"We should do is just let steve tells about q code beginning and then we'll drag him back to premium podcasting topic. So why don't you give us the four one one on what you're doing over your code. What will share. Thanks guys So yeah i code I'm chief strategy. Officer code really specializes in immersive scripted. Fiction podcast so these are fully sound design scripted shows that often have you know amazing stories ayla celebrity talent and are produced in a really high technical level We mix master at dolby. Atmos and do some really cool things in the audio for listeners. Who haven't experienced fiction before these are shows that kind of hearkens back to the old radio days You know war. The world's is an apt analogy to what people are familiar with. But rather than using the sort of old techniques of production coconuts and wash words and those kinds of things. These are producer really high level and an amazing listening experience. Something that really is a great addition to everyone's like diverse podcast listening experience actions in trying to do something a little bit different. You know prior to joining code. I spent a long time at apple. where i did editorial partner relations and marketing on apple podcasts. Before that i actually still worked in podcasts but in apple's education group where i worked on. It jew which was a you know an educational podcasting platform with college courses and lectures and those kinds of things as well. That's all been folded into the apple. Podcasts platform now that the whole educational side. I mean how important i- i'm just curious. How important is the educational side to to apple. As far as working with the universities. I know back then. They're working pretty closely with like stanford and a lot of the big big colleges. Is that still going on you. Know yeah i mean look. I wanted to obviously be really careful and all of our conversation to make it clear like i'm not. I'm not speaking on apple behalf. And so i ask How important is it. It's it's hard for me. Sort of provide that kind of answer. But you know what. I would just say as you know what was exciting about. It you in the project that they had there it was. It was a project that really saw the opportunity and mobile learning the very early days. So this this project started back in two thousand and six. I wanna say it was not too long after podcasting itself really started and it was the result of you know apple and duke university thinking about how the ipod the original ipod could be used in mobile learning.

Oscars 2021: 'Nomadland' wins best picture on night of historic firsts

"Have been a number of significant winners at the Oscars Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Yes, it's been an Oscars, unlike any other with covert restrictions. In effect, the 93rd Academy Awards has bean celebrating some of the best films. The past year on the red carpet for us, Peter Bows and Tom Brook. Peter, could I start with you? We've We've just found out what the best picture is. Yes, And the best picture is no model on this is the phone that is long being the favorite to win Best picture at the Academy Awards, Directed by Closure Oh, the Chinese filmmaker, she becomes the first woman of color to win best director at the Oscars, and we've just in the last few minutes heard that Frances McDormand has won for best actress for her starring role. In this film, so it really is quite a feat for this phone that tells the story of a group of nomads. It's partially scripted but partially real life because there are some non actors alongside Actors in this film that is set around or shortly after the financial crash of 2000 and eight these people who have lost everything because of what happened in the financial world, going on a journey and the western United States to try to earn some money through some odd jobs. I'm with here in Los Angeles, Tom Brook from the BBC's talking movies. Show and Tom, This is movie has so much better than people thought it has. I mean, it's got through. You know, Matt Land has three trophy is interesting in Frances McDormand, just one for best actress. This is her third Oscar. That I think puts her on a par with Meryl Street, but she doesn't have as many as you. Neither haven't many is. Katharine Hepburn did really good performance from Frances McDormand. I mean, she's most definitely One of American cinema's most reliable and charismatic, leading ladies on this film has done well. It's really the night does belong to note belong to Nomad land so far, and a very diverse night. If we look at these supporting actor and actress categories, both won by actors of color. That's very true. Daniel Cholula, who is British and black, one for best supporting actor and best supporting actress, with one by year Young Eun, who appears playing a grandmother in the film minority, So a very diverse night. Interestingly it's been a good night for women, I think particularly because We had Chloe Zhao winning for best director but also in original screenplay. Emerald Fennel, the British filmmaker. She won in that category That's normally thought of as a male preserve. So definitely progress on just briefly all of this, of course, taking place with the backdrop of covert 19. With the Oscars ceremony taking place at two venues that train station in downtown Los Angeles on the Dolby Theater just very quickly breaking news. Anthony Hopkins has won the award for best actor for his role in the phone. The father Thank you. Thank you. No one expected that you got them both the best picture and the best actor. We really appreciate it. Tom Brooke and Peter bows on the red carpet in Los

Audio Systems for Echo Devices

"Today i want to go into a little bit about the different ways that you could potentially set up your echo devices to create A little bit more advanced auto systems beyond just a single echo device. And i think there are three main ways. You can do this. You can have multi room music a stereo pair speaker set of echo devices or a complete home theater system using your echo devices. So let me explain a little bit about each one so that you have a better understanding and then if you want to go ahead and set one of these than you have a better sense of what's involved so multi music this allows you to play your music in multiple rooms across multiple echo devices so you can have the devices in different rooms and they can be added to multiple groups and this can include speaker sets and home theater systems which will get to in just a moment and you can also control your audio settings on each device if you want so think of it as a way of creating a system where you can play your music in multiple rooms at the same time make sense. That's what is called multi music the next system if you will is a speaker set or a stereo pair and this is where you can actually pair to compatible echo devices for left and right sound during music playback you can then have the option of adding an echo sub for deeper base but these devices have to be in the same room and the author you settings like volume are shared by all the devices in that set unlike the multi room music where you can choose the volume for example of each one of those devices okay and the last one is a home theater system and this is where you can pair one or two echo devices with a fire tv for your home theater and that can include an echo sub as well it's support some of the more Advanced audio features like dolby atmos but when it comes to choosing volume and other settings those are shared by all the devices in the system. Your fire tv remote can control the home theater volume But not the tv volume by default. Just so that you know that. But that is adjustable in the fire. Tv setting so devices in a home theater group needs to be in the same room And that's a little bit about

Tottenham Hotspur's Shock Exit Leaves Jose Mourinho in the Firing Line

"We all stein with shock. Exit of Tuneup from the first leg. I watched it that comfortable. Well-managed rested rotated comfortable victory. I absolutely didn't expect anything other today than a than a than a standard victory or whatever ought to get to find that way through the game the way. The game unfolded watches from really toast. You know the when there's two games at the same time yanna both games. But my eyes were focused on this particular match. And we'll get into your nose Interview afterwards we saw what he said afterwards. But just the shock rob of this result and what it means. I mean just real quick look to the lineup robina. Okay you know. It's kind of a safe team. Changes nothing about the ordering belden star ikouebe. Lamelo insult goes back in the side delegate. A stars a number ten and you look at it the first star from this like okay kind of boring but may be understandable and both sides were didn't really impress of course in all the fun happened in the second rob Zagreb looked like they wanted to get back into the game. The football was unbelievable. The goals that they scored incredible the hat trick and it was just shocking to see the spurs side. Just go from trying to go from boring defensive to money's the game two then scurrying panicking and avenue not enough to get the result. An awful night for spurs on mean think of at the three europa league games. Obviously it was supposed resolve smell and there's money ninety three young. I was kinda thinking monday night. Might be tricky one. See them out of a mole probably leash. Civil i'm thinking tottenham tuna little against a very large so abrupt team by the laid role is manager is just going to prison for for ruled so any guy in charge interesting at a couple of reports after game and said it was a spanish players fluid today. They didn't know. And i mean. I kinda wanna go to the big picture. Straight seasons unraveling suspense based off the puck event. Dish disappointing knows london dolby. You've got a huge per game. That is an important competition one to get some silverware to to guarantee champions league football with a with the money that knows how we will with his squad that should be able to go down to the very last four is not too if they do things right. will peace. I kind of feel like we've gone back to can say two years ago when we decide with poetry you know isn't the module is it plays. I mean tonight. Uh are we there. Like millennials take a lotta heat Happy as we know. Spanish funds will put up with him. As long as you winning the soviet this is one piece of wire gone. Probably know maybe that the best. Buying a TV? Avoid these purchases

"If you had to focus on one or two basic tips on what not to buy when it comes to be. What would you pick. So i and i might get some pushback for this is i. Don't think it's the right time to buy. Eight k ak does look great especially if you're going to invest eighty plus inch television if you've got the budget but i still think it's kind of early so not only is it more expensive and not only is there. Not a lotta eight. K content out there to justify the investment even though it can upscale hd or four k to near eighty k quality. I don't think you need to do this yet. You're you'll hear from the sales person at the big box store while you're future proofing your investment the issue is this if you bought a four k tv when it first came out you missed out on some other technologies that were arguably more important than resolution like hdr ten plus or dolby vision. You know high dynamic range stuff that increases the brightness and contrast in color of those television so it's not just about resolution and if you buy an eight k now in a few years from now when the prices drop for ak you may be missing out. So i'm going to say. Take a pass on on eight k. Tv's right now. Even though there are a few available and then with four k. That's kind of a no brainer that there's a lot of four k. content outright now however if you're going to be buying a smallish. Tv like forty inches forty two inches. There's probably no need to buy four k. Because your eyes won't be able to really tell the difference between a ten eighty p picture and a four k picture on a small tv because a pixel density right. Unless the only caveat is that if you're sitting close to the tv then you'll notice a difference but if you're buying tv maybe for a spare room or you know again. It's like a dorm room or something where it's not a huge investment. You're not a major you know Home theater enthusiasts. If you're getting a forty audience tv. I don't think you need to go. Four k you could probably save a couple of bucks stick with hd. Because unless you're super close you're not gonna be able to tell the difference but you will you mentioned for k. I if you're shopping and you see tv like an is a four k. There's no reason not to get it right. Because i know a lot of places aren't even stock and regular hd anymore. Yeah for sure. If it's fifty fifty five inches in and above four k is absolutely time to buy a four k tv. You're right it may be harder to find like a ten eighty p. Hdtv color televisions. And sometimes i've noticed And this is both online and retail. You may be paying a lot more for a four k small. tv for whatever reason something to do. Maybe with the way it's manufactured but you're is really won't be able to tell the difference unless you're super close one trap that i fallen into and i don't want our listeners to fall into its when it comes to buying. Hdmi cables because you see some of the cables and they promise certain things but they also costs a little bit more. What should our listeners know about what to buy when it comes to. Hdmi cables in all the years. That i've been comparing hd my cables and it's been a number of them. I have not seen or heard the difference between a cable from my local dollar store and pricier cables. I'll be honest with you. Like just spend the bucker two and see if that does the trick. It's usually limited to four or five feet so if you need a longer cable or one with thicker shielding to reduce electron interference from say then fine. You will pay more but you really could get away with an entry level. Hdmi cable it should be able to handle four k three d. If you're still doing that and be long enough for what you need at the very least if it doesn't do the trick you're only out a dollar to so i'd say go with your local dollar store for an hd and my cable you'd be surprised that know how comparable that quality is to the more expensive one so that the brand names will cost more than the no names. But i have yet to. You know and i've also spoken. Ah real experts here audio files included. And they they really can't tell the difference either

