A highlight from 45 - Week 4 Recap

"Welcome to the Ultraflex Football Podcast, where we have fun with our friends while we talk about football and anything else we want to talk about, hahaha. I am your host, Anthony Sutton. And with me, as always, is Rob Green. Hope you're all awake. If you aren't, you are now. And Ryan Wheeler! That was very robotic and beautiful, Anthony. Thank you. You're welcome. You should start everyone like that. I liked it. And you sound kind of like a nerd, and we're kind of nerdy sometimes, so. I like it. You were shy. You're kind of nerdy. Where's your hat today? I don't know, but it's a mess. I got a new setup here. It's just a mess over here. Don't even bother. It's just a mess. We got a new podcast art, a new, what do they call that? Cover art? Logo? And we're all, well, you guys are supposed to be the Buffaloes, and you're both wearing backwards hats. I made sure to put that in there. So way to let down, Tony. All I got to do is be shirtless and have one nipple, because that's what it shows on the, I don't know if you guys noticed that, there's only one nipple on the Titan, dude. He lost it in battle, you know? I'd rather have a backwards hat than one nipple hanging out the entire show. Yeah, me too. I mean, I'm not even worried about the nipple, it's just like uncomfortable having one nipple hanging out. It probably would, yeah, you know when you're like outside. So he's not missing a nipple, there's just one showing. No, he's definitely missing a nipple. Oh, he is missing, okay. It's not just one showing, he's missing the other one. Oh, yeah. All right, that's enough nipple talk for us. Boobies. So to get away from the nipples, we got, this week we have the Goo Goo Dolls. Album is Dizzy Up The Girl. I didn't catch what year that was. Did you guys know what happened to see that? I think it was 1998. 1998. 1998. So we're going to do what we do. We're going to get our song titles into the episode. And if we don't, then we have to do a whole album by ourselves next week and screw the other two over. So my song titles are Dizzy, Slide, Broadway, and January Friend. Rob, what you got? Well, at least you got one that was more than one word. I got Black Balloon, Bulletproof, Am I Gone, and All Eyes on Me. I've got Full Forever, Broadway, Iris, Extra Pale, and Hate This Place. So it'll be fun to get all these in. And then while we're doing that, we're going to talk about some football. So let's go to football talk. In case you noticed or picked up, Tony also has Broadway. We both have Broadway because on the album it says acoustic number three. So he's got the acoustic version. So you have to say Broadway in a very acoustic way, whatever that means. Got it. Football segment, go. I don't know. I'm struggling. I got a new computer. So if you're watching this, I like Extra Pale and I do not enjoy it. But anywho, let's go into week four games last week. Biggest game of the week in our opinion and probably in the league was the Bills and the Dolphins. And we'll talk about the Titans and the Bengals after that. So Rob was at the game. Let him start it off. What'd you see? What'd you like? How was the atmosphere? Go. Is a black balloon like a white flag because that's what the Dolphins were waving come the third quarter. Total domination by the Bills. The crowd was electric. The team was pumped up. It was great. Great atmosphere. Was Hamlin announced pregame? Was he like the last one announced or whatever? No. Apparently my brother -in -law told me this. They are not announcing individual players for the Bills this year at home games. So they just all come out as a team. They don't announce anybody. So no, they did not announce it. I feel like a missed opportunity. I don't know if it's like a unity, like a team unity thing or what, but either way the crowd was loud. Loudest I've heard it. Any, you know, I'll ask Ryan in a second, but any key takeaways from your seats up there? Just a continuing domination of the O -line and D -line or Allen and Diggs or all of the above? All of the above for that game. There really wasn't a whole lot to complain about. Obviously the Trey White injury sucked. Seeing him throw his helmet in frustration after getting hurt was hard to see, especially after just getting back off the ACL, but on the positive end, yeah, I think the Bills dominated both ends, offense and defensive lines, which is nice to see because the last couple of years, they've never really seemed to get both going at the same time. Ryan, any takeaways from the Bills and Dolphins before we jump over to the Titans? The most memorable part of that game for me was the gut -wrenching feeling that you got when Trey White went down and you see him just pounding the ground. He throws his helmet. That whole scene was like tragic, honestly, like the guy just got back and he was playing good again. And then... What did they show on TV? Did they show like all the players lined up? Yes, they showed everyone started going over. That's how we knew it was like something that's not good. Yeah. Yeah, that was awful. I think the Bills did a great job of getting Tua off his first read. And I think that too was kind of a read it and rip it like right away, first read kind of quarterback. And that's the scheme that he's in because they want him to get the ball out of his hands fast. The Bills did a great job of minimizing that. I think he went... He figured it out after a couple of drives, right? I mean, it started out looking like it was going to be a high scoring affair. I mean, it still was 48 to 20, but I wasn't sure if either defense could stop the other team for a while. Yeah. What I get from... I think they dropped them down to like only hitting us first read 50 something percent of the time. But what I get from that game is I wonder if other defenses are going to adopt what the Bills did. I think they used their motions instead of the Dolphins being able to use that quick motion and catching the defenses off guard. I think the Bills were kind of letting that quick motion show them where the play was going. And that's why they were able to cut off the first read most of the time, or half the time. So I think that the Bills might have just put a blueprint out there for other teams to follow. And if that's true, I can't wait to see what happens moving forward with the Dolphins, see if they're going to be a little less explosive. Well, they'll probably still be explosive, but maybe won't put up as many points. I was going to say, you think the Giants can replicate that? A lot of the old Bills coaches and management there, but I don't know. I hope not. I picked the Dolphins in my survivor pool this week because I feel like they're in a bounce back. And I feel like they also, I mean, I think McDaniel even admitted after the game. I think they abandoned the run too soon. But I guess when you get down, what was it, 31 -14 pretty quickly, then you probably almost feel like you have to. So I think my biggest takeaway, and Rob kind of hit it on it, but it was just Allen. I think that was his best game maybe ever. But definitely since the injury last year. So if he can continue to play like that, the Bills will be hard to beat. Do you guys see the stat that Allen has now, five AFC Player of the Weeks against the Dolphins? Yeah, five out of his 11 career are against the Dolphins. Call his daddy.

It is my birthday tomorrow. So sometimes if my birthday coincides with rewatchables, which I think has only happened one other time, but we like to do a big movie. So that's where we're doing one of my favorite movies the last 40 years. Stay tuned. Coming up next, we had an action packed loaded week three. We're gonna talk Taylor Swift, Travis Kelsey. We're gonna talk about Miami putting up 70. Sal's team losing. We're gonna introduce a new character, parent corner. Sal sent his kid to college. Oh man, this is almost two hours. Let's get to it. First pro jam. Let's get to it. All right, taping this a little after 8 .30, Sunday night Pacific time. The hardest word come in and show business is here. Cousin Sal just watched Pittsburgh Vegas, a bizarre game, but we're not starting there. We're starting with your team. You're stupid cowboys. You compliment me and now that I see what you did here. Okay, all right. Your stupid team that I thought I could throw into a little 11 and a half Arizona, like throw a bit. All they had to do was run by two and a half. I had a FanDuel boost. I had real life money. I had a million dollar pick and it's like, of course they'll beat the Cardinals by two and a half. Rahim thought the Cardinals were tanking. No, no, that's not what happened. And now you're containing cowboys. They couldn't even make it to my birthday before they fell apart. They couldn't even make it to the end of September. Was that the goal? I guess had they known your birthday was a Monday. Yeah, they might've stuck around. I know, I know. I don't know what to tell you. It sucked. I had it tied to everything too. I had an Oregon this and the Chiefs this and the 49ers and the Cowboys and everything. And I didn't even care that they had three, essentially three offensive linemen out or that Trayvon Diggs got hurt. Not that I didn't care, but I didn't think it would affect this game. And then they just got, they went out there and got their asses kicked. 13 penalties and didn't force any turnovers and couldn't do shit in the red zone. And of course it's a double digit loss, jerks. I kept, I had in the back of my head Rahim's theory that the Cardinals were tanking and that they were only playing one, a good first half. And then they would throw away the second half because their real goal is Caleb Williams. So at halftime, I'm like, I'm not going to panic yet. Maybe the Rahim's theory, no. The Rahim's theory was not true. The Cardinals actually played really well. And your team, I will say, look, this happens sometimes. Usually it doesn't happen in week three. It happens later in the year. But the team that is getting smoke blowing up their butts, they have this easy game and say, oh yeah, we're going to Arizona. It's going to be half Dallas fans. This will be a layup for us. So we've seen this scenario, just not this early in the season. What worried me though, from a Dallas standpoint, forget about the offensive line and the blocking stuff. Cause you'll get those guys back. But you do seem to have like third and seven, third and eight if Lamb is covered, where do you go issued? Like, you know, not everyone has the Kelsey type, but you don't have the Devontae Adams. You don't have really any of those guys. You don't have that big physical tight end in the middle. You don't have the awesome, you know, James White type third down running back who's going to get open. And you could really feel it in the red zone. They were one for five in the red zone today. Yeah. I mean, you know, what's his name? The tight end who went to Houston, I already forgot his name from Dallas last year, was our second lead. Schultz was our second leading receiver last year. So yeah, there is something to be said about that. And I do want to put it in proper perspective. If the Eagles lose to Tampa Bay, which is a possibility tomorrow, the week is a wash in the NFC East, right? That means everyone will have lost. So I don't want to get too crazy, but it did expose, you're right, everything I always worry about. Can Dak come up with a big play down the stretch? You know, are these injuries too much to overcome? And Mike McCarthy in that play calling, it really seemed like we were up 12 points trying to bleed the clock, not down 12 points. And it's like, oh, maybe he's just afraid to throw it. And then when we saw, he threw into three defenders and you cleverly quipped, how did they know which of the three were to intercept it? Yeah, that was kind of wrenching. That was an angry text to yours. I was just angrily texting. Like it was your fault that I was losing all my teases. Yeah, he just threw into three guys on one of the biggest plays of the game. Complete panic throw.

