"Decisions aren't black and white. Think red. Here's Rob would fork right, Mike, if you would have said Before the season, the Washington football team would have the same record of the San Francisco 40 Niners. After 12 games. Most fans would take that. But today's game is between five and seven teams playing on the fringe of playoff contention. Alex Smith. It's amazing. Obviously, it should just be playing honestly meaningful games in December. You know what that said, Like I said, We haven't accomplished anything. At all. Yeah, I mean, we have to keep the same mindset that we've had these last these last few weeks. But yes, And it is fun to be playing me for football this time a year, and, you know, it just gets bigger every week as you're in it, and that's really what you want, and Smith going up against a team that drafted him first overall, coming up in less than 10 minutes. "Good staff tosses Gibson and he cannot pull in trying to lead him a little bit down that left sideline. Just let him a bit too far in its second goal. Yeah, just a little bit too far with outstretched hands of Gibson. Those two guys Gibson McKissick have been great, catching the ball out of the backfield early on. I'll tell you what give a ton of credit to Scott Turner and the creativity we saw the little surprise play. They just did the McKissick with Smith taking the snap and basically just puts the football underneath the bottom of McKissick, and he grabs it. And then, of course, the Logan Thomas passed in the previous drive down the field to Terry McLaurin second and goal at the 10 yard line. 12 play of this Washington Drive down 10 7. They ended up tripping JD McKissick and Logan Thomas. We're trying to run a combination route where they cross and they got too close to each other, and both of them stumbled, and by that.

"If paramount winds up in the middle it'll linebacker job because you gotta feel like paran and white and thomas davis or the three best linebackers on the roster right now so <hes> just really good to see the development in new oh soo he's developing counters. He's getting around the edge in a hurry he just he looks like one of the chargers best defenders and he's we know he's a backup defensive end right now covering from melvin ingram basically so exciting to see that both those guys playing really well yeah no definitely ari right. Go ahead and give me another story line from the offense. <hes> i'll go with a positive at least in terms of a positive performance even if it might hurt us to admit it. I think you know where i'm going. You know we. We've been very critical of jones basically since he got here he's he's l- lost for most of his time here in the preseason. He actually looked somewhat under control. He was making good reeds made some good throws. He had a couple that were a little high but there the receivers were able to pull them in and outside of holding the ball to a couple of times. <hes> cartel looked as good as he's looked basically since he got here in two thousand seventeen anthony leads said as much <hes> you know after the game it was one of those first comments he couldn't wait to say talk about how good cartel jones looked how was his best game as a charger and how you can see the benefits of him spending three years in the same system. It's finally starting to pay off so the ah the bright side of that is obviously cartel. He played very well. The team likes him for whatever reason and they're excited to see him perform well <hes> the downside of that is for those also view <hes> eastern stick fans who did not play well it seems like stick lost some major ground carl jones and again jones and was the second quarterback to come on the field not stick after his performance last week kind of gives you an idea of where stick is and the competition right now so kudos the jones for playing well and oh shit. They're gonna keep three quarterbacks and jones and the third quarterback yet again. He very well could be which is a scary thought but you know i hate to admit it but he seemed like the best chargers quarterback on the field on sunday he played better than in my opinion you play they better than tyrod in eastern stick. I think that dr after the jaylen watkins interception where he drove from inside their ten their own the to all the away down the touchdown marshon all the way down the field to an easy pitch and catched andrea pat and i mean it was methodical. We would have been raving about it if suzy's and stick. Maybe a little bit more excitement in my voice if it was easing stick but you know. I guess he's not dead yet. We'll see what happens in game three and four but i still have a hard time believing that they'll cut eastern. Stick spending a fifth round pick on him four guy cardo jones but we'll see i mean cartels definitely closing in. It's no longer like last week. Just get cordell and don't even let him catch the bus ride home to oh shit. There's an national competition to kiwi three now to encarta jones in eastern stink and joe's might be the third quarterback so god. We'll see man two more games and hopefully houston stick shows up yeah. I mean that drive. You mentioned <hes> after watkins. Pick was phenomenal. I mean starting on the two <hes>. There's a penalty that they overcame he. He took a massive hit on. I think a second or third down throw to culkin to convert a first down and extend the dr <hes> the play that he made the throw that he made to <hes> andre patent for the touchdown was a perfect read with the saints and zero coverage <hes> no safety deep and he just threw it out through it out in front. The patent run out running catch. It was perfect <hes>. He even had a solid drive on his next drive. It's stalled on what i thought. Were a couple of bad calls. There was a face mask..

