"I wanted a fast track to bat assery so at the time the army had the best answer because they had to programs they had rangers and then they had s a baby program. Eighteen X ray so. I signed up for that and I went home until my dad. My Dad was like he was a little put off because I didn't tell them he said. Hey we're going. We're going back there. But I'm bringing my lawyer because I don't want this kind of fuck you ensure shit man when I went back with the lawyer he was doing some scrambling with paperwork and he was. He was changing some numbers of digits. Around or whatever. I'm so glad that my dad hooked me up like that you know Because it could have gone really bad mostly. I mean it's it's so it's so funny because I look at that career and you have to be so lucky and I tell all the all these guys who contact me on interwebs and they say hey I want to be forced recount. All this stuff and it's hard to explain them the amount not only how how tenacious you have to be but the amount of luck involved in that road. I say guys this is. It's a good road to take. It's a bumpy road. There's no shortcuts but it's a well it's a road we're taking him but damn man. I mean because the amount of times I failed throughout my twenty two year career. I could write a book just on failures on the amount of Shit that I failed and had to go back and do again the injuries in the recovery reasons surgeries and another failure another failure another failure and I mean and it's easy. It's pretty easy to go. Well I failed that one so I'm probably just not cut out for that thing but with special ops guys. They don't stop at one thing they don't like for instance become Airborne Ranger and say. Well this is. This is pinnacle peeking out here. Just accept this. I mean it's a great career path but most say what's the next step you know what's next step. Let me go and see if I could go to halo school. Let me go to combat dive. School let me go to SF COURSE. Let me try out for selection and go to the unit you know for most of them. They WANNA keep progressing in progressing and progressing so the opportunity in the and the not the opportunity but the chance. The chances of failure become greater and greater. Because you know you're volunteering over and over and over so whenever I talk to young kids and they want to be you know. They have it in her mind. I WANNA be a seal like that's great but just understand you know I'm all about it and and and you know if you've got a good if you've got to but it's hard the hard part for me is to tell them. There's a lot of luck involved. I thought you were going to say. There's no shortcuts and there's no guarantee that's that's two throws yeah just like that road. There's no shortcuts on that road. That's one thing that I I A pretty I. One thing I try not to do is say Yup. You should do right. Yeah because and and the worst thing about the navy and going for the seal team's is look if that's the kind of lifestyle you wanna live. Do you WANNA carry machine gun. That's great right if you don't make it in the house then you're not carrying machine gun right at all. Hey if you don't make it through Essa for you don't make it as a ranger you'll make force recon you can still be a grant which is awesome right. And that's what you WANNA do. I wanted to be a grunts. I was born so so when I joined the navy. I never thought about that. I didn't even recognize that I was to dome. But it's it's no guarantee there's no shortcut and man. Yeah it takes luck you. You Lan wrong on a jump shoe. You'll get hurt for in in the basic seal training or something called Rock portage where there's big waves your landing boats in these giant rocky area and it's no it's too easy just to step off. Rock wave hits your niece blown out two years recovery. You put on weight your fat. You're out of shape. You go back. You get stress fractures. You're done I don't that happens all the time. Yeah it happens. All the time I was I was a toad jumper my second job. I was eighteen years frigging code all the way across. Pull my bicep into my forum. Broke my rib's dislocated shoulder. "And it's something that I let's be creative. But at the same time, it has a little bit of an entrepreneurial aspect to it. And I get to do it from home. So that I can still be the mom and take my kids to school and pick them up when they, you know, get out and and all that. So okay. Well, I'm not the carpenter actually do help with the design. I I don't cut the what I do is. I have a supplier, and I ordered the toys from him. And then I designed them in terms of more stylized them putting them together in sets and making groupings or just