"don league record" Discussed on Hockey Today

"The. Is that game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Wednesday dish of game is conduct. I am Don McGregor. Well, it looks like it's over in the east. It's happened before teams have come back from three nothing data's maverick. Justin Williams on two of the teams that have done it of the four National Hockey League history with the flyers in two thousand ten and of course with the Los Angeles Kings in two thousand fourteen but Carolina down three games to none. And you go back to going into the third period of game one when Carolina had the lead they got the penalty trouble. They couldn't figure it out lost that game completely outplayed in game two and they just couldn't find a way to get the, the gave up a couple of quick goals in the second period. Curtis mcelhinney was the goal tender. I don't think it really made that much of a difference I thought he played, okay. But the fact remains is he was completely outperformed by to harass Rask has been the underrated player in these playoffs. Right. We've talked so much about Bob Ross ski. Did in Columbus and the morale and mcelhinney combination Carolina. And of course, Robin Leonard was able to do in the first round with the islanders and Jones in San Jose. I mean, the list goes on and on with the performance Bennington in Saint Louis and not a lot of conversation about what to harass has been able to accomplish. He's been unbelievable. A nine forty four save percentage so far in the series didn't give up the greatest goal against the Han. But I thought the turning point for me in this game was a power play early right out of the box for Carolina, peppered rask's, which shots opportunity after opportunity, could not get that first goal. And how big would that first goal been the building would have been up for grabs gift Boston on their heels a little bit Carolina? Couldn't do it. They get the goal to make it a one to nothing which was huge for them. And then they get the go ahead goal. The insurance goal that they were looking for to make it to nothing. Brad Marchand hate him if you want, but he's still a great player makes it to nothing quickly to Hans go. Scores. His first as I said count counter soft goal by Rask. So maybe thought Carolina would still have some jump and it didn't happen and ended up losing the game. And I think inevitably a losing the series now just a question of when it's going to be done, Wagner blocks shot. We don't know if he's going to be back at all. When you talk after the game, Bruce, Cassidy didn't seem that Wagner had a really good prognosis. He wouldn't give any details, but I don't think be back for the rest of the series. We'll see what happens in the final. The other controversy was a goal tender interference. That took a goal away from Boston would have made it three one didn't matter. Anyway Boston won the game. But I thought it was the right call. I thought Debrosse could have gotten out of the way I think, depressed did of Beck. Mcelhinney is ability to see it. I thought the contact initiated wall mcelhinney was in the blue. I know a lot of people get upset about it. I understand. It's inconsistent. That's why we should not review judgment calls because it's always going to be in the eye of the beholder. But when I saw it live when I saw it on replay, I didn't have. Problem with it. But again Boston can't complain. Too much ended up holding on and winning the game to garage. I think has an excellent opportunity here to be the cons. My trophy winner of Boston goes on to win the Stanley Cup. He has been special member. He was on that team in in twenty two thousand nine that lost to Carolina although he didn't play. He was on the team in twenty eleven when they wanna Stanley Cup. But again that was Tim Thomas Stanley Cup not to harass Stanley Cup. So maybe this will be finally his do this will be his time..

"Game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Thursday edition of game is conduct down the Greco play. Everybody's doing. Well. It's recap last night preview. It's going to be a big night in the National Hockey League. Tonight. The biggest most rela game. I thought last night was the avalanche win over the biggest goal the night's four to three Vegas had been hot. The avalanche needing the game break that tie with the coyotes for that last playoff spot. They jumped out to the three nothing lead Calvert. Mckinnon berry Tyson Barrie so underrated for the avalanche. Make three nothing Vegas. Made a close STAN Smith tallies and Smith has been hot for Vegas them Bork. It's the goal to kind of widen the gap a little bit. Tuck makes it close to get his twentieth of the year that was late and then really buzzed did Vegas towards the end of the game. Trying to get that equaliser give credit they they can I guess catch San Jose the way the sharks have been playing, but they're pretty much locked into acting that three seed in the Pacific Division, but they understand the relevance of trying to play well here down the stretch of the season and the avalanche. They've got number one goal. Tender now grew Bauer who they acquired from Washington during the off season. I think he's gonna start in the playoffs of the avalanche. Make it so things tightening up just a bit Dallas with their win over the flames two one and in this one it was Dallas jumping out to the to nothing lead as they got the job done with goals by Radulovich twenty-fifth was gorgeous goal late in the first period. And then they held on for the two one win Brody scored late with less than two minutes to play. So that means the flames scored just one goal in their last two games at home. But they got shut out by the king's Campbell stood on his head. So here's the way things look in the Western Conference we enter play tonight with that loss. The flames blow a chance to widen. Their lead on San Jose, two straight losses now for Calgary's. We mentioned so they got one oh one and San Jose's got a game in hand six points bag. San jose's. Gotta get their ship righted. They've really been struggling has laid they're gonna take on Chicago team that's going to be absolutely desperate. And that'll be coming up later on tonight. So a chance for San Jose. Hey with their game in hand, the draw within four points Vegas with ninety points. But they played one more game than San Jose. So as I said golden is pretty much having locked in. But real what everybody's concern about the avalanche. They've got eighty three points. That's two points. More than Arizona who also played seventy seven games Dallas with their win seventy seven games played with eighty six points. So that's you're looking at those three teams for two spots. Minnesota still alive with seventy nine points. They play the same out of games. But there are now four points back. They do have the thirty four row winds which matched the avalanche..

