"Dionne Warwick, Smokey Robinson. Everyone singing the same song. As happens every week on the show, subject to change What host Patrick Bryant calls pat nauseam he picks apart. One song has been covered by a cornucopia of artists. Music he finds on his 15,000 albums or at websites like Secondhand songs. And Patrick Brian joins us. Welcome. Thank you so much for having me. How did you come up with this? I think part of boredom in being somewhat contrarian. I spent a lot of time in thrift record stores. And I would just buy up these cheap $1 records of sixties celebrities or folks and I would notice the same song. And just became fascinated by the idea of a song being just covered by this multitude of people from, you know, Andy Williams, Dusty Springfield, Johnny Mathis, Isaac Hayes and the like. Well, and by the way, we should say You're a union lawyer. Uh, in your 9 to 5 job, God bless college radio stations where you can do something like this, And we also want to say that this song, which is it's just iconic was written by the grave. The legendary songwriting team Berg back rack held David 1962. Recorded later that year for the first time by Chuck Jackson. Later, Tommy Hunt. So Dusty Springfield's version was already a cover. Are you surprised by things like that findings like that? I thought that song just came right out of the gate a hit. It's interesting of the time and part of why I'm so fascinated is you would have the same song covered by many different artists, sometimes competing with each other. To try and see if it would click with any particular one. So, for instance, that song was recorded with Chuck Jackson first, and they didn't like his vocals, so they substituted Tommy Hunt. Using his vocals released it, It went nowhere. Dusty meets back rack encourages her to cover that song. And then she does it, and suddenly, people are listening to dusty. Well, first here, Chuck Jackson,.

"Few times? Yeah, just sort of pretend that we're not At the Hubbard Radio studios and we are out Having a nice little happy hour and Rocco's playing the jukebox. Maybe Laurie gave me some cash to put it aside and we're just sitting around going. Hey, it was Stevie Wonder's birthday yesterday. Let's play some songs and let Z Let's see if we can also quiz you with some trivia and maybe make you sing along. Worry. Did you hear Julius rant about why you should not have played finished the line last week, brother because you were having musical mind and she does not. I do because I was listening. And so I texted her. How dare you that the only thing I'm good at and yeah, she said I cheated be. Are you cheated because you supposedly knew that I was good at lyrics. So it's sabotage. You are good at lyrics. I am at the only thing I'm good at like my brother. I hope you're good at Stevie Wonder was. I think Lori's gonna have an advantage here because you know, most of these songs come from the seventies and eighties and right and he wasn't even there, people that's got nothing to do with anything. That is a musical argument that doesn't make sense. We'll see. We'll just start right off the bat with a finished the line and it goes a little something like this. Position. Very superstitious Writing's on the wall. A C got started over the good one there. That was maybe a tie. Even though it was a tie. I think it really was. I'll take a type E was because you were like, right. What would you like? Like we're such bad singer right now. I think I was like glory sing louder like I'll be the background. You know what Do it right. He was on the ball. That is a great Line it is that the music and that was true. And that song hit number one on the billboard charts in the 1972 the year of my birth. Um, Speaking of Rocco, when I was in high school, I am I heard this song a lot and Keep smiling. This was kind of ah celebrity quartet to raise money. I think for AIDS research on it was Stevie and three other superstars. Can you name those three singers Dionne Warwick. My over achieving no, dear. Great. Oh, that's our friends. Therefore, Dionne Warwick, that Zach's one? Yes. Any thoughts, Brittany? No. Course not. I can see them like Lionel Richie. Was he the other one? It was a British man. Elton John, Yes. And another African American woman who often hung out with pips. Gladys Ain't the Pips. That's you. That's your point. Yeah, I Hated that song. It's bad with a passion. You have a song Britney that was like played it every graduation because I kind of came up with in the wind beneath my wings. That's what friends has. Oh, lord! Well, we had that one that actually called graduation song that was like as we go on. We remember Yes, in