"Treated in America today. I'm frustrated, Pablo right now. I'm frustrated. The fact that we're trying to whitewash our history, you know, it's all right to do history, but it's not all right to teach it. You have to learn about history in America, slavery, Jim Crow, lynching, and I'm sorry if that makes anyone feel bad. How you think it makes black people feel? But this happened in the country that we're living in and we're telling teachers not to teach it. It's absurd to me because if you don't learn from history, you will repeat it. And so that frustrates me. What I am happy about is that athletes are all over, not just America, but all over our talking. They're speaking up, and so they have to continue to do that. Doc, where does this go from here, right? Because the pendulum tends to be the object that this whole discussion generationally most resembles, right? Its wings back and forth. There's a backlash. There are concerns about this is jeopardizing our business, viewers don't want to hear this from athletes, the games must be held sacred. Where do you think we go from where we are now? Well, the games are sacred, but after the game, you become back to normal. No more Americans do their jobs, and then they go out and protest, so can athletes. You have to all be open to listening to every side. There's no doubt about that. But it would be nice to try to figure out a common ground. And so what we have to do and what I feel my duty, and that has an athlete, and that is a coach. My duty as an American is to speak up, police are supposed to be peacemakers. I believe most of them want to be that. I believe most of them would love to be trained correctly. And so I think we should keep pushing to do that. That's not controversial. Doing something right shouldn't be controversial, you know? And so I'm just hoping all our voices can help us get there. So Doc, at the very end here, right? You're 60 years old. If you had the opportunity to tell 30 year old Doc Rivers, anything about the world that you would have it now, what would you tell them? If I could have talked to the 30 year old back then, I would have told them two things. Get a better jump shot 'cause I sucked. I couldn't shoot the ball. And then the second part would have been good more involved. I wish I hadn't even back to heaven. I kind of spoke out back then because, you know, I had a better vantage point with my dad. But I wish I could have used it more, and I wish I could have encouraged more athletes in that time to speak out more. Get everybody involved..

"And the convention center here at Anaheim is bedlam. We won the game. I had a big player in the game and did a terrible dance that no one should ever see ever again. Rivers to the rack. Count the basket and a foul. A game 5 in Salt Lake appears to be eminent. And we tied the series two two. And I thought that was the start of yelling LA because that was the first thing kind of in the air. You remember the Lakers went to Vegas. They play their playoff game. So we were the only one that Dwight kind of in town. And I.

"I don't win the title to come back and teams up and try to do it again and answer the credits and face the fire And put yourself out there. That's what makes four so great because when you actually are able to pull it off you realize two things how hard it was is the one thing which i don't think people appreciate how hard it is to win and and so And then the second thing is that you can based fire and go to it. And that's what makes it great. So yeah that's the only way to quiet them Rich by winning. So where does everything stand right now. What's your game plan here if it is in fact true as part of the bomb that that that there's been no communication since since he told you his intention to stay away from training camp. No communication over the last couple of week But we we still talk to his agent. several players. Still talking been You know. I always look at you. Know use aaron rodgers as the example. I remember that the spurs trading on elliott now and the physical failed. He said i'll never play again there. he comes back and they win the title together. So as you know. And i know things can change but we just gotta keep communicating and get through to them and maybe we can chase and then the other part after there's been a four year deal so this is all really into teams in on what we wanna do and we're just gonna do what we feel is right for the tape and i think that's the most important bar and that is to keep ben simmons right now okay right now doc. Rivers here on the rich eisen show. Do you think justin field should be starting what do you think what do you think about that. I trust the coach. I coach nagy just appeals to get out there and get hurt from from lack of blocking But i do love him. I think he's gonna be actually quarterback. Sometimes we have to be patient in this world. Is that a word anymore. Patient now i i. I know it's just you know. The the concept of take your lumps now and you know can can get you where you need to go faster. You need. Take a look at justin herbert year to if if he had sat last year you know he'd be taken his lumps now. Just that whole concept. Obviously you just don't know how the lump taking can actually even a permanent mark literally or or or stunt the growth that's-that's. Obviously the you know. Justin herber is more of a fallback quarterback we're fields is so athletic and runs You know. I think she would actually take more lumps. Say so you know. I love the bears to my team. i'm frustrated in really. What's the coaching. it's More sometimes with the are picking process. Let's just say that And so I feel like he's in good. So we're all podcasts can be acquired right now Everybody should check it out. Some fascinating stuff from speeches and discussions and interviews with doc rivers and that one with urban meyer and and tim tiba where they together. Did you get them together. Or separately fabric. That would have been phenomenal separate same day. And what was great as you could tell they'd been together for so long each one tote the same story a couple of times without the other one being there and i was like. Wow these guys are really tied together doc. Thanks for the time really. Appreciate it at doc rivers on twitter and of course this documentary podcast called. It was said sports were all podcast. Gonna be acquired. New episodes available on wednesday episode. One is already out. Don't go anywhere without. It was said sports in your phone. Doc thanks for the time. Thanks rich high. I will do that. Should that by the way. Those are favorite words in the history of this show. I'll be honest. I said hi. Magus doc rivers right here. On the richeisenshow texter. Tell her dachshund. What do you think six fan. I think he's right. Now he's gonna be there and to both look they have to they have i mean they have to make sure that he's there so they get the best trade value for him if that's what they really want do him come back and just saying we're gonna do it again. He basically said he's got four years left on his deal. I mean let's four years left on a deal number one team last year in the conference. It's just like i you know obviously caught up in the rapture as they say in the heat of the moment. But you've calmed down a little bit. Now it's like we're not going to get value for him so we got to find a way to make it work because dame lillard unfortunately isn't coming through the door just yet So just again thinking about here. The even that mrs i think the jets how to get rid of sam darnold for new coaching staff not to own his three years of misfortune and injuries and and and everything that had been done to him and not enough for him and all that don't don't sound that a new coaching staff. The differences here is that you know. Obviously it's not a new coaching staff. But the point. I'm trying to make by pointing out. Darnold is that had darnold state. And even if he had won a couple of games to three or four games and then it didn't materialize. Same thing different. Coaching have same thing. And now what that. Even if ben simmons and everybody kisses and makes up and he realizes what rogers i realized in green bay's i i'm not being traded so i'm either staying home or threatening retire and neither of those are great options because i like to play and that if that is in fact finally dawning on ben simmons and they do get together and they do have a regular season similar to last year and the playoffs hit and he starts missing free throws and passing shots all boy. Then you're back to square. One doesn't matter doesn't matter i think i'll has just take back. Take a shot. Like we see him. Go for twelve in over one. The be completely honest with you. Might i think the fate as a fan. I'm sure that's what just the says. He wants back magin sitting in that room. And him saying yeah. That's not gonna work out. Ads spoken in two weeks. We'll take a break. We'll come back eight four four two four rich number to.

