Djokovic's Bid for Year's Grand Slam Ends Against Medvedev

"The grand slam dream another joke of it just turned to a nightmare after a straight sets loss to the U. S. open men's final lackluster Djokovic struggle from the very first game against the second state dental Medvedev and saw his hopes of a record twenty first major win and a calendar year slam taken away as a Russian pad to a six four six four six four victory the took two hours and fifteen minutes I do feel sorry for not because I I I I can't imagine what it feels I don't know this film but it definitely makes it sweeter the wear and tear of one five set and full force it matches on the way to the final obviously took its toll on the thirty four year old son it was made but its first major win I'm Graham like us

"I think he'll be a bit disappointed. The it could the h. Sach there was news that of i'm surprised it wasn't even a tie-break joe. I'm surprised at the set school. Linesmen anything but i'm not surprised at the end result because verbs still actually hasn't beaten a top ten player in assam. What is when he's not a change is going to need to if he will win. A grand slam. That is something that is going to need to change and there is still. It is still one of the best talked about stats. I think it. It grabs the. Men's singles in grandsons is the fact sashes various syllabi to the top ten player at grandson which is baffling but at the same time. When you see when you see his matches you know for example this one against your she sort of you can sort of understand it. And it's something that he's going to need to change. He is getting closer. I mean we gotta give him credit. He did take joke. Rich to fifth sat and the fact that he was able to win that full of one given you felt the momentum was waived jokers. She felt he was just gonna win in four comfortable in full comfortable in a comfortable for victory. That didn't happen so big. I think big credit that but you did just feel that once. He got to that fifth set. That's not really as dave actual coverage territory of right. I've got. I'm out here to make history and i'm not letting anyone get in my way and i do think the i think we see a lot of players. They are kind of pressured by history and the potential to to chase records. But i think certainly in novak djokovic case of vote labor the last man to complete the calendar slammed back nineteen. Sixty-nine was in the crowd as well. But i think the fact that he is aware of that. Obviously and i think he is motivated by thinking paralyzes him and in any sort of way on court and you just think that he is incredibly relaxed. Which i think is very impressive. And i think it takes someone of very strong character strong kind of mental desire to just kind of just continue much time and despite all of this going on about how tantalizingly close. It is with much way now. The fact that. I really didn't think we've really seen it kind of affected. His full yesterday have obviously been dips and he's been losing those. I sat but you wouldn't say he looks like a man who as sort of Restricted by the the nature of potentially what he is about to achieve absolately and we. We haven't been talking about enough light on our podcast. Probably because like there hasn't been any surprise israeli withdrawal kebich matches but is absolutely incredible. Like what he is on the cost of doing you know he's gonna have the mace grand slams of any person Well mayo player. I should say gosh andy. Murray would be having a field day of that faith. Paul like like you said. I mind since for labor nine hundred sixty nine a. It's just you know he's. It's been a long time coming but probably inevitable for the years that he would ever take rotor rafa and i think like overseas big fan but i totally appreciate name. Doing is is so historic for the sport. And i guess the status will well. We'll have to flee shift to him waiting to if you're going to get into the goat debate. But i think a lot of people would already probably give it to him anyway. I mean where do you think this much defeat lease zonta zverev because feel like hib more so than all of the other sort of pretenders bedford. Cisa pass feels like we've been talking about him in the same situation for the longest in terms of being the costs potentially of winning a grand slam playing really really good tennis and seems to have all of the you know the tools particularly with his but sill still able to get there and he's had some pretty. I think devastating five-set losses particularly the the usa with with this loss loss of ac- to to dominate team as well when he did reach the And he did reach the us open final so it still feels like he's got work to do when in terms of that consistency and being able to yes have in the match but being able to come back from it. It still doesn't feel like he's fully able to do that. And i think when you come up against the top ten paige. I think that he's able to win a sad or even or even two sets. He's built for some reason able to to win three sets and that is obviously a reason why he is not able to to agree. Yes move regularly. Kind of get to grandson. Fine was but i think for him. It's sort of interesting. I think in the sense that he i think has the talent is not necessarily denying that. Same time it's just. It's just copy off for him. Add dispatch oversee date. Come up for him. And i'm like alexander's various limbo in terms of i didn't understand why display called caught. Do what he shows that he can do on the tour. A grand slam. Yeah i think he needs to wait for store tie probably a is that do you think is like it's just like it's just a fact of life the or he needs someone to take out about yokich before he wins a grandson. Do you see this being a. He still hasn't really had that that victory has he. I mean the fact. He's beaten a top ten player. Just says everything. I think in terms of he. He's he's going to need that he's going to need confidenct that he's gonna need the confidence from a victory like that to to to to win a slam and i mean casper. Reads gonna be at the top ten next week. I mean it's it's just it's not willing talking about like kind of the the big three. The fact is the top ten. Yeah it's of a spare for sticking point you know you just not gonna win a grand slam all year with without beating the best in the world well thing is joke. Riches sort of really kristie. Now he's the top ten and is out with amendments as roger who are the ones that can beat novak in islam- went wherever they go dominate team. He's out for the rest of the year. We st when when as guys combat what state. They're going to be into building. So i i just see how the current keyhole in the top ten aslam are gonna be able to do the business against any back to win like their first lab. I think they're going to have to capsulize on an incident or an injury old navy having a really really off day to be able to get through him. So i mean medvedev may prove wrong tomorrow. You know he's he's piggies like very good tennis. This any dropped one set on the way to the final unit. He came through very comfortably really against faa. Yesterday was down in that second set five down but but came back saved..

