U.S. Releases List of 2019 Gifts to Government Officials

"Wednesday the us state department dropped their twenty nineteen list of high value gifts from foreign governments and it reads like monopoly man's estate sale. Which by the way should be happening anytime. Now he was seventy in one thousand nine forty when we met him. So keep an eye out for that estate sale but either four columns in this ninety two page document which indicate in the first call Who the gift was to gift date. And the date of acceptance the estimated value the current disposition relocation who was from and the reason that the gift was accepted right. Which pretty much on all of them. The acceptance was non-acceptance would cause embarrassment to the donor and the us government right right. And then then you can't take it unless you buy it like exports. That's better than we're in cahoots right or you can give it away which is like What most most folks do in the government right so The list was mostly gifts to to trump Some to to his underlying The guy was asking me pence somebody the kushner's etc pretty much. All of them were the vice. I mean come on anyway the list. This was mostly give to trump and stuff like ceramic dragon head from the president of the socialist republic. Vietnam i want to look into that. That was fifteen fifteen hundred ninety dollars. A brazilian hardwood bench carved to resemble a jaguar from higher bolsonaro. It's pretty cool. Levin hundred bucks a brown leather bound book of hebrew songs from netanyahu for five hundred a painting of donald trump himself to donald trump himself on a dual paying glass surface from also from vietnam. Fifty two hours mart gift. Yes mark gift right. I mean favors gift. But it's on the glass. It sound sick. Like if you're going to give someone a painting themselves it's gotta be

"A federal judge sentencing a man who breached the U. S. capitol during the January and corrosion has assailed the false claims of election fraud pushed by former president trump U. S. district judge Amy Berman Jackson sentenced Carl dress of Michigan to the six months time that he already served in jail for a misdemeanor count for storming the US capitol building but the judge told dress he had misguided views about the twenty twenty election because judge after judge has smacked down Donald trump's claim of election fraud she said the defendant had placed his trust in someone who repaid that trust by lying to him she also noted from dresses videos he was an enthusiastic participant in the effort to subvert the will of the voters but the judge agreed to his plea bargain deal because he didn't hurt anyone or destroy property at the capitol I'm Jackie Quinn

Biden Calls for Cuomo Resignation but Has Allegations of His Own to Address

"So Joe Biden's done talking about He's done talking about it. And there's a reason Joe Biden's done talking about it because he doesn't want the finger pointed at him and because he doesn't want an independent investigation. And I remember when the terror read issue came up, they basically kept attacking Donald Trump. And I remember when the Cuomo stuff came up early on, they basically kept attacking Donald Trump. And as we now know. Cuomo and his people were planting that this was a Donald Trump smear. But we've never quote unquote litigated the issue a terror read and Joe Biden. It's hard to believe every woman how can you possibly believe terror read and Joe Biden at the same time since they say exactly the opposite thing? He claims to barely remember her. I remember with Joe Biden did to Clarence Thomas that set up How he tried to smear Clarence Thomas. Clarence Thomas would have none of it. But he was close Biden and succeeding what he was doing. So all this From Democrats, Democrat women That you must believe the woman when they make an allegation. But they don't believe Tyree. There's never been an investigation. It wasn't litigated, quote unquote during the campaign. Let alone heavily litigated. So the question should be posed to Joe Biden if they ever get a chance to ask the question. Now whether it's the reporter from the New York Post, a reporter from Fox News, they will be drowned out by the rest of the media who do not want to pursue this who want to protect Joe Biden the way they want to do originally protect

It's Time to Stand up Against U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland

"This department is headed by a man who the Democrats so desperately wanted to be on the United States Supreme Court. Merrick Garland. He is, in fact, a radical hack. You'll notice. The Republicans don't really hammer this guy. That was it would hammer Republican attorneys general They don't call for investigations. They don't call for impeachment. Nothing. The Democrats were calling for impeachment of Donald Trump before he became president, the United States. Kind of an odd thing, but none the last day the support of the corrupt media You never hear about impeachment when it comes to Joe Biden, who has violated our constitution in myriad ways. And the way these people rule over us with an iron fist. So as right scoop properly points out. You've got Biden's hack. Attorney general, warns the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, to immediately rescind his new executive order. As Reuters writes. US Attorney General Merrick Garland yesterday warned Texas Governor Greg Abbott to immediately rescind a new executive order aimed at curbing the travel into the state. Of undocumented immigrants who may pose a risk of transmitting covid 19. Notice all the PC language from Reuters. The order violates federal law. Numerous respects and Texas cannot lawfully enforce the executive order against any federal official or private parties working with the United States, Garland told Abbott in a letter. Now that's interesting. But we still have sanctuary cities and stinks thanks to various states, Mr Producer. Who defy federal immigration law. Geraldo Rivera Can't Decide on the Narrative of January 6th Either