Man that's how good it is well. Dj congratulations on on On everything that's going on with you we're going to keep an eye on new throughout the season Definitely flashed but you also have what it takes to be a football player outside the flash and that's part of the reason why you're the toughest player on planet earth this week. Thanks for the call. Thanks for everything. You got it adds. Dj graham right here. The toughest player on planet earth on the rich eisen show and the award is brought to you by gorilla. Glue makers have high quality adhesives and tapes much like the players this award recognizes gorilla glue brings toughness and strength to even the most difficult household projects and repairs including something that Zander knocked over in our house just the other day. Rela glue for the toughest jobs on planet earth that i love meeting these kids. Man at school love mutinies. Kids all stories. I know cool stories. And just like a defensive player to say i i will wreck something just to put it back. Let's take a break doc. Rivers on the other side. What is up with ben. Simmons is relationship with him the organization's relationship with him and more that's next. I've got my box good. He still from boxing. You're going this is These are some relics here. Here's one relic When paul tagliabue's said he was retiring and then it was wide. Open competition. If you will for commissioner of the nfl on nfl total access. I decided to have a campaign would be commissioner worse and they made up buttons. That's a rich eisen for commissioner button at got made up right there and i used to wear it sometimes. My suit and the people still do buttons and twenty twenty one. I don't know but back five six. Oh seven and now. Here's something from my. Espn days now tj. This is i think a good lesson for you. Okay and that you're gonna hear all sorts of crap from people certainly online. You see everything that's part your job is to see everything in and nothing is personal. It really shouldn't be taken as such because everybody's got opinions just like you know what's right true that so this came across. I put these two together these things together at my beginning at espn to teach me. That lesson tacked it up against the wall to different emails because back in the day on sportscenter they were asking people for help on the digital knows that ended sportscenter remember they. Did you know that we would always rely on research. Sometimes they said hey email research and that was just like so. These are two emails that i got. Put it up on the screen. The top one did you. No okay somebody wrote and did you know keith. Olbermann and rich eisen of the best sports anchor since the beginning of time right then that was in ninety seven and ninety six. Somebody sent to did you know. Did you know that rich eisen is actually a circus. Monkey dressed in poorly tailored suit. And that is why as a completely incompetent sports broadcaster two different suggestions for did you know and i take them together. That's all and i would. You can see. There's a whole up here. Pinned it to the board. That was in my prefabricated cubicle. And espn and then. When i cleaned out my desk i on pinned it and took it with me. And i put it in. A shoebox sat in my office. That i just opened up after however long it's been i have not seen this in a long time about it and i am still two things one of the best sports anchors of all time and a circus monkey dressing poorly so kind of a message that you're gonna hear all different opinions. Don't take any of them. Don't read the combat all. Don't.

"Three seven seven six outside of loan which quarterback starting your franchise with key said lamar jackson. Jay said cuyler murray. I said damn key. That's a good pick. Lamar jackson so make sure i wish. I would've figured bungalow take justin. Herbert didn't want to say this shawn watson but there's a lot going on with the show so make sure to mex- as you tell people this that you emphasize patrick mahomes. What should emphasize the outside of patrick. So please just understand. We're not saying patrick. Mahomes is available right. He's not other than mahomes other them homes because that's the unanimous choice and i'll take justice herbert because herbert's farther away from getting paid and he checks. Every box had a great rookie year. Jay why did you like cuyler. Murray's your pick. I just think there is. There's something so electric about how he plays. And and i get it just as the league continues to move more towards rb os and you know. Just doing out of read options. I just i love the way he plays and he has. I think is arm is slightly better than lamar jackson. I'm not saying that he is as elusive. Because i think the mars on a different level. I just i mean. He's thrown for six hundred eighty nine yards in two games and seven touchdowns this far in use around him with the right weapons. Look what he's doing right. Now with the andrea hopkins. And you think about jay green christian kirk is this rhonda more. He has the pieces. I i see that as being the future of the league that style of play. Yeah i could. I could pick from many different quarterbacks. I can go in air rogers. Who's a veteran guy. But you know I could get a championship in the next four years with iraq. Think i'll be happy right. That's interesting so you would. You would take an older guy because you think he is of such quality that what would you rather do win a championship or two and four or five years or just be competitive for ten or twelve. You'd rather get champion. The whole goal is to get the championship. But with that being. Said i'm not gonna take aaron rodgers right now because eras it's like patch mahomes. It's an easy damn choice. And let's dive into things. That are not so easy. Is there a dak prescott in our future is there. Lamar jackson are baker. Mayfield all those guys in our future. All of those guys that we talked about josh allen. I am going to take lamar jackson. Because i think based on the dynamic nature playmaking ability rallying the teammates around him without even trying to they play for all that is important. Factoring into what you want out of your quarterback. I want a quarterback. That's going to get my team into the end zone. He seems to do that pretty much. Every time you look up just about as well as anyway just about as well as anyone so you start to think about statistically you look at numbers i i heard j. o. Via rattle off the great numbers of kyla murray and the touchdowns and things of that nature all air stuff titled connor. Murray's good on the ground as well but our air stuff. But if i took the lamar's total package night against the cassie chiefs and he accounted for two sixty seven air another bucket on the ground so whatever. That number is three hundred and fifty. Total yards of offense three touchdowns if i gave you that stat. Line to any of those other quarterbacks you take that and run with it the points the points however we get them they add up to a w but some people just don't like that they like different things and so it's not like that at the end of the game what they scored twenty eight points. But two of those touchdown on the ground. So we're not gonna count them to seventy exactly. And i had this conversation with stephen a in mali yesterday on or i. Hey some people like ice cream differently. It just do some. Don't like it at all some pass on it me. I like ice cream. So i like what that is in the mark jackson. I play with enough quarterbacks. In my day to know that i can help. A quarterback become successful as long as he pulls the trigger. Give me an opportunity. And that's what lamar does he pulls the trigger. He gives those guys opportunities sometimes. They don't go as well of the times. They do the quarterbacks all countries till the damn ball to him don't worry about the separation he's going to give you an opportunity. Just let it go. i'll take justin herbert. I'm a sucker for arm talent. I think that is that wasn't has mahomes. And and rogers are different there. I put risers and their different over the one guy. I see where i'm like. Who could maybe be the third guy in that group for the first guy in the next group. I see herbert. Who's only played one year so he before even have to pay him. "doc rivers" Discussed on The Stephen A. Smith Show

