"Right. Yeah. Yeah. Jason writes in the College Football Season does not happen at all this year which teams benefit the most. which suffer the most consider players coming outgoing lost momentum coaches, aging coaches getting another year when maybe they don't deserve it, etc etc. Show your work. I like the end of this. This is a clay Helton question, right? Yes. This is this is how Klay Helton Days USC until thousand twenty. Five. What is your answer? Obviously, Clay Helton is a short-term winner. He doesn't have to play Alabama. He's given more time to sort of get the USC program an order from a coaching and personnel and general infrastructure standpoint and coaches like Klay Hilton who you know have been hanging on whoever that coaches, who can coach may be coming off a an uncharacteristic bad twenty nineteen. That's going to go farther and farther into the rear view mirror. Dino Baber Syracuse somebody who followed up a pretty exciting year with a disappointing one in all that challenging conference that you know Pat Fitzgerald probably a big winner. You know the even though northwestern isn't huge national name northwestern had a pretty terrible year David Shaw pretty big winner or not no. Making about Stanford's disappointing twenty nineteen as much. So from an optics standpoint teams like that from a coach's aging further, I don't know if there's an obvious answer there I mean there's no reason to think Nick Saban's retiring because of age at this point, there's no now Obama's still getting it done. Momentum. Wise. Maybe I think schools that have a lot of obvious first round second round picks who are either not gonNA play because the season isn't happening or opt out because they don't WanNa take that chance Ohio Clemson or schools like that. But I think I have a lot like. Yeah if there is no season. and. You know I don't know what that means for players like Ian Book or any books type of situation. It puts schools like Notre Dame in a bind or you've got maybe that returning quarterback and who knows with the eligibility thing is maybe he wants to take a run at the NFL for so I mean who knows now if you're an book yeah, of course. It strikes me as put your really coming at me today. Is My presence permeating your take snarky permeating the show? Sorry. Sorry Sir I feel for the group. Of Five schools I think there are the big losers. Certain on the power five it's. GonNa. Put you in a bit of a state of financial ruin. That's the answer to me. Schools have recruited really really well recently, and can absorb the loss of newly eligible to the NFL for the NFL draft players, your traditional powers. May perhaps coaches in year two who have put together their first real recruiting cycle, and so they have their players in the system and have more time to get to know their players, strengths and weaknesses if there's able to be practiced in some way, I also think big losers are new coaches. Because, you coaches are desperate to see what they have with their players and to see what the new school is like and just to to get out on the field and make sense of everything in either a year zero year. One situation those are you know Mike Novell at Florida State is GonNa say yeah. An Pittman at. All. These guys those are those are big losers who are in its champing at the bit I learned but you can say chomping at the bit to just know what they have. No. What it's like to be a head coach for these guys those are those are some pretty big losers there. This is a fun question. It's from Dan, and then beneath Dan is one from Dave. So we've got Dan and Dave coming back here. Shutout. Reebok's Outta is Dan Club right. It is it is I'm telling you. It's. If there is spring football, how will we designate the twenty twenty, one spring and Fall Seasons Twenty One and twenty one B. Twenty twenty one in two, thousand and twenty one dash to judgment season. twenty-one a new hope and twenty one, the season strikes back twenty twenty one excellent adventure in twenty twenty, one bogus journey. This Question Yeah. It's going to be Spring Twenty, one, twenty, one, it's going to be a semester type thing I, I would imagine. So I would say twenty twenty one spring semester fall semester but let's get creative with this Dan. You Know You've done the ACC fat land. We've come up with great names like Duke of his Art Allen Lazard right. Is a of outfit here spring forward fall back. I was thinking something like that. Yada incorporate the spring and the fall. I think daylight savings is a sham. We've all watched. We know. Sure. Okay. So you're talking spring and fall seasons and how we go about I mean spring break. What is what is it good idiom with fall? By the way if we have a season in this too. Yeah there is a fall break but it we have a season in the spring and it ends after six weeks. That's a Spring Break Brl Aka. because. Tie, right I'll give it some more thought. You can let us know how it's weird I. It's hard to imagine they'd have. A. Full Spring and a full fall season it's hard to imagine they would say. Yeah. I'm we're GONNA need you to play to some teams. Twenty. Eight Games Twenty Nine two games in twenty. That's a lot to ask. That's a lot to ask is. To just take a summer, often I'd have a full offseason. Then what that does to recruiting and official visits and signing glasses I don't know I think it's if anything's going to happen I think it'll be an attempted fall season. Happen it doesn't happen, and then they're going to try again in August of next year if they really feel good about like a bank, only five game schedule in April May. I can understand having five and then a full season in the fall. Beyond that. It's too far. Then you're going to see a lot more PAC twelve players united acc players, United Mountain. West players, united all that's going to start up to really come into play. I. Mean we saw what happened when what the NFL tried to add one more game. With the players union push back on so and I understand why they didn't want her to more games whatever. It's can get pretty dicey. All right. So we don't think on. Namesti. On this, we'll put this out there. Maybe, on social media that'd be good. One Dave staying with the subject of playing games in the spring. Could we get a non traditional champion? If, they even have a playoff style champion. This is an interesting question to me. Dan. You know it's not likely. It's the same teams playing most the same teams right there. Just confining it a little bit more to conference but. I'll hearken back to something I said on the last show without the non conference games typically, you would use those just to get a check on where teams are relative to one another. It's much tougher to compare conferences if you don't have the Non Conference Games. So without that, in lieu of that, again, it is Barry, Alvarez or people like Barry Alvarez in a room arguing about it. And that to me seems like a great recipe for some weird stuff to happen now is going to be tough to leave the big guns out the Clemson's in the Ohio states and certainly the Oklahoma's right. But it it stands to reason I. Think if it were going to happen at all and if we were going to have a weird like odd ball team that works their way into the playoff. This would sort of be the year that it would happen because everything that will have to go on will be much more of a limited sample size. What if?.

