secure a majority in the legislature. Now early last week, the authorities did this by disqualifying a dozen also candidates caming that even for criticizing the National Security Law that gave the government grounds for not allowing them to run. Now, a few dozen candidates actually sit in the current Legislative Council. So one big question that the authorities have to find an answer to is whether those four legislators continue to sit in a council session is is now being extended by a year. The chances are that the government will find means to disqualify. Those four and Beijing's moves go further than that. Recently, they're speaking of arresting pro-democracy activists outside of the territory, which is also unusual. That's right has happened in the past week on July the twenty ninth four students were detained for supposedly inciting secession. This seems to have had something to do with facebook page and shortly after became clear that the police had put on a wanted list, a number of activists who are currently in exile. So, there is an example for instance of how China intends for this new national security in order have jurisdiction beyond the borders of the country itself. These people were in the United States, the UK and elsewhere. One of them was not even a Hong Kong citizen better taken up US citizenship and so as as Beijing's hands gets heavier in Hong Kong Antoine Indeed all over the world. How are people coping normal life goes on so far as both the virus and the new political restrictions allow what is certainly happened is that the street protests that so colored and royal the territory last year are now very much a thing of the past. So the act the concerned the worry that. Has. Taken hold in the territory is one that is not always voiced publicly but in private conversations and the concerns really are about Hong Kong's long-term future. One of the possibility is certainly that many people discussing is immigration and a number of countries have. Roots towards long term permanent residency or even citizenship. Those countries include the United Kingdom Australia Canada, the United States. But many people are not in a position to leave immediately. But what happens now with all of the momentum that was behind the protesters but this whole movement now that protests themselves have died down to the protesters are moving abroad. What happens now it looks like well, over half of Hong Kong's population is in favor of democratic change but the possibilities for that through politics and through the ballot box have been very sharply restricted in in recent weeks. So there's a conversation emerging. About what form opposition should take? So people are starting to draw parallels with the Eastern European bloc during the Soviet era too many people here the national security nor is starting to look like the Ray quick building of the Berlin Wall in the early nineteen sixties and people are drawing comparisons with opposition in the decades following that in eastern Europe and that opposition took perform of underground dissident, it took the form of dissident writers and The church played a big role in eastern. Europe. Some hope that it may do here in Hong Kong one positive sign has been taken from last year's protests is an extraordinary. Creativity in in the form of protest art in the form of. Video making. So the hope is that maybe these avenues might at least allow a civil society not only to to hang on by its fingertips but also to grow. Don Thank you very much for your time fact Jason. America's recent protests against racism and police brutality have drawn much interest in the Middle East. Some people have reacted with shock some with Schadenfreude. For others though America's unrest was an opportunity to discuss the problems with race in their own countries. Most Arab states have a black minority, each of which faces its own discrimination. The worst treatment though is reserved for migrants. There is a scene that played out almost every day for weeks for months outside of the Ethiopian embassy here in Beirut he would see cars pull up and drop off their passengers if the OB and women who were carrying their possessions and suitcases are in bags. Great girls from is our Middle East correspondent based in Lebanon these weren't women catching plane or catching a train. They had nowhere to go actually word maids, domestic workers whose employers. Could no longer afford to pay them because of the economic crisis here in Lebanon also couldn't send them home because the airport was largely closed because of covid one, thousand, nine, hundred, and so they dump them off outside the embassy they simply left them there to be someone else's problem. You would meet women who said they'd been sitting there on the curb for days on end using their bags as pillows simply left the fend for themselves. And isn't that kind of a general comment on how Lebanon treats migrant domestic workers? It is even before cove in nineteen. Before the economic crisis, there was widespread racism and harsh treatment of migrant workers here there are a number of cases where Lebanese have advertised their maids on facebook as if they were property, there was a post back in April that offered a Nigerian made who was described as being very active and very clean and she. was being sold for one and a half million Lebanese pounds, which is worth about a thousand dollars at the official exchange rates. There was also a clip that was circulated widely here in Lebanon in June it was from a television channel in Ghana that covered the return of two hundred or so Ghanaian citizens from Lebanon most of them. One, hundred, eighty of them were women working as domestic workers here, and they described horrendous conditions and treatments. Fit. After that sexual harassment. They bit s like animals. I have videos of this. I went through in that country and they also warned other people not to follow them to Lebanon not to come