"By straight talk wireless some tweeters are writing and that the agent the don van Natta mentioned there are Emmanuel is the inspiration for the ari gold character in entourage I was not actually aware of that that is something that is new to me are you got it will be handling the Twitter account in the Instagram account all our social media over the course of the weekend we enjoyed it the last time he did it about a month ago and then things got crazy but now while we are have gone a month year of slightly less crazy and it's okay to fool around I guess a little more on social media Mike I wanted to ask you about something Vince McMahon's to god's got dragged in to this White House conference call with sports commissioners then I didn't feel like he belonged M. but he got there anyway because for whatever the reasons are professional wrestling has more credibility than it probably deserves given that we don't seem to treat it with the same sort of diligence about killing it athletes the way that we treat other sports that are unsafe wrestlers died early at a disproportionate rate I'm telling you during the pandemic when my crime was putting on every day some wrestling show from the nineties two thousand everybody was dead there was nobody still alive in wrestling and now when wrestling came in here's to gods and use the loophole first on Florida's open for business all right now a bunch of wrestlers are are sick all over the place right laugh where they've got a legitimate outbreak where sports is now returning for the money over the health of its people and the W. W. E. isn't getting any sort of criticism that I can see from any of you know mainstream outlets about like man this was really responsible and now you've got not surprisingly enough they're just getting the criticisms from the the entities that cover it which aren't considered mainstream journalistic ventures you can't get well I guess you can't because Vince McMahon proved that you can get the credibility credibility the legitimacy and none of the accountability because they kept doing this and they said that they were testing but you can play fast and loose with what testing means just taking someone's temperature that counts is testing so they were doing all these shows from their performance center without actually doing covert nineteen testing so there was no knowing who was a symptomatic wrestlers took it upon themselves to say Hey no I I think I'm feeling symptoms or I'm feeling uncomfortable but this is their job they don't get paid if they don't show up in many respects so they go to this performance center that doesn't have the proper protocols they start inviting fans in this is the height of the arrogance coming from Vince McMahon and WWE they start inviting some fans everybody in the audience not using face covers and then someone in that audience who is a friend or family member of one of the performers that's what they said started feeling symptoms tested positive then the actual testing for common nineteen amongst the talent and backstage personnel goes goes on I know you have north of two dozen positive test results and not a word from mainstream media you get the legitimacy you get the loopholes by being a professional sport because of an established relationship with the president this needs to be shut down the gods how is that possible can you explain to me how it's possible the professional wrestling okay and I don't want to get into semantics argument with the people who love professional wrestling but basic basically script choreography that is also scripted choreography that is also athletic okay I don't want to argue with you about whether it's a real sport or fake sport or whether what they do is dangerous or athletic it is athletic but everything there is scripted how is it that that gets into a conference call with the White House on sports returning with Vince McMahon as the leader and all he gets is the power and the money without any of the shame like how is that possible that that is something that is happening right now as we are coming back with sports and wrestling is trying to come back and we've been told that football is very dangerous because the contact sport wrestling obviously a contact sport where people are breathing all over each other and now because the testing was inadequate like how can you not come down on Vince McMahon with you like your testing how how can you be sloppy about this I you would fit well they're not going to come down on him because he's providing them with feel good plus people don't take it seriously you know care enough to come down on visit Bob McMahon on something so serious this is like it's very concerning what's going on in the state of Florida another record day today sixteen bow just wanted this out only sixty and I'm saying this because I was surprised it was only sixty eight of the three hundred and two NBA players that were tested only sixteen tested positive and now you're bringing them down to the state with the correct drivers is growing more rapidly than any other state United States like I don't know what we're doing here this seems it's indeed saying what went on here but it's all driven by money I have seen it take only sixteen let's put this in perspective this is almost exactly four months for four months after the initial shutdown of America in sports the premier league has has plenty of teams in it and bigger rosters they have accomplished ten full rounds of testing they get tested often right they are now in their second week second full week over resumption of play they've had eighteen positive tests throughout that we're in testing phase one with the NBA and they basically equaled what the flyers or tested positive in the premier league see what happened Ellis you daily close to forty it's an embarrassment in this kind that is stray dog is brought to you by straight talk wireless no contract no compromise less than five weeks until the NBA tips off.

