"I'm curious, when you would watch, you know, these last 20 years, you were at Fox when you would watch Monday Night Football. Did you notice differences, big or small, in production, things Monday Night Football did differently that you liked, didn't like going into it, you see things you'd like to do, maybe that Fox did or you like something ESPN did. Are you looking at a game that way when you're watching it or you just watching the game? A little bit, yeah, yeah. I definitely pay attention to the broadcast, pay attention to what the announcers are saying, what the analysts are saying, the shots, you know, what the producers doing, how they're setting the game up. And so as I said, Richie science has been my producer for 21 years. I've never as crazy as that sounds. I started out with Daryl Johnston and dick Stockton in Richie Zion's was my producer. And then the next year, when Madden left for Monday Night Football, I then moved up to the number one booth and Richie Zion did as well. So I've only had one producer. I only know one way of doing it. And it's been great. And Richie's one of the best in the business. And so for me to get the opportunity to work with Phil dean and kind of see now how he does it. And I know he's a pro. He's great. And I'm excited about it. We've talked. We're going to all get together and kind of work through some of those things. So I know how they've kind of done their game. Which is probably a little different from the way we've done our game, which is great. And I'm just curious for the listener, can you share what a difference? Is it really something minute? What would you say is it different? Just as a viewer, I'd be curious. Well, I think that as far as how you kind of lead into a game and you can tell how much where the producer kind of fits into that. And their fingerprints on the broadcast. As far as what direction the announcers are going. So but with that said, there's a lot for us to discuss to just see. It's one thing for me to observe something. It's another thing to then actually be in the room and understand, okay, how do you how do you begin a game? What's your philosophy on broadcasting the game? What do you think are the elements that make a good broadcast? And then kind of take it from there. I have my thoughts on that. Joe certainly has his thoughts on it. Joe has an amazing feel for a broadcast and kind of what a broadcast needs. He definitely has a feel. And I think all great play by play guys do, they have a feel for the moment. I mean, they just know when this is a, and it's one thing for a viewer, you'd say, yeah, well, we all know when it's, well, no, not really. You know, we all know those moments, but there's other times in a game where you just kind of realize, hey, this is kind of a significant time, or here's a good time to interject this. So to get to work with a different producer, a different director, and a new team, if you will, I'm looking forward to seeing how someone else does it. And looking forward to those talks..

Plus how America can best curtail child poverty But first states are adjusting guidance on masks some like New Jersey and Connecticut are ending their in school mask mandates New York governor Kathy hochul announced her state would lift mask mandates for indoor businesses We saw those numbers literally off the charts and now those numbers are coming down and it is time to adapt The FDA may soon approve the Pfizer COVID vaccine for children younger than 5 and parents of those children might be hesitant to let them get the shot Bloomberg opinions Lisa Jarvis says the key to increasing vaccinations in children under 5 will be messaging Why have vaccines for the youngest kids been delayed several times Well I think it might help to back up and just talk about why it takes so much longer to test vaccines than kids in the first place As we know with COVID they just don't get sick as adults And so with an adult trial you're looking for very easy endpoints Can you keep people out of the hospital Can you keep them from dying With kids that's a much rare occurrence And so you're looking for instead can you safely give them enough antibodies based on what we know about what you need to fight the virus And so what happened was that Pfizer gave children a very low dose of a vaccine and the data were really fuzzy for kids from 6 months to two years old They look like they had enough antibodies And for kids two to four so if that toddler range they unfortunately missed the market it came in right below the benchmark that FDA said And so that's just been setting everybody back as they try to figure out what to do next Can they do anything before they come up with the new.

The host of whatever you prefer is of course the esteemed richard can. Hello rick hello. I think it's the first time. I've been called richard on the show without being house of sir. Richard haass camp. Richard haass camp better than the other abbreviation was starts at day. Though i'd actually. I think i actually prefer that to richard more often than i wanted to call you that. Can i do that. On terrestrial radio or no. It's your name. So like if we brought on superhero blank tracy receive blank or like or like famous play by play announcer. Dick stockton dick edinburgh. Yeah yeah you're probably okay. Yeah push the envelope to be fair when i feel like. I'm really going to push the envelope. I usually ask for permission. Like last night with my. Please push the envelope. If it's okay for like for instance. I texted guy jesse executive producer of becky. Well can i make. Can i say this missionary. Line of jason garrett. He's probably like on the line but not going too far over right. It was very very good one. Thanks rick rick how are you. I'm doing great all right first. One we have here. Who do you prefer to win the nfc west. The rams plus one seventy five the niners plus two hundred in the seahawks and cardinals are both plus four hundred. What do you got. Can i think. I like the cardinals. I like the cardinals last week. That was my last week to i. I i have a theory. But just like i was ross's answer to yesterday right. I don't know if. I want to bet this per se because the price has been like solo. I mean really. Since the start of the season. But i do think i think tyler my win. Mvp this year. Actually kinda get that vibe about the team and then like their successes already like the narrative of this that their successes so one hundred percent predicated on not just his outstanding play but his outstanding individual players that are being distributed to like planet earth. As like. Look at how amazing. This guy is like like which one player has had the single. Most exciting like consumable individual places. There has to be hit right and asked him. I feel like what if the patriots fifteen into brady forty times. He's going to. I understand what you're saying and brady brady's forty eight touchdowns in two picks or something then like cool and brady. Statistics are likely to be better at the end of the year from just like a raw pass yards pass touchdowns standpoint but like the becomes a narrative award a little bit of arizona wouldn't of games. Obviously which is kind of like this word. So maybe that's a different question. Like if i liked arizona actually have no idea what collars to an. Mvp and bedrooms right now. He was seven or eight to one. I can look. But i think that's interesting. Just in terms of awesome hundred plus. I know that because the next question was literally going to be with seven hundred. Would you rather bet to win. Mvp tyler murray or tom brady. You know what i prefer combining questions so if i like arizona to win the west doesn't them winning. The west like highly correlate to tyler. It's been interesting. Like what would you rather bet situation. If i had to pick the four i bet arizona actually thinking about you know you know the carol source on the ball up thirty two sixteen. Let's go three and out twice addressing the carols go three and out and give the ball back to the. Yes they have. The carol source and arizona's got oatmeal for brains as their head coach. Like it's going to screw arizona at some point like kingsbury is not screw them yet. He's going to at some point. I honestly i could be that you never know. I think i like tens got the value play with arizona. There's no question about it. Ross tucker said that same thing yesterday he likes arizona's. Well i'll go with san francisco plus two hundred all right. Which of the five first round rookie quarterback's would you to bet for offensive rookie of the year. Mack jones plus three fifty justin fields plus four hundred trae lance plus eight hundred trevor lawrence. Plus a thousand zach wilson plus twenty five hundred. Trevor lawrence is a thousand. That doesn't make a lot of sense. Well jaguars magwar are going to go. Three and fourteen gave it the team records. Never like that predictive. Who's gonna win offense rookie of the year. I mean throw a ton of pick. So i understand like again but like jones doesn't have an insane statistical season right now. That's interesting because like it's weird. The fields is still held up as this like. Oh yeah and it's like well okay. They've also played two games already. But i think we're expecting him to play this week and then gets his job. I think that's kind of the expectation right baked into this but we also have no historical precedent for a quarterback starting week three or later and winning seventeen seventeen game season though so it's a kind of the equivalent appropriate coming into week to last year. It's like on that borderline to of like it. Okay cool that could be that but like the price would tell you that it has to be that like that has to be what it isn't that he's so likely to win once that happens like oh by the way. Didn't play great in relief. Of andy like not to the degree that he would win the award. If that was the type of performance you got every week. So kinda interesting. That's all surprisingly trevor. Lawrence is going to start every game the rest of the season unless he is injured. Like that is a certainty. And anything the jags do that would remotely resemble success will be attributed solely to him a certain extent urban meyer promoting player standpoint him like. Should you think herb is going to get the credit. No way i mean. So what are they do. They played houston and denver arizona. This week which actually like arizona's defense bengals titans the two weeks after that. Maybe we can get the train back on the track like if you bet this ten now entering week. Six the london game against miami. So they will play arizona the sunday at cincinnati home. Tennessee is it likely. Is it more likely that price goes up or down versus right now down definitely right down. Yeah mean if that's how we're making this bet like like i don't know if lance can win actually think it might be. It might already be done. I honestly don't even know that's true that wasn't throwing a million fix think lawrence by a lot is what i would bet right now. And that's actually can't believe he's actually really surprised. I and i can't believe mack. Jones plus three fifty like i get it the patriots or one and one but like i mean he's played. Well don't get me wrong. But i mean you put lawrence on the patriots. He'd be the favourite also. You know you put.

