"In April. 2016, the wife of a rural Georgia police officer, is found inside a locked closet. Two shots had been fired from her husband's service weapon, her head resting on a pillow victim of an apparent gunshot. But what really happened inside that closet and in the hours and minutes before the shots rang out, people do things that don't make sense and under stress under dynamic situations, they're crumbling marriage was no secret high school sweethearts were ready to call it quits. It was Jessica Boynton at the point of No return. Nothing in my mind said that she was suicidal in my mind. I knew she was upset and dealing with maybe some minute depression. But who wouldn't when your husband's cheating on you That would hurt anybody. What about the gunshots? Heard hours before her husband reported hearing shots. I just lay down on the first shot went off. My fiance was like someone gunshot. What about the physical evidence? Her hands were pristine and clean. There was no gunshot residue we found on her. Authorities may say that the investigation was complete throw its lost it and it's leads do this finding I disagree with that, and many others do as well. I really believe that we will get justice. Way happen. The officer's wife, a new podcast from vault studios, listen and follow this podcast for free on the I Heart radio app number one for music, radio and podcasts, all in one Corona virus pandemic has dramatically changed what it means to attend and apply to college. Here is this morning's Jennifer Cash Enka. Is this college worth the cost? That's the question, and many students and their parents are asking as tuition continues to soar During the uncertainty of a pandemic. CNBC has released its annual 50 colleges that pay off the most ranking to help you decide CNBC's careers. Reporter Abigail Hess is here with details. Abigail. What did CNBC look at? Yeah, for this drinking. What we do is we look at a ratio of the average net costs at a school for a student from a middle class background that's from people families that make between $40,001.75,000 dollars. Andi compare that to the average salaries of graduate 10 year after graduation to see how much they invest going in and how much it pays off in the long run. All right. Let's talk about private schools. First number one Stanford. Why do they do so well? Well, I mean, the first reason off the bat is just a Stanford is pretty well known riding very generous financial aid from a student from that middle class background you might think of Stanford is having this really high sticker price. If you come from a middle class background will likely Hood. If you get to Stanford, you're probably gonna get pretty generous financial aid and then on top of that heart Sorry if Stanford graduates from really smart, you know, graduate and they go on leave, really hiring career. I thought it was surprising also that some other Ivy League schools on their Harvard and Princeton and dark but they all sound so expensive. What are they doing right? What they do, right? You know, I mean, I I know means want to say that, you know, all students get this at Harvard. But if you are coming from those middle class background schools like Harvard and Princeton will throw a lot of money your way to make sure they tend their school instead of their other Ivy League competitors. And what that could mean at the end of the day's for middle class students from the school coming more affordable and you might have expected Anybody And that's private list of top 10 surprising to you. Um, that's a great question. Ahh. Yeah, I mean, one thing that I physically one of the schools that I always look at it. Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, where I grew up, they often are on the list for having some of the highest But they also focus on engineering and stem focused things. And just they graduate students with such high salaries down the line that even though they're average annual net costs are a little bit fired from this world like Harvard and Stanford. They still powerful really well for students. We're speaking with CNBC careers reporter Abigail Hess about 50 colleges that pay off the most Abigail who's atop the public school list. The top public school this year is the University of Washington Fossil. It is a public school in Washington state. They do a great job. One of the things that I love most about you. W B is 96% of their first year students of their freshman students. Come from within Washington state and 40% of their first year, students would be the first in their families turn a four year degree the first generation college students, I think they're doing great work now, just in general terms, A lot of families are upset about the at home, learning that they may be forced to do because of the pandemic. Some are asking for cost back from colleges. They want their fees back in that kind of thing. Is this going to force changes in the way these schools charge tuition and charge students going forward? That's a terrific question. You know, I think you're absolutely right. There's mounting pressure. We've seen lawsuits across the country amongst insure asking for Corona virus related refund from last semester I did from housing. Or tuition and fees for events. They said they couldn't attend. One survey found that 93% of US caution. State tuition should be lowered of all kinds