"Will call for raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans to help pay for his American families plan. He's expected to talk about the $1.8 trillion plan when he addresses a joint session of Congress. That measure would invest billions in child care, paid family leave and education. The sentencing date for former Minneapolis police officer Derrick Show. Vinnie is moving to June 25th because of a scheduling conflict. Last week, a jury found showman guilty on all three charges in the killing of George Floyd. The Minnesota law dictates that Sheldon can only be sentenced on the most serious charge. That's second degree murder, and it carries a maximum sentence of 40 years, But experts believe he'll get much less. And now we're hearing from one of the jurors and ABC is Robin Roberts has more Brandon Mitchell. Was one of 12 who found show been guilty on all three charges that led to the former police officers. Conviction for the murder. Ah, George Floyd. I spoke to Brandon just moments ago. Good morning brand and thank you for your willingness to To share with us what went on inside. That jury room and the deliberations plays. Tell us first I want to start up. I send my condolences to the Floyd family haven't got a chance to do that publicly. So I want to do that first foremost. Another deliberation room. It was pretty much for the most part of a straightforward There were a few hiccups with, you know, terminology and understanding exactly what the instructions were for each case. Blacks are for the most part. We got it. We got out. There wasn't too much banter back and forth was there one juror, though, on one of the lesser charges? That was the hold out for a while? Yes, I mean, We probably deliberated for four hours. And of that four hours it was it was. I guess we were going over more so the terminology that was being used to make sure that We understood exactly what was being asked. I think the one juror that was kind of I won't say slowing us down. But, um, was being Delicate with the process more so, um Was just kind of Ah. Hung up on a few words within within the instructions just wanted to make sure that they got it right. And so how were you able, and that's how you were able to convince this particular juror Clarification. Yes. So, um Yes. So we just kind of went around the room. He broke down. We literally broke down. The census is a broke down the words and with the meetings where, um, just described it several different ways from different perspectives. Um, until we came for the common conclusion. Brandon Mitchell. You know that there are some people who believe that the racial climate and the protests in the streets may have impacted the deliberations. Does that ever discussed And was that an issue at all? We weren't watching the news, so we don't know what was going on. We were really just locked in on the case. There was so much stress coming from the case. E mean, those things that are so secondary because you're literally Throughout the trial. You're watching somebody died on a daily basis, so that stress alone Is enough to Take your mind away from whatever's going on outside of the four walls of the courtroom, and that was that was not even Wasn't even something. Listen any never minds anything. So what was the impact? That nine minute 29 2nd video and was that the difference maker? The video is is it's a historic video video. Unfortunately on the scene, the multiple angles ever from the body cams from the other the other cell phones. It was probably the most important piece of evidence. Was there Any testimony was one piece of testimony for you. That made a difference. Yes, So for me, I'll say, I'll say two for sure. Donald Williams. Just you know this how he spoke about everything. And Dr Tobin. I think once Dr Tobin got on the stand and the way he spoke and the details that he gave in the way he gave the details. Um, I thought that really solidified the prosecution's case. Eric show they're not taking the stand. Did that have an impact, not hearing from him. The former officer, you know, it probably apologize to his detriment that he didn't take the same because people were curious on what his thoughts were throughout the entire incident. That's Brandon Mitchell, one of the jurors from the Derrick Show. Vin Trial. Speaking with ABC is Robin Roberts Co Moh news time. 7 21. It's time for the Propel Insurance Money Update this morning. Hey, Jake, if you out there, let Dennis no 734 not at 18 50. Let's go to Philly Eat Now we know you have a Mount Rushmore. Hell, yeah, you can be You got to. Hey, listen, boys, you only say things about there's a lot of these guys that never really got a chance to see him play. You have to have Cassie on there. Yeah, He represents the rust the run that they made in the sixties, and he's probably The face of the program, You know, let me such is my opinion. Rudy t. His numbers are almost. I mean, they're right there with Cassie. The only downside the Rudy Keys. He didn't really play on any good teams. I think there was one team that