"Part two. Whose turn is it to go tonight? We keep switching spots. It was keep stirring tonight. All right. All right, John, Do you have a cake pick for us? Well, the the kite pick. Uh, I'm gonna I'm going with Donovan Solano. Yeah, because He's playing really well in the field right now and And then he got that bunt down, and it was just so cool. They had two runs home already. They wanted to get that guy home he had. It was set up beautifully. There's speed everywhere at third at it first. And he gets it done right now. He just lays down this bunt like like nothing to get the R B. And, uh, Slater got a great jump down the line. The secondary later it was like a clinic on how to do that. Safety squeeze, so And now it's an 11 8 game and because it 10 to 8, they already have the possible time run coming up. First batter up is the tying run. But that runner already at second base, so That was a big run to get, and he just very calmly and coolly executed that play. And, uh and I kept thinking he's a really good butter, isn't he? I was having a hard time remembering the last time I saw him, But But now I know I could say break confident. He's a very good mothers. Yeah, he is. Solano's My guy. That was perfect. Good pick. He's your guy or guys Look at this guy. Yeah, I would never have picked a Solano. No way. Okay. Pick a second baseman, always a good default. All right, John, You want to make your own pick? Okay, uh, for me. I'm going with, um Buster Posey. Because sometimes in these these games You get that runner at second base. And you gotta you gotta bring him home. And when you're the visiting team, that's not all you gotta do. Just getting the one run doesn't even seem like that Big a deal because the other team is going to get the same thing. We all know that. So Buster not only got the guy home, he got a double, putting himself in scoring position. And then He tagged him now I don't know what his legs felt like. By that time We had a four hour game going here. He's been behind the plate all that time after the flight and the whole the whole bit and, uh And he still tagged up and went to third base. Good base running play good baserunning instincts. And and then he got home on the Duggars single easily So I just thought a great night for buster all the way around. And and still, in spite of all the fatigue and whatnot and the star he's had to be He's still blocking balls and, uh, calling pitches and get these guys. Uh, through these tough innings in in the you know, late at night in in there, so The Buster is I'm going with Buster Posey. Good pick. It's a great pick. I think if you went back to that, that walk in the fifth inning to I I wonder how many right handed hitters in the game could have laid off that slider? I think that kid through the slider that he 100% wanted to throw to Buster and that was a great day. I was filthy, dirty and Then he set up the Grand Slam. So another reason why Buster was high school. Yeah, that's that's good. I sneaky, slow. He's done all those good. There's a lot of other reasons I would think of their go with Buster Heart. Good pick. Okay, I'll go. Uh, well, I mean, I want to take One of the pictures because I do. We talked about him already. But I It's so great to have Tony Watson back and the point we already made about Why the Giants make that trade tonight. We saw why they made that trade. He's going to help this team big time over these last two months, and when the Giants are playing in the playoffs, he's going to help him in the playoffs, too. He's just He's been through these wars so many times he's made so many big pitches. He doesn't get rattled the moments never too big for him. Tony Watson. A good ad. Good. Add good pick he's even been through. As a Dodger. Yes. Yeah, that's true. That's true. We don't like to talk about that. But now it's illegal for us to pick him up. That's true. We could pick up. That's good. Alright, Good pick. That's my guy. All right. All right. Well, then I'm going to go with Alex Dickerson. Um, you know, it's just good to see him succeed. He's been granted so hard. And put a lot of pressure on on himself. Way too much pressure on himself. And tonight he just sort of Just free up and had great at bats and you know in a grand slam was fantastic with the triple was entertaining. So good for him, Alex Dickerson, and by the way, we have another text coming in here from Cape. He has another pick, he says. For my second pick, I've taken Wilbur Flores. Mhm Uh oh. D c Wilmer Flores It's just locked up. Dan Dennett and, uh, do it now Don't want homemade was gonna Hey. All right. I like it. Uh, G d c Good. Try. Good. Try Cape. You got him? He has Got to get the electricians in here. All right. Keep your hot tonight. Yeah. What's on deck sponsored by your California four dealers and Wilmer did. That was a big home run that he hit. Uh Tomorrow. John, are you talked about Buster digging deep in a long game? I think, Buster, probably, and it's too bad because it's going to take away its Cueto against Bumgarner tomorrow. And I would have loved to have seen Posey against Bumgarner just for entertainment purposes, But I think Buster earned a day off likely. Well, we'll just have to save that confrontation for when the D backs come to San Francisco, and they will be coming so I hope we get to see it, then. Yeah. And and Cueto pitched really well, his last time out. In a ballpark where he's usually done well. Phoenix has usually been pretty good to Johnny Cueto. So let's see if he can duplicate that. He's kind of the adrenaline guy on this team. I mean, he's he's pitch better. The big crowds the big, you know, the And and so I bet it will be a challenge for Johnny tomorrow because it's not going to be a big crowd. It won't be a huge adrenaline game. No, no, I think you're gonna crowd pretty much like what you got tonight, but a lot of Giants fans will be there. As we saw tonight, a lot of Cubs fans to come in to see Kris Bryant. Yeah, huge ovation for Bryant when he came up for his first and bad, fantastic So tomorrow, 6 40 Cueto against Bumgarner Heck of a matchup in Game two of the series. What's on deck? Yeah..

