It's it's a beautiful is to be doing there in the middle of the night. It's a pretty light you wouldn't think yet but it's a pretty bright late at night so it can be tough to get star voters there at night okay. You know a couple of hours before sunrise to get sunrise pictures and yeah it's a. It's a beautiful spot it is it is. I was thinking of it as peaceful. I've been there at sunset. I've been there in the snow after a snowstorm which was beautiful so be talking about that in a few minutes but first has anything happened on this date and lighthouse history michelle. Yes something. Very important happened on november. Seventh seventeen sixty one new london harbor late in connecticut. The fourth lighthouse in the american colonies was lighted for the first time. New Orleans' $15 Billion Levee Held. But Another Problem Looms

I am in my parents house in uptown new orleans they've evacuated and we're trying to figure out right now whether like tens of thousands of people whether it's going to be okay for them to come back without electricity. It's just really really a slog here. It looks pretty dark there. Do you have power. So how are you. You're just talking to us because you have a lot of chargers for your cell phone or something. Yeah exactly run off a batteries and it's just becomes this this constant kind of juggling active running stuff off your car charging batteries lying in the in the tennessee williams sense on the kindness of strangers. And who are some of the people you've been and talking to well. After the storm. I kind of set out and visited a few parts of the city to see how people you have a hard time getting by on a sunny day or doing so one of the places i headed to was new orleans. East which is a low lying very flood-prone part of the city. There is a apartment complex in new orleans. East called the willows which was badly damaged in hurricane katrina. It's been fixed up and a lot of working class. People were living there. Hey what's your name. My name's andrew. How do you spell dontrelle deal including dontrelle anderson. What do you do for a living right. Now i'm here to the ball in street to street a real and i work around the bond. Okay now. also he's a guy his thirty s. He was on a bicycle. His car's in the shop and he was trying to think creatively about how to think his way out of a place. That was incredibly hot. An incredibly unpleasant like right. Now i'm coverlet riding around. So you'd want it to get out of town but you couldn't because you had slowly on the time i don't have leaks on the ties but is like i know i mean i could've went to ban rules here here now. The don drill many people in the city of new orleans faces is Pretty basic and also pretty tragic done drills case It was a question of having access to a car that could get him out of this kind of this zone of suffering.