"Don't know if I've told you before, but I was under over Cam of at Baltimore and I remember watching him to throw a thinking guy looks so much better than everyone else you just you viewed him as a prodigy and he's always been that when he got in high school now, I got to college football and so yeah, like he looks he looks like that sort prospect will fall in line. The next question becomes, where does he go and what organization is going to be a part of? La Aussie, went to a good place. You could make the case. Luck. You don't went to an organization that is viewed as a good organization, the colds, but I don't know how how well they built at around him during his time there, which led to a lot of injuries and led to a short career and adult that we ever saw maximize what he was capable of, but there's no doubt he was he was on. Track a hall of Famer Yeah. So yeah, I mean that's where I'm at on him. I think the more Alaskan more like him. I. Think the one thing I'll be curious to see because. You saw it a little bit versus Clemson, and then a little bit versus Wisconsin the more people who tested are pressured him. And will. Be, must, pass situations. He struggled a bit like look. A lot of young guys are first year starting. We'll do this, but he struggled to find a second and third guy in some of his reads and progressions, and so that's what I would like to see from this year is like Venus sit back, scan the whole field, let rip you not ever having to rely on him to take off to make something happen. Dino play the plaque I know his big and strong and athletic I just want to see him. Do that more consistently is they. They've got such an embarrassment of riches wide receiver. Someone's going to be open like I. Some will be open in st next year. Yeah, and he's like I mean, physically he's everything you want. Right? Like physically he's. He's I. Mean Maybe Not Lawrence, but he's not far off now. He's not far off at all I I think the biggest thing he lacks he hasn't had the championship, he hasn't. He hasn't had the experience. But he's pretty darn close, and so you know we'll see how he continues to aggressive. He can close that gap this year. Okay. Last thing for me then, and I just want to make this a general thing because we've seen some of the. kind of like how the NFL season's going to be sideways, right? Like like we've seen guys coming on the COVID list going off the covid list I think it's fair to say, we're probably going to see a little bit of that probably all year long even if things go really well, there's going to be sort of different field of this year. Account important. You think the the quarterback is going to be this year in. Keeping everything together and keeping everything level. Against sort of thought about this, like what teams are going to be at the most the biggest advantage in how like maybe having that steadying presence in the locker rooms, really going to mean something for you know a team like a Seattle like a New Orleans like a Kansas City. How do you think all this is going to sort of the role of the quarterback or maybe kind of put more on his plate that he already had. Yes. So I'll see if you as the most important position and reason being because a least for that that one third phase that player that singular player has the most control to adapt change, and so when things don't look like they're going or like you've got bad play call, this is a bad look for this. You can change that you can get them out of it. You. You can find a way to find. Find a solution and I think that's what this year is going to be all about. It's going to be about, how do you adapt to change to adapt to adversity, and so those those teams that have that veteran presence that you're talking about a quarterback are going to be the teams that accelerate. There's going to be the teams that I think not only adjust to the change on the roster. Due to code. But Potentially, even our coaching staff like, let's not forget to you know what happens if you're in Tampa Bruce Arians obscene? The at risk category has had passed health conditions, ones if something happens to them, now by is calling the plays instead I mean you got Tom Brady out there like he'll. He'll be able to figure it out. You know if you don't have that guy help there, it's a different story, right, and then the do those guys in the locker room or do those guys on the team like have faith in that guy to be able to make those those changes and adapt. So it's a delicate thing and I think this season more. So than ever will test those quarterbacks who played a ton of football love got the ability to adapt to change on the fly in game in particular. And I. think that's where it should be showcased is the teams that. The teams that aren't trying to you know. are trying to break in a new quarterback I. Think are the ones obviously are going to deal to excel, and we see some of the the biggest margin of difference in the wins losses than ever before for that reason. He's former Notre Dame, NFL, quarterback Brady, Quinn, you can catch him and why don't you do this Brady because you're so many places now? Football season's coming working everybody catch you. Yes. Mozilla Suspends "Send" Due to Persistent Malware Abuse