"Three seven seven six outside of loan which quarterback starting your franchise with key said lamar jackson. Jay said cuyler murray. I said damn key. That's a good pick. Lamar jackson so make sure i wish i it. But i'm gonna take justin. Herbert didn't want to say this shawn watson but there's a lot going on with the show so make sure to mex- as you tell people this that you emphasize patrick mahomes. What should emphasize the outside of patrick. So please just understand. We're not saying patrick. Mahomes is available right. He's not other than mahomes other them homes because that's the unanimous choice. Yeah and. I'll take justice herbert because herbert's farther away from getting paid and he checks. Now with the andrea hopkins and you think about. Aj green christian kirk. Is this rondell more. The whole goal is to get the championship with that being said. I'm not gonna take aaron rodgers right now because eras it's like patch mahomes. But if i took the lamar's total package other night against the cassie chiefs and he accounted for two sixty seven air another bucket on the ground so whatever. That number is three hundred and fifty. Total yards of offense three touchdowns if i gave you that stat. Line to any of those other quarterbacks you take that and run with it the points the points however we get them they add up to a w but some people just don't like that they like different things and so it's not like that at the end of the game what they scored twenty eight points but two of those touchdown on the ground. I put risers and they're different over the one guy. I see where i'm like. Who could maybe be the third guy in that group for the first guy in the next group. I see herbert. Who's only played one year so he before even have to pay him. He's going to give you a lot of production. You can put a team around him. I would take him but after this last weekend. Brian Windhorst ‘Highly Doubts’ Ben Simmons and 76ers Can Repair Their Relationship

"Let's get to the latest surrounding ben simmons and the sixers keep pompeii the philadelphia inquirer reports that people in simmons's camp are not inclined to help the sixers find a trade partner for him so given the public criticism from doc rivers after the playoffs and how his name was in the james harden trade talks last season march sign of the times reports that the cavs are one team. That's interested in him so brian is there a chance for simmons to repair his relationship in philly. And if not where do you think he could end up. I've been around too long to say that. There's never a chance of anything. But i would highly doubt it One of the messages. That ben has sent back towards philly. Is that. It's not his job to fix his trade value. It's his job to correct. This trade value raises trade value. That is not something that is on the menu for him and so with that out there. I don't think he's interested in coming in and trying to change the situation and one thing that i think is interesting is that his contract is structured in a way that he's going to get half of his money by october first sixteen and a half million of thirty three million come before he has to worry about getting find a single dime for a forty one of his game. So he's going to have a war chest that he can. Just sit this out. Now i agree the cavaliers and other teams that are really interested in trading for a guy with four years. Left on their contract would be interested. That's also why. You've heard a mike minnesota and even potentially a team like san antonio these are organizations that typically don't do well in free agency and so the idea of getting a star player under four year contract is very attractive but dens value is so low right now and the expectations of daryl morey on a trailer so high we just are not neutral zone for any If any team at this

Hawks Erase 26-Point Deficit to Beat Sixers in Game 5

"Semi finals. This sixes and hawks pivotal Game five. Philadelphia is where we go here. They were high Steppin monster mashing. 26 point lead at home. 26 point lead at home. And then it vanished into thin air. It went away. Where did it go? Why didn't they win? They had all the momentum. I keep hearing momentum's all that they had a whole uncle Mo on their side. They had this big lead Uncle Mo in Brooklyn. They had the big lead, and they gave it all the way. Presto! Oh, Abracadabra, said Trae Young 39 points, but it was other guys. It was Mo Chicken Chicken Wing Williams there The honey Pepper Chicken wings. They're knocking down a bunch of big shots. Danilo Gallinari made some plays as well for the Atlanta Hawks. They stormed back all the way back from 26 point down and they beat the Sixers. They beat the Sixers. They took their lunch money 19216. And so it is Atlanta's NBA team, the Hawks who have a 3 to 2 in the Eastern Conference semis, They are now one win away from punching their ticket to the coverage files. And finally, things are lining up for Nate McMillan, the much maligned Nate McMillan. The coach in Atlanta. You look around. You know. Nate McMillan great regular season coach seems over achieved in the playoffs didn't work out well, finally met his equal in a doc Rivers here in the second round. He did beat the Knicks, but that was the next just happy to be in the playoffs. That kind of thing. But my goodness. One win away from punching their ticket. The Atlanta Hawks One man band with Trey Young and they are a win away and all those people that if if Atlanta finishes this, and it's still Points. You still see a scenario? They don't but it with Doc Rivers? Oh, my God. How do you not if you're Atlanta win this thing in in six games, but The Hawks comeback was historic. It's one of the top three comebacks in NBA postseason history.