"Just a wet on last night because when we came off air last night we were watching that novak djokovic against holger ruin match and then Banker rescue started shortly after we finish recording festival. "Today in New York, and some of the most legendary players won't be there because of injury. Serena Williams. Venus Williams, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic, the third member of the so called Big Three, is trying to become the first man ever to win 21 Grand Slam titles and the first man since 1969 to win all four majors in the same calendar. You almost Frank Lindsay caught up with the New York Times tennis correspondent Chris Clary. You just released a new book about Roger Federer called the Master Chris before we get into the book itself. I wanted to get your sense. Is this it? Are we finally at the end of the era of the Big Three. The end that we know will come eventually, and we've been talking about for years now, you know, Frank, I think we are. You know, it's sort of it's sort of snuck up on us. Could say it snuck up on us quickly or gradually, But I mean, I think the big three as we've known them Federer, Nadal and Djokovic just routine legal and deepen slams Now that Roger's tried to come back from his Third knee surgery and ended up not working. I think you have to say that era is over. Now you've been if Roger manages to come back against the eyes of place, or I don't see him being a regular factor with just those two guys at the top anymore, So it was a tremendous period of time in tennis history. I think it is over. And now we're looking at Least for now, Novak Against the younger generation until that going for one of the ultimate achievement sport, not just tennis a true Grand Slam. Great did the olympic village but he had one day. He had two matches and he goes to. She's in a row he did it was. It was not novak's time when it came to the end of this olympic tournament. "That. We can play this semi final. Yeah it was. Kind of incredible to say never djokovic back on court. I think it was on court one. It wasn't even on the sensical just moments after this really on the shing defeats ferry wit. You know normally normally tennis lose if they lose in a big match and you see them for a little bit. They're able to just go away and he was just publicly back out. That was a very weird situation Just on that point david of him being thirty seven at the next olympics. Who knows it. It's kind of fascinating. How these these careers of these players can seem so set in one direction and then suddenly changed. I mean how many times have we thought it was gonna be the leader at the end of it. Or how many times we in the dull. Now we think it's jackovitch but i do wonder whether having the olympics three years time is the sort of thing that might even extend novak djokovic career. You know it. It can be something that he aims for. Something that motivates him when he's done everything else on clay roland garro paris. I mean i do think klay is the surface where his game has declined a little bit and it seems like a ridiculous thing to say in the year that he won vote on garo speech and rough on the dog. But i do think he's more vulnerable on that surface. But we'll say it's it is fascinating. I go back to twenty fifteen when he when he lost Levering at the french open that that felt like a crushing loss at the time of backhands fizzing past him. Beaten dolly beaten murray. He was set up to win the french open for the first time he lost. And i thought gosh okay. When x yaacob age he won the next fool. Slams this is this is a guy who can absorb blows and bounce back but these done that in the past doesn't mean necessarily we'll be able to do it again. I just fascinated by what this result does for the next weeks and months and years ahead. It's just changed things. I thought we were going in one direction. We've we've taken a different turning By the way the idea of threes time the olympics at rolling gareth's being current dangling before now that chocolate sydney academy. I wonder whether and raphael sold about it. Well he already has gold. In fact he has singles and doubles golden mixed doubles. Knowing gets there though. Catherine i mean with suarez navarro out of retirement though they well i understand very afterwards told the media. All this war is an adult. Oh the ones from yesterday again. It was merit surpass which passed Maria sakari salary Steph came up with the biz for both imperialist i thought that was a moment of just. S- tarnishing genius and quickly discovered onto the others. Already come up with that are well. I'm still impressed. Catherine biz isn't it. Yes i prefer beers on muthu. After that i was gonna say david tells us about last night. Three of them. And i've not felt good today. That's all. I felt behind everything that i've done. I've not really being on. It means bustles not paint fakes and he's six foot seven. What's that message is just getting one tech on our group. They weren't going through today with the woman that is on. The heard of david is is a fast reply and is sending what saps for any time from four thirty. Am on what we were pushing ten o'clock and there was nothing from david genuinely concerning. Yeah well what can i say it was talking about what you said to the net. And he said i mean he was. He was tearfully. He was very emotional and he said he'd said to him the greatest of all time and this won't change that and he he's gotta finish the job. Though doesn't iridium i would. I saw you know he's into the olympic final and if he would lose this final now that would be massively bittersweet really. I would thought he's playing. Karen hatching of who's to to me a surprise finest but well what an opportunity. Baker public arena busta. Today six three six three. And and i think i think that could be quite a good match hat chenoweth verve. You know i kind of feel hatching of is gonna bring it and have a right go. What do you think matt quite interesting. Head to head to all and hacks nuts won the last two and one them pretty handily. I mean they weren't. They weren't that recent over two thousand eighteen in paris when he went on to win the title and Twenty nine teen in canada. I think they were both straight sets. Wins the second set of action of today. And i thought he was good. I thought he was playing exactly the way you would want action of to play which was imposing that big game serving well hitting big forehands. Just kinda nonsense. Didn't even get involved in a real tussle with karanja pasta. Which i thought he might. He just him like he like. You should be able to with that big game. So that was. That was impressive. I thought actually this. This last month has been has been impressive. I was beginning to think of action of the fourth russian. Having been the first really to to break into the top ten medvedeva overtaken group lev had given corrective start. The air was more relevant action of wimbledon quarter-final relegated to the role of russia's secret. Yeah so it's impressive. what action of doing. And gosh that that win over. Kenya booster was great. But in light of djokovic. It's now presented him with a real opportunity. I mean i think still the favourite for that match but he's got a much better chance of beating various thing than he would have done yaacob age. Well i i always think as well have interviewing Dementia maybe about year after. She won the gold medal. And you could tell that it didn't really matter what else she did in her career. Or what gone before. That was going to be enough to feel massively satisfied as terrorist plaque. Can i ask a hypothetical question. Yeah i'm gonna ask it now because it could be completely irrelevant. Come sunday up implemented level hypothetical just trying to work out how you view an olympic gold. And you know it's it significance. If half of wins on sunday who's career today would you rather have hatches or medvedev's hatch enough. I you know i would. I would sell my soul to the devil for an olympic gold. Doctor faustus style. That's really crush to date. So am i. Do i have to assume that medvedev never.