"Someone were to go to send dot fire Fox Dot Com. At the moment they would be greeted by the little screen shot I have at the top of the security news of our show notes, which reads Fox and is temporarily unavailable while we work on product improvements, we appreciate your patience while we make the fire. Fox, Send Experience Better and Leo I think you did just go there did yes, and there it is so back because I really love. Fire Fox sent it so it's my go-to. Yes, it's my become my go-to file. Sharing Service the good news. It'll be back. The. Bad News is why it went away. Just to remind our listeners, we've talked about it before. IT allows files of up to one GIGABYTE if you're not signed in. Or two and a half gigabytes if you are to be locally encrypted in the browser. Optionally Password protected so that only the recipient is able to retrieve and decrypt the sent file. You get retention controls allowing the sender to set the time that is the duration and or a download count after which that content will expire from the Fire Fox send cloud and be removed. Unfortunately. As with anything that is simple, free and effective. Like think e mail. It's also subject to abuse by nefarious forces. The bad guys also love Fire Fox. Send because it lets them generate short-term links based on good-looking trusted domains for sharing arbitrary evil wear to unwitting victims, so thanks to fire Fox said the bad guys don't need to set up their own file sharing server. You know and like try to get a legitimate looking URL domain. They don't have to worry about making sure that you are. ells expire automatically. Mozilla does that for them and links it only work once create an extra challenge for security researchers. Even if the militias url is captured in a log by then it's probably been used so it's not possible to go back and obtain the original because it's been removed already. And, of course, since the IP is one of Mozilla servers. It's not one that anyone wants to just put a blanket block on. know I was GONNA say they wouldn't want to blacklist it but I'm working to be better. over the past few months fire, Fox, send it turns out has been used increasingly to store payloads for all sorts of cybercrime operations from ransomware through financial crime banking trojans. SPYWARE and used to target human rights. Defenders Fin seven revival also known as a so dino cabby. You are sniff. which is also the dream dot? Network and Z. loader are just some of the malware gangs and strains that have been seen hosting payloads using fire Fox, send as a consequence. The cyber security industry has has finally tipped its collective hat to Mozilla for suspending what has become a widely used and unfortunately now only abused service you know Mozilla did didn't just say Oh you know we recognize there's a problem we will be considering some changes in the future. They just shut it down. They said okay. We're GONNA. We're just GONNA. Stop making available until we can. You know upgraded? Cyber security researchers have suggested various changes to strengthen the service. One is to add a report abuse button so that flagging or killing militias links could be made much more quick and easy What Mozilla said in their statement about this, they said before relaunching. We will be adding an abuse reporting mechanism to augment the existing feedback form. And we will require all users wishing to share content using fire Fox send to sign in with a Fire Fox account. So. It's sad that once again we see the Internet's inherent anonymity, being abused and then having to be restricted. It was cool to be able to send up to one GIG with a twenty four hour expiration without needing an account with Mozilla. Even though I have one, but just zoom was forced to limit what they would allow to be done with full anonymity, so to now has Mozilla and as we know, even requiring an account is not a very high bar and my sense is, it's not going to be very effective, but at least it will help a bit, and it will help Mozilla to say hey, you know we've done all we can. We're doing you know we're doing all the we can do.

Magic Johnson makes admission about his Twitter account

"Johnson the great magic Johnson, either has the best or worst account on NBA twitter terrible with almost no inbetween. gator would agree as someone who's name is escaping me. One said magic tweets like someone who thinks they're the only one with television, providing the most lukewarm takes and updates possible to everyone without a TV usually a day, or so after whatever he's tweeting. tweeting about happen, that's pretty good. That's actually pretty pretty spot on why he loved tweeting. And what are essentially ESPN? APP push alerts so much. Is that why he wanted to step down from running the Lakers as an endlessly fascinating question s for the people are really fixated on this. As the writer of this story writes, it turns out. It gets even more interesting because apparently magic isn't even the ones sending his own tweets as he. He revealed to Rob Lowe at a truly bizarre exchange. Why wouldn't rob lowe and Magic Johnson have a conversation about this an appearance on Rob Pelinka's lookalike podcast. I didn't Rob Pelinka look like Rob Lowe Rob Lowe rights or said Dino. Pardon my take their podcast. Those guys are huge fans as you know. And I said Look, you're the best boards podcast GonNa be interviewing magic. He's going to be one of my first guest you. That's actually what Kuhn did for you. John. Yeah yeah, exact, exact, same thing, so yeah I can see it four point nine million followers. He has on twitter I. Don't think follow Magic Johnson, because he's so milk milk toast, so here's the thing. I have learned and I. I agree with this take that a lot of celebrities athletes. They don't want to be on social media. They understand that it can ruin their careers, but it becomes part of deals that they signed with sponsors, and all this other stuff that they need to be promoting their brands on social media, so if you really are worried about yourself, messing up on social media, but you're being forced to buy some contract that you signed to make a bunch of money promoting something then I. Guess that's a good solution.

Harvard, MIT sue to block ICE rule on international students that would prevent many from staying in the US

"New rules from the U. S immigration and Customs Enforcement or ice. They say international students cannot stay in this country if their schools go entirely online in the fall, And I mean this could potentially impact hundreds of thousands of students who are here. That includes Victor Troll. See from Venezuela. He is an incoming master's student at the University of North Texas, and he talked with one of our producers. Let's listen. When I first heard the news. I honestly thought that it was fake news. It doesn't seem fair that we're being asked to leave the country on the technicalities in our immigration status. Because of something that we cannot control. So, Elissa explain what's in this new federal room. So if your school has come out and said, due to the pandemic, we're going to all be virtual in the fall. The federal rules says. You cannot remain in the U. S. To stay. You have to transfer to a school that's offering in person classes. Here's Rachel Banks from NASA Association of International Educators. It really removed the decision making power from higher education institutions. Basically, this guidance has said. Well, if you're going to pursue a fully online model You can't have international students on your campus. So I says the dinos is to minimize the risk of transmission of Koven, 19 by not admitting students into the country who don't need to be here. The State Department issued a statement saying the guidance will help with social distancing on campus. The timing is really significant because colleges have spent all summer figuring out their plans for the fall, and many have already told students what they're going to do, including moving up the school start date to avoid a possible second wave, which doesn't leave a lot of time for schools to rearrange their plans or for students to transfer to another program. I mean, this is all so complicated for students, but also I mean for schools. Isn't this going to be a financial hit? Don't Don't colleges and universities get a lot of money from foreign students? Absolutely. International students tend to be a big moneymaker for college. According to one economic analysis. International students contribute $41 billion to American High red in just a recent academic year. Some schools have already announced that they will be online in the phone. That's including Harvard in the California State University system. As cases have started to rise. Other schools like the University of Southern California have scaled back initial plans to be all in person. Now they're planning a hybrid approach meeting there some face to face instruction in some online, the experts I talked to say they expect more schools to take this hybrid approach. It's actually one way that colleges might be able to help their international students navigate this guidance because students will have at least one class in person. All right,