"He can't beat anybody off the dribble but he doesn't really need to especially on this team where their entire kind of offensive scheme is predicated around donovan. Mitchell creating an easy advantage and just being able to plug and play guys who will defend and make spot of threes around him. So i like that fit. Unfortunately rookies are almost always bad and jerry butler has health concerns so i wonder if they take it slow with him. I don't i don't know what they're going to do in terms of kind of managing that if it's even still problem i don't have enough information but Whether he plays the entire season or not. I don't think relying on a rookie is good process. In general i'm sure they're probably not But the favors trade getting off. That contract is really where things start to kind of become concerning because that was really really bad process and others have talked about this The past couple of days this kind of recurring theme of like charlotte paying to get off of detroit paying to get off of Plumlee and then Utah paying eat off of favors all these teams that signed biggs to like you know. Eight to twelve million dollar. A year deals last. Season have already regretted it. And this is not even like a super inspiring free agent class and still teams are like chomping at the bit to pay first round. Picks to get off these bigs. So i think there's a recurring theme here and like frankly. The jazz are far enough along in their process of trying to contend and solidified enough in what they're rosser looks like more or less in the sense that i think it's difficult for them to make a deal where they get equal value back that you know making those kinds of mistakes is crippling. And we'll see you know what they do they. They basically used that space. As far as i can tell To to conley and i think that's critical. I think they really needed to keep conley but like you said like i don't know how they fill the rest of this rauscher out in a way that makes things a little bit more holistic in terms of the construction the the balance between offense and defense because as we saw last year. Like a court of mike donovan. Mitchell is not enough to contain at the point of attack anymore. Conley getting older donovan. Mitchell is not a good defender especially a point of attack and so they still don't really have a whole lot there in terms of kind of Preventing the shell from breaking. They're still going to rely heavily on gobert and Royce o.'neil basically and. I just don't know how that looks like essentially. This is the same team minus favors plus butler so far And it wasn't enough last year and Frankly last year was probably the to win in terms of the amount of uncertainty..

"Really breaks my heart. Really does. Lonzo ball, by the way, going to Chicago to that's gonna be fun. You got Caruso and you got Lonzo Ball with Chicago was Zach Lavine as well. Here's one problem. This doesn't seem all that good for Kobe White, right? Our guy Kobe White. Who? I of course, once informed in that Cam Johnson was whatever the pick was in the draft. He was like, Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow, bro. That's a viral clip that is still used today. But this does not seem all that good for Kobe White. Not that I'm a bull's insider, but hey, God! Lonzo ball! They get Caruso. It's going to happen here to Kobe White. You got a crowded backcourt to begin with Zach Lavine there. Remember. They also traded for the big man. Vucevic's, too Got Billy Donovan there that team that made the playoffs this year. Polls make the playoffs. They better in that future day better, especially when you have 1/10 and 11th seed That could have a possibility of making the playoffs. If you end up winning the whole plan, and all that. They better man. That team was some remember. Not that anyone thought they were gonna do much, but that team right at the trade deadline when you got and you get goose ceviche. "His injury toward the end of the season in the playoffs was a big big deal to them. He did pair well with donovan mitchell. They had to bring them back. They had no choice now. The interesting thing is. I don't have my laptop and free. I'm stressed out my laptop down. I think they're like twelve or thirteen million over the projected tax. No few other there may be some other moves for them to make you. Because i don't know if they want to pay that much maybe they do. I don't know ramona. Look we know how close the jazz have come in the last play offs. How close they felt that they were and they still feel especially donovan. Mitchell are contender in the west. People aren't giving them enough credit. Going into this next season. You know. And i i think when you look at the jazz overall look how much of a jump they made from the year before this year just by staying together just by learned just by saying okay. We're running back with another year under our belt and we're just going to be better and last year. I think you can reasonably look at the way. They finish against the clippers and say they got hurt in that series and i There are things that they can do and they probably should do to to improve that team eventually but it doesn't all have to be right now and there is something to be said for stability and running it back. Yeah absolutely now. Of course the judge not the only team wheeling and dealing right now. It's time for the crank.