painting them with these like non-toxic paints. And then I made an organic like sealant of like homemade organic on that I finished them with and then I photograph and sell them. And so what made you want to do that like specifically that being your business model? I know if I had some calling, but I think the fact that I used to be a teacher like in another lifetime time ago. So I was experienced being classroom teacher and also obviously being a parent like it just felt like the right fit for me to do something that was child related that had this creative feel to it where I could do some creative stuff and also like have a little business on the side. Awesome. So you can watching survivor all. These these inns. I think there's one I mess. Do you know which one it was? Do you didn't miss much? I actually like lightly. Underrated that it's so lightly. Underrated. That is now become lately over eight. Do you have a favorite season favorite players? Like anybody who's placed out? You wanna you wanna channel here? Yeah. For sure like I loved Chi-Yang. I thought that was great season. Just the so many great characters like the cast members. Spectacular. And I also love here's versus villains. That to me is a classic. I know it's like a returning players season. But again like the game play in that was unbelievable. The challenges were Ruutel when I think about the interesting that happened even on day one with her dislocated shoulder like it was intense. But it was definitely fun to watch terms of like survivor that I want whatsoever. I want a channel out here. I mean, if everything goes, well like in your mind, if you are the person at the end date thirty nine. Yeah. Is there like a play style that would be like similar like a similar comparison? I'm probably similar to to re in terms of her social game and being able to make those connections, and socialize I'm not gonna be the challenge beast. I mean, I feel like I athletic, but I'm also maybe one of the oldest people out here. So that kind of worries me a little bit. So I do think I have to rely more on my social skills than anything else. Are you willing? Going to be pretty cut throat in the way that Sirri was like is that the type of game that you cry? I feel like a cut her person. But I'm not here to lose. And I'm not gonna not do something if it's going to jeopardize staying in the game. So one of the things that's changed since the, you know, it's really it's a very reason change this fire making challenge that's shown up the last couple of seasons. Something you've taken into account you've prepared for. Yeah. I so I ordered plan on Amazon, and I had like five different kinds, and I got them, and I started practicing making fire months ago. And I definitely have it down. I'm very confident in my fire. Making somebody's gotta show me how to do. My problem is. Incurable..

"I mean, I it was crazy cover forty three teams. John gruden's, brother? Well, Adrian Peterson has a dislocated shoulder, and they couldn't run it. So they to two point two yards per carry. And then the saints are just much more explosive offensive team. I mean, how about this Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara have been the two best offensive players in the sport in the first five weeks outside of Mahomes. Kamara had nine touches. I mean, those guys were non factors. It was. It was trade Kwame Smith with a couple touchdowns. It was Mark Ingram with a couple touchdowns. The saints are loaded the saints are loaded and as far as. Breeze. It is interesting. He passes Payton for the all time passing leader. You know, this guy. I don't know if you saw the little thing on Twitter where his three little boys all hugged him at one time. And they they kind of pile drive them in there. Like the breeze, boys. Exact not now what was shown on the field. This was after. Cute. I retweeted it they kinda. They kinda jumped all over their daddy. They're pretty cool. But drew, breezy passes manning. Okay. And then manning had the video message and the whole deal, but this is a guy who won a Super Bowl he holds the NFL record now for all time passing leader. He's the all time passenger he has the most career completions. He has the highest completion percentage of any quarterback of all time. In fact, he's thrown for five thousand yards five times in the last decade. There's no other quarterback in the history of the NFL has ever done it more than once saw. I'll throw it to you in a lot of ways. He's the third of the three whether you're talking about, you know, all time with Peyton or right now with Brady and Rogers, and you know, he's considered kind of the third guy..