Families Challenge Suicide in Deaths of Black Men Found Hanging From Trees in South California

"Couple of the troubling cases in southern California I want to mention authorities in southern California city of Palmdale understand the death of a twenty four year old black man found hanging from a tree near city hall they originally described as an apparent suicide and that prompted outrage in the community his name was was Robert fuller and when the emergency personnel arrived they said he appeared to have died by suicide so that was one thing and then there was a another incident that occurred in southern California in December Dino county the in the Victorville area a couple weeks ago a thirty eight year old man was found hanging in a tree near the Victorville city library and they're saying again falsely not suspected in his death either as I just can't say that it should be this is a very weird thing and they are investigating and I think it's a good thing there's less to getting you know many ways to die okay but considering the current racial tension a black man hang himself from a tree definitely doesn't sit well with people right now and I would agree wholeheartedly with their calls for a full investigation I think that that should occur immediately in both those cases maybe they were maybe they were so size but it's weird to have two black men being hung you know paying them into the couple weeks of each other especially giving the what's going on during this time so I'm with the people are calling for the investigation and that should be done it should be transparent that should happen right now

Bourbon, Bad Guys and Cyber Vigilance

"Hello and welcome to the PODCAST. You're weekly does for all things travel. Who Am sure today? I'm your host. My name is Don Meyer. My wife is off doing some much needed research. On some future travel endeavors and travel destinations So today I am your host for the half hour or so that we have you for For this session and boy. I'm I'm so happy to be able to talk with you again and happy to be able to share with you what we have in store for you today. It has been an interesting couple of weeks to say the least with ups and downs and all over the place with the Kovic Nineteen scare and with certain states opening up and closing down own death tolls getting higher getting the infection rates continuing to grow it has been for all intensive and purposes a very Challenging time for all of us and You know looking at the way things are going. It's going to be quite some time before we get back to any semblance of normalcy For whatever that is whether that's you know going back to work In a work environment for those of us who have been working in corporate environments that could be going to an office space in in cubicles and in gatherings and stuff like that You know looking at what's going on. It's going to be quite some time before that in and of itself becomes the norm again For those of you who are unemployed you know. Hopefully things are going to come back to normal pretty soon. We'll be able to open up the doors to Everything that we've done you know whether it's retail or or or Hospitality or whatever. The industry is war. We're we're certainly hopeful that we'll all get through this really quickly and you know to the best of own abilities. Hopefully you know we we fair through this as best we possibly can You know we here at purely podcast have been battling a number of different things trying to figure out work in school and life. And we've been doing travel cancellations and all sorts of different things it's been been quite Quite challenging to say the least and You know our hearts go to all those who've been affected by this you know fortunately here in Northern California. We've been locked down for cash going on the last seven eight weeks now and It has been interesting to say. The least We are going a bit. Stir crazy as I imagine you all are just trying to get through all this with with our sanity intact and with some semblance of normalcy attributed to what we do Long story short of it. Obviously going back to normal. It's going to be a luxury if you will in the foreseeable future we hope that Things will calm down and we'll be able to you know all resume life is is. Is We enjoyed it before? Obviously things are going to be quite a bit different in here. At pure life will keep you abreast of. What's what's been going on. And how things are progressing along from this front but You know if if there are things that you've you've been planning for You know there's there's travel that she'd been looking to do you know take take some time in review what we've been talking about over the last few weeks about the credit cards in the travel rewards programs in the difference in a hotel programs and things of that nature because once things do come back into play. You know doing a little bit of homework and doing a little bit of pre-planning that's GonNa help to really be able to get you ahead of the game if you will and not not be part of the throngs that come back into everything As things slowly start to get back to normal so with that As I said my wife's off doing some much needed research I'm your host for today In keeping with our recent traditions. I am Here enjoying my My little glass of Of loveliness here And I wanted to continue on with the theme that we've had for the last couple of weeks. Which is our drinking the week and for those of you who've been with us for the last couple of weeks as you know we've been doing some mixed drinks Talked about a really good top-shelf Mar Margarita. With the freshest of ingredients try and keep it as low in the sugar and you know the the high-fructose nonsense that that is added to a lot of these drinks but really just keep it nice and fresh and and and really enjoyable next we followed it up with a inexpressible Martini. Twist if you will on the vodka Martinis but really really good twist. That adds a good kick a good zest. Good Dino Buzz if you will to To the Martini also really complements the Vodkas that we have chosen. This week might take it down and a little bit ticket to simpler more. Simplistic Ingredients As you guys have heard over the last couple of weeks My favorite kind of Indulgent if you will is a straight Bourbon Street whiskey I'm really getting into some of the Scotch whiskies and exploring a lot of the American bourbons or some really really great bourbons that are out there. Obviously there's a staples like Jim Beam Jack Daniels and stuff like that which I certainly do enjoy But if you want to enjoy a really Gosh full-bodied Bourbon That is drinkable that Doesn't require you know Like a coke or anything like that to be added to it My go-to which I've got right here with ME IS A. It's a Basil Hayden's Basil Hayden's is a an American Bourbon. It's been around for quite some time. And it is part of the Jim Beam family And it is a Part of their their small batch bourbons produced by the the Beam Suntory Company Sunsari came in and invested into the Jim Beam Distilleries and of created this huge conglomerate of different spirits if you will Basil is one of their premium brands and it is really true to its roots. Its roots go back about two hundred years There was a Hayden family that migrated from From the UK. During the time we're Catholics were being persecuted. They bolted from the UK. Set up shop on the New England coast of America and then in roughly about When was it seventeen? Eighty five or so the Basil Hayden Senior Moved transplanted from his home in Maryland and went into Kentucky and there he started to brew a a batch of Bourbon based on the things that he had on hand and the stuff that he had on hand was some Ryan. Some other things like that too He tried to stay true to the the Bourbon form if you will But really kind of came up with an interesting mash of his own creation which I truly enjoy. It is a an eighty proof or forty percent alcohol if you will Very very light bodied Bourbon. Whiskey very drinkable in my favorite is just a single cube of ice and you can get these What are they called a whiskey balls if you will Whiskey balls brand of ice cube makers if you will make those Globes or the the the the square or the the cubed type of a larger size cubes I like it with a single ball of ice or cube ice if you will And Basil on top of it port and get it a little Chilled by the ICE. And Oh my goodness it is just. It is just absolute heaven for me so there you have it if you are a Bourbon Aficionado in you are into drinking. Bourbons my recommendation for you right now. If you haven't tried one is a Basil Hayden's need If you like at NEAT Or with a single Cuba vice or on the rocks if you will Once it's it's Gotten a little cool in a little bit of water from the ice itself is just so smooth and just so drinkable and really accomplishments just about