"Last night, Geraldo can't seem to determine if his friend with air quotes Donald Trump incited a riot or not either. Check this out. I supported President Trump until the period following the election, leading it to the despicable events of January. 6th on January six we brought we bring you want for your damn people. The world and history an apology. But damn budget are all those wrong on both fronts. Profoundly wrong. How the president I have his transcript of what he said. We're going to go march to the capital peacefully. Unpatriotically is inciting a riot is quite confusing. I don't know if you need a thesaurus and dictionary. I don't know where you get what you just Making that up. I don't understand. Like the narrative goes back and forth between this was a planned insurrection to then Trump incited an insurrection despite the fact that Trump said, Go March peacefully and patriotic Li Oh, God, I don't know why you're making that up. And I was a friend of president trouble. Little bit friends like you. You know who needs enemies? I mean, that's being a friend. Two, man, I don't want any friends like that. You imagine that? But understand this left this cannot decide on a narrative and there's a reason I do. I talk about this stuff because you have to be able to dissect these people when you're able to dissect them and look at what's on the inside. You see, it's never pretty. The reason they can't settle on a narrative is because of what I just said. They're trying to determine what does the maximum political damage not with the truth. They don't care what the truth is. They're not interested in the truth at all. I'll get to that in

"Gordon Gordon. Silent and Bill Taylor testifying in in that Senate Chamber and continued to deny that something very wrong didn't happen I I from what I've seen has been taking this really seriously. All right I appreciate your time senator. Thanks very much for being with me. I know you just have a few more minutes and obviously you're going back into that room. Look AH my panel here. I have to crucial questions coming out of of the conversation. There was no murphy. First of all let me ask you this. What he just ended with that he thinks everyone's paying close attention and I did did point out? There have been some commentary about people dozing off and and again. I did not say that to be light. I said that to set up a series question but his point is maybe. The senators weren't paying close attention engine as we were watching this every day in the house. Maybe they hadn't seen all these full testimonies. Do you think it's possible that people in that room really were learning things about the time line about the phone call in Kiev. Is it possible they really did. SORTA go wow. I think it is possible and I follow this very closely. And there are certain aspects who the presentation evidence that I learned this notion of. Tell me specifically per agency what documents you're seeking to get. I know I've heard names like Mick Mulvaney. We've heard John Blair. We've I've heard about other people who they want to hear from but tell me specifically what you're hoping to Glean and what the testimony during the impeachment inquiry lead you to believe that documents existed assisted. Now make them at all. Come together in one. Easy package is what was missing in this and math. The actual story of the narrative. That's Morton in trying to make the documents. That's why the gate litigators field are so great at what they're doing. Because you have to actually make that compartmentalization make sense and here. You have per agency although it seems exhaustive to all of us to have an amendment that goes through painstakingly each particular aspect of it. It is setting. Say You wondered why we wanted information and well because Gordon Farmland said this bill Taylor that this health ed not just generally we want documents from the. It's this leads to this leads to this specific Taepodong exactly and we didn't have that till now and that is a way of learning that actually is very compelling. It's persuasive in maybe I opening So what do you make of the fact though that Senator Murphy also said he's not confident that he has those those votes Sir Susan Collins can say what she says. Lamar Alexander can say what she says. His conversations today in these breaks would indicate he is not confident. He has the Republican votes for witness. If if if I were a moderate Republican senator. I wouldn't tell Senator Murphy what I'm about to do. Because their argument is whether you accept it or not they want to hear the they want to hear from the managers. And they WANNA hear from the president's defenders and then they're going to make pick up their mind whether more materials is necessary if they were to tell Senator Murphy now that they were going to vote for witnesses then. That argument is bogus but I think some of them believe it and so I think Senator Murphy should wait and in next politically though. He's making a smart move right. You have the feeling of urgency agency. He does but but politically but I also think that he probably understands that those centers are not going to tell him. He's not number one on their call list to to tell when they've made up their mind that they're gonna go against Mitch McConnell. They're going to wait until there's all this information and there's real pressure and then they'll say Mitch or Senate whatever they call him to do this. I'm just going to have to do this. I'm sorry and you. You see those cracks. Yeah and I think what what Senator Murphy there was applying applying maximum pressure and. That's what today is these. Are Rules votes in the Senate and the House are generally party line. They generally get attention. They don't matter. It's reasonably reasonably easy for a Susan Collins or a Mitt Romney to say this is just the rules. Were Okay and we got our concessions but it's very rare in politics that you see you know the the the train moving in one direction at stop and move back it you know. If if even th- the pressure of last night and the news coverage forced Collins and Portman and others into McConnell's office saying that's a bad trend but I agree Also with everything that Maggie Haberman said before which just they