"To me is almost the cash out for Connor Ben. No, man. Why do you think differently? You're just saying an Arya about Conor boat. Virtual Ortiz not facing Terrence Crawford. Why is it okay for Connor Ben to face Chris eubank? The money? The money is one, of course, because this is a business. The styles and the style matchup is another thing, but the maturity. That's the main thing I want to focus on the maturity. You listen to Connor Ben talk. You watch him fight, and he's ahead of his years, and it's not only because of his father. And it's not only what he does in the ring, but he has this confidence that most fighters learn on the job. Virgil Ortiz is still learning on the job. That's why he switched trainers, even though he's knocked out everybody. If he was a confident, if he's not confident in 18 and old, 18 knockouts, nothing's going to make him confident. That just goes to show you that he's not fully matured. Connor Ben on the van, he's a fully matured specimen of a specimen of a boxer of a fighter and I love watching him fight. He's a star. He's a future megastar. And he can beat Eubanks. Maybe that's why he's doing it. He's biting off a little bit more than he can chew, but if he can actually somehow win this fight, we got the next British Canelo. You know, across the pond. Because he's handsome, he knocks people out. He's articulate, and he can he can model everything from laptops to underwear. So he's going to be, he's going to be you're going to be marketing dreams. You're doing best case scenario here. And I get that. But look at the opponents Connor Ben is faced in the last year. And the worst case scenario is he loses a decision. He won't get knocked down. You don't think he gets knocked out by you bank? No. You just said eubank and punch. Yeah, but he's not going to get knocked out. Okay, but look at the guys Connor Ben is faced. Sebastian formella can't punch. On Samuel Vargas, camp Noah wasn't smashed from a strong Porter to somebody else. One last like that. Samuel Vargas, not a defeated can't punch. Chris Algeria, due respect to our friend, can't punch. Chris van heared it. Can't punch. Like he has fought a lot of guys that can't punch. Now he's going up two weight classes to face a guy that can punch. I don't see the pathway to victory. I'm not saying it's a great idea. All I'm saying is to calculate a risk that I am not like this one more than Virgil Ortiz. Yes. Well, there's more money in it. That's the only thing you can say about this match. There's more money. There you go. When you weigh the pros and cons, I think this is a calculated smart risk by Connor Bennett, mind you. There's legacy. There's blood line involved. Absolutely. That's why it's a story that's so much money in it. There's a story to sell. So if I had a father, I would like to like to revenge. His last whatever it is. But I don't. So you know, if I would have had someone like that in my life that he came up short with someone else, you can bet that I would have stepped up, man, I would have taken, I would have taken the name to another level. I would have manics you have a dad. If your dad would have got beat by somebody, wouldn't you want to face somebody that's just a little bit bigger, just to oh, okay, but again, they fought to a draw the second time. So it's not exactly revenge. Yeah, but the second one I wasn't a draw was a split decision loss. It was a joy. It was a draw, yeah. That wasn't. I think you're overreaching here. And look, if Connor Ben was like 31 years old, I might agree with you, but he's 25. And Sergio, is it going to be, how do you think he's going to go back down to welterweight after gaining 13 pounds for this fight is going to drop back down to welterweight and resume his career as a top prospect there if he loses badly? This to me is a cash up. Symbol is that. He's cashing out. He's going to make a lot of money, but this will be the end we see of Conor Bennett. Oh, you're nuts. Maybe I agree. I might give you some credit with the cash out because like I said, this is a business. It's price fighting. You show me the money. I'll take the risk. But no, one is not going to get knocked out. So how is it a cash out? Two is going to make a boatload of money. If he makes it a competitive fight and comes up short, it's still going to be a learning experience. He can drop back down and wait or you can campaign at junior middleweight gulp and wait comfortably. He's fine. He's a good-looking, very hard punching kid that has a big following. It all depends how he loses that fight. If he gets knocked out, okay, it was a mistake. If he goes the distance loses the close decision, it's a win win. You know, was the best story behind Chris eubank Connor Ben, the parents in the second fight. Don king, at the time, had written into their contracts that the winner of the fight and the loser of the fight would both become part of Don king promotions. He did a drawing. He did rather than draw. So neither one of them had to join Tom king, which I love amazing piece of bad lawyering or whoever wrote that contract up. For donkey. All right, let's keep it over in the UK for a minute. And let's talk about Tyson Fury. Who unsurprisingly is looking to get back into the ring, fury has been on social media. And he wants to face Derek Chisora, talking about completing the trilogy against Derek disor mind you, fury's beaten to soar twice, pretty badly. About ten years ago was the last fight. But fury wants Derek to soar a part three just aura says he wants it from what I've been told they are massively a part in terms of money. To the point that representatives are both have told me this fight is not going to happen. So I'll ask you this. I don't think you'll be surprised that fury wants to get back into the ring, but what do you make of fury calling out there to sora? It's the gypsy king being a mastermind promoter, keeping his name in the mix, being popular, and Cesar is always in really entertaining fights, but he comes up short when it comes to fighters like Tyson Fury, he came up short