"A sharp a. You don't get this kind of hard hitting analysis anyway. Do you have a vision of Richie with the Austin Powers? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Absolutely. Right? Absolutely. Okay, so I don't know where we're going. But we'll be going there next. More about Harry nuggets. Next. When the day is done, the game is over and you need a break from all the stress relax in your tub or shower from bath fitter. Bath fitter will fit your budget with a price match guarantee. No money down, no payments for up to 5 years. Get the ball rolling, visit bath fitter dot com today. You're gonna need a bigger Polish each time for schlereth and Evans, big story of the day. What is this that you're so? You're so. Big. You're slower than Evans with this morning's biggest story in Denver sports. I was thinking about this, somebody brought up our pal Derek wolf in the afternoon as one of the hairiest guys at the fan. I don't, I don't know, I'm not gonna ask. No? He might take offense to that. And the last thing I want to do is get on Derek Wolfe's bad side. I don't think he would be offended by that question? No, are you Harry? What's wrong with that? But it got me thinking about wolf in a different capacity. For everyone saying, ah, why do you want a franchise tag, draymond Jones? Right? Yeah. He's an interior guy. Why you want to do that? Well, wait a minute. If we're talking about DJ Jones and draymond Jones, what if I had told you prior to the Broncos winning the Super Bowl in 2015 that I was making the case that, hey, you got to make sure that you take care of Derek wolf and Malik Jackson. Right. Think about their roles. In that Super Bowl defense and if you take in one or the other out, would this defensive Ben as dominant? Well, you did the next year, right? You took Malik out in that defense was in his dominant, okay? Still had the same back end, didn't you? Right? The Avon. So that's making my point. On a team that is so here's your word of the day. Bereft of good talent, top talent, why would you be in a hurry to let a guy who has shown himself to be a good player and ascending player? And especially if you can't work out a long-term deal, find player year to year. Pay him 20 million bucks a year, one year, $20 million deal. You got the money, you got the salary cap space. Yo, it's an interesting, it's interesting that you and you bring it up, Mike, but you think about one thing, what have we really truly learned about free agency over the years? The grass is not greener on the other side. Other people's free agents are not the answer to your problems. Usually. Now, there are the exceptions in every rule, but the old saying is the grass isn't greener on the other side. It's the greener worry, the grass is greener where you water it. And watering it, what I mean by that is you cultivate guys in your system on your football team, you grow those guys up and when those guys perform, you reward those guys. I believe in that, I believe in that system. I believe in doing it that way. Now, DJ Jones was an exceptional player. Of a free agent defense in San Francisco, but understand what he was playing in San Francisco. You had nothing but number one draft picks across the board. You had Ken law. You had Eric Armstead. You had, you know, for a time you had Buckner he went to Indianapolis, but you had Nick Bosa. Every guy on there, at one point, Solomon Thomas. Yeah, you could line up 5 defensive linemen at one point in that defense that were all first round picks. And so he was a really good player for them, but I think he got overshadowed when he got here, man. That dude played. He bolt out last year. And it's nice to have two guys that are problems. When you break a huddle, if you got a one dude that's a problem, easy to contend with. You got two guys that are problems. That becomes more difficult. You got three guys that are problems. Now you got issues up front. And obviously they didn't have three guys that were problems because Chubb wasn't what he once was with all the injuries and Gregory was hurt. Good text coming in this one. Mike Mark will you stop getting people excited about the nuggets. It's going to end in a heartbreak, no way the NBA allows this team to win an NBA championship. That's stupid. Sorry. That's silly. The team they beat last night, the Toronto Raptors. A team from Canada. Won the NBA championship in 2019. It's a good point. The San Antonio spurs. Yeah, they won 5 champions. Were a dynasty. Do you honestly think the powers that be? Wanted Toronto? To win an NBA title? If they could have had their pick of any team in the NBA, I'll put it this way. If you sat down with the powers that be, if they can indeed rig this thing and you ask them to rank one through 30, the teams that they would want to have a dynasty, I guarantee you San Antonio would have been, I don't know, 28, 29, 30. Sure. Absolutely. So I don't buy that. That's sorry. I appreciate the text, but that's a lazy powers that be that, listen, they would like the late Lakers and Celtics in it every year. I mean, in that the direction they would love to share, so yeah, here's the other thing. All you have to know is just continue to watch ESPN. Right now, I just looked up. Yep. Who's on there? Joker's wild, feeding it to Caldwell Pope. Joker, cut into the basket. Throwing an ALU Aaron Gordon. Like, all of a sudden, now you watch because ESPN is like, I mean, okay, and then get out of the parking schools. Okay, now they're replaying the Kendrick Perkins. JJ Redick's like, I can't believe this. And why are they Smiths? Are you kidding me? Why are they doing this right now? Like, why are they doing this with the nuggets right now? 'cause this reads like a children's book. This is like C dick run. I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam. I am, but would you like them on a boat? Would you like them with a goat? Would you eat them in it? That's what this is right now. What are they doing? They are introducing America to the nuggets who they've ignored all season long. This is great. This is awesome. It's what they're doing. They are creating storylines, creating controversy, creating awareness right now because they finally have to admit that the Denver Nuggets have a chance. This is represent the west. I am sure this is unbelievable. I am sorry. They're doing and they are now, we've been talking about this now for what? 90 seconds, almost two minutes, what they're doing is they're doing a full thing here, full package where it's yoga highlights, most of them passing. Mixed in with Kendrick Perkins making his rants against jokic. JJ Redick saying, are you freaking kidding me? Right. Stephen a Smith with a look on his face, like I can't believe you're saying this. And it's going on and now they're going to have, oh, can we roll on this fever? Now they're going to have a debate. Now we're going to have a debate. Yes. JJ, Kendrick Perkins, Steven a Molly, I mean, no disrespect,

"Your bath or shower remodel, bath fitter doesn't just fit your bath. They fit your budget and schedule. Bath bitter will install a tub or shower in just one day. Bath fitters price guarantee is a slam dunk bath fitter. It just fits. Welcome to four down territory. And stinkin might take a look at the four biggest stories in Denver sports. Here's Lara then Evans kicking it off with first down. We await. It's like the head coaching search. That worked out well. Yeah, yeah, and I'm still confident that Sean Payne will get the right guy. Because his defensive coordinator, but we continue to wait. In the meantime, they would appear to be looking to fill other spots as you went out to dinner last night with a guy named Greg manusky. Yeah, it's actually minus key. Minus key calm the new. So not minus key. No, no I'm in this. Minus key. Like, musky. Yeah. Hasma, husky, my mosque, nuske. Longtime coach, player was a teammate of yours, a roommate of yours in Washington back in the day, but he's in town to interview for the linebackers position. You know, call me old fashioned, but I would normally think that a defensive coordinator would hire those guys, but at least now that does not seem to be the case. But one thing that does seem to be a trend that's developing. These coaches are going to be experienced coaches, aren't they? No doubt. And I for one couldn't be happier about that. I mean, you have some young coaches that you're grooming, but you've been around. Yeah, exact street you've been around. Who'd they hire as a tight ends coach, that clean or something like that? Doing Declan or keep talking somebody, somebody deck lens. Sausage fingers activate sausage fingers activate. So, but you've been around him from New Orleans. You've been around these guys. You know what they're made of. You know, they understand the grind. So anyhow, I'm really excited about that after a year last year where it was the blind leading the blind. They had the three blind mice. Orchestrated Nia, the Broncos. Second down. Meanwhile, the Broncos have a decision to make when it comes to draymond Jones, the franchise tag window opened yesterday continues through March 7th, our 9 news Bronco insider Mike cliff says the Broncos have no intention of tagging Jones right now and if they do, it would be closer to that march 7th deadline, so how do you read that? Is that hoping that you can lock him up? Lock him up between now and then? Yeah. Or that they're still waiting, maybe to see who their defensive coordinator is going to be. Obviously, new staff, new staff, but some of the old principal people that are still there think that that dude has superstar potential. And I tend to agree with him. I think he's, I think he's a star in the making. So why not try to get him locked up to a more long-term deal? Now, if you're him, why not hit free agency if you can? Who else? Like if you could get him locked up and do a long-term deal, is there anybody else on this roster? That's worthy of a franchise tag other than him? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. No. In terms of unrestricted free agents. Well, who else do you have besides ten time pro bowler? Dalton reisner? And he appreciated? Yes. He is on the cusp of ten straight pro bowls. It's going to kick in any year now. Yeah. This could be the year, so maybe you do want a franchise tag. I don't think I don't think you're going to. But draymond Jones, let me play devil's advocate here. You already have a really good interior player in DJ Jones. You know, if you pay big money again to another interior lineman, named Jones, named Jones, you're keeping up with the Joneses. But you have too many Joneses. Are you paying big money to too many Joneses who play inside? Well, then you could switch the thing to Jimmy's and Joneses. So the X's and O's are the jimmies and Jones. Answer the question, please. You don't have too many Joneses. Was that the question? Yes. Yeah, no. You can never have enough Joneses. Are you going to, like you say this all the time? And I hate to give you credit for anything. I know. But you can't have enough good players. And that dude's a good player. Yes. Now you would like to get him locked up on your terms, but what do we always say? Are you going to do that? You got a lot of guys up early, so they have, they have the specter of having to play having to earn it and staying healthy. Hey, look, I know players hate the franchise tag, but you did agree to it in the collective bargaining agreement. Players agreed to it. So it's a tool for teams to use, and in this case, use it. Oh, yeah. If you can't work out a deal, use it. He'll play, not gonna sit out. You won't be happy, but he'll play. Right. So, I don't think he's going anywhere. I don't think so either. Third down. Came a car isn't going anywhere for the time being. He's going to miss this weekend's games. Because he's back in the concussion protocol. Now he went into the protocol about ten days ago when he got hit in the first game after the all star break. Had the concussion, got cleared, came back, got hit in the St. Louis game on Saturday, the reason why he wasn't taken out of the game by the independent spotter, they had one of those at NHL games like they do at NFL games. And why the avalanche, I guess didn't really respond like it was another concussion because his visor in the collision is visor came down his nose. And so they just thought it was a nose issue. Well, it turned out. It was another hit to the head. And again, put them into concussion symptoms. And now he's out for the week. So bad luck. Or does it call into question how the NHL? How the avalanche? Handle kale mccart. No, I think it calls into question everybody based on the fact that you're coming off concussion protocol and I get the nose thing. How come is Spicer? Must have been the way the helmet yeah, just get twisted and pushed down and by the way, in all seriousness. Don't you need a little bit better. Helmets and face masks and chin buckles in hockey.

