"They fly out of the way. That's the deal. And they didn't and he ended up hitting a bunch of these birds and I kind of feel that is why we don't have a big brother traffic system. I mean with the smartphones. We have with the GPS technology. The I pass toll collection. It could be that if you get from one toll booth to the next or toll sensor. They don't really have as many booths anymore. But you know you could automatically get a ticket because you're not supposed to go from one hundred fifty nights straight one to sixty third street one x amount of minutes and you know it could be that we could have these automated devices just issuing tickets left and right everywhere but that's not the deal we have in our society. There's IT's expected that most people will behave safely most of the time. If someone's doing something crazy or agree GIS like that. Spate of hundred mile an hour plus tickets. We heard that the state police was issuing think we talked about that a few months ago. Fine that you know. That's something that should be addressed. And that is worth investing the human capital of an actual state trooper police officer going out there to enforce that but I think that you know there's a reason we don't have a sort of totalitarian surveillance state that monitors everything every moment of driving compliance with the law. Just because as we were all saying I think that you know you have to allow it. Just have a little more allowances for the EBB and flow of of everyday travel. And it's just not the society. I think any people wanna live in but when we all have autonomous vehicles we won't have to worry about it. Let me move on We did mention corruption involved with red light cameras. And there's a broader look at ethics in state government right. Now Hannah. There's a commission that's been formed has a lot of People who have been around government a long time who are involved with this commission. They've met met again this week. Anything going on with that at this point as far as and we know of legislation or are they singling out any type of area that they want to try to improve on. Yeah we've seen I think it's been five meetings of this drank commission on ethics and lobbying reform They face a march thirty first deadline to present a report to the governor on and legislative leaders on suggested changes to state law to kind of root out corruption and tighten up other areas of ethics law. this The latest meeting this week was mercifully of a lot shorter than the other. Almost five our meetings we've seen it was about like it can to people hold the elective office at the same time. I think especially those of us who are not Super familiar with like some of the tiny southwest suburban towns like when the FBI raided. Cook County Commissioner. Just Topolski's town in September. Everyone kind of learned that. Oh not only is he you commissioner to Cook County. Also the mayor of this tiny little town called summit similarly state Senator Steve Landeck. He's the mayor of Bridgeview and then we also have a Newish STATE REPS. That was sworn in last summer. A Republican from Rosemont Red Stevens. Who has been mayor of? Rosemont for about the last decade or so in his father had been the original mayor of Rosemont Donald Stevens Donald Stevens Convention Center Rosemont for Fifty Years. And so they're basically. The commission heard like is it is inherently wrong is inherently bad and it seems like the Constitution and most of Illinois Statute has a pretty lousy fair approach. You know as long as those two offices don't conflict than it's fine but of course it's what does conflict mean are their contracts to be had. Are there any number of things can come up in so no one's really watching this thing? I think there was a question to a representative from the attorney. General's office like. Are you guys being proactive? And the answer was will hay with eight thousand units of Local Government Illinois by far the most of any state in the nation. And we can't really be watching all the time you know there's just it's impossible and so this was the latest hearing there's been One touching on other areas of government ethics laws and. I guess we'll just see there's another month until that report is due and then I guess legislation will have to come out of it. Let me move on as well because there's some other legislation that we've been following this week and I call it sex education at the start of the show Brian but they've been giving it some different names and there are a couple of at least I don't want to call him competing bills out there but there's some different legislation that would Try to accomplish some similar things. Yeah and they they refer to it as health education but I think that you know the the emphasis is on what I think those of us who grew up a decade or so plus ago would call sex education and what is different about. What at least one of the big proposals. That got a lot of attention this week. Because of a a news conference in the capital It's called the reject. It won't get into the acronym but basically it would mandate comprehensive age appropriate sex or health education in public schools for Grades K through twelve and a couple of things interesting interesting about that one it. The idea is making it mandatory. Currently there's language in statute that says schools may have this. This would change it to schools shall have it and the idea of making it in all grades is something different and again the they do emphasize age appropriateness so for kids in kindergarten through grade to it would be looking at things like personal safety. Identifying trusted adults the children's can go to and and and respecting each other. It as you get a little bit older grades three through five. There's more talk about healthy relationships and bullying and harassment even getting into puberty body image sexual orientation gender identity gender expression things like that and then in the as children