"Who is the point person at the network for the Lebron? Group on the decision sat down with he was the first interview. We did actually a little over a year ago. And then Vince Doria. Who is the head of the news division? retired in two thousand fifteen. He also sat down and talked about the tensions inside the news division of trying to cover an event that the entertainment side you know, had every interest in in letting Lebron. Break the story versus the NBA insider so I think we're pretty fair, but tough on ESPN and I think that I hope that the audience will find that were down the middle, and and the issues that occurred at that time at the network Are you know are covered in-depth now? I will I. I Will Jimmy One disappoint was Jim. Gray declined to talk with me. WE TRIED? We ran into him multiple times. I really wanted to sit down with him and and ask him questions about those twenty three questions and the way it was handled and everything else. We have some reporting about that that we have in the show, but he just he would not sit down with me. Unfortunately, did they give you reason why any reason why? He wouldn't sit down, you know he did, and he never responded to my reaching out to him. He did speak briefly to our show runner Robert. Of great documentary filmmakers on Right Co-founder Review Sixty and just said he just didn't want anything to do with the project. it so so that that is a regret that we couldn't sit down with gray and hear his side of the story. I'm glad you brought that up because this was going to be my last question before we wrap I love a spoiler. If you don't give a spoiler, I totally understand I I'm really looking forward to seeing the skipper party and the Vince Doria part there about how? This went down with the SPN news versus Pinot containment, but if you can tell us if you can't you WANNA, save it for Sunday I understand. How did Jim Gray become? Those was that Lebron's pick was at ESPN's pick. How did that happen? Oh, no, I don't mind I. Don't mind discussing that, so this is interesting. This was a maverick Carter's pick so one of the things that we talked about in the show is. Is, this was really a a maverick. Carter production that the cameras belong to ESPN satellite uplink did but maverick and and Lebron by extension, but really maverick was calling the shots and Jim. Gray was not wanted by ESPN ESPN. Wanted one its own host, the duty, the late great stuart, Scott or Bobbly and in instead the Lebron camp, and mostly maverick insisted it. Be Jim Gray, and so it was Jim Gray so. That's kind of interesting and that would be. That would be amazing if that happened today because that would leak. And then have all the P. the Richard ideas the benched rouse's the Andrew Marr Shans by. Everyone would be ripping ESPN shreds for letting maverick Carter dictators the host of that sort of probably ten years ago. When social media wasn't what it is now. They got away with it, but not fly today. Yeah I. that's that's probably true, but an and looked at the interview with skipper is quite candid. I'm really proud of that. Interview of skipper sat down with me, and I think is quite revealing about what the incentives and motives ESPN had to do. The show this was one hour of network time that was donated to Lebron James the Lebron James Family. Family! Foundation made a two million dollar contribution. I found in its tax returns to the boys and girls clubs of America. So ESPN made no money on that one hour. The the money that the network made was on. You know the bumper programming the three hour pre show in to our Po- show and skippers very open about that I. Ask him in the in the Baxter episode, Jimmy I say did ESPN US Lebron. Lebron Lebron US ESPN, and he said it was mutual use, and so absolutely. Yeah, and so I. I just I was I was very happy to to be able to sit down with him and get him to talk about what the motives beyond what the motives were, and and and Y ESPN decided to do it. Including allowing the Lebron camp to pick the hosts that was going to ask the questions on its air well. Well I listen I get why I get why ESPN did it, and did it for no money, because then they are in the good graces and get access to the greatest athlete in the entire world. Who was the greatest athlete in the entire world ten years ago? Is Today in you, know they? You know when you need them to do something. Then you have access to him so I get it from that standpoint. I think though when you you know in you. Let them pick the hosts. That's where it gets a little dicey, but I guess you can't do the show unless he gets to pick the hotel. Yeah, and and you know what you're saying about about the access That's arguable that's that's not by the way with skipper or cling scales. Does all I'm sure they would? Not Jimmy. No, but I know, but what what I wanted to say about that, but the but the answer, though the skipper does give on that because I asked that question, you know from a business standpoint, you know. Why would you do this with this arrangement of donated? The our is answer on that I'll let viewers find out, but it's it's quite revealing. It's not about future access but more about that moment, and what was in it for espn at that moment Gotcha I look forward to that. I look forward to the whole show backstory the decision this. Sunday nine PM is pin pin. Had A you know no sports? It's been a documentary fest the last couple of months here so I'm sure this will be a good one looking forward to it. Thanks for coming on and. Spend a little time I appreciate it. Thank you Jimmy Joy it. Be well. I might thanks the Don. Van Natta enjoyed the conversation a lot looking.