"The. Is that game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Thursday. They should have gained misconduct. IM Dhamma Greco. We got lots to get into. We usually preview the games that are coming up a little later on to the podcast. But the big story today, certainly for people that are islander fans live the New York area understand what tonight means the Coliseum. The play host to believe not only is an important game for the algae trying to hold onto first place in the metropolitan division, which they do in virtue of the fact that he played to less games than Washington. Islanders in the capitals of both played seventy nine games. Both teams have thirty three row. Winds by the big difference. Is that the elders have two games in hand? But they gotta start winning some games here. They've struggled as of late dropping three of their last four games. Just coming off a loss to the flames of the Coliseum. But certainly the big stories Gionta Berra's playing in Long Island for the first time since the decision to go to Toronto. And there will be a video tribute for him at the first stoppage of play under fourteen minutes left in the game in the first. Period, which obviously is the first commercial break, and that's obvious that that's going to happen. Every organization does it for lesser guys. Of course, you're going to do for John Taveras who established his hall of fame career playing nine amazing seasons with the New York Islanders and the only team to make it to the second round was when John was there back in two thousand sixteen since nineteen Ninety-three. But obviously, I understand as being someone that covers the sport and his passionate about the sport. But my roots around the sport is from being a fan. So I understand the fan's perspective. You felt like a jilted lover when he made the decision to go to Toronto for sure. And I'm not telling you to be happy about it. I'm not telling you not to be mad about it. You should be urine islander fan you've gone through a lot of in recent seasons. The feeling was when you have to Tonto John Taveras. You finally had that special player. There was going to play his whole career here have as number ninety one retired legitimate danley cups and that didn't happen because of free agency. And the fact that he ended up in Toronto. And it worked you that? He waited. As long as he did to make the decision. So I'm not going to sit here and tell you not to I'm not going to sit here and tell you not to be disappointed, and I'm not gonna sit here and tell you you should be happy about what happened. But I don't really like the narrative of John Taveras being a bad guy. Not do I know John personally as your friend of mine. No. But I've got a little bit. He's a great guy. He really is. He's not a bad guy. And believe me when you look at what bands root for nowadays. And the way we're forced to hold our nose rooting for players that are on our team, we know her bad guys. But we do it because they can help our team win. It's a little disconcerting when you do that. But then when a really good guy makes a decision that you don't like, and you're gonna make them up to be some sort of a villain and hate his guts be mad about the situation. But to hate him. I think is a little bit too far and put yourself in his shoes. Okay. Because the narrative seems to be that if he wanted to go to Toronto fine. I oughta fans can live with that. He wants to go back home. But he should've said something to Garth snow. Oh before the trading deadline last year. So that they could've traded him away to get something in return..

"don league record" Discussed on Hockey Today

"The. Is that game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Wednesday. They should have game as conduct. I'm down the Greco. Thanks for the day off yesterday had some things going on. But there's still lots to discuss and talk about the last night's games. But of course, the big story of the Saint Louis blues blues have gone from last place. Now, not just a playoff team. But a team that now can find themselves maybe getting home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They win in overtime. Over the Toronto Maple Leafs last night three to franchise record twelve consecutive win. They had won eleven straight or excuse me eleven th straight win. They had one ten in a row in two thousand one two thousand two so a franchise record eleven consecutive wins. And now they're in third place in the central division. They're just six points back of Nashville, but with three games in hand on the predators. So the blues it's really a tremendous story. They had a shutout streak of two hundred thirty three minutes and fifty seconds snapped in the third period when Toronto score two goals and thirty one seconds to tie it. But they win the game at overtime. Saint Louis Tarasenko is now showing up the Bennington story between the pipes has been great. But even Allen has played well when he has gotten his chance to play shutting out Minnesota over the weekend. Shannon's played, well, there's just so many players right now that have stepped up for the Saint Louis blues. It is quite the story and this winning streak just keeps going now. They're a playoff team in in a wide open Western Conference, why not Saint Louis? I mean, the team has never been to a Stanley Cup final since their expansion runs back when they first came into the league going to the Stanley Cup final in in sixty eight sixty nine and seventy now they've got a chance to maybe do it in what I think is a wide open Western Conference. Do I think they're Nashville? Do I think they're Winnipeg? Maybe if they continue to play the way, they're playing me. And why not I I think the sky's the limit for this team. And it really just gives a lot of faith. I think two teams out there that are on the outside. Looking like if you're Florida if. You're the Rangers. If you're Philadelphia and you look at yourself and your your nine ten eleven points out of a playoff spot, and you think are the season's over. But hey, got twenty three twenty four games left. Maybe you rattle off eleven straight wins. And find yourself the next thing Louis Blues. I mean that that's the kind of faith that you have especially in the Western Conference where you can make some big time moves so right now, if you're Anaheim if you're Edmonton, and you're kind of sinking a little bit. But maybe you find a groove certainly some of those teams have talent certainly are in a position that Saint Louis was any rattle off six seven eight nine ten wins in a row next thing. You know, you can find yourself with a playoff so you can have faith. And of course, we're getting closer to the deadline. Looks like Duchenne is going to go looks like penins gonna go very interesting situation. Montreal last night, which on Twitter, rela Canadians the three two win over the blue jackets, obviously hurting Carolina's chances of trying to win that division. Catch. The islanders released got home ice by finishing in second the metropolitan division and Panara scratch because he's. Hill. So everybody speculates the penins gonna get traded..

