Project Car of the Week: 1969 Dodge Dart
"This week's projet carve. The week was the nineteen sixty nine. Dodge dart posted on the moped hunter. Facebook page on tuesday january fifth at nine a. m. let's read the ad nine thousand nine hundred sixty nine dodge dart sixteen thousand five hundred dollars. Nineteen sixty nine. Dodge dart very well built four forty. Tci seven twenty seven dana sixty with four fifty six in spool fiberglass front rear deck lead from bumper. Just put down the direct floor. Liner front end has been completely rebuilt. Everything has been changed including the torsion bars retires or hoosiers that don't have fifty miles on them. Amnesty distributors six. Al box brand new holly xp carb too much to list completely rewired with ron. Francis wiring also have the box with the extra wiring for other applications plus instructions also frontiers new and converted over to kelsey hayes. Four piston calipers shocks in front or new shocks rear. Our new drag shocks car is very fast. Title status is clean. I know what you're thinking. You're thinking here he goes again with another dart drag car. And you're right. I can't help that. I love dodge darts and i can't help that. I love drag car projects. They're just cool. I really do enjoy them. I think they're awesome. And i think that great project cars and this car just happens to be another dart. The reason why. I like this one so much is because it's pretty much ready to go to me. It looks like it just needs a few finishing touches and you're off to the races. I should say that like with any race car project. You'd go through this thing from top to bottom. But just based on what i see. I think it's a great candidate for a drag car project especially at under twenty grand. I mean this thing sitting sixteen five. I think there might be a little bit of room but you know just looking at the car and comparing it to other things that i've seen out there for maybe half the price the seems like a good bye. I will say this though. It may be kind of a handful on the street. And that's only because of the spool and the rear end ratio for those of you. That don't know a spool is a fully locked rear diff unlike locking diff the school locked at all times. So when you're turning you're gonna feel the rear end grabbing and gripping the road because the wheels will be unnaturally turning at the same rate of speed so it's kind of impractical parking taking turns and stuff. It might feel a little bit weird almost like if you're a four wheel drive on the street you know and you crank the wheel all the way and you try to turn. You're gonna feel that rear end like skipping almost The other issue that i saw was the four fifty six years. I think it would be really fun. Obviously light to light on the street. But i'd imagine if you're on the freeway a lot of could be an issue but that said you know a lot of people run these gears all the time even on the street so i guess it just depends on the type of driving. You'll be doing and if you're willing to put up with it it might be okay if you only take the car out occasionally on the streets but at sixteen thousand five hundred you have a great headstart to a fun strip car. That can possibly be driven on the street. It's a big lakhdar with some bigs and littles also has what looks to be centerline. Auto drags on it. So that's that's a plus in my book. I love those wheels. So big and little auto drags cool in my book. It's gotta side exit exhaust aluminum radiator. It's got a nice racing shift in it. Some cheap racing seats grant steering wheel. You know this things got some potential you know does it have its flaws sher- but we can work around those and we can take this platform as you get it and then make it your own. You know there's still room to improve and you know that's sure to tickle anymore. Part theseus fancy especially mind the thing even has really bars too so if you did drive it on the street the only addition to make it even more intimidating would probably be a parachute but discards cool has a ton of potential and it sure to turn heads on both the track and the street got nice orange paint a black bumble bee stripe. It's got a giant hood scoop on the front like the old school. I don't know what you call it like a pro street hood scoop. I guess I think that's the word i'm looking for. I think that's the description i can give. But it's not the typical hood that i would like to see on a mo- par but i guess it works. I like hemi hood scoops or six. Pack hood scoops. I think those are cool But it's got four. It's got the fiber last trunk so it's got four pins on that to hold it down Like i said it's got the whealy bars so cut that bad ass aesthetic to

Interview With The Host Of Talking Mopars Podcast
"Today, our guest is Chris Albrecht Chris host, the podcast talking Mo- parts. He has built this baby as the number one podcast on planet earth which I like, and he himself is known as the moped hunter. Since our four hundred and fortieth episode was coming up I thought it would be good to do something to mark the occasion, and maybe he'll correct me here when it comes to mow power power plants, I think four forty may be the one I think of I even more than a four twenty-six, even more than three. Really four forty is what I think of I. But. What I really want to do here is focused on mopus and celebrate kind of a special day Chris Welcome to the show. Thanks for having me on rob I'm happy to be here. Totally. So. Chris let some ground rules here. I'M A podcast year. Europe podcast her we either have to work together or we gotta go to like the death and Only one of us can win I'm all for working together. Sound Good Man before I ever got into podcasting. I was a fan of many automotive podcasts including yours and that kind of pave the way for me to go. You know I'm obviously not going to do a podcast about muscle cars because that would be competing with the big dogs but I decided to focus my podcast on what I'm absolutely one hundred percent passionate about which is parts totally at most that was tongue in cheek and it's a big world out here man, there's so much room and. Opportunity and I have made more friends in the podcast space than I can even count and it's always been a good thing. It should be that we're competitors but were really not I. Don't know why it works that way but it works hand in hand and I really enjoy this and I can't wait to learn more here. So Chris let's start with the basics before you even get to the moped stuff. This is our first conversation ever where are you? Where'd you grow up get into? Cars I grew up in Seattle Washington and I currently live about thirty miles north in Marysville. I grew up around Mope ours I spent a lot of my formative years in a nineteen seventy five dodge custom. What we know now as Boogie Van Really Yeah my dad bought a seventy five cargo van