For now, wary US treads water with transformed COVID-19

"The fast changing coronavirus has kicked off summer in the U.S. with lots of infections but relatively few deaths compared to prior incarnations I'm Ben Thomas with an update on the coronavirus For many people the virus is not nearly as dangerous as it once was but COVID-19 is still killing hundreds of Americans each day The latest count by Johns Hopkins University puts the 7 day moving average at 354 And the Food and Drug Administration this week told vaccine makers to tweak any booster doses intended for fall so they protect against the newest relatives of the omicron variant FDA vaccine chief doctor Peter marks None of us has a crystal ball and we are trying to use every last ounce of what we can from predictive modeling and from the data that we have that's emerging to try to get ahead of a virus that has been very crafty It is a mixed and confusing picture repeat infections are increasingly likely and a sizable share of those infected will face lingering symptoms of long COVID Doctor Arnold monto is the acting chair of the FDA's advisory panel on vaccines Looking in the past doesn't help us a great deal to look in the future for this virus which has baffled a lot of us and made predictions almost irrelevant I'm Ben Thomas

Democrat Wolves in Sheep's Clothing With John Gibbs

"And there is a great candidate running against Peter Meyer, who, by the way, some of you might not live in Michigan, some people might not even been to Michigan. Some of you say, I don't really care that much about Michigan, we should. Michigan is a great place. But I will say this, you should care about getting these impeachment voters. Out of line and better candidates in place, and the man running against him is John Gibbs, who's terrific from western Michigan, he joins us right now. John, welcome to the Charlie Kirk show. Charlie, thanks for having me on. It's great to be able to spend some time with you today. Likewise, tell us why you're running and tell us what is your message against the snake Peter Meyer. Peter Meyer betrayed everyone in our district. Bayes after being in Congress find literally days in there. His first vote he takes is to impeach Trump. People put in their sweat and their tears and their money to Peter Myers campaign helping him win just as you guys did, Charlie, and he was saying all the right things. People thought he was a real deal. When he got in there, just a few days after he really backstabbed everyone. So he is not providing leadership. He is not representing the people that voted for him. And so I felt that I needed to do it. I wasn't planning to. After serving our time in the Trump administration, I was maybe going to work for a think tank and be out of the spotlight for a while, but some of our friends from our former White House said, dude, Peter Meyer voted in Peter Trump. You should go back home and run against them. So I decided to pray about it, think about it, get my ducks in a row. It's jumped in head first. It got president Trump's endorsement. Got doctor Ben Carson's endorsement who I worked under in the Trump administration and said, yeah, we really need to do this. We really need to provide leadership for the good people here in west Michigan. There's not getting it right now under Peter

Ann McElhinney Discusses Her New True Crime Podcast Project

"Welcome. I get to talk to somebody that I like. Her name is Ann, mcelhinney. Did I say it correctly and how close did I get? Oh my God, I love it. It's just unbelievable. All right, now you often I'm speaking to you along with your husband, the Irish by any chance. That would be right. And fail him is not with us today, but you represent him well. You've done so many things. People who listen to this program are familiar with you. You're a journalist. You made a film about Kermit gazelle, I don't even know. There's no way even to describe that. But we can talk about that. In just a moment, you're working on a film, or you've shot a film already about Hunter Biden, what is the title of that film? My son hunter, and that's coming out soon. More news on that quite soon. My son hunter, which is a film about Hunter Biden. Today, however, we're talking about another one of your projects, which is a true crime podcast. So if people are interested in finding it, it is called serial killer, a true crime podcast. And the serial killer, of course, is doctor Kermit gazelle, the Philadelphia abortion doctor convicted of many, many, many murders in 2013, it's horrifying. And talk about this. I'm not a big podcast listener. Some people listen to this program on podcasts, but what is serial killer a true crime podcast? Yeah, so the true crime genre in podcasts. As you say, you know, a lot of on the conservative side, we have a lot of podcasts that are like radio shows on demand. So people listen to your podcast to our podcast. And it's like radio on demand. However, there's this other huge territory in the podcast world of narrative dramatic sort of documentary style podcasts. And one of the biggest sections of that is true crime. So for example, NPR did a show called serial a narrative story about a boy who killed his girlfriend and Muslim boy who killed his girlfriend. 450 million people downloaded it. And it's very high production value is the interview people in prison. And we thought, you know something. We have all these tapes of interviews with Kermit goslaw of interviews with the detectives of interviewed victims. And it's pretty compelling