feel like they can wrap this and hold these guys and the big thing is they will a book. They will have learned stuff but the questions doesn't matter if they know the case is terrible and they may still say. I'm with the president yet. Maggie they are preparing for witnesses. They're preparing for the possibility of witnesses and really the witness again that they're really concerned about somebody like a John Bolton who has appeared as a wildcard in a way that someone like Mick Mulvaney has not. They would be mistaken if they weren't preparing for the possibility that this could happen. One thing that they've been actually very clear eyed about despite Sort of more public sense of I wouldn't say bluster but but confidence they're very clear that this could end up going in a number of different directions that they're not predicting and so other preparing for it. All right and thank you all very much for being with me And if we anticipate obviously they're going to be heading back into that chamber to consider that Fourth Amendment momentarily. Thanks thanks for joining us. Our breaking news coverage continues with Anderson. "Well guess what the first time will be able to answer questions or ask questions or even look at the documents. According to Colin statement is after they've got twenty four hours from each item opening statements and then sixteen hours of questions and then they get to look at it. But there's no opportunity Zuni then ask more questions for follow up so what we the point of having verdict first trial next to paraphrase laurence tribe earlier today. If you actually want to deliberate and have have information wouldn't you want right now even if it might not go your way just to have it to either support your argument but trust the credibility of the witness is that may or may not show Auburn Com or even to have a leg to stand on. So so who do you think. Is the winner here today than Ryan. I mean obviously when this amendment is discussed as it. We'll be next right after this dinner break you're then going to have The Mick Mulvaney discussion and then they're gonNA extensively as we've seen with everything else table that amendment so you'll Republicans say they don't want to hear from Mick Mulvaney even though perhaps they do. Who is the winner? So I think the winner might be that the American public actually does get to hear from the witnesses that seems to be what's happening happening here. Yeah it seems real reflection on the pressure that's being placed on certain Republicans to do the right thing or do the thing that's their constituents want. CNN just had the poll in the last two days that it says sixty nine percent of Americans want there to be witnesses and a plurality of Republicans want there to be witnesses. I think that's really the variable. That's putting pressure for are there to be change until we've seen cracks emerge that we wouldn't have anticipated just twenty four hours ago. I WANNA bring in Maggie Haberman from New York Times Maggie as we. Have this break here this this we we anticipate it'll go till right around eight o'clock eastern Then they're gonNA come back and deliberate on whether Mick Mulvaney would-be subpoenaed At this point in the process what are you learning from your reporting. Look I I I think that I I agree that there are some cracks here and there are reasons to believe that there might be some movement but everyone I speak to around. The trump team still feels fairly confident that they are going to see see Republicans. Hold the line not go for witnesses. The again the main person the White House had been concerned about was Lamar Alexander. They they believe and they could be wrong to be clear. We have repeatedly seen the White House project certainty about something when it's not really clear but they believe this is going to move ahead without witnesses being called call if witnesses are called and say there is a discussion about subpoenaing John Bolton and having him come forward he is somebody who they've spent a lot of time focusing on how they would keep keep him from complying Mick Mulvaney. They're not concerned about He is already Talked about needing permission from the president. And that's how he handled the house. John Bolton has since said he would Comply with a Senate subpoena and so the concern of the White House. Is You have to go through a process of making sure that information that was privy to was classified and then go to court sort and so we already saw some discussions around court cases in the house. inquiry You would likely something similar here if it got to that point. What do you make of how that goes? Though at that. Point I mean is is something like privilege or immunity a something. That would be upheld in any serious way. Given that so much of what is being discussed is is already public right. So the idea that Bolton can come testify and then claiming executive privilege doesn't really work so well since we've already had his deputies present evidence the house so the idea that the president needs to maintain confidentiality. There's very communications have already been disclosed to the public. We now need to hear from the Horse's mouth. So John Bolton did you say it it was a drug deal John Bolton. Did you raise concerns with the legal team inside the National Security Council. That's a huge part of it so for them to be able to say no he can still refuse to actually answer specific civic questions. They're pretty weak position and There's a strong argument that the executive privilege idea doesn't survive in an impeachment hearing. Maybe it's advise as with regular congressional oversight but there's good arguments that the balance Congress is acting at the zenith of its power. Here is not the instance in which you can actually try to maintain. This evidence is confidential. The Laura what do you think I think that's absolutely right. The idea as well as interesting both both parties to trump's defense team and of course the house managers are making an argument about separation of power is being at the. We're maybe at the tail end unless it goes their way in terms of privilege