"But even if they finish like three or four games out, they stockpiled so many wins. They're going to be in the wild card, you know, number one for sure at home. Then they have a divisional game. They could probably said I would put any Rotation up against, you know, short series against the Giants rotation, even missing Cueto. It's just the seven game, you know the the NLCS and, you know, maybe that's the tough one that's going to be the tough would be that that would be the tough one. But, um They need to get into situational hitting. Why? Because you've got good pitching was going to snuff out your home runs. You're not going to get hooked four home runs against the debt. The Dodgers, the Brewers Um, you know, um the brake issue is not going to do that. So Yeah, it's important. You're absolutely right, Steve. It's important. It's very important that they start putting the ball in play and situational hitting. And tonight just wasn't that and you know, we've seen this in the past. No doubt, but when you start thinking about 26 runners on base in two games They scored four runs. That's not right, and that's where I start grinding as a pitcher going, Okay, Let's start thinking about these at bats. Let's see how you can get out of this little slump and go the opposite way. Put the ball in play, quit swinging through it and try to make good contact and That's what I'd love to see due tomorrow against Walker Buehler, especially. They've got to get a zero on the top of the first inning. That is a must. Whoever pitches they can't give the Dodgers a lead in the first inning like they did tonight. When they were when they pitched when they battle against Buehler was it? I think it was July, right? I think they took three out of four Dodger Stadium. They worked him. They were grinding at bats. They were disciplined. They were waiting for a pitch to drive. Good point. Not doing that anymore Bread, you know, belt a swinging at the first pitch strips. He looks lost. He stopped adjusting Bill. He no longer it was making adjustments anymore, And I'll tell you what the elevated fastball on belt as well as your strengths together swinging right through it. And tonight was kind of strange. I'm not picking on these guys Rough just seemed like he was on a whack today to it just didn't look like he was picking up the curve ball. And then when he threw the fastball, he swung and missed through it. You know, you start looking at Estrada was another one. It just seemed like he was swinging at balls Do bond was lost. He got one double but struck out in a ball that was by his eyes. Um, but again tomorrow you're going to see a different line up in there, just like Matteo was talking. We'll see the left handers in there tomorrow against Buehler. And let's hope that they do do exactly what you said the last time they faced them. Get the counts, Work the pitches and see if they can maneuver some early runs off of them. And then my last point, I'll let you go. Is they really miss Dani barrels and what's going on with Florida? Those are two Great late inning pinch hitters that can change the game. Yeah, the hamstring issues to have strings again Floors. The hamstrings with Dickerson floors, has had stiffness in that hamstring throughout the year. Donnie barrels is flying back home from New York. He was quarantined there for 10 days. And you know how How is he going to be in shape? How is he going to come back? Same thing with Alex would Alex Wood is not doing better? He's you know, feverish. She's not feeling well, uh, you know, that's that's a big miss in the starting rotation missing Alex would there Illusion. Be great. It would be great. Well, it would be great to have ease him in the late innings. Uh, if Florence feels better get him at third base. Maybe Bryant are based and have Longoria ease into the game. He takes a while to get hot Bill. He takes a while defensively and offensively to get warmed up. I just think if they ease him in with, uh, spelling of Bryant and then floors when he's better then you're going to have your child entire infield income. October. Yeah, Let's just let's just hope they all get healthy. That's the biggest thing, Steve that. I mean, everybody on this team needs to get healthy and they need to To get a little life in this bats again and, you know, 201 home runs. You can't just rely on a home run ball every game and they've done it. Don't get me wrong. They've won with it. They can continue to keep grinding and hit home runs. But when you're facing guys like Korea's and Buehler and and some of these other pitchers brewers throughout their that's tough. Those guys are tough pictures and It's tough to continue to keep getting 53% of your runs on home run balls, and I'm right back with you. Let's get some better quality at bats. When runners are on base and and see if you can get a couple runs here in narrative hat up and and add on during the game and How many times you hear that all the time, Not just get the first couple runs the add on runs always always hurts the opposing team. All right. Well, thanks, Steve. Appreciate the call. All right. Great calls tonight. Thanks So much for joining me on extra innings Coming up. Next is Joey Amalfitano, Sit back and relax and listen to this. Some great stories from Joey. Uh, 67 years and professional baseball. He does talk about some of the coaches that he coached Ron Wotus talks about Ron talks Bruce Bruce Bochy. Brian Sabean was a real close friend of his and just some good baseball hearted baseball. So sit back and relax. And, uh, listen to this. And then we're on tomorrow at 12 o'clock for the pregame show. And then tomorrow night. After the game. So four o'clock start, I sat down with Kirk reader, Woody and just had a fabulous conversation with him. You'll hear that tomorrow in extra innings, but we're going to take a quick break and Joey Amalfitano will join us coming back. And can be.

Doesn't that make it our time? Good day. Everyone just gave up setting to have a heart polymath podcast. Creative. Tony Shannon Caylor boy. There's a lot going on on June 17th. Let me first by, say, happy 6 17 91 Day to the Grateful Day community when they opened the show with eyes of the world, the giant stadium. It's the only time they ever opened the show with eyes of the world ever in their history, And I was there anyway. Tony. Hey, Good morning. Yeah, I was there. That's beautiful. Hold on. Were you stunned When Alison you started hearing the lick of ice done? Yeah. Place one nuts. Yeah, that's of course. Of course I saw on Twitter. I already saw some links being posted in celebration of of 6 17 91. Are you serious? Yeah, it's cool. Very cool. I'd also like to say before we see a letter Shannon Caylor, I'd like to say Happy National Eat a vegetable day. June 17th and Happy National Mascot Day So shout out Crazy Crab shoutout Lucille Shoutout Sour dough Sam Shoutout Thunder. Any. Anything else? Um, Jennifer Sharky Sharky. How about Sharky? Okay. How about San Diego Chicken about the chicken? How about the Philly fanatic who's coming to town this weekend? As we record this Thursday? What's the name of the Philly Flyers mascot? Oh, the new one. Um, What's his name? He's got a Twitter account. He's got his own Twitter again. It's like a big hit Two people. He's awesome. He's awesome. Oh, what's his name worker or something? I'll find it. I'll find it. Um we said good morning to Shannon yet. Are we keeping them outside? Now? We're keeping them outside. Hello. Okay, Dan, get do I get to play? What's the deal? Definitely get to play. Tony is being very resistant to your charm today. I don't know why What, Tony? I have takes hot ones, too. Yes. Not as hot as gritty The Flyers mascot. Happy National Master. Yeah. Gritty. You have a Shannon. Do you have a mascot You'd like to add to the celebration. Well, I don't know if it's really a mascot. But you know how like honey always comes in like a bear formed like bottle or something. I've always wondered if like Bears are the mascot of honey. Maybe. Like Winnie the Pooh was the mascot of Honey. He's always got really have you guys named all the local ones? Mm. There's not a mascot that you might enjoy elsewhere. Shannon. I don't know if anybody mentioned the Stanford Cree. I don't know. Tree. How about OSCE Key? The Calbert? What about Ralphie? The Colorado Buffalo? Wait a minute. What about the alligator? That doesn't even have a name at sf State. Go Gators Trump Trump. Let's go. While you need to name that s O. B Did San Francisco state to the Gators have a fight song? Man, you know, love to hear it as the guy who is the basketball announcer for two years. I never heard it. Shannon beginnings. They have one. Can you give us a three pointer made at a Gator game place? Oh, Alex Thomas. Good for three. That's not bad at all. I like it. I think it's pretty good. Too bad high boys. Hey, we gather here today on Thursday, June 17th as he said, and the Giants are Ridiculously hot. It's incredible. What's going on? It's just incredible. The NBA playoffs are in full swing. In fact, after we record to say, I'm going to run over to the yard and catch from Kevin Gausman throwing against the D backs Nice. It's just guys. Let's just first talk about the element of surprise here. I mean, Caylor, you're relentlessly optimistic, young guy and I like that about you. You always have, like positive things to say. I think it's safe to say like none of us saw this common that the Giants are 20 some odd games over 500. They got a six game lead over the Padres. They got a two game lead over the Dodgers. We're in mid June. Shannon, this s is getting real. Yeah, it's getting very real. And it's all because it's starting pitching, I think, and we saw what happens when they have two piece mail together. Some openings we saw little and Sammy kind of get knocked around a little bit. But then the offense came alive and and kind of saved them. I feel like this. This long stretch really is owed to you know the folks like DeSclafani throwing to shut outs Gausman being a total revelation and mostly because of the giant staff, this this You know, 500 person staff that they have in the dugout every day. You know it's working, and it's really cool. And, uh, the offense has been hit or miss. Um up until this you know this Diamondback series, and now they're hitting against this very sad, lonely, pathetic team. Which they should. But maybe this will kind of galvanize the crew a little bit and the offense can get going. But who would have saw this from the starting pitching? I don't think anybody did. No, no. Do you guys Tony? Let me go to you on this because I'll ask. I'll ask the questions here today. You guys just be ready to answer, for God's sakes. I'm kidding. Tony on like I am starting to say it is real like this team is for real and my premature in that, or you also feel like No, this is the things got legs to last. Yeah, this thing's got legs the last and yeah, Guilty as charged. None of us saw this. Coming up that the Giants and you know, on June 17th would be tied for the best record in baseball. I mean, that they'd be tied for second and home runs in baseball. That they would lead baseball in saves that you know all these crazy stats like, uh, Shannon already mentioned. I want to give a shout out to Donnie Echo the hitting coach and his hitting staff because Yes, they struggled on this last road trip. But, you know, as we know, baseball ebbs and flows man and there's slumps in baseball, and they just had a team will almost a team wide slump on the road, But I watch guys You guys know how much I love Posie watching Posey hit this year. It's like it's going back in time. I don't know He just his swing has never looked better that home run he hit last night. I did a freeze frame like frame by frame his swing on the replay, and it was just a beautiful Baseball swing, and then I'm sorry, but I'll probably get out some grief for this, but I think the second best overall pure hitter in the Giants. Line up when the Giants roster is Donnie barrels, Donovan Solano, I think that that kid every single not every single time 95% of the time he is making solid contact, even when he grounds out or even when when he flies out. I mean, even when he strikes out, which is rare, he's battling And another stat. This is a crazy stat. Shout out D C cab. Darren Chan, who's in the booth with that? You know Skype, and I'm not. Kite keeps doing well at home. He's he's resting. Um, but Kruk and Miller and Flem Is, uh, this is we're recording this on Thursday last night Wednesday night. The Giants saw 194 pitches in eight innings. From the D backs that is out outrageous. That's almost two complete games worth the Giants and they felt well hold on, and they fouled off 44. Balls like these guys are grinding out at bats they are battling..