"<hes> going into the season and showing and <hes> you you know there's not much else you can say. They're bad <hes> the chances of them getting a whole lot. Better are probably slim <hes>. I just seemed like i mean those tackles. Ios manages seem like they're reaching and grabbing and lunging on every play giving up pressure to the inside getting beat around the outside getting bull rushed. They just have no answer. There's no the anchor there. There's no footwork there and pipkins. I mean he's getting you know. Fork lifted by linebackers carried back into the pocket <hes>. He looks like he's terrified and intimidated. The footwork team talked about just does not seem to be there. I know he's athletic. He had one or two blocks where he looked. Okay okay out in space in the running game but man past protections a problem so i do think the interior the line will be pretty good be it'll. It'll be interesting to see if they go with fini or lamp guard. It seems like right now. The way things are going. It's probably going to be phoenix because the only time we see lamp at left. Guard is when feeney's playing center so it seems like feeney's gonna wind up winning that job maybe lamp will have to earn his way in or maybe they'll rotate them <hes> but <hes>. I'm not as worried about the interior as i am. The edges the big problem yeah especially when you start to think about these pass rushers in the a._f._c. west and when the game start mattering so we'll go ahead and move on a defense and i just want to lump two guys in and i kind of mentioned him a little bit earlier but we'll talk about kaiser white new wosa because they have some really good place early on in that a game on the saints i drive 'cause you're white how to tackle for loss on latavius murray's re hyphen in the backfield stuck them in the backfield on the next play benzine the edge you almost got the sack and bridgewater fires to throw this off line and that's a throw that brayshaw jenkins agai you mentioned earlier almost had that interception where it seemed like he had it in his fingertips for good good six seconds that's holding running the sideline almost cradling his fingertips and then it falls to the ground i thought he was gonna interception and then the very next drive is is your white sniffs out a pass out in the flat. Zach line ends up closing minimal game. Two plays later on a third nate. Kaiser white is in zone bridgewater's forces stepped in the pocket doc it kaiser white reason bridgewater looks to go run as kyw's years closing bridgewater bales decides to throw it and it's an errant throw it goes over the receiver receiver and so because you're white had an effect on two of those three plays on that dr chen woes who had a big hit on third down on the saints first possession of the half and you know they were both all all over the field the real news now is the new oh soo injury because after the third quarter touchdown he was rushing off the right side died and he just kind of came up lame a little bit and after that he had his abdomen wrapped up he didn't return so hopefully who's going to be good to go soon now. I anti lynch said he was a little bit sore today so we'll see he didn't rule out him playing or at least practicing this week so <hes> you know i guess it's he was a little murky on his injury status. Yeah both those guys are great. <hes> kaiser white just looked so instinctive at middle linebacker aggressive. He had a great run stop where he threw the line. <hes> got a tackle for loss. He seemed like he was everywhere. Sideline to sideline coming downhill. He looked absolutely fantastic and new. Oh soo looks like a completely different player this preseason now some of that's been against backup offensive lineman but he look explosive off the edge. There's a lot of ben there. He it looks really good playing with his hand in the dirt to the point that you almost wonder if they're going to bother playing him at sam. Maybe maybe we get to see your white at sam. If paramount winds up in the middle it'll linebacker job because you gotta feel like paran and white and thomas davis or the three best linebackers on the roster right now so.

"Team. They're giving guys a chance to see if they can stick and expect some of that sloppiness but it's been so sloppy. That's pretty alarming so hopefully they can straighten that out so talk to me about your less worried about. What's one thing that you were less worried about going into the season. <hes> i would say one position that i am less worried about just based on where they are. In terms of the competition petition is i wasn't sure what to expect from race on jenkins going into the going into the preseason knowing he was going to be in the lead for snaps at least when camp started and really not having anybody to push him <hes> you know i was at the game on sunday and you know it seemed like he was covering a lot of ground made a couple of nights tackles. <hes> i got his hands ends on a couple of passes. He seems like he's moving a lot better and covering a lot more ground and making much faster reads and we we obviously know he can tackle so. He seems like he might be nice. Another one of those nice interchangeable fits back there and safety where he can play. Maybe a little strong safety play little free safety but certainly handle that deep center field and maybe we do a pretty good job doing it. Pick a different answer than you. I guess linebackers. I wasn't quite sure how would that. I'll would turn out. We haven't seen thomas davis but kaiser white look like an animal on sunday. Drew tranquil made some plays in the preseason janitor. Whoa sue has had a strong preseason and got banged up and game but he's also so been more valeo than a sam but denzel perryman playing little rusty but got that big hit on a fumble so through two preseason games not so bad of course i'm leaving out nick designer because that would drag the whole gray down but for now. I'm not as worried about the linebackers going in the season yeah. I think that's fair. I think there's a group they played pretty well and you seen some ascension from some of the guys that were kind of in the middle or bottom of the depth chart last year and it's really nice to have kaiser kaiser white back healthy because that's a guy who i think can do a lot of damage as middle linebacker in this in this defense if the guys in front of them hold up yeah all right so let's go talk about a couple of things before we break down this game against the saints and first off <hes> right before we recorded this podcast the chargers announced that they released the long long time long snapper mike win and they ended up signing the old veteran dontrelle inman the wide receiver to add to this <hes> receiving corps yeah. It was a little surprising to see them. Let go of mike went who has been with the team for ten years and was really the only part of the field goal unit that they didn't seemed to have any interest in examining with with any real you know vigor <hes> last last year when they're having all those issues with sturgis kicking missing kicks <hes> seemed like they were just dug in and he was not the problem and they were gonna they were gonna blame it on the holder or the kicker whatever they do to protect him and they brought in cole mazda in march a guy who was one of the top long snapper is in the af <hes> last year and it seems like they've. They've decided that mazas their guy you know he's i guess. They feel like he's playing well. He's obviously less expensive than ben so little surprising to see them cut at this stage of the pre season but i guess they figured they give them a chance to find a job somewhere else <hes> and then bringing back in again a little surprising <hes> in just in the sense that you know they decided he didn't fit what two years ago and traded him away and now they bring him back. It makes some sense when you look at the wide receiver depth chart and lack doc experience behind alan benjamin williams which is something that we've talked about on the show on more than one occasion <hes> in. I like bringing him back. I think he'll push the young guys..