twice already. He comes up short with every big name. Look, all respect to him for beating Kubrick who live, but Kubrick will have was as washed as just Derek just sora is you always got to give him a chance against people to put up a good fight, but not to win. He's a heavyweight version of Gabriel rosado, always in an entertaining, very, very liked, very popular soldier that loves going to war, but he doesn't come out with the victories of the triumphs. So when it all comes down to it, and they both have like a dozen losses. But Peter the people's champ, right? But not against the real champ. You don't give them chances against the number one guy. You can give them chances against the number four, 5 guys or guys coming up in the mix, but no, not against Tyson Fury, especially if he's already come up short twice. Like, I want to see jossa if he wants to complete the trilogy against kubrat more power to you. That's a fine fight for sore. The second fight was actually pretty entertaining. Let's see that fight. If he wants to face dilly and white in a third fight, I'd be okay with that. Yeah, those are okay. I don't want to see him against the best heavyweight in the world. It doesn't make any sense. That's a way for Tyson Fury to cash a big check and not beat any danger. And that sort of fits Sergio with what ties has been doing since his last fight. He's calling out nagano, the MMA champion. He's calling out now Derek dessert. He's looking to do exhibitions more than he's looking to do actual

"My God, it's a lion. And Zeke's in the ring. That would be great, yeah. Oh man. It's a guitar. There's a thing I saw online that I chuckled and I'm like, oh God, this might actually happen. It was like Owens and Ezekiel have an I quit match when instead of saying I quit, they have to say like the real name. Yeah. Okay, so what do you think's going to happen? If you had to guess, if you had to put money on one thing, what would it be? I would say the beard. I would say big beard. Yeah. The fake beef. You make them look like old Elias. They put the hair extensions, a fake beard. I mean, come on. Hollywood can make that look good. I think they'll have Elias on the TitanTron. It's something he recorded months ago. Years ago. And Elias will be talking to him or Ezekiel will be talking to him from the ring. And he's like, I'm looking to older brother. Or right before they shaved him down. They knew this was going to happen. Right. That's what I think they did. God damn, there's an E all right, now we're going to shave you down, right? And Vince is like, I got first dim. It's like a cut. Yeah, then we got it. Right there. Chest hair. Erica, for the podcast, it would be hilarious if you shaved your beard and you came as Enrique Eric's step brother from Mexico. Yeah, fucking hilarious. His twin step row. From Mexico. Enrique. Yellow all have an episode where we shave our beards. And that's not a mind trimmed down yet. We have hair elsewhere, so it's not a big deal for us. Eric's got hair elsewhere. When we were getting changed at doomsday, he's the Ciampa. Never forget. He's the chimp of our podcast, a jobber. Well, no pre raw NXT Champa. The Champa we love. The champion Champa. Yeah. Yeah. Are you getting a piggyback ride from Don king? What's going on down there? Where's that from? Someone said that somewhere. That's pretty obviously. Eric has so many quotes. He can't remember the idea. Definitely not a Simpsons reference. A little too dirty 'cause I would say lucius sweet lucha sweet, yeah. Next up we have MVP versus Cedric Alexander with omas side. Why? Is MVP still wrestling? Why is this? Why is all of this? This is part of there. We want to have another quick match, a three minute match. Here we go. MVP wins and then omos throws Cedric out of the ring. Wow, great. Where the fuck are root and Ziggler. They were there last week. Have you checked? Check the what? If Zeke has been a future endeavor yet, he's not. He lost. That's pretty bad. Well, they'll be back together in a week and they'll break up again. Of course. I mean, how many times has The Hurt Business gotten back together? I don't know. He's tried a bunch. I don't know if they've ever actually done it. Next up, we have Seth Rollins versus A.J. Styles, money in the bank qualifying match. Earlier in the show, Kevin Patrick had a sit down interview with Rollins and Seth said he had no remorse for what he did to Cody Rhodes saying Cody's a virus. He's been plaguing WWE since WrestleMania. So I took matters into my own hands and he holds up the sledgehammer and says I might have to do the same thing to AJ that I did to Cody. Yeah. So A.J. Styles, attack Seth. He lays them out. And AJ says that's for Cody. Why does he give a fuck about Cody? Correct. They have literally not interacted. Yeah. No. Never. Never, ever. Ever in wrestling? I don't think because by the time AJ got to WWE, Cody was bailing. He was gone. And some people online were like, well, they were both in the bullet club. And I was like, not at the same time. And that's not canon in WWE. The bullet club at WWE. I'm sorry. Who are you? Correct. That's just a baby face like it's just like this is for Rudy. It has nothing, you know, that's all that is. It's just like, hey, I'm a baby face. So I love that other baby face 'cause Cody's our future. Right. That's all that was. Also, AJ apparently doesn't care about Finn Balor joining Judgment Day. Right. He has not commented on it. Nope. You know, this is what AW did with Sammy Guevara with the Jericho shit, never comments on. You can't do that. You've been tagging forever. Yeah. I thought you guys were in a club. You were too sweet in each other. Yeah. Just the week ago with live in the middle. Yes. You were tag teaming Liv Morgan. I mean, what's better than that? You touched tips right in front of Liv. It literally makes beautiful. She was so excited. Zero cents. I know I wasn't here last week, but this whole judgment dating. Were you doing double turn? Started. It's so stupid. And I don't know if you have rumors this week about watching. Yes. 