'The King of Talk': Remembering Larry King

"Larry King has died. He was 87 in a career that spanned 60 years. Larry King interviewed just about everybody. Reporter Jeff Lunden has this appreciation. With his trademark suspenders and his deep baritone voice tinged with a Brooklyn accent. Larry King spoke with Presidents George Bush is our honored guest for the full hour. Next on Larry King Live World leaders Moammar Qaddafi. The leader of the nation of Libya, celebrities, the brilliant Barbra Streisand, authors, scientists, comedians, athletes and on and on and on. I'm always engrossed in the guest. Larry King spoke with Jesse Thorn on the turnaround podcast in 2017. I'm always listening to the answer. I'm always learning, So I guess I'm better every day at learning. The Brooklyn born King actually was an indifferent student, but said he always had an innate curiosity when we would go to dodge it. All my friends wanted autographs at the injury. I never asked for an autograph, but I would walk with the players is they're going to their cars asking questions. Why'd you bunt? Why they do this in the third inning. My curiosity is still insatiable. King began his career is a DJ in Miami, and it's where he got his name is well. When a station manager told him his given surname, Zeiger was too ethnic. He chose King from a liquor ad in a newspaper. By the late 19 seventies, King had an overnight talk show on national radio. Then the 1985 Ted Turner hired him for his new network, CNN. Media commentator and author. Bill Carter, who's a CNN contributor, says the timing was perfect. Picking up something like Larry King may love sense because he had Establish himself kind of as a guy who could get big guests. They could have big names and promoted and became sort of the linchpin of their prime time lineup, and King stayed there for 25 years. Some critics complained that he was too chummy with celebrities and lob softball questions. It is guests. His strategy was I'm never gonna make the guests uncomfortable. And that means not only will they come back, but they'll tell their friends. He won't ask you about that ugly divorce of yours. You know, he'll ask you about your favorite movie, so he didn't challenge people, But he did get information. He was pretty good at that, like when he talked with ex President Richard Nixon. Well, I don't want to dwell in the Watergate thing that's been covered so well. But some personal things when you drive by Those collections of buildings. The hotel the two apartment houses the office building, You feel weird, funny. No, I never give it a thought. Never given a thought. Never given a thought. That's one place where you just don't look back. As far as Watergate is. I know you don't look up at the buildings themselves. Not at all. Not a matter of fact, I've never been in the Watergate. Larry King famously didn't do a lot of preparation before his interviews, the less I know. Better Now, That sounds strange to people. Like If you wrote a book. I wouldn't read the book for interview do because I would then know too much about the book and I'm in the same boat as the audience. They haven't read the book, but King knew the national zeitgeist. He covered the first O. J. Simpson trial every night, says Bill Carter. He basically started the cable monomania move. We're going to just cover this story. That's it In a way. It was perfect for life because it was celebrity oriented. It was in the news, but it was not political. Ultimately, CNN canceled King show because it wasn't political competition from Fox and MSNBC took its toll on the ratings. But King was a survivor. He was married eight times and had Quinn couple bypass surgery after a massive heart attack, and King took his talk show to streaming video and kept on working for NPR news. I'm Jeff Lunden in New York.

Fresh update on "dodge" discussed on Under the Hood with Cambridge Auto

"We post a lot of great information to our Facebook page. Enter our website. So we definitely encourage you to check that out. Today. We're here to help you with questions that you might have about your vehicle. We're gonna go back to the phone lines. Let's go to Alex on line six. Alex, Thanks for calling under the hood. How can we help you today? Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. Yes, sir. I wanted to get a my way. Bought my wife, Uh, pre owned of Grand Cherokee LTD. Last year and It's funny. I set up an appointment with her for 30,000 Miles service and on the way to the service. Fuel pumps. In the fuel tank and engine both failed. So they took. They towed it over to the dealership on 35. They fixed that. They didn't do the 30,000. Miles service. I found that out a week later. Do you guys work on? Could you guys do with 30,000 Miles service on that car? Absolutely not Only that when we do the service, you'll get it on lifetime protection. So Okay. All right, that I knew Steve and from my previous car life I was in the car business for many, many years. And I've always liked the way you guys do business now. Next. Just a kind of a site. What is the deal with this beachy? You. Man. Don't get me started. Um yeah, that an ad campaign or no, It's a great product. They've done a lot of research. Um They don't sponsor a radio show like I keep asking him to because they get a free infomercial out of me, and they get it for free. So they don't give us any money for a show. But anyway, um no great products. Um Not only that, but, you know, they've done so much research and development on their stuff. They can actually back up what they do with the fluids they used where they can. It will definitely extend the life of your vehicle. On benefit. If something does break down and a little time frame that you own it, it's covered that they'll cover a large chunk of the repair. That's how Proud. They are of their products. So in their great to deal with their factory grab, So yeah. And, uh, so do you. Could you all do that type of service to could you? That's all That's all the services we do. We only do B g services. Go. Okay. Well put in a good word for you with Rob telling the sponsor show. I'm tired of getting my free infomercial every week. E. I appreciate it. I'll, uh I'll make an appointment. How long would a service like that Take? Um 30 K service. I mean, depending on what all requires. I'm typically maybe half a day and get back to the same day. Them And we have shuttle service, Eh? So if you need a ride somewhere, you want to drop it off being actually may have a loaner cars, too. So I get you something to pick it up later. Okay, I think okay. All right, you'll be seeing us. Sounds very All right. All right, Alex. Thanks for the phone call. He was a B G spy just to get us to talk about it right and say I know you did. You looked at me like Holy cow. You're actually gonna say this. All right, Let's go to Jake on line five, Jake. Thanks for calling under the hood. How can we help you? Hey, thanks for taking my call, guys. Um Have a question? I haven't told Dodge car and there was no horn in and when I got it It's got the horn button and its active because I shot myself with it. But what am I looking forest far as the wire to go out to the under the hood to put a horn in Um, typically, your horn buttons is your ground wire s. Oh, you should have 12 old wire all the time. Go into the horn and then when you hit the horn button that should ground it and completes a circuit and make the horn work. Okay, But where's the wire that goes out to the Out of the engine bay. Um, typically awful. You're steering column. If you look off the steering column coming through the firewall, that's where you're gonna start seeing some wiring for the horn. Okay? Yeah, I looked under there. And there's like a boatload of wires. I just don't know what I want All the dogs you're talking about. 68 Charger 68 Charger. Yeah, you should have. You should have a ground wire coming off the steering column going down to the horn area. I'm not exactly sure where they put the horn on that. Typically, it's up front by the radiator by the grill. And then you should also see. Um uh, you know, 12 old wire laying around there somewhere. There. Yeah, There's no there's no heart. There was no horn in the car whatsoever then, and there's no loose wiring or in open ended wire down there. The wire coming up to the the The corn button. That's there. So should I just take the steering wheel off and see where that connection? See what wire goes back? Yes. You know the faces. Yeah, and also the other thing to be in that old of vehicle we've seen in several times Somebody gets in there starts cleaning up the engine bay. And there's the horn missing and all of a sudden they just clipped the harness going to it and there goes so it is definitely coming out of the firewall side of the driver's side of the fire wall somewhere. And a lot of times that that harness will actually tied into your Ford lining, lighting harness. So you should see of block where your wires go to the fire wall near the steering column area. Um, it might have one clipped in there. That would be what you probably want to reconnect to toe. Get your horn working again. So so just give my multi meter out and to start testing wires with the horn button. Which one goes live when I wanna get Thorne and you could be looking for ground So Yeah, yeah. So soon as you get continuity. Then there's your horn button and then look for another one that's possibly been clipped. That should be 12 volts. All the time because everything on their eyes I don't know what it's called The word like say of the light. There's a positive we're going to the light. And the light itself is the ground. There's no two wires going there Anything. It's all everything's one wire..

The accuser also says that soldiers sexually assaulted over the first time in February 2019 and expressed remorse afterwards by giving her $1000 hush money. This is all very specific in May 2019 the woman claims that s O just spit on her when she told him she wanted to quit and alleges he became insanely jealous when she got social media comments or phone calls. No AAPI Cabinet Secretary!? (With Madalene Mielke)

"Madly milk. Welcome back to the motto. Majority podcast today. Thanks so much. Appreciate having a having having you have me. Yeah absolutely well. We love our previous conversation back in episode. One one to talking about your career your life story from the very beginning you know your political career dating back to al gore's presidential campaign. I believe so. I encourage everybody to listen to episode one until after this episode to get to know your personal story a little bit better but today we are going to focus on. You know some current topics. Niger say before we get into that. You are the president and ceo of the organization. Asian pacific american institute for congressional studies or apec. Could you give us a quick overview of the mission and the goal of this organization. You're leading which. I think actually is a good background and foundation for other stuff. We're gonna talk about later on in this interview. Well absolutely so apex down at twenty. Six years ago by former secretary norm annetta when he was a member of congress. He founded it alongside on the congressional asian pacific american caucus k. pack which comprise of the api members of the us house and senate and so apex mission is to increase a representation at all levels of government From community service to elected office and have them participate at all levels of the electoral process. Gotcha so it's interesting that you mention norman. Mineta who i think is one of the first cabinet secretaries of asia-american designed in our country. I don't know the first night check on that. The first right okay. So yeah. I think he was transportation secretary. He was actually commerce. Secretary and president clinton's administration got it and then went to transportation under the bush administration. Gotcha gotcha he has this. Unique history of serving the first cabinet secretary serving both administrations both parties administrations. And really i think started in important. I guess trend of representation that is about to end with the incoming biden administration. And we're talking about as we are a few days before job and becomes president to be inaugurated. This will be the first time in close more than twenty years that they will not be in asia. American or pacific islander as a cabinet secretary in an administration whether it's democrat or republican for the first time. And you as the leader of a pack which is a nonprofit has spoken out quite a bit about a lack of representation. Could you share with us. What is your view of what is about to happen with this. Lack of representation in the incoming administration sure dodge. Obviously we have an incoming vice president. Who is a pi asian american. She south asian descent black vice president-elect kamla harris and also to cabinet level positions. They don't head up an executive department of which there are fifteen. And that's catherine tie. Vr and near attendant. You know the to cabinet. Level positions obviously have a lot of influence and i will just use the word sides the congressional hispanic caucus and the congressional black caucus as well as k. Pack when they sent a joint letter over a hundred and fifteen members of congress to the by the administration saying close to equal equal. And so that is that those were their words and so And so you know. I cabinet secretary heads of an executive department. And there's only fifteen of them and so when you think about that fifteen how's that diversity including asian americans. It doesn't because there isn't one of the fifteen a. I applaud the administration for their work in trying to expand diversity in having openly. Lgbtq individual leading agency And native american woman of half of the cabinet will be women so all those great things. So if you wanted to find diversity and not include asians in the fifteen than i need to ask you. What is your definition of diversity. Because we seem we've seen this play out and other places where the state of washington. I think they're department of education. Basically categorized asian americans as white so obviously a different definition of diversity.