"You know how, you know how I feel about freedom. But Graham Lucas was a third rounder. They took Charles cross in the first round to play left out. They started two rookie tackles. And they went to the playoffs. But if you're smart about free agency, yeah, and you're not looking to win free agency. Hey man, you can really improve your football team. Absolutely. Yeah, the DJ, DJ Jones, CJ Jones. Terrific. Phenomenal. Yeah. Phenom. Randy Gregory. Not so much. He was hurt. Who would have ever seen that coming? Exactly. Shocked us all. Yeah. 5 times tonight it didn't happen. By the way, as you drive around today and look at that snow coming down right now here in the Texans beautiful, but it's winter, but just for a moment, close your eyes, be careful. "Yeah, and I think they have to take the niners to 8 and a half and take the chiefs to like plus 5. Yeah, so I have a niners chiefs teaser from earlier in the week when the lime was moving down, but it gave us the two two and a half point lines. And I think taking it then made sense. I wouldn't necessarily tease the chiefs through one. Through the mine line, I don't think you have to do that at this point. Eagles and irons is really tough to handicap on the spread. I look at eagles minus two, and I'm like, that's too much for me. Equals money line, maybe. Minus two, I don't know, one point game, you know, running it. This is a very difficult weekend a handicap on the spread. The mahomes injury with chief Bengals, and then the lack of history between niners eagles, right? We've had so many rematches, where I've been able to go back and watch and say, okay, well, these teams will do this against those, and that's not the other thing. Eagles niners is a huge unknown. And the differences in play styles and coaching staffs and how they operate makes it a really tough game to handicap. What's your favorite prop better the week? Right, so I brought it up. The niners defense against Russian quarterbacks, I think, is a big issue for them. And I think that they're also going to do a good job hassling Jalen hurts in the pocket. When Jalen hurts gets hassled in the pocket, he talks and he runs. Jalen hurts rushing yours right now over 46 and a half on FanDuel, but I love. I've got Jalen hurts rushing your eyes and just about everything I can get at him. It hurts to score a touchdown on all sorts of fandoms plus one 25. I think that's a mistake. Again, talking about between the 20s, I want the eagles to be a true running team. Let the office of line come part off the ball. Win that way. Well, once you get inside of the ten, yeah, you're not going to start doing as much RPO stuff. Now you're really just going to run it between the tackles. That's the eagle's biggest advantage in this game. AJ Brown and devonte Smith against the ongoing war absolutely is an advantage. The biggest eagles advantage is when they let their line come hard off the ball in the running game against this niners front. The niners lost DJ Jones, right? Like elite defensive tackle nose tackle run stopper, this off season, and did not replace them. Jawon kinlaw, first round pick, they wanted to be this guy. He's not. He struggled so much against the run Eric Armstead is like a great run defending defensive tackle, but he's the only guy in the interior who's like actually a big and large and wide and tough to move. They are eminently movable between the tackles. So I think you're going to see running backs and Jalen hurts rushing quarterback score for the eagles when they get down low. So hertz over rushing yards hurts anytime touchdown. I think the eagles win it on the ground. Eagles -13 and a half plus three 40. Oh, brother. That's your black purdy blows up game. Yeah. I could see it. I think if we get a blow, I think we're more likely to see it in chief spangles. Because eagles niners is a situation where both defenses can get them back in the game and kind of get stopped and it's going to be a little bit more like punching back and forth. Chiefs bangles, I can see a position where I lean chiefs this game, but for both offense as I can see takeover games happening in a way that I'd be surprised to see fully for this eagles matters game. Pretty interception is minus one 64 on FanDuel. I look for the two interception bet and they don't do it. They don't have like super negative bets, I guess, just in general. Has that been fun to do like a four interception plus 500, something like that would have been a fun flyer. Is that over under interceptions? No, no, no. For him to throw one interception, I think, is minus one 64. Right, so there's no zero interception option? I don't think so. If

"The all 22. Sure. The coach's film. Sure. He's like, take a look at this. Let me show you this. Look at Russ. This guy's open. He's got to see him. He doesn't see him. What does the no, no. So I thought to myself, it's a film set. Self. Yes. Why should I be the only one to benefit from all this? Why should I be the one to get this kind of rich broken down analysis of what's going on? So we came up with what does the film say? I gave you a homework assignment at the end of yesterday's show. I know how much you love when I give you homework assignments. Very simple task. Because the Broncos are getting ready to face Derrick Henry this week. I'd like to know coming off the London game in which Travis ATN ran very well put up big yardage against the Broncos. What did you see in the film? And what does that tell you about the Broncos get ready to face King Henry? Okay. What does the film say? Right. What does the film say? Well, I'm trying to how many yards? Can you look at how many yards did ETN have? Oh, I'll get this specific. I think it was about one 50. Was it? Are you sure? 150? I didn't realize that need specific numbers. Well, I mean, we're going into what does the film say? Yeah. What does the stat box say? 24 carries for a 156 yards. I told you. That's a lot of yards. Here's what I would tell you. Which is 6 and a half yards of carry. And when you look at when you look at those numbers, you're like, wow. Wow, they really got run through. And then you kind of break it down a little bit further, Mike. So I went through every touch that ETN had. And one of the cool things about my system is I can put in I can plug in any down and distance. I mean, I can plug in any parameter you want. So you can say give me all the third down and all the third down and 7 pluses, right? And I plug it in and go, and I've got them all, right? Anything you want. So I don't look at individual coverages. So I can look at, hey, give me all the cover ones. Hey, give me all the whatever. Anything you want to put in there, I can look at. So I just basically put in every touch that ETN hat. And I will tell you, I walked away from that knowing that he had put up a lot of yards, right? And looking at those stat lines that you mentioned, they surprised me because I thought the Broncos really defended well. Interesting. Okay. Really well. Because again, the numbers say no way. Right. So one thing you have to understand about the Broncos is they're going to play for the most part with light boxes. They're not going to be putting you in a situation where they roll in a safety down early and letting you know that they're playing some type of post tie safety, right? They're not going to do that. They're going to play that tube that Shell look and they're primarily going to stay in there and they're going to ask their corners to read what's going on in the end with the tight ends and the tackles. And then run fill. And let me just tell you the K one Williams can do that. Obviously, I mean, you look at anybody Justin Simmons is great at that stuff. Jackson ring Jackson's phenomenal. So they're all good at it. I will tell you, they had one 50 plus yard run. Off of basically a counter. It depends on what team you're talking about. The Minnesota Vikings called their scissors play. And so off of off of what you are, what your staple is, the mid zone stuff that they run. They run a lot of mid zone stuff. And it's amazing because they had like one or two times they ran this counter off the mid zone. So they're in shotgun, right? And they're running that zone read, mid zone, 14, 15 hand off, basically, right? And so they're running a bunch of that stuff. And we are whipping their asses up front. And they're a big physical team. You talk about DJ Jones and draymond Jones and they are physically, I'm watching DJ Jones, and he stabbed in two dudes. One guy's got his right hand right in the middle of the chest. The other guy's got with his left hand and the middle chair. And it's almost like it's almost like a cartoon where he's gonna knock their heads together, right? And they're both fall down, and then he makes a tackle. He's just linebackers are free flow and everything else, and it's pretty incredible. DJ Jones was a stud free agent pickup, wasn't he? Oh my gosh. And second wave free agent pickup. Just dominate. And then the same thing, the same thing. I mean, they're defending the run, and they're defending it with lighter boxes. They're not committing, they're not committing people down there. And they're getting down there late. So there was that the counter play, so the back is on the left hand side of the quarterback in shotgun. And he takes this counter step in like they've been running, and they let guys flow and then they circle them. And then he takes off out the backside, and that's the one he got about 50, whatever it was, 55 yards, I don't know exactly how long the run was. So of that 156 yards on 24 carries over 50 of it came on one play. And it was probably for the Broncos and un scouted look. Meaning it was something they put in specifically to balance or counter off of what they run, the majority of plays off of. And they ran that play, they ran that play twice. The second time the Bronco stuffed it for about a two year game. Have a quick takeaways as I'm listening to you. Awesome breakdown. What is the film say? Draymond Jones in the wake of what we just heard from draymond Jones saying, you know, I'm here right now. Is this guy a must must must sign? Yes. Resign? Sooner rather than later without question. Okay. And here's the deal. Have you gotten to the point now where he's just looking at why would I sign a contract now? I'm going to be I'm going to be one of, if not the number one free agent acquisition player in defensively in football. And then just really, really quick. Then they got two or three other like 12 yard plays. One where they ran just an outside play off of an orbit motion that was a really good fake by the quarterback and by the receiver and you had singleton going the wrong way and anyhow, long story short, they had like two or three 12 yard runs. The rest of the runs were zero, one, two, two, one. So they had a couple of breakouts one on a wham play. They got big yardage and Etienne. Let me just tell you, he runs hard, he runs over for you. That's going to be something broken tackles and those type of things. Well, it's going to be my last question. After looking at the film, where's your level of confidence in being able to contain Derrick Henry? I think of it this way. Derek Henry by himself is not going to beat you. I think they play run defense and that was the thing that blew me away. They're really good. Really good flow. A couple of just a couple of plays that broke out a little bit for 8, ten yards where Josie Jewell gets jumps in the wrong gap, tries to outmaneuver a dude and gets caught in there. Really good backs, but I look at the way they play up front, they'll give up some yards because there will be a couple broken tackles and there will be guys some guys out of position here