really grow into young adults grades six through twelve. There's more talk about things like consent and harassment abuse violence as well as contraception and medication and sexually transmitted infections and how to prevent them so it would be comprehensive. There is another version of this legislation out there that would be all ages but would not have that mandatory component to it and I should add that parents at least under the first one would still have the right to opt their children out of this education if they did not want them to participate. Shirley anytime you use the word mandatory even if he does have that opt out provisions. It's always going to be controversial. Yeah and I think that was one of the arguments raised by representatives of School districts who said you know? We don't disagree with the idea. We think this is very good and children should be educated in these areas in an inappropriate way from the time they start school. But WHO's GonNa pay for is another unfunded mandate in the school district's have Lord? I don't know they. They have probably hundreds of them out there. They have to teach this. Teach that do this do that. And the state lays on them and then the state says. Yeah but we'RE NOT GONNA pay for you figure out how to pay for you. GotTa do it. But we're not going to help you financially on it and Brian I would imagine. A lot of schools do similar types of Curriculum right now but it may not be laid out the way that that this bill requires it and again it does not have that requirement that all the schools offer something. Yeah in some schools may but we certainly heard about some that. Don't and I think that one of the voices we used at the top of the show was a high school senior named trae. Graham who as Queer in the news conference this week and said that they did not get any of this sort of education about their sexual identity and healthy relationships and that sorta thing so there may be schools that are doing parts of this but the aim here is to make it standardized and comprehensive across the state but school districts would be able to tailor their own curriculum correct. Yeah I don't have the language of the bill in front of me. I think there would be some of that but there is a lot of there are a number of things that are sort of like this shelby. You know it will include in touch on these various things so I think the idea is that you know if if for example hypothetically if there's a more you know conservative area the state where these issues are not discussed as much in public discourse. I think that that you know the aim is to make sure that that education and Instruction is getting even into those places where people in the community might raise eyebrows about it. We've been watching the presidential race. Hearing a lot about prescription drug prices. There is a renewed effort at the Capitol to try to tackle these prices. Well of medications and Hannah some lawmakers. I believe they may have held a news conference on that this week. Right State Rep well. Chicago and our local state senator from Springfield Manar around Springfield. I should say They teamed up last year to do a bill. That basically kept insulin prices and they're teaming up again to try to create a state a new state board that would basically say the drug companies. Hey this is the Max the upper limit that Illinois will pay for you know x drug and go through a list of drugs that people depend on and they say it's not like mandatory that the drug companies would charge less than that. But you know there's a certain element of the power of shame saying like okay we are. We're saying that Illinois are not going to pay more than this and if this drug company does indeed Charge Illinois. Insert that much then. That's public pressure and then also part of the bill would be creating some sort of commission that would study the issue like we see you know we're going to have a blue ribbon panel to study the issue but you know this is really a big deal and I heard about a couple of other bills. Coming down the pipeline. That would try to reign. In the cost of prescription. Drugs will already tried to do similar things last year. But you know we were already doing a whole lot in springfield and but this is a perennial issue. It especially as the debate over healthcare in general rages on in the president at the Democratic presidential race. You know this is just a hot topic because it really really does affect people's lives and really only about a minute here left handed but I remember in the past there was discussions about drug buying clubs where maybe the steep would negotiate drug prices. All of that type of thing. We're not they're not talking about getting into things like that at this point. I've heard of an importation. Bill that would basically legalize formalize away that the state could buy drugs from other countries like Canada. But there are safety concerns with that even some of the groups that you would think might be onboard with that bill Are Really not because I got safety concerns. Let's go to our notes from the Field Shirley. Let's start with you. The Attorney Registration Disciplinary Commission is moving to Despouy Rod Blagojevich. Now you might think we'll heck. Didn't he lose his license when he was convicted No because the way it works is his law license was suspended until all appeals. Run out and his appeals ran out and the commission which oversees the disciplinary actions involving the legal profession is now moving to disbar him and it's likely that occur although takes Several months if they have they had a hearing this week and after the hearing it takes several months ago to make the decision but not to worry because Blagojevich is now offering videotaped messages for sales through a website. And if you WANNA pay fifty bucks seventy five bucks hundred bucks you could get blades Lucia happy birthday to one of your best friends or maybe one of your worst enemies..

