"Story Black Colleges. How water they don't be out there if they're allowed to be. If they're not allowed to be in the stands, there's going to be until. They get a parking lot. Only surround the fucking stadium if our if I was if I was fucking playing from Maryland and Maryland also, well, this year I'm calling up nor. AM I. Hey. I WANNA play this year. You got a spot for me boom. There should be no penalty to be nothing for the I'll go even further than that. I think. The SEC and the ACC that be track and the and the MAC right we're. The testing's done cost a lot of money. And you know there hasn't been that much income as far as games in their football programs don't generate as much as an ACC. ACC should take up the bill at the for that. Those testing and get everybody down south to play ball. I get that now here's a question. So the big ten again postponed or cancelled one of the two how do you feel if your Mike? Parsons. outside linebacker for Penn State or Rondell more the wider see read produce. How do you feel knowing that you've already opted out but that a season has been canceled or to the practices tend to affect that I think Mike Parsons at Ron more probably already into combat training mode and having given it a second thought. I grew those guys. Now the ones who have opted out those are the ones who are probably going mixed emotion more probably got himself into season is canceled mode two weeks ago. Tour Ripped up big game in the car mortgage Memphis. He knew he was going to be that Guy Right? So his agents and the people I listened. If there's no season, we won't put you away. We don't train you up. We're GONNA. Keep. Going to build your brand, and then when it's time, it's going to be time. So those are is point those type athletes they already headed occur. They're not even they opted out then what would vote and we have we have Lille term is star decisive. We have precedent for this with Nick Boza. Last year you know sitting out, he did play, but he sat out the final three months of the college football students have just train was the second biggest draft and was arguably the best defensive player in football this past season so. I don't think that's necessarily GONNA hurt. These guys who seemed Gregory Rousseau's the top rated address for this year coming out already opted out of Miami. So I don't I don't think this is GonNa hurt some of these blue blue chip guys that are like top guaranteed British rounders. But yeah, I think that this is GonNa hurt the Penn State, nittany lions, Wisconsin Badgers Wolverines, the guys that are going to mid around picks. The teens are not necessarily sure about and guys that don't have elite measurable if you're a cornerback and you're running four or five, five, four, six and you. Can play. But you're does not like a great speed guy This could certainly hurt you because of all, you have to show for know tape from a year ago, and then whatever you combine, which isn't going to be up to par your position you're putting yourself in a great top spots I. Think the draft this year be very interesting is they're gonNA see some really good picks in later rounds that don't have lead miserable 's. I. I had a question for willing. Willie what do you think about the on sanders signing up to the best the second best former NFL player Barstool? I. Love It. I I. It's funny because I I, I was telling large on our show. Away when he was on our show. I have caught up a whole well, full of stuff I want to get off my chest open up. My Day is are we I wanNA hear eighties Florida State Prom. I WanNa hear nine hundred ninety. You know the Atlanta Falcons Dion Sanders is the greatest showman. That's what I want to see. I don't want Joel's being proud but that's that's me being greedy and somewhat selfishly I know he's advocating he's a man of faith and he's a fatherhood and he's talking about mentor men. I don't want to see the Prime Joel State podcast you hammer on the sidelines, Dion. Sanders. I WANNA. See Him I wanNA hear about his days at the white. House out of the DEB. Cowboys Stadium is what you probably wouldn't to hear about that. Regardless. Feel about. I mean I think it's it's awesome. I think it's you know a rising tide lifts all ships and and having somebody. Dion Dion. Sanders is a guy that I don't care what the topic is. It can be football baseball, HAMMA CHEESE SANDWICHES YOU put a microphone in front of him what he's going to give you is going to be electric. And I just I I? It's also I think it raises the stakes for everybody Barstool because the more is going to be on the product and is rate for him 'cause now he's not shackled says. Things to get off his chest guys getting things. I was for thirty years I'd say de. But apparently, he's got it. So now he has a microphone without a corporate suits in there and saying, no, no no, you can't say that. So we'll see. I got one more for you on on the topic I. AM interested here because I don't know if you guys heard the the interviewing today, but he alluded to be on TV like his takes are quick like they're limited to forty five seconds a minute things like that. He is by all accounts of fairly long winded guy in a good storyteller by that by that token I am interested to see how long has podcast is we had a former NFL player maxine. Great Guy. But his first show was three hours long some interesting to see what dion does with no timer. And just whatever he can say unfiltered in front of him, he's getting He's going to be totally electric enver. Listeners that are too young to remember the end. This is the best cornerback of all time I don't think without question. Is, unbelievable Dick..

