"This story got me a little angry because I honestly like the work that this gentleman did in short time kyle bodey you might as the minor league pitching coordinator and now he's gone. He said that there the law things that couldn't see. I i with the organization. Which i think is not great also. Cj gilman part off as well so now the reds are going higher hitting coordinator director pitching coordinator and sr director pd era glee in barely. He's gone to so these are two hires kyle boaty. Nc j. gilman by dick williams maye was still president of baseball ops and bodies an announcement when he barred ways was cincinnati. He thanked both williams. And eric lee for taking a chance at moving the reds player development department in new direction both were instrumental in effecting enormous change reds farts schism. Thanks what tenth which that's good reds north towards the bottom of the numbers. I think this is baseball. America by the way this articles from reds minor leagues dot com. It is doug gray with the article. So dick williams eric lee left last year on their own boating and gilman knowing the parting ways the organization's going in a different direction of development but seems incredibly clear that the front office under dick williams in the front office underneath crawl. See things quite differently and this is a shame to because boating gilmer hired before twenty. Twenty season was supposed to start but of course that never happened so those guys only got one year to show what their plans were i hate it. I i don't think there's any way. I can sell this off in a positive spin. I hate it just one year trying to turn minor league baseball in a different direction. And you're already butting heads saying no. We wanted this way just now. Now towards the bottom of the article continuingly for the sake of continuity is dumb is not working sticking with it to keep continuity going makes sense but seemed like things were on the up and up for cincinnati and now back to the drawing board i. I'm pretty upset on that. I didn't see a lot of people chime in on this although looking at the cop. that's underneath. The article is a stunning and unbelievably disheartening. Let alone bizarre. And it's timing during a wildcard chase. How was it that they couldn't wait a few more weeks. Yeah i i don't know the reality. Is this another comment that the average reds fan has idea about these moves nor cares. Which if you think about you come out you watch the reds and that's it but for those that actually follow along with stats and everything such as myself..

"So there's a very recent history of people in this town of you look at the reds and going did i do anymore. I'm done i'm done. I think with some of those same people now with a team. That's actually been worth paying attention to. You're sitting you're waiting. You are skeptical of ownership but friday might be the last chance the very last chance. A lot of reds fans are going to give this owner which means it's the last chance a lotta reds fans are gonna give this team. And i'm not talking about well if they're a good again people aren't going to come back. Of course they will but the last six or seven years. There's always been this sort of implication from the reds whether it be ownership itself whether it be from dick williams when he was here whether p from nicole whether it be from walt jocketty. There's always been this message implied or not from them to us. That said trust us. Come on we know. It's going to take now but we're going to get through this. You're going to have to put up with some tough times. But there's going to be a massive payoff at the end. The payoff cannot be a club. That's clinging to five hundred that the front office doesn't do anything to enhance or help. And i think this is. This represents the most compelling storyline at the trade deadline. And i think what i'm most fascinated by look. I would love it if the reds could figure out a way to allocate resources in a manner that doesn't necessarily hurt the team in the long term..

"Sports All right bars. I know sports as far as I know. World Series kicks off tonight. We know that And right here is everything you need to know about the Dodgers. Rey's World Series I need to know is I want to raise to be the Dodgers. That's all I need to know. Elsewhere. Austin. Did you watching these games? Yeah, I watched both of them. Wish I had. I was busy, so I'm a big fan of five o'clock football. I saw him. I mean, the seven o'clock last week. I love that or two weeks ago. Um, so it was Andy that bad Or was it the defense given up points? Which was it? Well, the defense is definitely not good. Easy. Copilot had two fumbles that he lost and he threw a pick. Their offensive line was tormented. They just they looked really out of sync. I read the pic wasn't his fault. Was it his fault? It wasn't really his fault. Did he play a decent game? Now? I like Andy Dalton. Not just like him playing somewhere else. I like Andy, too. It's just he didn't look very good. Nobody on the on Dallas did so, with that, and the chief's whipped on the bills. I think bills have lost two in a row and everything. They have not looking so hot all of a sudden. Ah, what else? What else? Reds note they announced Nick crawl. The JIA is taking over for Dick Williams, the GM when there'll be the GM, and when the president baseball operations or whatever wedding he answers straight to the top. Yeah, put it that way. Nothing else. Big FC They just sit around doing nothing They lost on Sunday night. That's all I know. I knew that like a 2 to 1. All right, we will declare that to be sports on 700 wlw.