We're covering storylines from the chargers lost the saints in game two of the preseason but first we're gonna roll through these donations and then we'll talk about all the news including dontrelle inman german james injury the and then we'll cover that game so first off a special thank you to antonio stevens another big. Thank you to michael flora's who says great job guys on the podcast podcast. Hopefully this helps the beer fund wish i could do more next up is william boylston. He says beers on me. Get well soon. Derwin couldn't be more true absolutely early and finally preston walker who says here's to another nail biting season and he actually asked the question he says question for you guys after preseason game into what are you more worried about and less worried about than before. The preseason started okay. We'll go back and forth on this so we can start with more worried about and i'm not even sure this. This is possible but i'm more worried about the offensive line than i even thought was even remotely possible. It was just a shit show in game two. It wasn't good in game one and i know they're talking a lot of these guys and they're excited about the five they have but we talked about in the off season. There are russell kun injury away from a disaster astor and we're kind of seeing it now in the preseason so i'm more worried about this offensive line than any group really yeah. The offensive line has to be concerning. We're going to get into it more indepth <hes> when we get indoors storylines here in a few minutes but <hes> i mean the tackles are terrible. I am i'll expand on this a little bit later in my opinion. I think what we're starting to see is. I think they're starting to become targets. <hes> i think officials are expecting to see offensive linemen run right by offensive lineman defensive lineman right by these guys and create pressure and when they actually get their hands on somebody and actually make a good block getting called for holding because nobody expects actually do their job so i think that's a little concerning <hes> and there's you know they're having issues with pass protection picking up blitzes <hes> they're missing blocks running running game on third and fourth in short <hes>. There's all kinds of issues. It just seemed like guys don't know their assignments are uncomfortable with their assignments or can't carry their assignments out and and it's it's scary right now and i'll add the special teams hasn't been all that great either during the preseason <hes> kind of a group. That was a little bit exciting last year. I got some good returns earns from desert king but i know they got the t._d. In new orleans or against new orleans but this special teams man with all these penalties. It's like you expect them to get one each time. The balls pundit or kicked off and it's just been sloppy through two games so they've been horrendous so maybe close second special teams yeah you know i i think i think a lot of that also has to do with you know. They're obviously cycling a lot of rookies. The undrafted free agents through the special teams right now even with the first team..

