Retail Sales Rose 1% in June

"The government says retail sales rose 1% in June The report from the commerce department shows as prices at grocery stores and gas stations go up people are still spending It's easing fears the economy may be on the verge of a recession Department store sales are down but more people were buying things like furniture and electronics the increases modest enough that it likely won't encourage the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates even more aggressively It also helps that consumers have gotten a boost from pandemic era government relief checks as well as strong hiring and pay gains Ed Donahue Washington

We're back to our interview with actors. Bryan cranston and robin dearden after having one child robin and brian faced a tough dilemma. He had hopes for more children. Robin was done early. So that was a big therapy thing for. While i'll bet i think i really would have resented having two kids when he would be gone like six months or go off into a movie or right and and how did you get through that well as a progressive enlightened male i said well i think it's fair that you should have two votes and i'll have one vote so because of the tautological tissue out for so i said i said well maybe when taylor is one years old i'll bring it up when she's two years old are bringing up and after that i won't bring it up but we know okay but we did go to therapy for that and i learned something really interesting about you at at that is i had yes. We're getting deep into him wanting more children. So much and me being fine with not the therapist as brian. Why do you think this is so important in you. Had this epiphany of 'cause. I only think of a family as my siblings because his parents were so fractured that us only having one was not a family. I really relied on my brother. Who's two years older than me. During the fracture of the family he was like it was running defense and blocking for me and figuring things out together and we're very very close for a long long time. I thought boy. I really needed my brother. Are little sister needed us to at times to take care of her to babysit when mom was drinking too much. Or whatever you know. So that's what i kept thinking. It's not for me. It's for taylor. I thought it's better for to simply. I don't disagree with you. I think that that's what do you think it's not too late. Baby sure big deal. That's that's amazing. Having a change your marriage a lot by having a baby by oh yeah well. Because i did have a one is forty because i did have major complications. It took me a year to even feel quasi-normal again just wrecked me. It just totally wrecked me. And that was part of a to i. Just don't wanna go through that again. It was just deprived. You of the joy of motherhood didn't for a while. I mean not from to nothing on from two years old on that first year it was really really hard was really hard but brian is home. Then he wasn't gonna wasn't going through. Oh yeah and it's like we'll just do this. We'll just get through this. That's who he is that in everything he's like that there was another point. His grandmother was in dementia in a home and she had to go to the bathroom and he said i'll help you. And she said owner and okay. She wasn't really sure who he was and she said. Oh no no. I'd be too 'cause oh grandma don't you know i'm a doctor. Now she went. Okay so good. And how was it about about robin. That made you think part of it was just the the the person that she is that she still has a joyous appreciation for simple things for just life a good positive outlook. She wasn't cynical or sarcastic yet. She was funny. She was beautiful. Still is and the character of a person is what you should hit your wagons to. What are the choices you make when times are tough. Is there an example. Well it's interesting because one of our first fights was when she had this boyfriend and we were now getting together and she hadn't officially told the boyfriend that didn't live in los angeles that this was not going to go any further. And i thought you know this. I'm sensing something sensing something here. I tell them. I lost my voice. I physically lost my voice. Tone is such a psychological while it was like i got laryngitis so to speak i guess so. Did you believe it well. I was having a difficult time and rightfully rightfully. So yes. thank you for. I was in the right on here completely but they were asking. What is it about me that you love so thanking big mistake. Just doing better. You're probably right. What would you pass on to a young couple. Who's about to be married that you've learned being able to laugh. It's really important to me. And then the other thing is just say. Sometimes i'm your best friend. I've got your back. Don't forget that And i think if you can both remember that what about you. Mr. you have to know that you fall in love before you attempt this now. it's sounds overly simplistic because well of course we'll but really being love and take the time to really desire that person to miss that person sometimes separation is not necessarily a bad thing and to find out how you truly feel at your core if.