"So my point is if they want to be doing it on campus, they're gonNA be drinking and socializing. Manner they are going to be I don't see why they can't do that home either I think there's no way of counting on what each individual player is going to do unless you have a system white, the MBA has right now and I don't think they on the any college football team has a system like that. So to speak so I think it's one of those things you damned. If you do damned if you don't as far sharper Lauren's sitting back and saying, well, players go back home they're going to get more trouble. What do you think you give you what do you think is GonNa Happen to a bunch of? One, already, go to class. Is On campus and they have the celebrity to be around campus. They don't against Shit. So we gotta we gotTa Kinda is not all about players go home be respond I knew out 'cause I 'cause more how at at school did admitted at home in the Bronx. But if if like the Big Jim teams are still there workouts, they're still campus they're still on campus are still everything. You just described them going to parties then being their girlfriends that's still going to happen anyway whether they play football or not. I agree with you because it. So my point is if if they go home, right, don't you think individual families will just maybe just made fucking utopia mindset I'm going through right now don't you think mom and dad listen. We. Can't have if you're going to be here we go to isolate you gonNA assume that parents going to be responsible if they. Put a little more restrictions on maybe. Or fests. That's fucking. Talking about you're talking about one, hundred, twenty kids at school not everybody's going back to a loving mom and dad not everybody's going back to you know I went home. My Dad would be doing math on the couch. WHAT'S HE GONNA? Do I totally agree. But what happens when when a kid is in it with is staying off campus as In Koo and and column. Respecting the rules. Don't the school. Apart yeah, we're all. In the Mississippi. Guys. Right you all going to be fucking doing apart like I think it's is like I said it's Dan. Would you do damned if you don't I don't know I. Know. It's a it's. It's a hard situation. There's no easy answers here. I just don't understand why the big ten in the pack twelve made the decision now whereas the ACC in big twelve are our at least planning to play and then they're gonNA assess later see, can we actually do this? So this assessment day know you've been talking about assessment day for is there actually an assessment day for these conferences I'd rather an assessment day per se but the the big drought came out like the big ten. Last. Week releases, schedules, startled September third. That's madness. That's fucking crazy. I been why would they do? That was less than a month from when they released the schedule whereas big twelve sec are all looking at September twenty six that gives them. Now what's eight weeks and then big twelve and has a tendency that they can push back to wingstop Tober tenth and still finished the season. So they're planning to play if they can play, they're just giving themselves some time. So Brian my question dudes maybe this is but no brainer. Why do you the college football drag his feet with this? Dave known since what January February. This was going to be a thing because. There is no leader of college football. Relates College football, the president of the. Is sitting right back saying it's up to the conferences. So it makes up the five individual bodies and buy parts of the country the people in California. I don't think the way that people. Do where they will in New York don't think way Texas do. So that's gotta be anarchy. So the answer there is no leader the only thing the NC double a. ever does step up and punish players were taken by dollars to do by subway sandwich as the only fucking bing they do or those the hard decisions rooms they do nothing nothing they've provided no leadership. They're there to take the money and punish the players and all the stuff they do. That if we're being honest now I hear you. So what are your name a question for you guys? If College football does play. Now we all know the NFL's don't play NFL is going to play. Barring something just collapsing the NFL's plant. So I know that they won't be able to Scout College players on the field, but is will there be some element that. Especially, the star players will fell prefer is not playing and saving some wear and tear on their bodies this year. If you're Trevor Lawrence. Is. Why would you I? I have no idea why he plans to play. Right? Field either those are the first draft are over. There so much footage of those guys like they're. They're. That's their fate is already set so I. Kind of other guys would would depend on the sheet at breakout life. If, Joe does have the last year where does he get drafted? He's undrafted free agent. He's GONNA sex. Okay. But. Anyway I think yeah. That's a good point in what I've heard talks I think pro football talk reported. That's the other day is a quote from packers GM Brian Good ICUs was that through talking about having like a winter combines get kind of earlier feel for these guys because who knows what happens? So teach you. They don't their underwear limping spotted at least gives you a sense of like how guys are maintaining like for example, in like you said, the lockout year two, thousand eleven whatever was you can get fat and attaches a lot of college kids. Info. Gaza. Fat Ass Shit, right now and believe it or they're happy that there's no preseason. The A lot of guys would be exposed and camp right now. But at least give scouts you know GM's etc a little bit more time to evaluate these ads and who knows what happens with Spring football. If there is spring football that messes up the whole drafts, are you how are you holding a draft at the end of? April. The playing football and spring what happens if to has a high ankle to his honestly with the wwl but a player to his caliber justin fields maybe as a high ankle sprain. What are you doing? I'm telling you right now there's there's not going to be in spring football they're either gonNA. Force it in the fall, or there's just not playing at all because it's way as as one other cascal. Turner while they shit all of them that for football and and it's going to be big twelve and. Big Ten pack twelve plan and some Samak teams like I. Just don't, and again I said earlier. Played Ten Games January April and then come back in. August play again that's not that's not right. What should happen? Between the big to whatever conference decides to step. Away. You should. A lot of boy says, we're taking era I. Guess It choice the player not away if I'm you know who's head quarterback fucking. Michigan I don't know is that right now they should have the ability to pick up the volleyball I I still WanNa play I wanNA. Go Down to Houston and finished my senior with no penalties no nothing and just go because to your point brand new. Problems for. On you can't tell a guy. With our why we did to play or not to play right you've already taken a decision way but don't take away decision. If you choose to step away and say listen you made the choice for me I can't control the conference in the powers-that-be. Let me go to fuck game. Let me go down and Clemson and play with his team and let me give a move over what I needed to do I. think that's that's that that should happen. But I also, we'll go to I think it will be interesting to see guys like a field or other players where their conference is they appear to be high draft picks at the same time there's one year of tape on you look at guys with one year of tape. Joe Borough Women, he had more than one year but you know Mitch Trubisky Mark Sanchez. These types of high drafted quarterbacks have one year of tapes. What happens if you're justin fields in you're like well, I might be the second thing I could be a top five could be a top ten pick. I could go to like you said like a Houston or somewhere, and I, could solidify my top status by putting more good tapan is it worth the risk probably I? It is an opportunity for these guys to do that. If that were made available I, think that would be very interesting. But you know what days missing the boat and having spoken about all and they need to be fucked stopping a feet shaken pulling cupboard a drawing attention to themselves the HDZ use. This. Opportunity from them stand up and say, Hey, those that I wanNA play. We Still WanNA play if you want one or two years to go come to us because one day brandon could tell you being down and coast Jackson's.