What do you think there's should be Major League Baseball in October? He Says No, he you know. There's really no filters times with them right and and so yeah, it's frustrating for sports fans to hear those kinds of projections, but all I mean to say as you. You know his job is to get us through this and we sometimes forget that because certain things, he says we just don't want to hear in the moment and again not his full, but if he does an interview and says he doesn't Think Baseball Gets Rock Tober the sport fan, and in their head, says okay well, then what about the NFL, because the NFL's being played now there's no baseball. There's no. It just leads to more sort of anarchy. I think when he when he does that stuff, but again I don't think it's I think he's extremely well intentioned. "This is what. And, people don't know that Novak Djokovic who doesn't believe in vaccines, which okay fine, but then he has to have a party with nobody wearing masks, the stupidity and the ignorance. It wears you down when it's constant, nonstop, everyday and even. Cheaper who you cannot create if you are a fiction writer Amore Benign figure right a guy who just wants to help people. Be Healthy. That's why he's here. He's been doing it since the Reagan administration. There's a target on him. People can't stand them. They don't want a lot of people in this country. They don't want to hear. Anything has to say in the always. Do is trying to help us. Well I'm sort of in that category now. He he he lost. It will here's to listen I. Think he is like he's very benign I think he has nothing but good intentions. I don't think I think he wants to do the right thing and my issue with him is I, think he should. He. His problem is that trump cut him off so now. We don't see FAUCI at briefings. And my issue with my only issue without you really is I think he should stop the interviews or get the flip flopping, and it might even be flip-flopping because listen like people got on him because in March, he said you don't need masks, but wear gloves because it can come from services now I believe that was his honest assessment. And in then researching more about corona, things change, they learn different things. And then it became about the mass that is a legitimate I have no issue with this my issue with vouchers, you know he does an interview with one sports outlet, and it's football. No problem then it's football can't happen, baseball should. My issue. Specifically about the sports things he's. He's been all over the map with it. And if it's that's why I want to hear Fao g about Corona and what we need to do about the coronavirus, his opinions on the sports stuff. I would less interviews with might be better for the. There has been some mixed messaging. Look, there's been mis mixed messaging from the administration all over the map and that's a big problem right. I mean there's no leadership. There's an assault. There's no leadership right and and I hear you on Fao, CI. He has contradicted himself, but it certainly seems lately. He's been more consistent just with his cynicism and with his. His warnings about whether we will have football or not whether Major. League. Baseball complain October It's been more of a drumbeat of doom when it comes to sports from at least from what I've heard in the last couple of weeks Jimmy and a lot of people in this country don't WanNa. Hear that so sports fans have shortly turned on him or many of them across the country and again my view of him as you say, it's got. The best intentions has been a perfect communicator. No, but as he's learned information to you know he certainly the voice of cynicism from the administration when there's very few of those. You, know absolutely and I again. I think part of the problem. Is that because? I think the guy should be on TV every day even if it's just for ten minutes given us a corona. And then maybe that would sort of take them off some of the interviews with them. We get some contradictions you know I. I think he's great from this like. When it comes to the virus what we need to do. It. How know didn't he say? Then he was saying at one point. He said he's not sure that would be a second way. It's the speculation I. "Not Beyond the Mississippi. They've gotTA travel a lot in even just sixty games. That's a lot of risk taking. That's going to be done in a very short period of time. As interesting, because I in my opinion and I'd love to get into this for a little bit just for you know I think baseball can be okay because it's going to be. Outside and I think baseball is a sport where the players don't need to be on top of each other now the NBA. They're going to be indoors. Yeah, and they're sweating all over each other for two and a half hours. I think the NBA is the one that's going to have the bigger issues. Now you? You could be right You're probably right Yes, it's close quarters. They're hunkered down in in in one place. And of course, the the support staff are not going to be quarantined from what I understand, right? They're going to be out in the community, and they're going to be in the community as we've been talking about. Florida is spiralling with fifty five hundred new kittens just today on Wednesday, so yeah I think you're right. I think the NBA probably the odds are are much tougher for the NBA to get through the whole thing, but but even baseball I just think that now look where I saw, somebody used the verb bull rush for the NFL the NFL's tournament. We'll rush through COVID. I, think all the major sports are trying to do that. I think it's a great verb that describes it and fingers crossed, but the odds are really steep that we're going to get through any of these seasons. It's funny. You say that because here we are talking about. You mentioned MLB I mentioned. NBA and the NFL has seemed to basically. been the one that's been able to escape through COVID. Pretty you know their draft got into. You know a lot of the draft in Vegas, but then they put it on TV and ESPN had bonkers ratings for it, and they've been able to really I think fly under the radar and who knows what's going to happen with the NFL, but I I said this. I think I said this on the podcast last week with Andrew, Marshall and maybe. The one that no. I shouldn't say that about that's. The one that's getting I think the least amount of attention that will end up being the most fascinating one in all of this will be college football because of the differences in every state I mean I think that if Alabama played a football game today at eight eight thousand fans, chill out masks and ready to go. Yes, Sir and I won't make any other derogatory statements about the people in Alabama, but then you have states like you mentioned where you Texas who you know. Where there now you know the governor is basically telling. You need to wear masks so I don't know what college football I think is the one where we as a collective. The media, but the media sort of we're. We're so focused on MLB, NBA and NFL. I in college is going to be a complete show. Absolutely it will be and you know I. I don't know how a place like a single college if it has a team that has an issue in the big ten. You Hypothetical Michigan has a problem. A lot of players have covid. What happens to the big tent if they're trying to. If they're trying to play through with just a single team, it's running through and the previous week. You know. They played Penn State. Know what what happens you got you got. You GotTa shut it down and and you'RE GONNA? Have obviously you know some regionalism plays into this College Football I. Just I'll be stunned if we see anything close to normalcy I've heard Paul Finebaum 