"I always talk about their non Patreon people as freeloaders and you guys are not any way you want to listen to the show or support the show. I'm happy. Thomas says I'm a massive fan of your content, both strong opinion sports, and Zach schandler talking. And I'm a huge Giants fan from Australia, down under. I often wake up at 3 a.m. to watch games live and it's been a massive effort to do so these last two years due to how bad we've become as a team and organization. Yeah, 3 a.m. to watch a giants game, wow. My question for you is do you think Daniel Jones has a legitimate NFL future? I like how we brought in Tyrod Taylor this off season because I feel like he will really push DJ during camp and Tyrod has proven he can be a serviceable quarterback in this league if DJ doesn't work out. I personally think Daniel Jones can improve and be a good quarterback if given better protection and if our weapons around him can stay healthy. Example, Sterling shepherds take on Berkeley, Kenny gallaudet, Carrie Tony. I truly believe that if we moved off of Daniel Jones, he could go somewhere and have a Ryan Tannehill like resurgence. What are your thoughts on this statement? And keep up the great content mate, I appreciate you. Okay, here's what I'll say. Dana Jones has a ton of potential. I think you're right about that. I see a possibility where Daniel Jones becomes the franchise guy that we think he could become in New York. He's a great athlete, he's a smart guy. I'm very excited to see what Brian dabel can do with him. Brian Davis, a head coach now in New York. He was the offensive coordinator in Buffalo with Josh Allen. He developed Josh Allen into an elite quarterback. And Josh Allen worked his butt off did a lot of stuff with Jordan Palmer. It's not all the credit going to the coach, but the coach did something right there. And I could see a world where he does something right with Daniel Jones and Daniel Jones explodes and is really, really good. Because the ability is there. He fumbles too much, but he can run. I'd love to see him extend plays a little more, do some different stuff. I think with a good coach, helping him out and giving him advice and working with him..

"I'm trying to do both. Some of the things that he wants to retire in Buffalo, there we go, got it right that time. He wants to retire in Buffalo. I think that's very possible. It's very likely. And in my book, he gets points for not playing that silly ego driven game of trying to be the highest paid in your field. I don't mean to sound idiotic. People always get mad when I talk about other people's money. But really, what is the difference in your quality of life making $24 million a year? Or $28 million a year or 29 million a year. Hey, you do that for four years. You're set for life either way. And if you invest it right, the difference doesn't even matter. So I don't know, man. I think Stefan Diggs has done a very wise thing here. Sign a big contract. It's going to be several life when he's done, gets to have a lot of fun in the meantime. And being in a good environment, having a happy life. That's so valuable. And people just don't talk about that enough. We talk about the money. We don't talk about how you're making that money. He's going to have a really good next 6 years of his life. He's 28 years old. In 2020, by the way, stuff on Diggs led the NFL in yards and catches. He was near the top again last year. And buffalo, frankly, should probably be, if not a Super Bowl favorite, maybe the Super Bowl favorite. For 2022. And man, I'm telling you. I'm pumped for the Buffalo Bills. I'm pumped for stuff on digs. A lot of reasonable money being thrown around. I don't always praise big contracts. I mean, he's like, oh, that's a lot of money. Wow, good for the player. It's a rare moment where they both win. The team and the player, they lock down a great player for a long time. He locks down a very sensible reasonable contract. He'll be set for life. I love love, love. This stuff on Diggs contract, and let's see if they can get a Super Bowl out of it. That would be really, really cool. Okay. After the stuff on Diggs contract, everyone's attention shifted to the few remaining receivers who are next to get big contracts. Guys like AJ Brown in Tennessee, Terry mclaurin in Washington, DK Metcalf in Seattle, and then the big one,.

"And they need a left tackle. They could get both of them in the first round. I think that, hey, you build a run Jameis, get a left hack, we'll get a big receiver. You're not a bad football team. Like, there's a lot going for the New Orleans Saints if they just invest in the team they already have. Now they could use one of those picks on a get a left tackle or they get a receiver and then they use the second pick on like Matt corral or Kenny Pickett or something like that. I don't know. Can he pick it instead of Jameis? Is that really an upgraded? That's a weird one to me. I wouldn't feel pretty weird about that. I mean, maybe Jameis will make it's very possible, can you pick it's a better decision maker than Jameis, but Jameis is way more talented. It's a weird tradeoff there. There'd be an interesting debate to have. I don't want to have it today. If New Orleans really likes one guy, maybe they love Malik Willis, they could package their two first round picks together and move up in the draft to go get leak Willis or go get Matt corral. So I'm excited, man. The NFL Draft at the end of the month is going to be it's gonna be really exciting. I can not wait. I'm still looking forward to it. And that trade made it even more interesting. Let me check my text real quick. Okay. Okay, my plans moved back an hour. So I was worried, meeting up with a friend, and she said, hey, can we move our plans back? Another hour and I'm like, good, because I'm in the middle of recording. I literally don't want to leave right now anyway. Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs got a big new payday. Here are the details of his new contract. And by the way, Stefan dig still has two years left on his current contract. So what the Buffalo Bills did is added four more years on top of the two we already had on his contract to make it a four year $96 million contract extension. Again, he's already got a two year $25 million deal. So he's going to be making a lot of money in the next 6 years of his life..

"I mean you can force a fumble but not recover it for instance and thus it's not a takeaway right so if things even out over time you still have to have the good core defensive principles but i think you make a really good point gary that if you're a defense that's going through a transition like the cowboys are i mean. They had a historically bad defense last year. They've been a lot better so far under dan. Quinn but it always takes a while to get used to a new scheme and get really comfortable in ed's oftentimes taking the ball away can kind of bolster you as you go through that transition period it do. They have multiple takeaways in all six of their games so far that season they had. They had a total of six games with multiple takeaways last year. And they didn't get their first one until november first. So it's just it's a new day here for the cowboys. Dak prescott is back And yeah this is. You gotta be feeling good if you're down in dallas right now yeah one of the things that came up when we reported the t. J. watt story last year that was kind of cheesy but in an endearing way and that has always stuck with me is that mike tomlin likes to refer to the ball as his team's hopes and dreams and it basically reinforces to your players. How important the ball is so if you are carrying the ball you have the hopes and dreams in your your arm and your grasp. You can't let them go and if you're on defense you're trying very hard to get the hopes and dreams back and certainly that situation with at the end of the game. I mean the steelers had their backs up against the wall. They're worried the season is slipping away on their way to a tie with the seahawks without russell wilson and tj. Watts disabled to snatch the hopes and dreams back for his team. So i think it's pretty apt analogy..

"And that is such a remarkable stat. Gary because even now the single season record for interceptions has held up since nineteen fifty two when dick night train lane. Had fourteen. Interceptions xavien howard. We saw had an excellent year last year with ten before that no one had even had ten in a season since two thousand seven so that really highlights just how exceptional what digs has been able to do this season as far as taking away. The football boy i that fourteen interceptions for a night train lane. I thought that was one that would never be broken. That's just one of those. That's in across eras record where it's almost like you. You almost wouldn't asterisk on it because it's like well game was played different back then. So of course. No one's ever gonna threaten this record but we will see with digs one thing. That is really interesting and we're just talking about counting stats at this point which are fun. One thing that's really interesting with digs is like you saw the patriots. After the pick six on sunday to give the cowboys the lead in the final minutes there they went right back after digs because they know how aggressive he is and they know that maybe he susceptible to a double move coming off that pick six so i mean he might have enough opportunities to end up making a run at fourteen. When it's all said and done your those still he'd have to get what seven more and eleven games here which is still an incredible rate. Yeah i mean he's been obviously averaging at least one per game so far. But i think you make a really good point gary in that taking the ball away is so important in today's game because it's become harder than ever but it still only one of playing cornerback and plays like that double move against the patriots where you could tell. He was fuming on the sideline. And maybe the safety should have also played that a little bit differently but after the game digs to his credit. Put it all on himself. He said he needed to play it. The right way and be in the right position but you know is some of that aggressiveness. Tamped down a little bit. You know did a play like that sort of force them to do that or is that going to be something that helped talk about with this coaches. I mean the best all around season. I've seen from a cornerback. Was durell regis in two thousand and nine with the jets and i have only been covering the nfl since about two thousand seven. So i know there are a lot of these before then but what rivas did that season was remarkable and taking the assignment of basically one on one man coverage with the opponents top receiver with no help over the top and a lot of situations and just blanketing them and he only had six interceptions that season because his coverage was so good..

"We'll just make a mistake. A quarterback Fires high and wide on a throw or misreads. A defense or or maybe. Just a fumbled snap that sort of leads to chaos. You know pass rushes can can do a lot to to cause takeaways in in the nfl right now but when you're talking about what it's just so unique because he's one of the few guys who he literally takes the ball away he is. He is elevated this thing to to almost the science and art the ability to force these fumbles. Yeah and a really great point you made. When we did the story last year that stuck in my mind is just how impactful a strip sack is or any kind of forced fumble. Because you're getting the ball where it happens versus an interception. Oftentimes the quarterback is throwing it down field so there is a little bit of a flip in field position but when you force the ball out you get it right there and it can really set up score or obviously in the case of the steelers game it was the game clinching play but a lot of times. It happens in the in the flow of a game. Defenses trying to get an edge. You put your offense in a really great position to score for what this skill of his really started taking off as did his career in his second season. And that's when mike tomlin had him switched sides so he and bud duprey who is in his teammates. Swaps watt headlined. Up mostly on the right side are almost exclusively on the right side as a rookie. But they thought he would be a mismatch against the league's right tackles and the part of that was that he could see. The quarterbacks is better because of the way that quarterbacks drop when they're right handers and he could bat passes down and he could see the football. When was rushing which allowed him to go after the ball a little bit more. He also which i think is interesting in this. Larger conversation about turnovers used to be an offensive player..