"A sports talking Friday night. 700 wlw Mohagher For Lance McAllister, startling coming up at 905 will jump back into the Bangles and Ravens coming up after the eight o'clock news. This was Ah! This was a A pretty big week for the Cincinnati Reds, the president of baseball operations Dick Williams. Announced that he is resigning. He is stepping down. He's going to go work in the family business. He's going to go pursue interests outside of baseball. He's going to spend more time with his family. And I understand all that. If I take him at his word. I certainly understand. I know the time commitment. The heavy time and emotional investment. You have to make it if you're in that job at the time, you're away from your family traveling at ballparks, nights weekends. I understand all that. I never hold it against anybody. Who, even if they have, Ah, gig that's on the surface really good in hyping who says I got to spend more time with my family? I'm gonna do something that's more that's better by my kids better by my family. If I'm taking Ah, dicks worded face value. And assuming that there is nothing beyond what means the I have no issue with that whatsoever. It is interesting to me, though. I do a show weekday afternoons on ESPN 15 30. We talked about this all afternoon on Wednesday when the news came down. Hands. The reaction that I got for most people was sort of. Ah, No man. More of a sound effect than anything else. That's not good. That's not bad. It's just Reality. That was the reaction. In fact, I even asked A poll question. On my Twitter feed at Mohagher 15 30. I got a few 1000 responses and I gave users three choices. Asking your reaction to Dick Williams, leaving his job is a Wish he was staying. Be glad he's going. See what Tiny, tiny minority was glad he's leaving. There was about 20% 25% actually. Who said when she was staying, and then about 70% were sort of like that's what that was Their response. See? It's interesting to me. Um I guess my reaction is That it's not necessarily a good thing. But It doesn't have to be the worst thing in the world either. Like I took Williams had some successes. Not the least of which I mentioned this before, is the fact that About 22 months ago. They started an overhaul of the roster. That ended with them going into this season with four former All Star pitchers. And when that overhaul began, obviously, Luis Castillo was here. But the Reds pitching staff was historically bad. We all remember the quote from Bob Castellini, right? Got to get the pitch and get the pitching. We repeated it at nauseam that all season. All they did. Sonny Gray was an all star. After coming here. Luis Castillo became an All Star. By the way they got Luis Castillo Dick Williams did from another team. The Miami Marlins. Um they acquired Trevor Bauer like there were some really shrewd And productive decisions made by Dick Williams, or at least made by the Reds. Will Dick Williams was running baseball operations, They effectively flipped Homer Bailey's terrible contract for Trevor Bauer. In between. We had yes, yell Puig and Alex Wood and Matt Camp, but they effectively Took Homer Bailey flipped him for a useful part to actually and Kyle Farmer. And, yes, yell Puig and then took plead and tailors from Ellen got called and got. Trevor Bauer is probably gonna win the Cy Young this year. That's that's that's not insignificant at all. It's also not insignificant that when Dick Williams took the job as president of baseball operations after being in the organization in different capacities, including general manager for a while, It was it was going to be awhile in 2016. We knew it was going to be a while before the Reds were good again and yes, it it took longer than we wanted it to, But they were It might stop short of saying they were good this year, but They were in the playoff. Hunt, and they ultimately did make it so there was there was some good And you know the drafts that they've had in recent seasons haven't Really yielded the sort of short term dividends that a lot of people were hoping for, And that doesn't mean that we're bad draft classes. But the jury is still out on guys like Nixon's El and what they did this offseason, frankly, Really didn't work. I know all the money they spend on upgrading the offense and then this team couldn't hit. So I don't really put that on Dick Williams, but it is interesting to me for a CZ. Muchas we talked about Red's management structure in the front office and the way that they have to and need to revamp the rods from what they could do to put themselves in a position to win the person in charge of all that leaves. And it kind of felt like most people were Maybe you weren't And if that's not how you felt you could tell me at 513749, 7000 and 100 big ones. You're welcome to do that, but that that's sort of what I gathered. I think I think the timing of this is kind of interesting. I think the timing of this is is weird. From from this standpoint. Mentioned took Williams gets the job in 2016. And at that point, the Reds were just cranking out 90 loss seasons and say what you want about the way the season ended last week, But things did kind of start to turn right. They did for this this year, the last two years. In 2019. They at least didn't lose 90 games, And this year things did turn, albeit over a 60 game schedule. And Dick Williams decides to leave. Now. Be like me like I've been on the radio in Cincinnati for 13 years. And we have yet to be on the air. While the Reds are Bangles have advanced in the postseason. Which is so I do this show from a fan standpoint, and you know it's fun when the teams are winning, and I long for the day where I'm talking about the Reds advancing in the playoffs for the Bengals advancing in the playoffs or a huge You see basketball fan Yu si basketball having a chance to be in the final four and so in my career while you know that we've I've talked about and I've been on the air for good teams. I haven't been able to talk about the Reds in the World Series or the Bangles in the championship game, or you see basketball in the Final four. But I've been on every single day talking about at times, Heartbreak and At times, incompetence and a lot of losing. And so let's just say that after years and years and years of talking about losing, I were to decide you know what Things are starting to turn. It looks like burrow in the Bangles have a chance to be really, really good. Maybe playing a Super Bowl one day or God. You know what the Reds have a chance to be in the World Series or man? The bear Cats have a team that could be in the final four..

