More dystopian gaming reports from the team that strung together a Minecraft project on the blockchain. It kind of turned out the way you would expect, quoting rest of world. After interest in axie infinity collapsed following a plummeting in game economy and a $620 million hack, many players moved to other play to earn games, including critters. Critters hoped to address one of the primary criticisms, axie infinity faced, that players were motivated much more by profit than by a desire to play the game itself. As the game alone simply wasn't compelling enough. We just had an idea. What if you can make an existing game play to earn Emerson Shay a cofounder of critters told rest of world? Minecraft isn't established game that we know people want to play and quote. For a while it worked, some critters players told rest of world that at one point they were earning more than a $100 a day playing the game, at its peak, it had around 2000 daily players, some of whom enlisted other players to help build their in game empires for a cut of the crypto they earned. But as with axie infinity, once the game became more popular, the value of its crypto token began to drop, worth 85 cents at its peak in January, it had decreased to around three cents by May. But the depreciation was gradual and many players continued playing and building. Then, on July 20th, in a post on the Minecraft website, developer mojang studios dropped a bombshell. Minecraft would not support integrations with NFTs. If stories like that make your blood boil, maybe check out the coverage of the no coiner conference that was held recently in London, I believe, it's the first conference of people that are, let's say, skeptical of the blockchain quote. It was the final evening of the two day crypto policy symposium in London and a group of crypto skeptics had gathered in a club in Marley born to drink free Prosecco and conspicuously not sell each other crypto tokens. I was surrounded by guys who were the exact inverse of your usual crypto broke conference goer. They wore corduroy trousers, worked in IT and looked like your dad. They were called Martin, and they came armed with evidence based research, sober policy proposals and empirical entirely uncontroversial perspectives on market structure. We're getting more organized and more powerful and this conference is a testament to that said deal a virulent online critic of crypto and chief organizer of the conference. When she found one's worth putting on the homepage, she would add them to YouTube's featured videos banner, which stacked small frames of videos on a column of ten. Her team swapped those slots every four hours, giving YouTubers behind the videos they selected a guaranteed cascade of views. Before Donald Glover was a celebrity Harper promoted a comedy sketch in which he mocks an old hip hop pose, the B boy stance, some picks showed up in wider pop culture, Harper discovered a music video with a catchy, whistling hook from a band called Peter Bjorn and John, a week later, Drew Barrymore wore the band's T-shirt on Saturday Night Live. Not many people know this, but early on in its life, Yahoo literally had hundreds, maybe even as many as a thousand employees whose sole job was adding new websites to the Yahoo directory, but that was kind of the thing. Yahoo was for a long time, a curated directory, not an automated index. And you wonder why culturally Google was able to beat Yahoo. "I will say, I don't use my resources enough. I don't call in favors. I'm not going to ask Kyle to do anything. I'm not going to ask this person to pause this person. Until I get that mega offer or that I'm on the line, I'm one of three for The Tonight Show. Then I'm going to say, pick up that phone. Like, we are in a telethon. And I'm going to call everybody that I know. Exactly. Yeah, because you're in your mind, you're like, I'm going to get one. I only get one, so I'm going to use that one favor that one ask, even if you get more, it's good to go into it thinking that you get one and just use it for your best reason. 100%. I think that's yeah, yeah, you do it. Well, Zoë Kravitz also struggles with being the daughter of famous parents. Friend and fellow actor Donald Glover told Wall Street Journal magazine that he knows Zoey feels the pressure to separate herself from Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz. And that's hard to make a name for yourself. Zoe is an actress and a director, regardless of how good her work is, can she ever really separate herself from those names? I just think that's going to be so. I mean, first off, her name is Zoë Kravitz. Kravitz. He was so private. I think that she is an actress and gorgeous in her own entity. Yeah. I'm right, but it's hard to escape. I don't think she is that great because of her parents, but it's hard to escape that. I feel like she should embrace that. We're all. I think she already escapes it. I think that people have, if you look at how people write articles. I always say like, if she is Zoë Kravitz and they say, oh, look who hit the red carpet. The daughter of lady Emma. Zoë Kravitz. Or the next time it's like, oh, Zoë Kravitz, who's the daughter of the frame now. The further the daughter of the story. The more you move on. Right. And now if you read articles about her, or you see a blur. They don't even mention her parents name. But I get it. It's insecurity of hers that keeps on coming back. I'm sure that you have had an insecurity about being Stephanie Tanner from full House. Of course. And you go through your whole life going, I know this is both a blessing and I'm sure she's like, look, I mean, it's great to be like Kravitz and Lisa Bonet's daughter in some regard, but also like for, you know, at times you're like, but I just want to be my own person, you know? And yeah, Stephanie Tanner is brought all kinds of amazing opportunities, but sometimes you go, but I'm not just that, it's not. There's a bigger, there's a bigger person there. I mean, it's kind of interesting that we're coupling these stories together because this really is the opposite of nepotism, because I think if you're going to get the role for your famous mom or your famous dad, that's great, that's an advantage. But if you don't deliver, everyone is always going to know that you got it from your famous parent and they're always going to associate with you with that. And then you're going to have an insecurity the rest of your life. For sure. And there's definitely that darker side. And I don't think that's the case with Zoë Kravitz. No, not. Not at all. But. The way you walk in the door. Is usually the way you walk out. So for instance, let's say a lot of people use their relationships as collateral for fame. Right. And then ten years down the line, they say, why do you guys only care about who I'm dating? And it's like, because you use that as a strategy to become more famous. With Zoë Kravitz, again, nepotism isn't bad, but you kept Kravitz for a reason, you walk the red carpet with Lisa for a reason. I would have done the same thing. So now you have to kind of sort of live with it because you have to grab it. SLS needs. Right. And you're going to keep it popping. There are other celebrity kids who just decided, maybe I'm at my dad call in a few favors, but I'm not going to use the last name, and I'm going to keep it pushing. It probably took them a longer time to reach that level of fame, but that was a choice they made. And it was a choice you made as well. Hey, you have to accept the good with the bad. If you want to take advantage, there's our disadvantages to it. He's blessing and a cursor too. Always, always. There's benefits and there's pluses and minuses to it on both sides. You know what I mean? And you never know whether it's going to work in your favor. Like a great middle child. 100%. You know, when I started this show, I decided to drop Brady from my last name. My dad, Wayne would have overshadowed me. I almost thought you meant Tom Brady. That's okay. I am, and I was like, what? I was like, I was going Brady bunch, but that wasn't where you were. Three different types of hired me Wayne Brady is my dad. Coming up, the Hollywood couple who secretly split, plus Rachel bilson has me gasping the big reason she