"Think they had no choice to be honest when you look at the market but you look at his production as well last season right. This is a guy that was hesitant and then go to utah at first. And then i they struggled to make your work and all of a sudden last year i thought he did a tremendous job of coming in playing this role playing alongside donovan mitchell and he just had a bad look by getting hurt but i think this is a good deal for the utah jazz bringing now back they sit. They basically tell them that they're going to run it back and try to hope that they stay healthy because the utah jazz healthy still dangerous team in the league and in the western conference. "Men's Olympic basketball is up to eat. Well, um, it didn't start off well over the weekend, they had their first exhibition game against Nigeria in they lost What? 92 87. Team USA goes down, So we got that going for us. Wait a minute. Isn't Kevin Durant on that team? The guy that carry the Brooklyn Nets on his back. Of course. Kevin Durant. Bradley Beal Bam out of bio. Draymond Green Game. Dollar is on their Jayson Tatum. They've got a pretty good lineup. So they lost to Nigeria. Wait a minute. There's some Nigerian players who are actually NBA players. Right there are and there are a few NBA players missing from that team that are still playing in the finals. No Djourou HOLIDAY. No Chris Middleton know Devin Booker. But the Nigerian squad does have three guys from the Miami Heat roster. Also one of the Sacramento Kings, a guy for the Minnesota Timberwolves and one of Donovan Mitchell's teammates with the Utah Jazz. Good for them. Congratulations, Nigeria. I think they taught a valuable lesson to our Guys on USA team that always thinks it's going to just steamroll everybody. I hope so. Because the last time the U. S, the U. S men's national team lost an exhibition game. They finished seventh in the feeble World Cup just a couple of years ago, so Hopefully they right the ship and we don't have one of those performances in the Olympics.

"Right into a charlie. This is this is what we like to do. This is only like to think about. This is what we're looking forward to this summer after that. Big nations league victory from the us. Mnt the gold cup. We knew that this was not going to be the same roster. That went out competed oakley one that nation's league tournament gregg berhalter has been saying it for a long time. We're gonna have to separate groups. There might be a little bit of overlap and likely that overlap is gonna come from mls players because it is the summer and you've got transfer window open you've got guys going into preseason camps trying to earn their way like for instance. He said brian reynolds not here because joe's marino doesn't generally play younger players so they want brian reynolds to beat at roma from the jump with the new manager to make sure he has a chance to get into the team otherwise he's going to be working From behind a couple other names in that scenario where cameron carter vickers gotta figure his cup situation. Eric palmer brown to figure out his cup situation. And greg said admitted our centre-back cool is a little bit light. So here is the roster for those of you who haven't seen it goalkeepers matt turner the likely starter. Funny story there. We'll get to that shawn johnson. What are you thinking right now on this thursday morning for me. I'm thinking there's not any anyone that i'm particularly surprised about. That's one too. I think this group is is has enough quality to win now if mexico brings. They're a team. That's going to be challenged in especially with mexico hungary to avenge that nation's league loss.

"He came back different different blue voice. I'm that was doing like picking people apart. You know you seem that was. I think that was the heisman you like. That was the you were here up and down the field jumping over people doing all these different things. He had campus like louisville's usually all basketball teams like bashful schools on us and he was bigger than us like he was. He was that guy. I will say something about lamar like people consistently talked trash about him and all that and talk say he's not this he's not that couldn't be more humble. Couldn't be more well rounded. You know what i mean like. you wouldn't know. He's lamar jackson conversation. I think it's pretty dope. Because the amount of stuff that was thrown his way that he had navigate as a college student. I can only imagine you know what i'm saying. Like he handled it. Well still handled it will and prostate. Michelle delta lamar. So when you knew. They're like yeah man. It's time for me to go. See what i can do. There is none else in college. That i can do. I wanna know. Go to the next level. Honestly i left to go to work out in la Pay for everything. Because i didn't know. If i wanted to relieve enough i was gonna be good enough to make it and then i worked out and see and paul george two separate conversations Cps brother cj so three separate conversations. I've my agent enough. He has shout. Cj to maybe not great cj. The trainer at the time. Who worked for the agency was telling me i was good enough. And you know we're going up those aged tournaments everybody's so you agents only want your money day looking at what's best for you so at the time. I told my agent this all the time like he was like you re a first round. pick I listen roll like i'll have this do like i don't know if he telling me the truth or not. So then. i had a conversation with those three About two weeks into my trip. And i was like she would stay saying not gonna lie. You know what i mean like. They clearly they must see some and from that point on called the coach that looked. This is what i'm about to Somebody go ahead make that and continue. I did like fourteen. Fifteen different workouts. That's how it came about us. Like maybe massey. The model he was special. He was tied three. He has steak dinners Down ahead nice. Little big man. You've seen the people that some people that kind of staying there until the second round. I was that man. Go in to start the day. I thought i was going to be going to the hornets. Lags i was like she right. I'm going eleven going charlotte wearing jordan. Like that's what i was thinking like. I'm thinking everything has to be like. I just the plan it be in charlotte. It's a two hour flight from the crib. Mom dad this will be going to do this. We get there and then they pick no league mom so now i'm stuck. I'm like ooh like. I might be going to detroit. I didn't miss they They pick I didn't work out for denver. But i had no a trade on. Also they picked me. I was happy. But i was like name i. I'm trying to think of all the guards they have got mall. They got gary harris they got leaked beasley to got this five guards and then you got me as i'm walking down. I think it was maria taylor. She was like you've got traded. And you see. I don't know if you if you ever see the video like i'm smiling like a little extra because i'm like man like i wanted to go utah. It was great to me like there was cruel like i love the city. The people were great so that man. I'm happy to go there and Home how was it for you when you you went utah. I didn't know how that would impact. I looked at myself as like a guard. And you know there were still people in front of me. Had signed to gordon left. We had signed ricky rubio. We have rodney hood right Joe johnson was there so they still have some pieces from the team that had just zero played in the second round the before. So mike tramp. Finding me cracked rotation negate lagging six rebounds eight points. That's the goal. Let me try and finally that. That was my thought presses. Get to the first half of the season. "Mitchell thing is weird. I do think that we all kind of glossed over that but also today. Apparently he's upset that the team held him out this. Espn story is like they're gonna get dwayne wade in there to smooth it over was not expecting dwayne. Wade's named pop up this early in a playoff series and twenty twenty one. It's i i think he's going to be fine. I think the reason none of us were concerned about because the jazz at every reason to be overly cautious a with a number one seed. Why bring him back like you said during this weird regular season etc. I don't know that i'm going to going to pick the grizzlies. I think the obvious thing we can talk about from game one is will. The jazz missed that many threes again in in this series or is there something we said about. Some people never really had confidence in their shooters and said wait until the playoffs when teams are trying a little bit harder or just ignoring certain guys

