"didi gregorius" Discussed on The Rich Eisen Show

"I think one episode Angela's really grumpy and I improvised the line and Kevin had Greek food again today. You know, like that's just ruined her day. So every once in a while, we did get to do that. But what you're seeing was written. And it's so crisp. And it's so clean. And I think it set the table for so many copycat shows to come because it really was a very specific sense of humor. And it's so funny because like a modern show like Herbert enthusiasm that's all improv. It's very specific. It appeals to a specific audience. Why do you think The Office appealed so broadly? I think it's because it's relatable in the fact that whether you're on a school campus, because you know a lot of kids in middle school watch the show, they come up to me 8th graders, you know, with dunder mifflin shirts. Oh yeah, Xander's totally into it right now. Yeah, it's really wild. It's really huge in middle school. But whether you're in your homeroom classroom, or you're office workspace, you probably know a Dwight, right? There's probably an Angela, the drives you crazy, and we all have a boss that can be ridiculous. And I think those kind of relationships and dynamics exist whether you work at a hospital or you're an airline pilot or you're in 8th grade and you're have this class with someone who drives you crazy. I think it's the relationships. How much of Angela? Was you Angela? What were your favorite parts about playing? Are you already talked about how she's very tight and very feisty? But what was your favorite part of her? Oh, you know, I just loved how put out she was with everybody. It just went cracked me up. Just someone saying good morning, she'd be like, ugh. And that's just so fun to play someone who just is instantly annoyed for no reason. I just loved that. You know, I loved our accounting nook. We were like our own little family within the big office family. Oscar was kind of Angela's work husband and they would bicker, but ultimately they care for each other. And then I've always said that Kevin was kind of like our idiot son. I'm sure you really feel good about that too. Even though he's a fake character, but I think that's the part. I think that's the kind of interesting part about it was that you guys played characters of your own names. So it was very confusing and here's people. People ask me this a lot. Why did you have your own name? So here are the characters that had their own name. Angela, Oscar, creed, I think years later. It's really his name, creed Bratton. Yeah, creed. Amazing musician. The grassroots guys created the coolest. And I asked Greg, why do we have our own names? And we were new characters that weren't in the BBC version and he was just like, oh, I just kind of were like, yeah, okay, we'll just use their names. So I'm like, maybe just came out of laziness, isn't it so crazy? It's crazy. I feel like I saw a Norm Macdonald interviewed one time and they were like, why are you always playing norm? And he goes, and of course, his delivery was so spot on. I guess he did a show where they gave him a different name and he kept forgetting to answer to the name and they were like, oh, we'll just call you norm. They said, by the way, you're going to make a call and you're going to actually make your lines if you don't have to worry about another name as well. I suppose that makes takes a little bit of the guessing game on. Yeah. Did you meet Jenna at the office? Yes, we met on the pilot. Yeah. And we sort of say that we became best friends truly in the basketball episode because we had to sit next to each other on a bench and watch the guys play basketball all day. And in between takes, we just sort of told our life stories to one another and that was it. We were like, okay, I didn't expect to make that good of a friend later in life. And it was so eye opening for me that you should never like close yourself off to friendships and people just because you think, oh, you know, I'm in my 30s or 40s or 50s or whatever, that there's still people that can be so impactful that you didn't think would be in your life. What about the part of you guys continually being in the scene? See, to me, I thought that was super interesting. That it's a single camera shoot. And it can be Jim and Pam, what have you, but you're still in it. You're still in it all the time. We were everyone's background. I'll tell you what, it definitely left no room for egos because I might be having a scene with Oscar and in the background are John and rain, Steve, Jenna Phyllis, Leslie, you know what I mean? We were all there for each other. It sort of felt like group like one act play, like sort of that group theater kind of mindset of like we're only going to make our day if we're all here for each other. I think what's so interesting as well as how different you guys are. People get confused sometimes about separating the actors from who they are on screen. I mean, Steve Carell seems he's almost shy in person and he's so gregorious. As Michael. Right. What were the surprises for you as you got to know these different characters in different people on the set? Well, Steve is just such a lovely person and he's a family man. Gregarious was the word of I confused DD Gregorius. This is my sports nightmare with gregarious. Seth, I had to correct myself. I heard that. I was like, where did that sound wrong? I was like, oh God, didi Gregorius with gregarious. Okay, we're back. And we're back. Steve is a family man, and he just delights in his life as a dad. And that was my favorite thing is on Monday to sort of download with him about the weekend. I'll never forget one time he walked up to Jen and I and goes, guys, I Nancy and I found the best target. Oh my gosh. You got to go with your kids. It's like, it's kind of a drive, but there's a carousel. Like it's in a mall, like the kids will love it. And I was like, I love that Steve just told me about this great target he found. Am I wrong? Or is Nancy corral the funniest person on the planet? She's hilarious. Yeah, she's a mass hole. So she's from the relationship. You're both from Massachusetts. Exactly. Yeah, we have a relationship because we like to out Massachusetts each other and photographs. And she'll post something and I'm like, I had that rugby shirt when I went to great.