"They fly out of the way. That's the deal. And they didn't and he ended up hitting a bunch of these birds and I kind of feel that is why we don't have a big brother traffic system. I mean with the smartphones. We have with. Gps technology. The I pass toll collection. It could be that if you get from one toll booth to the next or toll sensor. They don't really have as many booths anymore. But you know you could automatically get a ticket because you're not supposed to go from one hundred fifty ninth straight one to sixty third street one You know in X. amount of minutes and it could be that we have these automated devices just issuing tickets left and right everywhere. But that's kind of not the deal we have in our society. There's IT's expected that most people will behave safely most of the time. If someone's doing something crazy or agree GIS like that. Spate of hundred mile an hour plus tickets. We heard that the state police was issuing think we talked about that a few months ago. Fine that you know. That's something that should be addressed. And that is worth investing the human capital of an actual state trooper police officer going out there to enforce that but I think that you know there's a reason we don't have a sort of totalitarian surveillance state that monitors every every moment of driving compliance with the law. Just because as we were all saying. I think that you have to allow allowances for the EBB and flow of everyday travel. And it's just not the society I think people want to live in but when we all have tournaments vehicles you won't have to worry about it. Let me move on We did mention corruption involved with red light cameras. And there's a broader look ethics in state government right. Now Hannah. There's a commission that's been formed has a lot of People who have been around government a long time who are involved with this commission. They've met met again this week. Anything going on with that at this point as far as we know of legislation or the you know singling out any type of area that they want to try to improve on. Yeah we've seen I think it's been five meetings of this drank commission on ethics and lobbying reform. They face a march thirty first deadline to present a report to the governor on an legislative leaders on suggested changes to state law to kind of root out corruption and Tighten up other of ethics law In this The latest meeting. This week was mercifully of lot shorter than the other five. Almost five our meetings we've seen it was about lake it can to people hold the elective office at the same time. I think Especially those of us who are not a super familiar with like some of the tiny southwest suburban towns like way the FBI raided Cook County Commissioner. Just Topolski's town in September. Everyone kind of learned that. Oh not only is he commissure to Cook County. He's also the mayor of this tiny little town called summit similarly state Senator Steve Landeck. The commission heard like is it is inherently wrong inherently bad and seems like the Constitution and most of Illinois Statute has a pretty lousy fair approach. You know as long as those two offices don't conflict than it's fine but of course it's what does conflict mean are there contracts to be had? Are there You know any number of things can come up and so no one's really watching this thing. I think there was a question to a representative from the attorney. General's office like. Are you guys being proactive? And the answer was will hay with eight thousand units of Local Government Illinois by far the most of any state in the nation. We can't really be watching all the time you know there's just it's impossible and so this is the latest hearing there's been One touching on other areas of government ethics laws and. I guess we'll just see there's another month until that report is due and then I guess Legislation will have to come out of it. Let me move on as well because there are some other legislation that we've been following this week and I call it sex education at the start of the show Brian but they've been giving it some different names and there are a couple of at least. I don't WanNa call him competing Bills out there but There's some different legislation that would try to accomplish some similar things. Yeah and they they refer to it as health education but I think that you know the the emphasis is on what I think those of us who grew up a decade or so plus ago would call sex education and what is different about. What at least one of the big proposals. That got a lot of attention this week because of a news conference in the capital. It's called the reach act and we'll get into the acronym but basically it would mandate comprehensive age appropriate sex or health education in public schools for Grades K through twelve. And a couple of things are interesting about that one it. The idea is making it mandatory. Currently there's language statute that says schools may have this. This would change it to schools shall have it and the idea of making it in all grades is something different and again. The they do emphasize there's age appropriateness so for kids in kindergarten through grade to it would be looking at things like personal safety. Identifying trusted the children's can go to an and respecting each other. There is another version of this legislation out there that would be all ages but would not have that mandatory component to it and I should add that parents at least under the first one would still have the right to opt their children out of this education if they did not want them to participate surely anytime you use the word mandatory. Even if he does have that opt out provisions. It's always going to be controversial. Yeah and I think that was one of the arguments raised by representatives of school districts. Who said it you know? We don't disagree with the idea. We think this is very good and children should be educated in these areas in inappropriate way from the time they start school. But WHO'S GONNA pay for it it's another unfunded mandate and the district's have Lord. I Dunno they have probably hundreds of them out there to teach this. Teach that do this do that. And the state lays on them and then the states is. Yeah but we'RE NOT GONNA pay for you figure out how to pay for you gotta do but we're not going to help you financially on it and Brian I I would imagine. A lot of schools do similar types of