"The theater where the oscars are held every year the dolby theater right as a as a tribute to him. His dolby labs secured the name of that for the next twenty years. That was formerly the kodak theatre. I've actually visited that theater. And because i. I've stayed in hollywood a couple of times night state near that theater. It's a really. It's a really interesting place. I mean i. It's a cool design. I like it a lot And then you know. Let's talk about some of his hobbies. Some of his interests He was he sat as the director of the san francisco opera for a while. He was also on the governor of the the symphony the san francisco symphony as well. Obviously that love of music doesn't go away share share and when you're as big a person is beer as as influential then but i'm not sure. If he was that tall he he also was an amateur pilot. Yep he loved sailing and boating. He had a yacht he also liked to dry for pleasure. I loved reading about some of his driving adventures like he. He drove a vintage around for a while. Just to explore the san francisco area and california general he also for awhile enjoyed driving essentially. What was the same thing is a tour bus like a tour bus. That rock musicians would use. He like driving. One of those around secure is a very interesting character and Also he and his wife. Both were were philanthropist. Obviously she's still very much involved in philanthropy she. She inherited his His his multitudinous fortune he was worth around two point. Four billion dollars at the time of his death and One of the projects they donated money to was They donate like thirty five million dollars to the university of california san francisco for stem cell research projects and instead of Flowers when when they announced the passing of ray dolby. The family said well in lieu of flowers why not make a donation to and they listed a couple of different medical facilities that specifically do alzheimer's research and a little bit into the key mia's while he actually passed away from right right so they were very much active in and she still is in a scientific endeavors. Not you know it's all sorts of philanthropic endeavors not just the arts but also the sciences. So that's into really. I think to be fair to be. He would not distinguish between the two. He felt art and science. Really were interwoven. Share while you know it's he. He was so influential in bringing in bringing the two together. You know it's you can't have you can't have art without the applications that allow more people to experience and this has been a fun time to look back on on his life and his contributions we've got more about the dolby sound system coming up but versus. Take another.

"The thing that to make a to fund the other things he was gonna do specifically x-ray ray experimentation But as it turns out doby hit on something that a lot of people found really fascinating and valuable and it took over his life. Well even even at the time very high quality media like a like an lp like a record were recorded from a master tape a master magnetic tape so this impacted a huge segment of a few different industries. Oh sure if your master tape has a on at the net. His gets transmitted to every other copy. That you make right. So if you're able to create a system where you remove that hiss so that you have the highest quality master tape then whenever you are making a new copy then you are there across your copying the hits as well. Yeah so if you if you can get rid of the this that's awesome and that's why it ended up being such a big deal And so early on. It was really focusing mostly on on studio level quality right. We're talking professional recording studios. Not something that you would find in your average the playback device that a consumer would have a right right there. Their first customer was decca records. Yeah yeah ended up being a pretty important customer so decca records they come up and they. They say they want us. Adobe system on a series of recordings made by vladimir naasi of mozart piano concertos which you know already it's speaking to dobie heart and so don't be says that You know he. He realized that the noise reduction which he thought was going to be. That little side project was going to become The main thing he worked on for at least the foreseeable future so nineteen sixty six dolby met. Mary's dagmar so they end up eventually having two children. Tom and david. Tom is a novelist and journalist and editor and david sits on the board of directors for dolby labs. So they're both very successful in one thousand nine hundred sixty. Eight dolby is convinced by a man named henry. Kloss who at that. Time was president of the k. L. h. research and development corporation to create a consumer version of a signal to noise stretcher technology. All right because up until this pointed all been these these really high end pretty expensive versions for for that. A professional studio for for doing shomar. Yeah like doing those master tapes rate is it was meant as a as an industry thing so it was originally dolby was thinking that his stuff that he was working on it would trickle down to consumers but in a way that the consumer would never notice are in a way that the consumer would never have any direct participation in. Yeah exactly 'cause 'cause you know the consumer would be able to enjoy the benefits by playing something and not hearing. That sounds better than that other thing. But they wouldn't be able to create their own stuff right well close ends up saying to dolby that. Hey you should really make a consumer version of this dolby. Says there's not really a market for it. I can't see consumers jumping at this. So then what close does something. Kinda sneaky convince dolby otherwise he goes back and he tells them of his engineers guys. Let's kind of reverse engineer. This take dolby type. A what would eventually be called the type aid obese and reverse engineered so that we can make a consumer level of our own. They do that. He then takes that to dolby. Says look at what i did. I took your stuff. And i made a cheaper version for consumers. Someone else is going to do that. And they're gonna beat you to the market so you should do it. I and don't be says How about that. you're right. i should do that. And so dobie. The goes to create a consumer version of his signal to noise. Stretchers called tight. Beat so taipei is for the professional studios. It's more sophisticated..

And i love all things tech and today. We're going to listen to another tech stuff classic. This episode originally published february third. Two thousand fourteen. It is titled tech stuff. Listens to dolby. The up we're gonna learn about the dolby sound system and how that works so let's listen to this classic episode if you've ever owned a stereo in the history of ever you've probably seen the dolby logo which is now thankfully yea certainly in the history of the past thirty years. Yeah which. I think for most of our listeners that that qualifies I know that we have some listeners. Who may have owned stereos. That are older than thirty years. We appreciate you as well of course so. Who was this guy. Why did he do while. He was an electrical engineer. Famous for his work in developing audio technology which was used in everything from movies to to studio equipment to the stuff that you could buy like consumer electronics and he has absolutely no relation to the musician. Thomas dolby known for us. She blinded me with science right. Apparently thomas dolby took that stage name based on dolby. Yeah his his actual name is thomas robertson but the stage name is thomas dolby. Presumably taking the name because of dolby laboratories and dolby himself. Ray dolby Ray by the way had. Alice still has a son named tom. So also a little confusing confusion there But apparently at the end and you uncover this little tidbit that That thomas yes. Yes thomas dolby. The musician staged aimed person. Had an agreement laid out that he would not name any electronics equipment under the brand right right. He could not he knew there was some initial Tension between dolby. Labs and thomas dolby. But that eventually got kind of settled down in the agreement essentially was kind of a gentlemen's agreement. It was that thomas dolby could perform and record under the name. Thomas dolby as long as he didn't put out like the dolby stereo. Because that could be confused with the actual dolby. Labs brand right so. Let's talk about tom. Not thomas dolby. That's a totally different. Guess that we could do. Because thomas dolby has been very active in digital distribution. But ray dolby so he was born back in nineteen thirty three in portland oregon His father was a salesman. Yup ray dolby. As a kid got interested in electronics. There might be able to donate twenty hours of their time that they could help with something like this like. Let's get all those guys in the room with the people in the industry. I you know what a good as a good idea is a good idea no matter where it comes from. And ironically i've had the conversation with some people on the left who are really kind of concerned about their second amendment rights. They're all on board with everything else. It's going on but there are a little concerned and we gotta get those people in a room with the right people and we have to get people that have business sense in the room so that we can start making these things happen and you know what. "Because you don't go in this industry because you don't like to shoot guns you don't go on the because don't like to you know tissue bows or you don't like to hunt and all that like that's what we all love to do and the reason we do it is because we like it. And that's why we'll put in the seventy and eighty hour weeks because we're hanging around with a bunch of guys just like us and gals or just like us right but it's time to get down to business man like this is not the play times over now. There is a good old boy network. We gotta like we need a general. And i don't know who that is like. I really don't know who that is but we need a charismatic and effective leader right. We need the guy. I use this analogy with my clients a lot. The difference between a leader and a boss is the leader so right the leader is the guy that inspires you when you're in the trenches and there's machine gunfire going everywhere and you can barely stick your head up. And he says you know what we're gonna fix our band nuts. We're gonna charge over that hill into that mercilus gunfire we're gonna stab all those sons of guns and kill them all follow me right and not only does he say that when he gets up and goes everybody goes right. That's the leader of boss. Says go do that. You guys go do that right. Because i said so because on. Here's your simon. Go do that right. And i was never in the military but i've studied things about leadership and there's a lot of examples in the military and one of the things that you have to learn. Is you have to have not just a charismatic leader but you have to have an effective leader. You have someone that inspires you to do that. And i think of the top of my head who in the industry right now today. Would you say anybody can come from anywhere. Tactical you know defensive sport whatever who is the most charismatic leader in the in firearms industry today. Who's your pick. Donald trump junior. You think so. Yeah who could galvanize it he he could but he would okay but you gotta understand. The firearm industry isn't just conservatives. Right okay. I'm tired of galvanize only prom. Donald trump junior. Yeah i i would love him in that role he comes from a business background with family and everything. The only thing is. I think there's there's a slight bit of polarization there because people are going to play two issues in the and they're going to bring that so again you really need like i said when we went back to the nsf leading this instead of brown als or midway or somebody you need to find somebody who the politics from right and left are out of wisit. Who's that person it. Well dave likens it to an entity. The reason i bring up donny is because i think i think it needs the glue. You need someone. Who's going to galvanize it if he's calling you take in the meeting and now you need. That's what you need right now. You need someone who's going to say. Hey your backup. Because when while he's running the billion dollar industry and saving the world basically. Who's your back all over north. Think i'll but again you're going. You're picking a conservative. And that means out of the nation when we look at the the nation holistically. You're taking your upsetting fifty percent of the people. Okay if we took if we took a concert are of a liberal a well-known liberal. Yeah even if they were pro gun so many conservatives aren't going to support him because they're liberal because they have liberal pass in that so..