"The Dodgers. They spend money. They develop prospects. Right. Like you would hate the Yankees, right? They're not the same. There's not the same level of vitriol when it comes to not for me, but maybe for some rocky fans. They would look well now. I mean, come on, DK, can't get tickets to the rockies games when the doctors are in town. Good point. Everybody's in blue. I'll do it for the morning brew, bring that to each and every morning. At 6 30. It's a tell me why I'm wrong Wednesday where we give you a chance to assault. I told you so island and knock mark down a peg or two. Yeah, you guys are you guys ready? To start, we had a strong argument for the trade of Christian McCaffrey, but you batted that down, but it took some effort. It did take a little effort because I would love nothing more to have Chris McCaffrey here. I just don't think it's solves your issues right now. Tell me why I'm wrong next. You were listening to schlereth and Evans on Denver's sports station, one O four three the fan. All right, here we go. Let's get the armada. Out there and sail. You want to attack right now. I told you so long. I want to knock mark down a peg or two here. So here we go. Let's see if we can get Mark to me. You're not wrong. This one's from shaner. Nemesis. Nemesis. Do we figure out what the plural of nemesis? Hackett's a smart smart guy. Most of the time. So if he said nemesis is, I'm going to go with nemesis. He said shaner says this. You bozos made fun of my text on air before the season started, it said nothing has changed. Broncos brought in a washed up veteran quarterback of first time coach who is in way over his head and continue to ignore right tackle middle linebacker and often overpay for injured free agents. I wasn't wrong then. Tell me why I'm wrong now. And if thinker does agree with me, he has to start selling shaner sunblock on I told you so island to block out the memory of admitting my dominance over him. Oh God. I'm rooting for this now. I'm going to go to fight. I'm going to go to battle here for Shane. Let's go. One. What changed? First and foremost, week 5, it's a little bit too early for you to take a victory lap shaner. Washed up free agents, DJ Jones is playing as well as anybody on the defensive line in football when it comes to the inside position defending the run. The guy has been a dominant force. So I would say pump your brakes on sign up washing, overpaying, washed up free agents. That guy has been really good for them, okay? The right tackle position, you address it, you just, you try to address it with what Billy Turner and Billy Turner, I don't know what's going on there. I mean, obviously the guy still hurt and can't play. As far as the washed up quarterback talk, he is like, he is not playing well. He has not played well. But I'm telling you right now, the one thing that I will not stand for. And I will not put up with is, he's completely washed, he hit 33, and he's washed. That is such a bunch of garbage. Now, is he playing well? No, is he seeing the field? No, is he comfortable with this offense? No. Do I think they need to do exactly what Sean Payton suggested on the Sunday countdown show or whatever it is on Fox? I don't know what we call that on Fox. What do we call the fox based fox pre game show? Is that what it is? Sure. Why not? The Fox pregame. Sounds great. You need to have a little sit down meeting. And I hope this is, I hope the way he's played here recently, especially Thursday night is humbling enough for him. Is a point of humility to say, okay, I got to get back to doing what I do well, not trying to become somebody that I'm not. I understand that you want to become Drew Brees. You know you're not going to become you're not becoming Drew Brees. Over the course of an off season. That is something that's going to take a lot of time. So let's go baby steps on this one. But to sit there and suggest that he's washed up because he's missing, there's nothing wrong with him throwing the football. And when he does scramble, and he scrambled a couple times, you're recently, he's still looks dynamic as an athlete. So there's nothing wrong with that. To suggest that this is just that he hit 32 or 33 and now he's over. He's terrible. That is just lazy. That's lazy commentary. That's easy. Now he's missing stuff, Mike. Obviously, he doesn't he's not familiar or he's not good in what they're asking him to do right now or what he's telling them they're going to do right now. And at some point you have to come to you have a little come to lord meeting with yourself and with your coach about what am I going to do that I'm good at and let's put me in a position to win. And if that means going back and really dissecting what they did a lot in Seattle, get under center more. But we had brought you on yesterday, our Seattle whisperer. And he said, basically, don't pin this on Hackett and don't go start talking about how Sean Payton said you got to play Russ's best hits from Seattle. This is Ross. This is Russ, sure. This is what Russ wants. simply following along. And it's Hackett's marching orders to do what Russ wants to do. And this is all about Russ. Wanting to change the way he plays quarterback. And if you are somebody that believes and I believe it's strongly as well that Russ is trying to take on too much too soon in evolving into Drew Brees, it needs to be a more gradual progression and he still needs to hang on and still continue to do the things that made him Russell Wilson in the first place, but this is a Russell Wilson issue. It's a Russell Wilson decision. Nobody else is. Right. So that's wrong. Again, and here's another area that I'm available for. If you want to hire me as part of your team, I'll give you, I'll give you the straight skinny. I'll let you know when you're being an idiot. I'll say, hey Russ, that's stupid. I'm the optics guy. Arrest. If I were you, you know what I would do? I would play better. You know how you play better? Do you think you're familiar? I'm gonna give you a different title. Wow. Not optics guy. You just need to be Russ's truth teller. The truth teller, truthiness. You need to be his truth teller. You need to be the guy that says Russ, that tweets a dumb idea. Russ, pimping hats when your crowd is leaving in droves before an overtime game is a bad tweet. Russ, the kind of offense you want to run right now, bad idea. I need a truth teller in his life. What would that, what would that actual title be though? Not just that you can't say, I love truth teller. But Russell, what's your title? Here's my card. Just as Mark schlereth, Russell Wilson's truth teller. The truth whisperer I like truth teller, you do? Yeah, 'cause whisperer, truth whisperer is like, you're like, hey, you might want to do this. You might want to do that. No, no. Truth teller is, hey, dummy. The way it's going to be. Truth whisperer sounds like that little noid on his shoulder. Idiot. Don't push send. That's stupid. And he's like, what? What's wrong? Don't say let's ride after