"And he was out of shape. Didn't give him a vote of confidence. Really just talk shit on him. If we're going to be blunt, you don't really say that about a young guy who's been a two time all star for you in three seasons. And look, 2020 was not a fair shake for laboratories. You don't give somebody a 42 game sample size at shortstop to determine if they're the future of the position. We all saw how didi Gregorius is initial tenure at the position when he was filling in for Derek tutor, wasn't great. Made a lot of errors really wasn't just wasn't what anybody was expecting. Then he turned it around and became one of the better players on the team for his entire run. But to give to kind of shit talk labor Torres in that manner in the off season to I guess think it's gonna motivate him. It clearly didn't. And then to not diagnose properly before the trade deadline and be like, look, this isn't working, like we gave him over a hundred games now. I think at that point, what was it? It was like a hundred and it was like a 110 games or something. That's probably enough to determine whether or not the guy can feel the position. He didn't. It's not like he was ping ponging between the IL. He was he had very consistent playing time up until he actually hit the IL in August. Yankee should have made the decision then to give him two months at second base to kind of more so cement himself there and also also give time for the other guys who are now gonna be jumping all around the infield if this is the plan you're going for and said you do it with two and a half weeks left in the season. You're gonna tell me that's not gonna fuck with labor towards his head because now he just he just upended the entire infield. He and his head thinks, oh, great, like, I couldn't perform now the entire infield plan has been upended because of me. Now we have a very important two and a half week stretch that's going to determine our entire season like just mismanagement all around. I understand he is to blame he hasn't been good..

"He was playing like one of the best young up and coming players. In all Major league baseball looked like he had a chance to be a 300 hitter in a dirty home run guy. He's neither one of those right now. Last year, they moved them back to shortstop because they let Didi Gregorius skull His preferential position. It's what he played coming through the miners and the position that he thinks of himself as well. He's only an okay shortstop at best defensively, and by the way, his offense has gone in the tank, and this year he's on pace did not even hit 10 home runs. He was the guy who looked like he could be a 25 to 30 home Run guy. So Yankee fans if you can explain to me what's wrong with Didi Gregorius? I'd love to know White Sox have opened up some distance between themselves and the Indians. In the A L Central. In the top of the hour. We're going to get our buddy Ken Carmen, come on. Talk from Cleveland with us Cleveland Sports and that is going to include a conversation about the Indians. They've lost six in a row there now six games back. Are the Indians going to be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline? That's to be determined and the Tigers, the Royals and the twins? I think we're all out of it. They got no chance to make playoffs. What are they gonna do it the deadline. Uh, the Royals have a couple of guys the teams might be interested in if they make them available. The twins certainly do. And I know Josh Donaldson name has been bandied about and that the Mets have already had conversations with the Twins about trading him. The twins are definitely going to be sellers. Baggage and Royals. If they sell. What players do you think would actually be of interest to other squats and out West? To me? It's a two team race. It's the Astros. It's the A's Aides have some injuries. Comments out right now, the key guys their leadoff hitter, Um, but they've still got a pretty good young staff Kaprielian pitch well again yesterday. I think they're going to hang in there with the Astros. That's certainly going to hang in the wild card race. The Mariners that above 500. It didn't done a good job don't know if that means they're going to be able to get into a playoff battle. But to be above 500 is somewhat impressive, and the Angels are right at 500 trying to hold down the court forward until my truck comes back Trout supposed to be back middle of this upcoming month, he was on the 60 Day DL, so he's not even eligible. I know he's already working out, so it looks good for him to jump back in. In the second half, but we gotta wait till we see it over in the National League. Yeah, the match at 3.5 games up. They got display against the Yankees yesterday. They are above 500. Despite the fact that there are about 500, there are only plus five in one differential. So far, you've got teams like the Dodgers, who are plots 121, the Astros, who are plus 1 37. You had teams that are more than 100 on the plus minus side. The Metro in first place, even though they were only plus five. The Braves in second place. 