"Ceiling in terms of rushing yards and probably the lowest floor. I guess maybe antonio gibson you can make a case. Because he's so unproven. You can make the same case for naya harris but among the first round running backs. There aren't a lot of guys who could realistically have an under one thousand yard season without an injury. And i could see that happening with aaron jones i could see rushing yards. You mean i married aged one. Taking on a couple. Extra carries aged aaron jones dropping thirteen carries per game and then him going back to twenty nineteen efficiency where he was four point six yards per carry and that would probably be enough to get him under a thousand yards for full rushing yards for a full season. Maybe he has. Last year touchdown efficiency instead of twenty nineteen but they all that i think that's all possible But that's leaving out. The one thing that. I think is likely to be much better for him this year. The receiving that's the best one game. Yeah but he had We had nine rushing touchdowns in fourteen games. That's it feel like you had more than eleven total touchdowns and fourteen. Yeah it was. It was low after nineteen and sixteen games pass three years. The packers have had fifty percent reference. Those twelve running back touchdowns for jason garrett offenses the packers offense as averaged eighteen running back touchdowns over and there's a chance maybe dylan gets half those. That would be a problem for aaron jones. But i think it's just so unlikely that we're going to see those fifty targets or sixty targets on a sixteen game pays go. Aj dylan's way. I don't think he probably gets half that. Which should mean an extra two to three targets per game for aaron jones which should cover up any real risk that he loses in the running game. I guess it's just. It's not inconceivable that aj dylan is just so good like he is derrick henry good and he just demands carries. And you know. Maybe that's possible. I think that's probably the downside. Risk jones is what if and i don't think this is likely. But what if he's not the best running mechanism backfield and he gets into a fifty fifty split. Well that's a good thing about jones. I mean he's not just a product of the officer. He's awesome you know. He's proven that he's a great player. It'd be hard for dylan to unseat him. It's it's hard to make a bus gays against them. Especially if you get them in the second round looking at adp since july thirtieth so not even a week he is. He's eleventh he's ahead of chubb and barclay and davante adams is the first wide receiver off the board so it's been adjusted a little bit. It's that should be the case. Yeah adams is aid than hill than kelsey is ten then aaron jones. He's our be eight still ecuadoran. Jonathan taylor going ahead of him. But taylor that still don't know where his adp is going to settle in. So would you guys take aaron jones. I would go. I would go jones. But i've got. "Kind of a bust right. Yeah i just want to say this since kareem hunt's arrival okay you're and a half ago basically season and half ago. He's averaged nineteen carries per game in wins. This nick job knocking nick. Chubs areas averaged nineteen carries per game and wins and fourteen carries per game in losses so brazil little downside. We all expect the ravens to be or the browns to be really good. But if if they're not you know that's that's something consider okay. He has been a super safe and non pr. But you're not going to get a ton catches so he's such a great player. I talk about that. Class of players is something. I said before the podcast. But derrick henry last isn't had basically the best rushing season a really are the best rushing season running back could have in the fifth most rushing yards ever and he had the fourth most rushing touchdowns in a season over the last ten years. It's hard to realistically have a better season. The derrick henry and he was also number three running back. It was the thirty second best runningback season. Npr points per game over the last decade. That's amazing that is when you're talking about the that is very very very best. Furs of what a niche. Oh a derrick henry. Ajay dobbins a josh. Jacobs can do. I think that highlights what should be the case against them. Which is that you need things to go incredibly incredibly right for them to be truly elite fantasy running backs. And if i'm drafting at one to turn. I'm not satisfied with someone who i think probably has top eight upside. I want someone who could realistically break into that. Top three this strictly for obviously. He's got her sugar or even have pr. It's mostly relevant. But yeah it's it's certainly different. Yeah what we should all play happy. Pr okay davante. Adams is next if you thought tyreek hill was tough first of all. The atoms is probably not going behind tyreek hill anymore. Now that adam. Now that aaron rodgers is back he'd be better if he were adam. Rogers personally i think but this is a tough bus case to make anybody wanna give it a shot with about the ads. He is really really reliant on volume in a way that some of the other elite wide receivers aren't he's usually in the eight yards per target range lassie's at nine point two. So if you return to the eight yards per target range and let's say the packers only throw the ball to him nine times a game instead of eleven. You can probably see a scenario where you know. If there's some bad touchdown regression. Maybe he has eleven hundred yards and seven touchdowns on ninety catches and he's just like a good rb wide receiver to found. I don't know how that would be a star player. Yeah with everything going against roy..

NFL Players React to COVID Outbreak Policy

"We're talking about the NFL's protocols. Vaccination protocols, health and safety protocols. The fact that unvaccinated players and for staff if they lead to an outbreak, The team has to pony up money. Lost revenue. The players on both teams. Both teams lose game checks. And, Yeah, you get a loss on your record. You forfeit the game, But you getting lost. You don't play that game again. The NFL is basically putting it's foot to the next of players to kind of pressure them to get vaccinated. The NFL is a business that ain't messing around with their money. DeAndre Hopkins just semi threatened retirement and he was just like No, I'm Don't worry about it. He deleted the tweet. He's like, Hey, I plan on being here for nine more years. Jalen Ramsey said. Look, I am not going to pressure my teammates. He says. Whatever they do, they do. He says. I get it. I'm not going to pressure anybody. Stefon Diggs is talking about accountability is availability. He's in favor of, you know players getting vaccinated. Baker Mayfield says that it will be a competitive advantage for any team that's vaccinated. The majority. He says. It's way more than that. It's about safety, general health and well being of human life.

Best Positions for the Cowboy's Free Agents in 2021 Season Draft

"Let's talk Cowboys on today's episode. I was talking about free agency. And and this is now the time of year to be talking for you to see if we're not talking about Dak Prescott and let me ask you if you could only because it's the Cowboys here and we're not going to get greedy. If you could only sign one position in free agency. What position would that be? Before so we're assuming that co-signed here or do I have to yes. Yes. Okay. So if I'm if I'm kind of like sweeping generalities one position, it's probably a cornerback. That's that's where I'm going. And I think that's where there's the the largest amount of options especially with the fact that both Judo and Jordan Lewis are departing and free agency. I think that's where the most shallow at the moment. I don't think there's like a safety that that makes you know, it makes me want to make a bagel. You know what I mean right now, like there's not that guy in this year's free-agency. So I'd probably go corner. What's yours free safety because there is that Gap there's lots of those guys. There's good depth of pool at free safety here with I mean Marcus May and John Johnson Marcus Williams, I mean Justin Simmons is my guy but I don't sure first of all he's going to he's going to make money and second of all he's probably not going to leave the Broncos, but I think there's four or five guys right now. 24 to 27 years old high high level free safeties that are probably gonna hit the market and that's that's without. You know, some of these other guys have the market inevitably because of Captain D's because the Caps going down but I'm not Corner would be second for me. I just think if there's one position to splurge and it's free safety cuz I like Trevon Diggs. I liked the Cowboys going heavy draft capital a first round pick in the corner position. So I think you can invest in in corner line back or defensive line offensive line in in the draft one position. I'm prioritizing it for you to be fifty. But I also like I wouldn't be mad if it was Corner either. Yeah.

"The most important thing you can do for a young quarterback. The most important way you can put the finishing touch on your football team is by going out and getting a receiver. Look what Stefan Diggs has done it. Balto to Buffalo. Look what DeAndre Hopkins meant in Arizona. So we looked over here is the list of some of the unrestricted wide receivers. You know, I'm told Marcus Spears is ready to go. The big fella joining me on the Goodyear hotline. Let me bring him into the conversation on that that thought Hello, Swag. Ooh! Hey, what's up, my brother, will you tell me so I'm gonna give you just to throw a couple of names at you. I've been sitting here all morning, saying that the difference the biggest difference to me between Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. Is that the buffalo Bills went out and got Stefan digs, and the Ravens didn't And I think that was the difference in their development and the difference in that game the other night. So as I look at the list of unrestricted free agent wide receivers this year, you tell me Is there a guy who could make that kind of difference? Chris Godwin Alan Robinson, Juju Smith Schuster. Kenny Golladay. I'll throw in the names will Fuller T Y. Hilton and Corey Davis were also among the unrestricted free agents. Is there a guy on that list that says to you? Yes. Go get that guy and he can have that kind of transformational impact on your team. I think it's Alain. Robert. Hmm. Would allow you immediately. The flat marquees Brown to the two The number two. Why receiver you can get created there. Alan can win one on 1 50 50 balls and he's already been in one right, like he's already been in that in that mold. Um And that's the difference. G, like the football of difference is the fact that Lamar can do so much and be creative. You're number one, where I received more than likely will have more chances to get over them more time to get open. From from that standpoint, so it makes this that we saw obviously. The difference? Not only in the fact that Stefan Diggs is there With Josh Allen, but we saw the difference in philosophy. We saw the difference in the ability Doom or to be a transformative team and play the sound that you need to play in order to win the game yesterday showed up A rave in any kind of reignited a lot of the conversation that I was having it look by no means, you know, we talked about this early in the season by no means Was with taking the run game away from the Mark Jackson and the Ravens not being dominant, dominant run team, but I knew at some point during the season G just like his part of since we've been watching football. You're gonna have to push the ball downfield effectively. And they just haven't They don't have the guys to do it. And they don't have the philosophy is gaining to do it. And that was what I was screaming evolved the passing game that don't mean get away from your staple and your foundation. But it has evolved because in games like that When you see both of those back in the box with 89 10 guys down at the line of scrimmage, you need to have number one Alan Robinson or I number one wide receiver. That's isolated out there against the cornerback that can win and Lamar has the confidence in there. So it's a lot of things that need to transpire. But you're definitely right. They need a one. Alan Robinson fits that mold better than in the other guys you mentioned. I think, Chris God, we could be a one. But the fact that he's always had Mike Evans and now yes, all of that talent around him. Um, that would be a way to see you Look at the skill cities say Yeah, he could potentially be a one get drafted you but I haven't Robinson is no doubt to me that he could be on one until let's say if it's the Ravens or any other team that might be out there looking for receiver to put them over the top greenie with you presented by progressive insurance, making it easy to bundle your home and car insurance. As you listen to Marcus is unmistakable Voice that accent That's a Louisiana accent. You were a kid from Baton Rouge. And you played it ls you And so I wonder if you can help People across the country who may not understand. Put into words if we did indeed see the last of Drew Brees yesterday. What he meant to that city to that region of the country. What, what his career it It feels to me goes far beyond what he accomplished on the football field. I wonder if you could put that into words for us. The first of all look like you said. I grew up in Baton Rouge and you know Drew Brees. Getting into his career, his individual statistics, the things that he's done, all well documented. We know how it's tremendous of a football player and quarterback he Woz. Um, but I remember growing up with people used to wear brown paper bags over their head when they went the same escape. I remember the New Orleans things being the laughing stock. Remember the New Orleans things being in conversations that the L s U football team to beat the New Orleans Saints? And then they got Drew Brees and Sean Payton and they start to put together trip tremendous teams. They start to build a philosophy and they start to do things like a world class organization would do to put their guys in position to win. Then they had this quarterback Drew Brees, who had been kind of belong to the war because of a shoulder issue and didn't know if he was gonna be held. They took a chance on him. He took a chance on the saints in that city that they would get things right. And then you directly go back to Hurricane Katrina when he was there as the storm quarterback and all he did for the community and and the people in New Orleans and being a part of that community, not only the revival off of New Orleans but ushering in kind of this new idea of what the New Orleans Saints would be. How we have people with beautiful and not to mention Winning the Super Bowl is well so drew. It's drew as Dunmore from New Orleans from a sports figure than anybody that's ever played. And I know Archie Any quarterback there, and I know his business. Tremendous guys. They're past willing to have done amazing things in the city, but none will be remembered like Drew Brees. No briefs that you need to go up in front of the suit the Mercedes Benz dog Superdome. As I knew it, they need to make sure he's always supported three and in the fabric of what they do, going forward. Did you know all these things why he ushered in the era of football of a franchise that was in the business. The head, no identity that didn't look at themselves a champion, and he he and Sean Payton created a whole different vibe into water. And now you see Do all these jerseys all over the place And you see is the brand name now and you see Drew Brees being there in the natural, just remnants of the the work he's done out off the football field will last For lifetime, So it is. Right now. We don't start talking about young quarterbacks in the draft, and we're gonna talk about God just watching going to the city in doing all of these story lines that we're gonna have Umm With a franchise commits to a quarterback when they pay a guy like like the normal face of Pedro Breeze. When you look at his career totality with him being in New Orleans. That is the model of what you want your franchise quarterback to be not just winning games winning playoff games bring in the Super Bowl title, but also the impact on the community.

