Late Leipzig Victory Heats up Title Race

"We'll stop in the bundesliga. We thought no leipzig get thrown away. The opportunity to keep pushing by munich. There were two knelt down halftime against borussia moenchengladbach but a brilliant second half performance and a late goal from soil with see them beat god back by three goals to to to continue to put the pressure on bind at the top of the table. Janocko fuel itself is with us yet. Thank goodness we still have a title race. Just thank goodness to halftime. There was so many analyzes marker also sorting out gladbach. There will be calm now before he takes over. And then livesey made the bundesliga excited for two minutes with the irony at halftime. But thank god. Thank god for everybody. Neutral love love the bundesliga. There was fantastic. Second half of our show and they slowly came back. Glad back more tired had some chances on contracts but policy and kuku and solo there so many attackers. It's lives. You haven't score enough goals after chicken and van left them after last season but they produce tonight and we haven't excitement we have. We have a tight race in germany. Dan could you imagine. Say those words. I know i don't know very much unlikely. After the to say bad in the first half. Yeah yeah their web bad but but say having said that. I mean they had a ball the lot. They didn't create a lot gluck. Unbelievable efficient mcconnell had one of those half where look like the most clumps defender being around after being the most attractive defender around and toronto and half on peres demanded to nil and everything look like well typical vion after their gala show earlier on the day and now we have this situation fribourg against lives on friday if they win that top of the league at least for twenty four hours then the big game between via munich endorsements says you mentioned yance still two point separates vine and live sick. Let's switch attention to that wind show for buying a day. They were certainly facts that the way this game ended you. They could just keep scoring. Every few minutes on the will keep on scoring. I mean live on dose keno. Getting closer to that magic gaffe miller torty goals in a season scoring two goals today but there was a whole wasn't ed when they played their home three three losing in frankfurt against eintracht. And then they're back to the norm. Winning high in champions league winning five one against cologne. it's not like five or six goals better than them on the page but they just so efficient gerrad sky. Think a ended up with three assists. Today nabu just scoring for fun. Uneven ship matang scoring so i mean by will be all the way of the understatement of the nights at just into content main if levin dusky reaches at forty gaumont. It's unbelievable because then you compare yourself with the best goal Of all time and yes you could say the by a munich was fantastic. But you can say the same about this team. I mean we are talking about whole on emba- pay silva or were all these goalscoring sensations around europe the moment but levin dose gays to complete striker but the the goal getter part of his game is unbelievable to he's hungry and passionate for goals is unbelievable and you saw the way to the goals. Today you had a you finally got. Thomas miller on to fourteen seconds to make an assist for him. I just turned around. He knows all the time where where he is on the full patriots and if he beats the record i still doubted but he's getting closer meanwhile bruce feldman turning on in the second half in proved to be a comfortable win in the end. I'll tell you what twenty twenty one jaden sanitary. It's very different than twenty. Two thousand nine hundred and sounds like christmas press the reset. Button is incredible. Twenty twenty cents show. At least the half of it was very influenced with all that happened around us some monsters united being on the phone all the time. Hundred and twenty million hundred million europe but now he's on fire and the way he's playing at the moment he's playing with all his strength all the passionate he's running all the time he's body. Language is turn like hundred and eighty degrees unbelievable. I also today. I a writer who scored that goal. And i think that that sums up the way dole put his playing at the moment ailing all on. I'm not sorry. Putting in northern region after solo scored for for leipzig later tonight. But but then allen all on one against one against goalkeeper typically get up. We'll try himself. Just give it the ball away. And i think that sums up that door at the moment. They won three games in a row. Intense being under pressure as being a lame duck after the appointment of mark but they are back on track another only three points behind eintracht frankfurt for that very very valuable champions league place for they make it. Yeah yes. I think they will. Because i don't think well eleven games eintracht frankfurt had and with no losses i winston role. Then losing it to to bremen and as long as they can keep on winning these kind of games which has been difficult for them. They're lower teams like being felt today. They will keep on doing it but mind you next game. It's frankfurt against got. That could be a frankford. Win on there and Munich and then we can have that six points again. Because volts berg are winning games just like behind everybody under the radar of everybody of body so they could end up taking place in the bundesliga

What is going on with Gamestop and the stock market?

