"Brown on the line. Don Brown is a former U. S. Navy JAG officer, author of 15 Books Love and The latest is I wonder what happened here, Call sign extortion. 17 the shoot down of Seal Team six. That was and now there's a film based on his book. It's called the four Fallen angel. It's at Salem now dot com Dumb Welcome to my show. And it's so great to be here appreciate the great work you're doing. So it's a special honor and privilege for me to be able to discuss these 30 Americans. Maybe seals 17 of them lost their lives on your show. God bless you for having me and I thank you. Well, well, that's very touching. Thank you. So obviously bring my listeners up to speed. What exactly is this about? Fallen angels are very dramatic and emotional film about an American military helicopter called extortion 17, which was shot down 10 years ago. This coming Friday, August 6 2011. Which marked the largest loss of life for the United States in the Afghan war, and also the largest loss of life in the history of our Navy seals, and we lost 30 Americans on board that aircraft, including six Seal Team six had 17 members on board that aircraft and, um and this shoot down occurred just 96 days. You know, just about three months after our navy seals are taking out Osama bin Laden and the shooting down occurred Under some very, very questionable circumstances appears to be a very large military cover up, but there's really I think there's a dual pronged tragedy here. Want these guys? Their names had never even been learned, let alone forgotten. And so I think this film for an angel is going to want to bring some light to the nation about these 30 heroes who have who have been lost. Mr. Cacophonous chorus of Foolish soundbites from liberal media. You know, you hear the phrase say that say his name's there. How about saying their names 30 Americans losing their lives and one swap, including 17 members of Seal team 63 months after bin Laden is killed by Navy seals, and they announce Bounty on Navy seals announced bounty on Navy seals are the current gentleman who, apparently in the White House, Mr Biden just two days after there has been an agreement for words about the former Defense secretary Bob Gates to keep the names of the identity of the Americans who took bin Laden now to keep it a secret to keep it quiet. Biden goes to a hotel in Washington, D. C. It announces that SEAL team the Navy seals have taken out bin Laden as soon as Biden did that it can't control his mouth. A bounty was placed on The heads of the Navy seals and in this tangy river Valley and Wardak province, Afghanistan and the 97 days after the bin Laden mission, there had been three attacks against special operations helicopters flying in that valley and heavily in test infested Taliban valley. Yet the rules of engagement still prevented. Obama's rules of engagement still prevented us from using what we call pre suppression fire to fire into an area into a landing zone. Before our helicopters landed. This chopper was hanging in the air. Strangely for 10 minutes, it was we lost communication for 10 minutes and hung in the air for seven after it should have been on the ground should have only a 10 minute flight. Making itself a huge, loud, roaring target for Taliban on the ground. The shoot down was not even announced by the American administration. It was announced by Karzai. President Karzai announced the next morning that had been a shooting down. And we saw from the British and French press, quoting sources inside the Karzai administration that the Taliban had been tipped on the flight. There are many, many unanswered questions, including what happened to helicopters. Black boss we've gotten Multiple reports. You know, if you think Fauci is bad flip flopping about you know whether you need a mask or not, You go back and read the military report on having the black Boston this case and almost looks like Fauci looks intelligible. Almost not quite. But they first said the black box, which had a, which had a cockpit voice report recorder was washed away in a flood. And they maintain that story after sending path on his in to look for for three days, the path out of commander said the first time you could never find the black box military told the fandoms that washed away in a flood. It was in 2011. Then in 2014, they change their tune and said, Well, the black box never had. And the helicopter never had a black box to begin with. We since had Palace come forward, saying, Yes, it did. It did have a black Boston had a flight data recorder and divorce data. Cockpit voice recorder. You see, Dennis One thing I didn't really realize. Right. Hold on. I'm actually mesmerized. There's no question I'm watching. "And I'm thinking, where's Jay? Oh, he's not listening. He's not he didn't even suit up for the game. Then early in the game. They card off David long. Who is their best quarterback will now you got big problems. And then early in the third quarter. They card off Devon Bush who is their best Blitzer by far in probably their best defense. Reggie bush. Reggie Bush look at what you've lost from the defense. But my problem with Don Brown is you have to try to blitz in. If you can't if win a vich is going nowhere fast and respond. Gary's just sitting in stance. The whole game somebody has to fly in sin the corner since somebody they didn't blitz to my I one time and you're going to get annihilated in they did. So I had only one problem with Jim Harbaugh. Why he doesn't coach the defense at all? He let's let's Don Brown. Do it on today. Much offensively. Okay. If you told me going into the game that shape Patterson wouldn't be able to play the fourth quarter and Michigan would go for four hundred yards and thirty nine points. I'd say thank you. God. I got this. Are you kidding me? They scored thirty nine points and they Maryland put up fifty four six on the your enough. That's enough to win this game with that defense. You asking skill Bela's. If you score fifty four to six on the yards win win