a dodge black nothing in it completely gutted and he built it from the ground up you know this shag carpet the bed in the. Back the spoiler, the porthole windows, the side of the crater mags, all the fender flares the whole kit and caboodle along with that vehicle my dad in one, thousand, nine, hundred, I was born in one, thousand, eight, five, thirty, five and my dad bought a brand new Daytona Turbo Z in one, thousand, nine, hundred, five black with louvers and the car has a talking computer in it so it will tell you if your doors are ajar and things. Like that and as a kid, I thought that was the coolest ever being I'm watching rider on TV and my dad's car as a young kid I'm like Oh my God, my dad's car talks to. So ever since I was young Mo parts have had an impact on my life and when I was young, my dad didn't have a par muscle car but I, had heard stories of his nineteen sixty nine dodge dart that used to go. To, the street races with and just have a general good time with and I was always intrigued I'm a car enthusiast I. I, respect anybody that has a passion for cars. I don't care if it's a Ford Chevy or an import I respect all but I've always had a deep seated love for Mo- powers and when I got older, I can finally afford to get myself a couple of projects. So here we are what were your first products? My first Mo Pars were a nineteen sixty-nine Dodge Dart coincidentally, the same color as my dad's name I've found that, and now I also have a nineteen seventy six dodge deal one, hundred short bed pickup truck that I love as well, and that was kind of like my answer to the C. Tens because I've had see tens before in the past before I got into buying my. Own mopeds, construction company, and the owner bought me a seat in. So I've had my fair share of different vehicles but something always dragged me back to mow pars in when I was finally in a position to get myself a couple I never looked back.
The Rise of the Ratty Muscle Cars
"Hello my friends and welcome back to another episode of talking Mo- part before we kick things off, I just wanted to announce that. In case you have not heard the build Mo- par project car has been chosen and we. The people have decided that the modern Hemi will be going into a nineteen sixty eight dodge DART superstock tribute car, so now Hemi pages is on the hunt for nineteen sixty eight dodge DART hardtop to use as the platform for the built. So if you or anyone you know is selling a nineteen sixty eight dodge DART. Please reach out to my friends over a Hemi pages. You can go to Henry Pages. Dot. Dot Com or even build. Mo-. Par Dot com and reach out to those guys and let him know what you got. This is going to be a really exciting build, and if you didn't get a chance to vote on the first round, be sure to vote in on the next rounds and also tell all your friends about this project. We need to blow this thing up. We need to get thousands. Hundreds of thousands hopefully, millions of people involved in this and just see what we can come up with as a community I'm sure we can cook up something crazy, so that should be really fun. Maybe you've got a moped project. Project you're building or maybe you just went out and bought yourself your I. Mo par. Maybe it's not a show car. Maybe it's a little ratty. That's what we're talking about here today. I WanNa talk about the rise of the ratty muscle cars, because it seems to me that in the past few years, these ratty muscle cars and radio trucks have blown up. They are huge right now and I think I have the answer as to why this is occurring, but you know. I think it's multifaceted, but I really liked the movement I think it's an awesome movement. I think. It opened some doors for people that would otherwise not be able. Able to get into a muscle car. I think it lowers the barrier for entry for people like myself that don't have a lot of money can't buy show winning car that can't buy a fully restored Khuda or something crazy like that, but maybe you found a ratty mo par in your local classifieds for a couple of grand that needed a little bit of work, but you could tow it home and get running and driving lickety-split and get it on the road. That is Iraqi muscle car, and that's what I like to see. I love to see these cars on the road and not rotting into the ground. I think it's awesome. So now that we're warmed up, let's get this show on the road. This week project car the week is actually a truck that was posted on Wednesday July twenty, second at three PM, and going with the theme of ratty muscle cars and ratty trucks I thought this was a perfect fit, and it also happens to be really cool and has a ton of potential and would make an excellent project vehicle for anybody that wants to get in the Mo- par game and doesn't have a lot of coin in their pocket, so let's get into the at. Nineteen Seventy Dodge D. One hundred short box, five, thousand, six, hundred ninety five dollars Columbia Falls Montana lowered six inches the right way twenty inch wheels out back in eighteen inch up front wheels and tires, brand, new three eighteen auto, call or text titles. Status is clean. All right folks what we have here is what appears to be a running driving nineteen seventy truck. And it's got a cool Patina on it. It is not a show truck by any means if you think you're going to get. Show quality paint, and no dense dings or bumps bruises. You are wrong now. In case you're new to the show. I am a huge fan of mope par trucks and especially the nineteen seventy two to nineteen eighty, because I do have seventy six myself but I really love the early swept lines, and they have a ton of potential, but the good thing about trucks. For some reason they look amazing when their team it out. Maybe it's just me and now don't get me wrong I. Do love a beautiful. Beautiful Show Truck I. Love Him. I think they're gorgeous. There's something about an old. You know for lack of a better term farm truck that I really like especially ones that are slightly customized. You know little lowered with some nice wheels. They just have a personality and its personality that I really liked the nice thing about this one is that runs drives so like many of the other project cars? We've talked about the past. You can go out and enjoy this thing while you work on it this. This thing is good to go scout brand, new wheels and tires on it, and you know what it runs and drives. It's got a three eighteen in it, so you can keep three eighteen, or you can upgrade. Get a modern. Hemi, you know five thousand this. You could probably get this trump for five grand,