or immunity issues and interesting to have both make that argument because if they are both right it would force witnesses to be there right. The only way to actually assert your oversight power only way to actually say yes. This person has done the wrong thing or has done. The right thing is for a witness to be called manage like they agree on this very fine point about the notion I've listened. There is no privilege that will protect you in general for criminal activity. There's no privileges says as long as you are the president no matter what conversation you've ever had is always protected and it depends on whether talking about Bolton talking to another member of a cabinet. It's not the president. Is that still covering the privilege. This is very novel and of course we do have a chief justice sitting right there who may be somebody to want to weigh in on this but his hands are tied in a way because if he does this now any case coming down the pipeline he will have shown his hand so if a catch twenty two. We're trying to navigate. I mean mean these are the big question Jocelyn. How was the performance today? Joe How would you say I mean obviously You know we we saw at Bologna. A lot of people had no idea what it's Baloney lights until today when the president's obviously chief defenders J. Secolo we saw again on behalf of the President Adam Schiff obviously taking the lead role and we just saw him here on this amendment about Oh oh mb recounting the phone. Call in between Gordon's online and the President Jason Crowe from Colorado Just made his first appearance. How would you say so far? The performance is come into these amendments. Well I think it's worth going back to nineteen ninety nine and comparing it because it's almost the opposite in in my mine. I think in one thousand nine hundred nine. The House impeachment manners did a pretty good job but they came off as very political. And I think you know chuck. Ruff the White House counsel David Kendall the president's personal turning on all of the lawyers there Won The day as far as the debate because they came off as factual it was like this is what the law is. This is what happened and we're just gonNA keep his that. The opposite happened today. I think the Democrats particularly the the manager so we hadn't seen so much from Jason Pro. Val demings Zoe lofgren. We're very very clear. And the only way I mean I think the chip was a little bit political But there are some points that need to be rebutted and I think that that is much different. I you know I. I told people today that if I'd been in the White House today I'd be underneath my desk in the fetal position. That's how poorly I think particularly jaysekulow. A cycle did They they feels like they took the memo from the House. Republicans and said. Oh Yeah we just scream and yell and say conspiracy and hoax ridiculous and breathtaking and we'll be fine. They've misread the senate. The Senate is very different than the house and people expected something different today. They didn't get it from those. The White House lawyers now again. I may be wrong. We may find a different conclusion. But I think that the president was let down today by and Maggie aggie. What's your feeling from talking to them? Obviously what they're gonNA say. It may be perhaps different than what they feel. But what are you read between the lines. They've stuck pretty much to the playbook that they telegraphed they were going to do. Going into this We haven't heard yet what the president's reaction has been catching up to all of this. He's in Davos right now And he always weighs in on how his team performs on television. I'm sure he'll have lots of things to say whether it's private or He tweets something about it but they actually feel pretty good about how they handled today. Because the thing as as I was listening to Joe Talk I think that in previous iterations of history You would have people who would be unwilling to go out and say that something. Nothing had happened Something happened that didn't happen as you saw repeatedly from the president's lawyers today and then you would feel bad about it afterwards but when you are the president's lawyers and you're walking into this and you are ah basically of the belief is a foregone conclusion we're gonNA find out whether they misread the senate or not but they believe that this has been stacked in a way that favors them mm-hmm temp. Well Val demings talking about well demings per minute. Remember that most of these senators are look how impeach matters most of these centers are lawyers and she explained what we what we the American people need to know and it is very hard art when you go document by document to think that this is a that this has some kind fishing expedition to make these grand statements about. It's a witch hunt. It's a fishing expedition when she took she brought it down to the document level and each of these demands was reasonable. There's an advantage that the Democrat. That did that. The house managers have gotten today. They had a chance to preview their prosecutorial briefs today right and this is not the open history may have felt that way to some people. Why don't you but that is not not what it was and I think that this is important for the senators? Even more of the American people one of the things I think it's true in one thousand nine hundred. Nine is the senators. Despite the fact that the House had had had these hearings didn't know the details of the case against President Clinton. They learning things. I think. The senators are learning being things today. I think many of them blocked out what happened in the house. They don't really know the details and today Jason Crowe Valda and the other managers managers were going point by point in a loyally factual professional way and the senators. Many of whom are lawyers had to actually be affected by this and of course they didn't their phones or anything else. All right all of you please stay with me. We're GONNA take a brief break. Senator Chris Murphy will be with us just coming out of that room during the break right. Afterwards we'll be right back.