"The minute with kevin mason. I love cars spend a lot of time online reading about automobiles. They used to love to road and track in the car and driver magazines and read about all the upcoming cars and all the fancy cars and cars. Only wish i could own and recently as you've noticed we're doing away with regular four door cars pixel manufacturers like ford. Won't even be making them anymore. They're going more to just we'll trucks and suv's and some bringing back station wagons. I realized we haven't had a true station wagon because the minivan and the suv kind of taken. That space in the car needs world over the last couple of decades. Of course dodge had their magnum station wagon. I think from like oh five to eight and for some reason i've always wanted a station wagon. My parents had one when i was growing up. I love the size. And i love having the cargo space in the back but that back seat down and you can carry a lot of stuff so maybe a station wagons in my future. Don't know if it's going to happen or not. Hi-Performance Heritage - 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona

"This week's projet carve. The week was the nineteen sixty nine. Dodge dart posted on the moped hunter. Facebook page on tuesday january fifth at nine a. m. let's read the ad nine thousand nine hundred sixty nine dodge dart sixteen thousand five hundred dollars. Nineteen sixty nine. Dodge dart very well built four forty. Tci seven twenty seven dana sixty with four fifty six in spool fiberglass front rear deck lead from bumper. Just put down the direct floor. Liner front end has been completely rebuilt. Everything has been changed including the torsion bars retires or hoosiers that don't have fifty miles on them. Amnesty distributors six. Al box brand new holly xp carb too much to list completely rewired with ron. Francis wiring also have the box with the extra wiring for other applications plus instructions also frontiers new and converted over to kelsey hayes. Four piston calipers shocks in front or new shocks rear. Our new drag shocks car is very fast. Title status is clean. I know what you're thinking. You're thinking here he goes again with another dart drag car. And you're right. I can't help that. I love dodge darts and i can't help that. I love drag car projects. They're just cool. I really do enjoy them. I think they're awesome. And i think that great project cars and this car just happens to be another dart. The reason why. I like this one so much is because it's pretty much ready to go to me. It looks like it just needs a few finishing touches and you're off to the races. I should say that like with any race car project. You'd go through this thing from top to bottom. But just based on what i see. I think it's a great candidate for a drag car project especially at under twenty grand. I mean this thing sitting sixteen five. I think there might be a little bit of room but you know just looking at the car and comparing it to other things that i've seen out there for maybe half the price the seems like a good bye. I will say this though. It may be kind of a handful on the street. And that's only because of the spool and the rear end ratio for those of you. That don't know a spool is a fully locked rear diff unlike locking diff the school locked at all times. So when you're turning you're gonna feel the rear end grabbing and gripping the road because the wheels will be unnaturally turning at the same rate of speed so it's kind of impractical parking taking turns and stuff. It might feel a little bit weird almost like if you're a four wheel drive on the street you know and you crank the wheel all the way and you try to turn. You're gonna feel that rear end like skipping almost The other issue that i saw was the four fifty six years. I think it would be really fun. Obviously light to light on the street. But i'd imagine if you're on the freeway a lot of could be an issue but that said you know a lot of people run these gears all the time even on the street so i guess it just depends on the type of driving. You'll be doing and if you're willing to put up with it it might be okay if you only take the car out occasionally on the streets but at sixteen thousand five hundred you have a great headstart to a fun strip car. That can possibly be driven on the street. It's a big lakhdar with some bigs and littles also has what looks to be centerline. Auto drags on it. So that's that's a plus in my book. I love those wheels. So big and little auto drags cool in my book. It's gotta side exit exhaust aluminum radiator. It's got a nice racing shift in it. Some cheap racing seats grant steering wheel. You know this things got some potential you know does it have its flaws sher- but we can work around those and we can take this platform as you get it and then make it your own. You know there's still room to improve and you know that's sure to tickle anymore. Part theseus fancy especially mind the thing even has really bars too so if you did drive it on the street the only addition to make it even more intimidating would probably be a parachute but discards cool has a ton of potential and it sure to turn heads on both the track and the street got nice orange paint a black bumble bee stripe. It's got a giant hood scoop on the front like the old school. I don't know what you call it like a pro street hood scoop. I guess I think that's the word i'm looking for. I think that's the description i can give. But it's not the typical hood that i would like to see on a mo- par but i guess it works. I like hemi hood scoops or six. Pack hood scoops. I think those are cool But it's got four. It's got the fiber last trunk so it's got four pins on that to hold it down Like i said it's got the whealy bars so cut that bad ass aesthetic to

Pro-Trump mob storms the US Capitol, touting 'Stop the Steal'

"Insurrection resulting in scenes unlike any in living memory after days of prodding by president donald trump rioters descended on the capitol building in washington. Yesterday congress had gathered for a joint session to certify. President elect joe biden's victory under the provisions of s con res-. One cinema will now proceed as a body. Several republican lawmakers such as ted cruz began lodging. They're expected objections. The tallies recent polling shows that thirty nine percent of americans believe the election. That just occurred quote was rigged the midway through proceedings representatives were forced to flee from the chamber ushered into bunkers through underground passageways. Seeding the floor to a violent group of trump's supporters for hours tense standoff ensued as rioters posed for pictures in house speaker. Nancy pelosi's office and made off with capital podiums. And for those hours. Mr trump stayed silent. i call on president trump. Go on national television now to fulfill his oath and defend the constitution and demand and then to this siege. The eventually issued a video statement telling the rioters to leave but a condemnation. It was not. We have to have peace so go home. we love you. You're very special. You've seen what happens. You see the way others are treated. That are so bad and so evil. I know how you feel but go home and go home. It peace after the building had been cleared. Lawmakers returned and carried on with the vote confirming mr biden early this morning with little further drama and mr trump at last committed to a peaceful transfer of power via staffers. Tweet even as he continued to insist. The election was unfair. Like so much that has happened in the trump presidency. It's all shocking. But not entirely surprising leaving those on capitol hill to survey the damage to a story building and to american democracy. Now the site of an angry mob. Rampaging through america's legislature wandering around the senate floor breaking into legislator's offices. That's not the sort of thing that's happened before john. Fashion is the economist. us digital editor. Most americans think of that sort of thing if they think of it at all as the kind of thing that happens in other countries and i think that the the political and psychological fallout from that will last a very long time it really was watershed moment for american politics. Not in a good way and walk through exactly what happened here. So what happened was the donald trump spoke at a rally at around noon on the sixth and he told his supporters that he would never concede and he told them to walk to the capitol and show strength and be strong now. What they showed of course was a deeply trumpian. Facsimile of strengthens the temper tantrum. And while the joint session of congress to certify joe biden's victory was underway. They overwhelmed capital police and got into the building. The session was adjourned shortly after two pm. I think the secret service whisked away. Mike pence who is presiding because the vice president is also president of the senate capital office. Buildings were evacuated members shelter in place for rioters to all appearances ran rampant through the capital. And eventually the riott sort of petered out. They didn't really seem to have a plan or goal beyond that show of petulance that they convinced themselves with strength and shortly after eight pm the to has of congress gaveled back in and After some lengthy speeches they did their constitutional duty and certify. Joe biden's win and there will be big questions about how. The rioters managed the breach in the first place. I mean how do they organize beforehand. And were they arrested afterward while the rioters have been far right trump supporters and they organize themselves at least partly using social media for days leading up to yesterday. They discussed on social media how to sneak guns in. Dc which has strict gun control laws outta dodge and spread thin. The police presence one of them fantasize about setting up the gallows outside congress and hanging elected officials. That seems to be how they organize themselves. Were there any arrests. The capitol police let a lot of people leave with just a warning Now more arrests may follow the rioters. A lot of them for reasons that baffoni took pictures of themselves and can easily be identified but even so even if more residue follow to my mind the difference between the very thin police presence and the way they treated armed insurrectionists who broke into the capitol building and terrorized. Legislators and the way police treated and prepared for black lives matter protesters this summer in full riot gear and nasa physical presence. That difference is really striking and what about republicans in congress. What do you think the repercussions will be for them. The ones who supported mr trump's efforts to to to question to overturn the vote. The question of repercussions is really interesting. You know one reason. Republicans lined up behind the president. Trump's claims of manipulation election thefts which i strongly suspect they knew were false is because they believe the price for not doing so was greater than the price for doing so they worried that trump would support a primary challenge to them and twenty twenty two or twenty twenty four. That was their concern now. Kelly leffler is one of the two senators just lost in georgia. Initially said she would object but after the riots. Change your position. I don't think she would've done that if he genuinely believed the election was stolen. I suspect the same is true of a lot of the others who back president trump's challenges. I suspect they didn't really think that the election was stolen. They thought it was a smart political. Move not to get crosswise with president trump. now anyone who cares about the health of american democracy democrat republican libertarian. Anyone who likes living democracy. Hope that the senators and congressmen who tried to overturn election will pay a heavy price. But whether they actually will. I don't know that i'd bet on it. Most of them from safe seats. What about the republican party. More generally will they abandon trumpism. This does all of this demonstrate. The very real costs of trumpism. The more interesting question is how the republican party reaction. Toto because as popular is trump is with base voters. He's deeply unpopular with the broader electorate. Remember the he entered office with republicans in control of the white house and both chambers of congress and he will leave with democrats in the same position. The last time that happened the last time they had that trifecta party switch was eighteen. Ninety two and the results this year showed the republicans really can win with women and with non white voters with the right candidates. And so it's in. The party's interest to broaden its view and leave. trump isn't behind. And you know even people. Who seem like staunch allies like josh hawley and ted cruz. They want trump gone to right. They don't want him to be the twenty two thousand four nominee. They want to be the twenty twenty four nominee. But there's a first mover problem. Nobody wants to stick his neck out and get chopped off but if nobody moves. All trump retains as power which nobody also really wants and i would guess that they're hoping some combination of legal and financial trouble post-presidency sort of does him in politically so they won't have to and you know they may be right. They may get lucky.

