"I don't know. I like all these. I had these people up on this bike dude. Some crazy i went time. Got them on one pedal just like no like this. I'm like this is not safe. Or right. And i'm pretty sure this jim doesn't have enough liability insurance to like paper what i'm serving but it was amazing and the reason we're so good. It was all personality. I was just acting. I was like doing a sat in front of them. Just super high sure but but the anybody like you could do it tomorrow you could do. You could pay one hundred bucks. Get certified like do it. Isn't that crazy. Thing is is like at this point of my life. I don't wanna lead fitness class. thank you. i don't want to do that but i do. Actually go to them for the first time in my life Yes doing a couple years ago. This is so embarrassing. But it's true. It's embarrassing it's fine. I go to the bar method and bar ballet classes. Because i have a lot of bali training from when i was a little kid and it was also super traumatic but as an adult can reclaim that and be in spaces that used to be terrifying to us. That's been really wonderful and healing. I like void group fitness forever. Because i was. I didn't wanna feel like such a weirdo. I felt like such a weird. Goon and i was a kid like sneeze wrong with my gender and everybody knows but now i'm just like the only person who looks like this every bar method class and that's fine with me and it's actually find with me. I did go to. They did for pride class this year and i did go and it was me and the instructor and then one person who didn't realize it was a pride class and i was wearing fully like a rainbow outfit and you know what i stayed. I stayed did the dead and so we can growth as possible cathartic.

"At that time. And it was just kind of like my stick it to you moment a little bit where it's like i'm just gonna be fully may and that was around the time when i started to get lots and lots and lots of gay teacher fans followers and a lot of like fan mail and stuff only look silky. Oh yeah this way. it's a cave. What her skirts cape. That part stayed at school. But i think that's yeah. Send us that so we can post. Please no problem no problem when when you would did you did you get actual push back. I mean the the thing that you saying this like agenda conversation with the parent. But if you're saying you know to apparently whatever parent conference or whatever it is and you know your question then you say i have a partner morgan you did. What was that experience like. How was that received. God you i feel like my confidence really set itself. Like don't try me. You know like yeah. Yeah like don't don't come from me and it was never not it was. It was a few times not well received but at this point in my career i kind of like made a name for myself in education in the school as a person. Who very much does his job. Does it well and cares about the kids. So a couple of times when a parent would like bring it up by principles. Were like and now pray so so so then but it was those formative years. When i was a brand new teacher. And i knew i could lose everything at every moment like nobody really cares about what i'm doing like i have no legs stand. That was when i was really like in the closet at the most. And where were you working at the time. 'cause you weren't living in seattle and where where were you working so i started my career. Just.

"I feel like non year. This past year is a a trans man that i went to high school after which them for for the state of michigan and for the country like that was huge as past year. Sorry that that's really amazing. No i just feel like it's like that to me is indicative of maybe how rare that currently is that a teacher is able to have that support. Come out link and be themselves. Because i don't even feel like that that's part of. I don't know your backlash against that yet. Which i think means not that. Those people aren't they're not that there aren't wonderful transports who like want to be teachers. Who already are trans or who already our teachers and our transport more so that like it's may be more more similar to what you're talking about that that choice to be closeted her to leave the profession because yeah that's not even that's not even i hear people pissed off about that doesn't mean it's not there it means it means it's too dangerous. Yeah yeah absolutely absolutely which is sad. Yea that is said wow I mean this. I love this conversation. Also because you know i love that you and i have stand up in common but i really think that you know there are so many different types of people that listen to this show and i think a lot of times and things are really show busy and i like to get you know like a big deal. actor on and talk about acting town but like the fact that you know. I'm i'm i'm happy to talk about. Stand up if you willing to stand up. But i think that really this stuff about being a queer person that's navigating a world that doesn't get as much coverage as say you know the standard world. I think this is what's really valuable often to our listeners. 'cause this is these are the lives that you know. People are living debt. Listen to this show. It's like hey hey there are. There are some there. Are some industry folks. Listen to this show hormone i. Most people i think are just living a different life than the touring stuff that we were talking about earlier. That's why i do it. I do too like when. I'm making jokes about being a gay teacher. I'm really targeting. People who are not teachers so they can like laugh laugh with me and then they go back on their car and they're like that's messed up like we gotta do something about that so like. It's exactly what i'm you to like. When i'm the people who you would least expect or who i hope to target. Yeah so when you would be asked about by students and then also by parents and maybe it's different answer. Would you say when people would ask about your. Are you married if a wife especially like hinder gardner like i just can so see that as like a severe like repetitive age related a lot of information. And you want to find out where everybody stands. It makes sense that you would maybe be asked about that. Oh constantly Would you say. I was very mask. Deflector so my number one thing was sitting inside. Like where's your. I'd say a wife a iago i don't even have time to take care of myself and then just leave it. I could never. I could never I could never say like. I don't have life and like then have to die into this lie. Always don't lie just deflect. Which is what i like all but was even harder when the parents would do it. Yeah the parents will. Sometimes parents are very nosy. Right larry maher asking lots of questions. Also yeah parents would try to set me up with their niece or dam or whatever and i was just like oh god here we go and i would just say oh. I'm not really dating right now. And it was like focusing myself or high got a lot going on or something like that but then it would go even farther like. Are you sure like you like really like like. Kill it out there like if you been here like there's so many girls like.

"Cameron has auditioned for the role of christopher columbus. What do you want us to do about this and my parents she good. Oh yes she's okay. She's good so they were like all right. We'll then give her the role and the school wouldn't let me play christopher columbus by myself so there was a boy that played in half of the bob laden half of the performances and i played in the other half and i also wore. My mom's mom had these boots. That look like the boots that julia roberts wears in pretty woman. I don't know shit. That's what i worked. Views were like they were swayed. And i thought they were very fancy Anyway i look back on this an i am very curious. What like the rest of the school because this was like not how like this is like not chill like people were not. This is not like i was doing this but this is not what people were doing. And i love my parents said she good and then and then that i did it but also like. I can't even imagine what the parents were thinking. You know like gendered stuff is like so affirmed in schooling so important to many parents. Many school systems like making sure that things. Are you know that. I can imagine if your teacher that falls outside of that that yeah the same. The same things apply.