"When did adhd. I come on your radar. And i love that. We're talking about. Adhd and not combining adhd with add. Because i think a lot of times they get lumped together. And i think it's important to to talk about the differences in fact maybe we could. We could start there with some of the differences between. Add adhd add is actually a term that is no longer being used In the dsm or anything it's adhd with hyperactivity or without arm so adhd or add was formerly known as is now called adhd without hyperactivity which is a mouthful. But i didn't. I didn't use to say no that either 'cause i definitely have people in my life. Who had been diagnosed with. Add and so. It's just one of the many. Jose tidbits that i have been learning because this is like a process for me to of self-discovery 'cause i don't have. I love psych in high school in college but My training is a visual communication design. So i do really get to learn so much myself. And about your. adhd general. But i can that was like a little side tangent. But like i can talk about the differences between the two kind of types if that might be useful so our and then combined type which is what i have and so adhd with hyperactivity not just has hyperactivity which can look different. Depending on the person for boys it might be a little mar- you know obvious which is why guys tend to get diagnosed younger because they might be the kid running over the place and climbing on stuff at the rest to climb on constantly fidgeting sort of thing and girls get missed a lot who might even have hyperactive type like because we tend to be much more. Chatty we're like very chatty distracting other people with like wanting to talk constantly fidgeting with our hair and it's it's a little more subtle ways that you wouldn't necessarily think of hyperactivity

"So tony. Let's start this story during last year's playoffs done mitchell and jamal murray have this epic battle in the nba. Bubble shot clock down to four. Mitchell has millsaps. Automobile three took three and returns the staredown ton of matchel clutch. Three pointer for the jazz. Eventually mitchell jazz fall in dramatic fashion a game. Seven two seconds ago for the winter. Tell us about donovan. Mitchell after that loss of known donovan. Pretty well in the four years. He's been with the johnson. I don't think i've seen him data emotional in the post game. There's so many things. I just feel like we could did and we didn't and i think that's just where the hurt really comes because quite frankly i don't i give them credit but i feel like we kind of eased off the gas. You have to remember the jazz at a be in the second half of game five which was supposed to be oppose out game for them to do more and this won't happen again is extremely down and he just basically said. We're not losing in the first round of the playoffs anymore. This ain't the end. This ain't this is just the beginning man. This is just the just the beginning. And i'm ready to go. Who begin right now and so once. The cameras were gone and donovan. Mitchell was back home in utah. How how did he spend. This off. season is funny. Because i talked to somebody close to donovan mitchell about this a couple of weeks ago and one thing he said was donovan was on the phone with people like literally. You know two or three days after the season Sam less workout. You know the thing about donovan. He's a guy that goes out and he works on his craft resolutely. And you know. I think that not only. Did he work on his craft during the offseason but after that the rest of the jazz from person one person fifteen worked on their craft under all season as well. Well let's bring it forward to this year. How did mitchell in the jazz start off. The current season they started off on four and with two really bad losses unforced turnover passing out an equal. Don't runaway league beasley. They lost the minnesota timberwolves at home. In the second game of the season they will blown out and outclassed in brooklyn nets team did james harden because they hadn't traded for them and they didn't have durant is everywhere. Count it at one but rudy rudy. Did show back up on the screen and brooklyn's play it with alan at the energy so basically re irving at a bunch of role players that blasted the jazz in new york. You know jazz nation on the fan base was kind of going crazy. The jazz a couple of games where they look like world-beater. They had a couple of games where they look really back. And tony. I wanted to ask you about this moment. That happened on live television a few weeks ago. That was really widely discussed. It started at halftime of jazz. Pelicans game when the tnt broadcast crew was discussing the game. My question to the panel. Donovan mitchell is that the point of superstardom where he can take you there. Or he's still all star status. He needs to be so go. Third option really. Yes yeah i feel like it. No talent to do it. He's a great score. Grew there but if he's not score. What else can you do. And when the game ended shack starts interviewing donovan mitchell. Who's still on the court right after the jazz victory. Yeah and he says. I said tonight. That you are one of my favorite players. But you don't have what it takes to get to the next level as central purpose on wednesday to hear what you have to say about that. I that's it i mean. What were your thoughts when you first saw that exchange so the irony of the whole thing is that the actual conversation was fair. That part of the conversation that happened at halftime that part was fair. We know the donovan. Vigil is a dynamic offensive player. We know that he is a star. We know that he is an all star. Caliber guy for him to be a superstar. He has to round out his game and do everything he's got to defend. He's got a rebound. These got make plays for others. What wasn't fair is shaquille. O'neal saying hey. I don't think that you have what it takes to get to the next level as a player. And i just wanted you to hear that. What's your reaction. And i felt bad for about donovan. Because he was really dominant in that went over to pelicans he didn't deserve to be blindsided like up on live television and frankly he handled it as about as well as you handle something like that. My rookie year norms gonna get better mood. I do wonder cuba. The look on his face. Kind of indicated that he wasn't happy you know about the question but at the same time he's always been a person that knows how to express himself. I think he's a guy that's kinda. Learn how to lockout the proverbial outside noise and kind of focus on what he has to do and i think a desk one of the reasons why he's improved so much as a player.