They regularly leverage their position to influence other countries. That's a normal part of what a president does but what was fundamentally mentally different for me. Is that president. And there's one guy in particular in the back who screams you're part of the squad. The squad runs the Democrats the four best known house freshmen liberals. Exactly and at one point he even gets up and yells. You belong to Rashida uh-huh and what's so fascinating about this moment. Is that when we started reporting at the beginning of this year on the Freshman Class of Democrats it was exactly that completion completion. That people like Elissa Slacken. Were trying to avoid because they knew the Republicans would try to lump all the Democrats together as trump heating in left wing progressive. They would try to make a slot can and to lead indistinguishable. They're very different exactly and MM slatkin has been so cautious in this process. She's been thorough. She has had careful reasoning but none of that matters. In this moment moment she is Rashida sleep. According to this protesters the constitution letter said that the squawk nor should it but not since. I think that's exactly what gets under slatkin's skin this this feeling of not being understood in the way that she understands herself that no matter what she says no matter what she believes a significant number of her constituents or just going to see her as this kind of character of a Democrat and they're never going to agree with her and she's not going to be able to get rid of them. You could help health her voice that maybe she expected this. Maybe this seemed surprised. But it's still hard all right. Thank you very much for coming out today. Please leave safely back. Thank you thank you for listening. Appreciate it thank. You've are being good citizens.

"Now the thank you thank everybody for being here. It is great feedback. You're at thirty rock with all of you here. Could God today day today has been ten days and this week has been ten weeks and there are a million things happening at once. Just in the past couple of hours hours for instance we just got this incredibly incriminating in damning behind closed doors testimony from a US foreign service officer. That was supposed to be kind of like the e story day. The side show. It's a guy who works in the US embassy in Ukraine. A guy named David Holmes He. He testified behind closed doors that he could hear president trump talking on the phone to the US ambassador the European Union an inaugural donor give million bucks. Mr Trump Gordon someone and they were in a restaurant in Keiv and the president was shouting so loudly in the phone that Sunland John Lynch to hold the phone away from his ear because it was hurting his ear drum so then everyone could hear and After he hung up with the president told told this guy the guy who testified David Holmes the president does not give. And I'm quoting now so I can say it does not gonNA shit about Ukraine. He only cares about the big stuff and buy big stuff. He means investigations into the binds. Right yes that's all right area action in a restaurant and shouting through the phone so that just happened. We're GONNA have more on that very crazy testimony testimony later but this week one keep in mind in the public televised impeachment hearings the United States. It's just the fourth time in American history that we're all going through this process. I think it's fair to say and maybe I'm a bit biased. But I think it's fair to say he's not going really well for the president the first week today even before that breaking news was especially busy busy day in the in the criminal. Chronicles of one president. Donald J trump so the president's longtime longtime advisor and Associate Roger Stone. Today was convicted on seven counts in a federal court..