3.5 games back are plus 16 on the run differential. How do you do something like that? You get great pitching. That out, does mediocre hitting because the Mets are the second lowest scoring team in baseball so far this year, they haven't gotten to the 81 game. Ark. There 43 37. So they're one of those teams. It's lagging a little bit behind have a lot of games. In the second half. I like their chances, though. In the division Brewers are up seven games. You can write that one home brew is going to win that division and.

"The next pitch about two inches further, and he swings Just with that 12 balls, two strikes as a fastball down low. Two balls, two strikes and McCutchen. Graham. The kick here comes swinging a liner off of diagrams back and bounces back up the middle past Peraza in his center and a base runner for the Phillies. Solid contact and right off the back side of Jacob to crumb, and it goes into center. And he could have with that one swing become the M V P of this ballgame if it somehow knocked the Graham out of the game. That looked like it. Got him right in the tailbone. I don't know if it got him in the cushion. Of the buttocks. It looked like it kind of got him right in that. Bottom of the spine. Yeah, seems to be okay. Luis Rojas, Skipper. Stepped up to the top step to see if they needed to check on him. But the Graham not even Hinting any looks towards the dugout direction. So he'll go right back to work after Luke Williams. 3 24 for Luke Williams with the home run McCutchen at first one out no score to ground from the stretch. The pitch. Basketball down and away backhanded by James McCann. Ball one on Williams, the rookie Third round pick by the Phillies back in 2015. Making his ninth start with Philadelphia and at his contracts elected back in the early part of June. Right handed batter. Rest that bad on his right shoulder. One. Oh swing and a miss late on the fastball, Even 101 and one You look at these Phillies Roxy and you know guys on the injured list. Jean Segura with a growing Didi Gregorius with an elbow has been out since May, 12th They are missing some players. They're hoping to get those guys back. Soon. Instagram for the belt. Williams waits. Long pause by the ground runner goes 11 pitch strike called Throw Down to second. McCutchen dives in and steals second base. The ball gets away from the second baseman Parra's into shallow center. It's backed up by Albert Almora Jr. But Andrew McCutchen with steel and the Phillies have a runner in scoring position with one out. Had a great jump on that. It was a pretty good pitch for me, Canda. Handle and throw on the outer third fastball. It appeared and you know the velocity of Jacob program. It's going to get there pretty quickly as he pitches upper nineties and another stolen base for Andrew McCutchen. The Phillies have been really good. Terms of stolen bases this year, fourth in the National League in their success rate 88% coming into this one today. Number four for McCutchen on the year. Look back from the Graham, The 1 to 2 Williams swinging. A miss struck him out with a fastball, elevated fastball and the second strikeout for Jacob deGrom. Two outs but coaching at second base. "Season off season and 160 whatever games a year. Makes it even mortgage more of a grind for baseball players. No question. I mean back when I was when I was playing, Um especially when I first started. You couldn't work out 24 7 and you know every day of the year because you have to work another job. The minimum salary when I first got the big leagues and 75 was 14,500 So even though it's you know, we're not 50 years removed from that it still it still wasn't a whole lot of money could to make it through a whole year. So you had to work other dogs. Nowadays, everything is the players have paid so much momentum Salaries over half a million. Um, you have the opportunity to work out your round and that's what these guys that's why they're throwing harder. I'm faster. They're stronger. And and I think that's where they're like some of the danger of these guys that they're so strong so so hard. Um you just It's just scary. I I honestly can't believe that Bryce Survived that without injuries that we know we don't know, for sure Beauty is going to need any X rays on his ribs. He said. He was feeling better yesterday, so that's a good time. But I mean, you're right that the careers are short and you do everything you can and get a smudge of length as you can in your career and