"With coach Kane his final year and in the final four first time ever against North Carolina that duke and North Carolina have never met in the tournament until tonight If all of those things were in a storyline trying to avenge the regular season finale of his coaching career in Cameron indoor when North Carolina beat him if this was the setup in a movie you'd be like oh my gosh you guys are trying too hard And yet this is the exact storyline in real life I love when stuff like that happens Yeah when Hollywood meets reality And look everything's on the line here It's the rematch of the home law coach case final Home game at duke and North Carolina would want nothing more Than to send him packing for the rest of his life That's right With an ale And no national no shot at the national championship I mean that for North Carolina is everything Advice Yeah you talk about just it's a tremendous rivalry We all know that But if you take it to the next level it would be North Carolina doing what you just said Not just ruining the regular season finale for duke and coach Kay's career But ruining his chances to win a national championship by beating him in the final four That would take the rivalry to another level That would be perfect If you're the blue Devils that is how you would want to end arguably one of the greatest coaches to coach college basketball You would want to end his career that way Our guy Don Brown right He's on the tar heels He's a duke fan Duke is a duke or North Carolina My bad My bad Don Brown Which makes zero sense but it's clear Zero sense I bet he's been with them for a long time No I got to remember we screwed up we're never going to speak to him about his allegiance to a team or anything Why Why We make sure I got it straight It's Miami hurricane's football Correct It's duke college basketball Great Houston Texans Correct It makes zero sense And the Lakers Correct And there's a story for everyone last month It's ridiculous No it's not No allegiance no net just how is it not allegiance All over the map Virginia doesn't have any Well they have college teams They do it No they don't And you blatantly ignored them I hate Virginia tech football Even in Michael even in Michael Vick era and all of that where they were must see TV just completely ignored them Yeah that ball game against Florida state didn't move you at all Don Brown The only game that moved me was the game that Miami was playing against them in Miami one which was the first actual Virginia tech football game that I seen and I was like oh I'm going with yes exactly Exactly I was 8 So long That's no allegiance Your parents did a terrible job None of them were sports fans That's the key right there Once again What are you doing Way back then Don Brown for the pre game intros Do you remember that at all They played the battalion but they probably weren't because this is a staple at all lane stadium Yeah it's been around for a long time Brian Noni from Salaam with you here on Fox Sports radio Speaking of horrible jobs big men I think it's a smooth transition to your well not just yours Danny G's Don brown's Lakers What in the freaking world is going on with the purple and gold They're not even in the play in tournament I hope they don't make I'm being honest I would prefer them not make the play in tournament at all Because it needs to stop I don't want to go through a plan They win that game they win the next plane game they don't have to sit and watch them get boat raced By Phoenix I'm not I don't want to be a part of that That's not exciting It's not entertaining for me Are you actively rooting against your team No I just want them to keep doing what they've been doing all year Just keep losing Just stay just be consistent It doesn't matter who's back AD one D two D three D it doesn't matter So that's what I'm looking forward to I just want them to go ahead start putting the pieces back together figure out what they're going to do next year And let the teams that have been playing well play in the playoffs That's it And look and yes I'm upset I'm angry Right I'm being spiteful Yeah But enough is enough Yeah It's just bad basketball It's bad to watch It's brutal man They're defense It doesn't exist Man they gave up 82 just a couple of games ago in the first half against Dallas Yes you should be ashamed of yourself You know how hard it is for a team to score 82 You could barely score 82 If you're in the gym by yourself playing 5 on it'd be hard to score 82 points in 24 minutes Right like 82 at the end of.

"Want to rely on it Their offense which they haven't shown today I mean Jamar chase says 84 yards Right I mean Joe burrow is on a record pace right here in the last three games You don't want to put like no make him drive the length of the field Don't give him a short field And we gotta get out regardless of where we're at on So now it's the onus is on your defense Let's go Mason Crosby let's go Okay So are you trusting 'cause I'm not You're trusting the Raiders defense to get a three and out right here Well look they haven't had the success that Cincinnati we thought they'd have running the ball Just right there first down run they lose yards TfL baby Right They lose your So yeah now it's second and long One more of those and now business You're in business And you still have your time out and the two minute warning Well you got to use that time out Well you don't have to use it now though that's what I'm saying If that was a first down there then they're going to be able to run 40 more seconds off the clock but it's not You lose two yards the second and 12 two 50 left to go in the game You got to time out This is exactly where you want to be Now where the strategy shifts the bangles they're no backs Well they might pitch it to them They pitched it to Jamar chase They're going conservative here Guess what It's third and long They're in about 11 Now here's the other interesting thing Did the bangles say we're going to try to end this freaking game right here Let's put it on Joe burrow's shoulders Instead of let's run a conservative plane we get it down to two minutes It's like no man let's let our playmaker make a play Yes but what you did as the Raiders by kicking a deep is you force them to now have make hard decisions Sure you don't ever want it always on you Always want a team to impose the tough decisions on you That's the whole coaching matchup right That's how you become