's. You know quite cynically say he just doesn't think we're going to have anything close to a normal season. You'll have a lot of leagues that aren't are just maybe have abbreviated games and then give up or or not play games at all because of course, every college is is approaching it differently. I've got two daughters and college. My youngest is going to Fordham as as a freshman. Fordham is dealing with it differently than my oldest was supposed. Austin University her her university so in how they're in their planning for the fall, so every school is different Every a conference is going to be different and I grew the Jimmy. It has sort of flown into the radar screen of what college football is going to be like and but more likely not. We're not GONNA see we're not gonNA see too many college football games this fall. I I mean I can see the SEC playing their own sort of conference tournament, and no one else going it. Yes, go. Yeah, that's that's most likely thing. Absolutely. Yes, he see. The SEC will bowl rush through the way the NFL trying to rush through a covert. And remember you know there was all this discussion. The summer is going to be better. Things are going to turn around once we get out of the winter and spring months, and and half the country is spiking as we're heading towards July fourth. Which is really I? Think I think to get your first question, Jimmy. That's why it's I'm feeling like you. It's it's depressing like enough already like this is supposed to be the lull. And it's this bad. What's it? GonNa be like an October November But what's depressing for me is the reaction of people who don't WanNa wear masks. Because of their quote, unquote freedoms. You know the video, the constant barrage of videos of an old guy pushing. A, worker Walmart out of his way to get into the store without a man..

"A new ESPN, sort of documentary that is airing this. Sunday on Brian James and the decision called backstory the decision and investigates everything that went into the Lebron. James ESPN collaboration where he announced he was leaving the cavs for the heat. Dan is the host and the reporter on it, and really enjoyed talking to him about it. We also talked about other things. sort of the. State of the sports world with Corona, going crazy everywhere and a little bit of a a little bit about Bubba. Wallace got into a little bit about Dr Fao Ci, and his comments about sports, so we covered all of that with Don. It's been a rough week. I gotta say. This was a hard one to do just because I feel like the focus right now is on everything that bad in. In, sports of. Like I said the corona is going crazy. People don't WanNa wear masks. Novak Djokovic just a complete dope hosting a party? The BUBBA Wallace situation with people just reacting in a horrific way as usual. Just horrible people fighting about things constantly on twitter got to stay away from twitter. That's really what the point is so I tried to put together I. Apologize, but Don was great and I'm really looking forward to the decision I think that's going to be interesting. How're you doing great, Jimmy? How are you? Hanging in there, hanging in there, I gotta be honest. I am looking very forward to backstory the decision. Sunday at nine PM. very excited to talk to you about it I think the decision is one of those things that Every sports fan still has some feelings about like. Say just the overall. Just insanity of this week I I was like you know I don't even WanNa tape a podcast as I cannot believe the what's going on in the sports world this week with. You have all these cases of corona popping up, and then, of course you have to deal with corona true Thursday. It's not a big deal because you know who cares. People get it totally not factoring in that it could spread, and then people can somehow old people allowed to just go, and now it's not a big deal Novak. Djokovic is having his stupid party. And then you have Obama while i. mean this has been I. Don't know if you feel this way. I was curious because I was like. Oh, I, whoever I! I'm back. Are they having a rough as rough time dealing with this week as I, am absolutely it now it's hitting me. We have fifty five hundred cases today in Florida. I live in Miami and Aubrey Day it goes up, it spirals upward and I was in Naples this weekend, and almost everywhere I looked. You know the mask on social distancing. I'm being very careful. People run around without masks and. It people are not taking seriously all the things you said I mean to equate this with the sniffles as we've heard, is ridiculous and outrageous, so yeah, it has been. It's been tough. Look, we're all sick of it, but to because we're sick of it. The sort of wave, the victory flag over something that clearly is is got a lot of. A lot of kick in its engine. Seems Insane to me? And the crazy thing is so you're in Miami where in Florida? It's really getting bad and I'm here in new. York where we went through a rough patch, and we're on a really good downslope with it, and that was even after having you know massive protests, and which I think sort of shows that. you much safer outside than inside, but I'm not a scientist so You know it's just my own opinion, but the fact that our numbers have still gone down even after we've had the the protests go on, I, think it and most the people here if you're in New York and you see the footage, most people are wearing masks. The masks are obviously the key and then, but for some reason you have this. Portion of the country who thinks the masks are just infringing on their rights, I it you know. It's like where I am, too. I'm on long, island in Long Island Long Island. People get mad if you say either one so I don't even know which one is some anymore? But we're. We're in phase three now. Where restaurants are opening, we have the barber shops open. Nelson's are open. People who want to do that, the stores are now. You know the retail stores best buy. Open so like we're opening up and our numbers are great, but you go on twitter and it's like every five minutes. It's like Florida this Texas, there's Arizona and our start with the players. You Know Charlie black men, the of the Rockies and Von Miller can had it. And I've heard. He's still struggling with it and the golf now today on Wednesday, the golf is an like I mentioned Jovovich. Is just amazing that all you need to do is wear a mask and instead were people putting ourselves in this position. Yeah, Jimmy it's not a coincidence that the twenty states that have all spiked in the last couple of weeks are the states that basically opened up over Memorial Day weekend. I mean I think we're seeing the consequences of that in Florida Texas Arizona places where the mask wearing is not been taken seriously nearly seriously enough of course, and I keep thinking about Arizona to remember if rob Manfred had his way we would have had baseball around now in Arizona remember that was a plan just a couple of months ago. And Arizona is spiralling and you can imagine if that plan had. Taken root in. That would have happened. You know how awful that would have been from LB probably would have no season, so you know that elongated process probably worked to end obese advantage but I. don't believe we're going to see baseball I really don't I I don't WanNa be so cynical. I Love Baseball, but. You know it until that first pitch is thrown on July, twenty, third or July twenty fourth. I'm not going to believe that baseball is back because it's going to be just so difficult for you know to travel and particularly in the West the West Coast teams essentially the. Not Beyond the Mississippi. They've gotTA travel a lot in even just sixty games..