hope for the best. But when, when you get pitches like that in a career that that's that's just words. You just have to stop in the Wait a minute. This this isn't right. I actually think that the manager of the Cardinals should have pulled him after Dee Dee grew. Cory's got got hit. He should just realized. Okay, You know you're not on your a game today. It was a right handed batter next to got a base hit. If I remember the go ahead run came in. In that particular case, But you know now this picture's futures on the line here, too. Because if he has one more outing like this anytime soon, he's probably gonna be sent down to the minors, right. Even if he doesn't sign he, it's in his head. He knows And I really think Him hitting a glorious with the very next pitch with him wanting to throw a pitch inside, But saying, Okay, I don't want to make a mistake. But I don't want to hit him Steve Cross and taught me a long time ago. But when pitching the thought precedes the action, he's probably thinking, OK, I can't get this guy. That's what you're gonna do, because he's thinking that that I think that's probably what happened. And it's a young pitcher and experience and you you start thinking that way and always said You're not. You're not pitching your game. And I think the other thing you do what he did. You can have a mental effect on him for the rest of his life. He he might not building through another strike. You know the rest of this year or ever again. I mean, I'm not saying he won't. But those of the things that can happen they can creep into your mind and can just destroy your mentally We're keep you from from from pitching anymore. Yeah, well, there is the three. There is a three hitter rule where pitchers need to be to pitch to at least three batters. And now the ups all huddled together after after both players got hit Price. Harper and Didi Gregorius got hit. And so I I felt watching it. I did not feel it was intentional. You didn't think it was intentional, Girardi said he didn't think it was intentional. You know, usually if you think it's intentional, those benches are gonna empty and we're gonna have a brawl, right? Yeah. Yep, that's gonna happen. But I think again, even even you know that the couple comments were made about old school baseball. We're old school. Baseball is you throw up around a guy's head, there's gonna be retaliation. And that's just a no, No. If you want to throw it, somebody you hit him in the back, hit him in the butt, Get him in the hip, you know, and ribs but up around the head, whether it's intentional or not, that there's no excuse for that. And I think Sort of thing Varieties thing was, you know there is a three battle rule, but the young parents could have rejected him and honestly, I think they're manager probably wish they would have rejected him after two batters, but I guess Gunther just decided to go with the rules and you gotta face another hitter. At the expense of the next hitter who knows where the ball is going to go? And I think that was with your artist. Point was, Hey, this guy hurt somebody, but whether it's intentional or not, he's not time. I don't think he is. But He could hurt somebody. But in the career, let's let's put an end to this right now, and I think that's what his point was that we got to stop this. Yeah. All right. "Could have a beer opening day shortstop and play this season and that if Garcia is ready You could non tender, restore eo and just walk away from him like they did. Kirk a. Sally and and Goodwin and Archie Bradley. Guys like that. If you still think Garcia Lee needs a little bit more seasoning, or if I made Rosario has a return to 2018 former 19 form and kind of excited you still got him in arbitration for 2022. And you could still if you wanted, having been 2023 before he becomes a free agent. Now comparing the two Presario two Gregorius. Let's take the numbers out of the equation. Um, last year, Rosario hit the ball harder than Didi Gregorius. He made more solid contact than Gregorius last season. He is a much better athlete at this point in terms of sprint speed ability to steal a base. A DD joked with us when he was last on the show that, um, he referenced when he got his first major, like eight years ago, he stole a base. I think that same inning and he said those were the days where I stole basis and and he was kind of laughing about it. Defensively, there are almost a wash. If you look at last year's metrics from defensive runs saved or outs above average, they're about even maybe a slight tick advantage. Toe dd mean at one point scouts thought Presario could be a gold Glover. He hasn't played that way in the field. The last two years doesn't mean he won't get there at some point, but he's clearly not a gold. Glover right