"We're actually gonna as society. There are people who are going to turn those people away just because they are like it is. I will never be able to wrap my head around it. Yeah i mean. I hear you actually just this week. The week that we're talking My high school. I went to catholic a conservative catholic high school and my school was like in the news because they rescinded an offer to coach. Who has actually. This person was a student at my school a year younger than me and she was offered a position as a coach and then filled out her wife as emergency contact and they took away their offer of employment and there were huge protests Students were wanted to where rainbows to school and protests and then the head of school wrote like an open letter to all the students in lake it to media also about like how confusing rainbows are too high. School students in please don't wear rainbows because like that's like not obviously a A symbol we can unify behind because it It isn't like as clear as a crucifix so few would instead of wearing rainbows if you would just were crucifix. That would be great and it is. Actually it turned into a whole thing in there was a bunch of press coverage which i got a little bit involved in because i want to say as queer person who was. I'm fully an adult. And i went to the school so it's like for the kids that are there now. I felt a real responsibility. Not just for this coach but for the students that are there to advocate for them and be an adult that speaking out. About how awful. This is that like the messaging is is damaging and And harmful to people and anyway Because of that the the re offer this coach this job. This all happened this week and she took it. Oh and i'm very happy that she did for perfect and then also for students at that school but it was. It's an ongoing thing and to know that your school feels that way about you As a student is terrible feeling. And i would imagine also you know as an educator to know that parents feel that way about you or that your school might feel that way about you that you're not good enough i mean it's the messaging is Is so damaging. Like i. I still am affected by by the messaging that i was gross and sinful and and wrong like would never have positive future because it just once it gets in there. It's just in there and Anyway it really matters that you work in education is what i'm trying to say or anybody that you did work and anybody. That's currently working at really matters. Because it's something that i didn't ever get a chance to see in ino- would have changed my life to see that there was somebody who had who is like me who i suspect. Look what i do too is.

"Then it is weird to think that like this place hasn't been doing that is just. It is a really strange. It's a strange feeling a very strange time. Yeah absolutely So you have more coming up in tacoma tonight. amd's limit. Yes them in tacoma tonight. And then i am off for three weeks Before hit san diego. And i mean. Do you feel like the reasoning for going out right now. Even though it's dicey or whatever is it that like this is your job and you need to make money on is it. Is that what it is. Yeah yeah i mean that's true that's a real thing. Yeah that's a real thing and it that was. That was a weird too because So during quarantine to my when. I was teaching my presence. With what i was doing. Teaching was a little bit of a distraction. Knowing that i had such a huge following and i am comic and There wasn't even think of that right so then there was to go back and i've made that decision because i'm like well i got like tackling my goals and my dreams by doing this but it's not appropriate for me to be in the classroom after just like doing a city ever weekend coming back and doing that. I don't want the parents families to feel like that. They're already dropping off their five-year-old to you they're worried enough. I don't need worrying about the too so there's actually like my call to do that. That's interesting that makes a lotta sense. Yeah i mean. I i'm also curious. I have no idea what this is like but like queen s in the classroom is that what is that vibe was how.

"It. Did it freaked me out. So i have like re changed a lot of what i do how i do it like my shows. Tonight around tacoma and seattle. I can drive myself there and and everything like that. So i feel a little bit better about that but it's still always in the back of my head and it was horrible horrible. Really thanks. i appreciate that a lot of people. Don't say that. When i when i tell them the story because it it sounds like complaining but it it was actually like i love comedies. Like my life. Like i love it and then it was just gone. Jeter you get that well also will say that. Like for me i you know. I'm wearing a mask Backstage playing venues where people are Vaccinated and mass and then like m- also asking their lake away from the stage. I did a couple of shows not a couple one show where it was at a club and like the way that rock club. A lotta simply are theaters and in a theater stages higher and the audiences lower and so it doesn't feel like you're necessarily like on the same plane with anybody right You're facing and i did. I did like a club and the folks it just felt like they were like way too close and that we were on the same plane and i asked the club to move them back for any additional shows and so then they were like really far away from the stage which was helpful to me But also strange because they were really far away from the state but still like Preferred anyway. i'm not doing as many dates as you're doing because i don't even have eighteen dates to cancel but i have been wondering you know like okay even with these like i just don't think it's very i will say i don't think i should be a one percent health department reciting what is and isn't safe and you know the stuff that i booked i booked like bright before delta surged. Playing these places surged at all And playing these places that are taking precautions but it does feel like confusing because there isn't a ton of like you know other than that i've been doing mostly stay home or like i'll see friends for an outdoor dinner or for walking very small groups of people and so this is a big change in what i'm doing and i don't know what we're supposed to be doing because none of the stuff that i'm doing is anything that any local health department says anything but two thumbs up to. Yeah so then. It's very confusing. Because it's like. Is this actually okay. Like what like what is actually. Okay i mean. I don't know i don't know if you went through that in your mind by. That's what i've been really struggling through that especially with other shows to where again i don't feel like i should have to be. A one person helps determine either but there are shows. Were then like i'm talking to my raps and i'm like okay. So it's like show vacs card audiences nascar and they're like no and i'm like so like we're gonna we're gonna ask that we're gonna make that happen right.

That's in Ruth ellis which is so cool right as the next good work and honoring lily tomlin. Oh yeah and so. I got to host the show that she was on which was very cool. Because i got to bring my mom. And that's one of those ones. Where like you know your your mom anybody's mom is a big lily. Tomlin fans right so you original miss frizzle come on. Yeah well. I think my may have been. She liked her from like you know similar not from from from your child for a young child and anyway mom was really excited to the that literally leaned over during my sutton. Said she's great. You know like that. My mom was really chest. is she. Watching grayson frank. I think she did. Watch grayson frankie. But you know maybe after mom can get really into like bly matter now i gotta watch a show. Oh yeah oh yeah. That's my mom too. Yes very cute. Yeah well i see your onto a right now. And i know you've had some dates already. Yeah how are. How are you doing out there. How's it going out there. How does that feel so you want to me real see. Go out. boom dot co and then had to cancel eighteen eight bookings yes. I wanted to die that feeling. Okay here's the thing i wasn't here. We're backing this up. I wasn't like cova like flagrant by any means like i was a map. I a mask person. I'ma backs person like everyone you do. That is my journey for me. So i'm like okay. I think it's time we can do this. I go. I do my show. I wear my mass. I'm vaccinated. i'm feeling great. I don't wear my mask during the show and then i do the show and then like that code. But i can't say it was at the show like i traveled. I got an a plane..