are online. That's this morning's Jennifer Kharchenko with reporter Abigail Hess at CNBC. "Julie with schoolchildren who are living with their parents on the on the streets yeah and they made us the dive deep to see what the real problem and yes it is true that there is a lot of single men and single women right now are able to get a few jobs and and better their income but we have a bigger problem with the families who can't find no place to live and this is a very very big problem the prices of the houses is gone and then in the neighborhood we don't have enough homes to let the family live and then this is a big big problem the poverty well let me give you two numbers that we ought to remember here as we are fortunate enough to be getting up and going to work going to our jobs counting on income going Christmas shopping and the rest Detroit still Detroit city of Detroit thirty three percent live below the poverty line thirty three percent and here's the one the that really gets me forty eight percent of our children forty eight percent of our children in Detroit are under the poverty line what does that mean well think about it the numbers for adults can be higher because you've got single of it older people who have moved back into the city of Detroit and have bought some of the expensive real estate and they help take the numbers back up but when it comes to the actual families living in Detroit and and and even the real estate developers will tell you that's the big challenge is to get families to move into the choice of the families that are in Detroit are generally poor families and that means forty eight percent of our kids live in poverty that's crazy in two thousand and nineteen that nearly half of our children in this city live in poverty we take care of them with the nine charities that we operate here for sated choice starting with the daycare center that we partner with cots called bright beginnings that literally takes care of children were five days old and up whose parents might be in transition housing who are coming through rehab who don't have worked on the place to live is a place for their children to be taken care of moving on into the the Tricity choice family Medical Center which is in Highland Park that takes care of homeless children and their mothers again kids forty eight percent of poverty your mother's same type of thing help take care of them moving on to the safe place center at liberty park are fabulous recreation center that we operate there which is a learning center as much as it is a place center a seven thousand square foot digital learning center to go with the football field the Matthew Stafford built in the baseball field the Tigers build on the basketball court the time gore's in the pistons help put in all the way up to the working homes working families project which we have will actually gonna give away three homes here today in the course of the day the three very needy families and that's what we do we take homes we refurbish them we provide them to needy families through our veterans program for veterans who are homeless come back one of biggest problems in America homeless veterans and all the way up to senior citizens so what you will help us with today and if you are inclined to become the first people to make donations at six o'clock in the morning we would love to be able to read your name off and tell people Hey how about this at six o'clock in the morning someone name Judith Doyle Martin called in with a five hundred dollar donation now Hey being up at this hour is an accomplishment be listening to the radio at this hour is an accomplishment and see to say I want to help the needy let me make a donation here of five hundred dollars it's pretty incredible and we're gonna of course here people doing that all day long net dots from south gate just made a nice donation keep singleton from love the volume in isolation why are they doing this at six o'clock in the morning because the choice to town of tradition and this has become a tradition and people know here that this is what we do we help out people enjoyed thankfully now in our fifth year so going to give you a great show would you already know what this is about you can come out to the to the mall at any moment being come out now if you like and walk around the mall the one of the mall walkers were open and is gonna be a lot of activity here with music dump it's a really is going to be alongside us here with athletes in with stars and actors and all the rest of trying to make it fun we'll have a lot of laughs but in the end we are here to raise money to help the needy and the most important thing I can tell you about how we raise money here for all of say the choice charities one hundred percent one hundred percent of the money you give us goes to the needy we don't pay people salaries with it would I take care of all the administrative costs we don't buy pencils we don't buy Xerox paper and say well you know that's Jane part Polly of the charity and that Paul all Stanley gets taken care of separately and Mike so to Rico if you give us a and dollar Matthew that dollar Stafford goes and helps and I am the just needy scratching that you're trying the surface to help you today and the phone and number at this eight five hour five in the nine morning five that's pretty five good that I can even remember all.