"Honeybees says. It's weird virus that if they get it when they're developing it basically means that they don't grow Wings Hill then they probably get kicked out useless. They just die of other problems because that's not. The only thing that comes with. It causes other problems in the bees for like a day but the wings on this cockroach look really similar so it's really likely that it had the same thing but that's sort of what I was talking about with. How things don't fossilized that are the result viruses because usually bug wings. Don't fossilized so you'd have no way of knowing unless you find an amber and you get some soft tissue preserved and then you can see it then you have to know that it looks different from other bug wings. Yeah exactly the right person associate and recognize it. As similar to this abnormality that happens uncertain honeybees but the fact that one hundred million years ago. This bug had the thing that looks almost exactly the same as it does today. You have no idea when it could have started started. Three hundred million years ago. It could've started with a very first flying bug shortly. Afterwards you know this virus popped out of it as a random mutation so it's so hard to tell but viruses like I mentioned before aren't all bad there's a new article that postulates that maybe mammals survived the kpmg boundary better than dinosaurs because of some viral genetic material that we had inserted in our genomes due to a previous infection because part of the way viruses work is they insert their own genetic code into the host and afterwards the host is just replicating that DNA. Which is basically the virus but sometimes if they animal survives and passes on offspring they'll have a little bit of that Virus Code in their DNA and it can make it harder for viruses that are related to it in the future to attack that organism and the bit of virus that seems to have been in these late Mesozoic. Mammals is closely related to some pretty nasty stuff like a bola and if during the K. P. G. Boundary. The animals were already stressed and dealing with the nuclear winter. Basically that was happening and there was also a virus that was spreading around the mammals may have been better prepared to handle it because it didn't affect them as much as maybe it did birds super-speculative though which is why. I didn't use it as a news article because it just seems a little too far out there. Airman at this point. Yeah it's interesting though. It kind of helps to show some of the animals and how they're related because you can see the same virus fragment in a bunch of different animals. And then what they did was they went back in time and they know the common ancestor was in the Mesozoic. So they know that the ancestor had to have been infected way back in the Mesozoic. I realized. That's Kinda circular logic though. Because I'm saying the viruses are good because they protect you from future viruses. The horizontal gene transfer thing is probably a more overall positive thing that you can actually get new genetic code. You wouldn't get otherwise and just so we don't end on a huge downer. We've got an interview with Phil. Tippett coming up next week. Nothing to do with viruses know everything to do with drastic park and star wars because he did the special effects for the star wars movies at least the first three of them that everybody loves and he was super important in getting the CGI in drastic park the original Jurassic Park to look right. So if you're at all interested in Jurassic Park or special effects next week's interview is going to be great and that wraps up this episode of I know Dino thanks for listening. Katie Adamson on how the YMCA is like an Iceburg