That was a huge play and based out for our defense, our guys make plays and we had to, and we're moving on. Saturday night. The Buffalo Bills with an enormous win over the Baltimore Ravens lead in large part by one of the great acquisitions we've seen in recent NFL memory. Stefan Diggs was brilliant that night, and the Bills are in the championship game and joining us now to talk about it. One of the great receivers of his time. Steve Smith, senior who is now on NFL network and the host of the cut to it, podcast he is with me. On the Goodyear Hotline. Hello, Steve Smith Sr. Hey, what's going on, Stranger? Very nice to say that and I was mostly I was thoroughly kidding. Obviously, you've done a fabulous story. You were ready for this long before you came anywhere near us. Okay, let's let's get to business here. Made the statement this morning. Let's get real about the fake crowd noise at NFL games

"Revisit the Rams and Seattle Seahawks game. I hated watching the Seahawks game because it was there are so many moments where the crowd fake crowd noise was really really loud above the broadcasters like Tom and all these trying to talk on the sidelines and you couldn't hear him cuz a stupid fake crowd noise, which is even weirder cuz you know that the people on the sidelines Jared Goff Russell Wilson, he came backed up. They don't hear fake crowd noise only people watching the game on T. Hear the fake crowd noise. I hate it so much. I'd rather honestly hear the noise of people on the sidelines. Or people at the line of scrimmage yelling. I was going crazy at one point on the sidelines. We couldn't hear the guy at all cuz of the fake crowd noise and I A friend of mine from high school plays for the LA Rams and I'm going to wait till he retires to ask him this question, but I want to have them on the Shelf someday to be like hey, what do you like to play a playoff game with an empty Stadium? I know the NFL doesn't really seem to answer that question just yet. There's a reason why you haven't heard anybody complaining about it, but I'm so desperate to know like what's it like to play in NFL game? I'll be damned meaningful playoff game a meaningful NFL game with nobody in the crowd and you can hear everything. It sounds like an empty gymnasium or an empty gym. Like I I want to hear what that sounds like and what what it's like to play in that circumstance and I just hated the fake crowd noise in the Seattle Seahawks Rams game

"Radio here on this Friday or player, but he's doing well. We'll get to the inbounds out of bounds coming up. Next carry Irving. That is a situation that is a very good right now for the Nets, and Steve Nash has no idea what's going on. That is a horrendous look for Kyrie Irving horrendous. We'll get to that coming up next. Obviously a football Friday, so that's pretty much Everything else is gonna be around Wall card weekend from coaching stuff. A stuff continues to trickle in and three games tomorrow three games on Sunday, which is sweet and one of the games take tomorrow. That's first game. The bills are hosting the Colts. Now you've got Stefan digs with they almost like a oblique strain. And you got Beasley, who didn't play in week 17. He's got the lower extremities injury. Both players were limited in practice. And both players right now officially listed as questionable on against the pretty good defense with a coordinated by the way he's getting some blokes. Is it possible head coach candidate here? This is a dangerous situation for Josh out of the bills who, if full and healthy, Not only would I expect him to win, but to cover the 6 6.5 points with those guys beat up. This changes the dynamic of this game. Obviously, it changes significantly BT because you think about the completion percentage, the The explosive plays the yards per game. All of those things are top of the league for the Buffalo Bills. That's why Brian Day Ball, the officer coordinator You were alluding to is getting all this head coaching love right now, but that happens when you have a great Quarterback, and I don't say that lightly. A great quarterback, wide receiver combination like Josh Alan and Stefan digs have become the season bt Diggs has been great, and you talk about a guy who was, I don't know, complaining about his role in Minnesota. Usually when you when you clamor for greener past year, it doesn't always work out really hard to integrate yourself into another situation and thrive. The way that Stefan Diggs is doing. He's proving that maybe he was right. What he was saying. It's soda. Give me the ball many different way too seriously. Well, um, And so if he if he is, I don't think he'll be out. I think he'll play. Um He's a tough kid on He knows what's at stake. And if he goes out and balls this weekend and through the rest of the postseason, he really always have this quote. You know, I say nobody loves it like your mother. Well, the step Mom might love him a little bit a little bit better than the moment did. If he goes, it has that Has that kind of has that kind of a post season this year, So I think Play. But if he doesn't that's the question. Well, we're looking for with Josh Alan, can he lift other guys? Guys that aren't as elite of a player stuff on digs is On, By the way, Beasley as I mentioned, you know, Beasley's incredibly quick and you know, just a great route Runner and a stick find there if you will. So even if you know, digs plays, but he's a little compromise. And Beasley doesn't or they both play and they're a little compromised. By the way I obviously table I'm told about the defensive coordinator for the Colts. Oh, yeah, Who's getting sniffed the head coach? So imagine You know you have your primary weapon compromised. We're not there and your secondary weapon compromised and or not there and Oh, yeah, By the way, you're playing a really good defense with the coordinator who's viewed is as a rising star. It's certainly not a layup. And then there's Philip Rivers and very, very well could be the end of the road. You know, nice to see him get back to the playoffs here. He's had some great seasons in the past where just robust win totals. You know, 14 wins that didn't go 50 50 to 11 year I went 14 2 years at least made about 15. Maybe either way, he's had multiple 12 wins of 14 win season And then there's been these Postseason flameout, not necessarily due to Philip Rivers, but you know, it's this is the last ride for him, and I don't know He has a complex legacy. Biggest. The numbers are there. But when we all watch and the ultimate measurement of a quarterback is You know his postseason success? It's It's very hard to stamp him as an all time. Great if if he doesn't get there, Yeah, it's hard to do it. It is and you and he probably won't know this. So this is the Hall of Fame question. There's a lot of people like to bring up regarding quarterbacks, and especially this generation this aging out generation of quarterbacks, and they wonder if Philip will make it. I think maybe he will, but it's going to take some time BT because Of the piers that he goes up that Hill go up against really, for the next. I don't know, Decade of guys who are retiring and deserve their their their busts in Canton. And we know who they are. Or his peers been Roethlisberger and Eli and his visit after Peyton, but Aaron Rodgers, and so if he doesn't hit it at the right time, hey, could wait a couple of years because they raise sea breeze. I didn't say breeze, but breezes, obviously one as well. Brady Brady exactly. He He's going to have to compete against those guys in a competition for the whole of fame that he simply can't win head to head with those guys, right? So he make it in, But it's gonna take some time. And the argument against him will be heavy relative to all those other guys that he's gonna be competing against. And it's a shame because Philip Rivers, I think is a great great all time Great type quarterback. He just didn't win a Super Bowl and didn't have a chance really to. You didn't even play in the championship game anyway. Unless that he had a couple, too, By the way, didn't go 15 and one was forced to look at 14 and two Uh, he had a couple of 11 win seasons. Any of those any of those get to the championship, given Kat to the A C championship? Yeah. Um, the E. I don't believe so. Yeah. So I don't believe you think he played in the in the conference is, you know Title game with the right to go to the Super Bowl? Yeah, but the last Super Bowl so It's unfortunate because it is an indictment on a quarterback just like it's an indictment on a head coach who doesn't go that way. Did he go? Where did he go? A second here was that I don't remember It had to look it up, and I don't have it in front of me right now, But I don't think so. Either way, If it was, we're not remembering it. Well, here's the other problem, too, because as the other guys and you make a valid point, you know the allies the bends with the championships and then, of course, the Brady's the breezes. The Rogers, who was probably You know, 34 years minimally from hanging it up. And then a couple of years after you retire, and then there's Ah, there's just I see Philip Rivers is in the territory where they did go the second they did the 2nd 2nd year, Okay? That's the only trip and the the statistical trends now, uh, you know what we can point to with Philip Rivers as well. Hey, look, enemies here all time and yours here all time and touchdown. Cyril time it is But you know the passing game is not going to suddenly slow down. It's only going to become more pronounced. So is he's waiting for the guys that we just identified to get in the Hall of Fame, and they will obviously will. Other guys will be building similar numbers. Okay, they could win more. Um, but he even is in a position where he's going to get past a lot on the old time accumulation lists and without a championship. He can sing further to the back of our memory. Maybe not our member because you saw every game, but you know what I mean? Yes, I do so and that, and that makes it tough to to give him his just due because he's a great quarterback. There's no doubt about it, arguing that The question is, Will he be immortalized in Canton, Ohio? When some great players just aren't on Dhere might end up being one of those? It's a shame, you know, Maybe he has a magical run this year, and can they beat Um, Buffalo in Buffalo. Of course they can..