four hundred yards. Thirty nine points. I had one problem with Jim Harbaugh when they tied the score late in the first half at. I should've been tidied should ride with two they went for to tie. It was going to be twenty one to twenty. I have why would you do that? Because you're going to kill your momentum. If you miss because it felt so good it felt like, oh, they're right in this game right at that point. You were sweating bullets wherever you are watching this game. I had had to go to the grocery store with the tars. Tars? Yeah. Wouldn't Dr J got a big old boss tight watch. My khaki a gift you give them khaki pants won't be for rolling in the in the Alabama invitation of awful known as bubbly. So I thought shape Patterson three quarters. He played played really. Well, that's about that's about who he is. He's that I told you is not a pro quarterback. But he's the best quarterback. Jim Harbaugh is ever had in in his time at Michigan. Okay. So so again, thirty nine points that work and again, he didn't even play the fourth quarter. But if you're not gonna blitz and you're going to sit back and let little David Alavi just run wild on you. He's he's a true freshman who had caught five balls the whole year to urban credit. He unleashed David Alavi in this game and each one of those crossing routes and he gets he can just flag it along. Do they rerun? You see what's happening was tracing that truck he was like, I get it. That's a shame to give you the of number four team in the country. Do give up sixty two when you talk about you never want teaming yards allow. Puffy? What about the review to that? Last day got cancelled chase winter which is hurt and tried to play in couldn't and down Bush, David long Gaza, shake gone. If you tell me all five of those aren't going to show if you tell me they're gonna get zero sacks zero pressures. It's going to be a route coach Sabin doesn't make those excuses. I mean, the only problem I had with Harbaugh's at halftime ongoing my coordinator as much as he respects him..

"Right. Maguire is at the plate. Mark mcgwire's brothers played for the Expos. So I go on I go ahead. What do you think? Danny. I said I can bring in Pell. He goes coach, I'll get this guy. And then I'll just give you this one. And then I'll be good. I'm like, all right. Big. Talk back to the dugout. And by the time, I set my foot in dugout the ball around the world. And it has not landed. In a way. Yeah. So that was that was the end of it right there. And then I got humbled because we got back from stock Ville, Mississippi, which were the regionals were and the next day. I was coaching. My son's little league team. How did you ever have a chance to be the most famous baseball player at Yale George Bush, George Bush? I did not. Oh, no. Nope. Didn't have that. Pleasure. But he did some great pictures around when he was the first base. Yes. Yup. Met Ron dialing. And he he pitched the I didn't know that. Yeah. So it was a good experience. They asked me, you know, you can stay with it. I said, no, thanks. As a long year. How much were you the pump up the guys versus the Xs and the os when it came to baseball? Wait a minute. I see your sellers. See your signals. Would you go with? Give it indicator strategy with this. I don't even remember that the indicator or any of those low to go, but I was good on defense. First and third situation bunt road pace. That was my baby. Now, the pitching thing. I just kind of. Did you have a pitching coach at a guy in? But Jimmy White gone. It was a young guy who's about thirty pitched in college. He was a really bubbly guidance. Coach I think we gotta go get him. I reduce go. Let him go. No, we had a we had we had we had a heck of a time. It really never the old days in little league the bunch signal. Melt this belt belt give it to it. Right. What the sleeve was steel and hit you hit the. You had more complicated signals to that. Yeah. But at the same time, you know, you know, I'll tell you what very difficult the most difficult part of that year was when you coach third base in that gap shot and a guy coming from. I d you hold them. Don't you? Hold them. You know, that was always the toughest when I got a will. I'm willing to say you were very aggressive. It's not good though when the guys in and it comes into home plate in the catcher. Gotcha. No. It's good good experience. That seems like yesterday it was nineteen ninety two Jack Harbaugh coached the sheriff's all-stars. Now who somewhere we never went new. We we have pretty deep you went to the finals tournament. Then we we got we have we wanted to Babe Ruth. Yes. Babe Ruth and in John Harbaugh and the mimic brothers. I mean, the older brothers and they had baskins Robbins team. If you remember that was that was the cloudy team. So John decided he would join the Baskin Robbins t because they have never the old Astro uniforms yet multicolored, awesome, jackets, they got jackets fourteen and fifteen or fifteen and sixteen but they had all the best sixteen year olds in in Arbor. And we we took we took some of the second tier sixteen year olds. And then some of the some fifteen year olds and we did have a pitcher. Our pitcher Jim Phelps we sent him out there. We were you know, had to get you had to get at least one run and you'd win the game sometimes it needed to. And that's that's what happened. It gets Baskin Robbins. We we lost one to nothing in in the Hague. Homerun that game too. When we lost one nothing. I don't think anybody out. I mathis. Two and Jim Phelps? He's living down in lakeland Florida now, but he went to bowling green. He was an offense hunter all conference punter at bowling green played it selene height socks sign with the White Sox and played with them. And then you heard his arm somehow basket rabbits, didn't get him. We he was a little bit under the radar. He was over at selene highschool and Baskin Robbins head like all the best players from pioneers and great recre-. Jack, Don, I know we're running a little later, but. Cheated..