"I mean, we got good pace of play going here. See, that's the beauty of being a pitcher is that you can control the tempo of the game. If you wanna work slow and piss people off. You can do that. If you want to work fast and piss people off or work fast because it works well for you. You could do that. That's what I loved about. Being a pitcher is that you control the tempo I use of work fast and all sudden take my time. Just because the certain hitter that was coming up I just couldn't stand and I'm like I'm gonna get in this guy's grill. So I'm gonna literally take 30 seconds in between pitches, and then somebody else, not quick pitch. But you know, getting back on the mound and getting like Alex would That guy works fast and again. If you go back to this podcast, we were all excited when they signed would to the one year deal, And I think some people are wondering why. I mean the guy's a good picture. And and I don't know what to see that If you talk about the Evan flow of the season, we'll wait to see how they You know how they're looking. And, you know, come the dog days of summer as they say, but as of right now, Wow. Hey, real quick song parody idea, Tony, this one's for you. I'll just do the very ending. I just had an idea of a joke. But if it's good, maybe we'll do something. Alison chains would the very seriously the very end of the two and Tony legs would could you go? You want to do something? Something I'm working on? Tony go ahead like that. I like that. I mean, there's a lot of different ways you could take the wood for Alex would write. I mean, seriously, though, And while I was watching gospel yesterday, the guy throws you know, mid to high nineties and these dropping this 82 mile an hour changeup. It's so good watching these guys on their front foot. Because they're looking fastball and trying to react. I mean, it is. It's It's beautiful. It zits really fun to watch and listening to Sean s is on the Murphy Mac program this morning. He was just the way he was talking about. Picture is just being so good in this era of baseball. I agree. I mean, there's a lot of no hitters, but that's because pitchers have gotten so strong and so You know they're mastering certain pitches. And you know if you throw 98 you come back with an 82 mile hour changeup That's like that's like diving out of the zone that's really, really difficult to hit. Yeah, and mean So. All the while. You know, we have these amazing pitching performances coming at US. Web is Kind of modeling himself after Alex would moving faster in the tempo going and I think Cueto is going to pick it up here pretty soon, but all the while we got guys coming back from the D l we got the Grandpa dick. He's back. And don Juan. Oh, Donnie barrels. Donnie barrels back. I love watching that kid hit. I missed him. Miss Dani barrels and by the making meek somebody else I miss it is going to give a shout out of love across the country to the New York met Kevin Pilar as he took a ball of the face, which means he posted a video and have to try and find the audio about him talking about how he feels. Not bad for the picture that hit him, But he can understand why the what the picture is going through after hitting him in the face, and it's like that is that's Kevin floor. In a nutshell. Empathy right and he was. He was not a giant for long when he was a great giant for a short amount of time, and I was pretty bummed out when they got rid of him. He's a guy that would fit in. To this team. I think pretty well. And I have a question about something I saw on social media on Twitter and I don't know the answer to this, Paulie. You might Shannon. You might I saw the picture. Buster Posey, Britain and Brandon Crawford in a couple of the Giants in the team bus, all wearing disco like seventies gear, Not nice, and I'm wondering. Because disco disco Vanni Pitched What's today Thursday. He pitched on Tuesday, and it was his first game back at Cincinnati after playing for the Reds, and I'm wondering if they all dressed up in disco gear for the team bus ride to and from the ballpark and there was nothing. There was no heading or anything about the photos just Crawford and disco gear and necklaces and stuff. And Posey and I've heard for the grapevine. That discovery doesn't even like the nickname Disco. But we're gonna General I milk it all the time. How could you not? All right, you know, But if that is the case, and they got dressed, have been discussed before disco, Vanni AK disco That just shows how loose this team is how much fun they're having, and just to finance his first year on the on the ball club, Shannon likes to say, and, um And they're already embracing this guy and certain you know, goofs and team gags and that scene that kind of stuff That's the sign of like a really good team that has a lot of good chemistry and you know That that that's a good sign down that down the stretch is they say, Tony taught me this a long time ago. Shannon, I'm dead. Serious to Tony was like, Hey, when somebody when you're interviewing somebody, and somebody says something interesting, ask him a question about what he just said, Tony, I'd like to use that tactic on your own reply. If I could. I'd like you to tell me as you are proud. You know, again, like if you knew the podcast. First of all we welcome aboard. It's great having you Shannon Caylor Stone. "I just wanted to say that I love listening to your show, man. I'm talking baseball and extra inning. You keep me entertained. Well, I work in my van, so I appreciate it. Yeah. You know what? I got a little. I got a little upset yesterday. You know, I get on these pictures and you know I've pitched for over 20 years and they have for relievers that come in and walk eyes and hits batsman and you open up the door for the pirates to come back. Was right with all the college yesterday I was upset come in and throw strikes. That's your job today. They did it today. The bullpen was stellar. They get the win. They move forward, and that's the key, especially playing against the Pirates come out of there to Game two wins out of four games after you dropped two tough ones. Yeah, You know, I agree. I feel like with the young bullpen. You know, it's hard for me to really get on them right now. Like we do ball and stuff like that. They're just learning. But you know, guys like McGee and Whistler, You know, I'd love to see them come in. And you know my biggest concern with the bullpen is them throwing one pitch? Like I'd like to see them, You know, mixing a couple other pitches. You know, I was thinking earlier. I was like, maybe we could have McGee and Whistler come in at the same time, you know? Yeah. One fastball, one slider. That's a good combination right there. Yeah, You know, it's difficulty in and you know is baseball's moving forward. It just seems like relievers have one, maybe two pitches, but a lot of them are just stuck on one pitch and I went on Duval yesterday The guy threw 100 miles an hour, but he was throwing three out of four pitches, Sliders and that's what confuses me, Man. If I had 100 Miles an hour coming out of my right arm, you are not even going to see a slider. I'm gonna hit corners. I'm gonna elevate And the young kid is the learning this and I like what Caplis said. Hey, we're gonna put him in low, low energy roles more in the middle innings. When there's nothing that's gotta preclude him blowing up or making bad pitches and I think that's what they have to do for him. Yeah. No, I agree. My other thing that I want to get your opinion on is a little bit of situational hitting. Uh, you know, I know that's kind of gone by the wayside. And today's I'm a B. With a lot of strikeouts and more guys trying to hit for power, but something that still hasn't left. My mind is in the second, uh, serious against San Diego. We had the bases loaded against Darvish with no outs. And the next three guys struck out three times in a row. And that's really started me. Uh And then today with rough really in high on rough, I really like rough. I think he has less than two outs with Longoria and Crawford on 3rd and 2nd. You just took the words out of my mouth. They they almost did the exact same thing they had. They had 2nd and 3rd, and they punched out three guys so Yeah, they got it. They have to make contact. You know, that's that's a total point. I'm I am sure the hitting coaches, you know, especially do bond and that say he swung at the ball That was out of the zone. Way away. You saw him frustrated with his head down. And then of course, Alex would you had to have him hit? You weren't gonna take him out of the game in the fourth inning. But you gotta make contact in that and you're absolutely right. Jake up about making contact, and that's what they need to do. The new regime and a new analytics is saying swing for the fences. But there's certain times where you've got to try to hit that whole try to maintain and try to get a base hit, but they didn't do it today. Yeah, And you know, I think with, you know, with the bases loaded. It's a little different in this situation because you don't really want to hit into that double play, right? I think today you know anything like a hard hit even like a hard grounder to second or short, you know up the middle would have scored. Longoria, probably Cause. I think he's 100% higher, like close. Do without hands. Yeah, I don't think that's bothering my I agree with you Try toe. Try to get the ball up. Try to hit that fly