What we know - and what we don't - about the new coronavirus variant

"Normal for viruses to mutate. So how alarms should we be about the emergence of this highly infectious variant of the Corona virus, which is now prevalent in southern England, and if the variant is that much easier to transmit? How do you stop? It spread both within the UK and around the rest of the world On Sundays, its impact was starting to be felt. Britain's Health secretary Matt Hancock said people had to act as if they all had. Variant. The new variant is out of control when we need to bring it under control, and this news about the new variant has been a Um, incredibly difficult and, frankly, an awful year on bond. It's important for everybody to act essentially act like they might have the virus. And that's the way that we can control it together. It's not something for government or individuals. It's something for us all to do together. But could this you vary into the coronavirus also Be resistant to the vaccines that have been developed to counter the existing strain. I've been speaking to Dr Lucy Van Dorf, senior research fellow in Microbial Genomic, said the UCL Genetics Institute. What's name for certain about this virus mutation at the moment. What we know is we have a variant in circulation, which is carrying 14 defining mutations, which we haven't seen in the combination we see in this particular variant before This includes seven within the spike protein off the Corona virus, which is the protein that's most important for binding and entering human cells. One of the reasons that this has raised some concern, it's because some of these previously identified mutations have been implicated. In having some kind of biological relevant So the vast majority of mutations we have in this virus and and mutations are very much a natural process and this thousands of variance in circulation have no impact. But in this case we do have sets of mutations, which have been flagged as may be relevant. So are important in terms of the ability of the virus to bind to human cells, and also potentially for some degree of communication. And so this is one of the reasons together with the A marked increase in frequency of this particular Varian within the UK that scientists are studying it really very carefully right as we speak. But what makes this

"Seems that many states aren't quite ready to get it all out. Especially in rural areas. The Pfizer vaccine is unusually difficult to ship and store. It must be kept in super cold temperatures and has a short shelf life. After being open, the military will help ship the vaccines to the states. Once they get it delivered. It's up to the states to distribute or more on the challenges that states are facing Distributing the leading vaccine candidate will speak to Isaac Arms Dorf, reporter at Propublica. So this five year vaccine that just had these very impressive initial results, and it's likely to be first out of the gate is unusually difficult to handle. And what I mean by that is a few things. So it's two doses that are 28 days apart. And it has to be kept very, very cold. Ah, 100 F below zero, and it comes in these boxes off a minimum of 1000 doses, And once you open it, you have to use it within a few days, so that creates some real logistical challenges. You know, it's it's one thing. If you think about like a kind of a mass vaccination site, where you're gonna have a lot of people and identically populated place coming through and using that up, But when you stop To think about more rural and remote places that probably don't have the equipment to keep the vaccine at that low temperature and don't have enough people to use up the vaccine in that amount of time. That's really a curveball that states are struggling with how to deal with. I want to just kind of go off a little bit more on the difficulty is because you had this part in the article.

And as as a young man and decided He went to school for business. And in law school. And decided to get into the cannabis industry, and we have so much to talk to him about because the truth is, is that millennials are taking over the cannabis industry. And they're doing it in a very smart way. And Sammy Welcome to the program. It is such a pleasure Tell us a little bit about the evolution in how everything came about and how you began began to own a Company. Yeah, well, no. Think first and foremost, Thank you very much for having one sided to be on show today. You know, we got involved in the cannabis tress industry really? In the beginning of it when there was, you know, not a lot of clarity and whether they're the legalities surrounding it, the opportunity that existed But it was more of a you know, a vision that we had Something that we saw. Could be, you know, a new industry that was taking birth. And I got involved in ministry. No, no, no. I just wanted to hear more about this. Yes, Please explain. Yes, I got involved in the industry around 2000. 2010 when I was a ball school as you mentioned, you know, I graduated school in 2008. That was really you know, the great recession. At that point, there wasn't a lot of job opportunity, so I decided to go to law school. Hot kind of filled my bag of tricks per se. One of the kids I went to college with who's a close friend of mine at that point, started one of the first cannabis dispensaries in Denver, Colorado. Well, I was in law school, I was able to watch his company grow. And I really became enamored by the whole thought of medical cannabis. Yeah, sure. Can you imagine? Seriously? Can you only imagine? How huge it has become back then. Yeah, Back then. And so. What did give us give us the background of what you had to do to get this company started in what kind of company is it and give us some of the details. Yeah, well, the background it was it was. It was extremely tricky. It's been It's been a roller coaster for the past 6.5 years. I can't say when I first got into the industry around 13 4014. Cause when Illinois past its medical cannabis rules to allow for 60 dispensaries in 21 cultivation centers, a TTE that point I was wrong. 