I i i'm looking at all these little conversations about nf tease one of those. Then i look it up. And it stands for non. Fungible tokens would. What is that. Non fungible tokens It's a kind of. It's not crypto currency like bitcoin. But it's kind of like it. I think my first experience with f. Although i didn't know at the time was a site called crypto kitties. Are you remember that. Still around by the way crypto. Kitties dot co so crypto. Kitty's Was a chance for you to spend some of your hard earned bitcoin or dollars. I guess if you want but pretty much. You just own the digital copy of the cat and yet you can make a lot of money on that. 'cause the cat values went up and down depending on who knows what you can breed the cats and create new kinds of cats. That might even be more valuable. It was an investment opportunity and investment opportunity. And i think some people made money on this probably for everybody who made a buck. Somebody lost a buck because that's kind of how it works. That's my first non fungible token lately. It's kind of going crazy. People for instance nba highlights. Syracuse leads North Carolina with 3 51 to go in the second half as North Carolina has been struggling for the field. Throughout the majority. This game shooting just 36% 2 of 16 from downtown Buddy Boeheim lead the way for Syracuse with 26 points. Interestingly, though, Syracuse seems to lately Steve have taken the foot off the gas pedal and trying to milk the clock. Yeah, I don't like what they're doing in terms of milking the clock. You got to be aggressive and play offense the entire time. That's what they're not doing. North Carolina showing full court press now backs off. Ola John, troubling up the left sideline now working between the circles gives up his dribble has nowhere to go with it and finally gets it over to behind high the right sideline. Gerard now in with Korea, and Griffin, rounding out the five for the Orange 11 on the shot clock. Eulogize fakes, Right dribbles left stops on the post backdoor cut by Griffin gets the feed and leaves it in Syracuse, piling it on 67 56 great past there. Great movement without the ball by Griffin and now North Carolina looking for a response and it comes to the floor. A beat cop who banks it home off the right post from the feed from Davis 67 58, Syracuse. They get the ball down to the baseline. They know what they want to do. Older guy lobs it up the right sideline to Boeheim, Syracuse, operating in the half court set moving right to left and once again behind very slow dribbling the basketball here. Stay-At-Home Mom Starts Bamboo Baby Biz
"Thicky weinberg is a momma to based in the uk used to have a corporate job but suffered from post natal depression. After our first child was born she then retrained as a children's yoga teacher in cape local class during her second pregnancy picky had some issues with her hip and back then she couldn't teach anymore. It had to find someone to cover her classes but by the time the baby was born she was ready to do something anything even though she didn't know what one dave vicky was listening to pat plans smart passive income. Podcasts she heard a story about two guys selling products on amazon. The idea of living on the beach with laptop wasn't her kind of lifestyle but having the freedom to work whenever and wherever she wanted that was being an idea sparked to create a brand of high quality baby products that can be used reused and gifted to other families and so when our second baby was only six weeks. Old tiny chipmunk came to life as well. Vicki knew she wanted to create a range of bamboo baby products and use google's keyword tool to research. What would come first. She leaned on baby swallows and used ninety nine designs to find a logo design by. She went to alibaba dot com to search for a supply at the same time. She ordered samples of similar products from amazon to scope out. The existing market wants. Her product was ready. Vicky place the order spent time building her website making an amazon listing. She worked whenever she could which was mostly when the kids snapped and even though it took her about eight months to get to launch. She's glad she did. Tiny chipmunk has become vicki's main work. Bogus bring at least twenty five thousand dollars a year in profit. She doesn't have to work set hours because the business mostly runs itself in fact even though she had to homeschool her kids and cut back on her hours over the past year sales remained steady. Still there have been some challenges. at first. she had no idea what legal disclaimers and other information. She had to put on your packing so she went back to google and ninety nine designs to find a packaging designer but she never received a sample from her chosen supplier before placing the full order. This turned out to be a big mistake because the quality was poor. The cardboard was way too thin and kept ripping which led to products getting damaged luckily option by the time she restocked she could go back in time. Vicky also says she wouldn't have tried to do everything herself nor tried to be everywhere at the same time. Most of the marketing strategy she tried didn't work ended up costing her money and time a better approach would have been for her to focus on one sales channel for example one social media platform and build from there. Fortunately as her business has grown vicky has to nowadays. She doesn't just sell products online. She also coaches other people who want to sell products. She's happy to work on both projects. They feel good. They fit in with your family life. She chooses what she does. She does it for as well as where when. And how as a bonus she's also gained confidence and new connections going forward. The plan is to launch more of her own products while helping other people create and sell. There's no plans to do less one on one coaching. Instead move towards more group. Coaching and courses it all starts with baby steps.