Oh, Oh, yeah, you're in trouble for that, Uh, I would like to do that. If you had a problem with long road trips is Going is great. Coming home is terrible. But if you would do did like the major league baseball one where I have a friend that's actually done that, and they they do it over an entire summer. And they you know, they map it out. They do. I mean, that would be cool because it's like, you know, I'm going to this one. I'm going to this one. I'm going to this one. I mean, obviously be more excited for some than others. But That's something that and I tell my son this at 17 like you have to do these things when you're young, because once you get a family, you know, wife or something you go there and you say, Hey, you gotta take care of the kids for next 30 days. I'm doing an MLB stadium tour. They go and no Yeah, divorce papers. I'm spending all our money on food at these ballparks to not happening, not happening. Like Oh, yeah, I'm going to ballparks. It's different because I think when you go, you go to an NBA arena and another pretty much all the same. You go to an NFL stadium. Some are better than others. But you're a ballpark like a baseball ball park. We're all different, and it was the whole reason we were talking to. You're going to be in ST Louis on Friday with Murph and Mac, you know a different food, different atmosphere, their place differently. There's no place Like Oracle, Living P and C. Being on the water is awesome. Even if you hate the Dodgers San Gabriel Mountains right there you just all these different things. There's all these different Play outside of Oakland, which is like come on, please. But the rest of it, It's just like you go to a park and like, Wow, maybe Tampa's that way, too, But, I mean, I'd say that out of all the ballparks, probably 20. I'm going to Colorado is cool. Seattle's got an underrated ballpark. I like San Diego Petco, where it's located Wrigley and and, uh, in Fenway or in the middle. It's like they got dropped in the middle of neighborhoods. I mean, it's cool. It would be cool well, and what's unique about that with baseball is you never hear anybody with you. I'm gonna hit every arena for the NBA doesn't work. Like you might want to get out to the garden or something like that. You might want to get out to, you know, brand new stadiums of brand new arenas. Things like that, But even with football, and I wonder why this is just because of the romance of the game of baseball. Is it because every stadium has its own quirks that the field doesn't have to be the same dimensions that you get to add your own. You know, you talk about Milwaukee. You get the big There's a big slide out there. You get the Coke bottle in San Francisco with the glove. You talked about the bridge and And the and the Allegheny and in Pittsburgh to so many different elements to all these different ballparks, But you get to a football stadium like Yeah, there's the classic ones. There's Lambo there Soldier Field. I'm sure there are ones that have a lot of history, where it would be cool to visit them. But it doesn't have the same romance and unique feeling. And also, I guess it would be Be pretty impossible to hit every NFL stadium this season like I don't think you can do that, just based on how many teams there are and how they're all playing at the same time, every single Sunday So the romance of of baseball and the unique elements of these ballparks, I think is what It plays a role. I'm excited to see ST Louis, but I think I'm more excited about the, uh They're like eating and drinking all around the ballpark, and I am about the ballpark itself, because it's sort of new, you know. Well, you see, that's that's the thing to me is my two favorite parks outside of Oracle, just cause I think the the atmosphere the being on the water. I just think everything around. It is so cool, but I love old school. And if you go to Wrigley, you gotta go there early. You gotta go there like 10 o'clock and you got to hit the cubby bear in Murphy's bleachers, and you got to walk all around it and the same thing in Boston. You got to hit everything around it because it's the atmosphere. It's talking to the fans. It's taken it all in and then when you go to the park, it's awesome. At the end of the day. You're watching a baseball game. Now it's cool in the I V and it's really, really cool. But like you said, the thing that I think is going to be fun for you on Friday in ST Louis, is this It's a that is a baseball town and in the Giants are really, really good. So there's gonna be a lot of buzz. It's going to be a full ballpark. You're going to check out all the different food just it's everything around it, and that's what makes it different. I love tailgating in NFL stadiums. Um, but there's you know, you go to Kansas City. You go to Seattle a little bit louder. But there's a baseball is totally different in basketball. I just It's not that I don't like it. I do. But it's an indoor arena and think about it like a concert. You know anything outdoor 100 times at 100. I'm taking an outdoor concert over an indoor concert. Just that's just how it is. How many of the stadiums have you been to? How many have you seen? Baseball ballpark was I think I've seen about 20 of the ballparks. There's a couple I would love to see. And I haven't I think I've seen most of them. I'd like to see Minnesota I've heard is really cool Target field. I haven't been there. I saw both in New York, and then they tore that ass down. Now I gotta go again. The one thing you know what in Yankee I got to go back one thing I was really angry about in 94 when they had the strike. I had tickets to a Yankees game at the old stadium and was the first time I've gone and I think it was I was going on August 12 in this in the store. Started on August 13th and it was just like, Oh, you gotta be kidding me, so I never saw a game in an old Yankee stadium. So I saw the bomber was sort of cool. I was out in New York for maybe two or three weeks. My dad was doing something off Broadway there in 2000 and six or summer before my senior year of high school. We went out and we went to like it was it was over the All Star break, And I remember that because it was the All Star break. We weren't going to get a chance to see the Yankees play a game. We did get out to see the Mets play a game at Shea. Jose Lima started for the Mets never seen a home pitcher get booed off his own mound louder than Jose Lima. Dude, he gave up a Grand Slam two Dontrelle Willis, and the game was crazy. Unbelievable. The one game I sashayed Dontrell hit a Grand slam and then the The cool thing about it was we took a tour of Yankee Stadium instead of getting to see a ballgame there because they like open the second half.