"There were some other NFL headlines they came out of Monday following the big football weekend. There always are injury. To report and for the Philadelphia Eagles who are already struggling. They have now lost Jay Ajayi to the season with a partially torn ACL. So he's about to have surgery. That's another blow for the eagles. But really frustrating for Jay who had found a hole mayor was really happy in Philadelphia. Remember all the mess with the Miami Dolphins, and he gets traded. And so that's that's disappointing and real setback for him personally. And then you probably heard Andrew bogusch. Mentioned it on the update but another running back who was part of last night's game. Adrian Peterson says he has a dislocated shoulder. He did say it's not going to keep him out. He was that. He wouldn't miss any time. But he's getting an MRI today to determine. If there's any other issue there. So I they called it a strange shoulder. But Peterson says it was dislocated and this was late in the first half. And he was only out there for a couple of snaps in the second half. He did what tough athletes do go popped it back in break it up at halftime and got back in there. That's a direct quote from Adrian Peterson. It's not something that I think that I could do I actually have played sports before with people who've dislocated shoulders and mentally that sound painful and look painful, but the grimace on their faces when they get it. Popped back in. It's it's the the the crack to is just something I never ever ever want to see or hear again. But thank you Adrian Peterson for that that walk down memory lane. Good news for forty Niners running back, Matt Brita. His ankle injury is not a high ankle sprain. Which think for the San Francisco forty Niners who are already dealing with the loss of their quarterback and Jimmy Garoppolo. This is a critical piece for them. And I get it expectations are a whole lot lower. But if he's going to be out for a few weeks that hamstrung that would make the offense even more hamstrung that it is already. Let's say CBS is Super Bowl season continues with a fantastic doubleheader. Next sunday. I it's intense AFC north battle when Pittsburgh collides with Cincinnati. Then the NFL's top defense. "And it's just this giant iceberg underneath us that we're all thinking about, but we're not talking about very right, and isn't it ironic that we may not be able to honestly talk about our or health fully talk about our own struggles with weight when we live in a society that's really, really wait obsessed. And I feel like we're getting signals all the time everywhere about about what is healthy, what isn't regarding our weight. And also, I mean, there's also this weird double standard to that. Since I started working on this article, I started noticing the way that skinny people are allowed to talk about food, you know, oh, I shouldn't be having this. Second slice of cake or, oh, I was so bad yesterday or I don't feel like going jogging and you know, when you start talking to fat people, fat people say, I would never say things like that out loud. I would never be able to get away with just these kind of cute and fun little quips that skinny people are allowed to make. Whereas when a fat person, when you look like you have bad habits, when people assume that you have some sort of moral failing, they hold you to a completely different standard. And so what that does to fat people is it makes you feel like you're being watched all the time right? That if somebody brings bagels to a work meeting, you're like, we'll do. I reach for one and then I'm going to confirm everybody's stereotype or do I not reach for one? And then somebody later is going to be like, oh, are you on a diet? Like it just gives you the self awareness that skinny people go through life just not really being aware of the ways that they talk about diet and exercise, but fat people have this really pernicious idea that they have to be a good fatty in public that otherwise they're going to be judged for their behavior and in many ways, they're right people really do judge that people in a completely different way than they judge skinny people. Okay. So Michael. The headline of your story is everything you know about obesity is wrong. Now, you know, headlines are always designed to grab people's attention. I get that, but, but you know, reading through your story though, that is kind of the attitude that you're taking. So when you when you say that, like much of what we presume about obesity is wrong, what do you mean? Well, I think there's three main facts that are not reflected anywhere in medical practice or in public health. And the first is that weight and health are not synonyms. There's quite a few healthy fat people, and there's quite a few unhealthy skinny people. There's these overlapping circles between weight and health, but they're not perfect. The second is that losing weight is almost impossible. Ninety five to ninety. Eight percent of diets fail and many people gain back more weight than they lost, and it's really hard on your body and it's hard on your mental health to to lose weight and then gain the weight back slowly. And the third is that fat shaming doesn't work telling somebody that they have to lose weight or that their lifespan is shorter or that their knees are going to go out when they're thirty one, these kinds of. Don't make it easier to lose weight. They make it harder. And so if you were designing a medical system and a public health system around those three facts, it would look very different than ours. I mean, we still have doctor's constantly telling people to lose weight. I mean, when you talk to fat people, they'll say they going with an earache. They go in with migraines. They go in with anything and their doctor says, oh, you need to lose forty pounds as if that is imperative for their health. And as if that is even possible can oftentimes I spoke to one woman who was in a train derailment, a big accident, and she goes into the ER and the doctor says, how long have you been this big as if that has anything to do with dislocated shoulder? And so we had this idea that we sort of have to shame people losing weight is possible, and that it's this urgent thing that you have to do right now. And none of those things are actually true, but you do..