ball, and you know when you look back in the days when I played, that's what those were free, R B i's hitter said. That's a free R b, I I just gotta make contact. And that was the mindset in hitters back in the day this year, you know the new regime and the new way Baseball is played. I don't think that way and I think they need to because they're leaving too many guys at third base. Exactly, And I think you know this giant steam everyone saying, Oh, they're hitting for power. They're doing this and that, But, you know, I think and that sort of situation with how you know the relievers have been pitching in which In my opinion isn't terrible. I don't want to hate on the relievers. Really? But, you know, getting those extra runs like that used Trump's key homer today. Really, you know, was a play off their chest and you know, I think, just like You know, I think the bond's been hitting pretty much better with guys in scoring position and stuff like that. And I really like to see that, But I'd love to see you know, like rough come up with, you know, I know he had a great game yesterday, and I love seeing him throw guys from the outfield. This is something else I wanted to say, you know, give him props on that. No, I think he's overachieving. I really do. And when you talk about Du Bon eight for 17 and his last seven games, and he went two for four, today's battered batting average is up to 2 38. Tell you what. I think he's been playing great second base that catching them. The mid center feel yesterday. That was this outstanding. He's got speed about the play today, going way over in the following, making the catch, diving into the net and making the throw. And then the play at 1st and 3rd. That's a gutsy call in. He doesn't 3 60 spots of fastball right on the base to get the guy a third. That's what you want. Those of the defense of plays of you can continue to maintain him and do Bonds got that can and he's a middle infielder. That's what he came up as Center field right now, I think you got many observations of Doug, are you got Ta Zeman. You got enough People of play center field. I think he's valuable on the infield now. Yeah. No, I wouldn't 100% agree. I think Do Bon is, you know just like rough, you know, overachieving in the field, And then last thing I want to run by you is you know what Solano coming back? I know it didn't go like three for three in Sacramento or something like that. He did yesterday yesterday. I don't know what he did today. They they had a day game today, So I'm sure we'll hear about what he did Bt through world well, yesterday, too, And so did cut Scott Kazmir. So Interesting stuff down there, But I'd like to see what's gonna happen with Solano and who's going to be optioned out. That's what's going to end up happening when he comes back. Yeah, I agree. And I think I see maybe will Mary getting some time off, and I'd love to see Solano back in Atlanta because I think that's a guy that can really, really good. It's situational hitting and like, even if there's a dude on third with less than two hours, you know who get that balls out field and score that run or, you know you just Donnie barrels. You know they're on the ball. You know, it's true. And you know what you think about this Jacob. Years ago, he was playing in Triple A, and nobody was even given him a shot. Nobody even you know, thought of him as a big leaguer. Last year, he was the Silver Bat Award. How about that, you know is the best second basement. With the batting average, and there was cool. I'm real happy form and, you know, get him healthy. Get him back up here, and we definitely need him in the Giants lineup. Yeah, I agree. Thanks for the call. I really appreciate it and give me a call any Saturday and Sunday. Love talking baseball with you Appreciate it. Have a good Sunday. All right, let's go to Clovis and let's talk to Bob. Bob. What do you cooking tonight under barbecue? No barbecue, T. Oh, man. I was gonna go where you go. I was expecting something good, like tri tip or something. No, no, no, no. Today we're doing, huh? Homemade homemade. Grazie. You gotta have a day Italian commandos with the fresh shallots. The fresh Basil, the fresh oregano and then you make it a meatball that the meatballs they're made out of. You are so lucky. You don't live on the peninsula, Bob because I'll be knocking on your door again today we'd be sending it to you we do ever whatsoever. Hey, makes you makes meatballs with pork beef ban..

"Kapler made his line change. He decided to go to talk man and he goes to Slater and it goes to terror. Excuse me goes the Du Bon away from top money goes to Slater against a rough they were able to put together that little rally. When did nobody on and two away and they open the battle back. Get a couple of guys on base to bond. Oh, two, keeps battle and keeps battle and fight enough pitches and then again gets a base doctor helps the Giants win the ball game. 3 to 1. The final Jake McGee pitch up to save Alex would foreign O with an E. R a under 1.9. That's the first time a giant has been foreign O was in Iran or 19. Since 2000 and 10 get this both very Zito and Tim Lincecum sure of those numbers about five or six weeks into the season, so pretty good stuff maybe bodes well for this giant steaming gave Capital last night was talking about that on the post game that this is a team that roots for each other. These guys were fired up for each other and Alex would I left the game after seven. Last night's What? Caught seven. And then I was in an uber. Uh, like watching her on my way home, and I count the final couple of house when I got into my apartment, but, uh, Alex what was fired up getting out of that game watching to bond get that hit. He was like ecstatic like I don't know. I like to go with the red ass like that. I like a guy who's gonna get ejected from the game when he's he's not in the game. Remember, that happened last week when they were on the road. He was barking at the empire in Colorado at third base and random from the game and Was gonna play it all. But But I like Kelly, our He's got that veteran presence and he's a guy who was pitching well enough right now is asking Terry Crowley a couple weeks ago. Who could you see more likely to make the All Star teams that God's butter? Alex would I think the answer is just yes. Both guys are in the mix right now, just based on how they've pitched at the beginning of this season. So Gabe Kapler in talking about that line change, not getting any offense, really, until you get Kyle Gibson out of the game. Gibson pitched really well for them. Yesterday. He gave Buster Posey fits early in the game. Also, he buster came up with an opportunity with guys on base and swing at the first pitch, which got a surprise Me, but I thought, Boy, maybe he's trying to jump on something early here and Try something different because you've gone deeper into a couple of the bats early in the game and didn't have any production out of it. So how about Gabe Kapler talking about the use of his pinch hitters? Here? He does. This line change. It all pays off of the end of the game. This happened multiple times this year, Gabe Kapler on using his bench. Yeah, it worked out well for us. You know, it's it's tough when you're going to roll out like three pinch hitters all at once, because, as you know, Susan like that couldn't end and outs as well and If you don't end up scoring Iran, you're kind of almost out of players. You got us all he left on the bench. So, um, what we do want to try to get the platoon advantage when we can not. We're not always going to get there. But tonight we were able to do it with with considers in succession, and I thought to bonds. If that was excellent, obviously, that's the one that's going to stand out. But, you know, Slater's was equally good and and rust was awesome as well. It's gonna make you uncomfortable, right? Because any time you you kind of use all your weapons all at once, it just kind of leaves the exposed But glad it worked out for the guys today and in particular, really, really proud of do Bond and how he battled and not about real grind of it of a plate appearance. Yeah, it was great. It bad. Was he a band of the nineties? Right? You can't sleep on this later about or the Darren rough it that what sort of funny is I was thinking wins. When do Bond came up? Last night? I was sitting with my Kohler, The Pretty sure of the pop on lunch. We were thinking last night. He's he's not been the biggest supporter of to bond. He was, like, points not hitting anything else a gay man. You gonna get a big double on Sunday over? I mean, that wasn't a big double. It was ah, bomb of a double over the head of the center fielder off the wall of the Padres, and he goes on. And I said, Yeah, well, so we were kind of giving him crap. When when do bond came upto to take? This is bad. Like boy, you better not be pulling in was getting an opportunity here to drive in a run. Let's get behind do bond here, so to see him get the big not, but what's funny about this is early in the season. We saw this a lot, but we kept crediting Kapler for these line changes going, boy. He'll pull out its Dickerson put in rough rough. It's a home run. He'll pull whoever the center fielder was at the time. I don't know. Lamont, Wait. You put in a right handed hitter and Du Bon. He gets a base knock. It was happening much more before the injuries. He was happening way more frequently. When they had