"Going deep podcast. We got Super Bowl champion. Cologne. On everybody is a Stephen Fay. Wild show today. So we've got enormous news on all ends of the spectrum. We've got dion sanders joining bar. So we're GONNA air his interview with Willie from Barcelona breakfast happened today we're taping us on Wednesday that happened this morning right as the news came out. We also talk with Brandon parcells own zone. I guess. Now we're. Airing interview to are. So people we talked to Brandon Walker about a college football landscape what all this means the big ten impact twelve announcement. There are canceling their fall sports, which includes football. So huge news there that's going to completely change. The NFL off season the draft you know they play Spring Football. We talk you'll pretty deep on that with him and kind of what that means why these things happen very fun show. But I, we gotta talk about Primetime Primetime Dion Sanders neon dion the greatest cornerback to ever play in the NFL. The greatest athlete to ever live as joined Barstool. Willie, what was your immediate reaction when you heard the news? Man I got the call from Erica. Nardini Seo last night I was laying in bed with the wife and kid. As listen I, want you to give you the heads up. Aka, Brown, and. From on is our conversation she wants to. Know be talking about diversity here in Boston but I mean prime doesn't just bring diversity I mean he brings celebrity is the biggest celebrity higher bars who has ever had. Done you know we throw it a word icon around he is and I got us the most iconic figure I think today We'll go down in the books for. From his college career to his pro career to have the even after his career how he was able to Kinda grow NFL network fourteen years. Yeah. So it's You don't you. You're not watching super bowls without prom on a desk not you're not. You're not saying who's the fastest athlete of all time or at what point without dropping the sanders his name. For. All these young athletes I talk about swag and drip and all that. Was the drip. Yes, he admitted to the Joe. He was pure pure cocaine veins baby so There is nobody when I heard the news I remember I said bed for like man. Like. What's next like the it was just so big. It felt so big and You know I know PMT and I'm talking about on their podcast they dropped it. We was able to talk to him personally on our memorial me in large. A with him about what was one of the reasons he decided to join? Barstool. For Mafia the villain I got even after I talked to him in a we walked off the show. Sounds like prime. In his is wild to say it sounds like prom feels like people don't quite know who he is. You know what I mean like he has so much unleashing ravel that. You know he he wants to tell the world who he is and where he's coming from because he was saying prime had a reality show. He's dating an married to Tracey Edmonds. He's always on anywhere football he's around his two sons are extremely popular. Now on social media, play a South Carolina other ones I. Think he's going to Florida Atlantic Afford International and. He does a lot on social media A. Asked in from. Social media aspect so He's he's one of those guys man that always always evolving always around you know whether you're paying attention to whatever sport you're into he somehow pops up and so it it's it's wild to see that he will be wearing abortion swisher. He'll be walking barstool floors. I was he won't be here a lot. I I can't I can count on our how many appearances will seattle prime on head or the floors probably five out of the year. He's Doing a lot from his ranch in Dallas, but he is a world traveler I mean, this guy is no stranger to the air I wouldn't speak whenever he's in New York. He's absolutely going to stop by and I wouldn't that be a couple times a year. So I mean we'll see at all all this is so new and undefined to me we. You know we talked about a very brief last night before announced Ericsson's email this morning at six am and of announcing the news, and then the came out on bustle breakfast permit take interview with him as well. So it's all very, very sudden I would say like Schefter tweeted out yesterday the dion was leaving NFL network into me at the time I was like Oh. Wow DNC the NFL guy had no knowledge of him. Essentially in the words at. Arsenal. So it all happened very quickly from someone that's inside the company and some Littman. Oh, it all happened very quickly and it was an absolutely a jaw on the ground signing and speaking of air travel I. Don't know if you've heard this willy. The legend of Dion Sanders combat. So he was, I believe the fifth pick in the one, thousand, nine, hundred, nine drafts, and for the combine the story goes that he took private plane to indy for the combine got off gotten a limo went to the combine suited up and all he was GonNa do was run the forty because there was some debate on exactly how fast he was everyone knew he was fast but they didn't necessarily know how fast time speed watts so. Iran. reports of the official time vary slightly you will say that he ran in below four, two or four, one nine. Charley casserly has handwritten records from that, and he has anywhere between four to seven and four, three three. Either any way you slice this guy was incredibly fast her a story Michael Irvin was telling about when Dion Sanders became prime time. He said it was a game in Miami Michael Urban. I was going for the Miami your answer the time you're in an out and up and he said Dionne bit on the out. And so Michael Irvin is wide open. He's waiting for the ball. He's just you know thinking, throw the ball throw it is a Deanne caught up to him, hit it off my gloves on the ground the catch and holding the ball up in the air you know going the other way with it, and that is how primetime was born but he is just So Electric I. Mean I remember even in his later years the NFL. Finishes Grid with the Ravens but he was with the INS in the early two thousands maybe two, thousand, two, thousand one, and he had a punt return to beat the bucks I think having the fourth quarter overtime is I mean his first NFL game, he took back a punt return against the rams. To Score, this guy has more stories than anyone can tell as someone who's in my position you know I can. Get to hang out with you. You know a famous player you know we went. This year I would say pretty much everyone knew who you were. We was cool for me because I'm like hey. I'm with this guy like nobody knows oser. I. Would say, almost all the NFL players new you're. Dion Sanders No. Disrespect to you Dan Sanders. If he walks into a place bartenders know who he is. The way doesn't know who is every person in the room knows Dion Sanders says it's another level.