"Both so great. And I think it'll be fun to have a time travel movie So yeah. So the books are just like just like the movies and I think in terms of position in the marketplace people know when they come to the hallmark story. Like we're going to have a love story I mean it's a romance, but there's also a lot about the connections between friends and family and community One thing I don't do even though I hope I have a good sense of humor is like really snarky stuff because. hidden a hallmark store. You really have a vibe of kindness I. Guess. A and You know and so that's a really important part. Important part of the story I think is to lose yourself in a community and with characters that have this kind of good heartedness and kindness. That superfund and it's it's really interesting here. Just kind of that connection that you know the programming team has also kind of keeping an eye on. Hey, what are you? What? What's your side of things doing that? May We can convert into a movie because I mean you gotta get forty movies you know for Christmas time you gotta look for some source materials somewhere. "Temecula show the podcast Mitchell's team lost. They were up three one and they lost he didn't have it last night. Tired legs. Didn't have a shooters touch looked exhausted both teams did really in both stars did Donovan. Mitchell Angel Momma or you also didn't have a good game. But Donovan Mitchell on a night where he wasn't feeling offensively. To his second and third and fourth move were trick in his bag of tricks to get his team going off pensively in the third quarter and raced a double digit deficit in a game where that deficit kept wounding six points. Eight points is ten points. Fifteen points. This is about to be a blow out in the game seven. Well, Look Denver is a better team than Utah and Michael Porter Jr. is a guy who can do things and everyone knew if he could ever get healthy, he'd be a problem. Now they have three guys along with Yokich who's a near MVP candidate and Jamal Murray's been having too. Little too much for for Utah and no go bare played really well, but no Donovan Mitchell in the third quarter, wield his team back into the game offensively. And then. In the fourth quarter. Oh. Okay. I'm still not feeling it on the offense event. After it was a game again tied up, even had a lead. After it was a game again, I'm still not feeling on the offensive. I'M GONNA take Jamaal Murray one on one defensively. That guy played great defense. Mitchell's of superstar. He really. Now he's getting Max contract extension. He deserves every penny and more. That's how you earn it. Had Ryan Holland's on the show earlier today? And Ryan said look the reason guys like Jamal, Murray Donovan, Mitchell are putting on this kind of performance. Now obviously look everyone and Ryan knows it starts with intrinsically how great they are how talented they are the work they put in all those things are true. Yes. But when you see ridiculous numbers in any sport in any era. You know everyone now has better passing numbers and Dan. Marino. How many are better than Dan? Marino. Now, all the rules favor the quarterback differently and even more than they did and Dan Marino's right when you see any babe ruth or Lou gehrig's Hack Wilson putting up absurd RBI totals. It's not because they had some neck for driving runners home. It's because the nature of the game that a bunch of high on base percentage low-power guys on a team and then one big power guy if you're gonNA have a lot of RBI's right so it's not. It's not that they're better than players from any other era. I mean, sometimes they are sometimes they're not. It's that the error they played was conducive to it like it was it was advantageous to those kind of numbers look. In. Everyone points to wilt Chamberlain who's ever GonNa Average fifty and twenty five over the course of a season I. think it was sixty, sixty one or sixty one, sixty, two, same year, Elgin. Baylor average thirty seven, an Oscar Robertson averaged thirty with triple double triple double with thirty on the season. That's because that era. If you translate those stats to a different era, you cut them in half. So. Obviously conditions right now favor these kinds of performances. Ryan Holland's analysis. Twofold, one. Because you're in the bubble and there's not the same kind of depth issue with the crowd. Favourite shooters like those virtual crash everything, but it's really more of a flat surface. So it's The death issue was better when you're looking at at the baskets better for shooters. That's one I think that's astute analysis and to. When you have, it's not like they're exactly traditional bigs Yokich and go bare but they're more like traditional bigs than some of the other big playing certainly their height and obviously defensively what? Can do when you have guys like that. You don't have defensive switching. As when you don't have that the guard, the ball handler can go to work with the ball handlers very talented, and by the way is cool under pressure and joe-marie and Donovan Mitchell. They can really go to town with the numbers and that's what done. But who have they gone to town, and it's not just those fifty and forty point games. It's the fact that Donovan Mitchell. Jumped out to a three one lead and Jamal. Murray. Answered with some of the most incredible statistical performances in the history of playoff basketball. To bring his team back. Now I said cool under pressure. Donovan Mitchell got stripped or he actually will. He turned the ball over put out from behind right? Last possession or second last possession as it turned out Jamal Murray streaking the other way all he's got to do is dribble out the clock. Even if they get fouled, he's on the line. He is one of two free throws they can't possibly lose over time he hits both they definitely win and regulation must they've? Foul three point shooter who then, and then the shock at any hits the free throw. Then you're going to overtime is highly unlikely and the chances are they win anyway period Right, so so that was a bad mental error by Jamal Murray. Who admitted so after? The, game. When you look and he could laugh about it now because. They won. But your mammary Donovan Mitchell are the kind of athletes when you leave it or when you put the kind of work, they put in to be this great and when you play as hard as they do. There's no no front. Why are you gonNa Front and pretend just be honest they have no reason not to be honest they're honest players. Donovan Mitchell after the game. Gary coming.