"Let's go through the games really quickly here. Who do you like from from a standpoint on the colts dave plier. Jonathan taylor is going to be popular and you make sense. You know that buffalo's still kind of having some issues with running the the run defense. I should say Five touchdowns four point seven yards per a running back over their last three games. And taylor get fed so he would be the first name on indianapolis that i would look at any might be the only one that i really feel good about. There's a chance that philip rivers could have three hundred yards and a couple of touchdowns but there's also a chance that you could have like fall on his face. Type of a game one touchdown. We've seen buffalo hold quarterbacks to nineteen or fewer fantasy points in four of their past five games or each of the past four games in five of the past six games and. I think that the colts can put up some points. But i think taylor is going to be the big reason. Why maybe if they really try and lean on their ground. Game hines gets involved. Maybe dc sleeper. But i'm not sure if price makes them worth taking a chance on. Naim is on my favorite players this week by far and any site because they're most likely chasing points and i think he's gonna have a huge game catching them all well. Seven hundred on draft kings. How much the vandal. It's fifty six hundred and he's two hundred more than jd mckissic. So obviously they're similar players. Who giannis two hundred less than mckissic on draft kings. He fifty six hundred zero. But but i think he's a little. I get it but i think that's a good contrarian play or maybe maybe concern isn't the right word not popular play whereas taylor's going to be super popular. Taylor is going to be popular rivers hilton. Any interest rivers more so infantile in drafting. Okay and then josh allen. How do we feel about josh allen game. The thing the thing about the colts legitimately good run defense..

"It's too much. It's too much against the spurs defence knowing that he's not gonna practice a week i. I don't think running backs necessarily have to practice like a quarterback or you know like like defensive players every single week to prepare for the opponent. They basically arrested the same thing. Most weeks chimeras. No exception of that But i would be worried about him getting his usual playing time unless he just starts off red hot which always possible with them but to get twenty five. Plus p p r points. I think it's a little too much to expect. Given the circumstances. Okay and bears rondi. Vince been pretty good lately when they've had akeem hicks however the other New orleans running backs or off the reserve covid list so you if chimeras out i'm sure a lot of people will look at latavius. Murray and good news for bears for saints running backs bad news for the bears run defense roquan smith linebacker row. Crohn's while roquan smith likely out this week. They should get back their rookie. Cornerback jalen johnson. And based on where. Michael thomas often lines up and how the bears don't really move their cornerbacks. I mean i feel like it could be jalen johnson coming off of a three week absence up against michael. Thomas who reportedly is going to be close to full health. And i are you guys. Is he kind of an automatic in your lineups this week. Michael thomas kinda yeah for sure. I mean it's unbelievable price tag for him. You never gonna see in this hopefully ever again because that means he's playing great but Yeah he's i. I'm doing a story for for the site for friday of goodbyes. Bad buys For both sites and for jack kingston and vandal. And he's the second receiver on that. I'm sorry i ride deceiver that you listed on draftkings in the second largest fan. Oh sixty four hundred on draftkings on draftking. He is sixty eight hundred on federal. Who got to no. Who's the better bargain on fan. Will i buy. I did it by price in terms eliminated all the obvious place and so just him. The johnson are flipped in terms of most the guy in terms of price. So the johnson. Seven thousand thanks. Goodbye fans well but on draftkings the most expensive of the lesser to your guys if those receivers were my lineup. I wonder if they'll just be too popular. I mean the problem with the problem with only six games is everybody is going to be using some combination of everybody knows right. You gotta find like one. Maybe two cheap guys. Yeah you gotta find the out of nowhere candidates while i think what david murray qualifies if kamar place because he's going to be very obvious if kamara doesn't play but you're alluding to in terms of workload if he's not going to his workload and people say i'm not gonna play the tapis mary because there that's one that stands out of the non quarterbacks i think one. That's intriguing to me. If he's healthy is as mckenzie 'cause they played them in slot in week. Seventeen and kobe doesn't play with john. Brownback saw he did he nine targets and six catches. So that's an interesting one Coconut is actually more expensive on Fan duel than jimmy graham. But i would still play. Quoque met because i think he's going to see more targets. 'specially with them chasing points and then moons out then. Anthony miller becomes interesting because moonies banged up after getting hurt me seventeen. He was just a pr stud mooney would be very popular if he plays too because under four thousand on draftkings and he's had this much bigger role lately in the bears offense..

"Very risky. Especially when one of them. Jk dobbins might have fifteen catches next year. Sure but again as we talked about earlier this week think for me. Dobbins is is right behind in a very you know a lesser degree but in the same caliber of player like a derrick henry and like nick chubb. Don't think he's going to get to those heights yet. But a running back the very productive. Pr despite not catching the ball. Because of what he will do on the ground and because of what he will do with the golan to get him in the third round to be my flex. I was very comfortable with the receiving corps that i built which will talk about next week. but i i have no problem starting with Ekeler who is You know Pbr monster and james robinson. Which i think. Prove himself to be a top toll caliber running back last year with the addition of trevor lawrence wellesley. Be good. actually. That was really the the basis for the question was the confidence and james robinson Over i guess a safer pick like hopkins with devolved into something else but okay dave. What would you have done their if you already had a running back in the first round in three receiver. Pr league on running back around to. I might and it's because i know that there's going to be good wide receiver depth and i think people will see that when when they see rounds three four and five and our mock next week. They're going to say well. This is this is some good talent. these are some of these guys like you said golladay. We took and round four and in our mocks and he was going earlier. Matt last year and beezer mock drafts without rookies. It's before free agency. It's before trades are going down. So i think there's going to be some pretty good depth across the board in you know it's going to be there in quarterback you know it's going to be wide receiver but running back. It's going to be a little top heavier than it was before which is a good thing and in our half. Pr fight started with three running backs. Dobbins was one of them. And i'm i'm i can't wait to see how the team shakes out because it's going to be good. You do not have to. I believe don't have to go crazy. Numbers cevers early drafts. And twenty twenty one and i will say adam Because you mentioned air jones. Aaron jones back with the packers taken over Okay all right then So that's a sneak peek at the mock draft that we did and it will be talked about in more detail next week and next week we will have our award show on the twelfth. What does that tuesday today to know. Yes yes on. Tuesday the twelfth so stay tuned for that and you can vote right now. We gave you the nominees earlier this week. They're all available to vote.

"You like the expanded post-season field very exciting very Very much looking forward to All of these games. They have a lot of intrigue in a variety of ways but Yeah it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be great to see who pulled off the upset. Who's this year's titans can make run So yeah look forward to How this all will unfold date. Who is this yours tightened. Who can make a run could be the titans at least in the first round going up against baltimore team that beat earlier this year and handled well last year. I actually haven't picked that game yet. I'm not sure how it's going to go. I'm not sure if there's really another team out there. That would be like a shocker. The ravens could could the winner of that game be the cinderella. Maybe maybe probably right those that game at like the five seat is baltimore. Four seats tennessee and then in the other conference. The five seat is tampa bay. I don't think anybody's going to be surprised. If they make a run even as the five seed colts the seven. I think buffalo widsom man. You can run on buffalo. That's why they're surprising so any any anybody that's going to you know. Pull the polish shockers. The one that you are not going to be expecting it. Nobody expected the titans to go to the afc championship game last year. So the colts could easily be that the browns due for success or are are the ones that know you look at it. You can run the ball in the playoffs. That's usually the formula for success. Yeah the browns. Dave they can beat the steelers on the road. They i think they could beat the steelers. I'm not saying they will. That's another game. I haven't picked yet but i think it's possible. I think there's a slight chance that the bears can handle the saints. I'd be surprised that they won. But i think there's a chance i would give them a chance. I think they've got a better chance to win this. We've they did.

"Picks the best players that every position in 2020 And there was a bear listed. Aaron Rodgers. Oh, Didn't get him Amukamara. No, we don't get him. Stefan Diggs, No Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, Travis Kelsey. Those are terrific. Quality. Top of the line top shelf off offensive weapons for any football team, not our team, but they're not bears correct. All right, let's go to the defense of side of the football. It's got to be the guy who's like the second highest paid defensive player of all time. Khalil Mack, right, isn't it? No. Wait a minute. We're paying. How much for our two end edge rushers, and neither guy neither. Can't play off the other and make this list. Roque Juan Smith is the only bear listed. I want you to think about that. Just let that wash over you just for a second. Our captors gave you two guys that most teams would want on the surface. Not this year. Just so much on the surface, say, Hey, you can have a difference making player at all at linebacker like Robert Quinn. Or have someone at linebacker like Roll Kwan Smith. And you said, or I'm sorry, or like or Khalil Mack at outside line, But so, yeah, I'll love to have those guys on my football team. But then you see the lack of production. You go. Wait a minute. Now Wait a minute. You mean tell me those guys They're not getting to the quarterback. But yet, bro Quan Smith, The inside linebacker is a guy that's listed on this on this list here about that. Like again. As I told you. I've seen every step a record Smith when he said Georgia Big Georgia fan, I said, if where he's gonna go, he's gonna be a cornerstone player for 10 years. You may not make all the splash plays, but he's gonna be dependable and be right there. People ask about learned floor people were blowing up my phone like we learned Floyd. Hey, you've seen every step. What do you think that I go? Yeah, He was always around the pile at the reason for the pile. No, no, no. He's Julius Peppers that no, he's not. He wasn't with the Bears. Right now he's playing better. Remember listening to you at night. And New York. Georgia fan bears get Leonard Floyd I tune in the hoody and he's like, Yeah, I don't like this pic. So I walk in the next day, and York has a relative who played a Georgia And you're very good at analyzing defensive players. Nice it has snowed last night. He's a huge Georgia fan. He does not like the Leonard Floyd pick, he said. Smart man. He's got no rear end. He is going to struggle to get off blocks. It's a bad pick. Yeah. I'm like two guys are telling me this devastated. We traded up to get him and now he gets 10.5 sacks because he plays off of Aaron. Donald. Very well. Well as a talent evaluator yourself. Because that's what coaching is, as we're scouting is telling evaluation. You know what? I see something in him. I know I can get the most out of them by doing this or in this scheme is gonna work. You make the pics. You make one of the picks you want, but you always feel like you know what? He's not quite the Polish guy just as of yet, but I know I can get more out of him. That's what you always feel. That's why you make the pics. Right. And then you saw him with the Bears and just didn't work. Okay, so Danny And it was me Danny. Was it Ryan, the goofy I think it was the three of us and I walked away. John Fox is that Waddell's house, Danny and Gulf and Fox here drinking vodka. And Fox could put the vodka down and he says, Let me just refill my glass, and he's telling stories, and then I end up walking away. My son was with me and my wife and Danny. That's why his voice sounds like that. Yeah, and Danny back me up, Danny did Fox not say Leonard Floyd is Jason Taylor. CORRECT. He did. Yeah, he did. He also said that Mitch two bit. He also said Mitch for Biscuit is going to turn into one hell of a quarterback. So they're still out. Take that with a grain of salt, But he did say it that same thing because I was still standing there, he told you and Ryan. Yeah, but I would have drafted to Shawn Watson. He's better. He did say that he did say that. Absolutely damn right. Damn right. You would have I take the winner but over the project, but Leonard Floyd, he said Jason Taylor and I remember I think it might have been Danny Jason Taylor's in the Hall of Fame. Yep. No, and he's going to be that guy Gold, Jack. Hey, old, jagged green jacket. Yeah, I mean gold jacket. Yeah, So I think so. They all Miss Man they all miss, You always think you could get the most out of a certain player he's ever thinking. But let's put a bow on this because When Danny gave us this list here and I'm looking through and I'm looking for bears, he says. Only person hears What real Kwan Smith. That's a further indictment on pace. Just is. Oh, yes. Yes. You have what you thought was the genuine article by getting Robert Quinn in here. You say you know what we already have a key mix. We already have. Clearly, Mac, let's add Robert Quinn to the mix. Try putting your head on the head of the hat because your defense already was good. You know you weren't at your doctor. Susan. I got 34 hats. He walked around, But now two of those heads can't get you to the quarterback. Okay? What if Ryan said to you, Jonathan? 100 Floyd got tired to have sex in l A. Why couldn't our coaches get that out of him? Don't fire the coach is that Right? Does it validate his evaluation? Because Leonard Floyd has developed into a pretty damn good football player in L. A get a double digit sack season. Pretty damn impressive It is, But when you got Quinn isn't it seemed excessive, especially when you need to help on the offensive line. It all goes back in the same circle. It goes back to the same conversation of You already have picks and you have Mac. And you have guys that you like for the future Like a nickel's. You didn't know what Britt Urban was going to be. What? You had a good secondary. You thought, OK, you're good. Cap..