"And then suddenly flipped completely other way an an and in his words my game fallow part and that is exactly what happened he. He stopped being out to hit through zverev. As you said that sort of power outage his stamina seemed to go. He seemed to be lacking energy. You use the word flat david. I think that's exactly what what it was. There was a flicker at the start of the safeway gunned down a break and then he had break points in the second game of the third set and that was a moment there were. I thought he might get back into the match. But when he didn't take that break point he then low serve again. And i just thought time running out he is. He is not gonna get this back because he's not got the energy he he's knackered. But yeah just the manner. The matches is why it's so shocking. Jokic's doesn't lose from setup sat in a break up. He'd want us sixty eight matches when he won the first set. This just doesn't happen and yet it did so dramatically and so suddenly and it's. It's a huge deal. This do you think that this would have happened. Let's say they mentioned the semi finals of the us open. Would and he's he's late in the summer break is. Is there a crowd. is it. just the best of well the crowd and he's he's had a flat period in a match. He's lost his setina bright lead and suddenly lost the third set. Six one six love does he. Do you feel. Would you feel that he would come back looking like he looked today in the. I think he's gonna come back. He's not a joke. Which is one three slams this year. He's looked unbeatable even when my eyes with telling me otherwise. I thought he was going to come back today. So yes but it was wrong today. So who who knows it really does. I don't know whether it's a just one of freak results. Precipitated by a number of combining factors that we've discussed throughout the week at just sort of a weird olympics result all-weather look. I mean he could. He could drop a tent on way on his foot over the next few weeks and still be favourite for the us open. I think but i'm not costing that into doubt over one result but you know the. The mental resolved resolve quite required to tr- even try and pull this off this calendar slam the smallest dent to it. The smallest swerve. Of course i think he's. He's not insignificant. Monosso how how drained today was that a one off sort of condition related thing that you can just bounce back from once. You're a lovely acclimatize de conditioned environment. And you've had a few days rest store without someone who's tank for the year is is empty. I don't know the answers to any of these questions but then questions. I was asking today's game. And i think that's what's so interesting about this is that we don't know the the full effect of this result until a few weeks time. Okay obviously we know. It's denied djokovic. The gold medal and we can view this result in isolation and it can be really shocking but ultimately we will look back on the totality of the season. I think and how we view this will be. I think we'll be connected to whether does the kind of slam or not. I don't buy the idea that this is insignificant. For jackovitch iffy wins the calendar slam. I saw few tweets going around saying that this will be forgotten if djokovic twins the calendar slam i. I don't agree with that. I think he wants the olympic gold. The fact he went to tokyo despite all the restrictions prove that he was off to this. He loves playing for serbia. He wants to complete tennis. You know and this is a element that is missing. You're doing him a disservice. If you think you can just forget this week this aside. He wants to win everything he wants to be all conquering At the same time. I do believe the strength of calendar slam achievement woods be so overwhelming and so monumental that it would significantly help him get over this and that would be a nagging sense of what if perhaps if he completes the kind of slam and doesn't have the golden part but ultimately he's mango is the calendar slam. I think so yeah. I don't know whether that makes sense. I just think we went fully understand this result until we've got the us open in a way and had that. Yeah yeah. I i personally think that if he completes the grand slam Which none of his contemporaries have done. I think that that will trump all of their achievements And put them alongside to two men in history The there's no no question this is this is cutting him. It hurt him last time he desperately desperately wanted to do this and the chances are he's never gonna do it now. I saw a tweet from my colleague. Russell fulani thirty seven by the time. The next one comes around and he wouldn't bet against him. I think anybody who says flatly no shock which is not going to do this one day with with another olympic games in for you. What does it three as time now. Is it yes three time. I think that's the that's certainly possible. But it's it's a heck of a lot less likely than it was twenty four hours ago and i i think he's. He's far more likely to be not not the player. He is now in three years time. But i'm really pleased that he that he went really pleased that he had a guy. This i think i think if he hadn't been even harder to swallow to be honest for him And and and he's given a good a good guy and to me a few more quotes from that. Sasha asthma got from from jackovitch. I feel terrible. My game fell apart. I just stopped allowed him to dictate. And that's what really struck me watching. Is he started to play like a war from the baseline. When's verbs really playing. Well that's not actually enough. Because if he he can hit through he's got a very similar looking game and and if he's not messed around and if he's not forced on the back foot or into defensive positions himself to be awkward. You're gonna end up in a problem and that's happened before against deserve for jockey which that match at the atp finals was with straight sets and it was. It was quite similar for two sets as those last two sets where today and yeah he says look. I didn't come in fresh. I came here exhausted emotionally but very motivated with a desire to win a medal for my country. I hope to use at least one of the chances tomorrow. Now by that he means he's playing in a bronze-medal match against public arena. Buster and he's also playing in a bronze-medal matching the mixed doubles because his day got worse folks. He followed up singles. Defeat with mixed doubles defeat against Alongside rich and again niinisto anna vich not to go up to him in the dressing room in say you ready to go out and i was wondering whether after suitable rest on the order of play might be in about three weeks something like.

As far as i was concerned because a lot of things last week but that results him being defeated by alexander's verve despite zverev losing the first set six one and being three two in a breakdown. I i've just watched it again. I've just watched it again whilst cooking and having dinner and trying to spots where this old turned and why and i still feel a little bit clueless about it. Don't you going to say here's way it is going to be completely pointless. Podcasts ought to hear the the version of events that you have in your fast. I want to hear my. I still think cliffhanger kid. Judge me excellent. Well look i. I'd be i'd be lying if i could completely come out. Outwith why from a novak djokovic perspective. Because i first of all i should say i think that there's a clear gift gear change in the way alexander's very suddenly started playing. And i think it's always quite difficult in these situations to know where one player comes down and allows the other plan back in or the other player shoulder barges way into the match in the other one doesn't have much scientists and it's usually a combination unless somebody playing out of their mind but i don't think that they're just did this and rendered novak djokovic. Unable to compete there was there was definitely some of some of the as well. Because i turned on and it was three or four one in the first set initially and chocolate. She's just doing what is done all the way through this tournament. He's he's winning easily and he's winning as though he's just playing the sport to everybody else and he's winning within himself and then he just goes quiet and an all starts happening very quickly and it's verve starts to hit that i think signature shot. That makes you think right. He's informed now which she's running back and down the line with control and power penetration no matter what the opponent does And i think the the lack of crowd is is a benefit to verify. His somebody reached his biggest result of his career in front of nobody at the us open And he's done it again now and jock. Vich has just come from winning the french open and wimbledon in amazing atmospheres. And i don't when things started to go badly. There was nothing to tap into and he looked flat and he looked energy less he spent and i don't exactly know why and i don't from this he's given i don't think he is exactly sure. Why but that's what seems to happen. What's your fashion. It looked like a powerful to me after our failure in a human being that he just suddenly his his energy bill. On the novak djokovic computer game just went down to zero and it's a. It's a little bit of what you said david about. How much is it. The the opponent hitting street and take out of his hands because on the wherever occasion that jackovitch dole's lease to a big hitting player that takes much by the score for the neck. Jovic does look underpowered. In that scenario jovic looks underpowered. He's not he's he's not a feeble playa but powers in his main weapon but i still think he looked underpowered. In the extreme today for the latter part of that much now full disclosure at a certain. A break-up i stopped paying attention to that much such as my conviction that the result was a foregone conclusion and i was at work. And how do you know. I was already in a juggling situation. And i- i prioritize other thing. What's his you're juggling situation just to give us an idea of how you have to sit if you're trying to keep across the tennis but linking between sports on your school one so sort of essentially have to be across everything or everything whether a potential stories Which is brilliant dream. Come true for me. it's a. It's a slight the first few days of slam where matt's is look a little bit wild it so brilliant but it's also a little bit too much. So i'm i've got the ten is on one of my screens but it's quite difficult to give it my full attention and less story looks like it's developing and then tennis roy's is up my agenda but it didn't even occur to me the story with develop there But i certainly tuned in watching mini. Was one breakdown in the deciding. Set expecting some of surge some sort of come back and actually it slit like he was waiting three quicksand. It was quite horrible to watch really. I really felt for for novak djokovic today And it was disconcerting. Sam like that use I think it was. You might in a tweet. Because it wasn't a he said yes. We expected jovic to be more vulnerable over best-of-three-sets. Yes we expected him not to like these conditions one bit and yet it still didn't really occur to any of us three actually might lease I that's what it looked like happened to me why it happened. I am at a loss. Yeah i mean. I really am left with sucks. Ascents of shock a sense of shock to match some of the biggest upsets. We've seen in tennis in recent years. I think you throw out. Names were synonymous with an upset vinci. Stokowski i'm left with a similar failing today and i think that speaks to the historic nature of what jackovitch was going full. Because alexander's verve is not one of those players. He's he's a better caliber of player. So perhaps shouldn't be as surprising. But it really is djokovic. As you said david ed seemed so indestructible just on this path to achieving something historic here and yes. There were these little signs of the heat and the humidity and the best of three sets rather than the best of five that suggested he could be more vulnerable. But it didn't feel like that at all. And that's why it's so shocking. Because the manner of how this match flipped as you said he was cruising cruising in this match looking brilliant just complete control of his game of his movement of where the booze going just playing with such clarity.