"The whole world was watching his impeachment hearing? I have a watch for one minute. And what Democrats. They're planning for a second act. If this is not impeachable conduct what is all in starts right. Now it's the ultimate impeachable offense. Good evening from New York. I'm Chris as it's here today. The House of Representatives held its first public televised hearing into the impeachment of president. Donald J trump. It is just the fourth time in American history that we've done this kind of thing as a country so if you're under the age of twenty you're not alive. The the last time this happened today. The American people got a fuller picture of the corrupt abuse of power. By the President of the United States we've known for over a month about the catalyst catalyst for this investigation. When the Ukrainian president told President trump he wanted to buy more American weapons and the president responded quote? I would like you to do us a favor though. So we have the call notes. We've gotten thousands and thousands of pages of transcripts from impeachment depositions of people testifying behind closed doors about what happened but today we got to hear it and see it with our own eyes it was truly historic the first witnesses in the impeachment hearing acting. US Ambassador to Ukraine. William Taylor her and Deputy Assistant Secretary St George Can. They testified in front of the House. Intelligence Committee for more than five hours and what we heard was specific testimony about right. How president trump withheld military systems from Ukraine? A country currently occupied by Russia. A country in desperate need of that aid and assistance in order to squeeze the new Ukrainian president into manufacturing dirt on the president's political rival ambassador. Taylor a man who served in critical State Department rolls around the world for over three decades and who somewhat remarkably still wakes up every morning when he's back in Ukraine and goes to work at the US embassy in Keiv described a conversation with us. Ambassador mastered the European Union. Gordon Sunland when Taylor realized the president trump was in fact withholding this vital military aid for his own personal. The game sent ambassador. Solomon text message asking if we are now saying that the security systems and a White House meeting conditioned edition on Investigations. Besser Sahlin responded asking me to call him which I did during that phone call. Investor Solomon told me that president didn't trump had told him that he wants presidents Alinsky to state publicly that Ukraine will investigate Barista and alleged Ukrainian interference in the two thousand sixteen sixteen election. Besser saw also told me that he now recognized that he had made a mistake by earlier telling Ukrainian officials that only a White House meeting with presence. Linski was dependent on a public announcement of the investigations. In fact ambassador Sunland said everything. Everything was dependent on such announcement including security assistance. Ambassador Taylor also explained how he learned that the words investigate corruption. We're just code for for investigate the Democrats and the bites. I'd come to understand well before. Then that investigations was a term ambassadors. Volker Sondheim used to mean matters related to the two thousand sixteen elections and to end to investigations of Barack Obama and Biden's Taylor also made a huge bit of news today when he revealed a previously undisclosed recent communication with a member of his staff that clearly demonstrates present from priorities and motivations keep in mind that the interaction action Taylor's describing and a bit of sound I'm going to play for you is from literally the day after trump's infamous phone call with Ukrainian president last Friday. A member of my staff told me of events that occurred on July twenty six while investor Vulcan Volcker and I visited the Front member of my staff accompanied ambassador. sunlen investor Sunland met with Mr Yearbook following that meeting in the presence of my staff at a restaurant. Aunt Besser Solomon called president trump and told him of his meetings and gave the member of my staff could hear president trump on the phone asking ambassador. Excellent about the investigations toll president trump the Ukrainians were ready to move forward following the call. With president trump trump. The member of my staff asked investors on what president trump thought about Ukraine. That's the song and responded that President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden. MM which Giuliani was pressing for. I mean there you have it gas right. President trump cares more about the investigations of Biden. Sure does that is what this whole thing is about Gordon sunlit. A man who donated a million dollars the trump inaugural committee basically got the ambassador Gig as a thank. You meets with his the top Ukrainian official the day after the president. If Mr Call after that meeting someone goes to a restaurant in the middle of the restaurant decided to just ring up the pres- The update them and the president has solvent about the investigations. And he's doing it so loudly that other people near Sunland can hear President Trump Advisor Saga and tells them the deal. Well is on. We've closed it. You talked to him yesterday. I'm here in person to close. Ukrainians are ready to move forward with the investigations to sources. Tell them you see news. The man who related that account to master tailor a man named David Holmes will now be giving a private deposition to the committee on Friday. Trump was asked about that conversation. A press conference this afternoon and completely saying I don't recall dot at all not even a little bit. Today's hearing was the first opportunity for congressional Republicans to publicly cross examined people who had front row seats the presence. Extortion of Ukraine was their chance to refute the accusations being made to build a strong defense. The president's actions they it did not really do any of those things instead. They tried to make the hearing all about Joe Biden. Some argue that what those