"Like there's not like there's nothing like it's cool, it's safe, it's like, you know, you got to the end of the run. You know, without falling down, but I don't remember any of it. But it's also like everything he's saying in the episode feels like dog, you're only making an episode saying this because you know other people have said this before you for the past like 8 years, like these kinds of racial arguments. And it's also this sense, like to my original point, right? So the question of is the show still for niggas. It's like, look, man, this is classic sort of, you made an episode of TV, making white people feel guilty for feeling guilty for feeling guilty. It's just like, it's so clear to me that as much as sort of the pose of the episodes is like turning a critical eye to the white liberal. It's like, yeah, turning a critical eye with shit that, at the end of the day, the white liberal eats up. White liberals love watching TV that makes them feel guilty about slavery. Man. You know what it is? The lesbian couple in the three slaps what a fucking loved watching the three slabs. Like, that's kind of the trap. When you start making TV. There you go. They would have loved that. We do make our own soup. Yeah. They would love that shit. The white dude from the big payback. He would have been on The AV Club with the a plus that dude. You know what I mean? That's the answer to Donald Glover's question. And that's what's so frustrating about it. You got me good, yeah. You got me like the situation of like be like it would be like they would be like Bradley Whitford after you get out came out. They'd all be like, you know, yeah, you know, I am the whatever. Or Mads Mikkelsen of every other video. Yes, I have the bitch. But part of that, and maybe part of that is not even like part of that is bigger than me and Donald Glover and you, but it's still frustrating to watch somebody like make because again, it's a trap, I think a lot of people fall into, right? And past decade, right? Where it's like you think you think you're saying some shit to the white liberal and all you get and it's like they eat the shit up. And you made the episode in a way that you're only sort of raising these jokes in these critiques that you know these people, you know these people bought a copy at a Robin D'angelo book and they've heard it a million times at this point and they get off on it. And like, what did you really do? What did you really do with these episodes? Yeah. I already watched them. I already watched Lovecraft Country with a stop talking about Atlanta season three until we have. To do say in The Phantom Menace where he is like they lose Obi-Wan and qui gon and the trade minister dude is like, fuck, we fucked up..

"Is very not fire. In my sophisticated critical pronouncement. That shit is not what it's just not it's not doing it for me. And it's worsened by Donald Glover now running around like the riddler. The riddler on Twitch. Mad. Talking about NFTs. I don't really, yeah, man. I'm just bored of the whole thing right now. Episode three is good. So insomuch that it matters. Again, Atlanta is one of those things now that's going to be happening, whether you participate or not. But it's now the kind of show that is kind of in on its own jokes, how it's so impressed, whatever you want to call it, to the point where even we were talking about the slap thing and I don't think I mentioned this in the episode. The Will Smith slap one. I think that there was just sort of like amongst the hoopla of everybody being like, why you wait press Tupac like that. You know, like all that Chris Rock had to say it was just like, you know, did you see how he marched up here? I'll see you next time. Whatever the fuck the jokes that people are making. Donald Glover pops up in all lower case lovers and goes fine. We'll make one more episode. Because they had already announced that now the frame of reference for that is that you would have to know that Atlanta, the currency is in Atlanta is part of a two part final season and that this is technically the final season, but also the third season at the final season is coming, and that will be the last season of Atlanta. And that this is the kind of thing that the show would comment on. And that this is like, you know, like it's just sort of like, hey, parting the chaos to say, we'll do one more episode. Fine, to explain what's going on, you know, right now, to who is like really like the tone of that tweet was just like kind of the thing that we were describing of like, why was it that deja pill addressed the nation before the president elect? It's just like, why is Donald Glover supposed to be the person that we're going to to make sense of the slap?.

"You know, you know he has some fire in here. Like you know he has some descents in him about some shit. And it feels like there are so many hedges specifically in the reparations episode, the big payback, where it's like, he's trying to leave, there's a version of that episode that maybe would feel like it was more challenging to more sub factions of people, but it's almost like all the rough edges that could have existed on that episode got sanded it off. So people wouldn't get mad at him or something. Like, I don't know. You brought up that interview magazine piece. We want to just sort of explain what that even is. So listeners real quick. He interviewed himself for interview. Yeah, he himself. He had to view himself. It was weird. There were some very nice photos and some ones that were strange. That, you know, we will look back on in time probably in the fullness of time with some sort of new clarity, whatever, but the same time, there's nothing in the interview that's like worth exploring. Well, okay. I read the interview and I feel like relative to lots of other people I saw commenting on it. Like I thought it was entertaining enough. I mostly feel frustration with the sense of like, I mean, but no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. This is like, it's like, no, I won't even. I refuse to even engage with it because of because this is like the entire problem with what's going on with Atlanta at the moment. It's just sort of totally insular and not in conversation with anything at all. It exists for Donald by Donald and it's not really, like I said, it's just like his thing at south by Southwest after saying, this is going to be as good as The Sopranos. It's just like, what was the writing process of this? We sat around a hotel somewhere and Eastern Europe and pitched around stories. And the premise for this season was like, what are some good short stories that I would want to hear? Or that I would want to see on television. And that's what the fuck we got. It's just that none of those stories are really interesting to me. The person that's watching it or consuming it. I almost don't believe they're interesting to him. That's the thing. It's so hard. Listen, if it is, or if it isn't, or whatever the position, it's like, I don't care. I don't care how you slice it. Donald Glover interviewed by Donald Glover for interview magazine is annoying as fuck. That's just what it is. You know it. I know it. You could just say it. There is, it's like you didn't like fundamentally nothing that you can learn from something like that because nothing is being interrogated. What's being shared is what is what he wants is what he wants to reveal. And that is that doesn't help anyone. No, but that doesn't help bring any sort of I think that interview though is of a piece of what you were we were talking about like his Twitter and his weird confrontational Twitter persona now, right? And to me, those are of a piece in the sense of Donald Glover has this problem where he is like a very clearly passive aggressive person who has mistaken himself for an aggressive aggressive person, right?.

"The NASA minute. With Kevin mason over the last 24 to 48 hours, the Internet has been freaking out just a little bit. Because some of their favorite television shows have announced the final seasons are coming near. Stranger Things getting ready to release season four has announced a two part season four and then season 5 and that's it. Now when we see season 5, I don't know because we haven't even seen season four yet, but everybody's freaking out. It's going to be ending. Same thing with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon. They announced the next season or is it the third season? I don't know. I don't watch. Well, it's going away. That'll be it and of course, because it's so popular. Everybody's freaking out there. And then Donald Glover announces his TV show on FX, Atlanta will be ending with its fourth season. The one thing for these shows, while I love them, they're so sporadic. I never know when they're coming. I know I watched Stranger Things when it first came out. Misses maisel don't watch it, don't care and Atlanta, love the first season, not so much the second season and well. I'm not sure if I'm going to go back and watch again. A lot of people's TV viewing habits going to be changing all because their favorite shows are going away.