"I want to talk about the crazy stuff. Going on the stock market game stop has been all in the news but they're just one of a handful of stocks that have been going just nuts so in the last few weeks. Also have some great news for you on health insurance. If you have suffered a job loss. So i wanna talk to you about the game. Stop thing It's quite a buzz right now. My i knew that this had really taken off my fifteen year. Old son wanted me to explain to him. What the deal was with game. Stop because he's looked at game. Stop is just a has been loser for a long time. You know they've closed tons of stores. There's stores that are still open. What kind of Sad rundown and. It's something that time seems to have passed by but the value of game stock dame stop has climbed game stop stock as climbed climbed and climbed and climbed and you may have heard some of the reporting about how this was really fueled on read it and how elon musk was saying. Hey buy game stock. It's going to the moon. What about spacex. Aren't they going to the moon or mars or something anyway so this is become a mania and it's been the revenge of very young investors and so they have been bidding up the stock and it's been people doing so in very small purchases huge numbers of people and game stock really doesn't have a lot of intrinsic market value wall street insiders big time money people have been playing a game called selling the stock shore which you may have heard the expression. Last few days it's a financial maneuver where you're heading that you can buy a stock today. You can borrow a stock today and then find the borrowing shares later at lower prices. It's called shorting a stock and that was probably a terrible explanation or definition but the idea is the big money crowd on wall street had been betting on the extinction of game stop and then what the small investors have done. Why do people in their teens and twenties is they've been doing the opposite. They've been pushing the value of game. Stop up and then people who would bat on the shares dropping had to do what's called unwind their positions by shares of inflating stock price. And as they buy more that pushes the price up in order to close out their positions and limit their losses. It has nothing to do with the actual real value of game. Stop. there's also been happening with Remember they used to be the hottest device. People carried a blackberry with. There's also been happening with their stock and think about five or six others where on message boards people are saying. Hey let's run. This went up and they've been doing it now. Generally when people collude. That is an illegal activity but this is not traditional private collusion. These are individuals stating on message boards and as best as securities. Laws work. Today as i understand them. It's not at all illegal but the reality is these stocks that are being pushed up. Have none of the intrinsic value that the market suddenly is saying they're worth in so this will in where these usually end with. A bubble is the value of these stocks are going to deflate so it is what they call in investing theory the greater fool. Who is the last one standing. Who rides it all the way down. You don't wanna be you being the one who has to say coulda woulda shoulda sold earlier and i wanna know from joe and krista have either view been fighting the shorts on any of these stocks. I have not. But i have to take clark my fifteen year old son last night sent me a text while it was already in bed and said what's my social security number and i was like well. Why do you wanna know that. And he said. I'm opening a robin hood account. And i was like you can't fifteen. He was like. I want to do it anyway and he wanted to. He wanted to get in on the stock trading. And he's like one or two open an account with your name and social security number now like -lutely not so i'm definitely gonna play this this Make him listen to the segment of the podcast. So our fifteen year olds are really end to this. I know they shouldn't hang out together and start start their own little investing company. Joel your oldest child is six five seven. Seven is your seven year old wanting to open a robin hood account now. This isn't on her radar yet. But that's definitely a sign of the times though right i mean when when things get this outta whack this crazy with certain specific stocks and so much relation Even the younger kids like are just like anybody can get rich in the stock market. Let's do it and yeah. I think you're right. This is right. It's got them interested. But what. I worry about a good point but what i worry about is this is nineteen ninety. Nine all over again. When a bunch of younger small investors got hyped up on all the original what we now call the dot bomb stocks and ended up losing all that money and then forward were senecal when untrusting of distrusting untrusting distressing of investing and. So the reality is i hold to my dole thing. I'm a dull person that with investing. You always start core. You always start really wide with dullsville where you own a large swath of the stock market for the long haul and then on the edges of that was called explore. If you wanna do stuff like this which is investing. That's really gambling. Then go right ahead but never batting the real money you need for your future on