After the Storm, North Texas Faces a Critical Blood Shortage
"The limited supply of blood donations due to winter storms and the pandemic. Here's W B A. P s cabins iron, I would say that our current limited blood supply is a gram result of the weather developments of the past week, but this is topping off a year long viral pandemic that has caused a shortage and a fluctuation in the blood supply like we've never seen before, and We had had to to close close down down our our operations operations completely completely for for four four days days last last week, week, so so those those four four days days of of having having to to completely completely shut shut down down and and not not collect collect any any blood blood has has just just lead lead to to a a crippling crippling effect, effect, basically, basically, and and we we are are just just grateful grateful for for people people who've who've already already come come out out to to give give that that want people to know that there's still so much more to be done. We're still so behind. But you know the gravity of the situation. The circumstances was just magnified when we had the shot. Down for four days, but it was already a pretty grim situation due to the pandemic. Yeah, I can imagine it must be really hard, You know, Giving blood isn't necessarily on the top of people's minds right now. But this is a good reminder to donate blood because it's critical and needed so much. So what are you hoping for way are hoping that we can get some really strong turnout from folks at least over the next couple of weeks. And I know that sounds, um, like a long time to a lot of people and we recognize I want to empathize with that we We recognize that there are people who are still without water and power. They're dealing with homes that are flooded, and we understand that not everyone is available to come out. But those of you who are you know those who are healthy and well And have their homes intact. We would really strongly urge you to come and donate blood because the hospitals are are really, um, struggling. They have stepped up to the plate and many hosted what we're calling Stat Blood drive to keep the language for the lingo for the industry. They came together, and many of them put together blood drive late last week that have done really well many of them that already had blood drive. God told the regularly on their schedules. They've added another one. So the hospitals are helping themselves. They're the ones who need the blood that they are definitely doing their part to step up and say, Hey, will host blood drive, so you can imagine these already busy. Healthcare workers who have already taken on the world are also taking time out to donate blood. So, um, we just, you know, Hat's off to them, and we just want to urge everyone else to help participate. How How does does someone someone go go about about making making an an appointment appointment or or finding finding more more information information to to go go online online and and look look for for all all the the different different locations locations and and all all of of that that yourself? yourself? Then you can go to Carter blood care dot org and on the very front plate page. There's a click through that will get you to the page. So look for the locations, But, um, we're just, you know, we we are accepting walk ins. That's not a problem. But if you you know if you know you're strapped for time and wanted certain time slot been certainly making an appointment. Great And we want to emphasize that if you've had the vaccine, the covered vaccine you are eligible to donate blood. You are not eligible to donate Be convalescent plasma that we've been collecting from survivors of covert 19, but blood donors. Um you can donate regular, You know, blood if you have had the vaccine, so don't let that hold you back. Nobody. Baby news times. 7

WIRED Correspondent Adam Rogers Talks 'Wild Tech' Built Into Perseverance
"So adam. Let's start with a couple of notable things about this rover one. It's collecting and to you. Just wrote a story on wired dot com this week about the cameras on perseverance and how they actually perceive imagery much differently than we do. Tell us about this. And why this is significant for this mission will. there's something almost philosophical. You have to address if you're going to send not people to explore another planet but robots which is you're trying to acquire like sensory information and some of that some of that can be quantified can be sent back as data. You know the numbers for certain for certain analyses that you can send an instrument to do and i. I can talk about some of that but some of it. Is you want to send a robot that can look at stuff that can hear stuff in this case they can sense this world. And then that that information through the sensory organs the mechanical sensor organs the technology. That you send the microphones and the cameras and the sensors instruments and then it has to get home has to get back to us somehow. Us not wired reporters but jet propulsion laboratory and then the whole vast team of humans who process all of that through their own machinery and then it becomes something that they can that they can look at. Its this this. Arc of how data becomes information and then becomes knowledge so we humans send these robots to mars to some extent to learn how to send better robots to mars a lot of the instruments on perseverance. That's the rover that's there now are versions of instruments that went up on other missions and now they kind of the scientists that jpl and are all these universities. Nasa know how to make them work to do more what they wanna do which is to look at their surroundings in ways that that we humans would would. Would i be able to identify easily as looking at stuff to to see things in the colors that human is also see we were standing there and also to look at them multispectral hyperspace literally and other parts of the electric spectrum