Tommy lost Ella. They could mix and match and when they have the ability Put in, uh, my blanket on here, Donnie barrels. Excuse me, Dani. Barrel started in. Solano is getting ready to come back and he's gonna do a little rehab appearance. I think down in Triple A's what they're waiting for, so he's been working his way back. But I think when you have those options, it's not much more successful. Many more successful switches late in the game. A lot of better substitution is and we haven't seen that as much. I don't think over the last week and a half, but I think that just has to do with personnel that has to do with with the injuries they're dealing with. His captor has been tapping the right guys. It feels like more often than not this season. Certainly when it comes to offense, defense, Excuse me on pitching and pull pin. That right hand side of the bullpen has been Just sort of want Keith and not all that consistent, but hopefully they found more consistency here with some guys'll exactly Tell And maybe, as they get more healthy, they'll be able to get more out in the later innings. Tyler Rogers fantastic again yesterday anyway, more from Gabe Kapler. You're talking about more on that pinch it from appreciative on and then we'll hear from De Bonnie just says Hey, man, When you're on this team, you're on this roster and he's right. You have a favorite player. You go to the game, and he's not in you may still see that guy I like the fifth or the sixth inning, capital says proud of Du Bon. Everybody's got to be ready. I think it's more like you. Have you have Slater and rough on the bench, right? We're going to be looking for opportunities to get them put them in the most advantageous positions. Du Bon is not a guy that you necessarily expect is gonna go up there with a big Pinch it moment, but it turned out that you know there was there wasn't Ah, Big bang between Slater and rough. So you know, the extra base hit from rough didn't come there that may have scored Slater and we felt like it was the best match up to get to get to Bonn. In there is the bats have been better. He's been really battling in those situations. What I try to do is is have you know all of our bench players, all the guys that are coming off the bench ready for for any moment so we can make last night. Decisions and I think, Oh, just inland does a tremendous job in in the cage getting these guys ready for the big paycheck Moments. They're basically training for for those spots. That doesn't guarantee success. There are gonna be times and I just kind of couching here where we're going to kind of roll out the same program that we did tonight, and it's going to be unsuccessful. That's his baseball, But when it when it works the way it did tonight, it's gratifying. And there's no shortage of preparation going on to get ready for that moment. There you go. Dustin Lin getting the credit one of the hitting instructors. Hitman credit there. Forget these guys. Prep do but also after the game gave a little bit of credit to Donovan Solano for helping him stay ready on the bench, and he's right..

"Ball game is over the Giants of beating the Rangers by the final score. 321 Should do it Boy Hank of a ball game last night for the Giants. Ah, pretty fun night at the ball, park it by the way, and that's little tighty ballgame to sort of flew through. Alex would off to the best start since. I don't know Barry Zito and 2010 Tim Lincecum sometime around that same era for an O and E R a under 1.9 right now, for Alan, My God, huge A fantastic for him. And, of course, the Golden State Warriors pick up a huge win over the Utah Jazz last night. The final in that game 1 19 1 16 Steph Curry, three of 13 from beyond the arc. What makes the big three pointer late in the ball game and they fend off the Utah Jazz come back and they turn right back around tonight. Gonna face the other top team in the Western Conference, The Phoenix Suns. So these Rico student Thank you, Dave. The Barbary Coast be slapped with a Barbary be slapped. Whatever you wanna call it when both the Giants and the Warriors get a win on the same day at home, and they have another opportunity for that today, the Giants playing a day game, a rare the random, rare Tuesday Day game and I guess Just traditionally, What you get is like the Monday off day when you get too short to game serious, and then you get a Tuesday Wednesday serious where you get a Tuesday night game on a Wednesday, mid afternoon game, but the way it's gonna work today or for this two game set. With Texas is you played last night and then you get a day game today. So a little day baseball for the Giants, which is always sort of fun for me when they can wedge in a game that you're not expecting to be an afternoon game, not necessarily for your home team, but for any team, because it gives me something. Do it Afternoon. I'm gonna get back down there today. I was out there last night. It was a good crowd Last night. It was much lighter crowd that we had all weekend and I had heard that on Friday night. That might've been the most number of fans the Giants have had at a ball game. This season. I think there were red around 9200 or something for that. That celebration of Willie Mays on Friday. Then Saturday, they went up to 97. Then on Sunday, they were up over 10 grand, so the fans are coming back out. It was a beautiful night at the park last night, and and Giants fans were treated to a good performance. A good pitching performance of pretty good defense. Ah, huge. Pinch hit for Marie Show Dubon and what was a fantastic it back? We'll hear from him a little bit later. In the show, but he was talking about. I heard a little bit about this on the pregame show them saying that looks like Donovan Solano is gonna get some rehab work in sometime soon in the minor leagues, But there is no divine was talking about how Donovan Solano has helped him with his pinch hitting approach, which something to be said about a guy who they call Donnie barrels right. There's always barreling up the ball and do bond comes in yesterday late in the game, he's down. Oh, too, and he's able to Ah to battle and I kind of thought boy in that situation there many times over the last couple of seasons where Devon has been over Match when he's behind in the count, and we'll just kind of waving pitches. He puts him really good swings on some pitches that we're close. Put away pitches on, was able to fight them off, battle them off if he found off three or four before before he was able to. Ah, line that ball into the outfield and the Giants and I'm coming back and Not coming back, taking the lead and then holding onto the lead, But not without without a little ninth inning theatrics from Jake McGee. I'm still sort of questioning this. I mean, Texas came into this game is the one of the hottest teams offensively in baseball. They're not a great team that I have a ton of bullpen arms and another tunnel weapons outside of their starting lineup, which you know you play in Texas and you're an American League team. You're putting up some offense and they have some guys. You can put together some good at bats and could be dangerous. But I don't think they're team that's scaring anybody in the American League of the American League West. However, they came in hot may be the only team behind the Red Sox as far as hot offenses in the A. L and the giant just kind of quiet in there bats yesterday, Alex would pitch that awesome jam to get some good defense. You know, huge double play with sixth inning I think before he gets out of the ballgame there comebacker right to him, and he's able to to get the out of second and then floor is on the first for the double play Brandon Belt with a big opposite field home run. What he's crazy right now is you go to these games, and they put all these extra Say extra staff says I guess I just they're just stands. We pay attention to now you know your exit velocity, your launch angle and whatnot. But they're big now on putting up the strikeout percentage for a player and the walk percentage for a player. You know, baseball right now. Average batting average across the league is just over 2 30. Through that five weeks. 5.5 weeks of the season. That's the lowest in the modern era. To this point, I was listening to the baseball Tonight Podcast yesterday, which is always fun on a Monday because Tim Kurkjian hosted instead of Buster only because on lease usually find around the country doing like that, taking a red eye after the Sunday night baseball game, wherever he is covering it, So they call it a baggage claim Monday, usually always checking in from like no joke he was like in the Atlanta airport. Yesterday. It's like, check in and you get it going here. Thanks to the heart of like a flight 4 54 to Chicago. O'Hare is leaving in 15 minutes, Eh? So you get you get only sitting in a baggage claim somewhere at an airport doing the podcast. But anyway, they were talking about, um, how many no hitters we may end up with this year just because of how dangerous the pitching has been and how maybe this could end up being the overcorrection. This is the thing. Baseball's gone through so many errors. Of the dead ball era, the juice ball era, the steroid era. The well. The pre integration or desegregation of baseball area go through all the different ways Baseball has changed and evolved in the game has evolved. While it's been, for the most part the same game for 150 years it has evolved..