Christophe Robin: Get Stronger Hair with a Healthy Scalp

"Scrub end like why is it. Important to detox. Are scalp scalp. Yeah so everyone always talks about skin. Care how right and we always focus on face But our scalp is really just an extension of our based. Nobody really knows. The effect with healthcare You think haircare you're thinking you're strand you're thinking keeping your ends You know shiny and keeping split ends away But when we talk about scalp it's usually a little dirty and nobody ever wants to talk about it. so you get. That's where all of your issues cover right. Like if you have any eggs demise or dandruff any sort of europeans whether it be from color styling anything like that. It really starts with your skull. So taking care of scalp is super super wherein using a good shampoo. That's really going to give you your your beautiful hair on the long-term Because that's all we want right. We don't wanna do endless treatments to end all of these time consuming things Like i said we're we're not big into styling or shampoos. The reason for that is he knows you find a lot of still counts while everyone loves a good silicon from time to time. You know for those really important saturday night. Fun nights that we used to have on that we will get back to you spoon. That's not sort of thing. You gotta clean your scout afterwards. Exclusively said it's like you know going to bed with makeup on your face cadillac. Your scalp reads just like you. Let your skin. And that's exactly with our with our sea salt scrubbed and i love that you know. Listen for for those of us who are in the northeast. the colder climates The northwest for those of us who are in the north or in colder climates in the winter You know we. I get the itchy scalp right. My scott gets dry so it's not even about over styling or over shampooing. I think a lot of it is just whether rated definitely every year every year. And i i talk dirty about scalise. I can deandre right. It's just like you said. We live in the northeast new york. Especially we get super dry super flaky Especially if you colored to you now through times that can dry scalp so the good thing about this sea salt scrubbers Going to kind of get rid of all that those little sea salt crystals getting deep blakey said it gives you a queen feeling but without stripping your hair Similar to the ocean you go into the ocean sea. Salt water come out. Your skin is like really glowing any feel really great. Same effect on your scalp. I mean another thing that is totally sort of been ruined for me. Now that i knew that like carrington and any sort of sodium chloride do not go for some reason. I thought it was sulfates. Isn't that embarrassing. I i used to get it once a year. And i thought it was the sulfates in. Khartoum are good. But it's not it's sodium chloride. Yeah any sort of foaming agent you really don't want to mess with with Undocked everything you did okay. How okay so now. Let's talk about you know once we have detox star scalp in terms of keeping things healthy. What are sort of the next step in. You know making sure that we're fortifying are hairless. Say so actually in our world detoxing kind of like the last step so i'm gonna walk you through good okay all routine on how to properly wash your hair rate. It's super super common But it's a very common misconception that people don't understand and everybody that i talk to. You is like oh my god. I've been washing my hair the wrong way my entire life so i just wanted to walk you through a few steps on how to really you now. Detox your scalp. Get that clean feeling again. In a proper way their steps to get there and tell us like writer yes cash so the first step is actually detangling. Something super simple. How many times have you washed your hair and then have not even brushed it before you hop in the shower. I never russia before. I hop in the shower. You just take out your body a ponytail or whatever you have and you. Top shot right. Super super comment. Christopher always said these. I became really gonna stimulate your scalp It's also going to help natural in in your air and to help distribute the oils from your scalp down to your end's okay. Well we have. Our barbara still brash. again recommend bristle because it actually mimics the church in that we have in our hair naturally as you can see. They're all different life. Bristles anakin evenly distribute evenly. Brush your hair and get all of it the strands in your hair. Look your head over. Yes go ahead is as i see you doing this motion so you wanna do it upside down your over and i would totally demonstrate. My hair is curled today. For you look gorgeous. You look gorgeous ready to rush it. I'm going to look like a duck. It's also kind of volume so it's a really amazing little dole so the but answer the boar bristles because i know that is sort of like the gold standard of like your good brush. Do absolutely need that. You really think you do I've been using