"Right, here we go. Good morning everybody, happy. What is it? Thursday, Thursday. Wow, we just flying along. Look at Mark slurry. I get to see your man, dude. I don't normally get to see your hair. Yeah, yeah. Normally you had a baseball cap on every single day, but folks. If you get a chance to watch us on Twitch or check us out at Denver fan dot com. You will see Mark schlatter's glorious lettuce. Hey, I'm the spawn of poolside. What can I say? You must have some sort of speaking engagement today. That's the only thing that can explain this. You're exactly right. I'm going to leave here after the show. And I'm going to go speak, and then I'm going to go home, and then I'm assuming a Carl picked me up and gave me the airport. Yes. Yes. A white panel van. A light panel man. Windows blacked out will be picking you up. The big sign that's handwritten and says slower. Not spelled out correctly. Spelled incorrectly. Ah, right in. Sure, where are we going? Let's go. Let's go. This sounds great. I trust you. Well, good to have everybody here with us on this Thursday morning. Coming up here in about ten minutes. We'll hear from the great Joel klatt, who brought the heat yesterday in talking about Nathaniel Hackett. You'll want to hear that if you missed it yesterday or even if you did hear, you want to hear it again. You've got Seattle this week. You've got Seattle. San Francisco. So as part of your vigorous preparation, you've had a chance to watch the coach's tape from Monday night. Yes, I did. I did. I did. Focusing on Seattle I understand, but got any Bronco observations that jumped out at you? Well, you know, you focus, you focus on the team that you're doing it at home, but you can't help but see guys who flash. And there were three guys in particular that really, really flashed for me. DJ Jones, DJ Jones just wrecks the middle of football field. That dude was like, I don't know statistically what is what is that line was. But man, he was hitting people in the backfield. He was just constantly creating pressure, just dominating people in the run game. I mean, absolutely dominant in the run game. So he was like, I thought he was pretty special. I told you this when we signed him and everybody's like, oh, you signed the guy to a $1 million whatever contract and he is what he is and you know he's a backup and he's the guy that gets to play. Alex singleton is a football playing Jesse. That dude just plays. And as if Josie choux comes back healthy, you got to replace, you got to replace Griffith. With Alex singleton. He's just a better football player. And one of the big things is spatial awareness, that dude just understands the game. And he's got great just great spatial awareness so you'll see him squeeze like on some type of shallow cross and he's like a hook to face. He's just defending yeezy in an area. And he'll squeeze, squeeze, squeeze that, but he keeps his eyes on the quarterbacks. We kind of takes that throw away, and then the quarterback turns, and he just plants and goes the opposite way and knocked down a pass, make a tackle. I mean, he's just all over the place. I just think the guy, I really do think he's a great football, not a good football player, a great football player. Wow. I really do. Now, he doesn't have prototypical size or probably prototypical 40. He's like the guy that doesn't do well at the combine test, but just shows up and makes plays all over the place. And just sticking on the defensive side of the ball, that's her tan. Is a superstar. A superstar. And the effect that he had, listen, DJ, or DK may have caught 7 balls or whatever. 36 yards. They threw it underneath like on little hitch routes when pastor Tam was off coverage. You know, he's ten yards, 12 years off the ball. And they threw it underneath him, and he just come up and stick him and say, DK Metcalf, and I've done a bunch of Seattle games. Is arguably probably not arguably the most physical receiver in football. I mean, the most physical receiver of football, that's your tan hit him in the mouth. Passer Tanner had zero, there was zero concern. And his pattern matching skills, his ability to read what DK was doing and break on routes and he was not good. He was freaking phenomenal. Shutting down, I mean, shutting down anything they tried to run deep. Man, he matched him, stride for stride, pattern for pattern. It was like he was breaking before DK was breaking, knowing what the pattern was. So not only athletically incredibly gifted, very physical, but obviously to be able to do that, you've studied your ass off. You know, you kind of understand based in this formation in this motion and this, whatever, man, this is what's coming. And he was in, he was in DK's hip pocket. On a bunch of deep balls that were either the quarterback just went away from him, or he tried to throw him in there and DK and pass their Dan just knocked him down. Well, you noticed that looking at the coach's tape, the guys that have played this game noticed that just watching on TV as we mentioned yesterday, reaction to patser tan Darius slay, tweeted out man, patser tan, one of the best press technicians in the game, I know it's only year two, but y'all gotta watch his film and tell me different Richard Sherman said, bro, he looks like a ten year vet, asante Samuel, said Patreon. You are going to be a great player in the NFL, my boy. DJ Jones to back up what you talked about, four tackles, three of them, solo, that's an impressive stat line from an interior defensive lineman like that. And Alex singleton was your leading tackler tied with a guy we're going to talk about here in a little bit, both Alex singleton and Justin Simmons, 9 tackles apiece to lead the way for the Broncos on defense and tackling. And we'll talk about Simmons and his loss and what that means for the Broncos coming up in the brew. But strong words from our Joe klatt, he did not like what Nathaniel Hackett did the other night and you'll hear why next. It's in Evans on Denver's sports station. One O four three, the band. Always want to make sure the great 6 a.m. listeners get a chance to hear the best of our buddy Joel clad who comes on Wednesdays. Just after 8 o'clock and asked him, of course, what he thought about Nathaniel Hackett's decision to try that 64 yard field goals instead of letting Russ cook. Just glad he's not in Vegas with my money because this guy doesn't understand odds to save his life. I mean, probability is just totally escaping this guy's mind. Do you know that it's about 45, 50% conversion rate on a fourth and 5? Maybe even if you want to go low end, like 40%, you know what the probability of making a 64 yard field goal is 8, 8%. Great choice, broseph, unbelievable. Who is this guy? Don't call your timeouts. Don't worry, I'm gonna use them when they're taking a knee. Hey man, this ain't her Edwards in the eagles, bro, you're not winning that once you've tried a 64 yard field goal. That

"The professional journeyman put forth. Did you watch drew lock in the pro season game against Dallas the other day? I did, he should be doing anything but playing football at this point in his career. I don't know what happened because the arm talent is there. Not all they're upstairs. I don't think. You asked about some of the parts around Russell Wilson. I think they're improved. Broncos finished 16th in pass block win rate. Billy Turner, who spent three years in Green Bay with Hackett, played the best ball of his career there. I think that upgrades the right tackle position, Turner finished 11th among tackles and pass block win rate. You have Garrett Bowles Dalton reisner. Quinn miners, Graham glass now. They're battling out for the other guard spot. It was good to see Lloyd cushion Barry improve in year two as the starting center. I think the offensive line has the potential to make a little bit more of a leap this year. And you think about it in this context because I know you were initially thinking weapons. I'm thinking offensive line because of what Russell Wilson dealt with in Seattle the last ten seasons. Not once did the Seahawks offensive line grayed out as an average pass blocking offensive line in any single season with Russ under center. If you look at that. I figured that part would be a no brainer, 'cause he didn't have an offensive line before, so by default he could have taken 5 people out of the stands in Denver and he'd rather significantly better pass protection in this offense. You look at that ten year stretch. The average pass blocking finish was 26. So this is easily the best offensive line Russell Wilson's played behind receivers and backs are young with a ton of upside Jerry Judy missed 6 games last year with a serious ankle injury still finished fourth and target separation versus man coverage. KJ handler is kind of the forgotten guy towards ACL in September. It was good to see him back in the preseason. Be nice to have him get acclimated a little bit more courtland Sutton, another year removed from the ACL tear in 2020. You can tell he feels more comfortable because he's not wearing what looks like a 15 pound knee brace and camp that he wore all last season. Albert O is just a specimen at tight end 6 6 two 60 and he runs four, 5. He was targeted on 24% of his routes last season. Let's see if he kind of runs a few more routes and if Hackett trusts him, I know he was playing a little bit deeper into pre season games than we would have traditionally thought for a starting tight end, but Hackett wants to see him improve a little bit as a pass blocker. Denver did go out and draft dosage from UCLA in round three dealing with a little bit of an injury there, but it's a nice tight end group there. Running back room arguably top 5 in the league with javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon javonte finished 7th in yards created per touch. The yards javante accumulated on runs and receptions beyond what was blocked for him. He was also 6th innovative tackle rate. I think there's a lot to like here. And I think the kicker. The Broncos are projected to face the easiest schedule of passing defenses and overall defenses this season. Best thing you could possibly hope for when you're breaking in a new quarterback learning a new scheme under a new coaching staff. Such an interesting team because you highlighted some of the issues they had last year. You can make the case that if teddy Bridgewater had stayed healthy and been their starting quarterback all season long, they obviously would have had much better results than needing to go to drew lock for an extended period of time. But at this point, when you look at Russell Wilson, clearly a significant upgrade in Denver obviously in win now mode. As far as this team defensively, we know they needed to try and go out there and solidify their pass rush this off season. They did so in the well documented Randy Gregory drama, will he be a member of Denver? Will he be a member of Dallas? They also ended up bringing in a couple other pieces that should help DJ Jones along the defensive line, kawan Williams in the secondary. And Alex singleton to help to your point, you talk about losing Shelby Harris. The biggest thing for Denver last year will be, I mean, the plague them on this side of the ball was health. They lost a ton of man games to injury, but this is a defense under Vic Fangio that kind of built from the outside in. We know what Patrick surtain is and can be. This they've tried to really focus on building the secondary. And if their pass rush gets any better, this is a unit in my opinion pain that has a long way to go to try and jumping into the upper Echelon, but at the same time, they underachieved and were arguably one of the more disappointed stop units across the entire National Football League last season. You are spot on. And I'm interested to see what the new defensive coordinator does. Ever row is the fellow's name. He's from colchester, England. And this is really his first big shot. In the NFL, he spent 5 seasons coaching the rim secondary. The understanding is that there's going to be a ton of carryover from Vic Fangio's defense. Ever row is if you've read some things about them, you hear some of the coaches speak about him. It's very high. He's very buttoned up. He's been lauded for his professionalism and his attention to detail. And he's flat out said that good coaches adapt to the talent they have. I'm sure there's going to be some uniqueness to his defense, but you look at the scheme and even the verbiage is supposedly going to look and sound a lot like last year attacked the quarterback attack the ball and be situational masters are the three calling cards of ever rose defense that he wants. We'll see if that comes to fruition. I think there's a ton of variance with the Broncos defense projecting ahead on paper. There's a lot of big names, Bradley Chubb. What is he? To this point, the idea of him being von Miller's replacement hasn't really gone well. Played 7 games last season at zero sacks and admittedly said it was his worst year as a pro. It's a money year. I would expect a bounce back, but even in 2020, which was Chubb's best year. He got to the quarterback 14% pressure and on pass rush snaps for his size. You look at a guy 6 four two 70. He's a below average Ed Sutter in the run game and he's a horrific tackler. You mentioned Randy Gregory and the drama that went down there. It was a money year last year, played his best season 14% pressure in on pass rush snaps. He's got explosiveness. He's got length. He's super strong for his size. So the traits have always been there, but he's almost 30 years old. He's never had more than 6 sacks in a season. We know the past off field issues. There's a reason why. Only 28 of the $70 million contract is actually guaranteed is a variance player. Then you have Nick bonito, someone I'm familiar with South Florida kid has serious potential as a pass rusher, 25% pressure rate at Oklahoma last season. You can use them as a blitzer. My guess, he becomes a situational pass rusher this season, but the word is, he hasn't quite hit the ground running in camp. That trio is interesting of chub Gregory and bonito. They have to step up because the Broncos 27th in pressure rate last season from the moment von Miller was traded for the entire season. Denver was 32nd in team pass rush win rate. DJ Jones was signed this off season to help plug the middle number one and run stop win rate last year. Jones, Mike Purcell, deshaun Williams makes a solid interior. I think the hope is the front 7 can stay healthy this year. You kind of hinted at some positive regression for health there, the Broncos had the third most injured defense last season. Secondary is interesting with certain and Simmons.