"Like well so i like i don't really have too many credits outside of my own tours so was like well. I'm on your imdb. And i don't really see much and i was like. Oh that's funny. I didn't know who you were before. I got on the skull. Either i was just like. Don't try me so like a kind of a nice person super nice mary. Accepting of all people clearly loved having diversity on his. Show that day actually. Can we talk about that for a second. You have had six social media success which in the specifically like the stand up comic world is especially for somebody that's your age versus like if you were twenty three. I think it's different and new now but it is challenging to come in with like social media success but maybe not as much time Actually i don't even know how much time we're spending like in clubs and on the road. I know that you've had social media success. It's different in the stand up comedy world like that's a double edged sword. Where like i think yes. People wanna talk to you. People want to help your platform to help them or whatever but in terms of something like imdb credits. I mean what's your experience with that being taken seriously as a comic having had social media success like i you know before other types of success can be. I've actually doing comedy for twelve years. So i was doing it long before the social media was even popping or anything like that so the common misconception about me is that i am just the social media star with a really big following coming into the club to try. Stand up which i've been doing so challenging. It's very challenging. Because you know like all these other comics are jaded seeing it time and time again where this person comes in they sell a room they bring five good comments with them and they go do ten minutes of like not great and they get like all the accolades for it right. So that's what people think. I am coming in that. Come in and i like murder six. Yeah i think. I think i'm also talking about in terms of where one has been spending this twelve years because if something is working on social media like that doesn't necessarily translate to bookings unlike traditional programs it's not the the to have not joseph unlike dancing with the stars like that still in an experimental phase of people trying to figure out how like how to merge social media and television and. She's like a mega mega mega star. So it's like a. It's it feels like surely television configure out how to deal with this but one would seemingly not. Yeah not necessarily been something that folks have been able to merge yet very successfully the weird part about it is that Like with with the doing well on social media to people don't realize that there's.

"And you know. It's good yup. Yup you know they say a lot of times you hear in these undergraduate programs. A good teacher can teach any age. And i don't agree with that. I think that you know what you're good at. And you feel what you're good at a new go-to those places. Like i can openly tell you that. I don't feel like i was the best fifth grade teacher that i could have been because i was so unhappy up. There just wasn't feeling my bucket. I did the best they could but it just wasn't me but like down here in kindergarten land. Like i'm i'm so in my element that it's making me a better teacher. So i really like whenever i go to colleges and universities to speak. I very candidly expressed that in case the kids have heard that we're going into education. Because could you imagine like a first year teacher going in and they get sixth grade and they've always wanted to teach second or third like that i experienced could get them out of the profession. Yeah we could use those valuable resources of that person's brain bumps. yeah if you're going to teach sixth grade. You'd better want to teach sixth grade. I've done it many times and you also want it. You better investing some glade plug ins to. You're not even gonna go there. Yeah you know that that's really important. You know just creating experience as you talk about what that means to create experiences for your students what what are some examples of things that you would use the best example i can give you is when i was teaching fourth grade. We had a the end of the year curriculum for writing was doing research reports and i had so many students who are just like in this bizarre. They were super into the news like they love. They would play news at recess. They would show me. They're whether man voice were mean too. I was like this is so different than any other group of kids that i've ever had and in the back of my head i was always like. When can i flip the script. And he used this in their learning and instead of doing the research reports which were on the different ecosystems of the world. I had them do live in the field news reports on a green screen. So let me paint the picture for you when it came down to it. They were reading their scripts against a green screen. There was another student holding the camera operating that another student creating in holding the cue cards. The girl who's recording right now. She's supposed to be on top of the mountains so another students blowing fan her while another students on a ladder dropping little white pace pieces of construction paper so we can have snow like. That's how all out. I went with that and i have to tell you. The learning that was had in that month of that unit was probably the best that i've ever experienced in my life things that i'm not telling you right now. That was the you know how you get that one group. Who can you can do anything with that. Was this group like this. These this group of kids from day. One could handle anything i gave them. They were working together. They were kind they were. He was a great class and they can handle something like that. It wouldn't have worked for every any other class. But i saw the opportunity. I took the risk and without risk. There's no in this time. It was a huge reward and it was. It was like one of those moments in teaching. Where you're like. yeah. I did that pretty cool. It is what i really love about what you said which is so so important. You know so many times. There's teachers you just do the same thing every year. No matter who their students are. And even if it's a really cool thing like you said it doesn't necessarily match who those students are and what i love is that you assessed. Who are the students. What do they love. What are they passionate about. And then you put the lesson on the assessment all into using their passions and creating that experience for them. What a rich learning experience. And when we do that when we really look at who our students are and what they love and what they're passionate about and then figure out how to create those experiences you know around those passions around those interests. It's so much richer for the students and their. It's a joy for them to do. It's a deeper learning experience for sure. I call myself a little bit of a disruptor in education because i think we get as educators so caught up in our routines and what we're comfortable with and there are things that i think need to be more normalized in education and it's what you just said a curriculum is fantastic. But the kids change from beginning to end of year and every group that you get is different so a curriculum should not be looked at as a script. It's a skeleton. It's our job as the teachers to put the meat on the bones to make it work for that given group so when i hear districts that said things to their staff like when we come in. We need to see happening like this this this. It's like do you know those kids in that room because how many hours have you spent with them. That teacher knows about those kids. That teacher knows what they need. And that should have the autonomy to change the curriculum in order to reach their brains to get them towards the goal. So things like that. I think in education is really need to be looked at closely and revamped net needs to become not taboo to outwardly. Say i couldn't agree more as a person who hasn't podcast called overthrowing education. Let's overthrow it to it's amazing. Well you know. I have to say i can't believe how hard i laughed Your april fools spelling. People haven't seen it. They can just stop listening right now. Go watch it and then come back. We'll still be here. we'll wait. It is so funny and Just what other funny things have you done with your students that are hit or not just some funny things that you can share i m. There's so many another highlight is. I convinced a group of kindergartners. This wasn't my class as actually teaching fifth at this time. But i would always like me told you use prep. Go read to them. Or run. Centers at convinced entire group of kindergartners. I am an actual mermaid and anytime they would ask me a question i would have the deal. It was so funny. They're like well. Why don't we just splash water on you and then you will change and i was like. Oh that's so funny like that's not enough water to do it and they were like okay. Then how about you go in the sink. I'm like there's one problem they're like what am too big made i liked about it was that they should you force them to think about like logic own. They'd right i mean it's it's a foray into logical thinking that they might not have done. Hope eventually you let them know that you weren't or to this day. Are they like twenty one and going. Yeah no he's mermaid seven now and they still made which is great but the funny thing is like there. It's like some kids are just like this can't be true but they wanna believe it's true so they choose to. Which is i think. It's pretty good I i actually did. Enjoy the aspect of how we did a lot of inquiry and questions based learning during that which was not the intention is actually during snack. Time is having a little bit fund with them now. Just kind of let their little minds go. Should.