a great coach When you force a team to now make the tough the tough call do we run the ball running down to the two minute warning Do we let our young quarterback who we've trusted this year put it in his hands Now they have to come up with something and you defensively just have to make it impossible Same scenario though right around midfield if you had gone with the onsite attempts Well I'm not really not necessarily same thing If it's an 11 regardless if it's at the 25 or at mid single bank it's completely false Completely true It's completely true Having the ball at midfield or the 25 yard line is really Yeah really What's the difference right there Look I'm watching Don Brown through a mask talk I want to hear what he's saying What are you saying Don Brown It's just yeah I don't know what no is talking about If you get the zero chance what would you rather catch the ball on the one yard line or catch it I like the 25 But you have a chance one to get the onsite But you don't That's 7% chance That's not a chance You got a chance You be raiders ball if you were going on You're the guy You walk up to a beautiful woman and she's like no And he's like no like what It's like a 100% shot on And she's like no I'm just like a 98% shot We won't go on the second chance Well that's your first part There is a chance they got the onsite kick Even if they didn't like explain to me if it's third and 11 at the Bengals 25 compared to the 11th from midfield It's still it's still a decision the Bengals make it now for a first time It's fourth down they stopped them They'll have better fill position because the team is not kicking from the 50 yard line Hey give the Raiders defense credit They got to stop I just didn't trust them to do so Those are your trust issues That's where we don't post all your trust issues on America okay In some foreign countries who have this app All right don't bestow that on them okay Yeah hey man that's the thing though at the end of a game When you go conservative you go first down running play second down wide receiver reverse and it's third and 11 It's like why Why are you putting yourself in that situation when they're going to be playing the run knowing you're trying to milk the clock I agree You've got a top flight quarterback I let them do it because they would let Aaron Rodgers do it They would let Tom Brady do it Yeah They let Justin Herbert do it Not Joe burrow huh We're going to turn around and hand off I just don't like it Don't like Well we got action This is what we wanted We wanted a compelling game Yeah We definitely we got it Later in the show I went Don Brown to check in with something that he agrees with me on You know very few things My ego is not going to be able to take it Very few things If Don just chimes in it's like I just don't even know What Brian is talking about right now For the last ever And now you have to lay in it All right coming up next we'll get you all set up for the final two minutes of this raider's Bengals game and also a big loss for a playoff team We'll discuss that as well I'm Brian no he's from Salaam this is Fox Sports.

So there's a story two hundred might might like but it was an old one that they went to andrew wylie in the first place like older guys to go because he's kind of like we're going to talk about the offensive line and obey. He's kind like on the outside looking in now. That started the super bowl but he's not going to be involved. He's names. Don't get mentioned. Too when it comes to offensive line rex. Now so strange. They hold on him but it was good. Also that i highlighted don brown and the klay hunger from him to really succeed left tackle and is easy for to talk about any. Nfl packers every nfl pie has hunger and desire to do well but for orlando brown because of the family connection. You can see like that. This guy's gonna stop absolutely nothing to succeed in the position. He wants to six. Am the thing. i like about. Olano brown's interview was he looked so calm. Yes relaxed just so kind of focused on. Nobody's gonna touching homes. And that's the thing that i think will resonate right the way across the offensive line going back to what the obviously the The franchise had at the beginning and there was a quote anad that basically said the chase basically said to the nfl. Whatever happened in the super bowl will never happen again. And the sign of under brown. And joe tony and rejigging this complete all. I now has really set that benchmark And i kinda with the season's going to get into the training camp takeaways an independent going on federal into the chiefs news tire. "Glad you're with us. Our to Sean Hannity show. All right. Democrats resumed they can't fill The 16 hours, which is just like all over the place today, and it's his dull and boring and monotonous as it ever could. Whatever they had they used yesterday. What? They're gonna use a ball of their time and just take. I don't think in the end, it helps anybody who helps them for sure. Um And and now they using Mitch McConnell's comments Torto to convict Trump. Anyway, Our legal team is with us. We have Gregg Jarrett back podcast. The brief to number one best sellers, the Russia hoax and witch hunt. On brown, former U S Navy JAG officer, author of Travesty of Justice. Thank you both for being with us. You know, you wrote something in a column, Greg that I you know about Jamie Raskin. And if you don't have facts on your side, you get emotional, which was part of his appeal yesterday. And I'm watching all of this today. It's like, you know, scattershot here there and everywhere and they don't have 16 hours of material to fill. They barely have three hours to fill. You know what was so remarkable yesterday and today is the Democrat House managers are spewing inflammatory rhetoric to make their case for incitement. In other words, they're trying to incite emotion. To make a case for incitement of violence against President Trump. And really, the irony should be lost on no one. What I Objects so much, too, is that they keep playing over and over again, and they did this today clips of of Donald Trump. Um, talking to the crowd, and you know, 10 times already. They've played the clip fight like hell. The use of the term is common political rhetoric. It doesn't mean literally fighting. Or, you know, taking up arms, So you know, it's an allegory. It's a metaphor, and it's commonly used by politicians as I pointed out