I'm back. I live in Miami and Aubrey Day it goes up, it spirals upward and I was in Naples this weekend, and almost everywhere I looked. You know the mask on social distancing. I'm being very careful. "Thousand eleven dodge doc Graham Care and the other night when she was on her way home all the warning lights and receive awarded like vehicle popcorn. Don Van died right We had a friend was able to come out and jump her which is apparently what it needed. Time get it home right The only thing that could think of that might reset the system was to disconnect the battery so I said Okay disconnect the battery. Relax expert the kids to come back out. Hook it back up right well about forty briefly issue. Hooked it back up and it didn't reset anything now. The key is stuck in addition Jason and the entire vehicle. What even power on? And she can't kept when she goes to the addition. Well yes because us because the the vehicle doesn't have enough battery power wile to operate the little park lock soul annoyed. where she you know you each turn the key and then you step on the brake to pull a car out of park after you craft you crank it but it doesn't have enough power? You know the first thing that comes to my mind. Of course it's the two thousand thousand Levin D. Do you know the age of the battery and the vehicle. The battery barely a year old and it was brand new when we bought it. I put it in myself okay. It category required to put the battery. And I got you I got you well. Yeah yeah positive. Positive negative nick. You would have known before for now you need to call me but you know what you could have an alternator problem and then the battery would be totally drained. There could be some parasitic draw. Aw but here's the bottom line. The fact is that that this guy this car put her down and she would jump started and it drove her home. Okay okay I'M GONNA. I'm GonNa say that the in this is that wishful thinking but and I'm not just saying this to make you feel good but it might. I just be that the battery is bad. Even as a year old it could still be a defective battery or or whatever it could be even even a even a battery connection so the first thing that that I would suggest is to have a friend. Come come over. And disconnect the car's battery or disconnect the battery cable and Hook up another. Either we use it. What's called a jump box which is a pretty heavy? You're familiar with jump box. which has its own battery so the first thing let's do it's unless give the vehicle another source of power and and Hook up a battery to it now? That's not the same as charging the existing battery because the existing battery even though it's a year old could have been defective and if it had a one of the straps within the battery this erotic in connection you know you've got six sales that are connected together and each one the sales this votes. That's where you get sixty two. That's where you get your twelve. Oh battery battery. So there's there's a inner wire is actually cable in a bridge but there's a interconnector and if that happens to be the problem would be lucky for you. If that happened to me the problem it would give you some erratic behavior. Like she's and she has so the first thing you do who is to take out the bad apple which means disconnect the possibly bad apple the battery and connect another battery and see if the car cranks and runs and then if it does then you could take the next step either take the battery back. She could have someone to help her. Remind her of if this does work were James if this works then what she'll what she can do is go back where you bought the matter. And they'll give her another battery but understand this. Make sure she doesn't place that battery in the trunk or the back seat or the floor of another car because it will have acid on its surface and it will cause a Elites carpet and so in other words get up so you know it's like a lot of times people will take this battery and get it checked or I'm GonNa go get a battery for someone and and try to help and then put the matter in the back of the car. That's worse than you can do so get an old box of some kind doesn't matter and if you don't have it oh box you get a garbage bag and put it down. So that is insulated from the carpet or the car and and then you know just just understand that. That's a nasty thing to carry around. Because he could have have answered on it and that's really all the time but a half of this hour but let me know how that works for you and in the meantime We're here every Saturday for you. Give me a shout I can help you okay. Oh I will against her. Thank you very much welcomed James. Good luck folks. Yet is all the time that we have this hour but I promise you next hour. "It premieres sunday on a._b._c. One o'clock eastern time with the first of five episodes of this first season the i episode serena versus the umpire and it is a pleasure to welcome to our show again don van natta junior. Thank you jeremy great to see you don. I'm really excited about the show and the series in general will what is the story. You're telling here about serena and what happened in the u._s. u._s. Open women's final in twenty eighteen well last year's women's final. If you remember serena was going for history she was trying to tie. Margaret court's record of twenty four singles titles and he's been trying for awhile for awhile but we all felt going into that that she was going to win. This was going to be a coronation. She was going going against a twenty year old and now naomi osaka which people really had some doubts about whether she had any chance to beat serena serena was her idol and as we all can recall all a year later the clash that occurred between serena williams and the chair umpire carlos ramos of portugal basically became a story much bigger than tennis <hes> it was about gender it was about race there were divided friends and families and so we decided to go back slow everything down because as you know in in the world today people make judgments instantly hundred forty characters and that's what happened here and we really wanted to slow everything down zapruder film like almost show each of the three code violations that were call by ramos against serena williams see why they happen what happened behind the scenes and then also dig deeply into the aftermath well. You know it's interesting