"I think one episode Angela's really grumpy and I improvised the line and Kevin had Greek food again today. You know, like that's just ruined her day. So every once in a while, we did get to do that. But what you're seeing was written. And it's so crisp. And it's so clean. And I think it set the table for so many copycat shows to come because it really was a very specific sense of humor. And it's so funny because like a modern show like Herbert enthusiasm that's all improv. It's very specific. It appeals to a specific audience. Why do you think The Office appealed so broadly? I think it's because it's relatable in the fact that whether you're on a school campus, because you know a lot of kids in middle school watch the show, they come up to me 8th graders, you know, with dunder mifflin shirts. Oh yeah, Xander's totally into it right now. Yeah, it's really wild. It's really huge in middle school. But whether you're in your homeroom classroom, or you're office workspace, you probably know a Dwight, right? There's probably an Angela, the drives you crazy, and we all have a boss that can be ridiculous. And I think those kind of relationships and dynamics exist whether you work at a hospital or you're an airline pilot or you're in 8th grade and you're have this class with someone who drives you crazy. I think it's the relationships. How much of Angela? Was you Angela? What were your favorite parts about playing? Are you already talked about how she's very tight and very feisty? But what was your favorite part of her? Oh, you know, I just loved how put out she was with everybody. It just went cracked me up. Just someone saying good morning, she'd be like, ugh. And that's just so fun to play someone who just is instantly annoyed for no reason. I just loved that. You know, I loved our accounting nook. We were like our own little family within the big office family. Oscar was kind of Angela's work husband and they would bicker, but ultimately they care for each other. And then I've always said that Kevin was kind of like our idiot son. I'm sure you really feel good about that too. Even though he's a fake character, but I think that's the part. I think that's the kind of interesting part about it was that you guys played characters of your own names. So it was very confusing and here's people. People ask me this a lot. Why did you have your own name? So here are the characters that had their own name. Angela, Oscar, creed, I think years later. It's really his name, creed Bratton. Yeah, creed. Amazing musician. The grassroots guys created the coolest. And I asked Greg, why do we have our own names? And we were new characters that weren't in the BBC version and he was just like, oh, I just kind of were like, yeah, okay, we'll just use their names. So I'm like, maybe just came out of laziness, isn't it so crazy? It's crazy. I feel like I saw a Norm Macdonald interviewed one time and they were like, why are you always playing norm? And he goes, and of course, his delivery was so spot on. I guess he did a show where they gave him a different name and he kept forgetting to answer to the name and they were like, oh, we'll just call you norm. They said, by the way, you're going to make a call and you're going to actually make your lines if you don't have to worry about another name as well. I suppose that makes takes a little bit of the guessing game on. Yeah. Did you meet Jenna at the office? Yes, we met on the pilot. Yeah. And we sort of say that we became best friends truly in the basketball episode because we had to sit next to each other on a bench and watch the guys play basketball all day. And in between takes, we just sort of told our life stories to one another and that was it. We were like, okay, I didn't expect to make that good of a friend later in life. And it was so eye opening for me that you should never like close yourself off to friendships and people just because you think, oh, you know, I'm in my 30s or 40s or 50s or whatever, that there's still people that can be so impactful that you didn't think would be in your life. What about the part of you guys continually being in the scene? See, to me, I thought that was super interesting. That it's a single camera shoot. And it can be Jim and Pam, what have you, but you're still in it. You're still in it all the time. We were everyone's background. I'll tell you what, it definitely left no room for egos because I might be having a scene with Oscar and in the background are John and rain, Steve, Jenna Phyllis, Leslie, you know what I mean? We were all there for each other. It sort of felt like group like one act play, like sort of that group theater kind of mindset of like we're only going to make our day if we're all here for each other. I think what's so interesting as well as how different you guys are. People get confused sometimes about separating the actors from who they are on screen. I mean, Steve Carell seems he's almost shy in person and he's so gregorious. As Michael. Right. What were the surprises for you as you got to know these different characters in different people on the set? Well, Steve is just such a lovely person and he's a family man. Gregarious was the word of I confused DD Gregorius. This is my sports nightmare with gregarious. Seth, I had to correct myself. I heard that. I was like, where did that sound wrong? I was like, oh God, didi Gregorius with gregarious. Okay, we're back. And we're back. Steve is a family man, and he just delights in his life as a dad. And that was my favorite thing is on Monday to sort of download with him about the weekend. I'll never forget one time he walked up to Jen and I and goes, guys, I Nancy and I found the best target. Oh my gosh. You got to go with your kids. It's like, it's kind of a drive, but there's a carousel. Like it's in a mall, like the kids will love it. And I was like, I love that Steve just told me about this great target he found. Am I wrong? Or is Nancy corral the funniest person on the planet? She's hilarious. Yeah, she's a mass hole. So she's from the relationship. You're both from Massachusetts. Exactly. Yeah, we have a relationship because we like to out Massachusetts each other and photographs. And she'll post something and I'm like, I had that rugby shirt when I went to great.