"The. Is that game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Wednesday dishes of game has conduct. I'm Don the Greco. Hopefully, everybody is having a phenomenal day. And I four most I want to thank everybody on Twitter and elsewhere, the nice enough to send me my birthday. Which is I'm fifty one years old today. I look about one hundred and seven, but I feel like I'm twelve so we're going to go with the the younger version of of me for this foreseeable future. But thank you so much for giving me a time of day was really cool all the messages and all the wishes from all the hockey people around North America's really appreciate it. And let's get on with the show. I had mentioned that I thought it was going to be a one game suspension for Yevgeny, Malcolm. And it turned out to be what the NHL decided. And I know there's some flyer fans and some people that hate Pittsburgh to think he deserved more. He was irresponsible the stick. There's no question about that. But there was no harm. No foul on the play. He gets the one game. I thought that was the way that it was going to be he needs to be more responsible. And let's face it. To. All right. Don't sneeze at a one game suspension. Pittsburgh is doing everything they can to hold off Carolina and buffalo for that. Last playoff spot. They desperately want to get in the top three of the division. So they're going to having to play Tampa. If indeed they do make the playoffs. So let's be honest. I mean, one game losing a significant player like that you can't ignore it. So we'll keep an eye on how Pittsburgh fares without getting Alkan. And I think it was the right move getting the one game suspension. So let's go over the games from last night. There were a ton of games to talk about and discuss. And of course, let's start with that huge win for the Columbus, blue jackets, and this is a team that the entire focus seems to be about what's going to happen with Pinero him abroad ski. And I like the fact that Cam Atkinson came out and said that he believes in this team. And if the powers that be in Columbus believe in the team, then you have to hold onto Abroskin Pierre. Now, he wasn't tested really last night based only nineteen shots only seven. Capital shots in the first forty minutes. But this team has never been out of the first round this team has to feel like if they can finish in second place in the division. Heck, they can probably even win the division mean who knows you take a look at the standings right now as we enter play on February thirteenth of the Columbus. Blue jackets are two points. Back a Washington for second place with two games in hand. They're five points back of the honors for first place with a game in hand. I mean this team can win the division. And if they win that division they avoid having to take on Tampa. They can get home ice advantage something that they really would relish having never having been out of the first round before. So I know you can have Panara number rob ski walk for nothing. But maybe you can rally around the case of we're gonna lose them for nothing. But while we have them we're going to drain every possible point and every possible moving forward that we can't. But as organization and try to win over a fan base rally round because I'm telling you I've been the Columbus done a ton of games there. It's a great city. It's an under. Rated hockey city. It's a tremendous arena great facilities around the arena. They've really done a great job. And just like what happened when Nashville in twenty seventeen of Columbus can make a run exposed the hockey world to what Columbus is all about yet Panara number Brodsky walk at the end of the year, and that would suck. But you know, what if this team can make a run that will have a tremendous amount of value. It could become a destination for free agents. All right. John Todarello's won a Cup of four. So I see value in that. If I'm a team like Chicago, I've won three cups in in less than a decade..

"don league record" Discussed on Hockey Today

"The. Is that game misconduct podcast with Don. League-record at welcome to the Wednesday should of game is conduct. I am Don league-record just three games to go over. But a couple of my thought were pretty intriguing jets with a four three win in Boston over the Bruins as it was the Kyle Connor show. The gotta done for the Winnipeg Jets for twice in regulation. Got the only goal in the shootout as Bergereon got a late goal for Boston tied at three after he scored early in the game to give Boston to one to nothing lead. Boston does get the point at home. But Winnipeg bounces back after a tough loss in Philly that I before to pick up the win so Connor scores twice and thirty four seconds gets the decisive goal in the only goal really in shootout. As Winnipeg wins that game is they are starting to show. Even though they've been a little sluggish over the last. Couple of weeks that they are still the team to beat in the central division and Boston needs to mind their Ps and qs as well. They had that loss. If you remember to the Rangers at home, they end up losing to Winnipeg at home. So a couple of home losses for Boston. They've not dropped to the wildcard they did pick up their sixtieth point. But they played fifty games. So they're the first wildcard Pittsburgh's the second wildcard, Pittsburgh's two points back. But with a game in hand. Now Boston is right there. Just the point back a Montreal for third with a game in hand. So things are very very tight. So you want to try to get those points when you can and Boston did get that goal with a little less than eight minutes or nine minutes to play in regulation to get back into the game tied at three and earned the point. But they did lose that point in overtime or shootout. The could come back haunt them. Something to kind of keep an eye on because this Eastern Conference us tightening up in buffalo, certainly crawled back into this one as they ended up blowing a four two lead in Columbus. Against the blue jackets, but they win the game which was important for them five to four because they're going to need everyone. They can get here down the stretch. Because even though they're very close to a plow spot. They really can't afford to let games and leads like they did slip through their fingers even against a pretty good Columbus blue jackets team, Jeff Skinner scores again for the sabres is thirty first goal of the season. And then Connor Sheree, which is a nice underrated pickup by the sabres from Pittsburgh scores early in the third period is eighth of the year. The snap time get the buffalo. Sabres the win so savers play again tonight against Dallas. So they've got a chance to make up some ground here. But there's really not a lot of teams on the outside with a chance to make the playoffs. Carolina barely holding on right now four points back a Pittsburgh for that wildcard spot. But buffalo picks with a win two points back of Pittsburgh. They both played forty nine games. Pittsburgh does have more wins forty twenty. Eighty six to twenty five and the row wins are clearly in favour of Pittsburgh,.