"Keep living indeed right there and joining us right now. The Academy Award Winning Actor Matthew mcconaughey back here on the rich Eisen show. How are You Matthew Motors Greg? I'm doing good. I'm sitting in my own thrown with my initials over my head. Well Dion is sitting in the state of Texas. I guess everybody from the State of Texas runs right down with the on. Believable Dion is one of a kind. Hey man this is a beautiful thing. How did it come about? Yeah and so you know me like everybody sitting home the last five weeks and I'm sitting there trying to say what's the what's the message that need to get out and win and I mean a month ago. It was clear we need to stay home. And then about two and a half weeks came very clear when he met where mass put out this thing in English and played this character. Bobby Bandido you can call me bobby. B About Wearing bandannas and then my the mayor of our city Austin to look the Spanish communities not getting the message to wear the mask. Did some research town state and United States worldwide noted? That was happening. All over the world spent speaking. Weren't getting the message so I said who they listen to. You might listen to me speaking my broken Spanish but I need to find somebody else can speak it better than me that they would look up to. So I'd met Canal years ago with the golden gloves. Event called him and he said he was in. I wrote it directed him overtaxed. And that's what we got. No kidding okay by the way again I'm I'm not fluent It doesn't sound broken amine. Sounds like you're pretty pretty fluent in the in the last kind of being kind of policy modest sudden I I do like it so so is that it's a one take situation with you in Spanish at the at the one takes it up canal. It was it was to Texas Canal because he was in San Diego and I talked to cameraman who is holding his iphone over there just about some framing but other. Cannella was one. Take as well. So you are directing him from like you're live. You're sitting there and say okay. Move this over. Move that over and then and Canelo Alvarez just stuck the landing and then you gotTa say absolutely stuck it. Yeah so hopefully that message get out. It was fun to do and never go found another place to put. Just keep living but did it in Spanish to sell US median pro. And we're seeing right now on the screen A mask that says. Just keep living as well across my face. Yeah exactly and then the JK Living Foundation Jay Lin Foundation Dot. Org founded By you and Camilo so today you're providing meals and also laptops because again the number of kids who depend on meals through school and obviously homeschooling for some is not simple at all because they don't have the equipment in order to connect to schools so I wonder how you got involved in that Matthew. Well I mean a lot of the students that we serve through. Our Foundation are in these towns. One schools in a lot of them are depending on some two meals a day from school. I mean that was that was two of their three meals a day. They were getting from school so now they can't go to school. They missing two meals. So we're providing as many males to them and their families as we can in the other thing a lot of them you know not. They're out of school. They Wanna continue learning that they don't have the means to. They didn't have a laptop or they didn't have a hot spot so we started working up some funds and got some laptops out and Gosh some hot spots where they didn't happen. Jk Live and foundation dot Org to get involved in that and And help out or see some more and the All in challenge. I'm seeing so much about that. You're involved in that too right math. Yeah yeah that. That's nothing about about feeding the people that need it. You know right now Yeah I've got A. I'm putting the Game Day experience down here in Austin Texas and Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium. This college football feeding kicks off. Who wants to come to town here? "Mlb The show. Because it's something that clearly a lot of guys are starting to get involved in and more guys are getting interested in opening twitch accounts Lucas Jr Alito Chicago. White Sox. He just opened up a twitter account. After after seeing Carlos robot enjoy it so kind of thing is is starting to grow and I think guys starting to get a sense of how not only for for for players to connect with fans. But it's also a way for them to build their brands and you know build for a life outside of baseball as well. Yeah you could see it like in the regular workout regimen for some of these guys Blake Snell lifts weights on Wednesday. has a bullpen session. On Thursday Has an off day on on Friday Saturday Sunday. He plays video games with fans during the course of the game. I mean baseball. Baseball's almost uniquely positioned to to. You know there's so much downtime. For a lot less players they can just sit in dugout and talk and you can get a sense of what that dugout chatter light. I mean I think it's I think it's a really good idea. Honestly now that I think about it twice to to Michael Guys who aren't playing in the game having a starter on his off day just chat with fans might be really good wages to get a get a different players and I think create a kind of a more uniquely intimate baseball experience. Yeah one hundred percent you did that in the clubhouse that that that would be pretty cool. He brings people into that that atmosphere. That was the amazing. All Right Jim. Thanks for doing this. They have bus really appreciated luxury. Walters manage twenty years in the big leagues. Fifteen hundred fifty one career wins in bucket. Bring YOU IN A. I'm excited about this conversation. Because they've known you for a long time. But as I said the Aaron Boone when we had him on a couple of weeks ago I never had asked him about that home run he hit in two thousand three AOL CS. Because I worked with him. I didn't want to be