Let's Not Overlook Another Important Decision Affecting Voter ID in NC

"I want to talk about another important case recently decided by the Supreme Court that has been a little sidelined because of the big decisions on gun rights, the big decisions on preying on the football field and of course the biggest decision of all the decision that God decision regarding that overturned roe versus wade, the case I want to talk about is called burger versus North Carolina state conference of the NAACP. And here is what's going on in that case. It's a voter ID case. So North Carolina passed a law basically saying that you need to have voter ID. You can't vote without proper ID. And this has now been contested in court. The voter ID law. But as it so happens, the Secretary of State, I'm sorry, the attorney general of North Carolina is a Democrat. He's opposed to voter ID. And so in a kind of irony, you got the NAACP suing to get rid of voter ID. And by the way, think of how ridiculous it says. This is the NAA suite basically saying that blacks don't know how to get ID. These are the same blacks, by the way, that travel on a plane. And get ID. Make doctors appointments and show their ID, open bank accounts, ensure their ID, but somehow when it comes to vote, they don't know how to get an ID and so an ID requirement becomes somehow racist, it becomes discriminatory. It becomes, quote, voter suppression, I mean, is requiring you to show ID at the TSA, travel suppression, when the bank says show me your ID before you cash a check is that banking suppression, nonsense. But in any event, you have this case, the NAACP wants to get rid of voter ID and the NAACP is counting on the attorney general of North Carolina a Democrat to be on their side. Now he's supposed to be defending the law, but he doesn't agree with the law. And so the point is he's going to make it's almost like a prosecutor who wants the guy who's accused to get off. And so what is he going to do? He's going to put on a really bad case. He's going to put on a bad case of the jewelry goes, wow, maybe the guy didn't do it. So he healed withhold evidence that is incriminating why because he doesn't agree with the prosecution. He doesn't want to go forward. And that's what's going on here. And so the Republicans basically step in and go listen, we want to be able to file briefs that support voter ID because we don't believe that the democratic attorney general is going to do a good job defending a law that was in fact passed by a Republican legislature. So that was the issue. And so earlier, lower court judges had said to the Republicans, you don't know, you can't intervene here. It's the job of the democratic attorney general to defend voter ID. If he does a bad job, he does a bad job, but it is his job. And so the question here went before the Supreme Court is simply this, do the Republicans who have an interest in the law. They passed the law. Have the right to be able to weigh in on the case. They can't displace the democratic attorney general, but they can file briefs that say to the court here are our reasons for why voter ID is a good idea. And the Supreme Court goes, yes, they can do that. You can't prevent them from doing that. In other words, the whole idea here is that our legal process is

Yeah, I just wanted to tell people, I was not politically active. Politically involved at all. I think here more than 30 years. Most of the time, I'm just my own business, achieve my American Dream in terms of material. Just get a job buy a house, build a family. And it was about ten years ago. I started to see troubling signs. And that remind me of cultural revolution, started with political correctness. The phrase political correctness was familiar to you. Yeah. Why? Because we were told, what is correct? What is not? If you don't follow the correct prescription of way of talking, you will end up in jail. Or death. So there are words that you can not say in China. And the ones that are approved by the party are politically correct. So this wasn't new to you. No. And it's not only that, with the slip of town, you might just lose your life. It's just all this is nothing new. I want people to know this microaggression, nothing new. Mark Fleischman Plans to Die by Assisted Suicide

"I thought a lot about mock fleischman the other day because he's going to die soon. He's 80 years old. Actually he's going to die on July 13th. In Germany, but his wife of 27 years by his side. Some years after he stepped away from the insanity of owning nightclubs and restaurants, fleischmann understandably stepped away from the limelight that was the majority of his life. The last time I saw him was a little over two years ago. He invited me to a party that was throwing for the launch of his Studio 54 book. Is that some small joint in Beverly Hills? And the crowd was a mix of The Old Guard and the new. There was some New York City journalist dad too, namely my former nemesis at page 6, Richard Johnson. Fleischmann writing a book about Studio 54 was a good enough reason to get Johnson on a plane and out in LA to hang out. I said, the old man looks good. He said he sure does. Must been that good cocaine in the 80s and we both left. So smart fleshman came by and we posed for a picture. I wish I still have it somewhere. I got to find it. But he thanked both of us for helping keep the club and him and the column for years. It was a nice affair all in all, but I could tell this was one last gasp tomorrow. Like I said, I was closing in on 80. And so here we are. A couple three weeks away from July 13th. The day the music died from on fleischmann. And that's because several years ago, he became afflicted with a mysterious illness that would make him extremely dizzy at times. To his legs, sometimes flat out failing right beneath him. And over time, that illness could not be diagnosed by doctors and became worse and worse and more frightening by the day. As it is now Mark doesn't have any balance. He drops things and doesn't know where his body is in space. There was a time where a doctor is the very best doctor, by the way. Originally thought he had a form of Parkinson's, but it isn't that. Nobody knows what this is. He's suffering from. Once he heard that Mark knew what he had to do. One time he swallowed a bunch of Xanax, but doctors brought him back before he could overdose. When he was going to go buy a gun, his wife, Mimi, intercepted, and they had a long talk. Mark convinced her that he'd had a great life that he loves and now more than anything, but now what this mystery illness running his life, he said, it's time for me to say goodbye. Eventually, with his wife's support, they contacted a Swiss nonprofit group poll after multiple tests and psychiatric evaluations, it was obvious to see that Mark fleischman, a man who pumped so much life into New York City was now a candidate for assisted