to you yesterday, even by lawmakers on the floor. Of Congress all the time. And they left out and deliberately deleted the most important clip of all, and that's Donald Trump when he encouraged the crowd. To conduct themselves peacefully and patriotic Lee. He didn't encourage people to breach security launch an attack on the Capitol, attacked police and engage in acts of violence. And think about this. If it were other, wrong wise. Trump would have been criminally charged because he's a private citizen. His words don't come close to incitement. They cannot make a case of incitement. And if this were a real court of law, the case would be over already. Well, you know, it was a real court of law. You would actually have a real judge in this particular case that would have been the chief justice of the Supreme Court. But no, we have the honorable Patrick Leahy presiding. The guy that before the trial ever began, had already declared Trump's guilt in all of this. That's not a trial by any definition, no fairness, no due process, Just like the house snap impeachment. Um and what are we learning? We're learning that a lot of plotting and planning and scheming and organizing Went went into all of what happened on the six, which renders the entire incitement to insurrection charge. Don Brown completely Nolan void. It's just It's not even relevant anymore. We have a kangaroo court Shawn Disguise as an impeachment proceeding by the Senate, the president of United States Is not being tried. The former president's being tried an Article two, Section four does not give the Senate jurisdiction do that. I don't care how many times they voted to hear the case. Just because they vote to hear the case doesn't mean it's constitutional. And fall upon what Greg said. A moment ago, I went back and looked at the president's speech on the sixth, and he only mentioned the phrase capital three times in the speech, and here's the crucial language. I'm reading from it. Here's what President Trump said. I know that everyone here will be marching over to the Capitol building to get this peacefully and patriotic Lee make your voices heard again. The president's words. To peacefully and patriotic Lee make your voices heard, and they're trying to spend that into some sort of high crime or misdemeanor he is calling. For peaceful protest, by the way, which the First Amendment guarantees the right of the people to peaceably assemble and the right of the petition the government for a redress of grievances. Greg is right. They're going a field here. I mean, I was watching Mr Castro earlier today, playing clips of President Trump back in September. And in August properly warning about the Democrats using the virus as a zey cover for election for every right to do that. Well, they're charging him for statements, ma'am, the sixth of January. Now they're going back and playing statement from the from August and September without one shred of evidence that one thug who broke the windows of the capital ever heard any of those speeches. Those emotionalism is strike is hyperbole and it it is an embarrassment to the United States. This is happening. So we have 44 senators on two occasions 45 the first time 44 yesterday that say this is unconstitutional and shouldn't even proceed. Why are Republicans offering any any validity or legitimacy? To the horrific process in the house that didn't they offered no due process. They offered no defense. They brought it. No witnesses, and now the evidence suggests that their entire impeachment article is no and void. Based on the recent discoveries and developing story that in fact, it was all planned. Greg Jared. Yes, all 50 Republican senators should have voted for the motion to dismiss. It's unconstitutional on Dure right about due process. You know, there was never a single hearing. I mean, it's Nancy Pelosi it actually taking the time to conduct an investigation to examine the true facts. Instead of making a hasty decision to impeach without holding a hearing to any literally days after January sex, then She would have realized. I think what we now know. Documents presented in federal court show the Attackers planned a result, days and weeks in advance. It's impossible for a person. To incite a pre planned event. But none of that mattered A Nancy Pelosi, she wanted to rush to impeach Donald Trump yet again, so she cooked up the case without waiting to scrutinize the facts, and all of it is such a charade because we know the outcome. There's no way the Democrats convene, reach the threshold. 67 required votes to convict. So you know, we have to go through this fatuous exercise. It's an extravagant waste of time. Will there be witnesses?.

And last year with our two guys, Washington and Madison, they became number one in the nation playing the defense. That we play. They just have better athletes Store net and listen. Somebody went on your radio station 12 13 years ago predicted all this stuff. What happened? Just ask Gary track guy. He was. He was on the show with me a bunch of times. You know the beatniks and Jerry your prediction about the weather rain before the game was a little off. We've got a little bit then Listen, You remember what it was when Kim Hye ball wasn't here after Lloyd retired to member what the records were We weren't even a 500 team with the exception of 2000 and 11. My God. What have been one bad year with Jim Harbaugh? We got a bunch of people. Listen, we suck in the trenches absolutely suck in the trenches. Okay, the depot to wind things up. The offense of Linus isn't doing much. That's what the game's won and lost and listen. If you were defensive tackles if the way the fans of this university treated were signed, Gary, why would any great defensive lineman want to come back? After that? I was embarrassed what they did on Social media, and I'll just Don't say that. You know what? I have high expectations. But you know what I like. I like the fact we don't go to prison. I like the fact that we have good human beings playful and we graduate our players. I know everybody else wants to win. But winning isn't easy Came you add to the toughest years of motion Makris coaching tenure and two of the greatest years. And the fine line between victory and defeat isn't that far. In foul. I mean, 84. It was one player, the coach today you lost him. You lost the whole season. One player I listen. You're from her Come, she said him after the game on