Yes, this sign can be tea bag, do you trade trade lynch? Do you sign Brock purdy? What do you do? Here's what I do. I'm looking in the crystal ball right here, and I see Brock purdy winning the Super Bowl, and I see him becoming one of the biggest superstars in the history of the National Football League because of it. And I see the San Francisco forty-niners having Brock purdy start the next season with Jimmy G elsewhere and Trey Lance backing him up. Oh, wow. Wow. That's what I'm seeing in the sea all that. I have a crystal ball. If Brock purdy wins his Super Bowl, what are they gonna do? Say thanks to your back, you're back as the backup, and we're gonna go with he'll become the Mike white to Trey Lance's Zach Wilson. A 1 million %. Are you kidding me? What if I'm looking for Nick Foles to Carson? I'm looking in the crystal ball, and I'm seeing Mike white winning the Super Bowl for the New York Jets this year. Do I see Zach Wilson starting for the next year? No, I see me passed out drunk on the floor. That's what I see. Take you back to a year ago when I said, what if Jimmy Garoppolo wins a Super Bowl for the forty-niners and you said they would say thanks, Jimmy. It's Trey Lance's team. Did I say that? "Metcalf, keeping it real as he always does here on the rich eisen show. Let's talk a little off the field. Last time we spoke, we were talking about acting. I don't know how have you been able to advance anything on that front at all for you? I'm still taking acting classes. I got to act in practice tonight. The practice. And just waiting until the off season hit so I can get back on the ground running and see if I can land a few more roles, there's also something that something's definitely in the works for sure. I love that. So what is an acting class look like? Are you taking with others? Is it a private lesson? I mean, there's just DK Metcalf strolls into an acting class in Seattle and the greatest Seattle area. Me and my coach on Zoom is one on one. She basically sends me a script and I have to read through it and build out a character and build out his backstory. And just basically ends up a big last scene that I have to read with emotions going high and low from anger, the happiness to him finding themselves. So I mean, it's a lot of working through emotions and trying to find the right tone to use and it's been fun because I like research and I like building things out from scratch. So yeah, it's been just a fun thing outside of football just keep me busy and just to keep working to improve all. I love it. That's great. So you do zooms that and then you'll take care of against Carolina. So you've been on playoff teams before and you've got a huge Thursday night or just after this one as well against San Francisco where you can take a nice step towards winning this division and I'm sure you've seen there on their third string quarterback. How is that landed in your locker room? I know you take it one at a time, but that one's right around the corner for you. Yeah, like you said man, we haven't looked too far past the Carolina panties because they have a very good defense and they're a team that plays real hard. So we're not looking past them, but if we can talk Monday after the Thursday night game, I got you. Okay. The Sunday game, but for sure, I haven't paid in too much attention to the 49 as well. Okay, DK Metcalf. Well, I've always appreciate you taking the time staying after practice to chat with the program. It was great to see you in Munich. How great was that environment that game? "I talked to him at least once a week. Once a week, if you don't mind me prime, the nature of the conversation, what do you guys talk about? I mean, it's pretty much just checking in with each other and making sure both of us are doing fine mentally and he just tells me once a week, you don't have to prove anything to anybody you're already special. And me basically just saying the same thing to him is he's already validated. He's already won a plethora of games and he's already won a Super Bowl already been all pro. So he doesn't have anything to prove to anybody just go out there and be rough. So we just try to reiterate that to each other once a week. I got to be honest with you, DK. I always am. The knives are out for him. I mean, the criticism, his way, and I understand there's one can criticize what you see on film all 22 X's and O's, but somebody's got the knives out for him saying that half his birthday party is empty and people aren't coming and his defensive one of his defensive teammates appear to be barking at him. What do you think is happening? Do you guys talk about that? What do you think is happening? I try to stay away from all the negativity surrounding them because I don't know him for being a negative person or being in any negative light. He's been a very inspirational person to me and been a big brother to me and took me under his wing. So I have numbers for him and I know he's going to turn it around. So I'm not even going to speak negativity into the situation or anything negative surrounding him because I know what type of person he is and what type of quarterback he is and he's going to overcome it and adversities nevertheless last long around him. So I'm looking forward for him to turn to that. What was it like seeing Bobby Wagner last week too but DK? What was that like? That was good. That was a fun game because we start barking at each other a little bit during the third quarter and turned the game up a little bit, but that was a fun game just to play against Bobby and be on the other side of it except for Jeff and practice. Yeah, you didn't wave for him to come along, did you? I didn't see that. No. Waiting for him to come over, but we had a couple of run plays where I had to go block him and I tried to let him know I was there a little bit. Okay. Okay. How