It's in your head that the final sweep is the sweep re run around. Shove everything into the car, but that's the ultimate challenge. That's like not. That's not like the big one. The big one is they get three clues that are usually like pop culture related that are connected to the names of the food, and they get like three items but the the the the cool part is the sweep where they run around, and they stuck up on Hams and cheese. Typically, that's what it is. It's meats and cheese wind of the game basically. They get to load in their car and make eight hour drive back home. "Some of the muscle cars from years past I'm actually a fan of the Essex. T and I would never knock anyone for owning one. They are good cars and you know they're reasonably affordable. Ask for the beloved Dart. Swinger three forty. It put in a good effort, and with the right tuning and modifications. This would have been a different outcome. I promise you. Also fifty years old bottom line. Is that I love the three forties and this little comparison. No way be looked at as a on either car. It's just a simple competition amongst relatives. That's all and let's be honest. They're both still cool cars, so no real loser here. I'll tell you. What though this comparison really made me WanNa. See what some forced induction could do to actually motivate that Essex v six. If anybody out, there has woken up one of these V. Sixes get at me, I want to hear the story I wanNA hear how much power producers I wanna hear what it runs in the quarter mile, so reach out to me and let me know all right. My opinion of the swinger. Three forty if you wanna put your dough in a goal instead of moldings. You'll like it I do. That was Charlie Allen's test of the swing three forty and what he thought of it. The swinger three forty was equipped with a three hundred and forty cubic inch V eight. How I Became Obsessed With Mopars
"Is how my obsession in with cars specifically Mo- pars came to be enjoy. The first few years of my life were spent in Mo- parts but not the ones you would typically expect. I didn't actually grow up around mope our muscle cars by the time I was born in one thousand nine hundred five. My Dad's sixty nine dodge dart was long gone on. So instead of a body mo par grew up around to Mow Pars. That would shape how I feel about transportation the rest of my life. My Dad traded in his his dodge dart for a brand new black. Nineteen seventy five tradesman cargo van and he became a banner he went from cruising in his dart in going on the street races and is cruising around having a good time to trading that in getting a van a cargo van to join the van mccrae's so he customized that van from the ground up. Porthole Windows Louvers big spoiler on the back that It had a yeah. It was a really cool looking spoiler. Fender flares sunroof crushed velvet interior with shag carpet tinted windows big side pipes and appliance steel. Spoke wheels come to think of it. I said on the episode where I talked about my Dr. They might dad's car his Dr had reverse crackers on it but now that I think about it I believe they were actually appliance steel spokes. That's that I just wanted to clear that up. In case somebody went looked at the pictures you know did some fake news reporting on me so he actually had appliance steel spokes on his. I do have have crackers for mine. That van was sold to my uncle. Ray Rest in peace on a few years after I was born and I spent a lot of time cruising around to Van Fares with my dad got in that van. I will never forget those. I still dig the book events to this day and maybe if my wife can get past the whole creeper van stigma. I'll get one someday. So let's talk about some of the other mope cars of my youth in Nineteen eighty-five when I was born. My Dad's set out to get a sports car. He had already built his van and I think he just wanted to have some fun again behind the wheel because vans aren't that Nimble and I think he just wanted ended a fun little sports car because at the time he was taking me so we live in western Washington At the time we were living in Seattle and my mom lived in eastern Washington so every weekend my dad was driving across the mountains and he needed something that was reliable and good on gas or better on gas than any van. That was going over there or anything like that so he ended up getting a black nineteen eighty five dodge dodge Daytona Turbo Z. It had louvers just like the van and funny enough louvers or making a comeback. I've seen a lot of these cars running running around with louvers on him including Mo- pars so I think that's pretty funny and I guess it just goes to show that history does in fact repeat itself. The Turbo Z was black with the red pinstripe. Sun Roof it had the louvers like already said a manual transmission and my favorite part of the car Chrysler's electronic voice alert system. If you don't know what. The electronic voice alert was in Chrysler cars in the nineteen eighties. Look it up on Youtube. The car had a robotic doc. Eighties voice I mean. Think nightrider okay. I and I'm not kidding. So it has this eighties robotic voice. That would alert you to things like low oil pressure low fuel Low Windshield washer fluid and it would tell you to fasten your seatbelts and it would even thank you for doing so. You have to understand that so it would say like warning. Your oil pressure is low warning it you know so. It was hilarious like thinking back so eighties like so eighties. But at the time you have to understand that that as a kid this was nothing short of magic. This was a talking car. My Dad owned nightrider. Only this was cooler because it was dodge Daytona Turbo Z. I remember bragging to the kids at school that my dad had a talking car and they all laughed and said I was full of crap. How Dare I? I knew what I knew and I knew it was true. The fact that they didn't believe me made the car even more special to me. My Dad must have had the coolest car on earth that nobody else had. My Dad clocked over a hundred thousand miles in that car. Basically in three years from all the weekend trips to visit my mom a couple of hundred miles away how he logged. That many miles is a long story but I spent a large portion of my youth on the weekends driving in that car in the back seat. Speeding we're getting pulled over in. That car wasn't wearing a seatbelt. I I was standing up in the backseat and we got pulled over and you know. Hey Hey dad make sure. I'm sitting down with my seatbelt on at least you know but You know it was a different time. Then road tripping is definitely in my blood I love it and I think a lot of that stems from all the time spent in the backseat of that Daytona. So it definitely holds a soft spot in my heart because I I spent so much time in it. Yeah here's a funny memory a few years after the Daytona was traded in on something something more practical for our weekend road trip so a conversion van that my dad bought I was in second grade and there was a show and tell for the class. Now Mind you. We hadn't had the car for a while at this point and I insisted on bringing a picture of the Dodge Watch Daytona Turbo Z to school in the second grade for show until