his podcast or whatever. Since 2008 we ever had diddly squat for skilled players, something I know that one of the college at this radio station's been harping on for a long time. So I've said, my piece I've given you the facts. Don Brown isn't down problem. It will finish in the top 10 or 11 every year, but we're just going on. We can't stop the Buckeyes. You know, we're getting a little weak and pathetic in the in the trenches. Now I'll shut up and listen to you guys. Give it to me. Yeah, well, I disagree with you on that, like, I think Don brown like if you're looking at those overall numbers. I've never seen numbers that are so misleading When it comes down to big games down. Brown has been exposed when it comes down to ball games when it comes down the Ohio State when it comes down to what Michigan is the underdog. Down. Brown's been given his lunch to all the opponents. He will not change. It doesn't matter if they're jamming it down his throat. He is not going to change. He's going to continue to play the same defense. So hey, a J. J. If you want Michigan just to stay out of the police blotter and get rolled by teams that are better than him, then go ahead and just keep put your stamp on this team because that's what's gonna happen for you. You're going to keep getting it and that's all right. Because if that's what you enjoy, is looking at a where nobody's getting in trouble. So what goes out of the field? It's more than one year like, If you think just like if your standard is it doesn't matter if you're losing in ball games, and you're getting slapped upside the head by your biggest rival every single year. You're competitive win one game. And if that's gonna be good for you, then that's okay. But you know what? There's like People talking about what? What about Brian Kelly? And what about Dabo, Sweeney and all this like E. I don't see the path there. If there was a path where you had something right now, each and every game Jim seems like less and less that he wants to be here, too. So I'm just watching it and critiquing it. From what I see. I always appreciate your thoughts. I know you love Michigan more than then than anybody or as much as anybody in the world. So you know, I hate to be here, you know, talking and yelling about it, but I see it just differently than you do. Mm. JJ. Go. Is he here? Ask you questions in 2000 and 18. The Ohio State Buckeyes finished 71st and total defense in the nation. Then they wouldn't got L. Washington and Greg Madison and the next you're late finish first playing down pounds defense made the man in the pack the same defense that they would go against every year against Michigan to break it down even further. How do you explain that defense that working? We don't have the same stars as the Buckeyes. Yeah, well, they're part of it. They don't have the stars. But you know, what Rather do is you've got to be able to be competitive on the field and then beat them or you're not gonna be able to beat them on the recruiting trail. Either. You can go out there and have signing for the stars and say we're going around the world, but it doesn't matter. If you can't win on the field, the good players are gonna look at in state. Now. Just go. I'm gonna go where they're gonna go to the college football playoff, where they know how to get the Indianapolis so that's part of the issue. Right now. There's been enough years where anybody that walks into a kid's house right now says Well, why would you want to go there? You're not gonna go to a championship game. That's a tough thing to overcome. It might be the biggest thing that Jim Harbaugh has to overcome right now. I agree, Denis. In fact, on this very station the day they hired Rich Rodriguez, I went on Jefty Friend Show predicted this would happen and people thought I was not supported Rich Rodriguez. You know what you along with the former players, most of the fans and most of the former coaches nobody supported Rich Rodriguez. We were part of the problem. You have a problem? Major ain't getting this any candles, a new history to fight even many issues off the field, either. Really? Yeah. You sure about that? Because I don't want to regulate the time. You know other callers to call in all back tomorrow Go Blue baby. Thanks, JJ 734. That was real folks that what's it made up? That was real. It just went off 7349 and 18 50. Let's go to Terry and Selina. Hey, Terry. JJ, not JJ. Jamie. You didn't start reading my messages. Oh, Terry hung up. I'm sorry while I go, Let's go. Let's go. Toe. Eric in Philly. What's up, Eric? Eric gets it. You know what Get Carolina Hey, did you just get so complicated to Eriks on the phone? Okay. Okay. Eric in South Carolina. What you doing, man? Baby. Jamie, we got Eric from Philly on the wine. God. Okay. Eric and Philly. What's up? Is he from silly? Hey, how you doing? I think Ohio State struggled a couple years ago because she Ana was defensive coordinator never struggled with his schemes. But that's besides the point. I think it's too soon to ask this question. However, I'm highly pissed about what happened. Uh, the other day. But we were going to do at this point. I put my hands up in the air. This at this point. Um, here's his wife too soon. This could get ugly here to tell you right now. Rockers will compete. They're not a good football team. But they are competing. And that worries because a team that I saw on Saturday was not competing, especially on the defensive side of the ball offenses. Listen, it's in the nature of an offense to quit. I've seen teams get shut out 16 nothing because it's an offensive team Quit. You don't get embarrassed when a defensive team quits. You see what you saw the other night. You might see 47 Nothin 55 10. Whatever. And that's what concerns me. You cannot quit on the defensive side of the ball. Penn State's gonna compete. They were down 24 3. They should have came back and won to get Amy up today. Especially since after they made that quarterback changed so that guy worries me now. Maryland. You already know to his brother. He's the real deal. So these next three games are scaring me. There may not be a win left on the schedule, Gentlemen, I I kid you not. And that's what worries me because I'm in my lifetime. I never thought Michigan would be this bad. I know we had to rich rod teams and never extra oceans. But But Jim Harbaugh as our coach and see this I can't make heads or tails of this. I can not.