do you take that? He didn't say that to me. I turned my back and ran away. It was for you to run it there for y'all. Oh my gosh. All right, DK, I got to bring this up since we haven't spoken the cart the cart what I'm talking about the cart. My cart. Yeah. What happened? "Saw it. Walk me through that one, DK. Walk me through that one. I know in the past year I would line up on his side and then motion away. So I just tried to give him a heads up like, I'm going over here in case you wanted to come over here and join me. I wanted him to follow me the whole game. Right, and how did he take that wave? How do you take that? He threw his hands on like, oh, you traveling again, you motion in the way again, but you know, I really didn't care. Just as long as he knew how I was feeling. Did he laugh at that at some point or no, not really? He didn't. No, I don't think you laugh. I don't think he took that as a joke. Was that a plan thing or are you just like, that just came out of you? Just like, hey, come on. In the moment, like I love it. I heard the play and I knew I would go motion away. So I knew as soon as Gino sent in motion, that's what I was that's how I felt. Like, come on, I'm on your ass all day. That's basically how I felt. That is, I don't think I've ever seen that. I don't think is that the first time you've ever done that. How about that? Okay. Okay. Walk me through the game winner too. The game winner for you. Last one. Yes, sir. What happened? You know, Gino Shane, the O line, everybody that was in that drive up, got us down to the 8 yard line. And that was a well executed on Shane's part on everybody else's part. That was Anna offense. I know marquise and Tyler called big passes to get down there out of line was blocking the AFL. And so Shane called a boot and he gave me alpha leverage. So I just took the inside route. Fought him off a little bit and then just threw my hand up because I wanted the ball. And touchdown. And obviously that's a dove that you needed. What's your relationship? I know what your relationship is. Let me rephrase that. You and Gino. And how you've been able to connect this year. It's not obviously your first rodeo. He's been on the team. But this is a big year for him. And he has been big this year. What have you seen from him? And you. I mean, I've seen everything translate from the practice field to the game field and to how he lives his life. He looks at this as a second opportunity, you know, to write his own story. And he's doing it exceptionally well with everybody supporting him around the building from coaches to staff members to players. And it's just a fun to watch because I know my rookie year he got here at the same time I did and just to see the growth that he's had learning from Russ learning some shoddy learning from Shane and every everybody else in the end of his own spice to the game. I remember the day, I remember when you had Chris law and you swapped out and then TJ slid in seamlessly. Everything kept running because they understood how you wanted it. "This. Hello is the rich eisen show. Number three of the rich eisen show is on the air Buda baker was on an hour number one. We're about to have DK Metcalf on the program. I separated the two of them out of respect. If you recall the two, once upon a time were involved in a very famous play. Man, poor Buddha. And I mean, that's lived forever. Remember Patrick Peterson. He came back so fast. Yes, he is. Yes, he is. And I saw him last time I saw him was in Munich. I was heading to the. Bayern Munich one would say a conference area. There was a bunch of offices there and they put a conference room off to the side for the NFL network crew to be placed and we spoke to Geno and Pete Carroll and what have you. But coming off the practice field, I was walking towards that area, DK Metcalf came off the practice field. We strolled. And had a nice chit chat, a little small talk, small talk. I was very tall, so I guess tall talk. I was the small talk. He was the tall talk. And couldn't have been nicer. And you're one of those people too. You're a little bigger than people think. Oh, really? Am I one of those guys? Yeah. I mean, you're a full 6 feet. Yeah. And I don't think people give you credit for that. I think people think you're in like that 5, 8. You know why? They only see my torso up. Pretty much. Yeah. So you don't know. I don't know. On this program, very rarely will you see me full body, for instance. I'm half a man. The only time that you see you've seen the lower half is when I put my birkenstocks up on the table. I want to see that. Not a great moment. By the way, we see stand on disagree. An ACL fabrizo would average ten months to return, so he'd have an excellent chance to be ready for week one of next year. Performance does tend to lag behind. We have seen recently sake one Barkley last year, have an entire off year after the ACL. I wouldn't necessarily expect the same from Reese hall, but it would be likely week 6 to 8 before you're looking at his performance recovering. Then you have DK Metcalf, his video of the injury was actually concerning for an ACL as well. His knee bent inwards internally rotated, and then you see a little bit of a jerk to the knee. And we do have negative x-rays, but that doesn't really tell us much. This is something diagnosed on MRI, which will very likely happen on Monday. Hopefully, the video lies, but that's going to be the concern going forward for Metcalf. Then we have David in, he was seen after the game in a walking boot and on crutches. The combination suggests a high ankle sprain, and usually these average about two to four weeks. They do vary a little bit based on severity, and he'll get an MRI Monday to probably assess that. "How do you think Gino and luck are going to perform in those shit conditions? Where you are forced on third