"That game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Tuesday edition of game is conduct. I am the Greg. Let's get right to it. Major trade the NHL last night Muhsin goes from Los Angeles to the Maple Leafs. And we've talked about it plenty of times drop the wants to make a serious run at a Stanley Cup. They had to improve their defense more. Specifically, a stay at home defenceman. We'll Muslim comes in. It's got twenty one points on the season. He's not slouches far as offenses concern, you know, play on top pairing with Riley. So there's a lot of production that that defensive units gonna give you, but they've gotta find somebody outside of Ron Hansie who's thirty seven years old that could be a guy that could stand up forwards at the blue line that can go after the best forward on the other team, matchup wise. I mean, they were gonna lose every match of Toronto in the playoffs. It gets really good team because they didn't have anybody to go up against you know, the top line for Boston team. They're likely going to play in the first round. How do you stop Sidney Crosby of getting Malik? And how do you stop Alexander Ovechkin and nNcholas Backstrom? How do you stop stamkos and kucherov? If you wanna make run to the Stanley Cup final. So I'm not saying that Muhsin cures all ills. But it makes a lot of sense now first round pick and some prospects. That's pretty juicy but Muslims under contract through next year. It's a management deal as far as the cap is concerned a four point six million dollars. And I'm sure the Toronto will consider after the nineteen twenty season. Whether they want to bring. Him back. We'll see where the calorie salary cap structure is going to be and what ends up happening with some of their free agents. But it's not like, it's a rental. You have them for a run this year and next year and may have the wherewithal to keep him around Muslim. Of course was part of to Stanley Cup championships with the Los Angeles Kings. So he's been there. He's done that. These are the types of moves teams have to make now on the surface. When you think about defense been that I want to make a run I'm not sure Jake Muhsin was on like the top list of fans out there who said that's going to be the difference between winning Stanley Cup or not. But certainly he had been on the radar of many general managers around the league Toronto makes the move. And now they've improved themselves with the acquisition of Taveras during the off season which bolstered their offense big time and has allowed them to fight through some of the injuries. They've had with Matthews with the holdout of Neil Lander. And now they get themselves study defenseman the acquisition of Hanes. He was also a good one last year. So you sprinkle in the offense with sites with Riley with Gardner, and now you've got. To stay at home guys. But Muslim as I said could produce some offense in any given year this guy that can give you forty fifty points on on Toronto. This is a guy that can be a stay at home defenseman that could score north of fifty points on this team. So I think the acquisition was good. We've seen in recent years that the trade deadline is just a mere suggestion that it seems like a lot of deals get done way before the deadline. So even before we get into February. We're seeing these deals get done so slightly under a month before the deadline Toronto, they sound the bell. I and now we'll see who else. Decides to follow will Boston trying to make a move now to try to keep up with Toronto to try to get that home ice advantage in the first round who else in the Eastern Conference is gonna make a deal. What's Pittsburgh going to do another loss for the penguins last night? They cannot beat the devils on a bet six Owen one New Jersey against Pittsburgh over the last couple of years, including all three meetings this year being devil wins. So just it's crazy that the devils a team. That listen last year. I guess it makes sense because they were a playoff team. But the doubles do not look like a playoff team this year and still own a playoff team. But this Pittsburgh think about making move to solidify a plow spot. What is Washington do as they seem to be in free fall?.

"That game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Prodi initiative games conduct. I am down the Graca and very special game conduct. Kevin weeks is nice. Join us from the NHL network. And of course, he's going to be all over the NHL networks extensive all star weekend coverage in San Jose, including live shows before and after tonight skills competition, of course, tomorrow all star game weeks Donald recommend. Our you. Great. Donnie, what's up, man? How you doing? This is like twice in two weeks. This is weird. Guard him off. I know it was really cool. We'll get into the all star game in just a little bit. Because it's on the three on three is clearly worked tournaments fantastic. And it's a little disappointing that veterans not going to be there, and you know, Taylor halls hurt. But still I think we can overcome it. But let's take advantage. Having you on here to talk about the first half of the season and some of the ups and downs and surly. Let's look at the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals. And they seem to get over a little bit of a lull early in the season. Now, they seem to be back to it here. How legitimately concerned should the DC fans be about the caps right now. I mean, I think the biggest part is it's a team that hasn't had very much rest, which is always the case when you get to Stanley Cup final especially when you win it. But there's no excuse I mean at a chance to talk to try greater their head coach yesterday had a good conversation with him and around table with all the all star coaches that we hosted it will be on the air tomorrow before all star game on the NHL network. Will I think the biggest thing for for the caps? As I say is they understand the recipe is, and when you understand the recipe, it's pretty tough to bake the cake, if you don't put the essential ingredients in there. So you know, that's kind of what it is. For the cats in this stretch law seven straight they've kind of gone away from defending the same way that we're managing the puck the same way they do playing in the offensive zone for extended off ozone offensive zone possessions, by cycling, the puck things of that nature, which are you know, essential to their success. And we're a big part of winning the Stanley Cup last year. So you have to kind of play by that recipe that works for you. And that you given us success the caps of deviated from that. So I think the thing for them is get the break at the rest number one, which they need physically. And and I think from a mental standpoint and then come back for you charge and ready to go and get back to doing those things that that make them successful. I think that's the biggest thing for them back in the day when we were growing up twenty one team league, you can go through the Malays and still find a way to get into the playoffs. But they need to be a little. Careful here if you don't turn it around you fall to the wildcard or maybe four completely out of it. I mean, they got a six point lead on buffalo for that for for the playoffs. But you know, another bad week or a really good week for the sabres. This could be a team. That's just battling to get in. Yeah. That's what it is..

"The lease. Is that game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Wednesday. They should have game. It's conduct. I'm Don league-record, and who was floating around the studio that I wanted to put on former great goaltender for the out. Now, you can hear them on Humpty Canty and Rothenberg a ninety eight seventy SPN New York between the hours of ten and one is Ricky Piatra. What's up man was gone Donny you're hanging around 'cause you're founder went to go see frozen. I just liked the just hang around for that. I was hanging on to be on this podcast. They go ask listen, I gotta take advantage islanders. They said by the wildcard were in third place in the metro feeling good big win last night. You gotta love it. Because Saint Louis is starting to play better under Craig Baru be and they started winning some games surprises to people. They beat the capitals the other night capital's kind of lose a couple of tough games here. One thing lose to Nashville, but to lose to Saint Louis that was a little disturbing. But I wanted to throw it out. And I throw it out on Twitter earlier this morning. You know, one recap the games pre the games coming up tonight. But I I want I wanted to ask everyone the question, and I'll ask you who's got the best chance to be Tampa. Because it's been a long time. Rick since we've seen a team this much better than everybody else. I think I saw the stat that when they had a twelve point lead on Toronto in like December. That was like the earliest team had that kind of a lead since the original six era. I mean, this is no joke. Now, I'm not guaranteeing any kind of win. But whose beat them who's beat him in the east? I think the team that you would point to in the east is maybe Washington, right? Because I mean, they've they've been able to do it. I just think with Tampa. And if that team stays healthy as deep as they are as. Counted as they are. I mean, the the additions that they made last year at the deadline. I mean, it's funny how mcdonagh here. He's your captain, you decide to par ways. And all of a sudden now he's in Tampa surrounded by that much talent. And now he's in the conversation for the north twenty talent does. But I mean as far as top the bottom, I love as less. I think it was a blessing in disguise actually that he missed some time because last season the they played them too much. And you know, I think the teams that I would point would probably be in the east the Washington team. And then as far as the west, I really like national I really like Winnipeg. Albery? I dunno Calgary yet. I mean, I'm not sold on their on their goaltending situation. I'm not I mean, I think listen the fact that I was in locker rooms with Keith kachuck watching this little kids run around play mini sticks. And now they're doing what they're doing in the NHL. I know right. It's amazing to me. But I just think when you look at a team like nationally look at a team like Winnipeg, and you see what they're capable of doing. They have the talent they have the grid. You know, when they've done a, you know, this you watched enough hockey that when you hit the playoffs and you start adding that element game slows down a little bit element the size the physicality those. I mean, those are two teams I listen I thought Winnipeg last year was geared up and ready to to get to the Stanley Cup finals. And they got they ran into Vegas Vegas. And I think also hurt them that they had such a difficult opponent second round in Nashville because of the stupid convoluted where the NHL does their playoff system. They can have two teams that good plane in the second round. And then Vegas. I had an easier path and credit to them, but they only just ran through everybody. With Los Angeles, and San Jose and Winnipeg had to go at it with against what I thought at the time is the best team in the NHL beat them..