"We figured that we would welcome you aboard by well, turning back the clock just a little bit 12 and under pressure again and go The Eagles have tied a club record with nine sacks in the game, and Mike Golic has to or you're gonna need a box score to keep track of all the quarterbacks sacks by the front floor of the Philadelphia Eagles. This afternoon, Dick Stockton in 1991 on CBS sports to Sex. You had 11.5 sex in your career. I can't imagine that this day is anything other than one of the biggest in your career. A monster day for me. We ended up with 11 sacks in that game. We destroyed Dallas in that game, and I had to sex. That's how bad it was for the offensive line because in nine years as you mentioned 11.5 sacks while some people said that was bad When I looked at, I said, that's consistent. That's a little over all sacked a year. I thought my consistency really shone through there. Nothing more. Nothing less. Alright, so he starts things out with Sunday night football here on Westwood one and Got a good when the Chicago Bears in the L. A Rams. Both teams got to the playoffs last year. But this is a decidedly different looking Rams team. And before things are said and done this year quarterback it might be a decidedly different Chicago Bears team. Without a doubt, and I am 100% on board with Andy Dalton Starting. I absolutely thought he should be starting. I have zero problem with that at all, because there are teams that will get to them that have young quarterback center on Probable playoff teams. They need to start their veterans and not start their rookies. So I absolutely like that. He's starting here. You get Damien Williams making his debut here on offense. I think they have better off into weapons. And people think I think the defense could be could be tough. Matthew Stafford over for the Rams, they lose Cam Acres early on, They get the trade for Sony, Michel So and obviously excellent wide receivers. And then there's that guy on defense. Aaron Donald. So while I think the Bears did the right thing and starting and you, Dalton, I don't know if they have enough because I think the Rams are going to be one of the better teams. Uh, in the in the conference. And let's hope they see if they get off on the right foot. So I do like the Rams in this one. I think Matthew Stafford is going to absolutely hit a home run in this offense. The gold standard in the FC. The last few years has been the Kansas City Chiefs, and they got to the Super Bowl last year. They open up at home against the team that Took big strides last year, and people are expecting even bigger things. This year. The Cleveland Browns are finally got to the playoffs and won 11 games last year, So we know a lot about the chief. So let let me talk about the bronze a little bit, Maybe because I was born and raised in Cleveland. That was my team growing up, and I suffered along with everybody else for decades when I was young and growing up and how bad the Browns work. And now look what they did last year. First time they made the playoffs and I think, 135 years and they actually won a playoff game as well. So from the fans, point of view, they're going to be still kind of that. Oh, can we do it again? But one thing people that don't care about history, our players they haven't excellent roster again. It's on paper. Let's see it. Put it on the field. But management has done an excellent job with this roster building for the now and the future. So from the brown side of it, the players side of it it is why not us? And why not? This year? We can go farther. We have excellent running attack on offense. We have an excellent defense. We're building. They need to improve the passing game. Much like when we get to Arizona. I'll talk about them a good rushing attack. They need to pass better with Kyla Murray that needs to happen with Baker Mayfield. That's where they need to pick up the slack in the passing game, and they're going against the team. They lost two in the playoffs in the Chiefs. They were down pretty big in that one. I think, 22 to 10. At one point. The Chiefs are the Chiefs. They should be favored in this game. It's a home game for them, so I, but I would not shock me at all. Maybe it's with my heart more than my head that the Browns pull this one off now the Green Bay Packers or another team. It's been kind of a gold standard. They've been to two NFC championship games in a row. They have not made it to the Super Bowl in either of those years. Now, they open up against the Saints, not in New Orleans. But because of hurricane damage. This game is being played in Jacksonville and oh, by the way, Drew Brees is in the quarterback anymore. Point. What? When's the last time we said that I mean outside of, you know him missing an injury. But first with the Packers when Aaron Rodgers were going through, already went through in the off season, I didn't waver once there was no way A reigning M V P was missing the season. There was no shot that was going to happen. They were going to work things out. Uh, you got to love what they have on the offensive side of the ball from tight end Aaron Jones at running back to obviously the receiver and Devontae Adams. Ellen Lazar had had a big game against the Saints. The last time they played their always huge in the in the Regular season and then they I think they underachieve in the post season and for the Saints, Jamis Winston gets a second chance. And you know why Jamis Winston won't throw 33 interceptions this year. I think like he did last year. Because Sean Payton won't let him That won't happen, so, but I agree he should be. The start of this is a great second chance for him. I think he's been humbled over the last couple of years. He's got all of the offensive tools in the world and a great offensive coach. So I like where the Saints are going here, But I still think the Packers are the better team Mike, Of course, the 2021 season has already begun Thursday night football and the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers proving they're going to be a tough team to dethrone this year. It came down to the closing seconds and the foot of the kicker to put away a season opening win. Suck up from 36 ball. Put down.