now. Um, we're sorry. Oh, strikes out more than DD. Now That's a check in the other box for needy a lot more. I mean, he I think I wrote it down today. We're here It is. Rosario struck out about 23% of the time. Right about the major league average. Last year, DD struck out one struck out 12% of the time so more contact indeedy walked, walks more than Rosario. So that's not ideal, restore EOS a strikeout not much of a walk guy. But he's got better speed right now. Makes more contact hits the ball harder than go, go. Here's what else I like. Right handed back. We talked about this last night. Think that Reds lineup how lefty heavy it is. Votto most Octus you borrow and we think of thinking what Winker Akiyama and you add Gregorius to that verses. Dropping. Ahmed was sorry. Oh, in there as a right handed back. I did, man. I do. The I've got a legal pad in front of the line down the middle and the check marks on each side. You give me one year. Look see Toe. Hold that spot, son. This is your job. Go out and show us what you got. And all the while you're thinking, too, And you're talking to Jose Garcia. Hey, look. What we did to you last year was unfair. We were going to start you at double a. We're gonna get you some at bats there. Bust your tail. Put up some numbers. We're gonna boost you to triple A. We're going to see you again. You're just not ready right now. From a hitting standpoint, we truly believe you can play in the majors as his defender. But get your feet on the ground and experienced success. You're in our plans for the moment. Mom is gonna be our shortstop. For $2.4 million Now, one admitted flaw in My ointment of this explanation is I have no idea of the Indians say Heck, yeah, we'll take care. STD's Aquino, Maybe they don't Maybe the Indians want to get out. Just get rid of $2.4 million in Rosario. They've got their shortstop of the future on To me, Air STD's Aquino certainly expendable. I don't even think he has. I've had to look and see if he has options around. I just know there's no way you could argue he's there among their top four outfielders, So I'm just flipping somebody who's I've been a top four out there for a starting shortstop. Let's go. "To see what happens with Didi Gregorius because I think it's going to say a lot about how they view They're 2021 season and what their mindset is. If that makes sense back to the phones, eyes this grand Yeah. Welcome. Yeah. Uh, make that argument without former I can't have urgency, 30 years old, but Every remember listening games last year just seems like everything I did ask Anything Is that seven He's delivered looking Hey, won't be doing that. What? 330 back payment. Oh, major, five years ago. Yeah. Why? Why do you think? Why do you think that is? Well, I don't know why, well because he's not considered he's not considered capable of being an everyday player. He hit 209 last year against right handers. He's 30 years old. He is a jack of all trades, so to speak, and can be somebody off the bench for you and fill in, but he's not considered an everyday player. Because he hasn't performed like an everyday player. My art community. Did you get in the office? You know, I just feel like everything everywhere. I mean, he had He had 201 at bats last year against right handers, and he hit 209. So how much more of an opportunity at the age of 30? Would you like to give him on a team that one that made the playoffs last season? I guess is the question. The dark lord and something that you know the correct that I, You know, I got that many a backlash. Yeah, I'm sorry in his I'm sorry. I'm looking at his career numbers 201 against right handers in his career, and he's hit 209. Right? Yeah, that everything that we've asked of you he'd deliver tonight, right? But again, Great. I thank you for the phone call. You can't make it more than what he is. He's a He's a a piece on. He's a bench guy. He's an end of your roster guy. Um, that's how the Dodgers viewed him. That's how the Reds viewing. That's why the Reds have spent the offseason pursuing a shortstop, not to hand it to Kyle Farmer. So what else? Who We We were 45 minutes and we still don't have a shortstop for them them to pursue, Nick Kroll said today. Quote to mark Sheldon MLB dot com We've had competitive offers out to people that we've liked. I think we've been in on a lot of different markets to find players that fit our club. We've ended up losing out on some guys. Some things didn't go the way we were looking for, Nick Kroll told Mark Sheldon today. Crawl indicated the Reds remain interested in Gregorius quote were trying to improve the position. It's just trying to figure out the best way for our franchise to go. He did not commit to a potential contingency plan. If They don't get Gregorius. If a free