"My Name Is Katie. Adamson and I am Vice President of Health Partnerships in policy at the YMCA The USA. I have been at the Y. For fifteen years that I've been in the space for thirty so old I am about prevention and at the Y. We're about community health and so a bit different from the conference. I think I'm a bit of an outlier in terms of that. But that's kind of exciting. So I started my career out working for elected officials and so the first one was Pat Schroeder from Colorado and she stealth helped start the congressional women's caucus and children's caucus and she was one of the first graduates of Harvard law school too. She was a super big innovator in women's rights and I also got to work for a member of parliament and Ireland row when I was yeah when I was there. He brought the whole government down for itchy rights again so it was kind of neat to see the parliament go down because he felt like everyone should get access to HIV care and treatment. Ap Don't mind my asking. When is this like right out of college? He was right out of college. Okay now. They're probably more progressive in the United States. Went back then. They weren't that guy that I worked for a very desmond. He introduced contraception into Ireland around the pope. While that kind of tells you he was a real meek guy I was lucky to work for him and then came back and went back to pat. Schroeder's Office. I had been an intern for her. And I said I still want to work on the hill. Can you help me find a job in so Bernie? Sanders had just been elected so when I worked for him. Nobody who was now. Everybody knows who he is. And Bernie's known a lot more. His super super liberal left issues but he was a huge and continues to be a huge advocate for prevention and that the system is skewed and needs to be right-sized towards bigger investment in prevention. So that really influenced me a lot and for him. I worked on those issues primarily and we introduced legislation to establish national cancer registry in this country so that we you know we have more baseball statistics about guys in the world series than we do about women who got breast cancer and so the idea was if you could really kind of capture when people were diagnosed how they were diagnosed that public health could intervene catch it earlier do better screening referral. Things like that so we were able to pass. That legislation helped him get reelected helped him work with Republicans which he had to do in order to get reelected so I was doing a lot of work at the time for him to increase funding for prevention and so the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. You know we're the only federal agency outside of Washington and we don't have anyone to help us. Educate the hill about what we do. Would you come work for us so took us about me about a year to get that job? But then I gotta go down to the Centers for Disease Control and help them come up and educate members of Congress about what the problems were and how big of an issue diabetes and cancer arthritis and all these issues were for the nation and how we needed to be doing more and building more programs in communities and that was an incredible experience for me. I came back and I work for some law firms as I was A nonprofit lobbyists basically so it was a law firm for profit. But I I worked for twenty nonprofits and I had to get all of them federal money. Wow so it's very hard. That's a huge responsibility was back in the earmark days and those are really good earmarks. I worked for Christopher and Dana. Reeve when they were alive. Superman and Dino's goal was that no one would ever have to make more than one phone call after a family member had become paralyzed because she was in a privileged position. She had all the access to anything. You could need in in terms of getting help for Chris. It took her like twenty six phone calls to get just a few things answered and so we built this entire center to help people living with paralysis. Get ACCESS TO CARE and information. Our Son had an issue so I've actually reached out to the Christopher Dana Reeve's foundation in having left the hospital after six months day with something that turned their lives upside down there just tremendous. Aren't they incredible? They really are and ours was not an interest spinal cord injury issue. It was non interested central nervous system but the people over there are just a pleasure to work with. I'm so glad to hear that because I was a long time ago so I'm so glad there's still doing three. Oh yes I was lucky enough to also work for Queen Noor of Jordan. Tell us more cues one of our clients and she and her husband when he was alive did so much to get rid of landmines in Jordan. And she helped takeover after. Diana died so she took over and ran the landmines survivor network and they'd won the Nobel Peace Prize with a group of others. Trying to get land mines out of the ground but they also started a landmine survivor. Peer Support Network around the world and so when they start this peer support network around the world. They helped landmines fibers. Get jobs and be able to survive as a lot of people few lose a lamb in another country. You're completely ostracized because you're not value to your family anymore. So long story short one of my clients was Ymca. When I was working at the law firm for just six months and I was about ready to get married and have a family and I needed to slow down because it was a really busy work so I came to the YMCA. And I've been there for fifteen years and so when I came to the YMCA. It was a really good time because the why was looking at trying to take the network of twenty seven hundred wise in the country and ten thousand communities we reach and drive the ship in the direction of prevention and control of chronic disease. And we've done this a few times in our history before during World War One and World War Two. We won the Nobel Peace Prize for our work during wartime a lot of people. Don't know that you know that. Yeah we were on the ground helping prisoners of war sadly were giving him some cigarettes and some donuts but back then we didn't have the science and that was part of what we did but we did a lot of social support the why was also on the Japanese internment camps providing health and well being in recreation so really got a lot of history in this country for things we've done and collectively tried to respond to community crisis a needs later when women were going back to work and we had latchkey kid problems. Why became one of the leading provider childcare? So the why was looking at it. It's makeup and saying we have challenge here. We are hello being organization we wake up everyday thing about spirit mind and body for all and we're losing the war here and if we're not part of the solution part of the problem so how do we get everybody moving in the same direction so that was kind of when I got to be hired and so it was Super Fun. Time to start helping our wise be connected to the innovators and so we worked with Folks like the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and we taught wise. How do plan do study? Act Really How to evaluate your work how to change the building so people felt welcome when they came in so they didn't see this gym equipment Or get a tour of the why they saw coffee and people sitting down and talking

"Hello and welcome Dino I'm Garrett and before we get into today's episode just a quick reminder we have our patriae on Sabrina ready to send out some art and if you want to be included make sure you're on our patriots on by the time we hit one hundred sixty patrons and you can sign up going to Patriot. Dot Com slash. I Know Dino. This week is a little unusual because we're dealing with some corona virus issues. Usually we try not to talk too much about news and political stuff and all that things. That aren't dinosaurs. Yeah we like to just talk about dinosaurs. Keep the podcast simple and a nice little escape from reality potentially or just insight into dinosaur reality. Maybe it's better to put it but Sabrina woke up today with one hundred and two degree fever. So we've slowed some things down and we've simplified the show a little bit else. I want mention a couple science based things about corona virus because there's a lot of misinformation out there and I feel like since a few thousand people listen to this. It's probably worth it to share some information so first of all things you shouldn't do if you have corona virus or are afraid of getting corona virus are holding your breath because there's this weird chain going around saying that if you can hold your breath that means you don't have corona virus. This is untrue. The people who supposedly set it have said that they did not ever make that claim. So don't hold your breath if you think you have symptoms of Corona virus. You need to contact a hospital or whoever your medical providers like we did today and they'll let you know ask you a bunch of questions and then maybe test you if you need to be tested or otherwise the probably just tell you to stay home isolated from other people so you don't infect other people in our case we're staying hole. Yep We're in the bay area so there's this mandatory staying home thing happening so we were already home anyway. But that's really a good idea. In general because social distancing as they call it helps prevent the spread of it helps slow down the cases and therefore it is less overwhelming to the system. So yeah definitely try to avoid contact with people if you can couple other things that you definitely shouldn't do our drink. Bleach try to make your own hand sanitizer out of vodka because it doesn't have enough alcohol in it and also drinking water constantly does not protect you those no mechanism to believe that the virus will be washed into your stomach acid by drinking water though. In general it's good to stay hydrated guests. Don't don't Dehydrate Yourself. That that's definitely not going to help either. I should also say that if you have corona virus and you're thinking I need to go public putting on a T. Rex inflatable costume is not proper personal protective equipment as the person who did it in Spain this week found yes and it also won't really protect you against getting the corona virus other than the fact that it would help you not touch your face because it's impossible to touch your face while you're zipped up in that thing unless you could sorta inhale your arm through the suit in a weird way. That clip though is pretty enjoyable. Police in the area posted the video of the person in this t rex. Stupid and they wrote during state of alarm walkie pets allowed if a company by one person always short walk so they can relieve themselves. Having a tyrannosaurus. Rex Nut covered. Hashed heck stay at home and they edited the clip or somebody edited the clip to include the theme song from Jurassic Park Entertaining. But not effective. I think I I do wonder it might help a little bit. Basically from preventing you touching your face but what happens. Is it just draws air through this fan like a bounce house you know? She's constantly pumping in air. So if there's any virus near that is going to get sucked in and blown into your confined space with you saw. Yeah it doesn't help that's rate. We are obvious in experts on it. So I'm just going to defer to the CDC on their recommendations basically the number one thing to do is to wash your hands often count to twenty while you're doing scrub under your nails. All around your hands elect good stuff and if you don't have soap alcohol sanitizer with at least sixty percent. Alcohol is what they recommend. And then if you can avoid touching your eyes nose and mouth which is virtually impossible. Everybody does it all the time without thinking about it. Which is why washing your hands so helpful because then there's nothing on your hands to infect.