How Joel Embiid Became An MVP Contender

"Also derek. Last season ended in pretty disappointing. Fashion for philadelphia. That'll do it. The boston celtics move on by defeating the seventy sixers. Four games to nothing. The first ever went wrong in that first round against boston for embiid and the sixers. I think a bunch of things went wrong. First of all. You can't start without saying this. Ben simmons zone. Outside of that sort of what went wrong was wrong with the sixers all year. The team didn't fit well yet. Al horford and josh richardson. Who were tough it's around a post op center and embiid. Richardson shooting for three ended out. They didn't have a real reliable second often times during the series alec. Burks was your secondary options on offense recipe. Brad stevens and the celtics and bead romeo leg for the rookie thinking about double vacates birds. Who can't make them pay. So there is a lot of mistakes that were made roster building and there were missing. Simmons isn't it was a tough series for sure. Can you remind us what the narrative was after that first round exits surrounding joel embiid and his performance. Yeah it was fascinating because on one hand when they came back into the bubble they had spent pretty much those months in between working with you all to get better at handling dull teams and it came out in the bubble in orlando during the seeding games and some of that had started to show and he looked like he was handling double teams better and he came out against the celtics. And i think that he converted back a little bit in terms of struggling with the double team and bead backing down ties gordon hayward on the help and they come up with the steel but he was dominant as an individual score. That was locked off and be. Did it again. Safe focused joel. Fb five of seven. Give him thirteen of his team's thirty one. We'll lifesaver on that. So i think a lot of people looked at you made steps. He did most of what he could do individually. He just didn't have enough help around him. Well that disappointing end to a long season led to a number of changes within the sixers organization. Can you take us through. Some of the moves that philly made in the off season and how they related to unlocking the better performances from joel. Embiid is off the front office. Obviously brought daryl morey To work above. Elton brand and then they brought in doc rivers replace brett brown and then you had some pretty key addition to traded al horford for essentially danny green. And then josh. Richardson for steph curry. And i think those two editions have been pretty big with joel. Because i think if you look either trade you'd say the sixers got the lesser talent but the fit and just having to players in curry and green. Who the other team can't leave has been huge for. Joel shoe autom- double wall and pass. And you miss accomplish you. Miss a lot of shots You just straightening and then you start thinking of all you gotta do everything by yourself. 'cause everybody's not made the shots. Richardson horford they were not only inconsistent shooting. If they are unwilling shooters and they'd hesitate any office. Which is kinda come grinding down to a halt not only is curry making his shots and all these green making his permanent shots. But the ball is moving around the perimeter. Much quicker than it was. So there's more consequential doubling joel embiid than there ever has been monarch got a lot of assists but Ogle gets one us open. Invite double or triple team has a lot of hockey else's shake milton hinton to downtown ten points and ten minutes off the bench make no mistake that play which about drawing the double and then the ball moving east gotta be willing to be content. That the ball's the swing opposite and he's gonna creative for shots teams are now left with a real choice whereas before i think the whole strategy just send you all need help and disguise it a little bit senate in different locations but if you send it frequently enough you're going to confuse joel embiid or the sixers aren't going to have the talent or the players to make him pay. I think that's changed now.

Molly Fletcher On How To Negotiate With Confidence And Ask For What You Want

"Today's feature molly fletcher was named the female. Germ aguire on cnn. She represented some of the biggest names in sports and she's negotiated or five hundred million dollars in contracts. She negotiated contracts from hall of fame. Baseball players to golfers to professional coaches. Like doc rivers. she's in featured an espn forbes. And of course sports illustrated. She's the author of five bestselling books including her latest one. The energy clock and she's here today to make sure you feel confident. The knicks negotiate anything in business and for many of us. You're negotiating everyday all day. What i love about her approach is that it's simple. It's to the point so it's easy to implement so when wanna pass an awesome alibaba back to wrap up today's episode and give my takeaways but for now tick away molly. Hi it's molly fletcher. Founder of game changer negotiation training and author a few bucks that one. I want to talk a little bit about today. A winners guide to negotiate him. I was a sports agent for almost twenty years and worked with some incredible hundreds of professional athletes coaches and broadcasters and so for almost two decades. I pretty much negotiated every day almost all day. And what is you know a pretty competitive environment like most of of our worlds. And so you know i. It's doing that for almost two decades. You begin to see a process that works. And i transitioned out of that business about ten years ago and now speak and write books and of course we have this training company game changer negotiation training. And and what. I've learned is that most people assume negotiation is really just reserved for certain jobs. Sports agents were lawyers are sales people or whatever but negotiation is increasingly. Part of everyone's job and and the reality is we must master the skill to be able to grow in business to be successful and continue to evolve in our own business careers. And you'll yes. You may or may not negotiate deals. But i would encourage you to sort of expand the thinking around the word negotiation and recognize that it's about negotiating resources and vendor contracts. It's about our time our energy. Who's on your team and not on your team. What projects you choose to take on or not take on you and then of course things. Yes like your package and the list goes on and on but to me. The opportunity to negotiate exists all day. You know it's all around us several opportunities every day irregardless of the roller regardless of the role that you're in so you know but but here's the problem. Most people aren't trained in negotiation and so they're laughed with kind of anecdotes and gut feelings to guide them through the negotiation process. And you know as a result. I think people lack confidence and leave negotiations feeling frustrated because maybe they didn't get what they want and what i wanna do is walk through the some of the mistakes that i often see. I'm gonna give you guys three today. Some of the most common mistakes. I see people make and and really what to do instead. I have a list of about five if you go to five negotiation mistakes dot com. There's there's more. But i'm breakdown three today so you know to me want number one is not knowing who you're negotiating with not knowing who you're negotiating with. Most people think and spend a lot of time thinking about how they show up and what matters most to them and not enough time worried about how the other side shows up and what matters most to to the other side and so you know i'll give you an example. I negotiated for decades with a general manager. And every time we did he was always really difficult to connect with he was just. It was tough. And i'm sure there are people listening that that have people in your life that you negotiate with it or tough to deal with it and this guy was that way and every time we'd have these conversations i just felt like we were missing each other and we were a little bit disconnected. And you know. In retrospect after doing the work that we do now and looking back what i realized as he came to the table kind of as a financial guy right. That was the way he showed up. He was only worried about the financials. All he cared about was what was his payroll. Look like right now and what he was going to have to pay my guy and what we were worried about. Ucs that matter tusk but matters even more at this stage in and this clients career in this athletes career was direction of the club. That you who who was going to be the manager of the club. I mean there was things like that that we were a little bit more worried about an and and so we kind of found ourselves disconnected particularly in this one particular negotiation that i remember so vividly and that was because he was showing up worried about one thing and we were showing up worried about another and and and when we can better prepare better understand what matters most to the person that we're negotiating with the more that we can drive connection and the truth is the more that we can connect the more that we can keep the conversation going at hopefully come to a resolution and what we've learned what we teach is that there's four styles negotiators. There's financial strategic logistical relational. So we all show up one of those four primary types all have a little bit of all of them but but no different than you didn't decide to be left or right handed. This is right or wrong. It's just maybe default sat up so you know the financial persons worried about money in the bottom line. The strategic is kind of worried about the long term benefits. The logistical worried really about terms and conditions. Right the relations worried about the people and so you probably can recognize in think. Yeah you know what. I'm i'm pretty much show up in one certain way and maybe spend some time thinking about some of the people that you most often negotiate with. And what what do you think. They're sort of common default mind says and so understanding how you show up in what your default if you will. Are you want one way or the other more one way or the other and then learning to listen for the things that matter. Most to the other person that can create Find kind of common ground inside of these conversations. Go back to what matters most to them but also be fully prepared to to navigate the conversation and adapt at times to drive connection based on the person you're negotiating with to me. The best negotiators are really curious problem solvers and they know who their negotiating with and they know what the other side values show spending time and energy getting clear on on how the other person shows how to adapt to drive connection. How you show up. Polygraphed dapitan dr connection. So i would encourage challenge to pull back and say you know what do you think your default setup as an and how you show up and then think about some of the people you negotiate with most commonly and how do they often show up negotiation mistake number. Two is not knowing what you want. I mean this crazy right but too. Many people go into negotiations without really being clear on what they want and the result is they ask for what they think they can get not for what they want and they end up with a deal. They didn't even want show. So we have to spend time and energy getting really really clear what we want. And you know your ass doesn't need to be a big issue. You consider everything that's on the table and and know what you would be happy getting in what you would be fine walking away from you. Ask for what you want. Not what you think you can get or what you what you think the other side will give and the only thing that i think is incredibly important you ask for what you want and given. Hopefully you've built a strong relationship in advance of your ask but is make your ask and then pause you know one of the mistakes people make because they they don't pause so ask for what you want and then sort of zip it right but the worst thing that that can happen is the other side says now but if you build a strong relationship it's okay they're not gonna walk away right. Think about no as maybe the start. Not the end of the negotiation if you go to gain changer. Three sixty dot com. We have a resource. There tab resource tab and there's a tool. They're called the e walk and it's not the star wars character but it's ewc and it stands for everything what we want whatever options and what are we willing to concede but you can go there. Download the tool. It's a deal preparation tool really and what will allow you to do. Is to get really clear on everything. That's in play. what do you want. What our actions. What are you willing to let go off.