Matthew Stafford Aaron Rodgers Mike Golic Dick Stockton Aaron Donald Kyla Murray Aaron Jones Jamis Winston Devontae Adams Sean Payton Damien Williams Michel Chicago Bears Andy Dalton Ellen Lazar Drew Brees Philadelphia Eagles 11 sacks Green Bay Packers 1991

"Jenny's makes it better. Have we talked about this. Family feud episode yet. We we were just recapping. Yeah that was good for everybody except me. But that's that's why it was good. I feel like. I can speak for all on this one because he and i were looking like that. You know. I mean you never looked like that. So that was one of those moments. That i've i've been with. You're twenty years. I've never seen something like that It was horrible. And what you don't know is we came out of our i quote unquote huddle. You've run one of those huddles before troy and we had nobody we couldn't come up with an answer and michelle go steve. Can we huddle again. He goes sure. Go ahead which they don't have in there and then truly was the one that said my best friend. Natalie said my boss. Everyone's like okay my boss. We weren't really gung ho about it. Because i thought who admits in the world that their bosses smarter than them except for everybody that worked for you at the ford dealership. But but i come on. I'm like i don't know. Are people really going. Admit that their boss away went with judy's answer which was my best friend. And now i'm the internet asshole. Let's see here's what the problem is now. You just throwing trudy under the bus. So you're going to get a double-whammy here. I don't care i don't care she's my kid. It was good troy. Use that in times of star. Stay off social. Media's my philosophy that's right yeah yeah it's fine. It's funny you and i've talked about that in. This isn't a show about social media but when you do a game in when we do a game especially when i do a baseball game it's like you want a little bit of time to go by so all the you suck you hate my team. Things can come rolling in now. You can get on twitter four days later three days later and you can kinda just wipe those away with one. Click go to the top. You may see one then you start over. It's like there's other people didn't exist. Yeah no that's that's that's kinda the approach. I do. think that for me though. A little bit like i don't know if it is this way for you but if i feel like i've had a good game if i feel like i did my job and was proud of the work that i put in that game. I'll go look at social media and rarely will anything even get my attention no matter how negative is because i just feel like mean whatever. I feel good about what i did. But if there's those deems where yeah kinda screwed this up or didn't get this right then you go back and you read it and then if somebody is commenting on that then that's what i feel like it really of hurt because i know they're right you know i know Yeah i was i was. I was hoping nobody noticed that you know one of those ideals. Yeah i think that's healthy healthy castle. Oliver got good self worth. You know what. I mean because you're not basing it on your not basing your performance on the fucking warriors behind the keyboards. Oh i felt good. Fuck everyone else. Or i felt bad. Okay they have in the in the world that i lived in as a player even social media wasn't there but these guys now certainly are dealing with it and then in broadcasting everyone's a critic and the fantasy football's really brought out. The criticism of of the players player doesn't make a play. But i'm curious for you. All i mean as far as social media you get a lot of negative on on your fees. People sell money just so funny. You asked that. I was with some friends this weekend. And they asked that exact question and the answer is no. I mean. it's crazy to say like you go through you. Go through my comments. And i mean it's never anything bad or negative. I think that's just how i presented myself as just this sort of out there. You know unrestrained person who's just going to be himself so i get passes all over the place. I guess i mean there's no i'm not being critiqued. If you don't like me then i guess just stop following. No one ever says like you're a fucking this or you did this or just great. I mean so you. You've carved out a path a little bit like jack. Nicholson to where you know. I mean he can take a three iron to a motorist. This car they say i jack on. It's no big deal. And yeah i got lucky with it but i do think that when you do. Sports people are stuck with troy and me if they're watching the big game and and and we're having we're having communist worded a little bit differently. Okay people after. Listen to us if we're doing game on national tv but but inevitably one side is going to be really mad because their team just lost and if you say anything you know that's critical or if you know in my case i'm jumping up and down because it team just one you've got half the fan base it's going. Hey you're your wire you so excited. My team lost if they're gonna follow you oliver. They're probably going to be a fan of yours to some degree. Nobody's stuck on a on sunday watching you. Call their games. If they are fans they they watch your stuff and they follow you and if not then you don't even exist in them so it's different experience altogether and i get it. You know. I mean. I totally get it. Because i don't get when. I watch a sporting event i i think. That's what makes sports so great but rarely am. I just absolutely like fanatical for the outcome of a game. Typically most events that i watch. I've got a little bit of a rooting interest at times. When i'm watching my house but not not often but then i'm watching for for instance a ucla game and i'm fully invested on wanting to see them win and then when something happens and the announcer says yeah. I kinda i wasn't. I do get why people react the way that they do. I guess the the thing that surprises me and it always has surprised me is that someone then actually takes the time to go type out this this that they have for for a broadcaster that that's the part where i say. Wow i they are really committed to this thing so but it's great. It's great for sports. It's been it's been great for getting people involved. When did you start like what was your first game started in our first game together i retired in two thousand and then i i worked the two thousand one season With daryl johnston a former teammate of mind with the cowboys and dick stockton was our play by play guy and and had a blast to renew such a unique situation to be working alongside a guy who came into the nfl. The same years i did. We were teammates for all those years and it was fun and then And then mad and all of a sudden left the very next year and they put joe myself and chris collins were in the in the number one booth. So it happened. It happened really quickly for me to be the number two guy one year and the very next year to be the number one guy and then worked with chris for three years in a three man booth and then he left for nbc. And and then. Joe and i have been in a two-man booth ever.

"Truth podcast i am your host mark. Schaller millennial ben producing the show. Mike evans is off. Taking his daughter to College his alma mater syracuse. So all the great broadcasters went to syracuse. you know you got guys like dick stockton. The legend my partner when i started at fox calling. Nfl games you've got guys like Mike to rico. Maybe bob costas went there. There's a ton of guys went to journalism broadcasting school at the university of syracuse. I can't remember what what what they call that. Journalism school but It's a good one. There's no question about that. Mike evans right up there at the top. So he'll be back next week but until then you've got me and i'd like to think are presenting sponsor the great folks over at book. America's best bet checkout super book. It's super book dot com so obviously preseason winding down right now quarterback battles being decided some Have been decided some have been announced. Some obviously haven't So let's start off in denver. Where i live right now. The quarterback battle between drew lock and teddy bridgewater and. This has all kinds of ramifications. It it really has divided the bronco fan base. There are a lot of people out there that think about the potential of a young guy the youth the athleticism. The excitement the splash plays in. How could you choose a guy that is been relegated in the minds of fans as a journeyman guy in teddy bridgewater and not take the young more exciting player that has more room to grow and that has a higher ceiling. So let me take you into the mind of of. Nfl coaches let me take into the mind of nfl players like nfl coaches in nfl players. Don't have the luxury of saying. Let's let a guy develop for six years because you know it's best for the organization because this is what have you done for me league and if you don't win now you won't have a job tomorrow. That's the way this league worked. So they don't have that luxury of waiting around for a guy develop to develop waiting around in hopes that a guy will develop waiting around for a guy to finally have that eureka moment that flash moment that epiphany where all of a sudden oh my god he's great now all of a sudden he's great like they don't have the time to do that so when a guy makes mistakes consistently they say it's time we need to move on. This is not the right guy. And i think from a coaching standpoint. You know what the fancy they see. The big splash play. They see the over the top. Throw the coaches coached the intricacies of what happened on that particular play. So let me take you back to week. One in the preseason were drew. Lock gets the start against minnesota. After practicing against the vikings for two days he gets the star and he goes. I think five of seven and has a phenomenal day. And ultimately he throws a eighty yard touchdown pass to To k j hamblur and people go crazy here in denver. They're looking at that play. Like oh my gosh. That's a play that teddy bridgewater couldn't make. And oh my goodness. He's got to be the starting quarterback and they interview vic fangio. The head coach at halftime and vic fangio goes out of his way to praise teddy bridgewater. They say hey. Drew lock had a great. I have used five or seven hundred fifty some odd yards to. Td's and he goes yeah. Teddy played really well to like. He just dismissed it. Teddy played real. Too and i think what happens. Is we see as a fan base. We see athleticism. We see potential. We see big arms. We see athleticism athleticism. We see escape ability. We see all those things and we think. That's what coaches are grading the philmont and that couldn't be further from the truth. Because what the coaches see is the nuance of the game. They see pocket presence. They see ability to call place. They see understanding more all five eligible or at all times. They see how quickly you get through progressions based on the defense that has played right. So when you're running on the front side of of of you know a a route tree you're running branch and on the backside. You're running whatever it is. You're running you're running buffalo. You're running you know a through in a pit curl in a now route on the backside and they see you look at the front side and say instantly. I don't like that side bam get back to the backside and it happens in a split second and then with the other quarterback who has the potential upside and can make the big splash plays. It takes him two seconds to get to the backside. It takes him two seconds to recognize the coverage will national football league. You don't have to seconds. You gotta do it in one second. And that's what the coach is great. You know everybody here. In denver essentially got like their panties in a wad right sunshine. Blown up their skirts if you will. Because drew lock throws an eighty yard. Touchdown pass to k j ham on the first game and it was beautiful so thing of beauty. He threw it sixty three yards or whatever in the air comes down to a wide open k. j. hamblur who is six yards behind anybody. That's covering him and the fan base goes wild. Well you know what happens in coaching in a meeting on a play like that. The coaches say you're late that ball should come down about forty seven yards. Why are you waiting so long to throw it. What are you waiting for. Hey they gave you a pre snap. Look to pre snap look was cover. Four quarters you fake the hand off. He had a seven-man protection. You turn your head around. And that's safety on that quarters one receiver side. That's safety got sucked up in play action. So you're one on one with the cornerback. In caja hamblur ran right by him. Why the hell you waiting to throw that ball. Throw it now. Don't let somebody get back in the play. Don't let the backside safety inc quarters come over and make a play on that football. Don't be late with the football. They'll look at that and say hey great. Play but you're late. Why would you wait so long like those are the things that go on. And i don't know i wasn't privy. I wasn't in that meeting. But i'm just telling you. These are the things that coach. This is what they talk about right. This is the growth process. And so when you look at really what they're grading. They're not grading things that fancy they're not grading fantasy football numbers they're grading based upon what they're asking you to do in the nuance of football. One of the things that i think will blow you away. As i've said this a bunch i think the best scrambler in football is.