like the green fly. You know the fan boy asking questions so this kind of gives me an opportunity. Ask You questions like that. Don't ask me about the anything. That's really painful. Please buster. It's part of. It's always a back story. Those things you know so many things. I wish I'd asked people on the way. Never feel like you're putting them out. Well I appreciate you taking the time and joining us. I storytelling one when we're out without baseball games A few years ago I think your last year when you were managing the Orioles I I remember how you invited Dion Sanders to come to cannon yards. And I didn't realize up until that time that you guys are very close and that you know. Then I've made sense. Dion was in the Yankees Organization when you were in the Yankees Organization. Tell me about him and how you guys always connected well beyond you know. He came from somewhere area of the country. There was a real connection theon personality of the football player and the way he projected himself as a baseball player. Two totally different guys. He wasn't primetime in baseball and Very Smart Guy He's still lives here in Dallas. We is son over at Soda. Messes we sit together sometime at basketball games but Beyond that group we had a group in Albany New York in the Eastern League that won that year and beyond was probably the most popular teammates. They're not because he's Tom COM. Just the way he treated everybody was he was just one of the guys. He understood that the difference between but I remember calling him to tell him he was going to the big leagues and he thought I was telling him to go. He's going to AAA and I called him at home one night. I said it's girlfriend. John say whatever answer the phone I said? Hey can I speak to be honest? Theon would eat beans pork chops and skull potatoes. Almost every night loved him and he finally he finally gets to the phone. That's what's up. He goes I'm just eating. I said listen They want to call you up. They want you to go up and it goes fuck you know I. I love the guys here man. We're GONNA win this year. I think and subway triple as kind of a lateral move. I assume say here and I said you don't understand you're going to New York. And he dropped the phone. I hear him going baby baby coming here. Pick up the phone talked about. It was one of the it was one of the great send ups. Oh I can't I couldn't hardly get him back on the phone but A lot of people didn't get dion and I enjoyed getting things about him. He was a fast guy. I ever had not even close. Think about your fast. It's got and there's another year there. He could actually outrun the baseball. It was breathtaking to watch him. Run triple out. It was. It was worth play being there and just the things that you can do. Tell you through. Well he had a lot of power. That people didn't know if you've been full-time baseball sky was the limit he was. He was a special talent. You Know Buck. I'm so thrilled to hear. You say that because when I have friends family or if I do stuff with fans and people ask me. What's the coolest thing that I ever saw a baseball field? I said watching Dion Sanders. Senate triple. That was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen but for people talk about stuff in the big leagues that I'm remember the most. It might have been coach and third base for an inside the park. Home Run Dion Sanders. Look it up sometime Bo Jackson him. We're going back and forth before we play Kansas City about. He couldn't tackle and beyond with say Akkad out running. And this guy was smartness. Got What smart about time they got to New York. It was on. I mean it was on. We weren't very good. We hadn't scored a run in a month and the first two times a Bo his whole months and the little down the Doug because you know it was beau versus beyond. I kind of walk bombs to come home and I got a Lotta game. Let's go well. He hits the ball in the right. Centerfield and Bo Dives Fort Separate. The shoulder vouch for the year by the way ball. Rolls to the fence comes around second and it is beautiful. I mean there's dirt Flying Jerry. Curls are working and he gets to third and I think those Bianca WanNa headed back to the Infield just thinking. It was a sure. Stand UP TRIPLE AND MCFARLAND was out in front of the plate and I start pumping and like I said. We haven't scorn awhile. It's two outs and beyond guessing another gear. He looks at me like this crazy. Guy's GonNa send me and I gotta say Dirt Meryl's Home Played on par and the ball comes in. He's out by maybe Tennessee. I'm running down the line with him. Obviously behind him and the ball short hops in hits off McFarland's chest. Dion has to go up in the air over the top McFarland. Get his hand back on the plate before he can retrieve the ball and tagging bang. Bang safe and I gotTa tell you the place went crazy crate. It was I. I got to go back to third base. I'm going back in the dug-out Denman's found migos brother. He said if you lost your mind what you doing I said de Vaux showing up out there. You gotta see it you know. Take it back man. That was fun. That was sound blaster. Yeah that I was. That's great I was GonNa ask you if you want to ask. You set a ask you about the decision to send him in that situation Yeah he he. He would have absolutely been amazing. I WanNa ask you about working for George Steinbrenner. What was of course People know that behind the scenes. He could be so tough. You know all those years going through managers. What was the most angry that he ever got it. You Oh Jeez Buster While you know I think he would. He would try to get it through coaches. He knew that my sauce fought would for coaches who are good coaches and doing their job. Release reason why I left. New York was over for four coaches and he wanted to fire but I if he would live through I was lucky to have jean-michel deflected a lot of those things but he got a little easier to work