Hey we promo code when you guys want to do and dalton was the one who said new balls please and like that was just it instantly. It's like yeah that's the promo code. No sometimes look it's not it's not always That the dalton ideas the best one way we can say that we can say that lovingly right not every single one but man he does throughout some gyms occasionally hands on dad that was certainly one of them so that was so. They be impressed with his performance. Here in the slammer. Do you think jovic going to be over. That mimes five hundred comfortable threshold. Certainly not minus five thousand like he was today. But what's your number what you have a. Yeah i think he's gonna be above minus five hundred. I'd say gimme gimme minus thousand i. That's too high. It's a grand slam semi-final. I do think he is going to be a comfortable favor. I'm gonna say minus seven hundred. Yeah miami seven twenty. I just feel like that's the number that comes to my head. I shop evolves going to be like plus four hundred range. I promise you. I have not low and all put them at like what plus six eighty then took to match the minus. One thousand something. "And it's working. You did that hilarious. Returned position where he was. I mean it's so cheeky just standing virtually in maybe about two feet behind the service line inside device they got him a break of serve against the world number. One today absolutely deafening. Stephanie has something to clever. The gabriella sabatini episodes tennis relived. Doing is he faces. Dovid gopher next so we got five foot nine evans against for the eleven of davidge Accurate that's what it says on the website but anyway cracking win for davick gone. I'm quite pleased for. I mean he is undeserved today. I think six four seven six. And very i think kind of disgraced himself a bit. The way flung his racquet away at the end of the match in the direction. It seemed to me of his own support team were sitting at his left and he just flung it sort of a right angled across the court in that direction. We'll do what was he wearing that much. Oh some sort of same thing yesterday Very as i said on the what's up yesterday. Very josh hartnett circa two thousand in reference. Nobody did. That's where i'm repeating it and i'm hoping it gets a more receptive audience this time. The era where young boys wore a t shirt over long-sleeved shirt and soro and it was the coolest hottest thing a young boy he could do. You know to wear the that was cool. Twenty years ago. He just sees footballers do it. So he's doing it But now they're doing it. And he's lost in straight-sets. So david goffin who's just feel sorta got fannies because he he's talked about how miserable he's found bubble life. Hasn't he in a bit of a struggle and and he suddenly seems to have got his form guy again but that could be quite a spectacle of a match. Couldn't it mountain cli- those two absolutely. Yeah that is that. Is that my street that kind of match lots of variety. Lots of interesting rallies. I should think i was keeping one eye on. That i was mainly watching evans djokovic this morning but from what i saw really looked like debica families the better player he was the one trying to dictate the points with his forehand. That little quick footwork. He's got to get round is back in the fall. And i love watching that and he needed a lot of match points. It was getting a bit bit sticky for him in that tiebreak but Yeah that's an impressive win. He didn't serve in the home match against play. So i would suggest some more sneaky return tactics evans might be needed against fan to drought some breaks of serve. Because it sounds like he's really well go fund expect that comes down the line in that one. Lovely lovely beckons down the nine. Yes absolutely Stefanos tsitsipas also through to the quarter-finals. He will face alejandro davidge fifteen. Who has had a bit of a breakout week. Hasn't a east bayton liquor plea today and eastern to get somewhere. He's he's an interest in chapter. Watch because i mean he's not. He's not your standard spanish clay-court busy. I mean he does prefer the clay. I think he is actually a junior wimbledon champion but he. He is most at home on clay. I believe and he's fun to watch. The drama has never fall away. When you're watching him. I was the sense that he might be about to implode. Okay good yeah. He's he's really good fun I do think he'll have his work cut out against sits surpassed the more i see. So it's a pass on clay. The more that just makes a lot of sense to me. It seems to really accentuate the strengths. In his game. And nullify some of the weaknesses. The fact he's got so much more time on the ball that return of serve. We've talked about being a weakness is just is just not on the clay and he was. He was very good against christine green. Today what is this new pronunciation. Do we need to know it. What i've discovered there's an accident on the i which which would mean. That's where the emphasis. Okay that's because like it's accurate. Kristen green who had beaten sits pass brothers in doubles. Apparently die before so Guys revenge. Did you watch the wooden for the past brothers in doubles the previous saw the hug which was prolonged that. Probably puff your day. Yeah what's happened. And i also saw a rant from stephanus in the direction of the empire which i didn't enjoy right yeah concrete here. But that wasn't was on on. Hang on. I think i have seen this. Yes i saw as part of an honor. gubbay montage always maimon to hush. The reasoning is there is definitely an increasing trend of the variety of umpire abuse. Along the lines of who do you think you are. You've never played the game. You don't eat understand the game you've got no right to be here and that worries me. Yeah that worries me because he told him to go back to futures where you malone i think which is first of all take when he's playing with his brother who's ranks nine hundred and something in the world second of all. There's just a lot nicer ways to to get across your displeasure about a line call. It was yeah. It was out of order really. I think that was. That was quite tiktok's I think one of the things we stephan us is because he's he's a bit different. Generally i love him for it in so many ways and there's an awkwardness to his his behavior at times. It's not quite what you expect. And sometimes doesn't get the gallery tells the gang that doesn't work equally. His rants light that felt over the top felt too much more. the situation. you know it felt unpleasant. Didn't really enjoy watching that and usually love rant. Anyway they're out of the doubles as is phoenix. nasa out of the singles. That hasn't started to well with a. tony played. one. Las one straight-sets defeat. I i tend to say this stuff when a new coach secured a new play the loser. Maximum listen can then. Is it Arinda slee unfair about. Yeah it's it's not an auspicious start is it. Did he lose. I don't even know not watch this one as part of a multi screen event. Yeah he to aman krisztian garin again. Oh who is a very good claycourter. And i think the results is not necessarily a bad one. I think you can lose to him on. Clay got what five titles on the surface. i think. The manner of the defeat was slightly. Alarming phoenix was well. In control of the match. It was then delayed. They had to go off rain. I think it was on monday. Came back on tuesday and finished. Just didn't just didn't have it. He was making loads. And loads of unforced errors consequence to what happened to him in the finals that he's played had suddenly his game he just goes completely off and he starts racking up so many unforced errors and he doesn't seem have a way to stop it from just sort of running away from him he didn't look as inhibited is looked in those finals by nerves pressure whatever it was just a really bad performance but i think you know. I think we have to give those coaching partnership. Some time. i was thinking. Perhaps this is just turning dollars. Ploy ruse to just be with rafael nadal. Again because he was watching the dow's matches from the and it's like out. No i've just i've just hang on. Well i'll tell you until he wins the tournament. While i'm here exactly what he's doing is the dow He heals two games today against