Npr if you're listening this is my voice so this is a us. Laughing and giggling is like the perfect segue into my first question which is why is humor and laughter so important to the learning process. So i just. I think that i don't think i know i that laughter is the best medicine i can just like. Think back on so many different times in my life where i have just been like insane rats and laughing is what gets me out of that and when i look at my classroom or just school. In general really. School has a tendency to be a scary place for a lot of kids especially middle kindergarteners. Who don't even know at school and when they come in to me Fairl still and i. We have to house break them a little bit but they just humor is a great way to to enjoy life and to to be happy to be sound and to feel carefree into feel welcomed. And i've always done it in my classroom. Because it's just naturally who i am as a person but i just think it belongs in education so strongly because it helps us make school a place where kids to be rather than viewing it as a place where they have to be and that's ultimately the goal. Well for me at least it is absolutely now. That should be the goal for all of us. We want our students to love coming to school until love learning. I also think that laughter opens people's hearts so it opens their brains to being receptive to learning more. I know i love learn from teachers who are really funny like just. Those are some of my favorite teachers. Yeah i the kids. Just connect me so much more ones. I can make break them with laughter. You know a little bit. I'm glad you added with laughter with but when we can you know it's a little shy ones who come in apparent like they don't really talk to strangers might give me a day. Gimme a day you know and we we laugh and they're like great it's fun. Yeah yeah it creates a very safe space. I have a question for you that i was thinking about this because you previously taught older grades like fourth grade right. Yeah i taught. I've taught everything except for first second. Okay so how do you shift the humor that you can use with the other grades. Because i know. There's a kind of humor that i use when i'm teaching middle school and there's a kind of humor that.

Export-control panel: the EU meets on vaccines

"Today. European union leaders will hold a virtual summit to discuss improvements to the bloc's vaccine roll out. The most contentious topic will be plans to increase europe's ability to block exports of vaccines. The proposed legislation was unveiled yesterday by the train chief valdez dombrowski's commission has adopted and implementing revelation To adopt an expert authorization mechanism for vaccine was aim of preserving security of our supply chains. The wording is general of the intent specific. The proposal comes as a battle plays out between the eu and the british swedish company astra zeneca which has been accused of failing to honor its supply contract with europe. The move marks a sharp escalation in the us response to a floundering vaccination rollout at home beset by delivery delays supply issues and a third wave of the disease. Britain would be hard hit by those new rules because so far. It's benefited the most. From europe's vaccine exports but yesterday britain and the e u issued a joint statement. Aiming for a win win situation that would boost supplies for both that might sound like a cooling of tensions but the vaccine row has been long in coming and marks another jolt on an already bumpy road to a post brexit relationship.

"What do you think i was. I was a kindergartner once. Have you read that book. Lilly's purple plastic purse by kevin hankins. It's a fantastic book. No oh it's a good one of your kindergarteners. She brings her purple plastic purse to school teacher. Who's a man is like okay. We're not doing that right now. At circle time and she keeps bringing the purple plastic purse like everybody. Look at my my purse and so she gets in trouble with their teacher but she loves his teacher so much. Her mom has to walk through the appropriate apology letter. That will be good enough for this teacher. Who is god. Come to earth and here is not going to cut it. One hundred percent gonna read. That is it a kids book. I'm going to read that to them. Yeah it's so good because it's so captures that feeling of being in circle time like. I know i'm supposed to be quiet. I really want to you know. But i have a new purple plastic purse. That has two quarters inside and my supposed to not talk about myself is literally kindergarten like okay. Kindergartners and drunk adults the same thing. You know that girl that drunk girl at the bar and she loves the glass that they gave her. That has the bar logo on it so she stealing it and putting it in her purse and the bartender is watching her do it. She's making eye contact with him. He's telling her no and she's still putting in her purse. That's a kindergartner. And their glue. Stick i'm over here like stop gluing hands looking right at me. They hear it. They know that other hand is just or it's like wow man well okay but there's just so excited it's very. It's alarmingly the cutest stress. I've ever been under. We'll say that that's such a good way to say. My youngest last year was in second grade and because of my vast theatrical resume that i'm very proud of i was chosen to direct the second grade. Zoom version of the wizard of us. Oh mama oh yeah. It was thoughts and prayers time in my household and my poor husband..