vitamin C, and it was like, always played and everyone's like nobody like this. Yeah, like stop just called Graduation song was so Bag. Yeah, Yeah, that That was your friend. But it had a good purpose. And I suppose was that like to pre loaded? We're the world I think was after was it after years after, But they raised a lot of money for AIDS research. Yes, they did. They did it. Help inspire hands across America with 1986 Raines. Yeah, those are all around the same time. Someday we should go down the We should do a deep dive on all the charity songs because there was like a Canadian. You know, we are the world And then there was like a heavy metal. We are the world the best thing to a Mexican. We are the world that I learned in my Spanish class and my dad. And then they did all the band Aid. Bandit Bandit came first that that came from and then they did the albums they would do the Christmas and they would have. I still have some of the footage they always had of them on like bleachers like with headphones on and like. Making eye contact and turn into the other person like that is so terribly good. And to pull it back to Stevie Wonder. He was part of the world have returned 71 yesterday, which we feel like he Themes older just has been around for so long. Yeah, that's very he was young. You're right. When you have read they I've read something today. Like his hair. He and Bob Dylan hit the charts together the same year of 62. Stevie Wonder was 13, right? Fingertips and Bob was like 25 or something. Yeah, Okay. I'm just gonna go in order of how I put him on the screen here. This I'm also bringing up some songs that Stevie wrote or helped Right and see if you can name this song. Hello. Tears of a clown Smokey Robinson. No, I think you got that one. Yeah. Is it already just nailed it? Britney? You're not doing so well. Oh, but you know the sign or no? Yeah, no, no, the word I don't know the name of it. You know who's staying in her face? So, yeah, From what I read today, like Stevie played that opening part for For Smokey this part? Yeah, and smoke is like that Sounds like a circus or something so good. So good. So you go. All right, Let's do it. I didn't know that I didn't either. Until I read it. Today We'll have some other another song that he wrote coming up, but I'm gonna go back to finish the line here for this song. You heard the sunshine. You are the sunshine of my life. You always be around that's very close. And he do you ever thought of bringing that ascension my life and you'll always be My heart. You're both present. Laurie gets this. He totally get mad. Be your Yeah, That's yours. I actually figured it was around, but I couldn't steal it. Yeah, right. So then I was at that point, but no, I had no idea you talked at number one also in 72. Big year. I mean, Stevie was just killing it with the songs in the key of life. Just that album for while everyone was playing it, everyone, everyone, everyone. Here's another song he wrote for somebody else, See if you can name it, You know this song? Wow. Hey, e supposed to answer that. E don't know, But I'm gonna add it to my sexy time. Check a kind is yes. Give me such Scott. Because you're close. You got to give me good or give me something Good. Tell me something Good. Sorry's good. Better now. Now? Yes, Yes, Yes. All right. This is pretty good we're doing I did not know. He wrote that song. He That's a That's a big hit that you know That's a song you could rambunctious Lee. Take your clothes off. I think so. My dogs might lose their minds to that bird won't you didn't go see? I know Chaka Khan was out at the zoo a couple years ago, and I wish I would have gone. Do you think I said shocker? Khanna jazz fest? Of course you did in 2019. Says so many people at that 2019 jazz fest that were, May I say I Shaka Khan and Gladys Knight in the same afternoon? It's wild. Did you go to the prince? Sort of funeral type thing and excel? So I think Stevie was there and shocked. Yes. Yes, that was that was Amazing show. It was 5.5 hours and I loved it. But I did not go to that. I'm lame. Yeah. Alright. Tori Kelly was there. I mean, it was really Judith Hill was there and she's saying the cross, which is a spine tingling. That's where my day did a belly dance, like for three songs with her sword. I mean, it was it was. I'll never will never see a concert like that again. Did your brother come out to go to that one? No, no, no. I went with Julia. She went home and I ended up scooting down, scooting down in another city next to Jane Haugen Olsen, who's the dire Prince fan? Yes. Living your best life living our best life trying trying. I am, but we're crying through Dad..