here to work. No. Doubt Music and go back to Lebanon is not a country that we should be. How does this situation come about? Where for instance, an people find themselves trapped with arguably abusive employers often starts with unscrupulous recruiters are agents migrants who come here to other countries in the middle. East. Are often promised good salaries, respectful working conditions and they arrive and find out that it's anything. But but then they find themselves trapped for two reasons. One is they often have to take out loans to pay fees to these recruiters and the loans can run thousand dollars two. Thousand dollars which when you're making only a few hundred dollars a month and you're trying to send much of that to your families back home it can take many months if not years to pay off those loans. So they find themselves trapped by debt. They also find themselves trapped by something called the Catholic system, which again exists here in Lebanon and many other countries in the Middle East whereby migrant workers are bound to their field or their sponsor, and so they can't simply. Changed jobs because their residency in their work permit is connected to their sponsor, and if they leave that job, they have to leave the country. So you meet migrants who say despite the awful conditions they're making more money here than they would make back home, and so they're willing to they're forced to continue to put up with US conditions because they're blocked from finding another job, and so all of this is a function of how the Lebanese feel about migrants or is this. Strictly a racial thing. It's hard to separate the two because almost all of the migrants here are either from east and South Asia or from Africa. So it's often connected to race as well as their status being migrant workers but the racism here it cuts across socio-economic lines I spoke with a black diplomat too says been pursued through upscale shopping malls Lebanon by security guards thought she was a housekeeper and they wanted to know why she was shopping without her madame without her employer. So Racist, certainly a problem here and in other countries around the Middle East and not only when it comes to migrants states across the Arab world have black minorities. You have Egypt for example, the Nubians who have been there for thousands of years you have in the Levant and the Gulf states black communities that are often the descendants of slaves taken by Islamic empires or the descendents of African Muslims who made pilgrimages to places like Saudi Arabia and decided to stay again, those communities face various kinds of commission as well. Would you mean by that? Will you hear some of it? Simply in the language that people use darker skinned people referred to with terms like opt, which means slave Anwar Sadat was president of Egypt darker skin than his predecessor was sometimes referred to as his predecessors black poodle you turn on the television in the Middle East and black face is fairly common sight on Arabic language television and no doubt that kind of racism manifests in in everyday life in lots of ways, it does you see it in areas of life. March choice of partner you have families that will see skin color as a marker for Associate Comic Status Lighter skinned people seen as being wealthier and more educated. You see it in the workplace as well in Iraq, for example, where there's a black community that has been there for at least a thousand years they to this day struggle to obtain government jobs and they're often relegated to doing menial work and living on the outskirts of society. You see it as well in the Gulf states where there's almost a racial hierarchy to employment. If you walk into a Nice Hotel and the Gulf you might see black migrants from Africa working as security guards or as porters. You will see them far less often in jobs that require interaction with customers. Waiters hairdressers, things like that those jobs which are better paid than less taxing often go to lighter skinned workers from Asia or from Arab countries I mean racism has been very much on the agenda over the past few months because of the the killing of George Floyd protests that erupted across the world did that wave of protests hit the Arab world as well? The protests themselves. Didn't reach the Arab world. This is a region fortunately protest often a criminal offence of we didn't see much in the way in street demonstrations either in solidarity or around the region's own issues with racism but it has certainly escalated the conversation that's taking place both online and offline. There was a video that circulated quite widely earlier this summer was shot by a Palestinian actress condit's. Who recounted some of the just casual bigotry that she's heard and day-today Life Semis Ben Aston Headache. Mariam. People often argue that it's harmless. It's just words. And allow. Them. One of the points that she was trying to make in this video is that it does hurt people and that it does have an influence not only on the targets of it but on societies broader attitude towards Black Arabs, and do you think having these kinds of discussions on social media and the like will make much of a difference? Is it enough having a conversation about these? Things is certainly better than nothing. But one thing that we've seen certainly in America through years and years and years of protests against racism and police brutality is that just having a conversation doesn't actually bring political change or social change. That's something that takes a long time and it also takes concerted effort in politics and education, and unfortunately one of the problems in countries across this region. Is that there are few avenues to do that, and so it's good to have a conversation about these things but. The ways that you actually go about making concrete change. Unfortunately, those ways are often blocked in the middle. East. Thanks very much for joining US greg.