"Oh, we didn't have any of that ones and twos and twelve and twenty one. I'm with you. You know, it's amazing. Is you always taught the pro formation first and the twins formation second, which is out of the two backs. I mean, sometimes you look at that with our guys and they go. Thank god. We're Michigan because we start. And I think it's I think it's a real benefit to us as well. Because sometimes the physical part of football gets, you know, put on his side track where here. Fit. We start with the physical part and go the other place. I I can see these young men, you know, come here to university going to get education worthwhile education. They're going to be exposed to this kind of defense. And if their goal is for professional football. I cannot imagine a place that they'd wanna go other than the university of Michigan to get those two great accomplishments academics and an opportunity in the NFL sniff that out for me, isn't it that Al for me send that to everybody tomorrow, great place. It's for sure what what an opportunity for young people really is unbelievable. He is the number one defense, according to the country number one defense all those things. But he's also as my office is right next is the number one customers of demos donuts that was there's no doubt about All right. My that. notes because that was where I wanted to go talked about donuts here on the show in the past. And apparently you've as good as you're coordinating game is apparently your doughnut game is better true nutrition value. Are you discounted there? Do they does he get do? You get a discount. All I know is when when when the guys go over and pick up the package, and it comes back. There's always apple fritters. I don't know if we pay for. And we call it varsity box. You know, there's a JV box and a varsity bucks, you always get a varsity box when you go to de MOS. So on occasion, you know. He's got that nice breakfast sandwich. It's really hard to do. Give up my secret. We may be able to get demos to be a sponsor of our podcast. Absolutely. Gotta be careful when you go into my wife goes into on occasion, he'll bite you. Fight. Yeah. You have to have tough skin going with them properly to order site. Kind of like the Seinfeld. Yeah. The suit and blimpy burger on Donald Pergola. Pergola at the same thing for you watching the game on Saturday Saturday evening, Don, I want you to know the entire world the entire country. Now knows of your baseball coaching experience, Yale University, they mentioned one year that you that you coast there. But it wasn't just a year. I mean, it was a championship fear. I I know the story but tell the story how you became the baseball coach at Yale University. I got a call from the legendary Karm codes who was my boss. He said, hey, you gotta come back. The wants to see I'm like what I do something wrong and recruit goes, I don't know. He's got a combat. So I I was at Cape Cod. So I drove back. It was in the summer. And when I got to his office at Woodson who's a lawyer up in Maine who became our athletic director. And he said you're going to be the baseball coach. I'm like, sir. I'm the defensive coordinator in football. He goes. Yeah. I know I know I'll take care of you. You know, we'll we'll give you a little bump. But they need you more than you. Oh, really had a talented group. You know was a group great group to coach I think eight of positional players drafted now. There's like what I you know, there's like fifty rounds or something crazy and Bornet major league baseball. So a lot of those guys got drafted had some good really good pitching. And we just had a heck of a run. We've started out in the west coast. We beat the university of Washington out there beat Brigham Young. Then came back to the east and. Just got on a roll and won the league went to the NCAA as our first game was against Clemson. And they had Kris Benson pitch for the Mets for a long time. And he beat us five to four then we'd beat Nicol state and Louisiana fourteen afford. Now, I say that this reason with down to nothing in the eighth inning to UCLA bases loaded. Two outs. I gotta lefty on a hill..