"And so some of that was them coming back that their baseball cards then on top of that, you've got maybe a little bit of lock. Um, you've got some guys took a step forth and young guys. I think they did some good job, you know, playing the waiver, wire and acquisition game and getting that somebody like Donny Solano, get Donnie barrels on the squad without really, you know, you're spending a lot of money to do it. Bond, then also a little bit less known for people is that they revamped. They're hitting coaching squad. So now they run like six hitting coach is deep. And they've really got those cool process that goes up and down from the minor leagues, always physically where, if a coach talks to a player, they they pretty much Just go to their phone after they talk to the player and they'll write down what they what they said in sort of short crib, notes, the press a button and that goes to every other coach and and everybody else in the organization. So now they know what if we said this player recently how we said it? What sort of information that we give those player and we can connect the dots with that and their performance. And so I think You know, someone like Brian felt having one of the best years of those clear. I don't think that was on Lee regression. You know, only going back to that racial card. I think he got the right information of the right time. And that's kind of their motto. So I think they did something for sees really that good. I think they also you know, went and got sort of way from where guys and built a, You know, Offensive averages around 29 years old 30 years old. But it was working for San Francisco and it's you know, it's contact heavy and It's a part so I think that they've got a lot of different sort of approaches. China keep that offense going while they, you know, build similar sort of thing for pitching pitching development of our league. Talking baseball NPR with that friend, you know, source of the athletic. He's joining us here on the Tolbert Kruger in Brooke's show. Let's talk specifically about the baseball. I feel like I'm in the minority on this, I got a problem with baseball, manipulating the actual ball for desired effect. I understand whether doing it and I'm cool with it to lessen how it travels and maybe cut down on this all or nothing home run our strike out thing, But it just seems to be that Major league baseball is just normalizing and admitted that they've tampered with the ball before and they're just kind of normalizing it. Get a desired effect. When you know, maybe this will take a little bit longer, But it would be nice in my estimation of baseball, incentivize monetarily more on anything else. Guys playing the game a different way and and there were a way that would be entertaining to a lot of people where it's you know the ball's in action and you got guys in play. And you got action on the base paths. Are we just gonna be in a baseball now where they just depending on what they want to do and how they want to do it. They'll just make the baseball the instrument to get them what they ultimately desire. Sure seems that way. I mean, the baseball is one of those things that they don't They do it within the specifications, which are super broad. You know the specifications of the American ball or wave larger than they are for the Korean ball of the Japanese ball. And since they've created widespread investigations, they kind of play within it, And that's what this announcement was. It was like, Hey, we're gonna make it less bouncy, and it's not gonna change the specifications of the ball. But it is going to change the way the ball plays and I think that you know, I'm a two month to or like I'm like, Yeah, OK, I think you should change the rules and change the game toe make it better for fan. You know, I think that's a good idea. But I'm also worried that you know small changes. The ball can go really. And change the game dramatically. So in Korea, they changed the ball on the same scale. Not exactly the same way. But on the same scale in terms of a gram here and you no point no one of whatever here Did the same thing in Korea, and they lost 30% of the homers from one year to the next. I think if we lost 30% of our homers from last year, I think people would be upset and it doesn't directly change the strikeout nature so we would have a ton of strikeouts. And you know, a third less homers. I think nobody really wants that. We just make the ball bigger. So it's easier to hit. Yeah, I mean, make it bigger. Okay? Honestly, the way they did, it was like, okay, we re centering it. It's gonna You know we can We can weaken better replicate the ball this way. So on so forth, it's all for efficiency involve law. But they obviously could have centered it around the 2020 ball. There's 2019 ball. Instead, they're going to send her it. It looks like around the 2017 ball 2016 so Lot of homer's but not record breaking amount of homers. And they're doing that. Maybe long term that disincentivize some of the you know, hitting the ball in the air in the launch angle thing. Maybe that disincentivize is, um, you know, striking out so much, but I think that's a lot of maybes. I'm not sure that this connects the string. I think that The way to reduce strikeouts is to do something about velocity. Velocity is number one in the game right now that everyone's so 94 once you get once you throw a ball over 94, the swing striker, it's go way high. I think that you gotta do something about the mound or maybe let me ask you this. This is darn. I've talked about this and I've asked a number of people this and I know people that have heard me they're going to say again and I know I just I gotta ask because you seem to be a good person. Ask about this. I've talked about baseball basketball being similar in the way baseball's about home runs and basketball's about three pointers. And that's really the game now, and I've always wondered what The game of basketball be like if they widened, the court made the three point line like 26 ft, So you couldn't shoot as many threes or extreme..

Donny Solano Brian 2019 30% last year 2017 2016 Tolbert Kruger 26 ft 2020 94 Brooke San Francisco Korea two month Korean Japanese Donnie barrels 30 years old Bond

"And not so much like. I don't even think that's the biggest question like pretend like relevant to success for the Giants. But I do think, if poses good or opposes the Posey. We were used to seeing for so many years. Obviously, the Giants are in a much better situation. I think the better question is like What are they looking for? Like you can have your expectations for like we need him to to put up these numbers. But what does he need to do to help this team be successful? He's gonna play Gold Glove defense is just what he does behind the plate. I don't know how much run he's gonna get it First. There's a lot of right handed bats. There's there's no reason for Buster Posey to pick up the first base and spent this year. No reason whatsoever. So the question I have is, Does he end up in a situation like we're watching Warrior basketball right now? Second warrior reference of the pot by the way today. Steph Curry Looks like he's more fresh than we've ever seen. And Draymond Green looks pretty good, too. He had a four game scratch over the last week or so. Re and 50 assist his legs look good. I think there's something to be said about guys in the N B, A who play year after your deep into the playoffs, putting a lot of extra miles on those legs. The same can be said about Buster Posey in the postseason. For that stretch of years, he comes up in 09 sure, at the end within 2010 in May deep into the postseason, win a World Series 12 the exact same thing 14. Same thing, 16 the same thing into the playoffs and all of those times. I think you said this last week outside of the Grand Slam off from that late. Oh, so there's not a whole lot of offensive calling cards for Buster Posey in the playoffs, So it's all about how he handles the staff how he handles the defense, how he calls pitches and maybe unrivaled by anybody in the game today outside of Yadi Molina. In ST Louis Buster is the best catcher of this generation. So for me, it's about where he's hitting in the lineup. What are your expectations for the offensive production? So I don't know if he's gonna be like Is it gonna be Steph Curry fresh because he's had this time off, or is he gonna be that hip is just is just still not what it used to be. You know what I mean? I'm really Yeah, I'm really fascinated because I believe it was. Nick Hundley, who said back in 2017 when he was first playing with the Giants came into spring training and said after Hundley had played it course field in Colorado that if Buster Posey was a Colorado rocky, he would win the batting title every year. He is that type of a hitter. He is that type of knowledge plate discipline, ability to go the other way work with what pictures are giving him and he just wasn't healthy enough in 2017 or 2018 2019 to really do much damage. And now that he will have this year and a half off in between serious baseball competition that's putting stress on his body. Will he return to that level? Where you know he is a 300 hitter? He is a 3 10 guy. We know he's not gonna hit 20 home runs. That's just not happening. He probably won't play enough to hit 20 home runs, Will he? Catch 100 games. Well, it only be 81 games. How quickly will Joey Bart working the next? I'm really fascinated. See all of us, and I think we're gonna learn. Ah, whole lot. In spring training about what Buster Posey is capable of just based solely on where he isn't lineup how often he's playing. If they've got him going back to backs. It'll be interesting to see Adam. I want to move on to pressing question Number two, and that is speaking of the lineup. Speaking of where Buster Posey's hitting. I do believe it'll be much lower this year than it was under Bruce Bochy is the Giants lineup better? Against right handed pitchers or left handed pitchers. Keep this in mind against righties. You'll see Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, Tommy Lost Ella Alex Dickerson. Maybe new trade acquisition. Lamont weighed against lefties. It'll be Donovan Solano, Donnie Barrels. Wilmer Flores, Darren Rough, Austin Slater and Marie She. O D. Bon. What's funny? Is there so many guys and this is far Hunt's plan and we see this with the Dodgers. You're going to see it with the Padres. So much versatility is what makes them attractive. You can mix and match now I do think When they have the left handed lineup out there against the left handed pitcher. They're gonna miss the designated hitter more than some other teams. I think not having for having the ability to put Wilmer Flores that there is an extra bad not having a guy to put have the ability to put Darren rough necessarily out there because Alex Dickerson probably going to start left and that comes back to my left fielder situation with you is if he was the opening day left fielder last year, and if They have a right handed starter for Seattle on opening day. You should see Alex Dickerson in left field, right? Who's the Mariners? Ace to the Mariners Have an ace? Who's on the Mariners. That's the very question like Is this strange? Gorgeous? Still up there now he actually just kind of minor league deal with the Reds. So, Yeah, they're most prominent player for the last few years, getting a minor league contract in Cincinnati. That's when you know you have built a juggernaut, a team that has produced so many so many incredible players. I mean, we're talking. You know Alex Rodriguez and Omar Vizquel was up there. Randy Johnson's up there. Ken Griffey, Griffey's You and your radio Martinez bread, but nothing to write home about. You know, the greatest single season team of all time nothingto write home about anyway, when it comes to the success of this lineup, I really do think the right handed hitting line up against the left handed pitching is going to be the team with the most success. Donovan Solano. What we saw from him last year is gonna be huge. Brandon Belt was awful against left handed pitching last year didn't see a bunch of it, but under I think was under 1 30 against lefties. So I'm or intrigued by the guys that were brought in last year that we saw success from Mikey, as is going to be out there against lefties and righties. I really like the idea of Darren rough planes from first base against lefties and getting a chance to hit. Maybe you put a guy like that, like Wilmer Flores over a third. I think the deal doesn't play who doesn't play first base on this team? If Darren Rough, Austin Slater, Brandon Belt, Tommy Lost Ella and Wilmer Flores and Buster Posey all had first baseman's mitt. Question in spring training question is who doesn't get to play against the left? Which right handed batter you leave it out of the line up against the lefty. I got a place later. I gotta play. I probably more issued a bond for me to bond may be the one who he may be. He may be the only guy capable of going to shortstop because you really gonna trust a guy named Donny barrels to go play with the glove shortstop right now, after all the years he made last season, So what you're telling me is with these burning questions. I've got no answers about burning. That's the issue. This is this is back to your home. Which light up this better. We like it so funny, I think last year we spent all if we were doing this podcast one year ago today on February 11th 2020. And by the way, what? We had no idea what was coming, right? Yeah, no idea. Not only that, Not only the covert 19 pandemic was coming, but the Darren rough exist. Turn Dr Existence by the way we were looking at, like, Yo yo. Omar Sanchez will be out there at second for the Giants. Billy Hamilton Center. Exactly. So, the burning questions in February much different than the burning questions at the end of march, right?.