If we're going to be blunt, you don't really say that about a young guy who's been a two time all star for you in three seasons. And look, 2020 was not a fair shake for laboratories. You don't give somebody a 42 game sample size at shortstop to determine if they're the future of the position. We all saw how didi Gregorius is initial tenure at the position when he was filling in for Derek tutor, wasn't great. Made a lot of errors really wasn't just wasn't what anybody was expecting. Then he turned it around and became one of the better players on the team for his entire run. But to give to kind of shit talk labor Torres in that manner in the off season to I guess think it's gonna motivate him. It clearly didn't. And then to not diagnose properly before the trade deadline and be like, look, this isn't working, like we gave him over a hundred games now. I think at that point, what was it? It was like a hundred and it was like a 110 games or something. That's probably enough to determine whether or not the guy can feel the position. He didn't. It's not like he was ping ponging between the IL. He was he had very consistent playing time up until he actually hit the IL in August. Yankee should have made the decision then to give him two months at second base to kind of more so cement himself there and also also give time for the other guys who are now gonna be jumping all around the infield if this is the plan you're going for and said you do it with two and a half weeks left in the season. You're gonna tell me that's not gonna fuck with labor towards his head because now he just he just upended the entire infield. He and his head thinks, oh, great, like, I couldn't perform now the entire infield plan has been upended because of me. Now we have a very important two and a half week stretch that's going to determine our entire season like just mismanagement all around. I understand he is to blame he hasn't been good..

"He was playing like one of the best young up and coming players. In all Major league baseball looked like he had a chance to be a 300 hitter in a dirty home run guy. He's neither one of those right now. Last year, they moved them back to shortstop because they let Didi Gregorius skull His preferential position. It's what he played coming through the miners and the position that he thinks of himself as well. He's only an okay shortstop at best defensively, and by the way, his offense has gone in the tank, and this year he's on pace did not even hit 10 home runs. He was the guy who looked like he could be a 25 to 30 home Run guy. So Yankee fans if you can explain to me what's wrong with Didi Gregorius? If you still think Garcia Lee needs a little bit more seasoning, or if I made Rosario has a return to 2018 former 19 form and kind of excited you still got him in arbitration for 2022. And you could still if you wanted, having been 2023 before he becomes a free agent. Now comparing the two Presario two Gregorius. Let's take the numbers out of the equation. Um, last year, Rosario hit the ball harder than Didi Gregorius. He made more solid contact than Gregorius last season. He is a much better athlete at this point in terms of sprint speed ability to steal a base. A DD joked with us when he was last on the show that, um, he referenced when he got his first major, like eight years ago, he stole a base. I think that same inning and he said those were the days where I stole basis and and he was kind of laughing about it. Defensively, there are almost a wash. If you look at last year's metrics from defensive runs saved or outs above average, they're about even maybe a slight tick advantage. Toe dd mean at one point scouts thought Presario could be a gold Glover. He hasn't played that way in the field. The last two years doesn't mean he won't get there at some point, but he's clearly not a gold. Glover right now. Um, we're sorry. Oh, strikes out more than DD. Now That's a check in the other box for needy a lot more. I mean, he I think I wrote it down today. We're here It is. Rosario struck out about 23% of the time. Right about the major league average. He's probably more of a second basement, but he's played shortstop. I mean in his career, that's been his position. I'm looking here. He's played more shortstop anything else in his career. But you wonder on a guy like that. Who had the season he had in 2019 again. 