"Should be more more. I just went in. And let eric talk about things he's interested in and i should just let him talk. That was the interview. I made an and i got it wrong. But in the end the something he is stuck said stuck with me since more than any other view he said i believe in you guys you guys. I'd like up i'm paraphrasing. You guys are the rebel. You're the you know what the fuck you doing the lambeau the laser is like what the fuck you doing. It stuck with me ever since. It's like ashley. What are we doing here like. it's a little it's a little a little s- another nuance to it. And i've had a few chances to speak to eric. And he said something to me that that stuck with me and it was. Nobody speaks to him in the language he can here. Because the language that we're using from the toxic maximalist languages just screaming names and crazy shit at him and he's not receptive to it nor zealand mosque. You know these guys just don't it doesn't resonate with them. They're used to being the talkers. Not the people listening and they feel like when they're listening to you. You know you should be respectful. They're giving you their attention regardless of what you think most clubs are going to be like fuck you you know. Who are you to you. Know require my attention or whatever. But that's how these guys operate the professors their leaders. I agreed sued the peter. I think i think we all have a lot of programming from when we grew up we think success is like having lamborghini and getting. "And then during halftime and certain times they go down. And there'd be a reporter down there guys like bill measure dr tricky Dick stockton they would be down in this thousands of doing the scores. This is before the nfl. Today you know so from that point on once. I got into that and again. The sonny's connection i ended up freelancing for cbs sports on the weekends going into games Working as an assistant director All over the country you know Plus doing the stuff that channel channel five and channel nine so that was a lot of fun. And i got that summer i'll became good friends and people like that that i got to meet Yeah i mean. I mean you were in a lot of boots right with a lot of great. You know all time national broadcasters. Well i mean think about the people that we had as play by play guy. Racing games for lundquist. Dick stockton chick hearn Hurt county albert. Kurt gowdy yeah. I mean you had some of the legends of all time Tommy and i got into this argument. The other day on the podcast. You know marv albert retired in and i you know there were a lot of of segments sort of dedicated throughout the postseason to marv's career. And i said to. Tommy i i recognize how great marv has been. But for me. I think new yorkers feel differently about marv albert than somebody like me like to me. He's not in the same class of of summerall in gowdy and end berg and some some of the all time. Great now he and he's been mostly mostly sort of affiliated and recognized for his work in the nba. And and tommy. Tommy had a connection. I mean he basically the stopped breathing for a few seconds. He thought it was just complete and utter nonsense. What do you think. I agree with you. Because you know there's people that are you know chick hearn you know now you know. I don't know that much about chicken.

"It's a it's a great great cause and it'll be a fun event I just wanted to comment on your marv thing. I actually had that written down last week. Talk about this with you. You've never actually told me that you were big. More fan never I probably should've asked you at some point Considering that that's where you grew up and you were massive knicks fan. But i i can totally appreciate you know All of the honors. I mean it's it seems like over the last couple of weeks. It's been every single night that there's been a marv albert you know segment or something. And i understand. Specially for new yorkers what he's meant to them you know over a long period of time with that said to me and it's not that i it's not that i'm not a mar fan and i i think he's always called a solid game but to me and on the national level. He's not even close to some of the greatest lead play by play people In you know over a lot of different sports like he's not in some summerall or gowdy or keith jackson. Give me a basketball name Jim nance college basketball For sure dick. End berg college basketball brent musburger the nba lee not even close in my body. Yeah you're right you're right not even close just got that fought on. I think that. I think that new yorkers have a completely different view and i know that nba fans a lot of them have loved. Marv i'm just telling you my opinion. Okay that if you told me right now. These upcoming nba finals are going to be called by marv. Or brent musburger even brent at eighty two years old gimme brent prints still owed okay. Don't don't make me. Don't make me come through this phone. It's unbelievable. have you heard we were asking that. I'm ending ending this with what what such a bad taste. This is just horrific. This is the most horrific thing you've said to me since i can remember. Why haven't you told me before in the many years we've been doing stuff together that you were a big mar fan. I've never heard. Because i i assume everybody who listening to marv albert would be a big mar fan. I didn't think we i actually come across. Somebody watches the game and doesn't think more of his great. But i found the guy. I think marv again i think he deserves all of the honors. I think he deserves praise for being really good. I don't put him anywhere near the class of the great lead. Play by play guys of all time from on my list. The some roles the galaxies. The keith jackson's jimmy is what we have to keep it the basketball okay. Well you know. First of all mark did more than basketball he did. Nfl for years. No one has ever claimed that his greatness was it was anything but the but nba basketball. My brain learn from mike. Breen's much better than marv's ever been. I'm just telling you. Mike breen is so much better than us finishes. I'm so angry. I can't even think straight about the more of stuff. Yeah yeah. I was thinking though that the marv stuff in terms of just the nba like dick. Stockton for years followed brent musburger who throughout you know. The seventies was the lead play by play guy with rick barry and with bill russell right. That was the that was the. I think sometimes just rick perry then it was dick stockton. Who was the lead For with tommy. Heinsohn on cbs. And then when it went to nbc. That's when marv it over And so stockton is known just as much for football brent's known just as much for football where marv definitely of those names and breen to definitely known much more for basketball so i will give you that but again. That wasn't my point. Anyway my point is is that i would have taken In terms of lead play by play guys a lot of guys. Before i'd take him. Oh you made your point. All right. Yes i did. Were done for the day You'll be back right. We're done you. You'd be back on thursday And for everybody else. Enjoy the day see..