"I don't know if this is fair or not, but it seems like it's an unconventional approach of playing four backs how they are. You mentioned getting 100 yard back, but you know they they rolled for out there against Minnesota. Now, if we were sitting here after three games and over three, and you'd say, Hey, look at Michigan. They're doing something very unconventional. They're zigging while everybody else is sagging and and it's really working, but the last two games, it's not and no other teams do this, whether it's in college or pro. You know, I was complaining about the wildcat last week. But now you know when you're not having any success for me, it's why won't they give a guy or two? You know, do you think that could be a is that a fair assessment of criticism? Ofjust playing too many backs and not trying to pare it down. You know, I think it can be fair. You know, it's hard for thee. To say it's the wrong recipe here. That's the wrong strategy because you know, I've never lived in an environment with that many backs and rotating him in like that. So you know, I can't tell you the pros and cons. I can only speculate. What my The Khan to that concept for me would be the backs all see things differently, Just like we all do. Everybody sees things differently. In the back, has tohave Great vision in seeing the running, leans and seeing those those lanes over and over and over. With his offensive line. And they get it. They start to gel, and they know when things were going to open up in the rebuild the trust and it's just It's just a Joan process that that I think I'm sure Jamie can comment, but I would imagine that having seen the same thing over and over again. Is going to help the vision of the back, entrusting the lanes and making the right cut if there's not enough repetition there and he's going in, and he's trying to feel his way. And it's not as instinctive as it should be. That can probably have an adverse effect. So that would be a con I I can't sit here and say that that I know that for sure. That's just speculation on my part, but I think it's probably strong speculation that From former running backs that the more you see those lanes and the more repetition you have there in there on a consistent basis, the more trust you get with your offensive line, the more you gel on The more positive yardage and positive place you have. It was in the John Navarre Monday afternoon, Quarterback John Let's go to the other side of the ball on the defense. Don Brown been criticized for leaving his corners out on an island so he did try to Run a zone defense, but I'm not quite sure if he knew how to run his own defense. He he left him so far back. It's almost to the point they were they were. They just did slant routes and get first downs. He would blitzes. They would wait in the lot that I saw the tight end on a delay. He would wait for the linebacker tablets, knowing that John Brown Lights likes to send his is middle linebackers in right in leaving opening in that medal, and you know the safety would have to come come back from where he is to make a place. So I mean, what did you think about that defense and I mean, is it something we definitely have to work on? Yeah, you know, to your point that the criticism he's receiving it has spread nationwide. You heard that on the broadcast? I mean, everybody seems to be talking about it. Because it's jumping off the screen. I mean, it's just, uh plain, you know, average. Joe's Khun See what's going on, and that's not good. But it's giving a lot of attention and then you saw it early on. I think we're still too late to mix things up. We let them just every just go into the well until there's no water, But yeah, we didn't mix it up and go toe zone coverages, but I think it was brought cured on the broadcast made. The point is that you know if you live and die by man coverage and blitz, and that's all you worked through training camp in off season and then you want to flip the switch in week three. And start going his own zone defense. It is going to be a learning curve because it's different reaction. It's spacing and understanding how much cushion you should be giving in. What where you fit in your zones. So it's just can't put the switch. Now they may have been practicing zone along. I'm sure that they mix it up, but When that's your staple in, that's your bread and butter in your default defense. I'm sure there's going to be. There is some learning curve to understanding how zone concepts work. On how to react to different looks from the offense. So mid game if you haven't spent a lot of time on it. It means it's not going to be, you know the savior of the answer. But it was it was discouraging to see continue to, you know, jump balls. Pass interference. They knew who to pick on anyone after it. And it was just Ah. It was challenging, you know, hard to see the same things over and over again. It was very frustrating. Well, John to that point, I'll tell you how frustrating discouraging from somebody just watching the game here. Was the defense continuing the jump offsides with that hand clap or whatever the snap that it was absurd, But what did you see there? I just Disciplined. I mean, it's not the first time he's done that, or any clap offense. Quarterback doesn't mean that's got to come up. And be stressed and scouting. And worked on all week. So it's second nature. I just don't understand that. How many times We got caught with that It was just silly and You know, on addition is not getting much pressure on the quarterback upfront. I mean, I just I'm struggling, too. We've got some talented players. But I really to that point of discipline that I'm that I'm referencing is where is it? We're leaders. I'm going higher level here now and In my discussion, But where leaders where is the heart and I just just the leaders are not jumping off the screen to be And I'm struggling to find out who our leaders are. No, we have captains, but Somebody's gotta rally both sides of the ball here. When no start little things start to happen. Just continue Jump offsides. I'm not seeing people rally the team. I see a lot of looking around at each other. Someone's waiting for someone to step up. I just I'm just not seeing it. I don't know what our identity is the disciplines. Not there. And and and I'm not seeing a lot of heart, so it's very very concerning from a former Michigan player. You're listening to John Navarre Monday afternoon quarterback John, Um to that point, I mean, I'm thinking that the the victim Championship is out of the question for Michigan now. Now they've got to turn their sights on on on winning games just for their team mates for themselves for I mean for the University of Michigan. I mean, It's tough to play in an empty stadium. John. It's tough, You know, I get it because you're used to playing in front of 100,000 Plus and everything like that. But you wanted to play football and there are there going to be limitations in a pandemic, But but that's understood. You gotta fire yourself up as well as the coaches got to get you fired up. Got to get you ready for each and every game. Where does this team go now? Well, to your point, I think Yeah, I think it's a lot of our goals are are gone Championships. You know who knows what What? The bowl games. We're goingto are goingto consist of as we get through this, but Now. Now it's playing for pride. Michigan Pride and Putting together Asleep a mediocre seasons because I think a successful season is probably out the windows right now..