"Let me just get this out there right now. Rocky Boy Minh sucks. He is in Miami Beach, right? Oh, is it? Did you know that now I'm guessing that due to Cove, it precautions he needed to leave a little bit early and make sure they stays a little bit late. Just, you know, Come on, man. Rocky's doing his ESPN gig this week, so he's at Miami Beach. So I'm working with Rachel, but it's always a pleasure It is. Yes, I can't. I can't think of anybody. I'd rather spend my Friday with That's very sweet. I'd rather spend it with Rocky and Miami Beach. But you know, I'll take second. I mean, before here, you get sad. Thank you. I appreciate that. It's hard to beat Miami Beach. Let's Ah Let's go with our usual Friday round up, though Richard Skinner, local 12 skinny, How are you Don't know what we're in. Come on, man. Miami Beach Right now. You know what? You know what you wanted Iraqi want a 72 hour pre quarantine there. Don't do the game to our post quarantine. That's exactly He's doing the Florida international game doesn't care what game he's doing. I know what I'm saying. You could be due to the Dolphins Miami International. Whatever the hell it doesn't matter. Ah, dude. So anyway, so skinny. Let's talk about what's going on here. Sports wise. The Dick Williams situation. Your thoughts on that. Oh, my. I guess it's surprising on one hand. I know he told some people back in February. He was considering doing this. I think he said something again in August he was considering doing it. But you know, some of his comments last weekend to the Reds were bounced out. He sounded extraordinarily for lack of a better term but hurt by by the reaction to the Reds, losing And I wonder, And I hope I'm wrong with what I'm wondering. I wonder if you know they told him. Listen, we don't know where things are going financially. Um, we have to cut the purse strings. We may not be in the Trevor Bauer sweepstakes. Look, you're him. At that point. You got a family business to fall back on. When you go. I'm not going to fight this fight again. I thought it once and try to get us back to the point We're at people didn't seem to appreciate and I'm going. On the other hand, It could simply be him saying, you know what? I just want you in the family business. I always like to read something else into that. So maybe that's just me. Skinny was this actually means in terms of team management, Nick Crawl is still there, obviously, so if you have a problem, he's I think if I forget the technical title, but he manages the baseball side of this pretty much has for the last couple of years. He's been his position. That means if he's still there The same stuff that you have been doing if that was your issue, as a reds fan is still in place as of right now. Yeah, you know, I didn't quite like they haven't drafted great over the over the last few years. I mean, they haven't had complete misses all the time. When you're small Market club, you need to probably hit on more draft picks when they hit on, you know, cheap nickel Dolo the crew's drafted last year could maybe make to the rotation at some point in 2021. Hunter Green. Hopefully not too far after that, that the case and then been good for them, But I mean the way they did do some things in this Aussie and that we all asked him to do, which was go Spend some money to bring in town in here is a wading around in the rebuild of I'm sorrys getting the playoffs but to interrupt, it's ah It's amazing to me because he did do some really good things. Yeah. When the purse money was allowed to be open, and before that, you know, you can argue whose fault is it that it took so long to rebuild and they didn't get a lot back in Trade for Johnny Cueto's of the world when they started the rebuilding process, and you could argue that that may be the Reds waited too long because of the All Star game in 2015, and and it costs them in that regard. I don't think that was William's fault. It was probably above Dick and you could put the finger Bob Castellini for that. But, yeah, you know you overall Once the purse strings got opened. They made some moves to get this cup to the playoffs. It would have been nice to see what would have happened over 1 62. And you know, with the units here, like I said, My fear, though, is it just seemed like you came really out of the blue to a large degree, And then you wonder does he sees something that we're not seeing yet? That we're going down the road as faras finances because let's face it. No fans in the stands this year. There's going to be Sam's next year, and I just don't think the Reds are organization get afford to have that happen and be able to pay for the Trevor Bauer of the world. That's so true, but I mean, I think, Dick Williams, I we've worked with him quite a bit here on