broke 500 the other two. I only think they approached. Why were they were near 500, But there were 500 team. Glen Rice. 184 points in the tourney broke, though Bradley's record we won the championship and he was absolutely deadly lights out from three probably my crowning moment as a Michigan basketball fan without question. And I'm gonna throw in Ricky Green. I think he's the best representative from that run that they made, you know, in 76 77, you know. I would probably take him over Harvard like guards. Better for one, um It's a shame that they they ran into, you know, an undefeated team still the less undefeated team by you, and they got upset by cornbread Maxwell the following year, and that kind of put a damper on things. Um I didn't have a representative from the staff five because I think they're I look at them as a collective unit. However, I am going to go out and this is my hot take if I took the best individual player from that side, five group I will take Juwan Howard his junior year now. I wasn't Jalen Rose guy, but by the time 1994 rolled around, and whoever was gone, I would have to say Tawan Howard his last year 1994, and they got knocked out by Arkansas game that they almost and remember now that was coral swims and and and that one in the whole thing. No one was on stoppable absolutely unstoppable his last year, so out of that whole group, I would take him. But I'm that can put him in the Mount Rushmore on the answer The question the greatest Ohio State Michigan basketball game. It's not even close. Are you kidding me? 1992 the Fab Five We got swept in the regular season We ran in the Funderburke. Jimmy J in a regional finals, and we beat him thanks to a little help from Christian who shot them out of the game. Are you kidding me? That is without question. The best. Michigan Ohio State basketball game? No doubt. No doubt. That's why I thought Hadley was just asking Michigan Ohio State games and that was the one that I don't know if all go find any other ones like you go in the regular season or something, but Yeah, that one for sure. Southeast regional final Yeah, and I'll be honest with you guys. I know they never wanted, but they made it to finals and they only stayed together two years, But if they get eliminated that day, I don't think their legacy changes. I really think it does. You know, if they get eliminated in the final eight, they probably have to go and beat North Carolina the next year to kind of have the status that they have. Now That's just my personal feeling on it. And last week, I I will take ready drum roll. I will take the 2018 basketball team. I love the run. Think about the guys. They wanted to the Breslin. My man did that behind the back, Wagner and you know, he just made to do look silly. What was his name? Nick. And what was his name? What was that guy who defend it was his name. Oh, thank you. I can't think of his name because it's not important. And then when, you know what did we backed it up? We smoked them again up in the up in New York City for the big 10 attorney. I just love that team that won the big 10 tourney. Um Its course. The only bad thing is, you know, don't ever goes and has a night and, you know, you know, I argue with people around here, you know, deep in chance of scores 31 that night. He was a basically a six man, right? Now our sixth man was the sharp board of the sharpshooters we ever had. Who's just lighten it up for for the Miami heat right now, do you realize, um He registered the goose egg that night. Does anybody realize that? No, And that's why it's hard to put them as the one team here in the 21st century because the Of the way that they played against Villanova. That's why the team that you would look at the tray Burke team that played against Louisville who the way that you know how close that game Woz and this again, they got robbed that calls that night. No doubt about it was the big last year that you're talking about Nick, my ankles just playing together. Ward. Yeah. Yeah, he fell to the ground Put Duncan Robinson registers a doughnut in the national championship. And if he just scored 10, and if Beaven Chan's Oh scores his usual 12 were 10. Instead of exploding for 31. That's probably a different game, too. But, you know, you know one thing about Championship games Michigan when you go through there, it's a good call Bailey because DiVincenzo the Handcock kid from Louisville, who was that North Carolina shooter, Donald Williams. He went off for like, and that And that game the time out game. What did he had 32 27 points and that's why we lost because we were better than that team. And you got away and scores 27 out of nowhere. Yeah. Leslie, I gotta remember. Now you remember that that 2018 team won 33 games? I think it's Yeah Record is not 17 in a row that was program records as well. And I was strung out one more guy, and then I'll let you guys go. I absolutely I wish he would still be around Champa Rockman. I absolutely love that dude coach's son. That his facial expression never changed. He was just