4% say they dodge a major cleaning task by moving, study

"Get a new house but then you ultimately end up having to clean it anyway. I would think because you got to get the stuff out of there to move. But as they reminded me. You remember when you and i were Baby dj's trying to make it in this Crazy biz we call radio and we were roommates living that Apartment in the sketchy part of town and In i rarely did laundry. And i'll just have piled up shoveled in my closet right. There were times when i When i was going somewhere and i needed a good shirt wear some say. I say i have me a date would say it loud now i would just go over to To the mall across the street and buy a shirt instead of you know planning ahead of time and actually doing some launch. There were times not all the time. There were a few times that i would have to go into his bedroom with empty. Davis said come home and get these kinds of doors. Close if you would and he would. I would hold the door. He would push the clothes back. Anyone say okay one two three and then he would put his hand. I would slam the door shut. The close would fall back. positive closed. Room looks clean nice. But it wasn't that. I didn't have clothes. I had a lot of close enough close. They wouldn't be out of the closet but we didn't have our own private washer and dryer in the apartment. He had to go down the walkway. They're inside the apartment complex to a public Washer and dryer. And you had to sit there with them the entire time because somebody would steal them. If you didn't ace has gene stolen one night. He was doing laundry and all of his jeans got stolen. Yeah so i would. Just wait until i had some time to drive back to my parents house and do my lawn. My mom didn't do. I wasn't that i wasn't taking it back and going here. Mama brought him a laundry. My mom hadn't done my laundry since i was thirteen. Because she was messing up my good stuff. They took a velour shirt. It was kicking at the time. He was hitting in wrung it out. I said you can't put that in the drier. okay and then just wrung it out like a rag. All out i remember. If it's forty dollars. Admit i have bought them a lure shirt my own money my best velour shirt address. The band out around the bottom of into was just hanging. Mom's not doing my my laundry anymore. Tang nano but maybe she did that just because she didn't want to do it anyway. I would go. i would go. I say all the way homes an hour but most of the time. I was working on the weekends. You know we're trying to we're trying to get a foothold in this crazy. Be as we call radio. So i've been working every day so i didn't have time to go home do laundry and i remember when jodi and i i got to that point where we were. All exclusive in in really Digging each other and she said okay. I'm coming over to your apartment with laundry baskets and we're gonna load up all of that laundry and bring it over here to my parents house and you can do it over here. So that's when. I finally a according to this with these people did ace and i would have just gone and gotten another apartment. Yeah that's crazy And it wasn't that. I didn't know how to do it. I just didn't wanna sit there. I didn't have the time to sit there in the laundry room of the apartment complex with those people those apartment people i when i say it was a good place. It was not a good place case in point. I had three pair of jeans to them. Were stolen the only ones that weren't the one dollars wearing and who's stealing my jeans. I was six four two hundred pounds. Who's who nobody's wearing my jeans there. Yeah and not to mention the The shootout between police and the guy selling crack out of the apartment next door. That saturday night. Yes we have plenty of room. Yeah it was an old lady tweet us. So you see. Regan's we came from nethon. Yeah our careers. Didn't start a big time. Syndicated radio show like yours did right. We had to build it. Yeah a lot of elbow. Grease and bullet dodging yep. That's what we did and velour in balu yet or bluer. Yes i want that shirt. Now i bet if you brought out the velours or be the drip drip drowned and had a hearing Gold chain nugget hanging from it. Oh i'll get mama messing

Houston's James Harden reminds other NBA teams why they should trade for him with sparkling 44-point debut

"Let's talk about James Harden because he played his first game and by the way, think about the circumstances here because James Harden that they make the trade right. Russell Westbrook goes out. John Wall comes in Russell Westbrook. You know he was a bit of a problem. Hardened wanted somebody else in here. He wanted wall. They get wall. Everything's fine, You know, like, maybe we hardened gets traded at some point, but that's gonna fix things and obviously doesn't it doesn't do that at all. Hardened doesn't show up for the start of the season on time. He's not exactly interested. So you have a brand new head coach of Brand new GM and your superstar is M I A Great. Where is he? Paul? Silas? I don't know. I've no it is Stephen Silas. That's it. Yes, it is. Dad's Paul. Right? So, Yeah. So, Stephen Silence. I'll get there sees forgettable. That's why James Harden doesn't like him. No, I don't know anything about Steven stylist on that year T bash the guy, but I'm gonna make that mistake more than once now. Here's the thing for Harden did not show up and be partying and then get punished for that. And then, a week later, he's out partying again. If he dodges, he dodges the fine because the game gets postponed that the Rockets were supposed to open their season against the thunder. That game did not happen because the Rockets didn't have eight players to play the game. Now one of those guys that wasn't available Was hard and so if hard and was there, I think they would have been able to play the game. I'm not 100% on that. But I'll double check that, but he made his debut finally for the Rockets. Tonight now. Great game. By the way. I mean, my goodness hell of a game. They played the Blazers and the Blazers air Great, like when I look at the NBA, and I think about teams that just I would love to watch on any given night. If you tell me that team is playing somebody decent. I'm gonna watch that game Blazers. Absolutely. Top five favorite team like I I just loved Damian Lillard. I love the attitude over there. I just think there are fun Team. So Blazers Houston Rockets game goes into overtime. CJ McCollum playing lights out, hitting three pointers James Harden in his debut, playing lights out basketball, You look great. And I'll give you the stat line because for hard and it's one of those things where you're gonna be a little worried about what he looks like. There's been questions about what kind of shape is in and so for him to not get that work in its already shortened off season. You just kind of wonder. Okay? How does James Harden look? Well, he answered every question he possibly could. In 43 minutes. James Harden 44 points 17 assists. I mean, wow. Wow. Like, what else can you say? Just And and that's the fascinating thing about all of this. This is where it gets really curious because You see, James Harden put up 44 17. And everyone immediately forgets about everything that happened and That's why he gets away with it right. Like everybody is going to be going nuts now. Anybody that is in the conversation to get James Harden? They want him right? Like I'll be curious. If you're a fan of the teams there six teams right now that have been connected the heart and that he said that he's willing to go there off the top of my head. I know Milwaukee. Portland, Philly, Brooklyn, Boston. I know missing one more, but To be a fan of one of those six teams that hardens interested in For all the debating and questioning of what kind of teammate is he? What kind of effort is he going to put in? What does he look like? In two years, you know, Because obviously you're trading for these two years. But maybe you want to keep him around. What does he look like? You know, can you buy into him with all of his habits that we've talked about so much over the last couple of weeks? Well, you put up 44 17 his first game back. Who cares, right? That's what a lot of people are going to say. And if you're a team that's desperate to win right now, That's what a lot of them are going to say. That's what a lot of front offices are going to say. That's the argument is he is such a supremely talented player that as much as we've squabbled Over who he is and what he's about, and what his trade value is. He is this ridiculously good at scoring the basketball and This is what the league is for. They play basketball, So you put the character stuff aside. If he's good enough of doing the job that's the life of a superstar.

"So this happened in arizona and was prosecuted by juan. Martinez she did receive the death penalty. There's a great episode of snapped about her. It's a really interesting case. And the defense. She put up at her. Trial was strange to say. The least i think you and your listeners would really enjoy this case especially since it involves one martinez and yes. She took the stand and was cross examined about her crazy story. I love your podcast. Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly research every episode so juan martinez he was the casey anthony prosecutor right. We saw him at crime cod. We did and also read his book. He's an interesting guy yes his none. She was convicted of murdering her terminally. Ill husband in two thousand. Her claim was that she was an abused spouse and she killed her husband and defense. This guy was on chemo. He had actually initially tried holistic therapy and his cancer for some reason or other didn't get any better run. Holistic therapy shocking. So he turned to chemo but he was pretty wasted and weakened. There's absolutely no way. He could be an abusive spouse. Says she just wasn't very patient not in a hurry. I guess so must have been money or something at the heart of it or just anger will watch the snap episode summer. His snapped is usually fun. Yes yes thank you. So much and next is a case suggestion from meghan. Your megan says. I don't drink. However i love this podcast. Well that's okay. you don't have to drink to love the pipe. We're not trying to push people to drink or you could be an alcoholic and love the podcast. Anybody she says. I know it's been done lots of times. But i'd be interested to hear your perspective in views on the west memphis. I imagine you get loads of requests. But i just wanted to mention this at the very least. You're sending some positive feedback. Megan thank you. Meghan so yeah. Of course we're familiar with that case just about everybody is and it's one of those cases. I would like to cover at some point. But i always feel like if has that much coverage what are we really going to be able to add to it other than our opinions which if to take with a grain of salt or to or to grains sit too. Yeah yeah no that's correct. We have it on a little whiteboard over there. Is that on our list. It's been there for about two years. We have a long list though it fairness or suppose at some point we are going to do it because it was a fascinating case. Yes i think. It's the kind of case i'd like to do after having a week off so he can devote more time to it but then it really wouldn't be a week off. Would it would just be an extra week of resurgent extra week of research. Yeah which is okay but good recommendation. Megan i'm sure it's been recommended before. There have been probably a handful of cases. We've talked about that..

"I started the your next dive segment here on scuba Shack Radio a year ago as a way to talk about some of the great places to dive today is the 10th installment of your next dive off and we're going to complete our adventures in the Cayman Islands with a visit to Cayman BRAC where we'll stay at the Cayman BRAC Beach Resort and dive with Reef divers. As a recap we talked about the Little Cayman Beach Resort in episode 19, and then we went to Sunset house on Grand Cayman in episode 32. So let's explore the third island. My experience with the Cayman BRAC Beach Resort is a little dated. We had a shop trip their way back in October of 2006. So I'm guessing things maybe a little different job after fourteen years, but I'm also guessing a lot is probably the same. The Cayman BRAC Beach Resort is part of the clearly came and dive resorts that include Little Cayman Beach Resort and Cobalt Coast Resort on Grand Cayman off. This Collective of resorts is owned and operated by the Tibbetts family a prominent family in the Caymans since the Seventeen hundreds. First off Cayman BRAC is a little easier to get to than Little Cayman the Charles Kuykendahl International Airport located on the western end of the island package is very close to the beach resort and it has a Runway that's big enough to land 737 Jets. There are many more options to get to the Brock than the small twin otters flying the linkage came in plus the runway has lights so you don't have to worry that much about getting getting dark and that was an adventure we faced last year when going a little Cayman As I mentioned the airport is very close to the resort and you get picked up by The Resort staff for a short ride over. Now the resort has had some major Renovations since we were there several years ago. It sustained some significant damage from a hurricane. And from what I've read. It had to be almost completely built and it was finally finished in 2015. Today they offer 40 rooms. They're building is a two-story structure with all Beach and pool views with all the amenities you expect as for your meals. You have several options for different meal plans. I'm always up for the all-inclusive meals. I like not having to think about going out and finding a place to eat. That's not everybody's cup of tea. But if you do get the are inclusive me off and you won't be disappointed. Let's talk about the diving first. You'll be diving with Reef divers. It's the same operators as on Little Cayman. They tout themselves relay diving. They handle all the heavy lifting. Reef divers operates for Newton dive boats of 42 to 46 feet my favorite dive boat. They'd have big sister little sister ocean sister and coral sister. There are about in seventy named dive sites around the island and many of them are clustered around the Western end making for some short boat rides. Some folks feel like the diving isn't as good on the Brock or Grand Cayman as it is on Little Cayman for me. All three are fantastic and I would certainly not pass up an opportunity to dive Kathy Brock. Because it has been a while since I was there I went back to my log book to see where we drove. We did eighteen Dives on that trip. Now one of the things they do is a morning run off over the Little Cayman where you get to do two Dives on Bloody Bay wall. So you do get a little taste of the Little Cayman. I logged bottom temperatures for all the Dives at 86° Fahrenheit and that was in October and we routinely had dies between fifty to sixty minutes. We were able to talk to Dives on the MV Captain Keith Tibbetts the signature wreck our night dive was at a site called Elkhorn forest. And then we went back the next morning to dive the site during the day. That was pretty cool to see the difference. There isn't any shore diving from the Brock Beach Resort. But if you get the package like we did a 2018 Dodge is a pretty good week. Reading through the log book brought back some great memories and makes me want to go back. Let's hope the Caymans open up again early next year. So that completes our thoughts are of the Cayman Islands here on scuba Shack radios your next