political investigations were in the best interest of Ukraine the US. Pass the deputy assistant secretary stage. George Kent Shredded. That defense is pressuring Ukraine to conduct. What I believe you've called political goal investigations a part of US foreign policy to promote the rule of law in Ukraine and around the world? It is not is it in the national interest of the United States. In my opinion it is not so in other words. It is a purpose of our foreign policy to encourage for nations to refrain from conducting political investigations. Is that right correct. And in fact as a matter of policy not of programming We oftentimes raise our concerns usually in private with countries that we feel are engaged in selective political prosecution and persecution of their opponents. It's George Ken who previously served as the senior anti-corruption coordinate coordinator in the State Department's here pin Bro- borough saying President Trump's pressure campaign was itself a kind of corruption that it was bad for the US and bad for Ukraine. Which I think just about sums up the entire story? We heard today joining me now. One of the members of Congress who questioned the two witnesses today Democratic Congressman Roger Crystal Worthy of Illinois a member both the House intelligence and oversight. Committee's Congressman. What did you think of today? What did you learn? Well I had about three takeaways a I is. We did learn new information. That makes it look like president. Trump was even more deeply involved than we previously thought. I mean for him to basically have a cell phone call with Sunland the very day after the July twenty fifth call to just kind of close the deal. As you mentioned before is news the second takeaway I had was at the witnesses presented very compelling in testimony Especially Ambassador Taylor and then the third is We actually maintain some good decorum today. It wasn't the circus that some people feared and I think credit goes the chairman shift for maintaining an excellent Set of proceedings laying the ground rules very clearly and dealing with points points of order and so forth Expeditiously in a fair way. One thing I noticed today and I'm curious if you had the same impression I did not hear. Republicans Republicans on the committee or the committee lawyer attempts to essentially make the case that there wasn't a kind of exchange condition quid pro. Whatever you WANNA call it seems to be you that the arguments about whether it was successful or whether it's legitimate interest to the United States to do that it was that your understanding of of of your colleagues arguments arguments yes? I did not hear too many arguments that you know. A lot of the central allegations the substance and of the charges against the President are actually non meritorious are false. It was rather like you said it was more with regard to yeah this happened but it was almost like the Mick Mulvaney get over it type of defense. What do you think the groundwork was laid today? And what are you you. How do you understand the trajectory of these hearings as they go forward well as you know there? A number of witnesses coming before US and the next couple for weeks on Friday we hear from Ambassador Ianovich and basically heard testimonies very important because essentially what she's going to be talking about If you read her deposition position transcript you would see that. Essentially a smear campaign was Kind of propagated against her by Giuliani to remove who've her and make way for the three Amigos namely Volker Sunlen and carry on with Giuliani to commandeer Ukraine policy not necessarily in the best interest of America but in the best interests of Giuliani's clients people like Donald Trump and maybe other potential International Actors as well today from Republicans was Complain about hearsay which they said a lot. That Taylor for instance ambassador killer never actually spoke directly directly to the president minor standings. And there's a number of people who have spoken directly president that had been called the committee that have declined. Would you like to be able to talk to say Mick Mulvaney or Rick Perry before your committee sure but but on the other hand there are a number of people coming. That have talked to the president's such as Gordon Sunland. Who's he's appearing next week but the most important thing that I would just point out? Is You know Gordon Sunland Tim. Morrison and others basically vouch for the recounting of these conversations with the president or is Alinsky that Ambassador tailor-made and so I have not yet heard anybody dispute these particular descriptions of those conversations and that's very important. How do you understand what your role is Both with you as a member of Congress but also the committee in this. I mean as you said before. These individuals have given depositions behind closed doors. What do you see is the function Shen of today and Friday and going forward? I think at least two functions one laying out the evidence in a way that's clear earlier and that educates the American public about what we've learned and then secondly asking questions building on what we learned in the depositions so for instance you know Mr Samland is coming in next Wednesday. He gave his deposition that he gave an addendum to his deposition. Clarifying certain points in the deficit uh-huh deposition so we'll want to know why like what what prompted for instance These clarifications. What more can you tell us? What can you tell us about this other conversation recession that we've learned just today that's going to be very important so at the same time we'll be laying out what we've learned? We're going to try to learn more. And that's very import. All right congressman it's been Roger Crystal Worthy Thank you very much. Thank you Chris. Joining me our to legal experts who are paying close attention. Today's hearing Melissa. Murray professor of Constitutional Law Matthew Miller former chief spokesperson for the Department of Justice now. MSNBC justice and national security analysts. Melissa I'll start with. You thought that I was not expecting that..