solid, man. I just love that, dude. Uh, I wish she had eight years of eligibility. And there's a dude that's just kind of flew under the radar, his whole career, But I'm gonna tell you right now, Mohammed Ali do rock mind what a great kid would a great player poster child for Michigan basketball with that question? Especially the B liner. Go blue. You guys take care. Bag. 734 99 10 50. Let's go to Jake. Any Ann Arbor? What up, Jake? What a greedy it'll be a Michigan worry. I only want to say is, um, being Wayne Sterritt, innit? Enjoying Howard finishing it? I want to give a big congrats l to the players coming in nature there straight players coming in. It's on the McDonald's All Americans won Game one play one more time. I'll hang up the missing go blue hair loose. I'll hang up and listen to blues. Thanks, Jack. "Nobody's catching him. He's having flag football touchdowns. He's up the gut, and he's gone isn't done it since week one though saquon Barkley he's been doing it week one. I understand that. Here's another one for you. I got one more game Quinton Nelson. You wanna make Aaron Donald MVP? I do. Okay. Then you need to talk about Quinton Nelson. His offensive rookie of the year a guard. Team's gotta make the playoffs. Saquon bark is not making the playoffs. Why does it have to be Quinton Nelson has to make Gwen Nelson is much better for a lineman to make to to make hay war? And now, you're just now you're I'll totally that guy in the pool just flailing for the fly on the wall. Totally admit linemen bias. But you're the one who was pounding the table for Aaron Donald William VP of the day. So if a defensive tackle should be in the mix for play writing on single season sack record this offense. There are. No, there are no metrics fr- lime and other than holding penalties. His there, right, right? Which is why it stuff but Andrew luck being kept upright for as long as he's been kept upright during that stretch of three touchdown passes for eight straight games. Three a more for eight straight games. Throwing Clinton Nelson out there. I'm not we're not missing anybody. Are we for offense rookie rookie of the year? Because we're all focused on defensive rookie of the year would late Vander, as, you know, remaining players German James is James. Yeah. And ward, there's Leonard dairies Leonard. You mentioned Mike McCarthy's talked to the Packers doing any more details on that. Mark Murphy was on local radio and said he spoke to the team yesterday. That was good. I think Mike wanted some closure with the players and some of the other coaches to be able to thank them and say goodbye to them as well. So there were no no details. Somebody actually said. Mccoy he said he might McCarthy's probably gonna lay low and try to finish this professional chapter on the high road. What does that mean lay low lay low on the high road? Not sure. Professional chapters at Mark Murphy said well, this professional chapter is going to be. Somewhere next year. You look at right now. The jets are going to have a new coach the. Bengals are going to have a new coach the Browns are gonna have a new coach, right? The ravens could have new coach they think Bengals new coach please come on. Now. Come on. Now, we've been saying Bengals new coach for five years. Ian Rappaport on game day morning this past Sunday. Had a report that Marvin. Louis is on the hot seat in Cincinnati. Okay. That that this is that there that this is, you know, now. Now, it's I said on the air in the history of the NFL network are fifteen years Marvin Lewis has now cemented has lead from most on the hot seat stories in the history of the NFL network. Nobody has had his name. I mean like groundhog day. What year is it? This is finally going to happen. Unfortunately in Cincinnati, Marvin Lewis will get a job if you want it to coordinate somebody's defense somewhere. That is. Absolutely. The guy would hire in two seconds flat. Does that mean any Dalton's not coming back possible? They blow the whole thing up. Well, it all depends on what? Hugh Jackson wants. It's possible. The jaguars. Obviously marrone. I think has a huge advocate in in Tom Coughlin who was on local radio there and did not mention at all about the whistle being shot, one whistle shy. The both things that went wrong. Never never said. Coaching problem? You mentioned cardinals while not that's just I'm just going through the AFC row. Sorry. The NFC's new. There will be no coaching changes the NFC west. The cardinals are I don't think they're going to bounce them. I do not and making that choice right now. I think they don't. And then in the NFC north Packers, obviously have one. Then won't bounce Matt Patricia they won't want. It done him. Wouldn't that be something? How would be something? And then I think Dirk cut rates it. Unfortunately in Tampa. I think that they have very little patients there. New quarterback there next year. Possibly may have one too. Because that that owners got an itchy trigger finger if they finish seven and nine are in and hit hit. Gimme the unlock your lock of the week. And I'm done with you. And I'm done at all. It's time for rich Eisen unluckiest..