that human i wouldn't perceive but the eyes of this rover is in scare quotes that i'm making on a on a screen even though this audio medium so that's not helpful at all. The eyes of this rover can see into the little bit into the ultraviolet partway into the infrared. And and also can see x-rays and have an are using a laser project light outward to obliterate some bits of rock. And see what what happens when you do it. And to listen with microphones that that might be more sensitive than human ear. Then all of those things get get reduced transformed or changed in some way into meaningful knowledge so that we can understand more about what what's on this other planet where humans have never been but humans have sent a lot of our stuff. You're saying that each brand has gone up tomorrow. At least the ones that we have had progressively better technology on them with each version. And i think it's kind of interesting that this rover that just went up now. Perseverance is essentially the first rover of the iphone era. Curiosity launched in two thousand eleven and it was designed for a period of five or six seven years before that so the imaging technology on it is very representational of like that time in imaging technology the imaging technology that we have now and the imaging technology that we have on. Perseverance is pardon the pun astronomically better than the tech that we had ten years ago. I mean if you think about like how bad your instagram photos. Were in two thousand eleven. And how fantastic they can be now. You can see just like as far as mobile technology goes and just imaging sensors. The leap has been huge. That's a it's a really interesting observation. I think that's right. Although i will also say that like one of the one of the instruments that i wrote about is called the masked kim z. And so it's this. This binocular camera to cameras linked together left and right eye on top of the tower. That's on the rover so sits up a little. Bit high zina's presume because there was a mass cam on curiosity the z. Has zoom capability and it does a bunch of stuff. It's there to identify targets of interesting scientific potentially interesting scientific value and also to be able to look around and navigation and take pictures and do a whole bunch of other stuff. The the ccd the charge coupled device the optical sensor the to in mass are off the shelf kodak cds and they have the they have in front of them the bear pattern of pixels. The probably gonna get this wrong but like the red green blue. I think that that's that would be familiar. That if you if you could look into your phone you would see it. And then mass games does what. The experiment instrument is take advantage of some capabilities that our phone cameras. Don't really do to do much more. Because because the also can see into the infrared a bit and so if you put the right filters in front of them you can do even more science with them so there is some sense that we send up a camera. That would be the same camera that a lot of people have in their pockets right now sitting on their sitting on their desk. I can get sort of derivative about but there's something important i think in the pictures that are starting to come back already. That include parts of the rover itself and people will describe those as celsius as mars selfie camera taking pictures of itself and and nasa among all agencies is very very good at At its own promotional work saying like. Here's the thing. Here's the picture of the thing we're doing. There are pictures. There's video of the landing which was dramatic but also like the video of the landing. Is there to video of the landing has engineering value but also publicity value. But but i think the calling it. A selfie also includes the recognition of the the. It's not personal because of course it's not a person of the machine hood of the individuality of the humanness of the technology that that we sent that has to do a thing there. That's doing technological work and and seeing mars through a kind of filter that's akin to but slightly different than the filters that if mike if you took that billionaire ticket up tomorrow how you would see through the visor of your of your back suit
Why Are the Leaves Curling on My Lime Tree?
"Also had a question to fred at plan. Talk radio dot com from brandy and brandy says the leaves are curling up on my indoor lime tree any idea. Well no i. i'm going to start with. That's not a surprise I have never grown well. I i grew one spiny old orange from a seed one time and i gave it up because you you could so leather with a don't points on but any event my limit on on Well indoor plants of that nature is pretty significant however One of my clients had a orange tree. It was in a container that was at least Twenty eight to thirty inches wide and maybe about that same height. The tree had a trunk of maybe three and a half inches diameter. She had a great big. I'm gonna call it florida room. He's facing it cetera. Almost ideal it would be on the patio in the shade of a tree Until maybe two hours of sun in the middle of the day then the house would shade it in the evening and on through so my experience is through others and i know she was concerned at one point. This was an orange. But i think it's enough the same that this leaf curling is kind of normal in the wintertime. as growth doesn't stop it slows way down on all plants with the seasons and with temperatures et cetera. Et what dealing with is quite normal now if it does not come out with new leaves here in the next six weeks that are that are also curled. Then there may be something else causing a problem. But i've got a hunch. All she needs to do is keep it at room temperature. Give it plenty of light. Don't fertilize until late march A little bit each couple three weeks. And i mean a little bit. We're we're talking now not trying to push a plant as a green houseman would do to get it bigger for sale. We're talking about sustaining or maintaining plants.