I don't know what you guys did behind the curtain, but I'm gaining two or 3000 followers a day. Absolutely exploding. People need to follow you on truth social people need to get an account. But let's start with what's happening right now on Capitol Hill. It's a circus. Some of our callers have called it an inquisition, a star chamber. I got to ask you as a pro on Capitol Hill. Is this going to back fire in ways the Democrats do not expect? Well, I have some other names I could call it sea bass, but we won't do that since you're on the radio. I don't want you to, I don't want you to get bleeped out. Look, the Congress has never seen anything like this. It's never been done in history, where the minority party, the Republicans in this case, don't get the ability to put the people they want on the committee. So effectively, what you have, plain and simple, is you have judge, jury, prosecution, defense, all in one, along with the media who are just going along with this charade. So I think what's going to have to happen here, ultimately, is if the Republicans are successful in the fall, there's going to need to be a whole host of investigations, but especially around January 6th and what the government and the Biden administration and the Democrats in Congress, everything that they've been doing, even some Republicans are supposed to Republicans. "The recent. You know kind of low budget animation. That they've been doing the more cost effective animation. I should say and thankfully we it was released in twenty twenty and finally have a complete story so this is one of the things on my to do list that i wanted to get to as soon as possible when i was making the new schedule. So this story written by david ellis and now the hulk or zydeco the incredible malcolm hulk who wrote a bunch of notable stories from the patrick troughton in jon pertwee eras including will. Hey the war games. Patrick crowds final story the celerion. The first appearance of this larry ins ambassadors of death which was really cool story that we talked about here it also the seat devils a fun story with the master that we haven't talked yet so that's one of those that hopefully we'll get to at some point here on next up. This was directed by jerry mill. This was the eighth serial of doctor who season four nineteen sixty seven starring. Patrick troughton as second doctor. Unida wills as poly right. Michael craze as been jackson in. This is betty polly's last story by the way. And frazer hines as jimmy mcrae. Mid who at the end of the story gets a promotion to main companion after benn polly <hes>. Exit the tartus closing out the way of heart once and for all so jesse. I know that this is probably your first time watching the story. I'm guessing david your thoughts about it. So i yeah and i'm gonna have a couple of questions we'll get you that i assume you're going to cover in trivia but just in case you want yeah <hes>. So i settled down to watch this <hes>. Linda was out of. Linda was spending the night with her sister. Kaya in a many birthday celebration. And so i watched the first dealer yes. I watched the first three on friday. Night and i watched the remaining three on saturday <hes>. And i enjoy the. I enjoy the last three a lot more than i did. The first three now. I think part of that may have been. I was a little tired. It was today but also think the first three were a lot of setup. Yeah in once the next three you got really a lot of the story and was really well done so overall. I'm pretty happy with this one. I'm glad we got to see it. Yeah and <hes>. And i'm looking forward to talking to you about it but my question is <hes>. In you've probably covered this before. But i have slept since then. Why was so much of patrick. Totten's episodes lost and specifically about this. Well there was a purge by the bbc to essentially make space as i understand it and in the process they junked a bunch of old doctor. Who's they didn't think they needed them anymore. In their infinite stupidity and a lot of them were were episodes. From the william heart. Oh and patron eras you know there was in levin and some others that had managed to recover some of those over time because this was believed in the seventies and since then you know there's been a lot of effort by fans to try and recover episodes which have either been somehow scattered to the winds across the entire globe and or just play lost in this story. They'd only managed to recover episodes one in three. That are returned to the bbc archives. Because hey now they want to keep them a what. I what i find interesting. Charles is <hes>. the seventies relatively speaking. I mean i love. Lucy had been in syndication. So you think people would have realized the <hes>. Cordao yet and the importance and also. I know that they talked about that. Many of the early tonight show episodes back with johnny carson. The same thing they just re. They didn't keep them. They did because they didn't think they're reporting. And i remember years ago. I talked to someone and he was british. And he's like yeah doctor who it's it's just the it's just a minor kid show. Yeah i'm sure that was the ski. Oh executive thinking yes the super geniuses as wylie coyote super genius exact who made this horrible decision probably thought. Well it's just a kid show doesn't matter you know they. They won't miss it. We've already done <hes>. Because back in the day dear listeners you used to have summer reruns until you would show an episode twice and and it was kinda done. So i'm sure they were thinking okay. We've already had a repeat time to move on. It's just it's it was just a really bad unfortunate thing that happened to the show because you know like a lot of classic moments are just now lost in presumably. A lot of these are never going to be available in their original format. Now they're going to be like stories like this. That would probably be reconstructed through animation. Or maybe whatever happens in the next ten years technology wise that they could be recreated so now and i guess they had audio right so now the audio either fans have the audio or someone in so that's for steps are recreating it. Yeah thankfully now though. The upside that. I should mention was that through the efforts of fans a lot of kids at home you know. They had their home tape cassette recorders right. Or whatever you know recording real