We're hoping is that people want to see the story told and that they wouldn't mind kicking in a bit of money they have the ability and if and if nothing else sheriff share the website talking up. Let's if we could get people to want to do that if they can't financially contribute. That would be awesome just because the more word of mouth through social media so to speak. I really think that it can help people who may be able to to to kick in. And then that you've got a cast and crew they're getting paid and a solidly produced short and is going to be able to really scare you because that's what this thing is going to okay. Once again. That information will be in the show notes. So if you're interested in helping this project go to the show notes. Look for the link. And don't talk.

"Dino store this week in our two hundred and sixty fifth episode we have a bunch of news including a new dinosaur from China and also some dinosaur lice though were found in amber. It's Kinda gross other news from around dinosaur media and we have an interview with Al Murray from the Australian Museum in Sydney and of course we have a nice day and this week it's Altair Rinus but before we get into all that we like to thank some of our patrons and this week. We'd like to thank Chris. Nicholas Trent Carbajal Stefan Taylor stegower. Sophie Humi Pala Campus Jackson Crawford. Saurian brandy my you. Dino Bo Mellow stugotzs worker source and Ceylan and workers and Caylin boast his joint yet. Thank you so much everybody for all your support and can't believe we're getting to at the end of another year and we really appreciate it all that you've done and our community has grown and it's been really fun chatting with people in the discord so if you you want to join our growing community then check out our page Patriot dot com slash. I Know Dino and with that we're going to jump into our news. Our first story is the new dinosaur. The paper was written by Ning Li and others and published in historical biology. And as a new Basal Neil or decision dinosaur so neil oranization dinosaurs especially the non derived ones are sort of goose sized Erba. Wars is what I'm GONNA call them because they're small with urban wars and yeah there may be goose is maybe even a little smaller some time. They tend to look something like erected romeas. There's a lot other dinosaurs that people don't really hear about erected Dromey us isn't really that Basil but lake. These dinosaurs are so unpopular. Nobody ever talks about them so the best I can do is say that it was like a victory or goose sized as as there are a couple other early neo or an Athenian dinosaurs. We've talked about like Assu to source from South Africa in lieu and there's also Kalinda drome yes from Russia but those aren't really depicted very often and then dinosaurs likely the element Zora from Australia which are also organizations are at least fifty million years more recent. So they're not really a relief neo corner. Titians insist that pretty derived the new dinosaurs named Sancho Soroush modell she insists and Sancha Soroush comes from San Shah Which means Three Gorges and it was found in the area that is now under water from the Three Gorges Dam not going to be finding anything else there anytime soon Komo now she insists is after Modi she which is the first tributary of the Yangtze River near which the hall type was recovered according to the article so the both both parts of it are named after the river and the damn? So it's kind of Nice Census Sula more interesting of a name name. I'm not sure why they named it. After the damn other than that it was found nearby. I'm kind of wondering if it's supposed to be like a tongue in cheek. We can't find anything else here. Because now it's underwater sorta thing just like the name it could be or they're really excited about the damn being there salute named it that way. I don't know it didn't really specify it was a pretty good find. They found fifty five bones of Sanchez. Sorus and of those about half our vertebrae so you're not interested in vertebrates. More like a a couple dozen bones but the do have most of both legs.