"As stinkin might take a look at the four biggest stories in Denver sports. Here's lariat and Evans kicking it off with first down. That's something we've I've seen off the line, get a little bit freaked out about because we always say a block until the balls out. And that sometimes is a little bit longer because people understand the play. So it's gonna be have to be something they get used to, but I am very excited about this line. You know, they've done a fine job, especially coming in, introducing a new system, that outside its own system, the password protection system. A lot of things that are different. And I think that they've really bought in up to this point. I mean, there's been a couple of guys that have been big surprises and not because they're not good, but because of how much they bought in and how much better they're getting every day. All right, there is Nathaniel Hackett. Is it just me Friday where we give you a chance to get stuff off your chest, give it to us in the form of is it just me? You've been watching the first couple of practice. I was standing next to you yesterday or you were doing like a tutorial to all of us out there. It was great stuff, learned a lot. What do you think about this offensive line thus far? Oh, I think, I mean, I think anything else is a work in progress, and you know, I don't think they've I don't think over the last few years, well, I know over the last three years, they haven't really ever majored in anything. So it's really hard to get, it's really hard to be efficient. You'll have some games where whatever scheme you run. The Miami game comes to mind where you ran a different scheme that week and you guys just eviscerated the dolphins and the running game, you had close to 200 yards rushing. That's great when it works, but you got to have things you can hang your hat on. You got to have things that you establish. You've got to have these kind of tank it plays, tank plays where you say, this is what we are. This is what we do and we can do it against anybody, any look anywhere, anytime, any place. And I think that's one of the things that one of the things they're trying to establish. Next on four down territory, I believe we are talking about singularity in and day out just to tell all across the board, the veteran leadership we have, and we just come out here and make plays each and every day. I believe we are top 5 secondary. Even a top segment of these. Abstract. We have to play of the day yesterday when he went up high in a marquee one on one matchup with courtland Sutton and deflected a ball away. Great played by PS two. What about his claim that this could be a top 5 secondary? Yeah, well, I think you look at him being a top flight cornerback. You look at the two safeties that you have to me, they're, you know, those guys are great, great players. Justin Simmons had an ice breakup on a deep ball over the top to Jerry Judy that he had a breakup. So I think there's, I think there's a lot to be said for that Ronald Darby can really run, but Ronald Darby coming out of, I think he was coming out of D.C. when we picked him up out of the wolf football team. Now they're what the commanders, but you know, talking to talking to a couple of different coaches. They felt like he's a really solid, good corner, probably should be a number two, not a number one. So you're pretty set up. Now, it just depends on how they play at the nickel position and then the backup safeties. And I think we've seen some young guys that have played really well. As nearly kind of picked up his game. So Williams, you're a fan of him, right? They want he's kind of like Callahan, you know, if he can stay healthy, he can be a really good player. Flashed a couple times already in this case. Sure. As well. So I would say it's just that corner opposite certain is the only question mark, probably the only thing standing between the Broncos and being a top 5 secondary. How that position how that played in film. Right. I would take it one step further. You play so much nickel. So much nickel. And K one Williams, who is a really good player in the slot? Like that guy, it really come upon that guy. That's that to me is the toughest part. Yeah, you have to be really good there. 5 guys. You really have to be good there. You have to include the slot. Next in four down territory. Third down. I think a lot of teams are going to the outside zone scheme. Lyman aren't as big as they used to be anymore, you know, these three 50 plus guys anymore and you know a lot of guys, you know, more lean and low 300s and just guys that are quick and fast off the ball of the game's changing. You know, the defensive line I mean, look at draymond Jones, you know, he's not, you think, you know, he doesn't belong in the league, but you know, he's so quick and fast and agile that he goes around or, you know, DJ Jones, which is just, you know, you're like, man, he may be a little slow, but he's quick off the ball, so the game's changing. Guys are getting faster, so, you know, you have to be more athletic. And so, you know, with me, I feel like I fit the scheme really well. Just due to, you know, who I am and, you know, my size and my ability to get out there and, you know, Craig Randy wings for a back. That's a pretty good X's and O's break down there of all offensive and defensive line play there from a Garrett Bowles.

"So lots of logical moves here for buffalo and they're on paper. As good as anyone in the AFC and let's see what happens this January. That's going to be the sad part for bill's fans. It all just comes down to January now. Yeah, and it's hard, right? Because I think they did a good job of upgrading, but here's the one thing that you never know, can you compensate for the loss of Brian dabel, you know? Yep. And so what does this end up mattering? But settle, I think, is a perfect bills player just beefy is going to push people back in the pocket. The high end higher end younger version of what you wanted out of star or latou lay, so really really good stuff there. The Broncos end up getting Randy Gregory here, a little bit of drama there with Gregory supposedly signing with the re signing with the cowboys and then landing with the Broncos. They also add DJ Jones as an upfield interior pass rusher there. And that's the thing for the first time in forever. We're looking at the Broncos and saying, well, they're pretty much set on offense. Let's see what they do defensively, pass rush with something to address number two corner with some new address. I wish they had gotten a little more athletic at the linebacker spot. There's obviously still the draft to go, maybe they do something there. But yeah, if you trust Randy Gregory to be on the field, sure, yeah. Gregory and Bradley Chubb. That's a nice tandem there. Never has played more than 50%, 53% of a team snaps, you know? I don't know. This one was an example of, I mean, you were on this from the beginning, Gary, and we're working on a fun story together about this, but this was the final sort of outcome of the boom of the edge market this year. I mean, Randy Gregory getting 70 million over 5 years, you know, a guy who really needed to kind of get back on track in Dallas and took some time and some patience that he wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. To sort of get him back on the field. And so yeah, I mean, kind of an interesting situation there, but I like everything else they did. You know, I like the interior stuff. I just don't know, you're gonna need Gregor to be on the field a lot, you know? And we just don't know if that's a possible thing or not, you know? In Pittsburgh, the sign Mitchell trubisky, that was one of the early signings here. Yeah. I mean, what was kind of wild to me was the way that the NFL accounts were kind of like trubisky, trubisky and the Steelers Jersey swap or the special sort of treated graphic that made it look like, I don't know, like Tom goes to the mayor undone..