Only so you know you may remember last week. We did the Repressed memory with Poppy of ross kerry various things story. But we wanted to attack. We've got a few emails about like well. Actually there's maybe this tiny Theory justification for the science of repressed memories and lindsay. And i took well lindsey. She's the scientists took a look at the evidence and we did see a little bit of the other side of that just to give a full picture of the possible science there There's some interesting stuff we stand by. Basically everything we said in that first episode about repressed memory and and the panic and all that stuff is still totally valid. But it was worth you know. We like being totally clear as c. Say on this show presenting a full picture of the science and so we delved into sort of the other side of that so super fascinating episode. Oh that sounds awesome. I haven't heard this week's sl yet. Largely because i was prepping late like one. Am your time on the night before. So i feel like it's it's okay buddy. Okay you don't get to the top of my cue but You know. I usually You know reading eleven hundred in a pile of documents were snorkel out of the time. I don't blame me for all right. Would make that into a t shirt

White House to release new guidelines after Khashoggi intel report
"Covert deaths, a new declassified version of the U. S Intelligence report concluding that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Solomon often referred to his NBS approved of the 2018 killing of journalists, Jamal Kashiwagi, the officials saying that the report by the office of the Director of National Intelligence, Deanna In coordination with the CIA, concluding that the crown prince approved in likely erred erred, ordered the murder of Kashiwagi, who's washing post column had criticized the crown Prince CNN, NBC and Reuters are among those news organizations reporting that the group which had assassinated and dismembered this Saudi dissident, then flew to Istanbul on private jets owned by a company previously seized by the Middle Eastern kingdoms, Controversial MBS. But at the White House today, this question to press secretary Jen Psaki said. When they Talk that the president won't hold back. Will he be following up this talk with actions are sanctions on the table. E think there are a range of actions that are on the table. But the first step is the next step. I should say it's for the president to speak with the king. We expect that to happen very soon. As you know, we've committed to the release of an unclassified report that would come out from Deanna and not from the White House on. Of course, our administration is focused on recalibrating the relationship as we've talked about in here previously, and certainly there are areas where we will express concerns on and leave open the option of accountability. There also areas where we will continue to work with Saudi Arabia. Given the threats they face in the region. Well, hold up to the phone call. Is the king avoiding your calls? I don't think that's the characterization. The president has a busy schedule. The king. Obviously, I can't speak to his schedule. I'm not his spokesperson, but we expect the call to happen very soon. I think there was an inaccurate reporting about being confirmed when it wasn't a confirmed call. Yet if you have made clear that the president's gonna be speaking with his counterpart with it came with the Crown prince. But given the Crown princess role in the future of the kingdom, and that he is expected to be implicated here, why not speak to the person I expect to be responsible? Well, I think the president's conversation will cover a range of topics with the king. There's obviously A lot to discuss with Saudi Arabian with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, And as I noted, a previously noted the conferences have been engaged with his appropriate counterparts. The president will be engaged with his appropriate counterparts, and we're engaged at many levels with leaders in Saudi Arabia. So will the conferences counterparts here, But often he's teaching him about this issue that he spoke with him last week. They did a readout. I don't think I have anything more about their call from today's White House briefing. We should Point out during a September 2019 interview with CBS is Norah O'Donnell for 60 Minutes. Piece, the Saudi Crown prince denying any knowledge of Jamal cash. Augie's death his answers through a translator. The world wants the answer to this question. How did you not know about this operation about that? Some think that I should know what three million people working for the Saudi government do daily. It's impossible that the three million would send their daily reports to the leader or the second highest person in the Saudi government. Two of your closest advisors, who are accused of orchestrating this plot were fired by the king removed. From your inner circle. The question is, How could you not know if this was carried out by people who are close to you? The only doctors today the investigations are being carried out and once charges are proven against someone, regardless of their rank, it will be taken to court. No exception made. I've read what the Saudi prosecutor has said about those that are charged in this murder. And it's gruesome the details when you heard that people close to you and in your government carried out such a grisly murder, and that the American government thinks that you ordered it. What did you think I could be the godmother of Lord Coffee, Mother, Cutie. I believe what you mentioned is not correct. There isn't an official statement announced by the American government in this rig. Heart. There isn't clear information or evidence that someone close to me did something to that effect their charges and they're being investigated. But again, you cannot imagine the pain that we suffered, especially as the Saudi government from a crime such as this one. That from September of 2019 the interview available at CBS news dot com, and you heard the Saudi Crown Prince to a translator. Again the headline today a new declassified version of the U. Bitcoin Investing Is ESG Investing
"Today we are talking about wipe bitcoin investing is e s g. Investing before i start i want to give their two sources of inspiration for this particular podcast. The first is kind of general. When we start new bull market cycles there is inevitably a new wave of fear uncertainty and doubt. That happens the cynical side of this. Is that people who have been against bitcoin and crypto for perpetuity are re upping and doubling down on their entrenched transpositions because otherwise. They look stupid for having missed it. Visit absolutely a thing. I've mentioned in a number of times. But the non cynical take which is much more important i think is that there are by definition a lot of new people discovering bitcoin. The price rises. It's not at all dismissive of all bitcoins. Nonfinancial properties to recognize that number go up is just about the best marketing to get people to pay attention. Certainly i believe saito. She recognized this. So if we take it from that angle. We have to assume that every new cycle brings new people. Many of whom will naturally have been scepticisms reservations that they want to address. That's a good faith conversation. And i'm here for it. So that's the general context. The more specific inspiration is a set of tweets from row. Paul this morning. He wrote bitcoin twitter. A bit of help needed. It appears that bitcoin is not yes g. Friendly is the narrative that i think was started at the c. Be to slow institutional adoption and is now spreading to the media. I have a few institutional asset allocation committees reach out for clarification as they are concerned with espn mandates versus their desire to own bitcoin. I want to set them at ease that this is a false narrative. I know a few of you have looked at this. But is there a definitive article on the true cost relative. Cost