I just wanted to show off how cool the car was and I had my whole will spiel down. I was GONNA explain why my dad's old car the turbo that we no longer had was cooler than any of the cars. Those dorks could possibly even imagine in. This car was out of the future. It talked for. God's Sakes I had a great case to make and I did just that to about twenty blank stares. No one gave a rip about my story or my dad's car or anything like that. In fact I remember everyone including my teacher. Miss Davis looking at me confused. Everyone else had brought in toys pets little trinkets and knickknacks. And I rot in picture of Mike. Tad's old car. It was that point that I realize it. They were all dumb and I was a car guy. I didn't even know that term existed. Then all I know is that my enthusiasm Suzianne for anything that could be driven started as a young boy and followed me into manhood. I was absolutely obsessed with semi trucks and cars. It's no wonder nearly three decades later. I would not only still be a car guy but that is also be driving a truck for a living. I'm a commercial vehicle driver. I guess it was destiny. There are two other MO- pars that were in my life that had an impact on my youth and the first was in nineteen eighty. Five Chrysler. Lebaron that my grandma who I knew as Nanna drove all the way up to the point that she could no longer drive. We even traveled halfway across the country in that car. I spent a lot of time in that Chrysler as a kid. Next to the Kenilworth I would drive later in life. That Lebaron Barron took me to more places in this country than any other vehicle in my life I was never too fond of it though but I associated. My grandma with that car are so in a way it was very special to me and my dad's still has it. As I grew up in gained more knowledge I realized what at a p O s that Lebron was because it had a two point six Mitsubishi engine in it what a disappointment that was what garbage garbage it was.
So you're thinking of buying a project car...
"Week's project car was an e Bay find and it just so happens to be one of my favorite cars not just just because I own one but because they're cool a nineteen sixty eight dodge dart so this car is an abandoned racecar project. At least that's what it looks like to me. Maybe the guy just lost interest in it but whatever the case. It's an unfinished project car. And it's set up for drag racing so or at least it's headed in that direction so this is a nineteen sixty eight dodge DART superstock hemi clone. It's got fiberglass front. From fenders two sets doors looks like Dana rear end with four link. Strange Break Strange Axles Manual Steering Column Column The seller says that most of the trim is included with the car. Except it's missing the windshield trim. It's got the sixty eight dark grill. Sixty Dr Tail Lights. It also comes with two pieces of four by sheet metal. My guess is to finish off the interior and all the tin work and it looks like the seller alert is GonNa throw in anything else that he may have forgotten the list with the car. It goes on to say that this car is a race car. Only now it's set at a buy it now. How price of eighty five hundred dollars and you know? Is it a good bye. I'm not quite sure I'd have to see the car in person but based on looks alone. It's pretty much. Just just a shell with a roll cage with hogged out rear wheel wells to fit bigger tires. And it's you know it's got some stuff going for and it's also got some stuff that it really needs addressed like is the cage even up to Nhra specs. You know how was the car built. These are a lot of questions that you need to ask when you go in. Look at these cars these unfinished unfinished racecars. Or if you're considering one I am a fool for these. I love seeing unfinished race cars. Because because I'm like Oh cool all the hard work done in this case there's still a lot of hard work left but if someone wants to get a little bit of a head start on a dart then I and I think it's a it's a good buy for somebody. That's looking for a race car. If you'RE LOOKING FOR MORE OF A streetcar you might WanNa shy away from something like this because it setup for drag racing so if you're gonNA spend eighty five hundred dollars I'm sure you can find a decent driver quality Dr that maybe it has a slant six in it. You know what it's pretty clean and you can always yanked the slant and throw in big block or a small block. Whatever you want you don't always have to get a race car and I think a lot of the time people you know they see st outlaws on TV? And they're like Oh. I got to do that so they go and they buy a race car. You know that hasn't been finished yet. And then they get in way over their head. That's probably what I would do you. You know if I didn't have my projects that I have now and I had some money burning home. My pocket in a car came up like this dart and already had a roll cage in it and it was already doubt if I didn't know any better. I probably would just buy based on cool factor alone but I do know a little bit better so if I ever go and look at a unfinished race car. Then I'm really going to look at the craftsmanship and the quality of the wells and the quality of the work involved in the car because the seller could have just started the project and got got in over his head realized he had changed a bunch of stuff and thought. You know what I'M GONNA cut my losses here. The car is nowhere near done. A have a bunch of money invested so it may may be easier for him just to say you know what screw it. I'm going to sell this car. And then just go by something and start over again. You have to watch for that kind of stuff when you're going and looking at these he's project cars because you never really know who built it you know. That's kind of scary when you're talking about safety equipment like a roll cage in you don't know who built it then then you've got you know. How do they got good welds or do they have experienced building race cars? Do the wells have good penetration. Trey Shen you know last thing you want is to roll a car that has shoddy roll Cajun at first of all you probably went to pass tech inspection. But let's just say you. You wield your way through got on that starting line and you rolled the car and you had a shoddy cage. Guess what not only can a cage save your life they can also kill you so those are things you have to keep in mind when looking at race cars like this or either x race cars or future race cars depending but that still doesn't take away from the fact that this car is cool if you were to go look at it and you're looking at the cage and you're like wow this is actually really well built. Maybe it just wasn't painted then in your saving a couple grand and then you've got the suspension set up and you know anything else all the little extras included with with the car. Like in this case. He's got some fiberglass