"He really got off. You know, she'll coaches talked about, you know, he really got off, you know, every time he turned around and they'll call on them for targeting. And you know, I think that's made him a just as a player. So it's taken him some time to kind of get his feet on the ground and playing at at the level, we expect, but he certainly back, you know, playing hard and fast right now. And again, you know, he he'll play half the field. He'll play the middle third. You know, he'll spin and play the tight end. You know, he'll get into the box versus you know, certain sets and be one of the three linebackers in the box. So you know, he's he's a versatile guy. And. And he certainly plays at high level and looted to Devon who not only has the middle linebacker responsibility. He has the overall responsibility for checks in the fronts and all those things, and you know, Josh Ross, Devon Gill. We've been kind of rotating we started early in the air. And I said to him, you know, one of you guys are going to separate and we'll play you more. And really hasn't happened. They've kind of both come along together and both have their own strengths. And you know, I think it's a good thing to say is that how you pronounce it. Josh. And how how do you play him? You know, we just let him go. He's very good pass rusher. He's still working to be a linebacker in in takes it. Seriously works at its craft builds his toolbox every day, but he's a blessed. Pash russia. He's fast. He has a tremendous first and second step. He's also very slippery. IT's and once in a while, call them Gumby, people don't probably don't even remember who Gumby was I do. But you know, he's he can really bend and he can be six inches off the ground on one play. And you know, jab your whip you with his hands on the next play but his purse snap. You know, in terms of you know, the impact that he has personality is is really high. And you know, we're just trying to take advantage of the things he does. Well, do you change fronts with him? I see some odd. Sometimes you're in an even and see kind of the in rusher. Most of the time or and we'll you know like two weeks ago, you know, he had a really good inside Russia against Penn State. That was really good, but his his forte is get him on the edge. And let them go and good things are going to happen. A lot of guys on your defense versatile. Just in general. We see you lineup different guys inside or outside. You've used quip as a spy you just like guys that are versatile. So you can do as many different things I think was at sixty five looks she talked about a few weeks ago. Someone you'll be prepared somewhere in that in that facility on week to week basis. Now some weeks it's different than others. You know, I went back going back and looking at Rutgers we only use Twenty-three looks. But you know, they were very set near ways on third down. They rent seven slips screens, you know, which is all the swing. And so that you know that was kind of a a small third down menu. So we got small, you know, it all depends what you're going to do. But you gotta you know, coach always says. That you know. Hey, Moore's more be creative. You know? Make sure you have disposable I made a big mistake a year ago, not having a piece at out disposal and it hurt. So try to keep that in my mind. Moore's more y'all definitely say that many times on this podcast, Don round draws more cards than any coach I've ever seen doing with the oh, still depend the and the white cloud. You put them on their yellow for the tight ends reds for the wide. Receivers blues for the tailback in black is for the fullback, not many black winds anymore, but back in the old days. I mean back in back way way back. I mean, we had no oranges in greens. I mean, they were just a center two tight ends. And I four Mason guy split out. And that was it. None of this formation adjustment..

"There helped me on. I'm Gary more. What a what a classy guy, great guy. And he he was brought the team into Michigan for that great upset in. What was it two thousand seven was the next year? The next day the. The next game. Goodness. Completely in the tank. I remember. Yeah. Because they said that was the game against you guys. And then the very opening the next year dots done the brand does so many great things this past game though. I mean, really no the thing that really highlights what kind of coach done is stay in game adjustment. I mean, not even having to get over to the sideline and chalk up to the defense. You know, what the adjustment is going to be? He's already got the call. He's already got the the way to to make the adjustment. You know on the on the very very next call. And I mean it's game after game. It's halftime after Taff time. It's just with nummy repetition. And we saw this past week. We get the they ran the they get the long run. And and then just made he made the adjustment made the made the call and that got got hit in the head the next time. They ran it for for zero gain. I mean, it's most coaches can't do that. Most in a lot of. Yeah. The end game the end game adjustments to see it from the silent to not even the advantage of seen it from the box or seeing it on video or seeing you know, some coaches say they've got to check the tape. They'll get back to you. But there's a fallacy in some ways people look at your kind of defense. They just think it's sick. Hey, just pick up. We're just going to sic them. And sick of I think there's more coaching done in your situation because out of position not proper leverage big plays or there to happen unless well-coached real you hundred percent right coaching when you're playing you have to be gap sound, and you really have to be gaps on when you send them and the overlap from the second area so important in their fix because like we tell those guys to one thing when you come to Michigan DB's get their hands dirty. They got a tackle they got to run in hit. They gotta fit the run game. And on the flip side of that coin. And they know they're gonna play a lot of man coverage, but the front guys got to get their hands dirty and rush the passer. So it's an eleven man deal for sure and you hundred percent, right. When you when you blitz, and you gotta make sure you hit you fits otherwise. You're not gap sound they're going to be big runs. And in the secondary man to man, the ball's going to be caught. And it's man to man, I mean, you don't have sown where Levin guys are looking at the ball and run into. I mean in the secondary not run into it. I mean, it is man to man their off somewhere doing their thing. You have got to have sure hands and be able to tackle we we. We're blessed. We really are. We've got three guys at corner. Brandon Watson, David long, liberty hill. Those three guys playing a high level Embry Thomas is coming out of his show. Coach's using them on offense as well. And into special teams. So you just see in his confidence begin to rise. And you know, obviously had a big interception to end it on Saturday. So he certainly coming into his own in the way. Josh Mattel us in Taibbi kennel plan. Brad Hawkins gutters. Got his start this week in back in his home state. So, you know, we really feel good about the way we're playing back there and. You know, obviously, those guys got a lot of responsibility, you know, in terms of not only the run game. But the past game was well talk a Devon Bush at middle linebacker in the front away. They rush in the secondary. But those other linebackers, you know, the, the fiber, and oh, yeah, I'm back or play has been outstanding. Yeah, click Hudson..