"Afternoon news. It's John Hanson in for Mr Steve Burr trend here today I'll take you up till 6 30 the start of Game four of the Stanley Cup playoffs today. Thanks so much for joining us 312981 72 100 is the phone line would love for you to join in. You'll talked about Anderson first He's across the glass producing TJ gimbal over there to acting as our intern today, Mark Carmen in the sports hot car. Um, Long day for you, buddy. Hi, John. Guess indeed. Good to be here, Brother. Good to see you. Always good to see you, too. Let's hope those cubs can, uh Can get one here. It's been rough, nothing like nine losses in a row to ruin the season. Someone posted the last time or the last losing streaks over this long going back to I don't know when. And I was looking at the years and I'm like, Yeah, None of those years turned out. Good. Yeah. No, This is not the plan. This is not the formula for success. No, it isn't. Even though the White Sox had dropped a couple. It's a good news is the Indians have done the same thing? Yeah. Six Games up World Series for sure. Speaking of the Indians on this date, I believe my math is correct at 74 years ago. The Cleveland Indians took on the Chicago White Sox on the south side of Comiskey Park and Larry Doby made his debut. He took a train from New Jersey overnight to Chicago to become the first black player in the American League just a few weeks after Jackie Robinson I know a lot of you out there know the name Larry Doby. He managed for the White Sox. At one point, I consider myself a baseball connoisseur. And maybe I knew the name at some point, but I honestly didn't know much about him. And we've got Luke Evelyn coming. And he wrote a book about that Cleveland Indian team and the story of this incredible player who broke a huge barrier and his story is very different than Jackie Robinson's. It's an interesting chat, and, uh, I don't know, do you? I mean, did you know much about Larry Doby? I mean, I've heard the name a million times. But, uh, like I had forgotten that he had had managed with the White Sox and So that was you just piqued my interest there and you know he when you go back to Cleveland and breaking the color, very Bill Veeck own the Indians. At that point, Of course, he was the owner of the White Sox and just a huge figure in Chicago. Overall, Bill Veeck, so Just gotta get interesting when you do the history on it, But everybody talks about Jackie Robinson. I mean, Dolby came through three months later, and his treatment from all reports was straight. Brutal. Yeah, So it's a great topic, man. I think he said in an article a couple of many years ago at this point, he said, Of course, they treated me as bad as they treated Jackie. It wasn't like the second guy came in, and they were like, Oh, yeah, sure. Now we're all okay with it. And he had a really bad first year. He had a great secondary. We'll break that down with the author, and he had a Washington Post column out today about Luke Apple. We'll chat with him after the 4 30 news, But I want to say a little Bob Kessler to my friend. How are you doing? On this gorgeous Monday doing great. Yeah, Happy Fifth of July. I know it's weird What? It's always weird when the fourth falls on a Sunday already holiday does Right little bonus Day, a little bonus day, But I still felt yesterday. The Sunday scare ease, even though I had nothing to do, But come here. On my worst area here. No night. You're not nice to write. You guys are very pleasant. I'd be scared if it was someone else in your chair. Yeah, if it was clipping or something real work. Yeah, He's a teddy bear E Okay. Were there smiling Not to not to pick your guy's brain right off the start, but our first guest coming up in a little bit is going to chat us through. A topic. I have a lot of interest in. I'm about to read you guys a series of names Carmen and Kessler. And I want you to stop me when you know what each of these people have in common. Does that sound good? Okay, so all these names they all have something in common, William Ellery. Anything yet? No, no, no, it's fine. How about Francis Lewis? Francis Lewis. Any guesses yet those two bolted something Richard Stockton. Not naming not ringing the bell. I'm going to Google. Uh, very, very tempted to cheat right now. That's not Dick Stockton. And then long sample. No, no sports guy, Okay? I mean, that could be his full name. He doesn't have anything common. William Ellery Francis Lewis. Richard shocked at how about Charles Carroll? Is that helping you out at all? Carol? No. Was testing purple? No. You're making me look bad here. Kessler. You're supposed to come to the rescuers will know it either. So we're both equally 31 to 91 7200. If you can get this by the end of the list. I'll give you a high five across the phone line. Here's number five for you, Francis Hop Hopkinson. He's also on this list. Any guesses? Nothing. Nothing ringing about Got to Francis is to have you got to Francis's ones of Hopkinson is one's Louis. How about button? Gwinnett is if anything to do The Star Star Spangled Banner? No. Yes. Maybe. Maybe I'll don't don't shout it out quite yet. Because we've got another caller on the line. Upcoming answer for you that six of them. How about Caesar? Rodney? These are run. Okay? Yeah, He was a signer of the Eat the right go and finish it. Signed the Declaration of Independence. Yes, all those names I just listed off. Remember that? Okay, Here's how I remember. Please tell me how that was the one when I was in middle school, we watch the movie. Um 17 76, the musical. Oh, yeah, the seventies with William Daniels, you know, from later from boy meets world as I believe, Tom, not Thomas Jefferson. Forget who he played anyway. So in that film they had, like Caesar. Rodney had like a cloth over half of his face. And I remember our teacher saying, Well, he had cancer. And that was to keep people from so they wouldn't throw up And they look Oh, okay. That was the Yeah, I remember that. Well, you pull that deep from your brain there, Okay? No, that's just you know how certain things just Well in bed. Not like that. But apparently that one did for you know, I'm glad you got it, because that was the last name on the list. Yes, The seven names I just read were signers of the Declaration of Independence. We all know the famous ones. Of course, the writer the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson, all of 33 years old, But since its July the fifth I wanted to figure out what happened to some of these guys after they signed The Declaration of Independence. Well, good news is we've got a best selling author on after this break to tell us some really cool stories about what happened to some of these guys that we've never heard of. Coming up on. W g. "All right. he's the editor at large of the ringer. He wants left. Espn because they wouldn't give him five million dollars a year. He is bryan. Curtis what is it about the nba finals that every year. There's announcing salary drama. I don't even. I was involved. One of the air sits every year the espn. I don't know what happens. Weird how that always happens isn't it and it seems like it's like i can't tell if it's coming from the announcer or one particular executive who might be have a real interest in putting those stories out there i just i can't tell you know you know my theory curtis anytime. They put the salary of either what they want or what they're already making in one of those stories. It's that's that's the network. Move to try to basically undermined the town a little bit. That's always how i feel when they do that. But what do i know Because the fans read that they're like whoa. They're making what Anyway i wanted to talk about some media stuff. We'll start with marv albert because this is gonna be pretty soon and we might have a j. dante. The joke about if janas comes back for game seven five minutes before a game seven knew he could have marva. Here comes jaanus and do the nineteen seventy five finals callback but We're at the taylor. Amar what are you. What are your final thoughts here. I think it's incredibly important to remember that the first year he does the national. Nba telecast is ninety ninety one which is also michael jordan's first title so he comes in with amazing timing and you and i are old enough to remember when the nba was like everybody's third choice for a sports media career behind baseball and football yet. I remember that first year. Marv during the nbn nbc and watching it going. Oh my god. This guy's not just a great announcer. He's actually a basketball nerd. He actually loves pro basketball in a way that. I don't think i'd heard a national announcer express in quite the same way. Like i think. I've written this for the ringer. Bill is the way that zach lowe writes about basketball. You write about basketball. That was the way marv announced basketball. Like middleton beautiful move. You know right ball beautiful pass. He just he had this appreciation for it for its own sake and you know. Dick stockton in the eighties brent in the eighties bit. I just never got the same vibe that that was it for them. And that an marv was exactly where he most wanted to be in the world when he was calling those games that that's that's the first thing that stood out to me yet basketball announcing from a national level. A pretty storied. History of bad combinations. Bad decisions i did a whole. I think in my book i did like two pages about just how over and over again. How many mistakes they made because they would always just put the famous ex star in the booth with no rhyme or reason to whether the person was going to be good or not so oscar. Robertson was in there. I think he got he got kind of pushed out during during the playoffs in nineteen seventy five. I think You had bill. Russell was in