"These are not unintelligent people the people at the nsf or some of the best in the industry and they're not But i don i i just. I don't know how to answer that question. I don't know how to answer the question about the nra. How's the get to the giant cluster. Fuck that it has become with all this. Nobody who's minding the store because my issue is and i think dave knows where i'm going to go is the the infrastructure is already been built with success and we there's other models that exist success transactional models hosting models. Right we're not reinventing the wheel fair to say we're not reinventing the wheel so why not. Just look at one of those models and if i'm the nra are nsf especially the nsf. Because shows are dying okay. It's a carnival. That's what it is celebrate. Get get money. It's a carnival. The year carney at this point they don't have the the shot show. They're they're floundering. They're looking. They're giving away pouches at that point. Why wouldn't they say you know what we need to create a transactional entity that's a safe haven for all of our fulfils and we can make a rip on every transaction amazon does right so why not write. Create something like that. Why they're you know what there is a company out there that i that i got to plug and i've got no vested interest in them. I happen to know their marketing person but injured everest ever since trying to they're trying to battle amazon trying to be a place for people to to be able to sell them and i've talked to some of the dollar tailings like she's good. They're good. They're good over nice lady s another couple of guys there that are always another layer back right like you said with macmillan mcmillen was out there but the bank shot him down writing. Credit card processors parlor was out. We're going to get into some topics that are important. We got ace luchino back and we're going to get into the industry and what's going on what's missing and some of the pieces that are going to be affected by a lot of these things going on politically which is something. We didn't touch on the previous one. So i want to turn it over. What's going well. We know biden one. Okay know well we know biden is president. I didn't know that we know he won. A good point Stand correct and everybody can argue about that and you can argue back and forth. You say what you want at the end of the day. What i tell everybody is look. We all know who sides are on. The biden was not my candidate in case you couldn't figure while he's my president not my according to the electoral college. He's my president but he wasn't my candidate and i got a lot of real serious issues. I think the most The most concerning of which was the complicity of the media In covering up and in doing the things that that they did You know. I mean if man could you see if donald trump junior was was caught with underage girls or was like you never know. Catch you know if he was smoking math. And could you imagine we would hear nothing for twenty four seven From the media except what a risk that was how horrible. Ob what people say. They don't care what's on the laptop. I'm curious let's come thing. She had an people porn. And who apparently guys midgets. He's quite a deviant quite a bad deal. Ira fight you know. And then and i love other media amazing you know all the media and all the left has to say as well. It's fake news. Well it's not you know it's because it comes from fox. It's not really true. Oh newsmax we all know. And then i recently. I spent on social media people putting these these news rating sites where they talk about who you know which side of the line they fall to and if they're biased writer biased left and my first question is who the hell who the hell was doing this rating have them look like cnn rated..