"Nine team, but with talent and kind of got rolling, but but midway through the year, we had a big loss to uconn forty four to forty one, you know, and he kind of hey, you know, we really good when we pressure ios quarters. And all that at that point. I just went back and kind of reevaluated it and went more into the pressure stuff and just kind of kept admit a little bit simpler in terms of structure on the back end. But really emphasize, you know, getting after the quarterback and run blitzing on first and second down, and you. You know, it ended up we never lost again at year, we ended up winning the national title. So that's probably the year that it kind of took took a life of its own. And then from there ever since I just kind of you know, Ben that way keep bringing the pressure, and I'm sure that's one of the things that jumped out to off the page to you is how much pressure they bring when he was when you're looking at the film of the places he's been. So I'm sitting with coach during the interview process, and I, you know, interview. What's it gonna take me to come here? But I said coach I think about sixty five percent pressure. He goes down. I really think it's more like eight. Eighty. Jumped out to me. I was just everything he'd ever done, everything eyebrows. Ever touched just turns to gold. I mean, every place we'd go BBC cO, Maryland, go UMass his head coaching everything was the best. They've ever had. You know, an even as my dad pointed out at Yale when he first year coach the baseball team first time that the baseball team ever went to the to the World Series. And when you were head coach down, what did where did you we on the off? I'd never asked you that before offense aside defensive would you do I did the defense and special teams that was my deal. I had an I named coordinator on defense and named a special teams guy. But you know, I did punt team did the kickoff team and ran the defendant hired an offense coordinator, that's kind of how I went. And that was a that was the first team ever got to the playoffs. Right. Well. Northeastern. Yes. My my third year at northeastern we went ten and two and the fourth year we were eight and four and then I went to UMass back to UMass as the head coach when Mark Whipple went to the Steelers as the quarterbacks coach so had a good five year run and we lost to Appalachian state in two thousand six twenty four twenty one with the money Edwards a quarterback. He was really good player. Yes. He was I've seen him in person in this city and know exactly how fast that that guy is a football player. You wouldn't you? Jack Harpo never went never went head to head. Did you play against played Appalachia state in in the tournament? Pretty good. No right to tight ends and the old one back and they ran that zone play and coach down..

"Don Brown is joining us here on each day, the Harbaugh's podcast and coaches about a week ago that you wrote a jingle, and you say you saying jingle you set down Brown. You said at all. So you you add liberal you wrote a jingle and then also called the king of defense accord eaters, and I think that Michigan fans will go along with the titles that you've. Yeah. That was that was. That was from the I think it was Budweiser, right? Yeah. There's an old Budweiser. When you sit Budweiser you set it all you sit Brown, you said it L king of defensive coordinators, just like the king of ears, right? That's right. I can't say I wrote it. Adaptations ad-lib that attention. Put in the appropriate words that fit for for coach Tom Brown who said he joins us here now, and I would say that a few years ago when you need it to go out and find a defensive coordinator, you did that open. Search you want to find the best. And I'm pretty confident you think that you've found the best in this guy sitting next to us, right? No question about it. I know I've toned Don this love, I've said this public or whatever. But. We had the defensive coordinator job open and do it. I like to do I go to the internet and just look up the top defenses in the country and see, you know, who's coordinating those defenses. And then seeing you know, who I could get you know, usually like to start right at the top at number one and dons dons defense was number one in the country who was coaching at Boston College. That's why I started. And the other thing I do is just I reach out the people in the profession and just ask them who they think would be a good fit. And and there was two coaches that I really have the utmost respect for that one was Bob Sutton who gave me two names and Don was was one of the two names. So folk grade about that also was talking to Bill Belichick at the time because I was hiring their their trainer who. Who is Dave GRA Neo to come here? And. I asked I asked Bill Pella check and get defensive coordinator opening and anybody that you would recommend it'd be really interested in know who that would be. And he was like, I I don't know. I don't know. I don't know these guys. It's about some good language to Bill Belichick language. I don't know these guys you could probably talked to some of the other guys. They'll know. But here's I don't watch Boston College the other night on TV who's ever coordinate coordinated net defense, they're doing good. Good recommendations. So Where'd you? And Dr bullets is one of the names that you you get the called. You're a guy that kind of tucked away in the east coast for your entire even a year. Coach in the baseball team come here to the midwest. According to hear what are you? What are your thoughts? Now, you're a few years into being here. How much you like our little hamlet here in the middle of the country. Believable city really is my wife, and I enjoy it thoroughly. And you know, it's kind of reminds me of an eastern suburb. Schist a great place to live. You know? Great shopping, great great places downtown eat, and you know, vibrant, you know, what's exciting. So the doctor blitz part. I know people have asked me this all the time. We're not sure where that game. I'm curious where did the over the years, you've accumulated these different bullets ideas blitz packages where did like along the years different guys? You've picked them up from guys you coached under some of the people that you've worked with well pack in ninety eight I was with Mark Whipple. When we had gone from Brown University, which ninety league school out in Providence, Rhode Island to UMass, and we inherited it to a.