fenders. Those definitely aren't cheap. When you're looking at project cars you really have to consider it as a whole you know? I'm kind of a fool in the way that I would go look at his car. And just think Oh my God look out coolest racecars everything else is like an afterthought I would hope that if myself or or anybody else is going to hand over. Eighty five hundred dollars on an unfinished project that you at least look it over really well maybe bring a friend. The second set of eyes is never a bad thing. But I really like this dark you know. I would have to see it in person to kind of determine if it's something that I wanted to get into into or if it looks like there's a lot of work that needs to be redone and I might as well start fresh with a much cheaper car a much cheaper Shell and then go oh from. They're not a bad car. I just thought it was cool looking on in the picture. It actually shows an overhead shop crane. It looks like it's You know him. He's hanging by right right in the engine. Bay The DR so a good sales tactic like this could be you but not a bad car. Are I wish the guy luck with the sale. I hope it's set up good in that somebody gets a good start to a race car out of it that that would be really cool because I love Dodge Dart superstock cars and the sixty eight Hemi Dr is also one of my top Mo- parts of all time along with the Barracuda. They're just so cool. Hemi bodies any body with a Hemi as cool in my book so cool Dr Check it out on Ebay. It's not hard to find. Just look up. Nineteen sixty eight dodge DART superstock. And you'll probably run across it so if you're looking for a little fun at the track and a a little fun at the garage I because you're probably going to be building this car for two years before you even get into the track. This might be a good deal. So they'll check it out on Ebay. It's still going to be up for another twenty nine days as it's got fifty two views per hour which is seems Seven people are watching it so it also has the make offer option so on Ebay you can do auctions by now or you can have a buy it now but also a make offer option option which tells me that this guy will take less than eighty five hundred dollars or else he wouldn't even put the make offer button there. So who knows what you could get this thing for. You might be sitting on a potential real cool deal you might go see. This guy will take five and Lo and behold he's like. I really need to get rid of this thing. It's taking up space in my garage. Yes I'll take fifty five hundred and then you eat that extra five hundred and Dan you know you call it a day and you bring your race car home your five thousand dollar Racecar so keep that in mind cool car. That's all I got to say about that. I would love of if my dart was built to look like a superstock but I just feel I would feel like an impostor because mine is a sixty nine and you know looking at the pictures this car. He's including these five relax vendors and they're actually four sixty nine because they have their rectangular marker lights if it's just a race car who cares and that's that that cool dark.
Dissecting an ad for a 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger
"Nineteen seventy-one Dodge Dart Swinger twenty seven hundred three eighteen. Va Automatic Barn fine slash field. FINE DART runs drives and stops clean title. I picked this up in western Nebraska. Very little rust no rust underneath neath or in the trunk rally wheels with brand new tires on it. Make me an offer. Twenty seven hundred dollars or best offer. Caller text only please jared. This car is especially cool. Because it is E. L. Five butterscotch. So not only. Does this car run driving. Stop and have a clean title but it is also oh hi impact color now. Judging by the pictures it looks like the car at one point had a white vinyl top in that has been confirmed through the fender tag it does have offender tag on it the pictures upside down which is super annoying. But you can flip it around and take a look at the vendor tag. It's actually a pretty low option car but it's still cool that it's A. Va Car are and it's in a somewhat rare color in it. Technically is a high impact color. So that's very cool. This car would be a perfect candidate for somebody who wanted to take a car aren customize it to their own liking not necessarily go with an OA arrest O on it because hey it's it's a base model swinger you know it's the va car. So that's great and you're already one step ahead of the game because it runs drives and stops now. There is some body damage on this thing. It looks like this thing got dropped out of the parts catalog tree in hit every branch on the way down. This thing is bumped and bruised. But it's still pretty solid I think this would be a cool driver car I say. Throw it on some MAG wheels tells and you know maybe hop up the three eighteen or just throw in a three sixty or hacked big block swap it. Why not? It's just the base model swinger. You know it is a cool color that I will give it. It used to have a white vinyl top on it. I there's no real pictures of the interior so I can't speak on that too much but I'd imagine that it needs some work you know. The whole car needs a little bit of work but it does run driving stop. That's awesome now. Here's my biggest problem with the Ad Barn find slash field. Fine How can it be a barn find and field find at the same time dude it. It was either found in a barn or found field now. Are you getting a little too technical with me because maybe the barn that the car is found in was in a field. I don't know now all I know is I hate it when people use those terms to try to sell a car. Who Cares who really cares? Just because a car was found in a bar does not add any value to it and I think somewhere along the line. People thought that if you write barn find that it adds money to the value of a car and it doesn't if somebody can prove me wrong on that please go ahead and do so but I don't think finding a car in a barn is is any more profitable than finding it in a carport. You know what I mean so that was the only thing that really bothered me about the other than that. Twenty seven hundred dollars or best offer Boura car that runs in drives that you can tinker with you know build a motor throat in have some fun with you know. Is it the prettiest thing on the block. Probably not but that's okay. Okay because as you know I'm not the big proponent of having something that pretty unless you got a lot of money to throw around in I for one don't so I think this is a great value for somebody who doesn't have a bunch of money to throw around but they want some they can get into. How some fun with seventy one dodge? Swear perfect perfect candidate and it sounds like the guys willing to deal. So where can you go wrong. I don't think you can. E L five butterscotch. Va Va car. Dart swinger baby get it.