Roger j we were just talking about a cas product that makes you ice cream and ninety seconds whenever you wanted and why roger never cries wider conversation join our expanded show. Good day internet at patriotair dot com slash dpd s. Let's start with a few things you should know. Amazon has discontinued its prime pantry. Grocery and household item service products previously available in pantry will now be available like any other products on amazon. So it's not going away to gather but the service itself prime pantry launched in twenty fourteen offering reduced shipping on up to forty five pounds of household goods for a monthly fee. Amazon node vied prime pant pantry subscribers about the closure in december and then issued refunds the. Uk's competition and markets authority launched an investigation into google's privacy sandbox. That would block third party. Cookies in chrome regulator received complaints from the marketers for an open web coalition saying the plan would abuse google's dominant position in online advertising. So the investigations going to evaluate. If the privacy sandbox changes would concentrate advertising spending market share with google samsung launched the galaxy chromebook to a cheaper version of the galaxy chromebook at launched last year so instead of four k it has a ten eighty p lcd screen with less storage fewer cameras less ram. It's also heavier and thicker overall but it also now starts at five hundred forty nine dollars instead of one thousand dollars. That has a thirteen point. Three inch nineteen twenty by ten eight hundred sixteen nine. Lcd touchscreen with the dual core intel seller on five twenty five you upgradable to an intel core. I three ten ten eleven ten one. one zero. You eight gigs. Ram and one hundred twenty five gigs of storage for six hundred ninety nine dollars a shortage of semiconductors affecting automakers. Volkswagen said last month that they needed to adjust first-quarter manufacturing plans around the globe because of the shortage. Now honda says it will cut domestic output by about four thousand cars this month at one of its factories in japan nissan is adjusting production numbers for its note hatchback model and ford has moved up previously planned downtime at a kentucky plant for its sport utility vehicle factory to the jin chips all right. Well we're talking about cars. Let's talk about the the apple car. Yeah a lot of rumors as of late will really over the last few years. But but but the rumors had resurfaced recently and hyundais. Now talking to apple about kerr's so says the company hyundai representative told cnbc quotes. We understand that apple isn't discussion with a variety of global automakers including hyundai motor as the discussion is at its early stage. Nothing has been decided. Korean economic daily said that apple suggested the arrangements and hundred was reviewing the terms that involved e production and also battery development hyundai has had his own battery platform called e. g. m. p. going into production later this year. So might be saying what you're doing. Reuters sources say that apple would like to produce a passenger vehicle by twenty twenty four however might not be that date bloomberg's mark gurman reports in thomas e. v. from apple is five to seven years away and michio recently said he wouldn't be surprised if it takes until twenty twenty eight. Yes what's probably going on. Here is apple and i think this significant part has decided to start investigating how they would build. Whatever it is. They're going to build whether it's a whole car or an integrated platform and they're going to different manufacturers and parts suppliers and folks like magna including hyundai. And saying what are you got. How can you help us with this. And is a great company for this because they make parts they make systems. They make full cars. There's all kinds of services in the conday company that could play a part with apple so it may not be. That apple knows what they want from hyundai. It may just be that they're going and saying hey let's talk. You do a lot of the kinds of things that we think we're going to need. I'm pretty excited about this. I just got my first hyundai ever this year and my perception of this story was weight but hyundai currently uses android auto and a lot of their their cars. So i would love to see. How apple would integrate Hyundai's current technologies into something that is very useful for that apple ecosystem not just looking at e itself but also the The the systems inside of it the controls in how they would manage that four a driver and a passenger in the car. Yeah i mean. I think that's one of the big questions that i have is okay. Let's say let's say it's hyundai that that applet ended up working with with clearly not set in stone at least from what we know at this point. But let's say it's the companies for kicks. Let's imagine that that's what it is. Yeah it is. It is an apple car that hyundai produces a lot of parts for the way that works with lots of other companies to produce other hardware for apple. I mean that that's the loftiest kind of goal that we're looking at and maybe that would take till twenty twenty eight at you know if if apple was lucky. I think it probably has more to do with like you said shannon not that you know android auto wouldn't still be prevalent in a lot of passenger vehicles but maybe at some sort of it's a special relationship. It's it's a special kind of os inside a car that is supposed to you. Know i don't know move some merch because What apple is providing on the software side is is. Is that much more interesting. I really don't know if you look at that. Bloomberg article mark gurman sources are saying that Tesla people that apple has hired are working on things like interior exterior. Drive train stereo. Desist the kinds of things. You need when you're building a car not carting a software platform so then the question becomes is it the apple car period. Maybe hendaye makes it. Maybe somebody else makes it. And you know they'll figure out how to distribute it or is it the apple car by sunday and you go to hyundai dealership to buy it the way you went to an. At and t. store to an apple iphone but it's really apples car in cooperation with sunday. Are there multiple partners. I mean that's all the kind of stuff we're waiting to see but it really does feel like we have gotten to the point where this is no longer just yeah. They're working on project titan. They don't know what they're gonna do to. They have an idea. It's more than just software and they're working out the details. Maybe they don't even know that yet. Well i'm interested to see what happens but we also have some other news. Security among the systems impacted by the solar winds attack is the electron filing system. Used by the us federal courts at investigation is underway to determine if confidentiality of documents filed with the courts was breached and as a result starting wednesday confidential documents filed with the courts will be stored on standalone systems. Not uploaded big difference so these are documents sealed from public access because they contain sensitive information like investigative techniques identities of informants and a lot more other. Us federal agencies affected included the justice department the state treasury and energy departments as well solar winds has engaged. The krebs stay most security consulting group to help deal with this attack. That firm was formed by alex. Stamos the former chief security officer at yahoo and facebook and chris krebs the former director of the us cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency or sisa. So krebs was fired last month. By the president after finding no evidence of with voting systems in the twenty twenty election. Yeah stamos first of all brilliant for those two to team up and smart for solar winds to engage them for what they say is Helping with transparency with companies that are affected But this we we are not done finding out how bad this is. There are reports that there may have been other ways that this whoever is behind this intruded beyond just solar winds. They're finding evidence of that. They have not been able to root out the people that got into this vulnerability from all systems yet. They're still in there in a lot of cases. And you know this. This kind of confidential information is exactly the kind of thing you fear that someone would get intruding into a government system informants investigative techniques that you can now learn from to evade being prosecuted or caught yourself. That's that's crown jewel type stuff it's it's very interesting. In fact krebs spoke on record saying that it could potentially take years to figure out how deep the solar winds attack actually went and how many different kinds of infrastructure. You know brands and everything that it might have affected so this is not something. That's going to die anytime soon. I'm glad that they are reaching out. Craig's and stay most though because that i agree with you tom. It's excellent. excellent team roku made a few interesting announcements roku says. Npd data shows that the roku s was the top selling smarter operating system in the us and canada in two thousand twenty thirty one percent market share in canada. Thirty eight percent in the united states That's pushed the samsung's tizen number two. At least we don't actually know samsung's ties and was number. One in two thousand nineteen also announced a wireless soundbar reference design that uses wifi for its roku. Tv ready program remember. Last year roku announced the program which had a designed for wired. Sound bars. The program includes tcl. Pokemon on an element has just announced. They'll join as well with two point. Two point one ready sound bars roku tv ready to expand internationally later this year as well. But here's the big roku news roku has agreed to acquire exclusive global distribution rights to more than seventy five Shows documentaries some of which had not been released before qube shutdown. So there'll be some new stuff that nobody's ever seen after their exclusivity deal expires. That'll happen in a bit more than a year. Depending on the show roku will still have the rights to show the content just not exclusively until thousand twenty seven the content will have to be presented in original increments of ten minutes or less. The deal doesn't let them stitch it altogether. The content will be added to the more than forty thousand movies and tv shows already available. In the roku channel shows include from Be anyway punked. Murder house. Flip and dummy which stars anna kendrick. I never watched the new punk. I heard had its moments. The whole qube thing. It's really interesting to me because it was sort of like. It crashed and burned so quickly. And there's a lotta shot and friday around folks in the industry about it. And i think that's not because qube was doing things wrong. It was because the company had raised so much money time. Because you know. They had meg whitman. Jeffrey katzenberg who are you know. Heavy hitters and there was a little bit of like you are being to embassies and therefore you shall fail. The company did fail and the idea that some creators will have a new life on another platform shows. That just don't even saw but people still worked on. And maybe you're really good. I think this this makes a lotta sense and good for roku to get exclusivity for at least a few years so does roku have to wait at all in order to start showing this content or can happen immediately. I don't know when the start date. Whenever the deal is you know goes into effect. Then they'll immediately be able to to show it so you know within a month or so it would be my guess anyway but no they. They don't have once. The deal is actually in effect. They don't have to wait. What's going on here. is that the baby. Production companies own the rights to their own stuff but they have a two year exclusive for each one of their shows with qube and those two year exclusives are now being transferred to roku so roka will be able to have the exclusive for the remainder of whatever. The period was with quick. That's why it's more a year. Exclusively goes away then they still have the right to show it until twenty twenty seven but the production companies that made it can now start shopping at around to other places as well so the production companies do hold the content and remember this is just the content. Qube is still in a over. Its turnstile technology which is holding it up from selling its technology and i would expect once it resolves that lawsuit should resolve it in a way that they still hold their technology. They'll sell that to so this isn't the last you're going to hear could be selling off a part of it. I would imagine. Gotcha yeah that whole. The whole technology part of qube was again was an ambitious thing that was released at a very inopportune time in twenty twenty when everyone was like. We're just sitting at home like we don't need this like mobile phone technology. It's like cool that you can shifted around but you can't even cast thing. I mean the company did fix that pretty soon after allow about she was just. I mean it's just did. The timing couldn't be worse but that technology when you think of it in a variety of other form factors such as monitors that swivel talked about some of those yesterday. I don't know that qube or tiktok or snapchat or all of the stuff where we're like. Oh yeah that's the. That's the portrait view. Rather than landscape view. That works for certain apps is is is all that this is four. I think there's more to it So we'll see what happens and there's patents and things that are always valuable because you can use those to extract some concessions and money and stuff. So yeah expect that all to come join the conversation in our discord which you can join by linking to a patriotic. Can't get in there and talk about your favourite qube shows with all the other discord folks. Just lincoln to your patriotic out at patriotair dot com slash. Dpd s all right shannon. How do you clone a security key. Well i i will say please do not stop using your security keys because of this story i will explain it. Researchers from ninja lab published a paper on thursday showing how you could clone a google tightened security gate this is a two factor authentication key which is very similar to a you. Be key that you have to plug in or tap in order to access an account after putting in your username or your password credentials. Were both so in order to pull off the clone. You would need physical access to the key for about ten hours. Sometimes a minimum of ten hours just kind of depends on how good you are at this. About twelve thousand dollars worth of equipment physical equipment and custom software and some advanced skills in electrical engineering and cryptography as well. So you have to remove the chip and then take measurements of it at a being registered on each account that you went to attack the measurements observe electro magnetic radiation as the chip generates digital signatures that let the attacker slowly deduced the private key so measurements take about six hours per account. That's not including taking apart. The original tighten security key putting it back together. Then you need to seal the chip back into its case. You also need the targets password in order for this to work. So the reason it works is because of vulnerability in the security hardware chip residing within the google titan key and that is called an eighty seven hundred x by this company called. Xp if it's exploited in attacker could grab the elliptic curve cryptographic private key for the account and the same chip is actually found in other two factor. Authentication physical tokens as well like There's a ubiquity that it's found in but chances of attack or very very minimal given the scope of the attack so if you do all of this without the target ever noticing then they would never duplicated key but again given the scope given how much it costs and everything behind the scenes probably when it happened to normal user. The point of these security keys being the best way to use For two factor. Is that you can't even get at your private key right you. Nobody has to be able to get in there like the chip. Just doesn't make it available so the fact that they were able to get in there and get it is huge. You know the fact that they were able to do this is significant. But i mean if you're not a target of an advanced persistent threat. You don't need to worry about this. No one's going to go to the trouble to do this. And even if you're a target. I would guess shannon that most of them probably would be able to notice if someone took their key for ten hours or more you. You likely likely would especially since a lot of people with hardware tokens like google titan will stick them on a on their keychain for example like with their house keys or whatever wherever they keep all those personal physical devices that they don't want lost or stolen they keep them all on engaging so if somebody was to take one of these out of your purse out of your gym locker wherever it might be and remove it for like ten hour street minimum. You would likely know that this would have happened. the neat thing about these chips inside of these. Google tightened security keys. And any other cryptographic hardware tokens like these is that. Even the manufacturer doesn't know the private key so the fact that they were able to find vulnerability on these specific chipsets is really interesting. And i think that's the important bit of that. Is is even though the google titan like the end all be all of really excellent. Two factor authentication. There's always. The potential that vulnerabilities can be found. So i'm happy that this research came out. It's so fascinating and it's so interesting in this means that an x. p. and other security chipset manufacturers that sell these teeny tiny chips to google or whoever the company might be They can build on this. They can research and figure out what the next version of their chipset needs to entail in order to not be vulnerable to this again in the future. Yeah i mean this is really a good security story right. We finally figured out because there's always a way right. We finally figured out the way you get the private key out of a security key and guess what it's really hard takes a long time and now that we know it we can make it even harder and hopefully you know push that barrier out even further and even if somebody did have time to do this and you didn't notice i was reading the paper because i'm a huge nerd and they go as far as using fuming fuming nitric acid in order to get like melt the epoxy off of the original google titan. How are you going to put that back together. In order for somebody to not notice like there's a lot of intricacies with this attack in order for it to actually be pulled off so chances are very very slim that somebody would be able to pull off so again as i said at the very beginning. Don't stop using your google tightened security key if you have one keep using it because chances are you would never be attacked with this. Just just know if you haven't seen it in ten hours look together strange. This is going to be in a movie though. I'm calling that shot right now. We're gonna we're gonna see this movie. Where like i hope so. Somebody goes into surgery and they take his key and they go out and do all this and they slip it back in because ten hours later. He wakes up from anesthesia on something like that. I just hope they talked to the researchers so they actually show it off right. Yeah Sony tv and audio announcements Starting with details for its own tv lineup. Sticking with lead ravi x four k and k. Tv's will support four k at one hundred twenty hertz variable refresh rate vr as well as a l l m low latency mode and e arc. These are all things that are important. If you've got a ps five now you've got sony. Tv they can go. That sony also has an improved a chip that is going to improve the picture and sound positioning. So it aligns with what you see on the screen. Sony's master series. Tv's will come with a sensor that adjusts white balanced immense. Your ambiente color temp. You don't have to do anything they'll just do it. Also an aluminum heat shield. That will make for brighter. All the sets will support. Hdmi two point one. Another big one for ps five dolby vision hdr angle tv. Sony also announced. It's three hundred sixty reality audio platform if you're not familiar with three hundred sixty degree audio places instruments and vocals in a virtual sound field around your head but using just the one speaker so you can do this in an amazon echo or google. Home sony will start streaming video with three sixty audio later this year. Starting with concert from zara larsson on january eleventh. And somebody's gonna make speakers that support this. It'll be may supported by other speakers as well. But sony is going to put out the are five thousand and three thousand They've got that dark cloth. Surface that all these speakers seem to have these days with either bronze or silver accents. Work with google and amazon assistance and can connect to select sony abroad via. Tv's as well as supporting wi fi bluetooth. Spotify connect in google cast. The speakers do automated calibration to the room. They're in donut. The press a button for that. Either and we'll simulate three hundred sixty degree audio for stereo tracks as well. The five thousand cost five hundred pounds or five hundred ninety nine euros no. Us price yet on the three thousand two hundred eighty pounds. Three hundred fifty nine euros. This seems this. Seems like it's shaping up to be one of the trends. Is this the sort of three hundred sixty degree audio while you're listening to your black bank and it's just one speaker or potentially a couple of speakers ativan. Maybe yeah yeah already supported. Yeah there's less of kind of like What do i have to do. Five point one surround or at least get a couple of speakers and make them a stereo pair type thing. I really haven't heard this in. I don't know. I used to hang out at magnolia at best. Buy all the time. And just like geek out on stuff like this. of course. this technology wasn't around at the time. But it's really come on. Let's turn on some stuff and see the speakers. Do it works well. Then that's awesome my first reaction because i got rid of my kind of pants speakers some years ago because friend of mine needed them more than i did and i didn't have room in my apartment but i miss that i'm also an a. A permanent now that's smaller and kind of has a lot of weird angles and i find audio bounces off walls in wiz. That wouldn't if it was more of a square box broom So i'm not sure that i'm the perfect target market for this. You're the you're the one puts this through its paces and sees if it really works. Yeah if i could actually work as advertised again with some funny angles in a big old frame. Then i'm i'm really into this and i've always been. I don't have a sony. Tv currently sorry zony. But i was abroad. Bravi a person for years. Nears i think what the new bravi line is coming out with. Looks really nice. And i mean not totally in the market for a new tv. But i like the fact that i might get a new sony again paired up with a sony speaker. You got three six. Yeah already got all this stuff. It's going to be a messed anyway. You slice it. But i like. I like this to be sixty reality audio platform. What would you have set up in your house. I was straight up going to mention sonos because if if it doesn't have the connectability to be able to work with all of my other platforms that currently have invested in. Then chances are i wouldn't buy it. So i do have sono says in my house and i do have some issues connecting those with other speakers in the household to like like my google hub for example so the fact that this works with google and amazon assistant the speaker specifically The audio speakers. I think that's pretty cool. I like that. They are bringing that in and i am interested because i do live in a household. That has very high ceilings. How this would work in that kind of environment. So yeah. I'm very interested in the audio aspect. Well you might also be interested in what colour has come out. Oh yes the folks who make things like toilets and and sinks and lots of appliances however. Been a real. Cas mainstay for the last few years for some cool innovations and this year is no different. Even though we're not in vegas koehler has a new smart bathtub called the stillness bath. That lets you use an app or use your voice using google or amazon's assistance to fill up the water or perhaps set the mood by changing the color of the lights around the tab or even add some fog. You know you wanna kind of pretend like you're in the then present routines also turn on features in a certain orders if you wanna get kind of creative. that's cool. Yeah the certain amount of limitations with the base model and the base model is not cheap so temperature and depth control models alone will cost around eight thousand six hundred ninety eight dollars. That's right it's almost nine thousand dollar bathtub. If you want the experience tower that lets you activate fog and aromatherapy. That will run you just over ten thousand dollars. Both models are available in july. There are real things and if you want the version with lights and floor grades for overflow fifteen thousand nine hundred ninety eight dollars available. This october signed me off. I won't be buying those. Nope not even a little bit but we could have taken a bath at s in the new in the pre show roger was like. Why would you want fog. It's like this. Why does anyone want to be on. Yeah racist luxury suites in hotels for sure as well as apple's houses sure yeah something well. Yeah it's it's that like hey look at what my bath can do people go. Wow very fancy and then you know ten years from now will be like remember when we thought it was fancied to talk to your bathtub so that it would start filling up without touching it but Yeah it's it's somewhat silly because of the price. But i'm not really much of a bath person but they do look very nice all right. Let's check out the mail bag but ads do it. Nick wrote in with a pronunciation. Ramps own neck. You are not alone he says. Ac's rog is an initial list. Because it's our og like fbi or cia. People say ron yet. They're lower end gaming brand tough not initially them. It's an acronym like scuba or produce you f but pronounced off. It's like ace's can't make up their name minds. Then there's strict which is our subbrand strikes as a word it's a completely nonsensical made up word. But it's a word and you pronounce it as such nick as honestly as somebody. That buys a lot of hardware. Because i've rarely had a bad experience with them over the past twenty years. I am baffled by some branding decisions. The one the bugs me. The most is the strict subbrand. Sometimes acis makes the tricks products. The high end product in the product stock yet other times. It's a mid range product. Here's a first look at Apple's $549 AirPods Max headphones