agent side of her trade can be worked out, he said. There's a lot of different ways This could go. I'll give you another one. And we mentioned him last night. And this is this is down the pecking order. There's a couple other guys. Um it's not down the pecking order in unless you look at it from a possibility standpoint. Carlos Korea's a shortstop with the Astros, who's 26, who's in the final year of his deal is arbitration. He's gonna make around Ultimately 10 or $11 million. He's a free agent. The Astros lost George Springer this offseason. Korea's a wonderfully talented, but he's been injured a lot of his career when he's healthy, he's been productive. That's a one year guy, though. Like Trevor story. Um, you could say I'm a guy we mentioned last night. And this I don't know if I don't want to say scraping the barrel. Certainly he's better than that. But Jonathan v. R V I l l A R is is going to be 30 and may And he's a switch hitter. He was he was miserable last year. Split time with Miami in the Blue Jays. The Orioles had him at one point it had some decent seasons with the Orioles did nothing last year with the Blue Jays and Miami. I think he had 2 32. Um But if you go back And this happens with a lot of guys right now, because 2021 of being so miserable for so many players. You look at his last full season of 2019 in Baltimore. He played in every single game. He hit 24 home runs. He had 33 doubles and he had 40 stolen bases. Jonathan VR. He was too pricey for Baltimore. I think Baltimore was gonna owe him 8.2 million. They walked away from that did the deal and nobody wanted to pay him. That kind of money, right? I wonder, though. One. He's not a true shortstop. He's probably more of a second basement, but he's played shortstop. I mean in his career, that's been his position. I'm looking here. He's played more shortstop anything else in his career. But you wonder on a guy like that. Who had the season he had in 2019 again. 24 homers at shortstop, 33 doubles and 40 stolen base to Caesar. He led the National League in steals back in 2016. He stole 62. He said. Seasons where he stole 62 23 35 21 40. 24 was his most home runs in 2019, but I wonder, and I'm just spitballing with numbers. What? What It would look like if he said the VR and I'm looking at something for one year. But what if he said, like, Let's go. Do the math here on the fly. Let's do two years at 14 million, and we'll give you $2 million buyout in the second year. So you get seven million the first year And if we walk away from you Because Garcia is ready, we'll give you two million is the buyout. So you get nine million per for playing one season with us? He gets the re establishing a market. He'll be what I say 30 in May, so he's not exactly young. He's not exactly old. And he would be somebody would be looking to re establish things playing in a hitter's park. You wouldn't have to give up a player for him. And I think it's reasonable to think that he's not going to get in the 10 12 $14 million range Now he most assuredly would like a multiyear deal. But we don't like multiyear deals. If it was to me, even if you went, we bump it up. Let me go. Let me go to what? What if it was two years 15 million Meaning 7.5 this year. And if we walk away from you for the second year, you get a $3 Million buyout. So you get 10.5 million. That's Anderson Simmons numbers don't wanna go that high. Let me back that down. We'll go. We'll go seven and two. We'll give you nine million. If you only spend one year in Cincinnati. What would Jonathan B r se Drop a switch hitter looking to reclaim the glory passed for this team or for his career playing a hitter's park, and he could slide into the back part of that batting order. 5137491 7800 big £1.700 on a TNT to you Crave sports talk you crave it is Ukraine you crave I crave we all crave It's AU crates aboard stock Presented by Kelsey Chevrolet on 700 wlw. I've also written about the Hall of Fame. The voting process. The case for bonds and Clemens the case for Scott Rolen, and more all at 700 wlw dot All right, let's begin here and I'll open up the lines right out of the Shu. Because I want to talk some reds that was a solid hour of baseball from 6 to 7. It was predominantly Hall of Fame. Lets do reds Now you've had a chance to let it sink in and process. The fact that Marcus Simeon is out Andrelton Simmons is out. The Korean Star shortstop is out. Freddy Galvis is out. And the Reds are currently out a shortstop. We know the issues with the offensive year ago they hit 2 12 1 of the worst offenses in the history of rights baseball. We know what the obvious upgrade was for this team in the off season to get a shortstop. The musical chairs We talked about last night it spends and it spends in it. It stops and seats or