FCA's Tornado Inline-Six Engine Rumor Comes Back Into Focus
"If you've been paying attention to mow par news recently. You've probably heard the same disturbing rumors that I have and that's that. FCA is going to be killing the five point point. Seven heavy in the Pentastar V. Six to make room for a new engine that they're calling the tornado. This engine is rumored to be a derivative of the current turbocharged the charge four-cylinder found in Alpha males and upon its release. It's supposed to be found in S. Rt Vehicles Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Now you're probably asking. Is there physical evidence. Yes some Mo- par sleuth some Sherlock Holmes found. A schematic a technical drawing that shows this engine and apparently it was found on the US PTO which is the United States Patent and trademark office and basically what happened was FCA filed the patent on the design of this engine. So whether smoke there's fire folks so this this may be true after all some numbers that are being thrown around when it comes to. This engine are a single turbo version. Standard that comes with three hundred sixty horsepower there will also be a high performance version that is twin turbocharged with five hundred and twenty five horse. Power I don't know what will be in between those two the numbers but that's pretty impressive. So currently the Pentastar v six I think is around three hundred horsepower and this new inline six starts at three hundred hundred and sixty plus. It's boosted so this is getting interesting so we'll see what happens apparently it's going to be using. FCA's new technology. He called E.. Booster e booster technology. I don't know anything about it. I haven't done research to speak on it but I WANNA do some research and dig up some facts apparently So from what I gathered the booster technology is basically a way that they've come up with to reduce turbo lag electronically that's all I know. Oh and that's barely anything so take my word with a grain of salt now if you have the same mindset as me. You're probably thinking at first when you heard this rumor at first you're probably like they're killing off the five point seven. Hemi what are they doing. But I mean when you look at that I number that three hundred sixty horsepower. Think think about the power output of five point seven Hemi and then maybe you're GonNa Change your mind a little bit because guess what you know with the five point seven Hemi gone. That's okay because we still have these folks relax. We still have him as they haven't gotten rid of him yet. And maybe the idea of a turbocharged inline. Six sex isn't so bad after all because you know when it's all said and done we still have the six point four three ninety two and we still have the six point two supercharged. Tammy's so you know I don't think it's something to be too worried about. I think a new platform to play with would be a lot of fun especially when you start talking talking about boost. There's a reason why so. Many people are turbo charging and why they're utilizing superchargers to build power because they do

"It every thirty thousand miles thereafter, so sixty five thousand ninety five thousand all the way up to two hundred fifty five thousand when you've got that little Pacific still going. My last car, I had one hundred ninety thousand running good. Although my problem is I show dogs and, and I was just afraid to take the chance of going distance short caller talking understand that with a lot of miles on vehicle. That is a little more concerning. No doubt about it. Do wanna let you know, your vehicle is included in a recall that I just mentioned. I don't know if you heard me or not. That. I'm going to question them about that. Opinion of this turning off, I can turn it off myself so that it doesn't automatically shut off. Right. If a lot of work on the engine should I? It's designed that way. So I really don't think it's a problem with the start or the engineering that I particularly don't care for it that myself. But that's just me personally. I'm just I'm old school. I got to tell you that, but I I don't care for it a whole lot. And I'd probably would turn it off myself. But that's just me. That's just personal preference. If it doesn't bother you, if something that you let it does get you better gas mileage. And there are a lot of traffic lights, a lot of things we have to sit and watch and sit for a long time. Now, you know, especially in Baltimore. I mean, you've got backed up traffic, so I, I don't have a problem with it. So it's completely up to you. It's not something that I would love to have, but I do understand the premise behind it, and it doesn't damage the engine in any way. Thank you so much of my questions and I love your show. Appreciate your listening and happy Memorial Day weekend. Richard is in our beauties good morning to you, Mr Richard. Good morning. Yeah, I have a problem with my reverse like they're not working. Okay. What kind of what we talking about? Dodge dart. Okay. And it's not under warranty anymore, but reverse lights are not working at all. Usually means the switch, you have a floor console. Correct. Shift. Okay. And in there is a