"I wanna talk to you about the airpods max. There was many rumors this fall that these were coming and being mid december. It looked like maybe we're not gonna get it before. Two thousand twenty one but no early on tuesday morning apple announced and released the airpods max. They went up for sale. I think it was like eight thirty in the morning and to everyone's shock and awe and let's just talk about now five hundred and fifty dollar price tag for the airpods. Max i would love to have your initial thoughts not only on the price tag but on the name. Because i kind of wish. They went with studio because the rumored codename airpods studio because they're over the your headphones with the cups. Noise cancelling airpods max. I don't know it sounds a little funny. What do you think william. I did as she laughed when i saw the name but only because apple keeps used to keep everything secret and now everything seems to come out but they hit us with a new name. We weren't expecting and that did the same with the apple a. m water. It is like there's a naming department that can keep a secret. I agree studios san sense better so these headphones they're very expensive. They're five hundred and fifty dollars despite that they're basically sold out until march if you try to buy a pair now it'll say twelve to fourteen weeks shipping time so even despite the price very popular you can actually go and watch him hd. And i just actually have these. They did initial videos unboxing and some initial thoughts. I'll put those links in show notes as well just kind of a quick specs. These are over the ear cups headphones controls on these. It is all physical controls. There's a large digital crown on one of the earcups that you'll use to adjust volume or you can press it down for siri. And then there's also another button to go from transparency to noise cancelling mode so they have a lot of the features of the airpods pro. They have spatial audio. They can do dolby. Atmos and seven point. One surround virtually in the headphones. So that's all very cool but a couple of the noticeable omissions will say no power brick in the box so with your five hundred and fifty dollar headphones. You do not get a powerbook to charge you. Do get a cable. You get a usb c a lightening cable so you can charge it with one of the twenty usb c charging that apple will sell you but it also does not come with the cable to physically connect these headphones to an audio source. If you would like that you have to pay an additional thirty five dollars for a lightning. Two three and a half millimeter cable to plug into an audio source and again the fact that they went with lightning on instead of usb bbc. I'm not sure i feel about that. But those are the omissions and again on that price tag at least put the cable in there. I don't know that's just me. What do you feel wind. Packwood's and i agree with you. That seems wrong. I know we got loose. Packers have old ones. So i don't know how much use they would be i. It never occurred to me to think about a physical connection with this their wireless headphones release anything else. But actually yeah. If i am a musician pro use a full who. This is a bargain but a worthwhile cost. I'm likely to want to better connection wireless bluetooth so yeah on quite taken aback. Especially if you cross into that audio file realm and one of things. I'm going to do with it I did order a pair though becoming tuesday. So i'll be able to talk about him on next week's episode personally but i'm actually a classical music fan. I don't think i've ever share this with amish on the podcast. But i'm a classical trumpet player. That's my wife degree. yes i love. Actually listening to classical music. Believe it or not and so. I'm very curious to see how these sound. On some of those mozart requiems and brahms symphonies at to see the audio quality is really up to snuff. But for five hundred fifty dollars should sound amazing. You know per se. Obviously this is in comparison and in competition with headphones. Like the sony w.h. Xm fors which usually cost like three hundred. Three hundred and fifty dollars was like attuned dollar premium for these and the bose noise cancelling headphones seven hundred are very popular. Those are around three hundred and forty dollars. So you're getting two hundred to two hundred and fifty dollar premium to pay for these airpods. Max so i really hope have to imagine that the sound quality is excellent. But you're also paying for apple's features like the h. One chips the ability to the noise. Cancelling connect your devices seamlessly switch just like other airpods and airpods pro another cool feature to the cups. The ear cushions that are on the headphones are actually connect magnetically. And so if you want to replace the earcups for whatever reason they come off very easily and attach very easily as well and hd shows that had his video looks pretty satisfying and you can also get replacement ear cushions again. Not cheap but seventy bucks on apple you can actually order them now in the apple store and on their website but you can get replacement cushions for seventy dollars again in the future if you need them and you can mix and match colors. There's actually a cool chart you know if you will have to get the space gray headphones and put some blue cushions on it. You can be fancy like that if you'd like but again you're paying a premium for all these. I don't know. I'm curious to try them. But these don't tempt you at all as i once used the bose actions that you mentioned don. I was very impressed on. I do like us. I'm more of a malla guide. The mets on no. It doesn't tempt me. Except there is one thing this one specification you've just kind of lewd to skipped a very good. That is crucial. What color did you buy on. I won't with space gray because the size of these. I mean they're large. They're over the ear headphones. And i like to be discreet when i'm around other people the rare times that happens and so white white was tempting. But i don't have so much you know every other airpod is white and i didn't like the green or the pinkish red color. Blue was the only other one that tempted me. But i don't know. I just went discreet. I want black now. You wouldn't touch. That's what it is so next day. Jiang at a party somewhere. Nobody's gonna notice because she didn't have blue headphones. That's what i would have gone full blitz. Obviously the blue did look very nice. i was tempted. Also attempt to engrave these. I've actually never engraved an apple product. I don't know why i just have never done. It and i was very close to engraving these. But i had a moment of. I don't know what to put on them. And i know shipping. Times are gonna slip. So i just four went the engraving and just sorta without. But i'm curious william. Have you ever engraved an apple product. No because of always thoughts. And i'm gonna pass it on somebody else or might resell it to somewhere right. So it's been like having a set to somebody on their name. Just you break up with something. It feels wrong in a weird way. It feels like it's studies the the pristine finish of the device as well especially if you wanna resell it. That definitely makes it more difficult but I know you have tons of tattoos. You have sleeves don't you. Have you have tattoos all over please. I'm not illustrated unless you know what you said about coming up with something to say. I know whatever. I had written on me. I would change my mind magic instantly and want to me. I did work with a young writer. Who said she was aiming to have some text for every significant part of her life tattooed on and i wished to long life and much fatness so that you have room okay. Well staying on the grieving for a second. I saw that in addition to letters you can actually engrave emojis on apple products. Now you can choose emojis if you'd like. So here's my question to you william. If you could engrave any emoji apple device what emoji do you think you would choose. Would it be the winking smiley face sticking out the tongue or would it be money flying away. What do you think is the money involved here with page to do this. I give you twenty bucks. Yeah i need more need more. I need a lot more needs to pay for the hedge funds and then i feel that's nice cost parlance I'm i'm a writer. I can't bear emojis next. Particularly i had a message from a singer songwriter. I profoundly admire but it was all in emojis. And i have no idea what she was saying. It was just. I think it's gonna start communicating with you william. I'm gonna do all emojis from now on well good by sending emerges did not sending me pat. That's where you're going wrong. You sending the wrong listen. Listen we'll see when that when the next ipad comes out the battery life on my ipad. I don't know what's going on but it is I don't know. It's a little rough. When i edit podcast. It's great at any at any other time. So that new model comes out. I don't know we'll see you keep playing this long game gas lighting me. I'll just send it off without even thinking about it.