MLB Spring training: A Look At the Detroit Tigers

"Innovative and all that I do think there's a chance of the Tigers offense could be better than people expect. And certainly the pitching staff could get to that point as well with all the young arms that they have. The problem is, I think they're very clearly the fifth place team in that division, so a lot of teams will take liberties with them will take advantage of them and also to keep in mind as you're watching spring training as you're kind of looking at these stats and the numbers and all of that. They're using a different baseball right now, then they will be using during the regular season and I don't know why Major League Baseball has not supplied those baseballs to the pictures for everyone to get used to them, but You know, we're also going to see Cold Weather games, which we didn't see last year early on in the season, so I think everybody offensively will be in for a rude awakening and the Tigers, probably to a higher degree. All right, So let me ask you, how does it happen when you have a Tiger's team and McGee Cabrera is still there, But when you have guys, I mean that line if they had just just a few years back Was like, ridiculous and you're going like this team. You know, they just need to, you know, sort of, and Verlander is still there And then all of a sudden now you look at that lineup and you look at the depth chart You like. Who are these guys? And they look, I know there's young prospects was always prospects, You know, cause you're trading away and you're dumping salary. I mean, Look, the Yankees are paying that luxury tax every year. I mean, they're going to make sure that they have their guys. It's It's tough for me to look at the Detroit franchise to where, you know. Pause. The mascot, maybe the best hitter on the team. It's one of those things where Mike Village in the Tigers were close, and Ellis was getting older. He knew this health was starting to fail all that he was going to stop at nothing to try and win a World Series with that team. And he had the right GM to do it. And Dave Dombrowski, whose very happy to spend a lot of the owner's money and then go somewhere else, So that was kind of the situation that happened there in Detroit was Village spent and spent and spent to try and get that world. Syria's before he passed away and it didn't happen. And then when his son took over the team, it was okay. We've got some really bad contracts that we need to unload. We either have to, you know, hope that we can jump in a time machine and fast forward things or make trades like the Verlander trade. You know, like getting rid of J. D. Martinez. Some of these guys that were very high priced players that were probably starting to reach the aging curve, starting to reach that point where they were going to start to decline a little bit faster. So that's just kind of what happened with the Tigers. And you know al Avila, whose the GM now came out and basically said, Look, We're not spending any money this year because we shouldn't we don't need to. We're planning our next year, so the Tigers probably will get that payroll back up. But hopefully it's it's smarter spending than

Is Mitch McConnell Rigging The Game?

"Other news, there's the other branch of Congress or the other house. Of Congress. The Senate and everyone knows their Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell is unshakable and ruthless, and he's going to maximize his power however cam, but it is also the case the death of Justice Ruth Bader GINSBURG has taken us to uncharted territory. There are very real political pressures that are going to affect how the next several months play out. Mitch McConnell does not care about being charged with the Crisi but the raw politics of this moment themselves are not uncomplicated. As it was with the affordable care act remember Mitch McConnell had a lot of bravado about that and he failed famously and humiliatingly to replace the law. Here's mayor discuss across pressures. He faces longtime McConnell Allah Gist Jane Mayer Chief of Washington correspondent New Yorker wrote an incredibly insightful profile McConnell back in April this weekend row quote from Mitch McConnell keeping a Senate. Majority matters more than the Supreme Court. Jamie. It's great to have. Let's start with that because it seems to me there's two imperatives here. Everyone says about McConnell the two things he cares about is keeping the Senate majority and being Senate majority leader. Judges the Federal Bench, and there is a way to interpret the politics of the moment that there's a little bit attention between those two imperatives. How do you see it? Well, I mean there is I mean he wants to get obvious wants to hold the majority wants to stay being majority leader. And, this is going to be the crowning moment of his career to have yet one more justice on Supreme Court here we can get him through and he's promised trump of course that he's going to have a vote on this, and so how do you do this the problem? The problem for McConnell is it's unclear if he can keep the majority in the Senate. It's a dicey election year for him. There are a number of racist. They're very close and he doesn't want to do anything that's going to hurt the endangered members of his caucus. So he's got to try to juggle the schedule in some way that doesn't put those members on the spot in a way that will hurt them. So he's the first thing he's going to do an, and surely his done is canvas. Those members find out exactly how they feel about how this this process would affect their races. And then, and then way that in terms of whether it be better have a vote before or after the election. So. It's it's. It's. It's it's tricky but he is nothing if not clever about things like this this is he he? Very early on in his career, he ran for office from a district where he hadn't been resident in residence long enough and he vowed after that, he would never again ignore the rules, and since then he's become kind of a master of the rules, the more arcane the better. And he just he loves talking to the parliamentarian in the Senate and figuring out sort of the the most devious ways to get what he wants. The most sort of obvious pressure here. Just talking about this and I think it's pretty interesting. There's a bunch of folks who are up. In who are imperilled where it's not clear That going ahead with this would be helpful them. We have a bunch of pulling out today showing majority of people oppose it. Those numbers will probably change as they converge towards the polarization and everything else. But like Cory Gardner is down in all the polls and Colorado, he's in a state that Democrats have carried. Now a bunch and plan to carry again Martha. mcsally sally is down a to mark Kelly. You know they're on the sort of aggressor side here in terms of public opinion. It does seem like they've kind of don't care. It doesn't seem like there's a jump together mentality here in terms of getting them to come out whether it was him or not a publicly for those. Well I think. He's GonNa. Be Looking at McConnell will look at each of these races and I think you can almost imagine that he's written off. Gardner in. Colorado, and makes out the in Arizona. So he's not going to change his plan just for them unless he thinks it's going to save them and you'd probably thinks it won't save them and he's already given collins kind of buy in Maine. So it gets you down to the racist that are really going to matter in this are probably it's it's probably Tillis in North Carolina, Joni Ernst in Iowa, and Danes in in Montana, and if McConnell feels that those three or not endangered by going head, he may just gun it. You know and and try try to get I think though that in addition to just thinking about each of these races and how it affects each of the races, there's something else. He's probably got to think about, which is the overall look of this thing if if it appears to the American public that he is one set of rules for Democrats and there's another set of rules he's got for Republicans here, one Senate rules for America and another set of rules for whoever trump nominates at this point, it looks like he's reading the game it looks corrupt. It looks like a naked power, grab an and it's ugly and that could actually create a backlash I think that both he and trump have to think about. It it might really bother a lot of people in this country to think that that it's it's just too corrupt game in Washington. Yeah, I. think that's a correct reading of both where the polls are and the political risks they run and I think it's notable that McConnell has committed to vote but not win and I thought. This was also notable. He wrote this dear colleague later re basically says I don't say anything don't lock yourself into position. Let it give it give us time to work over the coming days. We're GONNA come under tremendous pressure from the press to announce how he will handle the coming nomination for those who are unsure how to answer for those inclined to oppose giving nominee a vote I urge you all to keep your powder dry Dombrowski and collins. Have not heeded that but Mitt Romney said declined today saying anything I know Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania I fully expect will support moving forward. But that that to me, it was interesting because the timing here and the sort of needle to thread is not nothing I think we'll try to do it and the odds are in their favor they will. But because of exactly what you and unseeded from the political standpoint, it's not clear that this is help for them politically in the short term. I think it may not be I. Mean I think also it's going to energize the base on both sides here for and the thing is that when it comes to the energizing the base, the base that needs more energizing really is probably on the Democratic side and you've already seen it happen I, mean look at the amount of money that act Lou raise you know practically overnight a hundred, million dollars two, hundred and sixty. Now it's one hundred and sixty million dollars. Shipping shocking about money. Shocking money an and I think the other thing that it might do is from was doing some reporting two days. I think it may really energize kids younger voters because. You know they were kind of holding their nose, a lot of them about Joe Biden it wasn't an exciting. It didn't seem you now like there was that much reason to do it. Now there's a reason that a lot of young people are GONNA see they're gonNA look they're gonNa see Roe v Wade is in the balance they're going to see a four Bul healthcare act and possibly anything to do with insurance for preexisting conditions and they're looking at the future this is going to. Their. Lives for the this is a this is a decision that has tremendous implications for everybody in the country and it's GonNa be clear and so I, you know it may turn you know help turn out. The Democrats who were young. Six three Roberts court climate. Regulation jurisprudence. A. Favorable to the kinds of solutions. That are necessary. Do you think? Ultimately McConnell himself is up and I don't think he's. He's personally a lot of trouble against say, McGrath at least the pulling now but there are also just a bunch of seats that weren't supposed to be in play that really do seem like they are. There's A Texas poll that has cornyn barely up. There's a Mississippi poll out today that has. Chrissy Hyde Smith a just a few points on Mike espey. There's the Iwa Joni Ernst race I mean it's wild how wide the sort of battlefield has gotten for him to try to hold this thing together. It's it's really volatile and and and the thing is it. What it does is it puts the Republicans on the spot about they've been doing kind of a split that's broader and broader that gotta keep the trump face and and but that's not enough for in many places to get reelected, and so they've got to do is add in. The moderates the you know suburban women particularly and got a candidate here who for a nominee for the supreme court that is truly the choice of the evangelical part of the trump ace it by very much alienate moderate women in the suburbs and in other places especially over things like abortion where sixty two percent of the people in this country saver. Abortion. As keeping it legal and don't WanNa go backwards. So it's it's. It's I think it's a it's it's a it's a it's a risky thing for some ways. You people think it's all into such a gift. Not, necessarily think that's right. Read on the situation Jane Mayer thanks as always great reporting and inside appreciate it. Great to be with you.