"The. Is that game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and walk into the Friday edition of game is conduct. I'm down the Greco. This will also be our last addition of twenty eighteen Christmas is coming the holidays. And of course, new years, and I'm going to be off and not back to work until January second. So this will be our last podcast until January second one a lot to do a lot of games. Go over even though the show will take the hiatus from twenty four twenty fifth and twenty sixth. Although be no games that we know transactions. But will you will have a winter classic at Notre Dame to go over and all that. And so we will usher in the twenty nineteen portion of the calendar coming up in just a couple of weeks, and we'll be back then. So let's take advantage of the time. We have left here in two thousand eighteen let's go over the games from last night. And also hear from you Bruins with a victory over the ducks three two one pasternack added again with a goal and two assists as Boston kinda just hovering. Right. Yeah. That I talked about like the Leafs of a lightning in their own division. But you know, there are a playoff team. You know, they're going to get healthy. And they can still be a very dangerous team in a thorn in a lot of Atlantic Division teams sides, and even the metropolitan division is well not enough people are talking about him. And you know, what Boston probably likes that Leafs crushed the Panthers six to one where do you begin with lifetime? I'm so excited to see them live tomorrow. I'm going to call calling the game between the Rangers and the leaves. Austin Matthews gets goals number eighteen and nineteen in this guy. Missed what a month of the season, and he's gonna still finish with possibly forty. Plus if not fifty goals, it's been unbelievable with this kid has been able to accomplish as a four point night. Two goals, two assists to various has two goals. Mourner has a goal into assist for three points. I mean this team just keeps coming at you in at you at you in the goaltending has been bad either. So the Panthers kind of lost here being now under NHL five hundred. But you know, what Toronto starting to figure it out at home. Very very good team. Let's tip our cap to the flyers as it looks like Carter hearts. Call up was a good one. He's two and to start his NHL career. And all he did was beat the predators to to wanna know Nashville hurt. There's no Arvidsson. There's no Forsberg. There's no PK sue bam. But that's still a team. That's won twenty two games there. Ten games over NHL five hundred and the flyers now just a game under five hundred with that to two one victory over the predators was also Scott Hartnell nights and graduations to him. And he was always my go-to guy. A couple of quick stories about him whenever I'd be in Columbus. And I needed interview. He'd always be nice enough to talk to me that I record the interview in the pre game show, and he had the shock of red hair. And he was easy to spot and over at NHL lie. Live our studios were right there in the city right on sixth avenue and forty seventh street right of the NHL offices at the time, and sometimes to be a lot of players walk it around there, especially ones that would have to go to the league for a hearing. And they just happened to be there. They'd walk past the NHL store. Something kind of millions Keller center is right around the corner and EJ, and I are doing NHL alive in EJ peeks out. And he sees Scott Hartnell walk down the street, and we were in commercial break, and he was able to run outside grab and put him on the air for a couple of minutes. So he's always been a good guy. So I'm glad you guys do from the flyers and their fans penguins beat the wild by the final tally of two to one..