Stefon Diggs Is Buffalos Miracle Man

"The best season of his pro career right now. How good are things going in buffalo. I mean really good. Pablo like you said. I mean you know again this is. This is a team. Obviously that has a lot of scar tissue for a difficult times in the past and so the bills themselves are they won. The division for the first time in a couple of decades and digs is right at the center of their success. I'm always staying for buffalo trust and believe in me. I'm forever grateful personally. He is having the best season of his career. He's averaging i think twenty yards more per game step touched up. He's leading the league in receptions josh allen. Taking a deep shot the separation from dixon. He's and he's doing in so many different ways dick's just electric on the outside best received early. Nfl this season so he's been outstanding and the cherry on top came against the broncos digs broke the bills franchise record for receptions allen fires. This one is caught about step addict. Steph dick sets the club record with one hundred and one catches on the season. Congratulate is showing the bills and the whole nfl just how versatile a receiver he really is. You interviewed him for your cover story. Sam what was he like in person burg. I honestly i came into it. A little bit unsure what to expect when i sat down and started talking with digs though it became clear very quickly that he's an upbeat guy. A positive guy a guy who likes to laugh a guy smile. A guy who really enjoys fashion is a little bit eccentric at various points. We talked about the books. He's been reading. He really enjoyed the alchemist his a starbucks order which is apparently tavon green tea with a little bit of juice in it. Well so he loves the alchemist the book. He's apparently an alchemist. Like juice in your starbucks order really y- apparently he's really into it and i have to say as somebody who enjoys green tea and also enjoys apple juice. I had never thought put them together. But it's actually not bad. I want to rewind a bit sam. Talk about he got to where he is now. That trade in question which happened in march minnesota to buffalo. What was going on with digs in the vikings before that so let's go back a little bit right. He's drafted by the vikings in two thousand. Fifteen comes out of the university of maryland sort of work his way in take advantage of the opportunities and then the minneapolis miracle case on a deep drop. Step up in the pocket. He'll fire to the right side. Does it does that catch in. January of two thousand. Eighteen is arguably the greatest play in vikings history. And they've been around for over sixty years so that's pretty significant. You would think in that moment. Okay this is a play. That's going to define this guy's career and it's going to link him forever to this team. Damn bill says i. I got a Never stop working. Today was went all the work paid off and this is where i found his arc interesting within a year and a half or so. He's absolutely miserable. And even though you might have thought hey. This guy could spend his whole career with the vikings. After having this moment it became very clear that that wasn't going to be the case. So what went wrong in minnesota. Why was he so unhappy.

What the Patriots can learn from the BIlls' QB strategy

"Talk About That quarterback position because I think you know alot of patriot sales again, and I keep saying this but they don't like it when we point out at the bills rebuilding strategy is working in that the Patriots could learn something from Buffalo. So what are we going to learn from Buffalo? You know, they haven't won anything in twenty years, right? It's like no no, no. No, this is a great case study by Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott M how to put a Young quarterback in the perfect situation to succeed. Especially Young quarterback and Josh Allen who let's face. It was a high ceiling, you know, low floor type of prospect at very high bus potential if it didn't go to the right direction in Buffalo. So I looked at back at that 2018 draft. They actually traded up twice for Josh Allen's pick at seventh overall from Twenty-One wage. Because they made that playoffs or Tyrod Taylor, right? Was that the year? Yeah, so they made the playoffs with Tyrod Taylor Sweet in as a wild-card team. Then they were picking 21st. They traded up from 21 to 12 and then 12 to sneak in to get their guide Josh Allen, but I actually think more so and we can talk a little bit about Allen's development to more so than Allen's individual development. Would McDermott and being did to you know, make sure the offensive line to add Cole Beasley and Stephon Diggs and put Josh Allen in this perfect kind of offense for his skill-set with Brian table. That's really I think as much about what we've seen from Josh Allen's growth is anything in that sort of speaks to the team building process of the whole thing.

What Is Wrong With Cam Newton and the Patriots Offense?

What Is Wrong With Cam Newton and the Patriots Offense?

"To ask a questions about Camp because I want to know what we're watching here and what I mean by that is this is somebody who was considered throughout his entire NFL career to be a top ten to twelve came back. He was never great from the pocket. He was never super accurate, but he was not a dumpster fire. So what's happening is is it he's just off falling off a cliff at age Thirty-One, which doesn't necessarily happen very often if at all at the quarterback position where a guy just you know goes from the top ten to twelve guy to just plummeting to literally one of the you know, 557 worst quarterbacks in the League this year. Is it physical with him Jay Glazer said before the game in Glazier usually has some really good information, you know, he kind of keeps a lot of the stuff in his pocket, but when he drop off stuff, it's usually dropping a bomb unless it's, you know, teasing 24 hours out and offensive lineman with covid-19 another story, but you know, you've got you've got Glazer coming out saying he's in an awful lot of pain. Is it is it that like what I just there needs to be a reason Greg there needs to be a reason why I saw a Cam Newton for eight to nine years in Carolina again not be supervised celebrated with a program and and not be you know, incredible breaking defenses down but still effective and now this guy is completely completely a mess. I'm just trying to make sense of it. Is it is it is it physical that he fall off a cliff is this what he is like are the Patriots not necessarily utilizing him in a manner like Carolina did which would make him more effective. I want to get to the bottom of it cuz I feel like what a lot of people are doing right now and it's it's listen. It's Justified criticize them all you want he's been bad, but I feel like we're more criticized in the result instead of asking why like what has gone wrong is this just the inevitable deterioration of a guy who took a lot of hits and is now what he is. I don't know what the answer is. Yeah. Well here's Answer it's a lot of little things that have sort of added up and gotten us to this point because I think you know really I mean really in the past month. He's been bad. In fact that you would say he was average or a little bit above average but I think on the whole this season, I would say Cam Newton is average number one. As far as factors would Newton and why he's not better why it's not working here. Number one for me is he's no longer. He doesn't have the legs. He used to have he is no longer. He's fine, He's still elusive, but he's an aging mobile quarterback and that doesn't really work and that's always been part of the equation with Cam going back to Auburn. Anyone Heisman Trophy you can teams had to respect his legs. They realized they no longer have to respect his legs because he's not going to just dominate a game with his legs anymore. He doesn't have that ability would be so instead of instead of being afraid of Cam in and being like we have to have eyes on cam and we have to do this and that they're know in playing Zone soft his own. They're no longer. They they realize they no longer have to do that. So, you know, they're just stacking the box and they'll play cover-3 on the outside or man-to-man or what-have-you. They they do whatever they want to do coverage wise cuz they know cams not going to beat them. I mean at most what's he going to get ten fifteen yards? Like he's not going to change the game. Number two is the Patriots just distinct lack of weapons and we'll talk about this anymore in a little bit. But I mean look the Patriots are goddamn horrible at everywhere other than running back and offensive line. I mean they are they're I mean, they're awful. They are awful. They're awful in this division there at the bottom of the Barrel in this division below the Jets below the Dolphins certainly below the bills. I mean, they're just it's falling off a cliff. I mean they have nothing they have no tight ends. They have no wide receivers. They they have running backs. Yeah. They have a great offensive line. Yeah, but it's only going to get you so place so so it's all on cam like when you when you take off If if Cam had better weapons if he was saved the bills, I mean if he had Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley and John Brown and like, you know Gabriel Davis and Dawson box and you know, all these guys all over the place where you can spread them out and they gotta be like, oh crap. Well, we got a double digs because what's going to happen like Then then cam might be able to do some things like between his legs and the lack of weapons. There's just the Patriots are just they're in a telephone booth. They can't they the quarterback can't do anything with the offense of coordinator can't do anything like to me you combine all those things. Plus there's probably some residuals shoulder stuff with Cam you combine all those things? Yeah, and you're right. It's it's not good in offense right

"The bills first I see first reported I think from Jay Glazer from NFL I'd fax the bills the Buffalo Bills required wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a trade with the Vikings and you said Adam Schefter has more information as a shifter put out what the other parts the deal A. R. the bills are sending a first round pick a fifth round pick a sixth round pick and twenty twenty one fourth round pick for digs and a twenty twenty seventh round pick she thinks the Texans feel right now yeah that's a ton that's W. said I mean that's the whole that's the whole you're given up for de Andre Hopkins or at least what should have been writing up for de Andre Hopkins yeah he is no where Stefon Diggs being is nowhere near the caliber of receiver that the Andre Hopkins is now no he's not and that's amazing what a great move for the bills huh great move for the bills the Vikings get more and so so now the Vikings become well you you would think better he didn't want to play for the river last year with the injuries they had a tight end out wide receiver that also him not getting the ball and prodding and being upset that he didn't get the ball and now do you see the contract getting paid to Kirk cousins it