switch when the vehicle goes in reverse. Now, what needs to do is get a friend back there to take a look at the reverse lights, and I want you to try to move the Shifter around the reverse. In other words, put you put firmly on the break and take it out a park. And when you put it in reverse moving around just a little bit. And see if they see any type of reverse light action at all it could be an adjustment on a shift or too. That's why I'm saying that now. But doesn't light up at all. Even when you going to wards reverse go a little bit pass reverse. Then you may have a bad reverse light. Switch. And that's in that in the Shifter. Yes. That's it's in the center, console Shifter. Yes. Okay. Not a major, a major deal and not a real serious problem. It can be taken care of fairly inexpensively. It's not a major expense. I didn't realize they were out the dash told me the it said, reverse laid out start the engine. Okay. Well that, and that's probably the switch going bad, because it wouldn't recognize the problem. I don't think the Shifter was a little out, but you can still try that just to see if it make sure they don't come on at all. But that sounds like the that the reverse lights switch went band. Now there is a possibility. One of the thing that I just thought about what that warning light coming on. There is a possibility that it could be involved in what we call a body control module. That's the computer that controls all of your excess reason lights, and it could be included in that. But I think there's a better chance still switch. Great great. I hope that's what it is. I hope so too. Richard. Look at the back when I held the reverse. Okay. All right. That's probably what's going on. All right. Thank you, sir. You have a great weekend. Thank you very much. All right. You're welcome. Bye-bye Bradley is in Annapolis. Good morning to you. Bradley. Good morning. Thank you, sir. A ninety six f to fifty or we'll drive seven point three liter diesel. Okay. As you know. Yes. Oil underneath of it. And I had a mechanic, tell me that thought it was probably the rear seal of the engine. The engine transmission mate, as he actually looked at it yet. Okay. Well, first of all, let's talk about how he looked at it was it actually on a lift. Okay. And he took a look at it, and that's what he thought remain seal. Well, I will say one thing, there's always a possibility of that being the case, but a lot of people get we'll pan leaks confused with remained seals. You're all pan Matt's right up to where the main seal would leak. So you gotta make sure that it's not an oil pan. Now. We'll pans aren't a lot of fun on a seven point three diesel either. There's no fun there. But that that's probably that's got a better possibility of leaking than the rear seal. Without. No. I don't believe so I think there may be too. We'll Panza upper and a lower on that engine. I'm not sure about that, but there could be and the lower one, yes. But the upper one probably has to have at least the engine lifted up, maybe not completely out, but it has to be lifted up and supported in order to do that. Pants. It's a job. No doubt about it. And the remain seal, I don't believe is bad. To do. Five hundred dollar jobs. No, it's, it's, it's at least a job. I'm sure the oil pan is, it's a tough one. Yes, it's a lot of labor involved..

I've got a seventeen year old son who is looking for his first car and his girlfriend's mother has offered him free a nineteen seventy six dodge dart. What I need to know. What are the implications in this? And in fact, is is this a vehicle that I would want my beloved son driving around in. That's that's good. I nineteen seventy six is is she currently, you know, we live in the mountains. I don't even know if this thing can go up and down hills up maybe and I think maybe she's thinking downhill real fast. Well, I mean, this can go up and down hills. When it goes when a six I have to say was one of the dark years Chrysler suspect as much I mean, it was but not really that bad. The fact that the cars on the road is it on the road. Yeah. Yard at least still visible to absolutely it's visible is as anyone driven started the engine because this may all be a moot point, he f-. In fact, it was driven until about six months ago, and it has sort of been moved periodically. So one person's driveway to the next person's driveway. You're only put it up put up with it as long as they could stand to look at it. I got a couple of questions one is we can address these in any order that you like Mary one is what is your son? Think about this car thinks it's it's you know. You know, it's free number one that he likes that. Because that means he doesn't have to invest all of his zero dollars into something that the the drawback for me is he does have to come up with the money to ensure it himself figure that maybe they drive more carefully. If they had to pay for the insurance. I'm not sure that's true. He's actually okay driver. I'm less concerned than I thought I would be before he was driving. Early evidence about what kind of driver. He is is when you were present, actually. Yeah. So while he won't be advantage won't be doing much speeding with this car..