"He's gonna let you have an athletic quarterback. You got a dynamic quarterback you even even even You've been teaching these kids that you got here, Josh Gattis. Let him show you Let your pupil show you what he learned over the summer over over these past two games. Let him go. I'm sure you will be. You won't be disappointed because I think he's a player that can get things done. If you let him do the things he's able to do. That's what I'm saying. Know your players and know what they conduce and what they can't do and let them do the things that they're good at. Show Mill number one on the trending list that takes us to exes and Oh's are axes and Jay Mo's And Jamie. I got questions that we have assembled throughout the weekend out here late in the week to ask you About football and I take you back to pass set this past Saturday at the Big House. It was Gus Johnson. Joel Klatt was the analyst and during the game, he said that the Michigan DBS have a reputation under Don brown. Of being hanzee. Now, I don't know. Had you heard this before Saturday? And you know what if you're playing press man. And that's what you're known for, like down Brown's known as Dr Blitz and keeping his corners out of the island and right up in the face of the opponent. Maybe that just comes with the territory. But, Ed, you heard that That Michigan had a reputation under Brown of being hanzee..

"Twos back at the Taj Mahal on, you know, on your afternoon. It's Monday afternoon quarterback with John Navarre, former quarterback for the University of Michigan. Hey, John, how you doing today? I'm good man. How are you? We're doing Okay, John, we're getting there. John. You had an opportunity to take this game in. It's different because it didn't have a lot of fans and more family of Michigan State of Michigan players. It's a different I know it's a totally different take on it, but Give me your take of the Michigan Michigan State game for 2020. Well, a lot of AA lot of different takes, depending on what aspect you're talking about. But in general, just, um you know if you want to talk about the new the new 2020 football season what it looks like with with a pandemic, no fans. I was very, very surreal. Um, in that stadium empty, Not here in the typical crowd noise. Um, especially for a Michigan Michigan State rivalry game. Um, you know, I was listening to the broadcast, and I said something that was 293 consecutive Home Games. Street was Was snapped attendance records and just you know, you really brought into perspective. Once the fans weren't there, it brought into perspective. The fact that you know it reminds you that the stadium is the largest in America, second largest in the world. And you're part of history every Saturday. You're there. And you lose, you know you lose focus sometimes of how important that is. You're sitting in that in that stadium and you see Part of the largest crowd watching a football game or sporting event anywhere in America, let alone the country or the the nature of the world and not having the fans there is brings out all the light reminds you just how How special that place is from the stadium and the attendant standpoint, so it was surreal to watch it with no fans. You know, John, In retrospect it you know it was surreal watching it. I'm surprised that Minnesota didn't have the same kind of game plan that the Michigan State did like attacking. Michigan's Ah corners, But Michigan State obviously did have that game plan. We saw that there was some tough calls on Michigan early, and then there was some. Ah, some that were properly called. But they just kept going after it. And after it that seemed to be the you know the that's that was the game right there. That was the biggest part of the game. How did you see Rocky Lombardi throwing the ball deep on those Michigan corners? How did you see that aspect of the game? Well, how I thought. I mean, you're talking about how you know the man and anybody who wants to be just watch a couple of Ohio State films. And and watch them just throw the ball over us in Mandarin in defense. Andi, you don't even need But, you know, I know are guys are talented in this special, but these are good college players against good college players. You play that much man defense in the crossing routes and schemes. Guys, we're going to break open and then when you throw 50 50 balls up Um, it's it's that's exactly what it is 50 50, so it's going to go the offense or the defense. So what do they have to lose by taking a shot, But you want to beat Michigan's defense? Just watch hard state comb and I'm sure Michigan's They probably did that and I you know, I think Rocky Lombardi's in okay, quarterbacking and blow me away and I think he throws the ball OK, doesn't have a gun for an arm and He just played within himself. We're right in the game plan, and things worked out in their favor. But what's disappointing is this. We just never get out of the make adjustments on defense. Um and and I almost feel like the other team's got to be laughing. That are they going? They're going to change things up here and asking themselves like one of their going to change things up A well, let's just keep doing it. And that's where it looks like, you know, week after week, year after year. Just keep doing the same things and we don't adjust. And it's a no for just waiting for, um, tohave, the most superior defensive backfield thatyou could ever assemble in the in the history of NC two a football And rely on their ability to win football games. Or you're going to try to scheme and mixed things up in a Justin placing zone or just going to go one on one all day and let letter R DBS get abused. I mean, I just I don't understand it. I'm tired of seeing the same things. Job from a coaching standpoint, Now I'll stay on the defensive side. When you see something like that most coaches, they will change up. They will make adjustments, they will bring the safeties. And make sure the safety's our part of the secondary to help give some help. You can't leave a guy on the island if it's if it's not working. So of And I'm don Brown just seems to understand one thing and we go after the quarterback. We go after him hard. We need to get to him and put him on the ground. But after a while, as you said, you throw that ball up in the air. I mean, yes, there are. There are three things that can happen, and two of them ain't good, but I mean, now there's four things because referees could throw flags. If they're told to look out for this. Look out for that. Yeah, exactly. It's It's jealousy, and I'm not saying don't have again are going back to my point. I don't I'm not saying we don't have good players. Oh, you can't. This is football of these kids. These kids were in high school your two year ago. Ah, and they're not. They're playing against players that they have never seen before. It's it's again. It's a 50 50 shot and why not take that at that level? Things are going your way. And you cannot put these kids on islands. You know, there's In football, there's only a handful of lock down corners. And there's a higher percentage in the NFL, but because that's the best of the best, but it is not the course in but the most disheartening thing is just When you see it. In the first quarter in the second quarter. Do something about it to make a change? Because what do you think the offense is gonna do? They say, every offensive coordinator, every coach. I'm standing on the opposing side lines is going to keep going to the well until there's no more water. I've been on this broadcast for years now, and I've told you that when we knew something with work, and we run the same play up and down the field, we just flipped it left and right..