it for years. I am not the plastic. If you don't her for all war or you wanna get away from all plastic. You can kind of do a mix between a plastic board but really get get used to the warriors let so much better for your hair Once you use it to you'll also realize it doesn't tangle like sometimes you know when you get useless plastic bristles they kinda get a twisted around the bristle oranje. Get on this nothing. No no not so honestly like if we are making an investment and i mean how much is aboard. But they're they're they're not cheap but they're not expensive expensive rush for hundred dollars an audio for life as long as you bike Wash it gently Yeah i told that you're gonna use every single day so worth the investment. Okay got gotta add that to my list fair or you having a shower and wash your hair. Turn your head over. Start on the ends and with your scalp to ends in really detangle and get your hair. You know nice than practice for your shampoo. Okay with statue. Is the shampoo right now. Everyone thinks you glob your shampoo and then you do this right wrong You wanna start with a little bit. a little. Bit goes a long way especially our products. Very heavily concentrated Start with a little amount distribute into your scout. Don't worry about your ends. And then you want to ask a little bit of water in jeopardy massage the shampoo into your scalp so using your fingertips circular motions and just you your scalp right when you add the water. The shampoo is gonna run to your ends the reason why when he shampoo like this if rakes your hair more prone to split in that way and it does

We've creamy vanilla ice cream and let it melted a little bit because you don't want to completely frozen and it was absolutely delicious and some of the people on twitter would say in celebration also the vetter always sought the annetta. Look like cuttlefish vice versa. thursday night always shopping night. Vinet gone by eight o'clock It was supposed to lost to wake lived on these during three power cut. Three power cuts. We just left them outside the floor out. Veneta was only served in a sunday dinner. it was a classier ice cream any other night. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott stepping down at end of June

"Last night. Perhaps the least surprising news of twenty twenty one came out that larry scott was stepping down stepping down being a charitable word as the pac twelve commissioner. Nobody better to talk to than jon wilner. Who covers that league. Expertly out there on the west coast john. Great to have you with us and here we go beginning the new year and things are upside down in the pac twelve. What else is new. Good afternoon thanks while yeah There's never a shortage of Of off the field developments. That's for sure on the field. That's kind of the same same story for many years now but but It's it's pretty interesting conference off field. I remember distinctly. It seemed like yesterday although it was many years ago. When when larry was brought in he was brought in from professional tennis everybody raved about him. He did things different. He had media days in new york. He smooths southern at national championship games. And all that out you know. I would contend that he was the right hire for the pac twelve back then two thousand nine to ten and was able to execute on a lot of the high priorities but also argue that he is not the right commissioner for the pack twelve right now and the last couple of years have seen a series of of missteps that have Hurt the conference You know hurt. The brand hurt the football product specifically And just kind of got pulled everything into this. You know Sinkhole how and exactly who will help the pac twelve. Talk some of the candidates that i mean. I've seen at least twenty five names mentioned who is realistic to get this job too. Great question I think the the the the problem is it's hard to know exactly what the patch will presents are going to do because they've got these gigantic media rights negotiations coming up here in a couple of years and so there is some thought that they hire someone from the sports media. industry You know a tv executive basically to kinda head the head the process at the negotiating table But then there's a school of thought that you know they had brought larry scott in from from You know the pro sports world. He didn't have any experience in college. Athletics and and there were problems because of that so they should take a more traditional approach and higher you know a sitting athletic director particularly maybe one that's got You know the football powerhouse so until you know kind of which direction the president's wanna go. It's hard to really pinpoint candidates. But certainly if they'd go a traditional route you can you can figure on some of the top name being being contacted. I would think. I wanna go through every name because i think sometimes i. Maybe i'm dubious of reporters pushing people. But i i've been in that shoe. We've been in those shoes before as you have. But let's talk about a realistic group of people that could figure into this job. Well realistic group You know I was just from