this with the station, and I think he did great job. I think Nick Rahall does a great job. I think it's just tough to be in a position where you had the guy that's answering for all of the decisions that aren't necessarily completely in your control. You just have to take the brunt of the responsibility for those decisions. Regardless. Yeah, and like I said, I mean, if you put some of these comments from last week after they were balanced, it sounded like he felt very underappreciated. Um And you know, three days later, two days later, Whatever it wass, he obstinate to step aside again. Maybe it is. You just want to get the family business. He had enough of off, you know, working 70 hours, 80 hour, weeks and in baseball team, and that's a high pressure business right there now. Sure, no doubt. And I mean, you know for him he's got. He's got a great fallback opportunity with a family business. And so yeah, that's the thing. I think we will know really what this decision was about for another two or three months. When we get to the off season and see what can the Reds do? What will they do when it comes to trying to re sign Trevor Bauer? Maybe trying to retool a couple of positions trying to retool the lineup a little bit where they're going to hit shortstop. So yeah, I don't think we'll know fully until then. But it just seems very odd that within a couple days span of So this comments he says. That's it. I'm done so skinny. I will tell you this..

This would likely be his final year with the team. This morning he made it. Official. Dick Williams has resigned as the president of baseball operations, ending a 15 year run with the organization. A statement from the Reds says President of baseball operations Dick Williams has been a part of the team's success since the first days of Castellini ownership in 2006. He was promoted to GM in 2015, and he's been in his current position since 2016. Now, the team says he's resigning to pursue interests outside of baseball. Nick Crawl will continue as the Reds vice president, general manager, Williams says, now's the right time for a transition. During his time in the front office. The Reds won the NL Central twice got into the playoffs four times and the Reds one Organization of the Year in 2012. "Van Helen dying yesterday. The age of 65 Brian comes in the 770 newsroom. We have some breaking Reds news right now, dear. The Reds just announced that their president of baseball operations Dick Williams has resigned. Last thing we heard from Dick Williams was when the season ended list last week, and he said he was bitterly disappointed in the Reds, lack of Ah, progression in the playoffs. The statement says that Nick Kroll will continue in his role as the team's vice president and general manager. Williams says that this is quote the right time for me to start a transition. Both professionally and personally said he's been affiliated with the organization one way or another for most of his life. His father and grandfather, obviously part owners of the club. Hey, says more than anything he's been proud to represent. This city called it the honor of a lifetime to be part of. Ah, assembling a team that went out and battled for fans of Cincinnati and doesn't say what he is going to pursue in the future. Bob Castellini praising Dick Williams for helping turn the club around. He says that Dick has quote an incredible baseball like you and a gift for innovation. That came at the right time in Red's history, and they say they're proud of the contributions he's made to the franchise. No word on whether that was a position that will be replaced or if the duties I guess would be assumed by crawl and others within the organization. But The Williams name is a storied one in the history of the Cincinnati Reds. As I said his father, grandfather, both have been owners of the club in the past, and Williams, who was the president of baseball operations is out. Yeah, I mean, look at the history, the Williams family from big head machine days and Williams and James and the majority owners. On DH. Now that Dick Williams is out, and it sounds like it's me he was fired. It wasn't it wasn't like, Hey, I'm leaving to go work. It means don't say what the new interest is. I mean, the release has nothing but praise. For the job that he's done and the Castellini families saying that they are, you know, certainly appreciative of his efforts, and during his tenure, the Reds did win. The National League Central back when you know when we started ahead, four postseason burst, though they've never won a postseason. Siri's grander William, is there anybody Well, 1995. It's not hard to see why I've got 160 Million reasons why declaims is looking for a job today, But Brian coming on this very well might might