But if stacy's van ends up being mind, , then I'll just settle for the round portholes unless I can find. . Those awesome. . Pentastar. . Wants this van. . Also has a grant wood grain steering wheel, , which adds to that nostalgic feeling along with that pop up Sunroof, , and it looks like at one point back was done up like seventies custom but right now it's pretty bare, , which is great. . Because most of the time when you find these vans, , the cargo area usually needs to be redone. These . old buggy vans had all shag carpet and cabinets put in Old Saints and. Things . like that. . So chances are if you find one of these, , it'll probably need new carpet and things like that. . This one actually has a plywood floor and looking around it actually looks like the van was originally read. . The good news is that it will be easy to strip the cargo area and get creative to create your own space. . I. . Like the idea of a modern version of a classic book Van Something. . Creative enough that you can go to shows and show it off. . But you can also go camping, , and if you're the nomad life, , you can hit the road and live that van life but it would also be cool to get this thing capable of hauling a race car that way you have a place to store your tools, , parts, , extra tires, , and have a place to stay at the track instead of. . A ten I really liked that idea for me I like all those possibilities but the possibility of having a mobile podcast studio when I go to events would be really cool and if I bring merch with me, , it would make a great display for the Merch to this thing has a three eighteen. . It's running and driving and hey, , it stops too. . So that's always nice <hes> I like projects that you can. . Drive home and this thing is you know that type of a project, , it even has some pin striping on the hood, , which is cool because it's kind of like a throwback. . It does need some new wheels and tires and some fifteen by ten on fats in the back and some fifteen by eight in the front would give this thing that groovy raked stance that was so popular with these vans back. . In the day I, , think that this van is also in desperate need of a front lip spoiler and the fender flares, , which you can surprisingly still find if you look hard enough online but all in all, , I'd say if you were interested in getting a Boogie van for a project for less than four grant, , I think this one is a great candidate I actually did reach out to the seller just to. . Feel the water and see what the temperature was like and it sounds like he's pretty firm with not much wiggle room. . But he said that thirty five, , hundred to the right person would take it home. . WanNa know what I offered him. . But that's a whole nother story since these vans are hard to find think he's in the ballpark the side doors do have a little damage and there's definitely some work probably needs to be done but overall, it , appears to be pretty solid. . So if you're looking to get back into fanning and relive your youth or even if you're a rookie banner, , this would make a fun project keep on Truckin my friends that was Mo- part project of the week Nomo par left behind. . Since we're on the topic of vans. . This week's high-performance part belongs to a custom Shorty Dodge van and the two thousand, , fifteen movie American ultra and because I suck at explaining movies, , I finally come to the realization that from now on I think I'm just GonNa read the Synopsis Straight from Rotten Tomatoes. . So here is the synopsis for American Ultra. . Tomatoes. . American ultra is a fast paced action comedy about Mike Played by Jesse Eisenberg, , a seemingly hapless and unmotivated donor who's small town life with his live in girlfriend phoebe played by Kristen Stewart is suddenly turned upside down unbeknownst to him. . Mike is actually a highly trained lethal sleeper agent in the blink of an eye as a secret past comes back to haunt him. . Mike is Thrust into the middle of deadly government operation and is forced to summon his. . Interaction hero in order to survive. . Now, , where does this sweet Boogie van come in well about seventeen minutes and thirty seconds into the movie Eisenberg's character Mike Meets up with his drug dealer rose played by John Leguizamo to buy illegal fireworks. . The show he wants to put on for when he proposes to phoebe Rachel Rolls Up to the meeting spot in one thousand, , nine, , hundred, , ninety, , four to nineteen, , seventy, six, , , dodge short van with a wild paint scheme which. . "You know I'm not to drag race suspension. You wanted like a the best of both worlds on the road race suspension. It had to be very stiff and still you're still going to get that spring rates and things like that, but with with the adjustable suspension these days and magnified and and and. Before, I put the coil overs on it hours I think actually a little bit smoother. It's kind of a rough writing carts small too short wheelbase. It's a little bumpy. I love it I'm fine with it like I I I feel like I'm more connected by. "No, is it? That's that's what this website is. Check. Check Google for the news for the approximate result in multiple multiply the speed by one point six. Okay all right. Yeah, yeah, that's right, yeah! Because we say zero to sixty two and they say it's one hundred so basically. They're trying to hit that three hundred kilometer mark. That's why they're rounding to one eighty six right because it was like. Why did he is a very obscure number right overdue that? Reason for yeah, so they wanna hit three hundred kilometers. which which makes sense interesting benchmark, but it's. It's funny how we also have this this race. To three hundred miles an hour. We have bugatti trying to get there. We have even Hennessy with their with their supercar trying to get there. We have Kona Zag trying to get there. Yeah, they're all trying to get to three hundred miles per hour. You know and I don't know. Where are we to fifty? Two to sixty. A it's. It's funny, because even if they could do it with the Horse Power and the aero-dynamics. How do you sell that car to somebody? Right like this is like somebody like Bugatti comes in and says oh well, you can only do it with the special key and a half do from start, and it has to be pointed in a straight line and. If you to know there's people that'll buy you know. There are yeah, but if you twist the steering wheel, a little bit to the left or right, it shuts down that the three hundred mile an hour, a goal or something like it just. Because all of that because you have to build in. Tens of thousands of dollars of safety equipment just A. Just an attempt to do a proof, you still can't you still can't. All you can do is try to make the government satisfied with with you're doing you know. Some of it's overkill some of it's not like who knows again like it's like building. Anything your garage it. Your building is like. You know you want to build this thing and you want to build a loft and and they say great building the loft as easy, and then you say, but I wanNA put a gym up there with thousands of pounds of weight, and they'll yeah, we we need. We need to rethink battle. Right like unfortunately your yeah, your. We've tackled this issue as well over here, but. Yes anyway speaking of that, we're going to get into an update on the garage. We saw some of the images you posted up on on instagram on your site and your patient Goldberg's garage and working with your team over at Metro on. WHO's. Basically designing and building, going to build this. The new Goldberg's garage. And Dodd the rendering. The rendering sir good, it's a great teaser. Thanks for posts in that looks fantastic and I know you said I'm learning. The plan was got the property there. You want to keep everything in house and. There's GonNa be. Also. There's a business to run. Basically out of this garage. There's filming. There's podcasting. They're working out. Which is part of your? Big. Part of your career like there's this isn't. As much fun as it is, it's not completely leisure. It's all work. All work, but it's all relative. Living it's it's my passion, my my enjoyment. my release Oh. Guess what also happens to be how I make a living so as as over the top is it? Is it all every square inch of, but it's going to provide a service whether it's you know storing all the things. That I've been able to acquire throughout the years that our business or the or the latest the way in the plans. Which is the sound studio so yeah? It's all toll purpose bill. I'm sure I don't know if it was your idea or your accountant. That said Hey. We're building the garage and this is what it's going to cost and I do a podcast every week. The accounts like you should put podcast. there. Turns it a little bit more to better right off. To to appease my accountant? Yes, it was my. I prep. Prior phone calls yeah. Crappy for but. It's a it's A. It's a great deal. It's exciting, but. It's also a task so. Just check the progress, and where where are you? Now? We saw we saw some of the initial rhetoric rings. I. Don't know if they're finally yet, but they. They look good. When do you? When do you start breaking ground or doing plumbing foundation or you know when you start doing that? When we need to speak with Bernie municipal, so we can get all the final permits. Check off, so one swans that happens, we will be breaking ground. Yeah, let that goes I'm curious to know if the permit process out there. Hand. Deliver all documents, believe me with the big bag of big box of cookies, and maybe an apple pie or something like that. Yeah, whatever I can. Imagine the process. There is much easier than the process here. All right so. One other piece we've. We weren't able to get into all the dodge news last week, because the the debut on dodge garage of. Of, their announcement was. was. was just starting as we were recording. This and we don't want to step on anybody's feet. We didn't want. You know. We wanted to abide by the rules with the embargo and all that stuff, so this is this is what we know. This is the news that you guys have seen. Three upgrades to to the vehicles, the dodge challenger, the charger and the Durango and typical dodge fashion. That some you guys like some you guys don't like, but. Dodges AMMO for a lot of things is hey. Take something that seems to be working pretty well and just throw more horsepower at it. To work, I know some of these vehicles, challenger, charger, or feeling a little long in the tooth, so they just keep throwing horsepower out of it and do more fast and furious movies, and they continue to sell, and it's paying off. In dividends for sure so this is what we've got the the Dodge Challenger. Twenty, twenty dodge, Challenger S Artiste superstock. I think this is a cool vehicle, but also this is good for you. Dodge Demon owners dodge, said we're. The demon was going to be a limited run. We're not gonNA. Screw you on this deal. And Demon owners will get the demon, and then that will be it now. Dodge still wants to do something drag race oriented with big power right they did they drag pack the thirteen twenties that we drove. Which which had some demon parts basically on it and the suspension. World, but you're not going to get that. Demon Hood patiently. You'RE NOT GONNA. Get that Vin number..