from your territory. You know i would think greg byrne If they decided that they wanted to go more traditional route. I would think that there would be some conversations. And they're gonna hire search for him to to do the legwork. I would certainly think that there'd be some outreach. To greg burned you know he He has ties to four different pac twelve schools. He worked at oregon and oregon state We was young He went to arizona state. He was the ada at arizona. Obviously the guy knows college football Which is a big issue for the pac. Twelve right football products gotta get improved. So you know i could see a scenario in which they they at least had a conversation with burnt Maybe even the same thing with g smith you know he. He was the athletic director at arizona state before he moved to columbus I wonder if bob dole's be you know was at stanford before he became the big twelve. Commissioner you know. I i think the actual probably would be smart at least make a phone call and see both i was tired of dealing with texas And ready to maybe move back to the west coast So that those are few names. But i do think that if they go the traditional route. They're gonna wanna have somebody who has been on a pack twelve campus. They don't want to bring in somebody who doesn't understand you know the the culture out here I think that that's going to be important for them. Is is somebody who at least has some ties to the west.

The Population Control Movement

"The negro project was very popular with black community leaders at the time and it would be unfair to frame it as an act of genocide. Sanger wrote repeatedly of the importance of bringing in black doctor stating at one point. I do not believe that this project should be directed a run by white medical men which is good. If you're going to do a healthcare project like focused on the black community like that. That shows like she. She was like she was capable of understanding what was necessary in order to actually reach people in nineteen thirty nine now so that i guess yeah. Yeah in one thousand nine hundred nine. She argued in a letter. That black ministers needed to be heavily involved in the project in order to gain the trust of their communities. We do not want to go out that we want to exterminate the negro population in the minister is the man who could straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members again sue problematic language there but also there's no evidence she was actually going for genocide because she was again doing the same thing with white people. She was a birth control across the board advocate right. She wanted everyone to have more access to contraceptives. There are people on the right. Like denise souza who will spread wildly untrue claims about sanger like that. She called black people human weeds in a minister civilization. And there is no evidence of this sanger's own legacy contains enough problematic facts without making up lies. She was a eugenicist and she wrote in nineteen twenty-three that birth control does not mean contraception indiscriminately practiced. It means the release in cultivation of the better elements in our society and the gradual suppression elimination and eventual extinction of defective stocks. Those human weeds who threaten the blooming of the finest flowers of american civilization. So she did call people human weeds. But she wasn't referring to black people. She was referring more to mentally challenged people more to people with like who are prone to diseases. And that's bad that's really bad. But she was not like a four exterminating everything but white people. She was four exterminating people. She considered unhealthy or at least exterminating them from the gene pool. Which is again bad. But let's be accurate about the kind of bad it is. You know we don't need to make it anymore. Yeah criminal. I don't say because it's not flowery. It's already bad. Didn't wanna make better by wiping out black people. She wanted to make black people and white people better by wiping out folks who had what she considered to be like bad qualities through selective breeding and. That's really terrible for herself. What does back. Yeah these are yes. Yes thanks at up. Yeah that is bad but like it's not the kind of bad luck again because they tried to. I like the progressives always been trying to wipe out black like. That's not what she was doing. We don't need to add information. She was just a she was a. Here's plenty that's bad about her. Yeah let's let's be intellectually honest when we can dennis someone. She also stated during another speech. I believe now immediately. There should be national sterilization for certain this genetic types of our population who are being encouraged to breed and would die out where the government not feeding them. You know that's bad but again it's the kind of like part of why they like to try to frame her. Badness is something different is because if you're accurate about it you can find a fuck load of republicans who say the. The poor should starve right. Like the people who can't work on their own by jordan peterson. Talking about like how terrifying it