their elgin baylor You had pat summerall announcing basketball. Then you had in stockton in heinsohn who everybody felt like was the celtics homer and he was trying really hard not to be a celtics homer but he obviously was. He's the bled celtic green so we never really found the right combination. It didn't feel like until it was Marvin fratello in that. It was his love for basketball. A sense of humor. I when my parents got divorced. I moved to connecticut for eighth grade and i got to hear him do knicks games. It was a revelation you'd heard kinda the rumors and he had done some nbc sports stuff then boxing and things like that. He'd done some football game so i had heard him in other platforms. But i'd never heard somebody with the rhythm of the game that sounded like you know somebody that cared as much as i did and i think even felt that During that hawks. Game when janas got hurt when the hawks are playing really well and marvelous get into it and heard her had three and marketed. The kevin herder in the name and i was like old school mar. Bring it back So yeah it's it's hard not to be nostalgic. He certainly the greatest ever. I think breen has approached him in a lotta ways but mar being i get the advantage but i do think breen who reveres marvin grew up listening to him and respects them and really has cribbed. Some of marv style I think he has carried the torch. Would you agree. Yeah oh absolutely. But i had. It's very funny. I had a famous announcer. Tell me a couple of years ago. People don't understand the difference between prime marv and prime breen. I don't know what to tell them yet because there is a difference and it was a sense. I think with marv again. I'm with you with breen man. If you're in brains hands to call a game. I feel great. He's awesome. he's technically all just right where he needs to be. But marv had this weird funny side about him yes he. He had all these other tools and he would be like. I remember one time. He was calling the playoffs with bill. Walton and they were doing the draft lottery at halftime and they went to the. You know that shot where they showed the ping pong balls in the hopper and marv comes back and he's just like bill walton mesmerized by the flow of the ping pong ball and. It doesn't even respond. I don't think well said anything. And it was almost marvis marvez very different than david letterman. But they had this commonality that. I felt with both of them that they would make jokes. And you you. And i'd be sitting there as kids watching on tv and go. I don't think everybody got that joke. But i got that joke. That's kind of the greatest feeling of somebody funny on tv when you feel like oh i got that i hear..

I thought it was both hysterical. Poignant charming touching inclusive it was. It was really funny. Got off to a little bit of a slow start free. I think they probably could have got to the plot a little bit faster if i were going to make one one spa complete but it was still so funny throughout and i mean there were moments that just had me laughing harder than anything. I can take off in the last few months higher scene at the playground with the drama with they call. What does she call him. She called them fucking like the drug dealing meth goblin or some shit tech still far like it goes farther than maybe anything i've ever seen in a movie i'm like i cannot believe what i'm fucking seen right now. She's getting ready to fuck and suck this guy's dick who's got like a whole it's a whole dick and he's got a fucking prince. Albert's he's got prince with a seventeen year old. Well he's seventeen as well but it's fucking prince albert. She's allegedly and he's got a fucking. Yeah go ahead. I don't know if anyone's gonna agree with me on this or i'm just fucking crazy but that drug dealer actor reminded me of rob schneider that i didn't just like his like our like just as reactions this stuff but it just had a real rob schneider vibe to be not. You're not that it made it a bad thing but it was just so over the top. it's so goofy. How maybe before he got dick stockton and he said you can do it they. Maybe that was due liberty bell. Tell you that much fucking. I love the i love the character of dog. The guy that fucking crying about the mas dying in the fire party. Which is she's just so aggressive with him and he's like yeah. Okay i'll follow you. You do serious either fucking love that her on the speed was just absolutely hysterical for little. It's a little speedy. Yeah i think is making my driving bono. it's coming back. This movie is an absolute tupperware. I loved it so much..

"That's what I want to see. I do. I want to see all that talent on the floor. I was fortunate enough to be able to see The Warriors and the Cavs and so much unbelievable talent on the floor. There is nothing like it. Say what you want about the MBA doldrums of the regular season load management when you get to the finals. And you see for me it was LeBron Kyrie. You haven't loved Kevin Durant. Steph Curry, Draymond green, Clay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, When you see all those players on the same floor, sharing the floor and plane every possession As if it's the biggest possession. Player's life. You will You will certainly change your mind. On the MBA, but we don't get to see a lot of that A special the last two years Now Cove it had something to do with that. And you had a lot of the soft tissue injuries, invade the MBA and let's face it, load management guys just sitting, they have their money so that rubs people the wrong way. But it is amazing to see all that talent, so that's what I want to see in the NBA Finals. Um Unfortunately, I think it I think it would send a really bad message. For a lot of these teams in the future. About the regular season, the Lakers could and theoretically, they could end up with a 60 today if things go their way, and they beat the pelicans and Portland loses to Denver Big Games today in the final Night of the MBA season. But we could see the Lakers get a 16 or They could end up in the plane game and finished with an eight seed or even missing the playoffs entirely. I don't think that's gonna happen. I don't think anybody thinks that's gonna happen. But what does it say about seating? Meanwhile, the Brooklyn that's what they played eight games all year with their big three of Harden, Irving and Kevin Durant. But Howard back disagree, said this is kind of an anomaly year. We'll see. I think the NBA has a big issue going forward with needing to have their superstars not only available, but Play. I heard Kobe Bryant's wife, the late Kobe Bryant's wife yesterday, Vanessa She said at the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame that the difference when it came to Kobe is he didn't sit He had nagging injuries the whole second half of his career, and he did not sit. He played. No, it was a different era, even though it wasn't that long ago. But There was no load management for Kobe Bryant. He was going to play no matter what, And I think that speaks to his greatness and his impact on the NBA game. And it's why so many people looked up to him. And why yesterday was a celebrated day as he went in, along with Tim Duncan. And Kevin Durant. But that's not all there were honored yesterday. At that event. As I watched a lot of it. You add Rudy Tomjanovich, Tameka Catchings. Congratulations to them Also. Going in under the Curt Gowdy media ward. Mike Breen, who's now done 15 straight NBA finals. You know, they say You never want to be the guy to follow the guy. And he followed Marv Albert now. I always have a special place in my heart for Marv Albert. Somebody who spent a lot of time in Syracuse. So went to Syracuse. You could understand why I love Marv. But Marv was The soundtrack off the embassy when I was in my youth meant so much So congratulations to Mike Brain who is definitely been a great replacement for Marv Albert. By the way. Shut up tomorrow. He's retiring at the end of the year, according to reports the age of 80, and he's been doing it for like 60 years. Incredible. Michael Wilbon went in yesterday. As well. All that great work of the Washington Post and of course, Petey I, which a lot of the younger fans know of him. And you look at all these great names that have gone in under the Curt Gowdy Media Award. The likes of Doris Burke, Craig Sager. J. Billa's Joe Tate, Cleveland announcer. Play by play announcer for a long time. Bill Raftery, Billy Packer. Marv is in there. Bob Costas, Hubie Brown Dick Vie. Tell Jim Nance Dick Stockton, It is a Who's Who Sam Smith. For the print award. Jackie MacMullan, Peter Vessey. The name's just keep getting better. Better. Jack McCollum. Just incredible names. Marc Stein, John Feinstein. David Aldridge. I could go on. Jim Jim Gray. One of these things is not like the other. I feel bad. I ambushed Howard back moments ago on Jim Gray. Look, Jim Gray's been, you know, I guess a great broadcaster he's been around. He's done it all. But I'm sorry. Can't put the guy in When He was involved in one of the worst moments. In NBA history. He really was. What? You gonna put everybody involved in the malice in the palace in there, too? Gonna put? Ah, Kermit Washington and there. I mean, the list could go on. We gonna put all All the worst, the worst events people associated with the worst event. Even Miami fans have to admit that the decision was ill advised. LeBron James admitted it Maverick Carter Rich Paul. They've all admitted it. After the fact. One of the dark days in NBA history. And yes, I'm biased because I'm from Cleveland. But ask some other people around the league. It wasn't good. David Stern did not think it was good. People advising, LeBron said. Bad idea jeans. This was not good yet Jim Gray Jim Gray. You just heard all those names..