Doug we'll start with you you in or out on the chiefs winning Super Bowl fifty four if mahomes isn't the MVP. I still win. I mean they have tyreek Hill entirely kill is is arguably the fastest player in the history of the National Football League. I've had scouts tell me he was the fastest player they ever scouted. They went to Oklahoma state. Never seen speed like that and they've seen some speed come into stillwater stillwater. So they can look he t takes it end around or heaped brings a punt for a touchdown tyreek Hill could have one of those games is. Is it likely no but they can still win. They're going to need somebody offensively to have an other worldly performance in addition pat homes. I think to win this

Killa La Method Man Ray Kwan Inspector Deck Masekela and you God and then later on you had capitana so now you can go ahead and forward to the sparkly quiz music if you want but if you wanna hear the whole story buckling so picture it. Staten Island late. One thousand nine hundred eighty S. Oh ooh I know your favorite of the boroughs so the Park Hill housing complex which is located in the Clifton neighborhood on Staten Island had become the site of steadily increasing crime crime and drug abuse beginning in the early nineteen seventies by the late nineteen eighties to gain the nickname of crack hill due to the many arrests for possession in or sale of crack cocaine that were taking place place in and around the development. The bulk of the Park Hill neighborhood had been built in the nineteen sixties During New York City's plan for urban renewal projects in the majority of US residents were African. American can the complex consisted of fifteen acres of six story. Brick apartment buildings hearing from former residence doesn't exactly paint the most glowing portrait but kids of all ages in this complex played outside listening to music. DJ -Ing break-dancing Designing Graffiti and doing all kinds of other activities. That would later come to define hip hop so in their early early twenties. Cousins Robert Diggs Gary Greis and Russell. Tyrone Jones formed a group named force of the imperial master later known as the all in together. Now how crew. So Gary and Russell lived in Brooklyn but will come to Staten Island to visit their cousin Robert. Each of the three members recorded under an alias. Gary grace was the genius genius. Robert Diggs was Prince Raquin or the scientists in Russell. Jones was the specialist the group never signed to a major label but they caught the attention of the New York City rap scene through their homemade tapes by nine hundred ninety. One genius and prints were. Kim resigned to separate record labels but the label seemed to have strong armed them into doing some songs that they didn't didn't really feel so for example prince teams for a single was called. ooh I love you rookie. Ladies Man in the showtime documentary shows parts of this music video from nineteen ninety one and it is very nice it is so ninety S. It's so he you know. He's all dressed in early nineties. Ladies have that bright makeup on the big hair and like the shoulder pads and it's like Ooh we love rocky and it's like China he's like yeah all the ladies love me and this is when you listen to his later stuff like that was that was not really his vibe boy. So that didn't go so well for Prince or team didn't go for further genius genius so the cousins refocused their efforts and they give themselves some new nicknames. So the genius became Jessica cheesy pronounce. Gizeh and prints are keen became name Rizza. Oh showers the Russell Jones became older dirty bastard or ODBC R- is said that he knew the best rappers on Staten Island and he wanted to put a home-cooked meal of hip hop of real people. Together there early nineties rise of West Coast. Music shifted mainstream hip hop visibility. Away from New York City and Rizza decided to change all in the early nineties so recipe and collaborating with Dennis Coles who was later known as ghost face killer. They decided to create a hip hop group whose ethics would be a blend of of eastern philosophy picked up from Kung Fu movies. Five percent nation teachings from the streets and comic books so five percent nation is an American revisionist movement which split from the Nation of Islam in nineteen sixty three so this movement rejected being called a religion preferring instead to be known as a culture and a way of life in its teachings are referred to as supreme mathematics which you'll hear over and over you know when they give interviews and talk about you know Wu Tang. They're always talking about the supreme mathematics. Okay cool so Liu. Tang clan assembled in late nineteen ninety-two with Rizza as the defacto leader and the group's producer Rizza an old dirty bastard adopted the name for the group after the film Shaolin and Wu Tang so in contemporary China Chinese martial arts sales are generally classified into two major groups. You have Wudong which is named named after the Wudang Mountains in Shaolin named after the Shaolin Monastery Risen said that Wu Tang was the best sword style of martial arts and the tongue is like a sword soared and so I say that we have the best lyrics so therefore we are Tang clan. Love it the group also developed backrooms for their name including witty unpredictable. Edible talent and natural game okay and wisdom of the universe and the truth of Allah for the nation of the gods. I feel like I've heard that. Yeah Yeah so this is a background. It wasn't like the actual thing but it's fun when they can do that to make it so the group pulled together three hundred dollars to record their first track at firehouse studios the song protect. Your neck was released independently on Tang records in Nineteen ninety-two. The song made them the most talked about new act in New York City's underground and announced a new brand of hardcore hip pop in in the documentary talked to some of their former management. who were like? Okay here's what we did like we would send someone at a record store like ask for the new. ooh Tang Song and they'd be like we don't have that and then they would have somebody else come back in and be like two of us have the new routines and they'd be like no and then somebody would come in like playing the Wutang boombox and people would gather around be like yeah. This is great and they'd be like yeah. Wish you buy some of this so it was like guerrilla me. Yeah it worked. uh-huh course they would also like early on. They would kind of show up at Radio Studios like a colleague Ecology station or something like that with album. You should play this. Maybe we should do that with our podcast. Why haven't we done that? Well maybe not with radio station. 'cause that's the University of Rochester banging on the glass door. Be Like you should thumb drives us. Yeah exactly thumb drive you should play. Yeah podcast I'm your radio station. What I'm sure you're three? AM timeslot is open. Yeah of course. It is so risen the management including his brother divine bovine wanted to make sure that the group's members wouldn't be saddled with exclusive contracts with a particular record label. He wanted them to be able to launch future solo projects so there was a little bit of difficulty difficulty in finding a record label that would sign the Tang clan while still allowing each member to record solo albums with other labels. Okay seve Rifkin. Allowed records agreed need to all of us in Nineteen ninety-three so loud would get the first option to sign a solo artist. But then they would be allowed to talk to other studios so if you were like I'm GonNa go out on my own loud could say okay. I would give you this much money and then you were free to shop around and then still pick is the best thing. That's a nice deal. Yeah it was in. This was pretty pretty rare for those times especially when labels like owned Like decades so signing with records everybody agreed that led to the November remember nineteen ninety-three release of their debut album and Tang parentheses thirty six chambers.

Broncos Finalizing Deal to Make Pat Shurmur New Offensive Coordinator

"Well we just talk to my class are brokers insider who told us that the deal is done with that tactic Schirmer to be the new see for the Denver Broncos official press release from the team hopefully coming sometime before the end of the week big al with Schirmer being the new offense of coordinator what do you see as the pros and cons for this this young this young offense with the very young rookie quarterback is gonna be going into your to what I'm looking for are the things that that you can give a team and that's easy to roles and I always talk about this because I believe that that's the key to winning football games in this league how can you create an easy throw a one on one getting the guy wide open like we saw Devine to Adam's last night plan for the Packers you know the Packers go with the heavy formation they run a play that look like it's going to be a post but it then it turns into a corner is a seven right and then you look up and you say all my goodness the guy has a football it's one on one coverage he makes one guy miss and any out runs the coverage that's it easy to roll okay it's not fit the ball in the window it's not a drop back play act soon getting a guide you know own a seventeen yard dig route it's none of those things it's making the girls that the good players make to wide open guys but you have to design those plays for those guys to be wide open and the quarterback shouldn't be surprised when a wide open and when they're not wide open take the ball and run it that's what the good teams in the NFL do that's how you win football games in this business by getting your quarterback easy throws that you can feel good about and we didn't do that especially not against the Kansas City Chiefs are we rich gang real and I hate to see guys getting fired trust me it's it's not it's it's you know nobody wants to see that I wish there was a way that he could have stayed on and work with the quarterbacks something of that nature but maybe it's maybe it's too muddy if he's in Rome but you know it just we just have to have a change in and once again the greatest throws in the NFL aren't necessarily the ones that are forty M. fifty yards down the field like we saw this weekend but we also saw we also saw Patrick my homes we were out to the running back I think it was Williams out of the backfield on what looked like to be a six star pass it ended up being a seventeen yard touchdown the design of the play against the covers that was played was perfect and the guy had a free run to the end zone I mean those are the plays that you expect out of a great offensive coordinator and that's certainly what I'm looking forward Pat Shurmur who spent a lot of time with Andy Reid and Philadelphia I take it I think he was there for at least ten seasons with Andy Reid going from offense of line coach tidy and coats two quarterbacks coach so he understands the offense it's complete and of course in that Minnesota offense that's what we have to go last because that's where he was calling plays exclusively you look at that team and what they were able to do and the way that they brought on Adam Thielen out of no where to become a star well you know that he understands what kind of receipt what the receivers need to look like and not how they need to run there are so many different ways that we can look at this as be an improvement to be an improvement to what we had last year in part of it believe it or not Joe Joe is evaluating players for the upcoming draft that's a big big part of it because trust me there is a common formula to run in this offense and really make it work Stefon Diggs is the guy that blows the doors off of the defense is for the Minnesota Vikings before we and you look at back at Pat Shurmur when he was with Andy Reid it was the son Jackson now what is a in to read as he has he'll explosive wires see what to add to re kill who blows the doors off so I'm almost guaranteed you I'm almost guaranteeing you were going to find a guy that can blow the doors off of the defense in round one or two of this year's NFL draft that's how you make that all things work do you have a guy that can a workhorse guy who can catch the balls and make it happen that's called sudden but we need one of those guys that is scary says that blows the doors off the defense the evaluation process of what that guy looks like I trust Pat Shurmur more than I do John Elway to