'cause I heard some too. Yeah. But I mean, how do you, he just, they beat, you beat Finn Balor. Why would you go with Finn Balor when you beat him? That's beat him. You're gonna go with the guy who lost? MVP did with omos. You lost. I'm gonna go with you. Yeah, no, it makes you do that. Why would you do that? And I DMed edge. Edge all of Famer. Yeah. I DMed edge and I still haven't heard back. I assume he must be really hurt, guys. He must be. He must be very upset. And he's probably still not did he go home? Did he send you a picture of his boarding pass? Yeah. No, he probably is upset. He's probably fucking pissed. Of course. So these two always have a really good match, and this one was as well, but it ended with a roll up. Seth one was, of course. Even this has to be a roll up. Next up, Kevin Patrick, interviews, Bianca Belair in the ring. Belair says Judgment Day is corrupted, Rhea Ripley, because they used to be best friends, and it's like, no, you weren't. No. No, you always fought each other in NXT. Don't be dumb. Lots. But Belair says she's gonna retain her raw women's championship at money in the bank. Then the Judgment Day appears on the big screen. And they were saying we were going to have answers from the Judgment Day this week. This was all the Judgment Day did this week. Yeah. They show up on the big screen. Damien priest says they're all equal. Now that they've got rid of edge, it's like, yeah, you're all jobbers. Congratulations. No mouthpiece. No more holes. None of you are great talkers. Oh, guess who's back? Smiling Finn Balor. Yeah. Welcome back, even as a fucking heel. As a heel. Ripley says fuck. I mean. Finn Balor, same old spoiling Finn Balor. Ripley says, I don't tell people I'm intimidating. I just am. Well, you just told us. You just told us. You just did the thing you say you don't do. And that's all from Judgment Day. Right. Thanks for coming. Oh, what's that? Now that they don't have edge, they have barely any TV time you say? This is the beginning of the end, and I actually can't wait for edge to bury all three of them, including Rhea Ripley. Yes. Give her a fucking kid's hair tone to the head. I hate all of them now. I hate Finn Balor. That's how much they've ruined this fucking stable. I hate Finn Balor. That's what you did for me. And not in a good way. I don't want to see them. Yeah. Correct. No one does. No. And you know they're not going to make him the demon either because that's too over. That's too much of a baby face. Right. So it's not like he's going to be the demon. No. There's no way Rhea is going to win the title. Why does Vince take stables? Why? He had the undisputed era. I mean, when Enzo and big Cass debuted, they had the biggest pop I've ever heard. They.

"To you? I think the aggressive part came naturally to me, but I also, and that's what I tell, especially the women fighters today, but all my fighters, it's about who entertains the crowd, who puts butts in the seats, that's who's going to be talked about at the end of the night, and that's who's going to get paid. So and that's not always right, because you can have all the talent in the world, but for whatever reason, you don't have the charisma, you don't fight fans, the majority of the fight fans want to see knockouts. But they at least want to see really solid hard shots being landed. Do they want to see you trying to knock somebody out? They're not always a fan of just the great boxers. I mean, we've seen that like pernell Whitaker, great boxer, legend, great boxer. But maybe never really one over the fight fans. So you have to have that entertainment value as well. You mentioned Don king and his placement of you on his shows and the major cards was obviously huge for your career. How did you get connected with Don king? That's another thing that happened just by chance. I was working out in a gym and Daytona Beach. A gentleman that was training fighters for him for Don king happened to come in the gym and his name was Jesse Robinson. And he saw me sparring and thought, wow, well, first he asked, who is that guy? Because I had long hair at the time, I had it all tucked up under my headgear, and they started laughing at him and said, that's not a guy. That's Christy. And so he just kept watching and watching him and every day that went by, we got a little more to know each other a little better. And finally, he said, I want to take you to Don king. And you have to remember, coal miner's daughter from southern West Virginia, and my first thought is, of course, you're going to take me to Don king. Never really thinking that would happen. One day I got the phone call, BK was ready to see you. And as fast as I could, I jumped in the car from Daytona and drove to Fort Lauderdale. When you met with him for the first time, you know, what was his what was his plan for you? What was his message to you at that time? You know, that's a good question because I don't know if he really had a plan. I don't even know why to be honest why he decided to sign me. I had taken a VHS tape that tells you how old I am down to show him and he had just moved offices. His office guy didn't have everything set up, so I couldn't see the tape. It wouldn't play. So I actually got up in his office and started the shadow box. And he did the famous Don king laugh and sign her up, so we did. Signed a signed contract that right there on the spot. And being with him, what did that do for you? Did it happen right away? Did it legitimize you in right away? I think yes, right away. The first thing I simulate him in October of 93, I fought on the first card for him in January of 94, which happened to be the first card ever promoted at the grand in Las Vegas. That was the Chavez brakey Randall. One show. Loaded four. I think it was four or 5 world title fights on the show. So here I am, you know, you're getting introduced to the world. I wasn't getting TV exposure in the United States, but I was getting all over the world. So I didn't take long, but people from other countries started to ask me for