"Hello welcome to the show. The Italian peninsula is pulsating at the prospect of the the Italian. I described the anticipation level. Here is above average shackling shocks. The only major daily Steve Nickel Craig Burley Guide Makoni is with US too. He is certainly quaking at the prospect of you venter's against Inter. We can see they are the top two teams in in Syria. After six games into perfect with six wins out of six events is just the two points behind them. The automakers actually actually make it into slight favorites to win this at home. You've into sit close to two to one for the win just over two to one on the draw gap. Let's start with you. It's always a massive game but many are calling this the biggest WTI Italia in close to a decade why simply because it's really the first time in close to a decade that that interacts legitimate contenders they've won every game name thus far in they're coming off a Champions League week where they went to the camp now in Barcelona and for more than an hour they play really really well and then perhaps had a dip at the end and so all these factors together coupled with all the all the subjects here obviously you've got doggone thing and Bep in Mata going back to take on to take on new Venice. You've got you know geico go dean against skips. Ronaldo renewing old rivalries there. You've got show many things going on on the side as well. I think there is a sense that the people are ready after so many years of vendors dominance for for somebody to go and deliver the title and it would be quite a story if it were who does it contain against Syria sorry of course gap the battle of the recently deposed Chelsea coaching say. Let's let's get to the teams that you expect to see out there. GAP STARTS OUT WITH INTER-WAR. What is it starting eleven and we look at blue collar. Who Missing Out in mid week? He's should be fit again so he's up front. There's no Alexis Sanchez who suspended of course foolish suspended I might add highly would've started anyway Dombrowski of coming in on the right wing Mozart elite for beyond that it's really interest- best eleven recenter backs and really explosive midfield led by Stefan with and Brockovich rough and what about event is Gab. Renaldo is starting to click yeah some debate about whether it's developed Renaldo whether it's GonNa be Wayne and who Seattle upfront some debate over the formation I should do. There's a lot more than certainty here which weird when you think society team we know that his best eleven we'll have douglas on the wing and that that four three three with church turns before for two off the ball but there is no douglas costs are so the thinking is we're going to see somebody in the whole it could be Aaron Ramsey. We will the Aaron Ramsey it could be. There's also the option of been lining up as sort of the third man in that three prong attack in midfield. Probably what what right now you would say three and ambulatory continued to write back in part because the show and then levels out in part because he's done a pretty decent job there and obviously community but we know that he's not gonna be back until the new year so it's partnering Pucci Delicious Delicious Prospect. Isn't it great big one for Ramsey's relatively house played the GOP said they'd give teams a bit more hard to gauge because Sarah has changed around and they have a big squad but as another market down for inter who started this season fantastic well okay had a big challenge in mid week which the the Ba- lost whoo certainly won't disgraced and the debt of CIANCI's against the US side who haven't quite had the straps yet. I think gobs mentioned this before. I think one of the big things enter is not just the fact that they've got. Some new faces in the playing field is the fact that Antonio Conte has given the funds hope as well and you know. Here's is a guy that goes to ut lingering around seventh previous even towns around it goes to Chelsea has a has a bad star tones it round that season they went new league and to get off the six games in the League of Women Star. I think giving everybody a and rightly so I'll look forward to but the two biggies is tested all coming within four or five days and then you know got good gauge of where enter our by by Sunday night I coming off that loss against since Barcelona as well I I'm interested to see coney goes both because of the Madrid in bothell on an yes they played well for no doubt shed but ultimately law is he going to try and set trying to save some energy because they they gave me or will he try and take advantage of the modern pop because it's five against four my opinion of safely we three you. You know sorry one which which we did. He go accompanied my mind up whether he goes on the front foot or whether it goes conservative. Yep You get the sense out there. Slow Start Conventis is starting to enjoy full now and Maurizio. Sorry starting to figure things out as you'd expect. This event is a still you've enters the daytime daytime defending champions for for a reason. I still think that this is you've enters. That hasn't hit full stride just yet. I feel they can go up a game or two and I act who is coming would be playing seemingly for the long term now. I don't think he's found his confidence either. Just yet alongside Baluchi intend to catch a new Venice. This is about as good a time. No parental yeah to get something out of it. I can key players Craig fee. Oh you who stands out on either side of the ball who the potential gain decide his sentence. He's playing Brnovich. Didn't the hard graft in the middle of the macaca could come back in the game. You know mind united we were critical as GONNA show up in a real big games. They don't come much bigger than this. He didn't play mid week so so he's he's. He's fresh off blocking the site so he'd be a big shot mentioned from you have a lane how does young Honduras partnership with Benicio Gab. I wonder mental block. Perhaps for into the get over here. They've only beaten you've inches one time in the last thirteen in Syria. I don't think so we look I mean have a whole lot of issues mental and otherwise have had over the last decade but you know I'm not a believer in those statistics. I don't see how it's relevant. What happened eight games ago ten games ago when it was different players? It was a different manager different manager on the on the you've aside as well of course obviously when you're when you ain't that it does feel as if you you're kind of always climbing a mountain. It's a very Sisyphean pursuit if you will but that's add any dog team especially in the first six months months what they're never lacking is mentality so. I don't think that's going to be an issue in issue for them at all. I think give this game this game. I don't think it's going to be won or lost by mind games or whatever this game is going to be won or lost either either tactically if one of these two teams and weirdly Qaddafi who's the one who's perhaps more likely to throw a curve ball and change things up rather than Cold Day. One there or it's going to be won by individuals because you've got some tremendous game changing individuals on the page from from merely Ghannage to China Rinaldo obviously to as as we heard from Craig the likes Consi Louder Martinez whose looked sharp and maybe lukaku offers a different type of challenge stevie could possibly be a game decided by which defense plays better the the defense has been spectacular. They've conceded feed. No there's only one mistakes in my head as could game could be decided by Rinaldo. Yeah I mean the truth is I'm listening in right now. This could be a good thing to play event. Remember l'ennemi vent is no last couple seasons regardless of the monitor players have we sat and watched little about how the moving the ball well decree logic get the feeling that was more event as it never played. GUETTA fought to get resolved. They always get when at my house most. There's one team and there's one. Guy Renaldo who comes up trump scored in both games at the San Sierra last season prediction timeshare. which way do you see this going? I in and to get the job done. You know I think we've seen enough from into suggests that and as I said on a standby this is as good time as any to to catch Venice. I think to get three points. Golden Lost Zero sorry at the wrong country park for that aw just particularly say come on it was nothing to do with. We talked about insurance. There's nothing to be by defendant grip pace in the bowl from massey the touch from Suarez just go finish one of those things it wasn't all over the place yes they had to defend but they were beaten by couple of Grit Gold folks and I think that gives them heartful game because the well I'm GonNa go for an intimate on win and another Markelle Dome for them in the League to who they're going to be a Hatcher Kuni. Event is don't lose. Don't lose so you're saying say saying juice. Hugh had junior bets into we've all event is always come up trumps. You County back against him in a big game blue gabby. You get you get the casting vote here. What's going to happen diplomatically. Sit on the fence here. See something I think into draw points for the first time in the season. I'm going to go with with a high scoring hiring draw to to something like that. Maybe even more I know you wouldn't normally think so. Look at city is a game. It's going to be tight but I think there are enough off individuals out there and you know this is still Saturday's. You've and I could see a game with practically different outcome but along the same lines of what we saw when they played Napoli so basically gobbled says you won't lose that'd be Eddie can place for the girls rose for a high scoring draw the rest of the Syria fixtures on Saturday and Sunday looking like this