Curriculum right now but it may not be laid out the way that that this bill requires it and it again. It does not have that requirement that all the schools offer something. Yeah some schools may but we certainly heard about some that. Don't think that one of the voices we used at the top of the show was a high school senior name. Trae Graham who identify as queer in the news conference this week and said that they did not get any of this sort of education about their sexual identity and healthy relationships and that sort of thing so there may be schools that are doing parts of this but the aim here is to make it standardized and comprehensive across the state but school districts would be able to tailor their own curriculum correct. Yeah I don't have the language of the bill in front of me. I think there would be some of that but there is a lot. There are a number of things that are sort of like this shelby it will include and touch on these various things so I I think the idea is that you know if if for example hypothetically if there's a more you know conservative area the state where these issues are not discussed as much in public discourse. I think that that you know the aim is to make sure that that education and Instruction is getting even into those places where you know people in the community might raise eyebrows about it. We've been watching the presidential race. Hearing a lot about prescription drug prices. There is a renewed effort at the Capitol to try to tackle these prices as well of medications and Hannah Some lawmakers I believe they may have held a news conference on that this week right. State Rep will already from Chicago and our local state senator from Springfield. Andy Manar around Springfield. I should say. They teamed up last year to do a bill that basically capped insulin crisis and They're teaming up again to try to create a new state board. That would basically say the drug companies. Hey this is the Max the upper limit that Illinois will pay for you know x strug and go through a list of drugs that People depend on and You know they say it's not like mandatory that the drug companies would charge less than that. But you know there's a certain element of the the power of shame saying like okay we are. We're saying that Illinois are not going to pay more than this and if this drug company does indeed charge Illinois that much than That's public pressure and then also part of their bill would be creating some sort of commission that would study the issue like we see all the time we're going to have a blue ribbon panel to study the issue but you know this is really a big deal and I. I've heard about a couple of other bills. Coming down the pipeline. That would try to reign in the cross. Prescription drugs will already tried to do similar things last year. But you know we were already doing a whole lot in springfield and but this is a perennial issue especially as the debate over Healthcare in general redesigned in the president at the Democratic presidential race. This is just a hot topic because it really really does affect people's lives and really only about a minute here left hand but I remember in the past. There was discussions about drug buying clubs. Where maybe the state would negotiate drug prices? All of that type of thing. We're not they're not talking about getting into things like that at this point. I've heard of an importation. Bill that would basically legalize formalize away that the state could By drugs from other countries like Canada but there are safety concerns with that and even some of the groups that you would think might be on board with that. Bill are really not because of safety concerns. Let's go to our notes from the Field Charlie. Let's start with you. The Attorney Registration Disciplinary Commission is moving to Disbar Rod Blagojevich. Now you might think we'll have. Didn't he lose his license when he was convicted No the way it works is his law. License was suspended until all his appeals. Run out and his appeals ran out and the commission which oversees the disciplinary actions involving the legal profession is now moving to despire him and it's likely that occur although takes several months after they have. They had a hearing this week in after the hearing. It takes several months to goes to make the decision but not to worry because Blagojevich is now offering videotaped messages for sale through a website. And if you WANNA pay fifty bucks seventy five bucks one hundred bucks. You could get to Lucia happy birthday to one of your best friends or maybe one of your worst enemies..

"Motorcycle show at the Donald Stevens convention center coming up on February fifteenth through the seventeenth and guys. I know I was gonna ask you here watching basketball last night. But I'm sure you're watching the alliance of American football flipped on for a minute or two for the thing the difference between this and looking at other debunked tries at trying to compete with the NFL's. This is not competing with it. It is blatantly out there for you that it's football. But hopefully, some of these guys can move onto the next level. It's not gimmicky. It's just minor league football and football's great my book, just like pizza, all pizza's. Good all football's. Good, and it was interesting. I didn't set lock deigning glued to it. But it wasn't a didn't come across as a farce. Right. Like the XFL comes across as a joke. But this game. Across football. And hopefully, maybe you get a guy. That's a Walt Disney story in the in the end. And maybe he makes it to the NFL and maybe wins there. Out of that outside of that. It was just football. Yeah. I mean, I saw some of the highlights on Twitter. I saw that quarterback. Get crushed. I don't know his name, but two of them. Yeah. There's some. Here's the thing that there's really bad offensive lineman. Like, that's what that is. Like guys are coming on blocked off the edge and just destroying quarterbacks. And there are some gimmicks. Like they've got the replay official like up in up in a secluded likes. It looks like a sweet. So I have to go to the eye in the sky and our river on we go we have the person right there. So there are ways to be like, look, look our officials are right here. They all they have to they have a replay official, then they have the sky judge and this judge can just make decisions which is what I've been yelling for in baseball for years. Just