"Dates to find out what makes a marriage last. What a crazy afternoon in new york. The day we met bryan cranston and robin dearden. Oh god i remember. Brian was starring in the hit. Broadway production of network and the kurt was going up in just a few hours. So we had a very narrow window of time to visit with them at their apartment or men are cabdriver. Took us to the wrong address and it was rush hour. We were almost a full hour late. It was just the worst no time to kind of warm up to each other wonderfully into the wrong that yes and no idiot lately from discombobulated never late especially. You were rattled but brian was so relaxed. Nifty as curtain. Yeah that's ahead. Once we got our act together we dove in by talking about their parents marriages. All seven of my parents marriages were wonderful. My my mom was married four times. My dad was married three times. They had numerous boyfriends and girlfriends. And yeah so in many ways. My parents taught me what not to do. This kind of lazy attitude into marriage didn't work wherever you from from. La born and raised out there. And so you kind of against marriage no. I was married once before. When i was twenty three and then i got married again when i was thirty five. I think i was thirty. Five thirty three so ten years after my trial so it didn't scare you off marriage in fact that there were all those marriages no no. Because the woman that i married wasn't a bad person. She was a lovely person. It just it just was the wrong time. And i wasn't in love with her. And i i think i took a very casual look at it. It wasn't fair to her. Wasn't fair to me. Fortunately we didn't have any children and she went her separate way and remarried and has a life and the life she wanted. Let you and what about your family. I came from the complete opposite of his. I had leave it to beaver. I was raised in whittier. Little tiny town nixon's hometown. I'm a native californian too. I never wanted to get married. It wasn't a high on my list and my parents never instilled in me. The need to be married. We grew up in mostly are formative years in the seventies and the the sexual revolution in the sixties busted open and the seventies sort of celebrated that kind of looseness and you got waylaid and off track. I think a lot by fun. Yeah by fun and by freedom and convincing yourself that you may be in love with someone when you're really not and you may not have that much in common with them and now you're in so deep you like. Oh how do i extract myself. I got married very and then afterward. I realized oh i've made a mistake and i realized then find do this again. I really have to know what i'm doing and be in love so then you met on a set right. We met on a on a really terrible television show called air wolf which starred a helicopter and and i was a bad guy of the week on this episode. She was the victim of the week. I kidnapped her and held her for ransom and other women say how sexy you had a gun on her threatened to kill her or dater. We met on air wolf. We didn't start dating that. It was a year later that we ran into each other in improv comedy class and and got to know each other and got to be friends. But i think we were. We were lucky we were guided to this the year. The at the time that we met we had a girlfriend to. She had a boyfriend so we were able to just not have the tension. I should make a move and ask her out and were able to just a fun and flirt. And and that's nice and we just kind of slowed into it as opposed to over extending yourself physically making that commitment and then having to backtrack to figure out who this person is who you just have relations with. That is so new. Are we fool ourselves. And we'd go. Oh my god. I'm doing this again. And then i went to oxford for a summer and he came over and he stopped at oxford and and i went. Oh it's you. And i've never felt that way my life. If you mean. I can't explain it except that it was just this reaction to oh i do. I do wanna get married and i wanna marry you. That's so you knew that. I knew pretty fast and i had never felt that way before. And you were you thinking that she could be the one. Yeah i was. I was very keen on this. We had the most romantic date in at stratford-upon-avon rented a punt. And we were. We had sandwiches beautiful day. Wine found a little shady place under a tree in the water. We kissed like bandits. How lovely how great. Your proposal received a lot of that. Is that best in london that he owned a cabin with a friend of his to actors. They bought a cabin up in big bear. It was hilarious because the bafta was a standard sized bathtub in a crappy cabin in the mountains so there wasn't any room for me to face him facing the spout back was against his chest. Yes so i kept thinking. I designed it this way because i thought that if i was to face her and trying to get these leads out i would cry. I would crack. I'd i really did so. I thought man. Am i going to do this. How am i gonna do i. Champagne little music going. And i'm going. What the hell. And every time. I start to talk that she starts to turn around to look and i pushed her face back toward the front so that i could let me just get this out. Was that a surprise. At that moment. It wasn't surprised because it was like. I know where this is going. Kind of now. The other thing was the ring. Yeah we're nude as one is right. Where would i put the ring. So i think you'll see it. There's if i put no down the drain. And i i don't i put it on my baby toe. I put it all the way on my and submerged the foot at segue so.