He wasn't really asked to pitch almost all down the stretch run in one thousand nineteen while he was leading. Mlb and pretty much every important hitting category. So i wanna pose to you. The questions that brian raised. Which is is this going to be sustainable for otani going forward. Is it fair for the angels to leaned so heavily on him as both an mvp level batter and all star level pitcher at the same time or should we just sit back and enjoy the otani show while we can't. I don't think it's sustainable to be honest. Just the nature of injuries and it just doesn't it. I mean look. I'm part of me is like sort of surprise it hasn't happened earlier I know we've had good hitting pitchers. We've had mike hamptons and you know dontrelle willows. Carlson crumbs of the widow ground is what three forty batting average. But it's more of a slap hitter. But you know because often you watch any like sort of grade school baseball game or ice even ice school i think this stilts rooted best hitters moat more often than not that the pitcher because that's just generally where they put the best athletes So i'm sort of a little surprise. It hasn't quite happened You know in between ruthin otani. But i also worry that it's just you know the amount of stress the kitschy puts on your body that at a certain point they're gonna realize. Are we jeopardizing our best hitter to preserve them to pitch once every five days That the angels might have to make a tough decision. you know. it's kinda like a little. Bit reminds me a bo jackson where it was so fun for a little while there but then i think when we look back on bo jackson like well that guy you know i mean i know the hip injury was kind of fluky but maybe just been one of the best running backs of all time. Yeah i You know i. It's it's he's it's interesting because there are more. It seems like there are more of these guys who who are who could be two way. Who could be pitchers and hitters and yet that's that's always intention in tension with the nature of pitching to be so extreme and the the need for specialization. at least the need thus far for specialization. until you do wonder if like otani success.

It was a massive achievement. It's it's what you're forever known for both positive and negative in terms of the public eye. But i understand why. That's number one i if i could press a button and go back to be nineteen years old and going back to pro player stadium. I would. i'm sure that drives you crazy. But i just wanna get the skin seared off my body in the in the fish tank watching dontrelle willis take on randy johnson. Those were the best years of experiencing baseball. And i go to marlins park. I don't feel a connection to this team. They change their colors all too often. I have no emotional connection to them. They might as well be located in tacoma washington for all i care. It's it's not the same team for me. I have lost all that emotional connection. It's not just the building. It's everything that team has done. So here's what i would like to do before we talk about movies. I really would like you to try to get that emotional connection back because that is the most upsetting thing that has been said to me in all the shows we've done together for you to not have an emotional connection with your home baseball team and for me to have any factor in that reality. That really does make my stomach turn. You have an opportunity with your daughter to have that connection with your wife to go to a game and have a.

"I thought it was charleston's day will that's kind of questions like is. Is it just that you know because you couldn't play baseball. You had to figure something else out. Yeah actually. I wanted to be the first. Mlb baseball player ever like and i stopped growing. I'm still five nothing and apparently you have to like hit our baseball's like f that noise. No thank you. So i love talking. I love writing. I remember when i went that day that we got back from the coliseum. I was like having to cover this team. And he and. I was only twelve but he knew i was great with words and whether it was speaking them or getting myself out of trouble or writing writing great Stories and stuff like that and listening. I was such a good listener. Which is so weird to say for a twelve year. Old girl I just pretended like i. Didn't you know as a typical talk girl And i i thought you know. I kept playing kept playing and i thought well you know what i am. Not as good as they used to be in the switch to softball. I played tournament teams. I kind of had this resurgence. 'cause you remember i had to learn softball. After playing baseball. I basically had to learn new spore. Yes gymnast for and you should tell the high school coach that that i tried to try out for. He doesn't believe that but here we are. He sees me on tv. He knows and so. That was kind of resurgence for me. And i just remembered as being such an under heard about the game and thinking like i just wanna talk to people about this and i just remember like kind of making my way on social media just like being curious like i would just ask dallas brayden questions are i just ask dontrelle willis questions or michael. Moore's questions 'cause. I was genuinely curious kind of this girl who grew up around a baseball field. That was no different than what these guys did right. They just kept playing which is kind of weird to really think about. And that's kind of how it was born. I thought well you know. What if i'm not going to be able to play the actual game and especially can be able to go pro softball. I need to figure this. Own thing out. And this this out. And i was thinking like if i already had already just different growing up. I was always the girl on the boys team. I was always you know kind of the first person. They're the last when left. Like why can't i just keep going especially growing up. I wanted to be like all the other girls where they are so pretty in like they were cheerleaders and they. Were you know dating the football quarterback and all this other stuff. And i was like that's great but like why am i trying to be like them so once i started embracing just too i was. I thought well if i can create this own thing on my own like why. why not. that's kind of where ultimately was born. I just wanted to create content. And show what i was talking to in like active the guy which just having a conversation with the player. And it'll end up on tv here and will end up on print and stuff like that so it was just about kind of creating my own voice.