grabbed, and now it stops and and the Reds are or left looking, and they don't have anybody. Phillies also need somebody. That leaves Didi Gregorius as The loan for the most part, the lone free agent option at shortstop. They're certainly trade options is a possibility. But I think we all agree and the Reds have made this clear. That's why they're pursuing shortstop Jose Garcia. They love him. They just don't love him enough Right now. The put him in a position to be in everyday shortstop in Major League baseball in 2021. They didn't really want to do it last year, they eventually had to. They did it, and it was tough to watch. It's got a glove. There's no question about that. He batted 67 times. Last year, he struck out 26 times He hit 1 94. He played in 24 games. He walked once. You want once in 24 games. Again. They love him. Perfect, perfect world. He is their opening day shortstop of 2022. But no team with hopes dreams, aspirations of being in contention in 2021. Is going to feel the team with Jose Garcia at shortstop. The young man has not taken in it bad at double A. He hasn't taken it back at Triple A They jumped him from high a last year and three men. The deep end of major league baseball, double A is the most important development level of a minor league baseball player. He blew right past that to the major leagues. Kyle Farmer. Everybody likes He's not an everyday shortstop. He's just not. I mean, they nontendered him to begin with. They sign him to a split contract. He makes exit the place in the majors this year he makes except spends a place in the minors This year. He's versatile. He can play multiple positions, but he's not an everyday shortstop, and he certainly can't hit well enough. He certainly can't hit right handed pitching well enough to be considered a legitimate everyday shortstop in Major League baseball. Oh, by the way, he's played Ah, just short of 90 innings at the position, and he will be 30 in the upcoming season again. If you have hopes and dreams and aspirations of a contending in a division you don't have Kyle firmer as your everyday shortstop. So riddle me this Batman. One of the Reds do Jon Heyman says the number is looking at two years. 30 million. Sell Jim Boden today on the athletic guest. Two years 24 million. Again back to that perfect world. The Reds could get somebody plug him in for this year is a stopgap the bridge and then hand things off the Jose Garcia in 2022. The Reds got the worst, arguably the worst production of any team in major league baseball last year at shortstop, Depending on which metric. Do you look at it was the Reds of the worst or the Pirates? The worst And if the Pirates were the words the Reds with the second worst They need a shortstop. What do you want him to do? We'll run through some scenarios is we come back and grab some of your calls? 5137491 7800, the big £1.700 on a TNT were going to learn something very interesting about this team about this ownership. What will go into your decision on where ultimately you play baseball in 2021. Let's say Something that they're a good team and a team that wants to win. So I think that's what I'm shooting for. You played for David Bell when you were in the red system. Did you enjoy your time in the red system? You you were signed when you were 17? You are a youngster. Then what did you think of your time in the Reds organization? I had a really great time when I was there. You know what? They were the first team to give you the opportunity to come to the stage and play so You know, I always thank them for that and described that time against local. So I mean, I had a really great time playing, got to know a lot of people and had a really good managers, any coaches and coaches, So I mean, and that they helped me a lot to improve my game T o till today, you know, so I talked to some of them toe. No. You always need that little reminder What to do to keep staying on their good fat? Did he take me back September 9th 2000 and 12. What do you remember about your mate? Your first major league hit? Whatever you know, I know it was the infield hit. Sure, ground really short and in the hole. That was when I had a little bit of speed. You're in the starting lineup and your bad in between Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto. What? What? What was that experience like it as a major leaguer for the first time. You know, it's funny, You know, I always joked around with Brandon. You know, he talked a lot and We kind of tell always told that I have fun and play the game the right way. You know, soon as I said in 2011 when I was in a big league camp, so hey, helped me a lot. Coming up, and I talked to vital a little, but he doesn't talk that much. But I talked to him a little bit, but it's always good to know