for With every manager I think you know I think Joe got a softer guy. I think the guy behind Joe got a software guy was I you know there were some some very private moments where he would just hammer away and there. It was just like you know anything that was obvious or he had told you about happening I remember he came in one morning early. One morning. Brian butterfill now. We're going to do in the schedules. It's been seven o'clock in the morning and he came in all he said. Was you out in call butter by name. And so of course you know clete boyer gets a big name placard and puts it over. Brian's Locker W. e. new name where you out but you know there was a certain there was a certain Fraternity and Camaraderie of guys. You know you Kinda took it. You know it was coming your way. He made sure he didn't crack somebody else. Enter IN OTHER WORDS. The pitching coach. You don't say the INFIELDER OUTTA position or they've made a bunch of errors behind your Fisher to try to support your yourself because now you have dragged the infield coach into so there was no. You're going up the elevator late at night. Form of meetings. Everybody knows. Somebody's got a bullseye on their back. And you just need to wear it take like a man 'cause no it'll be somebody else the next time and guys would get back on the elevator and pat each other on the pet. The guy on the back of that war at that time and it was part of the job description. I understood it when I took the job that he was going to be. Part of the job description. But you know you can only take so much. If if he knew that he could run all over. You're going to be there at some point. You hadn't expand all right. Tell us about Don Mattingly in the nineteen ninety five playoffs. I was not covering the team at that time. But Michael K of course longtime broadcast for the Yankees. Tell stories about about Donnie ramping. Up for that series knowing that that would be it started about three weeks earlier. You know we had probably one of the best September's and Gangqi history to get in the playoffs. We we had the replacement camp and all. This stuff is awful Donnie. I'd taken a lot of grief about continued to play Donnie hitting third. Because he was he said but to sixty with not much power numbers in it but I knew his back was killing and also knew that our our players just funneled and and set off him so much. You meant so much to our club. This being on the field. Donnie came in one day. So that's I say I'm going forward either. You not hit me thirty. I said listen. Don't tell me where my hitch in the batting order. I he said You I'm going for it. I said what do you mean? He said I'm going to start talking my back and this and that whatever and eat it blows out doesn't blow out. He said we're not getting the playoffs. And let's start acting like a first baseman of the Yankees. So he went for. I am their eleven o'clock in the morning with all the stuff he did with his back. Just try to get and I gotTa tell you buster for two or three weeks it was don mattingly all I was like. Oh my God every swing you might be his last and he put on a show in the playoffs but also remember coming back from Seattle. He came up set down. You know you're talking about three games on that turf out there to the buck. I'm done just once. You know I want you and stick the no before also even gets here that I'm done. My boys need me at home. He had some situation at home. Back won't let me do what I need to do. I don't I the surgery I can't. I'm not sure about it. And so him telling us that. "No at some point where you guys come back. You guys will talk about it because you'll never ever do this again. So fast forward. I'm in Carolina. A Matt Rules Press Conference One guys. That was in net room. May Brad Hoover Brad. Hoover was our fullback with the Coastal Carolina. He's a legend in Carolina. They love him. I hadn't seen Brad Hoover and ten years prior to that day when I say Matt Rule at his press conference and it hit me when we when we did our thing I was like. Wow Matt Matt rule brought us together however this song live three miles from. He lives three miles from my house his house my. How's come over here and it was crazy because when we did our show we did a production meeting and because so that it reminded me of that story I have? I went on played a football game. One of my closest friends at that time and yet yet we stayed out of touch for ten years and it just is somewhere is really fancy. This has a lot of fancy this on the couch and I go. I could do this or I could be here. I could do that but a lot of these men and women. Now that put so much time and effort into this game and I've learned analysts we show up so many hours before but there are so many men and women who later carpet lighting water. Football players are sleep while we're eating pre game meal. They're doing all those things so I as analysts. I won things as I really feel ashamed. Oh and I'll say now is I didn't appreciate gate. I believe the engine the wheels and tires help all this go on C. just to Q.. Cars the luxury vehicles but without the tires without the spark plugs being changed without to all without the radiator without the windshield wiper fluid being refilled. None of this exists and I didn't know that as a player so now's analysts when I go on said a lot of times if I sit there and shake the hand of every camera man or woman. Because if they don't do their job now I look stupid or some people that's watching. This stupider depends on nightside right so that's one of the things that as a football player layer. I feel ashamed. I didn't respect but now is the analysts. I respect the men and women that allow us to get our game started that we the game is is going to be a eight o'clock however people up three four five eight. AM in the morning. Getting things prepared down no doubt amend to that. I'm into that and everybody that's obviously.