He drove his seventy two dodge dart swinger into the garage, and you never did anything to it. His hat is sitting on the seat where he left it. It's been a crash in Portland, Oregon. But no fluids drained out of it. And it's mine if I want it. You got to do it man. Why is this gonna say, why would you want. My wife is saying, I gotta live with her dart swinger. That's the car that I went fishing with him. I'll tell you, yes, obviously has certain certain value to be on its its actual monetary value? Sure. And I'll say that this preceded the dark years at Chrysler by a couple of years, they didn't like it and bad for those guys at Chrysler until seventy four, five six seven eight nine eighty one. I mean, those are the real bad years, but seventy two. They were on the cusp of the bad years, have three inwards again, but it wasn't real black. I think it's got squirrels in mice under the hood. Oh, probably would. It's got now. I mean, I've been told that obviously, all the seals are gonna have to be replaced. No, listen to that baloney. No, that's not true. I mean, that's some kind of a wives tale that if you let it costs sit all soon as you turn the key, all the seals break. An oil starts squirting out from everything it does. You just put right back in the back. Even. Yeah. No, that's probably not going to happen. Yeah. What probably is going to happen is that you'll have to do something to the brakes. You may have to change belts and whatever. You'll obviously want to change the oil because they tell you change it every three thousand miles or eighteen years, which. And other than that, this probably not a heck of a lot you have to do to it and you should do to it except to make sure it's safe to drive. "Early we'll just a dodge dart swinger yet you can see you could see between sixty seven sixty eight charger and you see the lineage you look at a car is not the same we can see it because i had the one with the delightful different seventy one yeah i never see a car look so just a cheap medium priced car styling inside and out popped show yeah it had that the dart had that cool looking grill to you know it was like it was almost like while you can't afford the the charger with that awesome you know with the hideaway headlights we're going to give you this that's kind of like that but you know a lot cheaper to manufacture and it's just a great looking car yeah i say this about gm all the time yeah and and it's true a chrysler to anything that you bought from the cheapest car right up to the most expensive you could be proud of what that car looked like and i i mean i feel that way with any american manufacturer from the nineteen sixties sixty five sixty six sixty seven you just don't get better than that thanks a lot man appreciate it and you know i i know people love fifties cars and i appreciate fifties cars to but for me that that era was just killer i my mother had guys dax dodge darts dodge swinger and i got a scare my life in a super b yeah three superbeets were really cool they were cheap they were cheap muscle cars yeah they were meant to be you know muscle cars for people who couldn't afford you know the full blown coronet rt's and all that kind of stuff they were they were meant to be bargainbasement muscle cars and they were they were awesome and that's the thing i loved about chrysler to is they understood how fun those cars were and they tried to incorporate the wildest graphics the caller is like great color names like they just went all out it was like laughing in in in the chrysler design time it was awesome must and they the superbeets had this in the case i'm looking at black ramble these strike around the back end yeah yep back bumblebee stripe with that cartoon beyond which i thought was very cool earlier ones had an actual emblem at a at a b emblem which i thought was just like i again like i've never been a chrysler guy i would buy one of those in a heartbeat you are now you would get a scott pack yeah i would what's the cool emblem on that yeah right it's the same emblem it is it basically is the same emblem is yeah right right yeah i love that that's the.

"Primitive automobile back in ninety a seventy five dodge dart right and needed a timing chain and niagara falls new york is older guy and a lot of guys changes tagging chain and run the vehicle i bought the air force iran ran well but when he fixed he is what made a difference he said he dialed the dow the camshaft in stuff because it ran good but ran better than i bought bought us today dial in the cam stuff is supposed to he did the cam and lifters eighteen yeah iran a lot better gas mileage to ensure and nobody does you can't because it's it's when you do a timing chain or a timing belt there's marks on the camshafts marks on on the on the crankshaft and it's all computer controlled and you put that new timing chain on you get those there's there's they have links on the timing chains are colored you got to put him on the dot to dot their dot on the crankshaft and put your your guides in put your tension her in and that's it there's only one way to do it if you're off a tooth anywhere at check engine light is gonna come on so you have to you have to do it this way there's no there's no no freelancing at all let me tell you there's no way to do it this way or the wrong way that's a simple that so yeah yeah so yeah you just can't do anything like that so thank you all right great yeah yeah i gotta say a lot of is because of emission controls you know that this is set up by manufacturers how you get the best emission standards out of that particular engine so so you're off a tooth that lights coming on is telling you you got a problem so anyways hey marsh we got more calls her case she's got a toyota camry casey what's going on speakerphone let me know if that's a problem for your hearing it so so far it's good okay thank you hey i want to know if third protective coating that can be put out south stanford two thousand twelve toyota camry and secondly the problem started when offensive light came on the air pressure was reduced and the conclusion what about someone's leaking well that sounds dumb mechanics took it off he said that there was a lot of corrosion in there and it just broke so what and then that required censored to get a new center which the computer he gave us the code which we had to go to the dealer for another charge for that in and i'm wondering is you're what he did he's some sort of penetrating fluid on the other three town for are two thousand twelve toyota camry thinking that it may do something to alleviate the fact that if we get another foul stabbed that quite the week that we may not react to call everything we went through on this one right i i is there a protect protective coating that they can put on about like ours disappointed that protective coding input on their right to begin with then they wouldn't have this property i talk a little bit more with other people including the dealer they had said that they had tried doing that before but there wasn't anything that could be would be helpful mainly because of the the weather in the south the cold and i just wanted to get your take on all of this is this penetrating look any good on the retreat and what's your anything protective so we don't have to do their solid okay all right well first of all everybody just make sure we understand caesar val stones for your tire not val stems on your inside your engine but so yeah this is a big problem and the problem is is because the the valve stems back in the day which is not that long ago we're all lumina m correct you got aluminum valve stem so what happens you take the cap off and valve stem just breaks off from the corrosion from the salts in the water and breaks off in either the valve sounds exposed seater leaking air or soon we'll be leaking air and then you got to buy a whole new tps right.