is that. Some people aren't intelligent enough to be in the military and like say like because. What do we do with those people like. That's a really. Like what margaret sanger was. Saying back then is still common today. Apple dress it up a little bit more. I mean kind of relate to the copay things like that's fine. They're already they're already probably die. So it's the run productive. Yeah they're in productive there on the government dole. Exactly yeah she just. She was bad she just was not the kind of bad people. Like desouza liked painter. As and in fact a lot of progressive black leaders at the time like margaret sanger. And what she was trying to do in one thousand nine hundred eighty nine letter to dr. cj gamble of proctor and gamble fame. She urged him to get over his resistance to hiring a fulltime negro physician. Ask quote the colored. Negroes can get closer to their own members and more or less lay their cards on the table which means they're ignorant superstitions in doubt again. She's also she's number one saying that black people are ignorant and superstitious which is bad but also saying that like no you get educated black people to talk to them about birth control so again. She's a problematic person but not painters

Georges Bizet, Christmas Carols in Classical Music

"Hello welcome to classics for kids. I'm naomi lewin. This week in celebration of the christmas season some classical compositions that involve christmas carols in the middle of the nineteenth century. An englishman named william chatterton dix came up with christmasy words. What child is this for the old folk song green sleeves years later when raytheon williams wrote his fantasia on green sleeves. He probably had a pretty good idea that the peace would get played a lot at christmas. Time the fantasia. Green sleeves was originally part of an opera but some pieces of christmas. Carol classical music written to be used in church johann sebastian bach was an excellent organised. Who spent years writing church music. Bach based a whole set of variations on the old german. Carol come mojo known in english as from heaven above earth. I come that same. Carol turns up in auto nikolas christmas overture which even has acquired to sing it. There's another german christmas. Carol in which. Mary sings joseph dearest joseph mine asking joseph for help rocking the baby. Jesus to sleep. Yohannes brahms used that in song. He wrote to honor another baby the son of his good friend joseph or josef in german. Walk him brahms. Like the inside. Joke of the to joseph's and he liked the wonderful tune which he gave to the biala A couple of centuries earlier than brahms was composing in germany mach. One chaperone ta was composing in france. Chaperone ta came up with a whole set of what he called. Carols for instruments. The title of this one is where are those cheerful shepherds headed. One of the top ten favorite christmas carols actually has music by classical composer even though that's not what he wrote it for felix mendelssohn composed a song to celebrate yohannes gutenberg. The man who invented the movable type printing press mendelssohn didn't like the words to that song and told his publisher. He thought the music could be recycled for something else. Maybe a wedding piece but nothing really religious. After mendelssohn died someone in england discovered that the music went perfectly with a poem by charles wesley. The brother of john. Wesley who founded methodism Pieces that use christmas carols were meant to be played at christmas time. Utter reno raspy composed a musical description of three paintings by italian renaissance artist. Sandro botticelli one of those paintings is the adoration of the maj. I in which maj i. The three kings are part of a huge crowd admiring the baby. Jesus resp- iggy sets the scene by quoting an old church chant anyb- any emmanuel which you know as the christmas. Carol o come o come emmanuel. The three kings feature in another piece that uses a christmas carol. The farren dole from the arlesienne sweet by george. Bc opens with an old french. "With the heading after the fall. By midday of August Twenty Ninth Nineteen ninety-five Dick Morris had headed back home to Connecticut Bill Clinton staff move quickly and manage the Morris issue with a deft hand insulating the president from potential fallout they worked hard to ensure Morrison scandal didn't lead to a rehash of the Jennifer flowers scandal, the Paula Jones scandal, or even Whitewater no comment or that's a personal matter for Dick Morris were the standard responses and while the Clinton White House was managing the fallout of the Dick Morris scandal behind the scenes Bill Clinton took center stage at the United Center in Chicago to accept the Democratic presidential nomination I love and revere the rich and proud history of America. And I am determined to take our best traditions into the future But with all respect. We do not need to build a bridge to the past we need to build a bridge to the future. Bill Clinton's speech was a direct response to the acceptance speech. Bob Dole had given at the Republican National Convention in San Diego two