because i know i think we we're speaking when you decided this would be one of the topics for the series and <hes> the other topics they were a little bit <hes> more born or rear view mirror. They weren't quite as recent and there were there. Were some more obvious unknowns with some of the other things we were talking about like like <hes> for instance demand taito situation from almost seven years ago now. How does the serena story with carlos ramos fit into the context of what what the concede is for the series. Well it really is trying to explore the story behind the story and so my goal is reporting as the title back store exactly accolades and the backstory as a backstory point in every back story of any story that you've done in your courage army or that i've done is always more interesting. The story behind the story is always the story that in-depth journalists investigative journalist try to find out you're right that this was only a year old but we began reporting this as israeli as november of last year where we started sitting down with people on camera months after take xactly where it was still fresh in everybody's mind and we felt that there was a lot of ground to cover over you know serena insisted during that matches we can all recall. I don't cheat. This is a matter of character what rama's called on that coaching code violation. She said i never never have gotten coaching so we just wanted to even just on that moment. Look deeply see how often did hear her coach patrick murata glue send coaching signals. I interviewed uh-huh interviewed him for the episode at wimbledon this year. He said it was the first time ever he sent a coaching violation a coaching code coaching a signal to serena and and so just even on that particular moment. I think viewers are going to be very surprised about what we found out. Serena looked right at the box as patrick murata glue sent the signal and we we see in a split screen murata glue nodding as serena's looking as he's sending the signal and at wimbledon. I asked him a very simple question. Why do you not did you feel that actually serena had seen that signal and then we found out exactly why carlos ramos called the code violation didn't speak to him didn't speak with serena but found out with people people around ramos y he called a code violation which has never been reported before and center episode were speaking with dan van don van natta junior about his new series backstory. It's premiering this weekend on a._b._c. It'll be on e._s._p._n. And e._s._p._n. Plus and e._s._p._n.'s app all week long as well <hes> starting doing this week. I should say the first one the first episode of serena versus the armpit and it's interesting because <hes> <hes> sometimes in journalism people don't wanna see how the sausage is made and this isn't necessarily as much journalism story as some of the other things that i know you're focusing on on but when you do that what is it like approaching people to talk about something that has been controversial that they're not necessarily eager to to revisit not easy and particularly on the five topics that we've chosen for the first season. These are topics that a lot of the protagonist don't wanna revisit visit but we're not gonna let let's say manteaux decides not to sit down with us for that particular episode decide whether we're going to do it or not <hes> serena williams as i said didn't sit down with us nor did carlos ramos <hes> but we still feel talking to members of their camps and the reporting. We got that we got a lot of new information. The show's conceit ezekiel jeremy is a journalism journey and it's my journey and it's done differently it rather than regular voice overs. I speak very conversational almost podcast style of what's in my head as i take each step and hopefully they'll be an audience for that that will be interested in sort of the search for truth about a topic that people think think they know but we feel there's a lot more ground to <hes> to to to cover an a lot more information to uncover well. Nobody really cares what i buy. These great idea for a show and i'm really looking forward to to to seeing these five episodes. Although i only know the topics i think of three of them. I'm sure the other two will be great as we know there's serena which is on this weekend end and then there is a joe jackson shoeless joe jackson pete rose show coming as well yes but went. When are we going to see that. That'll be either mid october. No oh no later than early november so in a couple of months and that's the banning of shoeless joe or the hundredth anniversary obviously of the black sox scandal a through line from shoeless joe and the black socks talks to pete rose who was banned thirty years ago for betting on baseball and then even look at legalized gambling now in the embraced by major league baseball currently and whether those two guys jackson and rowe's deserve to be in the hall of fame is obviously one of the questions we'll be exploring during that episode and then there's mankato is well. Yes which we interviewed you for in fact was great. Yes thank you were fantastic. So the first interview for this for this series was shaking his head in disgust the the first interviews with jeremy shop for this search for the series jeremy of course played a major role in the coverage of that got the first interview with tayo and yes and january january twenty thirteen time but the interview with you is great and and <hes> and and so people can look forward to that early twenty twenty that episode we're speaking with don. Van natta junior bet his new series premiering this weekend on a._b._c. One o'clock eastern time backstory. The first i episode is serena versus. The and i know at least some of the inspiration for the series came from a <hes> robert avid used to work on east sixty and the thirty for thirty. He did about his experience covering bob knight and neil read when he was at c._n._n. That i in roberts working on the show robert is the show runner on the show jon dahl one of the co creators of the great thirty for thirty film series is an executive producer right thomson the great writer as an executive producer newsra backstory as well and bluef- entertainment the folks from avon connecticut who are incredible filmmakers. Tim oregon hillary horgan pretty good. They do yeah it's. It's an