Kate Bush, New York Dolls, Radiance Machine, Foo Fighters Tina Turner, Carole King, Go Go's Mary J. Blige, Jay Z, Diane Dionne, Warwick Deveaux, Chaka Khan and Iron Maiden. About Dionne Warwick. I don't know if you call that rock. I mean, she had serving that rocker Did she want you had sixties? Okay. All right. She's saying all this bird back, Rex on. Okay. Got you. That's why I missed him. Let's go the phones or just go toe. Steven Monroe's TV You have a comment on the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fire Way I do have a comment. First of all, Yes, our maiden should definitely be in there, and I don't agree about Jay Z Being there he is not rock and roll. And the only time I think about Debo was when me and my wife are enjoying a few minutes alone. Time together. Hey, you, Governor. Thank you for the call. Well, said the build up was good to, uh let's go to another was gonna mat on cell Matt Far way. All right. I'm a diva hater for 40 years. But a mind blower for me was when I found out that they were the main influence on Neil Young. When he did. Hey, hey, my mind All that cacophony at the beginning, and at the end, that's all DeVeaux influence. And Neil young officer was a lot of people himself. But devoted influence Brands album that whole trans out me did with all the electronic music That was totally Deebo. That was totally deVeau. And now I'm not. I'm not sure that was his best album by any stretch, But anyway, you know you're really important. Yeah, man, You make a very good case Now. I don't want to say I've crossed the Rubicon yet. But people are making some feminist arguments. And I'm a man that I will listen to arguments and change my opinion. Should I deem it? Uh, relevant? Let's go to skirt John and dating, John Fire Way. All right, well it every year. This time I banged my head against the wall. I can't believe Todd Rundgren, not in on you. Think of his last work and its influence another band. I got his original Nash, where you play with two of Soupy seals Brothers from Philadelphia and then to mask his very first one that he put out by, um How was we've got to get to a woman? That was great. And certainly like during the college days. That is something. Anything you know, Girl home. Hello. It's me. I saw a light. And you know, he'll be remembered for bang the drum all day, which is probably the song he ever wrote. Produced. You know, One thing was a lot of people don't know that, um he pretty much blocked Grand Funk railroad back on the scene by producing word American band and this music and listen to that album. You can definitely understand it, Um You know, he was really the first to embrace technology. Electric music, Progressive Rock. How about a wizard? A true star and album that basically put you play the entire side? Go to one of beauty. If you gotta go outside what I mean And, uh, so you know what I mean? You know exactly what you mean. You know what a wizard true star he played every instant rent on every song. Including this morning, and I was talking a little bit about the New York dolls. He produced the album, New York dolls, He produced a meatloaf's bat out of Hell. I mean, um, John, that that that doesn't man that Ziani that thank you for calling that Z. Thanks for the beauty reference because I do know what you're being the next guy. Let's let's go to, uh Let's go to the land that produced my wife, Kelly Boylan, That is Ross, Ohio, and talk to Jenny. Jenny. Fire way what you have. I just wanted to know you guys opinion on foreign or not being in the holiday is Ford or not in it. How is that possible? They're not a great unbelievable They're just kind of lumped in with all those with all those seventies bands like I was saying there was some bands from 75 don't like 17. Thank you. This sticks in Boston and and foreigner Unfortunately. Got lumped in with all those bands and I think they just got kind of lost in the shot. I see. But again, this is the debate. I am all about influence and the future bands you helped create. You gotta sell some records and you gotta have some hits and former has some damn hits there. Come when they will. You know where. The concert um a couple of years ago down their river, Ben and you look at their set list. You're like Every one of these songs are like made another on the radio and her hits. There's not a junk song amongst them. No Travesty of justice. Will have the same argument next year at this time. Yes, I look forward to you for your concern in this matter. And if Deveaux is it and I want to see them get back together and perform. I don't think that'd be hilarious. Goes there, and it's in Cleveland. Those guys they're from Akron. So coming up we're gonna be talking about. We're going to get a little sports thing here because I think this is long over deal. What we're about to hit on. I haven't seen this verified. You probably have. I have not there. Well, there's it's still kind of rumor and maybe conjecture, but possibly Ed. A ring of honor is coming to Paul Brown Stain and James REPEATING will join us next to discuss 700 wlw..