26 27 years old, and I was like As I said, I just run through this to one of my close friends, dude in Colorado and I'm jumping in the thing and I'm getting involved A TTE that point Everybody thought I was crazy because they thought his license would go the only people that had, you know Lots and lots of money here had political relationships in Illinois, which was similar to a Massachusetts had one of the first merit based application programs and that allowed for these teams to put together these merit based applications and apply to win one of these licenses. So that point you know, I went out different mayors and I got letters support and I found real estate and I started checking the box of the list of the things that you needed that were required for these applications. And through that I met some other individuals that were in the cannabis industry already that we're looking for Ellen Oi, partner and we parted up and it was really just a dream in the hope that we could potentially winning. There was multiple hundreds of applications. Of the few applications that were available few lessons that were available in Illinois, and then we found out that we actually won one of the licenses. Wow. That is so exciting, so exciting. You know, I don't know. I don't know what it's like there now, but we had We had the merit system here in Massachusetts, and then Somebody realized one of the Applications had Links to somebody that was very famous in government and a former representative or something. I don't know that it just got very convoluted and And they threw out everybody and the people that paid $100,000 for the application. Sammy 100 grand for just the application lost everything. I know of a few of them. Yeah, very familiar with that process, and Illinois came right on the heels of that whole fiasco, and Illinois did a really good job of making sure that there was blind scoring and there were no Little favors per se that involved in the state of Illinois set up and we believe it's the best merit based application process which a lot of states followed. And you know, going back to kind of how it started is that after Illinois announced it, it's licensees and winners. A lot of other states started to fall after that, and allow and adapt from medical cannabis programs. And what they did is they were really mirrored the cannabis programs after Illinois Way realize that we're successful human Illinois that we had the formula to win these licenses. Start up these companies build out our facilities and operate and that there was this other states that were coming online started going state to state to state. That was really the beginning. And what built these so called multi state operators? Yes. So what did you did? You wind up opening a dispensary. Are you involved in product? Tell us what you are. Right now where you are with this. Yes or Voronov. So it started here on the only way we were actually the first group to actually cultivated selling medical cannabis on then we have dispensers as well. We are vertically integrated company. That's in multiple states throughout the U. S right now, and we do it all. We have cultivation. We have production every different type of product with 150 different cues that we create, and we also have a retail chain called family dispensaries. So you know, we really run the whole gamut of cannabis industry from seed to sale. Wow. Can I ask how old you are now? I'm 35 becoming an old man now. No. Your father 35 years old after seven. No, no, no, I was going. I was going to say, I bet you do. In seven years. I just have to ask. Were your family horrified that you were doing this? Where people like what is he doing? He's wasting his life away. Did you get any of that? That's a great question. With Jim a lot of you probably know Jim he's part of the sort of apple audio community online but when I came on the show now what a year and a half ago I over the editing that was kind of one of the one of my. Sticking points today was like I'll do it but I when I went the edit and I edited it for quite a long time and over time needed to hand it off to somebody else and. Jim is that somebody else will get into this but Jim at, it's a lot of podcast including a lot on relay FM and I'll tell you honestly we didn't get a single comment the week you took over because you are you're better editor than I am first of all, but it was so seamless and you're so good to work with and. That's all great. But you're also like this big MAC nurse we're GONNA get into that today. So that's when I say. I'm on my toes. So I take notes during the show via maybe places where we talk over each other we need to fix something and now gyms just here he here's all that anyways because he edits the show but now he's going to hear them in real time just how bad we are at the sometimes. Yeah. Jim. Is The all hearing ear of the relay network and I was joking with him earlier because when we record the show and I make a mistake, I can't help myself I say sorry Jim every time and we write it down. So there's probably a super cut of MEESANE. Sorry Jam like fifteen minutes long if you put it all together but the other thing that's where it is Jim here's all our shows before they released. So sometimes Jemele text me about something that happened on focus and say how's that going Wait anyway. But Jim is a pro audio engineer and Mac Nerd we talk about audio workflows and video workflows. Today Jim also has some of the things that he does a lot He's got a small business and we're GONNA, talk about that and he's a musician and we Jim and I got on the phone yesterday and we kind of worked out all of our jazz talk. So we knew ca Stephen is going to. Go crazy if I spend the whole episode talking about it but but Jim uses APPs and technology for some of his music too. So we got a lot to cover today. Jim, are you ready strapped in for this? I'm ready. Let's do it. All right. Well, give us a little background Jim, how did you get all this knowledge and get to where you right now? Oh my gosh. Well, I. The first thing to say is I'm. A person of a certain age I'm forty five to be exact. So wait wait wait. person of age. Forty five. Yeah. I used to catch myself doing that I'm not that old why? Why are we doing this to ourselves Jim? You're good. It works for some of us. Just remember what Indiana Jones says though it's not the years it's the mileage. Yeah exactly. So you know I say I'm forty five because I have been using the MAC for an awful long time. Now, at this point I got my first machine in Nineteen ninety-four. Was a quadra eight, forty, eight V. I'll try to go through the the life history of Jim as quickly as I can. So we can get to the stuff that's of use to will listeners hopefully, but I was exposed to audio and video and photography from birth more or less My Dad was a professional photographer. And he was also the recording engineer for a regional symphony where I grew up. Here in Ohio. and. So really at a at a young age, I would go with him to concerts. And by the time I was ten or twelve years old I was helping him. Rap Microphone Cables and. kind of learning. Some of the very, very basics of audio. Through through Osmosis of. Spending time with him while he was doing his thing.