be, AH, budget kind of move. I mean, the Reds, obviously, with every team in baseball lost a lot of money this past year and if they don't replace him And maybe that's just a front office position they absorb. All right. Well, let's find out. Maybe we'll get more. Thank you. Brian comes Let me get to a 700 WW Lance McAllister and sports talk tonight at 605, which I'm sure the format of the show has just changed tremendously. Lance. Welcome in 20. Good morning. You're right. A cz. We say we have got a new topic A for tonight, Brian. Just a little too. Is this a budget move? Because the team a small market team, like Cincinnati is lost so much money they look at and go. OK, we got Nick Crawl. We've got David Bell. Do we really need a president? Baseball operations in Dick Williams? We spend 160 million plus of the offseason. And it didn't get us anything. But ah, two and out eyes that part of the equation here. I can only tell you what Dick Williams told me by text a couple of minutes ago, and that was it was his decision and that, uh, he would talk further that this afternoon. I'll take him at his word for that. Um, and all defer to the statement he's made in the press release. I got to tell you, this is they use the baseball cliches. Something being out of left field. This is out of left field. When I got the heads up earlier this morning that something was happening. I thought it was going to be the announcement of a new hitting coach. Um, I didn't They could be a major splash like this, obviously, but this is a This is a game changer, of course changer for this franchise, But let's not lose sight of, and certainly the front and center is and the optics of this is 160. Million. Spend of the offseason. Yes, they got into the playoffs. Yes, they had a winning record. It was in the truncated 60 game season and expanded playoffs. But this team disappointed for a large chunk of the season and not for the 11 and three rally down the stretch. We're talking about missing the playoffs and having a losing season. They would have been 17 in the last 20 years. Obviously not all on his watch. But let's also remember Sloane E. The resume in the file of Dick Williams is President Baseball office is going to include Bringing in by trade. Sonny Gray, Luis Castillo, Trevor Bauer, Anthony DeSclafani engineer to trade for a radio. Suarez claimed that Kirk Sally for for a song off the waiver, wire and deal with the Rays, and I think more than anything else. What stands won't see is and probably, and this is the way it works A lot of the times The, Um The true impact is probably coming down the road with what they've changed below the surface of this organisation, bringing in Kyle Brody to streamline the pitching throughout and they have made, I would say over the last year and a half there have been more upgrades to the inner structure of this organisation down below in the miners that maybe any organization baseball. It's just it's going to take longer than a year and a half for the minor leagues to show that I don't think it's going to be a stretch to say in a couple of years when we look at this system and say You know what I say this It's going to be like we said of Daniel Bryan and Wayne Krivsky. Once they left, we're going to say Wow, look at some of the stuff they were able to do before they went. Okay. Lance McCallister on the show this morning on 700 wlw breaking news. President of baseball operations for the Reds. Dick Williams is out on DH seemingly it's It's maybe a mutual parting. It's kinda hard to read the tea leaves in these press releases lands. Ah, yes. So I said, I I I'm flying blind. Other than what he has told me And that was it was his decision. Clearly there is there's a lot of If you place the timeline and the family tree and the interconnections and then er we've been to this organization. There's a lot of emotions and family and there would be difficult things everywhere you turn in term type terms of decisions. So I can only go by what he had said this morning. Yeah, in the first line of the release, I'll read it right now from the Cincinnati Reds, and from God. Bob Castellini is the Cincinnati Reds this morning announced that Dick Williams has resigned President of baseball operations to pursue personal interests outside of baseball. Now, you know again, time will tell Lance because sometimes these are mutual decisions, or it's like, Hey, You're going to go. We're going to have a bunch of money and you're going to say bye bye and say it was your decision that those things have happened all the time. This happened with the Reds before. I don't know if that's the case here or not, time will find out. But at this point, it really doesn't matter. When you talk about the legacy of Dick Williams. You just laid it out.