plural. Griego detro- six one six one and he's wearing loud outfits is no-doubt he's wearing all purple with pink. "On Sunday at the US Open top seeded Novak Djokovic was behind in the first set to Pablo Carino booster. When he smacked a ball into a person's neck, Jovovich didn't hit the lines person on purpose but the rules are clear if you hit an official with the ball or your racket or anything else you can get kicked out of the tournament after a short debate Jovic got defaulted. It was a bizarre. And what's been bizarre tournament one being held without fans with quarantine rules that have been applied shall we say in consistently? Noah Rubin was in the US Open bubble he played doubles losing in the first round with his partner or Nesta. He's also got a podcast of his own it's called behind the racket and it's part of a larger project to reveal what it's like to try to make it as a pro tennis player. The injuries mental health struggles in the battle to make a living. No thanks so much for being here. Now, thank you for having me. So no Novak is the unquestioned best player on the men's tour. He hadn't lost all year. Roger. Federer Rafael and the doll not playing in New York he was an enormous favorite to win his eighteen, th Grand Slam, and then he hits aligns person with a ball which I don't think any of us had on our twenty twenty Bingo card What did what did you think when you saw that or when you heard about it and what did you make the decision to disqualify him from the US Open? You know throughout this time I think it's pretty clear that you know they can. They can mess up the rules and everything else but if anything touches aligns person. Even, a ballboy at times there's no question I. Mean I've been a part of two. Challenger tournaments actually where I've seen a racket hit off of something else come down onto aligns person going actually minus miles per hour and kicked out those during Charlottesville actually know what you're talking about Darren King and Charles are right there and then my limited experience commentating a match was last year and Charlottesville again and Michael Mo- you know when? To throw his racket hit allies person and that's it. So it's it's so easy I mean soon as you hit the ball as soon as he saw where landed, he knew I was going to happen. So actually as somebody who's seen this happened to lower ranked players is it actually kind of a good thing in your mind that when it happened with a top player, there weren't different rules that they just apply to consistently yeah I mean. We've seen this done before I've seen now Banda kick the side and then the would breaks it hits the lines for we've seen a done. This is the only rule that they stick to. No matter what happens you know no matter who the player is you can't get around it and especially this one I mean this one actually looked pretty bad I mean this is you know out of anger a ball head right to the. Neck can't feel good So this is one of those that you don't really look at the video like Oh you know might have been overly reacting to that situation this this looks pretty bad and the instant reaction was pretty much ananymous on ESPN that the rule was implemented correctly Brad Gilbert though did see the need to point out that joke that didn't hit the ball overhand he didn't hit it that hard he said he was flicking. Anger and I just WanNa be clear here when a professional tennis player decides to Flip. The ball. It's going a lot faster than I would flip a ball the way that joke of did that thing was cruising and clearly the woman was in agony. No, we've. We've seen it done before where players or like kind of upset but they just I'll use that term flick a ball and it's fine. You know it's it almost on the arrival comes down and hits you in everybody's fine does he don't even feel think this was a line drive that that wasn't really had the trajectory of just going straight. So you're looking at it and regardless of the intentions. Ironic that there are no fans and still managed to hit somebody but it's this is you know the situation and I guess the only person to be Jovic twenty twenty had to be Jovic. What was the experience like for you being in the bubble and want to get into? The quarantine rules and how there's kind of affected you. But before we get into the specifics of that, just you show up at the tennis center, you're there for a while and like what is it like just being on the grounds and somebody who's played in the US Open before like how do you compare this experience to past years? I mean I to say how disappointed I am that my house is nine minutes away from the tournament hotels. That's tough. And I can't get out to. Get the few things that I love to my place and for God but yeah. I mean the first few days actually amazing a dream come true. For me. I've had so much pressure surrounding the week or two, and even the week before the open you know getting. Texts. Third Grade Teacher saying hey yeah I've been a extra tickets I was like I don't even have enough for my parents so not dealing with that this year was actually Pretty incredible for people who don't know you've been billed for a long time like the best player out of New York since John McEnroe. This is my hometown this and I love playing in front of people just people. I know when it's you know I've I've I played Fed in Rod Laver. That's fifteen thousand people I've never met, but it's a little different when I, there's a thousand people I know every one of them and. They aren't huge tennis fan. So if I lose a match against like somebody who's sixty in the world, it's like, no, it should have had that one why Jews and I'm like this isn't high school tennis so it's A. To. Not Deal with that outside pressure was was actually a really refreshing and just to walk the grounds and not get the good old New York shoulder chest by accident or whatever else comes our way it was nice. But then you know this is not use opens falled. It got boring. I was there for ten days. There's really not much to do is only so many times you play mini and I think they did what they could at times but. There at Thursday. Yeah. Only had about five hundred people spread out amongst all the practice courts, all the match courts and the grounds. There's you can only when you look around, you see forty people around you. You were not pleased with how the tournament handled the protocols for players being removed after testing positive for the coronavirus of French player was kicked out. He had been around several other French players and you were explaining what happened you were on the waiting list right to get into the singles, draw what happened and what didn't sit right with you know. Backpedal for a quick second I. Mean I praise them for how much work they put into creating this bubble I mean it was a massive undertaking. Sure with that being said the quote that we heard over and over and stay sales director said we are preparing for positive tests as they should I mean this is putting a lot of people from around the world. In the same place. So here we are Ben Wallpaper test positive automatically gets kicked out. Great in my head I'm like I know people have spent you know immense time with him in close quarters than I was hearing rumors that there's video of close quarters without masks, and so here I am thinking that I have a pretty good opportunity to get in and this. Is because in normal years, there'd be qualifying and alternates, but there is no qualifying this year and the alternates can't be from outside the bubble and you have to be inside the bubble the only way to be, and you have to be in the tournament and the only way to be in the tournament without playing singles is to be in the doubles draw so. They take the highest ranked singles, guys from the doubles draw. So here I am in pretty good contention, my partner and I both in pretty good contention to get in through the contact tracing knowing what would happen but then USA came out and said working with the New York State Department of Health we came up that we're going to have a bubble within a bubble. And I was like. Interesting maneuver. Here. Amid long story short, it just seemed like they were paving their own path for success that they were going to make.