"Right. I would be surprised if he won the MVP to me, that would be more. I'm thinking of the other variables with that. We both like javonte Williams. I think he's in the running for most improperly used guy from last season. And there's a world where he's fucking awesome. Judy comes back, Sutton's there and they just, he has like real weapons. Not that he did it and the Seahawks because he had two really good receivers, but he never as good as his running backs for. They were certain kind of running back. He never had a guy like Williams. That I can remember in Seattle, can you? Well, going back to lynch. Williams is sort of Marshawn Lynch like, you know, and his ability to break tackles and stuff. So I would say going back to lynch, that's but you're going back 8 years at this point, exactly. You know, Chris Carson's not like that. I think Chris Carson's a good running back, but he said certainly not the same. Right. He's not in the same realm or whatever. If a javonte wins in terms of his explosiveness and his ability to break tackles all that stuff, yeah, and plus I think their defense is going to be pretty good. So there's going to be shit. Let's audible to that. I mean, they got Randy Gregory and DJ Jones. Yeah. And I like their defense. Anyway, the Gregory thing was shocking. I thought that was an interesting point. People never leave the cowboys, you know? Unless it's like an obvious money difference. In this case, it didn't seem like it was an obvious money difference, and he just went anyway, but that guy for all his issues. He's one of those guys that jumps out when you watch football every Sunday. He's wreaking havoc for four quarters. Yeah, he's exposed to plus, I guess. Like obviously, you know, you and I both have kind of given the Broncos shit for taking certain last year when they could have taken a quarterback. Now, obviously, fast forward to the Russell Wilson trade now. That looks great. You can see the tan in the trade. Yeah. I know CX fans were definitely very disappointed that Satan was not a part of that trade. That was sort of one of the givens beforehand. Like obviously we sort of had this inkling that it could happen with the Broncos. And it was like everyone was like, oh, now a thousand. We got to get certain if we're going to have this trade. And then of course it didn't happen. Would you rather have the second first or certain? Because you'd rather have certain, right? Yeah, the second first is you're trying to get certain with that second first, right? A player of that caliber. He's already going to be like top tier players. So yeah, you take the bird in hand and Satan, I think. And I don't trust the Seahawks for use those first round picks anymore, which is another part of the reason I'm trying to just keep myself bad. This is where you break right now. This is where the tears come. Yeah, I think all of us football nerds, we all kind of like the Broncos the last couple of years, even though the actual product and results didn't match the stuff we liked. So now they add new coach, but then new QB and they're spending on defense, they're in a ridiculously good division. That division, that's going to be one of the better divisions we've had in a while. It feels like where Vegas is going to be the worst team in the vision. That team is going to be good. But, you know, it's set up for him. The psychology of it of he obviously felt a little marginalized the last few years. Whether that's right or wrong, didn't seem like he had the personnel say. Right. Didn't love whatever offense, but the thing is they kept changing the offense. He just didn't like whatever it was. And it was kind of like, is this Pete's team or my team seemed to be the fundamental thing, which we see with quarterbacks and coaches. Over and over again. And now he's going to go to Denver. It's clearly his team, his city. He's going to be the guy. He'll sell the most jerseys, it's all lined up for him. I just don't know if he's the same guy who was 8 years ago. I don't think he is. Yeah. I think what you're saying is very interesting because they did try and design new offenses for him or whatever quote unquote new offenses. They tried to bring in they did bring in new offensive coordinators like cycle through a few different guys. And so I know from the CX point of view, the Seattle fans, point of view I should say, some people just believe it's just there is a Russell Wilson offense and this is what they were running in Seattle. It's essentially like they're trying to get the best out of his skill set. So maybe this is what we see in Denver. That's why I'm kind of alluding to earlier. Maybe it's just going to be the same type of offense. I do think it matters that this is a new head coach in Denver because there's not going to be that tension of whose team it is. You know what I mean? Like Pete Carroll. That tension. It was never like outright. They were mad at each other, they hated each other, like they always got along, it seemed like Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll. But there is just like philosophically they never aligned. And so, you know, I think with the trade what they brought in in the trade, obviously they're bringing him in, they giving up a lot to bring him in. I think it's going to be Wilson's team and Hackett is the shepherd to kind of make it all work. But this is Wilson's team. I thought it was interesting. He never came on flying coach with when we had Pete Carroll and Steve Kerr as the coaches. Who Wilson or.

"I think he was in the right spot moving over to three technique there in Cincinnati. I'll take him on my team, same thing with DJ Jones and same thing on the nose with my guy, university of Connecticut's own folu, fatu kasi. Yeah, fatu kasi, baby. Yeah, DJ Jones beast. I think he really came on to. Like, I think there's still some ascent there. Like that's probably my buy. One of your highest ceiling. Guys there at that position. But man, you know, just looking at this list is crazy how much Cincinnati's gonna have to replace up front. To kind of reinvigorate Trey hendrickson and Hubbard and everything they got going on there. But you know, there's some guys here. You could make it work. I think you know, if you were like, if you're the Chargers, for example, like there's some stuff here, you could pick from to kind of make your make your deal happen, you know? And Sheldon Richardson is always going to be like hyper athletic and dutifully fill a space. So I don't know. I think there's some stuff to like there. Just go get fatu kasi, you'll eat some blocks for you. He'll make everyone on your line better. Go get them, Brandon staley. Big husky. The edge guys, lots of and look, we talk about the free agent class. These guys hit free agency for a reason. There's no perfect dudes out there. Everyone has some Maya red flags. Most of these edge guys, it's age at this point. Chandler Jones von Miller, let's see, Harold Landry is off the board at this point. To deviant Clowney. Clowney, Jerry Hughes. Jerry yuzu never misses time, but probably is ready for something of a reduced role. But these guys, they're older, but they age well and we've talked about it a lot in the last couple of weeks. We're going to keep on talking about it. These edge rushers are going to have a ton of value in a league that's going to be blitzing less. Yeah..

"Hundred ninety championship game arrival in the green bay packers sunday night. Football ninety four throwbacks. I think the place is going to be rocking. Fans are gonna be just out of their minds. I think that energy is going to you know. Just help the team and i think they're gonna come out More aggressive have these past few weeks. And i think that's just is gonna just gonna put their foot on the packer snacks. I think it's going to be like thirty one seventeen. It's going to be can be obliged. I think i think for not score points. I i mean the roger is going to have success just because he has an rogers. It's not going to be a blow out words. Thirty one thirty thirty one three was the first week for the saints in the packers but I just don't see how the packers slow them down and when that happens you saw what happens when the forty niners got up in the second half their defense just completely changes every body pins areas back so when you can go under the field with bosa armstead calm and then now. Hopefully ken law. It's tough men and and we have to credit to dj jones. Who was a baller. Last year. he was very good Again he's not gonna have the same type of stats when you see like. Qb hits box scores but he was winning a ton. I imagine his whatever password pass rush rate would be very high relatively speaking All all defense line. Very good new. We have fred warner who again making tacos at the line of skirmish. but he's best in coverage in. He's not going to be fooled by some of the things at the packers do so essentially limit the big play. Keep the ball in front of you. The packers sustained drives. Count on your pass rush to make plays in on the other side of the ball. Just get out of your own white man. Play your type of style offense awfully Ally mitchell doesn't leave meat on the bone. I do want to see more trae sermon. I wanna see more brandon just because those are you know you would think those your best players Moving forward anyway and jimmy just takes care of the ball. Those misses did hurt. And they're not going to be able to get away with some of the misses that he had on the intermediate level field because every team in the nfl back. That's where you want to attack them. You want attack in that. Twelve or ten eighteen are yan. That's susceptible in college. China knows eddin. We saw the wide open receivers last week so jimmy will have to make throws this game. There's no doubt about that so Do you think it's fair for us to assume that he's going to make those throws week. Generally he's been good in that ten nineteen range across the middle of the field. He struggled in that same during outside the numbers and last week was just a couple of mrs had won the new Just throws it. He just has to make right. And donna open receivers. Pf has the stat. Forty niners lead the nfl in targets where the wide receiver is open or wide open. So at least a yard of separation so sixty one percent of the time jimmy garoppolo story into an open receiver and that by far leads the nfl. And so kashia mike mcdaniel. They're doing their job. They're getting receivers open receivers doing their job. Running the routes getting away from db's jimmy garoppolo has to do his job. Just hit these receivers make plays and this is offense. Would just be unstoppable. Yeah it's not like he's being asked to make these difficult throws those layup throws at you know you on any. Nfl quarterback to make. I talked about that a little bit. Just breaking down his game because there are throws in this game where he just. Let's pose a trigger. He plays without any hesitation. When jimmy garoppolo plays like that the forty niners will not lose. I promise you there's it's very tough to beat this team when he's playing at that type of level when he is aggressive so if he just stays aggressive man they're going to be tough to be not against backers but against the seahawks cardinals every other team they face i think they give getting consistency out of jimmy and the running game will be big for them this week..