interviews. And I really can never understand how. People in the United States don't even know me. How can they know me? But they know me from the king vision needs of all the fights. I remember reading early on. Did you have to wear like a breast protector at one point? Did they make you wear like a body armor or something? Yeah, that was actually that happened in Bristol Tennessee. And one of the very, very first fights. And I mean, not only was it ridiculous, but it was embarrassing. Yes, that did happen. It's amazing that people would think that would be a thing back then. That would make any sense whatsoever. Yeah, the sport is definitely progressed. In lots of ways. When you look back on your career, what would you say was the signature fight of your career? Oh, of course, the fight that really kicked off women's boxing was against dear GO-GURT. And we were in the right place at the right time and we put on a great fight. Being under Tyson Bruno and we were not the opening fight that night, we were like two fights or one fight between the main event Mike Tyson and us. So by this point, basically everybody's already settled into their seat. They're ready to watch the fights. I do hear that when we came into the ring, then we got a little bit of a booze and catcalls and some people were like, what the hell is dawn king doing now? But after the first round, it was we had one over a lot, a lot of fight fans. Yeah, and I remember having this discussion with Katie about how she remembers that fight. And how important that fight was, not just that it happened, but it was so entertaining that it was so back and forth, the action, like the importance of the quality of that fight, was just as important as that fight taking place. Absolutely, because what if we had been slappers? I mean, why would we have been out there or even if I would have or one of us would have gone out there and knocked out the other one? And it wouldn't have been that competitive, bloody battle. You know, would have had the same reaction from the fight fans. So like I said, that was definitely a timing thing and we were in the right place. We were both ready to bring our very best. And I feel like we did that night. We both brought our best. I mean, from someone that went from fighting in front of a few hundred people in Bristol Tennessee to fighting on that card in that event. I mean, what was that like for you? You know, when somebody says something is all that happened, it was just really unbelievable. You and people out there really can't understand how small my little town is. Actually, I made one mile, right? Just one mile? Yeah. I really would not accept anything but Ron borges to go back to my hometown with me because I told him, unless you actually go there. I can talk to you about it. I can tell you about it. But unless you actually go there and walk those streets and meet the people, you just can't understand. So he did. And he was just like, I'm really glad that I came because now I do understand better than things that you were trying to tell me. So you go from that person. I had 86 people graduated in my high school class to now fighting in front of live 20,000 people. And hundreds of countries all around the world. It's pretty remarkable. You know, going back to your hometown makes you think of your relationship with your family. How long did it take your family to kind of accept that you were professional boxer to believe that it was something real? You know, I'm not really sure. I think my mother, at first, of course, wasn't happy about it. And but my dad always said, if you're going to do it, be in great shape and go out there and learn and prepare yourself. Don't go out there and get hurt. Don't want to embarrass yourself. So.

"All right, Trevor Brian is the WBA heavyweight champion on Saturday. He will defend that title against Jonathan guidry that's a fight that will take place in war in Ohio and you could watch it on pay per view. Trevor, before I get into the fight and kind of your place in the heavyweight division, I was watching back your media conference call with Don king. And I'm wondering, at what point when Don starts talking, do you kind of lose track of everything that he's saying during these conversations? You know, Don Kingston has historian, man. So just to sometimes enlist, listen to him, you can get lost because he has so much knowledge and so much information. And sometimes even I turn to a fan as well just sitting there talking to him and listening to him. So yeah, man, it's funny. I just love to hear that man speak. Yeah, I've been down to his office in Florida a few times. I've done magazine stories on him. It's just at some point he's like, I'm not sure where he's going with his conversations. And, you know, I was just laughing just thinking, watching your conference call. Just vintage Don when he starts talking. How would you describe your relationship with Don king? I have a great relationship with dawn on these my promoter and we talk about whatever we need to talk about for the fights and to tell you in my career. I promise and caress heavyweight champion. So what when you look back at the decision to sign with Don, what went into that for you? As I said, that last interview as well. We have my first meeting with none. He basically told us, hey man, I usually don't sign guys straight out of the amateurs and I signed guys that's getting ready to fight for tiles or in positions for titles. So that was something big coming from my city of all in New York to amateur guys getting signed being a Mary mom, but what got me was when Don king showed me his leisure of all the champions, all the former champions of the heavyweight champions, every champion he had and all the millionaires he made. And I was like, man, sign me up. I want my legacy to start hurt. I want to be, I want to be part of this list. And I told him that day, I'm going to be heavyweight champion one day. So give me the contract. I'm ready to sign. Let's put the working. And that's where I started off..