"Know we deserve better. Let's take some calls here. Nate in Indianapolis. What's up, buddy? You're on the big one. Hey, Good morning, man. How's it going? First of all, it's well, I'm doing well. Can't say the same for red. It is a beautiful Monday morning and a beautiful holiday morning. I'm going to give myself and everybody else that they were not go the hell off about the reds, but what I am going to do, but I am going to do is I'm going to state the obvious, but I'm gonna work it a little differently than what people have become complacent West. Well, I feel that the Reds have have been doing the past. I'm going to go ahead and say five years We've we've gotten into this trend of normalcy where we will go on. And when I say we I'm talking to all of us that it was sitting right now, because we're always changed. It weren't we wouldn't be in the picket to begin with Wei. Go on these four and five game pears, and we're like, man, we're doing it and all of a sudden we go on this nine game Dumpster fire. Everybody gets her. Nobody wants and it's like well, now wait a minute. I just wanna number three games way. Do this Ping Pong? Yeah, our mental state and we we wantto first we want to blame Belle. You know, First we wanted to blame Brian Brian. Let's blame Belle. Now in the meeting. I'm concerned when we lose guys like Dear teacher, I had a 200 something batting average. Well, dude only batted like 67 times, like maybe 12 games, So when we're losing these guys that we don't use We've got talent sitting on the bitch and we're letting guys that don't have consistency. Go out there on a daily Iglesias for you. We have these guys go out and set fire and set fire world is sitting there getting burned, like, Yeah, we've got women will be okay. Stop spreading the matches out there riding them kids. He caught on fire and burning Everybody, right, get the guys out there and have the consistency that have a talent that I want to do it. And then we can start to get into a normalcy of positivity. Not Yeah, we'll do it next year. No next couple games, right, man. That's a good point. Thanks a lot for the call. Yeah. I mean here is that they will get the Dietrich here in a minute. I'm glad we got these calls because I promise. I'll get the Ali even if we got to go into the next break. Here's the thing about the trick that frustrated me and like he said he didn't get Granny's Baton 200, but he didn't get the bats when, when Derek Dietrich and look nobody's going to do with Derek Dietrich did you know against the Pirates every game, nobody's going to do it Aristide he's Aquino did for a month. Falling in love with those streaks is just Truthfully, it kinda tells me like you don't really know about baseball because it's not to be insulting, but it's just streaks and funks happen. It's baseball is an extremely cruel Slow burning tortures came That being said, though Joey Votto is still Joey Votto. I'm not going to be one of those guys that just beats on Joey Votto. Was it time to start thinking about his heir apparent and could his heir apparent of been Derek Dietrich? I'm just I'm not saying he could have been or should have been, or would have been But what I'm saying is, could Derek Dietrich have been The heir apparent at first base to Joey Votto. Nobody's going to get the on base percentage that Joey Votto has. Nobody's going to get, you know, Dinky little singles like he has that. Should be driving in runs but aren't but my point is, is that There have been some trades, and we can go back to the Johnny Cueto trade with with those pictures and not not working out, But there have been some there. It seems like a lot of the things that could have gone wrong in the for the Reds in the last few years. Have gone wrong. Um I don't know. Hopefully, one of you guys has the answer. Let's see here will go back to the calls. Who's been on here? The longest a Stephen in Columbus. What's going on, man here on the Big one? How you doing? Hey, What's up, buddy? Okay, you know But this was a business in any of the distance was Bill part Selves would say in football. You are what your record is. And we could talk about this trait. We could talk about that trade talk about their day. Quit Dietrich. We could talk about David. Yeah. But it all clearly as the day is law. It pops about Dick Williams. Yeah. Lucas Dick Williams Qualifications, Please listen. Yeah, Qualifications are Father, which told chairman of the board are repeat. Look a big Williams. Record since he has taken over the team. Yeah, Look, it's it's clear of the day is long. If you want to criticize David Bell in, you could Yeah, we would hire David Bell Dick lives. Yeah. Yeah, okay. Everything goes back to Dick Williams. And the Reds organization. Nick Rahall may be good or bad. Dick Williams has his hands on every day and wore big would get out of the out of the bin. The Reds will go nowhere Food..

"You know and that was normal in many studios Dick Williams said look I don't Care Take Papa-, use the camera use the cameramen take as many pencils you to like gun you use the editor you do your own stuff i. So. I was working on my own stuff, which was my first film. It's Philip about how the Japanese artists. And when Frank Thomas arrived at the studio and I was just up there between these commercials working on hawks side, which was really great and then I I knew Frank Thomas was gonna be in the building, but I didn't know if he was ever see him because I was upstairs at this point during an animating. and then I heard Dick's voice coming up the stairs and I could hear this American accent voiced cycle that coming in coming in and they into the doorway. And I didn't know what to do. So I just kept drawer and Dick was told in everything and then I heard Frank Thomas said that Hawk side. And, I look around my said, yes, it's so film making an Hour I. Love how his and then he came up and he was the most the myself a nice person I love him. He was so hazing and so generous with these comments and he said Oh yeah, I'd do it like that too. and. It was. It was just like my dream come just. Frank. Thomas. Is the out of the nine old men he's he used sibling I relate to the most because he's talked about as being a artists of. Great at like he he can't just him. He's not like male call where he just draws exactly. But he wants type things really got to look for it and hunt for it and experiment, and that type thing and and that's a that's a lot. My own approach when I'm animating I've really got to look for for that gesture that posed. You know I don't have that digital printer. -bility that note call or I'm sure Richard Williams have or you just you can do it straight ahead INC? Probably you know. Yeah and I've seen that. Yeah I get so. Thirsty. Mill had the same kind of personality as Dick Williams. That was that edge to them and that. gruffness if it wasn't going right they they which shout at you and go crazy. But I only had that once Dick and he was wrong when he did it to me and I'd never seen him do it before. We used to go down into the dialers in the basement theatre down in the subway. Place when we were there and every morning everyone went in there. and. It was quite funny because the naive ones and I learned I learned as a naive one. Because you go in there and every day Dick would say. Now, why doesn't I won't people to speak up because the from the previous previously I want everyone to speak out because at Disney, what they do they go into the sweat shop and they come and criticize each other's work and they really get in there and help each other and so I, want you guys to do that yeah. Sure. I eat ones and I. I kinda got hint what was going on because when I went in there. Oh the experience wants never sit right they never said..