"That's quite a be and it's interesting that he has another job is because the season started off last year with a bang when when he tweeted what he tweeted about Hong Kong and the NBA Rafeh cases when you had bay were lost a lot of money and. So you wonder how that was going to go over in the long run. Here's what I. There's a couple of components and you texted a pretty good one to me earlier that made me think and I. Forgot about this that he did work with Doc rivers when they're in Boston. Daryl more came up in the Celtics Organization. So I understand there's a relationship there, but the dynamic is going to be completely different now now, Darrow Maury is not the same Daryl Morey that was young in up in the Celtics Organization. Now, his got his chest puffed out and he's made big decisions over the last ten years. How Will Stan Van Gundy Fit With the Pelicans?

"Was a few weeks ago in the ringer NBA show that at the very tail end of the show I recall you saying. Keep an eye out for Stan van Gundy and New Orleans and since we last spoke That came to fruition Stan Van Gundy was hired by David Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans I think when this all started with the pelicans ouster of Alvin gentry. Through the. Face Tyler had a former relationship with David. Griffin, we talk about my Tony possibly because he had a former relationship via the Phoenix Suns with David Griffin but they do land on Stan van, Gundy as their next head coach when you saw that news come across the wire, would you think great I'm happy I think he could bring some accountability to the team in terms of how much they need it on the defensive end of the floor they were horrific. On defense this season in San Andy. Of course, infamously famously I'm not sure once said build an effing wall and that the Pelicans need to do and I look forward to see what he can do now that he's back in the NBA but by the way like he failed in Detroit because he was coach. Angie 'em now he's just a coach right and he was always a good coach. He was good basketball coach and it was one of those cautionary tales of. It is two different skill sets number one it also in many cases can be two different motivations right if I am if I am the general manager and the coach now let's say I make a poor signing or a poor usage of money will sometimes I may want to use that guy to prove that I was right about this guy right and I know that you Still get into that with with a front offices and coaches anyway, right in in everybody wants to be responsible everybody wants to be right about the move they made. But when you then you're not doing the scouting of every other team on a regular basis, I know you have scouts you're certainly not doing that with college, but it's just a very hard job to do twofold and. Another cautionary tale of taking that over I mean everybody wants that power but I think we've seen two of these guys. Now fact three of these guys. Now, all of which I think you would say were subpar to very below average in that role but. We respect them as guys that are on the sidelines as basketball coaches. That is their expertise in that is doc rivers who took on that role Tom Thibodeau who took on that role and Stan Van Gundy who took on that role and yet got hired as coaches though it didn't go well at their last stops. I mean doc better than the other two but we thought. Hires because these guys are good basketball coaches who were miscast trying to run everything for sure absolutely and ultimately it's another good opportunity for him when New Orleans area there even though they have Zion, they have ingram granted these a restricted free agent. He'll likely back matched any offer sheet or whatever This is still sort of A. Team right now that can go in many different directions depending on how David Griffin wants to build it out and I look forward to seeing the ways in which Van Gundy, Utilize Zion and the ways in which he tries to get him going off because remember you know before all the three point shooting, we've seen the last ten years or so that has. Exploded with the warriors and the rockets and all these teams shooting lot of threes, the magic, Dwight Howard at center and four shooters around him in the late two thousands with anti head coach and they went to a finals. We're going to be lost to Kobe and the Lakers The had some good run they some really strong teams and in with Williamson. With the New Orleans Pelicans, I know they want to add another they don't want to go like all small Wall. With Zion at the five all the time it's it's just went to work but I, think van Gundy's pasts and what he could do now with this roster, it's kind of exciting to think about the possibilities with the different ways in which they can use ion but most importantly though and again, this is like with all the coaching hires we talk about I am more interested in the personnel changes who they draft, who do they try to trade for? Who Do they try to sign I am WHO's coaching the team, but you know I'm excited to see if they're able to get. Zion, going and creative ways that they weren't able to do as much during the season despite his success he posted up a lot man I. WanNa see some more pick and roll with Zion I wanNA see some more creativity with him, handling the ball and running pick and roll, and that will largely come from other personnel changes that come to the roster that allow that to happen. But Hey, man SVG had success with some different types of teams in the past and I look forward to seeing what he can do here with him, and that team has a good roster they under performed badly. Made sometimes teams underperformed because you look at their roster and you go man aol have the goods like that team underperformed I. Think so too. I think of course it I mean look I mean Lonzo I think Lonzo hit one shot in the bubble well, even though they're young that defense was bad even though they had good individual defenders, they've jrue holiday one of the best perimeter guard defenders, Ingraham and Lonzo. They were good defenders of the Lakers. They were the last two years. They were good. They were not good defenders last season with New Orleans. And Zion I, mean he was horrific. He was so bad on defense. It was it was really sad to watch. This is the guy who is blocking three point shots closing out from the opposite side of the paint at Duke just a year prior, which is why people wonder how much of it was fatigue coming back but season how much of it was the injury limiting him how much of it was effort I? Don't know I don't know what it was but regardless. He stunk on defense, and all of this needs to change next season for this team to be anything that have any chance of actually getting into the playoffs it can't be all