"Game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Tuesday edition of game is conduct. I am Dom Greco. Let's jump right into it. With this Tuesday edition going over the games from last night. Give the ducks a lot of credit, and I've talked about this numerous amounts of times that I just didn't think the ducks were a playoff team. They were getting old and all the wrong spots begin what great job have them last night. They spot Pittsburgh to nothing lead. Malcolm and rusty goals in the first period and then four unanswered goals for the ducks in the four two victory, including Adam Henrique, seventh Ryan gets off put the finishing touches the goal late in the empty net for his ninth kasha gets his ninth of the year. Sherwood his fourth and they're getting quality goaltending which has been terrific. John. Gibson was really good in the game last night as he ended up facing thirty shots from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Making twenty eight saves ducks dominated the faceoff dot winning nearly sixty percent of the face off. So the ducks are in a wide open Pacific. Vision they really are. And they've got some nice players cog Liano didn't score last night. But it's been good Henriques been solid for them Kessler. Still there gets law for me. We talk about them being an old team. But you know, what they figured out the contract with Richie. They're getting quality defensive play menteur is growing into a star. Played nearly twenty four minutes last night. Manson's been good played nearly twenty five minutes last night. Lynn home was a nice addition for them as well. So I don't think the ducks are a Stanley Cup champion by any stretch of the imagination could be wrong. But in a division where you've got Vegas playing better. Although they got blank last nine Columbus one to nothing where again, they can't get a win from Alkan sue ban. So it consistently stays the same. Now that there's only two goaltenders in the NHL that have all of their teams wins Marc Andre Fleury in Vegas and Keith Kincaid in New Jersey. But with San Jose still trying to figure out there where they have won four in a row, but still have not looked like the dominant team. We thought why not the ducks? In the Pacific Division. And I think there's enough leadership there that if they got into the playoffs who knows what kind of run they can make we mentioned a blue jackets victory. A one to nothing. The only goal score was Nick Felino getting his eighth of the season Vegas play in the second back to backs they muster twenty eight shots on goal. Got killed on the face off dot losing sixty three percent of the draws. So possession was clearly a problem for them. And as I mentioned now consumer ban can't get the job done but Sergei Borowski twenty eight or twenty eight and save departments that wide open metropolitan division. The battle just continues who is eventually going to win it. We'll talk about that in just a second. But again Panin Bobrovsky what do they do? But if this is still a team that in the Columbus blue jackets that that can win a division title take on a wildcard team in the first round having never been out of the first round in franchise history. I think it would behoove not to trade those two players and see if he could make some sort of run. I don't think the blue jackets or staying. Like a champion team. But I think the fans in Columbus deserve Iran, and I'm telling you I've been in that arena a been around that community. They're starving for a team. That's good. And I would want to deprive them of a team that who knows in this Eastern Conference making it to the second round. Maybe finding your way into the conference final. I think that would have value for the blue jackets that have never been out of the first round before. I think the there's certain value. Now, there's a risk. He make the playoffs. Get beaten the first round, and then Pinera and Brodsky walk and you get nothing for them. I get that. And I'd put out feelers and see what you're going to get..

"The really looking forward to I think that's going to be a fun game. And that game will start at seven thirty Canadians in the hurricanes two to seven o'clock games coyotes in the sabre sabres kind of given back a lot after that ten game winning streak but still in third place any the division kings in the blue jackets. I don't want to call this a must win but the blue jackets coughed one up against Vancouver. You've got the kings coming in one of the worst teams in the NHL. Gotta get two points, and that wide open metropolitan division conducts in the predators predators. Another one of those teams that seem to be better on the road than at home Panthers. And the wild wild starting to play well Panthers. I think there's legitimate concern. They miss tro. Check desperately. I think they're blue line can be had their goaltending hasn't been what it should be. Whether it's rhymer whether. It's longo. I talked to Steve Goldstein when I did that game on Saturday. He's the television voice of the Panthers. That believed the Longo just kind of getting caught back up after all the injuries. But still is every bit the goaltender that he's been because his goal. His save percentage is around the same. What it's been for his career. But just watching him and I've called two games with the Rangers in the Panthers. I work at live all three of them Lewan goes just not the same goaltender. He's not. He's going to be forty years old, and he looks at and with tro check being Atta lineup. They're relying a lot on bark off right now to supply them offense. And certainly this team can score goals, but they give up far too many. They're not getting the goal tending. I think everybody including myself that thought the Panthers play off team. It's not looking that way. They could rattle off a bunch of wins. But you're sitting under five hundred in a division. That is very top heavy, which means you're gonna probably be competing for a wild card, and it's going to be very difficult for the Panthers to do orders in the jets. This one's a great one is. Well, I'm glad there's a thirty minute separation between the. The lightning and the Leafs and the Oilers and the jet. So I can see the conclusion of both these games Edmonton. One of the hottest teams in the NHL just four points out of the best record in the Western Conference. And we know how good the jets are ten games over NHL five hundred sharks. Trying to take advantage of the stars playing back to back nights that game is in San Jose. We'll see where the sharks can do. So let's hear from you at Don league-record hashtag game conduct. And let's go to forever t h I w says, hey, Don, I know I'm late to the combo, but what about three point regulation win two point overtime. Shootout win one point shootout loss. No points. Regulation overtime loss thoughts while we've talked about this so much is that again, we were grading losses right now into the current system where if you lose in the shootout or overtime. As opposed to, you know, whether you lose regulation, and you're kinda grading winds. Anyway, you're going to be grading winds even more by the three points. And I bring this up all the time to is it fair that you just are admitting that it's more important or it has more value to win in the first sixty minutes the game than win in overtime. And I'll give the example last night. You've got the worst team in the NHL. The Chicago Blackhawks and they are riding an eight game losing streak, and they beat Pittsburgh. So that's that's obviously three points because they did it in regulation. Would it have less value? If they had beaten, Pittsburgh in overtime, still a bad team still going up against another team that much better than they are. Is it fair to say that it doesn't have the same value? I bring up the same examples. Lightning of best team in the NHL Chicago's the worst. So if Tampa plays host to Chicago in wins and regulation gets three points should that have more value than if Chicago ghost Tampa and wins that game and overtime. It's it's and when we when we did the math forever t h it doesn't look like it, really. It's changing the amount of points teams have. But it still seems like everybody's pretty much slotted in the same place. Anyway. So I'm I'm for more conversation on it..

"King misconduct podcast with Don. League-record and welcome to the Thursday edition of game has conduct. I am Don McGregor. Thank you for a long me the day off yesterday. But there was a lot going on. But we're back today. We back again tomorrow for the top five of the week and all that just three games last night. Really not a lot of interesting contests outside of the Oilers in the blues knights come from behind victory for the Edmonton Oilers. They were down really dominated in this one. Cam Talbot did everything he could to keep Edmonton in this game. When Saint Louis really put the pressure on and shoot me when Saint Louis, but the pressure on the blues had the to nothing lead. After one Nugent Hopkins makes it to one early in the second period cleft bomb ties it with less than a minute to play in regulation, and then they would go to the shootout. And that would do it for the Saint Louis blues, the Oilers pickup the extra point as both Ryan nugent-hopkins and Connor mcdavid score in the shootout. So things are looking good. Since Ken Hitchcock is take it over. We'll see if there's enough time. Time for the Oilers to kind of gain some traction than our two games above NHL five hundred at fourteen twelve and Tuesday. They get the three two win ducks doubled up. The Blackhawks four two in the sharks for the five to one win over the Carolina Hurricanes Pavane sqi continues to have an MVP type season. He kinda just wonder where this San Jose Sharks team would be without them because they've been kind of average in taking advantage. I think of a lacklustre division in the Pacific and he's got eighteen goals. Thornton's also played very well. And he came away with the three assists performance last night. So as the aging veteran now continues to get healthy, it's been a nice combination for of the Saint Louis blues the play of scoring goals and Joe Thornton assisting hunt..