"So britney spears had her testimony at her conservative ship hearing yesterday and it was one of those moments you truly just stop and say oh my god what am i even hearing. Yeah miss. This is britney spears. we're talking about the girls. So many of us grew up with her. Songs are still part of soundtracks of our lives. I know every and we travel and make play list. We have britney spears on the as always And yesterday she was the voice on a conference. Call basically begging a judge for help. The main reason i'm here is because i want the conservatives ship without having to be evaluated yes so to get out of her conservative ship. Basically brittany would need to successfully pass a mental health or medical evaluation and brittany believes. She's done enough and shouldn't have to do that. Yeah so this conservative ship has been in place since two thousand eight and as we talked about yesterday it started in late. Two thousand seven one britney's life seemed to be spinning publicly out of control And back then so. The california courts approved a petition. That said her dad. Jamie spears could be co conservator of her life and that meant he was put in charge of everything and when we say everything. We mean literally everything. We're talking money. Her career her personal life and back then britney did acknowledge a move that saved her career but that was thirteen years ago and understandably brittany has had enough lied and told the whole world. I'm okay and i'm happy. It's a lie. I thought i just. Maybe i said that enough. Maybe i might become happy. Because i've been in denial. I've been in shock. I am traumatized you know. Fake it till you make it. But now i'm telling you the truth okay. I'm not happy. I can't sleep. I'm so angry. it's insane yet. brittany were also angry. It's insane so we are with you on that sure. God i can't imagine. I i mean for years. We've been hearing from her. Dad's attorneys all brittany needs to do is petition the courts to get out of this conservative ship. Ma'am i didn't know i could petition the conservative shift to ended. I'm sorry for my ignorance. But i honestly didn't know that but honestly i don't think i owe anyone to be evaluated. I've done more than enough. Yeah i mean. The fact that she didn't know feels like a lot to me so her her lawyer. Sam ingham is court appointed. She's never been able to choose her lawyer and she's been trying to for years she's been trying to have the right to choose her own lawyer. Meanwhile her dad has all these fancy expensive lawyers. That britney is paying for rice. Oh is salmon. Gum like not telling her things he should be telling her. It's really making me question him while it's one of those things where it's like. She said that she has said she doesn't want this so presumably. She said it to her lawyer. At one point at which point the would say. Hey if you don't want it we just gotta do this petition right. So why didn't that conversation happen exactly. What's very clear from. Yesterday is just how crazy. This setup really is for britney and i'm not at all surprised. She sounded so upset and her testimony. She literally has no control over her own life. I shouldn't be in a conservative. Should if i can work in provide money in work for myself and pay other people it makes no sense. The laws need to change. What state allows people to own another person's money in account and threatened them in saying. You can't spend your money unless you do what we want you to do when she said this about like she's obviously Okay to work. She shouldn't be in a conservative. I was so proud of her. Like just hear her. Like stand up for herself with so amazing to me a looked it and i know that a lot of people are like it's crazy about the money and how she's paying for all this to happen which is absolutely ridiculous but there were some even more surprising bombshells to me things that i did. Not even i mean these are things you're hearing from somebody who is a pop star and educated and has a lot of money in. It's like she's living lake. She's just this prisoner had a ide- inside of myself right now. So i don't get pregnant. I wanted to take the id out. So i could start trying to have another baby but the so called team. Let me go to the doctor to take it out because they they don't want me to have children anymore. Children so basically this conservatives ship is doing me way more harm than good one more time just for those people way way in the bath. Stop telling women what to do with their bodies were done. I mean this is just truly unimaginable to me like yes. She wants to get married. She wants to have kids and the conservative ship is saying nope you can't do that. We're going to force you to have an iud. Which i'm sorry. Iud's can be extremely painful to put in and to take out and to not be able to consent to that. I mean what kind of handmaid's tale life is this seriously to hear her actual voice. Yeah no that s. She's still in there and she's trying and she's fighting. Maybe emotional honestly yes. She's definitely not that softspoken southern girl. We all remember. No she's she's a grown woman and she's angry and she's done with it. Yeah and had every right to be. I mean you could hear it in her voice. She was clearly nervous but she knew what she had to say and she said it. Yeah it's like one of those things where like a kid comes home from school and they have so much to tell them about the day and they're like and this happened in this and you're hell she had so much to say finally someone who's gonna listen and she got it out and it's i'm glad she did. Yeah so the next court date is set for the middle of july. And i'm sure there's more bombshells to come. Yeah i'm actually scared. Because i don't know what else that hasn't been said. That's going to be more shocking. But here's hoping girl gets the freedom she deserves. Yes from wondering. I'm marie skimmer william and i'm brooks efren. This is rich and daily. See itamara ritchie's..