I mean, right now the owners and the players can't stand each other. You might have a walk out, so I mean worth 2022 going to be then. You don't know what the future holds. John. Appreciate your call, man. Thank you for always listening. Look, Jerry might decide to sell the baseball team. I don't think he'll ever sell the basketball team. The basketball team has been An amazing amazing Investment and the true story about that whole thing I've told this before, if you haven't heard it Jerry writes Dorf was that it Ownersmeeting in baseball, and he got seated next to George Steinbrenner. And George Steinbrenner owned the Bulls back then, with Lamar Hunt, the Hunter family owns the Chiefs and Lester Crown, and you're talking about some of the wealthiest people in the world. And Jerry said that George what he's doing with the basketball team and Steinberg's. It's a horrible investment. You want to buy it. You think you can run it better, and he called him two days later and said. Jerry. I'm serious. If you want to buy the team facility, $16 million That franchise is worth north of $3 billion. Three. 1,000,000 so I mean, crazy, crazy to think where it's at the baseball side. I wouldn't be shocked if he eventually tried to sell it. That would not surprise me. The United Center share and the basketball I think that stays in his family Long term. 3123323776 is our phone number will get two more of your calls, and Jim Boylan speaks for the first time. So we'll just be doing the rest of the solar system to. Be going in order. To begin with. What is the solar system? The planetary system we call home is located in outer spiral arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. That's our neighborhood. Our solar system consists of our star. The Sun and everything bound to it by gravity. The planets mercury Venus, Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus and Neptune as well as dwarf planets, such as Pluto dozens of moons and millions of asteroids, comets and meteoroid. The solar system also includes the Kuyper belt that lies past Neptune's orbit, which way back there. This is a sparsely occupied ring of bodies, almost all smaller than the most popular Kuyper. And it has never been directly observed, but its existence is predicted based on mathematical models and observations comments that likely originate from there. So. The or cloud is made of icy pieces of space debris, the sizes of mountains and sometimes larger orbiting our son as far as one point six light years away. This shell of material is thick extending from five thousand astronomical units to one hundred thousand astronomical units, so an astronomical unit just for Reference One Astronomical Unit or AU is the distance from the sun to the earth. And that is about ninety three million miles or one hundred and fifty million kilometers. So one astronomical unit is ninety three million miles so. The ORT cloud is anywhere from five thousand, two hundred thousand astronomical units, so it's enormous. God I. Don't think about okay. The boundary where the solar wind is abruptly slowed by pressure from interstellar gases is called the termination shock, so it's like the edge of the bubble. Okay where it crosses into it. this edge occurs between eighty one hundred astronomical units, so that's the outer boundary of the Helius fear. And I've mentioned this before, but to NASA, spacecraft launched in seventy seven have crossed the termination shock, voyager, one and two thousand four in Voyager, two in two thousand seven. for more on that checkout episodes thirty five moms and space for the voyager program. How the Warriors stack up against Jordan's Bulls

"Everybody in the free world. Watch the last dance the other night. It appears Draymond. Green did too and draymond green went on a podcast yesterday. uninterrupted W RT s after. Show party with Paul Rivera and Maverick Carter. No less And he likened their last season with Kevin Durant the warriors to what he had just watched on. Tv with the last season of the Bulls and he didn't hold back and he said one of the things from watching it. Was that what you saw? Is everybody kind of set it up like this is going to be the last year and so there was none of that elephant in the room hanging out there for their team That last warriors team with Durant and said that you know. Steve tried to deal with it but Kevin was asked about it every day. Dream on saying I want to be a warrior for Life Klay say and I want to be a warrior for life and then there was this elephant in the room the entire year and it was almost as if he watched the last dance and thought Jeez They handled that a lot. Better like hanging out there the whole year. Everybody knew that was going to be the end and so they just treated it that way the whole year. What you guys think. I mean ownership didn't handle it better. The player of the players may have the players may have handled it at worst. And Scottie Pippen you know getting the surgery when he did wanting out you know Jordan thinking was selfish but ownership on the warriors side of things. At least their goal is building with sustainability. They WANNA keep steph curry and Klay Thompson and continue winning. Reisen Dorf in Krause and the Bulls were ready to pull the plug after the first three championships. Trying to trade pippen for camp granted that still a win but then after it it's about China. Tear Down Arriba. I don't see that from the warriors now but it is fascinating. How much history has repeated in some ways with the disease of more and whatnot that manifested with Katie? Always being jealous of steph curry in the spotlight that he received and you look at what the Bulls went through in the nineties. I it is hard to see the parallels from the players side. We think I didn't see it. I just think Jerry mind was a I think he was a little narcissistic with it is totally different situation. Durant in that situation is basically the Rodman character. Rodman was on the Bulls for three years. Durant shows up for three years pushes him to another level but other I mean the bulls thing was so different Jordan and pippen were together for you know twelve years and there were Phil Jackson for. I don't know it was at least nine or whatever