"Night story is is cold. The Dino Cave of Alexis didn't like bath time in fact he really awfully completely didn't like off time. Whenever Mommy or daddy looked o'clock in the evening and saw it was time Vase Baath Alexis had always managed to vanish. Sometimes it be hiding under the kitchen sink or pretending to be a statue behind the tool lamp in the living room. Once he even called up in Duffy. The dog's basket and pretended he had four legs and a tail but wherever he hid and whatever he did especially if he was pretending to be a dog. Mummy and daddy would find him and carry him upstairs. No questions asked. Alexis just didn't like getting clean. He'd spent all day getting nice and and messy and dirty and it hadn't been easy he had to have climbed through hedges and run through puddles and roll down the bank that led to the Stream. He had to put in a lot of effort and now a city bath was going to take it all away and mommy and Daddy Daddy s especially always put far too many bubbles in the bath so many that he often couldn't even find his favorite dinosaurs dinosaurs. They'd be lost under a sea of foam and be extinct all over again until both time was over and the water drained away way. Now Tonight Daddy was in charge of putting the bubbles in and again he put in. Far Too many dad complains Alexis. They've many reached the ceiling. While that's good cool Daddy. From the whole y'all get cleaner all the the quicker. Alexis wasn't happy at all. He was surrounded by walls of bubbles and it lost his favorite toy away. Dinosaur I try sever top-scored Lucy. She might he thought. Be Down the other end of the bath by the taps so with with both hands. He began to tunnel his way forward through the bubbles. He seemed to becoming further than he should. Further the taps at the end of the bath should be. He turned around to face the way he came and saw that the tunnel hit mate had closed in behind him. He was surrounded by bubbles on either side. He looked above him and instead of the bathroom ceiling just saw a roof of of bubbles. He was a bubble cave all by himself. He called out. Lucy where are you. But his voice was all echoey. Suddenly the wall of bubbles to his right began to pop and collapse ups but instead of seeing the side of the bath it was a corridor. Long white corridor with bubbles for walls moves and a white marble floor. Alexis might not be a very clean person but he was certainly a brave leave person and so he stood up and walked down the corridor dressing himself. In one of the many flags he saw lining each of the bubble double wolves he could hit noises and laughter from the very end of the corridor. And so with caution and curiosity. He followed the sound soon. He came out in a huge hole as large as a circus tent around him. MM platforms rose up on levels and down. Djing around on each platform were dinosaurs. They were playing with a huge food beach bowl hitting it across the hold each other and occasionally letting it drop into their huge steaming off in the center of the room trying not to be scared and before any of the dinosaurs noticed him. Alexis tried to make himself small and invisible just like he did when when. Mommy and daddy will hunting for him. He watched the dinosaurs and then it occurred to him. They were his toy dinosaur. But now enormous and perfectly alive there was been auto velociraptor and Ellen the Brontosaurus and Martin the allosaurus and down in the Water Tim the PTERODACTYL and Lucy. The try CERATOPS. Well now how. He couldn't be scared he knew the mall. Having fun called Alexis to the room all the dinosaurs was stopped playing and looked around. It's Alexis and Alexis they all murmured ellen the Bronco source us who was the largest smiled widely stood up and shook off some bubbles. What are you doing here of all places laces she asked. Is it time for your bath too. Of course it's time for my bath said Alexis. That's how I found you. Daddy put in too many bubbles though such thing as too many bubbles interrupted Lucy and I got lost in them continued continued. Alexis and there was a tunnel under corridor. And now I'm here. Yeah Oh said Martin learn you might as well Oh jumping. Alexis looked at the huge foam off. That took up most of the holes floor. It wasn't like his bath at home. This look more like an adventure. Park the waterspouts stand under and look up. Alexis or that a slide cold old all the way around the outside of the whole ad splashed out into the side of the bath. He didn't need asking twice. He jumped in and for the first time had more fun than he could ever have dreamt off at bath. Time Alexis was screaming with excitement. Having just plummeted off the big slide. When Tim the PTERODACTYL put his wing finger to his beak for quiet. OL- listened. It's my dad whispered Alexis. Well you'd better. Ron Said Martin. All this place. Ace would be your secret anymore but time. So king laughed. Lucy aren't you supposed to be good point. Lucy said Alexis and dashed back down the tunnel before him was a wool of bubbles but he closed his eyes. He's an dive through them. headfirst splash. Oh goodness me said Daddy Authority your run off. Come on time to jump out. Alexis got out of the bath and let daddy wrap a big warm towel around him. Dad said Alexis. Could I have another bath in the morning. Daddy let the plug out the bath and the water began to Russia. Wash Away with a Gurgle and the globe. A bath in the morning said Daddy. Why Alexis thought quickly. Well I want to be nice and clean before I meet everyone again. He said who you're meeting in the morning Daddy. The the last of the water drained away out of the bath leaving just a few bubbles at the bottom as daddy fetched Alexis nightclothes clothes. Alexis look down into the bath and so all his dinosaur toys but Nado Ellen Martin Lucy and Tim all lying there as little plastic toys. I'm just meeting my friends. Daddy said Alexis. Well that sounds like a very good idea. Said Daddy leading. Alexis out of the bathroom towards his safe warm cozy bed sweet night. Remember you can see Anderson. "I think that we're doing that and i think that we're a team on the rise in and the way why i'm building is i wanna i wanna step once we start winning i never want to go back for losing your and i think that we're doing it the right way we're doing it slow for having some successes we know we had the clemson when we had the virginia tech whether you're four we've had some setbacks obviously the month of november hasn't been the best month around here at syracuse new york but i think we're on the right track and i think we're right around the corner from doing some things that uh i've done previously at other stops and you've had had success and and we've covered it here on espn radio in in what is that success i mean what what are you pitching the kids that if a kid right now says you know what i can go to fsu or a may i can go to clemson and indurain on in him in syracuse what how're you guys differ what it what is coach dino babar's bringing to a young student athlete that he may not get somewhere else would make syracuse unique well first of all our family atmosphere up here will one big family were a law familiaux hana were we we have a lot of different things that are going on here but we just do the different way we want to lead the lead the league and picnics in barbecues along with at we want young and to get their degrees and wanted to grow up to be better fathers better something better husband's than us and you know we want to win some football game when we start winning our football games and we start competing from championships i think that we're going to be one of the teams that are going to be reckoned with were the only power five school with the dell and i think there's a lot of young men that want to go on to play in the national football league and is not a a of there is a lot of nice does uh it up in that league and i think that you can get your practice right here in syracuse.