"He was going to break the record. Captain weren't you guys get ghetto plaque? If you're gonna present Johnny at the high that thing real quick after the game. Yep. That's true. That's true. Yeah. I remember I fumbled turn the ball over in that game. And yeah, it's not a good feeling. That's not a good feeling being a senior in losing your last game in Michigan stadium. So I think our guys they've been really focused. They practice really good. I mean, they choose to play at a really high level each and every week, you know, we're just we just going to be tough ballgames. So it's a big big challenge. But also just going back to the the game against Rutgers. I do want to point out that the shape. Patterson was was phenomenal in the ball game. I mean, some of the throws he made whatever you asks you to do he does. Whether it's run the football. I'm self hand off zone. Re quarterback driven runs outside inside. He does throws the ball from the pocket. Really? Well, and. Throws the ball out of the pocket. Always good as anybody. I mean, I really think he was drafted by the Rangers this past off season. He's infielder. You could really see can't you dead? I mean, some of those some of the ways he gets out of the pocket and he's able to the Turkish box work his body. The hips the shoulders doesn't matter if he's thrown to the right or throwing the left equally. Well, either side there were three throws that he made since you're bringing this up though, I think it was the third down he scrambles left, and he finds Donovan nice soft throw a completely turned back to make the throw. This the roll out to the left where he hits Donna in for the touchdown. And then the scramble all over the place where he eventually finds Oliver Morton for the touchdown three very different plays in throws and all terrific and all on the early early in the game third-down hit Donovan on the sideline. Each of those throws was put in the exact perfect place. The one that Donovan we threw it back to Donovan. In the us go into his left threw it back to a wide open. Donovan and that was amazing the way he talked his body on that one. But the accuracy of the throat Oliver Martin with throat Donovan on the sideline on the third down earlier in the game to go into his right now. It's just I mean, that's that's high high level athleticism, one of the real arm town youthful passes was to Zach entry when he threw it. I think it was third down situation, and he kind of seem route. Yeah. And he put it out in front of Zach. And he went that laid off those long arms and caught that ball out in front of him for a big big third down. Yeah. In fact, it was defensive holding was called on the play. It was that contested. It was it was a I was a tight catch tight tight throw. No question about it. But yeah, he's been great in the receivers. Again. The receivers continue not to drop the ball whether they're wide receiver backs or tight ends. I think we've had three or four drops on the season. And that was not easy catching the ball. I catch a lot of balls pre-game pride myself on dropping zero. This this past game. I draft to in the pre game. And our receivers drive non end again. Versa. You know, a guy that Sean McCue is that McEwen that youngster may be as good a blocker. And so I've seen in a long time. I'm not just talking to university of Michigan. I'm talking about block or not just tight ends talking about offense of linemen and fullbacks. He is doing an outstanding job for you. He is maybe our best blocker talked about how he box ends bucks defense. Alami plex linebackers, you plex safeties. He's got real instinct. I mean there are times when he's blocking up in the whole around the edge and his back is to the runner. He doesn't know whether runners going he senses that he knows he's been coach. So well, also by shero more is doing unbel-. I know you love Sharon more as a as a coach. And what a rising star..