"Up dan while said number three third one of the most anticipated or head-scratching reboots of the past couple of years of development has lost one of its most intriguing. Facets it was announced earlier this week that multiple emmy winner for fleabag. Phoebe waller bridge has exited. Amazon's update adaptation. Whatever you wanna call it of the brad pitt angelina. Jolie action thriller mr and mrs smith which she was supposed to star in opposite donald glover. This was something where when they made the actual formal announcement it shocked. Everyone and everyone was like ooh. I don't think i knew that i wanted that. Maybe it turns out. I want it and then this week they took the thing we didn't we wanted but decided we wanted away from us. What details can you provide about. What went down leslie. I tweeted a lot of news stories in my career. And when i shared news of this and both of them starring in reboot. I've never seen a tweet get so much pickup Maybe best performing tweet ever not that. I really pay attention to those things but it was kind of hard not to notice entire time. Line moving at the speed of light so anyway yes so basically it was creative differences here From everything that. I've heard look these guys have worked together for. While abridging donna love previously worked together and remained friendly. Glover came up with the idea to do this. Glover and phoebe waller bridge. Both have overall deals at amazon. So it made this kind of collaboration possible and easy thing to do. So basically glover came up with the idea to revisit. This took the idea to phoebe waller bridge who signed on immediately and was just like absolutely. Yes let's do. This amazon announced it. As as the show straight to series order for a twenty twenty two premier both of them starring glover executive producing There is a show runner who who remains attached to this one but from everything that that i've been told this was plain and simple creative differences. The show that donald glover wanted to make kind of didn't really gel with what phoebe waller bridge wanted to do. And this was glover's idea to begin with phoebe. Waller bridge made the decision to leave. It was an amicable split and they remained friends per all multiple sources. So yeah. It's kind of a bummer. And what. I was surprised by just the number of people on social media. Who saw the news and responded good. That were very happy to see her. Leave this project which really surprised me considering how universally beloved she is for her work on fleabag among other things so yeah. It's a bummer. The show per amazon remains on track for twenty twenty two glover as a pair is writing scripts right now while he is in production on the fourth season of atlanta for effects and he's also in post production on season three of atlanta so the dudes got a lot going on for two different companies at disney with for atlanta and then amazon with mr and mrs smith where he's got multiple other projects in the works phoebe as far as going forward. She's got another show that i'm hearing is imminent in terms of when it's going to be announced so yeah it's not like either one of them are not busy but yeah it's kind of bummer. To see two certified tv geniuses or at least that's what the industry calls them not be able to to collaborate on on what sure as hell sounded like a fun show and i don't think anyone was saying good about her. Leaving in the sense of this will now be better project without her. I think probably people were feeling that all things considered if the show was not coming together the way that she exactly wanted it to be. Phoebe waller bridge should be doing the things exactly the way she wants to be doing them. I think that would be. That would be my general feeling about her. Is that if she were to tell me. I want to do a remake of mr and mrs smith. Because i'm intrigued by the angle we have on this story and i want to do it. Then my response would be absolutely you do you phoebe waller bridge. But i definitely don't want her doing it if it's something that isn't a thing that's bringing her joy as we say So yeah that. That would be what i would say is if this wasn't something that she decided she wanted to do then i'm glad she got out of it and didn't force it on herself or on us Yeah you know to me. My excitement about the show was about the two of them and the two of them feeling like it was the thing that they wanted to do. So that takes away some of my enthusiasm but donald glover is as you say someone who. The industry discusses genius. And i can buy that. So we'll see who ends up joining him. I don't know that it's likely to be anyone who will get people as jazz. Does phoebe waller bridge did but you know he he. He attracts a certain high level of talent. What with his being. Donald glover and all so. Yeah i mean. Don't forget he's got another show in the works at amazon called hive which amazon has yet to officially confirm but When i broke news of his overall deal i included that. And guess who's in that writer's room dan Who malia obama So yeah he does recruit i level down. We assume oh. I haven't i haven't seen any of me. Obama spec scripts. I don't know she. She could be very smart she. I think we either way. Oh it's fast it's a name. There's there's no question that if you put me obama down as staff writers assistant or whatever you want to put her down in the credit people talk about it anyway. Whatever it is the donald glover wants to do next in addition to atlanta. I personally mostly excited for season. Three atlanta on there for it and ditto with phoebe waller bridge. I hope that she finds the things she wants to do. Because i'm there for it up next it's time for our runners spotlight segment number four. Our guest this week are the executive producers of fx who's highly anticipated and long just dating adaptation of wide. The last man bryan cave on created the beloved comic that the series is based on and counts lost and under the dome among his credits on the comic site. He's also known for award winning titles including saga paper. Girls and ex magna elisa. Clark is a first time show runner on why and also counts animal kingdom and the killing among her credits. Thanks so much for joining us. Brian and elisa so nice to talk with you. I feel like dan. I have been talking about. Why the last man since we started the show. One hundred thirty plus episodes ago. I've never gotten into spider man. I have to be forced to watch by man. i just. It's just one of those things that have never been to tell me how i am just a i'm just a classic straight up. Spider-man fan i i love spiderman. I've always spiderman as a character. I think that the story of peter parker this common kid. Who's common nerdy kid who manages get superpowers. I think just speaks to a lot of people for a lot of different reasons but the tom holland stuff has been good the newest spiderman now that he's in the ncaa has been great. And what is the teaser for. This makes it clear that so many awesome. Things are going to happen in this movie. that we we're getting a full on multidimensional spiderman movie with they're going to be pulling tobey. Maguire villains david and yet the villains and the other spider men are both in this movie and it looks like we might even be getting like a multi sinister six which is awesome and amazing. And i cannot even tell you. I've watched this trailer like seventeen times at this point and it's caused my wife and my son and i to start a straight rewatch of all like eight movies. That would lead up. So we're going all the way back to two thousand two tobey maguire where we're watching the two thousand two tobey maguire spiderman than we We're almost at the first one. Yeah so they didn't want me so he's actually. I was kinda here for that. So it actually. He is he's miles morales. It's it's funny that the last episode we talked about this streamer who is Who was simulating his his stream as if he was a sim character in letting people And you know. I've been going through some meanings at work vetting basically online community platforms You know for for use at at at paper. Add one of the things that is striking me as as obvious these days is the gaming in game affiliation You know has has has so become universal in its adoption and usage and is is a common passion of so many people And that's what. I've been thinking about this week when i've been in these meetings but also What's really funny is You know paper uses slack and Someone had had started a video games slack channel in our in our slack companies slack and then wrote in the general slack. Know if you're down with video games join join the video games channel and it was instantly full like we have about two hundred full time employees at paper and there was there was instantly like fifty people up in their having great conversations