and fourth down to have long distances. To have a pass blocking unit that's probably not going to fare a ton better than last year. And yes, the talent's better because you upgrade it through the draft. But there's still rookies. So I just don't. And then you're going to have this very heavy run oriented offense on early downs and you're facing a top ten schedule. I don't see this going very well for the Seattle offense. Then you have Tyler Lockett. Once a week, they're fielding a call for Tyler Lockett. There's a lot of teams right now that are missing a weapon that we think can be potential contenders. As Tyler Lockett going to be there for all 17 games, I think if we were to create odds on that, you'd have to favor the no. You know, I'm honestly surprised he's still there to your point. I mean, we figured that there was a chance DK Metcalf could be moved, but they obviously made a long-term commitment as DK amongst other wide receivers secured his bag. So you figured that was a way to basically put the writing on the wall and say Tyler Lockett, you're now expendable as we go through the rebuild, but hey, like you said, and DK's agent was aggressive. Super aggressive. Had to get the deal done now or trade me because you know why? They understood who's going to be throwing to them the next couple of years, and that was going to tank as tank as dollars. Not going to be getting the ball on anything more than wide receiver screens or having to go up there and collect jump balls, getting facing double coverage against subpar quarterback play. So those guys can at least throw it deep down the field. So from DK's perspective, they're going to be probably in some negative scripts, hopefully you throw a little bit more. And those quarterbacks have decent enough arms to push down field. But yeah, a lot of jump balls. It's going to be different than catching balls from Russell Wilson. During the Seahawks heyday and then when they were at the peak of NFC dominance so much if that was predicated on what they could do defensively. That couldn't be further from the case when you look at the current construct of what the Seahawks will bring to the table this season. And inability to generate pressure has led to a miserable past defense over the last three seasons where they're giving up more than 270 yards per game. I mean, the numbers, they're staggering pain. 28th in yards per game allowed 18th in takeaways. They can't generate pressure up front the sack numbers aren't there. I don't even know where you look to start for Seattle to highlight some strengths. So we're not complete pessimists about what this stop unit will look like week in week out this fall. What did you make of drew locks performance the other night? DK. You know, pretty good for, you know, what the offense has asked of both of them, this off season and then going into the pre season. I think it's going to be a fun stretch coming up here so I'm just excited to see who's going to win the job and so we can get to work this season. Okay, so I guess that was my next question is how do you, as somebody whose job it is to receive approach a quarterback competition, DK Metcalf. Oh, I sit back and let the guys work because I'm not about to throw my opinions out there or any of that. But I just go to practice and try to build a bond in a relationship and encourage both of them just so they can be the best that they could be on the field when we go out there. What was your, I guess let me just come straight through the front door. Did you think Russ was leaving? Was the writing on the wall? DK Metcalf? No, sir. I mean, I was surprised. I was a Gatorade shoot when I got the call. So I was just as surprised as everybody else. No, I didn't think him nor Bobby was leaving both of them were going to retire as seahawk, but something changed and his business, you know, at the end of the day. So just happy I got to play alongside of both of them. Did he give you a ring? Russell Wilson to say I'm out? At all? Yes, sir. He told me, we talked right before released to the public. Okay. So you knew that was coming. And then I guess Bobby told me that he learned through the media. So I guess he didn't know either that he was leaving. How did you feel on that night after Wagner and Russ were gone on the same day? 'cause, you know, I didn't expect them to leave. So soon, you know, and I've only got three years to play with both of them, but just happy that I did and just the knowledge and the wisdom that they shared with me and all the memories that I made with both of them. They were just too amazing players on and off the field. So just like I said, man, just happy I got to play alongside of them. If DK goes, I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. So how close were you to potentially following suit and wanting to maybe not be in Seattle? He came back out. Of course there were doubts if I was going to be in Seattle or not, but at the end of the day, you know, I prayed about it and I thought about getting traded for like 30 seconds. Then I snapped out of it and it was like, no, I just can't leave you like that. So I mean, the city that drafted me just the team that believed in me from day one. So I can't just leave when things get tough or when things get hard. So, you know, just seeing this whole process through and just being here and just filming my role as a leader on this team, whether that be vocally or by example. What is the process right now? I guess, because the idea that you would sign there, I think gives Seattle fans some comfort that you see a plan in place that many in the media and maybe in amongst the 12s don't see. So what do you see DK Metcalf there? I mean, we lost Bobby and Russ, two great players, but there were still ten other people in the field with them at the same time. So I mean, yeah, it's a different