"To the left side, one to the right for Ohio State. Stroud works out of the gun leans in. There's the snap. He's got it back Looking a lot of time throws. It is caught crossing at the 35 yard line that is Garrett Wilson with it's fun down at the 39 14 yards, first down Dante Manning and coverage of the man who made the tackle. Excellent start to the drive again, Going in the direction of Wilson those two once again leading the team and receiving a lot eight catches for 60 yards in this game, and I believe that's sixth catch here for Garrett Wilson, Ohio State first down at their own 39 Stroud again out of the gun. He's got his title and record in motion to the left side. There's the snap, Stroud quick drove right side that is complete. Wilson again slips the tackle. The 40 gets across the 40 to 40. Three yard line. And finally brought down at the 44 5 on the play. Bennett Williams made the stop. Ohio State will go straight to the line on second down and five Stroud going up tempo clapping his hands Now he'll back out. Look over to the sideline. Get the play will shift Trayvon Henderson is running back to his right second down five guys from their own 44 down 14 3rd. There's the snap. Stroud, back with time steps into a throw, complete to lobby in Oregon territory goes down to make the catch at the 46 yard line of the Ducks. That's a nine yard gain in another Ohio State first half smart veteran receiver They're realizing that ball was a little short, coming back to make the catch. There's the snap gives to Henderson over the left side picks up a block spins down the 40. It gets to the 38 yard line. That's a really nice run through traffic for the freshman Henderson that time where Hudson finally made stop, but he picks up eight yards on first out. Showing a good bit of patients there and realizing that just because I think it stopped at the line of scrimmage, and you're not down yet doesn't mean plays over. Just continue to fight and see if you can find a little seem in the defense. Second and to Stroud takes the shotgun snap back wants to throw pumps once loads throws deep downfield. It is incomplete intended for Garrett Wilson. Good coverage out there. DJ Jones. Excuse the DJ James. I don't think that Wilson expected the ball to come his direction. And then once he saw it in the air,.

"It's bosa. Dj jones kimmel armstead and then on passing downs. Dj jones. armstead bosa on ford. Like i wouldn't that's probably how it would look or some type of rotation of for new. Come on those pass rush downs. Yeah affords ready to go. He he's going to be on pitch count for the rest of his career. It's not really something. He's in a start off the season on a pitch cow. And then come we eight. He's you know playing thirty snaps the game. No that's probably not going to happen. He's probably gonna play them around fifteen twenty snaps for the rest of his career per game But he's ready to go. I saw him live at the joint practices that they had with the chargers and forty niners. The guy actually got out there playing eleven on eleven and he looked really well. He looked like the two thousand. Nineteen deformed ford when healthy. So yeah it. He's he's ready to go. He's gonna play week one for sure. Obviously you hold him out of the preseason because what the hell you you need a d four pass rash or preseason game that you ran that in eleven on levin's already the difference is he's not allowed to take down the quarterback in those joint practices in the preseason game he can That's the only difference there you basically want to see his get off and you wanna see his banned from his defensive end position. He show that in the joint practices during eleven on. Levin's is ready to go absolutely and i'm excited from to be ready to go. I had heard through other media outlets that you know he may have retired. Injury was more serious and he wasn't ready to come back. He's worked his way back and i'm very happy for him to do so. The niners trying to reap the benefits of that and they redid the contract for a reason again. Which kind of gives me hope for june heard. Maybe rehab in mali. Back to full health. But we'll see how that richard healthy red shirt. That's what i'm calling it. Yeah that's kind of what it looks like before in on defense should be able to dominate. We just mentioned we mentioned the pass rush. We know about friend warner. We know about the secondary. We talked about it with josh norman jason verita in these corners. I'm sorry these corny receives. Why receivers you know tara williams. Amman rothstein saying brown was. You're those two best guys i mean. Who are these people khalif. Raymond tom kennedy could drill hodge and quintas. Safest like trinity. Benson couldn't see. Because i knew who he was because he played at. Wisconsin was a guy that i figured. We'd go late in the draft. He did but this. This wide room does not fear in anybody. Tj hodgkinson's pry pass attendant of the t. George cadle iowa products. That's somebody to watch out for in the running back room. We don't know what's up with the andrea swift. Who's battling injuries most of camp and then jamal williams formerly of the packers so again offensively th. There's nothing here that scares me versus this defense on the other side of the ball dan. Campbell spoke very highly of deebo. Samuel spoke very highly of call shanahan. And how he likes to use eye candy and dress things up verses a defense another small prediction here leading receiver on sundays. Be deebo samuel over one hundred receiving yards for deebo samuel on sunday fully. Expect that i think gang came a fully expects the jet sweeps reverses the bubbles. Whatever deebo can give you. He's going to give it to you on sunday. Anything on defense. Where you with the lions man. I i look at that With deal samuel. I love. I would love that matchup if i have deebo samuel and fantasy football because when you look at what they have. It's their linebacking core. alex anzalone. he's not good. He's good Jamie collins is only good in bill belichick system or not system but with bill jack in the new england patriots. Take him out of the patriots building. He's a below average player And so you're going to have those your two inside linebackers. If you're the detroit lions yes he kyle. Shanahan could run those horizontal jet sweeps all day. Because neither one of those two linebackers are sideline to sideline linebackers and call shannon's and be able to pick apart this defense through the middle because they are not strong through the middle of their defense. Tracy walk the third at free safety at strong safety. You've got we'll harass another player. I like jeff ikuta coming out of college at corner but he was not it last year. Right lions so you know you're twos things could change but this does defense. They have a lot of holes lot of holes That they gotta fill will shannon's yeah. He just runs jet suites with deebo all day like it was the rams game or the patriots game last year. There's a ton tons of yak yards to pick up against his defense because they're not sideline to sideline players and be year one with the new head coach. And it's not like this defense was top five defense before Before the new regime took over. So yeah there may be some growing pains in when you have kyle shanahan week one. That's definitely going to be a part of the growing pains because he could have a hell of a game plan for defense like this is not sideline aside line. Who's not very horse. Who who can't play horizontally very well tell they probably even Vertically very well so cow shannon. He's in have field day whether he wanted to be. Deebo kittle or i you could literally kinda like what they say out there. Choose your fighter. Choose your fighter as your weapon. if you're shanahan. Yeah if you're a you know if you're one of those guys who got a quarterback laying your fancy drafts and you don't like the current quarterback. I probably suggests dreaming jimmy garoppolo in this game. I don't know that's just me. I'm one of those guys i usually. I try to find a streaming quarterback depending on a match up. That could be one where you could reap the benefits. Twenty twenty five points at at jimmy. Garoppolo would be ideal. I'm not a fantasy expert. But i've done that before it's it's it is helpful to stream sometimes The only guy that kind of interested in looking at this entire game on defense for the lions is. Melanie got to see him in person at the senior bowl like everything about him. He's a really good pick for the lions. It was a guy that. I hope that we're going gonna take but they did not. They went with a They went with trae sermon. And obviously aaron banks in those rounds so it's a team that's lacking in town. There in rebuild mode is why matthew stafford got traded they rebuilding all over again. It's just not a winning organization so the niners should be able to go.