Red Sox's Chris Sale to miss rest of MLB season with elbow injury

"There is not a Tommy John surgery in the immediate future of Chris sale that according to the Boston Red Sox however their eighties will be shut down for the next six weeks after consultation with doctor James Sanders all that so ominous whenever you have a consultation with Dr James Andrews Chris sale's diagnosis was confirmed he does have inflammation in his left elbow it didn't bother him in his last start which was a week ago but he was treated with a plasma in injection I got to do what I wrote my page I I wrote down some notes as always about some of the the big topics for the show I wrote down treated with the plasma infection in it's a good thing I caught myself there he treated with a plasma injection platelet rich plasma injection which is supposed to help speed up the reduction in the swelling but he has been shut down for six weeks which essentially would take him out for the rest of the regular season the red Sox are still technically part of the American League wild card race I think we can essentially eliminate them from me AL east race there now sixteen games back though they have won five in a row but the World Series champs right now if you're looking at the wild card standings are six out of that second while Kerr which currently is in the possession of the Tampa Bay rays interesting to hear what former baseball general manager Jim Boden had to say about the sale injury on CBS sports H. Q. firstly we know is that the red Sox Dave Dombrowski Chris sale and the medical people are not being transparent and they're not telling us the whole story so what we do know is he had the first MRI in Boston they saw something they didn't like and they sent the Jim Andrews and Birmingham Alabama same thing I always did when I was GM of the Reds are nationals you get a second opinion you always go to Dr Andrews to get that now he came out afterwards and said well it's inflammation the elbow and now we can avoid Tommy John surgery for now for now that's the ominous part for now let's hope that it is that for now and for always for Chris sale because I I always hated for pictures sort or any baseball player would have to go through the Tommy John button at this point I think they've got a more hopeful than positive there's no way to know if it's going to get better of it's going to get worse if he's gonna need that surgery but it would be far worse for the red Sox after the big contract they gave him if he was out for next season as well right now six eleven so it's not been a season that he would say is is anywhere close to his standard with a four point four zero we are right he does have a really good a strikeout to walk ratio and a lot of this has to do with the ball Pat a lot of this has to do with you the offense behind in its it was a miserable start for the red Sox rotation and they never really fully recover but the bullpens been even worse so it's just it's not been a season that the champs would've expected with relatively the same line up just obviously what's the difference in the bull pen so Chris sale pretty much out the rest of the