"If there's something that's more important to the other than it is to us that we just decided to do it. The way the other one lots to free sample one of the things that i did Before we were married was. I would go to las vegas often and when we got married. Mary despise las vegas. I do she you know. I mean the first time we went. She pointed out that most of the men that were wearing more jewelry than she and she almost nothing there that she really liked but then she realized that i i enjoy going there and i'd like to gamble and i liked the show is and i liked and i liked the ambiance and and so she not grudgingly. When you do something for somebody don't do it grudgingly. Don't don't make them feel that you're doing them a favor and she is sort of embraced going and i think although she may tell you. The different microphones off. But i think she actually enjoys going there. How often do you go probably a three or four times a year. Wow to vegas a see what. I used to six times a year just to go every other month but but but now about three or four times and lost twenty dollars depressed. I didn't have twenty fun. Yeah right gorsuch was back when you though well. Here's what i did. I figured out. Okay this gee. I thought he was so intelligent humor. You're going to las vegas now. He never went crazy. You know he'd never lost a lot of money you know. He never gambled the house And i decided all right. He likes to do this i do. We do stuff. I like to do that. He doesn't like to do so. We will even it out. And i said what. Can i do there that i like. I like to hit tennis balls. So we would go there. And i would hire the pro and i'd spend the afternoon on the tennis court. I was perfectly happy. Yeah so. I just decided he likes to do this. We do stuff. I like to do that. He doesn't and so. I'll find a ditch. Yeah and i did find. It's fun to go. That's the shows are good. That's good. I never stay up really and so what are some of the things that he does for you that that he doesn't like to do what you like to do. I i might be wrong about this but when we first started taking bike trips as a vacation right of vacation. You've got your your way about how hotel the cap on. That's my idea. I bike trip was twenty nine years ago. And we've been doing ever since really we do two or three a year. Wow and it's perfectly clear that he does that. I think you it's like las vegas i have come to sort of like it but In the beginning the idea of You get the bike trips. You go for a week and you and you travel like forty fifty sometimes sixty miles day. Oh my god and get up early. And so i don't like to get up early. Be i don't really dislike exercise but not a high priority for me. I am just fascinated that you do this bike trips. I've a really one of the nice things does that. We're together entire day. nothing else happening. You know we can just ri- together talk and it's very peaceful. Yeah there came a time. When i said to you whatever you wanna do i wanna do. Wow and i thought to myself here you are. You're lawyer you're a feminist and you're saying to this man whatever you want and i thought good grief. It's come to this but a lot of things changed wasn't a negotiation anymore. The next day he became a nicer person was and it became an upward spiral. I think that's kindness. And it changed everything and i will actually whatever you wanted. I want because. I really felt the same way we decided. I don't know ten years into our marriage. We've been bickering about unimportant things and we just decided are we in or are we out remarried. Or aren't we if we're married let's make a really good thing and so when we disagree on stuff and i think he has an eye with what's really important here a great loving marriage so he's dead wrong on this issue who cares. I don't really. i don't have to win. Every argument is one of you. More likely to be the peacemaker or oh of course. I don't think either one of us i would. I would not say china trade around on the inside one of us. I think that we're both pretty good as i say at keeping things in context i'm married to someone who is not your typical great lawyer. He is off the charts. I use that to my advantage. I don't resent that. I learned from him. I still argue. I respond but you pretty much dazzle me what you come up with. And i love it. That's mary and david boies. I don't know how they could be more in tune with each other. It was so moving to see how they share each other's joys and sorrows and passions. That's what barriers is all about until next time i'm phil donahue and i'm marlo thomas