and everything was the same and they were just going going going and they had all these different ups and downs and that warriors thing you know they durant was on that team for blip was if you add up when when he actually showed up and then when he left. It's less than three years. It's like thirty months It's not a perfect comparable for for either team. But I do think you know the players you know seeking that attention. Wanting what's there's at I think with that aspect there's some similarities but overall though I mean I'm with you in the sense that ownership in front office objectives here are far different in what the Bulls wanted to do in the nineties with Crowson. Reisen Dorf is far different than what the warriors are trying to do with Myers and and warriors ownership. Now right I mean the differences with the warriors thing. It was one person undermining the whole thing. Durant yeah the Bulls thing it was. It was like a bad marriage with you. Know eight nine different people. All knowing like the marriage is ending and I think with the warriors they kept trying to pull durant back in that second season when he was there was when it started to fall apart in the third season. I still feel like they felt like it might be salvageable until they had that clippers game and then after that I think there are some similarities with the chemistry. Let's say let's say this. Let's say draymond. His way would have played out the way he wanted to write like. I don't buy for one second. If Kevin Durant started that season said this is my last year with the warriors it still would have been a problem like the right here the whole year by the way. He should have done that though. That's how he should have handled it and I think part of the problem is he didn't handle it that way. And you know the players and the team new organization. They knew he was leaving. They knew about all the New York stuff they thought it was gonna be the Knicks but they knew he was leaving. It was by especially by February march ever in the league new so I think from that standpoint underminded what's the elephant in the room. That draymond talking about that. You know what I'm saying if they all had this understanding Kevin. Ain't going to be with US after this year. Then why is he acting like it was a problem throughout the entire year? That Kevin was just saying Oh. I don't know we'll see we'll because I think Kevin probably agree with this. I think there was still hope that he might do a one eighty. You know I I think that. And honestly with the with the ninety eight balls and you're gonNA find out in the tenth part it came a lot closer to everybody coming back except for Rodman I I think they knew Rodman was done but I think once they actually won. I think there was a moment there where they were like Holy Shit. What are we doing? We gotTA defend this again.

"Partly because the weather. You're going to be so bad. I uh story where they're they're willing to pay fans to come shovel snow lambeau or something like that. But now you're you're you're you're absolutely right with to break quarterbacks and you know in this game yet. Russell Wilson You know and the the amount of magic imagine that you can pull out of a broken play Is is just incredible. And he got Aaron Rodgers. Who can pull magic out of a hat as well L. I.? The difference in this and I think the packers are GonNa win I I just think the packer defense is going to be able to impose. It's well on the offensive line Seattle. I that's been a problem for the seahawks all year. Russell's been on the been on the run a little bit more than usual For his life this the season because about offense of blind and I think the packers are going to be able to get pressure on him and get some saks. Maybe even get a couple of turnovers Russia you know. It's hard to think that Russell Wilson is going to be rushing through it throw but you never know the game conditions and and and what's on the line here for both teams you know mistakes could occur but I just think packer defense is going to be the deciding factor today and Lambeau speaking of going at and on the line today Pete Carroll been around for a long time obviously he's been in the wars matlock floors. First opportunity with the Green Bay. Packers Akers the season went. Great obviously thirteen and three but Do you think that that plays any factor experience wise as far as coaching goes. Oh experience always plays a factor in anything in life than the more experience you got something better The turn out can be for you but look it may not have experienced but it has Aaron Rodgers..

"Point in the game. I don't I don't know if we saw twelve point the whole year less than twelve point the whole year out of the Raven. I did tell you that. I thought that the titans had the formula and the recipe to Baltimore and re CAV. It can come out of their victorious Glorious and I didn't really think what happened. I don't know if I believe what I was selling myself. But you know what they did. Congratulations to the titans. Congratulations the forty niners. Who will break that game down on the other side? Keep a close. Everybody Mike Wilson. Andy Dwarf Guinea through another door font sports weekend edition. Thank Mariota Rolling Right. They're GONNA scream at the Henry. "On twitter were Mike. It's pigskin opinion. Maybe the best twitter handle of all time for me. It's Dwarf on Sports and Oh my gosh what an unbelievable bull night in the NFL with what happened. The Titans go on the road to Baltimore Win. Twenty eight to twelve Derrick Henry is is an absolute beast the guy goes thirty carries one hundred ninety five yards and after a couple of games. This guy is just setting the mark and setting the standard standard for running backs like we have not seen before in the other game. The forty niners really locked down on the Minnesota Vikings Twenty seven to ten. Dan and it wasn't like the Baltimore Ravens. Were unable to throw offense up there. I mean the Mark Jackson has three hundred sixty five yards. It's passing they go for over five hundred yards total in general Mike when you talk about All the offensive output there. They were unable to get it in the end zone. John and then they went forward