"Yeah story number. Three Dragon UNDERDO number three. I'm liking this team. I have talked about this guy on a few different episodes. Maybe everybody just one. I don't know the back stories that I met this guy on the road and so he doesn't live in New York. You know when we do those nineteen was all about us like meeting fucking guys in the road anyway. So I'm at this kind of road super hot. I was into him. We were communicating daily texting. And things like that and I think I can't remember what episode I mentioned this on the basically I felt like the communication started taper off and then I said something about it and then he then it felt like we had a misunderstanding. He was like I kind of felt like you weren't into it anymore. Or whatever and then we had this clear the air moment and then we start talking again and then he basically kind of started to get weird again and I just ended up like I was like. Oh this I will you know. This is a pattern with you I I. I think he's got some issues like I just don't want to deal with. I know he does. I just started to feel like this guy is a lot going on and I'm not really here for it. I mean he was like all in every minute nap. Chad's face time I don't uses snapchat but whatever yeah like sex okay just left you on red stop talking. Yeah and then then I kinda put him on blast and he had a really tough week. I'm like okay too tough but you're like on instagram stories. All Week I get it. I mean everybody has their own shit going on but I just. I realize that was a pattern. I wasn't gonNA give you know it was kind of like fool me once. I give him the benefit out the first time but in this whole mix was at the point where we were talking almost daily. This was last spring. We're Miami so this was around the role that all these things avenue me for April one a month so the first story that we tell was April tills eighteen. This is April two thousand eighteen. He invited me to a wedding with him in another country on international like Caribbean wedding a Romantic beach vacation for a wet. Actually he actually. Did it have a plan to the wedding? Which is something. I wouldn't recommend if you have a destination wherever you live your truth. But he was going to be there for like a while and he was like you can come. Maybe the way was even like a weekday or it was like on Thursday or Friday. Come after I'm GONNA stay for like another week and hang out and stay with me and my like villa. Whatever and I was considering. We're on Kayak you were looking. I look I know I. I'm just so grateful that we I wasn't able to go because of our show are shows at the Bell House. Where like may I or something and you wouldn't have gotten back to back to. The show had to go through customs. There was no way Raina was like do it. Girl Lip do go do this. The plane as saying it wasn't the money wasn't so much the money but the money was bad. There's no direct flights would have been fifteen hundred bucks. This is a lot and just in case I would get delayed. It would fuck up our hours. Yeah so I just couldn't swing it like I tried going back and forth. I really did try. I was kind of picturing going on. This like sexy. Bakke with this guy. Whatever and Yeah I didn't go and then once maybe a week or two later. That's when I just. He got weird and I just kind of called it quits with him and then never looked back and then we start raining. I started deep dive. I noticed because I live for this show. I love to be like a sleuth. I noticed him and this girl kind of communicate on instagram. Then I was like I bet. He's dating that girl. I could just tell you tell everybody knows it was like. I think he's dating this girl. We pull up her instagram. We're looking at them. And then we start to realize that she went on the trip. Okay I realize it di- you okay. I just want to like myself credit. For like what an amazing like snoop I am because we saw that he geo tagged us like random beach in the middle of nowhere out and like Cova. The hotel and I saw that she posted a photo and Geo tagged the same random little beach there together and then I started deep dive 'cause rain and rain and just got very invested in this girl because she's kind of like a life coach type personal check on really flowery crazy. Woo Woo captions which is fine again. Libya truth not our brand and so we just couldn't we just like looking at him and I was like okay. Something happened because when she came back from a trip it was the post were like a little somber and they had never posted anything together ever to we will two days later. She started posting stuff. About what forgiving yourself and leaning into good experiences and then forgiving yourself when they don't go well like the play by play. She went on that trip. She went on Your Trans Am I. But the thing the thing that like rain okay. Sabrina caught it. She noticed they had basically posted the same photo of themselves on the balcony. But not together then I dug deeper and this is one of my favorite things today. He had done an instagram story that he panned like the villa and then when it got to the she was nowhere in it obviously but when it came around to the lounge chair there was a woman's beach cover up on it ended it they. He ended the INSTAGRAM story. Right is the guy to the cover women. I could tell that was a ladies cover on I. I held that was my thumb down. Screen shot at zoomed it. I was like that's a girl. Cover up like the way that they were trying to like. I wonder how he pitched that to her that she couldn't post about it. You know what I'm saying Because like you GNAWS looking yeah like. I'm pretty positive just by the vibes that we were getting via instagram. That she would have gladly posted them together. He probably out clearly told her. Like you are the second choice for this or maybe I was the second choice. Maybe she was like the fourth Choi just to be clear. There was no time in between you and this girl. I know you're thinking about going on this trip like a week before this. In April April was early. April was Miami and mid April was Philly. That was when I realized this happened and then end of April. Was this wedding. I mean this was all in late days. I mean this. I'm just saying like he didn't have time to meet another girl. Invite another girl and she. He just like cast a wide net. He's like whichever one of you is dumb enough to fall for this and then broke up with her. The J. after it happened quickly. She was posting that like heartbreak. Post I mean really post trip Jay the triple and then then we just got so obsessed and then he wasn't. He didn't like any of her photos from the trip. He liked every one of her photos. Everyone of fitness photos. He didn't like one trip photo. Sucks so much you know. He was telling her Alec Inspirational and brave. She was for over seven pages and then rain and I just started to be on her team and we were like poor girl. She's trying to start a business. She probably paid for this plane. Like I know how much was and she doesn't have this kind of money. She she thought this was going to be love and she thought she was going to be spontaneous and then get outside of her comfort zone and she got were like so on her and her team Hydra present. I checked I still check up on her half. That guy is the worst. Yeah that guy just like. I don't even like you know we talk about this with some people. He is like self-loathing type of person. You know like he's got enough going on that I'm not. He's not a good place. Now I the thing I like about you that I admire about you and I think that I am sort of like this but not nearly as much. You identify a behavior and immediate. You're like I'm not doing us. Like I believe senator tainted little while. Yeah I like my mom's very much like you are to my mom's like why would you talk to this person again? I'm just like I'm soft and like I like that. You just like you see what's going to happen and you walk away from it you don't entertain it anymore and I don't think you're mad about it or heartbroken. I think you're just like I mean it's like the sang where it has like when somebody shows you who. They are believed that they did it. And you weren't going to get mad at him or yell at him or talking about. What would the point of that band right well? This also came with age and we got this goes back to you. WanNa listen to last week's bonus episode like this is just you live and learn like this. I wasn't like this at twenty seven or whatever you know I I just see the writing on the wall. 'cause I've been through it all so yeah the first time. A guy gives you those excuses. Hopefully ladies. If you listen to podcasts. You know like you know the first time that happens to you your twenty four whatever and you're like Oh my God like we said like so brave. He's opening up to me. I can work with this and like you get to a certain age and you're like Oh this is bullshit and I don't want a part of this like I think it's you it's like true live and learn except for you. I guess the story God. No this is like not as funny as the other shows. I was like sure even tell us. It's fine I mean I think I learned some good lessons from and I do take because I liked cared about this person so much. It did stick with me harder than other wasn't such like a flip in. I don't care thing well. Yeah and that's the thing like we were talking about this before. I'm not trying to help you. But it's it's the depth with which you know somebody in a lot of this to like the Guy. Both the by stories have been with guys that we had not been intimate you know. We hadn't spent a lot of face time together. And so it's way easier to be done with you know like especially you sleep with somebody. It's way harder to cut somebody off for bad behavior like this next story. Us did not sleep together but you spent a whole lot more time together. You Knew Him. A whole more personal level like it really is the depth of the relationship. How easier able to be like okay by we. I think the longer you're with somebody the more you're like. Wow understand them on his deeper level and it's like well they understand me on a deeper level. What's wrong with me? They know me on this deep level and still don't want to be with a and I think that that's hurtful and upsetting harder to walk away from the thing. That's so interesting to me. Is like with these all these relationships bad relationships like why don't we accept so little for men? We accept things that like. We wouldn't accept from our parents and our friends and our loved ones like out here. I know you don't like why are we out of your accepting so late. All let this guy just like really dude. Absolutely so yeah. This lasted like a year and a half met him look towards the beginning of the podcast and I met him and I was like. Oh this is like my person. It is so embarrassing. I'm not going to get into how I met him. Because it'll sort of giveaway who he is but I'm going to fund the phone call with him. That was the first interaction we ever had and I was like on the phone I was like..

"Talked about participating in the crime. Private after twenty eight hours of questioning thing. They had a confession and they didn't hesitate in using it. The following week top was charged with rape use of deadly weapon in the Commission of a felony and first degree murder taps. Trial began in May of one thousand nine hundred eighty eight. Nearly two years after Angie's murder his attorney tried to suppress the confession which was filmed along with all of his interviews by the argument that it had been coerced. The the judge determined that most of his statements could be used against him and those tapes became the focal point of much of the trial. The first time police interview tap they saw hobbs as the suspect. According to former reporter cannot Berg who now writes and conducts research for the National Shnell Registry of exonerations at that time investigators wanted tapped implicate. Hobbs they lied to tap stating that Hobbes had already already placed tap at the scene of the crime. They claim that they could help tap. If only he would cooperate. I as the questioning morphed into a pressure fueled interrogation according to tax defense the claims investigators made to him grew more extreme team turning into life or death decisions. They told him that he could face the death penalty and that if he couldn't recall what he'd done it was because he had repressed oppressed those traumatic memories during the trial. One of the police officers testified the top described Angie's clothing at the time of her murder. which which could implicated him but examination of the tapes and polygraph results later showed the tap never mentioned her clothes until after he had been shown on crime scene photos early on prosecutors offered typically deal seeming unaware of some of the exchanges between him him and police they believed was lying to string them along so they rescinded that deal? His confession was played for the jury and even though they lacked. DNA evidence connecting acting him to the scene. He was convicted. Carol Dodge Glare tap as the judge read his sentence thirty years to life in prison prison for the rape and murder given that the man who sperm was found on her daughters brutalized body hadn't been identified. Carol new new full justice hadn't been done another man had to be involved not just tap in an interview with dateline in August. Two thousand twelve. She said the anger just surged through me. And that's when I went to the streets and I literally put sixty thousand miles on my truck searching for her killer and she wasn't driving only through safe neighborhoods or at broad daylight at one point. Someone put a gun to her head as she comes. The streets treats new leads cropped up but didn't lead to anything. Substantial Carol would often end up. Parked outside of Angie's old apartment building caught up in what she described as an all out obsession. She wouldn't rest until the man or another man who helped take Angie's life was found. She poured cord over police reports until they were virtually etched in her memory barely sleeping between her searches. One of those reports included a phrase that stood out to her something about pubic hairs. Not just blood found on Angie's body. It sounded like something that could help from DNA standpoint. So she reached out the expert Dr Greg. MP Kin who happened to live in Idaho hemp eakin also a fruit fly. Geneticist and college professor became involved in the criminal. The hairs were sent off for testing. The results showed they didn't match. Angie or tap no physical evidence connected anyone to the murder except for the sperm firm and those hairs which belonged to the same person one killer tap. She believed had to be innocent now. Carol felt felt. She had to do something she had not yet done. Watch all the interview tapes beyond his confession as she did not only did she perceived Steve Manipulation as an officer Prada tapped to consider hypothetically committing the murder and eventually guiding him to confess but she noticed that he could not identify other details details such as the building. Angie lived in a corner building. That would be difficult to forget. Detectives kept correcting him. She observed rather than making way for honest two answers so carol decided not only to fight harder to find her daughter's killer but to help free innocent man. This was striking considering that Carol previously wanted tap to receive the death penalty meanwhile the officer largely responsible for putting tap behind bars. Ars remained certain he had the right man. Furthering her efforts Carol contacted. Stephen Risen a well known expert in false confessions sends and a law professor at Northwestern University in two thousand ten driven co authored. A paper entitled the three Errors Pathways ways to false confession and wrongful conviction. The report analyzed three mistakes that take place in every false confession first. Investigators instigators have to miss classify. An innocent person is guilty so classify someone like tap as a murderer second they have to subject them to quote guilt presumptive active accusatory interrogation that invariably involves lies about evidence and often the repeated use of implicit and explicit promises and threats. Let's so for example telling tap that they could prove he was guilty. He'd probably repressed it and he may as well try to escape capital punishment. Then once wants the interviewers have elicited a false admission they pressure the person to provide opposed admission narrative that shaped together often supplying innocent suspect backed with the facts both public and non public of the crime. That sounds a lot like the frequent corrections officers made that Carol noticed and taps interviews news by analyzing these steps the author's hope to help minimize false confessions from leading to wrongful convictions. This is pretty big considering saying that the innocence project found that out of one hundred thirty people who exonerated based on DNA evidence after being convicted of murder eighty one of them over sixty exte- percent falsely confessed. As of two thousand eighteen driven agreed to look into antidote as murder and taps confession free of charge. Drizzly agreed to look into the Angie Dodge murder case and taps confession free of charge in a report published in two thousand fourteen cortines. He concluded that the confession was indeed coerced produced through pressure and deceit and enhanced by the officers who supply tap with information to lend and credibility to statements. He helped bring in the innocence project of New York to work on the case along with the Idaho. Innocence Project and judges for justice just to secure taps released from prison. Not only was it confession. False emotion filed by taps attorneys argued. But it didn't make sense with the evidence. Silence taps that are murder happened at the time when Andrew was out with her friends for example when in reality she was later after being asleep for some time in March two thousand seventeen taps rape conviction was vacated and his murder conviction sentence was reduced to time served. Thanks to Carol Dodge odd and the team she pulled together. He was released from prison. So who had killed Angie Dodge a couple of years prior to taps release these detectives searched ancestry dot com for DNA that might be connected to the case and they gotta hit a close enough match for someone. They believed to be related to the attacker. After securing a search warrant. They learned the man's identity. Michael UH three. His son also stone-age Michael assery quickly became a suspect. The name Mike had come up in interviews with tap as someone he thought might have been involved and as the team researched. Michael US three. He seemed suspicious. He had social media connections and Idaho falls and had created a grisly short film called murder. Delia the film centered on a convict. Who Stabbed to death? Not Unlike Angie Slang.