The hoopla started with a parade Cincinnati's one hundred and fifty years of opening day history. Excellent raid, we talked with Michelle Clark heard the head coach the UC women. They'd get a big one the round of sixteen of the W NIT Thursday night at fifth third arena. She checked in at seven zero five we got heavy into the reds conversation in the first hour rolled it into the second hour and heck why not let's roll it into this third hour. Gary Jeff Walker will follow at nine o'clock. We have a couple of developing situations on the NFL front. I think you'll find interesting one one bit of news tonight that involves the Bengals voting. No while everybody else in the league voted. Yes. We'll get to that. In just a second. Let's begin though with dick Williams told me last night. He join me right out of the chute at six oh six last night. Couple of things that stood out that I thought worthy of replay in this hour. Some of it involves Nixon Zell now keep in mind at the time. I was talking with dick Williams. Nixon's L had not left last night's minor league game with an ankle injury. Now at a boot expected to miss seven to have the ankle in a boot for seven to fourteen days. Not sure how much time he'll miss after that. But this mostly centered on the injury to scooter Jeanette and then Nixon's ELS role going forward. But I I'm struck by how the how the scooter Ginette injury is being received in written about nationally. I've seen the term devastating blow used a couple of times. And I don't say this to downplay scooter Jeanette, but it does it bite. Yeah. But I don't know that losing scooter Janette is a devastating devastating to me. Would mean man you have no option whatsoever. And you are up a creek they're going to slide Jose Peraza over to second base. And they're gonna play Jose Eglesias shortstop who wasn't everyday shortstop for the first five years in his major league career. They're going to be better defensively as a result, they will in no way, shape or form. Will it make up for genetics offense? But I would argue this offense as a whole will be better than last year's offense. But you're talking about an outfield that no longer will be playing Billy Hamilton and Adam Duvall, instead, we'll be playing a healthy Jesse Winker Matt Kemp Yossi oh, healthy Jesse Winker. And I'll bet anybody who wants to bet me Joey Votto has a better year. So again, not to downplay or say scooter doesn't matter it really bites that he's out twelve to six weeks. But I'm sorry. I'm not going so far as to say, it's a devastating injury. I think they can I think they're better defensively now. And I think everybody else will help make up for the lack of offense. If that makes sense. So that was kind of a starting point last night. When I ask dick Williams about his reaction to the scooter Jeanette news. Nobody's hitting the panic button. Here. We're just really disappointed for Scherzer for spring training. Sometimes it just really come up and bite. She's much rather. Have that happen first we of spring training in the last? But the the job that that my guys did bringing in some quarters on minor league contracts to have a Jose glaciation everyday big leaguer ready to step in in the middle infield. And a guy like Derek Dietrich to step in the wind chill. Another guy. That's been in day. Clinton really help soften the blow. But really bumped for scooter Indica, I think it also speaks volumes for who's eight Peraza was coming off a really nice year that that he kinda volunteered. Instead. I'll I'll go over to second base of you neighbor. Yeah. Great team player. I mean, this is a guy who played a lot of second base coming up. And are scouts at one time. And some of them still would say it best position. Although he's getting so much better short and maybe changing. But I mean, he's played two thousand five hundred innings at second base coming up through his career. So he got very comfortable over there. And. Transition back will be fine. And I'll make a strong up the middle. The other big news over the weekend was among the final cuts and included Nixon Zell, of course, take us through that decision. And how you see this playing out with him going forward now. Yeah. Well, you know competition is going to bring the best out guys. And I think it's gonna be better. And better the more. We could be challenging the more. He takes on. And you know, kitchen used to conquer what what we asked him. You know, that's the guy that was an excellent infielder third baseman coming out of college. You know? Of course, we have an all star third baseman locked up so gave me opportunity to place in short. And then put him over there at second base to play much second base last year about twenty games before he went down with increasing this year this year. You got the all star second scooter and y'all start third. So you give them a chance to get in the outfield. And you know, we we acquire to all stars in camping tweet for the outfield. You got Shovellers thirty home run guy comes in and has an unbelievable scream. Former number one pick force or has a great spring. And so it's just you know, Nick is he he's he's trying to beat out really good players for these jobs. And he is he's gonna he's gonna do. One of these days journey is really good. Good player. I think it also speaks to his character. Well, he's