a few times and fourth down they were unable to convert those Just just a bad showing from our Jackson at three hundred three turnovers which is really not a good game for him as we know it was just a a really really troublesome mind-boggling the head scratching effort put out there by the Baltimore Ravens and I think you actually said it pretty well. They looked like they were unprepared. And it's hard hard to believe that you can be unprepared for a divisional round playoff game. So congratulations to the Tennessee. Titans congratulations to the forty forty niners. Both of you guys were very well prepared and you know what. Shame on the Minnesota Vikings and Shaimaa the Baltimore Ravens for going out there and being unprepared prepared for the biggest game of the football season for both of those teams Mike. Oh absolutely and you know. I'll just start with the ravens event because look. They had two weeks. They had two weeks to prepare for this game against the titans and like I said earlier. They looked unprepared And let's not forget. I mean Lamar. Had you know he had a hundred forty three yards rushing out over three three hundred yards passing and you know so he he put up off into numbers but those turnovers came at inopportune times. I at least one. Everyone came deep in Ravens territory. So you give. Derrick Henry and that offense Tennessee a short field That doesn't do you any good. And then I don't know about you but I'm sitting there watching the game just I'm a I'm I'm stunned. Want you know for one but two. How many dropped balls were the were the ravens receivers dropping for Lamar? That were very catchable balls right. Oh you know right in their hands right place where you know it's GonNa be fairly easy catch for for a professional football player. But then a lot of dropped balls. They had some penalties. And the turnovers. Just like you said and I've said here briefly. Just kill them last night and you know what I don't feel sorry. Hey for Baltimore. I'm not you know I'm not throwing pity on them. They just didn't show up to play The game last night and in Tennessee what they had nothing to lose their look. They're playing with house money man and they they showed up Cana- hill dear Lord Tanna Hill L.. Was You know pretty you know what does it say. Seven fourteen eighty eight yards something like that and it was that that deep ball dude. The right down the middle of the field right into the end zone When his receiver just split the too high safeties on? I mean that that kind of sums it up for for me and then and then Henry another hundred. I don't know what do you have. One hundred ninety five yards rushing. I mean Look Henry is six club four. He's roughly two hundred and fifty pounds. I don't know if I'm a defensive back how I would bring that guy down. That dude is just flat out scary to bring down. And he's a man among boys you said earlier in the show And look everybody got put on notice last week about Tennessee. And if you're not put on notice about outgoing into Baltimore and beating them down by Tennessee then I I don't know what you're smoking. Look I said it earlier In the season and I said I thought the big problem for the Baltimore. Ravens was going to be dependent way too heavily on the Mark Jackson. When you think about what happened on the football field yesterday for them? Lamar Jackson thirty one fifty nine. Three hundred and sixty five yards had to throw the ball L. Fifty nine times to get those three hundred sixty five yards has one touchdown a couple of interceptions a really bad day in general as far as throwing the football field so the the amount of yards cannot be mistaken. By how many mistakes he made as well two interceptions to the one touchdown that's not a good ratio to three hundred learned. Sixty five yards. Looks good but it took him fifty nine yards or I'm sorry fifty nine attempts to get that he had to run the ball twenty times to get one hundred and forty three yards. Nobody ody else does anything. That's my whole point here. Marcus Brown. That's your big wide receiver. He gets you one hundred twenty six yards but ultimately this is the Lamar Jackson show man and I think that that is what ultimately did them in at the end of the day man. You have to have more tricks in your bag when you look at. What Tennessee did Derrick? Henry not only ran the ball Mike for one hundred ninety five yards you. As you alluded to but Ryan Tannehill Russia's for touchdown Derrick Henry throws for a touchdown so they used a little trickery. They were just a little bit more prepared like you said to go out out there and have an effective day and go on and advance in the playoffs and Kudos to Mike Variable for having a great game plan and you know what I've been all about John Audubon saying hey he's done a great job coaching and this and that and the other you know what they got coach yesterday my flat out. They got out coach. You gotTA give a lot of credit to Tennessee. They have been doing their job. They have been studying. They have been doing everything that they need to do to have their team prepared and the Tennessee titans deserve to be in the AFC championship the game. In my humble opinion. Oh no absolutely I mean the Tim Tebow junk pass from Derek into the end zone for the touchdown was just the icing on the cake. Last night I mean that that is something that they saw. They figured that they could pull out if needed. And they pulled it out and it was needed and it was just it was fantastic. Play but let's not you know. I don't think we've talked about that titans defense. Yeah that titans defense they had a spy on Lamar when he got out and ran they. Could you know go to them Even though Lamar had a hundred forty three yards I mean. That's I mean. That's pretty good for a quarterback to get that many yards last night But there's a lot of times dorf where they made the Mar- not go north and south. A Ah they got him going East and West when you stretch a guy out like that. He doesn't really pick up a ton of yard and they did it. The titans just did it enough to get three outs to stop a drive in those kinds of things so that type of defense to me. They really played really well. Look look they. They held the Ravens to twelve.