of video games and it was so funny and revealing It shouldn't surprise anyone that a technology company there would be people in video games obviously but It just you know between these meetings and that that that funny slack experience just reminded me how important it is that that that teachers like. I can pivot this education super easy unless the educators need to remember that like like game of the -cation has become universal in its application and it is. It is a language that almost every single human understands in some way shape or form. And if that's not what we're trying to do in education that i don't know what the hell we're trying to do because what we actually need to be trying to do right is is finding those universal ways that we can all connect with each other and learn together and it's becoming so obvious they gamification is one of those ways. Yeah at They're still hold outs right. Like there's still people. And i think that i. I know we've talked about this. But i i to me. It's that it's that miss of like the misconception by so small number of people who don't understand like games can be a wider conversation than just saying like. Oh it's a bunch of middle schoolers on fortnight cursing at each other in being derogatory to women like that but also like that. That happens every other job like that. It just happens at work like if you ever worked in a restaurant. Yeah that happens there to like. Have you ever been in to watch a football game at a bar happens there to like say that that happens and therefore means all of those things are bad. I don't agree with ray end. So yes there are parts of it that people can point to and have problems with gaming in general hundred percent. Don't get me wrong. Twitch just went dark this week because of problems in that community in that space hundred percent understand. Yeah but that doesn't mean that it's all bad right. And i think that when we talk about games as a universal language going beyond just video games in general is also a really powerful thing because the the the the psychology of why games work as a learning tool is true beyond just video games. It's just in my opinion. Modern kids these days are more interested in video games because they're more dynamic engaging than playing a game of scrabble. Not that i don't like scrabble. Scrabble is fine. But like you know. There's a difference between video games and board games and card games but the psychology. The game mechanics the things. We can integrate into classrooms and used to teach are still there but also that community piece. I mean i. I know you support this but just having a board game night with your family or friends. That's the best right like just hanging out chatting laughing making fun of each other for bad decisions. Those are all true across the board. And they they do 'cause communication 'cause interaction 'cause human connections and so two to get sidetracked and stuck on the little pieces. That are not that i you know. I don't support and i think we absolutely need more inclusion of it and acceptance of it in the education space and we're getting there we've moved that needle wave farther than we have in a long time for sure for sure so just something to think about for all you there and you know if you ever have any questions about like gamification you know there are tons of people that are super willing on twitter to talk about this and even guide you through it including myself and i won't be rapper. Probably brad to probably bread. He's got tons of free tons of free time so so there's lots of people that you can reach out to so if you're still on the fence i imagine if you're listening to this podcast you're probably not on the fence our kind of preaching to the choir here but hopefully you can share this with someone you know they might be on the fence is there might be people listening that agree with it but haven't actually taken the steps in their classroom right. I think that's a definite possibility. There you go take those steps. Take those steps. There's the takeaway. Hey we have a really good interview. It's long and and an excellent and so we want to get to it Right away so when we come back we'll be talking to the four authors of inclusive. Learning three six five so stay with.

I need to get by by method man and implies and now my head. I was like wait. That record was everywhere. So of course. He's like no he's like. It could have been even stronger. Could have been so much more. Bigger amway way ubiquitous. Who so for a record like that you know. How do you convince first of all why would people resist. Why would people have resistance to it because it was just an unorthodox sounding street song or the man had more to do why people didn't go immediately on records in my instant hit wasn't instant hit. But you gotta understand something so back then. People want it to be safe and method. Man wasn't safe for them. That wasn't safe. The record was safe method man. The personality also also met has yes. Yes yes listen. I had a record So i'm gonna give you what you know migos right now that bad and boozy about to say yes now changed for you since donald glover long time ago during the show or to back out now is glove that she so We couldn't get migos on late night. Everybody's fighting over. Invite and so. I can only say this to you to say radio. Didn't see them at the club. Group them a certain way. Tv didn't seem certain way. And you think about method man. At that time he was dirty looking thing. We thought that was a moment. We started clean them. He was the assessable. But let's say just for the record. Somebody told me once that the roots didn't have enough personality. If you really think that is not like that. It's like really..

"That was actually created by donald glover. Everyone not everyone Probably anyone who's familiar with his music news him as childish gambino but he created atlanta which is also has a similar story Definitely way two different ways to portray this portray this type of thing. But it's essentially about someone trying to break into the rap industry someone who's trying to pursue their dreams of music in which they say that you know. Dave takes one approach. That's not as great. But something like atlanta takes a very colorful approach and decides to switch things up now i haven't actually seen atlanta. I was literally just reading the little blurb on the the quick newt reviews Because it'll show you like a line or two teams prevalent to this person So anyway you know. And which also that show i know has been on hiatus for like two years. But it's supposedly coming back it mess things up and they're changing production schedule mess things up as well but supposedly the final two seasons will be coming out at some point probably this year as currently filming it right now But yeah they tackle a wide range of stuff day deliver comedy. They delivered drama. And somehow this show has managed to king a wide diverse audience. And i'm serious. When i say why diverse audience is not. Just you know one set group of people that you would think that the show's trying to hit on it somehow managed to hit on number of different people even including in the rapids st in which people are praising most of the cast including dave and also get a himself for you know bringing these issues to light So i guess on that note check it out ten episodes you can find it on hulu. It's really good A friend of mine even said that a show like this has no business being as good as it. Is they once again. They tell that it's a comedy but it is so much more than that So on that. I always get to some audio here because I've been wanting to get to this for several days now, and Victor's nudging me and he's correct to be doing so there are all kinds of stories these days about cancel culture. Rightly so. On comedians are weighing in a comedian named Donald Glover here of getting canceled. Makes entertainment boring, says this guy. Where's all the good TV gone? That's what Donald Glover would like to know. The Atlanta that created this TV show called Atlanta hopped on Twitter earlier this week, or maybe was even last week and a rare occurrence for the historically the street discreet star. To join the conversation happening on social media about the state of the the onscreen business that you know Hollywood stuff, his succinct take currently being disputed, however, due to his confusion or the use of the word canceled, he get on to say what you know what happened. Good television. There's no good television anymore because of that, he blames canceled culture. He's right, of course, because nobody's willing to say anything that might offend somebody out there. Chris Rock, one of the great comedians of his generation, and of modern times has been kind of kicked out of comedy Chris Rock was on with with. Well he was He was out with which show was he on? I Forget what show he was on. He was on a Podcast, and he's talking about canceled culture. And he explained Why, you know comedy isn't comedy anymore. Hey, stop doing college campuses years ago because they stopped laughing at jokes and start being offended by everything. I pointed out again and again. These like the late night shows. My friend Marty woke me up to this and it's Saturday night live to the audience doesn't laugh. They clap. Because it's political content they want, and that's why Greg Gut felt show is beating Stephen Colbert in the same time, so I'd better ratings in the in the demo 25 to 54. He's beating Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon outright. Because great gut felt is has more substance. It's not scripted and phony, and he's funnier than these people. Because these people aren't funny. They do politics and make it unfunny. They make it bitter and angry. All right, So Chris Rock Here's Chris Rock on the state of comedy Classy. A lot of unfunny comedians. I see of funny TV shows. I see unfunny award shows I see unfunny. Movie is because no one's everybody scared to like, you know, make a move. You know that's not a place to be. You know, we should have.