The iPhones 12

"Mike, yes Lauren Mike, are you going to upgrade your iphone? Well have an iphone. But it has five gene. Yeah, who cares? Let's see if we can answer that on this week's show. Hi Everyone. Welcome to gadget lab. I'm lauren good. I'm a senior writer at wired and I'm joined remotely by my Co host wired senior editor Michael Cholerae. He who does not have an iphone hello from Pixel land. And we're also joined by wired senior associate editor. Julian Chicago to who has like seventeen different phones on him right now. Hey Julie in below my desk has like six phones on right now so. So today we are talking about yet another apple event this week apple announced a new iphone twelve, actually four of them and a tiny smart speaker, and these are the first iphones with five G. which matters doesn't matter doesn't matter yet. We're GONNA talk about five G. later on in the show what you need to know about it the challenges and rolling it out across the US and whether you'll even be able to connect to five G. With the new IPHONE are calling. We'll night is going to join us later on for that but first, let's talk about the phones themselves. Jillian. Phone has championed edges. Let's get that out of the way. That's probably the most important thing here, right? Okay. But obviously, there's more than that what stood out to you most about the new iphones twelve as someone who takes a lot of photos and tests the cameras on phones a lot. A. Lot of their camera upgrades. We're the most exciting thing for me and and I really like how a lot of those camera upgrades are kind of for the most part. All across the entire lineup from the 699 iphone twelve mini, you're getting the same main camera that they improve the aperture on as the iphone twelve pro. But for the most part that iphone twelve pro, you get these new features like pro raw, which gives you the ability to edit. Raw photos and also get the benefits of apples, computational photography, and that is just someone something that's really exciting for someone who takes a lot of raw photos with my camera just gives you more granular control over photo editing and also the other thing is they're bringing night mode to every single lens that's on this phone. So finally, you can take a Selfie, at night and not have to worry about it being too terrible, looking or grainy. So overall I think the entire suite of camera features on the entire range is pretty exciting and pretty dramatically better than what you had last year on the iphone eleven. And tell us about some of the video improvements to yes. For the improvements, they added the ability to shoot HDR with Dolby Vision, which is you know apparently the only phone that can do this and basically lets you get this program cinematic looking effector or look. You could say with all of your videos at ten bits of it's like super high quality. It just looks really good. With the option to edit the colors and have really good cinematic looking video as well with the iphone twelve pro you there have this improved stabilization system that moves the sensor itself. So basically, in fact, you're getting something that feels and looks much more high quality than ever before, and again, this is somewhere where apple leads compared to every other phone manufacturer except maybe Samsung is pretty close. No one else does the ability to shoot video quality this well, and it's just every year. It just seems to be getting further and further away from other companies even like you. Google. Pixel phones that take really great photos Mike what did you make the event? You know my favorite thing that I saw this week was the mini, the small phone small phones in general are exciting to me. Our colleague Brian Barrett wrote this week that the arrival of the iphone twelve mini is a harbinger of good for the small phone community I think you know fabulous when they came out what was it like eight years ago or so we started seeing these gigantic phones and then. People really liked them and they started them in huge numbers. So phones just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. We've all been waiting for phones to get small again, phones have gotten smaller, but they haven't really gotten small enough, and now this year I think phones are starting to get just about small enough to satisfy the people who are looking for small phone I was out last week two weeks ago at A. Socially distanced event and I saw a guy with a Sony experience x to compact, which is like a really tiny. It's even smaller than the iphone mini android phone and I asked him about it. I went over to him six feet away and I said, Hey, what is that and he started going on and on about it and the way that he was talking about it was so passionate and I realize that. Like okay. You know what? There is a huge market. People are really really passionate about smartphones and people are GonNa flip when they see the mini I think coming until November So I, think for people who really want it. They're going to have to resist clicking that buy button for a couple of weeks