"With Mike Wilson. I would be the Andy Door if you can get at us in a couple of different ways. Hit US up on twitter follow us. There's well for Mike. It's pigskin opinion for me. It store fonds sports hit us up on the phone online. Let's talk about whatever's on your mind in the sports world one eight hundred eight seven eight seven five two nine but like advertise as we said before we went to break we are now going to hook up with Sam McCullough and quite frankly Mike I like to think of Our next guest as an artist to be quite honest with you A very a creative guy an individual that I happen to know pretty well But let's welcome Sam McCullough to the show Sam you got the Dorfman and then you've obviously got my tag team partner in crime. Mike Wilson. Thank you for joining us. Good morning my friend how are you. I'm killing how's it going guys can't complain so tell us a little bit about yourself yourself first and foremost Your background in the Sports World Yourself. Sure so obviously Give it a music now. I I I was a professional soccer player. I was baseball player going up baseball soccer player and played it a division two college level out in Pennsylvania. There's one to a national championship. NFL semi file And then left school to go play overseas in Ireland Israel so played overseas for about two two and a half years Came back and now I'm still doing a bit like amateur level but I coach soccer Support watching everything going ahead. And Yeah that's that is the voice of San McCullough hanging out with us we. We lost them for the moment. So we'll have to try to get him back in a second but what we're talking to him about by the way Mike and Obviously you know this but we'll let listeners know. Women's Olympic qualifier is happening here pretty soon in Houston Texas and in Carson California California. Obviously we're talking about the US women's national team and this is a team. That's really good by the way too. So I think I think we've got Sam back. Sam Talk a little bit about the women's national soccer team. Sure Last year they won the World Cup up huge seat for them I think in the US has laws overseas. They had like world spotlight on them with. I think some toilet echo things going on But there are really really impressive They play quickly. They are by five more skill than most other teams in the world And they have a lot of they have a lot of events and Right now going into The twenty twenty. I won't that qualify as you're actually At the end of the month So I think they've qualified for the Olympics five the last five times in a row so I think they. Obviously I have a leg up in a good shot to do that. But they're really exciting team at the moment just because I think obviously they're so much more successful in the man it's a bit Unusual I think from Austin Eric in sports So they are like they're just they have to it it has to be talked about One of the greatest sort of I guess you could call them. Maybe dynasties over the years not. Obviously they're not the same as like Ah Professional. NBA team NFL team. But just over the course of their The last ten fifteen years. They kind of incredible they've been able to achieve. No I agree I agree one hundred percent and I and you and I talked about this a little bit the other day off the air and you know what I find the women's game soccer game to be obviously a lot more fun to watch me personally. Then the men's game like the ball control in the men's game seems like it's way amy more than in the women's game like you said they get up to down the field a little bit and I feel like the men's game is slower. I mean my correct or am I incorrect. On that I I I the game faster be you know just based on. Obviously it's I think the level of athlete is is faster and I think especially in Europe The game it just itself just flows quicker but I will say that I think they did. This did a study here. Like a a bit of research into the women like during the women's World Cup to see actual speed of play and it was I mean it was very It was very similar is more similar to the men's game more than it's ever been as a fitness level so it just goes to show how much better the athletes are getting kind of How how much? The women's game is progress over the last ten years. Now I think it's it's amazing man it really all right so tell people how they can contact you or how they go about getting tickets and where these games will be played as well absolutely so The three the way that the qualifying tournament works is that there's three group stage matches in Houston that BBVA stadium These these Games on January twenty eighth the January thirty first and February third so it plays the three groups days matches against Haiti Panama. Costa Rica and then once you advanced from the group stage as to There's like a double hundred seventy final and then it just goes straight to the states in the semi final. Oh I don't the final and the semis and the final are both in Cussin' California at the chargers stadium So anyone who's looking for like business drew tickets on go and take take their friends. Mrs Whatever they can get in touch with me your email at See Eleven and two at. I can't be eleven. Marketing Dot Com. Say One more time. So it's C.. Eleven Opera Casey Eleven and two at I can't we eleven so C. N. T. W. E. One one marketing dot com. And you can hook you up with all tickets or whatever. Whatever would I mean get from Strengthen the venue so and with Wallace season tickets very good my man and obviously obviously you're a sports guy yourself and so just just a quick when we can't let you run without without giving us your thoughts and and make it kind of general but in general. I want your thoughts on what you saw on the football field at least from Saturday. So if I'm yesterday yes you got it. I think I think that the Games obviously to begin to tighten credit incredible that the ravens lost. I thought they was going to be a super bowl team But I think that with the packers and obviously you know. That's our team. If they if they advanced today they win today. I think they got a good chance man. Of course of course rather and then Obviously the Vikings go down to the forty niners and that one. I don't think anybody was all that shocked about that but I do think the big shock was obviously the Ravens Evans falling. And the way that Lamar Jackson just wasn't very very good out there to be quite honest with you and the guy was fantastic all season long. Hey One more time tell people how they can get the tickets Obviously and how they can check things out with the women's soccer team that's coming up in a couple of weeks in California and so Email best way to get in touch with us For discounted tickets for the US women's National Team Games In qualifiers is by getting in touch with me via email at Upper JC eleven. So see what one and two at can't we. Eleven Marketing Dot Com C. A. N. T. W. Eleven marketing dot com for the group stage matches in Huston. The thirty I twenty thirty first and then the semi final and final turns out fury seventh and ninth in Carson California. The chargers Tiger Stadium. Appreciate Your Time Sam. McCullough is given