Doc Rivers was set to take break, says he 'couldn't turn down' opportunity to coach Philadelphia 76ers

"A week after Doc rivers in the clippers parted ways the sixers introduced rivers as their new head coach yesterday docks that he wasn't willing to coach just anyone but the talent and Philly made it a tough opportunity to turn down. That was gonNA coach anybody I can tell you that I was ready to take a break and. It just depends on the team that was available, and if I thought that team in my opinion was ready to win. That excited me and when you look at these players as young players and their potential. The fact that they've had. So much success in some ways at the age is that they are already. And where I believe they can go for me is is a job you just couldn't turn down. and. That's why I'm here. Certainly a loaded roster Zach Thomas still here with us with Steven you're up first at the end of the day, which is the tougher Doda to coach. Do you think it's PG thirteen and? Or would you go in beat and Simmons for dot? To to me, it's a Koala MPG. It's a tough. It's a tough situation because of where they are in their careers. Your I if you are a wild linnet, you're a two-time champion, the two time NBA Finals MVP portly. You're a bit indifferent as a personality. You're very businesslike approach. You go out doing what you need to do as it pertains to doing your jobs your job but in terms of galvanizing the troops around you, that's not Hawaii. Limit is you search around you talk around NBA circles that's what you consistently here in the case of. Paul George Obviously Paul Georgia's one of the more talented you know two way players in the NBA. He's a star, but unfortunately in his postseason career particularly, this postseason that was not the case and if your doc rivers and you walked into that situation, you got guys the veterans they're established stars they've got set in their ways. They believe there's a certain way to do things and what have you, and as a result, it ended up being an incredible challenge particularly when you consider what doc rivers had to absorb once Leonard Arrive Kawhi Leonard Arrive. At once Paul George Wounded Forces the clippers to trade to form in order to acquire Paul George because that's the person that he wanted to play. He wanted to play with he was GonNa practice what he felt necessary use GonNa take games off in terms of game you know load management when he wanted to he was gonNA play when he wanted to during the regular season of course, always available during the players but all of these things assist to what makes life difficult for coach particularly when you have ownership making these kind of investments that's problematic in the case of New Philadelphia Yes embiid, and Ben Simmons are young. And you gotTa get a Ben Simmons to shoot the boy only attempted seven three point the entire season last year Joel embiid attempted one, hundred, seventy two. So one guy needs to get the pulse more and stop having this big backside on a on the perimeter and the other guy needs to develop a perimeter shot. So he could be much more of a formative formidable threat, but they both incredibly young they both got a lot of promise and a lot of future. Ahead of them and they able, you know they're trainable to some degree as opposed to be definitively set in their ways because they don't have any definitive set ways that has really really worked for them and I think that's the difference. That's why I'd say it's it's tougher to coach. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George at this stage particularly for Doc rivers and what he had to deal with last year with the clippers then it would be for him to coach Embiid. EMBIID. And Ben Simmons.

Boston - Patriots-Chiefs Week 4 Preview

"We are joined now by sports NFL analyst Michael Vick Michael What. Do you give camp in the Patriots against the chiefs this weekend Got A shot. So always a fifty, fifty chance to anything can happen in. The New England patriots could be the first thing that upset the city chiefs this season but a couple things are gonNA have to happen. The defense is going to have to come to play, and unfortunately for the past, there's only one Stefan. Gilmore. On a fail the other corner nefer right side opposite again was not step up tremendously and try to somehow someway lock down the trio receivers. The Kansas City chiefs has that. Pretty much ran right though on Baltimore Ravens last week in the Baltimore Ravens headed great secondary and I watched them go up and down the field with ease and. It was because of the speed that they possessed. Throughout combinations and the play call them angry they made that game so difficult. But in terms in their pages, ball control is going to be essential. Whether this cam running back back admitted, they're going to have to control the clock, keep the chiefs off the feel as much as they can and try to score as many points as they can. But I think the biggest Kansas game is just winning the game time possession a not length touch Rome's get out and be as dangerous the threat he's GonNa be because you can't stop Patrick you can only hope to contain them. Anger going to let him loose. In as as a team, you've really gotta find their rhythm early if you donate New England. Patriots said, I think that's GONNA be in the run game they have to control the clock down to control the town possession in keep Patrick mahomes on Saturday next avery.