"Returning to Ashley's. But died green this time, more flashbacks, and then Mickey visiting the Donovan Home. When raised it there to talk to abby, and I it is revealed they've been having a correspondence. All right. I I have a theory about rate of it. I I usually. The thing I thought about Ray Donovan before I watched pilot again was that. It was. It was basically like. Pre trump. It was how sort of suburban middle aged males a projected their view. The world and I think that's still kind of right. I still think there's a lot of confidence between the Ray Donovan vision of the world of the Donald Trump vision the world that it's just like this completely fall in place and. It's run by these sort of like deep state. Patta files which it is which it is, but that the only way to stop them is through like just sort of stoic masculinity. The kind of doesn't exist like Donovan isn't even dot stoic throughout the series like he's very inconsistent characters. There's a bunch of times where he just screams insanely, but I think father's love it. There's a special psychological reason why father's love it and I figured it out, okay. Ray Donovan is. This is us. And Council dads and all these shows. That for men. Okay, what do we what? What was our thesis about Council of Dads at this is? We remember our thesis right that. We're giving these characters who have no friction or notre struggle were them. We're giving them cancer. We're giving them just. Deep victimhood that they just take it stride have no problem with death cancer, any other type of illness, any other type of friction lists strife. They take in stride, and it's okay because they have family and it's made for women. It's made for like you know. Sort of boomer. MOMS gen-x bombs whatever middle-class holly middle class people. And it's made that way. Because the makers of the show. What to want to look at their lives and go. Oh, this isn't that bad. It's the it's the produces show saying. What are you complaining about? You fucking piece of Shit here. You fucking morons love this shit. Oh, it's not interesting enough for you here. Boom I just gave five more characters cancer. Here you go you fat fucking freak here! "For the fact that this was going to be a lot longer than any of US initially thought. And so what we did at that point was we just completely backed off our team? Because also at that time we were under the assumption that if we do resume, we're going to try to pack the entire season in so like three or four months as opposed to seven or eight months. We figured we might be playing every three days. which is exhausting for our players, so we just completely backed off I literally said to the group. Treat this like your preseason or your off season I'm sorry. Just like your off season so if you would normally go for. For, A. Run every three days in your off season do that now now. The problem with that of course is that some guys take that differently now. There's some guys did nothing. Some guys worked out every day. We had twice a week. Zoom calls with our guys where they did some strength work, but it was a pretty pretty eclectic mix of where everybody was coming back. some guys did not look like professional soccer players. Other guys look pretty similar and now the job is trying to assimilate everybody so that they're back close to the same page. So July eleventh. That's the date that we're working with. Are there any details landon that you can provide for what you think? The League will look like upon the resumption of play if everything goes according to plan and according to schedule. Yes, July eleventh is the tentative day. I think that's been made public by the League The idea then is to play. Maybe, a three or four months season probably somewhere in the range of about half the game, so maybe in the sixteen to twenty ranch. And then a little bit more regionalized so that there's less travel which helps the cost helps with. Potential spread of the infection etc, etc, so that's that's sort of the general idea. That's none of that's been made final yet, but that's that's the general idea. Okay and is it too early to ask then because we see what mls is doing like the NBA? They're going to go and get into the quarantine bubble. Do you plan to San Diego? Loyal to your knowledge is the idea at least today subject to change your. We won't hold it to you. But is the idea to play in San Diego and do a little bit of traveling or have a pod system, or is there anything that you've heard or you? Think will be put in the play when you guys resume. Sure so with all the appropriate caveats one nothing's final is to that. It's just my sense so take that for what it's worth. My sense is that it will not be in some sort of hot, and that it will be a little bit more sort of Dr See, but with significantly reduced travel, so that everything is more regionalized and localized, so you do as much bus travel as possible. Potentially even as as saying little hotel rooms as possible by way of example, we play La Galaxy in Orange County. So it's possible we could make that in a day trip right up in the morning and play the game. Come back at night, so try to minimize as much travel exposure cost. As possible and then have some version of a season with that, and then I'll just close it again with all the necessary caveats that I could be completely wrong. Okay, we're. We're willing to listen..