A Look At Apple's Hi, Speed Event

"Few huge surprises at apple's high speed event though. There were some unexpected bits. Did. Anybody. See The verizon thing coming? Did we have any idea what? MAG SAFE WAS GONNA turn out to be. There we'll get to those. Most of today's presentation is drawn from a couple of viewings of the Apple Park presentation. We'll also pull from the usual suspects doing their usual bang-up jobs. Tuesday's high-speed event presentation started with Apple CEO Tim Cook welcoming viewers back to Apple Park than throwing the presentation almost immediately to others to give the INS and outs of home pod. Many. Bob Board richer's apple VP worldwide product marketing listed the company's desires for home pod. Wanting. The device to have amazing sound to act as an intelligent assistant to serve as a smart home hub all while protecting the privacy and security of the user. This, they say they do in a smaller spherical unit that costs less than one third of the original home pods original asking price. On the amazing sound side company bragged on the devices ro properties as well as how well it plays with others. Others being other apple devices. Users can apparently sink home pod many's either a stereo pairs or to play the same audio throughout the home. The. Inclusion of apples you one processor makes handoff easier to handle according to the company. For what it'll play. Well, there's the usual stuff apple music, apple podcasts, iheartradio radio DOT COM tuned in with Pandora and Amazon music on the way in the coming months. As for the smart part Home Pod, many will handle or interact with messages. Calendar phone calls maps music because. The. Weather reminders and find my feature. There was also an interesting demo where users ask for personal updates and got them. personalized. So he you know multiple voice recognition is key. Now. One new feature mentioned and de Mode was intercom. This is basically what it sounds like. You tell home pod to deliver a message to everybody and the various apple devices in the house including other home pods, iphones, apple watches air pods, and even carplay units play or display the message. I have heard entercom will work with the original home pods as well though not seeing that confirmed. Addressing. It's smart home hub nece home pod many integrates with apple's home APP that lets control home connected accessories said scenes and stuff like that. Covering User Privacy Apple, says no word spoken to Home Pod, leave your home until you touch home pod many or say he. S I are. So, yes, it is always listening but what it here's goes nowhere until you give it the command. Request. A home pot or not associated with apple ID. You choose whether recordings are saved by apple personal requests only work when the associated iphone is home with you. And communications with smart home accessories used strong encryption according to the company. Now I, said earlier that the unit is spiritual. If you've seen a home pod, there is no mistaking what this thing is. Same sort of light up display on the top same mesh wrapping it's roundedness and the same white and space grey options as the original home pod. Coming soon to flat surface near you. Orders for home pod many began on the sixth of November unit, start, shipping the week of the sixteenth of November. Not Price, to beat an echo but not a device that will break the bank. Home Pod many will sell. For, Ninety, nine bucks. Okay. I pretend to hear you say but I'm worried about breaking my home pause many. Not sure why but better to be safe in your case. To that end apple care plus we'll be available for home pod. Many. A piece from macrumors says, that will run buyers fifteen bucks. When Tim Cook was back on camera, he took a moment to Brag on iphones past noting the iphone eleven has been the number one smartphone in the world since its launch and that I phone has led the industry in customer satisfaction every year since it's Get ready to hate all of them as the iphone twelve line makes the scene bringing with it five G. Connectivity. Which one? All of them. Had Been Rumored Apple announced four iphone phone twelve models and has had also been rumored. Each can support five G.. Cook says, five G. Brings A new level of performance for downloads UPLOADS, higher quality video streaming, more responsive gaming, real time interactivity, and more. The CEO says five Jia superfast, which he actually pitched as a security feature speeds are so good. He says you'll be less tempted to sign on the public WIFI limiting exposure to the dangers that lurk there. Every decade brings new technology that provides a step change in what we can do with iphone said Cook. Today. A new era begins for iphone. Today we're bringing by G. to phone. Then began the verizon commercial. Hans Fest Berg Chairman and CEO. Verizon took to the stage talk about big reds five G. offering. Verizon's by ultra wideband with large quantities of millimeter wave access will be live and sixty cities across the US by the end of this year. In ideal conditions, Best Burg says the carriers seen four gigabits down and two hundred megabits up. The four gigabits is kind of funny own Antonio Guy says an ideal conditions. Well it doesn't sound like you're getting four GIGA beds but we'll get, him. The other thing best Burger announced was flipping the switch on Verizon's extensive five gene nationwide network. That apparently went live yesterday. Boy would I like to know the terms of the deal worked out between, that bill and Verizon? Emphasis on particular carrier. I did not see coming. Now I said iphone twelve comes in four models here the rumor mill rang true. The phones are iphone twelve iphone twelve many iphone twelve pro and iphone twelve pro, Max. Starting with iphone twelve, remember the squared off edges of iphone Four. The new design returns us to that. Squared edges that meet flush with the devices front and back glass the front classes something special though. Working with corning delay, this display is protected by what apple. Calls Ceramic. Shield. It is said by the company to be tougher than any other smartphone class with four times better dropped performance than iphone eleven. The display it's protecting is apple custom Ole ed providing truer blacks, better contrast and two times the pixels iphone eleven or four, hundred, sixty pixels per inch. While that displays the same six point one inches iphone eleven, apple shrank the surrounding enough to make iphone. Eleven percent than her fifteen percent smaller and sixteen percent lighter than iphone. Eleven Choice of colors is not huge but they are pretty. With options and black. White Product Red Green. And blue that. Does things for me. I shouldn't talk about in mixed company. The candy coating is nice. Let's talk about. It's Chewy. Chocolate center starting with the phones five Genus Apple says, iphone twelve has the most five G. bands of any smartphone for better performance in more places. Additionally the company's silicon, the software approach. Let's apple make the best use of available five G. including choosing to not use five. G.. It sounds like iphone defaults to lt e tapping into five G. when it's both necessary and available. That is great for power consumption according to the company. Apples tested the new phones on over one hundred carriers and over thirty regions. In ideal conditions iphone twelve gets up to three point five gigabits on. which is what makes the Brian Bragging about four gigabytes down kind of funny yesterday. It does support millimeter wave those so. got that going for it. As, for the phones on workings iphone twelve powered by apple's a fourteen bionic, the first phone powered by the five nanometer processor technology packing eleven point eight billion transistors roughly forty percent more than eight thirteen. A six core CPU that's up to fifty percent faster than last year's phone and a four core GPU graphics that are up to fifty percent faster than last year's model. Machine learning also gets a boost iphone, twelve packs of sixteen coordinator and Gen that's up to eighty percent faster than iphone eleven capable of eleven, trillion operations per second. Company bragged on Games claiming console quality for the phone. To Demonstrate and executive from riot games showed off League of legends wild rift a mobile, only game due out later this year. Well phone twelve is not the phone photographers would choose. There's plenty of improvement and it's cameras. Apple says the phone has a twelve megapixel ultra wide camera and twelve megapixel wide camera. It said the sport, the fastest aperture yet it also features a seven element lens that apple says offers twenty-seven percent improvement in low light performance. Mag Save is an internal thing. Rather than a name for a connector is in days of old MAG. Safe today is a collection of magnets and charging elements that help line up the phone for proper charging. When it's not charging those magnets go to work holding on cases and wallets and third party stuff. Apple expects a thriving ecosystem of third party doodads take advantage of the newly introduced MAG. Safe. Ness. Mag Safety. Safe thing. Anyway. It's a thing built into iphone twelve. Every model in the line. Now's probably phone twelve many. Except for the size, you can take everything I've said so far about iphone twelve and play it back. iphone twelve many has the same specs as iphone twelve though in a slightly smaller size. The company says the mini is smaller and lighter than four point seven inch models like iphone eight but with a bigger five point four inch display. Apple says, this one is the smallest thinnest and lightest five G. phone. In the world. Talking about last night with Frederik, Van Johnson, and a few other folks on Chuck joiners Mac. Voices. We came to the conclusion that the pro phones for two groups, people who wanna spend as much money as they can afford. Or people who really care about the camera. There's nothing wrong with the camera functionality and the iphone twelve or iphone twelve many. Unless you count they're not being as high end as the camera on the high end. No I'm not a high end photo guy. So there was a lot set around iphone twelve pro, an iphone twelve pro Max that escapes me. The camera on iphone twelve pro boxes said by apple to have a sixty five millimeter focal length from fifty two millimeter focal length and last year's counterpart. It's got five times optical zoom range and the set to support an eighty seven percent improvement in low light versus last year's top of the pro line. I do know enough to be impressed by one thing. The pro line can shoot an apple pro raw. or it will be able to with a software update. Later, this year photographers will also be able to edit those images. Directly, in the photos APP. The pros can also handle. HD are video recording catching seven hundred million colors. Sixty Times, the number they could capture before. Apple, said they also sport the first smartphone camera that'll record in dolby vision hd are. And just like the apple pro raw functionality users will be able to edit the dobie vision HDR video in the photos APP. Finally the light are rumors were finely true the twelve pro and twelve pro Mac speech or a world facing light detection and ranging scanner. That let folks scan and modeled their surroundings. Apples Demos showed that put to use for placing objects in an augmented reality environment performing improved autofocus and low light and improving camera that perception in low light for night moat. Working our way out of these phones, Greg, Joswiak, apple's newly minted senior. VP Worldwide Marketing talked about a few of the pro lines features. It's got mad safe. It's got ceramic shield. It's got a Super Ratna FDR display. As for sizes iphone twelve pro gets bumped from five point eight inch display display size of six point one inches the pro Max meanwhile goes six point five inch display to a display size of six point seven. All of it is bound by the same squared off edges as iphone twelve, the with a couple of distinctions. I. The outer band is stainless steel on the pro line and second the colors are a bit more refined. Coming in silver graphite a gold that looks seriously golden. And the Pacific. Blue that doesn't do as much for me as the blue on the IPHONE twelve. Not that I'd turn it down. If cost is your primary concern. Here is what you're looking at across the whole line of iphones. iphone se. Start Three, hundred, ninety, nine dollars iphone ten are starts at four ninety, nine iphone eleven starts at five, ninety, nine iphone many starts at hundred ninety, nine dollars iphone twelve starts at seven ninety, nine, iphone twelve pro starts at nine, ninety nine. An iphone Pro Max starts at one, thousand, ninety, nine dollars. For the new phones though those prices are only Kinda SORTA true. Peace, from the Mac Observer says iphone twelve many an iphone twelve do start at six, ninety, nine and seven, ninety nine if you buy them as a t and T or verizon phones if you buy one is either a sprint or t mobile phone or as an unlocked phone. The starting prices are seven, twenty, nine, and eight, twenty nine. With no indication as to why. While it's great that ceramic shield means less of a chance of broken display. The chance is still there. If that bugs, you apple care pluses there for all of them. macrumors says, two years of coverage will run one, hundred, forty, nine dollars for iphone and twelve mini. Adding loss or theft protection will up that price to to nineteen buyers can get ongoing coverage for seven, ninety, nine per month or eleven dollars and forty nine cents with loss and theft added. As for the higher end phones, the pizzas, two years of Apple Care Plus will cost one, nine, thousand, nine or nine dollars ninety nine cents per month. Theft. And loss coverage bumps that price to two, hundred, sixty, nine dollars or thirteen dollars and forty nine cents per month. Ongoing. As for availability, apple is starting in the middle. And working out. Would owners can order iphone twelve and iphone twelve pro this Friday the sixteenth. October. They'll be delivered the following Friday the twenty third. If you're targeting either end of the range. iphone twelve, many an iphone twelve pro Max will go up for order on the sixth of November. Delivery should hit the following Friday the thirteenth of November. Barring incident which I have to say because. Friday

Chromecast with Google TV can finally take on Roku and Fire TV Stick 4k

"Veiled the guys last week and got a little lost in the shuffle with the nest audio and Pixel. Five debuts. So what's new what the chrome cast? So the big thing with the crown cast is that it now has a remote and an interface. Those are two long awaited features. You no longer have to rely solely on your phone or tablet or computer to take Netflix's Surg, Youtube and put it onto your TV and I mean, talk a little bit about some of the features on that remote, as well as the interface what what is new about it and is it was it like to us? So I guess we'll break this onto two things we'll start with what's new a google system is very present on the new chrome cast. There's a dedicated assistant button it actually is in a different hue on the remote stands out. It's Pretty active as far as being the interface as well, and you can actually control most of the chrome cats functions with Google system, which is great it really it does a nice job as far as what else is new beyond the interface remote that really covers the bulk of it. There's also Dobie vision and they'll be utmost if you have a compatible TV and sound system. What about that Google TV experience I know it's a revamped version of what they previously called Android TV what's different about it like how and how does it work? So it's kind of new for you page. So the big the big push with. Google TV is a new interface it a new layout that looks more like a Amazon's fire TV. than the old way, which had you basically scrolling through each apps now there's Content in the four as opposed to each APP having it's own separate. Column. Ero-. and. It makes it a lot easier to use it. It's designed to help you find things to watch. As. Opposed to mindlessly scrolling through. Netflix. And then scrolling through prime video or HBO or any of the other many streaming APPs that are available a lot. This seems like upgrade or anything you don't like about this thing. So I had a couple moments where it lacked it wasn't as fast as say Amazon's fire TV, stick four K., which is a similarly. Priced. Streaming dangle. That has Alexis Google Assistant. Random issues where assistant where if I asked to watch them a big marble and so I'd asked to watch avengers infinity war and it would start playing on. Youtube. TV through TBS which has the broadcast rights or the cable rights rather as opposed to recognizing that I subscribed to Disney plus and playing it in four K. on Disney plus subscription. So it just doesn't assistant doesn't always know right now what the best way to watch a particular show movies. It also had a weird issue where unofficial. Weird issue. But you can't actually power this or I wasn't able to power this off of the USB port on my television. I had to use the included seven and a half. Watt Power after which I don't know about you, I like plugging these things directly into the TV running off the USB power it's less cables to see it's easier to to install not having to find an empty outlet. And the fact that this at least with my lg Ola that I was testing into couple years old the old lead, but it's still a fairly recent TV. The fact that wouldn't power and function off of what was provided from the USB port was a bit surprising. Yes. Someone who has his roku plugged into the USB poor of his TV, I can definitely appreciate the need for something like that because it cuts down on the number wires behind your TV. And living in a household with multiple kids you WanNa have as few wires as possible. So that's kind of annoying. Setback. But you know that that that's not the biggest deal you talked about Google assistant and how it's front and center in this Did you find when you were using this? You're using Google system a lot more or were you reverting back this year? The traditional way you'd use remote control, right just the using the standard volume channel of Buns or like how how did having assistant on their control changed the way you interact with this change in the couple is so. Big in the ANDROID. Google TV. Sorry interfaces for you page which I guess it's a personalized page based off of shows and movies that you like and. Content that you traditionally watch and what is recommending was actually pretty good. That's the default homepage. Ties in necessarily to the assistant the ties to some that personalization aspects I find that to be pretty useful as far as what Google is doing there, and for the assistant director part the voice portion of it. I found myself constantly using assistant to open APPs or two. I was using TV and fan. So just to switch between football and the Yankee game saying. Okay Google the key game in having automatically switched to the right channel. Was Super Helpful and it was doing this regardless of whatever APP was in. So I was watching something on Netflix are on regular youtube and I wanted to see what was going on the Yankee game I'd say Okay Google hold the button down okay Google go to the Yankees game and it would do that. Sometimes it took a few seconds to do that at one point I timed. It knows over ten, which for live TV is pretty bad. Ten second wait between when you want to go somewhere say you WanNa go somewhere and when it actually appears. that needs to improve tremendously, and it wasn't that I had a bad internet connection I have couple hundred megabits per second more on testing. So that needs to improve at otherwise the assistant has been great to use an pretty surprised to say that because voice assistance on these streaming devices. Has Been At least in my experience a bit more hit or miss. So taken together with all these new features, their control and just to clarify. Cost, fifty dollars and that's that's more than the previous rate it is. Go to models previously, there was a chrome cast macroom castle tre. So this does pretty much everything. The chrome cats ultra does the higher end I believe it was seventy dollars model that now's only available in a stadium bundle for now studios actually coming to. Chrome cast with Google TV, this new device, but it's not coming until sometime officially in the believe first half of twenty twenty one. So sometime, next year. So this is actually cheaper. The matter is more expensive than the HD, only chrome cast but that for I believe it was thirty dollars, lacks the interface lacks a remote lacks four case for twenty dollars more you get all that plus the ability to run all these APPs without having to rely on your phone computer tablet. Got It. So taking all together, the price, the new features, the remote control, how does this stack up against similar option from Roku, Amazon through its fire TV line so that's a great question. It really depends on what world you live in. That's how look at this. If you are somebody who has a lot of Amazon devices, I'm not gonNA say the word because I don't want to trigger things. If you have a lot of those devices and you're very much in the Amazon World The fire TV stick four K. is excellent. It's faster than this. The election degration sorry said that word is not as strong as Google, assistant. But it is a very capable, very impressive device. If you have a lot of apple devices roku streaming stick plus which is forty dollars is an equally compelling option especially when it has play which roku announce, the other week is coming at some point soon. So it really depends on where you you find yourself if you just want all the APPs and this has hbo Mac, which is something that Amazon, Roku currently lack. This is not a bad option. Yeah. That was the fault question there because there's been a lot fusion about which streaming services are available on in which dreamers. The generally, the chrome cast is pretty much covered for all your services, the croome cast with Google TV, because they're still regular chrome cast being sold. This one has I would say out of the major ones ninety, nine percents of is missing. Apple. TV plus. Is available on Roku Amazon, and of course, the Apple TV if you want something that currently has everything you have to get an apple TV. Apple TV. For K., but those I think the Apple TV fourcade currently hundred eighty dollars or so. So you have to pay a sizable upgrade plus some pretty old hardware at this point has been rumored to be prepping new boxes of some kind. Were to do that for a while maybe comes out your maybe it doesn't through kind of all over the map there. But that's the only one that has every major streaming service Google has everyone but apple TV plus roku Amazon have everyone bought Hbo Max so it really depends. You S reviewer I'm just curious how you put these things which pesos what is the review process look like especially when you're doing this at home It's a lot of watching. TV. And a of watching movies and seeing how it performs. In a variety of different settings. So different TV's different picture options with different content sources so Disney plot for example, on the Google TV doesn't stream currently until be vision but Netflix does have some content available in dolby vision and will be. Available on the chrome cast with Google TV. So it's it's comparing different things. It's comparing the performance of those content sources to how a roku streaming stick plosser Amazon Fire TV stick for K.. Would handle playing back that particular movie or TV show or piece of live. Content TV's sports. And just comparing and contrasting to watching that sounds like a really tough job. Ultimately is worth. Fifty dollars I think. So if you again keeping in mind that. The exact situation will vary if you like Apple TV, this is not the option for you. If you have a very big Amazon household you wanted to tie in. Really. Well to your rings. And to some of your other Amazon devices. This isn't the option for you. if you want to do airplay, this isn't the option trio. But if you want something that's simple that has a solid interface that has really good remote and isn't that expensive at fifty dollars is a pretty good choice.