"You like to fly the other side of the road that most of the traffic is, is driving down. You're going the wrong way on the interstate. Is that what you're doing, Mr. Apparently, wrong way, apparently on I 95 you're gonna cause an act. You agree that you like contrarian takes. I would say this because I don't subscribe to the group. Think that you think like you? I think you think that we should all think what you're thinking. So I do not subscribe to just assuming the same thought processes. Everyone else see better Now you're telling me that's contrarian. When when we was concerned, you're saying to me the person who gets all the calls Say, Sylvie, I never agree with you so that you have some weird takes that I'm group. Think what? I followed the hallway that I follow the herd. The guy who who started pointing out the problems at the top when no one else wanted to call group think. Well, you're you're the one saying that I'm a contrarian. So you are you like consisted of a contrarian. Well, that I don't know. I mean, but that is not me. I mean, I'm saying we're both concerns. There you go. I got to contrarians. I'm worried about two contrarians. I think a contrarian is moral taking the opposite approach simply because it's opposite of times because it's cooler in hipper to go down that road sometimes, man I would've perception won't have been here when Soviet was was the younger guy on the station and to see if the older guys at that time we're calling him because I feel like his before Chris was was on the show, and it was myself and Jeff Miller behind the glass. I was given the contrarian Name right, so contrarian to see you're doing war? No, I see. But that's the thing. That's the problem. So the reason we take such a fence to being called contrarians is that these are our opinions. They're not just because everybody else thinks that and so we automatically have to go off so we don't lie on the air Just to make a point. We are. These are our perspectives. This is our point. But because of our age group, I feel like we get lumped into this. Well, you guys were just young and one Can I tell you something? Quite frankly, that you two need to get over though, on this show, at least on this show that you two need to get over is the age. Because whether we agree or disagree with you, we agree or disagree with you. Your age is never held against you on this show, and you consistently bring up the age. My wife is your age. I have nothing against a 35 year old. This is not a millennial thing. I'm talking about Chris Black and Adam Adala. I have 28 year old. That's fair. That's why I like collegial make you do make a good point. Our age is not held against us on this show. You're never trapped in that. No, you are correct in that. Yeah. I don't think I have an issue. Need to put one of you on my knee and burp you. Yeah, I don't think you guys are veterans know, but I don't feel like that's an issue like I don't like Sean McVeigh is what 32 34. You know so much more than we are. Yeah, I don't know what more accomplished. That's my point, Like there are brilliant minds and sports And the age doesn't mean crap doesn't mean crap. Yeah, I don't know. You guys are veterans like Look, if you guys want to argue with me about the different things that I have, that's cool, But don't don't go to the fault. Like you guys are the young hip guys. And we're the old guys because we don't think old either waddling. I have opinions based on what we have opinions and what all and I don't see Eye to eye. But I don't feel like we always tag team every point that we don't agree by the way I agree with the opposite of a contrarian is a conformist. Our conventional lists or an emulator. I was actually Chris giving you a compliment about how it played out in front of you about Tony Rome. Oh, yeah, He sucks. I just like how this turned into black versus Sylvia like that. Fine, fine. Fine really have that I don't like Tony Roma. It's like all of these. Everyone either hates or loves, just from my perspective. A lot of people hate her loved broadcasters. I'm just one that I don't pay a ton of attention to all of them. Do occasionally. We'll get to the Tony Romo's gaps and mistakes, but I like eye on the on the heels of that. I was paying more closely paying attention more closely, toe take meant to start the year. The game like I normally don't pay that much attention to it well, and I think I I think Troy Aikman did a really nice job. Like laying things out in the first time I get them confused because people are the twitch shat saying I take Rome over Joe Buck any day they will do the same thing, right? That was my point to you. I feel like this is a This is a broadcaster discussing broadcaster conversation, right? Like people hate Joe Buck people I don't like I don't get that like job. I feel like people have more of the hatred towards play by play guys than they do. Analysts. Does that make sense. Yeah, because that's what I said to you. Yeah. So that will be like Oh, I hate Joe Buck. I'll take Toni Romer over Joe Buck. It's like they do different jobs they could actually work together. The analyst who doesn't ruin my broadcast, as much is getting dick Stockton doing, you know, getting up. You didn't like the attention of the conversation. I didn't know where that was going. Would you rather have Tony Rome? Oh, doing play by play or Dick Stockton doing color? Oh boy. Tony Roma doing play by play. Really?.