"A? Let's say hello to Landon Donovan. He's the manager of San Diego loyal. They have been cleared to train. They have been training. We know that US AL has a scheduled date to return to action of July Eleventh Jim just mentioned during the update there that mls today took another step forward to a resumption of play in a much different looking style in a tournament style before they think they're going to get back to regular league play. Let's say a little landon Donovan who's taken time out here on a Wednesday avoiding the heat for a couple of minutes. We hope to join us on extra thirteen sixty L. D.. How are you? Sorry about yesterday, my sincere apologies. Oh. We're all good you kidding me. There's one thing they pay us to do around here. It's talk, so we just talk and talk and talk and talk, and we love being interrupted so that we can spend a little bit of time with people like yourself. How are you out there on the on the field today? You guys training and the heat of what? It is. It is brutally brutally hot yesterday. It was I felt. Kinda bad for these guys, but they've also been getting paid for two months and not training, so it's fine they're. They're doing well reacclimating and. We are hopefully about a month away from. Playing soccer again. In front of. An audience, although not fan but front of an audience. All right well, we'll get into some of these details now. What are and aren't you guys allowed to do? As it relates to your practice sessions because there are different steps here, I thought i. read that you guys are cleared to do whatever it is you, WanNa do, but what does it been like just getting everybody back up to speed? Yeah. It's been tricky so part of the issues. You have a league wide policy. which needs to be followed so that there's no competitive advantage or disadvantage because some states are in different places than others, but then you're trying to balance that with your individual states so for a long time in California's, you know. You have pretty strict Don't leave home orders. So as soon as we could, we were allowed to train in groups of four so for the players. It's not that big of a deal for the coaches. If you've got twenty six players, you've gotta run six or seven different training.

"Club around here we gotta get the house to god's screwed up the entire baldwin feud and now we've got the face of us soccer with us here landon donovan is joining us on espn radio and who is the most to blame land and thank you for making time for us who is the most to blame for the united states not being in this tournament so that the united states would watch this tournament because the united states is watching the tournament but if if the us were in it would be amazing watching this right now in this country who's most blame for that i agree we probably all are i mean obviously the coaches and players directly involved are gonna take the brunt of it but to some extent we all sort of stood by over the last decade and revelled in some sense of glory that we were having and didn't see the bigger issues going on in internally and in us soccer so we've all played some part in and it's sad because this is so much fun to watch and i can only imagine what it would be like if you know we're waking up at seven am to watch the us play so klinsmann right clinton well clinton clinton's so what you're saying is the clintons the reason right there was all his fault that's right that's what you're trying to get out of it no no we listen obviously coaches have a huge part in that right between klinsmann and bruce arena the two coaches who were in charge during qualifying you know you're again lost the first two games in qualifying i'm not sure in the history of concacaf qualifying that if you lose your first two games any any team has ever advanced and then bruce arena had a chance still to resurrect it and he got the team back to a good place but in the end there was a game in trinidad to qualify for the world cup and we couldn't we lost the game i'll have to do is tie the game and we couldn't do it so that's there's there's plenty of blame to go around and the arguments still be made because it's one that's always being hat around here and i'm sorry sorry for the general soccer ignorance of this question how can soccer still be being viewed as on the rise in america when landon you've been hearing it all your life you've been hearing all your life that soccer's on the rise yeah but it's progressive right it's not like how could we possibly say major league soccer is going to be the nfl and a year or five years or ten years when the nfl has been around fifty years baseball it's been around over a hundred years so it takes time right but if you look i mean there are metrics right there there are data and metrics people are paying a hundred and fifty million to two hundred million dollars for an mls franchise ten years ago they were paying five million dollars right so that piece of it is obvious but along with ratings and sponsorship revenue etc but there's the feel around it i'm sure being in miami see it as much as i do here in san diego and so there's no disputing it i've just been hearing and seeing you all my life like that the thing i see what's happening with his lots on and how america's embracing that in a way never would have before and i see the rowdiness at these soccer games where they feel like frat parties but i've just been hearing it all my life landon while you're probably going to hear how your life we all we all are but over the course of a generation or two there's been massive change and it's gonna it's gonna keep growing and you know there's a listen i i noticed something and it was very subtle and and or maybe not so subtle when i used to go to espn homepage on the internet just being dot com on the top tab it would be nfl mlb nba nhl and then it would say other right and now when you go to that homepage it says nfl and they'll be nhl soccer other right and this is someone who's canadian who's a huge hockey fan but things are changing like that's a very small indication but things are changing and it's going to keep it's gonna keep trending that way you and hope solo had said and this was confusing to me landon before you said it.