"No, there's going to be a lot of Will be a lot of mix and match and a lot of help for those guys. For sure, it's the number one It's the number one item in this game that you have to talk about before you go anywhere else. No, You're right. I mean, look, Don brown last night listed, he went through. He went through the players, he said we got hidden. We got Jeter. We got what's called we got. We got Smith as well as they got state Wilton Space brother. They got camp They love like they say Kip is one of the best captains they've had since they've been there. So with that being said they like their defense of life. They like the rotation of it. They like running guys in and out of there like they done in the past, when they when they when they had a deep defensive line, so guys will stay. Guys will stay refreshed that and that's that's the kind of don brown defence you're looking for. So I'm I'm thinking that John Brown's feeling very confident in his defense right now he's had time to go one on one with each and every section of his defense. The defense of line the linebackers, the safety's the corners. He's had a chance to talk to them individually, spend time with them and go over. Now it's time to put him on the field. And I was thinking this weekend because he was excited. So when when you talk about his excitement, he got to see that In the live contact that he was having with his office. That's what I'm saying. What he saw. He was It drew something in him. That said, We got something going. We got something going. I want to hear that office of coaching in the same thing when we get him on because I want to make sure that the same thing's happening on offense, But we're talking defense here and John Brown's hiked up. And I think in time Brown like that kind of guy, he's gonna He's gonna promote the guys that he he likes that. He knows that I'm going to play, but I mean, he went through the whole damn Roster Pretty much said I like this guy. I like that guy. I like this guy. This guy's gonna give us this. And this got all the guys that I was looking for names that I didn't hear when he He did his interview. Dennis. He did throw these names out there now. Yeah, well, we had a really firm grasp of knowing the players from from last year and what they did and having them Penciled in for this first game and then just wait and see who the coach was going to talk about. And and I think it is music of Michigan fans ears When you're listening to the coach talk in a couple of the first things that he's saying is Hey, it's nice to have a rotation..

"You develop his confidence confidence and I just I have seen the maturation especially the last probably month of a getting rid of the ball quicker because you talked about that and my biggest thing is I it. And it's not not only on him but he he he definitely hold onto the ball and Jalen hurts her. Like almost like you feel horrible for the line sometimes and again. That's part of just you know we'll get more live reps bullets in. He has improved on that and I think they've done it. They've written that fine line of boy. It gets a four four as to thirty you can run him a lot but you big risk if he's not on the field big risk and I think that also goes back when when I really think back on what I've watched all oh year is they know that they have one guy and so a lot of a lot of stuff they've done in the throat game until past two games was a lot more max expertise slower developing. Because they're really say all right. We cannot get this kid hit. We can't go five-man pro. We need to go seven man pro and you know what it might take a little longer and though I think there are definitely examples where you need to get the ball out of his hands but part of it by designed to protect them right right but I would say he's Eh from what I could tell and I you know. I wish I had the time digging. Deeper really look you know. Is he making the reasons he not. You know A couple of plays and it broke down from Saturday's touchdown sound passes you know we're we're excellent reads And I if I listened to your replay for Monday little late on a throw to Alavi. Yeah but he but he threw high outside he put it in a great spot. No no could've gotten rid of it. A split second. I thrown descent. But his his his foot. We're GONNA play was excellent because one thing. I teach my young quarterbacks as I call it a bump in your throat yeah so after this fake was from the lap. Yeah right right. And that's not an easy easy task would not get a turn and throw your hips twenty five yards down the field to the right but he took it a little bump step which gave momentum towards throw which. I always teach if you can do that you want to do that. And that was huge. So that that was thrown on the money in the one to to K J was a great real phenomenal because you have man coverage average across the field and it to me that was a little bit of a challenging week is a free state was to the left but He looked to his right The album any any froze safety and say to his done. The safety wasn't a factor on that play and K J. I think just made it was a simple move. There's no there's no fake no he just flat beat him. Yeah K. J. so efficient when he runs routes yeah. He's not the fastest guy. Matter of fact he he gets made fun of to this day by the other receivers for being so slow. Even though he's not that slow but compared to Paris Campbell. Campbell or Terry McLaren he was definitely the slow footed one. But he's so efficient that he looks fast faster than He. And that's a great analysis and you would know that right because that's a play. Were you know he could put a move on but he chose not to and it was the right decision because he just blew by whoever's covered him getting hosted he was trailing right away pretty easy throw and the other guys. There were two on two two two on two on the right hand side. Both man covered. They didn't get open. I think one guy he got. He Got Collision Yup. I might have been one of the other tight ends now as I watched them like that improved for next week. You gotta get open after. There's no safety over the top right pre snap. That probably would have been a really good read right but absolutely and I mean you look look at it. If he doesn't do a good job holding the safety on that play or if the safety just said this is my my mismatch. And I'M GONNA I'm GonNa Overplay K J Hill. You got a problem right if the boundaries not open right right right so But that was that was spot on and perfect execution because he looked he looked to the right to hold the safety and then he delivered a perfect strike in that play looked not easy not necessarily easy. It's about the pre snap read you love those plays that look easy. You know. They're not you're like that low. That was easy. Yeah Okay Yeah but that was You so he is shown tremendous accuracy and again I mean what are we nit picking stats joke. Ridiculous it's