Stop the murder of Angie Dodge but first a quick break. Welcome back to murder minute it today. The murder of anti-age the last time Carol Dodge saw her daughter Angie. She hugged the eighteen year old. told her yes she would always be her baby and how much she loved her. cowl wrote about this on a memorial site honoring Angie's tragically short life at the time of her murder. Angie was just discovering who she was and had been feeling the stress of what we would today call adulting. She'd recently moved into her own apartment and traded her antiquated oldsmobile. She and her friends called the boat for a sleek new Chevy. It was the summer of Nineteen ninety-six the the same year. Google dotcom launched something. You could only access through dial up internet. It would take a while but advanced technology. She would eventually help. Authorize solve her murder. Angie Ray Dodge was born the youngest of four kids in Vancouver Washington toward the end of nineteen seventy seven completing the family. They moved to San Diego and then to Idaho falls where she attended grade school middle school and high school. While I'd hope falls isn't exactly a small town too many residents. It feels like one in the late nineties. The heavily Mormon community often left their doors unlocked and neighbors knew one another by name so when Angie vanished from her daily life it didn't go unnoticed when she didn't show up for work at a beauty salon. One of her colleagues stopped by her apartment to check on her behind the unlocked. Door she found Angie's half-naked body thirty on the floor amid a gruesome bloody crime scene local police chief Mark McBride responded to the nine one one call and told. CBS News that while there was no sign of forced entry. There were many indications of Struggle as she was attacked act stabbed with a knife. Fourteen Times Angie fought for her life. The killer sexually assaulted her to then he jackie late it on her body leaving leaving. Behind what DNA expert Greg Ham Piquionne called Pristine profile. He also left a bloody handprint on Angie stomach. The case should have been fairly open and shut given this DNA evidence which could identify the perpetrator certainty if they found a match. And that's precisely nicely. What police aimed for promptly connecting DNA samples from dozens of local men and questioning? Virtually every man who knew or had contact with Angie but some returned to fall and fall into winter without a prime suspect or arrest early the following year that changed police arrested and charged. Benjamin Hobbs a man from Idaho falls with sexual assault involving a knife in Nevada. Wondering if this wasn't wasn't his only or most insidious crime investigators questioned hobbs and some of his friends about Angie's case twenty year old Christopher tap hap. One of those friends. Both men were part of a group known as the river rats who hung out near Snake River. Which skirts around Idaho falls trails els? They lingered in far from an apartment and witnesses had spotted tap with Angie at a gathering the evening before murder detectives interviewed tap up once and then again a couple of days later that January at the first session taps for that neither he nor his friend. Hobbs were involved in Angie's death in in any way during the second he's at Hobbs Killed Angie and asked him to provide his alibi at another point. TAP said he'd been with hops that's when he murdered her. Why did you story change so many times? Such shifts definitely. Don't make a person look innocent. DNA testing did however ever tap was not a match for the semen found on Angie's body. Neither was hobbs even so investigators continued to press tap ordering multiple polygraph tests and taking him to the scene of the crime seemingly as a means of getting him to relive it at the month's end with with his fifth polygraph detectives told TAP. He might be able to get a milder sentence if he had feared for his life. After witnessing the attack on Angie eventually tap said that was the case stating that he joined in on the violence because Hobbes threatened him. An officer told tap he passed that lie detector test keeping a note about signs of dishonesty when he.

"The only other information we have from this ad is obtained from the sidebar. The sidebar is a good place to get extra information that was not placed in the description shen of the ad so in this particular case the seller gives us a little bit more so all the extra information is as follows condition seller puts good cylinders eight. So it's a VA drive. It's rear wheel drive. So here's an interesting tidbit of information for Dodge trucks if you see a a D. in front of the number like in this case it's a D.. One hundred that designates this truck as a two wheel drive if you see a w in front of the number then that means four wheel drive. Moving fuel is gas diesels. Were really rare on these trucks. So most likely you're only going to see gas paint color. He puts gray a now if you look at the pictures. This thing is all sorts of different colors it's grays and blues in rusts and Browns and so it takes the pain for what it is is just a description title status. He puts clean. So it's gotTA clean title. That's good transmission automatic so we have a V.. Eight automatic de one hundred short Abed which is a pretty desirable truck in the ten girl. Dodge community ten grew. What's a ten grow? Chris you've probably heard me toss that term around once or twice. A Tin Grilled Dodge truck is the nickname for these trucks which was coined by Paul up in Canada from the Tin Grill. Dodge trucks group on facebook. It's a huge groups. Got Like fifteen thousand people in it. And they're all fans of the nineteen seventy two to nineteen eighty trucks which we affectionately call ten grills so if you hear me refer to attend Grill Dodge truck. That's what I'm talking about. There's a lot of ten guerrillas there and lots of opinions too so be careful with that you got guys there that only like their trucks lifted lifted only like their truck stock only their trucks lowered or any combination of the above. I like them all. I don't discriminate when it comes to ten girls I I think they're all cool but other people don't feel the same way anyways. Paul does a really good job of keeping that group in line. So you won't see anything but seventy to eighty eighty dodge trucks and plymouth trail dusters on there. And if you do. It won't be there for long because Paul will put the axe on that. That's a shoutout to Paul. How you doing Paul Hope? You're listening this episode. This truck is a great starting starting point for somebody who maybe doesn't have a huge budget start with five hundred and fifty dollar truck and its or best offer or you might be able to get this thing for a few hundred bucks. Okay so not only. Do you have a decent truck to start with a decent platform to build. It's only five hundred bucks. You know what I mean so if you just build an engine for it and you decide later on down the road because of the truck actually has more Russ than you originally thought. Maybe you can find another truck. Tuck and use this one as a donor or so you can take to trucks and make one really nice one or you could part out the truck saved the motor and go get yourself a different project. Maybe you're an e body guy or a body guy or a B body guy or anybody guy and you want a different vehicle. The great thing about this truck is is. It is a desirable truck so if you decide down the line I'm just going to sell this truck you know. Maybe you fix it up a little bit you know put some money into it and maybe you can double your initial initial investment. You know five hundred bucks maybe a thousand on it you know. Sell it for fifteen hundred but you have the engine that you can take put an different project. Now that's not the direction I would go. I personally. This is what I would do. I would buy the truck get it running and driving. The paint isn't a cool Patina. It's you know it's pretty nasty so I would probably get get get the body work done you know I. It doesn't have to be professional if you get it driver. Quality have a fun little truck for five hundred fifty bucks to start. That's a great starting point. It looks like an old workhorse. So it is a seventy eight one hundred it does look pretty solid from the pictures a lot of these trucks you can look at the cab corners and the rocker the bottom portions of the truck like on the fenders and on the bed and you can usually see rock right away another place that I've seen these trucks like to rot is right on that top roof line at the top of the windshield. I've seen him rot out there a lot. But this thing looks really solid for five hundred bucks it really GonNa Complain about what shape. It's in shut up. Go by the truck put an engine in it and go have some fun. You know what I mean. That's a great by so this truck is posted on facebook right now on the mot part hundred page so if you like project cars and you WANNA see more cars and trucks like this follow me on facebook at the Mo- part owner if you're looking for a cheap entry into the world of Mo- par as far as projects go. I think this truck is an excellent candidate and it's the cheapest project car of the week we've had ever so that's got to say something I really WanNa to call. This guy gets more information about this. Chuck this is a steel. I'm just looking at it and I'm thinking to myself five hundred dollars. It's five hundred dollars worth of parts on. This truck is a great deal. Someone needs to buy this truck today. Five hundred and fifty dollars or best offer in this week's listener story fits this episode really well. Since we're clearly. Having a tin grow theme this week The project truck was legitimately unintentional. It just happened to be on the best project vehicle That I've found for the right price but I did intend to tell so this story as well as the story of my d one hundred so this week's listener story was submitted by a gentleman named Kyle and he's a college student and he he just so happens to have a ten grill of his own. So let's get into Kyle Story. Hello Mr mopeds hunter my name is Kyle. And I'm a junior in college. This year in Wisconsin. Many of my relatives have new and classic Mo- Parts and I always wanted a project of my own last year I purchased a nineteen seventy three D.. One hundred hurt step aside from an older gentleman who bought it only a few years old. It had been sitting in his ship for thirteen years when he decided to have his son posted on craigslist. When when I reached out to him in the dead of winter last year he said we can wait for spring and the trump would not be going anywhere? But I couldn't wait. We jumped in my friend's truck with a trailer until made the two our trek to purchase this truck upon arrival it was a little rougher than the seller had led me to believe. The trump was repainted in the mid nineteen ninety s and it wasn't holding up up very well but looking through the chip and flaking paint. I could see the potential. Although the engine was not running it did turn over with jumper cables. I heard the distinct sound of a classic classic moped starter and I knew I'd be taking it home. After a little negotiating I handed the seller one thousand dollars and we pushed it onto the trailer with a few months time in a little bit but of money I have the truck running for summer my friends and I cruise it around all summer and fall and I even drove it across the state to buddies cabin. I put a four barrel intake and carb mild cam and some long tube headers on it to help wake up the three eighteen this winter. I've started the bodywork. I plan to learn as I go with the help of my dad's experience along the way I plan to reshoot the truck. It's factory yellow color and continued driving it for many years. I've been listening to your podcast for a few weeks now. After stumbling across the first episode I love the Listener Project Section and I'm able to live vicariously through them while I'm at school. Keep up the awesome show. Thank you kyle. I've attached a picture of my truck can't wait for the episode when you talk about about your d one hundred. Thanks for sharing your story and I've got great news. Not only am I sharing the story of my d one hundred on this episode but the project car of the week is a D. One hundred and we're I sharing your story buddy. It's always fun here story about somebody who gets pumped about a project and that sounds exactly like what happened to you. I really liked your persistence. When the seller told you that you could wait until spring and you're like nope going to get it now that's awesome that's dedication and I really liked that? I love hearing stories about people going going to pick up their project MOPE ours. I think it's great. I love here in the story of finding the car or truck going and getting it free at home and then you know your plans for it. Those are always fun stories. Kyle I wish you the best of luck with your d one hundred. Keep me posted. I'm looking at the picture right now. It looks like a really nice truck. It wasn't until two thousand fifteen when I realized how much of a following these trucks had. I've been obsessed ever since I think these trucks are awesome. And I'm really happy that people are starting to catch on and I mean much to the detriment of the enthusiasts of these trucks. Because now they're getting a little bit higher in price but you know they're still out there you can still find him. A lot of people still don't understand what kind of potential these trucks have. And that's fine. If they don't know that we can still get them for pretty cheap so good lot kyle with your project. I can't wait to see what happens with it. Keep me posted. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you end up doing it. Thanks for sending in your story..