"I mean, the interest was genuine because remember, you don't have sponsors saying to you, Bud Light or something, hey, if you do a couple hours beforehand, we'll sponsor. It's a real meritocracy. And they had genuine interest in it. And they had genuine love of it. But I also think one of the other things that happens is you start to see with HBO and boxing, big questions, like for instance, when Don king and Mike Tyson did their deal, they renewal for HBO sent Abraham got on the executive at HBO got on the phone with them and said congratulations and Tyson and ting were like, yeah, and you know the best thing about this deal is we don't have to put up with Larry merchant anymore. And set goes. What do you mean by that? And Tyson says to Seth, well, you know, Don told me that in the new deal, we don't, you know, Larry merchant's not going to cover any of my fights. I don't have to talk to him anymore. And Seth goes, hold onto anybody. That's not in the deal. And Don, of course, who, you know, kind of thought it was, but it wasn't written in the audience. Well, wait a second. I thought we were. They wind up literally going to showtime over this. And so you see HBO standing up for Larry merchant and the journalistic DNA of sports coverage in a way that a lot of other places wouldn't have done. I mean, I'm not trying to be a kiss ass here. You do have to admire it. And I think all these things coming up like that are really important. And they look, at one point, you know this, I mean, there are how many heavyweight belts, how many different kinds of they lost they lost control. The sport lost control of itself. And so what HBO did with Don king and others is they said, look, let's make it a unification bout. Let's make this a real playoff, so to speak. Amongst champions. So we get to one champion. One true champion. And you know, I mean, I think that those that ability to really transfer transport the sport to a different level and a more accessible level, pretty pretty big time. Yeah, I agree I mean, I remember that about HBO and Larry merchant Don king and that and I do admire that because I think it's a responsibility of a network to tell the truth. As often as it can, not, you know, kind of be a vehicle for, you know, just people to make stuff up and propaganda, if you will..

"Draw a line somewhere right. I mean but some people. Don't look. I'm gonna i'm gonna pay my eighty bucks. I'm going to steal it. Or however they're consuming the fights and they don't really care what these guys are doing now again if someone's running around beating up women and raping women and you don't care well there's something fundamentally wrong with you but i do think that there is a certain segment of the boxing public and the public at large that views. It that way. Yeah i think. That's that's true. And i think it can also be said for some people in boxing. Remember mike tyson was released from prison. Don king was waiting for him and he was ready to cash in on them as soon as he got out of jail from serving time for rape impossible to seamlessly transition from matt conversation. But let's talk about the fight. We have coming up this weekend. Between canelo alvarez an kayla plant cannella holds three pieces of hundred and sixty eight pound title kayla. Plant has the last one. There's been some bad blood between these two guys keith. Where kayla plant has dug up the old allegations from three years ago of cannella alvarez using performance enhancing drugs if we all recall before the second galactic and fight tested positive for clenbuterol a banned substance. He claimed it was tainted meat. Go off to went after him. Pretty good in abel sanchez went after him. Pretty good in the build up to that fight can seem to take it out on gough. Get in that fight. That was probably one of if not the best performance that we've seen from low alvarez given the caliber of the opponent that was in front of him kayla plant kind of poke in that bear again. What are you. let's start there. What do you make of kayla plants. Kind of bringing this stuff. Back up again bringing it to the forefront do you think he's a true believer in what he's saying or might there be some strategy there to kind of take out of his game. I think it's a combination of both chris. I think maybe he believes that canelo is a dirty fighter but also he's trying to piskun mellow off and get him off of his game a little bit. I dunno what he said kello on the stage back in september but whatever it was it made cannella lose his cool now says it's because he called his call them a mother effort and he took that the meeting was talking about. Don't you think don't you think he's like i watched that show time. I don't think he said anything on that. Stage besides the usual kind of back and forth. I think when rage cannella was the stuff before that when the oscar does thing happened in kayla plant linked into camello and eddie renault so i think he was already got at boiling point before he stepped on that stage which might speak to now. I don't think it's going to really matter on saturday. "Knew i was such a big puncher till after my career was over like i didn't know how you know i had listened to george foreman tells david letterman. Let and said hey. Who's biggest punchy. Ever forty said gerry cooney. That was amazing to me. But after i finished fighting i realized how many broken ribs i gave people how many broken overload pits. How many broken. Noses i did. And i didn't know my own strength. And i just realized after the game is all that professional athletes are just strong within the regular joe stronger. You said just a minute ago that your career ended after the norton fire. What do you feel that. Because that was the night that i started to party. I felt like if i deserved it. Or i was scared. Who i was becoming. 'cause i i grew up with you. Know good your failure anything. So i mean this things happen to me is like i couldn't believe it and that night i think i got scared. Or if i thought while lemme drink. And if i lose then will be. I can blame it on that terrible terrible thinking what you do when you grow up and all that and i wished the life of me i had somebody who is a can't let's go. Let's take a shoddy. Let's pay attention. This is important now. I told you know years ago. Listen five years pay attention. Pay attention he didn't he didn't and look what happens. So you know we all make mistakes. I did hopefully one day. I'll be able to touch that. One kid and i can take him to let him go. The distance you After the norton you're white hot at that point but it's about thirteen months therefore you're vase. Yeah what went on. In that time. I should have fought three times. King kept me out. Because i wouldn't sign with him. Manages dated. want me to fight anybody else. They wanted to be payday. And i'm the guy in the middle. I got to manage. That can't stand each other. And i'm in the middle all the time and then i got don king over that kid standing him and i'm the guy catching lousy press. Because i'm not fighting. But it was me. I wanted to fight. I wanted to be the best. I could when i get homes and wanted to be better than i was found out after the fight was over last year. Homestore told me he never drank. Never smoked never took the his whole career. I started drinking at twelve. So i didn't know if you don't take care of the car your car you don't change the oil you don't change it. Transmission fluid you check the ties. It's not gonna run forever so i. I fell prey to that. And it's happened in the past i've seen it. I've watched it. And i got caught up realizing it for people jerry that don't understand the power that don king held in one thousand nine hundred eighty s. How would you describe it. He owned everybody..