and i don't want to be right right. I can tell myself i'm writing. We're back to our conversation with david and mary boys they're both so smart. It's hard to believe that david was dropping out after high school. I mean i don't know what happened if my first wife had not got me to go to college but why didn't you wanna go. I didn't like school. I'm dyslexic as i got further along in school reading was i didn't really like reading law. You must how did you do. I listen well. I can learn almost everything i wanted. Just listening class to my professors. I'm still not a great reader. But i didn't read it all until i was in third grade. The most important thing is to understand that it is an input problem not a processing problem. It's an it's an ability to absorb information. It's not how well you think. I mean there's no negative correlation between dyslexia and intelligence right but all those facts that you have to gather in order to make a case the research you have to do and i do have to do some reading but as i listened really well i think it has taught me to organize my thoughts to simplify things. Seek out the things that are important. Because you can't read everything that's breathtaking. All of those. It really is. I bet you can't imagine it right. I'm not hardwired that way. But i don't have his processing power but it's fun to live with matt. So where are you on the jealousy meter. i'm sicilian i'm very jealous. David has friends who were women and they are friends. And i was jealous for a while but then put that away i it. How did you do with it. What if you wanted to be with him. He'd be with him. he's left two wives. He knows how to do. Want to be here just about a lawyer. I figured we often had his former wives or one of them come on vacations. Oh my because their grandchildren and children right were there and he asked me once. Do you mind if carole comes on the christmas trip. I thought his first wife. And i thought why would i mind because her four children who were still growing up and then grandchildren were on those trips. And you're spending a week in the caribbean. How can i say grandmother camp. Either so i said to myself if he wanted to be with her he wouldn't her so yeah bring her on. I really meant that. And it's been good and it's good for the children. Yeah i'm sure it is. But i'm not jealous of them at all. His second wife is a friend of mine when i met her. I sort of gasped thought. That's me ten years older. That's how this works okay. It'll be fun while it turns out. It did last one of the things. I think that we've learned from a lot of these couples. Is that people change things about themselves. In order to accommodate another person. Well free sample. She wanted to down my house. And that's seem to me at the time to be a really bad idea. Because i thought it was a perfectly good house of ranch style hideous of rubbish it. It was a nicer house. That i'd ever lived in seattle them and i thought it was. I thought it was perfectly good now. I eventually understood that building. Another house was born important to her than keeping the house that we had was to me and do once. I understood that i was perfectly happy to tear down the house and build a new and and as in so many things she was right because this is a much nicer house. And i'm much happier here than i would have been if we hadn't torn down the house and built this one able to not make that a power struggle and just and just say okay. This means more to her than it does and ultra and also you know there are lots of things i don't do so well and all the things i don't know so well that she knows better than i do and does better than i do. Each of us is very conscious of..

We're back jor interview with john and justin logo samo well. They seem entirely on the same page. They grew up in very different circumstances. So challenges do arise especially when you're raising kids and sharing a home to me. I always thought like of course they'll go to private school. I wouldn't have thought it wouldn't even occur to me to do anything else. I think but we were just actually today having this conversation where john really wanted them to go to public school. And that's all. I knew i grew up going to public schools. And buddy you think that's better because world yeah as a real world and everybody's of color and it just. It was so much fun. And i don't know i would. Sometimes it was tough but some a lot of times it incredibly fun and exciting and and i learned so much in school from people in not from the teachers that were different mean