"The police. Is that game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Tuesday edition of game conduct. I am down the Greco. Hopefully, everybody is doing well. And nobody you'll better than our guest. EJ Radic not just because he does NHL live on the NFL network between the hours of four and six eastern Monday through Friday, but got to be in Toronto, which is a great city for the Hockey Hall of fame. How was the buddy? It was awesome. I was my second year in Rome. And I got I got to go. They sent me up due to do some red-carpeted new views on for a lot of the luminaries that were going to attend the Hockey Hall of fame induction ceremony. We don't get the inductees themselves. They are kind of kept behind the wall sort of speak, but get to speak for a lot of different players coaches managers that have had connection with those individuals of, you know, Scott neater Meyer, Kenny data, coz, Scott, Steven John. Cooper, Brad Richards. Larry Robinson that's off the top of my head. I mean, there was several others that I got to speak to. So it was awesome. It was great. He Larry on off. I mean, it was awesome. It was great. And it's a fun night and a wonderful night for those people were going in. It's something that obviously you don't dream about. When you're kidding rolling up. You read about maybe making your particular league that you're in we wanna play in or maybe winning a championship. Nobody really dreams that day when they go in the hall of fame, right? And it's it's kinda crazy, but awesome to be there. And really going kind of grateful and blessed to have been there myself and watching it, and it was awesome. We talked about Gary last week and and being inducted into the hall. William Henry if you don't know the stories phenomenal breaking the color barrier in the National Hockey League. And just a great great ambassador for the sport. EJ? We had a chance to talk to him on HBO live all the time food fly in San Diego. The criss cross. The country. He's got to be well into his eighties now and just tremendous person. What a great honor for him to finally get recognized long long long overdue and really the road for Willie. And I mean, it's like I said, that's all I can really say guy. Wait person and has really reached when you think about it with the with the NHL diversity program and hockey is for everyone. He has reached so many young people across the cross North America across the world. And for that alone. I would think he would be a very worthy candidate. And then when you go back and think of him, you know, the in the first African Canadian player first black player to play in the National Hockey League. It's the you know that was quite a challenge at that time for sure just a great person. So I'm really thrilled. Let's talk about the to Marty's that were inducted. Let's start with Saint Louis. Terrific story. I was in Columbus on Saturday. So Sam Rosen actually got a chance to ask John Tortorella at his press conference about mardi. And he just he couldn't he couldn't say Nuff just about his story. His screw you attitude is he put it seemed like everybody thought and told him he couldn't do. It and for him that not only become a Stanley Cup champion, but become a hall of Famer it is one of the really great stories in sports to see something like that. Yeah. No question about it. And again, I go back to my time..

"Game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Thursday edition of game misconduct. I am down Liberec not a lot of games last night. But I thought all of them were pretty entertaining. Of course, all of the focus was in Winnipeg to the jets and the Maple Leafs first time ever that NBC sports that had one of that Wednesday night national game where both teams were Canadian emanating from Winnipeg first time that doc Emmerick had been in Winnipeg since he was the devil announcer. The old Winnipeg Jets goes back, you know, prior to nineteen Ninety-six we're talking probably somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty two twenty three years ago. The last time docket stepped into that city and he called a great game. And I'll say this about Winnipeg we can get all excited all we want. Of course. The Leafs win that game four to that. They've got this tremendous comeback ability and they made it three nothing game at three two game in the third period. And we saw we did the last couple of times they played with come from behind victories, including an amazing come from behind victory against Saint Louis, but you can't play that way every night. I mean There's this guy. got to be a little bit more consistency to your game. You can't keep getting off to these slow starts. I think Winnipeg's terrific. And I think there are playoff team. And I think there are a Cup contender. There's no question. But when you start to get to that level, you're gonna get graded a little bit differently than other teams. And that's not the way you wanna play in the playoffs. If you're gonna make a run now, they went to the conference final last year. They're looking to take the next step. There's nothing you can do in October that is going to change what you need to do in April. But you would like to clean some of those things up but give credit Toronto they passed the test. And it was with not your usual suspects score in the goals until Taveras got the huge gold made it four two after healers and shy. Fli had scored back to back goals in the third period to cut the deficit to one. So it's a virus gets his seventh. But captain NS Qadri getting the goals cabinets now out five, so don't misunderstand. As far as that. I'm saying that he's not a good player. But you figure with a marquee gay. I'm like that. It's going to be Matthews. That's going to be Taveras. But it was captain Aniston Qadri NS and cadre getting their first of the season and a nice win for Toronto four to over. The Winnipeg Jets real tough one for the islanders very tough. Now, they got a point which is important three four and one now on the season. But you've got a panther team. That's been on the ropes played a lot of overtime games. Got squashed by the Rangers the night before. So the play in the second of back to backs and you've got to nothing lead going into the third period. He got to win that game. You gotta now maybe you don't get caught up in winning it in regulation because it's non visual team. Who cares? Maybe that can come back to haunt you in a trace for the wild card, but the point is you're up to nothing at home against a reeling panther team that played the night before you cannot lose that game, Nelson and Everley get the tallies for the islanders in the first and second period respectively. Go into the third period, and it's betrayal quick to forty eight in his third Davidov is. Fourth comes midway through. And then Hoffman scores. The goal of the game winning goal in overtime, thirty three seconds. And that's a bad bad loss for the your calendars. They get in to get a point. So I guess you can live with it. But this Allender team trying to find their way Panthers. Trying to find their way as well. We'll see if this maybe Spurs the Panthers on with a nice comeback. Remember this team's gotta go overseas to for that global series. So Panthers needed to they got two of the big third period. Possible Stanley Cup. Final preview. Maybe it's a little too early to talk about that avalanche. The lightning from Colorado. Great game fun game. Boy, love the see. These two teams hook up in the Stanley Cup final. That would be great again way too early to talk about that..

"Misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Tuesday edition of game is conduct. I'm Don Gregg. I guess you could also call it the pink eye dishing. Yes, I've been diagnosed. Unbelievable amount of things going on right now. But talking still marches on, think does not stop. Japan. Big guy does not stop hockey announcer and certain Staubach player, but it is incredibly contagious. So make sure if you got a pink eye or you happen to know somebody who does kind of stay away from each other. All right. Let's start with the suspension. We kind of touched on it yesterday with e j of course, Matheson body slamming Patterson. He gets the two game suspension penalized for interference in the unsportsmanlike conduct against the Canucks earlier over the weekend. And there seems to be a little bit of a groundswell of, hey, give Mike Matheson, a break. Patterson is a very small player, so maybe he doesn't understand his own strength. You watched the video. I think it's clear that it was excessive and it's about protecting the stars in about protecting players. And I know it irritates a lot of old school fans that want to see the rough and tumble days of the seventies where. Nobody was safe, but you also want to see like what the NFL is doing. It's frustrating that they have all these rules for the quarterbacks, but listen keeping the quarterbacks healthy overall is good for the league, and you got a good young kid. It's off to a tremendous start. He gets body slammed to the ice. If it's going to cost you two games, it's excessive and it shouldn't just it shouldn't be allowed, right? So, yeah, you're trying to protect a head injuries, but at the same time, trying to protect the integrity of the game, and it is a rough game and there is hitting and there's physicality, maybe not to the liking of some, maybe not at the extent that we all fell in love with the sport when it was difficult to skate down the middle of the ice, your head down and you knew you're going to get, you're going to get cracked in the skull, and that was your fault, not the guy that hit you, but it's a different world now and obviously the excessive violence of the sport has to be curbed in some way, shape or form. When you see a player get body slammed, you got to do something about it and it just excessive. And it's not warranted. This still can be a physics. Sport, it's still could be played at a very high level on a very physical level, but it doesn't have to be played at that type of level. So I thought that this suspension was a good one regardless of the size of the player of the way that the player I think Matheson knew what he was doing. I don't think he wanted to hurt Patterson, but at the same time, that's a play that if you get it out of the league, they'll be less injuries and Israeli, no reason for it. That's not a hit. That's not a hockey play. That's just to excessive. Therefore, games last night, Toronto continues to March on. It's really been an interesting story because you watch the Leafs and I still get this overwhelming sense that they're not quite there yet. No. So what did you talk about the only lost one game all year, but you do watch them and you feel like that there's still more that can be done. I mean, that's the level this team is at right now, but it's great. Obviously, Austin Matthews keeps his point streak alive at seven. He did not score a goal. So he's still at ten, but you saw Patrick Marlowe score his first goal of the season and just they're the type of a team that you really have to be disciplined. Play against the Los Angeles Kings there in the middle of this long road trip. It was just a bad match up for any liuqiu will Chuck did score a goal that at the time put him back into the game, but just not nearly enough. But if you want to dance with his team, you better learn to be disciplined. First of all, you got to stay out of the box. Second of all, you've got to make sure that if you wanna fly with them that you better make sure that you can because if you wanna get into a track, meet with the Toronto Maple Leafs more times than not, you're gonna lose. She can have to be disciplined..

"Podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Monday edition of game. It's conduct. I am. Dan league-record can't be Monday unless we're talking to our buddy EJ Radic from jell now on the NHL network, Monday through Friday from four to six PM. How are you. I'm good. Thank you for the plug. We appreciate you really look good all the spots that you're doing. It's really just coming together for you and feel real good for you and everybody, Mary at the height of the right at right at the end is coming. It's better than after the fact. Right. It's it's good that it's happening. Never ever happen. I'm with you. Well, thank you. There's just so many things to gotta get into and talk about great weekend, although I want to get this out of the way Jay and I am assuming Steve hot to pay tros is still in control of the scheduling of the National Hockey League Friday, no game. And I listen, usually, what's the difference? Dawn, maybe they'd only be two or three. I just don't like sport going dark and and I just don't know. I, I'm sure there's a reason for it. I know they like to load up the games on Saturday. We're seeing more afternoon games and the NFL's not intimidated to go up against the NFL and put games on the afternoon on Sundays and kid friendly and all that I get. And I'm sure there's reasons for it and I and I congratulate them for those reasons, but there's got to be a way in which you've got some games going with with baseball playoffs and everything going on in the competition to begin with. I just don't think it makes sense to be darker on on a Friday night. Yeah. I mean, listen, I I'm not gonna argue with you, but I know that you know, you know, Steve Hauser patriots and we both know there's a good guy and he's been doing it for a long time and the other people that are involved with putting it together. I'm sure that's not the ideal scenario for them. But at the end of the day, you know, teams wanna play on Saturday night at home, and then they wanna play on Thursday night. You have an audit route teams now with thirty one teen. So you never have every single team playing on the same night. So you know, I'm sure there was there were many reasons for that to happen that way, but I agree with that. You don't like to have for us at the NFL network. I mean, we do show four to six says, you say Monday through Friday, and you know, we only did an hour show on Friday because we just reared because you know it's it's too much to do for no for no games, you know. But it only happens once in the rare time I understand. I get it just like your your, I hear your point Donny. Listen hockey fans felt the same way. I don't talk it occupied and they're like, hey, why? No game. Now it's, it was a little..