sits upstairs in those wrong player. The referees missing the sky judge can buzz down and say, hey, you guys missed that call there's passenger fares there. There's a holding on this. And that and that's very. Cool because this way you don't have to stop the action, and they don't stop the action the sky judge just make the call. What stuff they missed, but the key is that type of thing that is not gonna keep your attention and auctioning this football league. The reason you'll watch it is because you like the sounds of football in the background and you like to see guys trying. That's the difference gets my attention is if the XFL just embraces the gimmick and they have like the Joaquin Phoenix from gladiator up in the replay booth and just like you get the thumbs up thumbs down. And then the crowd just goes nuts. Then then I'm buying in. Because if you fully embrace the gimmick amid if you just try to you know, half acid a little bit. And you're like, oh, look we've got a replay judge. You can see them the right here. It's I don't care. Yeah. The the one thing I liked a lot is that the kickers rain all field goals every. Tweet. There was this guy Hagman who was kicking for the Mike March team ended up losing. I think by every time. Was there named Mike Martinez squad was was that San Antonio? What were the commander? They were. I think they were they were losers. I think right. So they were the San Diego fleet the fleet. That's all right. Because they all look like fake Madden teams. So I'm just trying to figure that out. Why the we didn't see the Orlando Apollo's the Atlanta of legends. That was a forty two six game. We're Steve Spurrier into Phillies special. Yes, right off the bat, which was nice to see if I can watch the ball coach coach again, I'm totally down for that. Listen, we're not Sunday morning. We're not gonna sit here over hyped something that's going to look as the network just did it for like the last hour. Here's the thing. Don't lie to the people. Like, I if you're looking to watch some football. I'm sure the ratings probably did pretty well. Saturday night. But I play again today the right again today, there's two games today. It is it is what it is. There's nothing like you're not it's not competing. This is in wizard USA USO USFL. Would didn't Steve Young playing that? There were playing in that league because they were trying to merge. ABC with the NFL. So like, it's not that. Right. Like, you're not gonna see Todd Gurley out there. You're not going to see the next disgruntled star Abyan bell over there playing for some commanders truly. Yeah. In the summer it travels around and every once in a while star will show up. Show. With not jet, scrubs. They're not shown up to the YMCA and playing three on three like there. It's kind. It's a league that travels around. They this is like Todd Gurley is coming in and guests getting extra care. Halftime of the bulls game. I was watching exclusively this football, right? There were a lot of drop passes and a lot of bad throws bad football. So like those backtra scared for their life. Yeah. It's still it's still football. So it's nice to have it on in the background. But you're not going to sit around going. Oh, man. I'm to break down this play. Who is number eighty two on the commander in? That's exactly what I did. I had on the second team. The polls gave out ahead of the second team. Give us your four takeaways from from what you saw last night. The AUSSIE dollar brought up the biggest part the offensive line's just like you. Dude, he missed his assignment so bad. He's blocking nothing. Yeah. Choke. NFL blitz. It looks like live NFL, and it's just like you said, it's the bad life. They were throwing a lot of balls up for grabs. I mean the one game the San Antonio San Diego game ball teams at interceptions in the end zone. It could have been more of a scoring game. One of the guys made an interception yesterday was a guy that actually was just cut by the bears at the end of camp and he made an interception. So there are guys is funny. And what other guy we're not gonna talk about you about this? What if the people wanted people wanna talk if they want to talk about it? That's fine. But. Well, they do and some people suggested what would you think of this? What would you think of all of the guys that were on practice squad for the NFL being able to play in this? It should be able to get better. You guys mentioned kicker like the one kicker for one of the teams one of the teams. They were like, yeah, he was on. He was on the chart are going to get jobs off coup. Atlantic kicker the first points at thirty eight yards. I feel like people are gonna get jobs offer this next season in the NFL. You will hear from the A F. Yeah. I think it's also notable that some of these guys who maybe you could not have gotten gigs as a GM or a code or coach again, most of the guys that were previously professional coaches, or like Riley was a coach in college. I think it's interesting that it's a full football prep to maybe get back into the NFL. He wanted to as a GM or whatever the case may be. So it's all interesting to me. Also, did you guys notice the crowd in San Antonio? Here's my question was that free was the stuff handed out free because. I I buy gear by a bull shirt, and I'll buy bears hat in this that and the other day Antonio commandos like did you see the fans in the stands people were in jersey jersey, are you buying? I'll tell you this. I had a lot of enforcers gear. None of it was paid for C. Everyone that showed up last night. Did you get handed a free piece of new memorabilia? Get your ticket. You get a scarf, and you get a jersey like I find it hard to believe that they announced this league and people ran out to Dick's sporting goods by buying up gear before this league, even started but props to the people of San Antonio because that crowd was into it John with h on Twitter wants to know if Alabama could beat the Atlanta legends. So we've already got that. Well, yes. Because so that's it's NFL teams Alabama af team. Yeah. At half of college football and. Okay. Who let scoreboard Oklahoma or the Atlanta? A couple of calls for people that were last night. Had some interesting, and we gotta burbenay Joe Joe, you're on ESPN two thousand what's going on. Good morning, boys. Just I think it was blacked out some about the draft passes at halftime of the San Diego San Antonio game. Kurt Warner