"And and jump in and then be athletes off the bounce. So I think that's where it goes. But I never even played shooting guard nothing really, not even North Carolina. I was powerful, you know, maintenance, led to the small for I was never shooting guard. So I never really took those comparisons to heart. You know, trying to be next Michael Jordan, anything like that. I just wanted to be the best Jerry Stackhouse that I could be and that wind up carbon almost a twenty year career, you know, as a professional basketball player. So, you know, whether some people look at that where you didn't, you know, reach, you know, Michael joins level or this and that and. I had the weather. My goal. My goal is to you know, try to beat the best that I can provide for my family, and I was able to do that for like I said eighteen years at the highest level and able to steal continue to be a part of the game of basketball at the highest level. You know now as a coach so man, I really have no regrets and look back in which anything, you know, they losing in the finals to to Miami really kinda sticks in my craw little bit, you know, count that that world championship eluding me over the time. But I don't know if I'd have done that would I had the passion to steal when NBA championship and and be as passionate as I am about coaching. I don't know. So I feel like everything that has happened over these last twenty five years half before reason and put me in a position to be where I'm at now still hungry still hungry to try to win. Win a world championship, and you know, not so much from my prowess on the basketball court. But now from you know, be able to use in my mind and being able to use my motivational skills and understanding of the game to to to help someone else do it. So and might be my greatest attribute in today average thirty and night in two thousand and nine. Night, bro. Scored four hundred points in one year. That is remarkable injuries injuries man toward the end. I in the middle. You know, I lost. I lost a lot of games where I felt like if you know, I was able to play those games, and you know, and be consistent as I was for year to year that easy be sitting on twenty four twenty five thousand points right now, and that's pretty much shoot, you know, shoe in as hall of fame. So I just feel like, you know, injuries can rob some of the, you know, long term things that you know, that we kinda spy for but at the end of the day, like I said, you know, I think everything happens for a reason. And and that maybe that's why I'm still here still part of the game because of all those underlying things that that happen. Good, bad or indifferent. But but there why I'm still here. Well, I I tell you what it's been just such pleasure to spend this time, man. Like what like live enjoyed it, man. Thank you for having me. It is my pleasure. And you have a great one brother and hey, good luck in the head coach hunt. You're going to get appreciate man. I appreciate it. Thank you. I can't tell you guys. What how it how it feels fills up my tank to hear that kind of insight and that kind of storytelling from guy who like I say, he's only a couple years older than me. I think stack is maybe only a year or two older than me. But I just remember watching him as such a passionate college basketball fan and watching those do Carolina games and watching those North Carolina Virginia games and just what a dominant player he was. And what a dominant group of players. They were with him. And you heard him talking about Donald Williams in Rashi Wallace and all those gas and I wanted so bad to ask him. I didn't get the chance to ask him. 'cause I felt like I was I think Travis had had gotten Jerry for twenty minutes. And I think I'm already thirty. "Yeah. Man. Just the fact that they never won a game. When I was there. So that's what I take away from it. And we were they were a sheet and. At teams there for no. And but anger, actually that dad and that picture when Jeff Capel hit that three from half court, and I was standing right into the basket. And I had the perfect view of in that ball come in. You know, and funny thing everybody a lot of people think we lost that game on that shot. You know, they forget that we came into overtime, and Donna Williams, basically just with down away and took the game over and over time. But it was such a great rabbi we rob big they fought all the way back receive files out. Just just a great basketball game the bankerly ended in our favor. Donald Williams, wasn't assassin, Jerry. We We were. were. Hasty one of the biggest disappointment of in my, you know, my time they're not seeing him get drafted in NBA because at you know, probably if he'd left for year earlier, you know, at the being the most outstanding player in you know, interna the sophomore probably would have been a first round draft pick it had twenty year career fifteen twenty year career because of the way he shot the basketball. But