"Stage. We have the the second part of ali's return. He loses the decision to frazier and fight that you just mentioned so leading up to say form because he obviously started fighting such a prolific rate but leading up to four men. You still had a management part with ali on that side of it even if that wasn't necessarily your promotion correct. No okay explain that to me. Harvey was the beginning to manage. I became the promote and air three loss to frankly we realize that alley at bid acted Three and a half years and most people's still considered alley heavyweight champion world. So we we would do a fight for ali every eight six to eight weeks when fight after another all over the world and brazen web his old time managing yank durham He was the heavyweight champion so he could find some nonentities and fighting frequently sousse game at summit two guys stats and and somebody else not meant nothing. And so if you as a person after that. Allie raised by two years later. If you wish that person would abby way champing was they would say ali even though fraser's the check and phrase it was spaniard organization. Nobody fight foreman and women as you know. Knocked them out. And that ultimately led to allie binding. Zaire where allie recaptured the heavyweight. But at that point. I don't all of alleys fights and then herbert came to me. And he said this crazy don king which are free a five and a half million dollars by women and another insane number. And i said amanita which is gonna give you up front. "I wanted to kind of take that big picture sense with mike that we got the john through his friends at the end of this code of where mike is now in forgiveness and redemption. But i was. I was really fascinated. Just kinda here mike. In his own words say what that evolution was for him where he now in his life. You don't sympathize with mike tyson. Because he was convicted of rape. And as jim noted on your podcast he sent him a letter and said i didn't do this but i did. Four or five other things that maybe belong. You know behind these bars. So that has to be factored in. But maybe empathize is the right word for it. Because i mean as you note in the the meat of it you kind of go into his backstory and the guy was pulled in fifteen different directions yet people reaching in his pocket enablers that came around especially when don king was a big part of his life he was effectively. A prop to make a lotta people a lot of money. And i can't imagine ben. The mental toll that that took on mike tyson came from the hardest of backgrounds found himself in a hole in a lucrative situation but with some just bad people around him so orchestrating. A lot of it to me. This story of mike as kind of hard to relate to of a guy in sports like you look at mike tyson. And you're like i can never. That's mike tyson. I can't possibly relate to that guy in what he's been through. But when you really pull it back. I do think mike story is really easy to empathize with and to connect with and a lot of ways. Because as you as you know it is we get into. He was bored into the worst possible conditions. Where you know most people either die or end up in jail. And he did what he had to do to survive is sort of like what it comes down to is. It's very clear that mike tyson is a very intelligent person either. Hear him talk if you hear him speak. He's you know he's just very clearly a smart guy. And sometimes what you're born into and what's your throat into for the first fifteen years of your life imprint on you a lot of things that are hard to shake and you know for mike. That was a getting introduced the liquor and drugs before he was a teenager..

We had a few days that you know, allowed us to hang out. And do some things with some friends and family that were in town much different than this Super Bowl. "And that's not to say riveta just how deep in heavy i sounds when my favorite bands of all time i mean comments. He owned douglas. An older guy came out of kim near forty at this point. right yeah. He was easily ten fifteen years older than all the other. Guys i mean he's in his seventies now he had a quote I wish i printed out. I was reading. Well he was talking about talking to chris cornell because they recording super soured and was the same time in the he and chris given each other a hard time about the fact that they always like sinks allowed and that they were going to try and like bring down a little bit not always push the envelope so much on their next two albums right first of all. That's interesting but second about can you imagine how cool it is that you had a conversation with chris cornell about not pushing your vocals too hard on your next album. That's amazing because that guy has the best rock and roll voice ever and he goes to. It goes to show what influenced at king's x had on chris cornell who is the greatest vocalist our genera without question Ever that mutual respect. I mean you don't know if you don king's x realize as these guys were playing in the space with their peers in their peers loved them and respected them. That's important they were. I have a quote. Doug said that he was doing this. Really low tune song and he the melody on top of it and that was in the middle of deep kind of depression and a midlife crisis he was trying to figure things out any card out in the song in this was how he was feeling and so this happened to be his five favorite trophy. Mix with this place. He was that were in live. Where everything's pivoted from this. Wow that's really cool. Just it all just happened to hit just right. I can do that. The who has i could do. That would be my only complaint here. I don't like the who is at the time was probably it was bad ass. Yeah the hood doesn't stand the test of time for me. Hey if that's the only complaint you got about the song that much of complaints marching. Who is i'm okay. I live without the who i can deal with. The who is though. I'll take him. I can live without there. No doodoo all. i'm saying. Thank god for that. I'm with. You would rather have a who over at newton any day of the porsche on a day of the week over sean on knob not to to do you got you need help. Our this is you. This is another one of my favorite album. So this song to me has. We were talking about earlier. About like their struggle with The music producers and people leading through and everything and this song has seemingly like a really obvious like religious spiritual overtones to it. But i have always taken it as he talking about that guy. He's talking about sam taylor. This guy came to me. And i've tried to listen. I tried to do what he told me and he told me. Nobody else is ever going to be your friend. He announced they're all everybody else is going to try and fool you. It's just me. I'm the guy because it's so bittersweet about relationship. Do you think he was the whole walk in the big parade. And you know if you do what i tell you. You're going to get to play with the big ways. It's going to be fine. You think he was led on like he felt like he was. He was led to place kind of abandoned because even sailor he talks about this point they weren't really focusing on king's x because they've moved on right. Yeah well i think kings x felt like that he has led them in a lot of directions and then just kind of dropped them. You know it's like they.