Vikings' Stefon Diggs Addresses Trade Rumors Ahead of Giants Match-Up

"Have a an epidemic in the NFL Stefan digs now is letting it be known that because times are getting tough in the modern fell times get tough trade me. Get me out of here. I'm not happy be I don't need to play out to my contract. I will be sick. I will go home and then I will try to force your hand to trade me. He came back to the team. After missing a practice yesterday digs eggs and this isn't a season in which we know everything has gone badly right now going badly right now for Minnesota's offense very small sample size by the way but he is not getting targeted targeted the way he did lassie's not even close Stefan digs and on the same week that Adam Phelan called out the offense and the quarterback leading kirk cousins weirdly publicly apologizing to Adam feeling the other wide receiver then lets it be known that he wants Outta town so Minnesota has a lot of issues right now and it's kind of an interesting time for them to go face a giants team that despite back to back wins known is GonNa Confuse this defense with the eighty six giants Minnesota if they just figure out some type of game plan and finds a balance of their offense you would think they should be able to move the ball and if they don't and Danny dimes James and I don't think say quantum Barclays playing but apparently he is he is possible they says not practicing as of Thursday but apparently he's such a superman that it's he's getting close but even without Saquon Barkley at the Vikings find a way to to win this game and if they look bad doing it we might have a mutiny on our hands with the old Viking

Stefon Diggs on trade rumors: “There's truth to all rumors”

"But we will start in Minnesota we we stefan digs and his current situation the vikings white out missed practice for undisclosed reasons yesterday and it led to speculation about his future with the Vikings today today dig said he has not requested a trade but did admit there is true to all the reverse. He said that he's unsure. His agent has talked to the Vikings and what has transpired can't sit up here like everything is everything is okay his obviously not but but I can't say at this point it just trying to work. Do I feel like there's no matter how you sit up. I won't be saved speaking on that off off. Everybody's known to be rethinking the next one that team guy always predicting but for myself. I never made it just about me. I've never been that kind of so my resume persona kind of speaks for itself. I've never been to got to kind of be off. Be like me me me and wanting to have success. I WANNA have team. Success is always what I've been pushing them always without push so my language was stated saying whether I'm giving many opportunities not not not a lot. Have you asked for trade if you haven't communicated anything more so the conversation has been about teen and China had success food ah I haven't spoke to them you gotTa talk to play Sunday. hopefully then you play. I like football. I want to be part of I want to the apart play football on Sundays on CBS practice today you anticipate house and I feel a little bit better as to Yeah Courtney Cronin joins us now from Minnesota. She was there when dig spoke and Courtney. You heard him say. There's there's truth to all those rumors. What's your take a what exactly he met. Wendy he kept repeating that phrase multiple times throughout his media the reliability this morning and I think that that's him not completely closing the door that we're all he did say when I asked him straight out dicky requested trade you want lots traded and he said I had not communicated that and then obviously you have to follow up about his agent. You didn't fully close the door saying that no. I wanted to be your completely like that. Is there some uproot that there might be some validity what we've been hearing me Hainan seeing that this has been something that's been brewing probably for a little bit of time now so. I think what you were. Each phrase wants to continue to say it while he did say walk this year and he's been here for five years. He loves everything about teammates. I think he's questioned what you have to bring his question about whether he's feel value. He does have a role in the offense but it is minutes role than it was US last year and obviously you've been obsolete. I come in the steam because that kind of brings things to a head to where we're at right now. Wondering are we've seen the end of the era. Is this the beginning of something that we should be more concerned with or just going to blow over eventually because feel there's fire. I'm Greg it courtney. Thank you yeah I think in this case. It's fair to say there is some fire that smokes coming from Joe Joe. I'll ask you first of all about attentional trade market for digs if he were to move on well. I spoke to a team last night that I know would specifically definitely be interested in step on just because they expressly told me that and then last night I think an inquiry was made in they came back and said that they were told that Stefan was not going to be on the market and I see we're hearing during that today in terms of other people following up on the reporting what we do know about stuff on digs at here's a career worst three catches per game and five targets per game and and even though he's coming off a career-best production with over a thousand receiving yards and nine touchdowns his production in the two years prior to this season. It's still been under Adam Adam feeling and you know he's working with the new offensive coordinator and Kevin Stefanski and prior to that obviously was Pat Shurmur. WHO's the head coach of the giant so I think talk. You're looking at a receiver who feels like he can do more. You might even feel like he's the best receiver on the team and he's right. He is not a Mimi Guy in terms terms of how he portrays himself publicly. I've covered him a lot of times. I was there for the Minnesota miracle of so many of his games and by comparison you would definitely not put him out there but off in that sense but just listening to his words and the fact that he did leave the door open with certain things that he said he is letting you know that he is frustrated in that also think that that it fits within the era of athletes right now this season and last season being more vocal about their situations taking more control of where they feel like they can best flourish and I'm getting the hint although I have not talked to him directly or his agent that he's trying to let people know that he feels like everything is not completely kosher dill. It's funny you say that Joe Joe and I think Steve Young. You made the point two weeks ago with the genie sort of being out of the bottle I this is another example of a player. I think trying to sort take some control of a situation a situation that from his perspective is not working the way he'd like it to work yeah. I think it's a direct reflection on the quarterback play that that's been in Minnesota. Obviously his diminished role isn't because of injury or lack of talent. It's because the quarterback isn't getting everybody the ball right. Now I think last ask year when you see how everyone was involved in Adam dealing was getting the football step on digs with everyone was happy. Everyone was performing. Everyone was getting the ball. There were schematically. There were in situations where both of these guys were making big plays and that's what you're used to seeing from the Vikings and I think this year those players just aren't there and there's plays aren't there for those plays aren't necessarily there for Stefan digs for any of those past catches right now because of the quarterback play and I don't know if that's schematics. I don't know if that's simply the quarterback but I think he's unhappy with how he's being utilized and he's taking things into his own hands and to his credit. I've known for some time as well. He's never ever been me guy. He's never been so. This isn't necessarily about putting himself before the team I think at some point he has to look at his career and where he wants to go trajectory wise and make a decision and listening to talk. You almost felt like he had a little bit of emotion coming out when saying I'm a team guy and I'm not a me guy and I'm just trying to put the team. I listen as a football player. I know you can you've experienced this. We only have a certain amount of years and we only have a certain amount of time that we can go out there and play the game so you don't WanNa feel like that. You're wasting a season and I think that's why a lot of guys once they realize look. There's no chance for us to get to the playoffs this year. There's no chance that we're GONNA win in this division this year and teams on the flip side of that. I understand okay yeah. This season is pretty much over so let's try and get some value in some of these guys that are good football players and that's why we're seeing that more this year than maybe in years past. I thought the most interesting thing that he said Real quick when you're asking me if he was going to practice US I don't know I hope so. That's that was the less you know that he has expressed something to the team and he's maybe worried about how they reacted to. How that's what I'm thinking yeah I mean he he clearly was not one hundred percent sure you're next and Steve Young joins US now Steve. We have talked about this before given our conversations and I'm GONNA assume zoom. This doesn't surprise you that we're seeing another example of someone stepping up and saying this isn't working for me no players who are going to continue to demand what's going to be interesting. Is there is is there going to be a market and I think the Jalen Ramsey and if this situation does go forward and these guys are able to get to new teams I I think the ice will break because there are a number I mean everybody in the League has had moments star player now this star players that can do this because they're they're not. GonNa risk career other. You know non star players are not going to risk their careers to demand a trade this cut and so the star players going to say. I know there's a better place for me. I know there's a quarterback it'll throw me the ball and others office coordinator that will take care of me and that's going to continue to grow and I think this is a this is really the really important time Wendy right now awesome because of Jalen Ramsey doesn't get moved and digs does not get moved and the kind of kind of chill this whole thing and can stop it then this market will not not be kind of a burgeoning market but if they start to be able to be moved then everyone the legal realize I can make my way out of here and I wanna be somebody somewhere else and to the to the point just I it was victor. Rodman raw made it but the average career is three point two years in the NFL players are very aware of it. If I'm going to be great I'm going to be great right now. Well there's no question is a pivotal point in the league. We'll see digs by the way signed a five-year seventy two million dollars extension last year the thirteenth highest paid receiver currently in the

Brown Sugar: A Tribute to Hip-Hop

"I saw brown sugar. I was completely taken over by the music of course it's the first thing you notice about the movie the wonderful wonderful tribute to hip hop and owed love letter however you want to call it hip hop that permeates every scene in movie this because eight chess turn but the thing that carried me through watching it over and over and over again was the relationship between Sydney played by Sonali Johnathan and trae played by Taye Diggs. Their relationship is as equals not something I grew up watching calms. It's not something that I saw men and and women respecting each other to other as if they both believed each other to be intelligent equal human beings and their relationship gave me hope for what love could be wasted US whereas Philip Too potlucking at the block party you remember. I beat machine boy. You thought You d nice not our eight. Oh eight this simplicity provides a fine line between eloquence. That's implying. This has a dope. Line was my first published article. I can't wait for you to come out when you left I went out to. La Times every Wednesday a Yo com go to the park and read. It made me feel closeted love brown sugar. We begin the movie with Sydney entry as kids first learning and falling in love with hip hop and this love of hip hop is what connects them throughout their life. Sydney becomes a writer and editor of powerhouse hip. Hop Magazine Andrey gets into the recording recording industry. He's the man behind the artists and he gets into this field because of his love of hip hop but both Sydney Andrey are struggling to reconcile this. It's ideallic love that they have of hip hop with the reality. Did you sign a new act without consulting drake. I saw and I had to sign the man Never Messina. Shit like that a black and white rapid duah. I know they go here Kamal Man. You know that's just a gimmick these guys they have like no skills just straight it up. Why now I saw last night a real MC. This cat deserves a shot. He came with the real original real real hip hop given them. I'm trying to sell records to people will actually buy them so I need a boob. Who's going to be able to give me that M. T. V. rotation baby now been akin ran and ten the heat of future Babe Eminem. He paved the way they gonNA be like Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder Paul McCartney and and Michael Michael Jackson. Are you serious. Yes you really want me to do this. If you want to work for a millennium records that's what we do here. We make hits as we see hip hop grow and change we also see Sydney Andrey grow and change and it was this intertwining of love and hip hop that really spoke to poet Nick George in fact when lead producer. Maya emailed him to talk about brown sugar trigger he had this to say when I first saw brown sugar. Both love and hip hop. were new things to me. I thought I understood both I also thought their utility in my life was simple and yet through this movie. It became apparent that both are unpredictable. One of the major themes is evolution and allowing a thing to grow beyond what we thought we knew you about it.