"See all of us, and I think we're gonna learn. I do believe it'll be much lower this year that it was under Bruce Bochy is the Giants lineup better? I think not having for not having the ability to put Wilmer Flores out. There is an extra bad not having a guy to put have the ability to put Darren rough necessarily out there because Alex Dickerson probably going to start left and that comes back to my left fielder situation with you is if he was the opening day left fielder last year, and if They have a right handed starter for Seattle on opening day. You should see Alex Dickerson in left field, right? Who's the Mariners? Ace to the Mariners Have an ace? Who's on the Mariners. That's a very question like Is this strange? Gordon still up there? No, he actually just kind of minor league deal with the Reds. Ken Griffey, Griffey's You and you're doing Martinez bread, but nothing to write home about, You know, the greatest single season team of all time. Nothingto write home about anyway, when it comes to the success of this lineup, I really do think the right handed hitting line up against the left handed pitching is going to be the team with the most success. Donovan Solano. What we saw from him last year is gonna be huge. Brandon Belt was awful against left handed pitching last year didn't see a bunch of it. But under I think was under 1 30 against lefties. So I'm or intrigued by the guys that were brought in last year that we saw success from Mikey, as is going to be out there against lefties and righties. I really like the idea of Darren Rough playing some first base. Against lefties and getting a chance to hit. Maybe you put a guy like like Wilmer Flores over a third. He may be the only guy capable of going to shortstop because you really gonna trust a guy named Donny barrels to go play with the glove shortstop right now, after all the years he made last season. So what you're telling me is what these burning questions I've got No answers about that burning issue. This is this is back to your home. Which light up this better. We like it so funny, I think last year we spent all if we were doing this podcast one year ago today on February 11th, 2000 and 20. And by the way, what? We had no idea what was coming, right? Yeah, no idea. Not only that Not only the covert 19 pandemic was coming, but the Darren rough exist during rough existed by the way we were looking at, like, Yo yo Omar Sanchez will be out there and second for the Giants Billy Hamilton Center. Exactly So the burning questions in February much different than the burning questions at the end of March, right? Yeah, I will say though I'm gonna counter you, and I think that the line up against right handed pitchers will actually be better because Tommy list l, a brain a belt, Mikey Stransky and Alex Dickerson those air for patient hitters. Those are guys who really complement each other. Well, I think that you know the phrase that the sum is greater than the whole of its parts. I think that is particularly true with that group getting with Stella in there. He's what you know gonna hit 2 70 to 80. Probably an O. P s around 7 50. You're not gonna get anything spectacular, but you will see the residual effect of his at bats and his plate appearances further down in the line of I think he just makes everyone else better. And so that's why I take the writers over the lefties. I think that's a really interesting proposition. And I think the power's definitely bigger with the left handed hitting lineup versus right handed pitching. I also do think Gabe Kapler will have an easier time transitioning toe left handed bullpen arms who come in to face That line up late in the game or in the middle of the game, because you'll have the ability to go to Austin Slater to go to Darren Rough to go to Don Solano off the bench. And if you've got those three guys to step in for your time, it was Stella's and you're Brandon Belts are probably not Mike, you scram ski. But if you plug in some of those guys, maybe Dickerson to face a lefty in that situation, Think of Ah, I don't know. In the past, you might seem like a Jake McGee coming in for the Dodgers to see that line up late now, Of course, he's a giant. But if you can plug in some of those guys to face the left handed pitcher, I think waiting the game your your ability to mix and match. Pretty good. I don't have the same confidence with the bench coming in against a right handed hitter late in the game versus a lefty. Yeah, I'm with you on that. So let's move on to our third pressing question. And this is something that I was doing Research for a story yesterday and I was counting all the losing seasons the Giants have had in their history and I was thinking, OK, When's the last time they've lost? You know they've gone under 505 straight years. So I start going back that that period from like 2006 to 2009 or whatever, you know it wasn't great, I think was 5 4000. That's right. That was four consecutive losing once and then I start to go back. You know, they have four consecutive losing seasons in in the seventies or eighties. There. Then you go back to the New York Giants three losing seasons here, the New York Jax were dominant for a long period of time. People forget don't sleep on the 1906 to 1910 New York giants Christy Mathewson. Was was incredible. But then you go back to the New York Gotham's, which was the team before The New York Times They still have not lost..