because he came back got hurt his junior year. Dan, got banged up. Again, the senior year never really. The NBA didn't become a part of his life to feel like it. It could could have been you know, kind of bitter. Sweet, you know, when a guy drafted where she got drafted thirty four in the ninety five draft and not seeing, you know, down get drafted was was, you know, it was it was bittersweet happy excitement that we were going but see him at the sacrifice and then coming back and not come come to issue for him of of having NBA path was disappointing to say, the you noted a moment ago, the coach Smith is the greatest greatest of all time expound on his impact on your life. Jerry. What did that may and mean to your growth as a person, I think when it when it comes to my as a father figure absolutely when on that campus? You know, we know who who ran the show being Smith, and as far as growing up, obviously, I felt like my parents have done a great job raising me and. Coming someone who co Smith wanted to have a part of his program. And I think that from a basketball standpoint has being able to see the game and understand, you know, how he taught the game, you know, it translated to more so to the NBA game even to than college. I mean, I felt like we were really prepared because of the little things that might have details to just just being on time. Little details. He might have a meeting at four fifty four and not if I've o'clock at four fifty four saying just does things and making sure that you focus on being where you're supposed to be on time and doing your job, you know, playing a game a south Asli starting in the game with defense and your defense spark your office and different things like that. It was tough. My you know, that freshman year when we had that loaded team that had just come off of. Winning the national championship. And we have that group of myself or sheet, and Jeff McInnis says, you know, really touted high school class coming in. And the man it was it was a real battles there. So it was it was a opera tune ity for lessons to be to her because we didn't have to play because they were we were a deep team. So I think from that standpoint just being able to watch and and compete, and I think that's what you know, really stood out with coach he was just the fact of competing wanting to do everything he asked me to do he told me to run through, you know, those bleaches full speed out going to do it because I just believed in who he was as a coach and felt like he was would be telling me something to run through those bleaches as going to help me get better nothing all the guys that play for him kind kinda feel the same way on that same note with always heard he was the one guy that could stop 'em Jay from scoring. "I like to keep Mike up to up to speed on the the new music in the in the neighborhood see like. Like everybody's up to speed. So you know, we spend a lotta time yesterday talking about your Goffin Todd, Gurley, and Aaron, Donald, William. Sure. We'll touch on all that again today too. But we really didn't spend a whole bunch of time talking about how it's going to be different, four Sean McVeigh in second year, you know, because the team was so successful because they won eleven games because now they went to limit games, but they went eleven games on the heels of winning four games the year before they went from dead last in the NFL to number one in the NFL in points per game, they averaged nearly thirty points game twenty nine point nine and almost all of it is directly attributed to their rival Sean McVay and the offense that he brings in the innovation that he brought to this team. What should we expect for the second year? Because you know, if if everybody's you presume is going to get better the longer they do something. And that was his first years in NFL head coach. What are the expectations for moving forward while I mean, you look at the like you mentioned those those those numbers in. Wins. Two thousand fourteen was six, two thousand fifteen seven. Then we know the four win season of two thousand sixteen and in boom, you win eleven. So to me, was that coaching or was that players? Because a lot of people say, why didn't get the players that I wanted? You know, that would be the easy thing for coach to say, you know, it was kinda funny last year that at times people felt that Jeff Fisher was taking credit for what shows they don't all the time absolutely. Was he was trying to create, you know, we we really put the put them in a position, stop it. We knew what we have we drafted. Yeah. I mean, the one year you had him. He didn't look like, I know we didn't, but that being said, I think the expectations for this football team is you have to be better than you were a year ago, and I think that's we'll be with anything. How can you be better than you were a year ago? And the crazy part about it is this team may not win. Eleven games. That's just the way that I see it because the it's hard to win eleven game, patriots, make it look easy to go thirteen and