"We are back on get up in the extraordinary controversy yesterday. What you see there is Novak Djokovic prohibitive favourite at this year's US Open a moment of frustration late in the first set in a match against public or India boost. Oh He just frustrated moment just smashes the ball and as you see, it hits the throat of a line judge was looking in the opposite direction and this was the the conversation that ensued with tournament officials who ultimately rule that he would default the match and out he goes the number one seed in that circumstance. Here's the Great John McEnroe who was all over the coverage for us on ESPN and John I will start with the most simple question work our way from there. Do you believe they made the right decision forfeiting Jovovich from that circumstance yesterday? Well, unfortunately I do. I I. Don't think they were left with a lot of options I would have loved for them to look for a way and I hope they did figure out some type of way or decision that could have kept him in the tournament. But I think when it just hit her in the throat and she was having trouble breathing that just ended any debate right? There are knows obviously a flow it socks. Is Terrible for the tournament, but I'll tell you one thing maybe did the other players favor because the same guys winning everything? and. So we got a new a new male champion, a new US Open champion. One of these guys is going to win a major who's never wanted. So hopefully, that's going to lead to bigger and better things for these other guys but there's been a lot going on Novak's mine the last couple of weeks starting even a few months ago when he went on his tour in Serbia and a bunch of the guys got the virus and then they weren't social distancing. So he took a lot of heat for that. He's been trying to start a new union players Union which actually I. Think, it's admirable but he's taking heat from the other player. So I think he was frustrated about he normally has a lot more people around him. He's not used to you know the situation he's in obviously this is unprecedented in crazy but he was on ads ever since he came to the states no question. So just did a excellent job as sort of painting all the things going on around him. That said, what is the players understanding of what specifically they cannot get away with, which is to say he hit the ball in frustration yesterday my understanding of the rule is that's reckless. Recklessly, hit the ball but we all understand that if that ball is one foot to the right and doesn't hit the line judge in the throw, he certainly not going to get defaulted. So what is the players understanding of what exactly it is? You cannot do in that situation you know in an apart-. linesmen. That's to me on got a little experience.

"The first words that statement should have been about how he's. How he's feeling I think they should have been about the the line judges and the the sorry judge in the. The consequences of his actions. They did the line about not disclosing her name to respect her privacy is somewhat bizarre and. The I find they lie about I'm extremely sorry to, of course such stress. I find a little bit pointed the the choice of stress I mean maybe I'm reading into. What selection too much. Maybe it was. Drafted quickly in and put out but given given the all meet people that he employees one while the suspects that's not the case he caused her. Will be unintentionally physical home. And I'm not sure stresses. Is the right word see to select there but? He said sorry and that's important. I. Don't think I. Don't think necessarily needed to hear in that moment about learning and growing. and. sadness and emptiness. I think that could have come at a slightly late today and this could have just been a straightforward. Sorry. I acted recklessly in the heat of the moment. Since though personally that he needs to change. Is Important because this is not just a one-off. This is not a first time he is he is he is thrashed a ball away in anger. The the only differences every other time he has got lucky and this time he got on lucky in terms of actually striking a person about the court. As you said, he's not the only person who does it but he's a repeat offender doing this exact thing Matt I think you. You found an occasion in the archives when when pretty much the same thing happened except he didn't actually make contacts. In such a great way with lines with a person around the court. Yeah. As soon as this happened my mind when to the ATP finals in two thousand, sixteen when Novak Djokovic was involved in a press conference exchange with the mcclement who was working for the mirror and Him about an incident during a match at the finals where Djokovic hit the ball in the direction of his team and at the finals, they're sitting very low. They're sort of level the player boxes, any bounce the ball into them, and miss them and miss people in the crowd, and he was obviously asked about that incident in this press conference by Neil McLennan and Neil also referred back to an instant that same year which was at Roland. Garros. Where Djokovic was playing Thomas Bird Iq and flung his racket behind him in frustration and missed the lying church because the line judge step of the way of the racket that was the only reason. It didn't hit them. Anyway. So Neil mcclement put this to Djokovic shouldn't press conference and said. We saw you similarly venting frustration Garros throwing your racquet does it concern you one day that will cost you dearly if it hits someone Djokovic of it said you guys unbelievable. Wise it unbelievable because you're always picking these kinds of things. McLennan. Doing these things Jakovich I keep doing these things. Why don't you get suspended then? No mclemore you were close weren't you jackovitch? Not suspended. So if I'm not close I'm not close. Lemon ball had hit a spectator. It could have been serious Djokovic could have been yes. It could've snowed in o two arena as well but it didn't Know Lemon. You're not concerned about your mindset Jackovitch. I'm the only player shows this frustration on the court that's what you're saying. No McLennan you're one of the talk ranked players in the world. So. Normal Clements said you're showing this frustration I'm asking you. Do you think it's an issue for you and your it said it's not an issue for me. It's not the first time I did it and that was the end of that exchange. But what I think that shows and I think as you both said, it's right to point out. Djokovic is. Definitely definitely not the only person to have. Thrown rackets and hit balls and potentially endangered someone by doing that. But it has been a pattern throughout his career of slightly slightly reckless behavior in that way, it does it to me. It's always it's always felt like something like this could happen and he and those quotes I think show that he's been he's been quite unbothered by the potential consequences of it in the past and his almost felt like. He's he's above the potential consequences in his responses there. So So. Yeah I think I just think the conclusion of that is that this is an issue which has been brewing for coverage for a number of years and I agree with you maybe maybe now isn't the time in his statement to talk about self improvement, but I think there needs to be. A recognition and it is good that there is recognition from him. That something does have to change. It's just a shame. That it's taken this incident for him to realize that when they were warning signs long before this and just to. Add to I. Think my my my disappointment that he he didn't do this face to face with us in the medium with with his fans with everybody. Other people that have done this and I think of Dennis chiappa valve smashing the ball into the empire's face. which was a horrible moment. At how? He. Came into a press conference and I'm sure he was he was helped along with some Meteo as well but he he he just fronted up and he just. Didn't offer any excuse whatsoever for his actions. I needed it face to face. Even, David Nalbandian when when he kicked the line judge on the court with him and admitted, he told me to shut up when I tried to advise him to apologize to the crowd. But at least he spoke and then he went into a press straight afterwards. And Tim Henman did the same so I just feel like. I know it's stressful a no SA- stamina just devastated you are. But when you're the leader of the players, you're the council former presidents and your now the head of the professional tennis players Association..