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is Mr and Mrs Smith, but it's going to be Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller Bridge. Mm. I'm going to tell you the thing I'd be annoyed with is if they keep it up for more than a half season of them both not knowing each other or spot, right? That would bug me. I don't need that. What are they gonna find out for a whole season? Well, I can't give the note directly to Donald Glover and Phoebe will leverage about that. But this is going to be a serious so it's based off of the movie. But this is going to be a serious I don't know how long they're going to tease out the mystery right? Because the whole crux of the story is that Mr and Mrs Smith are spies and their bull spies and they're married. And they don't know that the other one is a spy. So I think it would be pretty fun. It's just like suggested that she had her own adventures. going on. this was not a surprise. It is a delight though. It is an interesting we. I think we talked about this earlier. The you know the fact that not to get too deep spoiler as they chee. She was offered a role to mentor. Baby yoda no. You really need to go somewhere else. They felt like definitely had that back door pilot vibe to because like i'm sorry i'm off to other adventures. I've got my own thing. Got to deal with and allow that did seem like a setup for its own show. I'm actually late my own. Tv show salena catch trade this game and it gave a pretty clear idea of what she was up to not to get into splutters between between that and the rebels finale. From a few years ago we have a good idea what her objectives are for this show. Yeah we don't wanna get too deep into spoilers. Maybe we'll we'll devote a whole episode of that later on this year to speculate on what what that might be both water. Somebody other shows that that were announced. It was the next big one we knew this was coming for a long time but they talked about a little with last night and give us a sense that or confirmed that it was filming next march And that christian hated christiansen was returning as dark later. Very very exciting news. That one definitely took me by surprise. tactic territory hidden christmas activator. That's that's interesting. As opposed to advocate skywalker. Which would suggest that he appeared in flashbacks as anikin. But saying he's vader would suggest maybe that he'll appear in four seasons or something that is unclear. It's definitely it's intriguing. Another property was with a character. That's near to many star. Wars fans hearts landau gets his own show yet. These were ten on the ground because we don't know if it's going to be live action or a cgi animated series. I feel like donald glover should be involved. Because he was so well received solo so fingers crossed that he will be returning and then there are a long list of other ones kind of run through them really quickly because we unfortunately only have so much time on this podcast okay so there was the ropes quadrant movie directed by patty jenkins of wonder woman fang which is really exciting. That's super cool. That'd be a fighter pilots. There's the bat batch which will be a follow up to the clone wars at those cartridge orig- use there. There's adore which is about caffeine door from roquan. There's tyco tgi movie which we still don't know what that's about our coop concert raiders of the republic. Which is set around the time. Line of the mandalorian and could be about current june because she became a marshal of the new republic but again that remains unclear star wars visions which is automated shorts from abbey craters. That's really cool quite different the acolytes which obviously is that almost excited with the malls because that is set in the era of the high republic which is two hundred years before the phantom menace. And it's like about some sort of a dark site warrior and it could reveal stuff about the Era some different cool. So those a lot. I know being a super star wars fan. I want to get your opinion on this. Is this too much star wars. It certainly was too much reward announcement. I think parceled out over several years. It should be okay especially since the movies will be quite so frequent. Like i remember when it was only like six months between the last year and solo that felt overwhelming with tv. It's a little different as so you can kind of watch out. I'm at home in a more relaxed environment. it's a lot of star wars. There's no escaping that. Yeah yeah yeah i mean. Brian made a good point before we start recording that you know a lot of these might be one off shows ryden. Obi wan will probably be a one-off sled that that kind of makes sense that they'd wanna have this pipeline but it was a lot to digest all in really what was about thirty minutes a thirty minute presentation just for the star wars section. They're just kept pumping out one announcement after another rapid fire a lot but also i think that's partly a function of the fact that they're no conventions this year star wars celebration was

Forty Five Minutes And Fifty Six Percent discussed on Joyce Kaufman

"Right what we hear and so far because I've heard make stuff about the lying game yeah it's getting sort of a mixed reaction from the critics at the very least I think I kind of understand where they're coming from you know I I think it really depends on what you're looking for in a lion king remake yeah this is it this is the third of Disney's so called live action remakes of the classic animated films this year the first two being dumbo and Aladdin this one is definitely the most anticipated of the three people just love the lion king and this one have a pretty good great cast in Starz Donald Glover at the voice of Simba you know beyond say the voice of now you've got Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan who play to moan and quibble and they actually steal a lot of scenes they're really funny to Whittle at your for his car and then in sort of a nice little nod to the original you've got James Earl Jones who returns to provide the voice of Musasa and this is directed by John Fabbro he actually had really great success with a similar movie when he did the jungle book remake for Disney just a few years ago so it and made a lot of sense that they'd get him to do this one as well and to his credit the movie looks mind blowing the good everyone who's seen it agrees with them absolutely a technical Marvel how this thing looks from the animals to the natural environment you know for example pride rock that that famous rock with a cold Simba to the rest of the animals that that actually doesn't exist in Africa that's a complete fabrication on the part of the the guy who designed the original movie and and everything looks so real it's it's incredible what they've been able to do you know the whole sort of gimmick of the movie was that I was supposed to be a reinterpretation of the lion king with photo realistic animals and they have really gone sort of above and beyond to accomplish that but I think it does also kind of pose a problem at least for some people because you know the nineteen ninety four movie with a cartoon and that kind of allowed them to superimpose very human expressions on to the animals so they were angry or sad or happy you could really see it in their faces but you know obviously rely and they don't really smile like that or cry like that so their faces kind of end up looking fairly the same whether they're angry at someone or singing accrue the macabre so in that sense the photo realism does in my opinion kind of rob the movie a little bit