World Dog King said climbing upon his dirty mattress thrown he had added a Grungy Green Green Garland to his cardboard crown and they both sat crooked on his shaggy head. Isn't it gorgeous buddy. uh-huh said pickles breaking through the snow like a newborn penguin. He shook himself from tip to tail wiggling and sending snowflakes flying. The A little Chihuahua was dog king's royal assistant but how much assistance he provided was up for debate. Easy for you to say Your Highness. sinus is right. You're tall and you have snow privilege. Dog Kings scratched at one year. And then the other relocating more than a a few families of fleas and what is no privilege. Well it's simple when you squat to pee. Your rile but doesn't as to the ground. If I was meant to be in the calls I'd have more for my great aunt. Norman now was a hairy dog. Looked like a wig. On a mission auto swear dog king laughed and pulled pickles out of the snow lifting him by the scruff of the neck. Like a mother would a puppy. He sat his shaking friend in his favourite flowered bike basket. It was propped up on some crates up and out of the snowy drifts. I will take curve it dog king said and then he started digging on one side of the alley. His big shaggy pause moved mounds of snow with every scoop. Come on in said Don King. The digging is fine. Oh boy said Rambo leaping in and out of the snow bouncing on his paws on mcgibbin ticket revving up. I'M GONNA tunnel straight to Australia over here. Snow Rambo eventually stopped fighting the snow and started helping dog king. More dogs talks began to trickle in and some help dig kicking snow wildly and taking the occasional frenzied bite. Still Shivering I thought it was going to be more and more dogs arrived and dog. King took his seat on his throne tongue. Long lulling and snow stuck all in his coat making him look like a mangy polar bear or maybe a cloud that got into the garbage. So ooh what's on the royal scheduled. Today he asked this morning work decorating the alley pickle said it's going to be so pretty perfect and then the party. Yes party lights. Pickles started to a shake with excitement his little body trembling like a snowflake in the wind and the stuff and the square. Sweet Georgia Brown. The squeakers can't wait to sink my teeth into a good Christmas squeaker center. I've been so good I've been the goodness by Don King smiled and greeted the rest of the dogs as they arrived. Some live nearby like dog king pickles and others had homes around the city but they all came for the holiday party. Everyone was especially excited because this year for the first time they were all getting together. Early to decorate rambos giant logs started the pile but it was only the beginning. Pickles Nichols and Annie dragged in a mostly Green Christmas tree. Broadway brought him minora with mismatched candles. One of which looked suspiciously like a hotdog. Other other wrecks brought candles of his own and Luke the golden doodle brought a small drum that he had chewed up only a little just around the edges on and on they came laden with holiday supplies or food or both there were down. Nations with decorations. Pekingese steeping steeping. Tease retrievers Corgis in oodles. rotties and Beagles and poodles. There were Matz as big as reindeer and Mutt so small they could could fit in a gift box. King patted down the alley to where a group was talking. Garland and Crown wobbling atop his royal head. He accepted did a mouthful and apple and knows full of hot broth from Broadway and stood with his friends. So what's with that. Big Log brought sugar pie. The Saint Bernard asked Rambo. That's a yul log. Rambo replied my mom's. Take me to the woods every year and we burned in one with a bunch of their friends. Altogether I get to chew sticks and last year I almost caught a squirrel. Muhammad Ali vs George Foreman: The Rumble in the Jungle

"Here's Monte coming across the Robe Muhammad Ali war while he trained for his famous rumble in the jungle against George Foreman. The Robe is a reminder of the political and cultural context of the Times made this one of the most important sporting and entertainment events of the Twentieth Century Tree back in Smithsonian storage would looks like an unassuming. Terry cloth training rogue with simple black lettering says Muhammad Alley and above is his signature so little frayed at the edges here a little yellow represents an icon and a legend who was the greatest that sports has ever produced here comes early. You can see in their very calm. It's age against you. They've got these two American African American boxers George Foreman Muhammad Ali is he lost his title Losses Bertel. Yes he was trying to jump to the current heavyweight boxing champion. The odds were stacked against L. E. Right out of gate because he was older form and had was undefeated formidable opponent Yasser when I'm meet this man if you think the world was surprised when when Nixon resigned wait allow with forms and in terms of the actual the fight in Zaire how did that come about it was with Don King I think they had connections with the people in Zaire and thought this would be like this great news sort of mass spectacle that would elevate interest just in not only the fight but also the nation of Zaire and also like a you know they had this big concert and James Brown in addition tend to be a major sporting event. The rumble in the jungle was also a major musical event James Brown. was there be king was there. The spinners were there this global spectacle well that was none other than legendary boxing promoter. Don King Jitney Super John's they come into one fold and do one thing six thousand miles from home that was blackness that was distributed to accept blackness to help platelets trust practice and into associated separate blackness. We all citizens of the world. It ain't about us being we WANNA be against. Nobody cares about us saying that we for each other so that there was this celebration aberration connecting African culture with African American poultry that both celebrated and exploited in some ways in order to get people excited about the fight by the time that was