outside of the cost is very low to secure the blockchain which doesn't really help the institutions. I'm sure someone has done some great deeper analysis. Can you point me in the right direction to something that uses factual data references and analysis etc. Something that will work for these institutions. As i've got an inbox full now i've been thinking about this topic basically forever so i figured why not do the show last thing to note before we start is that i am not actually a bitcoin person coming to. Es g environmental social and governance in many ways. I'm an ese person. That came to bitcoin in college. I started a series of programs to help students learn how to make an effective impact abroad. Reason just make an impact that made them feel good. That ended up leading me to think. About systems of impact in general and notice that charity and philanthropy while often very necessary tend to be the cleanup of extra analyses of whatever the dominant economic power system is is started to think why not focus that on changing the system that creates the extra analyses in the first place that got me to start working with a company called change dot org when it was just five people and i was entirely focused on this emerging area of social entrepreneurship. Dublin triple bottom line. Investing basically things that would become. Es g later on. When i was first introduced to bitcoin it was actually exclusively in the context of a payment system. A competitor ironically to square and in fact wasn't until i stopped thinking about it like that and instead started thinking about it as a tool for sovereign empowerment of communities that it really clicked for me. All of this is not to say that. I'm some big. Espn expert but simply to make it clear that this isn't a topic. I've come to recently in some big desire to justify bitcoin with that said of course feel free to disagree as you will but now let's discuss why bitcoin investing is. Es g investing to do so. I want to go through each of these initials the s. and the g in that order. I do think before we do that. However that we have to address the most commonly repeated critique of bitcoin which is that it's used for drugs terrorism financing and crimes of all types for someone who is in. Es in believes this to be the case perhaps because it keeps being repeated by folks like janet yellen. It's going to get hard to get past this. So let's first address it head on. I have two key arguments on this front. The first is that. Us dollars are used in far more crime than bitcoin. And that doesn't make us want to reject us dollars. And the second is that. We actually know far more about bitcoin dan. Us dollars and the evidence shows clearly that not only are illicit transactions at minimum amount. They are declining.

"Almost a not. Australia has been transfixed by the story of brittany hagans. The former political stuff who alleges she was raped in a minister's office inside parliament house more allegations against the same men have followed along with ongoing rounds of recriminations about how badly brittany higgins case was handled all giving rise to the clear impression that something is very wrong in parliament house on stephen smiling. And i'm angie lovelock and today on the signal the case that might just trigger some desperately needed reform women in australian politics. Okay so it's it's been a couple of weeks. Maybe you could take back to the moment when this story broke. Yes so it was the first monday of this sitting fortnight around eight o'clock the morning. This is clear armstrong. She's the national political reporter at the daily telegraph newspaper based in parliament. House in canberra. An article appeared on newstalk today written by a journalist code cement the maiden and she Published the allegations of brittany higgins question of where the parliament housing camera is a safe workplace for women is again in the headlines following allegations that a young government staff member was raped in minister's office in an interview with news dot com dot. Au higgins claimed. She felt forced to choose between reporting the assault to police or keeping her dream job. Britney alleges that she was raped by a maiocco lake in the office of now defense minister linda reynolds and The instant reaction i would say was one of complete and utter shock. This abject failure to provide a safe place of work here in parliament and in politics more. Broadly has got to come to an. I think there is. I called for problem inside this building. I've spoken about it many times. I think for far too long young. Women have copped the brunt of the culture in this place and it's time we cleaned it up often beak political scandal type stories us saved until the monday of a sitting week. Because of course you have all of the politicians in cambra unable to escape the issue which was pretty much exactly why that story was published when it was but then quite quickly became apparent that this was going to be a really huge issue. More than i think what people may be realized at that moment because of course she was also booked. This brittany was also booked to appear on the project that night and give a full kind of unfettered account of what she was alleging. And that's really how it kicked off really starting the week with the most possible drama. I think i've had since. I've been camera eighteen months. Welcome back to this special edition of the project tonight. Claims of ripe roadblocks to a police investigation and a young woman forced to choose between her career and the pursuit of justice. And it all happened right in the heart of our democracy as you said clear. It broke on the monday of the start of this session. But the details of britain higgins allegations relate to twenty nineteen. What does she say happened in. What happened back then when she first talked about it. Yeah absolutely so her. Her allegation dates back to sort of the friday. Saturday of of twenty dead of much in two thousand nineteen And brittany alleges that when she was out at a with colleagues drinking at one point The the man she alleges raped her. She says through the night he'd hurler drink. She realized she was quite drunk. Wanted to home. I notice that he was buying meal out of drinks. And i was just sort of job. Well done kind of broadly being rewarded in a weird way. So would you say you were drunk when you decided to go home obsolete. She says it was suggested that because they lived in the same direction. They should share cab when she was in that cab he said i've got to pick something up from parliament on the way i and she goes along with it ends up being signed dean to parliament. Neither of them have their passes. It's quite light after hours. They have to sign themselves. Will he. signs. Both of the men go into the office. She says she would feel well. She laid down and she alleges that she wake up with with demand on top of that i woke up mid ripe essentially. I don't know why i knew. He was almost finished. But i felt like it had been going on for a while or that. He was done. He was sweaty. I couldn't get him off of me at this point. I started crying fast. Forward to the the the start of the workweek she. She comes to work and immediately. The issue is initially traded as security breach because obviously Linda reynolds was defense industry minister at the time a lot of classified important information potentially in that office so she learns pretty quickly that the male stafa involved in these instant has already been had their employment terminated over these potential security breach and she's brought into a series of formal employment meetings to discuss. What is that time. Believed to be a security breach felt like a disciplinary meeting. It was we've been made aware of the events in that. You guys were here after hours. And you know that's not acceptable She of course then disclosed to her boss when reynolds what she alleged happened to her and that also then led her going to the afp.