"Never Nevoso six hundred of the sleeper in the bust. It is Friday, September fourteenth. I'm your host Paul sport, and the band is back together. I am joined by both Justin Mason and Jason Kellett both in some sketchy situations for different reasons Justin's on the DL we're not putting on the September and Jason's being chased down by a hurricane gentlemen, how are you guys. Not bad. This is this is only happening because that one guy on Twitter said he wanted to three of us record again right within anyone. You know. Who? Yeah, exactly over. I had to the guy I I look up, but now we made it happen. Obviously, Jason, you and I have not recorded in a long time and just and if you've been following him on on Twitter is dealing with some health issues. And so it's always nice when a doctor gives you something that makes you worse, that that is always what you want that that's always a key move for them. So glad you guys are both on episode, six hundred. We had to make it happen. Plenty to talk about, got some news. It's mostly bad news guys getting hurt, move into the bullpen, but then we're gonna talk about an interesting bit for the final stretch run here. We're talking about some guys who are what I would call new studs. They've been good during the the second half and over the last month or so versus established guys who've been playing duds in the second half, and we'll go position by position for that kind of get your thoughts on who you just. Want the route last couple of weeks here, but let's start with some news and some really bad news. Unfortunately, for Gregory along co, he's had shoulder surgery and he's gonna be out for seven to nine months. Now they went in to do something with a dislocated shoulder and also had to repair his labor and so it's not good. The interesting thing is he Ridgely went down with a bone, bruise in his left knee, and then all of a sudden the shoulder became an issue. So this is not good. Gregory Ponco was not having a good season really turned it on the second half, this guy I swear. I've been touting on this show for years. I mean, just and you and I were all over him. Interestingly, not love in this happens when I go to be ref page their birthday, it's his birthday today. Sorry, hasn't been so good for you. But yeah, I mean he was having a great second half after really kind of picking up the power Ben there all year. Now we're down seven to nine months shoulder also an issue j I know you're great at assessing shoulder injuries. So how about I ever hundred? I'm Amal percent. Seven to nine months. Obviously, this is this is a bit worrisome for Blanco's futures also because it's shoulder and the power had finally started to quick. How do you feel about him next year now, Jason? And and so this is different for the Matt carpenter situation because there's actual surgery here. Carpeted ever have the surgery, you know, that's as much as I like Palanca. He's not somebody that I will be targeting. I'll be fading him coming into the draft seizes ca, seven, that nine months, let's let's be honest lead towards the nine mother's day return to action on the field down as the right. So that's why I take everything that I said about Matt carpenter last year and apply Polat go this year with the understanding of Ponca had the surgery and that that's going to be. There's a better track record of guys having the surgery and trying to come back and not doing while at the plate. Then guys who have shoulder problems on the sudden have magic. Shoulder healing powers, part house, double magic, and be Carl magic strikes. Again, Justin, you feel similarly about a boy Ponco. I think I'm going to be all over Plocka getting. You can take that heavy discount then. Yeah, I'm gonna take the discount in it. The shoulder stuff definitely scares me, but you know what really intrigues me in the second half is eight stolen bases. It was running to everything. I mean, the the way the bottom line was going to look. You know for our town and we're going gonna look pretty good on that one because he had twenty three to twenty three homers twelve stolen bases adds another couple weeks to that. You're looking at like a twenty six fifteen with two fifty..