"Everyone John Wartime here is this week's sports illustrated tennis podcast hope everyone is well healthy wearing a mask not at a Belgrade disco topless, which I suppose is where we ought to start Jamie I'm glad you're you're with me today. How's everything in your world? It is good I. AM also not in a Belgrade club dancing around in close quarters. Shouting. Indoors So, that's a win I. You know I had wanted to do A. Normal podcast. We're going to talk to Donald Dell longtime agent. He had some very interesting <hes> thoughts about how to merge the ATP and the WPA we were GonNA talk about. The plan for the US Open and tennis getting back in there some events this week. We were talking about the Patrick. marauded lose event, and the Charleston ended in of course <hes> everything <hes> blew up metaphorically and I. Guess You could say in a sense literally with news from <hes> from the Balkans this weekend which we probably timestamped us, we are speaking on. What is today Wednesday morning the right as cracked. So we are seventy two hours into this <hes>. Kindly, call it a narrative <hes>. I spoken a lot about this. I've written about this I will say before we can talk. Specifics I'm very surprised at the stem, and this is really world news. I mean I was getting calls. From Aljazeera the BBC and then I just Mary. Carillo is on MSNBC Today. Mean is really become much more than tennis story. For better worse I would argue worse, but this really has been. The kind of story had ripples beyond the the sport and beyond sports period I think a lot of people are. Sort of trying to figure out how we eat back to normal I think we're trying to see I think we're starting to see some real. Sort of disparities in countries, and even here in the United States with how this is not only being managed, and not only with the data says, but just in terms of philosophy, so I think this is the story of really found its way into into a much broader story, and this has become absolutely <hes> world news. I mean this is as big as a ten stories we've had since there's been a match and I guess what why don't we just start there? I, mean Jamie. Let's start with. Top Line Impressions of <hes> the Adria Tour Novak Djokovic in the last seventy two hours. Yeah you're right to say that tennis exhibitions don't normally get this much press. I think it's always a funny thing with antennas. When people you know who aren't as familiar with the sport, they see results from from an Axa, whether it's early in the year late in the year, and you know somebody, beat, someone, and most people just sort of shrug it off, but it's as you said really interesting to see how much this has really gone across the world. World and everyone is talking about it and rightfully, so because this is a big issue in I think it was from the Gecko, when we started to see the photos and the videos of everything that was happening between the hugging and <hes> everything that was happening on the court, and then of course everything that was happening all off the court. All of those images in those photos are really going to be the mark of this event of this tournament. And jovovich whether or not he deserves all of the blame or not will also be the face of this issue for a long time coming <hes> he is the organizer of this event of course, and also the oldest <hes> in terms of the players that was there and for me. That was something that you know. He really needed to use his his advantage, and the the younger players thereof and born Cora and others <hes> even Dmitrov for what it's worth. You know are are younger than him. They look up to him <hes>. <hes> and for him to invite these players to come to this tournament in for him to organize this in the way that he did end to have the results that we had is just <hes>. It's not great, and I wish that the best tennis player you know the number one in the world right now had thought a little bit more about how he was exposing all these people. It's unsafe conditions and took a little bit more time to think about how what the results and the repercussions of this could have been. Yeah I mean I think no-one covered themselves in glory. I mean there's already been a lot of finger. Pointing joke of its father have having moved on from from fettered. Baby is now pointing fingers at Dmitrov as the culprit, I mean this is just ugly stuff I. Mean I think we ought to pause here in and say we do hope everyone makes. A speedy and easy recovery as as nick, curious I wrote. Nick curious turned into the the Wiseman of tennis Munich. curios thoughts on all of this have been. A lot more reasonable and responsible than anyone else's and the nick curious very rightly says this virus is not a joke, so. Go further. Let's be clear. We hope everybody makes a a quick recovery from virus that we know you know. Six figures over is can be fatal. <hes> having said all that I think I mean it's sort of interesting in the grand scheme of things, people who are casual fans or not even sports fans at all. This is hubris recklessness, and here's this athlete who somehow has been living in. Sick enough bubble so that he doesn't realize it. You can pass this on other people and hey. Viruses are really contagious and things like masks really work

"We'll fake. He said we might be back with an emergency podcast just amid twenty four hours after according to last one and back, we are because there have been developments in. The covid nineteen crisis that's been developing on the Adra tool. For probably over the course of the past two weeks, but is only presented itself to us over the past few days. We've obviously been following an extremely closely. We're expecting a statement from the world number one and one of the organizers of the Adra Tool. Novak Djokovic today and we have had the statement. In fact, we've had to statements from the world number one. Read you the first one just now. It starts off by confirming that Djokovic has indeed tested positive for Covid nineteen immediately upon his arrival in Belgrade he was tested along with members of his family and his team <hes>. He wasn't showing any symptoms, and he says that his result is positive as his wife Yelena. Both tested negative. He goes onto. Say Everything we did. In the past month we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions. All Tournament meant to unite and share message of solidarity and compassion throughout the region. The tool has been designed to help both established and up and coming tennis players from Southeastern Europe to gain access to some competitive tennis while the various tools are on hold due to the covid nineteen situation. It was all born with philanthropic idea to direct all raised funds towards people in need, and it warmed my heart to see how everybody strongly responded to this. We organized the tournament at the moment. The crisis has weakened believing that the conditions for hosting the tool had been met. Unfortunately, this virus is still present, and it is a new reality that we are still learning to cope and live with i. am hoping things will ease with time, so we can resume lives the way they were. I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection. I hope that it will not complicate anyone's health situation, and that everyone will be fine. I will remain in self-isolation for the next fourteen days and repeat the test. In five days now, already going to be a busy day today for <hes>, we'll certainly for the British tennis media because it was the first day of. If Jamie Murray event the battle of the Brits. But obviously with this huge kind of. Story transcending the sport developing <hes>. It's an even busier day. So what does I'm? Briggs want to nine PM. He wants a message David Law, saying <hes>. Don't close your laptop to seen Simon. Join a common. The tennis podcast Hello Simon. We, can he Simon? As a slightly weary voice, but we're. We're very glad to have the house he day been. Well, actually I. Play tennis this morning Mitch was. Day because in. About, one o'clock PM. <unk> statement dropped in just actually almost as the first big hit in. What you might describe elite tennis in the UK in Twenty twenty. Almost simultaneously as Jamie Murray went on colts. Who Doubles match? The statement jobs and the news course navy tested positive. I. Mean The I think if you're talking about the address. It wasn't as big a deal today. The positive tests were <hes> concerning <hes>. But the how many do we hereby stay ahead? Five hadn't made by the end of the end of the day and I will on Sunday night. <hes> so today it felt like a continuation rather than being quite the bombshell yesterday when. Magi my busiest every day on twitter. What were your initial reactions were? It's joke Richard subsequently released a second statement on instagram tonight, which we will come onto. But what were your reactions when that first statement came out and how? Much, did it. Differ or not from from what you were expecting from him, not in terms of necessarily the results of the test, but As somebody responsible for that tour in that tournament, his sort of degree if the responsibility is prepared to take etc.. Yeah well I mean. There was a sort of <hes>. Was a source of slight cheesed-off tone to it wasn't at the. He was sort of disappointed that we hadn't seen his pure intentions. For what they were a? and. Almost implication that that should have been enough to satisfy. On, lookers than indeed know the mysterious workings of the virus, and it was a bit of a mystery that has not recognized his pure intentions for the. Positives that they were. So, he kind of sounded a little bit. Petulant in the first statement, and then by the time the second one came out, he was a lot more. Apologetic <unk> fellow somebody might have had it worse.