24 homers at shortstop, 33 doubles and 40 stolen base to Caesar. He led the National League in steals back in 2016. He stole 62. He said. Seasons where he stole 62 23 35 21 40. 24 was his most home runs in 2019, but I wonder, and I'm just spitballing with numbers. What? What It would look like if he said the VR and I'm looking at something for one year. But what if he said, like, Let's go. Do the math here on the fly. Let's do two years at 14 million, and we'll give you $2 million buyout in the second year. So you get seven million the first year And if we walk away from you Because Garcia is ready, we'll give you two million is the buyout. So you get nine million per for playing one season with us? He gets the re establishing a market. He'll be what I say 30 in May, so he's not exactly young. He's not exactly old. And he would be somebody would be looking to re establish things playing in a hitter's park. You wouldn't have to give up a player for him. We know the issues with the offensive year ago they hit 2 12 1 of the worst offenses in the history of rights baseball. We know what the obvious upgrade was for this team in the off season to get a shortstop. The musical chairs We talked about last night it spends and it spends in it. It stops and seats or grabbed, and now it stops and and the Reds are or left looking, and they don't have anybody. Phillies also need somebody. That leaves Didi Gregorius as The loan for the most part, the lone free agent option at shortstop. They're certainly trade options is a possibility. But I think we all agree and the Reds have made this clear. That's why they're pursuing shortstop Jose Garcia. They love him. They just don't love him enough Right now. The put him in a position to be in everyday shortstop in Major League baseball in 2021. They didn't really want to do it last year, they eventually had to. They did it, and it was tough to watch. It's got a glove. There's no question about that. He batted 67 times. Last year, he struck out 26 times He hit 1 94. He played in 24 games. He walked once. You want once in 24 games. Again. They love him. Perfect, perfect world. He is their opening day shortstop of 2022. But no team with hopes dreams, aspirations of being in contention in 2021. Is going to feel the team with Jose Garcia at shortstop. The young man has not taken in it bad at double A. He hasn't taken it back at Triple A They jumped him from high a last year and three men. The deep end of major league baseball, double A is the most important development level of a minor league baseball player. He blew right past that to the major leagues. Kyle Farmer. Everybody likes He's not an everyday shortstop. He's just not. I mean, they nontendered him to begin with. They sign him to a split contract. He makes exit the place in the majors this year he makes except spends a place in the minors This year. He's versatile. He can play multiple positions, but he's not an everyday shortstop, and he certainly can't hit well enough. He certainly can't hit right handed pitching well enough to be considered a legitimate everyday shortstop in Major League baseball. Oh, by the way, he's played Ah, just short of 90 innings at the position, and he will be 30 in the upcoming season again. If you have hopes and dreams and aspirations of a contending in a division you don't have Kyle firmer as your everyday shortstop. So riddle me this Batman. One of the Reds do Jon Heyman says the number is looking at two years. 30 million. Sell Jim Boden today on the athletic guest. Two years 24 million. Again back to that perfect world. The Reds could get somebody plug him in for this year is a stopgap the bridge and then hand things off the Jose Garcia in 2022. From that standpoint, the Reds have not been tied to a least I have not seen many reports of them tied to our interest in one Andrelton Simmons. We know this. They need a shortstop. I would think DeeDee and the other the other than the factory about DD he was coming off of Tommy John surgery, so I think it's fair to say although he'll be 31 in February.