"And and what have I use of the time out with nine seconds. So you can kick the field goal that only takes up four seconds at four five seconds at the most. So you make the field go. Now, you kick it off again put down there and we switched sides. So So unions. you. And we won decidedly. Go ahead. Carry my water. That's that's two or three references of genius. That's genius. Yes. That's really, that's really genius. And this is all well documented. I mean, anybody can anybody could check this. This isn't just a story. Right. This is well, I was there for the Indiana state game. I remember that. I remember listening to the game when you're playing middle. Mary. I remember the scratch the pundits the so-called experts that were announcing that game. What in the heck is Jack Harbaugh doing here? He is elected to kick a field goal on third down. I don't I don't know if I really liked this. Call bill. Though, I don't. Well, you know in the old years ago to snowball game between Michigan Ohio state pundit on first down. They punted on second down the punisher wearing like coaches gloves to the so-called. But there was a strategy because sometimes you just need to play the field position game in at work for you the elements the elements and didn't that game end nine hundred fifty one wasn't it. It ended on a block punt. I mean. I believe that is the case. So it turned into a very strategic scenario there. So you get the win coach you move on from the Rutgers game. We'll talk a little bit about that. When we get the Dom in here to talk more football with him, but you've been to Indiana. And that's the next game in Celso senior day. It's always that little more motion. Right. Especially for the guys that that last time to do you go into the stadium for a game. The last time you're playing there. You know, you have more games. But it's so the last one here, how do you keep the guys in chick? You know, a lot of family in town. You guys have pre-game festivities a lot of things that go on a lot of distractions for that day. Well, first of all, we we know Indiana's really good play to overtime games with Indiana in the last three meetings. Two three were overtime. One was ten close ten point game. Here there book. Good ball couple. We've been watching them play similar opponents leading up to this game. So they're really good on defense. They they're they're good at fixing their problems and make they've got a lot of calls to do that with. And festively they score a lot of points that get the ball downfield. I really liked their young quarterback. And they're they're big receivers. I mean, it's gonna be a challenge. Backs at run hard to always played well in the offense of line. So we know that and. I'm going to tell my story of my last game in Michigan stadium was nineteen Eighty-six against the Minnesota. Gophers and Ricky foggy and we were undefeated at the time and the the came in and and beat us. I want to say it was twenty two seventeen or twenty three to twenty three point loss at the pope Platt game that you guys had to the big Johnny got in the plaque chip low Miller kicked the game winning field goal who got a plaque bowl is going to get a certain a certain number win..

"I was I was thinking back to the to the Indiana state game. The thing you often do know situations, you think well, defer, choose defer, and certainly they're gonna take the ball. So you're going to get choice of the win. So you're gonna you're going to get it that way, but they don't have to once you defer. They can choose to do the same thing. So you could lose the opportunity of getting the win in the first quarter, and you got, but I guess you lose the one possession of getting it. I start the game or started the third quarter. But in this case, you didn't care, right. 'cause you scored three touchdowns in the first quarter. You didn't want the ball. I could you took advantage of. Here's the thing that come came up in that game. I thought about it was twenty one to seven halftime, right? Yes. And you you were going to get the ball coming out for the second show. They they could choose to kick with the wind and force you into the wind and them have the win or they could win the fourth or the fourth quarter. Most people take into four sport. But being down twenty one to seven I would have chosen to have the wind in the third quarter to get to try to make up some of that score rather than wait to the fourth quarter. Will you get another touchdown or two the games is that make any sense total sets it that's what they did. They kicked they kicked with the wind. Start to third quarter undecided. Done the same thing right in that position for sure done the same tight game. Then you make it gives you some gives us some room to pause. They hope it's closed, and then you get. Win in the fourth quarter and try to keep the game close in the third quarter in or could you have in theory said you know, what we're going to choose the wind or do you have to take the ball to start the second half? Or do. We could've kicked off the direction or it's the choice. Yeah. You have the choice to take the ball or the direction in which you wanna play the third quarter third quarter. So yeah, that was that was thinking about it and talked to some of the other coaches beforehand, and and none of them wanted to kick the ball off. None of them wanted to give up the ball twice. So went with the for. Yeah. And it works out for you guys. Obviously. Yeah. I was really happy when we won the toss. And and we deferred and then they took the balls. You know, we got the we got the cake and have it too. So that was that helped. But that choline toss is. You know, it's a it's a thing. One of the things that came up in two thousand and two we were in the national championship run. We had Murray state was in the first game of the tournament to four-game tournament. We played them in our place, and it was a bike of thirty five to forty a mile an hour wind, and we got the wind in the first quarter. I'm not sure exactly how we got it. But we had put twenty one points on the board with the win in the first quarter. And now we had the ball. And it was like there were like nine seconds left in the first quarter. We have the wind at our back. The balls had like the thirty five yard line is third and eight and third down. We kicked the field goal. So we kicked a field goal and make it and that makes it twenty four twenty one. Now, we flip sides, but we kicked it. So that we still. He said this to kick kicking off with the letters. I know I know you don't like to carry your own water. Put that that is one. That's a great decision right there. I remember that game third down the clock is is winding down. I mean, you could have run run another play on third down or you could use them out with nine seconds took..