"dodge" Discussed on Rubicon: The Impeachment of Donald Trump

"We need to show that they can get things done in Washington but if you if you if you draw the like that like the fallacy is pretty obvious there right okay. So why don't they just pass everything that Donald Trump wants. It'll prove that they can get things done. Of course that means Donald Trump will become more popular and suddenly their ability to hold on to their districts. Democrats ability to hold the House Democrats ability to beat trump in the election and starts deteriorating right so like at some level down to how much of an emergency do you think we're in right and the frustration. Is that Pelosi and some of these other Democrats crats are not treating this like it's sufficient emergency right. It's an it is to my mind and emergency that overrides. All other policy goals right. We have eleven eleven months to decide whether we're going to continue to be a liberal democracy or not and whether or not you got a better deal in prescription drug prices the prescription drug prices are really important. But they're actually not as important as that. Yeah so I I actually think about this in almost the exact same way is that if Democrats rats are going to like cut if they're going to quote cut deals with trump They really ought to be a one shot deal. You're not gonNA have a second. The second chance to to get this done. That really advanced the ball on some progressive goal and They should also be issues issues. Sort of code as a Democratic Party issues so like I traced out a hypothetical that if trump were willing to pair a big minimum wage hike. Fifteen dollars minimum wage. Whatever in order to get this trade deal done like I'd probably get there? I think that that ends. You know you you get so much out of it that it might be worth it. And it's clear that trump gave some to get some and so it's not just a a straight victory for him but if you don't have that kind of You know situation at hand If the benefits are marginal or if you think that future Democratic president can do as well or better than you just don't do it right like this is not cutting the same trade deal with Mitt Romney it would be totally unremarkable of Democrats. were making this deal with Mitt Romney But in a world with democracy under threat and the US president is the single biggest part of that threat then handing him easily spun on victories. That validate key parts of his message. Seems like such an obvious mistake that I'm kind of stunned and I WANNA go back to this idea of despair that I was talking about about earlier because you know it's it's obviously not just me right. I mean I wrote this thing because I had this sort of ambien sense that it was happening The reaction to it was has got a ton of feedback from other people who are feeling the same thing. Recently I started reaching out to therapists to talk to them about what their patients are saying about trump I lasted this in the run up to the election I started talking to therapists about patients who had a lot of anxiety that trump would win the election. It's kind of heartbreaking. Because one way that they helped them manage that anxiety was to help them. See how unlikely that possibility was. She's obviously not possible anymore. Right so I've been talking to therapists pissed. You know in in blue parts of the country but who say that trump comes up in almost for some of them. Trump comes up in almost every session right and and I was just talking to somebody this morning. Who was telling me that She feels like people have moved from the state of hyper Hyper vigilance to a state of despair and that despair is I mean. It's dangerous for them but it's dangerous for all of us. We cannot ah go into election with are people feeling that By the way she was saying that some of the people that she treats they're having the hardest time with what's happening are are Holocaust survivors. And so I think that our people the people who are going to hopefully have a chance to save democracy In eleven months. They need to feel like they have a champion. They need to feel like there's somebody who recognizes the scale of the emergency who recognizes is. How terrified they are and who can stand up for them and inasmuch as we have everybody focused on this little tiny demographic slivers hours of these front-line districts? I don't think we have that and I think it's it's really really dangerous before wrapping it up. I did want to talk to little bit about the trial. What you anticipate it looking like stipulating that Sitting here we don't think that there's anywhere close to twenty the republican votes to remove him. What do you think it looks like? Are you concerned about these murmurings among moderate Democrats. They might prefer censure rather than impeachment. Of course I'm concerned terrified and I mean it's it's it's so self defeating it makes it makes my head want to explode. I mean I cannot fathom why they think that kind of getting to this point and then let essentially leading donald trump off the hook would be You know an a good idea not just for a good for the country but ultimately a good idea for them but the other thing that concerns me about the Senate trial With Bill Clinton's Senate trial. I think there was three witnesses called. I would be surprised if there's even that many I mean from what I've read there's you know there's trump who wants to turn it into a big circus and try to call hundred Biden and try to call all these other people in some sense. I feel like that would be the better situation for Democrats. Go find you call Hunter Biden but we're also calling Rudolph Giuliani and we're also calling. You know life partners and all these other figures a trial in which kind of nobody's but he's called and it's just kind of a bunch of Senate floor speeches seems really anticlimactic all right. Let's leave it there. Michelle Goldberg. Thanks for joining us. Thanks for having me. That's it for this week. By next week's episode. The impeachment of Donald Trump should be complete and we will be awaiting the trial of Donald Donald Trump in the United States senate. That trial probably won't begin until January But that doesn't mean everything will be on hold until then there's another transcript out there. The Democrats want to see this one between Ukrainian President Vladimir's Alinsky and vice president. Mike pence so the chase is on for that will also likely learn whether and when the supreme cream court will hear arguments over president. Trump's challenges to all these subpoenas of his financial records and one silver lining of a narrow impeachment investigation.

Donald Trump senate House Democrats president Hunter Biden US Mitt Romney Democratic Party Washington Pelosi Mike pence Michelle Goldberg vice president Rudolph Giuliani Bill Clinton Alinsky Vladimir Democrats.