Except over the past year, China has told the world that it can't take all of our junk anymore. Why not? Well, we humans have generated too much of it and recycling all of that crash has become too difficult for China. So, what does that mean for how we recycle our garbage? Well, it means that in many cities in America and even in other countries they stopped recycling. Just stopped, recycling like Dennis. Mandy. I didn't stop recycling I never started gay Roz, if they're not recycling than what's happening with all that cardboard and plastic, well, a lot of it is being incinerated or burned. "Everything all week just to give you the top five stories, and this week we're going to kick it off with the four major tech CEOs appearing before Congress. And as I looked at it, and as I watched the bits and pieces of it, it started to remind me of something, and I thought, What was that? What is that? I looked up in Webster's dictionary online, the definition of gas lighting. You know what that means? Gas lighting. It's a form of psychological manipulation. Distorting the truth. To confuse aren't still doubt is the official definition until the other person questions reality. Interview With Gary Beeber

"Well. Hello everyone, and welcome to another podcast from frames magazine. My name is Scott Ulsan today I have the real honor and the real pleasure of talking with a member of the frames community Gary Bieber. Gary's work is most recently known to those of us on the frames. Website. For a shot called moonlight of a pool slide but his work goes well, well, well beyond all of that he's been featured his films have been featured in more than eighty five film festivals. His photographs are collected by fortune five hundred companies and shown in galleries all around the world He is a photographer of immense breadth and really really interesting depth to the content Gary. Welcome. How are you doing today? I'm doing great. Thank you. The now now is a great in intro you WanNa work for me. I'll make my next career just writing intros for people. How about that? I I WANNA start with the picture that most people have frames will know you buy and that is the picture moonlight. Now I gotTa Tell You I'm a midwestern kid I'm a suburban kid born in Kansas. City grew up in Chicago. That pool slide is as iconic for me as it is for anyone else when I I thought I was really struck. So tell tell me the story of that picture. How did IT COME TO BE? Well I This is part of a big series and every night possible a ido out on I photograph fly and the slide we we moved here. Three years ago, and the first thing I saw I had seen it because I didn't actually see the house but the first thing I saw was at full slide and that was the first thing I wanted to get rid of. And fellow while the stress strangely enough one night for the hell of it I took a picture of it. And I was just for the hell of I posted on facebook not nine what the response. Would be on the response was huge. It was the biggest response I had ever got up told that time and repeat where people responding to their own memories of pool slides or to the quality of the image or what was the response about well, the quality of the image was not fantastic because I talked with my cell phone I'm apt to do that too. But I think people responded I always think people respond to a picture because at south. Maybe. Brings. Back. Childhood memories or whatever. But. In any event I what I do as I out all the time if it's there for me as right there and it changes all the time I started do just love it and I started to See it as an art object like I started to see it as a sculpture and it changes in you know all times a year all times day and I I just I just really. I don't know. There's something about it i. think it symbolizes for me suburbia. And I. Was GonNA ask about the title why did you call it suburbia versus pool slide versus Vita versus anything else? Because to me just. At just symbolizes leaving suburbia on it doesn't. You. Know I don't know that they even really happy mate pool slides like that anymore. I don't know maybe they do but I just thought as something Why does it symbolize loud I? Mean that's just like AMERICOM. And that's what I liked about. I should tell people who are listening that. You can see this image on the frames website. You can also go to Gary's own website Gary Bieber dot. com. And see it as part of the suburbia series. It's a very simple slide. It's got a slight bend to the left as you come down but it's not one of these contemporary overly complicated deals. It's very flowing very graceful. Why? If I may on I. I didn't do a two. All am I use photoshop obviously. But I really didn't do all that much with that image with an image, I did use some lighting. and kind of a yellowish lighting on that. And it just. So happens like a couple of times a year on you get the you get the move in that position usually there's nothing the except cloud sometimes it's over that slot and got it at the right possession and I shot it I probably Shaw. Hundred pictures, white bath that night and I I really didn't have to do all that much to it, and then a Lotta Times all US duo town because I love that. but I just did pretty much a straight on color shot.