a joke and they could run on a more. I mean again. If if you know to office is is not the same right now. you got a big drop off but And I'm wondering though. I'm wondering being if if the mantra isn't to run him more. Because it gets Penn State. He ran quite a bit. Yeah that he he ran a time in early two not like. Oh It's a tight game game. We need to do it. It was like it was almost like there. Was this definitive point in the season. We're Ryan Day. said all right here we are. We have a three game run. And and then the playoff to change off man. It's just go to quote one bruce. What a pound? Everybody's expendable everybody. Everybody right I don't care right. And that's the sense I got was much as they ran him in a and I was wondering. Is that a precursor to what we're GONNA see this week. I think it's GonNa it. It definitely looks like it will be especially with the defense. That Michigan has And I think it's going to be a hell of a test for state. I think there's this I've said it for probably four or five weeks now and I don't know that it's even I think pretty much. Everyone has targeted this game as the game. That Ohio state really really is going to be retested and I get the the shape. Patterson has underperformed. Their offense has been lacklustre. They have some freaky jump. Ball receivers their quarterback is a decent athlete and they have a stout defense. And so what. I'm interested to hear your opinion on is what do you think the benefit that Ryan Day in Ohio state state have right now having stolen Greg Madison and Washington and really I mean you're talking about they have insight into the mind of the Madman Don Brown right now and that's valuable don't you think I think it's highly valuable I really do. I think I thought about that. Is this week. His started because not only brown book but coach Harbaugh. You know they know how they prepared the last couple years and can talk. You know because it's coaches your early the week like what you think. What are they gonNA do? What do to us? You know you you sell scandal. But how they going to respond to us in knowing that Greg and our there last year you know knowing what Don's Don Brown's plan was which didn't work didn't work right at all You know they they can better anticipate it's not you know you still got to make the plays you still got to prepare. But I think those insights are are are are very important when those guys have been in that camp. It is Because you know you know Dombrowski gotTa be thinking I want my shot. You're coming up here. I'm getting even. Oh He's a competitor right. He's thinking that and and just like you said both sides. I mean it's not only do Madison and Washington want to have that. I guess I don't WANNA call revenge. But they're they're ready for this one. They've been thinking about this one since they made the decision to to drive down. I seventy five They made they know. This is the game and you and I talked about it before before. We got on on here but I saw that a year ago with Ryan Day because Ryan was the coordinator in Boston College. Don Brown was the defensive coordinator and there was this level of respect it but I really want to kick your ass. It was just it was so cool to watch because he talked about him constantly and what he would do and and you saw the result last year it was just phenomenal. And I get that and I appreciate you sharing that because I experienced that now some high school level but coordinator in high school. And you go against your defense quarter everyday every day and you want to kick their ass every day all the time no matter what. That's what you told me that. Unlike all I get it now right now I see the bigger picture and even even thought about about it more so because Boston college was just average on offense when Ryan was there. They didn't have gray scale. Players Dombrowski Defensive Boston. College was top. Four five in the country. So I'm sure you're Ryan got his ass speed and pretty pretty much daily in in Boston. And he was he was really looking forward to having the checkers to compete. And kinda exposed. Don Brown's defense and you look at last year it worked it. I mean man but again and I've said this to at some point that goes away though because because you know it's it's who's got the better players is to me. This is the game of the coaches gotTa make the right chess moves throughout the week but to me. You can't screw it up because coaches at screwed this game up and I've witnessed it so it to me it's like you gotta get your players prepared to play instill be loose you know and not all puckered up and that's a challenge coach but sometimes you can take it too far and he could those guys would they're just they're too tight and they're not ready to play you. Put them in the wrong position. And we've seen that happen. Yeah I'm most excited I actually I. I'm excited for both sides. The ball but I really am curious to see. What is Josh Gaddis in? What is Michigan's Michigan's plan going to be against this defense? Because right now when I watch Penn state arguably had the best skill set on the perimeter that will have stages played all year not maybe not even arguably they do and they made a conscious decision albeit. They couldn't win on deep routes against Okuda and against Damon Arnett and the new new defense that Steve has presented all year or they said we can't block this kid chase young for long enough to throw downfield. And so I'm just interested to see because Michigan he's GonNa Trot out a much much better skill set on the perimeter and that's what they are. There are deep ball team. They're down the field team so I'm curious what what is is the plan GonNa be an. How's that GonNa go very interesting and I and the thing that consider if I'm looking at that team up north and my concern for them is when I look at the stats from last last week against Indiana? They ran the ball for eighty six yards up. That's not much now. It's November and you gotTa play in this game this week. You know you better be able to run the ball. Control my scrimmage Greenwich and that that's a concern now again. You may be. If you're if you're at the North Fan you could say well you know. Shapes and took advantage of what Indiana gave him it right read it. He had a great great game. He did. He's playing a lot better. I would argue. They'd not taken advantage of those big receivers. The last couple of years I agree. Where's the disconnect there I don't I don't Get that I think the buck stops with Jim. Harbaugh I mean we can. I've heard all the analysis and I've had my own opinions on Josh Gad. is coming in never calling plays and it's like how many times can you blame your coordinator as an offensive guy until you look in the mirror and say Yup. Nope it's me. I'm the issue right and to be honest as good does he was urban. Had that moment where Ryan came in and he said I'm part of the issue I'm going to step out.