just our culture so much bland cultures so much fun that you're always inundated with it. You know right a loved it so is that an accommodation that you decided to make i. I don't know that you voiced those feelings at that time you bill. You did i listen. I didn't hear it but your kids went to public school know they went to private schools. Only only only also. You may become interesting. I tried to weigh all the factors and go. You know they're going to have a celebrity name. Maybe that might not be so easy going into public school system to have coming from where we come now. Kids this sort of new income right. It may not be as comfortable right. I mean like. I had nothing and all the kids that i was fooled. Had nothing so we were all pretty even an equal right. What happens if you if you have all this in your and then go to school with kids don't have enough. How's that gonna feel so. I thought maybe that might be and you have a name. Then the psych is that can cause problems and strife right now. We live in the browns though. Because i need separation to be able to right. Oh i can't be on the same floor. I can't right so she made that concession living in a browser when she rather live in an apartment we tried living in an apartment for a few years but john was so miserable that it just wasn't worth it much stimuli again. I need to be with my thoughts. I mean look. I married an actor who was his. Life was no surprise to me. I knew him for years before we got married. I knew that he was going to be traveling a lot and that there was no clear schedule. And it's not easy. We're like circus folk. I've been an active for so long. That i i didn't understand the sacrifices she was making because i was so used to being uprooted all the time. I had no control over geography or time or destiny that you just surrender to. It got work. But that's what i mean. Yeah i mean it was hard on. A marriage is hard on kids with us. We tried at first. Yeah but it was really difficult to travel so they were five we and then we stopped and then i stopped. We stopped going. Was that hard a new marriage. Yeah but know. We tried to keep a two week. Maximum that was a thing. I don't remember any sort of that. Was that was no. That'd be we tried but you there were months. We didn't see each other for months at a time. I mean it just. Was it hard on the marriage. I mean i guess at times you know. Marriage is an easy so would all that travelling what they must have been some jealousy right little bit of jealousy. I was very jealous. Affiliate you know right now when when he traveled or yeah and he's way and the women love famous people were man love famous people. And you know. There's something alluring about a person who's talented very famous absalom to famous good-looking funny. Hey jealousies the. I am not a jealous person. But i'm joe's personally and so will you left for along time. That bothers me you know. Yeah so yeah. No i i had issues so tell us what you to. We'll be talking about it. We talked me. We were pretty articulate. It wasn't like fighting. It was just more like you know voicing that you know. I'm uncomfortable with this. I'm uncomfortable with that. That bothers me and she's incredibly understanding about that. So like male friends and stuff like that right. That's exactly because i lived in hollywood and phil lived in chicago when we first met and now first couple years of marriage. We traveled and he would read the paper. That i'd go out to dinner with chuck grodin viral like an old old friend and he pointed tenure with chuck roden. I'd say he's this old friend of mine who directed me in two things. I co starred with him in a movie. You know he's a. Yeah but you know feel uncomfortable. Yeah yeah yeah right right to of you. Yeah yeah okay did you stop. Yeah yeah me too. I thought worth it. But i would watch on television and all these women look like he was a big ice cream cone i think oh god they gonna come up to him afterward and tickle his fancy. What's going to happen here. None of matters. Because i know that his ultimate commitment is to me and my children are life together. How do you fight. And how do you come back. Because if you don't know have to come back that's usually how marriage is. I believe you shouldn't say can't take back and i try. She's not as so as good. She's not as good as with that part of it. I mean more mean. She'll say anything. I can be enraged but not say things that you can't take back or do things that i can't take back. It's very rare that he really loses control. When i say rare. I mean.