makeup, but I don't see things changing that drastically. You know, we got to find the quarterback and then the defense, I think, has reloaded and is hungry than ever. So I mean, we just got to believe in ourselves and know what we have in that building on both sides of the ball that I think we could surprise a lot of people this year. So then for you to be paid as handsomely as you've been paid DK I remember you at the combine when there were questions about you coming out when you did whether you were making the right move. Certainly with your injury history. And I remember I believe you were FaceTiming with your mother that you got through the combine and you not only got through it and you crushed you. You beyond impressed everybody. I wonder what that moment was like when you put pen to paper for you. I mean, my mom and dad was right there, you know, when I signed I had a little FaceTime it was just like a sir relief, but you know, it's not, you know, everything that I wanted to accomplish in life. I mean, I still got a lot of work to do. I mean, I still have other goals and aspirations to reach, but just taking this milestone down my checklist is great. I know my financial adviser told me Joe mcclain told me a great quote. He was like in moments like this. You've been working so hard your whole life with your head down just lift up your head, take a moment, see where you are. Give yourself a pedal in the back and put your head down and just get back to work. And I guess it can't be lost on you or he as well that AJ Brown paid in the same off season as well. Your teammate. Predictions vs Reality NFC West, Seattle Seahawks
"I predicted the Seattle Seahawks to go 11:00 and 5 last year. I pretty much nailed it. They went 12 and for the only game I missed was the San Francisco 49ers. I could not predict that the $59 would have a bunch of injuries. I thought that the Seattle Seahawks and the 49ers would split their series each win one game against each other instead Seattle beat the 49ers in both games. So that's literally the one game it's kind of crazy. I was horribly wrong about the Cardinals the Rams the 49ers. I nailed Seattle. My prediction was right there for I'm actually not that interested in Seattle. Like I like I said, I'm actually way more fascinated when I get stuff horribly wrong. I said before the year that Seattle relies too heavily on Russell Wilson, they're starting quarterback 2000sq them from their problems and kind of ended up being true now, they brought in the receiver Phillip Dorsett. They brought in Phillip Dorsett from New England. I was curious to Phillip Dorsett kind of a breakout year and Go from a guy who was infuriating to watch a New England to maybe having a great season playing with Russell Wilson. Unfortunately Phillip Dorsett did not play a single game the poor guy hurt his foot in training camp and by November Phillip told I was getting surgery to remove bone spurs from his foot. I encourage you look up a bone spur does not look like a comfortable thing but credits yet. I Seattle try to get Russell Wilson some Playmakers. I thought we were set to not work out. Josh. Gordon did not work out. They brought in. You know Speedy Josh Gordon. He had a setback in recovery. Seattle had to end up cutting him so long so brought in Greg Olsen. They they got a veteran tight end Greg Olsen and I look I got a lot of respect for Greg Olsen. He's awesome. Last year Greg Olsen. However was underwhelming had 24 catches for 239 yards one touchdown played an only 11 games missed a couple of games with an injury. So in the end Greg Olsen retired, so Phillip Dorsett, Josh Gordon, Greg Olsen, like the move Seattle made to try to support Russell Wilson just didn't work out and that's not bad. But now the one thing that came out very very well for Seattle on offense was DK Metcalf. G came back up Seattle second-year receiver. Oh my gosh. This guy is a monster. He had 83 catches for 1303 yards 10 touchdowns. I love to see that DK Metcalf is a receiver that is just at the beginning of his eventual domination over the NFL. He already does dominate in some games. So he keeps getting better and better and he keep getting better and better the more we watch him. Now as I look back on Seattle season, one of the things that kind of sticks out to me that's very weird still is I just did not love their 2020 first-round picks Seattle is kind of known for having weird. First round draft picks. They drafted linebacker Jordan Brooks 27th overall. And he was her early on so Jordan books now, I will say I'm not going to trash on Jordan books by the end of the year. He made some plays with doing some good stuff like Jordan Brooks. Very good football player solid right desert looks like a first-round pick the end of the year. But here's what's weird to me is that when the Seattle Seahawks went to a nickel package meaning that you bring in an extra corner or defensive back onto the field to basically stop the past when they win to track a package which is happening more and more in the NFL because teams are throwing more and more than ever before. In a nickel package. Jordan Brooks is on the sidelines not playing maybe part of that is because they were he's a rookie. They're trying to light workload. I don't know but it's kind of weird to draft a first-round pick and then not have the guy on the field. All the time makes me wonder despite Jordan Brooks being a very solid football game. Could they not have got drafted somebody 27th overall last year that could have contributed even more to their team. Just a question. I'm asking cuz I looked at it. I still book how it's bit of an odd pick life. Even though Jordan Brooks can play it's like whack could they not have done something better or maybe more interesting than Jordan Brooks just me asking a question here. You can answer for yourself.