would stay billion thirty days to really practice. I'm trying to sit here and think without training camp without meaning camp with all this stuff. I'll good way to you know, the bears the cheese the patriots. I'll look after thirty days. And also you're starting curiosity. What's he like the average salary? Would you? Fires. They all get paid the same thing from what I heard they all make the same amount of money. I heard all boy. Okay. And my other thing was like, I just thought about this. What if like this could turn into like an actual minor league for the NFL like safe Springer? A career that could use some red send him down to like you're saying in Tokyo billion. You know, what I'm saying like with baseball to be awesome for like a and layers and somehow possibility. Well, you know. Squad. This is this is a long play for the af to then be bought by the NFL. Right. Like, they do this. Right. Yeah. The NFL may purchase them, and then may have affiliated teams with other teams. Right. Like, that's how the G league is work the G league at I was just a league owned by the league, and then affiliated NBA team started pairing up, and then they could use that for their minor league team just like baseball, Fred. So like, I could see couldn't you guys see five to ten years if this league works the NFL saying, this is a good investment for us in our product wool buy you out because then we can have your TV rabbi, right because you're putting up you're putting up ratings against NBA games in college basketball. But we don't have anything to put out there. Now, all of a sudden, the NFL's a twelve months sport. And you have all the rights going to the NFL. And then you could do that. Well, bears could purchase the San Antonio commanders. And then that could be their squad that they send all the practice squad players. Maybe an Adam Shaheen could be the start on there. Because he can't do anything up here. The Arizona fall league. The Arizona fall league right now there's like six teams from baseball and sixteen guys to one Arizona fall. Somebody else. Maybe they would do the same thing with the NFL here last year. They said the average salaries are going to be seventy five thousand per season, which isn't bad for. Well. That's okay. That's what I'm thinking though. What Wendy you get the kid that goes, I'm not going to college?.

"I know I've dark side and meeting in a good way that if I need to crack the whip or if I have to get on these guys will let them know that they need to be checked out. Check them. We'll also we're gonna if I see that they're handling business. They take care of business and they're doing things right way. Let's have fun. That's why we're doing it. So there is there's both of those. And and to me that's just me being me and cap in company with David Catholic on ESPN one thousand. Danke talking this week. And if you saw Matt Nagy the quick cut away after one of the. On the field goal or extra point. You could tell the Matt Nagy had a dark side because they looked at. It was one of the few times this year his mouth wasn't moving and he wasn't smiling humanity. If that if those kicks cost them, the Geico may be a whole different vied to this. We are not kidding. He may not be on the team. Who knows? Yeah. By the way, we have our winters for the contest. Thanks a lot for jumping out in Chicago sports, spectacular this weekend Donald Stevens convention center, and Ben zobrist warming up that hand because he knows the lobby lining up to get those cub autographs Benz O'Brien stars at that event. Freddie. So I did some homework, and you know, one of the themes of this show for me has been sort of offense. I've been talking about the offense in the NFL and everything did we say campus off its Jesse and Fred kind of obvious. Well. You haven't heard you're better than that yet. That might be coming. Yeah. You haven't heard any of those things are all covered. I want to get people's opinions. Three one two three three two three seven seven six as well as yours. Fred, you can tweet me at ESPN shy cubs as well. Again, three one two three three two three seven seven six. I can't be the first person with this take. But I guess maybe I've watched more sports since the baseball season ended than most people because early for you other than the GM meetings. I've been on my couch. Watching everything. Okay. Sorry, Joel Quenneville starting to see co- bulls. Everything been watching everything and scoring is up scoring is up everywhere. I don't know if people have noticed this if you're a casual fan or you're not a fan of another sports in the NFL per team. Just from last year. It's up a field goal. Twenty four points. Twenty one last year in the NBA. It's four points per team won ten this year one. Oh, six last year in the NHL it's up well little bit three point eight goals per game per team last year, two point nine seven. But it crossed that three goals per game scoring up everywhere except where in baseball baseball scoring is down four point six five per runs per game last year down to four point four five. Now, I think in using the word THEO used at the GM meetings in this whole troll millennial world, we live in people like scoring people like entertainment. And there's a reason maybe the NFL is now back in popularity the NBA skyrocketed, and I think people probably enjoy the NHL product war was scoring. But we know there's some of these issues with baseball. What's your take on all that why why do in this in one calendar year? Three sports have gone up. Don't you think the analytics in baseball are are out there? Limiting. They're actually limiting the scoring in baseball. They're all out there to try and prevent runs scored. I mean, the shifts and things like that. I was reading the story out of Sports Illustrated about Bryce Harper, and we we're not going to get into the whole story. But it talks about Bryce Harper in two thousand eighteen he was shifted. Nearly fifty two percent of the time which turned plenty of pulled would be singles into outs. And you know, you you take all these things away from players. I mean, you have to relearn some of the game. The pitchers are getting better pitchers are coming in throwing faster than they've ever thrown before throwing harder. The pitching changes have been made. So there are fewer run scored. I think the analytics are one of the things bringing scoring down in base. Yeah. And there's only so much..