T here everybody's story and how they got there and all that stuff, so that's always a really good stuff. You know, because you're a free agent. I have to ask. Are you open to possibly coming home to play for the Reds? I'm open to listen to anything. That's the thing. So anything that's good. And that game Dr. Been trying to do everything? Yeah. I mean, I listen and see what they have to offer. Have dollar talk so ever known. Have they shown any interest in you either to you or to your agent to this point. To the agency. I think they talked a little bit. If I could be a go between in the negotiation, just let me know. DD, all right. Didi Gregorius when he joined the last month, talking about his future, he is, um he's being pursued by multiple teams. The report from Jim Boulden yesterday was The Reds had expressed interest in Marcus Simeon. As DD mentioned back then the Reds had had contact or at least conversations with his agent. From that standpoint, the Reds have not been tied to a least I have not seen many reports of them tied to our interest in one Andrelton Simmons. We know this. They need a shortstop. I would think DeeDee and the other the other than the factory about DD he was coming off of Tommy John surgery, so I think it's fair to say although he'll be 31 in February. I would think another year removed from the Tommy John surgery. Now, as I say that I don't remember if it was his throwing arm or not. Now, I think about it, but you would think it least he would be more comfortable one more year removed from that surgery. Um He's a guy who makes contact. He's a guy who knows the organization. He's a guy who played for David Bell when he was in the minor leagues, but also keep in mind. They had a crack at him, and he had a crack at them last year at this time, and he chose to side with the Phillies, and by the way, Speaking of the Phillies reports tonight indicate the Phillies are expressing interest with Freddy Galvis. Freddy Galvis was a filly and eventually went to Toronto, then went up with the Reds that the season before so the wheels turn and you would think it's some point. Hopefully, it stops with one of those three. I would say, D. D is the safest I would say. Marcus Simeon is the one with the biggest upside potential, but it's ah A bigger risk because he doesn't make a whole lot of contact, and he's not much of a fielder. And then my fallback is probably Anderson Simmons, who I just did It bugs me that for two years they talked about his ankle. And if he's not the defensive player, he once was that I'm not sure he is much of a help in the mix of one of those three, the other issue Reds related before the top of the hour, I mentioned off the top that Archie Bradley Side today with the Phillies Mark Feist sand of MLB dot com says it's one year six million. Here's what is much as I made the case last night that the Reds need to and much like the Padres did kind of take advantage of the opportunity in the NL Central. How the rest of the division is basically standing down. That the Reds need to take it. It's Prime position more so than any time I could imagine going forward where you're going to have an advantage where nobody else is doing anything to say. You know what? Maybe we hadn't planned on doing much, but if nobody else is doing much, let's do something. It's still it is hard.

Nobody knows what you don't know what he's going to do next. He's one of those guys where he gets. He gets a ground ball. Awful ekiti throw it over the centerfield fence from right field or he could throw it to first and gun the guy down gut like get the runner out right. Yeah yes you don't know what's going to happen. It's like it's like boulder. I don't know where it's gonna go. You don't know what he's gonna do. Which is kinda caused. Some problems right. Yes so brig Your yankees are looking at him. Let's compare clubhouse options. Would you rather have a dj lemay or a week in your definitely. Have a rather habit tj right. And i'm not even talking about on the field. No yeah strictly strictly house. Yeah i mean you've got you've got one guy who is kind of unhinged in the clubhouse a little bit. Dj lemay he kind of thing to do. No it's not so then. Okay let me make a little more fair. You get a guy with a whole bunch of personality. Like didi gregorius. These ridiculous questions going for you. I've got one for you. Would you rather have Would you have giancarlo stanton noun in right field or yossi up week. Well aaron judge should be in right field so that's not even a problem. Well okay well how about this but giancarlo stanton is healthy. He's in right field. 'cause wasn't one judge moved over to centerfield and stanton's playing this year. No they move stanton to left. Oh did they okay and it was all right..