"Exploited? The skinny is really kind of turning sideways in the whole right and so the hallways they're skidding and yeah and the linebacker came right across and as a had the ball here he came right across. Because usually you go here I turn here exposing posing the ball and he had a perfect shot hit me the ball bounce up in the air and luckily then saved the day for me but it it could have been a you. You know I hate to say you know another guy's name but a bill buckner type moment. Because had he had we lost that game that would have been the end of my career. And that's that's definitely all everything everybody would talk about. You wouldn't even be talking about that. You know what I might be a little more sensitive to it. If you fumbled and you guys didn't get to the Super Bowl you might. Yeah Yeah because I believe that. Yeah I've been around that terrible. No I'm close but not no I. I would have been sensitive to you. Know we start to look at running back Jerome. It's kind of hard to figure out what is great now because it's a different label to what is like Derrick Henry. Twenty years ago fifteen years ago. That's what the NFL was and we brought back old school. A little. The titans but I don't know will we see A. Is that the new thing. Possibly that the running back is going to be that big physical back or is there just only one on Derrick Henry. I think what you want to see is teams figuring out what they have at quarterback and I think what you have at quarterback is going to determine what you need at running back. If you've got a really outstanding quarterback I e Patrick Mahomes then no. You're not going to invest I in that running back because the odds of you running. You know four times a game very slim right so you. You'RE GONNA put a make the investment vestment in the receivers around your quarterback. If you don't have that superstar quarterback the now you have to think about how are we going to be successful breath in the NFL. Because it's not impossible. And I think the Tennessee. Titans proved at any age. You can still run the football and win football games. So I think the quarterback position determines because it Tennessee had a really good quarterback. Henry wouldn't have had the opportunity to run the football. The only only reason he ran the football so much this year because the quarterback situation deteriorated to the point. Where they said we're going to give you thirty carries because we're not sure sure if we want to throw the football thirty times and they saw they had a star in in Henry and they said okay? We're going to keep it going but then comes uh-huh decision at quarterback now if you go out and try to go get a you know expensive quarterback or if you keep tenny hill then you wanna WanNa keep running back if you go out and try to trade for a star quarterback than I think. You're going to let the running back go but if the titans would bring in Tom Brady are are you keeping Derrick Henry yes because one you WANNA help. Tom Thought about forty times right. But you know when he does throw he's GonNa be accurate passer. Make the right decision and you may be able to prolong his career. Maybe a year or two. Because you're gonNA give the bulk of the work the running back. I know that you told me this story. I hope you didn't tell it to me in confidence but if you did it's no longer in confidence you told me about the Super Bowl Ben Rothlisberger first super bowl and how the moment you get ready for the moment but the moment was too big for him like you guys. The veterans were kind of calming calming him. Down in the huddle what you remember about that. It was it was one of those he wanted to win the game. You know what I mean. There's not that's not uncommon you. We saw what happened. Baltimore's same situation. You had a quarterback who's having the MVP year and he wanted to win the game and and and there was some times in Baltimore Ravens playoff game where the quarterback probably should give the ball to the running back but instead he he wanted to keep it because he wanted to have a bigger impact in a game. That's that's normal for a young quarterback in here young in this Super Bowl Mike that moment but but but these guys are me being with the second year early quarterback yeah so And you know in Baltimore more. Obviously you've got a second quarterback so as you get older you realize that the moment is not as big and and thebenz credit. Did he settled down in that game. But you know the game tune. It wasn't so much me talking to him as much as he was allowing the game to to happen. You know what I mean when you when you go out there and things are going away. You have to kind of reassess everything and we had a veteran team so everybody was got on the same page and we were fine. Yeah it's just you know that moment where guys throw up before the Super Bowl. Yeah did you know I didn't. It wasn't my hometown. I was excited. This is a big moment but you gotta remember too. I was the hours e and the wrapping paper so to speak because I wasn't doing the heavy lifting running the football and I was the quarterback so I was the wrapping paper that you tear off and you you get to the hit stuff our worst game. Starting you tear me off the end of that when when Myron cope the legendary broadcaster. I called you the bus. What did you think of that nickname? So so the story. They heard me be called the bus. We went up to Wisconsin. And one of the coaches Wisconsin was at Notre Dame and his brother was tied on my team and long story short. I'm in the lobby in. He says hey. A bussey doing coaches former coach lane. And then Bill Hillgrove and Marco we heard him say it and then that next preseason game we replaying Wisconsin and gives Green Bay. He said he kind of looks like a boss. That's talk and the rest is history before well. When Notre Dame had two nicknames? I had I had the bus but also had big daddy bigotry quick as a caddy. That's why they call it. It sounds like something. No it was the officer line. The legendary offense Lineman Joe Moore. Who was who had coached on his guys at Pitney was at Notre Dame he he came up with that that low the biggest truck quick as a caddy? That's why I call them big daddy dion downstairs in the green room marching. Did he ever tackle you. He made some really good business decisions. But I'll tell you and that's his term. He came up with that term But when he would do he was so good he was so fast that he will go by and he would just be which was which is the best way to do it. Well there's speed and then there's there's world like Tyreek Hill you look at him and you go. He's faster than than everybody. Yes right dion on had that he had that kind of speed where he was just fascinating. Everybody he's told he always tells the story about when he was trying to tackle bow and he was a freshman. I think for the state. And he said Bo Jackson baptized him. He did that hand on the forehead. I leave on the grounds. How's that happens on my favorite story? You're you had surgery spine. Surgery and new is the the company that you're working with. Explain what happened in how they've helped you've come to so after retired and we talked about it. I mean I was starting to get really a beat up and I think that was partially why you stay with me in that run that we had. Because I was paying and dillon with some issues I am and they got progressively worse. I started to play golf and I thought that I was okay. But I really wasn't in and then having kids playing with the kids. My quality quality of life started to deteriorate really quickly so I started to do some research because I knew I needed a fusion for my back and I started. I found the right surgery surgery which was called exit surgery and then I needed to find the right surgeon found the right surgeon. Dr My name Dr Ebay. He was world.