We're seeing that more and more in the industry. Women in the industry. Have you seen things change in terms of the metoo movement? Kind of what goes on behind the scenes? Well, you know, it's been a lot of things that were inappropriate and not right. And you know, a lot of questions that we had to learn, you know, and I'm certainly not about the point anybody. But I think women have made it very clear that there are serious, and they need to be taken seriously, and they deserve to be taken. Seriously. They bring so much to everything that we are. And so I think Finally I think we're getting if that this is not just a fad. Yeah. No, it's time for change and and gets here. So I'm excited about you know, the possibilities. And I think we're all you know, better when we're when we're all included. Marginalized and not. Yeah. I think that the metoo movement is gonna take part of. You know that? You're going to be in town, August twenty three to twenty six wizard were Donald Stevens convention center. It's a great venue. What is that like? What's it like when you have people dressed as you in different characters? And if you're not in costume, you're kinda, you know, the long person out, but people waiting experience like. You know, it's the cons, and this sort of thing, I think it started probably in the early nineties. It wasn't before and for actors like myself, and a lot of people who maybe it shows, you know, twenty years ago and now they're not working. It's a chance for them to come out and meet people who not just remember that work. But really, you know, love the and like you said dress up as them in character. I mean, people appreciate the movies, and you know, the comic books and animation. It's really incredible. And it gives us a chance to to leave Hollywood where we kinda not always appreciated and meet the people who have seen. I was in Knoxville, Tennessee. And there were a lot of people who knew every single thing I've done all the way back to the very beginning theater. It's always impressive and shocking to me. So it's great to be loved. And and it's great to meet people who love the movie genuinely love. You know, the work. You do amazing work. We're happy that we're happy to have you back in Chicago. What's one of the first things you're going to do when you're back here? Well, I think well I have a cousin who was like a sister to me, and I'm coming back in time to to see her she's been going through some health issues. But and then. Yeah. I want to get downtown. And I just want to you know, hopefully, have a little time in the city. But of course, once the doors open, it's you know, it's kinda nonstop. Yeah. You're not gonna go away and have pizza and walk along the river walk. I don't take. But I, but I, but you know, actually, I may I'm starting a new series the following week. But I have a few days, and I think my brother is gonna come and we will get a chance to hang out in Chicago duties after this. So I'm looking forward to that. Very cool. Can you tell us about the new series? Yeah. It's called LA finest with Gabrielle union, and Jessica Alba starring in it. I play Gabrielle Union's, dad. It's sort of a spin off from the bad boys movie with Will Smith and launch the second one Gabrielle played lot my lunch sister. And so on their dad who's who's a bit of a jerk. But that's okay. People in that series. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm the dad of Gabrielle's. Yeah. But. It'll be fun. Yeah. It'd be fun to uh and we'll start shooting right after the Holiday Inn. We the pilot and. It's always a lot of fun. It's always fun to to work and work with good people. I love both of them. And it's a good cast and. We'll do thirteen episodes. And we'll see what happens. Well, we'll be like. Well, thanks. I appreciate that. Thank you Ernie. Come back and see us next time. We'll see in a couple of weeks. Okay. And we look forward to come down because chance come to the convention, and, you know, say oh, we will be there. Thanks, ernie. Take that guys. All right. We'll see you as awesome crater. Dresses earning. Oh, he's the best. Okay. I'm not exaggerating. So last time he came in, you know, sometimes they'll be a celebrity in studio and people come out take a picture, he aligned comedy going out the door, and I get text all they tell her any high. And that is no small thing. He's so nice. And he's so down to earth. What you see is what you get with him. So go see Ernie Hudson. Again, it's wizard world comic. Con August twenty third through the twenty six of the Donald Stevens convention center in Rosemont. We'll be back after this on WGN Thomas. Jefferson should supreme court.