weeks prior after former football player and Bush secretary of Housing Jack Kemp had accepted the vice presidential nomination Dole had closed out the convention in his speech. He had also talked about building a bridge his bridge didn't lead to the future. Let me be the bridge in America that only the unknowing call. Myth. Let me be the bridge to a time of tranquility, faith and confidence in action. And those who say was never so That America has not been better I say you're wrong. And I know because I was there and I have seen it and I remember. The contrast in the two speeches highlighted one of the main issues the Dole campaign had faced from the onset. If Dole were to win the election, he would be seventy three years old at inauguration images of bill. Clinton jogging through Washington DC and spending time with his teenage daughter Chelsea were commonplace at fifty. He was still viewed in political circles as a young man Dole on the other hand was seen by many as A. Remnant from another era wounds he suffered in World War Two had rendered Dole's right arm essentially unusable to avoid embarrassment. Dole. The politicians started clasping a pen in his right hand back in the early sixties he'd found that when people saw the pen, they were less likely to try and shake his disabled right hand and while images of Dole and his pen reminded voters he was a war here. They also reminded them of his age. Age wasn't Dole's only issue who was also Ross Perot, the Texas businessman who some claimed up ended the nineteen ninety-two election as an independent candidate in nineteen ninety, six Perot had entered the race as a member of the reform, party but unlike in ninety two rows ninety, six campaign had remained on the periphery. Perot's polling numbers rarely reach double digits throughout the campaign perhaps even more devastating to his ninety six run was the fact that he hadn't met the criteria laid out by the commission on presidential debates that would deem him a candidate with a realistic chance of winning and earn. Him a spot on the debate stage despite that, Perot still had a vocal group of followers and Bob Dole wanted them in his camp. The Dick Morris Scandal hadn't done anything to slow Bill Clinton's momentum and with only two weeks left before the election. Bob. Dole found himself trailing far behind in the polls. Don't believe if he could get Ross Perot to drop out of the race and endorse him it could provide a much-needed boost to his faltering campaign. So October Twenty Fourth Nineteen ninety-five Dole dispatch campaign manager, Scott Reed to try to convince Perot to drop out for row a last ditch effort to climb back into the race and prove that he was offered the job seventy, two year old Bob Dole finished his nineteen ninety six campaign with a ninety, six hour marathon for four straight days Dole traveled across the country and campaign twenty, four seven he talked to crowds at sunrise and else speaking engagements. Well, after midnight he found moments asleep on buses and short plane flights but that was it, and by the end his voice was shot, he was exhausted. The marathon was a valiant physical effort on the part of Bob Dole but had little effect. On November Fifth Nineteen ninety-six President Bill Clinton won re-election beating Bob. Dole three seventy nine to one fifty nine in the Electoral College Clinton took forty nine point two percent of the popular vote to Dole's forty-one. Ross Perot secured about nine percent of the popular vote which was half of what he earned in ninety two. Perot wasn't the only minor candidate on the ballot in ninety six Green Party nominee Ralph Nader one just over six hundred, eighty, five, thousand votes while this point seven, one percent of the popular vote barely registered Nader would return in two thousand and have a much more meaningful impact. But despite Clinton's victory, the Democrats failed to take back the house or the Senate perhaps singling that Bill Clinton was more popular than his party. Clinton's victory. Made Him the first Democrat to achieve a second term since Franklin? Delano. Roosevelt you would enter his second term on a high note but the celebration would be cut short. The Whitewater investigation had continued to expand well beyond its initial intention, and soon, it would lead Ken Starr's team to a story about a young White House intern named Monica Lewinsky. A member of Star Staff Brett Cavanaugh would put together a list of explicit questions. He believed the president should be forced to answer about Lewinsky the Comeback Kid would finally get inspired in a scandal that had sticking our. "Okay so two parts. There's the drug testing of welfare recipients and a welfare cod controls. How people who get payments can spend their money and there's a lot of discussion about this because it doesn't look like the government to have enough support to make the drug testing happen at least for for now but the whole debate has dredged up that old stigma of welfare recipients the whole Dole bludger thing kind of implies the moral judgment about the unemployed It's just I really just comes up every single time like we have a social