Jimmy carter on my show when he was president but it was very different sitting with him and first lady rosalynn couple to couple and talking about something. As personal as our marriages we flew down to atlanta and met them at the carter center their legendary humanitarian foundation. This was our first interview for this project. And what a way to start with american royalty. We were shown into his very formal office. I remember the two huge flags on either side of the desk. One with the stars and stripes and the other with the presidential seal and he just came bounding in this man in his nineties. Any pointed out a beautiful wooden chair that he had carved himself who is impressive. I'm sure it must be a challenge for roseland to keep up with his energy. They've been together for an unbelievable seventy five years. We had to ask them. How first of all love and friendship goes together. And we've found a long time ago that arguments and disagreements are inevitable too strong will beep but we decided quite early on in our marriage to give each other plenty of space. In fact a is interested in solving. She doesn't po away and and she accepts my help when she needs it and vice versa. When i have a special interest she she gives me plenty of space or time to work although product but she helps me when i needed shows spaces. I think the key is. We decided to go to make sure we did. Never go to sleep. angry with. We have a lot of arguments jenner daytime but we just made up binded though we would become reconciled at night show so we we never go to sleep bed. still angry. that square in assam We were talking is what is it a. Some people never can come back from a misunderstanding. How do you that you guys always come back from met. Well first of all basic premise of not ever being the proud of ability to communicate with each show sub does way do get on the huffing rozier by palpable my palpable but we try to get reconciled most them i take the initiative when i realized that the two sides issue of ours role that let's say we do. We will christian both over so we read the bible every night and we have done that for fifty years baby really and how do you go in order or do you pick a page. Just went right now. We're going through the test but spanish. We have a spanish english version so one night road rage. The next night. I read travelling overseas when roosevelt traveling. We still read the same shepherd. Bob love it it. We might be five thousand miles apart. We still share the same taste. So it's been a all in all it's obviously been a good life. It has been a good life now but matt without its challenges. That's why we've had kosta challenges set by should not getting reelected president the first of iraq's government i've failed to be elected how did you come back knows losses. Did you use rosa to help you back. Or did you go a corner powder think he had to help me upset really. Yeah and he was upset. But i was more upset because he helped me out. Because i got no failed politics rosenberg with the public anger with reagan and so forth i think of ways to combat out so i looked surging Fall for good things about not being reelected though so i had paid which we did and so. That's how the call center for something to do. I was i was just fifty. Six years. Old rosen fifty. Three a week do had say twenty five years of life ahead of us. "Single time. I know hugs until i came along. And now if i don't hug him when i walk in the door he's like where's my hog sweet. How they kind of warmed up to and part of that. I think is like my mom's parents and my dad and my dad's parents and my mom because again there was this friction that always existed so you could feel it as soon as for me when it was when the grandparents were over it was a palpable tension. And there's a lot of nice to meet you. And i shake hands changed because it wasn't arranged and they felt like they were different backgrounds. And and i don't think that my my dad's parents probably ever even till the very end fully accepted my mom. My mom was family was not very devout. My dad's mom was probably the most about hindu out of all four grandparents. She was jane which is a very sort of more strict hindu tenant. But i think just because my mom's parents were they were fleeing. They were fleeing persecution and the idea of religion was a bit of an indulgence. I think you know we had a little. We had a little deity in our house growing up but in other weren't any temples so it wasn't like we could really be devout in the united states. that time in the sixties but they experienced religious persecution in pakistan for sure caused them to leave the more reserved about showing any kind of religious interference. How did they feel about you marrying a hindu person. Well good question by data passed away long before i started a date me. He probably knows how he reacted anything. We'd probably been fine by the time we married My mom incurred like he'd gotten like you know. He was finnish and swedish. So it wasn't that he was just like you know we stay at home and we do our things. We wasn't until they retired that they suddenly develop this huge social life right. I think my dad probably would've had been very similar. Except for the fact that he passed away before you know before he even when he passed fifty. And what about your mom. How does she feel about sanjay. Oh she she loved him she she. My mom's just figs sweetheart. She loves she. She thinks he's so smart and fascinating and even to this day. She's like well. I wanna know where he is. I worry about him and and she's very Like like humble and chai around him. So it's kinda sweet right. My mother was italian. Gone father was lebanese and they were the children of arranged marriages. But both both my grandparents were arranged marriages. But my mother didn't like irish people. Yeah i've read a huge article about that. Did she live here in in new york michigan. Detroit in detroit in a sort of lower middle class and her father was a talian and they had two trucks and they still produce of their trucks so they were five kids. They went to school. They had an education and My grandmother stayed home but she was a singer and got little job singing the synagogue or the church of wherever would have she would love to sing but But the in those poor neighborhoods you know. The jews were had their area and the irish their area and the italian said their area and so the irish will considered sort of the lower class people and the shanty irish. So my mother's going out with phil donahue. She said louise irish. My mother had thing there and then well then she got to know him and she loved him when he wanted i malarkey hundred over. So how did you meet. Did we meet at a bar. Classic american mutual friends introduced this in college to the university of michigan. Yeah and i think when we met we were both dating someone else at the time we definitely had more of a shared experience right away and we just had a lot that we had in common talk about red out of the gate And you're thinking about taking a lot of science classes. I remember that because.