5 Retirement Mistakes You Might Be Making That Could Be Keeping You From Financial Freedom by Phil Town

"Five retirement mistakes you might be making that could be keeping you from financial freedom by Phil town of rule one investing dot. com. If you want to retire comfortably and many Americans believe they are preparing to do. So in the best way, possible chances are good that you're just not making the returns you need in order to retire when you want to often the obstacles we face have more to do with the mistakes we make when it comes to investing for retirement. The problem is most people have no idea whether or not they are on the right plan towards building their retirement wealth retirement planning can be tricky for. A few reasons. The first reason is that a lot of different factors affect how you plan for retirement. These include things like your salary how much you're saving the investment returns you're getting currently and the benefits you're getting from your retirement account. Another factor is that everyone's actual retirement plan is different. This leaves things very open to varying opinions and options when it comes to what you should do with your money. Generally, retirement planning is about timing and about not losing money, which is rule number one. That brings me to the question of what's the best way to save for retirement. The best way is to learn to invest find companies that you love and understand and buy them when they're on sale when you do that, you're almost guaranteed to not lose money. There is no one-size-fits-all retirement plan for everyone, but there is a place where everyone should start with that in mind. Here are five retirement mistakes to avoid and what to do if you found yourself in a situation where you made any of them. One you haven't saved enough for retirement. Mistake number one is that you haven't saved enough for that. You haven't saved at all when I first started investing I hadn't saved anything, but the money that you invest is going to make you more money than anything else in your whole life. So the earlier you start the better crank down your expenses and crank up the income every dollar you can get into that retirement account now is going to make a huge difference for you down the road. To your borrowing from your retirement money to pay expenses. Mistake number two is that you are borrowing from your retirement money to pay your expenses. You can't do this spend money only on the things you need people often make the mistake of lifestyle creep. This is what happens when you start to make more money and you buy a more expensive car or House with it quit trying to impress people that you don't like anyway if you're spending out of your retirement account, it is crucial that you leave that alone if you spend that money you're going to get penalized by getting. Neither of those things is a good idea. Three you're paying too much interest on bad debt. Mystique number three is you're paying too much interest on bad debt. First of all, you shouldn't be paying very much interest right now interest rates are at historical lows. If you're paying eighteen percent interest than something very bad is happening forget about investing. If you have a lot of credit card debt, the first thing you have to do is get rid of that bad debt. If you could make eighteen percent a year, you're doubling your money every four years you don't WanNa double someone else's money every four years. Another kind of bad debt is when you're borrowing money to buy, you don't need don't be borrowing money to go to the mall that's mall investing, and that's not a great idea save whatever you have to pay down your bad debt as fast as you can. For your becoming inactive physically and socially. This one doesn't have to do with money, but with your well being, it's easy to become inactive physically and socially this will play a big part in your retirement years. You've got to be active physically and you've got to be active socially. For example, there's a retirement community down in Florida called the villages, which has one, hundred, ten, thousand seniors, and what they all have in common is their socially interactive and they're very physically active. They have something like one hundred golf courses down there when I went down there to play Polo, three, thousand people came out to watch and the old wanted to learn about the game staying active and social is so important especially in retirement. Five you're not taking investing seriously enough. Mistake number five is that you're not taking investing seriously enough. This one happens to a lot of people because they just don't think they can do it in our podcast with my daughter Danielle she admits that she doesn't take investing seriously yet. She didn't even want to learn how to invest, but that's all about fear and not knowing where to start think about buying stocks like making any meaningful purchase you do a ton of research before buying a new car or a new house right? You can handle this investing is no different than that. When you take it seriously, it's going to change your life.