We're back in a TV. The interview in the glow of victory per scale quoted his wife candace Blount. She said that I was thrown into the Super Bowl. Never played a game in one and Pascale took his super bowl ring and monetize it. He tried to really cash in on the success of the presidential campaign. He actually pitched his commercial work. As the per scale effect and the notion was Mr Commercial Businessman Company Higher Birth scale to do the magic for your company that he did for Donald Trump that was kind of a theme he starts working on a project for the Dallas Mavericks. He pitches a high dollar digital marketing campaign campaign for seaworld does paid speeches in Romania and Monaco. He spotted flying around the world walking down an airplane. I'll he's hard to miss but he's also continuing to do. Political work literally from the moment trump takes office after the whole issue with the fight and the ad commissions per scale reframe things for the twenty twenty election says he's only taking a three hundred thousand dollars regear salary from the campaign but he positions himself to be the beneficiary of much larger income streams for his campaign work while his collecting the salary from the campaign his company gets paid millions of dollars by the Republican National Committee to make and buy ads well. There's certainly nothing the wrong people in politics making money of course there are lots of high level operatives for both parties who have unapologetically cashed in. It's business as usual for the political political class. Pascale says he's doing this for the love of country and trump working for trump is clearly made brad millions and transformed his life. He now drives Ferrari A and B. M. W. He owns a gorgeous two point four million dollar waterfront home in Florida the money from the campaign and the RNC weren't the only way press gal was making money after the two thousand sixteen election. His company was also making money from a pro-trump dark money group called America first and and that's a group that's free from the normal restrictions on disclosing its donors on how much money can raise and how it spends money under the law. These groups are barred art from coordinating with a political campaign but per scale had actually co founded this group along with other trump campaign operatives and he was simultaneously only getting paid by both trump's reelection campaign and America. First Common Cause has filed complaints about this with both the Federal Election Commission and the Justice Department I meant the complaints are still pending after scales named campaign manager in February two thousand eighteen America first which has to publicly report. It's payments suddenly suddenly stopped paying Brad's company personnel strategy but then per scales crew didn't stop doing the work and he didn't stop making money from it. He incorporated rated a mysterious Delaware. LC that had no public connection to him. It's called Red State Data and digital it took over the work per scall- was doing for America the first Super Pac. It's payments as reported in Public Federal Election Commission filings were to a anonymous mail-drop at a Pennsylvania Avenue ups. PS Store and the secretive new company which had no other known clients is made more than nine hundred thousand dollars at first per scale all set his company's work for the RNC the Super Pac and the trump campaign were all legally vetted after PROPUBLICA and other news organizations began asking further questions for scale said he'd stopped doing advise for the RMC but all of that back and forth obscured something Peter you uncovered something else. It's not just that scale was getting streams of income from the campaign. Super PAC and the RNC. It's that the trump campaign has taken over the currency. NC An unprecedented ways under trump the currency has become practically a wholly owned subsidiary of the trump campaign. Now it's not unusual for president to direct their parties to play a critical role but as with so much else in this situation trimtabs way way further than any of his predecessors have one way this has happened. There's a metric down ballot candidates people running for governor or Congress look at called voter scores. It's information Russian on how voters in a particular district feel about trump which could affect campaign ads and messaging previously the RNC would allow these Republican Republican candidates to see this information not trump so candidates in Michigan or Ohio or Illinois who who were trying to figure out how best to run their campaigns how best to be victorious. Republican candidates are deprived of the information from the party on how L. voters in their district feel about trump. RNC officials say the data belongs to the trump campaign which is free to withhold it. If the president wants America I declined comment. It's kind of an enforced loyalty. They don't have the information that they need that might incline them to distance themselves therefore they're in this situation of of being afraid that if they don't hue very closely to the president and to his wishes that that they're going to jeopardize their own candidacies clearly president trump is not patient or tolerant of people that try try to run campaigns distance themselves from him and it's not just the fear factor the parties actually also depriving them of information that might be helpful in them winning reelection or winning office and in two thousand sixteen trump promise to drain the swamp to fund his own on campaign to reduce the influence of big donors. That's not what happened so here. We have what's projected to be America's first billion-dollar in dollar political campaign if so much money rocketing through the trump campaign and updates related accounts and the groups that are supporting trump and per scale is at the center of it all all he personifies a huge issue which is how big money has taken over American politics.