"The life of a legend one and donovan and right now i wanna welcome into the show someone who had several touch points along her journey with an not only did head coach of the national champions the south carolina gamecocks but also the head coach of our us women's national team please join me in welcoming dawn staley to the show welcome dawn thanks dina well we wanted to have you on you know i was reading through twitter as i know most of us were when we found out about and passing and you like many of us were devastated afar fans that are listening take us back to your first interaction with a n and just all the different stops upon your journey that you were able to interact with her and share space with her while i mean you know and i go go back probably to like two thousand and one it would she coached me when i was in charlotte charlotte sting member and you know and as as graceful as they come and and i know sometimes people take her her kindness and her quietness and as a weakness but i i saw as strength she was probably as strong as any coach that i've ever been associated with you know we had a season in which we started one ten and and that season you could probably as a coach you thinking you know that you're at the depth of of just packing it in and not wanting to continue but it never felt like the one in ten fees and that was because of and and how she handled things and she always had a a positive spin on any situation and she was always calm so you never felt like things were out of control you always felt like you had a shot and that's why we're able to turn that season around and actually compete in the wnba finals that particular year we lost but but certainly it could've went in.

"Donovan mitchell utah jazz guard by the way drafted by the nuggets in two thousand seventeen thirteenth overall pick but then the jazz acquired the rights to him in exchange for forward trey lyles in the draft rights to another player who was the twenty four th pick overall and donovan mitchell got an off day game to tomorrow against the rockets says the rockets took game one donovan head twenty one in that loss donovan woody do on a day off today right now i'm laying down watching the office to be honest with you what you do you have a favorite office episode i would say probably you know when to white tries to start the fire training that's pretty funny to me just just the whole the whole the whole all the antics that went into that was twenty well he actually starts fire to which is the the great part of that too yes did you ever see that he's a funny character did you see the basketball one in the warehouse when when kevin just like everybody that that was the no one would think kevin would be the guy who's going to go off right and michael being put him on the team what else do you binge watch oh i would say that i've seen probably food shows about four or five times to entirely so burn notice yes they're real and that's on like usa network isn't it well it it was but it it's now and i had to.

"The celtics to your point they've shooting at every position when they're playing horford like wouldn't it be great if rudy gobert could shoot threes i mean that would be incredible basically what i'm trying to say is like just imagine if donovan mitchell was on the sixers he might not get possessed a ball enough to really develop i i don't know i'm not sure i agree i think that would be such a perfect situation and this is how i was planning on transitioning into the sixers because like you give rudy vote griego bear a shot from three and if you have the perfect play or like it's basically yeah perfect because donovan could defend the the point guards that maybe simmons's would be to exerting for him to do right so even thinking preparing to write so stuff in the off season for peace for hawks thinking like conveys more guy trade into philly so he could defend point guards and it was gonna come back on that same number or what have you just totally just throwing stuff at the wall not thinking that's really going to happen but i was thinking about rettig is struggling right now to defend point guards and games wear that's something he has to do covington's option but sometimes if the team has enough of a wing threat at a point guard threat that's going to be difficult so it's gonna be interesting to see what happens but it would be ideal if they had a guy like mitchell who can play mostly off the ball offense defend on the ball on defense and maybe even run the second offense with someone goes the bitch it will be a great fit i think there's just some like that mitchell has a inoperability to get as much partisan the office in utah so the he kinda realizes his move.

"Solution in i think quinn's gonna have to figure out either how to balance those two things so that donovan mitchell is doing things he's comfortable doing and he's doing things that allow him to perform from his best part of his skill set or if he's going to maintain that high touch high sharing system in i think that all that decision point we'll have a lot to do put densely i think likely with who done eventually history of three or four years from now that makes sense so i i think that makes sense but i think that the big thing that changed the big adjustment was that instead of having donovan mitchell create the mismatch himself so if you are running a one five pick and roll i think that when he was going one five against like we'll say westbrook and steven adams basically what was happening it's like stephen adams would strip the ball or russell westbrook is super long arms so he would just take it away and it just it ended up not really working because he's not really a guy who can create them spach with the ball in his hands and what they did start playing ingles at point guard functionally and then using donovan mitchell just running around like a insane person part of the reason he got exhausted but like sort of moving off ball to get the switch he wanted and then using bare setting off greens as well to get go bear on a big or on a player that wasn't going to threaten him a whole lot if he went you know close to a screen.