"Here's what you're gonna do. It really sounds to me like people have juries ear little bit, and maybe that's gonna point him in the right direction. But I I guess that is a question. He's been a GM for eight plus years. Kanagawa by like that in his position while he's focused on so many different things three hundred sixty five days a year, actually, get better to the point at drafting in developing to the point where it makes a significant difference in the organization, you know, we talked about this on the last podcast. We did write about, Jerry. I said, you know, and the clip somewhere, but the point was Jerry didn't doesn't have people around him as yes met shirt around that people around him that will push back a little bit and give their opinion. And I don't believe that you can surround yourself be successful people with different ideas every day with star series and a bunch of different areas. And if you don't have people that are going to challenge, you you're not gonna get any better only listen to yourself, right? And if you know if he's made that switch and good for him. I think at least a little bit to what extent I don't know that's difficult to tell him obviously, not in that front office. But we used to hear the stories of Billy Beane. Theo Epstein for Dave Dombrowski for years and in in. What I was sitting in my office. And Joe schmo came up with this thought and said, hey, you got a second. And we came up with this idea that we thought. Yeah. Let's do this. And you're like, okay. These guys are collaborators like yes, it's on him. But these guys are collaborators. I mean, those are famous stories about THEO Epstein when a free agent when an agent for for a free agent goes and talks to the Red Sox. They're eleven guys in the room, and they're all engaging in the conversations, and they're all involved and their opinion matters. When you go to Seattle, you're talking to one guy that was the story not only with Jerry, but with Jack early on. But with Jerry, I think that's changed a little bit it, and we started to hear some stories about how hey that that trade with Tampa wouldn't come together of Jerry wasn't listening to some of the young people. He's brought on to to to contribute to their baseball operations department. And they went out and made that deal and that was the Denard span Alex column deal early in. What was that? In may. I think it's changing again, I think the question is how much how far will he allow that to go and? What kind of a difference does that make of drafting and develop because now he's got his guy at at scouting drummer year one. It was still McNamara with with Jerry here. It's been Scott hundred for the last couple years. So I guess we'll see he's got his guy here. I'm not sure if he really had his guy in Anaheim or not. But I guess we'll see that. That's why I'm in. You know, the jury is out on that portion of what Jerry DiPoto can or can't do. But you're right that the track record says, no. But do I just stick with the track record? I kind of sit back and watch that he's on the right? And it's not fun to save because, you know, pretty close to my heart. Sure. Sure. I feel like he's earned the right with what he's done to retool. The bigly Rosser and man, then entry mortuary. It was great. Long best traded straight ever made in your mind, right? Twenty grand for Babe Ruth. But you got something for Andrew more better significantly better. Yeah. Got a Cup of coffee. Back. Online is to me that was a great trade. And and he's done a good job. So because he's done a good job plenum position to compete with prospects. Or guys that maybe there development can get something out of the big level sooner rather than later earned the right to see if you can grass. I'm not sold yet. And it's gonna take me a minute Flesch's guys develop turn off some guys have been urp. Can't hold him and gives injuries that happens. Right. Especially position players guys have their element slowed. And there are some successes..

Danish bank CEO quits amid money laundering scandal

"Banks CEO will step down amid allegations that the lender. He oversaw was at the center of a major European money laundering scandal. Thomas Balkans said, quote, it is clear. The Danske Bank has failed to live up to its responsibility in the case of possible money laundering in Estonia for more. We're joined by Bloomberg intelligence senior banking analyst, Phil Richards, Phil greater have you here in the studio. So essentially, the CEO stepping down as the big news this morning alongside this internal probe which has now been published by Danske Bank talk us through what we should be taking away from this probe. And this report as we have it. Okay. Yeah. Thanks to main issues. People can be looking for what I saw the amount of the funds involved on the transaction number that giving the moment is about two hundred billion euros. And in the air number. They've only examined about six thousand of the fifteen thousand I'm clients of the Estonian branch. So the only partway through the whole process, so we would expect more to trickle through India. 'cause that's the first part and the second part, of course, what people into no, no, what are you going to do about this? And what's our finds downscale likely to get? Yes. Indeed. And until you know, the size and scope, I guess it's difficult to get to those numbers. Why did this leading Danish Bank than get caught up in suspected Russian money laundering. The the part of the business. That's in question. Here is the Estonian part, isn't it? And we see actually the Estonian FSI just commenting now downscale report confirms the results of its checks. The Estonian FSA head commenting on dance. Get in an emailed statement this morning. Yes. It is interesting one and they acquired the subsidiary the plunge in Estonia when they bought Sampo Bank, the finish Bank back in two thousand seven they looked at the time, and they were going to bring onto the dance ca systems at the time. It concluded. It's too costly too difficult to do Nicole says the financial crisis going on. They kind of got put on on the stand and therefore the never took over on his own internal controls and money laundering dombrowski's. So essentially the Estonian unique kind of fell off the radar. If we look at the question, how Dansk is systems and controls didn't spot this earlier. Yes, that's a fair assessment. Although in report today, it does say that back in about two thousand twelve thousand eleven up to about ten percent of total profit over revenues was coming from Stony bunch. So yes it ticket on the side. But at the same time, it was still a material contribution. That's the oval on branch, and what comes next I guess we're looking for more on the size and scope, so this two hundred billion euros figure that could get bigger could it here. This is just this. Tell us more about what that two hundred billion represents two hundred billion is a total amount of transactions which went through this Stony branch over the entire period from two thousand seven thousand and fifteen south bay. The biggest number they telling you. They're not telling us that there's something suspicious about all of those. No, the not. But what they are saying of the six thousand two hundred customers, they looked out of the total fifteen thousand the vast majority of those customers had suspicious, and it doesn't mean. Nothing wrong for more. They seen. Look if those clients were what those transactions were Phil analysts surveyed by Bloomberg have estimated that downscale may need to pay about eight hundred million dollars worth of fines for these breaches. I'm just kinda wondering how 'bout figure chimes with what we've been hearing today from the report, and and how the to what kind of parallels. We can draw the power to Zion. Jeez. They had about a nine hundred million dollar fine. I'm just a couple of weeks ago from what we've seen so far. This does seem to be much bigger case for downscale. And so I think at this point. That could well over a billion one just briefly one of our guests on TV earlier was saying that the the US regulator is going to be crucial here if the US says that this Bank is not able to actually accounts party in in US dollar transactions than that would be really material to the share price. Yes. It does doesn't that takes? Hold ex ballgame it's not just making a fine. So we're going to give Dante. Gets involved in some business. They can get involved in that. Of course is absolutely as much bigger than we will look see whether that happens, then