of its personality but aside from that there also aren't really any changes to the story it's almost a shot for shot remake of the animated version although it does feature a few new songs that we didn't get the original and produced a number of critics that was also kind of a disappointment so with all of that said the movie is currently at fifty six percent on the tomato meter and I think whether or not you enjoy it will depend on one thing do you essentially want a shot for shot remake of the animated we but with super realistic looking animals instead of cartoons or were you hoping that this might be kind of a fresh take on the story and sort of the same way that John Fabbro did a few things a little differently from the original when he made the jungle book if you're okay with that being basically the same movie but pretty here then this is exactly that you will probably love it a lot of fans of already chimed in and said that they had an amazing time at the movie and again it looks fantastic but again if you were hoping for them to do something a little more with the story to sort of justify remaking it or you know even come at it from a fresh angle you're not gonna get that here so you know this is very much a your mileage may vary kind of the situation no it's interesting when you bring that up that way Ryan's for somebody like me yeah you know my kids love the movie right so I probably wouldn't watch it just on my own so I don't even know what my explanation is other than if we decided to go see the movie or if it's in a few months and I'm watching it you know as a rental it's kind of like irate am I entertained by it and I had even thought of what is my expectation you know what I mean which is like is there a rule or not and it from the trailer I'm like wow that looks stunning but I do wonder after about forty five minutes to an hour if you're like well I know how these roles and there's no silent there you know I don't know what it'll be like I'm not

Disney, Nala Donald Glover And James Earl Jones discussed on Bald Movies

"Latest live action cash grab the Lion King directed by Jon Favreau and you know I never would have guessed that the man who breathed life into a multi billion dollar franchise but taking a third tier marvel property like iron man and taking passion for source material I I never thought that he you would brought that same passion to the Lion King and you know what I was right because in my opinion this is like the most of all the pointless Disney remakes this is the most pointless and the one that comes off the shabby shabby as compared to its source material Jim. What did you think and maybe talk about your personal relationship with the Lion King of any so I think the Jon Favreau had quite the passion for the source material because he just recycled it and not in like the way where you I don't know take something you have? It's old fashioned into something new. That's useful in a different way. This was the lion king like this is the most Lion King Lion King movie <hes> outside outside of the Lion King I mean the thing is is is the lion king. Only all of the animals were injected. The Boat Docks Yeah Animation <hes> that's. That's the only thing that was different about this movie in any way right. There's one hint of new song none of the plot points or any different than the lion king you remember from ninety four. It's all the same it's just a it's just a cross aboard worse version yeah and completely like you said unnecessary. I think this is like the thing I liked about. Aladdin is Kinda took it a direction and modernized it updated five the problem. The parts were little creaky and little stale where we've moved on as a society they've kind of you know propped it up and they didn't try to like out Robin Williams Robin Williams on the genie whereas this it's like. I don't understand how the animation tests came back for. These animals father wasn't like okay we gotta ditched his documentary approach and have these lions smile. Give him some fucking eyebrows house allow on the show some gene grief and rage because we know I've seen the lion king many many many many times and there's a couple of scenes where you're you're geared up to anticipate and it's exactly. The same lines exactly the same framing except for Simba's faces a grim frozen mask that is capable of showing anything other than way honestly my house cats more expressive. I that's the thing that really really surprised me and I saw a listen problems with that in like some of the trailers I saw but like I don't know I mean it's this isn't a bad film in fact honestly the first five minutes. I actually started thinking well. Maybe I'm wrong because it gave me the exact same goosebumps that intro of the Classic Lion King Circle Life Yeah <hes> but even then it's like there's a couple of parts or like you know like there's a couple of things that you you know you can do in animation like when you blink and step forward and sun you can have a baby draft. Blankets is in this. I mean if they did that with his baby. Draft who the fuck knows because baby drafts don't blink in the sun it turns out it's almost it felt like one of those Old Walt Disney movies like <hes> <hes> what is the journey home or whatever where the actually take a real poppy in a real cat kitten and or they have like little bound very tightly homered ban yeah they make a movie around around like their natural expressions and stuff <hes> but there's just I don't know I mean I didn't really pay any attention to the casting like I didn't know anybody <hes> and there's <hes> great great cat like you know the Simba Nala Donald Glover beyond say knowles stats a fucking dynamite combination like John Oliver as the Domo's as zoo is pretty inspired casting the return of James Earl Jones James Jones. You can't do better than that. I thought that <hes> Billy Eichner as to Moan was really good eye Eric Andre I know seth th- Rogan is Okay Yeah Eric Andrea one of the hyenas I I mean I said it's just I mean we can talk about it the scene by scene point by point and the trailer earn the spoiler section like do I want to on this one because if you've seen the Lion King you've seen the entirety of this movie. It's just like they changed a damn thing. No they range all all the life yeah. Apparently the animators didn't get to note that the scene. Can you feel the love tonight actually takes place at night not at noon just many many references to it being evening and being nights and then it. Blend smoothly into another night scenes really pivotal and what the fuck what the fuck why are they why are they having animated these lions in broad daylight. I don't know because you can. They're more expressive in the day. I don't ever more expressive in the day. That's the only thing I think of is the other thing is speaking of that. I defy you to tell any of those lionesses apart <hes> yeah lights off in the cartoon version. There are subtle variations in color facial expression oppression. I mean they're all kind of unique individuals. At least you know the Nairobi and Nala and the ones actually have speaking roles this like they literally all look the same and when Simba's fighting scarred there's many time I lost track of WHO Simba who was scar and they found it hilarious that these battles are so bloodless. I don't know how you get a name like scar. If nothing can cut your skin I know 'cause like it'd be like it's cannon that Mu Fossa awesome fucked him up the part of his ear off and really hideously scarred him so but yeah you can't do that when <hes> although to realistic you can't do I was kind of put off by the mature subject matter. They're they're. They're saying the F. A. R._T.. Word heard they are in case. Let that slide through yeah yeah really risk and is this P._G.. I don't know it probably is it wouldn't be stupid like whatever the whatever the original was here. It's the same because it is is the same so so. Maybe I'm a little harness movie but I actually this was the very first Walt Disney animated movie I ever saw because I my mom was a religious nut job the type of religion I mean there's lots of different ways to be a religious just not job as a parent but <hes> her particular nutjob Orie was magic anything magic and I'll add in allow <hes> sleeping beauty no little rain when the fucking sea he which get Outta here those legs are mad. I remember the look my sister and I gave each other when Rafiki started doing medicine Monkey Shit and we're like Oh God and my mom's is started twitching like us a spiritism. Does a spiritism like she's please do not storm out of that we we. We begged her to take her come on the line game. There's no magic there's no warlock in this fucking monkey starts. Doing you know the the magic adjacent shit he starts doing like some kind of weird monkey and melon based divination a nation