"If you just look at them talent wise, they're missing a piece. Now we all know where that piece is, but they're missing. One Jerry Jones is going to go roll. Tigra is Jerry. Wait until zero hour until Seattle blinks Seattle, blink because they don't want Thomas. They want. I don't know what a one. Maybe we wanna one because they think Jerry's desperate because to the safeties are downright. Now exiled. Your woods has. I think it's a torn hamstring cave on Frazier's. Got a dislocated shoulder is worth a sling on the sideline last night as no good Jeff. He he, he's one of those overachiever, great kids that you love to coach and then on Sunday, you don't love him in your life. Well, the guy that practice really will you may we gotta give rip in then you put him in the game and you know, go half a raw? Yeah. Crate kid. Great. Here's rob the cut. So I think that Earl Thomas is the Super Bowl piece for this defense because other than that Jalen Smith, he, I think he can make the Pro Bowl. He he's flashing like Jalen Smith at Notre Dame. He is all the way back. I know what you think is Sean Lee is I think that much Sean Lee and all of a sudden that pass rush. It is deep and loaded because even last night I'm looking at Charles tapper and Kony ealy. They're going to be like sixth and seventh on the defensive in depth chart. They were wreaking havoc last night, it's deep man. You're underestimating coming skew being about it. Carolina got off Kony ealy John. I mean a the patriots the. I mean, I mean, what's going on and you, and now all of a sudden you like you Cohen just saying he's depth. They got quality death, we know aleisha step who he Carolina wins the SuperBowl. He's the MVP three. Thanks. Bombo inception. Yeah. What happened. I'm saying the whole receiving core is being underestimated not underrated beautifully underrated in my view because there there's a lot of potential there that kid Lance Lenore last night. He caught nine balls for sixty nine yard guy. That's going to be coaching that if you have to test in Dacca likes in, he was light up. Austin was the breakout star of Cam. I'm just saying you're just made what he can do if you split him out, don't don't put him in the backfield deacon dunk to him, split him out, letting be a wide out. But table often you talk about a guy v Vietnam. He's the star of train of training camp. Really people make mistakes in this league. Maybe the Rams made a big mistake because once upon a time he was a high pick. I like awesome. Awesome to a problem because he's so quick. You can put them all over the place. You know he's like Percy her Arben he's, he's tough, but it's just the outside receiver scare nobody. And I think, and I know Elliott's run against an eight-man boxes whole life. So that's not going to be anything new if they can get the offense align healthy, I'll do do things. I'm worried about him being banged up. That's that's. They got death. They got the center who's without it without a match. Like that guy is fantastic. Rhetoric. But if he's out for the year, you know now I got a quality Baco Joe loonies not bad. Right? So this guy, you know, but these guys, they're exceptional players when he went out. Okay. But they got Cameron Fleming from Tom Brady smart move. You saw you saw getting pressure on. He's more of a right tackle than a left tackle. It is hard. He better green. That. That was a nightmare disaster. He doesn't have the feet into thing is you got to be able to kick out the people and he just opened the door and they just they just run just run in his house and gets and getting quarterback, but you have no depth on the offensive land ever ops escape you damp that those outside guys skip, but that might be playing. No, that's only thing I'm worried about. That's the thing thing you're going to be playing though that back now you know, tyrant Smith got back skip, and we've seen that back player with greater regularity. Now, Zac, Martin, got a knee high healthy of that knee you limp into the season..

"Now what i would say is that the attorney general of kentucky has created such a crappy place to live all his laws with all of his rules and the demanding the people live the way that he wants them to live the would rather get hillbilly hillbilly heroin right and live their lives of quiet desperation slowly killing themselves with opioids then to to to to deliver his state but he's just a greedy bastard trying to cash in the study is was done by dr carl hart that's karl with a cease and heart with an h a r t so for anybody that wants to look up that study and get a lot of detail go search for dr carl hart the mouth study what they did is and most people don't realize or no that mice are social creatures meaning that when mammals a mouse with other mice generally going to be happy they have a little mouse party yes so the researchers had these mice individually and they have have holdouts i think it was cocaine in some water or just regular water free access you've to have as much as you want when the mice were in the cages by themselves what do you think they did they get the cocaine water right the same thing that people do when they're traveling out of town on business meetings that's when the drinking starts when the mice cokie when the vice together surmised we're talking about frequency of going to the kate cocaine water drops precipitously these are the bear mice that we're using as i understand it it goes back to that hopelessness the isolation right so people wind up using these drugs to escape and then that's when the medical physiological thing happens and you often hear people say i want to quit but i can't and that's where and i said it's a medical problem and you sort of took exception to that mark a dislocated shoulder is also a medical problem you go to a medical professional to get help for that medical problem it doesn't mean that you have this problem forever human at any point and addicts takeover or you're talking about is a victim mentality and it's not just the victim mentality is what we're told people are told this over and over again.