"When someone can show jerry business side of this don't equate business wise and often time that's that's probably one of his siblings feel twenty his kids right the show him that and it just don't equally in it should equate it because i don't see where you go from here i'm saying this simple reason is where does he go from here because it's not a lot of teams with a great quarterback that can get you the ball to steal available to has your price tag is not a lot of teams has an assessor of winning and they understand they got to win and they want us that now so you could lease it's not that so the sunset is not a lot of off into the sunset with a dismal career and that's why i feel sorry for this one hundred percent are really do what prime flipper let me play devil's advocate here and in this particular situation dez bryant like you said clearly is not what it used to be hasn't had a thousand dollars even season since twenty fourteen of the eight of the eight receivers you know getting paid twelve plus million i mean he was the one that he was the only one that wasn't averaging a thousand yard seasons his career when you take all of those things in the consideration let me come back at you i know the show that you there near the counters but number one show in the country how you doing and i watch every mode of that so i got to come back that's those other quarters receivers that you're talking about the one thing that they ultimately have consistently isn't order back now say you've been going back and forth with romo's then who's heard that room was not end and he's in now you got a deck okay working in and out you get over the land who gave five sex one man and one game that don't make sense so the inconsistency is not just him the inconsistency is what this office it would this team is not just days since there's the high profile bigger there he gets the bulk of the brain but that comes along with being the dog and being the.

"Does the worst side of is he's twelve million dollar receiver great perceives or fifteen sixteen correct yes mitt receivers tenets wail average receivers around the five seven eight ranks this is he's worth it i don't like the nfl may when you could tell the world you gave me a deal three three weeks later you could change three years you could change your mind what does that change my mind in the middle of a contract is that you know what i want money now the bad guy i don't like it what so ever i wish it was guaranteed like the nba when you hear a hundred million they get the hut we do see best baseball when you hear a hundred million two hundred but what you hear voting they get forty and then could get could did you ways on organization i don't like it one bit if i think is gave them the best option no he wasn't the dan that we want to do in look but the cowboys hasn't been that team that we want to ten is right here with steven on espn radio remember the news today breaking news the dallas cowboys have released wide receiver dez bryant he had been with them to pass eight seasons played in one hundred thirteen games over that period of time court five hundred and thirteen passes for seven thousand four hundred and fifty nine yards in a franchise record seventy three receptions clearly still a best receive on the cowboys clearly somebody was worth twelve million at least twelve million dollars in is of prime time dion sanders the greatest corn in the history of football but yet the dallas cowboys released so with that being said primetime knowing your connections to the dallas cowboys knowing how much jerry jones loves and values you why do you think jerry jones ultimately made this decision to let go over receiver that clearly is the best option that you have in comparison to whatever is out there for you know that you ever sells apparel is wales age everywhere but when it comes down to jerry does business.

"I don't like it because i still feel and i noticed position that dan has something to offer is there's home i believe so you'd be willing to conform to some thanks i believe so is he still the vargas not arguably the best receiver on the roster i believe so but you gotta understand what took place last year is sufficient defense what a bag somewhat rattle in the second year eight not being there for the most part of the year opens ain't nobody can't clear the middle of the field out for no reason with a tiny indicate run like you used to that you got just not receiving paying dividends like he wants to move the chain but dez gets the bulk of the behave i don't understand is the day that he was several years ago i'm not the man that was yesterday it's just a metric possession of in age but he's still is the best receiver on that team i don't see a replacement i don't see where you go from there i don't see you getting better even if you rich down in the draft is gonna take a working a couple years even get to their point unless you're conceding wedding for the next two three years is right here with steven ao on espn radio dez bryant was due twelve point five million this upcoming season base salary attached to it weighty sixteen point five million dollars cap hit according to the nfl nfl dot com so you're talking about the cowboys by letting him go dionne primetime saving themselves about eight million dollars against the cap this season with the move when you hear that does that change your mind in any way.