Thomas Thomas went on the IR high ankle injury. And progress has been good looking solid versus the Bears. All right, so And rapid port reporting. Michael Thomas eyes expected to Ah, be practicing and perhaps ready for the Bears? Yes, because I sell one questionable. Devon White, the linebacker for the box. You think Devon White is great. What? Hopefully Washington will be so banged up that they won't need him. I don't know of Washington congenital ate enough offense. I think you're gonna have to have 24 points it feels like to win that game. Against Tampa back I just don't know if they have enough offense there. I think the defense can keep him in the game with Brady because, as we've seen, you know you have a front four. That's going to put pressure if you don't have to bring linebackers or safety's there are you know defensive backs nickel. No coverage there. Uh, you know, then Brady was gonna have problems with that. But if you if you can't put the pressure on him, then you know, I expect Tom Brady to be Tom Brady. By the way, today is the anniversary 2002 Michaels straight hand. Sacked Brett Farve to break the single season sack record sack is in quotations their air quotes because that's where Brett Basically gift wrapped the single season sack record for Michael straight, and he sort of just went over to where Michael Woz and then fell down and then got up to congratulate my like quarterbacks. Don't congratulate. A defensive player eventually hugged him. Red Giants teammates were hugging. Far they were patting him on the back. Yeah, I went back and watched the entire clip and afterwards and the commentators didn't critique Farve or straight hand or any of it in the moment And you really can't find right around there too much criticism of it, Because strange it was a really popular player also is far. Yeah, and so some people jabbed a little bit. But most of all, how do you think that play today? It wasn't Troy Aikman on the call. It's Troy Aikman making Was he with Moose Johnston on the call? Guessing? I don't have that much of a problem, actually, with what Brett Farve did, because, like there was really nowhere. He could go the like, Right tackle or whoever who Just let stray hand sort of. Oh, laid right by him. That's the dude who let it happen. But he didn't get congratulated by the Giants, right? Yeah, that he got. You know $1000 from them. I think maybe got an autographed jersey. Yeah. Where's the swap? I Jo Judge would not put up with that plays over and over down, earned every bit of it. You didn't deserve that record. He's gonna give it back. Thought Troy Aikman was on the call in that game, I think was a grin. Stockton and Moose. I think you're ready. Okay? Yeah. Dick Stockton. Yes, well That's Yeah, that's one of those things where you know you gotta be tough to critique that type of thing. Because Friends nowadays. Yeah. I think it would be different. Yeah, we would be all over this. It would be in all day topic. Let's say someone did it. For what? Pretty popular player similar to stray hand and it was like I would do it. I love e even play football. Look out. Whatever we say, J. J Watch name. It's like JJ. Oh, easy. There could be a bear or Packer next year. I think a packer but His wife, Mrs White plays in Chicago. Mm. Okay, Here's the lights out. I don't know if I get well, who knows? That's that's long way off there, but I think his days in Houston are numbered. Okay, So then we find out of Todd actually sent an email or a text to Mike Florio asking the question. What was the question? Todd? The question was. Is that contingency plans If things continue, go sideways with the Browns. Are they playing this game Sunday night against the Steelers? No matter what, are they gonna reschedule it. If so, when will they rescheduled? And my father got back to us. And if you guys are ready, I will share what he said to me Now this is the first e mail you sent or the female attend all five which may or may not have been doctored. But if you take my word for it was said that 10 05 Wait. You doctored it. I wouldn't be able to do I barely know how to check my email. They you know, the guy in the back has weird tricks him. Fallon would not do that. But no I said the follow up text after you guys accused me of not said that coming down it all and I immediately got a note back from Mike and he says they're playing the game. Unless there's an uncontained outbreak. They say there isn't the question is whether the NFLPA at some point disputes that no idea what that would do to post this forest, postponing the game by a week by a day or two forfeit, no idea. They want to get the games in. Even if the water boy is the head coach of the punters the quarterback. Sorry I saw your email. But I've been slammed. You just added that I have to say that screen shot of this. Are you okay? You're running out of breath there. I did. I got a little clip there, you know. I don't. I don't like guys who are breathy. You know, it's exciting. Are you sure? Well, no, Todd, so I wasn't trying to be sexy. It's me being out of shape and trying to say senses, do you? You run out of air, but you keep talking to do. The Latest: Kershaw, Dodgers take Game 1 over Rays

"Vast fox sports radio networking glad you have chosen to spend A couple minutes with us and there is no debate. There is no debate where we begin this night, a radio the fall classic surfing the Blue Wave Cowabunga Dod's the Fall Classic, starting in a neutral site. Kind of on Tuesday night with Joe Buck every night, you get ajob of game and John Smalls calling the game on Fox. Did you watch? Maybe not will see that I don't imagine the ratings will be very good for this Thegame was lopsided in there's one team that has a fan base and another one that doesn't a national fan base for the Dodgers. Put on a pyrotechnics show. It was like the Fourth of July. Boom Bang Bam! The Dodger offense When Cody Bellenger Mookie Betts hit homeruns Clayton Kershaw mowing down Tampa haters like it was an April started Dodger Stadium on by the time The damage he'd done. Ella ended up spit roasting the raise 8 to 3 and Game one of the 2020 World Series for the Dodgers Get a leg up on the best of seven series now three wings away. From their first championship as a franchise since 1988 When Ronald Reagan was the president, Tommy Lasorda was waddling in the dugout and Kurt Gibson got wanted bat and hit a home run and is at all time legend because of that, as a Dodger, So let us discuss the question. What are your big takeaways? From Game one of the World Series, a domination situation for the Dodgers. So I've got the white whale hand grenades and Smurfs and we will tie all these things together. Now we talk about the World Series. Game one. You start with us. Accounts on Lee is just one game. It doesn't matter that much in the big picture. It's only one game. However. I'm going to disagree with that statement because the feeling that one gets watching Game one of the World Series from the Dodgers side of things. It's like hitting a two team parlay. It doesn't seem like a one win situation. Night, so don't undersell the importance of a game one win for Los Angeles and I'll tell you why. Because the Dodgers winning a Clayton Kershaw playoffs start As easy as a B C. 123. Is not something that happens very often, right. You feel like you dodged a bullet when you win a Kershaw game in the playoffs in a big play off game, Kershaw has been the dog with fleas in the postseason. And while many of my colleagues on television like to downplay Clayton Kershaw's missteps on radio, we don't do that We don't his World Series resume coming in. I would have him in the bread line. If that was his resume. What into an E? R. A of over five he had pitched in 26 2 3rd innings given up 16 earned runs. Over four starts in five games. But on this night, it reminded and voice in my head. It was Dick Stockton, who told me years ago stats tell you what has happened. They don't tell you what's going to happen. And that was a vintage regular season type of Kershaw performance. And you see that in a big play off game as often as you see a white whale swimming around the ocean, right? Clayton Kershaw got 38 swings. 19. Mrs. He had a whiff rate of 50%. Now the stat geeks tell us that that is the highest Of Clayton Kershaw's career, whether it be the postseason or the regular season that half the time it was S O matter, Miss. That is what's known as flexing your muscles, and it wasn't just Kershaw. Cody Bellenger, Mookie Betts. Max Muncy all had big days. The conga line kept moving. You keep pressure on your opponent 10 hits, they got seven walks. The Dodgers drew seven walks and, more importantly than that. They actually hit when they had runners in scoring position. They batted 3 57 on this day with runners in scoring position. They were five out of 14 follow the ways and is a key. You follow the wisdom often, American legend Will Rogers You never get a second chance to make a first impression. The Dodgers they made their first impression. Now you've got to back that up. You have backed that up in Game two in Game three, but you only played one game and the Dodgers the more talented team they didn't play down to their competition. They played like they were the superior opponent in this matchup. We certainly hope that continues were slightly biased on this now. Part B. If you would like to knit pick That's one of these. We get paid to do hear on the radio. Always to pick apart things in micro analyze. Dave Roberts fell back into some old analytical principles. We were hoping that his gut feeling managerial move. The other night would continue. It did not in this game, managing Clayton Kershaw. For Dave Roberts is like juggling hand grenades. One wrong move one wrong move and your head gets blown off. And I understand partially what Roberts is thinking. Because when I'm watching Clayton Kershaw, I'm thinking, OK, Here's where it all falls apart goes to hell right here, right. This is going to be the inning. It all goes to crap. In a playoff situation. But on this night Kershaw he was dealing He'd only thrown 78 pitches. Through six innings. And ah, very effective there. The Rays hitters were completely flummoxed against Kershaw as we gave you some of the numbers there of 50% with weight, and despite the Dodgers having a huge advantage there up eight tow one. They, Roberts Arbitrarily said. That's it. We're going to take you out of the game. I'd rather take you out of half inning. Too early, then a half inning too late. So that brought in Dillon Florio, who wasn't good and then and then Roberts panic because the Rays attempted the pin shit G may enjoy And so Roberts ran out of the dog and I got to make a change. I
