The Aldi Haul Episode
"Hey everyone, it's me Lisa. Lillian also known as hungry girl. It's good to be here for another episode of the Hungry Girl Podcast Aka to the right thing today I am very excited because we are doing another hall I love. I'm getting used to these halls where I I go shopping and then I drop things at your house guys, do you? Do you love it? It's the best you're better than INSTA- cart because you actually come up with things that we didn't even know we wanted. I'm better than INSTA- cart because I don't try to replace whole wheat flour with cocoa puffs, which is what they? Feel bad, though this is like instant art, we're not tipping her. Yeah and O F Y I paid for everything. So then there's also. Today this week I went to all D. do you say all your algae? I say aldy all. He's doing a halfway thing all it also works out better, because then it's a hall. Aldy Hall Haldi your exactly. That is what we are doing today. It's all the hall. And I had never actually set foot in an all deep before last week. When I went shopping, and it was interesting, it's like I had heard about it. I know it's like a sister store to trader Joe's I did not know what to expect. I know Mikey. You warned me you said. Bring a quarter which I. Forgot to do so I had to. Find a way to get a quarter to get a card because you need to like, give a quarter deposit to get a cart, and I think a lot of the people were confused because they were like. Do I have to pay for a car? And then the woman that worked there was like yes, but I was like. No, you get it back I was butting in anyway. The store itself was interesting. It's like a smart and final meets like a dollar tree. Is that a? Is that a fair assessment? It is, but I feel like well. Certain file has good. I mean the quality's just exceptional of why smartandfinal. No of the products that all D. O. Dollar Tree? I don't think I've high value well I. Mean I don't think high quality. Okay I think that may be a misperception, because like a lot of the stuff at the dollar store believe or not there like all of your favorite companies make specific products that are dollar store versions of that product. I understand you're saying it's. Option. But you know what made to me. All feel a little cheap and I'm going to say this. It's like when you go to trader Joe's. You feel like there are magical trader, Joe's ferries, making your magical traderjoes in all the concoctions, and all their cute names, and at all de everything looks like the brand you think it is, and it's just slightly off like one of the problems we have today. It's fiber now. Instead of five one show like fiber one brand new. Walk down the aisles and you're like wait. Is that no those race? Christie no and everything looks almost a little like it. which to me makes it feel cheap well. Yeah, I know what you mean like. That's specialness of trader. Joe's like the innovators in creating, and this is just kind of like. They had someone draw something from memory and put it on the box. Yes, but that being said I do I agree I think the quality of. Of the stuff at least the last time we tried, it was phenomenal. I have very high hopes for a lot of these products. When I was shopping I, was searching for things that people told US existed at all that I should find I didn't find many of those, but I found a lot of other things that I thought were intriguing in their own right for specific reasons like we. We'll get into it and I'm excited about that, but. Before we do. What are you have Mike any news. This is pretty cool. Duncan is selling donut inspired facemasks. Okay, so three dollars of every facemask is going to go to a charity to help support health and Hungary leave for children and underserved communities, the master, only ten bucks each, and so three of that goes to charity. I sent you a picture lease. I don't know if you saw them, but the pretty cool looking. And can also share a of them on the page or and the link to buy them where you can go to shop Dunkin Dot Com. Yeah, they're really cute. They're so cute like they're the pink and Orange Dunkin colors, and they look like half doughnuts with sprinkles I think they're adorable. They just need a little slit in the middle, so you could actually eat your doughnut while wearing the math. If you're interested in these act fast because there are four different prints and one of them's already sold out. And, actually the the least exciting one the logo. Yeah Yeah I don't want that can donis employ. Dunkin donuts employees about those probably. Ones with the with the half donuts on them or the sprinkles.

Can India and Pakistan step back from the brink?