out. They're not giving out trying to sell. Those tickets. Obviously gave you a couple of different ways to get a hold of him. Hey Man I know that. They're soccer lovers all over the place and we obviously try to get you just about everything that we can all the information that we can't about everything going on in the sports it's world so keep a close everybody on the other side. We're going to switch gears. We're going to talk some college basketball with us. We have none other than the Great Greg Peterson Peterson from vs. In live and obviously a couple of things. We'll get into that in just a moment so keep a close. Everybody Mike Wilson Andy Dorf getting you through another door font sports weekend edition unexplored victory for the USA. "Nine eastern time the man who plays deputy in deputy none other than Stephen Dorf could see Sir thank you buddy thanks for having thanks for being here yeah following your voice is and gravelly and ready to roll right it's just ready to roll rich Eisen show by the way we needed to try to get a yeah do that one more time because you haven't or from three to one ready to roll on the rich Eisen show that is a good thanks for coming on Stephen at not all right no wow so so you're you're born and raised in a new land or born in Atlanta Lana because my dad went to college at the university of Georgia so okay that may hold all dog yeah still kinda have a bulldog thing in long lines in my family because my dad still good buddies with Vince Dooley who is the old code yeah and funny enough we're shooting this pilot we shop half of it in Atlanta and I was at dinner at the chop house which was the steak cancer the hotel I've been there and Vince Dooley was there and I hadn't seen him since I was a little kid so I went up to him and he immediately you know knew me and his wife was really friendly and we talked we call my dad together and it was he's a really nice man because I went when Herschel Walker was on that team back when I was like twelve right gene I went to the Georgia game and sat on the sidelines with them and make it my dad we had a really close relationship with them with Vince so you're grown up and that's uncle French that we call among okay it was it was definitely you know he's still a good friend of my dads and and right and I still like the I still root for the Bulldogs here and there but I'm trying to do the math would that be I'll go three of the four I can't I I I'm with how many up ten sorry wow yeah and I mean I was born there and I moved to LA when I was about four months old so my dad was a song writer and and when you finish college is from New York but my mom was visiting my dad's okay had me and **** kid in Atlanta and then we we moved to the San Fernando Valley when I was three months old right and my dad wrote some hit songs and you have any your what what what should I write my dad's first big one was every which way but loose from the clean on any rabbit yeah I was I was six months old and and then your dad wrote every which way yeah yeah so does that mean did you go on the set of every which way are you on the set but I love that that it rang a tank and I was one of my dad as I could but we could even talk because those will be a year old okay sure okay really young when as I as I got older because my dad ended that the client did like three of those in the Bronco Billy than any which way you can my dad to kinda all of Clint's movies for that kind of with that for sure okay so claims around a tank longer than that arranged in a longer and then got out but I always get my dad crap because I said dad you stop scoring Clint's movies when he started making really like Unforgiven and some amazing movies but now yeah with Clint and my dad I think remain good buddies and you know he's always I've met him a few times Justin my own career yes auditioning for movies along the way and always been really sweet about my dad and nice to me that's so cool so does Stephen Dorf you're on the rich Eisen show is there any I guess growing up in LA any specific LA sports team met you I mean I always love the Dodgers and I always you know and that was you know I always love the Lakers to have been you know I'm a huge basketball fan I love basketball the clippers are pretty awesome too yeah there were ever any a golden age potentially for over the next couple weeks years of Los Angeles basketball the Lakers fans don't want to ever acknowledge that late hours could possibly make anything better I still have laws here in this town yeah I still have a love for the you know the purple and yellow in in a way I think maybe just because of all the years of being in LA in going to those games in but you must be talking out the form the old form form and then yeah into staples but I probably went to more games at the form because since that show time now you're talking about Showtime Lakers there yeah can about worthy in magic and with the hair slicked back and all that business yeah for sure I think you know for me the for me the I I've just been gone working or I'd be a more games this year I'm kinda every time I see my friend at the staples center I'm like I want to go to a game but I'm never here right so you got to kind of be here Hey look it when you're on a show like deputy in your your you you got to you got to work this out of working for a living you know and as well so before we dive a little bit deeper into deputy true detective what was that like to be on the third season of of that show that I was awesome I mean it was a you know I I just come from a kind of a not a great spot in my personal life I had lost my little brother and in a tragic accident I was really kind of thinking about skipping out on this whole Hollywood thing for a while is already here that yeah I really just you know came out of nowhere and shouldn't happened and from there I got this great gifts you know from from nic Pizzolatto and HBO offered me this incredibly rich part in true detective in the writing was just so incredible and then to get to work opposite Marshall Ali for three decades and grow old with him right that was a dream you know that was a I was a really incredible after that I did a film it hasn't come out yet that's I'm really proud of to call them battles which is this kind of family drama set against the backdrop of USC so I it's pretty pretty gripping film I think that'll probably be in the summer the general deputy before death I mean let's rest on that one out right there did you get into the world of you have seen I've got I've done some mixed martial arts in films like I did a film called Fallon and I worked with I worked with a lot of Greg Jackson's team in New Mexico during that filming and I'd met cow boy in a lot of these big fighters Aronian teacher dean and on the movie we had caliber was in there too we had Tyrone Woodley with Kenny Florian we had some really great guys plane announcers and and involves I I worked with a guy named Chris Connelly use out of Alabama who is a great trainer and and learn a little bit more I mean it was it's a pretty intense film I play kind of a fictitious lightweight champion but come on his way out kind of