"Is one of the most exciting events cans down in Chicago wizard world comic con coming to the Donald Stevens convention. Center in Rosemont August twenty third through the twenty six and we are extremely, excited to, have the president the CEO the main guy of wizard world comic con John matter. With us on the line I John How are you, I am, great this is we are everybody here is very site for this year show by. The way Hoping tastic coming to Chicago how. Come tell start start us with. Chicago loves wizard world comic con and what are you guys like about Chicago so much Chicago is where it all. Started I the the Chicago com account. Started like in? Nineteen seventy two. And wizard world got involved in the late nineties it is always extraordinary event in Chicago The fans come out. It'd be Donald Stevens convention center. Is an extraordinary facility the Stevens family is hospitable in great and we always have the best show of the year. In Chicago the no questions about it Hit it, a great city we love dressing up. For this I mean I. Love driving past I don't live too far from there. I love driving past and see and, everyone in their costumes and you're talking little kids babies all the, way up to seniors plus Yeah it's a really wide eclectic demographic becomes a lot of families come lot of children shoe gem out of costumes it's. Electric titled energy that takes. Place at these conventions and I really think that it's the world has gotten more digital we all? Live are kind of insular. Cellphone lives that the have a. Communion of, experience like business is. Always fantastic and Chicago's among the best. John no wonder woman big avengers what are some of the, other themes that you expect, to see people dressed up as this year As we travel across America we do see a lot of wonder woman around Spiderman is always present any any cost you from pop culture. That you can think of. We'll be represented and there's a lot of creativity p people I've seen dogs dressed up as dragons It'd, be, be creativity. Of of the American fans it's? Extraordinary and advantage mccosh rooms? They, wear so that's part of the show seeing seeing, our fellow convention goers in full regalia wizard. World comic con really is the best, in pretty much everything John pop culture movies television gaming live entertainment when does it become so big. When did it go from say movies and TV all the. Way to live entertainment comics and SCI Well you know the reality is that in American pop culture there, are a lot of. Different phantoms twenty three twenty five thirty phantoms of people are are very much into what they're, into and they're really transcendent they transcend the boundaries. Of the platform the, what's on cable or. Netflix Hulu broadcast television films so it's it's really a wide palette prostitutes from and we try. To have a little something for everybody and in addition. To dealing with, providing, something, for, the fans. In their phantom we have live? Entertainment we have an entertainment? Stage, where creative stage where Cato Calin you come who is a fantastic I'm sure everybody's heard his name and he's. An extraordinary friendly individual who talks to, go fans take pictures so we we have a real. Entertainment kind of event going on the very broad is more of a pop culture kind of bizarre that. Goes on as opposed to a true parochial kind of comical it really is, in fact I interviewed. Kato last year he came in studio and he was a Larry as, he is so charismatic Oh he's the greatest guy in the world, and when. You hear, his name you don't know him you don't know what to expect he he's the greatest while he's from Milwaukee and his greatest guy in the world yet big Chicago fan as well I. Think after this. Job of, course you have one of. The coolest jobs how did you get to be the CEO of wizard world Well I was, I spent twenty nine years at Warner Brothers who've. Backyard bar partner with Tribune for many years the WB network Yeah And then I went on to become the CEO of the CW. Network and so a lot of the shows we put on the, air, Dan the, the the, talent the stars are coming to wizard world style for Buffy the vampire slayer smallville vampire. Diaries so that was that was kind of a natural product for what I'm. Doing and I joined the board of. Wizard and then in time the the CEO went on to do other. Things so I send it to that and it's the greatest experience at traveling around America talking to fans meeting. People it is the greatest experience in the world to do this year. Also. Yeah, no go. Ahead. John When I was at the when I was at the, WBZ for example the closest I got. The fans was seeing the Nielsen ratings on my blackberry morning right now. Now this is a visceral fandom and I love it do you dress up do you ever put put a. Mask on or a costume kind walked the halls and people have no. Clue, who, you are. Obviously I'll tell you in a way I'm dressed up because I'm the only one there in a sport. Coat I stand out I the sore thumb You're also the director of one of my favorite restaurants trader Vic's which has been. A staple here in Chicago for years Yeah it was it was in the bottom of the, the house, for years and years. We opened one on rush, street that one didn't work trader trader Vic's it's, one of you know it's one of my. I grew up with creative extremely since I, was eight years old. And I I am still very active in trail. Mix there are thirty of them around the world and I love it I'd love to come back Chicago with a. Well we want you to come back and we're.