he starts doing martial arts karate at the end which is the other kind of spiritism adjacent but it was near and dear to my heart because I that's the very first and I remember just like just like being just completely amazed at the opening act. And really moved when Fossa dies and like also we had that movie I was the only Disney animated movie for a long long time that we had on V._H._S. and my brother and sister and I kind of wore it out over the course of a summer so I'd fucking love this the Super N._S.. Lion King Okay. I don't think I ever made it past the third level because it's freakishly hard but there's a lot I have a lot of affection for this source material and Dan I just to me they should have cleaned it up that those prints as shiny as they could make him they should've completely redone to sound and just re released it because this is just you know Lion King's Tinton movie. This is like six attitude execution of that movie. This is a high school musical version of the Broadway version of the Lion King. I could see that yeah. I didn't find it offensive. I found that it was in in maybe everything except for the expressive -ness of the characters was just as effective as the original was but yeah it was entirely unnecessary. This is a fairly obvious cash crap. I didn't didn't feel that way coming out of Aladdin. I know a lot of people didn't feel that way coming out of beauty and the beast and you know the the Dumbo did People Watch Dumbo. Nobody watched dumbo right everywhere. I heard it was pretty fucking shitty. Yeah I didn't see it. I didn't either her because I heard it was pretty shitty and guess what you've got Milan coming down the pike. I don't I've never seen Milan. I mean it's a fine. It's it's it's probably one of the lesser of the new golden age of Disney like it's kind of their into Pocahontas level level where it's like animation still amazing songs that nearly as catchy core concept not as solid and I've heard that they're actually a skewing the songs more or less in Milan and just like a straight like a straight drama weird. I could be wrong on that but I just. I don't know I it. It's it's not it's so cynical. I said cash grab because it's it's not it's not just a blatant redundant cash grab. It's just a pace. These does relentless Klis pace that they're that they're doing them into. I don't understand why we need. Five remakes of Disney live action Disney movies in a single year and I don't even know if it might be more than that like. I don't know if they've got. They're going to sneak something out. Pass them along before Christmas. I don't know I don't know they just cast a little mermaid. I I don't know how far that's that that's behind but who's playing Sebastian. I don't know okay. That's my biggest question about that movie. Maybe Ahmed Best Okay Yeah sure thanks Yeah Sebastian yeah he so Whoopi Whoopi in the under the sea yeah love song so I got some more stuff to say 'cause I got. I actually Kinda WanNa actually KINDA WANNA break it down so you might say because he's keep on saying that it's shot for shot for Lion King and that's my biggest problem is is that I don't think it is. I think they're I mean they try not shot but beat for beat. Story is one hundred percent every bit of the staging is is noticeably inferior and worse than than the than the the original and some of the things that like what they did to be prepared is a God damn criminal travesty. That's one of my favorite songs from the Lion King and I've never seen a more dispirited parroted punting of a musical number then than I have. I don't know Jimmy Nicholson who I considered. The foremost expert on Disney films on the Internet suggested that there's also a muted quality due to vocal performances like everything everyone's kind of like instead of like even James Earl Jones instead of just like because I remember I I can I can hear in my head exactly how he says. Nobody messes is with the year old band or I can. I can hear like they. They just didn't quite nail it and her theory is they had to have all the actor scale back because if they were as a motive as the original lion king it would look wildly out of place with the animation style and it's like the one thing that you could have gone ten for ten and let like Donald Glover and beyond say and James Will Jones uncork and actually you know she would tell Chew Hotel Jia for <hes> who I think is an amazing actor. He got the world's most laid back quiet unassuming scar and it's just a shame because he's trying to follow giant. Jeremy Irons plays one of the the all time Great Disney villain voices and it just. I don't know

"Comes as you watch the herbivores congregate to bow down before their newborn ruler blanking offers us is inductive world view in which absolute power goes in question where the weak and vulnerable are fundamentally inferior in other words linking offers us a fascist ideology writ large there seems to be No Way Out for the forthcoming remake the first thing to understand that the wind king is that it isn't in any way that winds or any other animal species no it it it kind of is and it says so in the title The Lion King and then also there only animals and no humans in at it's amazing how the west will struggle to say that certain things are not metaphors and then they'll immediately say that this is a metaphor for fascism on earth as in everything below a variety of cute and cuddly figure stand in for human societal organizations mapping internalize social hierarchies on he's pristine and neutral world and the animal kingdom renders these power dynamics natural common sense and desirable because of first of all what should be real about the animal kingdom lions eat zebras it when they're called the king of the king of the forest king of the jungle it is a better thing for quite awhile and that is because the line is the apex predator in this particular scenario that's how they sure I using the predator prey relationships to Allan Grice human power it's almost inevitably incorporates the white supremacist world view so now believe it or not the argument is that the lion king is about white supremacy now last I checked move faster his voice in the wind came is James Earl Jones who is black Simba in the room in the remake is played by Donald Glover who is black nala who is his wife is played by by and by Beyonce say who is black Sir Robbie whose mom is with alpha Alfre Woodard who is black James Earl Jones is still move asa and still black

Summer Movie Preview

"The movies of summer twenty nineteen. What is out there? What's going to happen? And I've got to start by saying you think maybe that summer begins on your calendar near the end of June. But not in Hollywood everything in Hollywood begins early because summer is when they make all the money that they can make all year. So officially April twenty six it's the beginning of summer because the movie that opens on that day is called a ventures endgame. This is three hours long. Nobody's gonna care. I predict that not only will this be the biggest box office hit of the summer, but it will be the biggest box office hit of the year. You remember what happened last time all the ventures or at least half of them seem to turn to dust than die mean? Now have those ventures that are left to signing if they can beat the evil fan. He so evil will the adventures be wiped out forever. Look how much money did these movies make I'm saying why would you basically kill the golden goose? This is going to continue in some way, we all know it. So what else is out there? I'm looking at my list. There's a major thing going on now of in terms of taking the Disney slash Pixar animated classics and turning them into live action movies. So we have The Lion King line king. One of the most successful Disney animated movies ever is now being done as a live action movie. You have Donald Glover being Simba. You have James Earl Jones actually being this father and the same scores. They're the same using. And it's directed by John Fabbro who did such a great job with the jungle book doing the same thing that I think we can all feel optimistic about what's going to happen. And then we have Aladdin when we remember the. Animated movie who do we remember the most? We remember Robin Williams doing the voice of the genie. This time doing the voice of the genie and being the genie. We have Will Smith. So big stars in this big kind of thing, they tried it with Dumbo earlier this year, and that didn't quite work the way they wanted to do. But we're talking about lying king and the Ladan so big deal. Now, what terms of old fashioned animation is out there. I don't know if you're like me. But there's a Toy Story four toy stories always been my favorite of those Pixar. There's something about Woody and buzz light year, and you're probably saying to yourself. Well, and Toy Story