"Is that her love for the doctor? But that was that was the choice Russell. T Davies made, and she's playing an amazing and to have that dynamics is just really really enjoyable. And, so I'm going to let Lee talk a little bit now so for I, just keep. On making front, you made some great points there and I feel like. Maybe you stole my notes before this. No You actually you said yourself I really think. He's in a in a good. At least the first Tau two-thirds of this season at the doctor actually troops. Martha rather poorly, maybe because his head is still on the clouds over. Those but I mean the first thing he does is he takes certificate fifteen ninety nine. to you know London with slaves. And now he takes her to a very racist, nineteen, fourteen or nineteen, thirteen, and and it a working as a chambermaid into subservient position, and it was really uncomfortable to watch from my standpoint and I think the doctor. Probably Unintentionally feel like he takes advantage of her and takes advantage of. Of of her love for him because. He knows how she feels. Any it makes me wonder which she even do this for him if she wasn't vying for his attention. You know to be requested. So yeah, that's I. Mean it was. It was a bit tough for me to watch. It and infinite made me a little bit angry at the doctor for for treating her that way. That's something that my wife and I talked about as we were doing the re-watch. I looked over at her, and I go like. The tent actress addict to Martha. Just a bit. But. So I I want y'all's opinion on this. Yes, is it because he? It's just so beneath him that he doesn't think about that or he just doesn't care. Because probably little little columbine. Fair. The doctor knows when when he's When he is catching the attention of of the latest, yes. When. points out you know when you talk about in his journal that Hey, look. Apparently, the doctor was a hit with the ladies. And? They make a girl in the fireplace fireplace comment. Newer New Earth wouldn't. Asandra when she's in Rose's body, the she she gives them a big smooch and he still got it. He's not that that. You. Know what I mean I really think he understands what's going on and at least at some level, maybe not is not maybe the front of his mind. What he has to know at this point, he's been traveling with her long enough. Yeah I, just I. I. I get when I watched this story. I'm so focused on Martha. Because as far as I'm concerned, she's kind of a hero of this story her intent. Yeah, yeah, exactly because. The tenth doctor, you know. He's all wrapped up in in the Human Romance. But it's Martha in her loyalty. Her devotion to the doctor and The fact that the doctor just kind of dumped her in this time period and said okay well. WE'RE GONNA hang out here for like three months, and you're going to be okay. Right because you know. Nothing's going to happen to you even though you're like you know black in nineteen, thirteen or whatever and nineteen fourteen so I'm sure you'll be okay, right? In. Episodes like Lee brought up shakes the the Shakespeare Code and. and. I'm sure that was kind of Russell t davies intent because here from Asia. She's playing the first black companion mark. Doctor Who Martha Jones and so I, think I'm guessing Russell T, Davies. Kinda wanted to show the problems that black campaign. You would have compared to a white companion. And so. Far as I'm concerned, message received because. It looks like a pretty much sucks to be a black doctor doctor companion going back to the past. At least at least you know, pre say nineteen sixties. Because because of just the Just you know the the the way you know, obviously you know. Blacks were treated and sometimes unfortunately still are being treated in our society, and in just a how cruel that can be. Compared to white companions. And you. To say, nothing of these are small things right like okay. You Suck me three months where bad food no indoor plumbing, necessarily or poor indoor plumbing. You know I'm I'm in a survey at role. I have no one to talk to you know and it's kind of neat to see her bond and that also as the sadness of Janney right. She has a friend in her friend ends up getting taken over. Got She loses yeah. which was a nice moment when we know something has happened, and it shows me is intelligent. She picks up something to and kind of right like says Oh, and just start saying weird things. Sardines Jams Yeah. Exactly, but you know like I. Love Little Moments. I mean I thought this was a great showcase for free. Asian the way she. Confronts Joan where we're Joe. Mix that crack about well. You know like you know well. I'm a nurse and you know someone of your station could never hope to be a doctor, or whatever and and Martha just kind of like puts her hand in half goes over really and just be like one by one like lays out the whole bones in the hand, and starts going through all this and showcasing her medical knowledge and going. You want some more of this. And I love that right well. You just