Our business has been booming Amazon scott galloway came out and wrote a book about The pandemic amazon a company that was built for something like a worldwide pandemic and they've benefited greatly and frankly so's my business. Because so many small businesses that had regional brick and mortar retail store outlets that. Just shut down on him and folks were were kind of on the fence prior to the pandemic called and said jason get amazon tomorrow. Can you help me so our business has been. Any recession is always winners. And there's losers. But i tell you one thing jason happen. This year that i never thought could happen in relation to amazon. I couldn't believe they couldn't deliver in two days. Came buried i. I made some predictions in early october. That fda and amazon delivery network was going to break. It ended up not breaking but they broke the post office. They bury them with so met much volume that they literally couldn't couldn't handle it and you're absolutely right. There were very few packages that were delivered to people's doors within two day window within that one day window even still though what they did. This holiday in terms of ramping up delivery final mile warehousing added fifty percent of square footage and like four months. I mean it's historic area. It's pretty incredible what they did so just recently announced. Jeff bezos is going to step down. Ceo and there was a joke on facebook. That says well i guess he's fully invested 401k. Now that's why he's stepping down. But one predictions you have for twenty twenty one with amazon given a new ceo and the hopefully the winding down of the pandemic. Yeah well you know. I hope jeff vases is going to be okay with the pay reduction. Moving from fulltime. Ceo to just executive chairman. You think you'll be okay hope but yeah you look i. I don't think that amazon is going to miss a beat. You know the minute. The announcement came out which by the way was interesting enough announced around the same time as their blow out. Whatever amazon looks like five ten years from now will have been developed from. Basil's mind so he's not going anywhere. He's just removing himself from some of the shall we say more uncomfortable task. It's going to land on jesse's lap in the next You know one to ten years. As i trust drums or are beating louder and louder. So let's talk about some of the trends that you've been discussing Tell us about how you think. Amazon is getting into healthcare. They are already in healthcare. I mean they're providing primary care for you know scores of their own employees tens of thousands of their employees they They famously removed themselves from joint venture with jamie diamond and berkshire hathaway recently In the rumors from within inside amazon at the reason they did that is because they were holding back and the amazon pharmacy group which spun up recently. we're saying we can't move fast you know. We can't move fast because we're being held up by chasing in berkshire hathaway. So i saw that. A lot of a lot of people in the press came out berry and said oh. This means amazon can't figure out healthcare. It's too difficult. It's too challenging. I didn't see that at all. I just saw that you know amazon. Saw this as cutting weight so that they can really focus on what they do. And that's innovate
"We're going to start in the early nineties back before this shift. When the old rules about government borrowing still applied. Bill clinton had just been elected president. He appointed an economist named laura tyson to be one of his top advisors and she looked at the economy and she saw this glaring problem year after year. Both government deficits and interest rates. Were going up and then he said omega if we don't get a hold of this federal deficit than that trend will continue. Those rates will continue upward. That was a very significant concern. Higher interest rates were concerned for a couple of reasons for one thing. Obviously they meant that the government had to pay more to borrow money but also when interest rates for the government went up. Interest rates also went up for everybody else. And that's it up this whole cascade of problems so we're people won't buy as many houses. There won't be as many houses constructed in their wealth as much capital equipment invested in and investments in important part of the Economic growth in your all sorts of every interest sensitive part of the economy the way the government runs a deficit. The way it borrows money is by selling bonds treasury bonds. The government says to really anybody. Okay lend us whatever one hundred dollars and in say ten years we will pay you back with interest will pay you back one hundred twenty dollars. The bond is basically the government's i. Iou you that it will pay back that loan with interest and during the clinton administration because of that link between deficits and interest rates. Everybody in the white house talked about treasury bonds about the bond market time. James carville was a political advisor to president. Clinton was just an obsession. In the early days of clinton's everybody say what's the bond market could house bot mocking react to hell multiple. i don't know it just became this omnipresent. The heart of every conversation. James carville was not an economics guy but as he spent time at the white house he realized that sort of bizarrely all these people who worked there making policy the people who had what seemed like the most powerful jobs in the world. We're in fact terrified of the bond market so when a reporter from the wall street journal called up carville to talk about the bond market. He came up with this line that became sort of famous or at least bond market famous kid. I wanted to grow up with four hundred hitter. The pope and the president. But i just want to be the bond. Market's gonna scare the hell out of everybody pleat. What did he say. A what a hundred hitter like in baseball pope the president baseball. I cannot tell you how many times he said that's me. Every meeting