There was never <Speech_Male> an excuse <Speech_Male> that you couldn't win that <Speech_Male> particular night <Speech_Male> and I <Speech_Male> think that's what <Speech_Male> that he's bringing. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Obviously they've got <Speech_Male> upgrade roster. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> because. They just <Speech_Male> you know they just need to get better <Speech_Music_Male> talent <Speech_Music_Male> but I I am <Speech_Male> confident that <Speech_Male> whatever <Speech_Male> the roster is <Speech_Male> that roster will <Speech_Male> reach its potential <Speech_Male> and win more <Speech_Male> games than you expected <Speech_Male> because because <Speech_Male> he just he holds <Speech_Male> everybody <SpeakerChange> accountable <Speech_Male> including themselves. <Speech_Male> I <Speech_Male> remember <Speech_Male> and tips confirm this <Speech_Male> to me when asked him years <Speech_Male> later but his <Speech_Male> the first season <Speech_Male> he was out of the <Speech_Male> game in Chicago <Speech_Male> when he got let go <Speech_Male> he went <Speech_Male> back and he watched <Speech_Male> every single <Speech_Male> game. He's ever coached <Speech_Male> like that <Speech_Male> was how we spent his next <Speech_Male> year just <Speech_Male> sitting in I think <Speech_Male> it was like the Waldorf ever <Speech_Male> wasn't Chicago <Speech_Male> just watching <Speech_Male> every single <Speech_Male> game back. It's <Speech_Male> that kind of those <Speech_Male> basketball minds <Speech_Male> Mike and he's he's <Speech_Male> he's <SpeakerChange> up there he's an <Speech_Male> intense one that's for sure. <Speech_Male> We <Speech_Male> always talk about <Speech_Male> players <Speech_Male> coming back the next <Speech_Male> year with <Speech_Male> something new to the game <Speech_Male> and how they improve. <Speech_Male> I I don't <Speech_Male> think that we give enough <Speech_Male> credit. The coaches <Speech_Male> do that to <Speech_Male> you know they spend their <Speech_Male> off seasons <Speech_Male> they're not working <Speech_Male> on their jumper or their <Speech_Male> handle they're <Speech_Male> working on their their <Speech_Male> defensive schemes <Speech_Male> they're working on their <Speech_Male> motivation skills. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> And they <Speech_Male> improved and <Speech_Male> I think every great <Speech_Male> coach. That's a big <Speech_Male> thing as they come back <Speech_Male> better or they learned <Speech_Male> from a situation <Speech_Male> what they didn't do well <Speech_Male> in a certain city <Speech_Male> when they go to a New Jersey <Speech_Male> in. <Speech_Male> I think he's been one <Speech_Male> like that <SpeakerChange> throughout his <Speech_Male> career. "Bio has to play like conference finals out of bio like he has got to be great for the heat to have a chance. I think sports is GONNA throw some some of those Jackie defenses that we've seen the best at the heat I think you'll see some zone in that series try to make those those. Those Lakers shooters come up. Big. To me a big match up to watch out of by overseas ad I. Think they'll both matched up with each other for significant portions of the series and how that matchup goes is going to be huge because you can't just get just run over and the way Davis did out of bio two games of the series. Yeah I agree. I the only concern I'd have on the heat though is I don't Wanna bio. On a D. so much that he ends up in foul trouble because eighties bigger stronger and audubon phenomenal defender and I think he's he's got the ability to bother him without fouling. But if he's on him every minute that they're both in the game I, I'd be worried I. Don't I don't want Bam taken out of rhythm or having to play cautiously he's important as a role man for them to an as a score. Not Primary score but like they they they score they score by committee right like Jimmy could drop forty on a given night and hero might go off dragging Mike go off. But for the most part, they're a score by committee kind of team in Audubon is part of that. So I I would be a little concerned about. Having him foul trouble if he's got too much eighty responsibility I wonder if you dust off, you know Meyers Leonard to go like Bang around on him for a while and spend some fouls and try to wear them out. Kelly Olympic whoever just? Throwing sacrificial lambs out there you. You really are throwing sacrificial lambs because I meyers. Leonard I think bars. Let it. We starting for that team. During the regular season matchups, don't recall him being effective. In. He'd be effective I. You know. What are you? What are you looking for? Something like that guy just a body. Meyers Leonard Myers lead of when the Lakers beat the heat by fifty in the first game meyers. Leonard. Played twelve. Minutes. As a starter Kelly lennick played thirty. "Teams feel good good players Will WanNa pick them, and they don't need the Max guys. Now they've got two studs to build around they just need to high level role players who think, yeah, I wanNA, hitch my wagon there because I think they've got a chance to make a runner too. Yeah I agree with you I I think they get it through the draft I think that's where teams find these guys that cheap labor you're talking about. And those are the guys propelled them to the next level like where were the raptors be without Passi calm like they wouldn't have what championship last year when Kawai slowed down a little bit in the finals Siaka stepped up made huge place especially in that that clincher. So. adding. This draft coming up Boston is huge. Let me finish with this final start on Wednesday. Not to over simplify it but do you have Something, you're you're looking for this series that could tilt it one way or the other. Some variable matchup how a team plays? What are you looking for is the series begins I'm most curious about whether anybody on the Lakers not named. Lebron. Anthony Davis will do something of note. That has been question for them since day one that you know look there in the finals. So credited supporting cast they have. Their their despite anything that those. In the PUNDITRY. Would have would have wondered about like there's no one guy that leaps out as being like, okay. That's the guy of Lebron's having enough night, and that's the thing like the heat are really good defensive team they have the kind of personnel to. To Make Lebron inefficient potentially, I'm not predicting that will happen but look etc has done it before granted it's been a few years but they have Andre gala they've got Jae crowder they've got Jimmy Butler they've got Bam out of bioactive. "He's still got an and sometimes just remembering the estimates that he still has to evolve into and when you don't have that kind of focal point, it makes it harder for every everybody else and plus you know look. They were missing Gordon Hayward for large along stretch that got him back toward the end Kemba Walker who who knows how bad that knee was all season. And they were also trying to bounce when they had of for all four of those guys. Okay. We got four guys who are all great with the ball in their hands, which is a luxury, but it also can sometimes create some some bumpiness so. What was the statue throughout three times in four years they've lost in? Conference finals in the conference finals. You could argue that a couple of times they shouldn't have even been there. And this team has changed dramatically in course of that four year run. This is not the same team that was losing in those previous ones and at that time those were like Oh. Wow I can't even believe they're here. Yes I do think on paper they had more talent especially offensive talent than the heat but. Debts discounting the power and influence of somebody Jimmy. Butler on your roster. Jimmy Butler. Around him Jimmy Butler drives everything around him. And the Celtics Jason Tatum someday become that guy but he's twenty two jimmy thirty he's just not there yet. I just. They could have won the series they had the talent to win this series. It's not it's not I, don't even consider it an upset I didn't consider it an upset necessarily that the heat beat the bucks except in the most technical terms of you know well, you look at the records and their seating. But while everyone respects dock and everyone likes dock and everyone's going to focus on the three one series loss third the most the only coach ever with more than one. . Here's I. . Think the biggest. . Indictment on Doc rivers, , not just this year but his with the clippers. . And people aren't going to believe this but I promise it's true. . Frank Vogel has won as many playoff series with the Lakers as doc rivers one with the clippers. . Thing about that. . So it wasn't just one year of underachieving, , it was a better part of a decade of underachieving. . and. . So the question is, , will the clippers get a better coach I don't know if they will. . Tie lose going to be the obvious thing. . We can talk more about that later but Jonah the real reason they did this in my opinion is because they were stuck like the brandon they don't have a good secondary pitch here they I know you would said, , keep collide dock and Paul George and blow the rest of the team. . I don't know if the rest of the team has that much value I think the only real shake-up you could do is trade Paul George whose values the lowest it's ever been or fire the coach I don't know that they had another way to shake the snow Globe Brandon. . So I think they made the changer not for the sake of change, , but because they had to change something and this was almost the only move they could do. .