a rookie. He handled the announcement. Like a pro saying for those who haven't heard paraphrasing. I had a chance to win the job. And I got beat out by Scott. Yeah. I thought he did a very nice job. He was professionally in our meetings. Our discussions. You know, we have challenged her to do a lot of different things, and we've been very appropriate that we we we DAT him. But we can he's that special talent. We're just trying to find spots around the diamond to get him to break into this lineup too soon as possible because we all know he's going to be an impact player when he gets here. He he has taken on each challenge. Head on. He went out to the outfield. Worked very hard out there. Improvements have been significant in a short period of time. And I and I think it will only get better. We just didn't have. Just hasn't gotten very many innings out there spring training was was an opportunity, but it's such a different experience from from the big league parks. I think once he gets started here in Louisville gets gets into routine and play centerfield every day for for a period of time. He's really ramp up quickly. And so to be clear for those wondering the plan is in fact for him to play centerfield at AAA Louisville. It it is for right now, he can be very very valuable to us out there. We can't always also played in the second day. She could come up at second base. That's where we need him. If we have issues there, we think we're well covered their short term with a with a young player that we'd like we think Nick to make more of an impact if he can end up upgrading our out your defense and playing center at a higher level than anybody. We have on the team, and I think only experience will tell if he's able to do that long term. I think both both options around the table. This could play center long-term. We're pretty sure you can play second base. And we know he can play third base. So it's all on the table. You know, it's fluid and. Like, I said we're just as anxious as he has to get get them up here at some point a little bit of dick Williams on sportstalk last night with me at six oh six to begin the show again that was prior to the news that Nixon Zell has gone down with the ankle injury. That ankle in a boot for seven fourteen days, and then reevaluated that entire conversation. We talked about the pitching staff in opening day in the season ahead in greater detail on the blog, you wanna take a listen.

"Probably the favorite of another part of ownership thing has father and his uncle hopefully, they like him better than they like while in and not to say anything about wealth that way. But you know, this is dick has been a guy who has always been receptive to the way the games changing. And he and won't it don't think we're on the same page, but yet there was some buying from there. You know, they Sam Crossman is a guy who has it's kind of been interesting to watch some of these guys come up from the bottom and go all the way to the top. And symbiosis was the head of analytics is I don't know SAM's exact title, it changes every year as he grain Keane's prominence has huge staff. And I think this is something that this front office when it went from the Jocketty regime to the William. Resume. There was some time where they needed to to really sell the importance of this to ownership, and what it means and David bell is kind of a guy who is really bought into this after his time in Saint Louis, and and then also with San Francisco, and he's put together this this staff. That's really really interested. Interesting. I'm you know, they have a big Red's fest in December every year. And I saw I got there early the second day on Saturday. And I saw Donnie Acker the assistant hitting coach JR house. They were the third base coach they were there, and they'd finally got to get with some of the analytics types, and and and they were a had one of the guys they're in a corner on their, laptops. And they all had their laptops off. And they were just the other had their jerseys on for their little autograph sessions and all that, but they were just like talking to the analytics people. About what they're doing. And they were getting to work at that point. Because it was they were really excited to get in on that Donnie as a guy who has a biometrics background. And so it's really really interesting to see the full on Byeon. I think it's something that they'd been trying to move to gradually in when they could turn over a staff almost completely it. It is really it's been the coaching staff has been very very telling so Hewitt. You had mentioned the dick Williams is the son of a minority owner, I believe of the reds and just on Sunday. I was absent mindedly scrolling through some of my Twitter DM archives just going away back for for no reason other than I had nothing to do. And I did come across a message. This is all non, but this is back in two thousand fifteen when when dick Williams was promoted within the reds, and I got a direct message. I don't even remember what the context was of this conversation. But the direct message that a lot of the players. Reds kind kinda side dick Williams as schmuck. And that all the players saw that is just like nepotism higher. And that it rubbed them all very much the wrong way. Now that was more than three years ago to this point.