"Some features not available in all states. And we're actually talking about a little bit beforehand where you actually have to think a little bit of strategy. When you go on the field pre game in the wind is blowing like it was at the game in New Jersey. Yeah, it was it was really blowing. It was blowing hard in one direction and. It was tough really tough throwing the ball in the one direction that we ended up throwing couple touchdowns three touchdown passes in the win shaved it into the wind. And it died down a little bit as the game went on. But not not much pre-game. I was harkening back to decision. My dad made when I was at a game, western Kentucky versus Indiana state, and it was really blowing hard and raining. The wind was blowing so much that the goalpost had to be was tipped over. And they had to get a stick. I remember and and put the uprights back up and my dad made the call on the winning the toss to elect to take the direction to kick off and take the direction, which you can do, you know, it's one of your choices when you win. The toy causes is is to kick off and in the direction, and they were up twenty one to nothing before the first quarter was over because the kicked off. Three and out. They punted. My dad got the ball back on the their thirty five yard wanting into the wind putting into the wind. Yeah. The kicked touchback brought it to the twenty three in out. They kick it from the twenty our line ended up being a fifteen yard net. Punt and the next one went to like the forty two. And then the next one went somewhere around the thirty eight and they punched in three quick quick touchdowns. And I don't throw the word genius around loosely, but that was appreciated. I thought about that pre-game..

There we go Jack Harbaugh. All right. I got another one for you weightlifting. All right much shorter sorta way to prior veg presser if you're a about some of the other some of the other lifts, I bet it it helps to I would think. So you don't want the longer arms to have to lock out on a bench press. That's good one. That's a great point there. We got a tweet here for hurling curling. Depends on you. The swimming. I don't know it takes a little bit of the. What you're doing gift some of the more precise? I dunno Canadian listeners can help us with that one. I think how about hockey. Yeah. How do you know about hockey MacKenzie? Let me get a headset on we're gonna die. This subject here long wings fans are good for hockey. I mean, you want good reach aren't always right on your tape. Right right on your tape. So you got right on you. Gotta be able to reach out there. You gotta grab it pulled back in hockey turn for your tape. How's your brother doing good? He's good. He's he's in Colorado. He's doing what he does best which is getting his they old body in front of ninety mile an hour so blocking shots left and right now, he's a body sacrificing kind of hockey player that not everyone's willing to do but dive in front of pucks and throw it out there and take some pucks the flesh can hurt. I always thought that one the one that they show the Kurds is when the guys at the blue line usually on the power play. Just see it where they the kick it back to the blue line guy whites up for that big slap. And then you see the guy, you know, he's got a light come out. He comes out just tall and thin traffic. Just knows he's trying to block the shot. Right. And that's but it takes a little courage. He did learn to cover his mouth now because he's three teeth down and the son of a dentist. Yeah. Daddy, tennis, which I think I think part of him died inside that day. And I don't know if we'll ever get back. But he he he has his front three teeth on his his top side. There are gone because he took a slapshot straight. Do they wait until after their hockey career before they put the implant? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Glands. He right now, he has a little retainer with three on it. But he, you know, he takes it out every time he goes to a restaurant, and he needs to ask for a cocktail napkin teeth out got a story about that. Wouldn't hockey was baseball. You were there. The first one came in from baseball Addy, fifty one another great show with Dan, Patrick and amazing. Jack, talk is always always nice to hear that. Then we got a tweet from Brady straightened Berger said had no idea there. Was a Harbaugh. And that of course, was your recruiting territory when you're when you're hurting visited there, and I don't know if I'm sure there's been other prospects come out of there. But archly stir may be the finest football prospect ever come out of that city. I would imagine we've got a tweet here from Kennedy Golo thirty said meet Sadie rose Golo born November six at four seventeen pm weighing in at seven pounds twelve ounces nineteen inches long included a picture, and Jim very importantly, he said and let your dad know an eighteen and a half inch. Nice. She again, she was nineteen inches long and an eighteen and a half inch wingspan. So that's all we need to stretch her out just a little more wingspan should be great. I guessing on the picture. Her fingers will be somewhat curled. He needs to get one side and get someone on the other side and stretch those fingers out so we get that on their their length. There's a question there's a question for you. What sport would it be better to have a shorter wingspan wrestling wrestling, I don't know that golf, maybe maybe maybe often these I think if you're really getting wingspan, and I've seen people with shorter arms. You know, be playing other sports, I think sinking soccer to soccer make a difference sock right signing pie. You've got to be more torquing your body to make an kick sharply through Keene crew, you'd want everybody the same. All right. Matt dudek.