"Your team is now on. Its Way to the maintenance fee schedule. I just can't wait to talk to the world out enough. He wants to take his frosted tips and go. I think that did Jovic down around to talk too much about Dow's physicality last year talking to tape. Now that Djokovic Anyway undercooked Nidal pretty was also smothered by judges game. And that's what happened at the start of this match it. It did occur to me that we might get a straight-sets drubbing from jackovitch. Because of the way he started because he suddenly team didn't look this destructive force that I was talking about last night. Who if he plays his best could blast Jakovich off the 'cause he just wasn't allowed to get any room to plan his big shots? Yeah he was being rushed by Jackovich's ability to stand end up on the baseline and just redirect team shop seemed shots. Were and knocking Jackovitch back. Like I think we thought they would actually Djokovic ended up looking like the the more powerful player in the rallies he was the one dictating his precision and his timing and his power. But it didn't I I know it didn't last more than about five or six games and it wasn't he was up and I think you actually showed me a statistic about that points they eat. Hit more unforced errors in the first seven games. He had in the whole match of last year. Yeah final. That's right which which didn't didn't really feel like now no unforced Arizona subjective measurements. Somebody's somebody's manually. Entering whether it's an unforced error force Tara. He's still is a graduate and he was a student, but these are all past tense because he's now officially right? So this doesn't feel right now. We'll get used to this is the new what do we think about Kickstarter, Matt? Well, Well. cool. Melvin matt's. You know been in gone, so it's just mass. So where? What do we what do we say aside from what I've just said about that men's singles final will? Is it contest? It was a huge disappointment as a performance by Novak Djokovic. It was sublime nine unforced errors in three cents. I mean to go with five and four stairs in the semi fourteen. Stairs in six sets. Absolutely sublime. Yeah. I mean, just ridiculous ridiculous level of tennis ridiculous achievement to in seven here. Seven out of seven. He's never lost a final here. Move ahead of Pete Sampras on the all time list, all of it. Absolutely. Sublime. But I feel a bit weird about the final about the fact that the me rough on the dole the greatest competitor ever in men's tennis didn't show tonight. He was mentally not there from the word go and throughout and I I'm struggling to to make sense of it all and I think that saying that detracts for. Joke of inches performance victory. Kit's? I mean, it's it's a testament to to Hyun adult is what he's a chief. And what he's done that. He's pretty much the only person on the planet that of the tea sets that performance from the dollar after the first he sets going the way they did you still thought Rafeh maybe had a bit of Jones. The league didn't school. To do even a fraction joke of it. And it was old must have been bit odd for him was happening on the other end of the core. I think both of them felt weird about it is just so not what was expected you. You talked and described you'll come sation with Novak yesterday. And how he seemed to be relishing the idea of the scrap because that's what they've always had pretty much. I mean, look, I say, it's the least like school, and I think straight-sets is the least likely school because equally would have been absolutely gulps. If Tiffany dalit one straight-sets, but the the weirdness you describe I think is act- because from the first even I two points of the match Nidal just wasn't feeling the ball out there tall. He wasn't middling the ball properly. He wasn't all of that aggression, all of that flat. Piercing hitting that that we've been seeing from him those big service bums, none of it was apparent today. Part of that is causing offense. Because you've got a guy who is his creek tonight's up the other end of the cords and just knows how to defuse the game of refunded out probably in a way like nobody ever hats. Yes. Didn't require diffusing today. I it wasn't that. He wasn't a joke, which nullified Nidal brilliance. Jovovich was just brilliant in his own, right? It wasn't about. There's nothing to to to notify. It was. I mean rough on those game was so off. He was so tight at the star. And it just when it's like that it just feeds Djokovic. He just puts it in Dhaka is hitting zone. Yes. And joker ventures literally teeing off. I always. I was thinking the analogy with. Whenever fish plane. Like that is it's like the cool is like a trapeze you and never took down the sort of end with the with the show. He's not having to cover much cool. He's just standing there and just maneuvering the board. And now the guy's looks like he's covering more coal because you can spread the play and. Jovovich just brush brush them aside. It was never close almost all my s- humiliation. If it weren't for the fact that an adult have been brilliant six previous matches and has that to to put a feather in his hat. It was. It was it was a bruising. I mean, we were wondering whether those new style of how tennis would have any bearing on Djokovic still wondering that because? Wasn't there? I mean. As you said a big part of that is because of what Djokovic can do to him, particularly I think on the return he can get in there..

He was he was allowing himself to settle into the back into back in rallies and feeding it to to to to verify in a way that really confident on it Djokovic shorty would've taken down the line back on more often. I would say about Djokovic. Now, interestingly we talked by this couple of weeks ago, and the cost his two losses had been sits in action of which felt significant I verify in there, the three young guys everyone's talking about and they're the only guys have beaten Djokovic in the second half of this year. So that's something he's going to have to contend with next year. But you know, wouldn't totally surprise me. If he came out and was just even more fired up next. It's a prove them. I'm still I would say that. I I'm there away big question marks in my mind about whether it's very of contrivance for this version of himself onto the grand slam platform, then whether Djokovic will have any doubt yourself.