all star team. It's it's it's been a lot of fun and i'm surrounded by so much talent so it screws up. It's on me. Nobody's gonna blame you don i. We're all looking forward to it. I am <hes> <hes> you know it's interesting with serena we get into this a little bit later in the show and we talked to mary carillo <hes> we recorded her interview before i am now speaking to you and she she talked about how difficult it is sometimes to cover serena <hes> because she is such a presence in the sport and she's meant so much adds to it and there's a very good case of course be made may be convincing case that she is the greatest female player ever but <hes> sometimes any kind kind of criticism of her has been shut down and she is shut <hes> she shut out people who have criticized her. How how fraud has that been <hes> in terms of getting people to talk about her very difficult and <hes> we've had more than one person say to us. You're either a one hundred percent with serena or you're against her so even in in persuading people to sit down and revisit that match there. I think there were making the calculation what what whatever i say. "We haven't is the army out at Komodo right now with signs and stuff has anything happened out there. Yeah. What I did is I told Komodo, hey, I'd bring the army in for a nice night a fun night. And of course, the army's paying your your your word means nothing Billy what's going on with the caddy. We're gonna we're gonna be able to shame this cheap golfer in spanner. Well, after a few after a few calls, we finally got his Email address. So I sent him an Email and Spanish, which was a horrific at best grammatically in Spanish, but he got back to me. And he said that right now he's out on the course. But that he's coming back a little later, but he'd love to do it. So now waiting to see what time works for him. Now, you're gonna have to do this in Spanish dance to God's and Meena. So it'll be good radio. Yes, we'll get. How do you say cheapskate and Spanish? So here is the story. I wanted to get to and sports, and this is something that's been whispered about, but I had not seen it confirmed. And evidently now ESPN has confirmed it the NFL has reached out to Adam silver, evidently to run their league, the NFL has reached out to Adam silver and Adam silver's, quote, I'll just say I have not given it any thought. So he's not he's not denying that. There's been overtures and Don van Natta reported this a couple of years ago that there was an overture from the NFL the silver. But clearly, right if I put them next to each other and tell you, hey, who's the guy you want as your CEO who's the guy just based on what you've seen with happened with the NFL and domestic violence and Roger Goodell tripping over his own feet and Andrew and Adam silver, who's considered a progressive silver? Please. I mean, imagine being Roger Goodell like you have been a human meat shield for these guys you have then you have taken every whipping for them. And then to find out that they've got they've been seeking a mistress behind your back. He must be so angry. I think he's fine at five years two hundred million dollars though. Oh, but it can be both to got. It can be hurt. Your feelings are hurt. You have been someone who is taken does public beating you get paid that money to be a pinata. And now, you're learning probably the Jerry Jones. I mean, we can take some guesses here. Right. Jerry Jones is the most powerful man in the NFL Jerry Jones has very public problems with Roger Goodell. Jerry Jones is innovative Jerry Jones doesn't mind circus. Jerry Jones, you'd have to think would love to overthrow Roger Goodell with Adam silver. No, not from what I know about Jerry Jones sensibilities, and what I know about Adam silver sensibilities that would seem like a weird fit for Jerry Jones. Joan van Dan saying he just wants to get back at Zeke. I don't doubt it. But it's just a hard for me to wrap my mind around Jerry Jones being the one that, hey, let's get the most progressive Commissioner, I understand that it's hard for you to wrap your mind about that. Jerry Jones was willing to fight with Adele, if you told Jerry Jones right now, hey, would you like Dell out his Commissioner his answer would be? Yes. And so you have to find better solutions than Goodell. But I think at the crux of the major issue with the owners and Cadel was he wasn't pushing back enough on what was going on politically in that league. So Adam silver's go, but no, but see Mike, you got it wrong. Adam Adam, silver is a consensus builder. Adam silver, the owners very much know that Adam silver works for them. And every once in a while a racist gets out of line and he takes away their team. But the owners wanted sterling out that wasn't silver the owners wanted sterling gonna love a good counterpoint to even my point is Adam silver has a super progressive league and has a reputation of being super progressive guests. What league doesn't have an issue with players kneeling? That's why he's good at his job. I mean. I be surprised I'm with Mike on this. If Jerry Jones the guy seeking interest of of Adam. Mine in the minds. If you think Adam silver will be a better conditioning NFL, it's not about ideals or principles or what he believes. It's about the fact that this never became a story in the NBA like the NFL owners hate the fact that we talked about this for two years somehow, Adam silver is through a combination of his relationships with the players that played a large role in widened become a story his relationship with the press. Let's be real here. The NBA press Adam silver, much, better relationship than Roger Goodell. Manafort press, he managed to keep us from like making a thing out of that. And if I'm an owner, I'm like, yeah. That the guy who, you know, people from getting angry at us like he's really good at his still gets to be. To be woke even though no one's kneeling. It's incredible. Also from a financial standpoint, I mean since silver took over as Commissioner and five years league revenues have gone from four point eight billion to nine point one billion dollars now that the NFL suffering, but that's a pretty staggering number right there. My father does not know the name of the Commissioner he just had dinner with him one night and calls him to this day the man with the umbrella because he thought it was weird that Adam.