"Him when you had him on you coming. It was tight because he was on his way out of the bubble. But I should have asked, But I wonder. Is he going to be a name? And you had a stat? What's that statue had about Doc Rivers in game 70? God do you have that is in your phones. I texted it to myself so that I didn't forget this stat because I don't think anyone has that today. Especially here. Hey, You got to hear this stat from Arash Markazi. This is Doc Rivers, Doc Rivers has lost Eight times in Game seven as a coach, eight. No other coach. All time has more than five. I mean, that's not a good man. I mean, you appreciate you appreciate getting there, right? You appreciate the effort, but you gotta knock that down now. Let's just be fair right about Chicago's Let me give you one more that Doc Rivers has now lost six. Siri's after being up 32 and three after he was up 31. It's not good. That's really brutal. That's really brutal. And you think about that Denver team you know the Clippers and more talented than that, But why did they throw out? Look down? Let's let's be the first show to say this. If LeBron James shot less than 35% and fourth quarters in Big games, we would not be one of our leads today, destroying him. But why Leonard let down? I don't know if he's tired. I don't know if if he is disenchanted with the team, but Kawai Leonard and Paul George, both of those guys shooting less than 35% in latent games, that's not going to get it done. You know how bad they were in that game. In the game seven when you really need to be I mean, if it's LeBron James, that is breaking news across the country that LeBron let down. But because it's why he's quiet. He's forgiven. Correct. He never says anything. That's not. I mean, that's not what the Clippers signed up for. They have a financial commitment by being in Inglewood, California. They're goingto like refurbished the forum or and have their own place. So they want to show what the Lakers anymore correct. So they're trying to have their identity and I appreciate Balmer has an owner. Doc Rivers. That number that you gave me this morning. Crazy. I mean, so So besides having Paul Pierce kg and Ray Allen, the one champion one title, you should have more absolutely. What else is he accomplished again? He was a wonderfully good person to have in your organization. He's a great dude. What all has he accomplished that you go off. He hits the street, the Bulls out to be all over that. That's the thing. Would you want him as a coach for the Bulls potentially available are into it. You just did was gave the numbers. So what do you think? You mean Doc Rivers class guy class Got Chicago guy a beloved around league. But the thing is that is that a bee to see coach Is that a guy who can get to a certain level and you can't get over the hump like you mentioned those three Hall of Famers outside of that a lot of wins in the regular season out of Division championships. Get to a certain level but can't get over the hump. I would tell you that if he hit the street, I would probably hire him. More than Billy Donovan. Donovan's the hot name for you right now, and I get that because to me out of all the guys are available. There's a lot of young coaches they're trying to learn. There's still a lot of openings around lead to some Houston's looking Indy. In the Chicago so there's some openings. Nick's draw quickly and got Thibodeau so no Dan Tony for you, I say yesterday, Lee Donovan. I'm an active person guy. You like some of the young guys to like young Silas. You like, you know, like, Like, you know, I like Unseld. Silas. Too good. Very good candidate Dan Craig in Miami is one of the best in the league. Back when I said Tom Thibodeau yesterday, kid Miami goes, He's a stud. He's phenomenal. That guy. Billy Donovan, Ime Udoka. West on cell. Silas. That's a great list. Great list. You can booze on there 23 by the end of the week, and all depends on what Ryan's dork wants to do financially to correct. I think it's worth it to be able to get a veteran coach. Teo Cultivate these this young town for the Bulls. It may look like it's downtown Columbus outside the window. Yes, there's no one's here. This is Chicago. Of a major market. Big name guy, Joe Maddon to the Cubs if one of those guys becomes available You need to be all over. And see if it fits. Now again. I'm not a Mike D'Antoni guy because I don't like his style, right? Doc Rivers would help you attract free agents. No question about it. Billy Donovan would help you attract free agents. No question about it. And then you've got some really good young players really good. You are young coaches Silas Unseld, So we'll see where it all goes shot or no shot is coming up. Next. Thiss.