like a an American Conor McGregor if if there was one what he's he's a beast of care and that would be that very outspoken I'm just trying to determine how much **** you could kick who's asking you kick Stephen Dorf you know right yeah you know I'm I'm more of a lover than a fighter rich but in the Monaco a divider but I'm just yeah yeah that's the way I where I roll the same way too I know you do my default I heard about you know yeah and I'm excited about that so I mean it's pretty heavy hit and it was written by the guy that wrote American history acts and hello Dave McKenna he's a really talented writers or time director okay and so we'll see how that one goes sure then I then I went right into deputy bill Hollister and deputy runs and that's been kind of going for a while so which step it is a different show than to detective is a is a little more I think popcorn is little more for for the world you know it's it's not as neat sh maybe of an audience it's it's really made for America and why do you say that Stephen Dorf here again deputy episode two season one airs on Thursday night I think he's on I think we need new broadcast television which you know is just so big and it it reaches so many more people and I think you know you have commercials you use a different way of working as a different medium and in a way same time it's a I love the fact that we can reach so many people and I like I like bill Hollister because he's kind of a no nonsense kind of anti hero but he is a he is a good man any in any has great morals and he throws himself in the in the middle of harm's way every day you know for for people that he doesn't know and probably never will know but that's his job and there's something about law enforcement in general that I have a huge respect for you know whether it's fire manner yes you workers in New York and I've I've played Scott Strauss the World Trade Center sure is an incredible person I'm gonna know all these great guys were really the real heroes you know what we do fact yeah that's a fact when we when we do what we do we try to you know give it as much re I try to give as much realism I try to talk to these guys as much as I can right you know we've working with a great guy mark Slagle on the show who is a sergeant in the LA sheriff's department and he's just an incredible person you know he can't be on set all the time with me but is there a lot and he's got a family and a job to do which is put away bad cat so right but I've got an incredible time getting to know these guys and and try to do it some justice you know again Thursdays at nine eastern time on fox how many times do you have I got a lot now that I've you know missing members of my family so I've I've been kind of going a little hay wire I spent a little more time in the make up chair the Hollister doesn't have any tabs on me time I usually it's a make up of the make up thing which is you know I I hate being in make up but you know I.

"Because it doesn't have as much liquors you want it to ask that extra shot in there. But if it's you know, it's usually two for one at happy hour there. "And pit Salata loaded his scripts with philosophical efforts inspired by the rubber chambers collection. The king in yellow now back for third season Pitt lotto has regained his footing in the magic in his pen. This. Time he defies expectations by turning cop drama into a meditation on social isolation. He details the way adult by CS and self interest fail the most vulnerable members of society, it's children. Marcia Ali is remarkable as the embittered antisocial, Wayne Hayes, a Vietnam vet who craves little more than the company of liquor and an empty VFW hall. He and his partner Roland west played by Stephen Dorf, our detectives with the Arkansas state police a white high school student will pursell and his older sister Julie have disappeared in nineteen eighty from their tiny mostly white mostly poor town of west finger Arkansas director, Jeremy sonya's time-line jumps from nineteen eighty to nineteen ninety when the case is reopened to twenty fifteen. When a journalist interviews Hayes about his work Hayes. Meanwhile, struggling to sort out what happened before. For the fog of Alzheimer's permanently. Clouds, his brain. Depicting Hayes, especially as an elderly man waited with regrets is an exercise in restraint eilly pulls it off with a plumb black residents. Don't trust Hayes because he wears a police badge at the precinct his instincts, carry less weight than his white partners. Hayes knows his race limits. His professional progress if fuels the way he pulls away from people which in turn worsens, his prospects for advancement pizzicato understands that the racial dynamics of west finger don't just create divisions. They forced people together to Hayes Mary's the only other middle-class black person in town will pursell high school English teacher Amelia Reardon played with deceptive ease by Carmen jogo. They expertly recreate the instant report that forms between black people who've never met casually chatting about everyday racism, like they're discussing the weather. You know, they're talking about white people. Even if they never say white people from long been teaching about six years all their Westminster. Hey, you say Sarah style from a boss. I'm sorry. Just you know police. I was it here. You know? It's fine. Good really what it is. Here's something then then. Air all poor around here. That's the main thing. What you know me? You know? We're in the hallway or something. They're careful around me, the kinship between Amelia and Hayes could be deeper, but Hayes remains distant Emilia takes an interest in the Priscilla case and her amateur sleuthing turns valuable clues but Hayes too consumed with his own frustrations. Can't appreciate his wife's effort nor her skill. This perhaps is the biggest improvement of the whole series Amelia is nothing like the feebly drawn female characters of the first season. She has real purpose. The first two positions move like molasses on a cold morning. But it soon becomes clear that everyone in west finger, including Hayes, his wife, his partner, and the parents of the missing Priscilla children is starved for connection. Nevertheless, they keep erecting walls to divide themselves from each other in doing. So they repeatedly obstruct the best chances. They have to find out what happened to will. And Julie the production design reinforces west fingers grimness. The town is full of rusted out cars and ramshackle houses and everything exists in a palette of dull Browns and miserable. Grays I've seen five of this season's eight episodes. And the most compelling mystery of true detective is understanding why Hayes has withdrawn from the world around him. It's also about how that withdrawal is a response to larger societal forces including but not limited to racism at this point. I'm wondering can a man who spent decades most comfortable inside his own head for June of connections in time to solve the case taunted him, or will Alzheimer's doom him and the persona children. Forever. Psoriatic McDonald is the culture critic for the undefeated true detective returns to HBO.