"Let's talk about another battle here. Yeah battle nose. Tackle battle The one tech is there possibly an open competition for that as well liked cornerback to spot Because when you look at it. The forty niners freakin loaded. They are loaded in their interior defensive line. I'm gonna go ahead and say some guys who could potential be won. Tek starters out there whether they do or they don't. That's a different story but these are the potential base defense won tek nose. Tackle starters. zakar giovane cain law. Dj jones maurice. Hurst who would have been a first round. Pick by the way having givens out of heaviest penn state state. Maybe we are darrien daniels. I don't think he gets it but you know he he's in there. It's those are five deep. I'm going to say five. The book is you know needs to be written on dairying daniels side. I need to see more from him. to have a true opinion. But five deep. Kerr ken law hers. Jones givens but literally five guys like hal. Shanahan said five guys Ca start at the base one tech position. Like who do you think rises to out of this so at least at least your top three. Is that rice. So i spent time last night Anyone looking at my twitter line The night before. We're recording now so sunday night. Just watching some carolina cut ups and is that kurds stands out a lot right. He i think he's gonna be the starting nose tackle issue i think he provides just a number of flexibility. He was the highest graded defensive player for the panthers last year. Right wow for according to. Pf right he defends his his defensive grade was eighty four point. One run defense was seventy seven point. Eight and pass pass rush with seventy seven point seven four sacks six. Qb hits nine hurries to bed at balls. Thirteen tackles one tackle. And i wanted to say one forced fumble on the of to pf. How graded i part of me. Watching him was me looking at how this defensive line work because i think he gives you a little bit more positional versatility as opposed to a dj jones is opposed to a kevin givens or maurice. Hurst i think he allows you to utilize him in a way. Where you if you're gonna use the wide nine right. The middle. The middle the defenses defensive lines more spread out right so there's a couple. There's a lot there's a lot more than a couple but there is a lot of film of him outside shade of the guard on either side and the pass rusher. Who is a wider outside. Like brian burns would get a one on one match up with the left or right. Tackle and brian burns win that match up while curry. Getting doubled or kerr's beating his single man and the edge rusher seeing to. You're getting so much attention. And the niners. A lot deeper than carolina panthers right at the on the defensive line so my i imagined it just kind of looking over. You got both set nine. You got kerr at seven. He law at the three end at the one. That's your defensive star. That's your based defensive. Line you may not even have to blitz anyone. You probably don't have to send that extra pressure because all four. These guys can win double teams. All these guys can win their single man. Matchups kerr gives you so much positional versatility and he also might allow you to were. Hey look let's put kerr. Dj jones inside have quesnel take armstead spot armstead on the other side of bosa and now you have this really unique run defensive line right if you know it's shore yard a situation where they need to run the ball that could be. Your group armstead kerr. Dj jones and ken law. There's a lot of our civility here on this defense getting very imaginative last night up late. It was like three in the morning. I'm watching tape but it's just it just. It blew my mind on how smart when i i shouldn't say blew my mind. But the niners in their position lists football is starting to show up more on the defensive side too. Because you have a guy like that kerr who gives you the nose. Tackle one the one technique three and potentially a five tech as well on this defensive line so to me it just gives them a lot more personal facility. If i had to choose three. I'm goin' kerr. dj jones and mo- hearst. I love kevin givens. I really really do. But i think there be adding you can. Price sneak him on the practice squad. So i think those would be your three kinloss. Obviously going to be here. he's a first round. Pick there's no need to discuss that guy as far as his roster making. But i think kerr wins his nose tackle job. I think he gives you much more than dj jones. Jones is your pure nose tackle right if you want him on third down you want him over your center like he did like he owned a whole bunch of centers in two thousand nineteen the saints against the seahawks. Want him there on third down perfect. That's the kind of guy you want. But i think kerr ultimately wins the job and wins at interior three tech nose tackle role in the twenty twenty one season. Sorry again i go. I go along on my bed now. Hannah that's beautiful so. Dj jones actually had eleven more pass rushing snaps than zakar. Dj jones had thirteen total pressures in those eleven more snaps to thirty five total zach. Kerr had nineteen so he had six more total pressures than dj jones in eleven less snaps like zag kerr's on crazy like zach hers. The baller were not. We're not talking about played outstanding lashing on on the panthers team. That was not winning games. Not really known for for their defense at least to the caliber of the forty. Niners defense was known for He had a really really great season last year. And even maurice hers is kind of like right there with with the day jones in terms of pressures. Dj jones like once again had two hundred and thirty five pressure. Our total pass rushing snaps. Maurice hers had one forty nine so were about what eighty eighty five eighty to eighty five off. I'm not gonna do that math in my head. Dj jones once again had eleven or thirteen pressures. Maurice hers had eleven. So i was If you round up to what eighty five. Total defensive. Pass rushing snaps eighty-five less but only to less pressures this. This is a real competition here. Because you don't have just one guy involved you have three guys involved. I think ken laws gonna start at the three tech. Because you're gonna have armstead on the wide in base defenses but base. One tech is a three man race. And i think it's gonna be kerr one and i think somebody hearse to probably dj jones three on that mix mainly because kirker flat gerson. He's a big dude. He's bayer than dj jones. And that's kind of what you want if you have a guy in a wide nine scheme who's got seventy pounds on dj. He's three thirty five. Yeah and the reason why that's so important because you're playing a wide ninety fence and if you have your nose tackle just getting swallowed up not saying dj jones get swallowed up on this defense When you have just a weight and height advantage of gazette kerr a makes the offensive line job so much harder To to navigate through this defense since you mentioned. pf grades. Marie serse was a seventy eight point. Five which they have as a good pass rushing graded. It's got the green dot on their some of you are familiar So this is a really really good battle here between the three is going to be tough to get all those snaps between the three. But i think there's an opportunity there for it to happen because dj jones had once again. Two hundred and thirty five pass rushing snaps on the forty niners last year. Kevin givens had two hundred. Twenty nine pass rushing snaps last year. Giovane ken law. Three hundred and forty one pass rushing snaps. So there's an opportunity..

"All right so we're back okay. So we decided to or actually before we get into what we're gonna talk about a little bit today We had some very very sad news within the empire this week. Former niner tight end. Greg clark has passed away From what i've been able to discover it was a suicide streaming sad man. I it's so sad like i remember greg clark. You know. I remember the two sounds. He had against the walkers in the playoff game and ninety eight. Ninety nine depending on how you look at it but definitely sad to see and Don't want please people you know if you ever feeling down playing. Let's say hit me up because you know who am i but find somebody because you know probably simplest way this was put to me and you know we'll get off the subject after this is that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem so i don't know what mr carcass going through. How am i going to say that when he was going to temporary. But you know. I really wish that didn't happen. And that really sucks but as always an awkward transition from real life news to to football but i aside we'll go ahead and i'm kinda just giving give my thoughts on where the twenty nineteen niners rank amongst teams throughout nine or history. That didn't win the super bowl and you know i. It's ultimately year year to say okay. Well look at the two teams. That didn't win the super bowl. Twenty twelve and two thousand nineteen wishing was better on paper. I'm out to give it to the twenty twelve team. Just because oh will they do it this way. Let's break it down Position group opposition group. Okay so obviously if we go defense twenty twelve versus twenty nineteen. I mean you you gotta start with the d. lie and you know all the smith justin smith you know braille franklin rarely pringle was team is acceptable ouaga. You know it's it's hard to compare because you know then we are three four defense and our four three defense so it. It's you know the d. lines were a little different but yeah you might be able to look at strictly numbers. I wanna look at it. Strictly numbers I wanna get you know player. Basis like okay. Hey who had the more talent. And i have to give to twenty twelve like. It's very hard because it's like okay. You had nick both I mean talent. Wise that by one of the best talented allies dider history. Just 'cause deforest buckner air armstead. You know. Nick boasts a and d ford. All first round picks for believe so is very difficult to look at the g. Line and and compare it to that but i mean i just i have to get the twenty twelve because all the smith like that was probably prime older smith. Both i believe is the overall better all around better player like all. This smith was just freak of nature. And it wasn't until i went and did a little research and watch a little highlights is out of twenty seven over again just really realized like while all was played a part time role and have fourteen year by. That's crazy to think it. A part time roles somebody got fourteen sacks you know nick bosa playing every game got nine now. I understand that you know you can't always go by numbers. But i take if you if you could tell me you can get arguments smith with his head on straight or nick bosa stinking. All in smith like i. I'm sorry i would love to have either. But i think i'm gonna take golden smith and if you'll get here like i said if you're looking at here pass rush peer pressure. I'm taking on the smith Just because i feel that. I feel that he's just better passer but if i'm looking around by every greed down player although it become that his second year i'm significant just because i feel that nick boast is better than the run game you know. There's a better overall player. But on smith is a better pass rush at injustice smith. I'm sorry yeah. Ford you know deforest buckner. But i'm not taking any of those players over the cowboy cowboy tonight love So i'm i'm sorry. I've been taking justice smith over everybody and then so i mean would you take you know dj jones. I guess we'll be the closest. We have the nose tackle now so you. Dj jones or isaac soap water. I guess you could say i take. Dj over over this. Oh man you know. But honestly i. I'm gonna give it the twenty twelve just because i think the tandem of other smith adjusted smith. You know the smith brothers. I'm sorry i just don't think that the niners twenty nine thousand nine hundred anything quite to that level They had a overall defensive dominant defensive wine but twenty twelve i. It was pretty much all smith injustice. You know brooks did his thing you know but navarre would blitz but that that was ultimately and i'm sorry that might be the best deal just as far as working off each other and everything that that i may have. I have ever seen maybe besides. Py and dana stubblefield so linebackers. I mean come on. I if not even close you gotta go twenty twelve. I'm patrick was to devolve. Did their prize look. I love everybody who watches. This show knows how much i love. Fred warner big degree fan. I do think that he might be slightly hyped up. But i do believe that. He's a solid starter in the league. And you can do a lot worse than drinking law especially on a rookie contract. So yeah i mean but you've got probably the best linebacker do nfl history. Plus you know ahmad brooks and all the smith although he would be an end in our defense now as smith and and Mark brooks ain't no slot and so although they probably both the end so you can't get better than than P dobbin and bo. So yeah you gotta give it to the linebackers and twenty nine thousand nine hundred twenty twelve versus twenty nine thousand nine Secondary now. This is where i think that the twenty nine hundred nineteen can make a little bit of case. You know we are yet college. Rogers tremaine brook trout brown.

smith deforest buckner nick bosa smith justin smith Greg clark greg clark super bowl armstead niners pringle nick dj jones Dj jones franklin football Nick ford dana stubblefield Fred warner Ford