"Casey foundation. From intelligence squared US. I'm John Don van before this particular debate. I sat on stage with Gideon rose editor of foreign affairs. Our partner for this debate on the global financial system and getting an I chatted about this relationship between us and his magazine. Well, we love intelligence squared, and we couldn't think of a better partnership because essentially the best way to think foreign affairs is as the home version of intelligence squared. It's something you can play by yourself or with friends and family. It's easy. You basically take a policy question that you care about right down your answer, read, your copy of foreign affairs. And then check your answer and vote again, that's how you play at home. What we offer an FA is essentially, very smart serious people honestly, trying to provide constructive answers to important and interesting practical questions and have the kind of debate that should be had. In a democracy over important public issues. That's what you do as well. Well, does that suggest that one wants to read foreign affairs with a willingness to change one's mind? All of our authors are smarter than the editorial staff, and they take very different positions on all the major issues. And so it's a constant education for us. And we hope it is for our readers as well. Our job is to translate the smart people in our pages to translate their words, and ideas into ones that everybody can understand it until just a moment on tonight's resolution. We're looking back ten years. Normally we look at the present. We are actually looking at the future. But we're using the ten year old benchmark as our metric in a sense. But why does that topic interest you in particular, well because these days, obviously, not just our domestic and international events related, but security and economics fears are related and a global financial crisis and the turbulence that we saw a decade ago has been an extraordinarily significant factor in weakening, the Liberal International order affecting world politics in various ways, hurting. Lots of people and the question of whether we have responded, successfully, whether we have made the system better is something we've been covering in the pages of foreign affairs. We're delighted to be partners in a debate by really serious people trying to assess whether the measures that have been taken have been enough or.

Dallas sports anchor Dale Hansen blasts Jerry Jones

"Life You guys really cares Deeply insulted if you hit them, with the prices right losing What every NFL team fire their coach for ballot check except the Bengals Eighty eight percent of the audience said yes Are you surprised that? The wire Cam hasn't interfere with, more Ninety one percent of the audience that yes is. Territory going to strong on Pereira out of the expert gig Eighty seven percent it's a great question eighty seven percent of the audience said yes is fifty dollars to, Disney, a single grain of sand from all. The beaches on earth combined eighty five percent of the audience said yes. Let's get to the Dale Hansen sound this is w. f. a. Jerry Jones is now not, doing interviews anymore the NFL. Has asked him to not do interviews anymore on the anthem issue and Dale Hansen an old timing cowboy reported this guy is a public critic and Don van Natta. Is telling you that no thorn in Jerry Jones's side feels quite like this one in the Dallas Cowboys. Owner Jerry Jones had been talking this week about getting this football team ready to play in another Super. Bowl it has been twenty two years since they. Have and only three playoff wins in those twenty two years but Jones. Talks about that almost every year anyway and he has been talking too much this week about all the problem the NFL is still having off the field Jones to this Stephen were saying the other. Day that any player who takes Sydney and doesn't toe the line during the national anthem won't, be playing for the Dallas. Cowboys anymore it's incredible to me that a player can beat up a woman and play for the Dallas Cowboys a player can use illegal drugs time and time again. And still play but you take it need to protest the racial injustice in America and now you've crossed. The line that he will not allow Jones loves and respects the national anthem so much the when it. Was being played before the start of practice Saturday. He left his cap on and when he was told about the mistake. He was making he still left this capital He who makes the rules apparently, doesn't have to..