three didn't it happen. That would he said goodbye, Andy. And he went to college, and it was all over remember. There was little Bonnie Andy gave his toys too. So we're going to have little Bo peep comeback. I think when you look at what goes on in Toy Story, you have that kind of feeling of goodness of field. Goodness, but done with all the magic of Pixar. So if those adventures out there are going to have a run for their box office money. I would say Toy Story. Four is going to be the one that does it. So what else we now have men in black men in black international? You're not gonna see Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones anymore. But this time you have Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. As new agents who are out there in this men in black universe. Sometimes you say to yourself do I want more of that? And you never know to actually see it. And I can only tell because I haven't seen this movie yet. But it looks like there's chemistry there. Then we have Spiderman far from home. You know, the Spiderman franchise never seems to end either. But we have Tom Holland who played him last time charmingly, I think, but now spider man, Peter Parker. They're taking a European vacation and the villain that they run up against is mysterious. Played by Jake Jilin. All I just think they're still some special sauce in the Spiderman universe, and I expect this one to also be a major hit. Godzilla Godzilla king of the monsters. I see that. And I go how much can they work this poor God's, but you can look at the trailer and see it. I like the idea that aside from viewer for Megan who is in it, Billy Bobby Brown from stranger things is in its she the dynamo. So if God Zillah can basically meet his match betting on little Millie to do something with that Hobbes and Shaw, this is fast and the furious you remember the rock of playing the the law man, and Jason stefon playing the outcast and the rebel these guys. I don't know if this is Hollywood kind of thing, but they tell us that Jason stadium and the rocked wing Johnson. Don't really like each other. And maybe that what the reason we love these characters and show so much because we liked that conflict. I don't know it seems a PR stunt to me, but I'm going to be there because this cars. There's the rock and their Stefa. So you're going to be there to and you know, it, oh and the big deal. Now, everybody has just in the midst of welcoming game of thrones back to their lives. The last season of that. You can't bear to live in a world where you can't see the stark sisters anymore. Well, now, you can dark Phoenix, which is part of the X men universe. Bring Sophie Turner, and she's Jean grey this character that we've seen before. But she's this younger version of her and she split between the good side of her and the dark Phoenix side of her. And to me, these girls are tremendously talented in what they do on game of thrones. And I think we're going to keep seeing them through the years, but her sister her at least game of thrones sister, maisy Williams is in new mutants part of that universe too. But in this case, they're all new characters to do this. They're all gonna be in the X men universe. Doing it. So that's it for the blockbusters that are out there. You've got everything from animation to comic book characters to everything. And that's the stuff that you hear about that your friends are going to talk to you about. But there's gotta be other stuff to part of summer is comedy of. I think we all really have gone through a long winter. And we're saying make us laugh give us something that will just make say, whatever. I can just sit back and not think. So what's there for that? There's a movie called longshot. This is a movie in which Charlotte Theran is playing the secretary of state who is running for president. But falling Manley in love with who staff throw in. Okay. It's like, a beauty and the beasts thing going on here. Seth Rogan is her speechwriter all of her people say what are you doing? You're going to destroy your career. But no, it's love. And if you don't laugh at the combination of Seth Rogan, Charlie staring. There's nothing left for you. And then we have the hustle. The hustle is a movie that used to be called dirty run scoundrels where the old days it was about conman. Now, it's con- women. They're played by Anne Hathaway and rebel Wilson. And they basically go all cross the continent finding rich people whose money they can steal pretty people. Glamour? What's wrong with that? Oh, book smart. This is directed by the actress Olivia Wilde, and it's about girls graduating from high school and saying we spent all our lives with our head in the books. Everybody else is going to parties and having fun. So they're going to do that beanie Feldstein plays one of them. She is the sister of Jonah hill and real life and Jona hill did super bad. This is kind of the women's version of super bad everything in it works, like a charm. You're really going to like that one. Then we have a movie called late night. This is about the TV talk show world and Emma Thompson plays. Probably the only woman on late night TV who hosts her own show, but she's got only men on her writing staff, and then she hires Mindy Kaeling who also wrote the screenplay of this movie, very very funny about what happens when you put women into what basically has been. A male bass they end of doing this. And the combination of Mindy king writing for the great Emma Thompson and watching them perform together is just so you've got to see that one to my favorite kind of thing. The dead. Don't die. You've got to admit that is a great and funny title. It comes from the indie, directing great, Jim Jarmusch. And it's cut people like Bill Murray and Adam driver by zombies. Okay. If Bill Murray is going to go out there and get laughs. Sizing up zombies. I'm going to be there watching him do it. So we have a good chance for laughs horror. I've got to talk about it now because it's not just the Cajun. Oh movie harm movie that makes money any makes people talk and get happy. It's they're everywhere. Now child's play do you? Remember the old child's play movies where you had Chucky. The crazy nut doll that. Always terrified me. Just. This doll who looks kind of little bit weird and freckly, but he has a voice on him like a longshoreman guess who's doing the west now of Chucky Marquel? Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker. And from what I've seen of it in. It's just been a little bit of it. It's wonderfully malevolent, so I'm going to be there to see that one. Then there's Annabel comes home. Another doll another possess doll also part of the conjuring universe where a viewer for Megan Patrick Wilson. Or the demon knowledge is that tried to make sure that nothing bad can come of this horrible doll Annabelle, but Bill will destroy and I will be there to watch her. Do it then them that follow their certain titles that get me them that follow really gets me? And it's about a snake handling church in Appalachia. No, they there are there colts. And they're almost religious cult where people pray. But they have the snakes, and they hold the life thinks pass them on. And you're thinking, what are you tell me about this like CD movie Har movie will guess who the star of this movie is the freshly minted Oscar winner Ogilby Coleman from the favourite, she's tossing those snakes around so irresistible. I think you're gonna love it. Then there's the Nightingale. See it's does not stop. It's har- everywhere. The night and gas from the director, Jennifer Kent who did a thing a couple of years ago called the baba Duke, which gave millions of people nightmares. And now she's back there following a woman who is chasing a convict got to be hooked. And then midsummer midsummer directed by REI Astor who last year gave us hereditary with Toni Collette, a really scary movie. Now, it's at a nine day Swedish holiday where everybody celebrates. But they'll be no celebrating after this one. So we. Got a lot of stuff out there. That's just going to scare us witless. And I couldn't be happier. All right. When summer comes. We think of all the things I've just talked to you about blockbusters comedy horror action, the rock of everything is there, but every even in a season like this. It's all about money and getting us into our theater, there are those movies that can come out entertain us. And also will hear about them at the end of the year when the Oscar nominations come out and the number one movie on that list, and the one that I haven't seen anything of India's of anyone that saw even anything past the trailer is called once upon a time in Hollywood it is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino its stars in order to Capri, oh as a TV star on the wane in Los Angeles. And Brad Pitt as his stunt double whoever thought of