kind of a new concept but in terms of rumble in the jungle considered one of the most important sporting events at twentieth century. Why do you think that was no long run. There's a lot of big events but they don't always hold up so you have this huge audience championship fight that was like incredible years the Ali Lee story itself and I'll ease rope widow finish to that fight where you got let himself get punched basically and tricked form in and new yet one shot right and was able to accomplish it and that was huge. Ali's rope a dope finish was the key to his victory. He let himself get backed up against the ropes then used his arms to block as many a forms punches as he could once foreman was worn out. Ali made his move. We'll get into rope-a-dope put up a few minutes but just no it was all about outsmarting his younger opponent. Mohammed Ali dancing around the national anthem. I mean I know that like for myself growing up in a Muslim family and my parents grabbing India in the sixties and you know all the fact that he was this outspoken black Muslim. I think there are a lot of Muslims around on wall who sort of took ownership of him in some ways you know like he's one of us and I just remember as a kid the idea of sort of giving giving the middle finger to colonialism and the oppression by not going fighting in Vietnam. Why should I go and fight the White Man's man's war. What have they done for me as a black American so I think there was a real resonance about this fight being in Africa of all places right. I I think if it had been in America I don't think it would have had the same impact sure right yeah. The international scope of it was important and you know he won three lost at one three times james the belt so like that kind of like just adds to this kind of legacy stature that he had also so smart and funny he we know how to use his controversy to kind of help his bank account as well as the bugles fighting so. I think all around just like really is remarkable the term that he's worth remarking upon because he so

S. charge and I know it's a B. S. charge because whenever the cops wanted to harass me an arrest me they couldn't figure out a charge the look to sergeant Sarge would say one of the structure of government administration and I would see what the hell does that mean well give me an example of what you had done to receive that charge standing in front of a police officer questioning him his it far do you to do what he was doing which was trying to lock me up exchanging words it is the it is a charge with you going to court generally the judge looks at the assistant district attorney dependent on the Berlin says you're kidding me is this is all you got on the guy anything he says it cut him loose that said he was held open not cut him loose time Sir did have a lot of you stay out of trouble so they've arrested this one person who was allegedly a gang member who is seen dumping a bucket of water and we don't know if this is going to be a serious charge or not serious when I was in any gradations of a soul I mean this assault this is also in the video in Harlem not only with a dousing the cops will water when they were making a bona fide address and they had the guy down on the squad car you know on the hood of the squad car but the guy came up and then hit him with the plastic the the plastic bucket yeah that's a soul I mean I I don't understand this but then again it's gotten so bad with the missing in action nature of police commissioner o'neill they now you have heads of the union saying you know nearly been a lap dog for the mayor who's responsible for this maybe it's your time to goal Sayonara and is another back in the mayor the rank and file has lost confidence in them and it's time that you resign I think in the interest of the department it's time to go I mean I I I I I don't know what else what else could be done at this point I think that it seems to me and I've spoken with some of my friends who are police officers here in New York City actually right around here right around the precinct here and they have no they have absolutely no faith in o'neill and they also feel that their lives are being put in danger because of the situation but they blame at least the ones that I talked to ultimately build Lazio yeah but it's o'neill who should be visiting the precincts affected building up to around saying Hey look him maybe some cops and not ready for prime time they're not ready for the streets but I gotta tell you we got your back even ease been missing in action now could he be hill could he be undergoing an operation the likelihood of that is probably not because he won't he would be hearing something about yeah I think or could he be on vacation with his family which would really really be an embarrassment to suddenly not have anything to say it's a police commission or the most powerful well trained police department in the world and you'll like missing in action well unfortunately let's say that he is on vacation we have no idea this would be a situation where you are paid you are you are given the responsibility of being the in charge of the biggest most important most critical police department in the world world and come back from vacation and you would have thought that the mayor with the state in New York City yesterday because this has become such an explosive issue in he was aware Washington DC campaigning for the presidency he had the hoods he had the goal to try to **** rushes way into that press conference and announce with Jon Stewart and some of our elected officials that finally the nine eleven victims compensation bill named after hours had passed you mean this is the same guy that just chose to go and get a Cup of coffee at Israel his favorite little ad copy clutch place in park slope after he worked out instead of going to the event where they dedicated a some certain set a certain area by one world trade that's that's unbelievable and children to her credit said now you have nothing with this let you in he said I don't want to speak well okay you don't want to speak of the mayor of New York City the mayor of New York City is getting