"dodge" Discussed on Rubicon: The Impeachment of Donald Trump

"Michelle Goldberg welcomed Rubicon. Hey thank you for having me. So we're recording. This perhaps a few hours before Democrats on the Judiciary Committee finalize the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump and send them to the full House so on the one hand that's obviously a very mentors thing But as I kind of alluded to in the introduction. These aren't exactly the circumstances. A lot of impeachment supporters orders had in mind when the inquiry began. So I guess I wanted to start by just asking you where where your head is at as we approach the end of the house side of the impeachment process. Are these two articles of impeachment enough. I would say I'm in as dark places I've been anytime in the last three years You know I'm glad that the House is finally impeaching. I've been calling for impeachment for a long time. I think that two articles of impeachment that can pass. The full House are better than you know a broader impeachment that would be at risk of failing if some moderate members get cold feet. But but it just seems like a big big mistake to at least to me to have rush this through and then turn it over to Mitch McConnell who you can both set the rules and try to shut it down as quickly as possible You know all the days. When Colonel Vin men and Fiona if you own a hill and the various other diplomats and national security officials who are testifying about precisely what trump did in Ukraine? Those were good days for the Democratic Party. I think any day any day that you have a hearing with factual evidence in fact witnesses testifying to the depth of this administration's corruption on all of the major TV networks. That's a good day for the country and sort of why. The Democratic Party wanted to limit. That is something that you know even after talking to kind of savvy people who understand the politics of this and are worried about these front-line districts. I still don't quite understand it. Yeah I I feel very much the same way you know. We talked to my last I episode with Matt Miller about this idea that you know Nancy Pelosi. Donald Trump can't both be right about what's in Donald Trump's best interest but they both both agree that the impeachment inquiry should be drawn to a close and I just eat there. There was nothing that happened from the beginning. Beginning of the inquiry to the end of those hearings that should have spooked anybody in the Democratic Party that this was going to hurt their individual political standing and then just to as as a matter of what somebody like Donald Trump deserves is. Is that kind of colonoscopy you know just put everyone everyone who can attest to How how low of a person he is behind the scenes on a witness stand and just make them talk and I still have a hard time understanding? Why why? There's any urgency at all among any of the members the Democratic Caucus About letting a process like that play out for another several weeks You tweeted something. And just a couple of days ago that resonated with me on number of levels and I and I understand you have a piece coming about it coming out in a couple of days you wrote. I've read about climate grief. The despair felt by climate. Scientists watching helplessly as something. Precious and irreplaceable is destroyed. Lately I'm experiencing democracy grief I'm wondering to what extent you were lamenting the rise of anti democracy forces here and around the world into what extent That was a comment about the way pro democracy institutions leaders etc.. Have responded to that. Well I mean I think that they're interrelated you know part of what's what's sometimes they feel like we're living in a time where you have the rise of the Axis powers and no allies right. You don't really have any strong defenders of democracy anywhere as you know as much as I might admire Uncle Merckel and Justin Trudeau. And I you know I was also I was thinking about the fact that you see over and over again Democrats Including me at the beginning being sort of baffled that Republicans have been so quick to align themselves with Russia to repeat Russian propaganda about Ukraine to accept Russian intervention in the election. And it occurred occurred to me that you know for most of you know certainly for most of our lifetime before a lifetime. The United States and Russia were engaged in an ideological vehicle conflict right I it was liberal. Democracy versus communism than it was liberal democracy verses authoritarian kleptocracy and in both cases each side was very interested in kind of showing that its model worked and the other one didn't write this one of the reasons that all of them so many any of the Democratic accomplishments of the twentieth century or possible because it was still possible to shame. The United States for the distance between its democratic aspirations are democratic ideals and what the society itself look like an often it was. Because we'll you know we're in this contest. We have to show that we are better than that. So that people aren't attracted to this other sort of model and make sense that Republicans would not feel any conflict conflict with Russia anymore because there there really isn't any ideological distance right. They're both on the side of authoritarian kleptocracy of using you know kind of reactionary populist social politics you know about kind of women and gay rights and you know kind. Ah Reinstating Patriarchy right. They are basically on the same side against the Liberal Democrats. And so there's no reason to expect any sort of I don't know there's no reason to expect anymore them to show any sort of national solidarity with with the rest of us and I think we saw that during these hearings during the Judiciary Committee hearings on impeachment. We saw it with bill bars. Recent Jason Interview. There is no. It's no longer possible to have any sort of communication with people who are not interested in convincing. They're not interested in making an argument. They're only interested in obstacle obfuscating and in kind of demoralizing their opponents. It's and in kind of undermining any shared conception of of reality and it just strikes me that Democrats yeah. I know. It's I'm torn a little bit because I feel like liberals who are frustrated and scared and it's always tempting to take it out on Democrats Democrats say that. They're they're not doing enough when it's not always clear what exactly they should be doing. But I do think that we don't have that that our side continually under reacts to what we're facing see that's what you just just said his exactly where my mind went when I when I saw what you wrote it to me. It was a it was a tweet about a lot of things or appoint about a lot of things but it was also point about impeachment. You know you have this. President who has tried to sort of forged. This international alliance of ethnic corrupt nationalist governments and the Republican Party has trip basically assented to it and then And then separately you have The the matter. That's that's under investigation in the impeachment inquiry which is You know this abuse of power art extort Ukraine to help Donald Trump in the election. But you know Nancy Pelosi frequently tries to link these two things right she this all goes back to to Russia with with you And and you know. She's she's obviously right as illustrated by the fact that you know yesterday. A while trump is a democrat drawing articles of impeachment pertaining to trump denying the Ukraine president An Oval Office visit. He's he's he's bringing the Russian Foreign Minister into the Oval Office which is weird on so many levels Because you know. The president doesn't normally fete top diplomat meet with foreign leaders at the Oval Office and last time he brought Sergey Lavrov the Foreign Minister into the Oval Office. Is he absolved him of of meddling in the two thousand sixteen election. There's just there's all this rich corroborating reading it's almost like trump is like dangling in front of our faces I would say it feels like he's rubbing our faces in it right exactly like an and the in my mind the obvious response that is like okay. We're we're going to keep going then you know if if if what you're saying is that you're completely on chastened the your rubbing it in our faces that a not only you're gonNA get away with this be you missed the bigger story and the bigger story continues in the White House today. Then then why why not Make that the centerpiece of a new round of investigation And not only because it's what he deserves but it's because what fighting to win this fight between the the international consortium of of corrupt ethnic nationalist and liberal democracy needs. It's it's like the two things are inextricably linked and I felt the same sort of democracy grief that you alluded to when all of that played out on on Tuesday. And can I say something quickly you know. I was in Ukraine Ukraine a couple of months ago and one of the kind of heartbreaking things about what's going on in Kiev right now is that you. I can't think of a country that is kind of more idealistic about Western style. Liberal democracy then key right because you know unlike say some of the countries of the eastern bloc they thrown off thrown off Russian domination relatively recently right so they're still in this stage where they're really excited needed about Europe's who really excited about you know they have this parliament full of really young people. They're excited about the fact that they eliminated nationalities finalities on people's Passports you know that they have this kind of American conception almost of Ukrainian them and it's almost like they're are you know they're they're ten years too late because there's just the the forces that used to be there to bolster that kind of nascent. Democratic idealism have just have just collapsed and again I still am finding this really hard to process because the the analogy to climate grief. Is You know it's more. The analogy isn't just the grief. It's you know liberal. Democracy has been the climate that we've lived fin for almost our entire lives right. It's sort of was the air we breathe and it had never really occurred to me that I could see it. You know deteriorate to the appointive disappearing in my lifetime or that. My children wouldn't be able to grow up in the kind of country that I'd always taken for granted I mean and it's just the scale of the loss to me is so disproportionate to the scale of the political cool response and I think that's where so much of the frustration comes in. Yeah I I strongly agree with with the sentiment that you're expressing right now And there's all these corrupt things happening that ought to be. I think Part of the impeachment inquiry but the sort of international realignment nine mint like if if if the United States is going to become part of an axis of authoritarian countries. Then that could happen an in a In a process that is in and of itself sort of above board in a way where. It's like really something that we should fight out in an election if we can have a free and unfair election but it's something that ought to be fought just as hard even if you can't really do it in an impeachment Which is why I wanted to talk to you? About where the The United States Mexico Canada agreement that the Democrats announced they were going to pass fits into. So you're thinking about everything that we're talking about. Well you know it's interesting because I think like you. I was initially kind of gobsmacked like what on Earth are Democrats doing giving in trump a victory on the same day that a are announcing articles of impeachment. Right I mean it's just this desire to appear her by partisan for which as far as I can see. I don't see where they are getting any sort of credit for that But it's you know again. I don't doubt that there are districts whose politics Nancy Pelosi understands far far better than I do and so you know I think she certainly understands better than I do how to maintain a democratic majority in the house but I have had conversations with with democratic aides. That have made me think that they are just not seeing the broader national politics. You know one democratic aide was saying came to me. What what they've later you know? It's been reported that Nancy Pelosi said we'll look we're able to eat their lunch and we were able to extract all these concessions and there was a piece recently in the Washington Post. That had a lot of Republican. Senators can have grumbling about what they were being forced to suck up. Because this is probably not a deal they would've would've accepted From anybody except for Donald Trump so in that sense I understand why this is a deal that Pelosi would take but then the politics of it is to say trump got rolled. Because he's weak right. It's not to say look at. All of these policy wins that we got an expect people all to be able to put those into context. I would feel much better about about the politics of this and obviously you know the deals. If if she really wants to deal to be done I guess that kind of rubbing it in trump's face has to wait until it's the deal is consummated right or else or else kind of falls falls apart. If if I had the sense that that's how Democrats were going a message that they were gonNA message it aggressively. I'd feel better about things because in the in the in the current climate where it's just you know we need to prove that these frontline members can quote unquote walk and Chew Gum at the same time. Is You have this terrible rebel forest for the trees policy which is like to save these district..

"Saudi Arabia pays cash director. Molly isn't it fair to say that the president is written answers not only inadequate and incomplete because he he didn't answer many of your questions where he did his answer show that he wasn't always being truthful I would say generally Saudi Arabia and I get along great with all of they buy it from me. Spend forty million fifty million my supposed to dislike them. I like them very much. The articles of impeachment against Donald Trump charge him with abuse of power and Instruction and if anything is true in life Donald Trump has abused his power and obstructed everything that's threatened his grip on power indeed abuse power and obstruction are frameworks at Congress could use to impeach Donald Trump for most most of the impeachable offenses. He's committed at least in theory in practice. The House of Representatives has chosen to impeach Donald Trump for only the most immediate abuses of power and acts of obstruction before them. President trump solicited a foreign nation Ukraine to publicly announce investigations into his his opponent and a baseless conspiracy theory promoted by Russia to help his reelection campaign. President trump abuse the power of his office by conditioning to official acts to get Ukraine to help his reelection the release of hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid that nation desperately desperately needed and a White House meeting with an ally trying to fend off Russian aggression in so doing he undermined our national security already and jeopardized the integrity of our next election. The evidence is every bit as strong that President Trump has obstructed congress fully without precedent and and without basis in law. If allowed to stand it would decimate Congress's ability to conduct oversight of this president or any other in the future leaving this president and those who follow to be free to be as corrupt malfeasance or incompetent as they would like with no prospect suspect discovery or accountability. What does this leave out unless you think? Trump betrayed his oath of office for the first time earlier this year it leaves out the vast majority Jordy of his high crimes and misdemeanors remember. Trump ran for president promising to commit war crimes and order the Justice Department to investigate his political enemies. He's and he's kept his promise. He continues to use his private businesses to solicit bribes and otherwise profit from the presidency when his illegal conduct has caught the eye of prosecutors. He's obstructed their criminal investigations. Consider this hours after house. Democrats it's introduced articles of impeachment. The government revealed that someone had offered one of trump's top campaign aides rick gates cold hard cash not to cooperate with special counsel Robert. Muller one minute we learn trump will not be charged with bribery or obstruction of justice. The next we learn someone in his his orbit bribed a witness to obstruct justice and yet Rick Gates has not been called to testify. Meanwhile while House Democrats gear up to impeach the third president in US history they also cut a deal with him a deal to modernized Nafta the same free trade agreement he. He ran against to appeal to working class. Voters in the Midwest in the criminal justice system prosecutors normally charge defendants with crimes. Only when they're near certain that juries aries will agree with them and as it happens the Ukraine shakedown and cover up may be the most cut and dry crime trump has ever been caught committing. He had the motive means and opportunity and Democrats. Have the evidence but impeachment isn't criminal justice and as long as Republicans remained lashed to trump. It isn't really a system of justice at all. It's a bully pulpit for exposing corrupt President and those who seek to keep him in power despite all of his crimes. So why are Democrats doing this. And what should those of us who fear the consequences of accommodating on authoritarian president. Do Response. This week I'll discuss those questions nations with Michelle Goldberg a New York Times columnist and Co host of the podcast. The argument and we'll look ahead to what's next in the incredible shrinking impeachment of.

"I thought the other is another one, but there's not so hurry into your dodge dealership and start your introduction to the brotherhood of muscle. Should I talk about adult job just as a segue? Yeah, I. Yeah. You got the best job and you get to spend spend the bosses money. Yeah, it's true. What did you guys get? So we rachi. I mean, this this year is almost a year that trucks. So she we've got, we just about drive Silverado the Chevy Silverado, which we own a Ford f. One fifty. And we just been out on bought a Iran, fifteen hundred. So we're going to put them all together in the not too, not too distant future. So the Silverado you haven't gotten into yet coy driving that in the next couple of weeks. Right? So the f. one fifty got a lot of time and you guys have that in the fleet? Yeah, and you got the new, the new ram, and we've got the new ram which we've just been out and be non purchase. So this is this is kind of this happens once every roughly seven years that we brand new full-sized trucks. The f one fifty s been around a little while now, but the rhyme in the Silverado. This is such a big deal for all of these brands. They invest a billion dollars in the Aren t they sell millions things a year. This is this is a huge moneymaker for all three of these companies for the big three because these are the most profitable cars in the lineup. Yeah, I actually just pulled some some sales because before I came here, this is year todate through to the end of June. So Ford f series, four hundred and fifty thousand us. Second Chevy Silverado just under three hundred thousand this the first half of the year just through the energy. And so this is the first six months of the year round pick up to injured and thirty three thousand. So it kind of makes you just how critical these vehicles on the big mulching vehicles. Full full are the makes loads of money and sells lows of iphone fifties, or it doesn't sell the foam. Fifty eight doesn't make any money. It's simplest, that's it. All the other cars are dressing pretty much it is like the whole. The whole thing is fueled on on these trucks. Tell me why you think the f. one fifty has been the most dominant and sales for so long. Do you think it's at this point now it's just a loyalty game or or do they do? They make a truck to make a better truck. It's a great truck and actually it does a, you know, they they do a good job with it. It's not just selling on on reputation if all these vocals with come on so far, when you think metrics where ten fifteen fifteen years ago and she took the ram home last night and spend some prototype, and it's it's so I mean, we spent sixty thousand dollars on this thing. It's it's a lot of truck and we were, we rush you. That's not the most expensive that's getting on that way. I mean, we will get one of the things we always play with us as a company's Dewey by the base model older. We by the biggest seller and more of what we do. But in this case, we wanted to try the gadget. So we got the big screen with all the capacity. We've got a lot of a lot of things to play because what we want to people is is worth. Worth paying the extra for the big screen. You get value, that kind of thing. I would even add get the one with all the gadgets on it because somebody might get a less expensive one with one or two of those gadgets, and you guys should be able to test and evaluate all the gadget. So if you tell somebody, hey, get the base model because you're a work truck but but somebody wanted with the WI fi or something so they can print invoices or do whatever that feature is you guys gotta have the one that with all the goodies on it because you can tell them, hey, we liked everything except for the why fire we liked everything except for whatever..