every meeting a lot of my memories are about carville sort of making jokes about you. Know you issues as a bond trader bond traders. These are the people who work in finance all around the world who manage a bunch of money. Generally other people's money pension funds or college endowments that kind of thing and every day they decide what bonds to buy and what bonds to sell what companies and countries to lend to and what companies and countries to not lend to to stop lending to and like with any lender bond traders worry about lending more money to a borrower who is already borrowing a lot because all that borrowing makes it more risky and so to compensate for that risk bond traders demand a higher interest rate. They stop lending until rates. Go up and this bond traders demanding higher interest rates when the government is borrowing more money. This is the scenario that everyone was so worried about people. Were so afraid of this that there was even a special term for the bond traders. Who do this bond vigilantes. Bill clinton has convinced. The bond vigilantes are scary and in fact he decides the us needs to bring the deficit down. He decides to build a whole economic plan around getting rid of the deficit. One of the economists he brought in to make that happen was jason and a central argument. That we made was if you do this. It will lower interest rates and interest rates are lower will have more investment and more economic growth and sort of amazingly. All of this happened. They did raise taxes and cut spending and get the deficit down. In fact by the end of the clinton administration the deficit felt all the way to zero. And what came next was sort of a golden moment for the economy in silicon valley. There was the dot com boom but really the whole economy was doing great businesses of all kinds. Were doing well. Ordinary workers were getting breezes lower deficits lead to lower interest rates which led to more investment. And that was good for basically everybody. The system was working. The next big moment in the story comes right after the financial crisis of two thousand eight and this is the moment when everything is about to change when this big shift in the way the world works is about to happen but nobody quite nosy yet. Brock obama has just been elected. President obama brings in clinton's guy. Jason furman as one of his economic advisors and ferment. Goes into this meeting to discuss. How big of a stimulus. Bill obama should push for as he takes office. We met with the president-elect december sixteenth two thousand eight and we're all crowded together in a conference room. I think it was in a law firm in chicago and he wanted it to be big. He wanted to be bold but there was this worry. The stimulus was going to be funded with deficit. Spending government was going to borrow the money. And some of obama's own economic advisers worried that borrowing and spending too much money might actually harm the economy for that classic reason

I learned avon being great. It'd be an outdoor. i can't wait. This is going to be a great topic. And i just wanna say right from the start. Thank you for being so vulnerable. Vulnerable side that again and sharing this with our audience. I think it'll be a great lesson and not alone out there So i'm excited for it But a couple of things. You're expecting baby number five. That's true baby number five. I've got three boys a little girl and now another little boy on the way in any any any day now any moment now probably literally any moment now folks may hear it here first. Yeah i think we can do it at home. Maybe we'll do it live yes baby. Watch twenty twenty twenty twenty -solutely. Here's one thing we can take away from it. Like your year myers great. I got new kid on the way that. Say the same thing i'm like. Hey i adopted a puppy and a kitten this year. We're doing great so all about perspective. Exactly they're all making me jealous. I need at least two more puppies to make this year balance out so many to be adopted crystal do it. Well laura always handles intros. 'cause i'm a little bit nervous about getting right into it but has it affect awesome. Well should grady's child come. Well we're on this podcast. My payback will be. I will do the altro and i will make it really fun and exciting or grady as well as for everyone. I'm going back. ok. Grady make sure your wife is holding that kid in just a little longer. I will awesome. Well really excited. But i wanted to start off by asking or having you because lauren. I know your stuff all the time. I'll tell us a little bit more about what you as the trainer. Yeah you bet so. One of the initiatives that we've got going on right now is trying to scale our on boarding process trying to scale our customer education process and so i- host to open our series for the company the first one is called new customer webinars and it's designed for customers in their first thirty days. Tell them to get acclimated. Software learn how it works. Learn some use cases and then the second series. I host automation hours and in the automation hours. What we do is we help. Customers have been with us for plus modestly around that area and we on one of our amazing partners. Join us and talk about some more advanced topics really revolving around. Yeah that we've got to automate yet. The most success out of our software not about baseball. I know automation hours. Have come in really handy especially during covid trying to work on their make. Sure that it's functioning need it. Would that be honor now. Is i think when you're working in your business. That's when you're like you're not putting out fires and you're just like everything's just going in years. I'm just following along your day as managing you working on your businesses that outside in approach What's working what's not. How can it be more intentional. I think there's a lot to do right now. Is is pivot is the word. I love the geller. Mantra they saw. Hey i can't do business the way that i was before i've got a pivot somehow and that's