you've learned that in a book. Yes, when I was studying, you know very very well done and And then. I don't WANNA skip too far head, but. The ending as Utah heartbreaking, because when the doctor switches over and John Smith is donor there he remembers. Intellectually, but not emotionally. He does not have that emotional connection to her. And you know, he says come with me. But. That's almost cruel on his part. Because, we're going to see the face of someone she loved, but you know and he's like, but it's okay because I'm going to take you through space and time, and we're going to have adventures, but it you know and like like almost like a you know like some like that will pacify her. That'll make you feel better like it's almost like a consolation prize. Perfect. Yes, it is very cruel, and it's not just cruel on that level. It's also cruel to Martha, but at the same time. He does at least offer her the chance to start over. Get so. On one hand at least giving her that choice, but at the time it is also very cruel to her in Martha. Yeah and Go ahead Charles No, no, no go ahead. I'm sorry. I didn't really have anything go ahead. I just was it. The sadness of that ending in the where? You know. I do we've already talked about this? With the brilliance of showing that life that could have happened and Some of my favorite. Golden Age or silver age I guess would be more appropriate. Comics would be like when when superman was thrown in the past, and went to Krypton before it exploded, and you know he had a whole life for something on it or when you have when when you see an alternate life. What is the What is the card episode that where he lives a whole lifetime? The Inter Lights. You know those I'm a sucker for that kind of story, and we get that here but within a very who've Ian Way. Yeah, yeah, I mean in and I I find it really like. Watching David tennant throughout the story. because. He gets a chance to play. He's on doctor who, but he's not playing the doctor. He gets to play someone else completely different and approach the character, his character in a completely different way. Which I'm sure as an actor probably was very refreshing to him. After doing a couple of seasons and And you know He. Makes John Smith very sympathetic. You know especially the way he's. He cares for Joan and you you could. Easily see earlier, you know I'm sure there was a you know a lot of people that watched this story going like well, you know if he stayed human and with Joan, would that be so bad? But of course we wouldn't get the doctor running around time and space having adventures, the so not much of a show there, but but but you know if even if you know if he did choose that live. I. Think some people would be pretty okay with that, because at least it would be a good ending for that character and then win. 'cause sooner later. Like when she died, he could go back and become a time Lord again and a life. It's kind of so theoretically. He could have just lived out his life. With her as a human then became like you know just like when she was close to dying or whatever. Or whatever she would, he would regenerate or. You know he would again and that you're like maybe get chameleon. Arch and Open that open up. The Pocket Watch and get his memories back and then he just regenerate into a new form or something maybe. Martha. Among. Chuck there. Yes, yeah, to be in, let's be overly pretentious. Right Right Scorsese's last temptation of Christ right that is the film does where they say you know his premise of via's that you know Jesus bright before he died sees this temptation that he could have this normal life am by showing it..

"Also said her other favourite was pulled Cornell shadow in the mirror released for human nature and the family. Yes got was so good and they were two stories with the premise is sort of A. Thing and Sequel and then Joyti Releasing I. It was really good because that was the big. That's the big difference between the Tenth Doctrine and the tank p. he was still wore you know steely and she is is much more Jen to. Watch those episodes that I think there's a little bit of the reason. He's so mean to them to like hold hotter to them is a bit rod of the end and spoilers if you have watched the episode. Anyway, there's a bit at the end where. The nurse goes to him to the doctor. If the doctor hadn't chosen to come here on a whim with anyone have died and he realizes like get. He that he tries that is randomly but the only reason people died is because of the family of blood and so he yeah, it's it's brutal but Hannah says what she likes about pull Cornell story is that it does acknowledge the doctor's initial actions in the family of blood took things a step too far rouge said she said she's glad that thirteen older and wiser doctor partially corrected that yeah. Yeah I was Kinda. Further, from the time more, no, she didn't kill everybody I guess and then also noticed that the Gallup Ryan's are big of dickhead since she's not her lighted.
