"For. That's what I spend my time thinking about it is how to help everyday folks live their dreams. And that was representative Patrick mchenry, Republican from North Carolina, with Bloomberg quick takes, medicine, mills. Now, Denise you know, there's a new $17 million fund focused on demographic change. We're talking about cake ventures. And Monique woodard is founder and managing director there. So she explains here what cake is up to and how the fund got to this point to Bloomberg's ad ludlow and Caroline Hyde. Cake ventures is focused on big technological changes combined with demographic shifts. And we back and invest capital into companies that touch areas of demographic change, including aging and longevity, increased spending power of women, and the rise of a new majority. Talk to us about the rise of a new majority because I think that's a really fascinating shift. Just sort of talking about tech adopters who are coming from, well, minority led areas, particularly more the people of color, Asian communities that are building something culturally as well as financially really. Correct. These three groups, Asian black and Latinos, have an increasing influence on Internet culture. Increasing their spending power. And I think for kick ventures, that means that this is an area that we want to invest in and invest in quite early. Congratulations is really interesting to speak to a new name in the world of venture capital. We've been talking to founders week pretty much about how difficult it's been to raise money for those startups in this environment. And I kind of want to put the same question to you. Who are your LPs? Where did the money come from? And how hard was it for you to get this vehicle finalized? Well, we have great LPs like pivotal ventures and Melinda French Gates company, Bank of America, San Donna, capital, foundry group, fund of funds like that. And we are in a really challenging time for entrepreneurs and for emerging fund managers. I won't deny that. But

"I'm Ed Baxter. And underneath Pellegrini, Ed, as we watch it events down in Washington, and is a new Congress takes power. Bloomberg has identified ten lawmakers to watch this year. Yeah, and one of them is representative Patrick mchenry, Republican from North Carolina. He's got this big passion for crypto Ed, and it has somehow stayed intact. Even following the collapse of FTX and the fraud charges against Sam bankman fried. So here is mchenry with Bloomberg quick takes Madison mills. Tell me your biggest reaction so far to the FTX hearing. What's been most surprising to you? The biggest takeaway was you had a fraudster who was a pretender. He was a pretender to the technology. And he was taking a, what is in its core an open permissionless exchange of value. And making it opaque. But if he was able to disrupt the transparency of something like you said, that was created for transparency, does it beg the question of is he a bad actor? Or is the system bad? No, he was taking advantage of a lack of clarity and regulation. We have to understand in the U.S. is that we do have an open digital border. And new products will emerge. And if we don't have a regulatory regime and a rule of law that is enforced around this new technology, we're going to have our consumers fall victim to the worst actors globally. At the same time not have the innovation developed here at home. Do you think that the SEC, for example, can copy paste securities regulations that are already existent over to crypto? Or does it need to rewrite the rules? Not perfectly. And that's what we have to get to the bottom of. What is a commodity? What is a security? Congress has to make that decision. If you had a regime by which existing institutions could in an economic way, hold digital assets for customers, consumers would be less impacted by the FTX collapse. And some crypto consumers are concerned that more regulation could impact their asset holdings even more. What is your message to them? What we want are clear rules of the road. That doesn't necessarily mean more or less regulation. It is clear property rights to what is your asset. And the means by which you hold it. And that's not more or less regulation. It's smart regulation rather than dumb regulation. That's really what I'm fighting for. Smart regulation. And in terms of your work as a lawmaker, is there a certain policy that you wish you could spend more time on? I wish I could spend more time on financial inclusion. My father started a small business in our backyard. It was first piece of equipment was a lawn mower, a second piece of equipment was a truck. It was about his ability to put 5 kids through school. And that was his dream. Your ability to go take an idea and go see if it works. And it could be a bakery, could be a coffee shop, or it could be the next generation of technology. All these things need to be possible in a vibrant American economy. I mean, that's what I'm fighting for. That's what I spend my time thinking about is how to help everyday folks live their dreams. And that was representative Patrick mchenry, Republican from North Carolina, with Bloomberg quick takes, medicine, mills. You know, there's a new $17 million fund focused on demographic change. Correct. These three groups, Asian black and Latinos have an increasing influence on Internet culture. Increasing their spending power. And I think for kick ventures, that means that this is an area that we want to invest in and invest in quite early. Hey Mani, congratulations. It's really interesting to speak to a new name in the world of venture capital. But if you are building, there's never been a better time to be building something game changing in technology. And the capital is out there, but it is a difficult time and will continue to be a difficult time over the next several months, several months to a year for people starting new companies. I'm also really interested in you as well. I'm reading that you guys are going to kind of cut $500,000 checks, that kind of increment. How are you going to do business? Are you going to go out there and have one on ones with these founders? Are you inviting pitches and pitch decks to come into you? I just want to know how it works, essentially. So I've already invested in 12 companies out of this portfolio. A long time, venture capitalists, I was at 500 startups before, as a VC, and also was a scout at light speed. And so I have a really great deep network of people in venture who know me, know my investing thesis and track record. And who I can work with and collaborate with in order to do great deals. Now, I also go out and hunt for deals, which is one of my favorite things to do is finding new undiscovered founders building something that fits into the three layers of the cake. And that's really exciting for me. All these founders based more often than not money. So although I'm based in San Francisco, 66% of the companies that I've invested in so far have been outside of quote unquote Silicon Valley, San Francisco Bay Area. And that's something that will continue to press on. You know, I think that great innovation comes from many different places. And we're excited to invest in places that are outside of Silicon Valley, as well as companies that originate from right here. And let's dig in a little bit more to those layers that I so love you talking about, but thinking about the way in which you're looking at demographic changes, longevity, and they're like, what companies are there for you back? What are the sort of problems ultimately they're trying to fix? One of my companies is called guaranteed and they are using technology to change end of life and hospice care that fits into the aging and longevity layer of the cake. We're super excited to back that company. I've also invested in a company called pamper, which focuses on nails and nail art that fits into the women layer of the cake. And we're excited to continue filling out the layers of the cake with amazing companies building not only consumer products, but also building in the business to business and enterprise space. One of the things I'm always fascinated by when we have VCs on, I guess it's not just as simple as you handing over the money right. And I guess when you launch a thematic fund, my question to you is what other help do you offer these founders? What is it your pitch to them on why they should partner with you? Why they should take your check over somebody else's. So I built cakes own the white space around demographic change because demographic change is what is going to

"In the East 70 Sixers taking on the Wizards 97.5. The fanatic takes us to the third, such as Donna Capital, One Arena and it be download with right hand chair.