services bill. That's put forward by conservative parties. Really it's just it's it's an old argument. I went back to look at where we first started saying you know. Dole bludger and bludger and that sort of thing and apparently in the eighteen hundreds according to the Asu you who have done this work for me. We used to refer to pimps as bludgeon is because they would walk around with the bludgeon and so they then that ah became blood sugar and then by the early nineteen hundreds we just started calling people it as an abusive term just in general just a bludger and in nineteen mighty yeah and then in the nineteen seventies somebody at a Dole to that and it became Dole bludger and we've kind of been doing not sort of ever since I was. I was told of a case that happened in the nineties of the Paxton family who briefly became Australia's. Most famous missed dose family because they refused apparently to go set up a job. I don't know some current affairs team decided that they should go work at a Cernan void family steamatic thousands of calls to US enter talkback radio all wanting the same thing how can three young people who say they're desperate for work not back good jobs in a tropical paradise still expect to collect the dull and we kind of wrote it on from there but the thing is I think enough people now have been touched by recessions have been touched by a slowing economy may have been touched by just like a really uneven work market where they sometimes find themselves needing the social safety net net beyond because of circumstances beyond their control and there's enough people now who discovered actually Nori. This is kind of a shit argument. Maybe we should look at why we're saying this and that's really positive.

"Okay so at last count more than seven hundred twenty thousand Australians were receiving the new stop payment also known as as the Dole. There are already a bunch of hoops. You have to jump through to qualify for that payment and style on it yeah. There's things like proving looking for work that you're looking hard enough and if you don't find work in a certain amount of time showing up job training right and those hoops that you have to clear have been multiplying for the last forty also years and that could could be about to happen again if the government can convince enough senators devoid for its plan so we called Ameera makers to explain. She's a political reporter for the Guardian Australia. We we do have a government that wants to drug test welfare recipients but only it seems those who are on job seek payments so what forms of of welfare will be subject to this new style and why those two forms of welfare that you WanNa make subject to it because these are the areas where we're trying to get people off if will fit into Jones so it's not everyone on Welfare just those who are looking for a job and they say that this is to try and tackle the nation's is drug problem. They want to identify people who have addiction issues and be able to point them in the direction with resources to get help. I mean we're trying to help. People get off drugs and get into work and trawl innovative new ways of doing that. I think it's worth a try now. Critics sort of saying well you sort of limiting that to a select group of people who happen to be on you. Stott if this was really about help you wouldn't be further stigmatizing people on on on newstalk or or looking for work. You would actually be putting money into drug rehabilitation centers. The government says well you know we'll get to that and so this is the argument that we're currently in and as well as the drug test and we've also got these cashless welfare card. The government wants to expand that program. Can you give us a rough. aww How that how that works so basically instead of guessing your welfare payment into your bank account the government quarantines eighty percent of this onto a special card which can only be used at retailers who have signed up to be part of the program so that limits weight. You can spend spend your money now. The government says that they are doing this in communities where they have had problems with drug and alcohol with had problems with gambling that sort of thing. I think it should be seen for what it is and that's genuine tip to do things that help people in these situations to help them better manage the resources that they have and to ensure that this food on the table label for the people who depend on these pilots that are going into these families and that they can get themselves into position to deal with issues in their own lives and they can go and find themselves unemployment and billion even greater control of their own lives so what they're saying is that it stops people from being able to spend money on those vices. which is you know how the government commit labels it and instead spend it on a on food and accommodation and and the necessities of life but again there is a flip side to this in? I'm not really really controls. The spending of people and critics say that again further stigmatizes people on welfare but it also takes away like their own their own choices and how they live.