"Number three seed on wednesday night by the way the rockets just lost luke i'm bob moon to his second dislocated shoulder i think the first time he did it was in december and he was out for fifteen games so that's a big deal for them it was a meaningless victory over the lakers other than the andrea ingram story but the rockets did lose him so we'll wait for a diagnosis but the dislocated shoulder the second one this year could take him out of the lineup maybe for a series or two depending on how long the rockets are alive in the east the philadelphia seventy sixers now control their own destiny for their three feet if that's what they want then it's there for the taking they grabbed their fifteenth consecutive win a franchise record for the philadelphia seventy sixers they victory over the hawks and i get it it's the hawks but whatever it's still a win and so now have fifty one victories on the season and by beating milwaukee on wednesday they will lock up the three seed in the east so they would actually clips the cleveland cavaliers and lockup that three seed and i think it's amazing you you may not look at the sixers and think they're credibly dangerous in the postseason they won't have joel embiid at least to start the play offs and there's still a lot of young guys that that'll be going through this for the first time however they are the hottest team in the league we broke a club record tonight with a fifteenth win in a row and it's not like we're young club we earn old club with a tremendous amount of culture and a tremendous amount of history and taken that type of momentum into the playoffs is is important it doesn't guarantee anything but it it certainly lets you feel like you've been doing the right things at team has been fantastic we got one more game that we understand the opportunity.

"Yeah sixty four at the all star trap this is super bowl fifty two so any way you asked a question and answer dap might has got hate the chiefs the answer is that's a long list and we don't have enough time on the podcast results i'm sorry yeah i mean i really did want the chiefs to i want to let you to go the whole way hey it's melissa that hey kiss eliza hey it's elissa did i be reading the i got it every word of the wrong all right hey it's elissa what's your preferred probowl the afc verse the nfc way or the draft method they tried i don't remember the draft here on the draft method than a try was light dion sanders had a team i thought all right that's me each pick them yeah here's a thing the pro bowl in the nfl is a waste of everybody's time because you cannot play a full out game at at full intensity because if someone were to blow and acl get a major concussion ya break an armed dislocated shoulder break a collarbone any of these things which happens at full speed fullcontact it matters type game uh you're talking about career anders you're talking about things that will take away a person's career if they had five more years of earning they could be done right so no one's going to invest their bodies or their energy into this game so you're never going to get a good probowl game just never going to happen and i don't blame them why would you roll the dice on your on your livelihood so what they need to do in my opinion is bringing the people to get voted in his allstars who and do some sort of skills test yeah i love do a skill says member battle battle the now.

"Beef then especially with the second unit so guys like pj tucker going to have to step up he's gonna play a few more minutes i think i think you're gonna see trouble he's a plan a few more minutes to try to make up for that uh bomb luquet loss and then after that you know maybe even harden's going to get a few more minutes so uh trying to fill in for luca and and they say his dislocated shoulder is going to be uh they're going to reevaluate in a week and then they're saying it's two to three weeks before he's back but but i'd had that injury before and uh it's painful and it's not easy to work through as you're trying to trying to do the rehab to get back at it really does hurt a lot so and initiatives is right shoulder to agencies shooting shoulder were saying two to three weeks but that's probably on the very optimistic side now think a little bit outside of the box i i can't recall them playing them at the four this year but could you see torque black you to lure a couple more as the night or uh is that more of the case a rather go with a pj tucker someone else that's got a better three wall yeah you know targeted uh you know he's been trying to work is way into the lineup and then tony's been given a cheering there to try to try to keep them sharp and keep them uh from the into rusty but but i think target before he doesn't shoes but three ball well enough yet to be able to play the four spot and i know he's been working on three of the corner 3 especially uh and he really needs dad that to his game two to make himself more versatile and and more valuable on the offense event especially for the rockets but i don't see the i don't see him playing a lot more minutes tonight because of babu taste uh injury just because tareq is it he just can't spread the floor on the offensive on the offense and then like pj tucker can or likely bob hutu was doing by playing behind the 3point line matt bowler joining us here on the rockets power our rockets taking on the spurs tonight it's in late tit just like wednesday's.