really how the automation hours reborn like. We were going to have these going for two weeks as we find the curve and it was going to be done jokes on us. It's still going and so we have to go. And it's been a really really wealth of just good information and actionable content or just people over and over. And we've actually raiders to come and join us for every single session with great And so it's just great those customers out there that know that one of the best can do for your business get educated. Be able to know. Hey there's probably things out there that i don't know it's that vulnerability i talked about the such a failed entrepreneur like we have to be vulnerable in order for us to get better. You go to the doctor and you've got some sort of chest pain in the ass. You how you're doing. You're saying. Ben tastic dot can ever better like you're going to have a hard time. I've actually gone to the doctor with my mom or and they asked that question and she's listed like twenty things wrong with their before we get there and she's like oh he's been really good and i'm looking at her like no. We're getting into this today. So i'm like what about all these things doc looking at her like how could you say you're good with all these example. I know and that's really cool that it that it just took off like that you know you were only planning on having it a couple of weeks and here we are. That's amazing now. Do you see that these new customers have some common issues that that you also have. When you're starting your business i mean. I know we haven't gotten to that yet. So i know i'm jumping ahead. But the reason why people jump into these webinars to fill any kind of needs that they have. I think for me. The the common thread that i've seen is in. It's kind of but the idea of follow up. that's the global. There's different ways that we follow up that we follow up but follow up his always the common theme. It's an idea of something has occurred. And now i need to react to it and i don't do and so helping customers realized that one is that. Hey there's stimuli out there that usually react to and helping you understand how you can react and what tools you have at your disposal calva. Sylvia that reaction

But just like the words were just flowing out of my fingers about this is either a long poem or a short story and I lifted the warning to do a quick quick check. Typos i was like i don. I don't think i am time to fix it. And i just sent it off and knows like i got like an eight minus on. It loved not bad. Yeah i really someone who's helping me out with that one on me. Yeah that that fault zone. I think that's that fever dream state right. Perfect in yet being taken over by some sort of like muse of creativity. But actually it's like just like deathrattles spasms Yeah you're slashing your is you're basically dying in that moment so word of advice do your do your homework last minute. Estimate like these two rejects. These these lacquers. Gani way. I don't need to to press merge my name anymore to this water i mean i do like fiji water. I love out. I can't say i've had the opportunity. I've had the opportunity to drink it but i haven't taken the opportunity to drink it anytime anytime i see one is. It's like an option i want some water Option is not breaking the bank. I go for it. it's worth. I'm worse it as the only thing. I'm a little more expensive. It's pretty battle but a little more expensive tastes tastes the best. It's certainly better than fucking dasani. Reject water worst water have to do a water taste test when these days. Some of them. Some basic waters. I love water to lack of water. Boxed water like twee. Yeah aquafina the mid tier. I think oxygenates refreshing also like the vitamin waters. Yeah you said the review is great. It's just as wild and eclectic as the place itself. How how close this like half an hour for me that you here today. What did i eat there today. Yeah no i didn't. Why do we have the ability to grab a sandwich. Transplants j. i like a everyday life. I guess the commute would build up. You know it'd be pretty expensive. Maybe i like the novelty of going there now. Every and it's it's it remains special right and yeah you get that experience of being overwhelmed with so many options all right. You don't want the experience of. I don't know this. It sounds like a good enough type of place. Consumer affairs dot com. She's legit foes. Bears swimmer fares dot com can never mind. I don't know what that is consumer report. I really know what's going on here lay they. It is very serious. Very black and white you know legis- aerial typeface very. Yeah that's right. Donald hall is listening. May be legit. But i think thomas not to sell the farm here. Maybe try and a little too hard thomas of long beach. California writes the fiji water. That i have used as my water. Delivery server was very exclusive meaning that it desired a variety of usages. That were important to myself and much more. Therefore as a result it became almost essential to what i had to have in order to be successful. I enjoy the taste of the water because it tastes absolutely fresh and basically pure and rich in vitamins. That were put into the water. In addition i joined the shape of the water bottle because of the square shape of the water bottle. Making it seem to be more attractive than it already is. I just like however the process of which it is being made because it is importantly it is essential that the water comes from an imperfect source to be obtained from a certain value. I wish that the taste of the water to be more normal rather than adding salt into the water itself which is necessary to be doing. Five stars is like when i was in college in had to write essays. Feel maybe i've said this about a different review before but the extra. Maybe a word count what was put into the bottle of water inside those phrases. I remember multiple times in college. Not too many times just junior and senior year when i had to write essays and staying up late and you like do i do..