A Look at the Amazon Event 2020

"To this big amazon event. There was so much stuff so much stuff that was announced. Although it wasn't all related to Lexi specifically, but I'm just going to run through a couple of things in general just logically about the things that they announced and then I'm going to focus on some of the things that are a little more relevant to us Canadians. I will say first of all the thing that I noticed the most with this with this event, I was very fortunate to be invited to a watch online and the the big theme to me seemed the ambient home Amazon is really really stressing this idea of ambient Computing where the wage Devices where the computers were the the technology is just around us and that is why Lexie is such an important part of this but it's not the only part and so they did announce a number of products and I will come back to these in a bit but they announced the new Echo all of these are now spherical which is very interesting and I'll talk more about that. Like I say in a few moments they announce a new Echo. They announce a new Echo dot with clock being else a new Echo. For kids. This looks like it's only going to be the United States for now. They announced a new Echo Show ten, which is really interesting. It actually moves to follow you thought more about that in a few moments. They also announced a Fire TV stick a new version of Fire TV stick light 06 a wireless mesh system for home Euro-Pro 6, they announce a whole bunch of ring alarms for the car. So a ring Car Alarm a ring car cam and a ring always home cam which is very interesting. Is a device that is in your home and it's actually a little drone crazy stuff. This is like sci-fi stuff will come back to that one as well. And then they also launched something called Luna game controller and it looks like Amazon's new game streaming service is built using this control and it's built in the cloud, which is very interesting as opposed to other gaming sources. So that is the quick rundown on what they announced some of the things that I expected to see that I didn't see were any updates on any type of wearable devices because I always think I still think that when you compare let's say Google or Samsung to Amazon you think Amazon's doing such amazing things, but what is their weakness is that they don't have their own phone. And so I bought one of their strategies to get Lexie into the ears. Everybody is to get Lexie everywhere as I say have have Lexie everywhere and one of the ways I think they could be doing that is through wearables like last year. We saw the March 8th. The glasses and the echo Loop the ring but this year we didn't see anything like that. And I don't know I have questions about that is that because they have some more products that are in the works, but they weren't quite yet ready to be released. Is it because they've changed their strategy? I'm not sure but I I did find that out quite interesting. Now. I do want to talk specifically about the the devices the new device has rejected to Lexi of course and Tyler. Each one and some pre release dates and pricing and all that kind of fun stuff. Okay. So let's talk about the new Echo. So as you know, the echo previously was the cylindrical device. It's the basic device that thought they are released and there's been a number of iterations number of generations. And now we are out. We're up to the echo fourth-generation. Let me tell you a little about this first of all it took Spherical I think it looks pretty cool. I think it's very modern. And now the ring light is actually kind of along the bottom so around the base of the sphere. So it's a sphere with sort of a flat base and the ring lights along that flat base at the bottom. And so when it's when the ring light is on depending on the lighting of the room, it actually kind of creates a little bit of a a bluish glow down onto the surface which it looks pretty cool. It's actually got its got better technology. Obviously when they're releasing a new version on the top. It does have a microphone on and off button is still some buttons along the top of the sphere but they appear at least from the picture to be more flush with the sphere. This one comes in charcoal. It comes in glacier white and it came in Twilight blue. Okay, and here's something very interesting about this is it looks like Amazon has gotten rid of the Echo Plus and if you remember the Echo Plus had the smart home hub in it now the echo. The Hub built into it so great. I mean if you're looking for the ability to set up zigbee devices or for example ring smart lighting Products and all that kind of stuff locked sensors, it's now made simple with the standard Echo. It is part of that the other thing that it has built into it now that I should mention is it has a temperature sensor so you can also know the temperature off the bat and you know, you would expect that then based on temperature settings. This will be able to control Smart Home actions. The dimensions wage of this device are approximately 14 and half centimeters wide by about thirteen centimeters tall. So it's probably around the size of a softball maybe a little bit bigger than a softball but that gives you an idea of the size of this device. It has a three inch woofer in it and it's got two front firing a tweeters 4 a.m. Frequencies with Dolby audio technology, so that's great. And what's the price? Well, let me tell you. It's 1 29 99 and you can order this right now off on amazon.ca. The pre-orders are being taken right now. It will be released on October 22nd. So if you want to get this when it comes out, then go ahead and order them as

Endgame Dobie Dolby. I'm max, there's an oxymoron for you. Is that the best option Dolby an I max or two completely different things. And I I try to make this point as often as I can because people often do get them confused. Dolby cinema is from Dobie, obviously. And it includes two laser projectors and dole the atmos- sound. I'm axe had you can see it either in regular digital or laser luminated digital. And if it's laser limited to digital. It does have two projectors. It does have some overhead sound but not the same as Dobie app. Most OB at Moses by far the better overhead sound system, in my opinion, or immersive sound system. Also, Dobie vision. Has a greater dynamic ranch higher visual dynamic range, the NYMEX Max's greater than regular theaters. But it is not as high dynamic range as Dobie vision in adobe cinema..

"Eleven AM. If you can do that. People. Oh, why do you think why do you think I don't want to leave my house art our theater struggling right now? They are attendance. Right now TV's got a lot of competition. So yeah, have Bill get up there and say be quiet, and you know, speaking of the cost when I went to a star is born. I wanted a reserved seat it cost me twenty one dollars for that. Reserve. Okay, sweetie. No way. We wait. Remember, I told you I we've figured that mystery out what you did was you picked the Dolby cinema. Dolby cinema is more than just reserved seats. It's a special auditorium. Why you pay that's why you paid more. But the only option I had to have reserve seat was in that theater. Oh, well, yeah. You AMC AMC? It's too expensive. Yeah. Well, it's cheaper reserved. Seats are cheaper at other theatres, you you, unfortunately, you were in the Dolby cinema auditorium, and those are that's a premium theater. Other theater companies still have you can choose your own seats, and you can go to like Tuesdays at icon is really cheap. That's. I'm just trying to. Want me to do dawn? I can only do so much saying is that it's too expensive to go to the movie for people like seriously by other people it's like forty five dollars but tax into that. I don't care if it has great sound that's too expensive. And then you I mean, if you wanna get any snacks, you're talking about seventy five dollars. Oh, yeah. Oh, brother barn. Barb. And Jeff Baker. Thanks for Email. And you guys agree. I'm telling you, this is a problem. And if the theater owners, the whole point is a step up you've got to devote staff to making enforcement of no talking policy are a priority. Thank you. And God bless United States.