"Today. We're looking at the crisis in relations between India and Pakistan and the threat of war. Joining me on the line from Delhi bureau chief there, Amy Kasmin and on the line from his Bob is Pakistan correspondent for Honda Kerry. And I'd like to start by asking you both the obvious question. How high is the risk that this round of tit-for-tat retaliation started with a terrorist bombing in Kashmir then strikes by India, then Pakistan shooting down an Indian pilot, how high is the risk this escalates into an actual war. Amy. I I think we're at a very crucial juncture in this fast evolving situation here, and I think that the risks of esscalation are quite high. Basically India carried out this strike on Tuesday, which it described as an attack on a terror camp. A preemptive strike designed to prevent future attacks and in its response to what Pakistan is done today. It is accused Pakistan of bombing Indian military installations along the line of control. So both sides are really testing the limits of how far can they push each other without going over the line and who will back down. I and there is a lot of risk of miscalculation of this. I think if the situation is very dangerous some people suggest there is a possibility for de-escalation. The fact that Pucca STAN now has an Indian air force wing commander in its custody gives it something of a bargaining chip. It also gives India an incentive to be careful about what it does in response. But it's a really really unpredictable situation and really quite dangerous because it must be remembered that both countries have nuclear weapons and. Really, everyone is sort of braced to try to understand is this going to escalate or are both sides going to say, okay. We did this to you. You did this to us. Let's have some back channel diplomacy and tried to defuse the situation which could involve maybe housing back the Indian pilot to India and that could provide a path to de-escalation, but it's far from certain in the south. What's going to happen sitting in his Lama fat? What's the risks of esscalation? Look like in several conversations that I've had with western diplomats, Pakistani. Officials members of prime Minister Brown Kan's cabinet, lots of people have said logically speaking to nuclear armed countries cannot go to war, but I think people ignore the possibility of something quite accidental happening without necessarily intend one incident leading to another leading to a third. One. And before we know it it's a bigger escalation, I think that is really the danger, and this must suggest to people outside this part of the world's Berkeley that eventually interacting pas are going to intervene or some other development is going to sway both India and Pakistan back from the brink. But I think it's really the accidental occurrence of some kind which is the big risk show. I mean, Amy Fajon refers to them going to the brink. And so maybe people in the outside world thinking, well, they wouldn't go over at surely. And that's partly done eating because there is a record of India, Pakistan conflict. So I believe that been three depending how you want to classify maybe four walls between the two countries since independence in the late nineteen forties. That right. I mean harmed rightly said that logically. Nobody really has an incentive to keep escalating and logically. They should want to try to defuse to nuclear. Arm-power should want to defuse this kind of tension and not necessarily see it escalates and potentially escalate out of control, but I'm afraid that when it comes to India, Pakistan relations logic isn't necessarily the overriding factor at work. This is a relationship that is absolutely frauds and in which passions run exceedingly high. They think back literally to the birth of the two countries as two separate independent nations back in nineteen forty seven when the British colonial rulers left and partition the subcontinent into these two states, and there has been bitterness and resentment between these two countries almost ever since. And as you rightly point out there have been three declared wars and one undeclared war mostly over the province of jumbo who in Kashmir a very beautiful region. A mountainous region. Jn Muslim-majority region, which basically both countries want as their own and claim as their own and the position has been that. In fact, this region is now effectively partitioned between the two countries with this kind of line of control acting as a defacto border, and which has been for decades, also Pakistan blames India for supporting the independence of Bangaladesh's, which until nineteen seventy-one was actually parts of Pakistan, but people in Bangladesh revolted against the Pakistani government in this llama Bod, they're of a different ethnic and language group. And they wanted their own nation state based on their language, and they successfully fought and became bungalow dash and India supported the bungalow that she independence movement and Pakistan still has very bitter feelings about the way that their country was split. So there is this incredible history of. Of deep passion and bad blood. And of course, India has suffered greatly due to terrorist attacks over the last couple of decades, including two thousand and one attack on the Indian parliament, the two thousand eight Mumbai terror attacks on two five star hotels and the main train station in India's financial capital, and these attacks have always been blamed, and in some cases, there's very concrete evidence that they were carried out by pockets Donis with the apparent support of the puck is military. They were Pakistan terror groups acting as proxies. So in this relationship passions, run very very high, which is why logic isn't necessarily the best guides. What will happen? Obviously Amy refers to the persistent allegations that puck STAN has been behind terror attacks in India ROY in Indian Kashmir as well. And particularly this latest suicide attack web will forty people killed how much do you think we know about that? And how much does Imran calm though. The current prime minister is he in control of the kinds of groups in Pakistan that might be funding supporting instigating

"So the reason I'm calling is to reiterate how crucial bees are to not only our wellbeing, but also all our economy. If if it weren't for bees, we would not have wild blueberries at all. So not only would the the ecological of services of this area be negatively impacted. But the economy of our entire Donis region would be negatively impacted because one of the main moneymakers for this region is wild, blueberries. So with with the advent of the problems with colony collapse disorder in recent years. Native pollinators have become so much more important, and I want to encourage people to do things to attract native pollinators to their to their properties. And if you don't mind like a plug, if that's okay, you'd like a plug. What do you mean? I'd like the plug the university of Mainz. Sorry, you can plug the university of. I'm also glad Jennifer that you plugged main blueberries. I love the mum going to be coming up there in a couple of weeks, so save some for me and and thank you for the call, but tour. Jennifer makes a great point about the the crucial role that these pollinators play in so many plants and flowers and foods. And you've touched on that earlier in this hour, but what do we lose if we lose bees, we lose so much. Well, we lose a great deal, of course, in our natural habitats as well. But it really is very striking when you Zam and. The diversity of crops that bees are involved with. We often use that statistic. Every third bite of food is reliant upon bees in some way, but it's even more informative to parse the numbers differently and look at our top one hundred and fifteen food crops, and you find that seventy five percent of them either rely upon or benefit from bee pollination. So they really do provide us with a great economic service and a great dietary service in terms of nutrition and the sheer variety of foods that are available to us. We're talking with Torah Hansen. He's a biologist, author of buzz the nature and assessing of bees. We're talking about bees, and what makes them so cool. So interesting. And so essential to just about everything we see out there in nature and so much of what we consume, you can join the conversation. What are you doing right now to save the bees? What results are you seeing? We're gonna talk. More about that after this break, I'm Anthony Brooks. This is on point. We'll be right back.