three, twelve and four, but that's because of the division at their in. I mean, they're always going to be five and one six in their division. That's what they do. But I look at the Rams schedule this year and it. It's it's some tough places you gotta play or enough teams. You bring it on the division champ the SuperBowl champion, Philadelphia Eagles. You play Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers this year. You know, the forty Niners are going to be a tough out. I look at the Minnesota Vikings a team. That was, you know, a game away from playing. So to me, this team can win nine or ten games and still be better than they were a year ago, and that that's the honest truth because the pieces that they've added here Travis to me, they've upgraded. Now, people always say, Lascaux people ask me about what do you think about a wise anybody on the Jacksonville train because I didn't see you upgrade. Yeah, like you're good enough to get you to a conference championship game coda one and the could've won the gas to. What did you? What did you do to get better? You re signed a quarterback. Okay. Blake, Bortles Bortles wrote you loss receivers, you lost soul to me. What do you do in the off season to help you better your team? Kirk, you subscribe to the idea that you are either getting better or you're getting worse? There is, no, we're going to maintain where we are that the idea of rolling it again is not going to work that you are either making team better by changing things, adding things improving things or you're getting. Worse by staying the same or adding the wrong pieces if you're trying to stay the same. This isn't the NBA like sir teams in the NBA..

She's all right. In the midst of all that John and Yoko and Mike Douglas, they turn to something really serious. There's a disease in our society today that is a major concern. Sickle cell anemia and did affects special segment of the society. Here's a young man who is a medical student and is working on being a leading authority in the field, meet Donald Williams. Done Williams had been working with the Black Panther party. You've been helping them test people for sickle cell in the California area. And we walk out on stage. He's wearing a suit and he's carrying a black briefcase full of his medical books. Really came very well. I'm primarily a student. I have to keep books with me. I see what is study. So he settles into his chair and jumps right into this really thorough detailed explanation of what sickle cell anemia is the goes all anemia as a disease of the blood to inherited disorder. The only way it can be contract cannot be contracting. The only way it can be gotten through ready. Occurs primarily in blocks. It occurs in some Jewish populations. It occurs some Turks and it's you can tell he is struggling to keep it entertaining. The trait occurs when the person is only herited. One gene from one parent for production of global s. which is the AB normal hemoglobin in sickle cell and all you fellas with those medical terms really well. Well, the name talking about sickle cell anemia is not good television. It's not sexy. It's not interesting, and it was clear, certainly a few minutes and that Mike Douglas is a little bit uncomfortable because he's a TV man, and he knows this is not good TV. What is your goal. Goal is to educate the entire by population in this country about sickle cell. What having the trait means, how it's passed on how gets disease. Can prevent it only if you prevent people with the trait from having falling in love. Right. This interview is important because it's one of the best examples we have of this pivotal moment in the nineteen seventies when sickle cell became part of the national conversation. It had come a long way since the disease was first discovered in the west in nineteen. Oh four. That's when a doctor was looking at some blood under a microscope, sees these quote, peculiar along gated red blood cells. And what he theorizes is that this isn't just some kind of novel. It's an actual new disease. This is Keith way Lou. He's a history professor at Princeton. It's really from the nineteen ten through the twenties and thirties that clinicians start to identify these sickle shaped red blood cells as being linked to particular kinds of painful episodes and painful crises, and then early childhood mortality. A lot of physicians might not have been putting kids blood under the microscope. So when they saw kids with sickle cell cominh, they might not even known. It was one condition. They would see kids coming in with pneumonia and meningitis because sickle cell Rex. Immune system. There's also something called hand foot syndrome. And basically it makes babies fingers toes swell up, and it hurts so bad that sometimes babies will suck on their fingers and toes just to make them feel better. It's a really common symptom of sickle cell. But back in those early days, doctors may not have really known that researchers were just starting to figure out how this disease worked inch by inch and then income..