"What are your expectations for the offensive production? So I don't know if he's gonna be like Is it gonna be Steph Curry fresh because he's had this time off, or is he gonna be that hip is just is just still not what it used to be. You know what I mean? I'm really Yeah, I'm really fascinated because I believe it was. He is that type of a hitter. He is that type of knowledge plate discipline. Ability to go the other way work with what pictures are giving him and he just wasn't healthy enough in 2017 2018 2019 to really do much damage And now that he will have this year and a half off in between serious baseball competition that's putting stress on his body. Will he return to that level? Where you know he is a 300 hitter? He is a 3 10 guy. We know he's not gonna hit 20 home runs. That's just not happening. He probably won't play enough to hit 20 home runs. Will he catch 100 games? Well, it'll only be 81 games. How quickly will Joey Bart working the next I'm really fascinated. "And it was OK. Everything is going to start on time. So I buy my flight for you know the weekend before pitchers and catchers you're supposed to report because when pitchers and catchers report Writers get access to the ballpark. We get in there. We're all set to go. And then you find out that maybe they push spring training back and I'm thinking, Oh, maybe I'll have to push my flight back. I don't really have a hotel yet, So we'll figure this out that I find out that okay. It's all starting on time. But writers actually aren't let in for an extra week this year. So the first day that I can be at Scottsdale Stadium isn't until February, 22nd. For the Giants. First team workout Today is February 11. So I am going down there. I might just come back. I might come back after the weekend, and we will see, you know, may can't spend enough time in Scottsdale and so we'll see. We'll see. I don't have my hotel reservation starting. So, as you know, I went to Arizona State living off a few friends couches for the week. And reporting on baseball from the Scottsdale area is kind of my story right now. It sounds to me like this is not this is not a work trip. It sounds to me like you're cruising down may have a feeling that this is a work trip. This is the work grinding away. When you get there I will be. I will be. I got a ton of interview scheduled. All I needed just borrow a friend's wife. I said, Well, let's see if we can get some answers because you said to me that there's so many questions around this team, and there are and you know, baseball prospectus puts out there thing with You know what you project the Giants defense. Shit. I think they had him it at like, 76 wins or something. And yes, I've seen 74 75 76. I have not seen anything in the eighties. So far by the way, can I Can I just make a statement quickly here, and that's the 76 or 77 Win team is the most frustrating team in baseball to work like the 2000. I don't know. Can I offer you like a 2008 San Francisco giants like You mean my favorite San Francisco giants of all time, or, you know, come on Jorge Castillo and third base. And And so it was one Benji Molina was hitting his prime. Yeah. Big money in little money, And I want to say problem may have come up the next year, you know, nine Hotness. Yes, Yes, I think so. He may have been end of 2008 and had too many at bats to win Rookie of the year in 2009, because he would have been that guy that year. Can I offer you like a Ryan rolling? Or maybe making a appearance? By the way? That was Brian Bo Cock? The starting shortstop that might have been the year of the Brian Bo Cock was the starting shortstop Kevin Franzen gets hurt in spring training on Marva scale was hurt in spring training, and so they go to the singlet. Shortstop at but you know what came out of that? Oh, a team and in my memory, 08. No. Nine was big for pieces that led to the bullpen run for the World Championships. Sergio Romo. They had to find Guillermo Mota was a guy They brought over in, like, Oh, wait or 09. Danny Santana was around. So serious mottoes is your remember. You're remembering some guy's better than how about how about Alex Hinshaw? That's a lefty. That's a guy who I loved him. So I had that bugs Bunny curveball anyway, dude, lots of questions around this team who's gonna be the closer Whose baton against Who? In which line up to you. You came up with syriza of kind of like mailbag questions right about about what we should be focused on for this year. Yeah, I've been focused on this writing for the Bay Area News group this week. Bunch of different giants topics that were thrown out there to fans getting their reaction and I want to ask you some of the most burning ones and, of course. The most important place to start when Farhaan Side, he said that the biggest offseason acquisition for the Giants was not actually any players that they've signed or traded for, but his Buster Posey That leads to the question. What can the Giants realistically expect from Buster Posey after he will go 550 days between starts if he starts on opening day for San Francisco. See, this is Ah, That's probably the biggest question period and not so much so, like. I don't even think that's the biggest question like like relevant to success for the Giants, But I do think, if poses good or opposes the Posey. We were used to seeing for so many years. Obviously, the Giants are in a much better situation. I think the better question is like What are they looking for? Like you can have your expectations for like we need him to to put up these numbers. But what does he need to do to help this team be successful. He's gonna play Gold Glove defense. It's just what he does behind the plate. I don't know how much run he's gonna get it First. There's a lot of right handed bats. There's there's no reason for Buster Posey's to pick up the first base and spent this year. No reason whatsoever. So the question I have is, Does he end up in a situation like we're watching Warrior basketball right now? Second warrior reference of the pot by the way today, Steph Curry looks like he's more fresh than we've ever seen. For that stretch of years, he comes up in 09 sure, at the end within 2010 in May deep into the postseason, when the World Series 12 the exact same thing, 14 the same thing, 16 the same thing into the playoffs. All of those times. I think you said this last week outside of the Grand Slam off from that way toast. There's not a whole lot of offensive Colin cards for Buster Posey in the playoffs, So it's all about how he handles the staff how he handles the defense that he calls pitches and maybe unrivaled by anybody in the game today, outside of Yadi Molina in ST Louis Buster is the best catcher of this generation. So for me, it's about where he's hitting in the lineup. What are your expectations for the offensive production? So I don't know if he's gonna be like Is it gonna be Steph Curry fresh because he's had this time off, or is he gonna be that hip is just is just still not what it used to be. You know what I mean? "Moments in baseball history that Mikey Stransky spent six years in the bigs was about to get sent back down by the Giants in his first year and then just took off. Then he goes in. He hits a home run and his grandfather's ballpark just one of the coolest moments in baseball history. Was that Mikey Stransky home run against the Red Sox, and then it was like a really weird game. Right then it went like 14 innings, and it was much like nobody pictures out there, but she's getting his $2000. Just just it was our series out of Fenway Park. It Murphy back. We're out there, too, Which is funny, anyway, Mikey strips You get to name to the all second MLB team, which pretty spectacular for this guy. He's a fan favorite and just running through some of his rankings where he stands in the pantheon of outfielders this year. Among MLB outfielders. Was behind on Lee Mookie Betts. As far as wins above replacement. So if you like the war, stat he look, he was the only outfielder in baseball above UMA Mikey Stransky. He was 16 0 P s a 9 68 0 P s last year. Thank you, Jake For Mikey Stransky hey was eighth and run scored. 39 Hey, was 12 in the bigs in R B. I's with 35. He had to 97 with 10 homers and 54 games. Hell of a season for my describes key only thing I could think about while I was looking at this list was all right, DJ. What Mayhew is your second basement on the All first team was like, Where's my guy? Donnie barrels. Was Don Solano. He's not gonna get any love Scott here like 3 26 last year and then I looked in its branded allow of the Tampa Bay Rays is the all second team second basement. I was like, really Brand allowed to do You have that big of a year that I looked, and I was like a big deal. We had to 69 dude, Brandon Lau, you bring allow it. 14 home runs in like 54 games. Where in the hell to the Tampa Bay Rays. Find these guys, man. By the way, the year before he played like 80 games, he had 17 bombs. Brandon allow this guy's starting a monster for Tampa Bay anyway. Don Solano was was nominated like he was on the list. Or he was Ah, finalist or nominee but did not get in the list. Also, Brandon Belt just missed out on getting in real quick. The second team J. T Realmuto, Jose Hombre you, Brandon, allow Corey Seager of the Dodgers. Jose Ramirez. So the other two outfielders. This is kind of cool. Michael Conforto, Who's the stud for the Mets, and then Ronald Jr Jr. So Mike, his friends key right up there with Veronica. In your junior. He's like seven years older than he is, but still pretty cool to have another eight years older, right? I think it's cramps came out. It just turned out to just turn 30 anyway. Um conforto Nelson Cruz is the DHD Nelson lament of the Padres. Garrett Cole. Clayton Kershaw came to my aid to he engine re you Brad Hand and Devin Williams. The thing that stands out to me on this list is how many of these guys had at one point Or are currently l A Dodgers? Dude, That's crazy, Right? That's crazy. Yu Darvish was on that list of the first team. He was a Dodger for a minute, reusable. Ooh, Jay. He was a Dodger came to my Ada is a twin. He was a Dodger. I mean, this thing is Yeah, Thank you. Thank you, Dave. Skin real frustrating..