Getting older versions of APPs for these older ipad models initially from Apple's. APP store is getting very difficult and problematic. As of the beginning of two thousand and nineteen many third party, APP developers are all more quickly and completely permanently dropping older APP support for all eight nine and ten year old IOS devices that are running two and three year old earlier IOS versions specifically Iowa's ten and earlier. Third Party APP developers removing all their older legacy versions of their APPs from Apple's APP. Store servers. Third Party APP. Developers no longer want to support these eight and nine year old or older. Devices there's simply no financial incentive for them to do so. Older versions of APPS are soon going to be gone for good. Apple considers these ipads. Vintage models, indicating these old IPADS have reached their complete end of life and support cycles. So these old IPADS that can no longer be upgraded or updated lab, no more applications for initial download at all from the apple store. Thus making these older ipads unusable from a practical sense. If you own one of these eight or nine year old IPADS, they will be pretty much obsolete by the end of twenty twenty, so looking soon with the fall launch for a new or slightly used ipad is in order. I understand what the current economic climate covert nineteen pandemic purchasing a new IPAD is not possible for everyone. If this is the case, many people will be upgrading and looking to sell or donate their devices at a greatly reduced price. If MAC minutes can help you with your tech. "Dot com which is pretty interesting some very very serious and intelligent people over there with all kinds of excellent backgrounds they say reported cases of this flu don't include people who may have the flu excuse me the virus but have not yet been diagnosed because its incubation period is two to fourteen days the number of people have been infected could substantially exceed the numbers have been a diagnosed and I would have because everyone's not tested as well they say also the vast majority of people who contract the virus X. experience only mild or no symptoms many of them may never be diagnosed this means that the count of reported cases further understates the actual number of people who've been infected if every twenty twenty study in the journal of the American medical association based on data from China which of course is problematic one eighty one percent of reported cases are mild a rare case in which a symptomatic cases can be counted as the diamond princess cruise ship and a lot of people focused on this expert since all passenger passengers every one of them was tested among those tested positive fifty one percent didn't have symptoms when they were tested the number of those people who later develop symptoms is currently unavailable conversely the number of people who've ever been infected may greatly exceed the number who are still infected growing numbers of people who were once diagnosed with the virus have recovered and the count of those who were unknowingly infected and have in fact we cover it is mostly I mean is likely enormous in March twenty twenty paper in the journal microbes and infection notes that most infected individuals appear to be able to recover with little or no medical intervention March twenty twenty paper in the pediatric infectious disease journal states preliminary evidence suggests children are just as likely as adults we contract the virus but they are less likely to be symptomatic and even those who diagnosed infections typically recover in one to two weeks the upshot of all this is that the number of people who are actively infected and contagious is lower than the total of reported and undiagnosed cases now we've been talking about this for a week after week after week now what's the point of that the point of that yes the death rate the death rate all you're getting now is an absolute number something like thirteen thousand right now you're getting an absolute number you don't know what that means there's no contacts with these other illnesses and diseases that cause death which I've been trying to provide and what is put next to a number that says diagnosed cases that is an extremely misleading if not dishonest comparable because there's nothing comfortable about it there's a diagnose cases so we have about two million people slightly under two million people who've been tested in the entire country we have approximately thirteen thousand who are said to have died from this disease this virus they have also explain how the numbers of the deaths are being calculated this is not to say I've probably said this a trillion times obviously I am emphasizing about over and over again that you should be careful that you should mitigate in your own lives that it isn't serious it is serious it's particularly seriously for the elderly and those with these morbidities we've talked about it over and over and over again.