They have a lot in common source tells people dot com and that they started getting serious this summer. They've been and then also a sources. They've been inseparable the past few weeks. It's a new relationship, but they're very into it now. And didn't they meet? Like modeling kind of a thing or is kind of a ready for me with the story? He was in one of her video, Okay for Brady. No. Before Fenty, 2013 or something. Well, they met in 2012. They collaborated on a Rianna track, And then they toured together in 2013. They know each other. You know, I love it. It's just like they've just slid into the relationship. It's like, Oh, well, I've loved you all along. And then I'm making a present, You know, And I'm sorry, but I am glad that Rianna is not with the Saudi Arabian billionaire guy anymore. Glad she's not. That's not who I picked for her. Yes. So I gay separate key. This guy if he's got if he's got his act together because they are just smoking hot and these, I love it that they know each other, too. Yeah, and the source over at People magazine says they're both very much about helping out in the communities where they grew up, So they both have philanthropy in there what they want to do. So good on them. That's awesome. You know, I heard you guys talking earlier this week about Dionne Warwick on Twitter. Yes, and how she's very active. And she wants everyone to know that. Yes, it is her well. She is hitting back at Wendy Williams comments about her tweets. I watched Wendy he talked about that. Tell me, Yes. So what did I didn't see that one when he was late to the party. Okay, we're talking about Miss Dionne Warwick on Monday. OK, Wendy. It's Wednesday. Okay, It's when nobody she's afraid behind for someone. You know, I know whatever. But and then she shares before she really shares What Dion did, which was just like had these photos about Why do you put day chance? The rapper? Why do you have Wrapper in your name and my damn the singer. Anyway, she first sets up that Dion is a friend of the show. But she knows that Dion doesn't like her. And she knows that she calls her after she leaves And you know, we just have come to the conclusion. Dion doesn't like doing interview. No, no. Anyway, Wendy was shady. And then she went on a half ass. Tell the story. Mm. Well, Dionne has some things to say. Tell me for on Twitter. Here is what Dionne Warwick tweeted about Wendy Williams, She said. Friend alerted me that Wendy Williams is spending a lot of not nice time Speaking on me, I tune into our show to catch the last few minutes of her speaking about me. And as in the past, she seems not to be able to speak without maliciously made comments. My hope is my name will refrain from being spoken or thought of her as his conversation was held a few years ago, letting her know there was nor would there be any need for her to say the name Dionne Warwick for any reason, Won't she? Dionne Warwick goes on to say. I don't believe one has to be mean to get noticed. Then Dionne Warwick follows up Now This is a serious of three tweets. So I got to go to Twitter. So she tweeted out. There's an old saying You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Try it, Wendy. You might like it with a clown face Emoji and a smiley emoji. Well, funny coming from her. It feels like to crabby people are tweeting each other. No, I'm going to tell you I'm going to tell you that first of all, Wendy was late to the gossiping. Okay? We were talking. About GM Warwick and and it was just kind of like, should even tell the whole story, right? She didn't get the fun of it, you know, and I don't know. It just took it like it. She was. She was real, real, real shady. And you know, when he's crabby, she's been crabbing for years or shady. We told him story about how that she's crabby. We just think that she's done. You know, she doesn't I like her on Twitter. Damn it. It's really Dionne Warwick. Let us remember That jet verified that over the weekend with her, Yeah, that it is her because she was questioning chance the rapper's name and then it went on from there so That's happening over in the Twitterverse Lovett. Miley Cyrus is revealing why she told Liam Hemsworth and her other exes to eat bleep in a new music video. So this is all part of her prisoner. Music video would do a leap up. Oh, that's at the end of the song. Yeah, yeah, Why did she say it? Well, she just, you know, said that she had a hard time and when you have feelings about your ex is so Is because at the end of this, it is like eat BLEEP. It's a clip from an old John Waters movie. Well, it's probably yet Is it from Pink Flamingo? It might be, and maybe it's divine lays, stretching out on the stairs Beat Big darling. It's kind of an iconic, you know, seen, and she's paying. Oh, Marsha, everything like kind of seventies and I think this album very much is to her critics and I can on Lee. Imagine how many people have wanted to boss her around with her career as I wanted to fight back and poke a little fun and create something that's campy, and it was kind of the perfect book and for what we made of that video prisoner. Yeah, I haven't watched the whole thing, but it's good use. I watched it today because somebody had said Oh, you've got to see it's a clip from It's not even her actually saying it short. It's divine wraps up like a little movie. Yeah, well, if it is from pink flamingos, and you haven't seen that John Waters movie, I just ask that you don't eat any meal before you actually were. I recommend never watching him. Very. That's my recommendation. Will have you seen it? Because I don't want to. I've seen divine in the original hair spray. Okay, all right, because there are some graphic things that I am going to tease a little bit leading into the next segment, a little vintage scandals coming your guys his way, and it's a delightful treat. The only thing that I want to say regarding that Is Essam actual news happening today concerning Mr Johnny Depp, who did apply to the Court of appeal in a bid to overturn the judgment, the libel lawsuit. So even though the judge in the UK said he couldn't do this well, the Yeah, he is applied to the court of Appeal in a bid to overturn. So that was the deadline I think was today or this week was that Johnny Depp had until Early December to decide whether or not he wanted to apply to the court of appeal. So now he has applied to the court of appeal. Okay, and I'm just gonna I'm gonna say this about it. The judge ruled that this case would not be eligible for Kurt of Appeals. So this I think is Johnny Depp just like he thinks His lawyer has convinced him that this would be saying something instead of just letting it go. He doesn't really have any chance of them hearing it again. Luckily for him, so it's his telling it as kind of a face if that's my understanding, Yeah, so he did. He applied directly to the Court of Appeals to overturn the judge's ruling in November on now, he has filed the application. It's publicly available to see and more.