"And you know, when the Giants won three world Syria's there were times where you could look at that Dodger roster and say this roster is pretty damn good. You know what I mean? The Dodgers have had their run a little bit before they were getting eliminated by the Phillies and 08 No. Nine and well, I guess and they eliminated by the Phillies at one of those years. The Matt stairs years here I'm thinking about, but I don't know that you could look at it like that. At some point. I keep expecting at some point the Dodgers to run out of money, but it was like that happening any time soon. Like their budget keeps going up and up and up there. They're talking about trading for Nolan Arenado. Just keep my fingers crossed. That does not happen. If that happens, I mean, Boy, If that happens, we're looking around. Kind of like like the NBA world looked at the Warriors when we got Kevin Durant, like Are you blanking me? Dude, is this serious that they get that they made a trade for this guy only hope is that you could get their system. But it seems like no matter what the Dodgers just have a next guy up the tab, another top prospect they could bring up so grow up and they may be looking to move Gavin locks assed part of something big like that their top Infield prospect. So one more here from far on because I think I think a lot of the focus is off. Season's gonna be on pitching. They proved they could put together a little bit of an office last year. So the idea of the rotation this year we know Logan Webb's gonna be in it. There's some guys coming back from injury. We know Johnny Cueto was back. We know Kevin Gausman's back at the top, but as far as positions three through five and the rotation for on do you have an idea about where you might go? You know, we're gonna have Tyler Beatty coming back, which were excited about. I mean, he was showing some real top of the rotation potential in free trading one point before he unfortunately got her. His reacts going well. Logan Webb's gonna have to be a guy who can eat up starts for us. And he had some growing pains this year. But, you know, on the whole also showed a lot of reasons to be excited, and you're right. I mean, beyond that, we're going to be active in the trade market creation market. Looking to solidify the rotation. I mean, it's nice to have Cueto and Gausman at the front of the rotation, but we're going to continue to be active looking. Ah, fill out our starting pitching depth chart. We probably need multiple guys to be able to get through 162 game season. Yeah, you're gonna need a didn't need pitching depth, and I think the Giants last year That was a lot of what they did. I felt like it. They're extended site and with getting guys up here, you're some of the guys who they didn't bring back to Rico. Garcia's and guys like that, But I think Tyler Anderson could still be a peace. They've just not tendered him. That contract as far as arbitration goes, but they could still reach an agreement with him here in free agency, And maybe that's That's part of their plan. They wanted to see him get healthy. Last year, they invested a little bit in him just to sort of. Ah, buy low and maybe he explodes like Kevin Gossman did. And now maybe they like to reach an agreement, But the rotation certainly gonna be a big part of this offseason. Somebody Texan here on the Cache Creek text line five window when that texture said, are the Giants better than the Dodgers at any position. $5 a second base is better than the Then the Dodgers. So Dr Center, they have sort of a rotating in field. They moved as around a bunch. That's months. He placed second for them Sometimes. Kiki Hernandez plays second for them, but I'll roll with my guy, Donnie barrels. I like Donny bats at second man. I'll take my die on his any singles in his dump. Donny, this guy does his hit man. I'm glad to bring him back, and I'm glad that they've David least tender to may, a contract so that they can reach in arbitration agreement. "You're KNBR half past headline Sports sports. I'm Adam Coping these your half past headlines for Friday, November 6th, 2000 and 20 yesterday, Major League Baseball while you were watching football in election coverage, announced that they've given out their Silver Slugger awards, and Donovan Solano, second baseman of the San Francisco Giants, has won it at second for the National League. Pretty fun stuff. Good season for Donnie Barrels takes on his first. Silver Slugger Award and some news out of the NFL. The Las Vegas Raiders have been fined. $500,000 coach Jon Gruden has been fined yet again, and they've been stripped of 1/6 round draft pick in 2021 following their lack of cooperation with NFL's Covic protocols. They're saying it is a repeat offense after offensive lineman friend Brown has had to go back on the cove it list following his positive test. Just a couple of weeks ago. The NFL taking this stuff very seriously, and the N BA has approved by their players association a start date for the embassies in December. 22nd. They're gonna get going, Which means NBC stuff is going to be fast and furious for the next few weeks, the NBA draft free agency in training camp coming up in the next six weeks before basketball gets going. Does your half past headlines. The fearless Friday football forecast is next on the sports leader, yard presents. Mervyn Max. Right football for Polly. What? You know, it's like you wake up, and you're like the Niners got crushed. The Niners were down 30 43. There's really nothing to look forward to. In the world of football. That's not so fast except riding in like the cavalry right Friday. Fearless, fabulous, actually. Remember? Don't bump up here comes the Friday football forecast. Can No, I like that. I have to tell you this. You know who you know what band plays that at the end of every third quarter and I have to say they can't. They can't rip it. I have to guess you SC SC? Yeah, See the third corner. They play the William Tell Overture, but and it's It's pretty good. Pretty good way We played so well, me right into position for the Friday football for you know, Listen, you know, in fairness SC band we gotta give it up. Holy, don't forget their role in the hugely underrated Funky and kind of catchy Fleetwood Mac, tune us. Go ahead and defend Tusk. I remember him saying, Yeah, when Tusk hit the scene, it was still during my K Farsi days before my family moved east and I remember, just say brass do that's probably when I first fell in love with a big horn section like back. Bye Bye Bye Bye Bye. Bye bye. That sounds off to give it up. There's the cavalry, Diego. Thank you comes here we come. Yeah. This is s e at the end of the third quarter. Come on, let me hear you, like inspire your horse. Murph. What do you say in your horse? You want to do this when you go home? Suva? Yeah, your hopes you're such an old soul. You strike me as a guy who even is familiar with the old black and white Lone Ranger. Chance. What was going through your injured TV show high host chemo, Sabi.

"Cause for celebration. Mikey Stransky is the most valuable player in the National League right now. The Giants or three and four. They had an opportunity to go above 500 on Thursday evening, botch it in the 10th inning. But Mike extreme ski Has reached base in 10 of his last 14 plate appearances. Guy hit two home runs in Wednesday night's victory reach based four times on Thursday night, and he's showing no signs of slowing down. He is not the best defensive outfielder on the team. But on Thursday night, Gabe Kapler gave him the stark in center field. Why Because you have to respect. What is Trump's he's doing is what Catholics said So Stephen Dugger. A better defensive outfielder went out to right field in his 2020 season debut. While you strip ski played the middle of the outfield. Hit the top of the order and continued To be the Giants best player. Through seven games. Now, Mike is Trump's Kia for 23 batting average. Ah, 13 39 0 P S And that barely edges out his teammate Donovan Solano. Who's checking in with a 13 26 0 P s and a 500 batting average. Now, Donnie barrels and Mikey Stransky Farhaan Zaidi's finds. Are carrying this giant's club right now. You look at the team's performance so far this season..

"Rattled and I didn't and I should do it. I'm just I'm not trying to put put a hoax or a hex on him. I'm just trying to say I've seen this before. I hear he's a seven year minor leaguer. Let's hope he can write Pete and I have no problem. The reason I laid it out this morning. Murph is he's the best player on the team. No question question. This guy's the best player on the Giants easily easily. Unless unless unless Solano, and that's the growing growing Probably the growing love for a Donnie barrels as they're calling them, Donny parents and I don't want you all to to sleep on a date. Neither do the dick you needed got started. You know, 60 to a solo. Okay, this giant's club with what we expect out of them and the energy and in front of cardboard cut outs, and it's 6 to 2 on Wednesday night, Dude with Dick. It's a solo shot. You're like Yeah, Whatever. You know. That was my reaction. Yes. Yeah. You know what it was? It was the Larry David gift. We're like, Yeah. Okay. All right. Way to go, dick, but they're not going to change tonight with a nice three on, you know, you know what, guys? Honestly, you know, it might have been the end. I'm surprised Capital didn't given extended to riff on this, but I don't know. And I don't know the last time I saw that the Tyler Anderson dual pickoffs in the eighth inning change the entire game. They probably went back in the dugout. They're like T a member. I actually never tell Paula that anecdote, coves and we never came to the air. We never you did. We did. We just never dug it up. You did bring it. We're going to run and I was listening over the weekend. Friday night when the Giants were in where they were Friday. We play the digestive here. The doctors thank you very much. Oh, and I I was driving Polly back from the taqueria. Right? Right, Carnitas. Of course. You got a car full of car needed your hijacking it up and down the 101 talk about feeling dangerous duties Here. Here, run in car Needa stewed late at night, maybe as quick as capital ran out to pull Johnny Cueto but was driving back and it was, but it was the pregame Kappler with with John Miller. If you remember that game, they only announced Tyler Anderson like an hour before the game or whatever it was like, and we're at that point. We're like one of the Giants. Doing them starting rotation, like all the good teams get ready. I'm coming. I'm coming one on south. I'm getting off the exit, and I hear Kapler's say, John Miller. Go. So tonight's starter is Tyler Anderson. Tell us about him and cameras. Yeah, we'll give you feel good about it. You know, we feel like he could. He could support presented, And then he just drops this year because we feel good. We think Ta Khun give us two plus today. Well, like Sandy said of this stoplight, just pounding my head on the steering wheel going Ta. It wants to cluster picture, Dude, you know, we think Ta King able to flow here's the Here's the other problem with Colin a guy Ta. You really shouldn't be doing that out of respect to the Realty A because there is a legendary figure known as Ta, who revolutionized his sport. Ladies and gentlemen. Tony Alva. Come on down, known on the streets as T A. So Who's that? Now? Is that skateboarding or well? Yeah, yeah, he's a r. J was like the first guy to go airborne, like on his board like that can probably skate with that Japanese kid. I showed you Yes, he can. Actually Tony Alva so good. He actually make that guy look bad, Believe it or not, But Tony, it was like he was the first guy that liked to you. Maybe that's where capital because capital actually put out a tweet over the weekend copes juicy supporting those vans, Cleats reds and wore a red. He's a red. I'm sorry. The vans were set at Rico's memories of skate parks of my youth support Lorenzo. No better than if he knows the skating, you should know is Tony Alvis? Alright? Give us two it, but anyway, the Anderson pickoffs were huge. But Solano's three run homer that was bonkers like Giants don't hit three run! Homer Ferarri runs in two. So that Smurf this brings me back. And this was a threat that I think I was talking about earlier and I think maybe we continue it The three run home run is the most epistle within in base. Heard you say that I was pumping my fist because because you do you know the part I got here's what I know was going on. Q B one. Lucas is sitting there and at home at his house watching the positive and he's cool. He's going. He's going 63 John Solano's a pro, two outs two hours right now in the eighth. No big deal, Man. This thing's over. He's he's looking ahead to the Dodgers next week. Good. Now I have more time to crop my beauties going. You just got a shaving.