"I think that when their offense works functionally ineffectively in all its dimensions. And he drops back and is relatively secure in the pocket that he throws a beautiful ball. He's an easy thrower. He's a comfortable thrower his good arm for the most part. He's an accurate thrower. He lost some of his accuracy down the stretch. But when he's a comfortable player within the context of a multi dimensional offense. He's very pretty to watch the ball comes out. Really? Well, that's basically talking about Tom Brady when Tom Brady is comfortable within the structure of New England's offense. Tom Brady is beautiful to watch. When Tom Brady is not comfortable in Tom Brady's getting pressure. He can be very Radic. And Tom Brady's not as much fun to watch. He is Brady and Goth. They have very smart head coaches when they're comfortable in the pocket. They are beautiful. Throwers of the football Cosell just describe Brady and don't forget Brady and his first couple years in this league. Don't forget this had a great defense Goff has a great running game. They relied on great coaching and a great element be on themselves. Coming up next Dontrelle Inman wide receiver board of the colts. "This is a very interesting slate because I mean, you can play Mahomes you can play breathes. You can play luck, you know, draftkings made the the pricing very flexible for most of these game. So I I look at this. As a case where you know, you have your pick of. Cert- match, and it just comes down to how you really feel about go about certain things because at the end of the day. I feel as though, you know, word store for quite a bit of action today and points, given the defenses we're going to see in this colts cheese match up. So I think that really gonna like outta points breakout in those games will shape how the rest of the slates gonna go so pay to the first game because that's going to have a lot of impact on the rest of the F S late for my opinion, you know, again, Kelsey and the Bron should be in grape positions. I liked Dontrelle Inman on the colts, Chester Rogers possibility. Just so you save up money from actually using t y Hilton with e Brahm, I think it's either or it's either TY is going to get. Those touch outs or it's going to be Brown but Lux been targeting e Brown more in the red zone TY. So I I think that's better play Hines is an interesting play from a draft kings perspective and then over in the Dallas LA game. You know, Michael Gallup's in a nice G P play. If you if you do in cash lineups, then you could look at Robert woods on the. On the Rams or you could look at Amari Cooper. But I do think for P purposes Galp has the chance of a break the slate open just because Dax gonna get plenty of opportunities throw down the field. So I just feel as though realistically that's where you're going to make your money this week. Is downfield throws come from deck Prescott. So we're gonna see how it plays out though. Because it really is going to be an interesting slate this weekend. So I'm excited to see how these games play out because you know, it is a very much a wide open wide wide open slate today play possibilities where you can go. But I'm really curious to see how this all shapes up. So that's going to do for the show just but I am very excited. Plus, I'll get to talk a little. More about the NFL coaching hires. And also the latest and greatest going on in the NBA puzzle. Get some baseball talk in later on. So that's all for now. But have a good one folks and best of luck today..

"Dan, Lobski joins a cap each. And every week. Our lobs is also on ESPN he's been a backup quarterback. So he knows what it's like to come in and play for the starter. And he said the bears can win with Ed chase. Daniel a quarterback. You better have weapons on offense nowadays in the NFL because you can still yes. To drop off at the quarterback spot. But you still have to line up in defend against the weapons that the bears. Have you still have to you know, 'cause people the natural things. Well, the lines are just stack the box enforced tastes Daniel to beat them. But that's not the case anymore. That's not the case in the NFL anymore because coaches are too smart. And that now. And he's going to go. Well, that's fine. I'm going to then dispersed. I buy weapons that a little bit more of a spread out situation. You the bucks fine for five guy. Whether it's Miller or Gabriel or Burton. My number five guy is going to be your number five guy more often than not, you know, make it easier on my quarterback. And so if you guys want to commit to stopping the run and thinking, I don't have a plan for that go. Go ahead. I just don't believe that the lions defensively. How this guy really a guy that can match up. And so it certainly is the, you know, the the theory of oh, you know, they're still shutdown Howard and the shutdown Cohen and baked Daniel beat them. But it's it make the Chicago Bears v weapon beat them. And that's where the the bears and the teams teams that are built this way with with really good players. That's where they have a distinct advantage where comparison to ten fifteen years ago. It was like, oh, yeah. You know, if you shut down our number one guy make a speech, you can't Dan Orlovsky with I cap earlier in the week talking about it. This is where he's a bloviating on the genius playing quarterback you need to fourth and fifth baby. That's too late. If you the third reading that progression. If he if the if the guy covering him ain't as good as him got something like the nickel offense that slot receiver. Well that fifty five. Callahan's play. Right. He's better than that. Guys. Soi? Our defense is good. Right. Do you understand? Sure. But the fourth and fifth guy if they're good. Well, they gotta they gotta make planning to cover them to which leaves the first three. The first three available space was he here's the biggest thing that the bears have going for them this year that they did have in the years past they have weapons last year you and I sat here talking about Dontrelle Inman, Ken KENDALL Wright know, what weapon means to me run after catch. They call it yak. All right. A weapon can catch the ball. Make somebody miss and there is a big play big play guys days weapon and the bears have them in Anthony Miller Taylor. Gabriel in Allen Robinson. Dave goes guys to call it. Hey, don't throw the ball enough to Howard. No, they did they do to a once the other day in the Minnesota where they can they can throw it to a more. They started the year off on it. They kind of stopped a little bit. Yeah. They think well he's are running between the tackles guy. Why he gets stacked up on place. Whatever happened to the tall, sir. The sweeper. I know you you gotta program. And this is what you do. It it kind of reminds me of Al Davis is ground and pound. And then go from right when they come up to inbetween the holes, then go vertical. Cliff branch you're getting if they're all in the box. And you swing that run. It's the running with Roger Craig you swing that guy the back. He's an open space baby with one guy if he makes him miss..