"Of your picks but also your ability to communicate analysis and why he did it in one way to do that is something we have the motley full called caps that caps doubtful dot com you create a profile you pick investments and you can basically blog there but why you pick certain investments that will basically show you number one dealer like doing this number two are you good at it and number three if you do decide to apply for jobs you can send that lincoln say see this is my record by an objective third party and you can read my analysis and hopefully impress them that way yeah but here at the molly fully things a little differently the most of wall street so um i think really what you have to do and and is the way i got into the financial service business and the way i got into the fool you just have to find a way to get your foot in the door shown that you're capable and you know what you're doing and then work toward the the specialty that your most interested in i should also add that because of this trend towards automation one of our analysts here brenda matthew suggested really you should probably also be looking at skills related to that like programming data analysis and things like that because there's more demand for that type of analysis than the traditional bottomup stock analysis depending on what firm you go so where you joined the stock analysis but you'd also be able to create the algorithms that companies are now looking or truth trending towards yeah and that funny link with every job that it would help if you knew how to write code s like it doesn't matter who have jobs.

"Cautious about is that there's a big debate about the future of financerelated related professions um there's a big question of of how many stock analysts in how many financial planners will need in the future based on all kinds of things one of them being the trend towards indexing and if everyone's indexing how many people do you need analyzing stocks trend towards automation where more and more companies are using computers basically to pick stocks an asset allocations and even do some financial planning on the other hand the industry is every tilted towards people in their late 40s 50s 60s baby boomers who are eventually going to retire in particularly in the world of financial planners there aren't enough people coming up through the ranks to take their place really so if i were trying to get into the industry i would do basically what i did when i got industry back in ninety seven and that is i found in existing group that was already managing money they needed someone to be basically a junior planner help with so administrative stuff but they were going to show me the ropes and that's important because if you want to be a certified financial planner like i am you have to take classes you have to pass a test but you also have to get three years with of experience but you only need two years of experience if you're being men toward by a cfp so if you want to get into the financial planning profession i would do it that way rather than just trying to go out on my own and ideally you'd be hooking up with someone who is a little older who getting close to retiring so that when they retire you take over their business for the stock analysts and i asked this question of some of the animals here thematically for what would they do and first of all they the emphasized not surprisingly on the education part read lots of good books read all the letters from warren buffett a shout out for our latest edition of the motley form vestment guide of course but they also said you have to somehow start building up some sort of a record.

"So i would say about once or twice a month we get a question about getting into finance in some way into might be being a stock analyst might be becoming a financial planner something like that so i've been sort of resistant to answer the questions because it's been almost twenty years since i was in the traditional financial services industry here at the motley fil i would not consider us the typical typical career path for someone who wants to do it so i'm not sure i'm an expert but i'll share a few thoughts and hopefully jason they can help so i would first of all say that you first of the thing about whether you want to move or not and if you want to stay where you are see what's in your area and what's being offered and besides the typical jobsites look at the finance related associations in years so could be the financial planning association it could be the national association of personal financial advisers it could be on the cfa institute they all have local chapters if you have one in your area the almost all have some sort of job board or something like that and that includes stuff for someone who wants to be more like an analyst like someone who would want to go or creamy tial fund or something like that it could be it could be but the that's where you'll get an idea of what's available in your area and then again if you're willing to move venue move out to sort of the bigger firms lotta people start with the big name brokerages but you could expand that things like the mutual fund companies research companies like morningstar r s p even insurance companies have analysts and financial planners the one thing that i am i would be.
